[0:01] Speaker 1: Do you not know that in a race all the
[0:03] Speaker 1: runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in
[0:06] Speaker 1: such a way as to get the prize. 1 Corinthians
[0:10] Speaker 1: 9.24 Dear Lord, help us to live our lives intentionally,
[0:15] Speaker 1: disciplined and focused, mindful that our earthly journey is akin
[0:19] Speaker 1: to a race that requires our best effort. Guide us
[0:23] Speaker 1: to prioritize what is eternal, to strive for the prize
[0:26] Speaker 1: that doesn't perish but lasts forever, our relationship with you.
[0:30] Speaker 1: our Lord and Savior. Grant us the strength and endurance
[0:34] Speaker 1: to face the challenges and obstacles that come our way,
[0:37] Speaker 1: always keeping our eyes fixed on the heavenly prize. Lord,
[0:40] Speaker 1: when we deter our attention away from you, would you
[0:43] Speaker 1: bring us back to your glory, to your majesty, your righteousness,
[0:47] Speaker 1: and your word. May we not be distracted by the
[0:50] Speaker 1: temporary things that can easily weigh us down, but rather
[0:54] Speaker 1: empower us to run the race with perseverance and purpose,
[0:58] Speaker 1: ultimately wanting to glorify you Thank you for giving us
[1:01] Speaker 1: the stamina and the spirit we need to keep running
[1:04] Speaker 1: the race that you set before us. When we stumble
[1:06] Speaker 1: and fall, lift us up. We know that in all things,
[1:10] Speaker 1: you are going to strengthen us. In Jesus' mighty name
[1:14] Speaker 1: we pray. Amen. Welcome to Pre-News, where hope is our
[1:19] Speaker 1: only bias. Today's good news at a glance. Nebraska's women
[1:23] Speaker 1: volleyball team hosted the most attended women's sporting event in history.
[1:28] Speaker 1: And India leads a $ 7 billion green initiative. And lastly,
[1:32] Speaker 1: we revisit our favorite good news story of the week.
[1:35] Speaker 1: It's Good News Weekend, and we always like to take
[1:37] Speaker 1: the weekend to highlight stories of hope, positive change, and milestones.
[1:41] Speaker 1: There's plenty of sad and bad news out there, and
[1:44] Speaker 1: those are important to cover. We don't want to bury
[1:46] Speaker 1: our heads in the sand and ignorantly only think about
[1:48] Speaker 1: positive things. We know that this world has brokenness, but
[1:52] Speaker 1: we also need to recognize that there are still moments
[1:54] Speaker 1: of triumph, joy, and beauty out there to behold. It's
[1:58] Speaker 1: our earnest prayer that as we consider the good news
[2:00] Speaker 1: of Jesus, we would actually make good news in our communities.
[2:05] Speaker 1: If you've enjoyed this take on the news and have
[2:07] Speaker 1: found Pray News to be a blessing, consider sharing it
[2:10] Speaker 1: with a friend. We want everyone to be impacted by
[2:13] Speaker 1: this type of news. Before we get to today's first
[2:16] Speaker 1: good news story, let's hear a word from these sponsors.
[2:20] Speaker 1: Our first story of today is out of Lincoln, Nebraska.
[2:22] Speaker 1: In a sport often dominated by towering spikes and ferocious blocks,
[2:26] Speaker 1: it's the crowd that set a world record this week.
[2:30] Speaker 1: Welcome to Volleyball Day in Nebraska, where 92,003 fans came
[2:35] Speaker 1: together to not just cheer their home team, but also
[2:39] Speaker 1: rewrite the annals of women's sports history. On a day
[2:43] Speaker 1: filled with anticipation, the Nebraska volleyball team vanquished Omaha in
[2:47] Speaker 1: a 3-0 sweep, sending ripples through the red-clad stadium and
[2:51] Speaker 1: far beyond. Forget about the Rose Bowl Women's World Cup
[2:54] Speaker 1: final in 1999, which drew 90,185 fans. Nebraska just bumped
[3:00] Speaker 1: up the game, breaking the previous world record just set
[3:03] Speaker 1: earlier this year of 91,648 attendees at the World Cup.
