This week Eric and Nick sit down with comedian Jon Daly - not the golfer, ya dingus! Jon dives in talking about his early bombing and what it really means to do "karate." Theatre woes and imagining an 8th grade class doing a Blaxploitation play or an all white production of Roots. Plus the stories of when Jon Daly arrived late to a table read in front of A-list celebrities and the time he did acid before a show just to spice up things a bit. [0:41] Speaker 3: I love your dog and I love you.
[0:43] Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm like a weird second pet of Eric. I
[0:46] Speaker 4: think I'm kind of this guy on the show. We
[0:48] Speaker 4: haven't really defined it.
[0:49] Speaker 1: We just met this morning.
[0:50] Speaker 4: I parked his car right.
[0:52] Speaker 3: Well, relationships people are pets and they don't even know it.
[0:56] Speaker 3: So it's good that you know. That's good that Yeah,
[0:58] Speaker 3: it's good.
[0:59] Speaker 1: You think Americas it okay.
[1:01] Speaker 3: I was looking at the news today and it's on
[1:03] Speaker 3: the up.
[1:04] Speaker 1: I think it's on the we're going back up.
[1:06] Speaker 4: I'm just excited about the new States we're gonna get.
[1:09] Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm just I'm just psyched that I would switched
[1:13] Speaker 3: to Russia because like, I'd rather hang in Moscow, you know,
[1:19] Speaker 3: just a good place. It's a really high level place
[1:22] Speaker 3: and it's a lot played with a lot of art.
[1:24] Speaker 3: Like I never wanted to go to Paris anywhere. Give
[1:26] Speaker 3: me Moscow, give.
[1:27] Speaker 1: Me like Curesk or whatever.
[1:30] Speaker 3: Ship I've never seen you don't think you're going to see,
[1:32] Speaker 3: and then you see it and you're like.
[1:33] Speaker 1: Wow, Okay, so this is a podcast about bombing real.
[1:37] Speaker 1: What's the worst show you've ever done? What's the worst
[1:39] Speaker 1: gig you were at? Yeah, we're just tell us the
[1:42] Speaker 1: fucking all the failures child as you. Have you ever
[1:45] Speaker 1: been booed off stage? Anyone ever throwing? Oh yeah, yeah,
[1:47] Speaker 1: yeah I got to Stone before you got on stage.
[1:50] Speaker 1: And you're like, I'm way too Stone, And.
[1:52] Speaker 3: Yeah, I've definitely done that. I have gone out on
[1:54] Speaker 3: stage on acid and really, like you know, you think
[1:58] Speaker 3: it's going to go well, and it just is like
[2:00] Speaker 3: people are just like worried about you. That I was
[2:06] Speaker 3: thinking because it was like the improv marathon at uc B,
[2:09] Speaker 3: and I was like, I've done this on mushrooms. Why
[2:11] Speaker 3: can't I up the fucking annie and start doing this
[2:14] Speaker 3: on acid? And just acid's too deep. Man, It's like
[2:17] Speaker 3: it was like penetrating my soul and so I couldn't
[2:21] Speaker 3: do anything. But uh, I just bombed really hard about
[2:24] Speaker 3: two weeks ago doing stand up at uc B, which
[2:28] Speaker 3: I uh built that build that place in my bare hands,
[2:34] Speaker 3: and uh all yeah good, I'm a poc Alley.
[2:39] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[2:39] Speaker 1: And it was just a random show.
[2:41] Speaker 3: It was like people doing sketch, people doing like, you know,
[2:45] Speaker 3: really sketchy sketch, comedy stuff, musical stuff, like the kind
[2:49] Speaker 3: of stuff you don't want to go as stand up
[2:52] Speaker 3: up necessarily at and I went. It was a variety show.
[2:58] Speaker 3: It was not for charity. It was just kind of
[3:00] Speaker 3: a one off.
[3:01] Speaker 5: Pretty selfish then, pretty selfish of me to do it. Yeah, no, fires,
[3:05] Speaker 5: I actually I actually live to eating fire ten minutes
[3:08] Speaker 5: after the show. Okay, so you do show was like that?
[3:14] Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, no, I started it man, Yeah, why not?
[3:18] Speaker 1: Did you listen to a Prodigy fire starter as you're
[3:20] Speaker 1: doing it? That would be I did. I was just
[3:23] Speaker 1: in a throwback moment.
[3:25] Speaker 3: But it was interesting.
[3:26] Speaker 1: Because I try to tell the fire department.
[3:28] Speaker 3: Yeah, because I know you do transcendental meditation, or maybe
[3:32] Speaker 3: not transcendental, but some sort of meditation. So this was
[3:34] Speaker 3: a time when I was like, I'm bombing and I
[3:37] Speaker 3: know it, and I am just usually like the people
[3:41] Speaker 3: pleaser performer in me is like how can I get
[3:43] Speaker 3: these guys back?
[3:44] Speaker 1: And it was just a thing where I just started.
[3:46] Speaker 3: Going, oh, this is really fascinating, just out loud, and
[3:49] Speaker 3: like Grace Freud and a couple of people I knew
[3:52] Speaker 3: were in the in the green room and they were
[3:54] Speaker 3: laughing because they were like the I was just on
[3:56] Speaker 3: the TV back there, like comics bombing and comics there's
[4:00] Speaker 3: nothing funnier to comics when people bomb. And I was
[4:03] Speaker 3: just like, I'm sure people are enjoying it. It sounds
[4:05] Speaker 3: like people are enjoying and it was just silence I
[4:07] Speaker 3: couldn't get. It was just aggressive, like get off.
[4:10] Speaker 1: The stage and it really trying new material or we
[4:15] Speaker 1: just no. That was the thing.
[4:16] Speaker 2: It was.
[4:16] Speaker 1: You were in between a like a acoustic folk singer
[4:20] Speaker 1: and like a juggler exactly.
[4:21] Speaker 3: It was just but also like could have done well usually,
[4:25] Speaker 3: And I was thinking about bombing in general, like when
[4:27] Speaker 3: I've bombed, it's usually because I'm in a good place
[4:30] Speaker 3: and I want to try something new, and it's not
[4:33] Speaker 3: because I'm like, oh, I was so depressed. I've definitely
[4:35] Speaker 3: like probably bombed because I was like depressed or something
[4:38] Speaker 3: like that. But usually it's like I'm gonna go for it.
[4:41] Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask out girl.
[4:46] Speaker 3: That level. This was a time when I really did go,
[4:49] Speaker 3: oh I'm bombing. I can't win, you know what, fuck you,
[4:52] Speaker 3: and I just started going this is really fat and
[4:54] Speaker 3: I just kind of did that for like about the
[4:56] Speaker 3: last four minutes. But Transcendental Meditation. I feel like meditating
[5:00] Speaker 3: everyday got me to the place where I was like,
[5:02] Speaker 3: you know what, it's not gonna go anywhere. This is
[5:04] Speaker 3: just just enjoy it. See if you can play with
[5:07] Speaker 3: the tension a little bit, but like, I'm not gonna
[5:09] Speaker 3: be like but in that show, I was like I
[5:12] Speaker 3: had a great attitude.
[5:13] Speaker 1: I was like, fuck this, I'm the best, you know.
[5:16] Speaker 3: And then it was like nothing, nothing, Oh, okay, you're
[5:19] Speaker 3: gonna take me down a couple of notches. That's fine,
[5:21] Speaker 3: fuck you. It was just interesting to stop in the
[5:24] Speaker 3: middle of it and be like I am bombing rather
[5:27] Speaker 3: than oh geez, and then you're driving home going like, well,
[5:30] Speaker 3: I think I'm going back a little bit or whatever,
[5:32] Speaker 3: like fuck that.
