[0:21] Speaker 2: conversation with Benny last year about bombing in the music industry.
[0:23] Speaker 1: Love you lots, bombing, bombing with Eric Andre.
[0:34] Speaker 2: So that is your biggest bomb or some bombing stories.
[0:38] Speaker 3: I have so many?
[0:39] Speaker 2: Yeah, I know you get You're like auto pilot.
[0:42] Speaker 4: Okay, okay, let it roop, Okay, okay, a few one
[0:44] Speaker 4: of them. It's like I'm like eighteen years old. We're
[0:47] Speaker 4: like on I'm we're like performing for the first time.
[0:50] Speaker 4: I'm like getting like free drink. I'm getting blacked out
[0:53] Speaker 4: every time because I never had like I've only had
[0:56] Speaker 4: like like you drink like out of someone's like your
[0:59] Speaker 4: pan Karan's like liquor cabin. It has like a quarter
[1:03] Speaker 4: of a bottle of Triple Sex from like six years ago.
[1:06] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like disgusting.
[1:07] Speaker 4: You have like you guys Split One Mad Dog, except
[1:11] Speaker 4: with like eight people special.
[1:14] Speaker 3: It's disgusting, disgusting.
[1:17] Speaker 4: So like finally I'm like getting alcohol. I'm playing with
[1:21] Speaker 4: spank Rock Amanda Blank, I'm at this like fader thing
[1:25] Speaker 4: and it's like this is so yeah.
[1:28] Speaker 3: We're like the kid.
[1:28] Speaker 2: Did you ever go to college?
[1:30] Speaker 5: No?
[1:30] Speaker 2: Not a day? No No.
[1:32] Speaker 4: I went to an audio engineering school for like four
[1:34] Speaker 4: months but dropped out. And I'm the only one of
[1:38] Speaker 4: my everyone to college except me and the family.
[1:41] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:41] Speaker 3: So I'm like, so.
[1:43] Speaker 4: I remember, I'm I'm at the show and I'm getting
[1:46] Speaker 4: like fully blacked out, like like like so drunk, and
[1:50] Speaker 4: I remember I start daching and I was like I
[1:52] Speaker 4: didn't have like I didn't have money like that, so
[1:54] Speaker 4: I literally would bring I didn't have a laptop, so
[1:57] Speaker 4: I bring an iMac to the club, like.
[2:02] Speaker 3: A big purple plastic like a huge GiMA to the club,
[2:06] Speaker 3: and I would like and I was so bad.
[2:08] Speaker 4: Yeah, it was crazy, And I was so bad at
[2:11] Speaker 4: DJAN And basically I'm with one of my friends and
[2:13] Speaker 4: we're like so hyped and we're like dancing and stuff
[2:15] Speaker 4: and basically like I accidentally turned the bpm so like
[2:19] Speaker 4: for people who don't know what that is, like, I
[2:21] Speaker 4: made the song incredibly fast, like like one hundred bpm sward.
[2:26] Speaker 4: So it was like so before it was like and
[2:29] Speaker 4: then was like and I was like and and I
[2:32] Speaker 4: couldn't stop it because my friend spilled a drink all
[2:35] Speaker 4: over the keyboard, the laptop or the fucking computer, whatever
[2:38] Speaker 4: the fuck it is. The So so I'm sitting there
[2:43] Speaker 4: and it's so fast and like name spank rock here
[2:46] Speaker 4: is like thinging and they all just went along with
[2:49] Speaker 4: it so like and they like did it and nobody
[2:53] Speaker 4: even noticed, and they were so mad.
[2:56] Speaker 3: You were rapping and Amanda was a game. And then
[3:00] Speaker 3: and they were wrapping.
[3:01] Speaker 4: And it was like it was during my DJ said,
[3:03] Speaker 4: they like came out and like did a special thing.
[3:06] Speaker 4: Basically that night, I get so wasted. I get so
[3:09] Speaker 4: unbelievably wasted that they kicked me out. Okay, Home, Sweet Home.
[3:16] Speaker 4: It's called in New York.
[3:18] Speaker 3: You know it's like near Christy Street. Yeah, you have
[3:21] Speaker 3: to like go down yeah.
[3:22] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah yeah I remember that spot.
[3:24] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[3:24] Speaker 4: So we're I'm actually confusing two nights this is one
[3:28] Speaker 4: one of whatever who.
[3:29] Speaker 3: Gives nobody it's the same.
[3:36] Speaker 2: Years ago.
[3:38] Speaker 3: It also could be the same night for this story.
[3:42] Speaker 3: It'll be the same night.
[3:43] Speaker 4: And I remember I I they they actually, you know
[3:46] Speaker 4: when someone's like, oh, they threw me out of the bar,
[3:48] Speaker 4: They actually picked me up. That I was so belligerent
[3:52] Speaker 4: while I was ejing that two men picked me up
[3:54] Speaker 4: and they threw me into guard And I remember at
[3:58] Speaker 4: the time, I was getting paid three hundred dollars, okay,
[4:01] Speaker 4: and it's like the most embarrassing thing. They throw me
[4:04] Speaker 4: in the garbage and then the guy takes out not
[4:07] Speaker 4: even like three like nights, he crumpled three hundred dollar
[4:11] Speaker 4: bills and throws them. So they throw them at me
[4:14] Speaker 4: on the ground. I'm black, Did you dude to deserve that?
[4:18] Speaker 4: I was probably being an idiot.
[4:19] Speaker 2: In what sense?
[4:22] Speaker 4: It was probably just so drunk, like spilling stuff, like
[4:25] Speaker 4: being an idiot. So I'm out there and I remember
[4:28] Speaker 4: like standing up and like looking at my friends and
[4:30] Speaker 4: they were out there and I.
[4:31] Speaker 3: Was like, I hate you.
[4:32] Speaker 4: I was like, fuck you, And I like looked at
[4:35] Speaker 4: my I was like I hate you, like and I
[4:37] Speaker 4: was just like I was just like I gone off
[4:40] Speaker 4: the rails. I went fully, fully off.
[4:43] Speaker 3: The rails, eighteen year old Penny.
[4:47] Speaker 2: That was like the throw your friends your only out.
[4:53] Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's what you do when you're eighteen.
[4:55] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[4:57] Speaker 3: Oh my god, I have so.
[4:58] Speaker 2: Many Okay, tell me some more bombing stories.
[5:00] Speaker 3: So okay, so first, this is like the opposite of
[5:03] Speaker 3: a bomb.
[5:03] Speaker 2: Okay.
[5:04] Speaker 4: I'm playing poker one night and like, my friend's mom
[5:08] Speaker 4: puts me on her Instagram.
[5:09] Speaker 2: Okay.
[5:10] Speaker 4: Then she calls me the next day and she's like, yo,
[5:14] Speaker 4: my son's best friend. You're his biggest influence in the world.
[5:19] Speaker 2: You have to.
[5:20] Speaker 4: Let him come like intern for you. I was like,
[5:23] Speaker 4: I don't need another intern, and they were.
[5:25] Speaker 5: Like please, and I was like all right, fine.
[5:27] Speaker 4: So like I meet this kid, this kid's fifteen years old,
[5:31] Speaker 4: and he's like, I got a intern for you, and
[5:33] Speaker 4: I'm like all right. Like he was just like a
[5:35] Speaker 4: sweet kid, and I was like intern for me, and
[5:37] Speaker 4: I was like, all right, I'm in New York and
[5:40] Speaker 4: I was like, but I'm building a studio in LA.
[5:43] Speaker 4: You got to just build the studio and I'll be
[5:45] Speaker 4: out in like a few months. And then he was
[5:48] Speaker 4: like he was like all right, so did.
[5:50] Speaker 2: You give up a budget.
[5:51] Speaker 3: Yeah, we did the whole thing.
[5:52] Speaker 2: Oh okay, build your own mind chop.
[5:58] Speaker 4: So basically his kid starts working for me and then
[6:02] Speaker 4: like he eventually like is about to graduate high school
[6:06] Speaker 4: and like he's in like his last semester and I'm like, yo,
[6:08] Speaker 4: I'm going on the road with Ed Sheeran. Do you
[6:10] Speaker 4: want to come and like learn? And he's like yes,
[6:13] Speaker 4: And then like eventually I'm like he's in college and
[6:15] Speaker 4: I'm like, yo, we're going on tour with this person.
