[1:07] Speaker 3: In our last story, Hezekiah cried out to the Lord
[1:11] Speaker 3: through the prophet Isaiah, and his people were delivered from Sennacherib.
[1:16] Speaker 3: In this story, Hezekiah will be very sick, but given
[1:20] Speaker 3: 15 more years. His pride blinded him to messengers from Babylon,
[1:26] Speaker 3: to see all that was in the kingdom and in
[1:29] Speaker 3: Hezekiah's palace, as inspired by 2 Kings and 2 Chronicles.
[1:38] Speaker 1: Hi, it's Joya Sadler here. Welcome back to the Kids
[1:40] Speaker 1: Bible in a Year podcast. Today we close the chapter
[1:44] Speaker 1: on the life of Hezekiah, a king we are sure
[1:47] Speaker 1: to remember. And we're going to talk about why he
[1:50] Speaker 1: called God's word good and why we can too. Let's
[1:55] Speaker 1: dive in.
[1:58] Speaker 3: One day, Hezekiah, the king of Israel, became deathly sick.
[2:03] Speaker 3: God spoke to the prophet Isaiah and told him to
[2:06] Speaker 3: go to the king with a message.
[2:08] Speaker 4: He said to the king, God has.
[2:10] Speaker 3: Told me that you will not recover from this illness,
[2:14] Speaker 3: and it will kill you very soon.
[2:16] Speaker 4: Make the preparations for your death.
[2:19] Speaker 3: The king then turned from Isaiah and began to cry bitterly.
[2:23] Speaker 3: He cried out to God, saying, O God, Please.
[2:27] Speaker 4: Don't let me die. I have always walked with you.
[2:30] Speaker 4: I have never served any other gods. I have always
[2:34] Speaker 4: done what was good in your eyes.
[2:37] Speaker 3: Then, because of his prayers to God, Isaiah was stopped
[2:40] Speaker 3: with another message before he could even leave the building.
[2:44] Speaker 3: Isaiah quickly turned around and went back to the king.
[2:48] Speaker 3: God told Isaiah that he had heard Hezekiah's cry. God
[2:54] Speaker 3: has seen your tears, O king. He says that you
[2:57] Speaker 3: will now live 15 more years.
[3:00] Speaker 4: God has said, watch for a sign that I will give.
[3:04] Speaker 3: You to prove that you will recover and live for
[3:07] Speaker 3: those years I have promised.
[3:10] Speaker 4: The shadow on the sundial will.
[3:12] Speaker 3: Move backwards 10 degrees. Hezekiah believed the words of God
[3:18] Speaker 3: and watched the sundial's shadow. Suddenly, the shadow began to
[3:22] Speaker 3: move backwards and moved.
[3:24] Speaker 4: Exactly 10 degrees. as the Word of God spoke.
[3:29] Speaker 3: As he watched and gazed at the wonder that just occurred,
[3:32] Speaker 3: his illness went away and he completely recovered. He was
[3:36] Speaker 3: so happy about his recovery that he began to sing
[3:39] Speaker 3: and worship God right there in his room. Soon after,
[3:43] Speaker 3: representatives from the city of Babylon came to bring the
[3:46] Speaker 3: king gifts.
[3:47] Speaker 4: Due to his recent recovery.
[3:49] Speaker 3: With the gift was a letter that was congratulating the
[3:52] Speaker 3: king for getting better and overcoming his sickness. He was
[3:56] Speaker 3: so happy about receiving the gifts that he gave the
[3:59] Speaker 3: representatives a tour of his palace and all the official
[4:02] Speaker 3: government buildings. He was so excited that he showed them
[4:06] Speaker 3: all the treasures of the nation, including their gold, silver, spices,
[4:11] Speaker 3: and precious oils. Once the representatives of Babylon left town,
[4:16] Speaker 3: the prophet Isaiah came to the king and asked about
[4:19] Speaker 3: the men that came to visit. The king told Isaiah
[4:22] Speaker 3: all about the gifts that they brought him from the
[4:25] Speaker 3: king of Babylon. Isaiah quickly responded, From Babylon? What did
[4:31] Speaker 3: you show them from the city? The king excitedly said, Oh,
[4:35] Speaker 3: I showed them everything. I showed them the palace with
[4:38] Speaker 3: all of the fine things we have here, and I
[4:40] Speaker 3: gave them a tour of all the nation's greatest treasures
[4:43] Speaker 3: like the.
[4:43] Speaker 4: Gold, silver, spices, and precious oils. They were so kind
[4:48] Speaker 4: to me.
[4:48] Speaker 3: What do we have to hide? God has given me
[4:52] Speaker 3: a message for you, said Isaiah. Babylon will cause the
[4:57] Speaker 3: destruction of this city. One day that nation will come
[5:01] Speaker 3: and take over all that you have. Everything that you
[5:04] Speaker 3: showed them today will be carted off from your city
[5:08] Speaker 3: to theirs. Some of your family and future generations will
[5:11] Speaker 3: be taken away from the city to become slaves to
[5:15] Speaker 3: the king of Babylon, whose people you accommodated today. Hezekiah,
[5:20] Speaker 3: now humbled, bowed his head and accepted the words of God, saying,
[5:25] Speaker 3: They are good. He felt burdened for those that would
[5:29] Speaker 3: one day be taken from their home, but he knew
[5:32] Speaker 3: that this would not be before his 15 years were over.
