[1:38] Make unknown leave to be a second person with that wanted in connection with
[1:44] the robbery or the third National Banks. So alright, what's going on in
[1:59] here? About time? You're waking up? Pop? A mob and the
[2:01] great today just cleaned out the plate? Yeah, I heard all the first
[2:05] the way he's down on the street, that come hot, putting it up
[2:07] here as fast as the good anything I can do on a lieutenant, handle
[2:10] the thing that retiring you next month. Pop, you're getting so slow you
[2:15] can't even give out a pocket cricket. Get shutting. There's plenty alive left
[2:20] these dogs, even if they do bark at times when this happens or just
[2:23] a few minutes ago, and then they get away in a big car.
[2:25] It all happened so quick. Nobody seemed to have a good idea of what
[2:29] happened. Gag, Yeah, how many of them? In order to reports
[2:31] Dipper, some sake ten comes, take twel It's more like an army.
[2:36] These gangsters are getting a lot of crush down there. Crush. They're getting
[2:39] a lot of dough. Yes, me, they won't do them no good.
[2:42] These ways they're wooden. Back in the old days, we didn't put
[2:46] up those things like this when I was your age, who captain bread and
[2:50] fall so many times? I know if my heart, we're looking in a
[2:54] changing age. Pop high powered cards, the machine guns. Changed on your
[2:59] methods. The reason they're shoving you. They need young blood and young brain.
[3:02] Right. Always said you had more brains than your feet. You did
[3:06] your head. I used to tell you a pup, but you were Yeah,
[3:09] I know. But I'm on the fourth and the retire and you only
[3:13] because I wanted to go. Who's on the job. The Pennant Myers another
[3:17] young punk, according to you, is in the opposite of president over there
[3:23] the mosy and he gives things once over, okay, but if he throws
[3:27] you out, don't blame me. I't worries another come hop burned up and
[3:31] I hit him about his retirement. Yeah, and depending all his life on
[3:36] the forest. Propa Drada died and attire. Look at them go barging into
[3:39] that door, locking you on the place. The thanks the for yees see.
[3:50] But they're very up shifted from the Federal Reserve to meet these factors.
[3:53] I see and oh, hello, Pop, that's aforble. This is not
[3:58] the letters pop out of you. Do you sit down on the top.
[4:02] I'm right in the middle of this thing. We're at a head. How
[4:05] much are you offer perform? Well, just finished up to check uppy.
[4:09] It's more than one hundred and ninety outs. Who knew the money was coming
[4:12] here? Let's stop it. No one except myself to me that it was
[4:14] coming. I was the only one who knew that that money would arrive here
[4:16] at exactly five minutes afters Well, what transaction did you make with the Federal
[4:20] Reserve? Well, I made the requisitions and the money over my private phone
[4:24] about ten o'clock this morning. Ten o'clock Tom looked at the twelve five.
[4:29] That mob may fast time. He's unbelievable. I can't understand how the information
[4:32] leaks out. Why even if the precaution were sending my own sons with the
[4:35] money in my car, Oh sent your son? But yeah, but William,
[4:41] that's my tut didn't have any idea that he was going after I did
[4:45] him to believe that I was sending him at this little non negotiable security strains
[4:48] that no assent was made to take the money while I was in his possession.
[4:51] Yes, you tell me as nearly as you can just what happened.
[4:55] Well, yeah, I was just coming out of my office when I know
[4:59] just what to deer. Rather unusually large number of customers get it about the
[5:02] lovelies. Certainly one of the men tried out. It is a stickup.
[5:05] Don't anybody reach the alarm? Oh Taylor, that that watchman amailing around the
[5:12] corner with the gun in his hand, and it's one of them shopping.
[5:15] He's a good friend of mine. How is it? We don't know your
[5:17] top You say the whole transaction was made over your private home. Was there
[5:23] anyone else in your office at the time. I can't remember the Miss Hues
[5:28] was in that time, And no, no, I'm sure she wasn'tout do
[5:30] anything shopping. It was almost the lunch hower. You know. It's hugely
[5:34] your my secretary, I see. Oh, it's an inside job, someone
[5:40] inside this. Thank you about the money transfer. You all about it.
[5:43] What's more, they had a gang standing by and readiness for a break like
[5:46] this. Thinkable you've been robbed. That's evidence enough for you. But I
[5:49] was the only one to know about the money that someone else knew about it.
[5:55] That is, unless you had the money stolen yourself. It is highly
[5:58] fand agested. George send in the bank and the race took place. I
[6:01] don't know, was miss Hughes, I think so, yeah it is.
