[0:42] Speaker 2: It, Bombing Bombing with Eric and Andre.
[0:52] Speaker 1: Soo is your biggest bomb or some bombing stories?
[0:56] Speaker 3: I have so many?
[0:57] Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, you're like autopilot.
[1:00] Speaker 3: Okay, okay, okay, okay, a few one of them. It's
[1:03] Speaker 3: like I'm like eighteen years old. We're like on I'm
[1:07] Speaker 3: we're like performing for the first time. I'm like getting
[1:09] Speaker 3: like free drink. I'm getting blacked out every time because
[1:12] Speaker 3: I never had, like I've only had like like you
[1:16] Speaker 3: drink like out of someone's like your parents like liquor cabin.
[1:20] Speaker 3: It has like a quarter of a bottle of triple
[1:22] Speaker 3: Sex from like six years ago. Yeah, it's like disgusting.
[1:25] Speaker 3: You have like you guys Split one mad Dog, except
[1:29] Speaker 3: with like eight people special. It's fucking disgusting, disgusting. So
[1:35] Speaker 3: like finally I'm like getting alcohol. I'm playing with spank
[1:40] Speaker 3: Rock Amanda Blank. I'm at this like fader thing and
[1:43] Speaker 3: it's like this is so yeah, we're like the king.
[1:46] Speaker 1: Did you ever go to college? No, not a day. No, No.
[1:50] Speaker 3: I went to an audio engineering school for like four
[1:52] Speaker 3: months but dropped out, and ever since I'm the only
[1:56] Speaker 3: one of my everyone to college except me and my family.
[1:59] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[2:00] Speaker 3: So I'm like, so I remember, I'm I'm at the
[2:02] Speaker 3: show and I'm getting like fully blacked out, like like
[2:07] Speaker 3: like so drunk, and I remember I start djank and
[2:09] Speaker 3: I was like I didn't have like I didn't have
[2:12] Speaker 3: money like that, so I literally would bring I didn't
[2:14] Speaker 3: have a laptop, so I bring an iMac.
[2:18] Speaker 1: To the club, a big purple plastic like a huge iMac.
[2:24] Speaker 3: To the club, and I would like and I was
[2:26] Speaker 3: so bad. Yeah, it was crazy, and I was so
[2:28] Speaker 3: bad at djank and basically I'm with one of my
[2:31] Speaker 3: friends and we're like so hyped and we're like dancing
[2:33] Speaker 3: and stuff and basically like I accidentally turned the bpm
[2:37] Speaker 3: so like, for people who don't know what that is, like,
[2:39] Speaker 3: I made the song incredibly fast, like like one hundred
[2:43] Speaker 3: bpm Steward, So it was like so before it was
[2:45] Speaker 3: like and then was like and I was like and
[2:49] Speaker 3: and I couldn't stop it because my friend spilled a
[2:52] Speaker 3: drink all over the keyboard, the laptop or the fucking computer,
[2:56] Speaker 3: whatever the fuck it is. The so I'm so I'm
[3:00] Speaker 3: sitting there and it's so fast and like spank rock
[3:04] Speaker 3: here's like things, and they all just went along with
[3:07] Speaker 3: it so like and they like did it and nobody
[3:11] Speaker 3: even noticed, and they were so mad.
[3:15] Speaker 1: You were rapping and.
[3:18] Speaker 3: Then and they were rapping and it was like it
[3:20] Speaker 3: was during my DJ said, they like came out and
[3:22] Speaker 3: like did a special thing. Basically that night, I get
[3:26] Speaker 3: so wasted. I get so unbelievably wasted that they kicked
[3:31] Speaker 3: me out. Okay, what home, Sweet Home, it's called in
[3:35] Speaker 3: New York, you know, it's like near Christy Street. Yeah,
[3:39] Speaker 3: we have to like go down, yeah.
[3:40] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I remember. That's fine.
[3:42] Speaker 3: Yeah, so we're I'm actually confusing two nights, this is
[3:46] Speaker 3: one one whatever. Who gives nobody it's the same somebody.
[3:53] Speaker 1: New York years ago.
[3:56] Speaker 3: It also could be the same night for this, it'll
[4:00] Speaker 3: be the same night. And I remember I I they
[4:03] Speaker 3: they actually, you know when someone's like, oh, they threw
[4:05] Speaker 3: me out of the bar, They actually picked me up
[4:08] Speaker 3: that I was so belligerent while I was ejing that
[4:11] Speaker 3: two men picked me up and they threw me into
[4:15] Speaker 3: guard And I remember at the time, I was getting
[4:17] Speaker 3: paid three hundred dollars, okay, and it's like the most
[4:21] Speaker 3: embarrassing thing. They throw me into garbage and then the
[4:23] Speaker 3: guy takes out not even like three like nights. He
[4:27] Speaker 3: crumpled three hundred dollar bills and throws them out, so
[4:31] Speaker 3: they throw them at me on the ground.
[4:33] Speaker 1: I'm black, Did you dude to deserve that?
[4:36] Speaker 3: I was probably being an idiot.
[4:37] Speaker 1: In what sense?
[4:40] Speaker 3: It was probably just so drunk, like spilling stuff, like
[4:43] Speaker 3: being an idiot. So I'm out there and I remember
[4:46] Speaker 3: like standing up and like looking at my friends and
[4:48] Speaker 3: they were out there and I was like, I hate you.
[4:51] Speaker 3: I was like, fuck you, and I like looked at
[4:53] Speaker 3: my I was like, I hate you, like and I
[4:55] Speaker 3: was just like I was just like, I gone off
[4:58] Speaker 3: the rails. I went full fully off the rails.
[5:02] Speaker 1: I was eighteen year old Penny. That was like that.
[5:09] Speaker 3: You're only yeah, but that's what you do when you're eighteen. Yeah.
[5:15] Speaker 3: Oh my god, I have so.
[5:16] Speaker 1: Many Okay, tell me some more bombing stories.
[5:18] Speaker 3: So okay, so first, this is like the opposite of
[5:21] Speaker 3: a bomb. Okay. I'm playing poker one night and like
[5:25] Speaker 3: my friend's mom puts me on her Instagram. Okay. Then
[5:29] Speaker 3: she calls me the next day and she's like, yo,
[5:32] Speaker 3: my son's best friend. You're his biggest influence in the world.
[5:37] Speaker 3: You have to let him come like intern for you.
[5:41] Speaker 3: I was like I don't need another intern, and they
[5:43] Speaker 3: were like whease, and I was like all right, fine. So,
[5:46] Speaker 3: like I meet this kid, this kid's fifteen years old,
[5:49] Speaker 3: and he's like, I got a intern for you, and
[5:51] Speaker 3: I'm like all right, Like he was just like a
[5:53] Speaker 3: sweet kid. I was like intern for me, and I
[5:56] Speaker 3: was like, all right, I'm in New York and I
[5:59] Speaker 3: was like, but I'm building a studio in La You
[6:01] Speaker 3: got to just build the studio and I'll be out
[6:03] Speaker 3: in like a few months. And then he was like
[6:06] Speaker 3: he was like all right, so did you give.
[6:08] Speaker 1: Up a budget?
[6:10] Speaker 3: We did the whole thing.
[6:11] Speaker 1: Oh okay, build it with your bare hand and your
[6:13] Speaker 1: own mind the chop.
[6:17] Speaker 3: So basically, this kid starts working for me, and then
[6:20] Speaker 3: like he eventually like is about to graduate high school
[6:24] Speaker 3: and like he's in like his last semester and I'm like, yo,
[6:26] Speaker 3: I'm going on the road with Ed Sheeran. Do you
[6:28] Speaker 3: want to come and like learn? And he's like yes.
[6:31] Speaker 3: And then like eventually I'm like he's in college and
[6:33] Speaker 3: I'm like, yo, we're going on tour with this person.
