Join Julia Jeffress Sadler as she takes us on an incredible adventure in Episode 166. Jesus healed a man who had been blind since birth, showing that no one's sin caused his blindness but that it happened so God's work could be shown. When the man washed off the mud Jesus had put on his eyes, he could see for the first time, causing surprise among his neighbors and skepticism from religious leaders. Despite being questioned and thrown out of the temple for defending Jesus, the man met Jesus again and believed in Him, worshiping Him as the Son of Man. [1:02] Speaker 4: Blind at birth. In our last story, we see that
[1:07] Speaker 4: the religious leaders are upset with Jesus and trying to
[1:10] Speaker 4: find ways to kill him. But Jesus continues to preach
[1:15] Speaker 4: and even forgives the woman caught in adultery. In this story,
[1:20] Speaker 4: Jesus will heal a man who had been blind from
[1:23] Speaker 4: birth and the interactions he has with the religious leaders afterwards.
[1:29] Speaker 4: Inspired by the Gospels.
[1:34] Speaker 2: Hi, friends.
[1:35] Speaker 1: It's Julianne Thompson, guest hosting for Julia Jeffress Sadler. Thanks
[1:39] Speaker 1: for joining me for another story from the Kids Bible
[1:42] Speaker 1: in Here podcast. Today, Jesus is going to once again
[1:47] Speaker 1: amaze his followers. And this miracle will drive the religious
[1:51] Speaker 1: leaders a little crazy. We're talking all about using sad
[1:56] Speaker 1: things to make God famous.
[1:59] Speaker 2: Here it is.
[2:03] Speaker 4: There was a man. who had been blind since he
[2:05] Speaker 4: was born. Jesus and the disciples walked by him. The
[2:10] Speaker 4: disciples asked Jesus, Who sent to make this man be
[2:14] Speaker 4: born blind? Was it his parents or was it the
[2:18] Speaker 4: man himself? Jesus answered, No one has sent for him
[2:23] Speaker 4: to be born blind. He was born blind so God
[2:27] Speaker 4: could be glorified in all of this. While it is
[2:31] Speaker 4: still day, We must still do the works of the
[2:33] Speaker 4: He who sent me. Soon it will be night, and
[2:37] Speaker 4: no one will be able to work. I am the
[2:41] Speaker 4: light of the world. After he said that, Jesus spit
[2:45] Speaker 4: on the ground and made mud. He placed it over
[2:48] Speaker 4: the blind man's eyes. He said to him, Go and
[2:52] Speaker 4: wash your face in the pool. The man went, washed
[2:56] Speaker 4: his face in the pool, and he could see after
[2:59] Speaker 4: he washed his eyes. People heard about this and could
[3:03] Speaker 4: not understand how he was able to see. His neighbors
[3:07] Speaker 4: saw him and were shocked to see that the blind
[3:10] Speaker 4: man was now walking around and had sight restored in
[3:13] Speaker 4: his eyes. Some did not believe that it was the
[3:17] Speaker 4: same man, but he told them that it was him.
[3:21] Speaker 4: He told them that a man named Jesus had healed him.
[3:25] Speaker 4: He said to them, He put some mud on my
[3:27] Speaker 4: face and told me to go wash it in the pool.
[3:31] Speaker 4: So I listened to him and washed my face. When
[3:34] Speaker 4: I opened my eyes, I was able to see. My
[3:38] Speaker 4: sight has been restored to my eyes. The religious leaders
[3:43] Speaker 4: heard of this and had the man brought to the temple.
[3:47] Speaker 4: They heard his side of the story. He again said,
[3:52] Speaker 4: He spit on the ground and put mud on my eyes,
[3:55] Speaker 4: and when I cleaned my face, I was able to see.
[3:58] Speaker 4: He restored my sight and made me see again. Some
[4:02] Speaker 4: of the leaders said, This man who healed you can't
[4:06] Speaker 4: be from God because he healed you on the Sabbath.
[4:09] Speaker 4: But others said, He has to be from God. A
[4:13] Speaker 4: sinner cannot heal someone. The man who was once blind
[4:18] Speaker 4: said that the man was a prophet. The religious leaders
[4:22] Speaker 4: had his parents brought in to see if he was
[4:24] Speaker 4: telling the truth.
[4:26] Speaker 2: They asked him, Is this your son?
[4:29] Speaker 4: Was he born blind? How can he now see all
[4:33] Speaker 4: of a sudden? His parents told him that he was
[4:36] Speaker 4: born blind and that they do not know how he
[4:39] Speaker 4: is able to see. They told the religious leaders to
[4:43] Speaker 4: ask their son because he was old enough to answer
[4:46] Speaker 4: for himself. They asked the man again, Give God glory
[4:52] Speaker 4: and tell us the truth. This man is a sinner.
[4:56] Speaker 4: How is it possible that he healed your eyes? The
[4:59] Speaker 4: man replied, I have already told you many times. Why
[5:03] Speaker 4: do you need to hear it again? Must I tell
[5:06] Speaker 4: you what happened again? Do you want to be his followers?
[5:12] Speaker 4: They were so insulted by his remarks and threw him
[5:16] Speaker 4: out of the temple. They said to him, You were
[5:20] Speaker 4: born in sin. You have no right to talk to
[5:23] Speaker 4: us like that. Jesus heard of this and came to
[5:27] Speaker 4: the man and asked him, Do you believe in the
[5:31] Speaker 4: Son of Man? The man asked, Who is he? I
[5:35] Speaker 4: want to believe in him. Jesus said, He is the
[5:40] Speaker 4: one you are seeing and talking to. The man believed
[5:45] Speaker 4: and worshipped Jesus.
