[0:09] Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to this episode of Keep It Positive.
[0:11] Speaker 1: Sweetie guys, I am so excited about this episode. I
[0:16] Speaker 1: have none other than my boss, the biggest boss, multi hyphan.
[0:21] Speaker 1: You are an author, You are a writer, a director,
[0:25] Speaker 1: a philanthropist, a father, everything, Tyler Perry, My god, hey.
[0:34] Speaker 2: Like, I literally feel like this is my first time
[0:35] Speaker 2: doing this. I was so nervous.
[0:36] Speaker 3: I could like, that's so crazy because we talk all
[0:39] Speaker 3: the time.
[0:41] Speaker 2: I just wanted to make you proud to do this right.
[0:43] Speaker 3: I'm already proud. I'm already proud of the other episodes.
[0:45] Speaker 3: I'm proud at the title. You got to tell me
[0:47] Speaker 3: how that came out?
[0:48] Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, it came about because I had a young lady,
[0:53] Speaker 1: actually had posted a young woman's work who helped me
[0:55] Speaker 1: organize my closet.
[0:57] Speaker 2: And this woman got on.
[0:58] Speaker 1: She was like, all this bragging and boasting, you need
[1:01] Speaker 1: to go buy some land or a house.
[1:04] Speaker 2: I said, I had time. Normally ig nor block leave. Yeah,
[1:09] Speaker 2: we got time today.
[1:10] Speaker 1: My little fingers got the turtin and I was like,
[1:12] Speaker 1: I said, what you should look is I'm supporting another
[1:14] Speaker 1: woman's business and not looking at it from a negative standpoint.
[1:18] Speaker 2: I just put hashtag keep it positive.
[1:20] Speaker 4: Sweetie, Oh okay.
[1:21] Speaker 1: And it grew legs. My fans were like, it's just
[1:23] Speaker 1: like literally went crazy. Deanora. We were trying to come
[1:26] Speaker 1: with a title for the podcast, and she's like, a's
[1:28] Speaker 1: the time I think of you, I think of abundance.
[1:31] Speaker 1: And in that moment, I was like, in the back
[1:32] Speaker 1: of my hand, I said, what if it's not always
[1:34] Speaker 1: like this? Yeah, abundant? Like what if my life is
[1:37] Speaker 1: it was crazy? Lad just gotch thinking about it.
[1:40] Speaker 4: And what if your life wasn't.
[1:42] Speaker 2: Always isn't always like this? Wasn't always because abundance.
[1:45] Speaker 1: She's like, every time I think of you, I think
[1:47] Speaker 1: of abundance, And a part of me was like, but
[1:49] Speaker 1: what if it's not always like this?
[1:52] Speaker 4: And you know where that came from. We can get into.
[1:55] Speaker 2: That, but we can definitely get into that.
[1:57] Speaker 3: That is clearly just that unfed there uh fear from
[2:02] Speaker 3: childhood or something that somebody said to you or something
[2:05] Speaker 3: that somebody uh planted in you that immediately make you
[2:08] Speaker 3: think this isn't gonna last always.
[2:10] Speaker 4: Yes, And that is.
[2:11] Speaker 3: A horrible, horrible sinking feeling and it's also a lie,
[2:15] Speaker 3: but it can serve you well because it can motivate
[2:19] Speaker 3: you to keep going and work even harder.
[2:22] Speaker 4: So that's what I used it for. I used to
[2:23] Speaker 4: hear it. I don't hear no more, don't hear I think.
[2:27] Speaker 2: I'm all right now, you are all right? You all right.
[2:30] Speaker 1: So we were brainstorming and I was like, you know,
[2:33] Speaker 1: I want to get a little segment on the show
[2:34] Speaker 1: called keep a Positive Speedy, and they're like, that's the
[2:37] Speaker 1: name of the show of the show, and that's how
[2:38] Speaker 1: it came up with it.
[2:39] Speaker 4: That's great.
[2:40] Speaker 3: I don't like addressing haters, but that's good. I'm plaided
[2:43] Speaker 3: something great came out because people, you know, in social media,
[2:46] Speaker 3: in this world, they're sitting around nothing to do, and
[2:50] Speaker 3: and and what what you have to understand about people
[2:53] Speaker 3: who post negative things like that the algorithms in social media,
[2:58] Speaker 3: if you click on something negative, you're only going to
[3:01] Speaker 3: get fed negativity. So the negativity is showing up in
[3:04] Speaker 3: their lives with in other things. And if you keep
[3:07] Speaker 3: letting that stuff in everything negative, everything, negative, everything, gossip, everything,
[3:12] Speaker 3: is that your life is going to become that. So
[3:15] Speaker 3: I'm very much about keeping a positive sweetie, and staying
[3:18] Speaker 3: and staying and staying clear of all of that foolishness.
