[0:42] Speaker 2: Where you from?
[0:43] Speaker 1: Sam original Austin Boston, Yeah, Roxbury and Dover, fucking Tisbury.
[0:48] Speaker 4: Fucking Dorchester, Dorchester, from Dorchester.
[0:51] Speaker 1: I went to a fucking dung and Donuts and Dorchester.
[0:54] Speaker 1: I gave the guy a fifty. He goes, holy shit,
[0:56] Speaker 1: a fifty. What's your dad a freaking doctor?
[0:58] Speaker 4: Bro, you're killing it. That's good. That's a good one.
[1:01] Speaker 2: But you're black. That's not the black.
[1:03] Speaker 4: I'm black.
[1:03] Speaker 2: That's not the black Dorchester.
[1:05] Speaker 1: No we accent, that's ah, that's a white guy, and yeah,
[1:09] Speaker 1: that's a white guy in Boston.
[1:10] Speaker 5: Boston black people don't really have like a super accent
[1:12] Speaker 5: thing going on.
[1:13] Speaker 2: Boston is segregated. Man, I went to college there.
[1:16] Speaker 4: Oh yeah, did you with school?
[1:17] Speaker 2: Berkeley College music? It was jazz.
[1:21] Speaker 4: Okay, you're a Berkeley kid. You were in a good
[1:24] Speaker 4: area that it was right by Newberry. It was cool
[1:26] Speaker 4: over there.
[1:26] Speaker 2: Did you ever do Emerald Isle the comedy show? Now
[1:31] Speaker 2: you did. But you're younger than I don't think we
[1:34] Speaker 2: crossed past.
[1:35] Speaker 4: I'm not. I'm not younger than you.
[1:36] Speaker 2: Turn forty.
[1:37] Speaker 4: I'm older than you.
[1:38] Speaker 2: Bro, No you're not. Yes, how you you're younger than me?
[1:41] Speaker 4: No, I'm not.
[1:41] Speaker 3: You look black? Do on crack?
[1:43] Speaker 4: Don't? Baby?
[1:43] Speaker 3: You look great.
[1:44] Speaker 4: I'm going to be forty one.
[1:45] Speaker 1: So we're like this close, okay close. So when we
[1:47] Speaker 1: might have been at the Emerald dialds? What are you
[1:50] Speaker 1: doing stand up?
[1:50] Speaker 5: Like?
[1:50] Speaker 2: When did you start doing stand up?
[1:52] Speaker 5: I wasn't okay, so like I was like twenty or
[1:55] Speaker 5: like like twenty twenty one, yeah, and then I was
[2:00] Speaker 5: like I wanted to try it, but I was mad,
[2:01] Speaker 5: like shook. But you know, Chris tab and Corey used
[2:04] Speaker 5: to run Emerald all they should have like a Sunday
[2:07] Speaker 5: show there. Chris tab is my brother, well cousin in law,
[2:11] Speaker 5: that is the thing. He's married to my cousin. So
[2:13] Speaker 5: I would kind of follow them around to try to
[2:15] Speaker 5: like get a sense of like what it was.
[2:17] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[2:17] Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's how I ended up at the Emerald.
[2:19] Speaker 5: I did like it was bad. I did like three
[2:22] Speaker 5: minutes of not good stuff.
[2:23] Speaker 2: Oh that was that your first show?
[2:25] Speaker 5: No, My very first show ever ever was Dick Dougherty's
[2:28] Speaker 5: comedy Vault.
[2:29] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, so you did all the Boston Yeah?
[2:33] Speaker 2: Did you ever do Nicks?
[2:34] Speaker 4: Yep?
[2:35] Speaker 3: Yep.
[2:35] Speaker 2: It was kind of run by the mafia, wasn't it.
[2:37] Speaker 4: Everyone always says, Dude.
[2:39] Speaker 1: The guys there, they look like sopranos. I remember Shake
[2:43] Speaker 1: trying to shake the guys out. I was twenty years old.
[2:44] Speaker 1: I was like, can I just see the show? How
[2:46] Speaker 1: I can't afford any I can't afford a ticket and
[2:49] Speaker 1: I don't have an idea that says I'm twenty one.
[2:51] Speaker 2: And he's just like, just get inside, and I go,
[2:53] Speaker 2: nice to meet you. I'm Eric. He goes, I don't
[2:55] Speaker 2: need to know your fucking name. I said, get inside,
[2:59] Speaker 2: and I was like good comedy is rough in Boston.
[3:03] Speaker 1: Boston's rough, I remember I did. I went to the
[3:05] Speaker 1: Comedy Connection. What was the one downe the Comedy Connection,
[3:09] Speaker 1: and I did it open Mike there once and I
[3:11] Speaker 1: did okay. I did okay, And then the next time
[3:13] Speaker 1: I went there, and then the first time I went there,
[3:15] Speaker 1: the comics were like, hey, you need a soda a
[3:17] Speaker 1: glass of water. Just go on the back and take
[3:19] Speaker 1: the soda gun and and help yourself.
[3:20] Speaker 3: Like okay.
[3:22] Speaker 2: The second time I went, I went to go serve
[3:23] Speaker 2: myself a glass of water, and the owner came up
[3:25] Speaker 2: to me. He goes, you're gonna walk right fucking past
[3:28] Speaker 2: me in my comedy club and you're gonna serve yourself
[3:30] Speaker 2: water without saying hello to me. You're not gonna fucking
[3:34] Speaker 2: respect me. And I was like, dude, I'm a child
[3:36] Speaker 2: and I just need a little water.
[3:38] Speaker 4: Welcome to Boston.
[3:39] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[3:40] Speaker 1: I was like what the fuck? And that was like
[3:42] Speaker 1: the kickoff to comedy. So I was like, oh God,
[3:44] Speaker 1: it's all mob run, Like my life's gonna be like
[3:47] Speaker 1: I'm gonna get shot. The first impression was no worse.
[3:52] Speaker 1: I was like, I'm gonna get an ice pick to
[3:53] Speaker 1: the neck.