[3:08] Speaker 1: These numbers aren't just digits. They're declarative statements on the
[3:12] Speaker 1: growth and commercial viability of women's sports. There is a
[3:15] Speaker 1: great business case and strategy around women's athletics long-term, said
[3:19] Speaker 1: Nebraska Athletic Director and former Huskers football star Trev Alberts.
[3:23] Speaker 1: With tickets initially priced at a modest $ 25 for adults,
[3:26] Speaker 1: the resale market saw prices soar up to $ 400 a ticket,
[3:30] Speaker 1: a testament to the skyrocketing demand. In the economics of sports,
[3:34] Speaker 1: the consumer has spoken. Women's games are not just an undercard,
[3:38] Speaker 1: but a main event. The Nebraska faithful weren't just there
[3:42] Speaker 1: to shatter records. They were invested in a program and
[3:45] Speaker 1: a sport that has become part of the state's DNA.
[3:49] Speaker 1: As middle blocker Andy Jackson described, we were walking out
[3:52] Speaker 1: of the tunnel after the second set, and we heard
[3:55] Speaker 1: on the speaker we had just broken the world record.
[3:58] Speaker 1: Everyone was trying to stay locked in, but we were
[4:00] Speaker 1: also so excited. I can't describe how grateful I am
[4:03] Speaker 1: to be a part of it. Lexi Rodriguez, a junior
[4:06] Speaker 1: player for Nebraska, spoke to the next generation. When you're little,
[4:10] Speaker 1: You have big dreams and big goals. Having this to
[4:13] Speaker 1: look up to is something that a lot of little
[4:15] Speaker 1: girls will keep in the back of their mind when
[4:17] Speaker 1: they're pursuing the sport of volleyball. Coach John Cook, who
[4:21] Speaker 1: had been with the Huskers since 2000, stated that he
[4:24] Speaker 1: shed tears at least five times during the event. It's
[4:27] Speaker 1: so huge for little girls to get to see a
[4:30] Speaker 1: women's sport being played on the big stage, said Rodriguez.
[4:35] Speaker 1: The grand spectacle was not without its quirks though. Amid
[4:39] Speaker 1: the cheers and adrenaline, players had to adapt to outdoor
[4:42] Speaker 1: conditions like wind, depth perception, and unfamiliar terrains. This is
[4:46] Speaker 1: an indoor sport, but they had to play in a
[4:47] Speaker 1: huge outdoor stadium. Think about having all of your games
[4:51] Speaker 1: in a closed gymnasium your whole life. But the most
[4:53] Speaker 1: important game of your life is played in an outdoor
[4:56] Speaker 1: stadium with a few thousand shy of 100,000 people. But
[5:00] Speaker 1: nothing could dampen the spirits of the crowd, the players,
[5:02] Speaker 1: and the entire state of Nebraska. As the game ended,
[5:06] Speaker 1: a drone presentation lit up. 92,003 people next to the
[5:10] Speaker 1: stadium's giant video screen, cementing this historic day into the
[5:14] Speaker 1: memories of all attendees. As the stands emptied and the
[5:19] Speaker 1: stadium lights dimmed, it's easy to draw parallels between the
[5:22] Speaker 1: vibrant world of sports and our faith in Jesus. Like
[5:26] Speaker 1: in sports, achieving milestones in our faith journey requires diligence, commitment,
[5:30] Speaker 1: and community. Community cheering us on and lifting us up.
[5:34] Speaker 1: Both realms celebrate the pursuit of excellence, not just for
[5:37] Speaker 1: personal glory, but for the collective upliftment of all. Paul
[5:41] Speaker 1: writes in 1 Corinthians 9.24, Do you not know that
[5:44] Speaker 1: in a race all runners run, but only one gets
[5:46] Speaker 1: the prize? Run in such a way as to get
[5:48] Speaker 1: the prize. The Nebraska volleyball team and the sea of
[5:52] Speaker 1: supporters remind us that we too are in a race.
[5:55] Speaker 1: A race not for fleeting worldly records, but for eternal glory.
[5:58] Speaker 1: When we run the race of our faith, may we
[6:00] Speaker 1: do so as people who are wanting to win. people
[6:03] Speaker 1: who are diligently pursuing excellence just like this volleyball team.