[3:22] Speaker 2: Yeah, you do a really good job of that.
[3:24] Speaker 4: I try to, I try to. I don't. I don't
[3:26] Speaker 4: let it in. I'll stop.
[3:27] Speaker 3: If somebodys talking about somebody in front of me, a god,
[3:30] Speaker 3: we don't do that.
[3:31] Speaker 2: Here, cut it off quick.
[3:32] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love you.
[3:34] Speaker 2: Yeah, I know they're talking about me. You're not gonna
[3:36] Speaker 2: let them.
[3:36] Speaker 4: Talk about me.
[3:37] Speaker 2: No, no, no, I'll fight somebody you no.
[3:41] Speaker 3: No, no, somebody tell me somebody's in. You will if
[3:45] Speaker 3: somebody's in, And if you're telling me something because there's
[3:49] Speaker 3: a situation that we need to help. That's different, but
[3:51] Speaker 3: not just to be No. No, if you ain't got
[3:53] Speaker 3: no solutions to what people are going through, no offering
[3:56] Speaker 3: trying to help, don't. Don't bring that to me.
[3:58] Speaker 2: No, No, that's real love that. I love that.
[4:01] Speaker 1: I want to do a little story time. We're gonna
[4:02] Speaker 1: go back till when it first started. When I first
[4:06] Speaker 1: started working at Tyler Perry Studios as a PA. The
[4:09] Speaker 1: first thing they told me, do not look at him
[4:12] Speaker 1: in the eyes, don't speak to him when you see him,
[4:15] Speaker 1: don't do that.
[4:15] Speaker 2: I was like, okay, and I don't know.
[4:17] Speaker 4: I don't even know what gear was it?
[4:18] Speaker 1: Because I twenty twelve going into thirteen when we started
[4:21] Speaker 1: happening to have not.
[4:22] Speaker 4: Who was starting all this ship?
[4:25] Speaker 2: Don't keep you absolutely who.
[4:27] Speaker 3: Was starting all this ship? Because I hear rumors too.
[4:29] Speaker 3: But then oh, oh, don't look, don't talk to don't
[4:31] Speaker 3: do I'm like, what do you Where does this come from?
[4:33] Speaker 2: I don't know?
[4:34] Speaker 4: Somebody told you that?
[4:35] Speaker 1: Yes, that was like a part of like my getting
[4:37] Speaker 1: the ropes, learning the ropes, Like so if you ever
[4:39] Speaker 1: see him, like, don't get on the elevator, And it
[4:41] Speaker 1: reminded me of Capitol Hill when I worked on the Hills,
[4:43] Speaker 1: like if you see a Senate on the elevator, do
[4:45] Speaker 1: not go on.
[4:46] Speaker 2: If they're on the train going to the Capitol. Wait.
[4:48] Speaker 1: And I had an Obama incident where I was running
[4:50] Speaker 1: trying to get some papers to the floor of the
[4:52] Speaker 1: Senate and he was on the train and I was
[4:55] Speaker 1: like trying to get on there real quick.
[4:56] Speaker 2: And I saw him and I ran back. He said
[4:58] Speaker 2: come on.
[4:58] Speaker 1: I was like you sure, He's like yeah, come on.
[5:00] Speaker 1: I was like, thank you, Adam bread, I was like lord.
[5:03] Speaker 1: But it reminded me of that where there's certain rules.
[5:05] Speaker 1: I was like, maybe that's just a thing. So one
[5:06] Speaker 1: morning we were walking everybody points, okay, that's where his
[5:09] Speaker 1: office is, this is where catering is.
[5:11] Speaker 2: I'm like okay.
[5:12] Speaker 1: And maybe a few weeks in we were walking past
[5:15] Speaker 1: each other on the side while you were coming and
[5:16] Speaker 1: going to say and I was going to get some coffee,
[5:18] Speaker 1: probably for someone at that point in time, and I
[5:21] Speaker 1: just said, just speak. That's how you were raised. You
[5:25] Speaker 1: don't walk past, and you acknowledge people when you see him.
[5:27] Speaker 1: So I just said good morning, and you spoke back,
[5:29] Speaker 1: and I was.
[5:29] Speaker 2: Like, it was like a movie.
[5:31] Speaker 1: Like if somebody had like a camera, it have been
[5:33] Speaker 1: so funny to see my reaction. Like he spoke back,
[5:35] Speaker 1: and I was like it was complete opposite of what
[5:38] Speaker 1: everybody said.
[5:39] Speaker 3: I know it, And that's why I wanted to, like
[5:41] Speaker 3: in the beginning, that's why I forced people to say
[5:43] Speaker 3: hi now because I walking out, I'm like, hey.
[5:45] Speaker 1: How you doing all right?
