[1:10] Speaker 3: Not by bread alone. In our last story, Jesus was
[1:15] Speaker 3: able to feed over 5,000 people from five loaves of
[1:19] Speaker 3: bread and two fish and then also walk on water,
[1:24] Speaker 3: calling out to Peter to join him. In this story,
[1:28] Speaker 3: Jesus will teach how he is the bread of life
[1:32] Speaker 3: and heal a Gentile woman's daughter, as inspired by the Gospels.
[1:40] Speaker 1: Hi, everyone. It's Julianne Thompson, guest hosting for Julia Jeffress Sadler,
[1:45] Speaker 1: back for another story from the Kids Bible in a
[1:48] Speaker 1: Year podcast. We are talking today about the bread of life,
[1:53] Speaker 1: the only thing that can fill us up inside. I
[1:57] Speaker 1: think you're going to love this Jesus story. Here it is.
[2:03] Speaker 3: Jesus and his disciples got in a boat and the
[2:06] Speaker 3: crowd of people were not able to find them. So
[2:10] Speaker 3: all the people went in search of them and found
[2:12] Speaker 3: them in Capernaum. When they found them, they asked, How
[2:18] Speaker 3: long ago did you get here? Jesus replied, You were
[2:22] Speaker 3: looking for me, but not because of the miracles. and
[2:25] Speaker 3: the food that continued to multiply. Do not focus on
[2:30] Speaker 3: food that will one day go bad, but look for
[2:32] Speaker 3: food that will last forever. That is the bread that
[2:36] Speaker 3: the Son of Man can give to you because God
[2:39] Speaker 3: his Father approved it. They asked, How can we find
[2:44] Speaker 3: this bread that lasts forever? Jesus said, You will have
[2:49] Speaker 3: to believe in the one that he has sent. They asked,
[2:53] Speaker 3: How will we know Will there be a sign? Our
[2:56] Speaker 3: family received bread from heaven in the wilderness. He replied,
[3:02] Speaker 3: My father will give you this bread from heaven that
[3:04] Speaker 3: gives life. The one who believes will receive this bread
[3:08] Speaker 3: and have eternal life. I am the bread of life
[3:13] Speaker 3: that God has sent to you. The crowd was confused
[3:17] Speaker 3: and they questioned, How can his flesh be the bread
[3:21] Speaker 3: sent to us? Jesus said, My flesh is the bread
[3:26] Speaker 3: and my blood is the drink offered to you. Anyone
[3:30] Speaker 3: who accepts this will remain in me and I in them.
[3:34] Speaker 3: Your family died from eating bread in the wilderness, but
[3:37] Speaker 3: the bread I offer will help you to live forever.
[3:41] Speaker 3: My father sent me and I live because of him.
[3:46] Speaker 3: The disciples did not truly understand all that Jesus was
[3:50] Speaker 3: saying to the crowd. So Jesus asked them, Are you
[3:54] Speaker 3: upset at what was said? What I said was full
[3:58] Speaker 3: of life and truth. No one can come to me
[4:01] Speaker 3: unless my Father allows it. Many have turned from me.
[4:05] Speaker 3: Do any of you want to as well? Peter answered,
[4:10] Speaker 3: Where would we go? We believe you and know that
[4:13] Speaker 3: you are the Son of God. Jesus said, I have
[4:17] Speaker 3: chosen the twelve of you, but one of you will
[4:21] Speaker 3: betray me. A little later, Jesus went to a house
[4:26] Speaker 3: and tried to stay hidden. But a woman, whose daughter
[4:29] Speaker 3: was possessed, found him and fell down at his feet.
[4:33] Speaker 3: She begged Jesus to cast the demon out from her daughter.
[4:37] Speaker 3: He said, She said, Because of her reply, Jesus told her, Go.
[4:53] Speaker 3: The demon left your daughter. When she went home, her
[4:57] Speaker 3: daughter was there, and the demon had left her.