[5:33] Speaker 1: Just enjoy it, you know.
[5:35] Speaker 4: Yeah, and can you get me booked on that show?
[5:38] Speaker 1: Yeah you can't.
[5:39] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's but I know you only do fire fire
[5:42] Speaker 3: Tragedy staff. But and then I I bombed. I I
[5:47] Speaker 3: was thinking like of the bomb feeling based on that show,
[5:51] Speaker 3: like I've bombed socially a.
[5:53] Speaker 1: Lot, like every give.
[5:56] Speaker 3: I think the first time where I was like I
[5:58] Speaker 3: am being humiliated in front of a lot of kids
[6:01] Speaker 3: was like I went to a new I went to
[6:03] Speaker 3: a new school, and the first time it like really
[6:06] Speaker 3: sticks in my memory.
[6:07] Speaker 1: He's like, I went to a new school.
[6:08] Speaker 3: I was in third grade, and I because I was
[6:11] Speaker 3: in a new school, like I was pretty down with
[6:12] Speaker 3: the you know, like mentally handicapped kids because they are
[6:15] Speaker 3: like super nice to me. I was just like I
[6:18] Speaker 3: was like, well, I go, this guy's fucking dapping me up.
[6:21] Speaker 3: I guess friend in life, this guy that thinks it's
[6:24] Speaker 3: hilarious that my name is John and his name is John. Okay,
[6:28] Speaker 3: that's our relationship. And he was, you know, uh, quite
[6:32] Speaker 3: mentally impaired. And but he would see me every day
[6:35] Speaker 3: and go John, and I'd be like John and be like, hey,
[6:38] Speaker 3: what's up or whatever?
[6:41] Speaker 4: I was probably eight or nine, and this is John
[6:43] Speaker 4: Hammer talking about. This is John John Ham was.
[6:48] Speaker 3: Probably dead now, unfortunately, but uh, but a kid was
[6:52] Speaker 3: picking on this kid, Matt Frederick. This like honky asshole,
[6:57] Speaker 3: like hunky in Pittsburgh means like you're trying, and uh,
[7:01] Speaker 3: He's like, man, man, and he started pushing this kid around.
[7:04] Speaker 3: I was like, hey man, because I'm a hero, I
[7:06] Speaker 3: was like, hey man, that's you know, let's let's not
[7:08] Speaker 3: do that. That's the other John. And he kicked me
[7:11] Speaker 3: in a totally non karate style and I fell down
[7:15] Speaker 3: and there were like eight kids watching at this point.
[7:18] Speaker 3: I fell down and he before I could get up
[7:21] Speaker 3: and like hit back, he goes karate move. I was like,
[7:27] Speaker 3: in front of all these kids, everyone's laughing at me.
[7:29] Speaker 3: I'm dirty for defending this innocent kid. And my comeback
[7:34] Speaker 3: was this. I went people who know karate don't say
[7:36] Speaker 3: karate move when they do karate.
[7:40] Speaker 1: Was you're a comedian.
[7:42] Speaker 2: No.
[7:42] Speaker 1: I was like indignant.
[7:43] Speaker 3: I was like, people, people don't say that if you
[7:45] Speaker 3: really know karate, you don't like sand karate.
[7:49] Speaker 1: From the ground.
[7:51] Speaker 3: But I was trying to like get back again.
[7:54] Speaker 1: It just that was it. I think I got.
[7:56] Speaker 4: I mean, you're right, you're right. People who say karate nerm,
[8:00] Speaker 4: they don't do that.
[8:00] Speaker 1: Yeah, they don't go karate ti. I don't announce it
[8:03] Speaker 1: like that.
[8:04] Speaker 3: Karate moved.
[8:05] Speaker 4: Karate move time is not a lot about like projecting
[8:08] Speaker 4: what you're about to do. I think it's a lot
[8:10] Speaker 4: of like being faster than the opponent.
[8:12] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[8:12] Speaker 3: I think it's about yeah, beating them up in really
[8:15] Speaker 3: super efficient way.
[8:16] Speaker 4: Yeah, and just yelling out it's karate moved.
[8:19] Speaker 1: Yeah. No.
[8:20] Speaker 3: I remember like being at this bar McManus. It was
[8:25] Speaker 3: like the UCB bar, and there was a celebrity who
[8:28] Speaker 3: I won't say it was there. I was like twenty
[8:30] Speaker 3: three and there was this beautiful woman there and she
[8:37] Speaker 3: just happened to be like at my table and I
[8:39] Speaker 3: was talking to her, was making her laugh.
[8:40] Speaker 1: She's making you ever like.
[8:41] Speaker 3: Getting along so well? And I was like, you know what,
[8:45] Speaker 3: I'm gonna shoot my shot. I'm fucking drunk enough to
[8:47] Speaker 3: do this or whatever. And here's what I did. I went, Hey,
[8:53] Speaker 3: I think we'd really like get along. I don't know
[8:56] Speaker 3: why I asked her out like that sounds. I think
[8:58] Speaker 3: we'd really is a fine way to ask her. I
[8:59] Speaker 3: think we'd like really get along and I was and
[9:02] Speaker 3: she was like, oh, oh okay, And I was like, yeah,
[9:05] Speaker 3: don't you think we get along?
[9:07] Speaker 1: Like you know, we should hang out. And she stood
[9:10] Speaker 1: up and just walked away.
[9:12] Speaker 3: It's not that great a story, but I'll tell you
[9:14] Speaker 3: who it is.
[9:15] Speaker 1: That is John Ham. That was John. It was Don
[9:18] Speaker 1: de Luiseise, it.
[9:20] Speaker 3: Was that was Don de Luise, And ladies and gentlemen,
[9:22] Speaker 3: that was Burt Reynolds.
[9:24] Speaker 1: That woman the next day, Wait, who is this lucky
[9:29] Speaker 1: lady that rejected you?
[9:30] Speaker 4: We can't talk about her name right.
[9:31] Speaker 1: She's on luck.
[9:33] Speaker 3: I'll let you know because I'm still friends with her.
[9:35] Speaker 3: I'll let you know afterwards.
[9:37] Speaker 1: I feel like, well you can you can say it
[9:39] Speaker 1: now and then we can bleep it right.
[9:43] Speaker 3: Oh yeah, so then you can have an opinion, you guys.
[9:45] Speaker 3: It seems like I should trust you guys what I did.
[9:48] Speaker 1: Just say it?
[9:50] Speaker 4: No, I think I think give.
[9:51] Speaker 1: Us a little clue. Well, I don't have to say it,
[9:54] Speaker 1: will give you a clue, give us a little clue,
[9:56] Speaker 1: all right, all right, yeah, all right, love Borat. It
[10:07] Speaker 1: was Geena Davis.
[10:08] Speaker 3: Geena Davis, the archer. You know, she's a professional arts Eneway.
[10:14] Speaker 1: We disrailed it Lake Bell. No didn't know.
[10:18] Speaker 4: No, wait wait wait wait it really an actress? Wait
[10:21] Speaker 4: but can I can I because I don't think the
[10:23] Speaker 4: name matters. But this was a I thought it was
[10:25] Speaker 4: a celebrity guy who had a celebrity girl, and you
[10:28] Speaker 4: were like, I'm gonna swoop in and take the celebrity
[10:29] Speaker 4: girl away.
[10:30] Speaker 3: I wasn't like trying to steal anyone's girl.
[10:32] Speaker 4: You were just trying to be charming.
[10:33] Speaker 3: I was just like, well, it was working. I was like,
[10:35] Speaker 3: this is clearly working. And then I realized the guy. No,
[10:39] Speaker 3: she was not with a guy. She was just she
[10:41] Speaker 3: was with a friend from very much a friend like drama. Yeah, yeah, no, no, no.