[6:06] I'm sure that. Yes, miss here, I remember distinctly one of the
[6:11] sudden wasn't the great in my private office with again and the us just return
[6:15] for lunch? She said, this is a shopping tour it was. I
[6:18] presume she had lens at the same time. Did Miss Hughes see the bandits?
[6:24] Yeah? It was quite a sea the ender the office, missus hid
[6:27] it is? Yeah, the brave young lady wasn't it? Would I see
[6:31] her? There's no reason for that, Pop, I'm inscitable right now?
[6:35] Where is your son? Where? The girl may know? She won't know
[6:40] anymore than the rest of these people, didn't like Everyone was standing around here
[6:43] like a white image, and the place was thick with alarm. The side.
[6:46] I'm busy and you won't mind the no? Okay, oh you miss
[7:01] yes, thank you're going out. Yeah, there is more than I can
[7:05] send. Michter Forbes has given me the rest of the day off. I
[7:10] see. My name is Adams. Adams to the boys station. Mister Forbes
[7:15] tells me that one of the bandits sports his way into his office. That's
[7:19] right, Well why did he come in? Yeah? There there wasn't any
[7:23] money in yell, was there? No? Forbes tards me that you were
[7:27] very raised girl. They just threw an ink? Well at the man,
[7:30] yes, but what comes in that action? Well, not that tail not
[7:35] if you don't care to well, I don't mind telling you, but I
[7:40] don't want it in the newspapers. Why did you hit it? Because because
[7:45] he kissed me, I can't say that I blame him. And where did
[7:50] you hit him? I don't know. On his chest. I think he
[7:55] must have got an ink. I mean sure I didn't know it. If
[8:00] we can get him, Mister Bob said that you had been out shopping.
[8:05] Where were you in motail? Oh? Would you always do your shopping in
[8:09] a man's store? No? What, I was buying something, something for
[8:13] my brother? You better w'd you buy it? Really? Mister Adams,
[8:18] I can't say the sense and all of this. I'm tired. I've had
[8:20] more than I can find. I'm going home. I'm sure we had no
[8:24] objection to, lad, but I would like to know what you've bought for
[8:28] your brother. Well, if you must know, I've bought him a shirt.
[8:33] Shut that's funny. You know. If I wasn't a sensible top,
[8:37] I'd figured that maybe I had this thing all arranged, that your brother led
[8:43] this gang, and you bought a shirt to take place with the one you
[8:48] were going to smear up with that intware. You can think what you please,
[8:52] TONI would it make any difference if I told you that my brother is
[8:54] working in a lumber camp about two thousand miles from here. I can see
[8:58] even a dumb top I play that, mister. It would just put more
[9:03] questions. Did you get a good look at the man? Yes? And
[9:05] I've already given the other officer a full description. Now I'm going home.
[9:09] Any objections, all very well, that's a new good, oh opera.
[9:22] This is important, all Lieutenant in my eyes, and tell him the top
[9:24] Adams is following this. Hue called to see that she is in time.
[9:28] That is good, Thank you having me tennant. Nothing new, Mike.
[9:54] If you heard from Pop Adam that kind is crazy in the fruit because you're
[9:58] sticking around outside the shoes he's a partner of sixty is three o'clock said,
[10:01] he's a pree the gang. I'll try to silence him. Well, let
[10:05] him have his little fun. He's being retired. That last song calls probably
[10:09] run Tommy pool and Tommy free falls? Or who runs who? Who?
[10:13] And who freed the corner of substance sponsor or bron bomber? Did you hear
[10:16] that? Colom? The prone man step on the night that bred pop adamses
[10:22] and he's in trouble. We'll tid him around here. Look tennant, Look
[10:37] that's one of these people, right, hey, you yell? You have
[10:39] a copper around here? Anybody else sing? Noon? We all heard the
[10:43] shots and the woman's screamed. But we want too late to see what happens.
[10:48] Everybody says the cart on that great man, He shouldn't look the player
[10:52] over there, blood. Here's a cat too. It's tost chap. Looks
[11:00] like they plucked them and took them for a ride. There's something else on
[11:01] the road, brother. Down there, it's a cold sleeve and there's the
[11:05] rest of his cotana head. Come on, Lieutenant hop trying to leave.
[11:09] What's the trail? We've got to find it? And follow it. Yeah,
[11:30] what'd you find this? Then his head? I got sure that we
[11:33] lost the trail back without lampfolds down and down in lieutenant head, it looks
[11:39] like a shoe. You need the shoes. Come on, I take it
[11:43] easy. We find up where we are. Look, he has a shoe
[11:48] right outside of this door. Get your gun. I'm going through it.
