[1:08] Speaker 3: Elisha versus the Aram soldiers. In our last story, Elisha
[1:14] Speaker 3: healed Naaman of leprosy, but Gehazi tried to get gifts
[1:18] Speaker 3: from Naaman, and then he became leprous. In this story,
[1:23] Speaker 3: the king of Aram will try to capture Elisha And
[1:26] Speaker 3: Elisha will blind his soldiers. As inspired by 2 Kings.
[1:35] Speaker 1: Hey everyone, welcome back. This is Joya Sabler. Thanks for
[1:38] Speaker 1: being here for the Kids Bible in a Year podcast.
[1:42] Speaker 1: In today's story, Elijah was reminded of a spiritual world
[1:47] Speaker 1: that is all around us. And we're also going to
[1:50] Speaker 1: talk about loving our enemies. I know, I know, but
[1:55] Speaker 1: we've got to. Let's listen and see what God has
[1:59] Speaker 1: to say to our hearts today.
[2:03] Speaker 3: There was a war going on with Aram and Israel.
[2:06] Speaker 3: So the king of Aram talked with his soldiers and
[2:10] Speaker 3: told them he was going to set up his tent.
[2:13] Speaker 3: A man sent by God went and told the king
[2:15] Speaker 3: of Israel that he needed to be careful because the
[2:18] Speaker 3: Arameans had set up their tents and were going to
[2:22] Speaker 3: attack them. Elisha warned the king so that he could
[2:26] Speaker 3: be on watch, and this made the king angry. The
[2:29] Speaker 3: king wanted to know if any of his people were
[2:32] Speaker 3: on the side with the Israelites. They all said it
[2:36] Speaker 3: was none of them. The king wanted to find Elisha,
[2:40] Speaker 3: so he sent his soldiers out to search for him,
[2:43] Speaker 3: and they found him in Dothan. His soldiers surrounded the city.
[2:47] Speaker 3: When Elisha's servants saw the soldiers surrounding the city, they
[2:50] Speaker 3: immediately told him. The servants were scared that they might
[2:54] Speaker 3: all get attacked and started to worry, so they asked
[2:58] Speaker 3: Elisha what to do, and Elisha told them, Do not worry,
[3:02] Speaker 3: because we have more soldiers than the Arameans. Elisha prayed
[3:07] Speaker 3: to God and asked him to show him what he saw,
[3:10] Speaker 3: and God showed him horses and chariots of fire around
[3:13] Speaker 3: Elisha and his people. So Elisha asked God to make
[3:18] Speaker 3: all the Aramean soldiers blind, and God did. While they
[3:22] Speaker 3: were blind, Elisha told them that they were at the
[3:25] Speaker 3: wrong place and that he would guide them to where
[3:28] Speaker 3: they needed to be. And he took them to Samaria.
[3:32] Speaker 3: When they got there, the king of Samaria asked Elisha
[3:35] Speaker 3: if he should kill them. Elisha said, don't kill them,
[3:39] Speaker 3: but feed them and allow them to go back to
[3:41] Speaker 3: their land. So that's what the king did. The king
[3:45] Speaker 3: threw them a feast and sent them on their way
[3:49] Speaker 3: to Aram.
[3:54] Speaker 1: That was a pretty close call for those Arameans. As
[3:58] Speaker 1: we enter the scene of today's story, a war is
[4:00] Speaker 1: taking place between Israel and a place called Aram. When
[4:04] Speaker 1: the king of Aram set up his tent in a
[4:07] Speaker 1: hiding place, he became frustrated when the king of Israel
[4:11] Speaker 1: kept finding him there. He eventually learned that Elisha was
[4:16] Speaker 1: why this king kept hearing about their secrets. So he
[4:20] Speaker 1: set off to find him. It was then that Elisha
[4:24] Speaker 1: told his servant not to worry and said there were
[4:27] Speaker 1: more with Israel than with the Arameans. Wait a second.
