Join Julia Jeffress Sadler as she takes us on an incredible adventure in Episode 159. Jesus told a story about a man who planted good seeds in his field, but an enemy secretly planted weeds among them. The man decided to let both grow together and separate them at harvest. Jesus explained that this is like the world, where good and bad people live together until the end of time, when they will be separated. He also shared other stories to explain the kingdom of heaven: it's like a hidden treasure in a field, so valuable that a man sold everything to buy the field, and like a pearl so precious a man sold all he had to buy it. Lastly, the kingdom is like a net catching many fish, where good fish are kept and bad ones are thrown away. Jesus asked if his followers understood, and they said they did. [1:22] Speaker 3: Stories by Jesus. In our last story, we saw Jesus
[1:28] Speaker 3: teaching through parables about the kingdom of God. In this
[1:32] Speaker 3: set of stories, we learn about even more parables, or
[1:36] Speaker 3: short stories about the kingdom of God, as inspired by
[1:41] Speaker 3: the Gospels.
[1:45] Speaker 1: Hi, everyone. It's Julianne Thompson, guest hosting for Julia Jeffer Sadler.
[1:50] Speaker 1: Welcome back for another story from the Kids Bible in
[1:53] Speaker 1: a Year podcast. Jesus is telling more stories today, important
[1:58] Speaker 1: ones to help us understand more about his kingdom. So
[2:02] Speaker 1: let's really listen and see what we can learn about
[2:06] Speaker 1: this great, big, amazing kingdom of God. Because it's coming soon,
[2:12] Speaker 1: so we want to be ready. Here we go.
[2:17] Speaker 3: Jesus told another story. The kingdom of heaven is like
[2:21] Speaker 3: a man who planted good seed in his field. But
[2:25] Speaker 3: at night, when everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and
[2:28] Speaker 3: planted weeds among the wheat. So the wheat grew, and
[2:32] Speaker 3: at the same time, the weeds also grew. The man's
[2:36] Speaker 3: servants asked, Where did the weeds come from since you
[2:40] Speaker 3: planted good seed? He replied, An enemy planted them. The
[2:45] Speaker 3: servants said, So do you want us to pull up
[2:49] Speaker 3: the weeds? The man said, No, because when you pull
[2:53] Speaker 3: up the weeds... You might also take the wheat with it.
[2:56] Speaker 3: Let them grow together. Then at harvest time, I will
[3:01] Speaker 3: have you gather the weeds and tie them together to
[3:04] Speaker 3: be burned. Then take the good wheat and bring it
[3:07] Speaker 3: to my barn. Jesus left the crowd, and his followers
[3:12] Speaker 3: came to him and said, Explain to us the meaning
[3:16] Speaker 3: of the wheat and weeds. Jesus answered, The field represents
[3:20] Speaker 3: the world. And the man who planted the good seed
[3:23] Speaker 3: in the field is the son of man. The good
[3:26] Speaker 3: seed are all of God's children in the kingdom. The
[3:31] Speaker 3: weeds are those who belong to the evil one. That
[3:35] Speaker 3: enemy who planted all the bad seeds at night is
[3:38] Speaker 3: the devil. So at the end of the age, the
[3:41] Speaker 3: weeds are pulled up and burned. Then the good people
[3:45] Speaker 3: will shine in the kingdom. Let those with ears use
[3:49] Speaker 3: them to hear and listen. To what has been said.
[3:53] Speaker 3: Jesus continued. The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure
[3:58] Speaker 3: that is hidden in the field. One day a man
[4:01] Speaker 3: found the treasure. And then he hid it in the
[4:05] Speaker 3: field again. The man went and sold everything that he
[4:09] Speaker 3: owned to buy that field. Or consider that the kingdom
[4:14] Speaker 3: of heaven is like a man looking for fine pearls.
[4:18] Speaker 3: One day he found a very valuable pearl. And so
[4:21] Speaker 3: the man went and sold everything he had in order
[4:25] Speaker 3: to buy that pearl. Jesus said that the kingdom of
[4:30] Speaker 3: heaven is also like a net thrown into the lake.
[4:34] Speaker 3: The net caught many fish. The fishermen pulled the net
[4:38] Speaker 3: to shore. As they sat down, they put all the
[4:41] Speaker 3: good fish into baskets and they threw away the bad fish.
[4:47] Speaker 3: It will be this way at the end of the age.
[4:51] Speaker 3: Jesus asked his followers, Do you understand all these things?
[4:57] Speaker 3: They answered, Yes, we understand.