[6:07] Speaker 1: In a world where women athletes continually strive for equal footing,
[6:11] Speaker 1: this unprecedented event is a testament to what can be
[6:13] Speaker 1: achieved when passion, talent, and community converge into one. Just
[6:17] Speaker 1: as the volleyball soars over the net, let us aim
[6:19] Speaker 1: for greater heights in our faith, buoyed by the joy
[6:22] Speaker 1: and support of our community. Here's to running the good race,
[6:25] Speaker 1: both on the court and in our walk with Christ. Cheers, Nebraska,
[6:29] Speaker 1: for setting an example that we can all look up to.
[6:32] Speaker 1: So let's end the story in prayer. Heavenly Father, we
[6:34] Speaker 1: thank you for the talent and community spirit displayed at
[6:37] Speaker 1: this groundbreaking event in Nebraska. We pray that just as
[6:41] Speaker 1: athletes strive for excellence on the court, we too may
[6:43] Speaker 1: strive for spiritual excellence in our walk with you. And
[6:46] Speaker 1: even when we stumble, we know that you are there
[6:48] Speaker 1: to lift us up and we have a community of
[6:50] Speaker 1: people around us to support. May the milestone inspire young
[6:54] Speaker 1: girls and women around the world to aim high. And
[6:56] Speaker 1: may we all be encouraged to run the race set
[6:58] Speaker 1: before us for your glory and your glory alone. In Jesus' name, amen.
[7:04] Speaker 1: Our second story today is also a milestone in clean
[7:07] Speaker 1: energy initiatives. Last week, a breath of fresh air wafted
[7:10] Speaker 1: across India as the federal government greenlit a gargantuan plan
[7:14] Speaker 1: to combat air pollution in the country. Pledging close to
[7:17] Speaker 1: $ 7 billion, the government aims to replace fossil fuel-consuming buses
[7:21] Speaker 1: with 10,000 electric buses across 170 cities. That's right, 10,000 buses!
[7:27] Speaker 1: Enough buses to fill several of the Nebraska volleyball team's stadium.
[7:32] Speaker 1: Information Minister Anurag Thakur stated in a briefing that the
[7:36] Speaker 1: ambitious plan aims to improve the poor air quality levels
[7:40] Speaker 1: in India's cities, largely attributed to vehicle emissions. With the
[7:43] Speaker 1: induction of electric buses, the government believes it will also
[7:47] Speaker 1: reduce the national carbon footprint. which is a victory for
[7:50] Speaker 1: the world, really. The wheels were set in motion by
[7:52] Speaker 1: Prime Minister Modi, who turned the growing demand for electric
[7:55] Speaker 1: buses into a centralized project, inviting companies to bid for
[7:59] Speaker 1: government contracts. So we have free market capitalism at work
[8:02] Speaker 1: as well. The project will also ensure the creation of
[8:05] Speaker 1: the essential charging infrastructure. It appears that electric is not
[8:09] Speaker 1: just a fad, it's the future, and India is stepping
[8:11] Speaker 1: up to lead the charge, just as they did so
[8:14] Speaker 1: by landing on the south pole of the moon just
[8:16] Speaker 1: a few weeks earlier. India isn't alone in embracing this
[8:19] Speaker 1: green revolution. Stateside, a $ 1. 7 billion allocation from the 2021
[8:24] Speaker 1: infrastructure fund signed by President Joe Biden will support the
[8:28] Speaker 1: manufacturing and purchase of 1,700 electric or low-emission buses across
[8:32] Speaker 1: 46 states. The Department of Transportation has further received proposals
[8:37] Speaker 1: for $ 8 billion for electrifying America's roadways and plans to
[8:41] Speaker 1: award cities with $ 5 billion in electric transit infrastructure grants
[8:45] Speaker 1: in the coming years. Now, there's still a lot of
[8:48] Speaker 1: logistics to consider with the EV revolution, though. Electricity doesn't
[8:52] Speaker 1: just appear out of thin air. You need a lot
[8:54] Speaker 1: of infrastructure to create that. Building the right infrastructure to
[8:57] Speaker 1: support such initiatives are still in question by engineering and
[9:01] Speaker 1: energy experts alike. And it continues to be a hotly
[9:03] Speaker 1: debated topic in Congress. Historically, economic growth and environmental conservation
