[1:19] Speaker 3: Stew and Axe In our last story, war between Israel
[1:25] Speaker 3: and Moab broke out. Elisha gave a word from the Lord,
[1:28] Speaker 3: that Moab would be given over to them. In this story,
[1:33] Speaker 3: Elisha will help a widow and make an axe head float,
[1:36] Speaker 3: as inspired by 2 Kings.
[1:42] Speaker 1: Hi again, it's Joya Sadler with the Kids Bible in
[1:45] Speaker 1: the Air podcast. I'm so excited you're here with me today.
[1:49] Speaker 1: Today we're going to learn about a widow who almost
[1:52] Speaker 1: lost her sons, prophets who were almost poisoned, people who
[1:58] Speaker 1: almost went hungry, and an important tool that was almost
[2:03] Speaker 1: lost forever. But then God stepped in and changed everything.
[2:08] Speaker 4: Let's find out what happened.
[2:13] Speaker 3: One day, the wife of a man from the school
[2:15] Speaker 3: of prophets cried out to Elisha, My husband is dead,
[2:21] Speaker 3: and you know that he feared the Lord. And now
[2:24] Speaker 3: the man that he owes money to is coming to
[2:26] Speaker 3: take my two sons as slaves. Alicia said, I think
[2:31] Speaker 3: I can help. What do you have in your house?
[2:35] Speaker 3: I really don't have anything, but I do have a
[2:37] Speaker 3: little oil. Alicia responded, Listen up. Go and get as
[2:42] Speaker 3: many jugs and bowls that you can get from your neighbors.
[2:46] Speaker 3: Then go inside and shut the door behind you and
[2:49] Speaker 3: your sons. Pour oil into each container until they are full.
[2:56] Speaker 3: She did everything that Alicia said. She gathered up the
[2:59] Speaker 3: jugs and bowls, shut the door behind her, and her
[3:03] Speaker 3: sons helped her fill up each container. When all of
[3:06] Speaker 3: the containers were full, the oil stopped. She told Alicia
[3:10] Speaker 3: everything that happened. Alicia said, Go, sell the oil, and
[3:16] Speaker 3: pay off your debt so you can keep your sons.
[3:20] Speaker 3: There was also a famine in the region of Gilgal.
[3:23] Speaker 3: The school of prophets was meeting to learn from Alicia.
[3:26] Speaker 3: Elisha knew that the prophets were hungry, so he told
[3:29] Speaker 3: his servant, Cook some stew for us in the large pot.
[3:33] Speaker 3: One of the prophets went out to the fields to
[3:35] Speaker 3: gather herbs and found a wild vine that had wild
[3:38] Speaker 3: gourds on it. He filled up his garments with these
[3:41] Speaker 3: wild gourds and put them in a pot of stew.
[3:45] Speaker 3: As the man began to eat the pot of stew,
[3:48] Speaker 3: they could tell that the gourds were poisonous.
[3:50] Speaker 2: Elisha, the stew is poisonous!
[3:53] Speaker 3: Alicia said, Get me some flour. He took the flour,
[3:59] Speaker 3: sprinkled it in the stew, and then the stew was
[4:02] Speaker 3: no longer poisonous. After a time, a man brought Alicia
[4:06] Speaker 3: twenty loaves of bread that were baked from the first
[4:09] Speaker 3: ripe grain. Alicia told the man, Give it to the people.
[4:14] Speaker 3: How can we give out twenty loaves to a hundred men?
[4:18] Speaker 3: His servant said, Elisha said again, Give it to the
[4:22] Speaker 3: people to eat. The Lord has told me that everyone
[4:25] Speaker 3: will eat and we will.
[4:26] Speaker 2: Even have leftovers.
[4:29] Speaker 3: His servants set the bread out and they all ate
[4:32] Speaker 3: and had leftovers. One time, the prophets were offering to
[4:37] Speaker 3: build a new meeting place for Elisha because the building
[4:40] Speaker 3: they were meeting at was too small. Elisha, let us
[4:44] Speaker 3: go to the Jordan and cut down some trees. Sure,
[4:48] Speaker 3: go ahead, Elisha said. Will you please come with us?
[4:52] Speaker 3: said one of the servants.
[4:54] Speaker 2: I will come.
[4:55] Speaker 3: While they were cutting down trees, the iron axe head
[4:59] Speaker 3: fell into the water. One of the servants cried out,
[5:03] Speaker 3: That wasn't even our axe head! Alicia asked. Where did
[5:07] Speaker 3: the axe head fall in? The servants showed Alicia where
[5:10] Speaker 3: the axe head fell in. He cut a stick, threw
[5:13] Speaker 3: it in the water, and the axe head rose to
[5:16] Speaker 3: the top of the water. The young servant then grabbed
[5:19] Speaker 3: the axe head and restored the axe.
[5:27] Speaker 1: Wow, that really was a hodgepodge of stories, wasn't it?