[6:18] Speaker 4: Do you want to come, like like see how it's
[6:20] Speaker 4: all done?
[6:20] Speaker 3: Blah blah blah.
[6:21] Speaker 4: And he's like working his way up, never even tells
[6:23] Speaker 4: me he makes music, and then one day he like
[6:26] Speaker 4: sits me down and he's just like dude. When he's
[6:29] Speaker 4: like nineteen, he's like, dude. My therapist said, if I
[6:33] Speaker 4: don't play you my music, then like I just like
[6:37] Speaker 4: he won't work with me anymore.
[6:39] Speaker 3: And I was like, yeah, of course man me, no, no, no, no,
[6:44] Speaker 3: he played me his music.
[6:46] Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm like, yeah, no, he plays me as music
[6:49] Speaker 4: and it's bad. Yeah okay, but like I see something
[6:53] Speaker 4: in the kid somehow. Fast forward like a year or two,
[6:55] Speaker 4: I sign him and then he's the actual biggest producer
[7:00] Speaker 4: in the world right now. He literally just one Song
[7:03] Speaker 4: of the Year at the Grammy's. He's like the biggest
[7:04] Speaker 4: producer in the world. And he's he've been working with
[7:07] Speaker 4: me since Blake.
[7:08] Speaker 3: Yeah, Blake. Now, okay, you want to hear a funny
[7:10] Speaker 3: Blake story.
[7:10] Speaker 2: That's a bomb.
[7:11] Speaker 3: Okay, great, this is a bomb of a story.
[7:13] Speaker 2: Wait, so you met Blake because your friend's mom was
[7:16] Speaker 2: just like, hey, I got to put you on my Instagram.
[7:18] Speaker 3: And she just put me on Instagram in a poker
[7:20] Speaker 3: game and he was like, who the fuck is it?
[7:21] Speaker 2: How do you know?
[7:22] Speaker 4: Benny, Like he had no idea and that it was
[7:24] Speaker 4: just like a random thing. Whoa, Yeah, it was so random.
[7:28] Speaker 4: So okay, So okay, Blake. It's his first day. I'm like,
[7:32] Speaker 4: finally in La. He's been working for me for like
[7:34] Speaker 4: eight months, hasn't done anything. He's like cleaning toilets. Everything,
[7:37] Speaker 4: his life sucks.
[7:39] Speaker 2: Okay.
[7:39] Speaker 4: He finally walks in I'm in LA and I'm like, yo,
[7:44] Speaker 4: we're going to a studio. Okay, We're gonna work with
[7:47] Speaker 4: the weekend. And he was just like holy shit, He's
[7:51] Speaker 4: like what the fuck. He's like this is what I've
[7:52] Speaker 4: been waiting for. He's losing his mind. So the Weekend
[7:56] Speaker 4: comes in and I'm like, Blake, like just be cool,
[7:59] Speaker 4: and he's like, okay, cool. We're in the session. Literally
[8:02] Speaker 4: fifteen minutes into the session. We're in a room like
[8:05] Speaker 4: this small, and we're like me in the Weekend, are
[8:07] Speaker 4: like going back and forth and we're like singing stuff,
[8:09] Speaker 4: we're playing beats, and all of a sudden, he takes
[8:12] Speaker 4: his phone out to try to take like a sneak
[8:14] Speaker 4: no and it goes like it goes and it flashes,
[8:18] Speaker 4: and he literally Blake doesn't know what to do, so
[8:21] Speaker 4: he goes like this, He goes and he throws his
[8:24] Speaker 4: phone and just like leaves the room and just like
[8:27] Speaker 4: doesn't know what to do. Like the weekend doesn't notice,
[8:31] Speaker 4: and it's like all good, but he was so embarrassed
[8:34] Speaker 4: he left the room and did not come back for
[8:35] Speaker 4: the rest of the session.
[8:36] Speaker 5: But Blake bomb with Aericdre. With Aericdre, who's the worst,
[8:54] Speaker 5: Who's the one?
[8:55] Speaker 4: Basically it's like the first time I work with Diddy,
[8:57] Speaker 4: and I'm like so excited.
[9:00] Speaker 3: I'm like, oh my god, this guy's like my hero.
[9:01] Speaker 3: Like it's like he's a full legend, and I get there.
[9:04] Speaker 3: He lives up to everything.
[9:05] Speaker 4: He's like in the thing he's getting like his haircut,
[9:07] Speaker 4: he's directing a music video. He's like someone's like doing
[9:10] Speaker 4: stuff with his toes, Like it's like all that stuff
[9:12] Speaker 4: for Instagram and stuff is so real.
[9:14] Speaker 3: He's like he was like he was like it was crazy.
[9:16] Speaker 4: There was like somebody he had like a bottle of
[9:18] Speaker 4: champagne that he was like deciding whether it was gonna
[9:20] Speaker 4: be like the new logo, like so many things are
[9:23] Speaker 4: happening at once, and then he's like I get in
[9:25] Speaker 4: there and he's like you always like you know, I
[9:27] Speaker 4: just got back from fucking Paris, Like I'm in France,
[9:30] Speaker 4: I'm in all these different places, like I want to
[9:32] Speaker 4: make that like fucking like disco shit, like the record's
[9:35] Speaker 4: spinning and there's fucking cocaine and when it comes to
[9:37] Speaker 4: your turn, you just got to snort it right up.
[9:39] Speaker 4: He's like, I want to make that good shit. And
[9:40] Speaker 4: I was like, oh okay, so like uh, like what
[9:43] Speaker 4: do you think like something like more like daft punk
[9:45] Speaker 4: or like craft work, And he's like looked at me.
[9:48] Speaker 4: He was like they shut the fuck up and I
[9:50] Speaker 4: was like, and he's like, stop trying to confuse me.
[9:52] Speaker 4: And I was like, oh, I was like okay. I
[9:55] Speaker 4: was like I'm sorry, and then like and then there
[9:58] Speaker 4: was like two people. I remember there was these There
[10:00] Speaker 4: was like his assistant and then someone else's assistant and
[10:03] Speaker 4: they were like and he was like, I bet you
[10:05] Speaker 4: my assistants faster than yours to like the other person.
[10:07] Speaker 4: And then they were like he was there was like
[10:10] Speaker 4: and you like yeah, and they were like both yelling
[10:11] Speaker 4: for their assistant and like didesus isn't actually came like
[10:15] Speaker 4: later and he was like you're fired.
[10:17] Speaker 1: Just like.
[10:21] Speaker 3: One time.
[10:22] Speaker 4: I was like, Kanye used to have this like warehouse. Okay,
[10:25] Speaker 4: it's like insane warehouse. And we like after church, his
[10:30] Speaker 4: like uh Sunday services, which actually were like incredible. They
[10:34] Speaker 4: were so sick, Like did you ever go to one? No,
[10:36] Speaker 4: they were they were amazing.
[10:37] Speaker 2: They were like allergic to religion.
[10:40] Speaker 3: No, it wasn't religion. It was just like sick.
[10:42] Speaker 4: You're watching like a Kanye show and it's like and
[10:44] Speaker 4: everything he did was like so amazing, Like he was
[10:46] Speaker 4: my hero growing up. So like we're like at one
[10:50] Speaker 4: of his things. I hope we don't lift this. This
[10:53] Speaker 4: one's so good.
[10:54] Speaker 2: We were we were.
[10:56] Speaker 4: We went back to like his like facility. He had
[10:58] Speaker 4: like a factory, and like you walked in and like
[11:01] Speaker 4: we were like with one of my friends and we were.
[11:05] Speaker 3: This story's crazy. We were.
[11:08] Speaker 4: We're like, okay, So we walk into Kanye's factory and
[11:11] Speaker 4: we're like walking around and we walk into my friends
[11:14] Speaker 4: like little studio and we're just like waiting for Kanye
[11:17] Speaker 4: to show up.
[11:18] Speaker 3: And I like I walk.
