[1:23] Speaker 3: The Resurrection In our last story, we learned about the
[1:28] Speaker 3: death of Jesus on a cross and how he was
[1:32] Speaker 3: placed and buried in the tomb of a man named Joseph.
[1:37] Speaker 3: In this story, we will learn about the glorious resurrection
[1:41] Speaker 3: of Jesus Christ, inspired by the Gospels.
[1:52] Speaker 1: Hi again, it's Julianne Thompson, guest hosting for Julia Jeffress
[1:56] Speaker 1: Sadler with the Kids Bible in a Year podcast. I
[1:59] Speaker 1: am so excited you're here with me today. Today, we're
[2:03] Speaker 1: going to hear a story about the most wonderful surprise ever.
[2:08] Speaker 1: It's so wonderful, it changed everything in the entire world.
[2:12] Speaker 1: Ready to find out what it is? Let's dive in.
[2:16] Speaker 3: The day after Jesus was buried, the Pharisees went to
[2:20] Speaker 3: Pilate and said to him, This man, Jesus, once had
[2:24] Speaker 3: said that after his death, he would rise again on
[2:28] Speaker 3: the third day. Give the order, sir, to have the
[2:31] Speaker 3: guards on the tomb so that the disciples will not
[2:34] Speaker 3: come and steal his body so that the people believe
[2:37] Speaker 3: Jesus rose.
[2:38] Speaker 2: From the dead.
[2:40] Speaker 3: Pilate heard what the Pharisees said and agreed. Send guards
[2:45] Speaker 3: to make sure the tomb this man.
[2:46] Speaker 4: Jesus, is buried in is sealed.
[2:49] Speaker 3: Post guards in the front of the tomb to make
[2:51] Speaker 3: sure the disciples do not attempt to steal Jesus' body.
[2:56] Speaker 3: Not long after the Sabbath came about, Mary Magdalene and
[2:59] Speaker 3: Mary left to go see the tomb where Jesus was laid.
[3:04] Speaker 3: There was a great earthquake, and they discovered that the
[3:07] Speaker 3: stone in front of the tomb was moved and that
[3:10] Speaker 3: an angel of the Lord appeared.
[3:13] Speaker 4: The angel, shining bright, was sitting on the stone which.
[3:17] Speaker 3: Covered the tomb When the guards saw this, they appeared
[3:22] Speaker 3: like they dropped dead. Mary saw that the large stone
[3:26] Speaker 3: had been moved away from the tomb. So Mary ran
[3:29] Speaker 3: to Peter and John and said, They have taken the
[3:32] Speaker 3: Lord out of the tomb. We don't know where they
[3:35] Speaker 3: have put him. They got up and immediately ran to
[3:38] Speaker 3: the tomb where Jesus was buried. When they reached the tomb,
[3:42] Speaker 3: John ran inside, picking up the pieces of cloth that
[3:46] Speaker 3: once wrapped his messiah.
[3:48] Speaker 4: The cloths were lying there alone on the stone.
[3:52] Speaker 3: The disciples returned home in amazement, but Mary stayed and wept.
[3:58] Speaker 4: Then two angels appeared, and one of the angels.
[4:03] Speaker 3: Looked at them and said, Do not fear. I know
[4:08] Speaker 3: that you've come for Jesus, but he is not here.
[4:12] Speaker 3: He has done what he said he would do. He
[4:16] Speaker 3: has risen from the dead.
[4:18] Speaker 4: Come in, look, he's not here. Now go to the
[4:23] Speaker 4: disciples and tell them what you have seen. Tell them
[4:27] Speaker 4: that Jesus has went to Galilee and that they should
[4:30] Speaker 4: meet him there.
[4:33] Speaker 3: The women went and ran to meet the disciples exactly
[4:36] Speaker 3: as the angel had told them. On their way, Jesus
[4:40] Speaker 3: appeared to them. When the women saw Jesus, they fell
[4:44] Speaker 3: to his feet and began to worship him. Jesus said
[4:48] Speaker 3: to Mary Magdalene, Do not keep hold of me, for
[4:52] Speaker 3: I have to still ascend to be with my Father.
[4:56] Speaker 4: Go, tell my disciples what you have seen. Have them
[5:00] Speaker 4: meet me in Galilee, and I will speak with them there.
[5:10] Speaker 1: Do you like surprises? Yes, me too. Especially wonderful surprises.
[5:16] Speaker 1: And this was the most wonderful surprise of all. Can
[5:20] Speaker 1: you imagine how sad Jesus' friends and disciples had been
[5:24] Speaker 1: when he died? When they first met Jesus three years before,
[5:29] Speaker 1: they had been so excited. They had watched him do
[5:32] Speaker 1: amazing things over and over again. Like, do you remember
[5:37] Speaker 1: when they saw Jesus heal people who were sick and hurting?