[6:36] Speaker 3: Do you want to come, like like see how it's
[6:38] Speaker 3: all done? Blah blah blah. And he's like working his
[6:40] Speaker 3: way up, never even tells me he makes music, and
[6:43] Speaker 3: then one day he like sits me down and he's
[6:45] Speaker 3: just like dude. When he's like nineteen, he's like, dude.
[6:49] Speaker 3: My therapist said, if I don't play you my music,
[6:54] Speaker 3: then like I just like eat, he won't work with
[6:56] Speaker 3: me anymore. And I was like, yeah, of course, man,
[6:59] Speaker 3: Like no, no, no, he played music. I'm like, yeah, no,
[7:06] Speaker 3: he plays me his music and it's bad. Yeah, okay,
[7:09] Speaker 3: but like I see something in the kid somehow. Fast
[7:12] Speaker 3: forward like a year or two, I sign him and
[7:15] Speaker 3: then he's the actual biggest producer in the world right now.
[7:20] Speaker 3: He literally just one Song of the Year at the Grammy's.
[7:22] Speaker 3: He's like the biggest producer in the world, and he's
[7:24] Speaker 3: he's been working with me since Blake. Yeah, Blake. Now, okay,
[7:27] Speaker 3: you want to hear a funny Blake story. That's a bomb. Okay, great,
[7:30] Speaker 3: this is a bomb of a story.
[7:31] Speaker 1: Wait, so you met Blake because your friend's mom was
[7:34] Speaker 1: just like, hey, I got to put you on my
[7:36] Speaker 1: Instagram and.
[7:36] Speaker 3: She just put me on Instagram in a poker game
[7:38] Speaker 3: and he was like, who the fuck is it?
[7:39] Speaker 1: How do you know?
[7:40] Speaker 3: Benny? Like he had no idea and it was just
[7:42] Speaker 3: like a random thing. Whoa Yeah, it was so random.
[7:46] Speaker 3: So okay, So okay, Blake, it's his first day. I'm like,
[7:50] Speaker 3: finally in LA. He's been working for me for like
[7:52] Speaker 3: eight months, hasn't done anything. He's like cleaning toilets. Everything,
[7:55] Speaker 3: his life sucks. Okay, he finally walks in. I'm in
[8:00] Speaker 3: La and I'm like, yo, we're going to a studio, Okay,
[8:05] Speaker 3: we're gonna work with the Weekend, and he was just like,
[8:07] Speaker 3: holy shit. He's like what the fuck. He's like, this
[8:10] Speaker 3: is what I've been waiting for. He's losing his mind.
[8:13] Speaker 3: So the Weekend comes in and I'm like, Blake, like
[8:16] Speaker 3: just be cool, and he's like, okay, cool. We're in
[8:19] Speaker 3: the session. Literally fifteen minutes into the session. We're in
[8:22] Speaker 3: a room like this small and we're like me in
[8:24] Speaker 3: the Weekend, are like going back and forth and we're
[8:27] Speaker 3: like singing stuff, we're playing beats, and all of a sudden,
[8:29] Speaker 3: he takes his phone out to try to take like
[8:31] Speaker 3: a sneak no and it goes like it goes, it flashes,
[8:36] Speaker 3: and he literally Blake doesn't know what to do, so
[8:39] Speaker 3: he goes like this. He goes and he throws his
[8:42] Speaker 3: phone and just like leaves the room and just like
[8:46] Speaker 3: doesn't know what to do. Like the Weekend doesn't notice,
[8:49] Speaker 3: and it's like all good, but he was so embarrassed
[8:52] Speaker 3: he left the room and did not come back for
[8:53] Speaker 3: the rest of the session. But Blake bomb.
[9:00] Speaker 2: Godre with Averic Codre.
[9:12] Speaker 3: Who's the worst, who's the one basically it's like the
[9:14] Speaker 3: first time I work with Diddy, and I'm like so excited.
[9:18] Speaker 3: I'm like, oh my god, this guy's like my hero.
[9:20] Speaker 3: Like it's like he's a full legend. And I get there.
[9:23] Speaker 3: He lives up to everything. He's like in the thing
[9:25] Speaker 3: he's getting like his haircut, he's directing a music video.
[9:28] Speaker 3: He's like someone's like doing stuff with his toes. Like
[9:30] Speaker 3: it's like all that stuff for Instagram and stuff is
[9:32] Speaker 3: so real. He's like he was like he was like
[9:34] Speaker 3: it was crazy. There was like somebody he had like
[9:36] Speaker 3: a bottle of champagne that he was like deciding whether
[9:39] Speaker 3: it was gonna be like the new logo, like so
[9:41] Speaker 3: many things are happening at once. And then he's like
[9:43] Speaker 3: I get in there and he's like you always like
[9:45] Speaker 3: you know, I just got back from fucking Paris, Like
[9:48] Speaker 3: I'm in France, I'm in all these different places, Like
[9:50] Speaker 3: I want to make that like fucking like disco shit,
[9:53] Speaker 3: Like the record's spinning and there's fucking cocaine and when
[9:55] Speaker 3: it comes to your turn, you just got to snort
[9:57] Speaker 3: it right up. He's like, I want to make that
[9:58] Speaker 3: good shit. And I was like, oh, oh, so like uh,
[10:01] Speaker 3: like what do you think like something like more like
[10:03] Speaker 3: daft punk or like craft work, and he's like looked
[10:06] Speaker 3: at me.
[10:06] Speaker 1: He was like they.
[10:07] Speaker 3: Shut the fuck up. And I was like, he was
[10:10] Speaker 3: like stop trying to confuse me. And I was like, oh,
[10:12] Speaker 3: I was like okay. I was like I'm sorry, and
[10:15] Speaker 3: then like and and then there was like two people.
[10:18] Speaker 3: I remember there was these people. There was like his
[10:20] Speaker 3: assistant and then someone else's assistant and they were like
[10:23] Speaker 3: and he was like, I bet you my assistants faster
[10:25] Speaker 3: than yours to like the other person. And then they
[10:27] Speaker 3: were like he was there was like and he like yeah,
[10:29] Speaker 3: and they were like both yelling for their assistant and
[10:31] Speaker 3: like did Jesus isn't actually came like later and he
[10:34] Speaker 3: was like you're fired, just like getting fired.
[10:38] Speaker 1: On this.
[10:40] Speaker 3: One time. I was like kind of used to have
[10:42] Speaker 3: this like warehouse. Okay, it's like insane warehouse. And we
[10:47] Speaker 3: like after church, his like uh Sunday services, which actually
[10:51] Speaker 3: were like incredible. They were so sick, like did you
[10:54] Speaker 3: ever go to one? No, they were they were amazing.
[10:56] Speaker 1: They were like allergic to religion.
[10:59] Speaker 3: No, it wasn't religion, it was just like sick. You
[11:00] Speaker 3: were watching like a Kanye show and it's like and
[11:03] Speaker 3: everything he did was like so amazing, Like he was
[11:05] Speaker 3: my hero growing up. So like we're like at one
[11:09] Speaker 3: of his things. I hope we don't lift this. This
[11:12] Speaker 3: one's so good. We were we were we went back
[11:15] Speaker 3: to like his like facility. We had like a factory,
[11:18] Speaker 3: and like you walked in and like we were like
[11:21] Speaker 3: with one of my friends and we were this story's crazy.
[11:26] Speaker 1: We were.
[11:27] Speaker 3: We're like, okay, so we walked into Kanye's factory and
[11:30] Speaker 3: we're like walking around and we walk into my friend's
[11:33] Speaker 3: like little studio and we're just like waiting for Kanye
[11:36] Speaker 3: to show up. And I like I walk into one
[11:39] Speaker 3: room and and it's like all of his like easy
[11:42] Speaker 3: stuff and all the samples, and it all like looks
[11:44] Speaker 3: so cool. It's all like set up in the coolest way.
