[1:14] Speaker 2: Daniel and the King's Dream In our last story, Nebuchadnezzar
[1:20] Speaker 2: besieged Jerusalem and brought young men to Babylon. Daniel and
[1:25] Speaker 2: his friends, while being trained, resolved not to defile themselves
[1:30] Speaker 2: with the king's choice food. In this story, Nebuchadnezzar will
[1:34] Speaker 2: have troubling dreams, and Daniel will help interpret them, as
[1:39] Speaker 2: inspired by Daniel.
[1:44] Speaker 1: Hi there, it's Joya Sadler with the Kids Bible in
[1:47] Speaker 1: the Air podcast. I'm so happy you're here. Today we
[1:51] Speaker 1: get to hear an exciting story about King Nebuchadnezzar's crazy dream.
[1:56] Speaker 1: and what it means for our future. What did he dream?
[1:59] Speaker 1: Let's jump in and find out.
[2:03] Speaker 2: King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that troubled him so much
[2:07] Speaker 2: he couldn't sleep. He went to the counselors for interpretation.
[2:11] Speaker 2: The counselors asked what the dream was. Nebuchadnezzar replied, If
[2:15] Speaker 2: you can tell me what the dream was, I will
[2:18] Speaker 2: give you great rewards. If you do not tell me
[2:21] Speaker 2: what the dream was, I will have your bodies ripped
[2:24] Speaker 2: apart and your property destroyed. The counselors were shocked and
[2:29] Speaker 2: asked again, Please tell us your dream. The king realized
[2:35] Speaker 2: they were stalling and said, You have to recall my dream.
[2:39] Speaker 2: How else will I know that you are not making
[2:42] Speaker 2: up an interpretation? The counselors said in fear, There is
[2:46] Speaker 2: never a king who asked such a request before. This
[2:50] Speaker 2: is too difficult for any man to do. Only the
[2:53] Speaker 2: gods know what the dream was. King Nebuchadnezzar became angry
[2:58] Speaker 2: and ordered all the counselors to be executed. Daniel, whom
[3:03] Speaker 2: God had given the ability to interpret dreams, heard about
[3:06] Speaker 2: the execution and asked the king for time to discover
[3:10] Speaker 2: and interpret the dream. Daniel urged his friends to pray
[3:14] Speaker 2: to God so that they may receive the dream and
[3:17] Speaker 2: its interpretation. That night, God gave a vision to Daniel,
[3:22] Speaker 2: revealing the dream and its meaning. Then Daniel went to
[3:26] Speaker 2: the guard executing the counselors and said, Stop! Take me
[3:30] Speaker 2: to the king so I may interpret his dream. When
[3:33] Speaker 2: Daniel was taken before the king, Nebuchadnezzar asked him, Can
[3:38] Speaker 2: you tell me what I saw and understand it? Daniel said,
[3:43] Speaker 2: No man on earth can do such a thing. But
[3:46] Speaker 2: God has revealed to me from heaven these mysteries. God
[3:50] Speaker 2: has shown you the future through your dream. In your dream,
[3:54] Speaker 2: you saw an enormous, dazzling, and beautiful statue. The statue
[3:58] Speaker 2: had a head of pure gold, arms and a chest
[4:01] Speaker 2: of silver, stomach and thighs made of bronze, legs of iron,
[4:06] Speaker 2: and feet made of partly iron and partly baked clay.
[4:10] Speaker 2: When looking at the statue, a rock not made from
[4:13] Speaker 2: human hands, struck the feet of iron and clay. This
[4:18] Speaker 2: shattered the entire statue into little pieces. The wind blew
[4:23] Speaker 2: all the pieces, and all that was left was the rock.
[4:26] Speaker 2: The rock became a mountain and covered the earth. Here's
[4:31] Speaker 2: the meaning of the dream. Your majesty, you are the
[4:35] Speaker 2: head of gold. It has given power for you to rule.
[4:40] Speaker 2: After your reign, a kingdom will rise that is less
[4:43] Speaker 2: mighty than yours. This is the chest and arms of silver.
[4:47] Speaker 2: The third kingdom is a bronze kingdom that will take
[4:50] Speaker 2: over the world. Then a fourth kingdom will be strong
[4:54] Speaker 2: as iron, for iron destroys everything, and it will crush
[4:58] Speaker 2: everything in its way. After that, a divided kingdom will emerge,
[5:04] Speaker 2: which explains the partly iron and partly baked clay feet.
[5:08] Speaker 2: Some parts are strong like iron and others will be
[5:11] Speaker 2: brittle like clay. This also means that the people will
[5:15] Speaker 2: be mixed and divided like the clay and iron. It
[5:19] Speaker 2: will be during this time of division when God will
[5:22] Speaker 2: bring his kingdom down. This kingdom will never be destroyed
[5:27] Speaker 2: or taken. It is the rock made by God that
[5:30] Speaker 2: crushes all the kingdoms and lasts forever. This dream tells
[5:36] Speaker 2: the future, and God has shown it to the kings.
[5:40] Speaker 2: King Nebuchadnezzar fell before Daniel and said, Your god is
[5:45] Speaker 2: the god of all other gods and the king of kings.
