[0:55] Speaker 2: Okay, the theme is podcast is bombing. I'm with my illustrious, sexy, divine, beautiful,
[1:05] Speaker 2: vanilla Eurocentric brother, Doug Lusson Hop DJ Doug Pound in
[1:11] Speaker 2: the mix.
[1:12] Speaker 1: What's up, Doug?
[1:13] Speaker 3: What'saw?
[1:13] Speaker 1: Eric gras A be here, Grates of Bomb.
[1:15] Speaker 2: I'm feasting my eyes on your beautiful lily white vanilla
[1:20] Speaker 2: skin and I'm thinking of you like a little creamsickle.
[1:23] Speaker 4: That makes me comforted. Should you talk about bombing? Like
[1:27] Speaker 4: not just like as a comedian, but like in life,
[1:30] Speaker 4: you know, never like bomb hard, Like, yeah, what's your
[1:33] Speaker 4: biggest bomb?
[1:34] Speaker 1: Growing up? Like, did you ever ask a girl out? Yeah?
[1:37] Speaker 2: Remember I was with you when I first moved. I
[1:40] Speaker 2: had that a drop.
[1:41] Speaker 4: Oh talk about talk about the drop.
[1:45] Speaker 1: Never this is anymore. So I wanked these two attractive
[1:58] Speaker 1: women at the bar you're.
[2:00] Speaker 2: At, and I was like trying to like strike up
[2:03] Speaker 2: a conversation, but striking out there's like not interesting. So
[2:07] Speaker 2: I just like had my little whiskey in my hand
[2:09] Speaker 2: and I just like acid dropped.
[2:11] Speaker 4: He just let it go and shattered, and then he
[2:13] Speaker 4: just did a full walk out of the bar.
[2:15] Speaker 1: I just like looked at themically. It's like psychonic, looked
[2:19] Speaker 1: at them catatonically, like.
[2:20] Speaker 4: Six whiskeys in You're like, Hi, should I have your
[2:23] Speaker 4: never to like, so you just let go of your
[2:26] Speaker 4: glass drop full of shatter.
[2:28] Speaker 1: I just left. People are like, what, it's such a flower.
[2:34] Speaker 4: Those days are funny because you were working on your
[2:37] Speaker 4: your pilot.
[2:38] Speaker 1: I'd be like, hey, Eric, let's go out to the
[2:40] Speaker 1: bar tonight and strike out and you'd be like, yeah,
[2:44] Speaker 1: come scoop me up. And then I'm like all right,
[2:47] Speaker 1: I'm on front. You're like, no, come in.
[2:52] Speaker 4: And then you like show me your laptop with like
[2:55] Speaker 4: five thousand things on the desktop and like all this
[2:58] Speaker 4: onlinked media and final cut for You're like you're like,
[3:03] Speaker 4: help me edit. You're like, help me hit my pilot.
[3:06] Speaker 4: I'm like okay, And then I ended up just sitting
[3:09] Speaker 4: there for like an hour.
[3:10] Speaker 1: It was not true.
[3:11] Speaker 4: Yeah, every single time we were gonna go out, you're like,
[3:13] Speaker 4: how come I lured you? You're like, what is this?
[3:17] Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, well, you got to render that. I'm like, okay,
[3:20] Speaker 4: hold on, let me relink this media. Then we finally
[3:25] Speaker 4: go out, you're just dropping wis like, okay, that was
[3:29] Speaker 4: a fun night.
[3:30] Speaker 2: Yeah, I lured you into my trap and we'll get
[3:32] Speaker 2: to bombing soon. But for the Eric Andre Show, I
[3:36] Speaker 2: knew I had to make it myself, like the first
[3:38] Speaker 2: version of it, because I knew I want to like
[3:40] Speaker 2: translate on a script.
[3:41] Speaker 1: It had to be what you had in your mind,
[3:43] Speaker 1: had to be what I had.
[3:44] Speaker 3: In my mind.
[3:44] Speaker 2: So I didn't know, and I didn't have any money.
[3:47] Speaker 2: So I didn't have any money to like hire any editors.
[3:50] Speaker 2: So I like, well, you made it, you must have
[3:52] Speaker 2: had some Was that all free? That first thing you
[3:55] Speaker 2: shot in like Brooklyn? That was like all out of
[3:58] Speaker 2: my pocket and I was like working jobs to pay
[4:01] Speaker 2: for it. And where did you shoot that? I had
[4:03] Speaker 2: an abandoned bodega in Brooklyn for like the three hundred bucks.
[4:07] Speaker 1: You saw like an abandoned bodega, and you're like, he
[4:09] Speaker 1: knows cow.
[4:10] Speaker 2: And Andrew found that bodega and they would have like
[4:13] Speaker 2: punk shows there, Oh okay, and there was a few
[4:16] Speaker 2: rounds of it. There'd be like ratchet nasty. It was
[4:18] Speaker 2: a rats nust and there's always like broken glass there.
[4:22] Speaker 2: I was doing stunts where there was like broken glass everywhere.