[11:46] Speaker 3: There's like mood boards everywhere. I'm like this is amazing,
[11:49] Speaker 3: and I'm like touching all the fabrics. And then like
[11:52] Speaker 3: I walk into another room and it's like the coolest
[11:55] Speaker 3: room you've ever seen with just like with just like
[11:58] Speaker 3: shoes and like men and like a ab coats like
[12:01] Speaker 3: making shoes and that are like seventy and I'm like yeah.
[12:05] Speaker 3: I'm like I'm like holy shit. And then I go
[12:07] Speaker 3: into another room and there's like one of those like
[12:09] Speaker 3: big dry erase boards and this is a whole ago
[12:11] Speaker 3: and it says like how to make Kanye West a billionaire?
[12:15] Speaker 3: It was and it was like had like always like
[12:17] Speaker 3: a count information, like just everything on a thing. And
[12:19] Speaker 3: I was like, we're definitely not supposed to be in here,
[12:22] Speaker 3: and it had like like all these different ways to
[12:24] Speaker 3: make him like a billionaire, and I was like, oh shit.
[12:26] Speaker 3: So then we like walk out and we walk into
[12:28] Speaker 3: this other room and it's him and he's having like
[12:32] Speaker 3: a full meeting with like people, and he has a
[12:34] Speaker 3: screen that's bigger than this room. It's like this wrap
[12:37] Speaker 3: around screen. It's like twenty feet tall with like and
[12:40] Speaker 3: it has like a computer on it and they're like
[12:42] Speaker 3: looking at it like a website. And it has this
[12:44] Speaker 3: thing where you like press the clothes and like drag
[12:46] Speaker 3: them and then it's like a woman like in the
[12:48] Speaker 3: clothes and she's moving around and then like a man.
[12:51] Speaker 3: And I'm there with my girlfriend at the time, and
[12:54] Speaker 3: I remember I remember like Yea's in there, and we're
[12:56] Speaker 3: like it's like a few of us and we're like, oh,
[12:58] Speaker 3: I'm sorry, we didn't we didn't mean to come in,
[13:00] Speaker 3: and he's like, no, no, come in and we're like okay.
[13:02] Speaker 3: He's like and he's like my girl at the time.
[13:04] Speaker 3: He's like he's like, what do you think about these clothes?
[13:06] Speaker 3: And she's like, uh, She's like they're they're amazing, They're
[13:09] Speaker 3: so cool. And he's like, go press the button, go
[13:11] Speaker 3: like try it on. Like it like like you can
[13:13] Speaker 3: press a button and we'll make it all try on
[13:15] Speaker 3: and she was like okay, oh sick. So she like
[13:18] Speaker 3: goes up. It's the the screen is like three thirty
[13:21] Speaker 3: foot screens. It's insane, and she like goes to like
[13:26] Speaker 3: click one and you know how like if you like
[13:28] Speaker 3: swipe a mouse like down to the bottom of the screen,
[13:31] Speaker 3: like it like puts the computer in sleep mode. It
[13:34] Speaker 3: literally just goes like this goes sh and we're in
[13:37] Speaker 3: a room full of darkness with all these people and
[13:41] Speaker 3: we're like and she's like losing her mind. And then
[13:44] Speaker 3: like someone's like, hey, do you know the password, and like, uh,
[13:48] Speaker 3: Kinnie's like, oh, let me try and like types in.
[13:50] Speaker 3: It's like then it's like doesn't work, and then he
[13:53] Speaker 3: tries another one. It's like and it just like doesn't work.
[13:56] Speaker 3: And then like finally, like one of my friends just
[13:58] Speaker 3: writes like password in it. It's like no, everything shines
[14:02] Speaker 3: back up and he not hacked all and it was
[14:05] Speaker 3: like and then he like he goes like this she
[14:07] Speaker 3: like she like is still standing by the thing, and
[14:09] Speaker 3: he's like maybe maybe I'll do the next one. And
[14:12] Speaker 3: then he was just like she's had like a full
[14:14] Speaker 3: like walking.
[14:15] Speaker 1: That's like a moment.
[14:17] Speaker 3: That's like a bomb. Yeah, that's a bomb. That's a bomb.
[14:21] Speaker 2: You know.
[14:21] Speaker 3: My favorite is when when whenever like you're with someone
[14:24] Speaker 3: and like like one time I was I was with
[14:27] Speaker 3: my friend and we were like outside of a party
[14:30] Speaker 3: and we couldn't get into this party, and like do
[14:32] Speaker 3: you know how you have some of those friends that
[14:33] Speaker 3: are just like they're shameless, they'll do anything like and
[14:37] Speaker 3: we were like outside of this party, we weren't getting in.
[14:39] Speaker 3: This was like ten years ago. We're probably not gonna
[14:43] Speaker 3: be able to use his name, but we can use
[14:44] Speaker 3: this story. So he's like we're like outside of this
[14:46] Speaker 3: like New Year's party, and we're like there's no way
[14:48] Speaker 3: we're getting in. It's like watching like Brad Pitt walk
[14:51] Speaker 3: in like everyone's walking in, and then we have another
[14:54] Speaker 3: good story up a bomb. So we're watching like Brad
[14:57] Speaker 3: pit walk in and then uh, he literally sees Andy
[15:01] Speaker 3: Garcia walking by that the actor the big actor. Yeah,
[15:05] Speaker 3: you know, so we see like Andy garciam like, oh,
[15:09] Speaker 3: He's like, I'm good friends. He goes I'm friends with him,
[15:12] Speaker 3: and I go you're friends with Andy Garcia and he
[15:14] Speaker 3: goes yeah, and he goes up to him and he goes,
[15:16] Speaker 3: hey Andy, and and he goes like this. He's like
[15:18] Speaker 3: he's like remember me, and then he's like I said,
[15:21] Speaker 3: first of all, if you have to start a sentence, you're
[15:25] Speaker 3: not friends with that person. And then like and then
[15:27] Speaker 3: like he literally goes like it's like right in front
[15:30] Speaker 3: of the bouncer and he's like, remember we had like
[15:31] Speaker 3: dinner like two weeks ago. And then he's like you
[15:34] Speaker 3: remember like I was with like I was with no
[15:36] Speaker 3: One Gary. And then he was like yeah, and then
[15:39] Speaker 3: he was like could you help us get in? And
[15:42] Speaker 3: he's like he's like he's like a Mandy Garcia, what
[15:44] Speaker 3: am I gonna do? You think I'm gonna get you in?
[15:45] Speaker 3: I'll be able to get you in and then he's like,
[15:47] Speaker 3: he's like, come on, just try and then like he
[15:49] Speaker 3: just goes to the bouncer, he's like, you let these
[15:51] Speaker 3: guys in. And then guy's like, but so it wasn't
[15:56] Speaker 3: a bomb, but it was such a bomb. Yeah, it
[15:59] Speaker 3: was a.
[16:00] Speaker 1: Little bit about satisfying just much more satisfyed.
[16:06] Speaker 4: With aerdre with Aerdre, have you ever been beat up before?
[16:20] Speaker 4: You've ever been in a fight or been.
[16:21] Speaker 3: In so many? Yeah, that's not a bomb.
[16:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like about failure. It's not about bombing. It's
[16:28] Speaker 1: just about the trials and tribulation of life. What's a
[16:31] Speaker 1: what's a trying?
[16:32] Speaker 3: I think of like the biggest failure. You're trying to
[16:34] Speaker 3: black those out.
[16:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, but it makes you likable, it makes you endearing.
[16:37] Speaker 1: I'm trying to I'm trying it makes you relatable.
[16:39] Speaker 3: I'm trying to think.
[16:40] Speaker 1: About, like when did you get beat up?
[16:42] Speaker 2: Oh?
[16:42] Speaker 3: My god? So many?
[16:43] Speaker 2: Why?
[16:44] Speaker 1: What what are you talking?
[16:45] Speaker 2: When?
[16:45] Speaker 1: Where what do.
[16:46] Speaker 3: You I used to go to freestyle battles. I would
[16:48] Speaker 3: just like win and then they just beat me up, Like.
