[1:09] Speaker 3: Healing of Dorcas In our last story, Saul was converted

[1:18] Speaker 3: to Jesus. In this story, Peter will heal Aeneas. and
[1:23] Speaker 3: raised Tabitha, also known as Dorcas, from the dead, as
[1:28] Speaker 3: inspired by Acts.
[1:35] Speaker 1: Hi everyone, it's Julianne Thompson, guest hosting for Julia Jeffress Sadler,
[1:39] Speaker 1: here to welcome you back to the Kids Bible in
[1:42] Speaker 1: a Year podcast. Peter is on the move in today's story,
[1:46] Speaker 1: and God is going to show up big time through him.
[1:50] Speaker 1: We're going to hear about two people who needed a
[1:52] Speaker 1: miracle and got one. So listen up.
[1:58] Speaker 3: Peter traveled from place to place preaching the gospel of
[2:02] Speaker 3: Christ and encouraging fellow believers. At one place, he found
[2:06] Speaker 3: a paralyzed man who had been lying on his bed
[2:09] Speaker 3: for eight years. Peter said to him, The Lord Jesus
[2:13] Speaker 3: has healed you, so get up. Immediately, the man was
[2:17] Speaker 3: healed and got up. People in that area saw the
[2:21] Speaker 3: man and heard what happened, and many of them put
[2:24] Speaker 3: their faith in Christ. There was a woman named Dorcas
[2:29] Speaker 3: who lived nearby in the town of Joppa. As a
[2:32] Speaker 3: disciple of Jesus, she loved people and did good works
[2:36] Speaker 3: for them. She became sick and died. Her friends prepared
[2:40] Speaker 3: her body for burial and placed it in an upstairs room.
[2:44] Speaker 3: The disciples in Joppa heard that Peter was in the area.
[2:47] Speaker 3: So they sent two men to him. They said, Please
[2:52] Speaker 3: come with us right away. Peter agreed and went with them.
[2:56] Speaker 3: When he arrived in Joppa, they took him to the
[2:59] Speaker 3: house where they had laid the body of Dorcas. He
[3:03] Speaker 3: went upstairs and found women weeping for her. When they
[3:07] Speaker 3: saw him, they showed him the various robes and clothes
[3:10] Speaker 3: that Dorcas had made while she was alive. Peter sent
[3:14] Speaker 3: them out of the room and knelt down and prayed.
[3:17] Speaker 3: Turning to the body, he said, Dorcas, get up. With that,
[3:23] Speaker 3: she opened her eyes and saw Peter. So she sat up.
[3:27] Speaker 3: He helped her up from the bed and then called
[3:30] Speaker 3: for the other women. He presented Dorcas to them alive.
[3:36] Speaker 3: The news of this spread throughout Joppa and many put
[3:40] Speaker 3: their faith in Jesus.
[3:48] Speaker 1: Jesus's earthly body has left earth, but his power and
[3:52] Speaker 1: love are still alive and well through the Holy Spirit.
[3:56] Speaker 1: The two miracles in today's story are pretty special because
[4:01] Speaker 1: they remind us that when we walk with Jesus, his
[4:05] Speaker 1: power is alive in us. His spirit can move through
[4:08] Speaker 1: us and he can accomplish his plan in us. As
[4:13] Speaker 1: the story begins, we hear Peter traveling around the area,
[4:17] Speaker 1: preaching the gospel and encouraging the believers in Jesus. Now
[4:21] Speaker 1: let's stop here for a moment and think about this.
[4:25] Speaker 1: Do you remember what Jesus told his disciples before he
[4:28] Speaker 1: went up into heaven? Do you remember his final words
[4:32] Speaker 1: before they watched him disappear into the clouds? We find
[4:37] Speaker 1: it in Acts 1.8. But you will receive power when
[4:41] Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be
[4:45] Speaker 1: witnesses to me in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria
[4:49] Speaker 1: and to the uttermost parts of the earth. Peter was
[4:53] Speaker 1: moving all about Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, sharing the good
[4:57] Speaker 1: news and encouraging followers of Christ. He was right where
[5:02] Speaker 1: Jesus told him to be, doing just what Jesus told
[5:05] Speaker 1: him to do. You see, sometimes it's a lot easier
[5:09] Speaker 1: for us to stay in our comfortable house and around
[5:12] Speaker 1: our friends and family where things feel safe and familiar.
[5:17] Speaker 1: But could it be that Jesus is calling us, like Peter,
[5:20] Speaker 1: to get out and look for others who need Jesus?
[5:24] Speaker 1: Peter was on the move and on a mission, and
[5:28] Speaker 1: Jesus is calling us to.
[5:29] Speaker 2: Do the same.
[5:31] Speaker 1: Think about this. Since Peter was on the move and
[5:34] Speaker 1: exactly where God told him to be, these two people,
[5:39] Speaker 1: desperate for a miracle, crossed his path. They encountered Jesus
[5:44] Speaker 1: and their lives were changed simply because of Peter's obedience
[5:49] Speaker 1: and willingness to go and share the gospel. And not
[5:53] Speaker 1: only that, the Bible tells us that after Jesus healed
[5:57] Speaker 1: the paralyzed man named Ananias, All the people who lived
[6:01] Speaker 1: in this town and saw this happen turned to the Lord.
[6:06] Speaker 1: Jesus was multiplying his church and using Peter to do it.
[6:10] Speaker 1: Then there was Dorcas, who sometimes went by Tabitha. She
[6:15] Speaker 1: was a woman full of good works and charitable deeds.
[6:19] Speaker 1: She clearly had a reputation of doing what was right
[6:22] Speaker 1: and helping those in need. Well, she got sick and died.
[6:27] Speaker 1: But she had friends who cared deeply for her and
[6:31] Speaker 1: were desperate to get to Peter when they found out
[6:33] Speaker 1: he was in the area. They showed Peter all she
[6:38] Speaker 1: had done for the believers in Joppa. And as he prayed,
[6:42] Speaker 1: just as he had seen Jesus do, he spoke her
[6:45] Speaker 1: name and told her to get up. And she did.
[6:49] Speaker 1: Once again, the Bible says that this incredible news spread
[6:53] Speaker 1: and fast and many more believed in the Lord. That's
[6:58] Speaker 1: all for today. Let's remember to go out today, just
[7:02] Speaker 1: as Peter did, and find someone in need. Perhaps Jesus
[7:06] Speaker 1: is putting someone in your path this very day. Watch
[7:11] Speaker 1: for them. And when you find them, you'll know that
[7:14] Speaker 1: the God Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, is using
[7:18] Speaker 1: you to build his kingdom and accomplish his plans. Well,
[7:24] Speaker 1: next time you'll want to be here because we are
[7:27] Speaker 1: getting the best news ever. Jesus is opening up his
[7:31] Speaker 1: love and grace to not just his chosen people, the Jews,
[7:35] Speaker 1: but to all of us. He is making us clean
[7:38] Speaker 1: and inviting us to be in his forever family. And
[7:42] Speaker 1: there's one more reason why. The Bible is the best
[7:46] Speaker 1: story ever told. It's God's story to you. And it's
[7:50] Speaker 1: all true. Felt inspired by today's episode? Leave a review