[5:47] Speaker 3: Because because I'm like, if somebody's still telling you all that,
[5:49] Speaker 3: that's not so it does not check in. I want
[5:52] Speaker 3: to know how people are doing it. I was I
[5:53] Speaker 3: was stopping the hallway and talk and see, you know,
[5:55] Speaker 3: how's your mom? How things are you.
[5:56] Speaker 2: Will Yeah, complete opposite of what I was told. I
[6:00] Speaker 2: just I love it. It was a complete opposite.
[6:02] Speaker 3: I'm just thinking Capitol Hill to hear ahead, go ahead.
[6:07] Speaker 3: It's not lost on me. Go ahead, go ahead.
[6:10] Speaker 1: And then I worked my way up and a lot
[6:12] Speaker 1: of people are always like, how did you and Tala
[6:14] Speaker 1: become so close? How did you even start working for him?
[6:17] Speaker 1: How that even happened? And do you remember when we
[6:19] Speaker 1: were doing Soul Cycle at Greenbrier. Yes, and I came
[6:23] Speaker 1: up to you and said, we need more money for
[6:25] Speaker 1: the costumers.
[6:26] Speaker 2: Yes, And I was so scared because.
[6:28] Speaker 1: We hadn't really it was always just good morning, sir,
[6:31] Speaker 1: keep it moving, and something was like, just hit him
[6:33] Speaker 1: because he has no idea, and you I'm talking about
[6:36] Speaker 1: within hours, accounting was up in that department figuring out
[6:40] Speaker 1: how we can get more money, to get more people,
[6:41] Speaker 1: how to help us because the way we shoot, we
[6:43] Speaker 1: needed that so good, good help.
[6:45] Speaker 2: And you were like literally, you were like, well make
[6:47] Speaker 2: it happen.
[6:49] Speaker 3: Because the thing that people forget I can't see everything,
[6:54] Speaker 3: I can't be everywhere.
[6:55] Speaker 4: So it takes.
[6:56] Speaker 3: Somebody bold enough to say, hey, you working, We're all
[7:00] Speaker 3: working side by side, we're working really really fast. We
[7:02] Speaker 3: need the help, and not everybody would do that, and
[7:05] Speaker 3: there'll be people in departments who are suffering, who are
[7:08] Speaker 3: shorthanded because accounting saying nord, this other person saying no,
[7:11] Speaker 3: nobody's told me.
[7:12] Speaker 4: Yep.
[7:12] Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, so I was.
[7:14] Speaker 4: I was glad you said it.
[7:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, you made me feel very comfortable. I was like okay,
[7:18] Speaker 1: and I don't sometimes like Chris, why you didn't say nothing?
[7:20] Speaker 1: I like, I just sat back. But that was the
[7:23] Speaker 1: thing where I was like, I need to talk to him,
[7:24] Speaker 1: and I was so scared. And that was just another
[7:26] Speaker 1: instance where you literally was like so cool. Like if
[7:29] Speaker 1: people look at you cause you're six six, you're like
[7:31] Speaker 1: this giant is like oh gosh, Like how do I
[7:33] Speaker 1: even approach his men like you approach everybody.
[7:37] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[7:38] Speaker 1: Yeah, but there was just another testament to like how
[7:40] Speaker 1: you just make things happen, and you're like very.
[7:43] Speaker 4: When people make me aware of it. Yeah, this is
[7:45] Speaker 4: really important to me. Working that hard.
[7:46] Speaker 3: That's why so many people love working at the studio
[7:48] Speaker 3: because it's a we move. We do, but we are
[7:52] Speaker 3: still together. I'm right there with them, side by side
[7:56] Speaker 3: in the trenches, so it makes it all just we
[7:59] Speaker 3: see everybody push in the same direction.
[8:00] Speaker 4: Yeah, that's why we've been able to do what we do.
[8:02] Speaker 1: Absolutely, and it starts with you because I remember, even
[8:05] Speaker 1: as a PA, just coming on a set sometimes.
[8:07] Speaker 2: And we're all exhausted.
[8:09] Speaker 1: Everybody's working these hours and you're right there with us
[8:11] Speaker 1: from sun up to sundown, and it's like, this man
[8:13] Speaker 1: ain't got to do this at all. You can literally
[8:16] Speaker 1: be on your island or.
[8:17] Speaker 4: In one of your properties somewhere. Nope, I don't have
[8:21] Speaker 4: to be here.
[8:21] Speaker 2: Literally, But I love it.
[8:23] Speaker 1: It's inspiring though, because it made me go harder, and
[8:25] Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, if I see this man who's
[8:27] Speaker 1: already made it doesn't have to do this worth is hard.
[8:30] Speaker 2: I really gotta go hard. And it just inspired me and.
[8:34] Speaker 4: You did I did.
[8:35] Speaker 3: Started working for me and this crystal running behind me
[8:39] Speaker 3: with my shoes going on, GMA, we'll hear some of
[8:42] Speaker 3: these schedule sees if you we should show them some
[8:45] Speaker 3: of the schedules have to do.