[10:49] Speaker 4: It was just it was a celebrity that you are
[10:51] Speaker 4: now friends with, and at the time you were hitting.
[10:54] Speaker 1: On and it was working.
[10:55] Speaker 3: I was like, like I said, we're clearly getting along.
[10:58] Speaker 3: I was like, I think we'd really get along. And
[11:00] Speaker 3: this was the time I was waiting tables. I was like, broke,
[11:04] Speaker 3: you know.
[11:05] Speaker 4: You're on acid or like UCB theater.
[11:07] Speaker 1: Yeah, they're all yeah, you could just be like you.
[11:09] Speaker 3: Can say that, Yeah, I could have.
[11:11] Speaker 4: I don't think it's a bad hit.
[11:12] Speaker 2: No.
[11:12] Speaker 3: I I was pretty proud of myself. Like I think
[11:15] Speaker 3: I never regret like bombing, because that means you did
[11:18] Speaker 3: it and you failed. But what I do regret is
[11:21] Speaker 3: like going like, oh man, I should ask this girl out,
[11:23] Speaker 3: you know what.
[11:24] Speaker 1: It's not the right to or whatever.
[11:27] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, exactly, Oh great, now she's married to Barack.
[11:30] Speaker 1: Was it, Michelle Obama?
[11:31] Speaker 2: You were hitting us?
[11:32] Speaker 3: It was something for a long time future president, Michelle Obam. Ah,
[11:41] Speaker 3: how about you? Did you ever bomb?
[11:43] Speaker 1: Never? Never?
[11:45] Speaker 4: I'm yeah, yeah, we always bomb.
[11:49] Speaker 1: We're bombing now. This is bad.
[11:50] Speaker 4: These people who work here are just like they're putting
[11:54] Speaker 4: in applications at new jobs.
[11:55] Speaker 1: Don't work here. This is we work and I share
[11:57] Speaker 1: the space.
[11:58] Speaker 3: Yeah I did bomb. I did the high school play
[12:03] Speaker 3: in what place? The fucking a really hard play, The Crucible,
[12:08] Speaker 3: Like I was John Proctor and the Crucible. Yeah, the
[12:13] Speaker 3: harrowing bitter tale of like injustice in the in the
[12:17] Speaker 3: like Salem, Massachusetts. And you know how like when you're
[12:22] Speaker 3: a kid or before you know how to act, like
[12:24] Speaker 3: you think you have something memorized when you can just
[12:27] Speaker 3: recite it in your head, but you're really just kind
[12:30] Speaker 3: of like kind of looking at the lines, and like
[12:32] Speaker 3: I was to the point where I was like, I'm good.
[12:34] Speaker 3: I think like I can do this in rehearsal when
[12:36] Speaker 3: I'm walking around my house or whatever, like I'm just
[12:39] Speaker 3: going through the whole play. I know it, but you
[12:41] Speaker 3: don't really know what memorization is yet.
[12:43] Speaker 1: No pressure.
[12:45] Speaker 3: Yeah you have to like get it into your fucking
[12:47] Speaker 3: bones and like be very confident.
[12:49] Speaker 1: I just didn't know it yet.
[12:51] Speaker 3: And on the first performance I rocked it and just
[12:54] Speaker 3: accidentally did it right because I had so much adrenaline.
[12:57] Speaker 3: The second performance, I bombed so hard and us was
[13:00] Speaker 3: like looking there was one kid that couldn't act, but
[13:03] Speaker 3: he had the whole thing memorized and he was just
[13:05] Speaker 3: looking at me sternly, like going like no, no, no, no,
[13:11] Speaker 3: And I just got it all wrong. And then it
[13:14] Speaker 3: didn't matter because like people came up to me afterwards
[13:16] Speaker 3: and they were like, you're great, and I was like, oh,
[13:18] Speaker 3: I guess nothing met.
[13:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess I am pretty good at then.
[13:22] Speaker 3: The whole play.
[13:22] Speaker 1: But that's okay.
[13:23] Speaker 4: Did you have to do like high school previews where
[13:25] Speaker 4: you would have to perform? My classes would get pulled
[13:28] Speaker 4: out of class and go watch your like a snippet
[13:30] Speaker 4: of your play during the middle of the day a
[13:32] Speaker 4: little bit. Yeah, that's what we had to do, and
[13:34] Speaker 4: it was always the worst.
[13:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, And it was always like.
[13:36] Speaker 4: I'm going to show them half of Dracula. Yeah, yeah,
[13:40] Speaker 4: did you do Dracula for Yeah, that was Van Helsing.
[13:42] Speaker 1: Whoa, that's cool.
[13:44] Speaker 3: Did you have a crossbow that's fire stone. I probably
[13:46] Speaker 3: had a cross across.
[13:48] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[13:48] Speaker 4: It was a pretty uneventful Glacula.
[13:50] Speaker 1: We did all black exploitation, that's cool.
[13:57] Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, flying people in yeah, yeah, ladies and gentlemen,
[14:03] Speaker 6: the eighth grade with super.
[14:05] Speaker 1: Fly, all white production of Raisin in the Sun.
[14:11] Speaker 3: Finally, oh good, Yeah, all white porgemess. Well it's those
[14:15] Speaker 3: it's those white roots that color light purple.
[14:18] Speaker 1: They have those yellow raisins they do, right, That's how
[14:27] Speaker 1: we got around it.
[14:27] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yellow raisin and yeah, you guys think you
[14:33] Speaker 4: had it bade.
[14:35] Speaker 1: All black roots, the.
[14:37] Speaker 3: Slave masters, and we did all white routes. Oh man,
[14:43] Speaker 3: all white roads, all roots.
[14:49] Speaker 4: That story you didn't hear.
[14:56] Speaker 2: With concre.
[15:06] Speaker 1: With Recdre, I did this one. Oh man, this was
[15:10] Speaker 1: a bomb.
[15:10] Speaker 3: This was this actually changed my life just a little bit,
[15:14] Speaker 3: like changed the way I deal with like logistics, but
[15:16] Speaker 3: I like just got I guess it was probably like
[15:20] Speaker 3: two thousand and twelve, so I was just like I did.
[15:26] Speaker 3: I'm nine years old. I was asked to do a
[15:28] Speaker 3: read through. This is this thing called the Blacklist that this
[15:32] Speaker 3: guy Frank Leonard does. It's the Blacklist movies, all this
[15:35] Speaker 3: script all the best scripts of the year that didn't
[15:38] Speaker 3: get produced. So he kind of like, you know, if
[15:41] Speaker 3: you got on the Blacklist, it's a big deal. So
[15:43] Speaker 3: there was this reading at the Jerry Lewis Theater, which
[15:46] Speaker 3: is right around the corner, and I was like, Oh,
[15:50] Speaker 3: I'm going to do this reading with all these celebrities
[15:52] Speaker 3: and I didn't know who they were yet, and but
[15:54] Speaker 3: I knew there were like famous people involved, and I
[15:57] Speaker 3: was like, I gotta be on time for this, and
[15:59] Speaker 3: it just didn't happen. I was like, oh no parking,
[16:02] Speaker 3: Oh God. And then I go get to the theater
[16:05] Speaker 3: and it's a labyrinth and you have to walk like
[16:07] Speaker 3: forty like six minutes this way up at elevator and
[16:11] Speaker 3: then another like and basically I was like three to
[16:15] Speaker 3: four minutes late after like trying so hard to get
[16:17] Speaker 3: it on time, and I was talking. I was very nervous,
[16:20] Speaker 3: and I was talking loudly. This is ten am the
[16:22] Speaker 3: rehearsal before the read through the rehearsal, So this is
[16:26] Speaker 3: the rehearsal. And I'm like talking to this intern who's
[16:29] Speaker 3: leading me, and I'm like, uh so, uh is uh
[16:32] Speaker 3: is are people here yet? And she goes, Everyone's here
[16:35] Speaker 3: and I was like, oh, oh wow, oh really. So
[16:39] Speaker 3: I'm like, even though I'm four minutes late, I'm like,
[16:41] Speaker 3: oh wow, I thought, hones that might be late later.