[11:54] But the love up, tea. Let's never get here. Those guys like
[12:00] I got them now. I want to move you mob child in Autolia.
[12:03] The whole packet that my grandfriend and he's run for got an hour, two
[12:09] weeks to walk from to a phone. Let me buy that room for you,
[12:15] all right, I started bleeding now, they's two slugs of my right
[12:20] shouldren. When they came up with the girl, the girl's huge. I
[12:24] said them here the best they could leaven things for you to follow, And
[12:28] I got in here. I slipped in on them. You'd never get here
[12:33] today, right, let's huge. Ear. I mean I almost had the
[12:37] knocker for a roller lamp posted. I guess you mean got locked in the
[12:41] room below. They're sweet. He rung this mob. Yah, at least
[13:05] that's better. Just the second LEA Sector inspector Kenney. This is Professor Temple
[13:13] at bloom Thiel's University. Okay, here immediately, might want a matter is
[13:20] the greatest important? Certainly not things to be wrong that I would rather fair.
[13:26] Well, then I will be there in fifteen minutes. Thanks, I'm
[13:33] leaving for bloom Thield University on an investigation. Have Adams take over the bed,
[13:56] that is, and Inspector Kenny had brought called Professor Richards Jones. Let
[14:03] me take your head, inspector, thinker, Pessor Richards is expecting you.
[14:07] She'll be right in. Oh, Professor Richards is a woman. Yes,
[14:11] you followed her work only now then in the magazine. And perhaps you don't
[14:16] know that he's considered one of the greatest brain space. Let's alive. She
[14:20] was recently awarded. Oh there you are, Professor Richards. How do you
[14:26] do? Shold him? Nothing? Mother, I thought it would be better
[14:31] to wait until you arrived. Then we could talk of the story together.
[14:33] Very well. Let us be seeing okay, uh, you meaning Professor Mark
[14:39] Mathematicians. Yes, he died the day before yesterday, so the paper it
[14:45] wasn't new to Scientific World inspective. Professor Mars has been expecting death for the
[14:48] past six months he had a very serious forma pocasy. The greatest hot specialist
[14:54] in the world have given him up for day. Progress of Professor Mark will
[14:58] be a sad blow to sign. However, he may be of greater value
[15:03] dead than alive. And how did you mean that? Aren't you getting ahead
[15:07] of the story, Martha? So perhaps I asked what I had Professor Temple
[15:11] called for to day, Inspectors, if you help us with a very delicate
[15:13] situation, tell me true, I shall do that. The situation is precisely
[15:20] this. Professor Mark died at four o'clock the day before Yesterday afternoon, at
[15:24] five his body was transported to the Williams and Randall Mortuary and in bombed that
[15:28] night. The attendant reported leaving the mortuary at midnight. At seven o'clock the
[15:35] next morning, the body was gone gone. Yes if the first boss that
[15:41] perhaps had had been removed at the corners off, but later investigations showed that
[15:46] it had mocked. Why on earth should anyone want to see a body here?
[15:50] This note which I received this morning will answer that quest. Leave the
[15:58] prepared to aur Agent's the son of twenty five thousand dollars and the body of
[16:04] Professor Mark will be returned to you within twenty four hours. I know it
[16:11] sounds rather incredible. Space We're prepared to pay the man. But what would
[16:15] you want with the Professor Marcu's body? This paper dated six months ago will
[16:19] answer that it's rather than I'll read only the part of your intercut, and
[16:26] so, in consideration for the above mentioned terms and sipuations, upon my death,
[16:30] I agree that my attorney shall deliver to Professor Marca Richards and her associate,
[16:34] Professor Alden Temple, the brain for my dead body. Said brain to
[16:40] be used in scientific research for the advancement of mankind, signs Professor Adolph Mark.
[16:47] There's a document duly signed and sea and the price. The price for
[16:51] Professor Mark's brain was fifty thousand dollars to be paid by us to his knee,
[16:56] Auntie, you unlawtedly held Professor Marc's brain to be of high that yes,
[17:00] I ask what you intended doing with it. Professor Marx was one of
[17:03] the most bringed men of the age. His mind was regarded as the most
[17:07] highly developed of any man in the human race. It is only natural that
[17:11] we, that is, Professor Temple and myself should be interested in securing the
[17:14] brain for examination. I see, so the matter of the rain before the
[17:18] properer forces and all we had to do was wait for Professor Mark's death,
[17:22] which is an editence as an editor caution. Professor Temple suggested that we ensure
[17:26] the brain against them insurance. Yes, you see, Professor Marx traveled a
[17:30] great deal in spite of his coffee. We were afraid that he might die
[17:34] and as collisioner in some accidental manner which would themage a delicate brain cell.