[8:46] Speaker 4: It was.
[8:47] Speaker 3: It was insane when I'm promoting a movie or something
[8:49] Speaker 3: and there you are. We're up up, going to bed
[8:52] Speaker 3: at three, up up at five thirty, getting things ready.
[8:55] Speaker 2: And ye, you got big feet too.
[8:57] Speaker 3: So the shoes was heavy, but you know that they
[9:00] Speaker 3: The thing about it, though, that really moved me is
[9:03] Speaker 3: just how much you honored the job and what you
[9:06] Speaker 3: were supposed to do. That to me spoke volumes because
[9:09] Speaker 3: anybody who comes in and just you know that their
[9:12] Speaker 3: passion is what they're doing. I didn't even know you
[9:15] Speaker 3: had another dream.
[9:16] Speaker 2: No, you didn't.
[9:17] Speaker 4: I had no idea. You had no dream. Tell them
[9:19] Speaker 4: about the audition.
[9:21] Speaker 1: I had auditioned for a role on If Loving You
[9:24] Speaker 1: Is Wrong, and then also for Erica on Have and
[9:27] Speaker 1: Have nots.
[9:27] Speaker 2: Actually it was Darcy on If Loving You Is Wrong?
[9:30] Speaker 1: And Erica who played she was one of the young
[9:34] Speaker 1: ladies on Having Have nots.
[9:36] Speaker 2: Auditioned for those didn't get any of them.
[9:39] Speaker 3: You are working with me every day holding my clothes,
[9:42] Speaker 3: went through the proper channels to audition and didn't get
[9:46] Speaker 3: the role.
[9:47] Speaker 1: And when you asked me to stoll you because that
[9:48] Speaker 1: was when I was just like working in costumes, Tyler.
[9:50] Speaker 2: I would literally we would be Ingerenbriar.
[9:53] Speaker 1: My agent would send me an audition. I would run
[9:55] Speaker 1: upstairs find something in the back back. Remember we used
[9:58] Speaker 1: to had that big.
[9:59] Speaker 2: Warehouse behind the costume department. Upstairs.
[10:02] Speaker 1: I would find something that fit that character, change into it,
[10:04] Speaker 1: run downstairs, tape it running, get lunch, run upstairs, change back,
[10:08] Speaker 1: go back to work. Literally try like grinding, trying to
[10:11] Speaker 1: figure it out, even auditioning for stuff for you. And
[10:14] Speaker 1: once you asked me to be your stylist, I was
[10:17] Speaker 1: like this, man, don't think I can act.
[10:20] Speaker 4: And I had no idea.
[10:21] Speaker 1: You had had no idea, not out there was wasting
[10:24] Speaker 1: a way of saying, you can't do this.
[10:26] Speaker 2: But I got something.
[10:26] Speaker 4: Come ho, my shoes, let me sell you the world.
[10:30] Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, But I didn't. I had no
[10:34] Speaker 3: idea because nobody ever told me. And I don't know
[10:37] Speaker 3: why nobody told me that you are auditioning. That's crazy
[10:41] Speaker 3: until sisters, when you again, because just to speak to
[10:44] Speaker 3: anybody watching about having the boldness to speak up, like
[10:48] Speaker 3: the boldness that cause started us talking with you saying
[10:51] Speaker 3: we needed help, The boldness of you actually getting the
[10:54] Speaker 3: role of a team that started with you saying I
[10:57] Speaker 3: really would like to try to do this.
[10:59] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[10:59] Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, okay, first time I'm heared it, and
[11:02] Speaker 3: I'm thinking, and I remember.
[11:04] Speaker 4: What I told you.
[11:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I'm not gonna give you anything, it's gonna
[11:07] Speaker 1: be small and what you do with it is yep.
[11:10] Speaker 4: If I give to you, better kill it.
[11:11] Speaker 2: You better kill it. And I was like, I will
[11:13] Speaker 2: not let you down.
[11:14] Speaker 3: And the first day I remember you shooting in a
[11:17] Speaker 3: blue dress on sisters, and I remember.
[11:19] Speaker 4: All of it was it blue and black.
[11:21] Speaker 3: But all I remember is all of the crew coming
[11:25] Speaker 3: just to support you.
[11:26] Speaker 2: Yes, it was so beautiful.
[11:28] Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's that tells the world the kind of
[11:30] Speaker 3: person you are. There all your think, think how many
[11:32] Speaker 3: your damn co workers gonna go to support you or something.
[11:34] Speaker 4: All your co workers came down and when you finished
[11:36] Speaker 4: that scene, they were all.
[11:37] Speaker 2: Applauded, yelling, we all jumped on. It was I haven't
[11:40] Speaker 2: actually had footage that still on my phone.