[4:33] Speaker 1: Hold everything. How is that possible? The Bible says that
[4:36] Speaker 1: the king of Aram sent a great army with many
[4:40] Speaker 1: chariots and horses to surround the city. So then how
[4:44] Speaker 1: did the Israelites have more than the Arameans? The chariots
[4:49] Speaker 1: and horses were there all along, and they just couldn't
[4:53] Speaker 1: see them. Elisha asked God to show his servant all
[4:57] Speaker 1: the horses and chariots of fire around Elisha, and he did.
[5:02] Speaker 1: Sometimes it's strange to think about, but according to God's word,
[5:07] Speaker 1: many things happen around us that we don't see. That's
[5:11] Speaker 1: because we are living and breathing in.
[5:13] Speaker 2: The physical world.
[5:15] Speaker 1: Your physical world is the world around you. The world
[5:19] Speaker 1: that you can see. You see trees and clouds, smell
[5:22] Speaker 1: flowers and skunks, yuck, and hear birds chirping and dogs barking.
[5:28] Speaker 1: You can hug a parent, taste a cheeseburger, or sit
[5:32] Speaker 1: by a warm fire when you're cold and shivering. But
[5:36] Speaker 1: there's another world around us. It's a world we can't see.
[5:40] Speaker 1: And it's called the spiritual world. Although that might sound
[5:45] Speaker 1: a little scary, it's not at all. One day when
[5:48] Speaker 1: you get to heaven, you'll get to see with your
[5:51] Speaker 1: actual eyes everything going on in the spiritual world. And
[5:56] Speaker 1: do you want to know the best thing about the
[5:59] Speaker 1: spiritual world? There are angels watching over you. For whatever reason,
[6:06] Speaker 1: Elisha's servant was not able to see the army of
[6:09] Speaker 1: horses and chariots God had provided for the Israelites. But
[6:14] Speaker 1: when Elisha asked God to show him, he saw them
[6:17] Speaker 1: all right. And he probably breathed a huge sigh of relief.
[6:23] Speaker 1: Because things on this earth can sometimes be sad and terrible.
[6:27] Speaker 1: It's important for us to remember that there is more
[6:30] Speaker 1: to this world than what we can see, hear, taste,
[6:34] Speaker 1: or touch right now. There is more going on in
[6:37] Speaker 1: God's world and one day we will get to be
[6:41] Speaker 1: a part of it for good. At the end of
[6:44] Speaker 1: today's story, Elisha asks God to make the soldiers from
[6:48] Speaker 1: Aram blind. And he does. Elisha leads them away to
[6:53] Speaker 1: Samaria but tells the king there not to harm them.
[6:57] Speaker 1: He says to give them something to eat and drink
[7:00] Speaker 1: and then send them back home. And that's just what
[7:03] Speaker 1: he did. Elisha could have told the king to kill
[7:07] Speaker 1: those soldiers or lock them up forever. But he didn't.
[7:11] Speaker 1: And do you know who that reminds me of? When
[7:15] Speaker 1: Jesus was on the earth, he talked about how he
[7:18] Speaker 1: wants us to treat our enemies. He said things like,
[7:22] Speaker 1: love your enemies and do good to those who hate you.
[7:27] Speaker 1: If someone forces you to go with him one mile,
[7:31] Speaker 1: go with him too. If someone hits you on the cheek,
[7:35] Speaker 1: give him the other cheek. If your enemy is thirsty,
[7:38] Speaker 1: give him something to drink. If you think that sounds crazy,
[7:43] Speaker 1: it does to our world. Because that's not how people
[7:46] Speaker 1: live here. But Jesus once again calls us to be
[7:50] Speaker 1: different and set apart. And just like Elijah, we can
[7:55] Speaker 1: show kindness to those who want to hurt us. That is,
[7:59] Speaker 1: with the help of the living Spirit of God inside
[8:02] Speaker 1: of us. Thanks for listening to today's story. Be sure
[8:06] Speaker 1: to come back next time and hear about some really
[8:09] Speaker 1: good news from four hungry lepers. Yep, you heard that right.
[8:14] Speaker 1: And don't forget, the Bible is the best story ever told.
[8:18] Speaker 1: It's God's story to you. And it's all true. If
[8:23] Speaker 1: this podcast brought you joy and seems like a valuable
