[1:15] Speaker 3: Jehoshaphat's victory. In our last story, Jehoshaphat became king and
[1:22] Speaker 3: was fully devoted to God. He sent officials to teach
[1:26] Speaker 3: the law in the towns of Judah. He also built
[1:29] Speaker 3: strong walled cities. In this story, Jehoshaphat will appoint judges
[1:36] Speaker 3: and will also face war, as inspired by 2 Chronicles.
[1:46] Speaker 1: Hi again, it's Julia Sadler with the Kids Bible in
[1:49] Speaker 1: a Year podcast. I'm so excited you're here with me today.
[1:53] Speaker 1: Today we will learn about good King Jehoshaphat and how
[1:58] Speaker 1: he honored God. And when trouble came, God protected his
[2:02] Speaker 1: people and fought their battle for them. How?
[2:07] Speaker 3: Let's find out. Jehoshaphat returned to Jerusalem and Jehu, the seer,
[2:15] Speaker 3: had a word from the Lord for the king. Jehu said,
[2:19] Speaker 3: Why did you help the wicked and love those who
[2:22] Speaker 3: hate the Lord? You are doing this, Jehoshaphat, and the
[2:25] Speaker 3: Lord is angry with you because of this. You are
[2:28] Speaker 3: not completely bad, though, as you have torn down goddess
[2:32] Speaker 3: statues and sought out the heart of the Lord. Jehoshaphat
[2:36] Speaker 3: went out among the people all over Jerusalem and turned
[2:40] Speaker 3: their hearts back to God. He appointed judges in the
[2:43] Speaker 3: major cities, and told them, What you do is important,
[2:48] Speaker 3: because you are not judging for men and women, but
[2:51] Speaker 3: you are passing on the judgment of God. Now the
[2:55] Speaker 3: fear of the Lord will be upon you, and I
[2:58] Speaker 3: urge you to judge very carefully. Jehoshaphat commissioned Levites, priests,
[3:05] Speaker 3: and Israelites to settle disputes when it came to the
[3:08] Speaker 3: law of the Lord. Jehoshaphat gave out these orders to
[3:12] Speaker 3: those he commissioned, You must serve with everything you have
[3:16] Speaker 3: in you. But first, serve in the fear of the Lord.
[3:20] Speaker 3: You are to warn the people not to sin against
[3:23] Speaker 3: the Lord, or his anger will come on you. After
[3:27] Speaker 3: all of these changes, the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of
[3:31] Speaker 3: the Mananites wanted to go to war with Jehoshaphat. Jehoshaphat
[3:36] Speaker 3: found out that an army was after him, and they
[3:39] Speaker 3: were coming from the other side of the Dead Sea.
[3:42] Speaker 3: Jehoshaphat prayed to God and ordered a fast for all
[3:46] Speaker 3: of Judah. All of Judah came together and began seeking
[3:50] Speaker 3: God for wisdom and help. Jehoshaphat went to the temple
[3:54] Speaker 3: of the Lord and prayed, Lord, the God of the promise,
[4:00] Speaker 3: are you not the God who is in heaven that
[4:02] Speaker 3: can do the impossible? You are the ruler of the earth.
[4:07] Speaker 3: Power and authority are in your fist and no one's.
[4:11] Speaker 3: When the worst happens, they have taken refuge in this
[4:14] Speaker 3: temple because of your presence. And now, men from Ammon, Moab,
[4:16] Speaker 3: and Mount Seir are here. You wouldn't even let Israel
[4:40] Speaker 3: touch these men when they left Egypt, and now they
[4:43] Speaker 3: are trying to take possession of the very land that
[4:46] Speaker 3: you gave us. We are lacking power. But our hearts
[4:51] Speaker 3: are set on you, Lord. All of Judah was there,
[4:55] Speaker 3: seeking the heart of God. Then the Spirit of the
[4:59] Speaker 3: Lord fell on Jehaziel, and he spoke to Jehoshaphat. Listen,
[5:05] Speaker 3: King Jehoshaphat. and all who are seeking the heart of God.
[5:09] Speaker 3: This is what the Lord is saying. Do not fear
[5:13] Speaker 3: the size of the army. This battle is not for you.
[5:17] Speaker 3: This battle is for God. Tomorrow, march down and find
[5:21] Speaker 3: them in the desert of Jerul. But I remind you,
[5:25] Speaker 3: do not fight them. Stand strong and watch what the
[5:30] Speaker 3: Lord will do. Early in the morning, They set out
[5:35] Speaker 3: to find this army just as the Lord had said.
