Jesus taught about persistent prayer through a story of a widow who kept asking a judge for justice until he finally agreed, highlighting God's care for us. [1:08] Speaker 3: Lepers, Judge, and Pride. In our last story, we learned
[1:14] Speaker 3: about the lost sheep, coins, and sons, and how God
[1:18] Speaker 3: wants to forgive us, and He wants us to rejoice
[1:21] Speaker 3: in forgiveness. In this story... Jesus tells a few stories
[1:26] Speaker 3: to teach us about our relationship to God, as inspired
[1:32] Speaker 3: by the Gospels.
[1:38] Speaker 1: Hi everyone, it's Julianne Thompson, guest hosting for Julia Jeffress Sadler,
[1:42] Speaker 1: here to welcome you back to the Kids Bible in
[1:44] Speaker 1: a Year podcast. Let's dive right in to today's story.
[1:48] Speaker 1: Jesus is going to show us three ways to be
[1:51] Speaker 1: his friend. Listen in.
[1:56] Speaker 3: On Jesus' way to Jerusalem, he came to a village
[1:58] Speaker 3: between Samaria and Galilee. When he came into the village,
[2:03] Speaker 3: ten men with leprosy came to meet him. They did
[2:06] Speaker 3: not get too close because the law at the time
[2:08] Speaker 3: did not allow them to get too close. They all
[2:12] Speaker 3: spoke to him and said, Have mercy on us. Jesus
[2:17] Speaker 3: healed them and said, Go show the priests. One of
[2:21] Speaker 3: them Realizing that he was healed, turned back to Jesus
[2:24] Speaker 3: and fell at Jesus' feet. He was giving Jesus much
[2:28] Speaker 3: praise and thanking God for what he did for him.
[2:32] Speaker 3: This man was a Samaritan. Jesus, seeing this, said, Jesus,
[2:37] Speaker 3: realizing that he was a Samaritan, also said, The only
[2:51] Speaker 3: one that praises God is this foreigner. Jesus helped the
[2:55] Speaker 3: man to his feet and said, Your faith has made
[2:59] Speaker 3: you well. Jesus was then teaching on prayer and to
[3:03] Speaker 3: not get discouraged when you pray. He started to tell
[3:07] Speaker 3: them a story. He said, There was a judge that
[3:10] Speaker 3: lived in a city. This judge did not fear God
[3:13] Speaker 3: or respect people. In the same city, there was a widow.
[3:17] Speaker 3: This widow kept coming to the judge saying, Give me
[3:20] Speaker 3: justice for the man that has done me wrong. The
[3:23] Speaker 3: judge said no at first. The woman kept coming to him,
[3:27] Speaker 3: so the judge finally said yes to the woman so
[3:30] Speaker 3: that the problem would go away. Jesus then said, You
[3:35] Speaker 3: should go to God with the same persistence, but you're
[3:39] Speaker 3: in a better situation than the widow. The judge of
[3:42] Speaker 3: the widow did not care about her and her situation.
[3:46] Speaker 3: Your God does, and he loves you. After this story,
[3:50] Speaker 3: Jesus continued and told another story. He saw that many
[3:55] Speaker 3: people in the crowd felt better than each other. Jesus said,
[4:00] Speaker 3: Two men went into the temple to pray. One of
[4:02] Speaker 3: the men was a Pharisee, and the other person was
[4:06] Speaker 3: a tax collector. The Pharisee, who was praised by the people,
[4:10] Speaker 3: stood in a spot where he could be seen and
[4:13] Speaker 3: prayed this, God, I am happy. I am not like
[4:17] Speaker 3: these other people that are greedy and dishonest or like
[4:21] Speaker 3: the people that are unfaithful to their wives. I am
[4:24] Speaker 3: especially happy. I am not like that tax collector over there.
[4:29] Speaker 3: You know, Lord, that I fast twice a week and
[4:33] Speaker 3: give a tenth of everything I make. The tax collector
[4:36] Speaker 3: stood to the side, away from most of the people.
[4:40] Speaker 3: He prayed to himself and kept hitting himself in the
[4:43] Speaker 3: chest out of shame. The tax collector said, God I
[4:49] Speaker 3: know I am a sinner please have pity on me
[4:52] Speaker 3: Jesus said this to the crowd tax collector went home
[4:56] Speaker 3: justified and the Pharisee did not if you exalt yourself
[5:01] Speaker 3: you will be humbled but if you humble yourself you
[5:07] Speaker 3: will be lifted up.
[5:15] Speaker 1: What great stories we heard today They sure teach us
[5:18] Speaker 1: a lot about how to be in friendship with God.
[5:22] Speaker 1: Let's look at the three things he wants us to
[5:24] Speaker 1: do from each of today's stories. The first is this.
