Join Julia Jeffress Sadler as she takes us on an incredible adventure in Episode 157. At a dinner party hosted by Simon, a Pharisee, Jesus was approached by a woman known for her sins. She washed Jesus' feet with her tears, dried them with her hair, and anointed them with perfume. Simon doubted Jesus' wisdom, thinking a true prophet would reject a sinner. Jesus responded with a story about forgiveness and gratitude, pointing out that the woman showed more hospitality and love than Simon. He then forgave her sins, saying her faith had saved her, leaving the guests puzzled about His authority to forgive. [1:11] Speaker 2: Jesus healed a soldier's servant and brought a young man
[1:15] Speaker 2: back to life. In this story, we will learn about Jesus'
[1:19] Speaker 2: teaching on forgiveness. as he forgives a sinful woman who
[1:24] Speaker 2: washed Jesus' feet with her hair, as inspired by the Gospels.
[1:33] Speaker 3: Welcome back.
[1:34] Speaker 1: It's Julianne Thompson, guest hosting for Julia Jeffress Sadler, and
[1:38] Speaker 1: we're ready for another story from the Kids Bible in
[1:41] Speaker 1: Ear podcast. Jesus is headed to a party, and something
[1:46] Speaker 1: very interesting is about to happen there. Let's listen and
[1:50] Speaker 1: ask God in our hearts to teach us something new today.
[1:57] Speaker 2: There was a teacher of the people, a Pharisee called Simon,
[2:01] Speaker 2: not Jesus' disciple. He reached out to Jesus and invited
[2:06] Speaker 2: him to a dinner party. Jesus, like anybody, accepted the offer. Now,
[2:12] Speaker 2: there was a sinful woman in the town who.
[2:15] Speaker 3: Heard that Jesus was at the house.
[2:17] Speaker 2: She brought a jar of perfume to the house and
[2:20] Speaker 2: then at Jesus' feet began crying and began to wash
[2:24] Speaker 2: his feet with her tears. She dried his feet with
[2:28] Speaker 2: her hair and rubbed them with the perfume. Simon the
[2:32] Speaker 2: Pharisee thought to himself, If this Jesus was really a prophet,
[2:37] Speaker 2: he would know that this woman who is touching him
[2:40] Speaker 2: is a sinner. Jesus knew what Simon was thinking and said, Simon,
[2:46] Speaker 2: Imagine two people. They both borrowed money from the bank.
[2:50] Speaker 2: One person borrowed $ 2, 000, while the other borrowed $ 25, 000. As
[2:58] Speaker 2: it turns out, both of them were unable to pay
[3:00] Speaker 2: it back. Now the bank had all the power to
[3:03] Speaker 2: put them in jail, but it decided to forgive them
[3:06] Speaker 2: both of their debts. Tell me, who would be more
[3:10] Speaker 2: loyal to the bank? Simon acted. as if his question
[3:14] Speaker 2: was an insult to his common sense, and said, Of course,
[3:18] Speaker 2: the person who had the $ 25, 000 debt. You are right,
[3:23] Speaker 2: said Jesus. When I came here, you never asked me
[3:27] Speaker 2: if I wanted water to wash my feet, but this
[3:30] Speaker 2: woman washed it and dried it with her hair. When
[3:34] Speaker 2: I got here, you didn't even offer me a greeting,
[3:37] Speaker 2: yet this woman has not stopped kissing my feet. When
[3:41] Speaker 2: I got here, you never offered me any essence so
[3:44] Speaker 2: I could smell good. But this woman poured out her
[3:48] Speaker 2: years earning on my feet with her perfume. I tell you,
[3:52] Speaker 2: her many sins are forgiven because she has shown great love. Likewise,
[3:59] Speaker 2: a person with little need for forgiveness will show little love.
[4:04] Speaker 2: Then Jesus looked at the woman and said, Your sins
[4:07] Speaker 2: are forgiven. Now go and be at peace. This confused everybody.
[4:14] Speaker 2: They didn't understand how Jesus could have the power to forgive.
[4:18] Speaker 2: Jesus then told the woman, your faith has saved you.
[4:28] Speaker 1: I guess Simon learned a very important lesson that day.
[4:32] Speaker 3: It's one that we can learn as well.
[4:35] Speaker 1: Let's dive in and unpack what happened in today's story.
[4:39] Speaker 3: Jesus is invited.
[4:40] Speaker 1: To an important party with a lot of important people.
[4:45] Speaker 1: A Pharisee, a Jewish leader named Simon, seems to be
[4:48] Speaker 1: interested in the teachings of Jesus and wants to come
[4:52] Speaker 1: here more. But what he doesn't know is that Jesus
[4:56] Speaker 1: doesn't care about how important your job.
