[1:31] Speaker 3: lost sheep, coin, and sons, as inspired by the Gospels.
[1:40] Speaker 1: Hi, everyone. It's Julianne Thompson, guest hosting for Julia Jeffress
[1:43] Speaker 1: Sadler here. Welcome back for another story from the Kids
[1:47] Speaker 1: Bible in a Year podcast. Lost and found. That's the
[1:51] Speaker 1: topic of today's story. We're going to see what a
[1:54] Speaker 1: little sheep a coin, and an impatient son all have
[1:58] Speaker 1: in common. Let's dive in.
[2:02] Speaker 4: There were many sinners and tax collectors hanging out with Jesus,
[2:06] Speaker 4: listening to what he.
[2:07] Speaker 3: Had to say.
[2:09] Speaker 4: The religious leaders were surprised that he would eat and
[2:11] Speaker 4: talk with sinners. Jesus went on to tell the people
[2:15] Speaker 4: some stories. There was a shepherd who had.
[2:18] Speaker 3: 100 sheep and one went missing.
[2:22] Speaker 4: He was worried about that one lost sheep and couldn't
[2:25] Speaker 4: let him keep wandering alone. So he left the 99
[2:29] Speaker 4: sheep to go look for the one that was lost
[2:31] Speaker 4: and far from home. When he found the sheep, he
[2:34] Speaker 4: placed it on his shoulders and returned home. When he
[2:38] Speaker 4: was home, he had all of his friends and neighbors
[2:41] Speaker 4: join him in celebrating the lost sheep that was found.
[2:45] Speaker 4: This is how it is in heaven when one sinner
[2:48] Speaker 4: asks for forgiveness. All of heaven rejoices.
[2:52] Speaker 3: Then there was a woman. who had ten coins but
[2:55] Speaker 3: lost one.
[2:56] Speaker 4: She completely searched her house until she found that missing coin.
[3:02] Speaker 4: She put on a light and looked through every part
[3:05] Speaker 4: of her house. She checked under the bed, in all
[3:08] Speaker 4: of her drawers, even under the rug. She did not
[3:11] Speaker 4: stop looking until the coin was found. When she finally
[3:15] Speaker 4: found it, all of her friends and family celebrated the
[3:18] Speaker 4: lost coin being found. The angels in heaven also rejoice
[3:23] Speaker 4: when even one sinner turns to God. There was also
[3:28] Speaker 4: a man with two sons, and he had an inheritance
[3:31] Speaker 4: for each of them. He would make sure that it
[3:34] Speaker 4: was given to them after he died. The youngest son
[3:38] Speaker 4: wanted his inheritance before his father died, so his father
[3:42] Speaker 4: gave it to him.
[3:44] Speaker 3: But it made him very sad.
[3:46] Speaker 4: He loved his son so much that he gave it
[3:49] Speaker 4: to him, even though it broke his heart to see
[3:52] Speaker 4: his son take the money and leave. The son left
[3:55] Speaker 4: home and spent all the money on parties and living
[3:58] Speaker 4: a sinful lifestyle. He continued to spend it until he
[4:02] Speaker 4: ran out of all his inheritance. The son became broke
[4:07] Speaker 4: and had no food to eat, so he went to
[4:09] Speaker 4: hire himself out to a Gentile to work in a
[4:13] Speaker 4: pig pen. He found himself living with pigs and eating
[4:17] Speaker 4: the scraps that were given to them, He realized that
[4:20] Speaker 4: his father's servants ate better than him, and he wanted
[4:23] Speaker 4: to go home. He knew that life would be better
[4:26] Speaker 4: for him if he went back home. He was going
[4:29] Speaker 4: to tell his father that he was sorry and ask
[4:31] Speaker 4: to be one of his servants.
[4:33] Speaker 3: He felt that he was.
[4:34] Speaker 4: No longer worthy enough to be his son because he
[4:37] Speaker 4: wasted his inheritance. When he was almost home, his father
[4:41] Speaker 4: ran over to him and gave him a really big hug.
[4:45] Speaker 4: The son said, Father, I am sorry. I should no
[4:50] Speaker 4: longer be your son because of what I have done.
[4:52] Speaker 4: But his father said to the servants, Get him clothes
[4:57] Speaker 4: and a family ring. Kill the fattest cow so we
[5:01] Speaker 4: can have a feast and celebrate. My son is now
[5:05] Speaker 4: alive and found.
[5:07] Speaker 3: Everyone began to celebrate.
[5:09] Speaker 4: The oldest son wondered why there was a celebration taking place.
[5:14] Speaker 4: He heard that his brother was back and his father
[5:17] Speaker 4: threw him a party. This made him very mad and upset.
[5:21] Speaker 4: He said to his father, I have worked for you
[5:24] Speaker 4: all these years and you have never let me kill
[5:27] Speaker 4: a goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But
[5:30] Speaker 4: when your other son comes back from living a crazy life,
[5:34] Speaker 4: you throw.
[5:35] Speaker 3: Him a party.