[5:28] Speaker 1: Look up and notice Jesus. He's all around you and
[5:33] Speaker 1: wants to give you good gifts. The first story is
[5:37] Speaker 1: about ten men with the awful disease of leprosy who
[5:40] Speaker 1: came to Jesus for healing. I'm sure they had heard
[5:44] Speaker 1: about all the incredible miracles Jesus had performed. And when
[5:48] Speaker 1: he came to their village, they must have been so excited.
[5:52] Speaker 1: Once Jesus healed them, they were so happy and amazed
[5:55] Speaker 1: that they just ran away, probably to tell everyone they knew.
[6:00] Speaker 1: But one man, just one, stopped in his tracks, turned around,
[6:05] Speaker 1: and remembered Jesus. He noticed that Jesus was the reason
[6:10] Speaker 1: this wonderful day was happening. The Bible says that he
[6:13] Speaker 1: fell at his feet and said, thank you, Jesus. The
[6:18] Speaker 1: Bible also tells us that Jesus reached down and helped
[6:22] Speaker 1: the man off the ground. Then he said, your faith
[6:25] Speaker 1: has made you well. In other words, Jesus said, you
[6:29] Speaker 1: know that the reason you no longer have that terrible
[6:32] Speaker 1: disease is because of me. Not only did you believe
[6:37] Speaker 1: that I could heal you, But when everything was great
[6:40] Speaker 1: and you no longer needed me, you still came back
[6:44] Speaker 1: to say thank you. You remembered me. That's being a
[6:48] Speaker 1: good friend to Jesus. When we wake up each morning,
[6:52] Speaker 1: we should say, Good morning, Jesus. Thank you for giving
[6:56] Speaker 1: me another day. Thank you for making me healthy and
[6:59] Speaker 1: giving me everything I need. That's remembering Jesus. And if
[7:04] Speaker 1: you're having a bad day or in the middle of
[7:06] Speaker 1: something sad, When everything is okay again, don't forget to
[7:11] Speaker 1: say thank you. Don't forget that Jesus is the reason
[7:15] Speaker 1: for every good thing that happens to you. Okay, here's
[7:19] Speaker 1: the second thing God wants us to do. Keep talking
[7:22] Speaker 1: to Jesus, even when you feel no one is listening.
[7:26] Speaker 1: In this next story, Jesus told his followers to keep
[7:29] Speaker 1: praying and seeking God, no matter how tiring it gets.
[7:34] Speaker 1: He tells of a widow, a woman with no husband,
[7:38] Speaker 1: who wanted a judge to hear what someone did to
[7:41] Speaker 1: her and help her. The more he told her to
[7:44] Speaker 1: go away, the more she asked. She just kept asking
[7:48] Speaker 1: and asking and asking until finally he said, Okay, enough already.
[7:52] Speaker 1: I'll do it. Jesus said to be like that widow
[7:55] Speaker 1: when you pray. Keep asking, talking, and coming to Jesus.
[8:00] Speaker 1: He promises to hear you and answer in his perfect timing.
[8:04] Speaker 1: And Jesus reminded his friends of this truth. If that
[8:08] Speaker 1: judge gave the widow what she needed and he didn't
[8:11] Speaker 1: even care about her at all, imagine how God will
[8:14] Speaker 1: take care of you and give you what you need
[8:17] Speaker 1: since he loves you so much. And here's our last
[8:22] Speaker 1: lesson today. Remember, God is big and we are small.
[8:28] Speaker 1: Jesus tells us a story of two men praying in
[8:32] Speaker 1: the temple. The first was a Pharisee, a religious leader
[8:35] Speaker 1: who was great at obeying the law. He stood in
[8:38] Speaker 1: the middle almost as if the spotlight was on him
[8:42] Speaker 1: and prayed so everyone could hear. God, you know how
[8:45] Speaker 1: great I am. I do everything right and I'm so
[8:48] Speaker 1: much better than sinners. Yuck. Then Jesus tells of a
[8:53] Speaker 1: tax collector, a man who was known for cheating and stealing,
[8:57] Speaker 1: standing alone by himself, quietly talking to God. He says
[9:02] Speaker 1: things like, I sinned again, God. Would you please give
[9:05] Speaker 1: me your mercy and forgiveness? I know I don't deserve it.
[9:10] Speaker 1: Jesus said that prayer pleased him most. It was honest
[9:14] Speaker 1: and humble and no one else needed to hear it.
[9:18] Speaker 1: Jesus was saying, pray like.
[9:20] Speaker 2: That tax collector.
[9:22] Speaker 1: Come to me alone in your room and tell me
[9:24] Speaker 1: anything you want. Think about your sin and remember that
[9:28] Speaker 1: you are small and I am big. When you remember that,
[9:32] Speaker 1: I will reward you for it. Thanks for listening so
[9:36] Speaker 1: well today. Let's ask God to help us notice him.
[9:40] Speaker 1: Keep coming to him and to remember he wants us
[9:43] Speaker 1: to be honest about how much we need him. Oh,
[9:46] Speaker 1: and you don't want to miss our next story. It