[4:24] Speaker 2: There's a bunch of people like competing. They like we
[4:27] Speaker 2: were filming in there, and there'd be like some hipster
[4:28] Speaker 2: guy would come in and be.
[4:29] Speaker 1: Like what do you what do you guys do? What
[4:30] Speaker 1: the fuck are you guys? Get the fuck out of here.
[4:32] Speaker 2: Would be like, what we talked to so and so
[4:34] Speaker 2: he said he said we could film in here, and.
[4:36] Speaker 1: They'd be like, oh, you talked to so and so.
[4:38] Speaker 1: We'll tell that motherfucker he owes me three grand and then.
[4:41] Speaker 2: That guy would storm out, and then some other dude
[4:44] Speaker 2: would walk in, like a Jamaican dude from the neighborhood to.
[4:46] Speaker 1: Walk in and be like, what the fuck are you guys
[4:48] Speaker 1: doing in here?
[4:48] Speaker 2: It would be like what we talked to so and so,
[4:50] Speaker 2: like he said we could film in here. He'd be like,
[4:52] Speaker 2: oh really he said that. Huh, Well, I'm gonna have
[4:55] Speaker 2: a fucking chat with him. I hope you're giving him
[4:57] Speaker 2: good money because the Boddy there was like all these
[5:00] Speaker 2: competing people kept interrupting like on cue, like it was insane.
[5:04] Speaker 2: One after another that was behind the scenes is crazier
[5:06] Speaker 2: than most for the camera. So I was like really struggling,
[5:10] Speaker 2: Like I read Final Cut for dummies. I would watch tutorials,
[5:14] Speaker 2: but I would bug you and another editor I.
[5:17] Speaker 1: Knew to like help me as much as possible because
[5:20] Speaker 1: I was struggling. I was like I have to. I
[5:22] Speaker 1: hope this works.
[5:23] Speaker 4: Because I know I'm very bro I remember looking at
[5:26] Speaker 4: it thinking like what the hell is this show? You?
[5:29] Speaker 2: This is a mess. I was like, this is a
[5:32] Speaker 2: this is a mess. Segments like McDonald you were like
[5:37] Speaker 2: in McDonald's.
[5:38] Speaker 4: Just as Ronald McDonald, like drinking whiskey and crying. And
[5:47] Speaker 4: then there was the when you're like an escape slave man.
[5:59] Speaker 1: It was that Williamsburg. Yeah, it wasn't like the.
[6:02] Speaker 2: Official colonias, but it was one of those like knockoff
[6:05] Speaker 2: civil war, like a fake like the Civil War.
[6:08] Speaker 4: Reaactly right. They're all over the country. So what happened
[6:11] Speaker 4: when you did that? Did anyone care? Where They're just
[6:14] Speaker 4: like okay, no, they were like in are they kicking
[6:16] Speaker 4: you out? No, they were in shock.
[6:17] Speaker 2: And then they were like pumped really yeah yeah they
[6:20] Speaker 2: were like what they were Actually this adds a layer
[6:22] Speaker 2: of reality. Yeah yeah, they were like jaw dropped. And
[6:26] Speaker 2: then they were like, oh shit, that's tight.
[6:28] Speaker 5: Nice with aridre with are okay? What's the worst you
[6:43] Speaker 5: ever bopped?
[6:44] Speaker 3: All right?
[6:44] Speaker 1: They for us. All right.
[6:46] Speaker 4: There's this festival in New Zealand. It doesn't exist anymore,
[6:50] Speaker 4: but it was called a Low Hum and people would
[6:53] Speaker 4: go to it and they don't know who's on the
[6:56] Speaker 4: bill until you get there. So I thought that was
[6:58] Speaker 4: that's kind of a cool and my friend, oh Vice Cooler,
[7:01] Speaker 4: who is who's a musician, was like, oh, that's the
[7:03] Speaker 4: coolest festival in the world of all the festivals they've
[7:07] Speaker 4: ever done.
[7:07] Speaker 1: That's the coolest one.
[7:08] Speaker 4: And I think Dan Deacon even said like that's his
[7:10] Speaker 4: favorite festival.
[7:11] Speaker 2: Oh so your boys are like hyping it up and
[7:14] Speaker 2: there's no lineup, it's just a surprise everything.
[7:17] Speaker 4: He every guesses he's hyping it up. And he said
[7:19] Speaker 4: it was awesome. And you're out in the jungle like somewhere,
[7:23] Speaker 4: like it's not in it's not in the city, you're not. Yeah,
[7:26] Speaker 4: you're camping and you're out like far I don't know,
[7:29] Speaker 4: like an hour from Wellington right right, and you're in
[7:32] Speaker 4: the mountains exactly.
[7:34] Speaker 1: So somebody contacted me is like, hey, we'll flay you
[7:36] Speaker 1: out like for this festival.
[7:38] Speaker 4: Oh cool. So I fly like fifteen hours to do
[7:41] Speaker 4: this one show. I'm at this everyone is like together
[7:46] Speaker 4: at this like it looks like mash or something looks
[7:48] Speaker 4: like so they put you know, it's a music festival
[7:52] Speaker 4: and they put me on.