[11:41] Speaker 4: Oh you should put that in there.
[11:42] Speaker 2: YEA, ready, Chrystal.
[11:45] Speaker 1: This is my costume designer who wants to be an
[11:48] Speaker 1: actress and she just got cast it for her first
[11:51] Speaker 1: row at Tyler Perry Studios.
[11:54] Speaker 3: With dreams Come true and actions arms you like to
[12:03] Speaker 3: see you.
[12:04] Speaker 5: You said to run the things, all right, But what's
[12:31] Speaker 5: beautiful about it is I sat in the corner going
[12:34] Speaker 5: hm hm, oh no, no, no, that's something else.
[12:38] Speaker 3: That's not just talent. That's not just acting, that's not
[12:41] Speaker 3: that's something else. That's something that is anointed, that is special,
[12:44] Speaker 3: that has called for that particular purpose. And I'm always
[12:48] Speaker 3: looking for that. So when I saw it, I was like, Okay,
[12:51] Speaker 3: I see same way with Cassie in the van.
[12:53] Speaker 4: We're on tour and.
[12:55] Speaker 3: I'm into Medea Castill maybe go on stage And uh,
[12:59] Speaker 3: I looked at at them sitting over the corner, I said,
[13:02] Speaker 3: do sitcom with you too. Wow, we're gonna do House
[13:05] Speaker 3: of Pain. I gotta go hell her walk. Yeah, and
[13:08] Speaker 3: uh we did House of Pain.
[13:09] Speaker 1: All these years later, it's still going. Yeah, Oh my
[13:13] Speaker 1: show does that.
[13:14] Speaker 3: I totally one hundred percent believe it will. And whatever
[13:18] Speaker 3: it is, if it doesn't, you're gonna be in abundance.
[13:21] Speaker 4: Won't he do it?
[13:23] Speaker 2: He will?
[13:25] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[13:26] Speaker 2: I love that.
[13:26] Speaker 1: And even when I called you that day I had,
[13:29] Speaker 1: I was still styling you to ask you about just
[13:32] Speaker 1: to let you know this is what I wanted to do,
[13:34] Speaker 1: just to speak to who you are as a friend.
[13:36] Speaker 1: You were backstage getting ready to go on to do
[13:39] Speaker 1: your farewell tour.
[13:40] Speaker 2: I thought you had the day off.
[13:40] Speaker 1: Because it was so many days that the calendar was
[13:43] Speaker 1: really small, so I was like, okay, he off today.
[13:45] Speaker 2: So I called you thinking you were off, and you weren't.
[13:47] Speaker 2: You literally answered the phone and I.
[13:49] Speaker 1: Was like, hey, what are you doing And you're like,
[13:50] Speaker 1: I'll just sitting backstage waiting to go. And I was like, oh, well,
[13:52] Speaker 1: I'll call you back, and you're like, no, what's up.
[13:55] Speaker 1: And I was like to like, you don't know this,
[13:57] Speaker 1: but I'm reading the scripts and it's literally the stories
[14:00] Speaker 1: are just jumping.
[14:01] Speaker 2: Off the pages.
[14:02] Speaker 1: And I was like, I really want to give this
[14:03] Speaker 1: a shot, and you were like, I love this idea.
[14:05] Speaker 2: Let me call you back.
[14:08] Speaker 4: Exactly because I got to walk on stage. Yeah, but
[14:11] Speaker 4: the fact.
[14:11] Speaker 1: That you took the call, you know, I'm saying that
[14:14] Speaker 1: that's just type of friend you are because some people
[14:16] Speaker 1: like I called them back, you know, but as busy
[14:18] Speaker 1: as you are, as busy as you are even when
[14:20] Speaker 1: you're working.
[14:20] Speaker 2: You still make time for your people.
[14:22] Speaker 1: Of course, I just want people to know that that's
[14:23] Speaker 1: who you are, okay, because that's like a lot of
[14:26] Speaker 1: people think that you just as even they don't know
[14:28] Speaker 1: you on a personal level, they just see this huge,
[14:30] Speaker 1: giant man who just does so many great things and
[14:33] Speaker 1: it's so talented. But like on a real personal note,
[14:36] Speaker 1: you are really that you're available to your people and
[14:39] Speaker 1: I love you for that.
[14:40] Speaker 4: I appreciate it. I love you too, Chris. Thank you.
[14:43] Speaker 3: People guess because people always look at where you are.
[14:45] Speaker 3: They look at the top, they're like, oh wow, look
[14:46] Speaker 3: up there and look up there. They don't look at
[14:48] Speaker 3: all the steps that to get there. How the bottom.
[14:52] Speaker 3: All they say is wow, you're all the way up there.
[14:54] Speaker 3: No look at all of that. That's the journey.
[14:55] Speaker 2: It is a journey. Yeah, yeah, wow.