[3:54] Speaker 5: What a mess up impression for something that's purely silly, silly.
[3:58] Speaker 2: It's crazy. And then and then it wasn't like too
[4:01] Speaker 2: much like that. But yeah, I think when you start
[4:03] Speaker 2: out you just started with lunatics.
[4:04] Speaker 5: Oh yeah, yeah, early comedy, you're just you're with the
[4:09] Speaker 5: bottom of the barrel of type of. One time, this
[4:14] Speaker 5: is no disrespect to the homeless, but one time I
[4:17] Speaker 5: was on stage. I was on stage at an open
[4:21] Speaker 5: mic and I'm like, this is my dream, this is
[4:26] Speaker 5: my life. Every minute matters, you know what I mean.
[4:29] Speaker 5: And I get off stage and a homeless man walked
[4:31] Speaker 5: in from off the street.
[4:33] Speaker 4: He's like, can I go? And they were like sure, what?
[4:38] Speaker 2: And then did he crush?
[4:40] Speaker 4: He crushed? He crushed. He was so funny just talking
[4:44] Speaker 4: about being homeless.
[4:47] Speaker 3: Crushed.
[4:48] Speaker 4: He killed it.
[4:49] Speaker 2: Williams.
[4:53] Speaker 4: It's like, yo, what am I doing?
[4:57] Speaker 2: So when did you move here from Boston?
[4:59] Speaker 4: I moved.
[5:00] Speaker 5: I moved to La So it was where because I
[5:02] Speaker 5: was young. I lived in La first, so I was young.
[5:06] Speaker 5: I tried it. Then I moved to Atlanta, and I
[5:09] Speaker 5: was just doing other stuff for like six seven years,
[5:12] Speaker 5: that mean, just other stuff.
[5:14] Speaker 4: I was working in music.
[5:15] Speaker 5: I was just doing a bunch of other crab chasing pussy,
[5:17] Speaker 5: you know, shit, living getting drunk club is recognized real,
[5:24] Speaker 5: you know, living being young and living and figuring myself out,
[5:28] Speaker 5: running away from some stuff, fighting some demons, you know,
[5:31] Speaker 5: just that phase of life. And then I moved back
[5:34] Speaker 5: to Boston. Started for real in Boston at like twenty nine.
[5:38] Speaker 2: Okay, so like it was on and off in the
[5:40] Speaker 2: twenties and then you were like, no, I'm gonna do this.
[5:42] Speaker 5: Yeah, twenty nine, you're soul searching. For a little bit,
[5:45] Speaker 5: soul searching. I was doing all types of crap, but no,
[5:47] Speaker 5: and then I just I started like twenty nine, I
[5:49] Speaker 5: like took it real serious.
[5:50] Speaker 4: Then I moved to La.
[5:53] Speaker 5: Then I got JFL, then I got SNL and then
[5:57] Speaker 5: that brought me to New York and then I just
[5:58] Speaker 5: stayed because I can't stay in La.
[6:00] Speaker 2: Yeah, no, Las, I'm don't with it. For thirteen years.
[6:04] Speaker 2: I like LA. I don't hate LA, but I don't
[6:07] Speaker 2: love LA. I love New York City. I love New
[6:10] Speaker 2: York City. And I was in LA for thirteen years,
[6:12] Speaker 2: and I was just like, I can't fucking thank you.
[6:14] Speaker 1: Nothing films out here, Nothing films out here. All my
[6:17] Speaker 1: meetings are virtual. You can do any writer's room on zoom,
[6:19] Speaker 1: you can do any meeting on zoom whatever. And then
[6:22] Speaker 1: everything shoots in Atlanta, New Orleans, Toronto, So don't.
[6:24] Speaker 4: Yeah out here, Yeah yeah yeah, And that's true. I
[6:27] Speaker 4: don't hate LA.
[6:27] Speaker 5: I have friends in LA, and like when I'm there
[6:29] Speaker 5: for little spurts, I'm like, this is all right, Yeah,
[6:31] Speaker 5: but it is like long term, I just get bored, to.
[6:33] Speaker 4: Be quite honest, I just get very bored.
[6:35] Speaker 2: It's boring.
[6:36] Speaker 4: It's boring. I feel like it's more for like when
[6:37] Speaker 4: you're done, like.
[6:39] Speaker 2: Like retired, Yeah, you got your kid, you.
[6:41] Speaker 4: Just want like yard space and fresh air all the time.
[6:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm like what am I? But I feel like
[6:46] Speaker 1: I was like, am I missing something? Is there something
[6:49] Speaker 1: appealing to this place that I'm missing? And then I'm
[6:53] Speaker 1: like no, And then I was like the people that
[6:54] Speaker 1: are into it are a little boring.
[6:55] Speaker 5: So yeah, no, they're like they're they've settled down, like
[6:58] Speaker 5: we're still out here, dogs running street.
[7:02] Speaker 2: You got kids?
[7:03] Speaker 4: No?
[7:03] Speaker 2: Do you want kids?
[7:04] Speaker 4: No?
[7:04] Speaker 2: No, that's it. I'm not gonna adopt nothing. No.
[7:08] Speaker 4: I mean like, I'm a lesbian, so it can't happen
[7:09] Speaker 4: on accident.
[7:10] Speaker 5: You know, it's like such a deliberate decision and I've
[7:13] Speaker 5: gone this long and I'm like, chilling, you're.
[7:15] Speaker 2: Not grabbing the baster You're not grabbing the baster.
[7:17] Speaker 5: No. Sometimes my fiance talks like she wants to, but
[7:21] Speaker 5: I don't think she really does.
[7:22] Speaker 2: I mean she wants to, mean she wants to think
[7:24] Speaker 2: so and you don't want to.
[7:25] Speaker 1: So she's trying to. She's trying to tiptoe around it,
[7:27] Speaker 1: like yeah, you want to, right, and you're like no,
[7:30] Speaker 1: She's like, but you kind of do right.
[7:32] Speaker 4: Well, maybe maybe that's it.
[7:33] Speaker 2: What if she's like I really really read.