[7:53] Speaker 1: At one am. Yeah. I think to like kind of
[7:56] Speaker 1: punk the crowd.
[7:57] Speaker 4: I think the guy who ran it kind of likes
[7:59] Speaker 4: to you know, kind of like mess with people's expectations, right,
[8:04] Speaker 4: and everyone is like on mally and like right, and
[8:07] Speaker 4: it's a music festival out in the woods, right, and
[8:10] Speaker 4: they put me on at one am, and you know,
[8:11] Speaker 4: my act is like DJ Doug cons, so people think, oh,
[8:14] Speaker 4: there's a DJ on right now, my acid is kicking in.
[8:18] Speaker 1: This is perfect.
[8:20] Speaker 4: And I like hard cut to like some knock knot
[8:23] Speaker 4: joke or something, and everyone's just like screaming at me,
[8:27] Speaker 4: throwing shit, oh shit, And it was bad.
[8:30] Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like they were not having it. It
[8:33] Speaker 2: vatile absolutely enraged. I'm on the main stage too. There's
[8:37] Speaker 2: like different stages. They could have put me on the
[8:38] Speaker 2: weird I'm on the big one in front of like
[8:42] Speaker 2: the big crowd of people and there was like twenty
[8:46] Speaker 2: people who knew who I was in front, like this
[8:48] Speaker 2: is the best thing I've ever seen. And then like
[8:51] Speaker 2: there's just hundreds of people just like super pissed.
[8:54] Speaker 1: They were chucking something. I would like tell a joke
[8:56] Speaker 1: and play a beat for a.
[8:57] Speaker 2: Little bit as like you know, part of the remix
[9:00] Speaker 2: of it, and they started thinking.
[9:02] Speaker 4: That its like hard cut be like so I'm dating
[9:04] Speaker 4: again or whatever, you know, like and.
[9:07] Speaker 1: They're likeing, hey to me. Some girl got off.
[9:09] Speaker 2: On stage and stole my mic oh and she was
[9:11] Speaker 2: like freestyle rapping and I'm like, there's no security.
[9:14] Speaker 4: This is kind of like a mom and pop festival.
[9:17] Speaker 4: And the guy who, the booker, who he's just like
[9:19] Speaker 4: this is the greatest. He's like, this is what I wanted.
[9:22] Speaker 4: He set it up to be like chaos, you know,
[9:24] Speaker 4: it was like funny for him, just him and I
[9:27] Speaker 4: just like powered through. And then I like I was
[9:29] Speaker 4: just bombing so hard that I tried to like plug
[9:32] Speaker 4: in my laptop up, like plugging.
[9:35] Speaker 1: It into like play music. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[9:37] Speaker 2: So I like played a few songs at the end
[9:39] Speaker 2: of it, and people sort of were like, Okay, it
[9:42] Speaker 2: was just like and then she was just gone already
[9:44] Speaker 2: for the remix and just did a thirty minute remix,
[9:47] Speaker 2: like li.
[9:48] Speaker 4: I just I just kind of like that was a
[9:51] Speaker 4: good lesson or whatever, because I've been in situations like
[9:56] Speaker 4: that where I'm booked at the wrong thing and I
[9:58] Speaker 4: just power through.
[9:58] Speaker 2: I just pretend like it's not how I never do
[10:01] Speaker 2: comedy at a outdoor festival anymore. Daytime outdoor festival. You
[10:06] Speaker 2: could get away with it at this point. Uh.
[10:09] Speaker 1: And I've talked to a lot of people about it.
[10:13] Speaker 2: I go, have you ever had a good set a
[10:15] Speaker 2: good comedy set at an hour door daytime I've done
[10:19] Speaker 2: one of those, people are like, you could see everyone unanimously.
[10:23] Speaker 2: Everyone's like it, that's the worst venue for comedy in
[10:28] Speaker 2: the fucking world.
[10:29] Speaker 1: It's not even that great of a venue for music.
[10:30] Speaker 1: Best part of the story is coming up.
[10:32] Speaker 2: Sorry sorry, sorry, So the girls the microphone dude, that
[10:35] Speaker 2: was okay. Some people like absolutely loved it. They like,
[10:39] Speaker 2: can I have your shirt? They like they wanted my
[10:42] Speaker 2: Like I wear like a shirt with.
[10:44] Speaker 1: My name on it.
[10:44] Speaker 4: Yeah, It's like, hey, you just were begging me for
[10:47] Speaker 4: the shirt. I gave it to him. I was like, oh,
[10:48] Speaker 4: who cares? You know, like that was like a terrifying experience.
[10:52] Speaker 4: And then, you know, most of the crowd hated it,
[10:55] Speaker 4: but they were just like we want to fucking dance.
[10:57] Speaker 4: This is a nightmare or whatever.
[10:59] Speaker 6: This sucks.
[11:00] Speaker 4: So then I'm stuck at this camp for like there
[11:03] Speaker 4: was night one.