[17:38] I see. We accordingly insured the brain of the Athletic company for one hundred
[17:42] thousand dollars. Oh, why is that a large amount, Professor Richardson,
[17:47] so that we might cover the original fifty thousand we had agreed to pay in
[17:49] fifty thousand for the damage to our plans. Oh do you have any idea
[17:52] who this person who signs his name tree Vyne is not the flight, do
[17:56] you, Professor Temple? No, how many persons preside yourself knew what you
[18:02] were intending to do is shoes. We were successful in keeping the details of
[18:06] the transaction of the newspapers as it was. One reporter discovered the story,
[18:11] and we had some difficulty in persuading him not to prety. No, that's
[18:12] an interesting point. Who is the reporter, he's Bird Adams the columns and
[18:18] said he unfortunately he knew everything. He was given a duplicate the agreement if
[18:22] you see in front of you, but it's not from Professor Markston. And
[18:26] how did you succeed in suppressing the news? Well, the Professor Temple gave
[18:30] the reporter a gift. I bribe. How much it cost us five hundred
[18:37] dollars. I got off cheaply at that. If I know Bird Adams,
[18:40] when did it not arrive? Did you think this morning? And you've told
[18:42] Noran, I've a decrepted not out. No Ah, Professor Richards, I'll
[18:47] do what I can. Don't make the news of this republic until I've had
[18:49] a few hours to work on the case. What procedure new contemplating inspector,
[18:53] No, honestly the attendant of the mortuary. Then I'll have to talk with
[18:56] this keyhold artist Bird Adams, spot pilight of this evening here. Oh you
[19:23] know, I take this, Yeah, take a Yeah, here's Bird Adams
[19:26] or it is death. It is not the laddest scam. Yeah, sure,
[19:30] over Oh, Adam. Well, well, well, i's just my
[19:37] old famous spectaginna here I have a chance a lighter as the guy tell me
[19:41] what's new? Not so fast, Adam, Oh you mean he didn't come
[19:44] here with news and only thirty minutes the headline, Oh, come on,
[19:47] expected to be a right guy? Give me some news, you know.
[19:49] He whole shirt off the phrase, I'm ruined for your trying of news,
[19:53] Adam. We're gonna talk a few minutes right here, I mean in private.
[19:56] Oh step pride in here him and the old man said, uh uh,
[20:04] that's on your mind, Kenny. I've got the news for you,
[20:07] but it's going to cost you sure good. Tell nobody ever called Bert Adams
[20:11] the chiefs skate. I pay for my dirt, buy it for the ton
[20:14] I know that's the dope. Professor Marx is dead old stuff. I scooped
[20:18] the tone and that the day before yesterday, last night, his body was
[20:21] stolen from a mortuary downtown. What but the love of Mike, this is
[20:25] hot news. Wait, so I rush off a lead on it. Man,
[20:27] Not so fast. The news will keep. There's not another paper in
[20:30] the country. It was ann mile of it. So much the better you
[20:33] don't print the news until you hear my price. What is your price,
[20:37] Kenny? I want to know what you had to do with the roomoval of
[20:38] the body. Oh so you've been toll ow Professor Richards day and you get
[20:41] it while you're answering nothing. I didn't know nothing about it until you told
[20:45] me right now. But you were the only one and knew of the deal
[20:48] Professor Richards and Professor Temper made for the brain. I know it, but
[20:51] I didn't have anything to do with the disappearance. Why did I keep a
[20:53] dead body? Why did I do with it? Knowing how badly the professors
[20:56] wanted it? You'd got a blackmail and for twenty five thousand dollars. Oh,
[21:00] they wouldn't say it as they would and if I don't recover, they'll
[21:03] do just that, no kidding. That's given to you a straight kid.
[21:06] Even as far as insuring it for one hundred thousand bucks, well, then
[21:08] here's a straight dope inspector. I don't know anything about it, not a
[21:14] thing. So if I have any other leads, don't waste any time on
[21:15] me. The only thing I'm asking you is to let me run the store,
[21:18] and you forget the five hundred bucks, Professor Temple, give you a
[21:22] kill story of the deal. Well, I didn't run it, did I?