[7:35] Speaker 4: It, then I have to.
[7:36] Speaker 5: Yeah, and then I have this kid I hate.
[7:43] Speaker 4: Perfect you know how it works?
[7:47] Speaker 2: All right? I want to ask you about stand up comedy.
[7:49] Speaker 1: Yeah, what is the worst You've ever bombed?
[7:53] Speaker 2: That's what this podcast is about. It's called bombing worst
[7:56] Speaker 2: show You've ever had?
[7:57] Speaker 4: The worst?
[7:58] Speaker 5: Oh, I was touring with Jonathan Gates. He was the
[8:03] Speaker 5: first person to take me out and like be like
[8:05] Speaker 5: you're ready to feature in like do your old time.
[8:07] Speaker 2: I don't know, Jonathan, paint me a picture.
[8:10] Speaker 5: Jonathan is he runs the only black room in Boston Slaves.
[8:14] Speaker 5: It's a Wednesday night, like comedy night. It's the only
[8:17] Speaker 5: black night.
[8:18] Speaker 2: In the city.
[8:19] Speaker 5: It's at this spot in Roxbury that's known for its
[8:22] Speaker 5: chicken wings.
[8:23] Speaker 3: You know.
[8:23] Speaker 5: It's like real, like you're in the hood. And he's
[8:27] Speaker 5: an old deaf jam guy. He used to be on
[8:29] Speaker 5: the Deaf Jam Shore. He's like Martin Lawrence. So he's
[8:31] Speaker 5: like that style of a comedian, which was great for
[8:34] Speaker 5: me because I went to the like white side of
[8:37] Speaker 5: comedy first because I was scared to do it like
[8:39] Speaker 5: around people like my actual friend, Like I didn't you.
[8:42] Speaker 4: Know what I'm saying, Like I didn't want to do
[8:43] Speaker 4: it in my neighborhood. Then I'm bad.
[8:45] Speaker 5: And then I got to catch the bus and the
[8:46] Speaker 5: nigga's like boom. So I would go all out to
[8:51] Speaker 5: Vermont because I was like, I don't care about these
[8:52] Speaker 5: white people like to see him again, you know what
[8:57] Speaker 5: I'm saying, So just don't work out. I'm still in
[9:00] Speaker 5: at home, you know what I mean. So I waited
[9:03] Speaker 5: like a little while before.
[9:04] Speaker 4: I even like ventured over there.
[9:07] Speaker 5: But then it was good because it was it's like
[9:09] Speaker 5: the crowd work all that other stuff that kind of
[9:11] Speaker 5: was missing for the other rooms. I really needed to
[9:13] Speaker 5: be like a well rounded comic. And so he was
[9:16] Speaker 5: like the first to pay me like real money.
[9:19] Speaker 2: He was the first to take you under his way.
[9:21] Speaker 5: Yeah, like heavy real money, like talk to me about
[9:23] Speaker 5: like what I was doing, and taught me a lot
[9:26] Speaker 5: of the habits I think you get in those more
[9:28] Speaker 5: alty rooms. He kind of got me like in the middle,
[9:31] Speaker 5: you know what I mean. He would be like, yo,
[9:33] Speaker 5: you just killed like this was that was the joke.
[9:35] Speaker 5: Why'd you keep talking?
[9:36] Speaker 2: And I'm like I don't know.
[9:37] Speaker 5: And he's like, I don't care if it's if you
[9:39] Speaker 5: have fifteen, but you hit that joke at ten.
[9:42] Speaker 4: Leave.
[9:43] Speaker 5: What are you hanging out for it? I'm like, you
[9:45] Speaker 5: know what, You're right man, I'm tripping. So like a
[9:47] Speaker 5: little bit of that stuff I learned from him.
[9:49] Speaker 2: He was an early mentor early mentor.
[9:51] Speaker 5: So he takes me out of town and at this
[9:55] Speaker 5: point I'm like riding high. I've like done like a
[9:58] Speaker 5: few like weekends with him.
[9:59] Speaker 4: I've killed. I'm like, yeah, I got this, got this.
[10:02] Speaker 5: We go through some like birthday party for some like
[10:05] Speaker 5: old drug dealer legend of like Cincinnati.
[10:09] Speaker 4: We were like in the weirdest place. I don't remember
[10:11] Speaker 4: exactly where we were.
[10:13] Speaker 5: It was like a like a freaking VFW hall type
[10:16] Speaker 5: of situation that they like fully decked out. Yeah, but
[10:20] Speaker 5: they like they made it as nice as you could
[10:22] Speaker 5: possibly make, like an Elks lodge situation. Everybody was like
[10:27] Speaker 5: dressed to the nines, but like older, you know. And
[10:31] Speaker 5: it was pat and I got out and my first
[10:36] Speaker 5: joke was about like a strap them on or something like.
[10:39] Speaker 5: It was something about not feeling it or some some
[10:42] Speaker 5: strap on joke, and they're just staring at me like crickets.
[10:46] Speaker 4: They giving me nothing black room, and they're just.
[10:51] Speaker 2: Like no if that first doesn't work.
[10:54] Speaker 5: But it's just like strap on jokes been killing you know.
[10:57] Speaker 5: I've been like strap them on my strap and people
[11:00] Speaker 5: would be like, you know what I mean, but this
[11:05] Speaker 5: is just like we not they are not interested in
[11:08] Speaker 5: your little gay tails.
[11:09] Speaker 4: So at that point it's like I think it.
[11:11] Speaker 2: Was a homophobic response or what.
[11:13] Speaker 4: I think they just didn't care.
[11:14] Speaker 5: I don't I think if I would have maybe packaged
[11:16] Speaker 5: it some other way, they could have been with it.
[11:18] Speaker 5: I didn't feel anti me as much as it was
[11:21] Speaker 5: like why are you talking to us about.
[11:23] Speaker 2: Strap right right.
[11:24] Speaker 1: Were you the first to go up when you were
[11:27] Speaker 1: you opening up the room or was there somebody on
[11:29] Speaker 1: before you?