[11:20] Speaker 4: Into one room and and it's like all of his
[11:23] Speaker 4: like easy stuff and all the samples, and it all
[11:25] Speaker 4: like looks so cool.
[11:26] Speaker 3: It's all like set up in the coolest way.
[11:28] Speaker 4: There's like mood boards everywhere, and I'm like this is amazing,
[11:30] Speaker 4: and I'm like touching all the fabrics. And then like
[11:33] Speaker 4: I walk into another room and it's like the coolest
[11:36] Speaker 4: room you've ever seen with just like with just like
[11:39] Speaker 4: shoes and like men in like lab coats like making
[11:42] Speaker 4: shoes and that are like seventy and I'm like yeah,
[11:46] Speaker 4: I'm like, I'm like holy shit. And then I go
[11:48] Speaker 4: into another room and there's like one of those like
[11:50] Speaker 4: big dry erase boards. And this was a while ago,
[11:52] Speaker 4: and it says like.
[11:53] Speaker 3: How to make Kanye West a billionaire?
[11:56] Speaker 4: And it was and it was like had like allays,
[11:58] Speaker 4: like a count information, like everything on a thing, and
[12:01] Speaker 4: I was like, we're definitely not supposed to be in here.
[12:03] Speaker 4: And they have like like all these different ways to
[12:05] Speaker 4: make him like a billionaire and I was like, oh shit.
[12:07] Speaker 4: So then we like walk out and we walk into
[12:09] Speaker 4: this other room and it's him and he's having like
[12:13] Speaker 4: a full meeting with like people, and he has a
[12:15] Speaker 4: screen that's bigger than this room.
[12:17] Speaker 3: It's like this wrap around screen.
[12:19] Speaker 4: It's like twenty feet tall with like and it has
[12:21] Speaker 4: like a computer on it and they're like looking at
[12:24] Speaker 4: it like a website. And it has this thing where
[12:26] Speaker 4: you like press the clothes and like drag them and
[12:28] Speaker 4: then it's like a woman like in the clothes and
[12:30] Speaker 4: she's moving around and then like a man. And I'm
[12:32] Speaker 4: there with my girlfriend at the time, and I remember
[12:36] Speaker 4: I remember like yeah's in there, and we're like it's
[12:38] Speaker 4: like a few of us, and we're like, oh, I'm sorry,
[12:40] Speaker 4: we didn't we didn't mean to come in here. And
[12:41] Speaker 4: he's like, no, no, come in and we're like okay.
[12:43] Speaker 4: He's like and he's like my girl at the time.
[12:45] Speaker 4: He's like, he's like, what do you think about these clothes?
[12:47] Speaker 4: And she's like, uh, She's like they're they're amazing, They're
[12:50] Speaker 4: so cool. And he's like, go press the button, go
[12:52] Speaker 4: like try it on, like it like like you can
[12:54] Speaker 4: press a button and we'll make it all try on
[12:56] Speaker 4: and she was like okay, oh sick.
[12:58] Speaker 3: So she like goes up the.
[13:00] Speaker 4: Screen is like three thirty foot screens, like it's insane,
[13:06] Speaker 4: and she like goes to like click one and you
[13:08] Speaker 4: know how like if you like swipe a mouse like
[13:11] Speaker 4: down to the bottom of the screen, like it like.
[13:13] Speaker 3: Puts the computer in sleep mode. It literally just goes
[13:15] Speaker 3: like this goes and like we're.
[13:18] Speaker 4: In a room full of darkness like with all these
[13:22] Speaker 4: people and we're like and she's like losing her mind.
[13:24] Speaker 3: And then like someone's like, hey, do you know the password?
[13:28] Speaker 4: And like uh, Cone is like, oh, let me try
[13:31] Speaker 4: and do like types and it's like it's like doesn't work.
[13:33] Speaker 4: And then he like tries another one it's like and
[13:36] Speaker 4: it just like doesn't work. And then like finally like
[13:38] Speaker 4: one of my friends just writes like password in it.
[13:40] Speaker 1: It's like.
[13:43] Speaker 2: Everything shines back up and hacked all don't know, and.
[13:46] Speaker 4: It was like and then he like he goes like
[13:48] Speaker 4: this she like she like is still standing by the thing,
[13:50] Speaker 4: and he's.
[13:51] Speaker 3: Like maybe maybe I'll do the next one. And then
[13:53] Speaker 3: it's just like she's like a full like walk.
[13:56] Speaker 2: That's like a moment.
[13:58] Speaker 3: It's like a bomb that that's a bomb. That's a bomb.
[14:02] Speaker 1: You know.
[14:02] Speaker 4: My favorite is when when whenever, like you're with someone
[14:06] Speaker 4: and like like one time I was, I was with
[14:08] Speaker 4: my friend and we were like outside of a party
[14:11] Speaker 4: and we couldn't get into this party, and like do
[14:13] Speaker 4: you know how you have some of those friends that
[14:15] Speaker 4: are just like they're shameless, they'll do anything like and
[14:19] Speaker 4: we were like outside of this party, we weren't getting in.
[14:21] Speaker 4: This was like ten years ago.
[14:23] Speaker 3: We're probably not gonna be able to use his name,
[14:25] Speaker 3: but we can use this story.
[14:26] Speaker 4: So he's like we're like outside of this like New
[14:28] Speaker 4: Year's party, and we're like there's no way we're getting
[14:30] Speaker 4: it in. It's like watch them, like Brad Pitt walk in,
[14:33] Speaker 4: like everyone's walking in, and then we have another good
[14:35] Speaker 4: story a bomb. So we're watching like Brad Pitt walk
[14:39] Speaker 4: in and then he literally sees Andy Garcia walking by
[14:45] Speaker 4: the actor the big actor.
[14:46] Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
[14:47] Speaker 4: So we see like Andy Garcia like, oh, he's like,
[14:51] Speaker 4: I'm good friends.
[14:52] Speaker 3: He goes I'm friends with him, and.
[14:53] Speaker 4: I go with your friends with Andy Garcia and he
[14:55] Speaker 4: goes yeah, and he goes up to him and he
[14:57] Speaker 4: goes hey, Andy, and Andy goes like this.
[14:59] Speaker 3: He's like, he's like remember me.
[15:01] Speaker 4: And then he's like, I said, first of all, if
[15:03] Speaker 4: you have to start a sentence, you're not friends with that.
[15:07] Speaker 4: And then like and then like he literally goes like
[15:10] Speaker 4: it's like right in front of the bouncer and he's like,
[15:12] Speaker 4: remember we had like dinner like two weeks ago. And
[15:15] Speaker 4: then he's like you remember like I was with like
[15:16] Speaker 4: I was with no one Gary. And then he was
[15:19] Speaker 4: like yeah, and then he was like could you help
[15:22] Speaker 4: us get in? And he's like he's like he's like
[15:24] Speaker 4: a many Garcia, what am I gonna do? You think
[15:26] Speaker 4: I'm gonna get you in? I'll be able to get
[15:27] Speaker 4: you in.
[15:28] Speaker 3: And then he's like he's like, come on, just try
[15:30] Speaker 3: and then like he just goes to the bouncer. He's like,
[15:32] Speaker 3: you let these guys in. And then guy's.
[15:34] Speaker 4: Like but so it wasn't a bomb.
[15:38] Speaker 3: But it was such a bomb.
[15:40] Speaker 2: Yeah, it was such a bah.
[15:43] Speaker 3: Just much more satisfy.
[15:48] Speaker 1: With Aridre.
[15:58] Speaker 2: With Aridre, have you ever been beat up before? You've
[16:01] Speaker 2: ever been in a fight or you have been.
[16:02] Speaker 3: In so many?
[16:03] Speaker 1: Really?
[16:04] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[16:05] Speaker 3: When that's not a bomb?
[16:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like about failure. It's not about bombing. It's
[16:09] Speaker 2: just about fucking the trials and tribulation of life.
[16:12] Speaker 4: What's what's a when you think of like the biggest failure,
[16:15] Speaker 4: you try to black those out.
[16:17] Speaker 2: Yeah, but it makes you likable, it makes you endearing.
[16:19] Speaker 3: I'm trying.
