[1:14] Speaker 4: God helps out King Hezekiah. In our last story, King
[1:19] Speaker 4: Hezekiah became the king and did right in God's eyes.
[1:24] Speaker 4: He had the Levites cleanse the temple and gathered the
[1:27] Speaker 4: people to celebrate Passover. In this story, Sennacherib will attack
[1:32] Speaker 4: Judah and Hezekiah will cry out to God, as inspired
[1:37] Speaker 4: by 2 Kings and 2 Chronicles.
[1:44] Speaker 2: Hi there, welcome back. This is Julia Sadler.
[1:47] Speaker 1: Thanks for listening to the Kids Bible in a Year podcast. Today,
[1:51] Speaker 1: God is going to show his power and it will
[1:53] Speaker 1: be awesome. He will bless Hezekiah and the people of
[1:58] Speaker 1: Judah for being faithful and true to him. And we're
[2:01] Speaker 1: going to learn a lot from this king about how
[2:05] Speaker 1: to face our own battles. So listen carefully.
[2:12] Speaker 4: King Hezekiah continued to be a man that obeyed God.
[2:17] Speaker 4: The Lord continued to help him in his time of
[2:19] Speaker 4: need and also blessed him. In fact, one day, the
[2:24] Speaker 4: king of Assyria, King Sennacherib, decided to order the invasion
[2:28] Speaker 4: and attack Judah. King Hezekiah got word of this and
[2:32] Speaker 4: knew that Jerusalem was going to be attacked next. That's
[2:36] Speaker 4: when he ordered all of the springs that provided water
[2:39] Speaker 4: to places outside of Jerusalem to be cut off so
[2:43] Speaker 4: that when the Assyrian army came to Jerusalem, they wouldn't
[2:46] Speaker 4: have any water for the soldiers to drink. After that,
[2:50] Speaker 4: King Hezekiah ordered began to prepare Jerusalem for the attack.
[2:54] Speaker 4: He gathered workers to repair any parts of the city
[2:57] Speaker 4: wall that was destroyed and then ordered that their walls
[3:01] Speaker 4: be built high to protect the city. They also secured
[3:05] Speaker 4: a lot of weapons and shields for Judah's army. After
[3:08] Speaker 4: all of the soldiers were dressed and ready for battle
[3:11] Speaker 4: at any minute, King Hezekiah turned to them and said,
[3:15] Speaker 4: Don't worry about King Sennacherib and his army. They don't
[3:19] Speaker 4: rely on God to fight for them. They believe that
[3:22] Speaker 4: they can fight and win on their own. We, on
[3:25] Speaker 4: the other hand, trust in the Almighty God. Do not
[3:29] Speaker 4: be afraid. Once King Sennacherib and his army were on
[3:34] Speaker 4: the outside of Jerusalem, he made sure that King Hezekiah
[3:38] Speaker 4: and the people knew by sending a message in Hebrew, saying,
[3:42] Speaker 4: My name is Sennacherib, king of Assyria, and my army
[3:46] Speaker 4: has surrounded Jerusalem. You are all trapped. Don't believe a
[3:51] Speaker 4: word your king is telling you. You are not strong
[3:54] Speaker 4: enough to beat my army, and your god won't help
[3:56] Speaker 4: you either. Didn't your king destroy all of the altars
[4:01] Speaker 4: and force you all to worship in one place? Your
[4:04] Speaker 4: king is crazy. King Sennacherib taunted the people. Then he continued, saying,
[4:10] Speaker 4: There has been no country that has been able to
[4:13] Speaker 4: defeat Assyria. Where were their gods? Clearly they didn't help
[4:18] Speaker 4: them fight. So why do you believe that your God
[4:20] Speaker 4: will do any different? King Hezekiah heard this message and
[4:24] Speaker 4: immediately went before God to pray and beg for help.
[4:28] Speaker 4: He even asked a prophet named Isaiah to pray to
[4:32] Speaker 4: the Lord as well. The Lord heard his prayer and
[4:35] Speaker 4: sent an angel to kill every single soldier, a part
[4:39] Speaker 4: of the Assyrian army. King Sennacherib was shocked that all
[4:44] Speaker 4: of his soldiers were dead. He returned back to Assyria
[4:47] Speaker 4: defeated and embarrassed. When he went inside one of the
[4:51] Speaker 4: temples to pray to his god, a few of his
[4:54] Speaker 4: own sons entered as well and killed him. King Sennacherib
[4:58] Speaker 4: was no more, and all was well in Jerusalem again.
[5:07] Speaker 2: Victory! Long live King Hezekiah!
[5:11] Speaker 1: As today's story opens, we find Hezekiah continuing to obey
[5:16] Speaker 1: and honor God in all he does. Unlike so many
[5:20] Speaker 1: other kings who started off doing the right thing but
[5:23] Speaker 1: ended their lives in idol worship and disobedience, Hezekiah remained
[5:28] Speaker 1: true to God, and God kept helping him. But even
[5:33] Speaker 1: though God was so pleased with Judah and the way
[5:36] Speaker 1: they had turned back to him, they were still under attack.