[11:29] Speaker 4: It was one person all before me.
[11:30] Speaker 2: You're not going cold, And I was right.
[11:33] Speaker 5: Before Jonathan, and I just like dig in because I
[11:38] Speaker 5: don't know what else to do.
[11:40] Speaker 4: This is the stuff I have.
[11:42] Speaker 1: It's like if the ship that always kills like it's crickets,
[11:45] Speaker 1: then you're like and all.
[11:46] Speaker 5: I had at that point was like I was doing
[11:49] Speaker 5: this whole chunk about like gay sex, so like it
[11:52] Speaker 5: just goes from there to eat and pussy.
[11:54] Speaker 4: It just it just just because that's all I had,
[11:57] Speaker 4: and I just I just stood in it.
[11:59] Speaker 5: And they never they never laughed, they never booed me,
[12:03] Speaker 5: but they eventually stopped paying attention to me.
[12:06] Speaker 4: Which I think is worse.
[12:08] Speaker 5: Yeah, they just started like having their own conversation and
[12:12] Speaker 5: like doing their own thing like when whenever it's this
[12:15] Speaker 5: overworld check back in. And then I got off and
[12:18] Speaker 5: like the dude who was hosting was like a dude
[12:21] Speaker 5: that kind of like was working the event, but he
[12:23] Speaker 5: wasn't like a comic, but he was like you know,
[12:25] Speaker 5: it was one of those type of nights like jt
[12:27] Speaker 5: GO hosts and this's gonna happen. So he comes up,
[12:30] Speaker 5: He's like, you know that young lady tried, and like
[12:35] Speaker 5: gives this whole speech about how they need to be
[12:37] Speaker 5: better as like.
[12:38] Speaker 4: A like which is worse.
[12:41] Speaker 5: It's like when kids make fun of you and then
[12:43] Speaker 5: the principal stands you in front of the class.
[12:45] Speaker 4: They're like, don't even do that.
[12:49] Speaker 5: Her dad just died, you know, Like that's like crappy energy.
[12:54] Speaker 5: And that was probably the worst. And then the next
[12:56] Speaker 5: day Jonathan took me off to breakfast and he was like, so,
[12:58] Speaker 5: what the fuck happened? I was like, I don't know.
[13:02] Speaker 5: It's like, what do you think happened? And then we
[13:03] Speaker 5: had like it was cool because I just talked about
[13:05] Speaker 5: like what I think.
[13:06] Speaker 2: Were you in agony? Were you in pain? Emotional?
[13:09] Speaker 4: I was pretty yeah, I was pretty low.
[13:11] Speaker 2: It wakes you up.
[13:12] Speaker 4: I was pretty low. Yeah, I was pretty low.
[13:16] Speaker 2: You have ten good shows in a row, you get
[13:18] Speaker 2: one bad show and it.
[13:19] Speaker 4: Hangs over you till you shake it.
[13:21] Speaker 5: Yeah, because you I mean, I think you feel like
[13:23] Speaker 5: comedy is a bit like you're lucky to be able
[13:26] Speaker 5: to do it, and you feel a little bit like
[13:28] Speaker 5: it's not in your control. Like it's this weird mystic
[13:30] Speaker 5: thing that you're like wielding. So when you have like
[13:32] Speaker 5: a bad show, it's like an.
[13:34] Speaker 4: Omen over you. It's like, oh I lost it? Am
[13:36] Speaker 4: I ever gonna give you? To get it bad?
[13:38] Speaker 2: You feel like your magical power is just left you.
[13:40] Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's like it hangs on you to you
[13:42] Speaker 4: like have a good show a.
[13:44] Speaker 2: Little bit torture. Why do we do it?
[13:46] Speaker 5: I don't know, because we've watched all those like dumb
[13:48] Speaker 5: movies that like mess your head up. I think it's
[13:51] Speaker 5: really like media, except like what I was going to.
[13:52] Speaker 5: There was always these movies where like someone was like
[13:54] Speaker 5: the greatest kicker or baseball player, and then it's like
[13:58] Speaker 5: all of a sudden they have like bad kick and
[14:00] Speaker 5: then it just I can't tell it is it's like
[14:04] Speaker 5: lose their whole life, you know what.
[14:09] Speaker 3: With arecdre with a recoddre shit?
[14:20] Speaker 2: One time I did Wendy Williams had a show when
[14:23] Speaker 2: I lived here in my early twenties in New York.
[14:25] Speaker 2: She had a show. She had a comedy show to
[14:26] Speaker 2: the Laugh Factory on I don't think it's there anymore.
[14:28] Speaker 1: It's like on eighth and forty second Street. It was
[14:31] Speaker 1: there back in the day. It's like early two thousands,
[14:33] Speaker 1: and Capone hosted I don't know if you know who
[14:35] Speaker 1: Copone is all black room and I was like probably
[14:41] Speaker 1: like two years into comedy and I only played like
[14:43] Speaker 1: ault rooms up until this this particular night. And oh
[14:49] Speaker 1: the guy that booked me, I did like really high
[14:51] Speaker 1: energy stuff. So he's like and he saw me at
[14:53] Speaker 1: the improv or something, so he's like, go up and
[14:55] Speaker 1: just do do your high energy stuff. I was like, okay,
[14:58] Speaker 1: And I'm watching all the comics like, I don't know
[15:00] Speaker 1: if I'm right, if I'm the right flavor. I think
[15:04] Speaker 1: I think people want uh, less death metal and more
[15:08] Speaker 1: R and B at this particular venue and uh. And
[15:13] Speaker 1: I get on stage and the first joke out of
[15:15] Speaker 1: my mouth I try to make fun of the three
[15:17] Speaker 1: women in the front audience. They look like SWV and
[15:20] Speaker 1: I go s W I wanted to go s WV
[15:22] Speaker 1: is here, and I messed up the letters. I was
[15:24] Speaker 1: like SWP is here and people were like what and
[15:27] Speaker 1: then and then and then that was it. It was
[15:29] Speaker 1: like it was over and they were like what, like
[15:32] Speaker 1: the whole fifteen hundred was a big theater.