[16:19] Speaker 2: I'm trying, it makes you relatable.
[16:21] Speaker 3: I'm trying to think.
[16:21] Speaker 2: About like when did you get beat up?
[16:23] Speaker 1: Oh?
[16:23] Speaker 5: My god?
[16:24] Speaker 3: So many?
[16:24] Speaker 5: Why?
[16:25] Speaker 2: What what are you talking when? Where?
[16:27] Speaker 4: What do you I used to go to freestyle battles.
[16:29] Speaker 4: I would just like win and then they just beat.
[16:31] Speaker 2: Me up, like I really like a guy like name one,
[16:35] Speaker 2: like a guy punched you in the face.
[16:37] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[16:37] Speaker 4: I used to get beat up all the time. That's
[16:39] Speaker 4: not even a good bomb. Let me think, is I'm good?
[16:42] Speaker 3: That's great? What are you talking about? You're sitting on gold.
[16:45] Speaker 2: You go to freestyle wrap battles and win, You're great
[16:48] Speaker 2: at freestyle rapping.
[16:50] Speaker 3: I mean I was. I don't think I'm great anymore.
[16:52] Speaker 2: Really, what would you rap about?
[16:54] Speaker 3: I don't I don't know. That was like thirteen, there
[16:57] Speaker 3: was thirty, it was twenty something years ago.
[16:59] Speaker 2: And then guys would beat you up when you won.
[17:02] Speaker 2: So you would go to a rap competition and be
[17:04] Speaker 2: like rap out a rap, rap rap, and then.
[17:08] Speaker 4: Just just jump me when I left.
[17:13] Speaker 3: I don't know the guy's name.
[17:15] Speaker 2: Why why you couldn't care less? Like because this is
[17:18] Speaker 2: like grocery food shopping.
[17:19] Speaker 3: This isn't good. This isn't good. This is a bad bomb.
[17:22] Speaker 1: This is you.
[17:24] Speaker 3: No, no, I want like a good failure.
[17:26] Speaker 2: Let me think of like this is this thing?
[17:28] Speaker 4: No no, no, like like a like a big one,
[17:30] Speaker 4: like a a better story. Yeah, let me let me
[17:32] Speaker 4: think of a big one. Okay, this is how I
[17:34] Speaker 4: got into that. This is like my first thing to
[17:36] Speaker 4: get really into the music business. And it's like a
[17:39] Speaker 4: bomb for like six months.
[17:41] Speaker 2: Okay.
[17:42] Speaker 4: I used to do this thing where I would go
[17:43] Speaker 4: on my Space and I would direct message every single
[17:47] Speaker 4: person in the world like I could know and like
[17:50] Speaker 4: just like be relentless. And there was this guy. He
[17:52] Speaker 4: was one of my favorite producers. His name was Disco
[17:56] Speaker 4: d Okay, and I messed, what.
[18:00] Speaker 2: Is he famous for?
[18:01] Speaker 4: He did, like he created a type of music called
[18:03] Speaker 4: ghetto tech. It's like Detroit yeah, so he's one of
[18:07] Speaker 4: the yeah yeah yeah, those are all him so so
[18:11] Speaker 4: basically it's so crazy. So like he just had like
[18:14] Speaker 4: a whole ghetto tech. So he was like one of
[18:16] Speaker 4: the creators of ghetto tech. And then he also produced
[18:18] Speaker 4: like amazing like some of my favorite like fifty cent songs.
[18:21] Speaker 4: Like he was like he was the first person I
[18:23] Speaker 4: ever met. He was the first parton. He introduced me
[18:25] Speaker 4: to spank Rock. He was working with spank Crock. He
[18:27] Speaker 4: was working with most deaf he was working with working with.
[18:30] Speaker 2: He didn't invented ghetto he was.
[18:32] Speaker 3: One of one of the guys.
[18:33] Speaker 2: There's like one of the Yeah.
[18:36] Speaker 4: So basically I used to d M him every day
[18:39] Speaker 4: and he would never answer. And then I saw that
[18:41] Speaker 4: he had a studio time available, and I said, how
[18:47] Speaker 4: did you figure that out? I just saw he had
[18:49] Speaker 4: an ad on on his MySpace for studio time and
[18:53] Speaker 4: I was like, hey, I want to book out the
[18:56] Speaker 4: studio for a day, and he was like, for sure,
[18:59] Speaker 4: come up here. So I came up, and when I
[19:03] Speaker 4: got to New York, I was living in Virginia at
[19:06] Speaker 4: the time I drove up. When I got to New York,
[19:09] Speaker 4: I didn't drive. Me and my friends, which dude, we
[19:11] Speaker 4: would do the craziest things. I didn't have anywhere to stay,
[19:14] Speaker 4: so we would go. I would go up for meetings.
[19:17] Speaker 4: These are yeah, this is the bomb shit. I would
[19:19] Speaker 4: go up for meetings every single weekend. And I would
[19:22] Speaker 4: go on a Friday, and I would skip some of
[19:24] Speaker 4: school so I could get there in time for like
[19:26] Speaker 4: the last meeting. And after that, we didn't have anywhere
[19:30] Speaker 4: to stay. We didn't have any money, So me and
[19:31] Speaker 4: all my friends we would sleep in the McDonald's in
[19:35] Speaker 4: Times Square and we would take turns sleeping, and like
[19:38] Speaker 4: one person would stay awake and then one person would sleep. Yeah,
[19:40] Speaker 4: and we used to just like we to dude, we
[19:43] Speaker 4: used to sleep. We used to sleep in Hoboken Station
[19:47] Speaker 4: because like the cops wouldn't come there, and like we
[19:49] Speaker 4: would all we'd sleep in a car and like one
[19:52] Speaker 4: person would stay awake and we would do all the
[19:54] Speaker 4: ship and it was me and like a few of
[19:55] Speaker 4: my friends, and sometimes like you'd go, I'd go like
[19:59] Speaker 4: all the way there and and like the meeting, they'd
[20:01] Speaker 4: be like, ah, sorry, can't make it like and I'd
[20:04] Speaker 4: be like, fuck, I drove all the way here.
[20:06] Speaker 3: So we'd have to like try to figure out something
[20:08] Speaker 3: we could do.
[20:08] Speaker 4: But basically one of the times, I like go in
[20:11] Speaker 4: with Disco Deep and I get there and I'm like, dude,
[20:15] Speaker 4: I don't want studio time.
[20:16] Speaker 3: I had to get through to you.
[20:18] Speaker 4: I really think I could be like the best producer
[20:21] Speaker 4: in the world. I think like you could help me,
[20:23] Speaker 4: I think. And he was so angry. He was like,
[20:26] Speaker 4: you're wasting my fucking time. And I was like, dude, please,
[20:28] Speaker 4: I'll do anything. And he said okay. He said, I
[20:31] Speaker 4: literally am leaving tomorrow. I'm gone for two days. If
[20:36] Speaker 4: you can book my studio for the two days you
[20:39] Speaker 4: have a job, you can be my intern. And I said, yeah,
[20:42] Speaker 4: of course I can book the studio. It was like no, dude,
[20:45] Speaker 4: it was like six hundred dollars a day, so I
[20:48] Speaker 4: and we didn't have money. I called every person I
[20:51] Speaker 4: know and I was like, please, I'll pay you back.
[20:54] Speaker 4: I'll do anything, like and I had. I got it
[20:57] Speaker 4: booked somehow. I booked the studio the whole time, and
[21:00] Speaker 4: I put in, I put in there was like a
[21:01] Speaker 4: few extra hours, and I put in two hundred of
[21:03] Speaker 4: my own dollars and I had no money. Yeah, like
[21:05] Speaker 4: and he was like, all right, you did it. He
[21:08] Speaker 4: was like, I'll see you next week.
[21:09] Speaker 2: How did you Who did you book? How did you get?
[21:11] Speaker 3: Just any person I knew?
[21:12] Speaker 1: Who?
[21:13] Speaker 2: Who?