[11:04] Speaker 2: Of like three nights. So then I'm like I was
[11:09] Speaker 2: the paria of Oh no. So I'm walking around just
[11:13] Speaker 2: like trudging through this camp like people are you know,
[11:16] Speaker 2: I'm like cool, I can't even like have.
[11:18] Speaker 1: A friend here. Like I made a couple of I
[11:22] Speaker 1: made a couple of.
[11:22] Speaker 2: Friends that were like, they were like that was awesome.
[11:25] Speaker 2: May I was legendary, you know, like you we're all
[11:28] Speaker 2: talking about it. So I go to this My friend
[11:30] Speaker 2: was like, there's an open mic tent, right, let's go
[11:33] Speaker 2: check it out.
[11:34] Speaker 4: The next day at noon, we go there. I'm standing
[11:38] Speaker 4: like five feet from this guy. He was doing stand up.
[11:41] Speaker 4: He's like, did anyone see DJ Doug Pound? And I
[11:46] Speaker 4: was like, oh no, they weren't all they were just silent.
[11:48] Speaker 1: This guy.
[11:49] Speaker 4: This guy bombed, but his whole act here's my impression
[11:53] Speaker 4: of DJ Doug Pound. And then he like tried to
[11:56] Speaker 4: mimic like the drops I do and the DJ voice guy.
[12:00] Speaker 4: And I'm looking around, like, what the hell is going
[12:04] Speaker 4: on that twilight zone? Yeah, I'm like, hello, nobody even
[12:10] Speaker 4: knew I was standing there or something, and he's just
[12:12] Speaker 4: shitting on my set and he was just making fun
[12:15] Speaker 4: of how how hard I bombed, and I was like,
[12:18] Speaker 4: brutal the fuck?
[12:19] Speaker 1: And this is my friend who invited me, her friend,
[12:22] Speaker 1: this guy. Yeah.
[12:23] Speaker 4: Yeah, So that was just very surreal. I had to
[12:26] Speaker 4: just laugh it off. I almost was like mad. I
[12:29] Speaker 4: was gonna say, what the fuck I'm standing right here? Yeah,
[12:31] Speaker 4: But then I was like, now I'm gonna let this
[12:32] Speaker 4: guy roll because he's bombing.
[12:34] Speaker 2: He was actually bombed. People are like, what you're doing
[12:37] Speaker 2: an impression? The guy that bomb last night's Cosmic Justice.
[12:40] Speaker 2: That's your acting, that's cosmic justice.
[12:42] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[12:42] Speaker 4: So then I was just sort of like stuck at
[12:44] Speaker 4: this camp for a few days. That's brutal. That was
[12:47] Speaker 4: pretty brutal. Yeah, but back to what you were saying.
[12:49] Speaker 4: Another thing I do do. I still say yes is
[12:53] Speaker 4: open for a band. Don't do it unless it's weird.
[12:57] Speaker 4: Now yankovicher Tenacious D. I'm less it's a comedy band.
[13:01] Speaker 4: I'm opening for Tenacious D. So yes, that that made
[13:05] Speaker 4: you might work?
[13:05] Speaker 1: That might work.
[13:06] Speaker 2: Remember, I know it's still a Hamburger. Got like bottles
[13:11] Speaker 2: chucked out him opening up for Todah's Day.
[13:12] Speaker 4: Well, yeah, you got to check out his live album
[13:14] Speaker 4: Hot Tuesday Night. I think it's called He released a
[13:18] Speaker 4: live album of him bombing hardcore and the crowd is
[13:22] Speaker 4: just changing like he's the best.
[13:25] Speaker 1: He is fearless. He is fearless. That's like gonzo ship.
[13:30] Speaker 1: I love that didn't wait? Did uh? Didn't release?
[13:35] Speaker 2: Ah the height of his career, which is like so insane,
[13:40] Speaker 2: it's so weird and he's purposely bombing right in like
[13:43] Speaker 2: a little club. It doesn't make any sense. It's like abstract.
[13:48] Speaker 2: He's the greatest artist of us. We've over Van Go.
[13:55] Speaker 2: I told you about when I bombed opening up for
[13:57] Speaker 2: Chris Rock. He did, so I'll do I'll do the
[14:00] Speaker 2: quick just give me the cliff. No, I'll give you
[14:01] Speaker 2: the cliff does not that interesting story. I'm just like,
[14:04] Speaker 2: my audience is not his audience. Event diagram is slim. Really,
[14:08] Speaker 2: I mean, stand up you. It made me questions and
[14:16] Speaker 2: you're talking about you. We're talking about three eleven and
[14:19] Speaker 2: then yeah, exactly, it's like my references forget it. It's
[14:22] Speaker 2: like very I'm very generational. I guess gotcha.
[14:27] Speaker 1: So uh.
[14:28] Speaker 2: I always did like mediocre opening up for him, but
[14:31] Speaker 2: this night, I just like I was phoning it in
[14:34] Speaker 2: and I didn't realize it until halfway through. This guy
[14:36] Speaker 2: goes next and I go and I snapped, I should have.