[9:08] Speaker 1: have often been considered mutually exclusive. However, initiatives like this
[9:12] Speaker 1: prove otherwise. Besides the obvious ecological benefits, electric buses offer
[9:17] Speaker 1: a viable business case as well. The funding allocated for
[9:20] Speaker 1: this project creates an opportunity for manufacturers, employers, and a
[9:24] Speaker 1: workforce for installation and maintenance, and has the potential to
[9:28] Speaker 1: become a long-term, sustainable model. It's a win-win, where financial
[9:32] Speaker 1: profit doesn't come at the planet's expense. The benefits don't
[9:36] Speaker 1: just stop at the environment or the economy, though. These
[9:38] Speaker 1: eco-friendly buses will likely enhance the quality of life for
[9:41] Speaker 1: millions of people. Lower levels of air pollution mean healthier lives, hopefully,
[9:46] Speaker 1: reduced medical expenses, and more public spaces where people can
[9:49] Speaker 1: breathe easily, literally. From a Christian standpoint, the biblical mandate
[9:53] Speaker 1: to be a good steward of the earth in Genesis
[9:56] Speaker 1: 1.28 comes to mind. We want to celebrate these positive
[9:59] Speaker 1: strides in environmental conservation. Much like the talent parable, we're
[10:03] Speaker 1: entrusted with this earth, and it's our duty to cultivate
[10:06] Speaker 1: it wisely. What are we doing with what God has
[10:08] Speaker 1: given us? God gives us this earth's resources, but it's
[10:11] Speaker 1: up to us to use them responsibly and sustainably. Through
[10:14] Speaker 1: projects like these, we're sowing seeds of sustainability for future generations.
[10:18] Speaker 1: Air pollution is a Goliath of a problem, but just
[10:21] Speaker 1: like David, sometimes all it takes is a well-aimed stone,
[10:23] Speaker 1: or in this case, a well-planned project. And when we
[10:26] Speaker 1: step up as stewards of the earth, we're not just
[10:28] Speaker 1: fulfilling a biblical duty, but we're also nurturing God's creation
[10:31] Speaker 1: for the present and future generations. So next time when
[10:35] Speaker 1: you board an electric bus or witness one zipping by
[10:38] Speaker 1: your city, take a moment to appreciate how each little
[10:40] Speaker 1: step we take counts in the grand scheme of things.
[10:43] Speaker 1: It's a testament that when we come together, Great strides
[10:46] Speaker 1: are possible, both in faith and in preserving God's magnificent creation.
[10:50] Speaker 1: So with all that being said, let's lift this story
[10:52] Speaker 1: up in prayer. Heavenly Father, we thank you for the
[10:55] Speaker 1: wisdom and initiative to care for your creation. May this
[10:58] Speaker 1: ambitious plan to fight air pollution in India serve as
[11:01] Speaker 1: an example for nations worldwide, reminding us that our responsibility
[11:05] Speaker 1: is to be a good steward of this earth. You've
[11:07] Speaker 1: entrusted us with great blessings, and with those blessings come responsibilities.
[11:12] Speaker 1: Bless the endeavors to make this project successful, improve the
[11:15] Speaker 1: health of millions, and to protect the environment for future generations.
[11:18] Speaker 1: We trust you for all these things, Lord. Give us
[11:20] Speaker 1: wisdom and tact. In Jesus' name, amen. Our final good
[11:24] Speaker 1: news story of the weekend is a flashback from last week,
[11:27] Speaker 1: where Jamie did an amazing job unpacking some of what's
[11:30] Speaker 1: happening in Maui.
[11:34] Speaker 2: Our final story shares about how Operation Blessing is extending
[11:38] Speaker 2: a helping hand to Maui's fire survivors. In the wake
[11:43] Speaker 2: of the devastating wildfire that tore through Maui, leaving destruction
[11:47] Speaker 2: and despair in its wake, Operation Blessing and Harvest Kumulani
[11:52] Speaker 2: have emerged as beacons of hope and support for survivors.
[11:56] Speaker 2: As the death toll rises to 115, with hundreds more
[12:00] Speaker 2: still uncounted for, the true spirit of Christian compassion and
[12:05] Speaker 2: unity shines through, bringing aid and solace to those affected.