[21:13] Speaker 4: I knew a few people in New York I knew
[21:15] Speaker 4: like these like bad local rappers, and I would be like, Okay,
[21:18] Speaker 4: you come for two hours and then like I'd be like, dude,
[21:20] Speaker 4: I'll give you a deal, and I'd like and I
[21:22] Speaker 4: just was like I finagled. Like it was like I
[21:26] Speaker 4: made like I got like eleven hundred dollars or something
[21:30] Speaker 4: in two days. And I like I did it by
[21:32] Speaker 4: like everyone I knew and like a few of my
[21:34] Speaker 4: friends from Virginia. I was like, dude, please, just like
[21:38] Speaker 4: I'll find a way to get you back, like and
[21:40] Speaker 4: I just made it happen.
[21:41] Speaker 2: Was he like renting? I don't really understand. It was
[21:43] Speaker 2: just like it was just like your rent studio time,
[21:45] Speaker 2: like you can out of his studio, like you can
[21:47] Speaker 2: rent a really, have.
[21:49] Speaker 3: You ever been to a studio?
[21:50] Speaker 1: No?
[21:50] Speaker 3: Oh, you've never been to recordings.
[21:52] Speaker 1: I don't.
[21:52] Speaker 2: I'm not in music.
[21:53] Speaker 4: Oh okay, so so like so quit when I graduate
[21:56] Speaker 4: when I was twenty so basically playing classical music. Recording
[22:01] Speaker 4: studios ye are are rented hourly or by the day,
[22:06] Speaker 4: and and it's just like a rate. It's like a
[22:08] Speaker 4: fixed rate. And he had a studio and when he
[22:10] Speaker 4: wasn't using it, he would rent it out, okay, And
[22:13] Speaker 4: I rented it the whole time. And he was like, great,
[22:15] Speaker 4: come back next weekend. And I was like, I have
[22:17] Speaker 4: no money. How am I going to get back? And
[22:18] Speaker 4: then he was like you can stay. He was like,
[22:20] Speaker 4: every time you're in New York, you can stay at
[22:22] Speaker 4: my place. And I was like, okay, so at least
[22:24] Speaker 4: I have a place to stay now. The time I
[22:26] Speaker 4: started doing that, sixteen, I sixteen about I started doing it.
[22:30] Speaker 4: I would travel back and forth every weekend.
[22:32] Speaker 3: Sixteen long of a drive was four and a half hours.
[22:36] Speaker 1: You tried.
[22:37] Speaker 3: I used to take the funk Wa bus y. Yeah, yeah, dude.
[22:40] Speaker 3: It used to be twenty dollars round trade.
[22:42] Speaker 2: It was like, oh, take it at three thirty am,
[22:44] Speaker 2: and it was like it was like four bucks it was.
[22:47] Speaker 2: And they had like shrimp on the bottom of it
[22:49] Speaker 2: broke down.
[22:50] Speaker 3: Oh my god. Yeah, I was on it was insane.
[22:54] Speaker 4: It's it would like it would like sometimes it would
[22:57] Speaker 4: just smell like trash the time, but it was like
[23:00] Speaker 4: it was like heaven to me.
[23:01] Speaker 3: I loved it and I would get back like just
[23:03] Speaker 3: in time for.
[23:04] Speaker 2: You were just close enough to New York City to
[23:07] Speaker 2: like really start you get to see it start entertainment,
[23:10] Speaker 2: I start. Yeah, I think like I was.
[23:13] Speaker 3: In Jersey and New York City.
[23:14] Speaker 2: That's smart that you were like in the proximity.
[23:17] Speaker 4: Yeah, it was like it was just close enough and
[23:19] Speaker 4: like so then when I would go, I.
[23:21] Speaker 2: Think that's half the battle, just being in the place
[23:23] Speaker 2: where it's happening, dude.
[23:24] Speaker 4: So it's so I remember one time I'm there, okay,
[23:29] Speaker 4: I'm I'm eighteen now, and he's like, yo, I got
[23:32] Speaker 4: some important sessions coming through. It was like t I
[23:36] Speaker 4: was there first and then afterwards it was it was
[23:39] Speaker 4: it was spank rock and he was like, I got
[23:42] Speaker 4: this guy coming in. He was like, whatever he wants.
[23:46] Speaker 4: You're his studio assistant, you're his bitch, you do whatever
[23:49] Speaker 4: he wants. I was like, okay, So like it's in
[23:51] Speaker 4: Williamsburg the studio and it's like two thousand and six
[23:55] Speaker 4: and he walks in and he's like, oh, I'm kind
[23:59] Speaker 4: of hungry, and he was like, can you order me
[24:01] Speaker 4: this thing? So I ordered him this thing from this
[24:03] Speaker 4: place called any Time. It's not even there anymore. So
[24:05] Speaker 4: like I'm in the session and I like bring him
[24:08] Speaker 4: his food and he's like, hey, what do you think
[24:11] Speaker 4: about this? And he like wraps a thing to me,
[24:13] Speaker 4: this bankrack, and I'm like, oh man, that's so good.
[24:16] Speaker 4: And then like I'm working with him the next day.
[24:18] Speaker 4: The next day, same thing, bring him in his food
[24:20] Speaker 4: and he's like he's like, hey, he's like what rhymes
[24:23] Speaker 4: with like telephone or something. And I was like, oh, maybe,
[24:27] Speaker 4: well maybe telephone. I was like, beellphone. I was like telephone, telephone.
[24:33] Speaker 3: Telephone is such a hard one. So so I.
[24:37] Speaker 4: Like he like takes the line and then we start
[24:40] Speaker 4: like talking and like developing this like report.
[24:42] Speaker 2: But he was new too. He was like he was cool.
[24:46] Speaker 3: He was like very cool, and it was like and
[24:48] Speaker 3: I didn't care.
[24:49] Speaker 4: I only cared about cool shit because I was like
[24:51] Speaker 4: living in Williamsburg at the time, and it's like, you know,
[24:53] Speaker 4: this was like before Santi was even a thing, like
[24:56] Speaker 4: we put her on her first, like her first collaboration
[24:59] Speaker 4: was with us, and I remember like one night they
[25:03] Speaker 4: were like, Yo, we're gonna go back to the studio.
[25:05] Speaker 4: I need you to prepare the studio. So I took
[25:07] Speaker 4: the train, and the way that it worked back then
[25:11] Speaker 4: is like from where I lived, I had to go
[25:12] Speaker 4: all the way in the city, then all the way
[25:14] Speaker 4: back to brook because I lived in Brooklyn too. There
[25:16] Speaker 4: was no like connector because the L train used to
[25:18] Speaker 4: like not connect to anything. So like I like went
[25:21] Speaker 4: all the way in the city, all the way to
[25:22] Speaker 4: his thing, and then he was like, actually, I need
[25:24] Speaker 4: you to bring this demo CD to me. He's like,
[25:26] Speaker 4: I'm actually gonna be with Diddy, and I was like fuck.
[25:29] Speaker 4: So I had to go all the way back then
[25:31] Speaker 4: all the way there and he's like and then he
[25:33] Speaker 4: was like, we left, We're at the next place. You
[25:35] Speaker 4: got to meet us in the next place. So I'm like,
[25:37] Speaker 4: the fuck this is this is this is disco d
[25:40] Speaker 4: He's like, and I'm like fuck. So I like go
[25:42] Speaker 4: to the next place and then he's like gone from
[25:44] Speaker 4: the next place and he's like, dude, He's like meet
[25:46] Speaker 4: us to the next place, and I'm running in the
[25:47] Speaker 4: rain with the CD and I'm like and I I
[25:50] Speaker 4: finally get there and I'm like and he's like, dude,
[25:53] Speaker 4: we went to another place.
[25:54] Speaker 3: Just meet us back at the studio. I'm crushed.
[25:58] Speaker 2: Why is with you or no?
[26:00] Speaker 4: It's just like I'm too so and I'm like too
[26:03] Speaker 4: slow because I didn't have any money, so I was
[26:04] Speaker 4: like fuck it.
[26:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, I got it.
[26:06] Speaker 4: I'm just gonna take a taxi for this last thing
[26:08] Speaker 4: and I'll just like eat less the next day.
[26:10] Speaker 3: So I like take the taxi.
[26:11] Speaker 4: I get back, I'm like covered in rain and it's
[26:14] Speaker 4: like everyone's there.