[16:44] Speaker 3: And as I walked into the room full of all
[16:47] Speaker 3: the people in the director and everyone, I said this.
[16:50] Speaker 3: I said, ah, amazing, like just my luck, I'm the
[16:54] Speaker 3: least famous guy here and the most late. Hilarious. And
[16:58] Speaker 3: I turned around and everyone was looking at me saying that,
[17:01] Speaker 3: and it was James Marsden, Luke Wilson, Jessica Elba, Laura
[17:07] Speaker 3: Carmichael from h mean from the car from Drug Carmichael
[17:13] Speaker 3: and some other.
[17:15] Speaker 4: People, Elvis Presley, mister Golden Nugget himself, and I just.
[17:25] Speaker 3: Yeah, the d C Sniper rented the Harrison Parson and
[17:34] Speaker 3: uh And I sat next to James Marson and I
[17:36] Speaker 3: was like, hey, what's up man? He goes, hey, man,
[17:43] Speaker 3: but I saying like I'm the least famous person. It
[17:47] Speaker 3: was just which thing to fucking say. And then the
[17:50] Speaker 3: reading came and I crushed it. I was so good
[17:53] Speaker 3: because I was like, you can't get worse than this.
[17:55] Speaker 3: I'm gonna be amazing. And I just was great. I
[17:57] Speaker 3: was like, I'm so funny.
[17:58] Speaker 4: If you can remember, if you of those lines right now,
[18:00] Speaker 4: this is called bombing with Eric Andre So let's hear
[18:02] Speaker 4: a little bit of that.
[18:03] Speaker 3: Oh okay, just to say that, but uh, bombing with
[18:07] Speaker 3: Eric Andondra, Yes, but uh. And then I did it.
[18:10] Speaker 1: It was quite good. And then Luke Wilson just show
[18:14] Speaker 1: are budd suicide footage? Oh man, Yeah, that was rough. Anyway, Anyway,
[18:18] Speaker 1: let's talk about a bomb. The guy bombed his medulla,
[18:24] Speaker 1: were interested stuff like that? He kind of self bombed.
[18:27] Speaker 1: He self bombed his head. Have you worked with any
[18:30] Speaker 1: of those people since? Have you worked with our Bud
[18:33] Speaker 1: Dwiers since he shot himself on television?
[18:36] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[18:36] Speaker 3: I dug up his grave and stole his rings. He
[18:40] Speaker 3: weirdly was big with rings. He was buried with keys
[18:43] Speaker 3: and rings his keys.
[18:46] Speaker 1: I was like, so weird, like my keys. Yeah, what's
[18:51] Speaker 1: the most high you've ever been on stage that time
[18:55] Speaker 1: on acid? And then what occurred? Why why did you
[18:58] Speaker 1: take acid before you went on?
[19:00] Speaker 3: I didn't take a full amount, but I just took
[19:03] Speaker 3: a gel tab, just a piece of gel Yeah, to
[19:08] Speaker 3: get the show. I thought I was going to be
[19:10] Speaker 3: having a blast, and it was just fear and I
[19:13] Speaker 3: had I had to walk outside, uh and just walk
[19:16] Speaker 3: it off.
[19:17] Speaker 4: I can't perform high, like even like on weed.
[19:19] Speaker 1: I can't. No, no, no, no, no cocaine.
[19:22] Speaker 3: I can perform on weedly cocaine.
[19:25] Speaker 1: I can do a little cocaine. I'm not great at it.
[19:28] Speaker 1: What about that Humble Comedy Festival.
[19:30] Speaker 4: I did a really terrible job.
[19:34] Speaker 3: Yeah, well it's not my fault. That's not my it's
[19:38] Speaker 3: not your fault. It's the cokes. It was bad coke.
[19:41] Speaker 1: I you know.
[19:41] Speaker 4: It was like that, you know, like you do these
[19:43] Speaker 4: festivals and they had been like the final show was
[19:45] Speaker 4: like they're like this is the big show, and you're like,
[19:48] Speaker 4: oh cool, I'm on the big show. And they're like,
[19:50] Speaker 4: so are forty other people. And you're like, oh, so
[19:53] Speaker 4: it's like a six hour show or like a three
[19:54] Speaker 4: hour show or something insane, and you do a little
[19:57] Speaker 4: too much coke because somebody's got it. And then you
[19:59] Speaker 4: get on age and your mouth doesn't work and you
[20:01] Speaker 4: can't say words, and you just gesture, and you see
[20:05] Speaker 4: your parents, your you see your friend's parents in the crowd,
[20:08] Speaker 4: and you wonder why you're doing any of this anymore
[20:10] Speaker 4: because they're really.
[20:11] Speaker 3: Upset with you, right, And that was the worst set
[20:13] Speaker 3: up was a paranoia you're saying or you.
[20:17] Speaker 4: Know, it was like Mike mum mumble like.
[20:20] Speaker 6: Oh yeah, you were like ski out, Yeah, You're like yeah,
[20:24] Speaker 6: like too much, yeah, exactly, Like I was like, it
[20:27] Speaker 6: was a lot like you're gonna be up next Actually
[20:29] Speaker 6: you're going to be.
[20:30] Speaker 4: Up in seven. Actually you know, we added we added
[20:33] Speaker 4: the other guys for the other thing, so now it's
[20:34] Speaker 4: going to be this yeah, and you just wanted to
[20:37] Speaker 4: be like say thank you to everybody and leave and
[20:40] Speaker 4: then the show's three hours late.
[20:41] Speaker 3: And I once did too much at a party and
[20:45] Speaker 3: like with my friend and I looked at his face
[20:47] Speaker 3: and his jaw was chewing his tongue and just like
[20:51] Speaker 3: some but but clearly thought he was in a normal place.
[20:53] Speaker 3: And I was like, I looked at him, I was like,
[20:55] Speaker 3: if you're like that, I must be like, so I
[20:58] Speaker 3: need to like chill the fuck out.
[21:00] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[21:01] Speaker 4: I used to have a gauge friend like, you can't
[21:03] Speaker 4: do what he's doing.
[21:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, you can't tell when?
[21:07] Speaker 2: Hell?
[21:07] Speaker 1: When else? Was I funk? I was probably really drunk.
[21:09] Speaker 3: I did, uh, there's a show at u se Be
[21:12] Speaker 3: For a while that was it was like weed versus shrooms, alcohol,
[21:18] Speaker 3: weed versus shrooms versus alcohol, and you do improv on
[21:21] Speaker 3: high on shrimp.
[21:23] Speaker 1: Three teams when when.
[21:26] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah? And I got really drunk for that.
[21:29] Speaker 3: But that was just being drunk a young man.
[21:31] Speaker 4: I was like, that's the peak of the show.
[21:32] Speaker 1: I want to do right right, was like, I could
[21:35] Speaker 1: be on that bad team, but mushrooms, I could do
[21:37] Speaker 1: it an alcoholic I don't thin. I don't think I
[21:38] Speaker 1: could do you think you could stay on mushrooms.
[21:41] Speaker 3: I get very adorable, Like I'm like, I'm just a
[21:44] Speaker 3: little yeah, very giggly and goofy and absurd though right No,
[21:49] Speaker 3: I like, yeah, I like the giggliness.