[14:39] Speaker 1: Played cool or how to joke about it, but I was, now,
[14:42] Speaker 1: you come up to the stage and say that to
[14:44] Speaker 1: my face like it was a bar show. I was like,
[14:46] Speaker 1: come up on stage. I got out. It's like big
[14:49] Speaker 1: ass theater of four thousand people. He's like, I'm not
[14:51] Speaker 1: going up to the stage. I just fucking roast to you.
[14:53] Speaker 1: And then I'm like and I just crumble.
[14:55] Speaker 2: But what haunts me is like celebrities come to see
[14:59] Speaker 2: Chris Rock and especially in New Orleans and Atlanta where
[15:02] Speaker 2: all like the Marvel movies shoot and ship, like celebrities
[15:05] Speaker 2: are always the honest.
[15:06] Speaker 1: So my agent called me a few weeks later.
[15:07] Speaker 2: Anything, Hey, we just had Anti Mackie in the office.
[15:11] Speaker 1: He said you were the worst comedian he's ever seen this.
[15:14] Speaker 2: So I was just like, this delayed, like haunting, you
[15:17] Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like when your bombs so hard
[15:19] Speaker 2: to just move on, you can't move on just you.
[15:23] Speaker 2: It's like it's like when you try to fart in
[15:25] Speaker 2: the other room and then you like walk into the
[15:27] Speaker 2: next room and it like comes with you. You're like, God, no,
[15:29] Speaker 2: I parted it in that room.
[15:32] Speaker 1: I left so that the girl doesn't sell the farm.
[15:36] Speaker 1: But you can't with me. Yeah.
[15:39] Speaker 4: I did this podcast, like the first podcast ever did
[15:42] Speaker 4: like ten years ago or something with Neil Brennan, and.
[15:46] Speaker 2: You told me about this, but I love this story.
[15:48] Speaker 2: You were doing your podcast.
[15:50] Speaker 4: It was the pod first episode, No it was it
[15:52] Speaker 4: was my last episode.
[15:54] Speaker 1: No, so it ended on a fucking turn.
[15:58] Speaker 4: I kind of quit after this, but we did a
[16:00] Speaker 4: few more, but the show kept going. I was like
[16:02] Speaker 4: the sound effects guy. Now, I would have like a
[16:04] Speaker 4: laptop full of like a sample pads. Yeah, just like
[16:07] Speaker 4: a thousand drops. And I don't think Neil briefed Chris
[16:11] Speaker 4: Rock what I'm doing. He just thought I was some
[16:14] Speaker 4: engineer guy or something. So I sat on my laptop
[16:18] Speaker 4: and we start going and he mentions Eddie Murphy and
[16:20] Speaker 4: then I hit the Eddie Murphy lap.
[16:23] Speaker 1: And Chris Rock's like, what are you doing?
[16:25] Speaker 4: Man?
[16:25] Speaker 2: He's looking at me, l man. I'm like, uh, I
[16:27] Speaker 2: just I do. He's like it's not funny, and I'm
[16:30] Speaker 2: like what And.
[16:31] Speaker 4: I just kind of sat there, humiliated, like silently like what.
[16:35] Speaker 4: He was like pissed off that I did a sound effect.
[16:37] Speaker 4: He's like, I'm trying to talk and you're doing a
[16:39] Speaker 4: sound effect. I'm like, okay, well that's kind of what
[16:41] Speaker 4: the show is.
[16:42] Speaker 1: But yeah, that's the show.
[16:44] Speaker 4: So I just so I bombed in front of Christopher
[16:46] Speaker 4: oh No, and then uh yeah he didn't think that
[16:49] Speaker 4: was funny, I guess, but.
[16:51] Speaker 1: He didn't get it.
[16:51] Speaker 2: He should have been debriefed, and Neil and in Motion
[16:54] Speaker 2: didn't come to your rescue.
[16:55] Speaker 1: They just stayed silent. I think they did a little bit.
[16:58] Speaker 4: They were like, oh, he does the sounds, but it's
[17:00] Speaker 4: kind of like the damage was done that.
[17:04] Speaker 2: I did Anthony Jeselnex show with TJ Miller, you know,
[17:07] Speaker 2: years ago, and the second brodusher could be like, be crazy,
[17:10] Speaker 2: be crazy, man, I know you're crazy.
[17:12] Speaker 1: Be crazy at me, and I was like, what, all right?
[17:15] Speaker 1: His Comedy Central show. Yeah, so what's it called. It
[17:18] Speaker 1: was called offensive, So I'm like all right, and.
[17:22] Speaker 2: I'm like out uh Appso trying to I was like editing,
[17:26] Speaker 2: and I had a bunch of firecrackers that we weren't
[17:28] Speaker 2: allowed to use on the show because they were illegal
[17:32] Speaker 2: or something whatever or you had to get special perma
[17:34] Speaker 2: to use them or something.
[17:36] Speaker 1: So I was like I'll just like, I'll just light fireworks.
[17:38] Speaker 1: I don't light.
[17:39] Speaker 2: Fires under the TJ's seat while he's talking Keith Moon.
[17:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like yeah. I was like, they want
[17:46] Speaker 1: me to be crazy, I'll be crazy. So I threw
[17:49] Speaker 1: the fire.