[14:59] Speaker 1: Was there anytime in your life like as you continue
[15:03] Speaker 1: to climb that you're like whoa, Like I know even
[15:07] Speaker 1: where you are now a billionaire like established, new studio
[15:10] Speaker 1: still expanding.
[15:11] Speaker 2: Have you have the biggest studio right now?
[15:14] Speaker 1: Bigger than I feel like it's in the United States
[15:16] Speaker 1: period you have yours?
[15:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, mass Yeah. So is there any time as.
[15:21] Speaker 4: You're maybe pine may bigger go aheadp you?
[15:24] Speaker 1: Is is there any time where you hit moments where
[15:27] Speaker 1: you're like ooh, like God cannot go higher because you
[15:30] Speaker 1: have a book hire as waiting.
[15:31] Speaker 2: But do you ever even doubt yourself?
[15:33] Speaker 3: Like no, at fifty three, I've had enough experiences to
[15:38] Speaker 3: know that that I have to surrender. When I did
[15:45] Speaker 3: my uh, when I bought my first studio, I thought, okay,
[15:50] Speaker 3: this is it. It's great. I'm not building a studio.
[15:52] Speaker 3: I got it's paid for it.
[15:54] Speaker 4: You know.
[15:55] Speaker 3: Outgrew it. Yeah, next studio, same thing. Yep, I outgrew
[16:00] Speaker 3: it in no time. A greenbrier. I thought it would
[16:03] Speaker 3: be there forever. Outgrew that thing. We were on top
[16:05] Speaker 3: of each other in that building. But but what I
[16:07] Speaker 3: learned is that every time I was supposed to move
[16:10] Speaker 3: to the next level, and I didn't because I was comfortable,
[16:13] Speaker 3: because I didn't want to pay more. I didn't want
[16:16] Speaker 3: to grow. I thought I was where I wanted to be.
[16:18] Speaker 3: Everything in my life got uncomfortable until I moved. So
[16:23] Speaker 3: I completely all right over.
[16:25] Speaker 2: There, everybody all right?
[16:27] Speaker 3: So I completely I completely learned the hard way. Like
[16:34] Speaker 3: just case some point Crock Street Market right now, which
[16:37] Speaker 3: was my first big, bigger studio on Crock Street. I was,
[16:42] Speaker 3: I was hired. I had hired these bootleg carpenters to
[16:46] Speaker 3: come in and fix it up and all this other stuff,
[16:48] Speaker 3: and I was, I was, I'm like, good, I got
[16:51] Speaker 3: this building, I paid for it. This is where I'm
[16:54] Speaker 3: make my studio. That thing wasn't even as big as
[16:56] Speaker 3: the stage one is, right, right. So so I'm there
[17:00] Speaker 3: trying to force it and ended up on the news
[17:03] Speaker 3: Monica Kaufman or Richard Belcher talking.
[17:06] Speaker 4: About telling through news.
[17:07] Speaker 3: Tyler Perry's building a whole studio with our permits, I'll
[17:12] Speaker 3: tell you.
[17:12] Speaker 2: So.
[17:12] Speaker 3: I was just like, I was so devastated because I'd
[17:14] Speaker 3: hired this guy to do job then, but the message
[17:17] Speaker 3: came to me very clear, You're too big to do
[17:19] Speaker 3: it wrong.
[17:19] Speaker 4: Oh too big to do it wrong.
[17:21] Speaker 2: You gotta do it right, got to do it right.
[17:23] Speaker 3: I was still still pushing for trying to make it work.
[17:28] Speaker 3: The neighbors started complaining every we didn't have enough parket.
[17:30] Speaker 3: It was only parking for maybe eighty cars. And I
[17:33] Speaker 3: was mad and I didn't want to go. And so
[17:35] Speaker 3: when my Lloyd called me and told me about Greenbride,
[17:37] Speaker 3: went over there, and you know, I was like, I
[17:40] Speaker 3: don't want to be over here, and went laid down,
[17:43] Speaker 3: couldn't sleep. Went over there late at night and I
[17:45] Speaker 3: was praying about it. Looking and I looked closely at
[17:48] Speaker 3: the gates and there was because it's all padded, locked
[17:51] Speaker 3: and chained up, and the gates had Bible scriptures on it,
[17:53] Speaker 3: and the song's notinety one. My favorite scripture was on
[17:55] Speaker 3: the gate. I was like, okay, God, I get it.
[17:59] Speaker 3: So I aught it. Thought I would not grow it,
[18:01] Speaker 3: but I did. But but right after that, out growing it,
[18:06] Speaker 3: here comes this offer for Fort McPherson. You know I
[18:10] Speaker 3: told I called the mayor and said I'm leaving. I'm
[18:12] Speaker 3: going to move to Douglasville. He said, no, no, no, I
[18:14] Speaker 3: want you to come see Fort McPherson. When I walked
[18:17] Speaker 3: into Fort McPherson, the first thing I thought was, oh,
[18:21] Speaker 3: I'm supposed to do this.