[15:35] Speaker 2: What? And then and then I was like, oh, anyway,
[15:37] Speaker 2: I'm from Florida.
[15:38] Speaker 1: They're like And I got through my first joke and
[15:41] Speaker 1: I looked over at Wendy Williams and she gave me
[15:43] Speaker 1: like you're doing okay. I mean you're not doing okay,
[15:46] Speaker 1: but like it's it's gonna be okay kind of look.
[15:48] Speaker 1: And then I was like all right, And I got
[15:49] Speaker 1: off stage and I had somebody I like begged this
[15:51] Speaker 1: other comedian to film it and he didn't want to, and.
[15:53] Speaker 2: Like then I got up all around it.
[15:56] Speaker 3: My god, I.
[15:57] Speaker 2: Felt so horrible. Then Capone went on stage after me
[16:00] Speaker 2: and he's like, I.
[16:00] Speaker 1: Don't know who that dude was, but he'll never come
[16:03] Speaker 1: back here again.
[16:04] Speaker 2: And the crowd it was like, yeah, that's my son.
[16:09] Speaker 3: Fuck him.
[16:10] Speaker 2: And there's like thousands of people like yeah, we hate.
[16:16] Speaker 4: From the left.
[16:18] Speaker 2: And he ripped into me and he like like did
[16:20] Speaker 2: my set like a bad version of it. He was
[16:22] Speaker 2: like that guy was like, what's he talking about.
[16:26] Speaker 1: He did like five minute riff, which is longer than
[16:29] Speaker 1: I was on stage about how horrible I was, and
[16:32] Speaker 1: everyone was like like the high five and he was
[16:36] Speaker 1: dut wrenching. I was just sitting in the back, like
[16:39] Speaker 1: you know with Vietnam Chopper sound effects of my like,
[16:44] Speaker 1: but that ship traumatized me, but it made me like
[16:47] Speaker 1: the man. I.
[16:49] Speaker 5: Once you get through it, you know you can do
[16:51] Speaker 5: it forever.
[16:52] Speaker 1: Once you get through that, you know that like you've
[16:55] Speaker 1: been to like the bottom, you've been to the fucking
[16:57] Speaker 1: ninth circle of hell. What's the worst you've seen somebody else?
[17:00] Speaker 3: Bomb?
[17:02] Speaker 1: Is there any like fights you've ever seen in a
[17:04] Speaker 1: comedy club or like just a standing boovation?
[17:10] Speaker 4: Dang, there's just I'm like, wow, there's so many.
[17:13] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's hard.
[17:14] Speaker 1: It's hard to It's like naming your favorite album.
[17:18] Speaker 5: And every bomb you see makes you feel like spectacular.
[17:22] Speaker 5: They're all so funny. They're all so funny like watching them.
[17:26] Speaker 2: Have you ever seen like a fight or anything like that.
[17:28] Speaker 5: I've definitely seen some comedy fights, mostly between comedians over
[17:33] Speaker 5: like stage time and wearing goofy stuff.
[17:36] Speaker 4: Oh ship. I was at the store.
[17:39] Speaker 5: I was just a young young comic hanging out and
[17:43] Speaker 5: Bob Sumner had a night there.
[17:45] Speaker 4: It was a black comedy night and there.
[17:48] Speaker 5: Was a gentleman on stage. He did he did, he
[17:52] Speaker 5: did his routine, had a catchphrase.
[17:54] Speaker 2: He was a Hamburger.
[17:55] Speaker 5: Yeah, but it was it was a repeated catch for
[18:00] Speaker 5: and he had issues with this other comic. And and
[18:02] Speaker 5: this comic was they had gotten into it already. This
[18:06] Speaker 5: had been like documented, They had gotten.
[18:08] Speaker 2: To it outside of existing beef.
[18:09] Speaker 5: Yeah, they had gotten to it outside of the laugh Factory,
[18:12] Speaker 5: and like rumors were swirling.
[18:13] Speaker 4: It was over one of the comics wives or something.
[18:15] Speaker 5: I don't know, but this comic was supposed to be
[18:18] Speaker 5: like incarcerated.
[18:20] Speaker 2: Oh shit.
[18:21] Speaker 4: So the comic who was on stage had like put
[18:24] Speaker 4: a restraining order out against.
[18:27] Speaker 5: Danger as far as I know, right, as far as
[18:29] Speaker 5: I know, I don't know. I don't know if I
[18:31] Speaker 5: have all the effects right, but this is what I heard,
[18:33] Speaker 5: was like a restraining order whatever. So the only reason
[18:36] Speaker 5: this comic was in l A at the time was
[18:39] Speaker 5: because this other.
[18:40] Speaker 4: Comic was supposed to be somewhere where he could not.
[18:42] Speaker 2: Be miss him. Mister A.
[18:45] Speaker 1: Yeah, because mister A had the hamburger catchphrase yep, and
[18:49] Speaker 1: mister B had the the was a guy that was
[18:52] Speaker 1: violent and like yeah it was bad news, yep, okay,
[18:55] Speaker 1: and mister A had a restraining order against mister B. Yeah,
[18:57] Speaker 1: because it was because they had prior beef.
[18:59] Speaker 5: Yes, And I don't want to say mister B was
[19:01] Speaker 5: bad news because he is and was not. He's just
[19:03] Speaker 5: a real nigga.
[19:06] Speaker 3: His was B.
[19:07] Speaker 2: Now you can say talk any ship you want to be.
[19:09] Speaker 5: Just stands on what the fuck he what he's saying,
[19:12] Speaker 5: what he means, you know what I mean.
[19:14] Speaker 4: I don't want to say he's a bad dude. He
[19:16] Speaker 4: just he's just a real nigga.
[19:18] Speaker 5: If he tell you know, don't cross you cross them
[19:20] Speaker 5: and let you know this consequence is there you go.
[19:23] Speaker 5: So mister A catchphrase is there because he thinks mister
[19:28] Speaker 5: B is somewhere with mister B.