[5:41] Speaker 1: Or feed people who were hungry? Or stop a storm
[5:45] Speaker 1: when they were scared? And the things he said. Jesus
[5:50] Speaker 1: told everybody that God loved them so much. And that
[5:55] Speaker 1: he wanted them to be a part of his perfect kingdom.
[5:59] Speaker 1: Jesus said people could find truth and life and even
[6:02] Speaker 1: the way to heaven through him. Meeting and following Jesus
[6:06] Speaker 1: was the best thing that had ever happened to his
[6:09] Speaker 1: friends and disciples. But now? It felt like it was
[6:14] Speaker 1: all over. Everyone had seen Jesus die and his disciples
[6:18] Speaker 1: were confused. They were scared. Could they have been wrong
[6:22] Speaker 1: about him? Did God not love them so much after all?
[6:27] Speaker 1: You know, sometimes in our lives we get scared and
[6:30] Speaker 1: confused too. When we meet and follow Jesus, life can
[6:34] Speaker 1: be amazing. But sometimes it can still be tough. And
[6:39] Speaker 1: when it's tough or scary or confusing... Does that mean
[6:42] Speaker 1: we were wrong about Jesus? Or that God doesn't really
[6:46] Speaker 1: love us after all? No, not at all. Not even
[6:50] Speaker 1: one teeny, teeny, itty, bitty, eensy, weensy bit. And that's
[6:55] Speaker 1: exactly what the disciples learned in today's story. They got
[6:59] Speaker 1: the biggest, best, most amazing, most fantastic, most wonderful surprise
[7:04] Speaker 1: they could ever imagine. Yes, Jesus had died. He didn't
[7:10] Speaker 1: fake die or let someone else pretend to be him
[7:13] Speaker 1: and take his place. No, the cross was a terrible,
[7:17] Speaker 1: horrible experience that really took Jesus' life away. But because
[7:22] Speaker 1: he was the king of a perfect kingdom, and he
[7:27] Speaker 1: was the way, the truth, and the life, and he
[7:30] Speaker 1: was more powerful than disease or hunger or storms, and
[7:34] Speaker 1: he still is. Jesus just decided to stop being dead.
[7:40] Speaker 1: In that dark, dark grave, Jesus' toes wiggled and then
[7:44] Speaker 1: his feet moved and his knees bent and his back
[7:47] Speaker 1: squirmed and his arms stretched and his mouth smiled and
[7:51] Speaker 1: his eyelids fluttered and fluttered and fluttered until they opened.
[7:55] Speaker 1: Jesus was alive. And it was also exciting that the
[8:01] Speaker 1: earth itself couldn't hold on in its joy. It danced
[8:05] Speaker 1: the only way the earth knows how. And shimmied and
[8:09] Speaker 1: shook until a big earthquake rolled away the stone that
[8:13] Speaker 1: covered Jesus' grave. Light came streaming in. When the guards
[8:19] Speaker 1: saw it, they were so scared they ran away. And
[8:23] Speaker 1: just as the angels had visited earth when Jesus was
[8:26] Speaker 1: born as a baby, they visited again on this special
[8:30] Speaker 1: day to tell everybody even more good news of great news. joy.
[8:35] Speaker 1: Jesus was alive and he's still alive today. You see,
[8:41] Speaker 1: the life that's in Jesus is mightier than anything. Just
[8:46] Speaker 1: as God had filled Adam up with life all the
[8:50] Speaker 1: way back to the beginning in the garden of Eden,
[8:53] Speaker 1: God filled Jesus up with the life in the garden tomb.
[8:57] Speaker 1: But this life was more powerful than Adam's life. Jesus'
[9:02] Speaker 1: life is tougher than any bad or broken thing. It's
[9:06] Speaker 1: bigger than any hurt or harm and stronger than any
[9:09] Speaker 1: sadness or sorrow. The life of Jesus is greater than
[9:13] Speaker 1: even death itself. And that's the life he wants to
[9:18] Speaker 1: share with you and me. When you meet and follow Jesus,
[9:22] Speaker 1: some days will be wonderful and some days will not
[9:26] Speaker 1: be so wonderful. That's no surprise. But God loves you
[9:31] Speaker 1: so much that anything you could face any day, even death,
[9:36] Speaker 1: can separate you from God's love. Not even one teeny
[9:40] Speaker 1: tiny teeny weeny bit. I am so happy you joined
[9:45] Speaker 1: me today. Come back next time to hear how disciples