[21:51] Speaker 4: I would be afraid to like ruin the sanctity of
[21:53] Speaker 4: mushrooms by like performing on stage with it.
[21:56] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's their religious experience for you.
[21:58] Speaker 4: I don't know I just definitely had yeah, yeah, I
[22:02] Speaker 4: mean I would do it if it was a part
[22:03] Speaker 4: of a show. And I think I actually have done
[22:04] Speaker 4: a mushroom show.
[22:06] Speaker 1: Yeah, don't remember it. But what's the worst audition you
[22:09] Speaker 1: ever had? You ever bombed in an audition?
[22:11] Speaker 2: Oh?
[22:11] Speaker 3: Man, I think I bombed so many auditions, Like that's
[22:14] Speaker 3: a bombing most of them. If you're doing well, you
[22:16] Speaker 3: kind of bomb. Like if you're like trying something.
[22:19] Speaker 4: Yeah, you bomb, but then you get the job.
[22:21] Speaker 3: Sometimes you get the job. Sometimes they're just like, okay,
[22:23] Speaker 3: you did something there. This is this guy's fucking on crack.
[22:27] Speaker 1: I remember in New York days one time, like we're
[22:29] Speaker 1: all in a hallway and like you came out of
[22:33] Speaker 1: the audition room and you kissed the sides, crumbled them
[22:36] Speaker 1: up and scrammed them into the garbage. It was like
[22:41] Speaker 1: me and whoever at the time, like I can yeah,
[22:44] Speaker 1: you know it's probably like Ellie Kemper and Reggie Watts
[22:47] Speaker 1: sitting we all died laughing. It's fun thing to do.
[22:51] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's perfect. And it must have been a
[22:54] Speaker 3: commercial audition, yeah, just like fuck you, yeah, you gotta
[22:59] Speaker 3: do it audition. I had one audition where I just
[23:04] Speaker 3: I had to. It was for a prank show and
[23:07] Speaker 3: I had to go to Washington Square Park and like crank,
[23:11] Speaker 3: it was for Jackass. I think it was like literally
[23:15] Speaker 3: for not Jackass punked sorry ye and like punks was
[23:21] Speaker 3: and this dude was like, all right, when needs to go,
[23:23] Speaker 3: We're gonna wire you up. Go to Central Park and
[23:25] Speaker 3: just like fuck with people. And I I went there
[23:28] Speaker 3: and I just went up to people and I was
[23:30] Speaker 3: like what do I say?
[23:31] Speaker 4: They were like catch them in lives, like catch him
[23:35] Speaker 4: in the face.
[23:35] Speaker 3: Yeah, wait what it's like practical, like you want the job,
[23:39] Speaker 3: practical jokers, Yeah, seal volcanoes in your ear, going like
[23:42] Speaker 3: do something funny. Yeah, And I just I didn't really
[23:45] Speaker 3: bomb because I was just like I'm not doing this.
[23:49] Speaker 3: I can't do this. I think they were just like
[23:52] Speaker 3: the literal premise was like catch someone in a lie,
[23:55] Speaker 3: make it about a party last night, and like, hey,
[23:57] Speaker 3: you're from the party.
[23:58] Speaker 1: I was. I tried it.
[24:00] Speaker 3: I was like, premise, you're in a party, You're from
[24:02] Speaker 3: the party last night, and they were like no, I wasn't.
[24:04] Speaker 3: And I was like I'll see you guys later. I
[24:07] Speaker 3: tried like once or twice. He does yeah, I guess
[24:11] Speaker 3: it's not working.
[24:12] Speaker 2: Guys. Yea with a redre with a recdre.
[24:27] Speaker 3: Relationship bombs. Oh man, yeah yeah, relationship bombs.
[24:32] Speaker 1: Ship.
[24:33] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[24:34] Speaker 4: You don't how to get into it now, but we
[24:35] Speaker 4: just want to. We just want to see it in
[24:37] Speaker 4: your eyes.
[24:40] Speaker 1: Oh man. I uh yeah, yeah. No, I'm sad.
[24:45] Speaker 3: I'm really sad. No, No, I'm not thank you. Yeah,
[24:51] Speaker 3: I'm happy.
[24:52] Speaker 1: No.
[24:52] Speaker 3: I I had a thing where, oh man, I was
[24:57] Speaker 3: doing a show and and I don't know if this
[25:01] Speaker 3: is me bombing, this was just insane, but like I
[25:04] Speaker 3: was doing a show with the whitest kid you know,
[25:07] Speaker 3: and I don't know it was. It was like Tuesday
[25:11] Speaker 3: Night at eleven in New York days New York Raffife,
[25:15] Speaker 3: late night Tuesday Night Raffife, which.
[25:18] Speaker 4: Was like probably the hottest spot at the time.
[25:20] Speaker 3: It was the hottest spot sun.
[25:22] Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
[25:23] Speaker 3: And I was like twenty five and I was dating
[25:26] Speaker 3: a girl that was thirty five.
[25:27] Speaker 1: She was like way older, more mature, she had a
[25:30] Speaker 1: good job and everything. I was like, why are you
[25:32] Speaker 1: dating me?
[25:32] Speaker 3: And she before the show was drinking at a bar
[25:39] Speaker 3: or like eating at a bar. She left her friends
[25:41] Speaker 3: and like or her friends left and she was like
[25:43] Speaker 3: waiting to see my show and somebody started buying her drinks.
[25:48] Speaker 3: Turns out it was Sam Shepherd, like the legendary American
[25:52] Speaker 3: playwright Sam And so Sam Shepherd comes to Art teak
[25:59] Speaker 3: around like disgusting comedy idiot had and and he just
[26:06] Speaker 3: like like watches it.
[26:08] Speaker 1: He's like, this isn't True West, clearly.
[26:09] Speaker 3: Like hitting on my girlfriend. I was just like, why
[26:12] Speaker 3: why did you bring Sam Shepherd? What's going on? And
[26:15] Speaker 3: I was like psyched. I was like he's gonna see us,
[26:16] Speaker 3: We're really good or whatever. And she was like he
[26:20] Speaker 3: just like bought me a drink. And I was like, oh,
[26:22] Speaker 3: that's weird, but it's Sam Shepherd, right, that's fine. And
[26:25] Speaker 3: then we did the show and he was like holding court.
[26:27] Speaker 3: We were like, hey man, true West right.
[26:31] Speaker 1: He was like yeah, yeah, good job man.
[26:34] Speaker 3: That was fucking funny. It reminds me of my life,
[26:36] Speaker 3: reminds me of the sixties, like experimental theater and saying
[26:39] Speaker 3: all this bullshit to me and he's like just trying
[26:41] Speaker 3: to fuck my friend. I was like, I think my
[26:44] Speaker 3: mind was just like I'm not even going to accept
[26:46] Speaker 3: that he's.
[26:47] Speaker 4: Trying to fuck me. It's kind of a compliment.
[26:50] Speaker 3: It is a compliment, but it was just at the time,
[26:52] Speaker 3: I was like, fuck, fuck you.
[26:54] Speaker 2: You know.
[26:54] Speaker 3: She goes, I'm gonna go outside and just say goodbye
[26:58] Speaker 3: to Sam, but I'm not going to do anything. But
[26:59] Speaker 3: and I was like, don't do it, and she was like,
[27:02] Speaker 3: I just he wants to say goodbye. And I was
[27:04] Speaker 3: all right, whatever, he's a legend. And I like went
[27:07] Speaker 3: to the window and like watched them and she didn't
[27:09] Speaker 3: kiss him or anything. And that ended our relationship. I
[27:14] Speaker 3: was like, okay, we got to like end the relationship.
[27:16] Speaker 3: Why a bomb? It wasn't working, But that was like
[27:20] Speaker 3: you shouldn't.