[19:29] Speaker 4: Can I access him? Okay, mid set.
[19:33] Speaker 2: Why does mister B have it out for mister A?
[19:36] Speaker 2: What is their prior beef thing.
[19:37] Speaker 4: Is over mister B's wife.
[19:39] Speaker 5: Mister A kept trying to pursue or or something with
[19:43] Speaker 5: mister B's wife.
[19:44] Speaker 4: Mister be Betty clear.
[19:46] Speaker 2: Cy, that's crazy.
[19:47] Speaker 1: I thought it was like, oh, he's stole a joke
[19:49] Speaker 1: or something like, you're trying to fuck a dude's wife.
[19:51] Speaker 5: He's like, cut that out. It's not cool to be
[19:53] Speaker 5: that you acted this way. This day was like kind
[19:56] Speaker 5: of fuck you.
[19:57] Speaker 2: And it's about the guy's wife.
[19:59] Speaker 4: Yeah, it kind of turmes on.
[20:00] Speaker 2: Man, that's crazy as.
[20:01] Speaker 4: Far as I know.
[20:03] Speaker 2: Again, oh you can't guy's wife I got.
[20:07] Speaker 5: It's like, so where they're watching mister A Catchphrase, he's
[20:16] Speaker 5: like mid catchphrase is packed in there, and mister B
[20:22] Speaker 5: comes bursting in to the room holding the restraining for
[20:28] Speaker 5: the paperwork because he's like, you bitch ass nigga, you
[20:31] Speaker 5: thought this sh was gonna keep me for sucking you up.
[20:33] Speaker 5: You thought I was You thought I was locked up, nigga,
[20:35] Speaker 5: I'm not locked up.
[20:36] Speaker 2: In the middle of the middle of.
[20:37] Speaker 5: The show, we're like, oh he walks up to the stage.
[20:46] Speaker 2: Did you think it was like a sketch up? First?
[20:49] Speaker 5: Like this is It's like, this isn't real. So he
[20:53] Speaker 5: walks up to the stage, she picks up a chair.
[20:58] Speaker 4: And they just start fighting like.
[21:01] Speaker 2: Will Smith Chris Rock, but to the to the.
[21:03] Speaker 4: Tenth yes, like fighting, brawling and fighting.
[21:08] Speaker 5: Mister mister A Catchprase is not from California. Mister V
[21:14] Speaker 5: is from l A and has the type of ties
[21:17] Speaker 5: niggas from l A have.
[21:19] Speaker 2: So he had his boys there too.
[21:21] Speaker 4: All these jump up start being this man up and
[21:28] Speaker 4: where were you were you in the crowd.
[21:30] Speaker 5: We were like like like not at the top of
[21:33] Speaker 5: that coy, but like at the bottom, but at the
[21:35] Speaker 5: back of the bottom store.
[21:37] Speaker 1: At the at the at the main room at the
[21:41] Speaker 1: comedy store.
[21:42] Speaker 4: In the back.
[21:47] Speaker 2: Was a little bar show or something.
[21:49] Speaker 4: So he beating this man up to stuff. He dude.
[21:54] Speaker 5: The dude was still trying to when he first jumped up,
[21:56] Speaker 5: so he jump he hit him with the chair and the.
[21:59] Speaker 4: Dude it was cloud but it wasn't like knock him out.
[22:01] Speaker 4: And then dudes like what's your problem?
[22:04] Speaker 5: Like it was like, this is not the time to
[22:06] Speaker 5: still be talking it too the microphone, mister everything.
[22:12] Speaker 4: Like like what's what's wrong with you? Man?
[22:14] Speaker 5: It's like bur bro everything's over. And it could have
[22:18] Speaker 5: been the hit first, then the chair, Like you know
[22:21] Speaker 5: what I'm saying. It could have been the hit first
[22:23] Speaker 5: in the chair, but I bember a chair and I
[22:24] Speaker 5: remember it hit the order.
[22:26] Speaker 4: Could have been versus had to be at least five
[22:28] Speaker 4: years ago they broke it up.
[22:31] Speaker 2: Is there video footage of this?
[22:33] Speaker 4: Someone has?
[22:33] Speaker 2: It has got to be.
[22:36] Speaker 3: There.
[22:37] Speaker 5: People will hear this story and exactly who I am
[22:39] Speaker 5: talking about.
[22:41] Speaker 1: So it's a famous night, infamous, infamous it's like it's
[22:45] Speaker 1: an infamous.
[22:47] Speaker 5: Yes, it's like if you were there, it was like
[22:49] Speaker 5: it was like a legendary now and it put mister
[22:53] Speaker 5: b in a category of he is not one to
[22:55] Speaker 5: be fucked with.
[22:57] Speaker 4: Because he will beat.
[22:58] Speaker 2: Your ass, and said, so he hits, he hits, mister.
[23:04] Speaker 4: Beat him up. They finally pulled each other apart. They
[23:08] Speaker 4: take us to be.
[23:09] Speaker 5: Completely out the venue. Bob Sumner then gets on the
[23:14] Speaker 5: stage and begins to basically bray us as black people,
[23:20] Speaker 5: like why we can't we have ship?
[23:22] Speaker 4: He's just trying to do something nice?
[23:25] Speaker 2: Was the procured?
[23:29] Speaker 4: He lectured.
[23:34] Speaker 2: Like he was like Morgan Freeman at the Bad High School.
[23:38] Speaker 5: Yeah for sure, for sure. Coach Carter, what is your
[23:44] Speaker 5: greatest man? So yeah, man, yeah yeah.
[23:50] Speaker 1: You went from being like, oh, I don't have a
[23:52] Speaker 1: I don't have a crazy story about saying somebody Bob
[23:55] Speaker 1: to like the craziest story I've ever heard take place
[23:58] Speaker 1: at the com cloth And then did other people go on?
[24:01] Speaker 2: Or was the show that was a rap?
[24:02] Speaker 4: That was a rat? Got up?
[24:03] Speaker 5: He screamed at us, Oh, very very emotional lean on
[24:09] Speaker 5: me speech.