[17:49] Speaker 2: So teachers that were like ten minutes into our segment
[17:53] Speaker 2: whatever and like TJ's talking teachers like I thought you
[17:56] Speaker 2: were lighting like a joint or something.
[17:57] Speaker 1: I just started lighting these black cats.
[18:00] Speaker 2: I chuck him under his seat and I just look
[18:02] Speaker 2: at Jeszelneck like I'm like, like, I didn't do it.
[18:04] Speaker 2: You know, It's like the crowd goes silent, the crew
[18:09] Speaker 2: goes silent, everybody's terrified.
[18:12] Speaker 1: The ad comes out like, oh, what the heck is
[18:14] Speaker 1: going on here? Like some old school dude like pulling
[18:18] Speaker 1: his hair out. And then uh, you said she said
[18:21] Speaker 1: to be crazy.
[18:22] Speaker 2: And then the fire marshal came and he's like I
[18:24] Speaker 2: have to arrest someone. And then I had to like apologize,
[18:28] Speaker 2: and then like my manager didn't.
[18:30] Speaker 1: My old manager didn't even take my side.
[18:32] Speaker 6: She was like, you got apologize.
[18:33] Speaker 2: I'm like I didn't. It was a federal offense. There
[18:36] Speaker 2: were a little like little kid firecrackers or whatever, the
[18:38] Speaker 2: little black cats. No, nobody's heard. Nothing's her like, gets fine.
[18:43] Speaker 2: You wanted me to be crazy? I was crazy, and
[18:45] Speaker 2: now I'm in trouble for it. Highest rated episode of
[18:48] Speaker 2: the series. There you go, highest rated episode series. Look
[18:51] Speaker 2: at that. See that kind of stuff is good radio.
[18:54] Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying with aericdre with are all right,
[19:09] Speaker 6: so you got three bombs? He only told us one.
[19:11] Speaker 6: Oh yeah, oh you told us too if you got
[19:13] Speaker 6: the podcast.
[19:14] Speaker 4: Uh. The first, the first ever major bomb was you
[19:17] Speaker 4: remember the upfronts for Adult Swims.
[19:19] Speaker 1: Yeah, they flew.
[19:22] Speaker 4: Us out, Tim and Eric and me and Tim and
[19:25] Speaker 4: Eric were gonna it's like this party, right.
[19:27] Speaker 2: Yeah, And so for people that don't know, people still
[19:30] Speaker 2: have yet they don't do it. Adult Swim doesn't do
[19:33] Speaker 2: it anymore, but COVID kind of shut it down for
[19:34] Speaker 2: a little bit. So you know, television is brought to
[19:38] Speaker 2: you by sponsors. Everything's paid for with advertising, so like
[19:42] Speaker 2: to to butter up the like corporations literally like the
[19:47] Speaker 2: guys from like Dorito's and Colgate and stuff like that.
[19:50] Speaker 1: Networks every network used to have.
[19:52] Speaker 2: I don't know if they're still having this party called
[19:54] Speaker 2: upfronts around like May where they would fly not only
[19:59] Speaker 2: the they would like Kanye performing. Yeah, they would drop
[20:02] Speaker 2: a lot of money. This was like the special it's
[20:05] Speaker 2: just for their ever just like a tiny party. These
[20:07] Speaker 2: are big. This is when they would splurge the majority
[20:10] Speaker 2: of their money because this is how they make their money.
[20:12] Speaker 2: They would like bring all the artists out from all
[20:14] Speaker 2: the TV shows to do like Q and A panels
[20:17] Speaker 2: and live events, and then they would like they would
[20:19] Speaker 2: pay like Kanye or jay Z somebody like a million
[20:22] Speaker 2: bucks to perform.
[20:23] Speaker 1: They were fun.
[20:23] Speaker 2: They were super like wild and crazy open bar performing.
[20:28] Speaker 1: It's great. Yeah.
[20:29] Speaker 2: I was never performing. It was just like a weekend
[20:31] Speaker 2: of debauchery.
[20:32] Speaker 1: They flew me out. People just want to drink and raide.
[20:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like they want to throw like a Coachella
[20:38] Speaker 2: for like the suits.
[20:39] Speaker 1: Yeah, so that the suits go. Man, that was so fun.
[20:43] Speaker 1: I had such a blast. Yes, Colgate wants to sponsor
[20:47] Speaker 1: the Brack Show or whatever, Harvey Birdman or.
[20:49] Speaker 4: You know exactly, so somebody had Colgate executives at an
[20:55] Speaker 4: open bar.
[20:56] Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah.
[20:58] Speaker 4: Anyway, this this was a long time, I want to say,
[21:00] Speaker 4: like two thousand and seven or eight or something, and
[21:04] Speaker 4: Tim and Eric were going to perform and I was
[21:07] Speaker 4: the first act and it was like six pm or whatever.
[21:12] Speaker 1: And as soon as I started, that's when like the
[21:14] Speaker 1: bar opened.
