[1:09] Speaker 3: Paul's letters to Rome. In our last story, we began
[1:14] Speaker 3: Paul's letter to the Romans and his explanation for our
[1:18] Speaker 3: position before God and how he longs for us to
[1:21] Speaker 3: be saved. In this story, the Apostle Paul continues the
[1:26] Speaker 3: second half of his letter to the Christians who are
[1:29] Speaker 3: in Rome with a focus on how to apply a
[1:32] Speaker 3: saving faith in Jesus, as inspired by Romans.
[1:40] Speaker 1: Hi again, it's Julianne Thompson, guest hosting for Julia Jeffress
[1:44] Speaker 1: Sadler with the Kids Bible in a Year podcast. I
[1:47] Speaker 1: am so excited you're here with me. Today we're going
[1:50] Speaker 1: to learn about a very special promise Paul tells the
[1:54] Speaker 1: believers in Rome about, and it's a promise for you too.
[1:58] Speaker 1: Let's dive right in.
[2:02] Speaker 3: There is no guilt for those who serve Jesus. He
[2:05] Speaker 3: has set you free from sin and death. Jesus came
[2:09] Speaker 3: as a human so he could defeat sin. We must
[2:13] Speaker 3: not think about things of the flesh, but things of
[2:16] Speaker 3: the spirit. You cannot please God unless the Spirit of
[2:20] Speaker 3: God is inside of you. The same Spirit which raised
[2:23] Speaker 3: Jesus from the dead will give life to you. If
[2:27] Speaker 3: you are led by the Spirit of God, you are
[2:29] Speaker 3: a son of God. You are no longer a slave,
[2:32] Speaker 3: and you can cry out to God as your father.
[2:36] Speaker 3: If we suffer with the pain of Jesus' death, we
[2:38] Speaker 3: will also be with him in his glory. The pain
[2:42] Speaker 3: of today is far less than the glory which will
[2:45] Speaker 3: come to us one day. All of creation waits for
[2:49] Speaker 3: the day of redemption. We wait for that day with hope.
[2:53] Speaker 3: The Spirit helps us when we are weak. The Spirit
[2:56] Speaker 3: prays for us when we do not know what to pray.
[2:59] Speaker 3: God works things together for the good of his children.
[3:03] Speaker 3: If God is on our side, who can come against us?
[3:06] Speaker 3: Nothing can separate us from his love, not even pain
[3:10] Speaker 3: or fear. However, there are people who do not wish
[3:15] Speaker 3: to experience God's love. Some believe that because they are
[3:18] Speaker 3: Abraham's descendants that they will be saved. What they do
[3:22] Speaker 3: not realize is that those who believe in Jesus are
[3:25] Speaker 3: spiritual children. In other words, those spiritual children are the
[3:30] Speaker 3: true children of Abraham's promise and blessings. We cannot work
[3:35] Speaker 3: our own way to salvation. It is because of God's
[3:38] Speaker 3: mercy that we have salvation. I pray that the Jews
[3:43] Speaker 3: become saved. This is the knowledge that counts most, to
[3:48] Speaker 3: believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord, confess with
[3:51] Speaker 3: your mouth and believe God raised him from the dead.
[3:55] Speaker 3: It does not matter who you are because God is
[3:58] Speaker 3: God to everyone. It is critical that people hear the
[4:02] Speaker 3: name of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, there are those who have
[4:06] Speaker 3: heard the gospel of Jesus Christ and still reject it.
[4:10] Speaker 3: God does not reject his people and he will always
[4:13] Speaker 3: save a remnant. Again, they are not saved by working
[4:17] Speaker 3: for salvation, but only by God's grace. Has anyone sinned
[4:22] Speaker 3: too far for God's grace? No. Despite what the Jews believe,
[4:26] Speaker 3: salvation is available to everyone and anyone. God is kind
[4:31] Speaker 3: to those who believe and stern to those who do not.
[4:34] Speaker 3: Even so, God extends mercy to everyone. You at one
[4:38] Speaker 3: point were also disobedient to God. Though you are not
[4:42] Speaker 3: disobedient now, you should offer yourself to God. Do not
[4:46] Speaker 3: be prideful. We are all a family in Christ, and
[4:49] Speaker 3: we all have different gifts. The Holy Spirit gives each
[4:53] Speaker 3: of us these different gifts, and we should use these
[4:56] Speaker 3: gifts to glorify God. Love those in God's family. Do
[5:00] Speaker 3: not try to defeat evil with evil, but defeat evil
[5:04] Speaker 3: with good. In the same way, you must love your
[5:07] Speaker 3: brothers and sisters in Christ. You must also submit to
[5:11] Speaker 3: the government. Those in authority are God's servants. Whether they
[5:16] Speaker 3: are Christians or not, citizens or authority, love your neighbor
[5:20] Speaker 3: as yourself. If you love like this, you will always
[5:23] Speaker 3: be following God's law. Behave like Christ and avoid the
[5:27] Speaker 3: desires of your sinful flesh. If someone's faith is weak,
[5:31] Speaker 3: watch over them. Those who are strong must assist those
[5:35] Speaker 3: who are weak. Accept each other. Because Jesus Christ forgave
[5:39] Speaker 3: you and gifted you with grace and mercy. Glory be
[5:44] Speaker 3: to God. Amen.