[24:10] Speaker 2: It was like, we gotta dig up that footage.
[24:19] Speaker 3: With a Recdre with a recodrey.
[24:31] Speaker 2: What is the most wasted you've ever been on stage?
[24:35] Speaker 4: Oh?
[24:36] Speaker 2: Man, have you been ever been like that? Or like drunk?
[24:40] Speaker 4: That is like now I can remember?
[24:42] Speaker 2: That was okay, tell me you did Molly on stage?
[24:46] Speaker 4: I was on shrooms.
[24:48] Speaker 2: Yeah, how'd that go?
[24:49] Speaker 4: Sometimes it goes great.
[24:51] Speaker 2: I did a shroom show. I show.
[24:53] Speaker 1: It was kind of one of the best sets I've
[24:54] Speaker 1: ever had. And I improvised like crazy. Yes, like I
[24:57] Speaker 1: need to write this down.
[24:58] Speaker 5: Sometimes it's so lucid you can like get it off
[25:01] Speaker 5: and like I won't do it like if it's serious,
[25:05] Speaker 5: like but if it's like a mic and I'm just
[25:07] Speaker 5: like let me play and try to find stuff or whatever,
[25:09] Speaker 5: or like a light show. But this is only because
[25:12] Speaker 5: I did do it when it was serious and it
[25:15] Speaker 5: was not good.
[25:16] Speaker 4: I was on shrooms.
[25:20] Speaker 2: And on like a little micro dose or like a lot,
[25:22] Speaker 2: or I was on like.
[25:23] Speaker 5: A I was on a little shrewn weed combo, like
[25:26] Speaker 5: a little micro dos or shroom a little edible sweet spot.
[25:31] Speaker 5: And I was taping something. So I had agreed to
[25:35] Speaker 5: do this, like taping for a nerd melt. It was
[25:37] Speaker 5: like nerd, but it wasn't like the show. Like, it
[25:39] Speaker 5: wasn't like Amal's show. It was like just some like
[25:43] Speaker 5: thing they were doing like online.
[25:44] Speaker 2: It was like a Comedy Central show.
[25:46] Speaker 5: No, it wasn't That's what I'm saying. It wasn't the
[25:49] Speaker 5: It wasn't that one. I've done that one. But this
[25:50] Speaker 5: was like something where they were like streaming it online
[25:53] Speaker 5: or putting it online for like nerd Melt something whatever
[25:55] Speaker 5: fuck it was. And I was like, yeah, sure one
[25:58] Speaker 5: night when I was there like whatever. So also I'm thinking,
[26:01] Speaker 5: this isn't a big deal, Like I don't know, Yeah,
[26:04] Speaker 5: it's just something some online thing they're doing. Like I'm
[26:07] Speaker 5: like really minimizing it in my brain, which is on me.
[26:11] Speaker 5: And then I show up and they got like real cameras.
[26:13] Speaker 2: It's like a.
[26:14] Speaker 5: Real situation, and I'm like, oh ship, They're like we're
[26:24] Speaker 5: only like the set was different.
[26:27] Speaker 4: The whole thing was around.
[26:29] Speaker 5: And I always forget when I'm in l A, like
[26:31] Speaker 5: anyone can make anything of true production there kind of easily.
[26:35] Speaker 5: So when people just be like, oh, it's chill, you
[26:37] Speaker 5: always got to think it might be something because because
[26:40] Speaker 5: they have access to just turn it up like that.
[26:42] Speaker 5: So I'm already like shipting breaks because I'm like, I
[26:44] Speaker 5: shouldn't have done what I did, you know, because this
[26:47] Speaker 5: is a lot of stimulation that I was not expectings.
[26:53] Speaker 4: I was getting very nervous. It's getting very nervous.
[26:58] Speaker 5: But I get up and I'm like just brief through
[27:00] Speaker 5: it and like do what the fuck you gotta do?
[27:02] Speaker 4: And I'm good. I'm good.
[27:04] Speaker 5: I'm going and I'm like, I am fine, I got
[27:08] Speaker 5: this ship. And then I just forget everything. No, yeah,
[27:12] Speaker 5: like the whole, No, yeah, the whole. I just I
[27:15] Speaker 5: get to a place and I just stopped and I'm
[27:18] Speaker 5: like and I'm standing there for I'm high. So it
[27:22] Speaker 5: felt like fucking twenty minutes, but it probably had to
[27:25] Speaker 5: be like at least three minutes, which is a long time.
[27:27] Speaker 4: And I'm like, I really don't know.
[27:29] Speaker 5: What I was about to say at this like recording,
[27:33] Speaker 5: I'm like, yo.
[27:36] Speaker 1: How much what minute were you at that point where
[27:40] Speaker 1: you had six? Okay, and what were you supposed to do?
[27:42] Speaker 1: Like fifteen or so?
[27:43] Speaker 4: Yeah, like fifteen twenty minute six.
[27:46] Speaker 5: I was like six minutes in and I was just
[27:48] Speaker 5: exactly and it was like I was too high to
[27:51] Speaker 5: give it, you know what I mean, Like I was
[27:53] Speaker 5: too hod to just be like pop into something else
[27:55] Speaker 5: and just ride that wave, because I was yelling at
[27:58] Speaker 5: myself in my head.
[27:59] Speaker 4: Like how can you forget? Why are you like, you know,
[28:01] Speaker 4: I'm having that, Like how could you let this hap?
[28:03] Speaker 2: It?
[28:05] Speaker 4: You don't deserve anything.
[28:09] Speaker 2: So you're just in the headlights.
[28:10] Speaker 5: It was dear fool deer in the headlights, like yo,
[28:14] Speaker 5: oh shit, like I really don't know what I'm gonna say.
[28:22] Speaker 4: And then somehow I picked it up.
[28:24] Speaker 5: But I it was like I had to acknowledge it,
[28:26] Speaker 5: you know what I mean, Like it went on long
[28:28] Speaker 5: enough where I had to be like, I have made
[28:30] Speaker 5: an error.
[28:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah you should. You could have just gone listen, guys.