[18:22] Speaker 2: Wow.
[18:23] Speaker 4: It wasn't.
[18:23] Speaker 3: It wasn't where I had been before with the thought
[18:26] Speaker 3: of oh gosh, let me just get paid for this is.
[18:29] Speaker 3: I had to learn to be open to where I
[18:32] Speaker 3: was going and build for where I was going, rather
[18:35] Speaker 3: than living and being closed and staying where I was
[18:38] Speaker 3: right so understanding that through some hard trials, I learned
[18:44] Speaker 3: to just surrender when it shows up.
[18:45] Speaker 1: Wow, I want to touch on something that you've helped
[18:48] Speaker 1: me in my personal life when it comes to going higher.
[18:53] Speaker 4: When we've been told about me.
[18:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, because we talked about that relationship, yes.
[19:02] Speaker 2: But it was in my living.
[19:05] Speaker 1: It was we were shooting I want to say, Medea,
[19:09] Speaker 1: maybe Halloween, the second one, one of the movies, and
[19:12] Speaker 1: that's when I was still styling you. We're in the
[19:13] Speaker 1: bathroom changing media's wardrobe.
[19:16] Speaker 2: And you were like, where are you living?
[19:18] Speaker 1: And I said, oh, I'm rint in a townhouse and
[19:21] Speaker 1: you're like okay, You're like you are own it and.
[19:23] Speaker 2: I said no, and he goes, you need to go
[19:25] Speaker 2: buy a house and I.
[19:26] Speaker 1: Was like, well, sir, the way we work, I was like,
[19:28] Speaker 1: we work and then we save our money to live.
[19:30] Speaker 2: When we're not working. It's hard to save when.
[19:32] Speaker 1: You're just like living, you know what I'm saying, basically
[19:35] Speaker 1: living paycheck to paycheck.
[19:36] Speaker 2: And you were like, okay, well how much is the house?
[19:40] Speaker 1: And I was like, well, the ones i'm looking at
[19:42] Speaker 1: like we'd be like two fifty three hundred thousand, and
[19:44] Speaker 1: you're like, well, how about the dawn payment. I was
[19:47] Speaker 1: like like, if you put ten percent down, you may
[19:49] Speaker 1: do like fifteen thousands between twenty and fifteen thousand, and
[19:52] Speaker 1: you're like, okay, the way you're waiting on, I.
[19:55] Speaker 2: Said, well, you like, go get your house.
[19:58] Speaker 1: And it was in that moment, I was like, good Lord,
[20:01] Speaker 1: what about go get your house. So I got that
[20:04] Speaker 1: house and I came back to it set of by
[20:06] Speaker 1: then we were shooting having having eights because we moved
[20:08] Speaker 1: on to the next project. You're like, christ got she
[20:11] Speaker 1: got her house. He was like, I give you four years.
[20:13] Speaker 1: You'll be in a mansion within four years. I don't
[20:17] Speaker 1: know if you remember saying that we were on set.
[20:19] Speaker 1: You called me and you like, it's time to get
[20:21] Speaker 1: out of that little apartment.
[20:22] Speaker 2: He called house an apartment, Yeah, a four bedroom did and.
[20:26] Speaker 4: Half that it's beautiful. It was beautiful.
[20:28] Speaker 3: But I knew again in my life what I learned
[20:31] Speaker 3: and what I understood was be open when it shows up.
[20:35] Speaker 3: That's not arrogance, that's not anything. There's so many people
[20:39] Speaker 3: who I know I've met in this lifetime being having
[20:42] Speaker 3: been very poor and now doing very well, who on
[20:45] Speaker 3: that side of it they never apologized for We as
[20:48] Speaker 3: black people, constantly apologize when we have something good. Like
[20:51] Speaker 3: you talked about that lady who talking about stop showing off,
[20:53] Speaker 3: you should be you should be. See that's somebody who
[20:55] Speaker 3: don't even understand that it's based on the experiences of
[21:02] Speaker 3: what we have done as black people in this country,
[21:05] Speaker 3: the things our ancestors did, our success has already been
[21:11] Speaker 3: bought and paid for. If we could get our mentality
[21:14] Speaker 3: around what that means. Yes, you wouldn't walk around apologizing.
[21:18] Speaker 2: For I know that's right. And you taught me to
[21:21] Speaker 2: live unapologetically.
[21:22] Speaker 4: Yes, it's okay, yep.