[16:51] Speaker 1: I really like a guy like name one, like a
[16:54] Speaker 1: guy punched you in the face. Yeah.
[16:56] Speaker 3: I used to get beat up all the time. That's
[16:57] Speaker 3: not even a good bomb. Let me think as I'm good.
[17:01] Speaker 1: That's great. What are you talking about? You're sitting on gold.
[17:04] Speaker 1: You would go to freestyle rap battles and win. You're
[17:07] Speaker 1: great at freestyle rapping.
[17:08] Speaker 3: I mean I was. I don't think I'm great anymore.
[17:11] Speaker 1: Really, what would you rap a belt?
[17:13] Speaker 3: I don't I don't know. That was like thirteen, it
[17:16] Speaker 3: was thirty, it was twenty something years ago.
[17:18] Speaker 1: And then guys would beat you up when you won.
[17:21] Speaker 1: So you would go to a rap competition and be
[17:23] Speaker 1: like wrap out a rap, rap rap and then some.
[17:26] Speaker 3: I just pledged you just jump me when I left?
[17:30] Speaker 1: Really?
[17:31] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[17:31] Speaker 1: Who? I don't know the guy's name.
[17:33] Speaker 2: Why?
[17:34] Speaker 1: Why is this? Like you're like you couldn't care less?
[17:36] Speaker 1: Like this is like grocery food chopping.
[17:38] Speaker 3: This isn't good. This isn't good. This is a bad bomb.
[17:41] Speaker 1: This is what you gotta talk about failures.
[17:43] Speaker 3: No, no, I want like a good failure.
[17:45] Speaker 1: Let me think of like this is this thing?
[17:47] Speaker 3: No no, no, like like a like a big one, Oh,
[17:49] Speaker 3: like a big a better story. Yeah, let me let
[17:51] Speaker 3: me think of a big one. Okay, this is how
[17:53] Speaker 3: I got into that this is like my first thing
[17:55] Speaker 3: to get really into the music business, and it's like
[17:58] Speaker 3: a bomb. For like six months. Okay, I used to
[18:01] Speaker 3: do this thing where I would go on my Space
[18:03] Speaker 3: and I would direct message every single person in the
[18:07] Speaker 3: world like I could know and like just like be relentless.
[18:11] Speaker 3: And there was this guy. He was one of my
[18:12] Speaker 3: favorite producers. His name was Disco d Okay, and he
[18:20] Speaker 3: did like he created a type of music called ghetto tech.
[18:23] Speaker 3: It's like Detroit Yeah. So he's one of the yeah yeah,
[18:29] Speaker 3: those are all him so so basically.
[18:30] Speaker 1: It's so crazy. So like he just had like a
[18:33] Speaker 1: whole ghetto tech.
[18:34] Speaker 3: So he was like one of the creators of ghetto tech.
[18:36] Speaker 3: And then he also produced like amazing like some of
[18:38] Speaker 3: my favorite like fifty cent songs. Like he was like
[18:41] Speaker 3: he was the first person I ever met. He was
[18:43] Speaker 3: the first parton. He introduced me to spank Rock. He
[18:45] Speaker 3: was working with spank Crock, he was working with most
[18:47] Speaker 3: deaf he was working with.
[18:49] Speaker 1: He didn't know ghetto.
[18:51] Speaker 3: He was one of one of the guys.
[18:52] Speaker 1: There's like one of the Yeah.
[18:55] Speaker 3: So basically I used to d M him every day
[18:58] Speaker 3: and he would never answer, and then I all that
[19:00] Speaker 3: he had a studio time available, and I said, how
[19:06] Speaker 3: did you figure that out? I just saw he had
[19:08] Speaker 3: an ad on on his MySpace for studio time, and
[19:12] Speaker 3: I was like, hey, I want to book out the
[19:15] Speaker 3: studio for a day, and he was like, for sure,
[19:18] Speaker 3: come up here. So I came up. And when I
[19:22] Speaker 3: got to New York, I was living in Virginia at
[19:25] Speaker 3: the time. I drove up. When I got to New York,
[19:28] Speaker 3: I didn't drive. Me and my friends, which I dude,
[19:30] Speaker 3: we would do the craziest things. I didn't have anywhere
[19:32] Speaker 3: to stay, so we would go. I would go up
[19:35] Speaker 3: for meetings. These are yeah, this is the bomb shit.
[19:38] Speaker 3: I would go up for meetings every single weekend. And
[19:40] Speaker 3: I would go on a Friday and I would skip
[19:42] Speaker 3: some of school so I could get there in time
[19:44] Speaker 3: for like the last meeting. And after that, we didn't
[19:48] Speaker 3: have anywhere to stay. We didn't have any money, so
[19:50] Speaker 3: me and all my friends we would sleep in the
[19:53] Speaker 3: McDonald's in Times Square and we would take turn sleeping
[19:56] Speaker 3: and like one person would stay awake and then one
[19:58] Speaker 3: person would sleep. Yeah, And we used to just like, dude,
[20:02] Speaker 3: we used to sleep. We used to sleep in Hoboken
[20:05] Speaker 3: station because like the cops wouldn't come there, and like
[20:08] Speaker 3: we would all yeah, we'd sleep in a car and
[20:11] Speaker 3: like one person would stay awake and we would do
[20:12] Speaker 3: all the ship and it was me and like a
[20:14] Speaker 3: few of my friends. And sometimes like you'd go, I'd
[20:17] Speaker 3: go like all the way there and like the meeting,
[20:20] Speaker 3: they'd be like, ah, sorry, can't make it, like and
[20:23] Speaker 3: I'd be like, fuck, I drove all the way here.
[20:25] Speaker 3: So we'd have to like try to figure out something
[20:27] Speaker 3: we could do. But basically one of the times, I
[20:29] Speaker 3: like go in with Disco deep and I get there
[20:32] Speaker 3: and I'm like, dude, I don't want studio time. I
[20:35] Speaker 3: had to get through to you. I really think I
[20:38] Speaker 3: could be like the best producer in the world. I
[20:40] Speaker 3: think like you could help me, I think. And he
[20:43] Speaker 3: was so angry. He was like, you're wasting my fucking time.
[20:46] Speaker 3: And I was like, dude, please, I'll do anything. And
[20:48] Speaker 3: he said okay. He said, I literally am leaving tomorrow.
[20:53] Speaker 3: I'm gone for two days. If you can book my
[20:55] Speaker 3: studio for the two days you have a job, you
[20:58] Speaker 3: can be my intern. And I said, yeah, of course
[21:01] Speaker 3: I can book the studio.
[21:02] Speaker 1: It was like, no idea how to do no.
[21:04] Speaker 3: Dude, it was like six hundred dollars a day, so
[21:06] Speaker 3: I and we didn't have money. I called every person
[21:09] Speaker 3: I know and I was like, please, I'll pay you back.
[21:13] Speaker 3: I'll do anything, like and I had. I got it
[21:16] Speaker 3: booked somehow. I booked the studio the whole time, and
[21:19] Speaker 3: I put it on. I put in there was like
[21:20] Speaker 3: a few extra hours and I put in two hundred
[21:22] Speaker 3: of my own dollars and I had no money. Yeah,
[21:24] Speaker 3: like and he was like, all right, you did it.
[21:27] Speaker 3: He was like, i'll see you next weekend.
[21:28] Speaker 1: How did you Who did you book? How did you get?
[21:30] Speaker 3: Just any person I knew. I knew a few people
[21:33] Speaker 3: in New York. I knew like these like bad local rappers,
[21:36] Speaker 3: and I would be like, okay, you come for two
[21:38] Speaker 3: hours and then like I'd be like, dude, I'll give
[21:40] Speaker 3: you a deal, and I'd like and I just was
[21:41] Speaker 3: like I finagled. Like it was like I made like
[21:45] Speaker 3: I got like eleven hundred dollars or something in two days,
[21:50] Speaker 3: and I like, I did it by like everyone I
[21:52] Speaker 3: knew and like a few of my friends from Virginia.