[5:51] Speaker 1: Today's story was jam-packed with amazing teaching from Paul. But
[5:56] Speaker 1: there's something very special I don't want you to miss.
[6:00] Speaker 1: Before we look at it, let's think back to everything
[6:03] Speaker 1: that's been going on in Paul's life. He's been traveling around.
[6:07] Speaker 1: telling everybody about Jesus. And it's been incredible. He's made
[6:12] Speaker 1: so many new friends. And he's also made a lot
[6:16] Speaker 1: of enemies. Paul has been beaten up, thrown in prison,
[6:21] Speaker 1: and run out of town multiple times. Now he's writing
[6:25] Speaker 1: a letter to Christians who live in Rome. Many of
[6:28] Speaker 1: them had been run out of town too when Emperor
[6:31] Speaker 1: Claudius kicked all the Jews out of Rome. On top
[6:34] Speaker 1: of that, they've gone through a famine. there was hardly
[6:38] Speaker 1: any food. So Paul and the Christians in Rome know
[6:42] Speaker 1: what it's like to go through hard times. I'm sure
[6:45] Speaker 1: there were many days when they just wanted to cry.
[6:48] Speaker 1: Maybe they even started wondering, does God see what's happening
[6:53] Speaker 1: to me? Does he care? Has he left me to
[6:56] Speaker 1: deal with all these troubles on my own? And Paul,
[7:00] Speaker 1: who's faced more troubles than anybody, gives the church some
[7:04] Speaker 1: wonderful news. He encourages them with these words. Paul writes,
[7:12] Speaker 1: Could opposition or anguish or persecution or famine or nakedness
[7:18] Speaker 1: or peril or sword? No, in all of these things
[7:21] Speaker 1: we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
[7:25] Speaker 1: For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels,
[7:29] Speaker 1: nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
[7:34] Speaker 1: nor height, nor depth, nor other created thing that will
[7:38] Speaker 1: be able to separate us from God's love, which is
[7:40] Speaker 1: in Christ Jesus our Lord. Now some of these are
[7:45] Speaker 1: big words, but here's what they mean. If your heart
[7:49] Speaker 1: ever says, is this situation so big or so bad?
[7:54] Speaker 1: that it could make God leave me? The answer is no.
[8:00] Speaker 1: No lack of food, lack of money, lack of sleep,
[8:04] Speaker 1: lack of hope, lack of comfort, lack of friends, or
[8:08] Speaker 1: even lack of safety will ever mean God stopped loving you.
[8:13] Speaker 1: Nothing can separate you from his love. Nothing that happens
[8:18] Speaker 1: in the past and nothing in the future. Nothing going
[8:21] Speaker 1: on right now no matter how sad or scary or stressful,
[8:26] Speaker 1: can pull God away from your side. When life feels
[8:29] Speaker 1: like a battle and like everyone and everything are against you,
[8:34] Speaker 1: you and Jesus can find victory together. He will fight
[8:38] Speaker 1: with you. He will fight for you to help you
[8:41] Speaker 1: win your battles, no matter how fierce they are. God's
[8:45] Speaker 1: love is higher and deeper and stronger than anything else
[8:48] Speaker 1: in the universe. Nothing and no one ever, ever, ever
[8:53] Speaker 1: can tear you away from him. Before you were born,
[8:57] Speaker 1: God loved you and he'll keep on loving you every
[9:00] Speaker 1: second of your life. His love never stops, no matter what. Now,
[9:06] Speaker 1: as Paul and the Roman Christians discovered, life can be
[9:10] Speaker 1: full of hard times. But hard times doesn't mean God
[9:13] Speaker 1: loves you any less. He stayed right there with those
[9:16] Speaker 1: early Christians, walking beside them through their toughest days. When
[9:21] Speaker 1: they wanted to cry, he held them, wiping their tears away.
[9:25] Speaker 1: And he'll do the same for you. If you ever
[9:28] Speaker 1: start wondering, does God see what's happening to me? Does
[9:32] Speaker 1: he care? Has he left me to deal with all
[9:35] Speaker 1: of these troubles on my own? The answer, my dear one,
[9:39] Speaker 1: is no. No matter what happens, no matter what comes,
[9:43] Speaker 1: no matter how scary life gets, God is with you.
[9:47] Speaker 1: He loves you and he will never leave you. Together
[9:51] Speaker 1: with Jesus, you are more than a conqueror in every
[9:53] Speaker 1: battle you face. Nothing can separate you from God's love.