[12:10] Speaker 2: CBN News embarked on a journey to Lahaina to witness
[12:14] Speaker 2: firsthand the incredible effects being made by Christians to assist
[12:18] Speaker 2: survivors in their path to recovery. The charred remnants and
[12:22] Speaker 2: the lingering scent of smoke serve as somber reminders of
[12:26] Speaker 2: the tragedy that unfolded. Yet, amidst the ruins, stories of resilience, kindness,
[12:32] Speaker 2: and faith are emerging, showing the remarkable power of love
[12:36] Speaker 2: in times of crisis. One survivor, Iha Avedo shared his
[12:42] Speaker 2: harrowing experience of escaping the fire. He recounted the moment
[12:46] Speaker 2: he opened his door, only to be met with a
[12:49] Speaker 2: wall of black smoke. Iha and his two teenage sons
[12:53] Speaker 2: lost everything in the blaze, including their precious possessions, such
[12:57] Speaker 2: as their fishing gear. Fishing wasn't just a hobby for Iha.
[13:01] Speaker 2: It was a way of life he had passed on
[13:03] Speaker 2: to his sons. Amid his loss, Operation Blessing reached out
[13:08] Speaker 2: with new fishing equipment. fishing poles, spears, fins, and masks.
[13:13] Speaker 2: This gesture provided practical assistance and restored a sense of
[13:17] Speaker 2: normalcy and hope to Iha's life. It gives us a
[13:20] Speaker 2: sense of normalcy again, he expressed, highlighting the profound impact
[13:25] Speaker 2: of compassionate outreach. Harvest Christian Fellowship Pastor Greg Laurie, during
[13:32] Speaker 2: his visit to Harvest Kumulani on Maui, reflected on the
[13:35] Speaker 2: significance of the church's role in times of crisis. Pastor
[13:39] Speaker 2: Greg emphasized the church's responsibility to be present for the
[13:43] Speaker 2: community during such challenging moments. He conveyed his belief in
[13:47] Speaker 2: the resilience of people of Maui and the importance of
[13:51] Speaker 2: nurturing hope in adversity. The church is here for such
[13:54] Speaker 2: a time as this, he stated, noting that hope often
[13:58] Speaker 2: flourishes during challenges. He spoke of the collective effort of
[14:02] Speaker 2: believers and the church's outreach to help bring hope to
[14:05] Speaker 2: the people of Maui. Christian Unity has taken on many forms,
[14:10] Speaker 2: such as the compassionate outreach of Kumilani Chapel members David
[14:14] Speaker 2: and Christiane Mello. As owners of Round Table Pizza in Lahaina,
[14:19] Speaker 2: the Mellos have offered free pizza and prayers to those
[14:22] Speaker 2: impacted by the fire. Their kindness, coupled with heartfelt prayers,
[14:27] Speaker 2: is a testament to the profound impact that individuals can
[14:30] Speaker 2: have on their community. David Mello expressed their intention to
[14:35] Speaker 2: bless everyone who visits their establishment, leaving a positive imprint
[14:39] Speaker 2: on their hearts. As we witness the incredible efforts being
[14:44] Speaker 2: made to uplift and restore the lives of those affected
[14:47] Speaker 2: by the devastating fire, let us draw inspiration from their example.
[14:52] Speaker 2: Let us remember the importance of accountability, compassion, and faith
[14:56] Speaker 2: in times of crisis. Ultimately, through collective action, Christians can
[15:01] Speaker 2: bring healing and hope to the darkest circumstances, reflecting Christ's
[15:05] Speaker 2: teaching and love to a hurting world. Dear God, we
[15:10] Speaker 2: lift up the survivors of the devastating wildfire in Maui.
[15:14] Speaker 2: We thank you for the compassion and unity shown by
[15:17] Speaker 2: organizations like Operation Blessing, Harvest Kumilani, and individuals like The Mellows.
[15:24] Speaker 2: May their efforts bring comfort, healing, and hope to those
[15:27] Speaker 2: affected by the tragedy. We pray for strength and resilience
[15:31] Speaker 2: for the survivors as they navigate the challenges ahead. Let
[15:35] Speaker 2: their stories inspire us to extend compassion and love to
[15:38] Speaker 2: those in need, reflecting your light in times of darkness.
[15:42] Speaker 2: In Jesus' name, amen.