[5:31] Speaker 1: A widow, an oil, poisonous soup, magically multiplying bread, and
[5:37] Speaker 1: a floating axe. These stories might seem like they're just
[5:42] Speaker 1: about random miracles at first. But in the Bible, nothing
[5:46] Speaker 1: is random. Every story has a purpose. And you know
[5:51] Speaker 1: what's amazing? The hundreds of small stories that make up
[5:55] Speaker 1: the Bible all work together to tell one huge, beautiful story.
[6:01] Speaker 1: Kind of like a puzzle. Let's see if we can
[6:04] Speaker 1: put the puzzle of today's stories together. First, there was
[6:09] Speaker 1: a widow who needed help. God did a miracle by
[6:12] Speaker 1: filling a bunch of jars with exactly what she needed.
[6:17] Speaker 1: Oil to pay her debts and keep her family going. Second,
[6:22] Speaker 1: there was soup that got poisoned. If God hadn't stepped in,
[6:26] Speaker 1: everyone would have died. But he changed the very nature
[6:30] Speaker 1: of the soup. So instead of bringing death, it filled
[6:34] Speaker 1: everyone's hungry belly and brought life. Next, God fed over
[6:40] Speaker 1: 100 people with just 20 loaves of barley bread. And
[6:45] Speaker 1: even after they ate and were full, there was bread
[6:49] Speaker 1: left over. Last, a valuable tool sank deep, deep, deep
[6:55] Speaker 1: to the bottom of a river. But when God used
[6:58] Speaker 1: Elisha to rescue it, even something as heavy as iron
[7:02] Speaker 1: floated on top of the water, light as a feather.
[7:07] Speaker 1: Now before we try to solve the puzzle, I want
[7:09] Speaker 1: to ask you a question. When someone makes you laugh,
[7:13] Speaker 1: I mean really laugh. I mean a big, deep, rolling
[7:18] Speaker 1: on the floor, can hardly get a breath laugh. Does
[7:22] Speaker 1: it sound the same inside the house as it does
[7:25] Speaker 1: outside or is it different? And if you giggle, I
[7:29] Speaker 1: mean really giggle, is it the same in the kitchen
[7:34] Speaker 1: as it is in the bedroom or is it different?
[7:37] Speaker 1: It's the same. You sound like you wherever you are.
[7:41] Speaker 1: And as you get bigger, your laugh might get a
[7:44] Speaker 1: little deeper. Or you might laugh at different things. But
[7:47] Speaker 1: someone who loves you would recognize your laugh anywhere. Now,
[7:53] Speaker 1: what does your laugh have to do with soap and
[7:56] Speaker 1: a floating axe head? Well, the Bible says that God
[8:00] Speaker 1: is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He doesn't change
[8:05] Speaker 1: even when we see him in different places or different times.
[8:10] Speaker 1: God sounds like God all throughout the Bible. So when
[8:14] Speaker 1: Jesus went to a wedding where the bride and groom
[8:17] Speaker 1: needed help, he did a miracle by filling a bunch
[8:20] Speaker 1: of jars with exactly what they needed, wine to keep
[8:24] Speaker 1: the wedding going. And when the people were poisoned by
[8:27] Speaker 1: sickness and disease, Jesus changed the very nature of their
[8:32] Speaker 1: bodies to heal them. Instead of death, he filled them
[8:35] Speaker 1: with life. You can probably guess a story about the bread.
[8:38] Speaker 1: Jesus fed over 5,000 people with three fish and two loaves.
[8:44] Speaker 1: And just like in the story of Elisha, Jesus even
[8:48] Speaker 1: multiplied barley loaves. And finally, one night when Jesus' precious
[8:54] Speaker 1: friends thought they would sink deep, deep, deep to the
[8:57] Speaker 1: bottom of a lake, Jesus, as heavy as a man,
[9:01] Speaker 1: walked to them on top of the water as light
[9:04] Speaker 1: as a feather. He rescued them. Stories like this are
[9:09] Speaker 1: one way you know Jesus is God. Because God sounds
[9:13] Speaker 1: like God wherever he is in the Bible. And Jesus
[9:17] Speaker 1: sounds just like him. Jesus even said, I have not
[9:21] Speaker 1: come to get rid of the law, but to fulfill it.
[9:25] Speaker 1: He meant that when you put together the puzzle pieces
[9:28] Speaker 1: of all the Bible stories, a big, beautiful picture starts
[9:32] Speaker 1: to take shape. A picture of Him. Jesus is God.
[9:38] Speaker 1: And though He might look a little different in the
[9:40] Speaker 1: New Testament than the Old, when you love Him, you'll
[9:44] Speaker 1: recognize Him anywhere. I'm so happy you joined me today.
[9:48] Speaker 1: Come back next time to find out how a wealthy
[9:51] Speaker 1: old woman gave birth to to a son, nearly lost him,
[9:56] Speaker 1: then got him back again. Remember the Bible. is the