[5:37] Speaker 3: He said, There will be peace in our city until
[5:41] Speaker 3: I die. Hezekiah then lived for the years he was promised,
[5:46] Speaker 3: providing for the people of his city until his son
[5:50] Speaker 3: took over as king.
[5:56] Speaker 1: Okay, this was a lot. Hezekiah is sick when today's
[6:01] Speaker 1: story begins. But after he cries out to God for mercy,
[6:05] Speaker 1: God sees his tears and sadness and takes his sickness away.
[6:11] Speaker 1: This isn't the only time we read about God and
[6:14] Speaker 1: our tears in the Bible. Psalm 56 tells us that
[6:18] Speaker 1: God keeps track of the things we are sad about
[6:22] Speaker 1: and even collects our tears in a bottle. Wow, that
[6:27] Speaker 1: is so special and such a great example of what
[6:31] Speaker 1: a loving father he is. God watched King Hezekiah's faithfulness
[6:36] Speaker 1: to him time and again. And he wanted to bless
[6:40] Speaker 1: him for staying loyal and close to the only true God.
[6:44] Speaker 1: So he gave him 15 more years. Now 15 may
[6:50] Speaker 1: seem like a long time. But once you get to
[6:53] Speaker 1: year 14, it doesn't seem so long anymore. Hezekiah would
[6:57] Speaker 1: soon die and he knew it. But for now, he
[7:01] Speaker 1: was so grateful. that God took away his sickness. He
[7:05] Speaker 1: just wanted to sing and worship him all day long. Next,
[7:10] Speaker 1: our story takes a turn. As we heard, when the
[7:13] Speaker 1: men from Babylon came to bring gifts to Hezekiah, he
[7:17] Speaker 1: wasn't exactly thinking straight. He was so excited to show
[7:21] Speaker 1: off all the treasures of the palace that it didn't
[7:24] Speaker 1: even dawn on him who he was talking to. When
[7:29] Speaker 1: Isaiah found out what he did, he was not too happy.
[7:33] Speaker 1: After hearing another message from God, Isaiah told Hezekiah that
[7:38] Speaker 1: these people from Babylon would take everything he showed them
[7:43] Speaker 1: and even take Hezekiah's own family as slaves. Then Hezekiah
[7:49] Speaker 1: bowed his head and said something interesting. God's words are good.
[7:56] Speaker 1: Now this tells us all we need to know about
[7:59] Speaker 1: King Hezekiah. Even when the message from God meant that
[8:04] Speaker 1: he will lose his people, his land, his possessions, and
[8:09] Speaker 1: even his own family, he still called God's words good.
[8:15] Speaker 1: And we can too. You see, when you know God
[8:19] Speaker 1: for a long time and have walked with him through
[8:22] Speaker 1: good and bad times, something happens. You start to trust him,
[8:29] Speaker 1: really trust him. And no matter what he says in
[8:32] Speaker 1: his word or speaks in your heart, you know it
[8:36] Speaker 1: is right and good because you know that he is
[8:39] Speaker 1: right and good. And after all, you are hearing the
[8:42] Speaker 1: God of the universe speak to you. That's incredible by itself.
[8:48] Speaker 1: Proverbs 35 says it this way. Every word of God
[8:53] Speaker 1: is flawless. He is a shield to those who take
[8:56] Speaker 1: refuge in him. Do you know what a flaw is?
[9:01] Speaker 1: It's a mistake or something that should not be there.
[9:05] Speaker 1: It's a weakness and makes something not perfect. So when
[9:10] Speaker 1: this verse says that every word of God is flawless,
[9:15] Speaker 1: that means that every word is completely perfect, pure, and right.
[9:21] Speaker 1: That's why spending time reading our Bible is such a
[9:25] Speaker 1: wise thing to do. Not only is every word in
[9:29] Speaker 1: your Bible true and good and perfect and right, but
[9:33] Speaker 1: when you read it, you feel peace and become wiser
[9:38] Speaker 1: and more like Jesus. If you remember anything today, remember this.
[9:43] Speaker 1: When you get older, you will look back on your
[9:46] Speaker 1: life and regret some things. You will wish you didn't
[9:49] Speaker 1: say or do certain things. But of course, you will
[9:52] Speaker 1: know that God forgives you. But you will never, ever,
[9:56] Speaker 1: ever regret one minute you spend reading and learning God's word.
[10:03] Speaker 1: So let it be your light, your guide, and your
[10:05] Speaker 1: best friend. Because Hezekiah was right. God's word is good.
[10:11] Speaker 1: Thanks for listening and make sure to come back next
[10:13] Speaker 1: time to hear about another evil king. who was just
[10:16] Speaker 1: like the others, except for one big difference.
[10:21] Speaker 4: Let's say it together.
[10:22] Speaker 1: The Bible is the best story ever told. It's God's
[10:26] Speaker 1: story to you, and it's all true. Had a blast