[21:54] Speaker 3: I was like, dude, please just like I'll find a
[21:57] Speaker 3: way to get you back, like and I just made
[21:59] Speaker 3: it happen.
[22:00] Speaker 1: Was he like renting? I don't really understand. It was
[22:02] Speaker 1: just like it was just like you rent studio time,
[22:04] Speaker 1: like you can out of his studio, like you can
[22:06] Speaker 1: rent a hourly.
[22:07] Speaker 3: Have you ever been to a studio?
[22:09] Speaker 1: No?
[22:09] Speaker 3: Oh, you've never been to recordings?
[22:10] Speaker 1: I don't. I'm not in music.
[22:12] Speaker 3: Oh okay, So so like so quit when a graduate
[22:15] Speaker 3: when I was twenty so basically playing classical music. So
[22:18] Speaker 3: recording students, recording studios, ye are are rented hourly or
[22:24] Speaker 3: by the day, and it's just like a rate. It's
[22:27] Speaker 3: like a fixed rate. And he had a studio and
[22:28] Speaker 3: when he wasn't using it, he would rent it out.
[22:30] Speaker 1: Oh okay.
[22:31] Speaker 3: And I rented it the whole time, and he was like, great,
[22:34] Speaker 3: come back next weekend. I was like, I have no money.
[22:36] Speaker 3: How am I going to get back? And then he
[22:38] Speaker 3: was like you can stay. He was like, every time
[22:39] Speaker 3: you're in New York, you can stay at my place.
[22:41] Speaker 3: And I was like, okay, so at least I have
[22:43] Speaker 3: a place to stay now. The time I started doing that, sixteen,
[22:47] Speaker 3: I sixteen. About I started doing it, I would travel
[22:49] Speaker 3: back and forth every weekend sixteen.
[22:52] Speaker 1: How long of a drive is four and a half hours?
[22:55] Speaker 3: He tried. I used to take the fun Wa bus
[22:57] Speaker 3: Y Yeah, yeah, dude. He used to be twenty dollars
[23:00] Speaker 3: round trip.
[23:01] Speaker 1: Dude. It was like, oh, take it at three thirty am,
[23:03] Speaker 1: and it was like it was like four bucks it
[23:05] Speaker 1: was and they had like shrimp on the bottom of it.
[23:08] Speaker 1: Broke down.
[23:09] Speaker 3: Oh my god. Yeah, I was on one. It was insane.
[23:13] Speaker 3: It's it would like it would like sometimes it would
[23:16] Speaker 3: just smell like trash the time, and but it was
[23:19] Speaker 3: like it was like heaven to me. I loved it
[23:21] Speaker 3: and I would get back like just in time for.
[23:23] Speaker 1: You were just close enough to New York City to
[23:26] Speaker 1: like release, get to see it start entertainment.
[23:28] Speaker 3: I started.
[23:29] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think like I was going.
[23:31] Speaker 3: In Jersey, Yeah, in New York City.
[23:33] Speaker 1: That's smart that you were like in proximity.
[23:36] Speaker 3: Yeah, it was like it was just close enough. And
[23:38] Speaker 3: like so then when I would go, I.
[23:40] Speaker 1: Think that's half the battle, just being in the place
[23:42] Speaker 1: where it's happening, dude.
[23:43] Speaker 3: So it's so I remember one time I'm there, okay,
[23:47] Speaker 3: I'm I'm eighteen now, and he's like, yo, I got
[23:51] Speaker 3: some important sessions coming through. It was like t I
[23:55] Speaker 3: was there first, and then afterwards it was it was
[23:58] Speaker 3: it was spank Rock and he was like, I got
[24:01] Speaker 3: this guy coming in. He was like, whatever he wants.
[24:05] Speaker 3: You're his studio assistant. You're his bitch, you do whatever
[24:08] Speaker 3: he wants. I was like, okay. So, like it's in
[24:10] Speaker 3: Williamsburg the studio and it's like two thousand and six,
[24:14] Speaker 3: and he walks in and he's like, oh, I'm kind
[24:18] Speaker 3: of hungry, and he was like, can you order me
[24:20] Speaker 3: this thing? So I order him this thing from this
[24:21] Speaker 3: place called any Time. It's not even there anymore. So
[24:24] Speaker 3: like I'm in the session and I like bring him
[24:27] Speaker 3: his food and he's like, hey, what do you think
[24:30] Speaker 3: about this? And he like wraps a thing to me
[24:32] Speaker 3: it's bank Rock, and I'm like, oh man, that's so good.
[24:35] Speaker 3: And then like I'm working with him the next day.
[24:37] Speaker 3: The next day, same thing, bring him in his food
[24:39] Speaker 3: and he's like he's like hey, he's like what rhymes
[24:42] Speaker 3: with like telephone or something, And I was like, oh, maybe,
[24:46] Speaker 3: well maybe telephone. I was like teleophone. I was like
[24:50] Speaker 3: telephone a telephone. Telephone is such a hard one. So
[24:55] Speaker 3: so I like he like takes the line and then
[24:58] Speaker 3: we start like talking and like developing this like report.
[25:01] Speaker 1: But he was new too, he was he was cool.
[25:05] Speaker 3: He was like very cool, and it was like and
[25:07] Speaker 3: I didn't care. I only cared about cool shit because
[25:09] Speaker 3: I was like living in Williamsburg at the time. And
[25:11] Speaker 3: it's like, you know, this was like before Santi was
[25:14] Speaker 3: even a thing, Like we put her on her first,
[25:16] Speaker 3: like her first collaboration was with us, and I remember
[25:21] Speaker 3: like one night they were like, Yo, we're gonna go
[25:23] Speaker 3: back to the studio. I need you to prepare the studio.
[25:26] Speaker 3: So I took the train and the way that it
[25:28] Speaker 3: worked back then is like from where I lived, I
[25:31] Speaker 3: had to go all the way in the city then
[25:32] Speaker 3: all the way back to brook because I lived in
[25:34] Speaker 3: Brooklyn too, but there was no like connector because the
[25:36] Speaker 3: L train used to like not connect to anything. So
[25:39] Speaker 3: like I like went all the way in the city
[25:40] Speaker 3: all the way to his thing, and then he was like, actually,
[25:42] Speaker 3: I need you to bring this demo CD to me.
[25:45] Speaker 3: He's like I'm actually gonna be with Diddy, and I
[25:47] Speaker 3: was like fuck. So I had to go all the
[25:49] Speaker 3: way back then, all the way there, and he's like
[25:52] Speaker 3: and then he was like, we left, We're at the
[25:53] Speaker 3: next place. You got to meet this at the next place.
[25:55] Speaker 1: So I'm like, what the fuck this is?
[25:56] Speaker 3: This is this is disco d He's like, and I'm
[25:59] Speaker 3: like fuck. So I like go to the next place.
[26:02] Speaker 3: And then he's like gone from the next place and
[26:03] Speaker 3: he's like, dude, he's like meet us at the next place.
[26:05] Speaker 3: And I'm running in the rain with the CD and
[26:08] Speaker 3: I'm like and I finally get there and I'm like
[26:11] Speaker 3: and he's like, dude, we went to another place. Just
[26:13] Speaker 3: meet us back at the studio. I'm crushing. No, it's
[26:19] Speaker 3: just like I'm too and I'm like too slow because
[26:22] Speaker 3: I didn't have any money. So I was like fuck it. Yeah,
[26:24] Speaker 3: I was like I got it. I'm just going to
[26:26] Speaker 3: take a taxi for this last thing and I'll just
[26:27] Speaker 3: like eat less the next day. So I like take
[26:30] Speaker 3: the taxi. I get back, I'm like covered in rain
[26:32] Speaker 3: and it's like everyone's there. It's like most death is there.
[26:36] Speaker 3: You're locking every single person there. Everything is a race.