[5:06] Speaker 1: Wow, the bread of life? What is Jesus saying? Let's
[5:12] Speaker 1: talk about what we heard today. All those people on
[5:16] Speaker 1: the hillside saw Jesus multiply that little boy's lunch. And
[5:21] Speaker 1: they weren't about to let him out of their sight.
[5:24] Speaker 1: This was just too miraculous. When they finally found him
[5:29] Speaker 1: and the disciples in Capernaum, Jesus said something so interesting.
[5:34] Speaker 1: You see, he knew the reason they wanted to find
[5:37] Speaker 1: him was because he gave them food when they were hungry.
[5:41] Speaker 1: He made bread appear out of nowhere and it satisfied them.
[5:46] Speaker 1: But Jesus didn't want to just stop there. He told
[5:50] Speaker 1: these people that he had something much better than food
[5:53] Speaker 1: that you eat. He had the ability to give them
[5:56] Speaker 1: life forever in heaven. And not just that, but a
[6:01] Speaker 1: life full of love and peace on earth right in
[6:04] Speaker 1: this very moment. He said, I am the bread of life.
[6:08] Speaker 1: And if you take this bread, you will live with
[6:11] Speaker 1: me forever. I will be in you and you be
[6:14] Speaker 1: in me. What a great promise. although some still didn't understand.
[6:21] Speaker 1: Jesus would show them soon enough by giving up his
[6:24] Speaker 1: body and dying a terrible death on a cross. His
[6:29] Speaker 1: body represents the bread that he gives to us. Now, wait,
[6:35] Speaker 1: this doesn't mean that Jesus' body was actually made of bread,
[6:39] Speaker 1: does it? No, it doesn't. But the body of Jesus
[6:43] Speaker 1: that suffered and died gives us what we need. The
[6:47] Speaker 1: forgiveness of our sins. Just like bread gives us what
[6:51] Speaker 1: we need and satisfies our hunger. Jesus is saying that
[6:55] Speaker 1: he gives us life. But more than we are living
[6:59] Speaker 1: right now. Life that lasts forever and life filled with
[7:03] Speaker 1: love and peace. Then we heard Jesus ask his disciples
[7:09] Speaker 1: if they were going to desert him. I love what
[7:12] Speaker 1: Peter said. Lord, if we did, where would we go?
[7:16] Speaker 1: In other words, you are the only one that can
[7:19] Speaker 1: give us life. You are the son of the living God,
[7:23] Speaker 1: and we only want to be with you. It must
[7:27] Speaker 1: have made Jesus so happy hearing Peter say the words,
[7:30] Speaker 1: we believe in you, Lord, because so many others didn't.
[7:35] Speaker 1: Today's story ends with a little girl who was a Gentile.
[7:39] Speaker 1: The mom of this little girl knew she was not
[7:43] Speaker 1: one of God's chosen people, but like others, She went
[7:46] Speaker 1: to Jesus for healing anyways. And like he had done before,
[7:51] Speaker 1: he was happy to help her because of her strong
[7:55] Speaker 1: faith in him. He wasn't worried about where she worshipped
[7:58] Speaker 1: or how many laws she kept. He only cared about
[8:02] Speaker 1: her heart. He cares about your heart and my heart too.
[8:07] Speaker 1: This is a good thing to remember today. It's easy
[8:11] Speaker 1: to look like you obey all the rules, do the
[8:13] Speaker 1: right thing, and have it all together. But God is always,
[8:17] Speaker 1: always looking into our hearts to see what's there. That
[8:21] Speaker 1: just means he cares about what we think about and
[8:24] Speaker 1: what goes on inside of us more than we do
[8:28] Speaker 1: on the outside. Well, that's all for today. Be sure
[8:32] Speaker 1: to come back next time to hear about some living water. Oh,
[8:37] Speaker 1: and those Pharisees trying to trick Jesus again? Don't worry,
[8:41] Speaker 1: it's not going to work out. Remember, the Bible is
[8:45] Speaker 1: the best story ever told. It's God's story to you.
[8:48] Speaker 1: And it's all true. Felt inspired by today's episode? Leave
