[1:14] Speaker 3: Solomon's Fall from God In our last story, Solomon built
[1:20] Speaker 3: the temple and made it absolutely beautiful. In this story,
[1:26] Speaker 3: after hearing so many reports about Solomon, The Queen of
[1:29] Speaker 3: Sheba will come and visit to test Solomon. Also, we
[1:35] Speaker 3: will learn how Solomon's heart will become divided, as inspired
[1:40] Speaker 3: by 1 Kings and 2 Chronicles. Hi, friends.
[1:47] Speaker 1: It's Joya Sadler here for another story from God's Word.
[1:52] Speaker 1: Thanks for being here for the Kids Bible in a
[1:55] Speaker 1: Year podcast.
[1:57] Speaker 3: Okay.
[1:57] Speaker 1: So I have some bad news and I have some
[2:00] Speaker 1: good news. The bad news is that Solomon's heart turns
[2:04] Speaker 1: away from God in today's story. The good news is
[2:08] Speaker 1: you and I can learn a lot from his mistake.
[2:13] Speaker 1: So let's listen in and see why the wisest man
[2:17] Speaker 1: in the whole world, King Solomon, isn't so wise anymore.
[2:26] Speaker 3: There was a nation called Sheba, and the queen had
[2:29] Speaker 3: heard about Solomon's fame. The queen was interested in seeing
[2:34] Speaker 3: if everything she heard about Solomon was true. She also
[2:38] Speaker 3: knew that he worked closely with God, and she wanted
[2:41] Speaker 3: to ask difficult questions to see if Solomon was the
[2:45] Speaker 3: wisest man ever. She left to go to Jerusalem, the
[2:49] Speaker 3: capital city of Israel, with many servants and a high
[2:53] Speaker 3: number of presents. spices, precious stones, and gold. When the
[2:58] Speaker 3: Queen of Sheba arrived, she began to ask King Solomon
[3:02] Speaker 3: her list of difficult questions. No matter how hard her
[3:06] Speaker 3: question was, Solomon was able to answer and explain it. Eventually,
[3:11] Speaker 3: the Queen ran out of questions because Solomon answered them all.
[3:15] Speaker 3: She was amazed at Solomon's wisdom, and she was overwhelmed
[3:20] Speaker 3: by the beauty of his kingdom. She noticed that everything
[3:24] Speaker 3: including his servants, his palace, and the temple, were all
[3:29] Speaker 3: unlike anything she had ever seen before. She said to Solomon,
[3:34] Speaker 3: The rumors about you are true. Now that I have
[3:37] Speaker 3: seen it for myself, I do believe. How happy everyone
[3:41] Speaker 3: must be, and how delighted God must be with you, Solomon.
[3:46] Speaker 3: Praise God! The queen gave Solomon all the gifts she brought,
[3:51] Speaker 3: and Solomon gave her everything and anything she desired. Then
[3:56] Speaker 3: she returned home with her servants. Every year, Solomon was
[4:01] Speaker 3: receiving large amounts of gold through trading and selling.
[4:04] Speaker 2: He also received gold as a gift every year.
[4:08] Speaker 3: Solomon made everything that he could with gold, or put
[4:12] Speaker 3: gold in it or on it, such as his palace. weapons, clothing,
[4:16] Speaker 3: and many more things. Solomon had so much gold that
[4:21] Speaker 3: silver became worthless. King Solomon was the richest and wisest king,
[4:27] Speaker 3: and every year people came to learn from the wisdom
[4:30] Speaker 3: that God had given him. Everyone who visited him would
[4:34] Speaker 3: bring a gift. Solomon had a weakness, though. Solomon had
[4:39] Speaker 3: a wife, but Solomon also loved many other women. These
[4:45] Speaker 3: other women did not worship or follow God. These other
[4:49] Speaker 3: women believed in false gods and did terrible things. God
[4:54] Speaker 3: had warned the people of Israel not to marry these
[4:57] Speaker 3: other people because those people would convince Israel to follow
[5:01] Speaker 3: the false gods. Despite God's warning, Solomon loved the other women.
[5:07] Speaker 3: He married 700 other women and had 300 concubines, which
[5:13] Speaker 3: are mistresses. As Solomon grew older, his wives kept leading
[5:18] Speaker 3: him further away from God. They convinced Solomon to follow
[5:23] Speaker 3: their gods and to build altars for their gods. When
[5:29] Speaker 3: Solomon obeyed his wives, God was displeased with the evil
[5:33] Speaker 3: Solomon committed. Eventually, God became angry with Solomon because Solomon
[5:39] Speaker 3: stopped following and obeying God. God had appeared to Solomon twice,
[5:44] Speaker 3: and had helped Solomon as a king. Sadly, Solomon's heart
[5:49] Speaker 3: and love were not for God anymore. God said to Solomon,
[5:55] Speaker 3: Because you have disobeyed me, and you have stopped following
[5:58] Speaker 3: your father's way, your kingdom will be torn apart. You
[6:03] Speaker 3: are following false gods, marrying multiple women, and you have
[6:07] Speaker 3: not followed your father's advice. Only a small part of
[6:12] Speaker 3: the kingdom will remain because of the promise I made
[6:16] Speaker 3: David your father. Because Solomon fell from God, there was
[6:22] Speaker 3: no longer protection from God. Israel's enemies rose up against Solomon,
[6:28] Speaker 3: and there was no longer peace in Israel. Solomon tried
[6:32] Speaker 3: killing and defeating some of his enemies, but they fled.