[5:37] Speaker 4: The father replied, you are always with me and all
[5:41] Speaker 4: I have is yours. Let us celebrate because your brother
[5:46] Speaker 4: was dead and is now.
[5:50] Speaker 3: He was lost, but now he is found.
[5:58] Speaker 1: Today's story opens with lots of sinners and tax collectors
[6:02] Speaker 1: gathering around Jesus. And no surprise, some angry Pharisees. They
[6:08] Speaker 1: must have been asking each other, why does he always
[6:12] Speaker 1: have to spend so much time with these sinners? They
[6:15] Speaker 1: just didn't get it. But Jesus was about to help
[6:19] Speaker 1: them understand. He shared three parables with the crowd, all
[6:24] Speaker 1: making the same point. Jesus spent time with sinners because
[6:29] Speaker 1: they were the ones who were lost and needed to
[6:32] Speaker 1: be found. The first story is about a shepherd with
[6:35] Speaker 1: 99 sheep and one runaway. Can you imagine leaving 99
[6:42] Speaker 1: sheep to go find that one lost one? Who would
[6:46] Speaker 1: do that? Jesus would. Jesus gives us a beautiful picture
[6:51] Speaker 1: in the story of a loving father who comes to
[6:53] Speaker 1: find us, picks us up, and carries us home on
[6:57] Speaker 1: his shoulders. If you ever feel like because of what
[7:00] Speaker 1: you've done, God is no longer your friend, I hope
[7:04] Speaker 1: you remember.
[7:05] Speaker 3: The picture of the shepherd.
[7:07] Speaker 1: He loves you so much he would never ever leave you.
[7:12] Speaker 1: No matter what you do or where you go, He'll
[7:15] Speaker 1: find you and carry you back home. And then everyone
[7:19] Speaker 1: will celebrate. Jesus said this is what happens in heaven
[7:23] Speaker 1: when one sinner, like a tax collector, asks God for
[7:27] Speaker 1: forgiveness and comes back home to God. All of heaven
[7:31] Speaker 1: throws a party. The second story we heard is about
[7:35] Speaker 1: a woman with 10 coins. We heard that she lost
[7:39] Speaker 1: one and searched her whole house until she found it.
[7:43] Speaker 1: Jesus said that all of her friends and family celebrated
[7:46] Speaker 1: with her again, just like the angels in heaven rejoice
[7:49] Speaker 1: when one sinner comes home. The last story is one
[7:54] Speaker 1: you've probably heard before. We call it the lost son
[7:58] Speaker 1: or the prodigal son. We met a father who loved
[8:02] Speaker 1: his two sons very much. He was going to give
[8:05] Speaker 1: them a lot of money after he died, but his
[8:08] Speaker 1: youngest son just couldn't wait that long. The father gave
[8:12] Speaker 1: him his money early and off he went. Jesus said
[8:15] Speaker 1: it made this father so very sad to see him
[8:18] Speaker 1: leave home. Then, as we heard, the son wasted and
[8:22] Speaker 1: spent all his money. He was so desperate for food
[8:25] Speaker 1: and money that he went to work in a pig pen.
[8:30] Speaker 1: Once this son realized that his father's servants were eating
[8:33] Speaker 1: better than him, he decided to go home with his
[8:36] Speaker 1: head hung low. He must have been thinking things like,
[8:40] Speaker 1: Will my dad say, I told you so? Will he
[8:44] Speaker 1: even let me stay at his house? Will he tell
[8:47] Speaker 1: me how disappointed he is in me? But as we heard,
[8:51] Speaker 1: that's not what happened at all. Jesus said that when
[8:55] Speaker 1: his son was still a long way off, his father
[8:58] Speaker 1: saw him, ran to him, and gave him the biggest
[9:02] Speaker 1: hug ever, a kiss too. The son said, I'm sorry.
[9:07] Speaker 1: And the father said, nevermind. Let's have a huge party
[9:11] Speaker 1: to celebrate your coming home. Just like the lost sheep
[9:16] Speaker 1: and the lost coin and the lost son was found.
[9:20] Speaker 1: And it was time to rejoice. This is such a
[9:24] Speaker 1: great reminder for us. We need to remember that if
[9:27] Speaker 1: and when we ever wander away from God, He is
[9:31] Speaker 1: so happy when we come back home to Him. There
[9:35] Speaker 1: may be times in your life when you stop praying
[9:38] Speaker 1: for a while. Don't really pick up your Bible and
[9:41] Speaker 1: don't go to church much. But when you realize that
[9:45] Speaker 1: you can't live this life without him, and you will
[9:48] Speaker 1: realize that, he's right there, ready to hug you and
[9:52] Speaker 1: welcome you back home. And how about this? Even the
[9:56] Speaker 1: angels are having a party. Thanks for being here today.
[10:00] Speaker 1: next time we're talking about what it looks like to
[10:03] Speaker 1: connect with God through praise prayer and humility and we
[10:08] Speaker 1: can't forget the Bible is the best story ever told
[10:12] Speaker 1: it's God's story to you and it's all true Did