[28:34] Speaker 1: I got really high. I didn't know you guys are
[28:36] Speaker 1: gonna have real cameras.
[28:37] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[28:37] Speaker 5: I coulda just went That's what I'm saying. I just
[28:39] Speaker 5: couldn't even but I like, I was like, fuck, I
[28:42] Speaker 5: don't know, man, and so I just kind of like
[28:44] Speaker 5: picked up kept going. But then because I was high,
[28:50] Speaker 5: some fire shit happened and I remembered, oh shit, and
[28:53] Speaker 5: then I was I picked the joke back up close
[28:55] Speaker 5: to the end and it's still tied into something else.
[28:58] Speaker 4: And then I was like, yeah, bitch and that and
[29:00] Speaker 4: that was my made off moment.
[29:03] Speaker 1: I was under So you came up with your dismount,
[29:07] Speaker 1: you got laughs in the Yeah, I got.
[29:08] Speaker 5: Laughs and people were like, and she remembered she's a
[29:11] Speaker 5: fucking and that's that's what started the monster that I am.
[29:18] Speaker 4: Yeah, that was my made off moment.
[29:19] Speaker 5: Like I was watching the Bernie Madoff things and then
[29:21] Speaker 5: I was like, oh.
[29:22] Speaker 4: He got away with that one thing, and then he
[29:24] Speaker 4: was running It's all.
[29:26] Speaker 1: About he got away with one line, and then he
[29:28] Speaker 1: was like, fuck it, I'm going in yep. Oh, I
[29:31] Speaker 1: want to tell you a story about me bombing, and
[29:32] Speaker 1: then I want to ask a couple of questions. One time,
[29:37] Speaker 1: I uh, it was season four of The Eric Andre Show,
[29:41] Speaker 1: and I was doing a tour to promote the show.
[29:44] Speaker 1: So I do like, it's not a stand up tour.
[29:46] Speaker 1: It's like the live version of the talk show where
[29:48] Speaker 1: I like jump out on stage and I break a
[29:50] Speaker 1: ton of stuff and I interview people from the audience,
[29:52] Speaker 1: and I'll interview like a celebrity guest in every tournament
[29:54] Speaker 1: or whatever. It'll be like the local pawnshop guy from
[29:57] Speaker 1: some reality show. If I'm in like in Des Moines
[29:59] Speaker 1: or something. So it was like season four and I
[30:03] Speaker 1: would do a tour with Byron Bowers. So he was
[30:05] Speaker 1: on Byron was on stage warming up the crowd. Then
[30:08] Speaker 1: he went, Ladies and Gentlemen, It's the Air Conjury Show.
[30:10] Speaker 1: Is the first show that tours in Vancouver, Columbia, British Columbia, Canada.
[30:15] Speaker 1: We're in Vancouver, tons of kids in the audience. Byron
[30:19] Speaker 1: goes Ladies and Gentlemen, the Air Country Show. I run
[30:21] Speaker 1: out from backstage under the stage.
[30:24] Speaker 2: I burst through my desk. I started peeing up the desk.
[30:26] Speaker 1: I jump into the crowd to CrowdSurf, and usually the
[30:29] Speaker 1: crowd just like whatever.
[30:30] Speaker 2: I CrowdSurf around, I go back to the stage.
[30:32] Speaker 1: Whatever I jump in the crowd, I'm like, you know,
[30:35] Speaker 1: they're like all holding me up with their hands.
[30:37] Speaker 2: My back is like to their hands or whatever.
[30:39] Speaker 1: Then I feel like one kid underneath me try to
[30:42] Speaker 1: stick all four fingers up my butt crack. He's just
[30:45] Speaker 1: shoving up my butt crack. Then another kid grabs my
[30:49] Speaker 1: dick and balls as hard as he can. And then
[30:52] Speaker 1: like another kid licks his sucks on his finger and
[30:55] Speaker 1: gives me a wet willie and then another kid grabbed
[30:58] Speaker 1: a hot dog off the ground and shoved it in the.
[31:00] Speaker 2: Back like it was crazy.
[31:05] Speaker 1: I was like, and I started doing like street karate,
[31:10] Speaker 1: and then groups of kids formed and started drawing and
[31:13] Speaker 1: quartering my limbs in different directions.
[31:16] Speaker 2: They were like tearing me alive in like a medieval assault.
[31:19] Speaker 2: It was crazy.
[31:19] Speaker 1: So I was like and then finally like chicken punching
[31:22] Speaker 1: of them to like get down on the ground, and
[31:25] Speaker 1: this other kid kept like coming at me with like
[31:27] Speaker 1: giving me a wet willie and like grabbing, grabbing me,
[31:30] Speaker 1: and I just went, thank you.
[31:34] Speaker 2: The stomach is hard to eric.
[31:35] Speaker 5: That's when you got to turn black and start beating
[31:37] Speaker 5: these white kids' asses.
[31:40] Speaker 2: I punched them. I was like, it was primal rage.
[31:44] Speaker 4: I was just like.
[31:48] Speaker 2: I punched him in the stomach as hard as I could,
[31:50] Speaker 2: and he went oh. Then he looked up at me
[31:52] Speaker 2: and he went.
[31:53] Speaker 1: Yeah, like he loved it. And then I crawled back
[31:57] Speaker 1: to the stage and I was like, I'm never a
[31:58] Speaker 1: crowd certain. It was the first thirty seconds of the
[32:01] Speaker 1: first show of my tour, like.
[32:03] Speaker 5: I gotta chase my whole I've been finding some cinga
[32:08] Speaker 5: I gotta Yeah.
[32:11] Speaker 1: It was crazy and that's what kind of what Hamil said.
[32:13] Speaker 1: Hannil was like, and I was like, you created this
[32:16] Speaker 1: life for yourself.
[32:18] Speaker 4: I was just saying, like, that's what you'll.
[32:19] Speaker 2: Ask He said, you created this.
[32:24] Speaker 5: Hendy black person's gonna be like, that's to get for
[32:26] Speaker 5: playing the white people games.