[26:15] Speaker 3: It's like most death is there.
[26:18] Speaker 4: You're locking every single person. Everything is a race. Everything
[26:22] Speaker 4: is a race. I'm sitting there and there's like models
[26:25] Speaker 4: and artists and it's like it's crazy. It's like this
[26:28] Speaker 4: was like the first time where I like saw like
[26:30] Speaker 4: I'm like whoa yeah, and I'm sitting there and I
[26:35] Speaker 4: remember all the girls and everyone were just like, oh
[26:38] Speaker 4: my god, you're so wet, like like dry off and
[26:41] Speaker 4: and and spank Craft was like, oh man, it's good
[26:44] Speaker 4: to see you, like blah blah, and I'm like in
[26:46] Speaker 4: heaven and then like the guy just humiliates me that
[26:50] Speaker 4: disco deep, just like full humiliate amilia. First he was like,
[26:56] Speaker 4: go get us, go get us snacks. Okay, So I
[26:59] Speaker 4: go downstairs. I bring him back and it was like
[27:01] Speaker 4: he was like, that's the wrong one. And he opens
[27:04] Speaker 4: up a bottle of a bag of potato chips and
[27:07] Speaker 4: pours him on my U in front of everyone. And
[27:12] Speaker 4: then like and then I'm like and he was like
[27:15] Speaker 4: and he was like and I like finally like walk
[27:18] Speaker 4: into the room and stuff, and he's like, no, you're
[27:21] Speaker 4: not allowed in right now.
[27:22] Speaker 3: He's like, you can't come in the room. And I'm like,
[27:24] Speaker 3: there's this little.
[27:27] Speaker 2: Samurai dude.
[27:28] Speaker 4: There's this little window and I just can look in
[27:31] Speaker 4: the studio and I see everyone in there, like and.
[27:34] Speaker 3: I'm like sitting outside.
[27:35] Speaker 4: And then I remember the next day I saw he
[27:39] Speaker 4: was the best, but he was but he was he
[27:40] Speaker 4: was trouble. And the next day I came in and
[27:43] Speaker 4: I remember he was like, all right, play me your
[27:45] Speaker 4: beats because I think he felt bad. He was like
[27:48] Speaker 4: playing your beats and like playing my beats and he
[27:51] Speaker 4: literally takes all the files and deletes them at least
[27:55] Speaker 4: my whole hard drive and he's like these suck and.
[27:58] Speaker 3: He was like start again as a monster. And he
[28:01] Speaker 3: goes start again, Oh my god.
[28:03] Speaker 4: And then like and then another time another time he
[28:05] Speaker 4: took my hard drive and he threw it out the window,
[28:08] Speaker 4: and and and and and I was like crushed all
[28:12] Speaker 4: these because Psycho, I was crushed. And he would be
[28:16] Speaker 4: like but he would always tell me something. He'd be like, Okay,
[28:19] Speaker 4: this is why I deleted it all him. He was like,
[28:20] Speaker 4: I want you to watch me make a bet. And
[28:22] Speaker 4: I was like studying him because I was obsessed with
[28:24] Speaker 4: this guy was so far ahead of his time, and
[28:26] Speaker 4: he was so good at dealing with artists and so
[28:28] Speaker 4: good at it.
[28:29] Speaker 2: He actually I learned everything.
[28:33] Speaker 4: I would never be who I am without knowing what
[28:36] Speaker 4: he did. Like really, if he was around for like
[28:39] Speaker 4: a little bit longer, he would have been like one
[28:41] Speaker 4: of the biggest producers. He was just like suicide. He
[28:45] Speaker 4: was he was he was like, was too far ahead
[28:46] Speaker 4: of his time, but like and he like he like
[28:49] Speaker 4: it was. It was really like karate kidship, but he
[28:52] Speaker 4: would like torture me like it was dude.
[28:54] Speaker 2: One time, was he getting off on it or was.
[28:57] Speaker 3: I think he was just crazy. One time.
[28:59] Speaker 4: One time, I was literally they had like a session
[29:01] Speaker 4: coming and he wanted to have like a really big
[29:03] Speaker 4: screen TV for the session, like for the as the computer.
[29:07] Speaker 4: And I remember I was setting it up and he
[29:09] Speaker 4: was like faster and he had a bamboo stick and
[29:12] Speaker 4: he was.
[29:12] Speaker 3: Hitting me with it and I was like, you're putting
[29:17] Speaker 3: it out. I was like, I wanted bombs. Here's my bombs.
[29:22] Speaker 4: And I was like and like I was just like crushed,
[29:24] Speaker 4: but like he would just give me these like nuggets
[29:26] Speaker 4: of gold like at all times, and like, honestly, like
[29:31] Speaker 4: a lot of the people that I work with today
[29:33] Speaker 4: are people that I met through those times. So it's
[29:35] Speaker 4: like so it's like I don't know if this is
[29:38] Speaker 4: supposed to be one of those things, but it's like
[29:40] Speaker 4: all the shit you're taking and all the stuff you're
[29:43] Speaker 4: doing to build up your career and you think it's
[29:47] Speaker 4: not worth it, like that stuff comes back, like I'm
[29:49] Speaker 4: working with these people. I'm working with people I literally
[29:52] Speaker 4: met seventeen years ago, right seventeen eighteen years ago, and
[29:57] Speaker 4: I went through some shit and it's like, dude, I
[29:59] Speaker 4: went through so much much shit, you know how many times,
[30:01] Speaker 4: like I didn't get credit, Like I like made a
[30:03] Speaker 4: whole song and got.
[30:04] Speaker 2: No credit stolen from you.
[30:07] Speaker 3: Oh my god, are you kidding me? Dude?
[30:10] Speaker 2: Horrendous dude.
[30:11] Speaker 4: One time I had a number one song stolen from
[30:14] Speaker 4: no credit, one song, no credit, And I remember I
[30:18] Speaker 4: like went in I went into the manager of that
[30:20] Speaker 4: person's thing office and I was like and I was like,
[30:24] Speaker 4: they stole my song, and he was like, no, they didn't.
[30:27] Speaker 4: And then I opened up a laptop and I played
[30:29] Speaker 4: my version with a date stamp that was like before
[30:31] Speaker 4: the one they created. And then I remember like the
[30:34] Speaker 4: manager was like hold on. He like closed the door
[30:36] Speaker 4: and he was like, let's just talk about this. And
[30:39] Speaker 4: then and then I remember I called the person who
[30:41] Speaker 4: stole it from me and I was like, hey man,
[30:43] Speaker 4: you you stole that thing like that was mine. I
[30:45] Speaker 4: did that like I did that, and he said, what
[30:49] Speaker 4: are you gonna do about it? And then he was
[30:51] Speaker 4: like he was like, he goes, I'll bury you in
[30:54] Speaker 4: legal fees. He goes, you don't have any money to
[30:56] Speaker 4: fight this. He goes, just just take this one. Just
[30:59] Speaker 4: just just like gave me like a virtual pad on
[31:02] Speaker 4: the back. He was like, you just take this one,
[31:04] Speaker 4: You'll get the next one. Like, oh my god, do
[31:08] Speaker 4: you know how many Do you know how many times?
[31:11] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[31:12] Speaker 4: Yeah, but like but but all of those moments, like
[31:14] Speaker 4: that's why I like when I sign kids like it
[31:16] Speaker 4: makes it gives me like so much pleasure to like
[31:19] Speaker 4: to like give these guys like fair deals and like
[31:22] Speaker 4: and like to.
[31:23] Speaker 2: Put potato chips in their hair.
[31:25] Speaker 4: No, no, but to like watch these dudes, Like I
[31:28] Speaker 4: have so many people that I signed that I watch them, like, dude,
[31:31] Speaker 4: I have like, well.
[31:31] Speaker 2: You're like you're like an abused child that gets to
[31:34] Speaker 2: like raise and.
[31:35] Speaker 4: I didn't, yeah, and I didn't, like I didn't do that,
[31:38] Speaker 4: I like paid it forward. And it's like it's so
[31:41] Speaker 4: cool to like see that. So it's like all these
[31:43] Speaker 4: things that you have like when you're growing up, they
[31:46] Speaker 4: make you who you.