[5:49] Speaker 2: You solved this great mystery for me. He rewarded Daniel
[5:54] Speaker 2: and appointed him as ruler of Babylon.
[6:02] Speaker 1: A big, huge, sparkly statue? A mountain as big as
[6:07] Speaker 1: the world? King Nebuchadnezzar has been having some crazy dreams,
[6:12] Speaker 1: hasn't he? Now you know that dreams can be scary
[6:15] Speaker 1: or silly or even funny. But this dream was special.
[6:19] Speaker 1: God used it to give King Nebuchadnezzar and us a message.
[6:24] Speaker 1: Do you remember this story? Nebuchadnezzar was the most powerful
[6:29] Speaker 1: king in the whole wide world. He and his army
[6:33] Speaker 1: had conquered every nation, including Judah. the land God had
[6:38] Speaker 1: promised his people, and gave the land to the Jews
[6:42] Speaker 1: so he could live with them on earth. He wanted
[6:47] Speaker 1: to lead them as their good king. But even though
[6:50] Speaker 1: God is the best leader ever, his people didn't want
[6:54] Speaker 1: to follow him. They chose to follow fake gods instead. Now,
[6:59] Speaker 1: to follow these fake gods, you had to do bad things.
[7:03] Speaker 1: This made God angry because he loves his people very
[7:07] Speaker 1: much and wants to protect them. So God used King
[7:11] Speaker 1: Nebuchadnezzar to give the Jews a long time out. He
[7:15] Speaker 1: wanted them to understand that they would never find another
[7:19] Speaker 1: God or leader who was bigger, stronger, or who loved
[7:24] Speaker 1: them more than he did. In a way, that's what
[7:27] Speaker 1: Nebuchadnezzar's dream was all about. You see, the king thought
[7:31] Speaker 1: he was the roughest, toughest, mightiest, most powerful person who'd
[7:36] Speaker 1: ever lived. But his dream scared him. So he called
[7:40] Speaker 1: all his wise men and said, I had a dream
[7:43] Speaker 1: and I need to know what it means. Tell me
[7:46] Speaker 1: what I dreamt about. Then I'll know I can trust
[7:50] Speaker 1: you to explain it to me.
[7:53] Speaker 2: What? What?
[7:54] Speaker 1: Could you guess what someone else dreamed about last night? No,
[7:59] Speaker 1: no one can do that. What King Nebuchadnezzar asked was impossible.
[8:05] Speaker 1: But Daniel, a Jew who loved the Lord, knew nothing
[8:09] Speaker 1: was impossible with God. And when Daniel prayed, he asked
[8:14] Speaker 1: God about the king's dream, and God answered him. You see,
[8:19] Speaker 1: in the king's dream, he saw a big, huge, sparkly
[8:23] Speaker 1: statue with a gold head, silver chest and arms, bronze belly,
[8:29] Speaker 1: iron legs, and feet with toes of iron and clay.
[8:34] Speaker 1: And through Daniel, God told Nebuchadnezzar that one day his
[8:39] Speaker 1: great kingdom of Babylon would fall. And each of the
[8:43] Speaker 1: medals on the statue represented a different kingdom that would follow.
[8:49] Speaker 1: Just as God said, years later, Babylon was conquered by
[8:53] Speaker 1: the Medes and the Persians. And they were conquered by
[8:56] Speaker 1: the Greeks. And they were conquered by the Romans. And
[9:01] Speaker 1: each of those kings thought he was the roughest, toughest, mightiest,
[9:05] Speaker 1: most powerful person who'd ever lived. Just like Nebuchadnezzar. But
[9:10] Speaker 1: they were all wrong. Because also in the dream, a rock,
[9:15] Speaker 1: not cut by human hands, struck the statue and poof,
[9:20] Speaker 1: the whole statue crumbled into dust and blew away. But
[9:24] Speaker 1: the rock grew and grew into a mountain that filled
[9:27] Speaker 1: the whole world. God was letting us know that people
[9:31] Speaker 1: who think they're in power are like that statue. Everything
[9:36] Speaker 1: they build will one day just poof, crumble and blow away.
[9:41] Speaker 1: Like every other kingdom. But God's kingdom is like a
[9:45] Speaker 1: rock that will last forever. It will never crumble or
[9:48] Speaker 1: blow away. Someday it will fill the whole world. God
[9:53] Speaker 1: wanted King Nebuchadnezzar to know that he was not the roughest, toughest, mightiest,
[9:58] Speaker 1: most powerful person. who'd ever lived. And neither was any
[10:03] Speaker 1: other king. Those leaders only had power because God, the
[10:07] Speaker 1: true king, allowed it and would do something wonderful through it.
[10:13] Speaker 1: And only one king, Jesus, is the true rock. There's
[10:18] Speaker 1: no other God or leader who is bigger, stronger, or
[10:21] Speaker 1: who loves you more than he does. Anyone can think
[10:25] Speaker 1: they're in charge, but God is the one who's really
[10:28] Speaker 1: in charge, and you can trust him. I'm so glad
[10:32] Speaker 1: you joined me for today's story. Come back next time