[27:21] Speaker 2: It was.
[27:22] Speaker 3: It was a thing where I was just like you
[27:24] Speaker 3: you shouldn't be with me.
[27:26] Speaker 4: Like I I'm holding you back from Sam Shepherd.
[27:29] Speaker 3: No, just your thirty five. Like I was like, this
[27:31] Speaker 3: is not it's not gonna this is not gonna last.
[27:34] Speaker 3: I need to way more psychos than the Yeah. Yeah,
[27:39] Speaker 3: but that was that was pretty Uh, that was pretty intense.
[27:42] Speaker 1: That's fine. That was That was That was a bomb
[27:44] Speaker 1: of a in those days. What was the did you
[27:49] Speaker 1: do trashy clause with John Gambling? Yeah, trashy clause.
[27:52] Speaker 3: John Gambling's character Trashy clause was one of the funniest.
[27:56] Speaker 3: He just had like real trash. He went to a
[27:58] Speaker 3: dumpster and got a real trash bag and handed out
[28:02] Speaker 3: like disgusting ketchup covered like McDonald's. The audience was discuss.
[28:07] Speaker 4: It was so he found a resource and he's just like,
[28:11] Speaker 4: put disgusting to give you actual garbage.
[28:15] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[28:15] Speaker 1: Vic Bernardo told me he went to some experimental show
[28:18] Speaker 1: at the Bowery Poetry Room and he had to go
[28:21] Speaker 1: on and tell jokes after this woman pissed in a
[28:23] Speaker 1: bowl of spaghetti and ate it.
[28:25] Speaker 3: Oh man.
[28:26] Speaker 1: And he's like, that's before I realized I shouldn't do
[28:28] Speaker 1: variety shows anymore. I should just like comedy only.
[28:32] Speaker 4: There's a lot of variety shows in New York. I
[28:34] Speaker 4: feel like I performed after a woman who pulled like,
[28:36] Speaker 4: you know, a scroll out of her vagina, which is, you.
[28:38] Speaker 1: Know, interesting wow.
[28:41] Speaker 4: And then I'm going there and I'm like, it's crazy,
[28:46] Speaker 4: you know, having apartments and like paying rent right right,
[28:51] Speaker 4: And she's like I just read that scene is where
[28:54] Speaker 4: I met Brodie Stevens.
[28:55] Speaker 3: Like the surf Reality that was the weirdo place that
[28:59] Speaker 3: was like experimental reality because you're surfing reality just cresting. Like,
[29:08] Speaker 3: but do you remember like Reverend Jen, the girl who
[29:12] Speaker 3: dresses an elf and always if she was out of
[29:15] Speaker 3: her house, she always had elf ears on she was.
[29:18] Speaker 1: She was part of that.
[29:19] Speaker 3: And there was a guy called zero Boy, and then
[29:23] Speaker 3: the guy who was soy bomb who like who can
[29:29] Speaker 3: tell his bomb box? Yeah, exactly at the Grammys. He
[29:33] Speaker 3: was like part of that scene. Then Brodie Stevens was
[29:35] Speaker 3: like the normalist probably guy in that scene just like
[29:39] Speaker 3: doing that. He was doing like.
[29:41] Speaker 1: Doing stand up, you know, so it was like a
[29:43] Speaker 1: little bit more normal. But yeah, that.
[29:45] Speaker 3: Scene was cool, and that's like what you see. B
[29:47] Speaker 3: was at the very tip top, Like it seemed like
[29:51] Speaker 3: there were more just like New York City freakazoids there
[29:54] Speaker 3: and it.
[29:54] Speaker 1: Was outsider outside. Shout out to Johnny Conroy.
[30:00] Speaker 4: My first, my very first open mic was in North
[30:04] Speaker 4: Hollywood and this guy I like knew from an acting
[30:08] Speaker 4: class or something was there and I ran him outside
[30:11] Speaker 4: and he was like really excited to show me his
[30:13] Speaker 4: new bit, and I was like, what do you mean
[30:15] Speaker 4: show me your new bit. I'll just see it on stage,
[30:17] Speaker 4: and he was like, oh, I gotta show you. And
[30:19] Speaker 4: then he like opened up his pants and pulled his
[30:21] Speaker 4: pants down, and he had like a photorealistic knit fake
[30:24] Speaker 4: dick that he was like hell ya, like he could.
[30:28] Speaker 4: He was like, well, the end of my act, I'm
[30:29] Speaker 4: going to reveal myself to the audience. But it's not
[30:32] Speaker 4: illegal if it's not your actual penis. Oh boy, And
[30:35] Speaker 4: I was like, so you found the loop.
[30:37] Speaker 3: The loophole too exposing yourself.
[30:40] Speaker 4: Also at that point, like the week before I saw him,
[30:43] Speaker 4: he did not have good teeth, and that week he
[30:44] Speaker 4: had like full caps, like full like yeah, full veniers,
[30:49] Speaker 4: just like, oh my god.
[30:51] Speaker 1: There was this. When I first took a Groundlings class,
[30:54] Speaker 1: they'd put you in this like like preliminary one off
[31:00] Speaker 1: glass with everybody to separate the people that have like
[31:03] Speaker 1: at least just a teeny bit of stageperience, the total
[31:07] Speaker 1: yahoos who's never stepped on stage once in their life,
[31:11] Speaker 1: like complete like coming from an absolute amateur position, like
[31:16] Speaker 1: this is their first time ever venturing. Yeah, so it's
[31:23] Speaker 1: a real simple class. The guy like just pairs people.
[31:26] Speaker 1: He's like, go up there and do a bit about
[31:29] Speaker 1: a yoga class. Go over there and say the first thing.
[31:33] Speaker 1: And I'm like, this is going to be a train
[31:35] Speaker 1: wreck just something in my bones. I was like, this
[31:37] Speaker 1: is about to be a fucking disaster because half these
[31:40] Speaker 1: people are Hollywood yahoos who have like thousand yards stare
[31:47] Speaker 1: and their eye like clearly like undiagnosed quack of doodles
[31:51] Speaker 1: on the street, like yeah, I could do comedy. There's
[31:54] Speaker 1: you there are like yeah, I'm like I can do
[31:56] Speaker 1: like you know, I want to get into comedy writing.
[31:58] Speaker 1: I'm somewhat saying enough to pursue a career or at
[32:02] Speaker 1: least a hobby. But some people were just complete wagged
[32:05] Speaker 1: as this one. This one guy, I saw it happening
[32:11] Speaker 1: as it was happening. The groundling Seazer goes, all right,
[32:15] Speaker 1: he picks this guy, this middle aged white guy who
[32:17] Speaker 1: looks like a Tim and Eric character, who's like incredibly white.
[32:21] Speaker 1: He's got khakis and a blue button up shirt that
[32:24] Speaker 1: he like he works at Blockbuster Video or best Buy, so.
[32:28] Speaker 4: He's got great style.
[32:29] Speaker 1: He's got a great style. He's very like like looks
[32:32] Speaker 1: like Iowa bread, looks like he's never met a black
[32:35] Speaker 1: person in his life, very pale and corny. And this
[32:40] Speaker 1: is like twenty years ago. I'm gonna say yeah and
[32:43] Speaker 1: then and then He's like, okay, whatever his name was,
[32:47] Speaker 1: all right, Greg, you go up with Janet and he
[32:50] Speaker 1: picked like the only black girl in the class. And
[32:54] Speaker 1: they had to improvise their whole scene. And I'm like,
[32:56] Speaker 1: I already know this white guy's gonna say something race
[33:01] Speaker 1: and it brought just my Spidey sense. Everything came to that.