[5:52] Speaker 2: Wow, don't you wish you could have been there to
[5:55] Speaker 2: see this?
[5:56] Speaker 1: Today's story about a man who had been blind his
[6:00] Speaker 1: whole life.
[6:02] Speaker 2: Now, let's think about it. Close your eyes for a moment. Now,
[6:06] Speaker 2: keep them closed. Okay, you can open them now.
[6:10] Speaker 1: This man spent every day of his life in darkness.
[6:14] Speaker 1: Can you imagine that? When the disciples saw him, they
[6:18] Speaker 1: thought maybe he or his parents had done something very wrong.
[6:22] Speaker 1: And this blindness was the man's punishment. But according to Jesus,
[6:28] Speaker 1: that wasn't true. Like we've talked about many times before,
[6:32] Speaker 1: sometimes sad things in life just.
[6:34] Speaker 2: Happen and they're no one's fault.
[6:37] Speaker 1: Our world is broken because of all the sin and
[6:40] Speaker 1: sickness and every one of us has to face it
[6:44] Speaker 1: at some point.
[6:45] Speaker 2: Until that is when.
[6:46] Speaker 1: We get to heaven where there's no sickness, no death,
[6:49] Speaker 1: no sadness, just joy with Jesus. Jesus then told his
[6:55] Speaker 1: friends something so important. He said that even though this
[6:59] Speaker 1: man was blind, good things can come of it. People
[7:03] Speaker 1: would be able to see God's goodness in his life.
[7:07] Speaker 1: Then he told them this, I am the light of
[7:10] Speaker 1: the world. Do you think they knew what he was
[7:13] Speaker 1: about to do? I think they might have. As Jesus
[7:18] Speaker 1: knelt down and gathered some mud in his hands, The
[7:21] Speaker 1: disciples must have been pretty confused waiting to see what
[7:25] Speaker 1: would happen next. After the blind man returned from washing
[7:30] Speaker 1: out his eyes, can you imagine how happy he must
[7:33] Speaker 1: have been to open them and for the first time
[7:36] Speaker 1: ever see the trees and grass, clouds, birds, and other people?
[7:44] Speaker 1: Sometimes when something really big happens to you, either good
[7:48] Speaker 1: or bad, you want to talk about it a lot.
[7:51] Speaker 1: You want to tell people what happened because you just
[7:53] Speaker 1: can't believe it. And that's just what this man did.
[7:57] Speaker 1: And as Jesus said, God was getting all the glory.
[8:00] Speaker 1: People were understanding that Jesus was not just an ordinary teacher.
[8:06] Speaker 1: When the Jewish leaders heard about this whole scene, they
[8:10] Speaker 1: brought the man to the temple and started asking him
[8:14] Speaker 1: a lot of questions. What do you mean Jesus healed you?
[8:18] Speaker 1: Are you sure you can see? Are you sure you
[8:21] Speaker 1: are blind? Are you telling the truth? The more times
[8:26] Speaker 1: they asked, the more times he simply told his story.
[8:29] Speaker 2: But that didn't seem like enough.
[8:32] Speaker 1: The leaders called for his parents to see if he
[8:35] Speaker 1: was really telling the truth. His mom and dad said, Well,
[8:39] Speaker 1: it happened to him, not us, and he's old enough
[8:42] Speaker 1: to tell you, so just ask him.
[8:45] Speaker 2: Once again, they asked the man.
[8:47] Speaker 1: And it's as if he raised his voice one final
[8:49] Speaker 1: time and.
[8:50] Speaker 2: Said, look, all I know is this.
[8:54] Speaker 1: I was blind and now I can see and Jesus
[8:57] Speaker 1: healed me. What more is there to say? Well, they
[9:02] Speaker 1: didn't like that one bit and kicked him out of
[9:06] Speaker 1: the temple. But Jesus found him and right there he
[9:09] Speaker 1: told Jesus he believed in him and worshiped him. I
[9:14] Speaker 1: wonder who else believed in Jesus that day after seeing
[9:17] Speaker 1: this miracle. Just maybe we will find out when we
[9:21] Speaker 1: get to heaven. Let's think about this today. Is there
[9:25] Speaker 1: something bad that's happened in your life that you can't control?
[9:29] Speaker 1: Is there something wrong with your body? A sickness or
[9:33] Speaker 1: something that limits you? Is there something going on in
[9:38] Speaker 1: your family and you can't fix it? Whatever it is
[9:42] Speaker 1: that sometimes makes you sad or confused, maybe Jesus is
[9:46] Speaker 1: saying to you today the same thing he said to
[9:49] Speaker 1: his friends. Just maybe this is happening so the works
[9:53] Speaker 1: of God can be seen in you.
[9:55] Speaker 2: How do we know if that's the case?
[9:59] Speaker 1: Well... we simply let God have his way. We trust
[10:03] Speaker 1: and obey his plan even when it hurts. And we
[10:06] Speaker 1: tell others as much as we can about his love
[10:09] Speaker 1: and care for us. One day, you might have a
[10:13] Speaker 1: story like this blind man. Or maybe you already do.
[10:18] Speaker 2: When someone asks you about it, you can say, This happened.
[10:22] Speaker 1: And then this happened. And all I know is that
[10:26] Speaker 1: Jesus helped me. Then maybe someone else will believe because
[10:30] Speaker 1: of your story. Thank you for joining me today. Next time,
[10:35] Speaker 1: Jesus is taking his closest friends up on top of
[10:39] Speaker 1: a mountain. And well, you won't believe what happens next.