[21:15] Speaker 2: It was just like raging, like herds of people just
[21:19] Speaker 2: drinking and going to the bar and I'm trying to
[21:22] Speaker 2: like tell jokes and it's just like, you know, that
[21:25] Speaker 2: that sound of like I.
[21:28] Speaker 1: Like that just to crazy.
[21:29] Speaker 2: It was like just people talking full blast everywhere. Yeah,
[21:33] Speaker 2: and I'm just basically performing to nobody.
[21:36] Speaker 1: It was crazy.
[21:37] Speaker 4: I thought I was nuts, but you know what, I
[21:39] Speaker 4: wasn't performing to nobody because Seth Green actually was kind
[21:43] Speaker 4: of paying attention. He was standing there watching me like
[21:46] Speaker 4: trying to laugh along, and Chelsea Pretti because they both
[21:49] Speaker 4: get it, like they were like, I'm going to check
[21:53] Speaker 4: out this act. So it was cool of them to
[21:55] Speaker 4: at least have the yeah, you know, what do you
[21:59] Speaker 4: call it? Know, they were just being respectful of like
[22:01] Speaker 4: a performer. Yeah, but after a while, I was just
[22:04] Speaker 4: pressing a button of like a fart, just like like.
[22:09] Speaker 1: You know what I mean. It's like I felt like
[22:10] Speaker 1: a ghost, you know.
[22:12] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[22:13] Speaker 1: I was just like.
[22:15] Speaker 2: Yeah, like nobody sees me. I had like you know,
[22:19] Speaker 2: I was like going through the PIA system. Nobody gave
[22:22] Speaker 2: a ship. It was crazy.
[22:24] Speaker 4: You were like background, You're like Tim and Eric, you know,
[22:28] Speaker 4: they did this crazy thing where they were like singing
[22:30] Speaker 4: a song and you know, just disrupting the crowd and
[22:34] Speaker 4: like dancing through the crowd and stuff. So like my act,
[22:37] Speaker 4: which you had to kind of like listen to set
[22:39] Speaker 4: up joke set ups and stuff like.
[22:43] Speaker 2: That.
[22:43] Speaker 4: Was that was like quite a bomb, but it kind
[22:46] Speaker 4: of didn't really matter. But I still just you know
[22:49] Speaker 4: that feeling you get you're yeah no, it's just that
[22:51] Speaker 4: feeling of like also like it's not you. It's like
[22:54] Speaker 4: the situation.
[22:55] Speaker 1: It wasn't me.
[22:56] Speaker 2: It was just a situation. The situation like live comedy,
[22:58] Speaker 2: it's sensitive. You need like the atmosphere to be right.
[23:02] Speaker 2: What's the best you've ever done. Let's say, let's palette cleanse.
[23:08] Speaker 2: I told all my jokes, every duke worked the crowd.
[23:13] Speaker 2: The crowd erupted into a basket. Ope, all the pets
[23:17] Speaker 2: are good.
[23:20] Speaker 1: I fucked every single person in the audience.
[23:24] Speaker 4: Three years.
[23:26] Speaker 1: They're still hit me up. You're still remember your set
[23:30] Speaker 1: three years ago. Get a clue, girl, girl, I still
[23:36] Speaker 1: got to get your drawers. I'm still being paid. Laura
[23:40] Speaker 1: residualsiitials from.
[23:42] Speaker 4: One one like backyard set in like Echo Park, that
[23:48] Speaker 4: story set you did.
[23:49] Speaker 2: I did this show in Orange County Beach Goth Festival.
[23:54] Speaker 2: It was like a bunch of cool bands that like
[23:57] Speaker 2: you don't normally see on a festival lineup, and they
[23:58] Speaker 2: were like we just want you to host, And I
[24:00] Speaker 2: was like, great, whatever, and it was like it was
[24:03] Speaker 2: a good payday at the time. And I was by
[24:08] Speaker 2: where the artist trailers are, and I was trying to
[24:10] Speaker 2: go backstage, not like backstage area, but like physically behind
[24:14] Speaker 2: the stage to walk up on stage and start hosting.
[24:17] Speaker 2: And there's no stage manager anywhere, and nobody tells me
[24:19] Speaker 2: when to go on. There's no contact person. So I'm
[24:23] Speaker 2: like looking around and I'm texting my agent. I'm like,
[24:25] Speaker 2: do I go? Do you know when I start? Do
[24:27] Speaker 2: you know when my set should start? And he's like
[24:30] Speaker 2: and it was like a Saturday. He's like taking this
[24:31] Speaker 2: time to getting back to me. He's like, I don't know,
[24:33] Speaker 2: Like what does the stage manager say. I was like,
[24:34] Speaker 2: there's no stage manager, there's no person like corraling any
[24:37] Speaker 2: of the artists.
[24:38] Speaker 1: I know, I have no information.
[24:40] Speaker 2: So and then I'm trying to get backstage and the
[24:42] Speaker 2: security goes can't come back here, and I'm like, I'm hosting.
[24:45] Speaker 2: I'm I'm on the poster. I'm like I have all access.