[21:25] I won't say anything about it now. You'll only just let me say,
[21:27] Inspector, don't you have to keep a body on ice or something for
[21:33] forgetting that? Adam? Just you let me run that story. And here's
[21:36] what I do for you. I'll take the whole thing and me And do
[21:56] you mean inspected? Give me? Yes? He said the light you ask
[22:00] him? Not? Pree? You so connected downstairs? Ron, He certainly
[22:07] have a nice home here. And sorry I was too late to catch at
[22:11] the university. That's quite all right. Do you do much experimenting here?
[22:15] You see, we're not well enough to quick. I was wondering. So
[22:18] you wanted to see him? Was all? He takes Achilles with you,
[22:22] he nest I went to the mortuary. I don't know if I was supposed
[22:26] to be an all night attendant. He told me a rather odd story.
[22:30] Indeed, yeah, he said that after the morgue attendant laughter, around midnight,
[22:33] that he was patrolling one of the corridors when the light went out for
[22:37] a minute. He said, the volley was wandering around looking for the fuse.
[22:40] He started a pin break in his arms, and then a few minutes
[22:42] later the light went on. How long were they off? Only a few
[22:45] minutes later he got very sleepy and doze off at the pin break. He
[22:49] thought was undottedly a shot in the arms on drug and the body was stolen
[22:53] during the time he was asleep. But who could do a thing like that,
[22:57] someone with a knowledge of drugst noise? That was like someone in the
[23:03] basement, quick bother. Either one of you move into that door open?
[23:07] So what are you? Don't move into that door open? Yeah? Respect,
[23:11] we have joke. Good right, the old guy's down there. Hey,
[23:14] look great there, try to run past me with you by Adams.
[23:19] I'm sorry, Professor Richard, you're under arrest for fraud. Just what do
[23:23] you mean? Don't you act so innocent? But Inspector Kenny got you to
[23:26] call kept out of the base. Knight clip down and I find a nice
[23:30] beat restricerator down there with a body of Professor Marx in it. You can't
[23:33] do a thing. Oh that's where you're a mistaken. You thought you could
[23:37] fool everybody with that note. You thought you could make us believe that somebody
[23:41] was holding Professor Marx's body bar ransom and it was a little bit too far
[23:44] fetched, right, you are inspector is. As I got to looking around,
[23:48] I found out that you couldn't possibly. I have paid fifty thousand dollars
[23:51] for the brain it's called for in your agreement. You don't have the money.
[23:53] What's more, the university is up to it. The neck and dead
[23:56] in the bank is threatening the poor close You thought you could beat the d
[24:00] company out of one hundred thousand dollars and the brain designs You stole that,
[24:04] buddy, and you know it. Welcome back. You've definitely see some of
[24:26] the uh less pleasant parts of previous times. In the first episode uh with
[24:34] the police with the police officers comment to the woman witnesses account of being kissed
[24:44] by the robber. Also, the other thing with this episode is the voice
[24:49] of the policeman. It's something I used to get a lot of comments on
[24:53] the Dragnet show where actors would sound really old playing older people, and there
[25:02] was case cases for on Dragonet where they were playing you know, retirees and
[25:07] things like that. In this case, though, it seems a bit odd
[25:12] since this person is a policeman, and similarly even though they're nearing retirement and
[25:19] a bit older. Sounded a little feeble to be believable on that. I
[25:26] like the second one, the stolen Brain. That was an interesting case with
[25:30] a good premise and a not a solution. Again, you have one of
[25:38] those stories where the vital solving clue comes from somebody other than the police.
[25:45] But it definitely made sense and it was a bold certainly a bold plan because
[25:55] they they called the police in on themselves in effect, but that was necessary
[26:00] to make it look genuine and above suspicion, and so overall that was a
[26:07] pretty good episode. Next week will be our final episodes of Police Headquarters and
[26:17] then coming in two weeks we'll be getting in to Dragnet, so lots of
[26:23] excitement ahead now quickly. Some listener comments and feedback from our listeners in Canada
[26:32] and app review from Gary says, I love this app. Listen to it
[26:37] every morning on the bus ride to work. If you love old time radio
[26:41] detective tims, you must have this app. And from Frustration six to eight
[26:48] one says if you enjoy old time radio detectives, this is for you.
[26:52] Well, I appreciate your comments and review and that will actually do it for
[26:59] today, we will. I'll be back on Monday with pursuit and join us
[27:03] back here next Saturday for our last visit with police headquarters. In the meantime,