[5:38] Speaker 3: Jehoshaphat encouraged his people to be strong in the Lord
[5:41] Speaker 3: and assigned men to sing to the Lord. The Lord
[5:45] Speaker 3: sent out ambushes against the army as Judah was singing
[5:48] Speaker 3: praises to the Lord. The Lord turned the army of
[5:52] Speaker 3: men against each other, and all of Judah saw the
[5:55] Speaker 3: bodies of the men and knew that the Lord had
[5:57] Speaker 3: won the battle for them. All of Judah went down
[6:01] Speaker 3: to the dead bodies. and started taking resources that they needed.
[6:05] Speaker 3: Then Jehoshaphat led all of Judah and all of Jerusalem
[6:10] Speaker 3: back to Jerusalem, where they worshipped the Lord at the temple.
[6:15] Speaker 3: This victory was so tremendous that the fear of the
[6:18] Speaker 3: Lord came on the surrounding territories. Jehoshaphat reigned in Jerusalem
[6:23] Speaker 3: for 25 years and did what was right in the
[6:26] Speaker 3: eyes of the Lord. Unfortunately, the hearts of Judah did
[6:30] Speaker 3: not set their eyes on the Lord. because they kept
[6:33] Speaker 3: worshipping false gods. Jehoshaphat made an alliance with a wicked
[6:38] Speaker 3: king named Ahaziah, who ruled over Israel, and this displeased God.
[6:46] Speaker 3: Jehoshaphat wanted to have trading ships, but the Lord did
[6:49] Speaker 3: not want Jehoshaphat to have anything to do with a
[6:52] Speaker 3: wicked king. So he destroyed the ships.
[7:02] Speaker 1: Today's story made God happy to save King Jehoshaphat and
[7:07] Speaker 1: the people of Judah from a big, scary battle. Let's
[7:11] Speaker 1: discover why. Ever since Joshua led the children of Israel
[7:17] Speaker 1: into the land God promised them, the Israelites have lived
[7:21] Speaker 1: under good and bad leaders. Some kings loved God and
[7:25] Speaker 1: helped the people love God too. And some kings only
[7:29] Speaker 1: loved themselves. They loved doing bad things and turned the
[7:34] Speaker 1: people's hearts away from God. But God loves it so
[7:40] Speaker 1: much when you and I trust Him and follow Him.
[7:44] Speaker 1: He knows that's the best way to keep us safe
[7:47] Speaker 1: and make our hearts happy. So King Jehoshaphat told all
[7:51] Speaker 1: of the people of Judah, Hey, you guys! And all
[7:55] Speaker 1: the people said, Yes. King Jehoshaphat said, The people said,
[8:00] Speaker 1: And then King Jehoshaphat said, The people said, All right,
[8:30] Speaker 1: let's do it. And everybody high-fived each other and started
[8:35] Speaker 1: loving and obeying God because King Jehoshaphat was a good king.
[8:41] Speaker 1: When you do good things like King Jehoshaphat did, do
[8:44] Speaker 1: you think God will make your life happy? Well, a
[8:48] Speaker 1: lot of times he does, and sometimes tough things still happen.
[8:54] Speaker 1: Sometimes scary circumstances still come. or people still make you
[8:59] Speaker 1: feel sad, does that mean God stopped loving you?
[9:03] Speaker 3: No.
[9:04] Speaker 1: A million, billion, quadrillion times, no. That's exactly what King
[9:10] Speaker 1: Jehoshaphat and everybody learned when three big, tough, scary armies
[9:16] Speaker 1: decided to come to Judah and beat everybody up. When
[9:21] Speaker 1: the people in Judah heard that news, everybody's knees started knocking,
[9:26] Speaker 1: their tummies scared. and their hands began shaking. They were
[9:30] Speaker 1: so afraid. King Jehoshaphat was scared too, but he knew
[9:36] Speaker 1: what to do. He said, Hey, you guys. And all
[9:40] Speaker 1: the people said, Yes. King Jehoshaphat said, We're going to
[9:45] Speaker 1: pray together and ask God to rescue us, all right?
[9:50] Speaker 1: The people said, All right, let's do it. And the
[9:54] Speaker 1: Bible says that from the daddies and mommies and all
[9:57] Speaker 1: the way down to the littlest. boys and girls, everybody
[10:02] Speaker 1: stopped to remember how God had so faithfully protected them
[10:07] Speaker 1: in the past. Then they prayed, asking God to protect them.
[10:13] Speaker 1: It was God's battle and he won it, just like
[10:16] Speaker 1: he said. I'm so happy you joined me today. Come
[10:19] Speaker 1: back next time to find out what happened when King
[10:22] Speaker 1: Ahaziah didn't trust God the way King Jehoshaphat just did. Remember,
[10:29] Speaker 1: the Bible is the best story ever told. It's God's
[10:33] Speaker 1: story to you, and it's all true. Enjoy the podcast?