[26:40] Speaker 3: Everything is a race. I'm sitting there and there's like
[26:43] Speaker 3: models and artists and it's like it's crazy. It's like
[26:47] Speaker 3: this was like the first time where I like saw
[26:49] Speaker 3: like I'm like, whoa, yeah, and I'm sitting there and
[26:53] Speaker 3: I remember all the girls and everyone were just like,
[26:56] Speaker 3: oh my god, you're so wet, like like dry off
[26:59] Speaker 3: and and and spank Craft was like, oh man, it's
[27:02] Speaker 3: good to see you. Like and I'm like in heaven.
[27:05] Speaker 3: And then like the guy just humiliates me that disco deep,
[27:10] Speaker 3: just like full humiliate amiliation. First he was like, go
[27:15] Speaker 3: get us, go get us snacks. Okay, So I go downstairs,
[27:18] Speaker 3: I bring them back and it was like he was like,
[27:20] Speaker 3: that's the wrong one. And he opens up a bottle
[27:23] Speaker 3: of a bag of potato chips and pours him on
[27:27] Speaker 3: my head in front of everyone. And then like and
[27:32] Speaker 3: then I'm like and he was like and he was
[27:34] Speaker 3: like and I like finally like walk into the room
[27:38] Speaker 3: and stuff, and he's like, no, you're not allowed in
[27:41] Speaker 3: right now. He's like, you can't come in the room.
[27:42] Speaker 1: And like there's this little's kill samurai dude.
[27:47] Speaker 3: There's this little window and I just can look in
[27:49] Speaker 3: the studio and I see everyone in there like having
[27:53] Speaker 3: I'm like sitting outside. And then I remember the next
[27:55] Speaker 3: day I saw the next he was the best, but
[27:58] Speaker 3: he was, but he was he was trouble. And the
[28:00] Speaker 3: next day I came in and I remember he was like,
[28:03] Speaker 3: all right, play me your beats, because I think he
[28:05] Speaker 3: felt bad. He was like playing your beats and like
[28:08] Speaker 3: playing my beats. And he literally takes all the files
[28:13] Speaker 3: and deletes them. He at least my whole hard drive.
[28:15] Speaker 3: And he's like these suck. And he was like start again,
[28:18] Speaker 3: as a monster. And he goes start again, and then
[28:22] Speaker 3: and then another time, another time he took my hard
[28:25] Speaker 3: drive and he threw it out the window, and and
[28:28] Speaker 3: and and I was like crushed all these because Psycho,
[28:32] Speaker 3: I was crushed. And he would be like but he
[28:35] Speaker 3: would always tell me something. He'd be like, okay, this
[28:38] Speaker 3: is why I deleted all him. He was like, I
[28:39] Speaker 3: want you to watch me make a beat. And I
[28:41] Speaker 3: was like studying him because I was obsessed with this
[28:43] Speaker 3: guy was so far ahead of his time, and he
[28:45] Speaker 3: was so good at dealing with artists and so good
[28:47] Speaker 3: at it.
[28:49] Speaker 1: I learned everything.
[28:52] Speaker 3: I would never be who I am without knowing what
[28:55] Speaker 3: he did. Like really, if he was around for like
[28:58] Speaker 3: a little bit longer, he would have been like one
[29:00] Speaker 3: of the biggest producers. He was just like suicide. He
[29:03] Speaker 3: was he was he was like was too far ahead
[29:05] Speaker 3: of his time, but like and he like he like
[29:08] Speaker 3: it was it was really like karate kidship, but he
[29:10] Speaker 3: would like torture me like it was dude.
[29:13] Speaker 1: One time was he getting off on it?
[29:16] Speaker 3: I think he was just crazy. One time one time
[29:18] Speaker 3: I was literally they had like a session coming and
[29:21] Speaker 3: he wanted to have like a really big screen TV
[29:23] Speaker 3: for the session, like for the as the computer. And
[29:26] Speaker 3: I remember I was setting it up and he was
[29:28] Speaker 3: like faster and he had a bamboo stick and he
[29:31] Speaker 3: was hitting me with.
[29:35] Speaker 1: Putting it out.
[29:36] Speaker 3: I was like, you wanted bombs, here's my bombs. And
[29:41] Speaker 3: I was like and like I was just like crushed,
[29:43] Speaker 3: but like he would just give me these like nuggets
[29:45] Speaker 3: of gold like at all times, and like honestly, like
[29:49] Speaker 3: a lot of the people that I work with today
[29:52] Speaker 3: are people that I met through those times. So it's
[29:54] Speaker 3: like so it's like I don't know if this is
[29:57] Speaker 3: supposed to be one of those things, but it's like
[29:58] Speaker 3: all the ship you're taking and all this stuff you're
[30:02] Speaker 3: doing to build up your career and you think it's
[30:05] Speaker 3: not worth it, Like that stuff comes back, like I'm
[30:08] Speaker 3: working with these people. I'm working with people I literally
[30:11] Speaker 3: met seventeen years ago, seventeen eighteen years ago, and I
[30:16] Speaker 3: went through some shit, and it's like, dude, I went
[30:18] Speaker 3: through so much shit. You know how many times? Like
[30:20] Speaker 3: I didn't get credit, Like I like made a whole
[30:22] Speaker 3: song and.
[30:23] Speaker 1: Got no credit stolen from you? Oh my god, are
[30:26] Speaker 1: you fucking kidding me? Dude? Horrendous dude.
[30:30] Speaker 3: One time I had a number one song stolen front
[30:33] Speaker 3: no credit, one song, no credit, and I remember I
[30:36] Speaker 3: like went in I went into the manager of that
[30:39] Speaker 3: person's thing office and I was like and I was like,
[30:43] Speaker 3: they stole my song, and he was like, no, they didn't.
[30:46] Speaker 3: And then I opened up a laptop and I played
[30:48] Speaker 3: my version with a date stamp that was like before
[30:50] Speaker 3: the one they created. And then I remember like the
[30:52] Speaker 3: manager was like hold on. He like closed the door
[30:55] Speaker 3: and he was like, well, let's just talk about this.
[30:58] Speaker 3: And then I remember I called the person who stole
[31:00] Speaker 3: it from me and I was like, hey, man, you
[31:02] Speaker 3: you stole that thing like that was mine. I did that,
[31:05] Speaker 3: like I did that, and he said what are you
[31:08] Speaker 3: gonna do about it? And then he was like he
[31:10] Speaker 3: was like he goes I'll bury you in legal fees.
[31:14] Speaker 3: He goes, you don't have any money to fight this,
[31:16] Speaker 3: he goes, just just take this one. Just just just
[31:19] Speaker 3: like gave me like a virtual pat on the back.
[31:22] Speaker 3: He was like, you just take this one. You'll get
[31:23] Speaker 3: the next one. Like, oh my god, do you know
[31:27] Speaker 3: how many do you know how many times?
[31:30] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[31:30] Speaker 3: Yeah? But like but but all of those moments like
[31:33] Speaker 3: that's why I like when I signed kids like it
[31:35] Speaker 3: makes it gives me like so much pleasure to like
[31:38] Speaker 3: to like give these guys like fair deals and like and.
[31:41] Speaker 1: Like put potato chips in their hair.
[31:44] Speaker 3: No, no, but to like watch these dudes, Like I
[31:47] Speaker 3: have so many people that I signed that I watched them, Like, dude,
[31:49] Speaker 3: I have like a.
[31:50] Speaker 1: Well you're like you're like an abused child that gets
[31:52] Speaker 1: to like raise.
[31:53] Speaker 3: And I didn't yeah, and I didn't, like I didn't
[31:57] Speaker 3: do that. I like paid it forward. And it's like
[31:59] Speaker 3: it's so cool to like see that. So it's like
[32:01] Speaker 3: all these things that you have like when you're growing up,
[32:04] Speaker 3: they make you who you.
[32:06] Speaker 1: Are, right, Okay, but it is traumatic.
[32:09] Speaker 3: Oh my god, you have to you have to process that, kidding.
[32:12] Speaker 3: I have so much trauma, Like this thing could go.