[33:04] Speaker 1: I'm like, something's gonna just be catastrophic, and boy did
[33:08] Speaker 1: I predict. So all they had to do was improv
[33:11] Speaker 1: They could make up whatever they wanted. They could be
[33:13] Speaker 1: like friends, they could be a husband and wife.
[33:15] Speaker 2: Yea.
[33:16] Speaker 1: And the guy in the first millisecond started touching her
[33:21] Speaker 1: hair never better before. And he goes and the first
[33:26] Speaker 1: thing out of his mouth he was like, I love
[33:29] Speaker 1: being your slave owner, old Bessie. Your prettiest.
[33:35] Speaker 3: On my on my plantation sounds.
[33:41] Speaker 1: Girl, it's so.
[33:45] Speaker 3: Slapped him across the good Wow.
[33:49] Speaker 1: It was like fuck you and ran out. He might
[33:53] Speaker 1: have said the N word in the middle of his
[33:54] Speaker 1: field too. Sounds like I was coming.
[33:57] Speaker 3: Here's a good way for me to framing able to
[33:59] Speaker 3: say the end, make the black person I'm in with us.
[34:03] Speaker 4: Yeah, Like, oh finally, okay, pace, first off the wall,
[34:07] Speaker 4: you got it.
[34:07] Speaker 3: You gotta set the where and what. You're my slave,
[34:11] Speaker 3: I'm your master. Let's go the same time.
[34:13] Speaker 1: I'm touching a girl. I fucking win today.
[34:16] Speaker 3: You know I live in Hollywood.
[34:18] Speaker 1: She slaps some prossive face. Oh man, screams out of
[34:24] Speaker 1: she runs outside. Then he runs after her, apologizing outside
[34:29] Speaker 1: the teachers like this. He's like, I guess I gotta
[34:31] Speaker 1: go out there and mediate this fucking trade.
[34:34] Speaker 3: Yeah, oh man, Yeah, I taught improv, and there was
[34:39] Speaker 3: a sight. There was always a fucking like yeah, some
[34:42] Speaker 3: like guy who's like, people tell me I'm pretty funny
[34:45] Speaker 3: and just like from like upstate New York or whatever,
[34:48] Speaker 3: and just drive down for UCB classes and they just
[34:50] Speaker 3: want to touch women like they just like they striper hooker,
[34:54] Speaker 3: and I'm gonna fucking touch you, like it's a lot.
[34:58] Speaker 4: Of fuck Like yeah, it's a lot of like happy,
[35:01] Speaker 4: happy anniversary, babe.
[35:03] Speaker 2: It's like.
[35:05] Speaker 1: A little.
[35:08] Speaker 3: Wow, it's our wedding night.
[35:10] Speaker 2: Oh man.
[35:10] Speaker 3: Yeah, time to touch a lot.
[35:15] Speaker 4: I don't think we should have improth That's what I say.
[35:18] Speaker 3: Improv is just well, no, I love.
[35:22] Speaker 4: I don't think you should let anybody do it. We
[35:27] Speaker 4: should have the same rules for getting the gun or
[35:29] Speaker 4: maybe more rules. There's no rules forgetting Yeah, you should
[35:32] Speaker 4: have more gone to the new improv classes.
[35:35] Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, everybody's taking a shot.
[35:38] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[35:39] Speaker 1: Yeah. What's the worst show you've ever seen?
[35:41] Speaker 2: Where?
[35:41] Speaker 1: Improv show you've ever seen or been a part of,
[35:43] Speaker 1: or rock show or whatever. Yeah, not even you didn't
[35:47] Speaker 1: even have to be a part of it, just like
[35:48] Speaker 1: you saw like fucking oh man, Alice Cooper fucking cry
[35:54] Speaker 1: blood on stage. Man.
[35:56] Speaker 3: I walked out of a really sad Bob Dylan show
[35:58] Speaker 3: one time.
[35:59] Speaker 1: Actually, my friend saw him live and he said, he's
[36:02] Speaker 1: the worst performer he's ever seen. Why it sounds like
[36:05] Speaker 1: he's gargling. No, he's gargling, Well, yes that, but he
[36:08] Speaker 1: just sounds like he's gargling razor blades with my friend
[36:11] Speaker 1: said that was it.
[36:12] Speaker 3: He like had no voice and he was singing I
[36:14] Speaker 3: think Ballad of a Thin Man or something, which is
[36:16] Speaker 3: a song I like. And it took me like two
[36:20] Speaker 3: minutes to figure out, oh, this is a song I recognized,
[36:22] Speaker 3: Like you couldn't understand the words at all, and he
[36:24] Speaker 3: was playing this organ and he was like kind of
[36:27] Speaker 3: not facing the audience. No but no, but people people
[36:30] Speaker 3: were like, oh, you got it.
[36:31] Speaker 1: You caught him on a really bad like you have.
[36:32] Speaker 3: To see him because he still is good, like even
[36:36] Speaker 3: in his eighties, like he can muster together. It's just
[36:38] Speaker 3: most shows are bad, and he's addicted to touring. He's
[36:41] Speaker 3: never stopped me.
[36:43] Speaker 4: He's a complete He's a complete ut No, yeah, I
[36:47] Speaker 4: got to check it out.
[36:48] Speaker 1: I haven't seen it.
[36:50] Speaker 4: Oh no, just his music.
[36:51] Speaker 3: I mean, oh you got to see his music. Yeah,
[36:53] Speaker 3: you got to check out his music.
[36:55] Speaker 2: Good.
[36:55] Speaker 1: So I don't think Joni Mitchell likes it. So Bob Dylan,
[36:58] Speaker 1: that's the worst show you ever seen?
[37:00] Speaker 3: No, I think I've seen worse. That just kind of
[37:02] Speaker 3: popped into my mind, is like I can't believe I'm leaving.
[37:04] Speaker 3: I was like looking around, going, I'm leaving a Bob Dylan,
[37:07] Speaker 3: Like I love Bob Dylan.
[37:08] Speaker 1: What am I doing? But it sucked. Jesse Potp told me,
[37:11] Speaker 1: I go, what's the worst comedy show You've ever seen?
[37:13] Speaker 1: And I think he's going to be like, uh yeah,
[37:16] Speaker 1: the fucking Alligator loungees I think, uh no, I thought
[37:19] Speaker 1: he was going to say something like that and he goes.
[37:21] Speaker 1: The worst show I've ever been to is when I
[37:25] Speaker 1: took my mom to see George Carlin, and I go
[37:27] Speaker 1: George Carlin just after George Carlin's the best, one of
[37:30] Speaker 1: the best comics of all time. He goes, he used
[37:33] Speaker 1: to be He's like completely crazy. Now I go, what
[37:37] Speaker 1: do you mean? It is right before Carlin died. He goes, Dude,
[37:40] Speaker 1: I brought my mom because she's a fan. That's her generation.
[37:43] Speaker 1: I thought it was going to be this great mother's
[37:45] Speaker 1: son kind of fun birthday gift, you know, yeh yeah,
[37:50] Speaker 1: he's he's from your generation to generation. He goes, have
[37:55] Speaker 1: you heard any of his new stuff or stuff that
[37:57] Speaker 1: he's practiced recently. I'm like, no, I didn't mean, I know,
[38:00] Speaker 1: like the classic Carlin specials from like the eighties and seventies.
[38:05] Speaker 1: He's like, dude. His opening joke was like I want
[38:07] Speaker 1: to drag the teenage girl to the woods and her
[38:11] Speaker 1: log cabin cut her, put me out and disembodied, and
[38:17] Speaker 1: his mom like, oh my god, Texas Chansaw massacre what
[38:23] Speaker 1: I'm talking about?