[31:47] Speaker 2: Are, right, Okay, but oh my god, you have to
[31:51] Speaker 2: you have to process that.
[31:53] Speaker 3: Kidding.
[31:53] Speaker 4: I have so much trauma, like this thing could Yeah.
[31:57] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[31:59] Speaker 4: When when I was I honestly like one when when
[32:02] Speaker 4: I was like twenty something and I like start like
[32:05] Speaker 4: twenty one and I started getting like so much success
[32:08] Speaker 4: to started making money for the first time. I didn't
[32:09] Speaker 4: know what to do. I lost my mind. I lost
[32:12] Speaker 4: my crazy. I lost my mind. I like didn't leave
[32:15] Speaker 4: the house for like six months. I was like gore phobic,
[32:18] Speaker 4: Like I like, dude, I literally lost my mind eggs
[32:22] Speaker 4: and I and I had to see. I had to see,
[32:24] Speaker 4: Like I saw a therapist like three times a week,
[32:27] Speaker 4: and he like built me back and then like and
[32:29] Speaker 4: then I came back like better than ever.
[32:31] Speaker 2: Lost your mind doing drugs or lost line And just.
[32:33] Speaker 4: Like it was all too much. There was too much pressure,
[32:36] Speaker 4: too much, drivers much money, too much. Like I just
[32:38] Speaker 4: like didn't I didn't understand, Like I wasn't built like that.
[32:41] Speaker 3: I'd never seen any of this shit.
[32:43] Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't know song stealing was so yeah, it
[32:46] Speaker 2: goes right all that shit that's fucked up. Yeah, And
[32:49] Speaker 2: like because like joke thievery and comedy is so taboo
[32:52] Speaker 2: and all comics will snitch on you if you steal
[32:55] Speaker 2: a joke, Like comics are looking out for each other
[32:57] Speaker 2: with joke thievery. Comics are looking out for.
[33:00] Speaker 3: Each other with that you ever steal a joke?
[33:02] Speaker 2: Never, no, never, I have like one type of comedy.
[33:07] Speaker 2: My comedic creative choices are so idiosyncratic. And specific if
[33:14] Speaker 2: I even if I stole a joke, it wouldn't work.
[33:16] Speaker 2: I have like one I sing one song, and I
[33:19] Speaker 2: singing it well like there's only there's only one tempo,
[33:22] Speaker 2: one speed, one volume. You know, I only can do
[33:27] Speaker 2: one thing. So and even if like I had a
[33:29] Speaker 2: joke that was like similar to somebody else's joke, and
[33:32] Speaker 2: like it was written from my it was purely written
[33:35] Speaker 2: for it never went on TV or anything, but just
[33:38] Speaker 2: somebody like suggested like, oh no, Lucy kas a joke
[33:40] Speaker 2: like that. I never did it. Yeah, and I never
[33:43] Speaker 2: put it on Netflix. I never went on TV. Just
[33:45] Speaker 2: I like I did it at the Laugh Factory and
[33:47] Speaker 2: like they would put comics on their website. Sometimes somebody
[33:50] Speaker 2: was like in the comments, was like, that reminds me
[33:52] Speaker 2: of this joke, and I was like, just the fact
[33:54] Speaker 2: that it reminds you of that joke, it's gone. It's
[33:57] Speaker 2: out of the repertoire.
[33:58] Speaker 4: Yeah, no, it's just like it's like but getting crushed
[34:02] Speaker 4: is like part of it.
[34:04] Speaker 3: It's like it's all it's all like I don't.
[34:06] Speaker 2: Know, I just don't. I've known you for a while,
[34:07] Speaker 2: I didn't know any of that shit happened. It's crazy.
[34:09] Speaker 3: Oh my god, I have so many where I'm just
[34:12] Speaker 3: like crushed.
[34:13] Speaker 2: The chips on the head is shitty.
[34:15] Speaker 4: Oh my god, I got, I got. When you're coming up,
[34:17] Speaker 4: you really get crushed.
[34:19] Speaker 2: Like the people that are successful are the people are
[34:21] Speaker 2: just willing to put up with all that crushing and
[34:23] Speaker 2: they don't get discouraged enough to quit. Dude, you just
[34:25] Speaker 2: can't give up, du you keep going.
[34:27] Speaker 4: We would we would stay in the studio for like
[34:31] Speaker 4: a week at a time. I would fall asleep. I
[34:33] Speaker 4: remember I was I was falling asleep at the computer
[34:37] Speaker 4: and and and like and like they were throwing it
[34:40] Speaker 4: at me and they were like, dude, wake up. They're like,
[34:42] Speaker 4: we gotta keep going. And I was like I was like, like, dude,
[34:46] Speaker 4: one time I had to go to the hospital. I
[34:49] Speaker 4: was so sick and exhausted.
[34:51] Speaker 3: And exhaustion like the medical term, you know.
[34:54] Speaker 4: I had actual I had like actual fatigue. And they had, dude,
[34:58] Speaker 4: they had to. Like the people I was working with,
[35:02] Speaker 4: they had me on a on like a schedule and
[35:05] Speaker 4: like a thing that would ring, and it would be
[35:06] Speaker 4: like you gotta go to bed now, Benny, like to
[35:08] Speaker 4: get me like back to like life, like dude, we
[35:12] Speaker 4: were working like I was working like like sixty hours straight.
[35:15] Speaker 4: But like that shit like makes you.
[35:17] Speaker 2: That ship made totally, totally absolutely. I was so broke
[35:22] Speaker 2: when I started doing comedy, I was homeless. I would
[35:24] Speaker 2: sleep in the park. There's this little park called Saint
[35:26] Speaker 2: Barton's Park. I would ask I go on stage at
[35:28] Speaker 2: open mics, do my set, try to make everybody laugh,
[35:31] Speaker 2: and then ask audience members if I could sleep over
[35:34] Speaker 2: their house? Did they say yeah? Sometimes I would. I
[35:37] Speaker 2: would add like tooth brushes all over the city. I
[35:39] Speaker 2: would like crash at different people's houses. I would sleep
[35:41] Speaker 2: outside crazy. I would eat like one dollar microwave Indian
[35:45] Speaker 2: food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner because there was the
[35:48] Speaker 2: cheapest thing in the order. When this is like this
[35:54] Speaker 2: is like just just.
[35:56] Speaker 3: After you're just like taking it off.
[35:59] Speaker 2: I had like patch work.
[36:02] Speaker 3: Yeah no, dude, it's.
[36:04] Speaker 4: Like, dude, we're bombing, like like everyone's bombing.
[36:07] Speaker 1: First.
[36:07] Speaker 2: It doesn't end. Bombing doesn't really constantly, it doesn't end. Yeah,
[36:10] Speaker 2: your failures will never end, you.
[36:12] Speaker 4: Know how often? Like I feel like but nobody knows,
[36:14] Speaker 4: like everyone's just like, dude, you make like every big
[36:17] Speaker 4: song wor you know, how many songs I have to
[36:18] Speaker 4: just like completely.
[36:19] Speaker 3: And the crazy thing is I'll be like I'll be.
[36:22] Speaker 4: Like this shit's gonna be the fucking best ever, and
[36:24] Speaker 4: that just like fails and I'm like, oh well, yeah.
[36:25] Speaker 3: I'm like storrty again.
[36:28] Speaker 4: And I just like I just like, won't I refuse
[36:30] Speaker 4: to quit? Yeah, I don't give a fuck. I'll fail
[36:33] Speaker 4: every day. I don't give two ships that I care successful.
[36:36] Speaker 4: I'm like, I'm shameless than that, Like I don't care
[36:38] Speaker 4: about failure at all. Yeah, Like it's like, do you
[36:41] Speaker 4: care about failure? Does it crush you?
[36:43] Speaker 2: I've had it crush me before? Does it when I
[36:46] Speaker 2: go up? I bombed on stage the other night doing
[36:48] Speaker 2: stand up, not last night, but last week, and it
[36:51] Speaker 2: used to crush me. And now I just look at
[36:55] Speaker 2: my jokes like totally objectively. I'll just be like all right,
[37:00] Speaker 2: I'm gonna do this, this, this, this. And I went
[37:01] Speaker 2: up on stage and I had my notes with me
[37:03] Speaker 2: and I was just like, but da da da dah.