[6:36] Speaker 3: His enemies hid until Solomon died. When Solomon passed away,
[6:41] Speaker 3: he was buried in Jerusalem. Solomon's son, Rehoboam, became the
[6:47] Speaker 3: new king of Israel.
[6:54] Speaker 1: Oh no, here we go again. As you can tell,
[6:58] Speaker 1: things have changed since we were last together. Today's story
[7:03] Speaker 1: opens with a queen visiting Jerusalem to see if everything
[7:08] Speaker 1: she had heard about King Solomon was true. Did he
[7:12] Speaker 1: actually have that much gold? Was the kingdom really that beautiful?
[7:18] Speaker 1: And most importantly, was he truly the wisest king to
[7:22] Speaker 1: ever live? After investigating, she found out the answer was
[7:27] Speaker 1: a big, loud yes. And she wasn't the only one.
[7:32] Speaker 1: The Bible tells us that many kings came to learn
[7:36] Speaker 1: from Solomon's wisdom and brought him costly gifts and treasures.
[7:42] Speaker 1: Pretty much every minute someone was telling Solomon how amazing
[7:46] Speaker 1: he was. But here's the problem. When people always tell
[7:51] Speaker 1: you how great you are, how wise you are, and
[7:54] Speaker 1: how much you deserve nice things, it becomes very hard
[7:59] Speaker 1: for you to trust God. Do you know why? Because
[8:03] Speaker 1: you start to think that you don't really need God.
[8:06] Speaker 1: You begin to think that you have everything inside of
[8:09] Speaker 1: you to do great things and nothing can harm you.
[8:14] Speaker 1: And it seems like that's what happened to Solomon. As
[8:17] Speaker 1: we heard in the story, Solomon had a wife he loved.
[8:22] Speaker 1: But then he started loving other women too. Bad idea
[8:26] Speaker 1: number one. But then what made things even worse was
[8:31] Speaker 1: that these women worshipped false gods and idols, which God
[8:36] Speaker 1: warned his people against many times. And even though Solomon
[8:41] Speaker 1: knew God wanted him to stay away from these women
[8:45] Speaker 1: who worshipped false gods, he was feeling so big and
[8:50] Speaker 1: important that he decided he could start making his own rules. Now,
[8:55] Speaker 1: I am quite sure you've learned by now When we
[8:58] Speaker 1: stop doing things God's way and start doing things our way,
[9:03] Speaker 1: it never works out well. Once these women convinced Solomon
[9:08] Speaker 1: to worship false gods, his heart started moving further from
[9:13] Speaker 1: the one true God until he was no longer following
[9:17] Speaker 1: him at all. The love in his heart no longer
[9:21] Speaker 1: belonged to God. And if you remember, God had been
[9:25] Speaker 1: telling Solomon all along That as long as he kept
[9:29] Speaker 1: obeying and following him, he would keep blessing Solomon. But
[9:35] Speaker 1: as soon as he stopped following God, God would have
[9:39] Speaker 1: to take away the kingdom. And he did. A small
[9:43] Speaker 1: part of the kingdom remained, but Solomon was no longer
[9:47] Speaker 1: under God's protection. Let's think about it this way. Imagine
[9:52] Speaker 1: Solomon under a big giant umbrella in the midst of
[9:56] Speaker 1: a raging storm. When he stands under the umbrella, he's
[10:00] Speaker 1: standing under God's protection by loving and obeying God. But
[10:06] Speaker 1: as soon as he stops obeying God and does things
[10:09] Speaker 1: his own way, he steps outside of the umbrella. And
[10:13] Speaker 1: what happens when you get out from under the umbrella
[10:17] Speaker 1: during a rainstorm? you get drenched. In the same way,
[10:23] Speaker 1: we have a giant umbrella over us representing God's protection too.
[10:28] Speaker 1: By loving and obeying God, we can stay in His
[10:31] Speaker 1: hands and out of the chaotic world. That means away
[10:36] Speaker 1: from craziness. Psalm 91, 1-2 says this, He who dwells
[10:44] Speaker 1: in the secret place of the Most High will rest
[10:47] Speaker 1: in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to
[10:51] Speaker 1: the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my
[10:55] Speaker 1: God in whom I trust. But wait, does obeying God
[11:01] Speaker 1: mean that nothing bad will ever happen? Um, no. Because
[11:06] Speaker 1: of that big giant problem we call sin. But we
[11:11] Speaker 1: do know that when we are under God's umbrella of
[11:14] Speaker 1: protection and living in His ways, nothing happens to us
[11:20] Speaker 1: that he can't handle. And he's always, always, always on
[11:26] Speaker 1: our side. Today's story ends with Solomon's son, Rehoboam, is
[11:31] Speaker 1: crowned as king. We'll get to know him more next
[11:35] Speaker 1: time and hear about a big split. Not a banana split,
[11:40] Speaker 1: but a kingdom split. So be sure to come back
[11:43] Speaker 1: and thanks for listening today. Always remember... The Bible is