[38:24] Speaker 4: And with the point, Yeah, there was no point anyway,
[38:27] Speaker 4: That's just something I want to do.
[38:28] Speaker 1: WHOA, that's a show I want to see.
[38:30] Speaker 3: Yeah, that's I was never a huge Carlin fan. I
[38:34] Speaker 3: mean that's that's that's obviously not something you're supposed to say.
[38:37] Speaker 3: I was never like I was like I like Eddie Murphy,
[38:40] Speaker 3: not George Carlin, like when I was a little kid.
[38:42] Speaker 3: I understand he's very important to comedy, but I want
[38:44] Speaker 3: to see that version like.
[38:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, I said he was just melting down, like super
[38:50] Speaker 1: embarrassing from his mom. She's like, what the hell?
[38:52] Speaker 3: Oh man, Yeah, I've been the Yeah, like comedy shows
[38:58] Speaker 3: I've I've done.
[38:59] Speaker 1: I did a show over the improv when it's bad.
[39:01] Speaker 3: Improv when it's bad is one of the word.
[39:04] Speaker 4: But when it's good, it's also bad.
[39:07] Speaker 1: Well, it's like bad improv shows I've been to. I like,
[39:11] Speaker 1: it's it's like they should be illegal.
[39:14] Speaker 3: Yeah, there's nothing worse than bad theater. Bad theater because
[39:18] Speaker 3: there's a script that they're going through. Improv, like there
[39:22] Speaker 3: is a certain amount of like all right, let's move
[39:24] Speaker 3: to the next scene, and then that scene won't work
[39:27] Speaker 3: and they'll be like I'm watching horrible improv. But bad
[39:30] Speaker 3: theater you're like really held hostage hostage. I've Broadway shows
[39:35] Speaker 3: where it's just like, oh, this show just doesn't work
[39:38] Speaker 3: and I don't understand why. But the vibe is not there.
[39:41] Speaker 3: Someone's not excited about this, and it is hell.
[39:44] Speaker 4: It's like hell to get through, really bad like three
[39:47] Speaker 4: hours bucks. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I met a very bad show.
[39:54] Speaker 3: I remember seeing Raid. The first time I saw Rage
[39:56] Speaker 3: against the Machine. It was at like one of the
[40:00] Speaker 3: early lollapaloozas, and it was like we just but we
[40:05] Speaker 3: didn't know who they were. They weren't famous and okay,
[40:09] Speaker 3: and they went on it like four in the afternoon,
[40:12] Speaker 3: and I remember me and my middle school buddies were
[40:14] Speaker 3: watching this ship and Zach de Laroka comes out and goes.
[40:19] Speaker 2: What you tell me?
[40:19] Speaker 3: And You're like, who was this fucking white wrapper?
[40:22] Speaker 2: Nerd?
[40:23] Speaker 1: You were a cop back then we took off. I
[40:26] Speaker 1: was a cop back.
[40:27] Speaker 4: Very on top of America back then.
[40:28] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[40:29] Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, I was the skinhead cop.
[40:31] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[40:33] Speaker 3: So I wasn't into what they were. I wasn't into
[40:36] Speaker 3: what they were laying down. Oh man, I'm sure. Yeah,
[40:39] Speaker 3: there's gotta be bad shows, and that what's a bad
[40:42] Speaker 3: fucking show?
[40:43] Speaker 4: They're all you know, I think they're all bad all shows. No,
[40:47] Speaker 4: I think no, no, no, there's a lot of really
[40:51] Speaker 4: good shows, of course, But like I think, in general,
[40:53] Speaker 4: if there's a show that you haven't seen, it's it's
[40:56] Speaker 4: bad because because there was a reason you didn't see it.
[41:00] Speaker 4: You know, there's more bad shows in the world.
[41:02] Speaker 1: I took my mom to Street No More and she
[41:05] Speaker 1: was like, you like it? No, She was like, why
[41:07] Speaker 1: is it so dark in here? I go, Mom, you
[41:09] Speaker 1: gotta be quiet. I could put the mask on. She goes,
[41:12] Speaker 1: this mask wasn't made for Jewish noses. It's hurting my face.
[41:17] Speaker 1: And then she keeps like putting the thing up, and
[41:19] Speaker 1: I'm like, mom, you got a whisper. It's an interactive play?
[41:23] Speaker 4: Is that one?
[41:23] Speaker 1: She goes, you told me a play. I thought there'd
[41:26] Speaker 1: be seats. I'm standing for hours. I'm exhausted. I'm like,
[41:30] Speaker 1: stop complaining. This is fucking art. And then she's like, no,
[41:35] Speaker 1: I'm sitting. And she would just sit on Pride. Yeah,
[41:37] Speaker 1: she would sit on set back and her mask.
[41:43] Speaker 3: Well, people will think you're a part of the show.
[41:46] Speaker 3: If you don't have the mask on, that makes you blank,
[41:49] Speaker 3: right mask A so you're in the show as like
[41:53] Speaker 3: a modern dressed person. I don't know even know where
[41:56] Speaker 3: my son is.
[41:57] Speaker 1: I remember she's checking her voicemails all loud and sh yeah,
[42:02] Speaker 1: clearly not a play.
[42:03] Speaker 3: I'm walking the whole through a hallway.
[42:06] Speaker 4: Remember that ship, Like she'd be like this is cool.
[42:08] Speaker 4: She was like, I think that's really cool. I like
[42:11] Speaker 4: that immersive theater.
[42:13] Speaker 3: I love immersive theater.
[42:15] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's amazing. Sleep No More was cool.
[42:16] Speaker 3: I feel like there was a thing with like the
[42:18] Speaker 3: would always be like, oh, de la Guardo. You know,
[42:21] Speaker 3: it's like the best theater production. And like when Leonardo
[42:25] Speaker 3: DiCaprio was there, they took them up into the ceiling
[42:28] Speaker 3: and they fucking bounced them around and stuff, and then
[42:30] Speaker 3: it would be like, oh, Sleep No More. Well, Leonardo
[42:34] Speaker 3: DiCaprio went to sleep and they fucked a girl and
[42:37] Speaker 3: you go and you're like, oh this is some good
[42:39] Speaker 3: sexy show and people are naked and you're like, oh,
[42:41] Speaker 3: it's a little bit withhold it didn't get it. There's
[42:45] Speaker 3: a big sex orgy, there's a but it's nothing great.
[42:47] Speaker 3: I don't know, Like I just like I wanted to like, yeah.
[42:50] Speaker 1: It to be way more. Forgot about GUARDI remember Day.
[42:53] Speaker 3: La Guarda, like they people would fly.
[42:56] Speaker 1: I never saw it. I was too broken those days
[42:57] Speaker 1: to get tickets at anything.
[42:59] Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean they're still and I think I'm still
[43:01] Speaker 4: too broadfrad. There's another like Sleep No More show that
[43:04] Speaker 4: is even weirder. Apparently it just opened.
[43:08] Speaker 3: Really yeah, I'll go to the same guy.
[43:10] Speaker 1: I love that ship.
[43:11] Speaker 3: I just wanted to be that too.
[43:13] Speaker 1: Yes, it's going to Sleep No More where you finally
[43:16] Speaker 1: get to fu Yeah.
[43:17] Speaker 3: Yeah, you finally get to fucking finally do what Leo did.
[43:20] Speaker 4: Yeah, version some girl just as.
[43:24] Speaker 3: Like, yeah, time the funk.
[43:25] Speaker 1: Oh wow, I guess that was a good play.
[43:27] Speaker 4: Good review from Sleep even Less.
[43:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, well I didn't do any sleeping in there.
[43:35] Speaker 3: All I learned is people want to fuck me.
[43:40] Speaker 1: That's got his theater experience. Well, this was great. Good