[37:04] Speaker 2: I did one joke it went well. Then I was like, great,
[37:06] Speaker 2: that joke works. And then I was like blah blahuh
[37:08] Speaker 2: crickets And I was like that joke mads work, and
[37:12] Speaker 2: then I was like, but da da da, Okay, that
[37:14] Speaker 2: joke still got some fucking gas in it. Now it's
[37:16] Speaker 2: like just objective, like I don't take it personally. I'm
[37:19] Speaker 2: just like uh huhh. And then I'll go back and
[37:21] Speaker 2: I'll listen to the voice memo and I'll be like, oh, yeah,
[37:23] Speaker 2: I stuttered over that word, and I was like, Oh,
[37:25] Speaker 2: that's too harsh for the audience's ears. I should reorder that.
[37:28] Speaker 2: I just look at it completely objectively.
[37:30] Speaker 4: What if you make like a movie and it just bombed,
[37:32] Speaker 4: soul crushing show soul crushing.
[37:35] Speaker 2: I've only made one movie and it did well, but
[37:37] Speaker 2: it didn't make any money. So I did it? Did
[37:39] Speaker 2: it bombed and did well simultaneously?
[37:41] Speaker 3: Do you read like reviews?
[37:42] Speaker 4: Like if somebody said, like a bad review about the
[37:44] Speaker 4: Eric Andre Show, are you crushed?
[37:46] Speaker 2: What we did for Netflix? We took all the bad
[37:49] Speaker 2: reviews and we put it as part of the marketing.
[37:51] Speaker 2: So it's like, this movie's disgusting New York Times. Yeah,
[37:53] Speaker 2: this movie's fucking written by children New York But whatever,
[37:56] Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Sometimes
[38:00] Speaker 2: I'll tell my publicists like, don't send me the bad reviews.
[38:02] Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not in.
[38:03] Speaker 3: Would your public send you the bad review all the time,
[38:06] Speaker 3: that's crazy.
[38:07] Speaker 2: He'll go, he'll go, and he has him in order.
[38:09] Speaker 2: It'll be like great, overwhelmingly great, good, medium, mixed, unfavorable, brutal.
[38:17] Speaker 2: They'll have them online and you go.
[38:19] Speaker 3: You go right for the brute.
[38:20] Speaker 2: You used to go right for the brutal. Now I
[38:22] Speaker 2: started protecting myself against that stuff early on. It depends.
[38:24] Speaker 2: It depends like when the when something first comes out,
[38:28] Speaker 2: that's when you're the most sensitive. And then with time
[38:30] Speaker 2: you can stomach the bad reviews. But some of the
[38:32] Speaker 2: bad reviews are good for you. You want to look
[38:34] Speaker 2: at like all the negative feedback and see where there's
[38:37] Speaker 2: commonalities and take that as a note, be like, you
[38:40] Speaker 2: know what, we shouldn't do a scene like that again. Yeah,
[38:43] Speaker 2: so it's not all about it's not all a bit.
[38:47] Speaker 2: The best. The best was the New York Times reviewer
[38:50] Speaker 2: rips us a new asshole. That's tough because the Times
[38:52] Speaker 2: you want the Times for it's good for bad trip.
[38:55] Speaker 2: Then the New York Times Sunday section came back for
[38:59] Speaker 2: like whatever lifestyle or whatever and gave us like the
[39:02] Speaker 2: best review. Ever, so it was like, oh, there's inner
[39:05] Speaker 2: New York Times turmoil. And it was like such a
[39:07] Speaker 2: victory because it's like the Sunday section they don't need
[39:11] Speaker 2: to report on. It wasn't like a movie reviewer. It
[39:13] Speaker 2: was like just like lifestyle and whatever the fuck and
[39:16] Speaker 2: he gave us a fucking awesome review and it was
[39:19] Speaker 2: such a fucking victory.
[39:20] Speaker 3: It was like, hell, yes, yet, like.
[39:23] Speaker 2: The New York Times, I don't even want that shit.
[39:24] Speaker 2: That's a shit your printing frame, you know.
[39:26] Speaker 4: Of course, my mom, like my mom actually thinks I'm thought.
[39:31] Speaker 4: I was like nothing until I was like a backup
[39:33] Speaker 4: on sn now. One time she's like, dude, one time, Oh, actually,
[39:38] Speaker 4: I have a good one. One time I'm playing a
[39:42] Speaker 4: show and uh, we're on stage and it's front of
[39:47] Speaker 4: like twenty thousand people, okay, and it's with the band
[39:51] Speaker 4: and I'm they're all playing and I'm controlling all of
[39:54] Speaker 4: the music. So like so like you know, how like
[39:57] Speaker 4: people played a track and like and I I mean
[40:00] Speaker 4: controlling the entire thing. And I have like a real
[40:04] Speaker 4: computer that's like it's like plugg dan and stuff. And
[40:08] Speaker 4: this guy is like playing a guitar. He's so fucked up,
[40:12] Speaker 4: and he's like and he's like and then knocks out
[40:17] Speaker 4: my plug and the computer shuts out, and they're like
[40:20] Speaker 4: just like because there's no track. And then I'm like
[40:24] Speaker 4: fuck and it's like we're completely empty. And then I
[40:27] Speaker 4: go to plug it back in and we're at like
[40:29] Speaker 4: a vestival and it literally when the computer turns on.
[40:32] Speaker 2: It was like it was.
[40:43] Speaker 4: So sick when it happened, but it was like, but yeah,
[40:46] Speaker 4: it's like three oh three at the time, it was
[40:51] Speaker 4: at Warped tour headline.
[40:53] Speaker 3: Like just like fucked we just fucked it off.
[40:55] Speaker 4: Like it's just like, yeah, I'm just like, dude, we're
[40:58] Speaker 4: getting like crushed every day. Every his crush every day
[41:01] Speaker 4: is just like a full, a full like just melt down,
[41:06] Speaker 4: just like I'm I'm like melting down and having the
[41:09] Speaker 4: time of my life at all time. Like you know,
[41:12] Speaker 4: when you look at like in music.
[41:14] Speaker 2: What you got to lose, you gotta do it, You
[41:15] Speaker 2: gotta try try and.
[41:16] Speaker 4: Fail comedies like this, Like but like I can, depending
[41:20] Speaker 4: on like a day, like I can like look at
[41:22] Speaker 4: myself and just be like, dude, this is the best
[41:25] Speaker 4: album like I've ever made. And then like the next day,
[41:27] Speaker 4: I can just be like this drash, like my career
[41:29] Speaker 4: is so.
[41:29] Speaker 3: Totally like and it's just like I'll write a joke.
[41:31] Speaker 2: And I'll be like, I'm a fucking genius. Yeah, I
[41:33] Speaker 2: wrote the best joke in the world, and then I
[41:36] Speaker 2: will say it on stage and it will bomb horribly.
[41:39] Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm a fucking asshole. I'm a loser. This joke.
[41:43] Speaker 3: Fuck this joke?
[41:45] Speaker 2: Did I say as a genius? I met up a
[41:47] Speaker 2: fucking loser.
[41:47] Speaker 3: Yeah? What's your biggest bomb? Have you said it on
[41:49] Speaker 3: the pod a million times?
[41:51] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[41:51] Speaker 2: I like bombed opening up for Chris Rock. You know what,
[41:53] Speaker 2: there's so many bombs in the beginning, That's what I'm
[41:55] Speaker 2: saying that. It's like, it's kind of like when you
[41:58] Speaker 2: were like, yeah, yeah, I got beat up at a
[41:59] Speaker 2: freestyle wrap. It's like, yeah, yeah, I got a bottle
[42:01] Speaker 2: thrown at me and a knife full out of him.
[42:03] Speaker 2: I'm like, it's kind of all the blur to me.
[42:05] Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, it's like another day at the office.
[42:07] Speaker 2: So you're just bombing at all times, Ladies and gentlemen.
[42:11] Speaker 2: Benny Blanco, Bye.