[32:16] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[32:16] Speaker 3: Yeah, when when I was honestly like one, when when
[32:21] Speaker 3: I was like twenty something and I like start like
[32:24] Speaker 3: twenty one and I started getting like so much success
[32:26] Speaker 3: that started making money for the first time, I didn't
[32:28] Speaker 3: know what to do. I lost my mind. I lost
[32:31] Speaker 3: my crazy. I lost my mind. I like didn't leave
[32:34] Speaker 3: the house for like six months. I was like gore phobic,
[32:37] Speaker 3: Like I like, dude, I literally lost my mind and
[32:41] Speaker 3: I and I had to see. I had to see
[32:43] Speaker 3: Like I saw a therapist like three times a week,
[32:46] Speaker 3: and he like built me back and then like and
[32:48] Speaker 3: then I came back like better than.
[32:49] Speaker 1: Ever lost your mind doing drugs or lost just.
[32:52] Speaker 3: Like it was all too much. There's too much pressure,
[32:55] Speaker 3: too much driver, too much money, too much. Like I
[32:57] Speaker 3: just like didn't I didn't understand, Like I wasn't built
[33:00] Speaker 3: like that. I've never seen.
[33:01] Speaker 1: Any of this shit. Yea, I didn't know song stealing was,
[33:04] Speaker 1: so it goes right all that shit that's fucked up. Yeah,
[33:07] Speaker 1: and like because like joke thievery and comedy is so
[33:11] Speaker 1: taboo and all comics will snitch on you if you
[33:13] Speaker 1: steal a joke, Like comics are looking out for each
[33:15] Speaker 1: other with joke thievery comics are looking out for each
[33:19] Speaker 1: other with that.
[33:19] Speaker 3: You ever steal a joke?
[33:21] Speaker 1: Never, no, never, I have like one type of comedy.
[33:26] Speaker 1: My comedic creative choices are so idiosyncratic and specific. If
[33:32] Speaker 1: I even if I stole a joke, it wouldn't work.
[33:35] Speaker 1: I have like one I sing one song and I
[33:38] Speaker 1: say it, well, like there's only there's only one tempo,
[33:41] Speaker 1: one speed, one volume. You know, I only can do
[33:45] Speaker 1: one thing. So and even if like I had a
[33:48] Speaker 1: joke that was like similar to somebody else's joke and
[33:50] Speaker 1: like it was written from my it was purely written
[33:54] Speaker 1: for it never went on TV or anything. But just
[33:56] Speaker 1: somebody like suggested like oh no, Lucy kas a joking
[33:59] Speaker 1: that I never did it, yeah, and that I never
[34:02] Speaker 1: put it on Netflix. I never went on TV. Just
[34:04] Speaker 1: I like I did it at the Laughactory, and like
[34:07] Speaker 1: they would put comics on their website. Sometimes somebody who
[34:09] Speaker 1: was like in the comments was like, that reminds me
[34:11] Speaker 1: of this joke, And I was like, just the fact
[34:13] Speaker 1: that it reminds you of that joke, it's gone. It's
[34:16] Speaker 1: out of the repertoire.
[34:17] Speaker 3: Yeah, No, it's just like it's like but getting crushed
[34:21] Speaker 3: is like part of it. It's like it's all, it's
[34:24] Speaker 3: all like I don't know.
[34:25] Speaker 1: I just don't. I've known you for a while. I
[34:26] Speaker 1: didn't know any of that shit happened here. It's crazy.
[34:28] Speaker 3: Oh my god, I have so many where I'm just
[34:31] Speaker 3: like crushed.
[34:32] Speaker 1: The chips on the head is shitty.
[34:33] Speaker 3: Oh my god, I got, I got. When you're coming up,
[34:36] Speaker 3: you really get crushed.
[34:37] Speaker 2: Like.
[34:38] Speaker 1: The people that are successful are the people that just
[34:39] Speaker 1: willing to put up with all that crushing. Oh and
[34:42] Speaker 1: they don't get discouraged enough to quit.
[34:43] Speaker 2: Dude.
[34:44] Speaker 1: You just can't give up, dude, you keep going.
[34:46] Speaker 3: We would. We would stay in the studio for like
[34:50] Speaker 3: a week at a time. I would fall asleep. I
[34:52] Speaker 3: remember I was I was falling asleep at the computer
[34:56] Speaker 3: and and and like and like they were throwing at
[34:59] Speaker 3: me and they were like, you'd wake up. They're like,
[35:01] Speaker 3: we gotta keep going, and I was like, I was like,
[35:04] Speaker 3: like the dude. One time I had to go to
[35:06] Speaker 3: the hospital. I was so sick and exhausted and exhaustion
[35:11] Speaker 3: like the medical term. Again, Yeah, no, I had actual
[35:14] Speaker 3: I had like actual fatigue. And they had, dude, they
[35:18] Speaker 3: they had to like the people I was working with,
[35:20] Speaker 3: they had me on a on like a schedule and
[35:24] Speaker 3: like a thing that would ring and it would be
[35:25] Speaker 3: like you gotta go to bed now, Bennie, like to
[35:27] Speaker 3: get me like back to like life. Like dude, we
[35:30] Speaker 3: were working like I was working like like sixty hours straight.
[35:34] Speaker 3: But like that shit like makes you that ship.
[35:37] Speaker 1: Made totally totally absolutely. I was so broke when I
[35:41] Speaker 1: started doing comedy. I was homeless. I would sleep in
[35:43] Speaker 1: the park. There's a little park called Saint Barton's Park.
[35:46] Speaker 1: I would ask. I would go on stage at open mics,
[35:48] Speaker 1: do my set, try to make everybody laugh, and then
[35:51] Speaker 1: ask audience members if I could sleep over their house.
[35:54] Speaker 1: Did they say yeah? Sometimes I would. I would add
[35:56] Speaker 1: like tooth brushes all over the city. I would like
[35:58] Speaker 1: crash at different people's houses. I would sleep outside.
[36:01] Speaker 3: It's crazy.
[36:02] Speaker 1: I would eat like one dollar microwave Indian food for breakfast, lunch,
[36:05] Speaker 1: and dinner because there was the cheapest thing.
[36:08] Speaker 3: When you have the.
[36:12] Speaker 1: This is like this is like just just after.
[36:16] Speaker 3: You're just like taking it off.
[36:18] Speaker 1: I had like patchwork.
[36:22] Speaker 3: No, dude, it's like, dude, we're bombing, like like everyone's bombing.
[36:25] Speaker 1: First it doesn't end. Bombing doesn't really end constantly, it
[36:28] Speaker 1: doesn't end. Yeah, your failures will never.
[36:30] Speaker 3: End, you know how often? Like I feel like, but
[36:32] Speaker 3: nobody knows. Like everyone's just like, dude, you make like
[36:35] Speaker 3: every big song work. You know how many songs I have,
[36:37] Speaker 3: They're just like complete. And the crazy thing is I'll
[36:40] Speaker 3: be like I'll be like, this ship's gonna be the
[36:41] Speaker 3: fucking best ever, and that just like fails and I'm like,
[36:43] Speaker 3: oh well, yeah, I'm like stort again, this gonna be
[36:46] Speaker 3: the best, Like and I just like, I just like,
[36:49] Speaker 3: won't I refuse to quit? Yeah, I don't give a fuck.
[36:51] Speaker 3: I'll phil every day. I don't give two ships that
[36:54] Speaker 3: I care successful. I'm like I'm shameless than that. Like
[36:57] Speaker 3: I don't care about failure at all. Like it's like,
[37:00] Speaker 3: do you care about failure? Does it crush you?
[37:01] Speaker 1: I've had it crush me before when I go up.