[5:41] Speaker 2: The king of.
[5:42] Speaker 1: Assyria was after them and his army was nothing to
[5:45] Speaker 1: play around with.
[5:47] Speaker 2: It was big, strong, and no other nation was able
[5:51] Speaker 2: to defeat them. Isn't that interesting?
[5:54] Speaker 1: Even though Judah was honoring God, he still allowed the
[5:58] Speaker 1: Assyrians to come after them. In the same way, when
[6:02] Speaker 1: we are doing the right thing and living in a
[6:06] Speaker 1: way that pleases God, we will be attacked too. Not
[6:10] Speaker 1: by big giant armies with swords and chariots, but from
[6:13] Speaker 1: another enemy who is just as bad.
[6:16] Speaker 2: Do you know who that is?
[6:19] Speaker 1: Satan loves to distract us from doing things God's way
[6:23] Speaker 1: and tempt us to do things our way. Sometimes bad
[6:27] Speaker 1: things will happen or we will just feel like nothing
[6:30] Speaker 1: is going our way. We might even feel like following
[6:34] Speaker 1: God is too hard and it's not working out for us.
[6:39] Speaker 2: Don't believe it.
[6:40] Speaker 1: Do you remember what King Hezekiah said to his people?
[6:44] Speaker 1: He said, do not worry. We have the king of
[6:48] Speaker 1: the universe on our side. The Assyrians only tried to
[6:53] Speaker 1: do things their way.
[6:54] Speaker 2: God is going to take care of us. I promise.
[6:58] Speaker 2: Just trust him.
[7:00] Speaker 1: Hezekiah then did something very smart and cut off the
[7:04] Speaker 1: water supply so the Assyrian soldiers would have nothing to drink.
[7:09] Speaker 1: He built some high city walls, got the armor and
[7:13] Speaker 1: weapons ready, and prepared his men for battle. And again,
[7:17] Speaker 1: just like Hezekiah's soldiers prepared for battle, we can too.
[7:23] Speaker 1: Ephesians 6 tells us all about the kind of armor
[7:27] Speaker 1: we need to put on every day. This is not
[7:30] Speaker 1: actual armor like these soldiers, but it's doing things like
[7:34] Speaker 1: reading God's word, having faith, and trusting in God to
[7:39] Speaker 1: save us. When we put on this armor, we are
[7:43] Speaker 1: protected from our biggest enemy. Well, next, the king of
[7:47] Speaker 1: Assyria tried to scare Judah's army and convince them they
[7:51] Speaker 1: would never win. That's when Hezekiah did another smart thing.
[7:57] Speaker 2: He prayed.
[7:58] Speaker 1: He knew just where to go. And not only did
[8:01] Speaker 1: he pray, he asked Isaiah, a great prophet in that.
[8:05] Speaker 2: Day, to pray for him too. Hezekiah is giving us
[8:09] Speaker 2: a great reminder here. Sometimes putting on our armor is
[8:13] Speaker 2: great and knowing what to do helps.
[8:16] Speaker 1: But we have to remember above all else that we
[8:19] Speaker 1: can face our enemies only with God's help. That means
[8:24] Speaker 1: talking to God, asking him for help, and telling him
[8:28] Speaker 1: that we trust in him alone.
[8:30] Speaker 2: Because it's only through his strength that we have true victory.
[8:35] Speaker 2: So let's recap. What do we.
[8:37] Speaker 1: Need to do when we are following God but we
[8:40] Speaker 1: feel like we are being attacked?
[8:42] Speaker 2: When things are.
[8:43] Speaker 1: Awful or hard and we don't know if we can
[8:46] Speaker 1: make it?
[8:47] Speaker 2: We do what Hezekiah did. We put on our armor.
[8:52] Speaker 1: See Ephesians 6. Go ahead and read that sometime today.
[8:57] Speaker 1: We pray and we ask others to pray for us.
[9:00] Speaker 1: Then we wait, trusting in the one true God, our God.
[9:05] Speaker 1: So the story goes, God heard Hezekiah's prayer and gave
[9:10] Speaker 1: victory to his people that day.
[9:12] Speaker 2: The king of Assyria was no more, and all was
[9:16] Speaker 2: well again in Jerusalem.
[9:19] Speaker 1: God blessed and honored his people for trusting in him alone.
[9:24] Speaker 2: Thanks for listening today.
[9:25] Speaker 1: Next time, Hezekiah is going to get some tough news,
[9:29] Speaker 1: but it's not going to keep him from trusting God
[9:32] Speaker 1: and loving God's word. Remember, the Bible is the best
[9:37] Speaker 1: story ever told.
[9:39] Speaker 2: It's God's story to you, and it's all true. Love