[4:59] Speaker 3: Is or how much money you make.
[5:01] Speaker 1: He doesn't just want to be around those with power
[5:04] Speaker 1: and popularity.
[5:06] Speaker 3: The Bible says that a.
[5:07] Speaker 1: Woman who did some pretty bad things lived in the city.
[5:12] Speaker 1: She sinned a lot, and everyone knew it. This woman
[5:17] Speaker 1: heard that Jesus was going to the Pharisee's house, so
[5:20] Speaker 1: she went to find him. She bought something called an
[5:24] Speaker 1: alabaster box, which was a soft stone jar full of
[5:29] Speaker 1: expensive perfume. And right away she began to cry. She
[5:34] Speaker 1: felt sorry for the things she had done. And it's
[5:38] Speaker 1: almost as if she could tell that the presence of
[5:40] Speaker 1: God was with Jesus. She was in awe of him
[5:45] Speaker 1: and just so grateful. This was her way of asking
[5:49] Speaker 1: Jesus for forgiveness and telling him how thankful she was
[5:53] Speaker 1: for his love. Her tears fell on the feet of
[5:57] Speaker 1: Jesus and she dried them with her hair. She then
[6:01] Speaker 1: broke the box and poured her expensive perfume on his feet.
[6:06] Speaker 3: No one could believe it.
[6:09] Speaker 1: Why wasn't Jesus telling her to go away?
[6:12] Speaker 3: She didn't belong there. Or did she?
[6:16] Speaker 1: Simon began to wonder if Jesus was actually this great
[6:19] Speaker 1: prophet that everyone said he was.
[6:22] Speaker 3: Any prophet would know this.
[6:24] Speaker 1: Woman was sinful and would not have anything to do
[6:27] Speaker 1: with her. Jesus knew just what Simon was thinking. just
[6:32] Speaker 1: like he knows what.
[6:33] Speaker 3: I'm thinking and what you're thinking.
[6:35] Speaker 1: Every second of every day. He told Simon a story
[6:39] Speaker 1: about two people that borrowed money. He said that the
[6:43] Speaker 1: one who borrowed the most money and didn't have to
[6:46] Speaker 1: pay it back was the most grateful. In the same way,
[6:50] Speaker 1: this woman who had sinned was so thankful for God's
[6:53] Speaker 1: forgiveness that she washed his feet and gave her the
[6:57] Speaker 1: thing that was most precious to her. Jesus was teaching
[7:02] Speaker 1: his friends that it's not always about what someone does
[7:05] Speaker 1: or looks like on the outside. Jesus always cares more
[7:11] Speaker 1: about our hearts. And this woman's heart belonged to God.
[7:15] Speaker 1: As this story ends, Jesus told the woman that her
[7:20] Speaker 1: sins were forgiven and that she could now go and
[7:23] Speaker 1: no longer feel guilty or sad about the things she
[7:27] Speaker 1: did in the past.
[7:29] Speaker 3: Again, The people there were in shock. He forgives sins?
[7:35] Speaker 3: And they still weren't so sure about this. But deep down,
[7:40] Speaker 3: they knew something was stirring.
[7:42] Speaker 1: Let's think about the gift this woman gave Jesus.
[7:46] Speaker 3: It was the most likely, the most precious thing she owned.
[7:52] Speaker 1: Yet she poured it out on his feet. Is there
[7:56] Speaker 1: something in your life that you're.
[7:58] Speaker 3: Willing to give to Jesus today?
[8:01] Speaker 1: Something that seems important to you but could also be
[8:04] Speaker 1: a way to show him how much you love him
[8:06] Speaker 1: and how grateful you are for his forgiveness and love?
[8:12] Speaker 3: Here are some ideas of things you could give to Jesus.
[8:16] Speaker 3: Your time, your sleep, your money, your schedule, your decisions,
[8:24] Speaker 3: your obedience.
[8:26] Speaker 1: Ask God to show you something you can do for him,
[8:29] Speaker 1: to show your love for him. Just like this woman,
[8:33] Speaker 1: offer it freely to him and thank him for forgiving you.
[8:37] Speaker 1: And just as Jesus did with the sinful woman.
[8:40] Speaker 3: He will do with you. He will say, your sins
[8:43] Speaker 3: are forgiven and your faith has saved you. Go in peace.
[8:49] Speaker 3: Thanks for listening to today's story.
[8:52] Speaker 1: Next time, Jesus is going to tell a story about
[8:55] Speaker 1: a farmer and all his seeds. It's going to teach
[8:59] Speaker 1: us a lot about the kingdom of God and our
[9:02] Speaker 1: own hearts.
[9:03] Speaker 3: Let's say it together.
[9:05] Speaker 1: The Bible is the best story ever told.