[37:05] Speaker 1: I bombed on stage the other night doing stand up,
[37:07] Speaker 1: not last night but last week, and it used to
[37:10] Speaker 1: crush me. And now I just look at my jokes
[37:15] Speaker 1: like totally objectively. I'll just be like, all right, I'm
[37:18] Speaker 1: gonna do this, this, this, this, And I went up
[37:20] Speaker 1: on stage, and I had my notes with me, and
[37:22] Speaker 1: I was just like, but da da da dah. I
[37:23] Speaker 1: did one joke and went well. Then I was like, great,
[37:25] Speaker 1: that joke works. And then I was like blah blah
[37:27] Speaker 1: blah crickets and I was like that joke made work.
[37:30] Speaker 1: And then I was like, but da da da, Okay,
[37:32] Speaker 1: that joke still got some fucking gas in it. Now
[37:35] Speaker 1: it's like just objective, like I don't take it personally.
[37:37] Speaker 1: I'm just like uh huh huh. And then I'll go
[37:39] Speaker 1: back and I'll listen to the voice memo and I'll
[37:41] Speaker 1: be like, oh, yeah, I stuttered over that word, and
[37:43] Speaker 1: I was like, oh, that's too harsh for the audience's ears.
[37:45] Speaker 1: I should reorder that. I just look at it completely objectively.
[37:48] Speaker 3: What if you make like a movie and it just bombed,
[37:50] Speaker 3: soul crushing, shout soul crushing.
[37:53] Speaker 1: I've only made one movie and it did well, but
[37:55] Speaker 1: it didn't make any money. So I did it? Did
[37:58] Speaker 1: it bombed and did well simultaneously?
[38:00] Speaker 3: Do you read like reviews, Like if somebody said, like
[38:02] Speaker 3: a bad review about Eric Andre show, are you crushed?
[38:05] Speaker 1: What we did for Netflix? We took all the bad
[38:07] Speaker 1: reviews and we put it as part of the marketing.
[38:09] Speaker 1: So it's like, this movie's disgusting times, this movie's fucking
[38:13] Speaker 1: written by children New York But whatever, you know what
[38:15] Speaker 1: I mean? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Sometimes I'll tell my publicists, like,
[38:20] Speaker 1: don't send me the bad reviews.
[38:21] Speaker 3: I'm not would your publicier send you the bad review
[38:24] Speaker 3: all the time? That's crazy.
[38:26] Speaker 1: He'll go, he'll go, and he has him in order.
[38:28] Speaker 1: It'll be like great, overwhelmingly great, good, medium, mixed, unfavorable, brutal.
[38:36] Speaker 1: They'll have them online and do you go. You go
[38:38] Speaker 1: right for the brute. Used to go right for the brutal.
[38:40] Speaker 1: Now I started protecting myself against that stuff early on.
[38:43] Speaker 1: It depends. It depends like when the when something first
[38:45] Speaker 1: comes out, that's when you're the most sensitive. And then
[38:48] Speaker 1: with time you can stomach the bad reviews. But sometimes
[38:51] Speaker 1: bad reviews are good for you. You want to look at,
[38:53] Speaker 1: like all the negative feedback and see where there's commonalities
[38:57] Speaker 1: and take that as a note, be like, you know what,
[39:00] Speaker 1: we shouldn't do a scene like that again. So it's
[39:03] Speaker 1: not all about it's not all about the best. The
[39:06] Speaker 1: best was The New York Times reviewer ripped us a
[39:09] Speaker 1: new asshole. That's tough because the Times you wanted times,
[39:12] Speaker 1: which good for bad trip. Then the New York Times
[39:16] Speaker 1: Sunday section came back for like whatever, the lifestyle or
[39:19] Speaker 1: whatever and gave us like the best review ever. So
[39:23] Speaker 1: it was like, oh, there's inner New York Times turmoil.
[39:25] Speaker 1: And it was like such a victory because it's like
[39:28] Speaker 1: the Sunday section they don't need to report on. It
[39:30] Speaker 1: wasn't like a movie reviewer. It was like just like
[39:33] Speaker 1: lifestyle and whatever the fuck, and he gave us a
[39:36] Speaker 1: fucking awesome review and it was such a fucking victory.
[39:39] Speaker 1: I was like, hell, yes, you want like the New
[39:42] Speaker 1: York Times. I don't even want that shit. That's a
[39:43] Speaker 1: shit your printing frame, you know.
[39:45] Speaker 3: Of course, my mom, like my mom actually thinks I
[39:49] Speaker 3: thought I was like nothing until I was like a
[39:52] Speaker 3: backup on s and now. One time, dude, one time, Oh,
[39:57] Speaker 3: actually I have a good one. One time I'm playing
[40:01] Speaker 3: a show and uh, we're on stage and it's front
[40:05] Speaker 3: of like twenty thousand people, okay, and it's with the
[40:09] Speaker 3: band and I'm they're all playing and I'm controlling all
[40:13] Speaker 3: of the music, so like so like you know, how
[40:15] Speaker 3: like people played a track and like and I am
[40:18] Speaker 3: in controlling the entire thing, and I have like a
[40:22] Speaker 3: real computer that's like it's like plugged dan and stuff,
[40:27] Speaker 3: and this guy is like playing a guitar. He's so
[40:30] Speaker 3: fucked up and he's like and he's like boo and
[40:33] Speaker 3: then knocks out my plug and the computer shuts out
[40:38] Speaker 3: and they're like just like because there's no track, and
[40:42] Speaker 3: then I'm like fuck and it's like we're completely empty.
[40:45] Speaker 3: And then I go to plug it back in and
[40:47] Speaker 3: we're we're at like a festival and it literally when
[40:50] Speaker 3: the computer turns on, it was like.
[40:55] Speaker 2: It was like.
[40:57] Speaker 3: Everyone was so sick when it happened, but it was like,
[41:05] Speaker 3: but yeah, it's like three oh three at the time,
[41:09] Speaker 3: it was at Warped tour headline, like just like fucked
[41:13] Speaker 3: we just fucked it off. Like it's just like yeah,
[41:15] Speaker 3: I'm just like, dude, we're getting like crushed every day
[41:18] Speaker 3: every day. His crush every day is just like a full,
[41:22] Speaker 3: a full like just melt down, just like I'm I'm
[41:26] Speaker 3: like melting down and having the time of my life
[41:28] Speaker 3: at all time. Like you know, when you look at
[41:31] Speaker 3: like in music, you got.
[41:33] Speaker 1: To lose, you gotta do it. You gotta try, try
[41:35] Speaker 1: and fail, don't.
[41:36] Speaker 3: Know, comedies like this, Like, but like I can, depending
[41:39] Speaker 3: on like a day, like I can like look at
[41:41] Speaker 3: myself and just be like, dude, this is the best
[41:43] Speaker 3: album like I've ever made, and then like the next day,
[41:46] Speaker 3: I can just be like this trash, like my career
[41:48] Speaker 3: is over totally, like and it's.
[41:49] Speaker 1: Just like I'll write a joke and I'll be like,
[41:51] Speaker 1: I'm a fucking genius. Yeah, I wrote the best joke
[41:53] Speaker 1: in the world, and then I will say it on
[41:56] Speaker 1: stage and it will bomb horribly. I'm like, I'm a
[41:59] Speaker 1: fucking ass. I'm a loser. This joke, Fuck this jokes.
[42:05] Speaker 1: I met up a fucking loser. Yeah.
[42:06] Speaker 3: What's your biggest bomb?
[42:07] Speaker 1: Have you said it on the pod a million times?
[42:09] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[42:10] Speaker 1: I like bombed opening up for Chris Rock. You know what,
[42:12] Speaker 1: there's so many bombs in the beginning, That's what I'm
[42:14] Speaker 1: saying that. It's like it's kind of like when you
[42:16] Speaker 1: were like, yeah, yeah, I got beat up at a
[42:18] Speaker 1: freestyle wrap. It's like, yeah, yeah, I got a bottle
[42:20] Speaker 1: thrown at me and a knife pull out him. I'm like,
[42:22] Speaker 1: it's kind of all a blur to me. It's like, yeah,
[42:25] Speaker 1: it's like another day at the office.
[42:26] Speaker 3: So you're just bombing at all times.