[5:06] Speaker 1: What do weeds, wheat, fish, nets, treasures, and pearls all
[5:12] Speaker 1: have in common? Well, we're about to find out. Today
[5:16] Speaker 1: we heard a few more stories from Jesus. He was
[5:19] Speaker 1: so good at helping his friends understand his message by
[5:23] Speaker 1: telling them these parables. Sometimes his friends needed help understanding
[5:29] Speaker 1: what he was trying to say. And sometimes we do too.
[5:33] Speaker 1: We first heard about a man who planted good seed.
[5:37] Speaker 1: But an enemy came along and planted weeds in the
[5:40] Speaker 1: same spot. Jesus said the man was Jesus. The seeds
[5:45] Speaker 1: were his children and the enemy was Satan.
[5:48] Speaker 3: Ugh.
[5:49] Speaker 1: He's always messing everything up. Jesus said that at harvest time,
[5:54] Speaker 1: meaning at the end of the world, Jesus will separate
[5:58] Speaker 1: the ones who know him from the ones who do not,
[6:01] Speaker 1: just like the wheat and the weeds. Then he said
[6:06] Speaker 1: that all of God's children will shine in his kingdom forever.
[6:10] Speaker 1: The story about the fish and the net is just
[6:14] Speaker 1: like this one. He said the good fish will be
[6:17] Speaker 1: separated from the bad fish. Jesus is teaching us that
[6:21] Speaker 1: not everyone in the world will be in his forever kingdom.
[6:25] Speaker 1: That's hard to understand and can make us feel sad sometimes.
[6:31] Speaker 1: But the truth is, only those who love God, believe
[6:36] Speaker 1: in Jesus, and have chosen to follow him will get
[6:40] Speaker 1: to be a part of his forever kingdom in heaven.
[6:44] Speaker 1: If you know someone who does not follow God, you
[6:47] Speaker 1: can pray for them. You can ask God to help
[6:51] Speaker 1: them see how wonderful he is. And you can even
[6:54] Speaker 1: tell that person about what Jesus means to you. You
[6:59] Speaker 1: can tell them all about heaven and how amazing it
[7:03] Speaker 1: will be. Speaking of heaven, let's move on to the
[7:07] Speaker 1: stories about treasures. We heard about both a treasure and
[7:13] Speaker 1: a fine pearl. Pearls were very expensive and valuable back then.
[7:18] Speaker 1: Both of these precious things were found, and the people
[7:22] Speaker 1: who found them sold everything they had to buy them.
[7:26] Speaker 1: These nice precious treasures and jewels represent heaven. Jesus is
[7:31] Speaker 1: telling that heaven is going to be greater than anything
[7:34] Speaker 1: we can imagine. I'm going to be so good that
[7:38] Speaker 1: he wants us to keep seeking him and thinking about heaven,
[7:43] Speaker 1: just like the man's search for that treasure. Jesus is
[7:47] Speaker 1: also saying that finding joy and happiness in things on
[7:50] Speaker 1: earth only lasts a little while. People, toys, material things,
[7:57] Speaker 1: and success won't make us happy forever. But when we
[8:01] Speaker 1: know God, even if it means that we're not happy
[8:04] Speaker 1: in the moment, we will get to be with him
[8:06] Speaker 1: forever in heaven. And that is the happiest and most
[8:10] Speaker 1: joyful we will ever be. How do you think we
[8:14] Speaker 1: can keep searching for this treasure of heaven? Well, we
[8:19] Speaker 1: start by looking for God every day. That just means
[8:22] Speaker 1: talking to Him, reading your Bible, and seeing Him in
[8:27] Speaker 1: all the things around you. It also means not being
[8:30] Speaker 1: too worried or focused on things like video games, sports, friends, sweets,
[8:36] Speaker 1: getting stray days, lazy days, or anything else that will
[8:40] Speaker 1: make us happy. All those things can be good and
[8:44] Speaker 1: even needed, but not when they are more important to
[8:48] Speaker 1: us than knowing God. What's one way you can look
[8:52] Speaker 1: for the treasure of heaven today? Thanks for listening. Wait,
[8:56] Speaker 1: did you hear that? A big storm is brewing? So
[9:00] Speaker 1: make sure you come back next time to see how
[9:02] Speaker 1: the winds and waves obey God's voice. I can't wait
[9:07] Speaker 1: for this story. Can you say it with me? The
[9:10] Speaker 1: Bible is the best story ever told. It's God's story
[9:14] Speaker 1: to you. And it's all true. Had a blast with