[24:48] Speaker 2: I'm talking to my wristband.
[24:50] Speaker 1: I'm like, are you're not allowed back? Then?
[24:52] Speaker 2: He's not allowed back here. I don't care bro. I'm like,
[24:54] Speaker 2: what are you talking about. I'm one of the fucking festival,
[24:57] Speaker 2: Like I need to get up there to I did
[25:00] Speaker 2: get paid, He's like, tell somebody who cares.
[25:03] Speaker 6: I kind of.
[25:04] Speaker 1: I was like what, So, like, I.
[25:06] Speaker 2: Don't know what I'm supposed to go up, but the
[25:08] Speaker 2: money was so good I wanted like proof that I
[25:11] Speaker 2: was on stage so that I would get paid. So
[25:14] Speaker 2: I like, then I got another security guard who vouched
[25:16] Speaker 2: for me. Then I finally got on stage. Nobody brought
[25:19] Speaker 2: me up. It wasn't like ladies and gentlemen Eric andre.
[25:21] Speaker 2: I just walked up like like creeped up on.
[25:25] Speaker 1: Stage with no announcement.
[25:28] Speaker 2: So I go on stage and I start trying to
[25:31] Speaker 2: do my regular stand up and it's miserable.
[25:33] Speaker 1: I'm like, not, it's not going great.
[25:34] Speaker 2: Like the crowd is on my side, they're not torn
[25:36] Speaker 2: against me, but like they're not paying attention. It's like
[25:39] Speaker 2: hod as fuck, they're stone, they're drunk, like, so I
[25:42] Speaker 2: just start like doing crowd work and bringing people up
[25:45] Speaker 2: on stage.
[25:46] Speaker 1: It starts goofing.
[25:47] Speaker 2: Off and I did like ten minutes maybe I was
[25:50] Speaker 2: like you know, at fifteen minutes, I was like this
[25:53] Speaker 2: as much and like no one's giving me the light.
[25:57] Speaker 2: There's no structure, and I don't even know what band
[26:00] Speaker 2: to bring on next. They're not like the bands already
[26:03] Speaker 2: even there. So I was like all right later, and
[26:05] Speaker 2: I just like I think I took a picture of
[26:07] Speaker 2: myself on stage and send it to my agent, like
[26:09] Speaker 2: proof I.
[26:09] Speaker 1: Was on stage if anybody else, because this is a
[26:12] Speaker 1: shit show.
[26:13] Speaker 2: Then there was some like crazy issue. I think people
[26:18] Speaker 2: that bought tickets couldn't get in. And then the porta
[26:21] Speaker 2: potty started overflowing, and like there was like rain and
[26:25] Speaker 2: like mud slides. There was some like people are like
[26:27] Speaker 2: vendors were running out of food. It was like a
[26:29] Speaker 2: miniature Woodstock ninety nine like where like it's like Firefest.
[26:32] Speaker 2: The infrastructure, Yeah, the infrastructure of the festival started breaking
[26:35] Speaker 2: down as the festival continued, and I didn't realize.
[26:38] Speaker 1: I just started partying backstage. Somebody gave me molly.
[26:40] Speaker 2: I was like rolling backstage and like listen, like just
[26:43] Speaker 2: like hanging with friends and stuff like that. And then
[26:45] Speaker 2: the sunset and then I'm like, I'm like I'll pop
[26:48] Speaker 2: around the festival. So I popped around the festival and
[26:50] Speaker 2: then I try to go backstage again, I have an
[26:53] Speaker 2: all access wristband and I'm like out with the crowd,
[26:58] Speaker 2: rolling on ecstasy and I I didn't go backstage and
[27:01] Speaker 2: another security different security guards like, ain't coming back here, bro,
[27:04] Speaker 2: I'm like.
[27:05] Speaker 1: What what does the all access mean?
[27:07] Speaker 3: Like?
[27:07] Speaker 1: Who is it for? I performed? I was on that
[27:09] Speaker 1: seed It's fine. Alle I was like, I.
[27:12] Speaker 2: Was on that stage, I'm on the festival poster, I'm
[27:15] Speaker 2: on the fire that's my name.
[27:17] Speaker 1: And I was like, don ok. And I was like,
[27:19] Speaker 1: what the fuck is wrong? And I'm like snapping and
[27:21] Speaker 1: I'm rolling, which is crazy. I'm like, what the.
[27:23] Speaker 2: Fuck is wrong with this festival? What the fuck is
[27:25] Speaker 2: wrong with security? And then the security is like, oh,
[27:28] Speaker 2: you think you're funny? Huh you think you're funny? And
[27:30] Speaker 2: I go, yes, I do, and he goes, well, well
[27:34] Speaker 2: guess what you're not. And I go, well, guess what
[27:36] Speaker 2: comedy subjective? And I can tell you to know what
[27:39] Speaker 2: subjection meant. So he was just like, all right, you
[27:42] Speaker 2: can go in, Doug, thank you so much for coming
[27:49] Speaker 2: on my pleasure experiment.
[27:53] Speaker 1: And see it the stress Factory. I'll see it this stuff.