[21:24] Speaker 1: And even when I was living in a scarcity mindset,
[21:27] Speaker 1: you like, Chris, I know, you feel like you just
[21:28] Speaker 1: got through the door or just one foot. You're like,
[21:30] Speaker 1: you're in the door, You're right, You're all right, go
[21:32] Speaker 1: get what you want. I was like, well, I don't
[21:34] Speaker 1: know if I can like stop living like that, because
[21:36] Speaker 1: you said that you would go buy what you could afford,
[21:39] Speaker 1: like I know, I can handle this. And then you're
[21:41] Speaker 1: in there for two years and you're like, I should
[21:43] Speaker 1: have just got what I wanted because God continued to
[21:45] Speaker 1: multiply and multiply, and like I could have just got
[21:47] Speaker 1: what I want?
[21:48] Speaker 4: I want.
[21:48] Speaker 3: Yes, And many times in my life I've been in
[21:50] Speaker 3: a situation, why did I buy this?
[21:52] Speaker 4: Why am I why about this? I didn't when that's
[21:55] Speaker 4: right there?
[21:56] Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, yeah, So you you helped me to one
[22:00] Speaker 1: bigger to open my lens and be like, Okay, I
[22:02] Speaker 1: can do this, and every time I go higher, my wife.
[22:06] Speaker 2: Just makes room. It makes room.
[22:08] Speaker 1: My ideas get bigger the money it comes, and it's
[22:11] Speaker 1: never like a oh God, how about.
[22:13] Speaker 2: To take care of it?
[22:13] Speaker 3: There you go, and then you realize after four years ago, man,
[22:18] Speaker 3: I just breezed through that.
[22:19] Speaker 4: I wasn't even that wasn't even a stretch.
[22:22] Speaker 3: Because your mind became open to the possibility of what
[22:26] Speaker 3: it could be.
[22:27] Speaker 2: Yes, yeah it is, but that also comes with exposure.
[22:30] Speaker 1: I'm a young girl from Martin, Tennessee, population ten thousand,
[22:34] Speaker 1: people like super small, and you have one. I remember
[22:38] Speaker 1: the first time you invite me to the island and
[22:41] Speaker 1: I was sitting at the table with everybody, and I
[22:43] Speaker 1: don't know if you can feel the timidness, and you
[22:46] Speaker 1: were like, if.
[22:46] Speaker 2: You're at this table, it's because you belong.
[22:49] Speaker 1: And I remember one morning just walking around, just touching
[22:51] Speaker 1: the leaves. I'd never seen an island, a private island,
[22:54] Speaker 1: a private island. I've been on an island and not
[22:56] Speaker 1: an island like that, and I was like, this man,
[22:58] Speaker 1: this is his own island, Like I don't even need
[23:01] Speaker 1: all this, Like this is possible. Yeah, then that's exposure.
[23:04] Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
[23:05] Speaker 1: Just knowing that I know somebody who has done it,
[23:07] Speaker 1: this is something I can do as well. And the
[23:09] Speaker 1: places you've taken me we traveled the world together, has
[23:12] Speaker 1: opened my eyes to so much where a lot of
[23:15] Speaker 1: people aren't privy to sing.
[23:18] Speaker 3: Thinking about a couple of things traveling in the world.
[23:20] Speaker 3: But let me just say this and then I'll go
[23:22] Speaker 3: to the traveling world Oprah. Oprah did that for me
[23:25] Speaker 3: when I first went to her house, she did that
[23:27] Speaker 3: for me. I was like, Oh, this is possible. You
[23:30] Speaker 3: can actually dream and be and I'll never forget. I'm
[23:33] Speaker 3: on video saying this. I'm probably thirty five. At the
[23:36] Speaker 3: thirty six, My first movie had just come out, and
[23:38] Speaker 3: I was just like, oh, I could have this. It
[23:41] Speaker 3: took all of the reins and blinders off and I
[23:44] Speaker 3: was just like, Okay, God, what you got. Yeah, Well,
[23:47] Speaker 3: I'm going to do the best I can to honor it.
[23:49] Speaker 3: I'm gonna be good to people. I'm gonna everybody comes
[23:52] Speaker 3: in my life. I'm gonna make sure that they are
[23:55] Speaker 3: touched and affected in a beautiful way, that their lives
[23:57] Speaker 3: are changed, that they're really see and dream everything you
[24:01] Speaker 3: show me got I'm gonna try to pass it on
[24:02] Speaker 3: to somebody else, and everybody who can get it, I'll
[24:04] Speaker 3: take it right. So that's the feeling I want the
[24:08] Speaker 3: people around me to have. That's the feeling I want
[24:11] Speaker 3: the people at the studio to have, because at this
[24:13] Speaker 3: point was what else is? What else is there to do?
[24:17] Speaker 2: Exactly exactly? That's so good.
[24:19] Speaker 3: Yeah, they're traveling the world, just like she don't like roaches.
[24:24] Speaker 3: So so we we were in.
[24:30] Speaker 4: Really nice So do y'all know them? Beautiful places over
[24:32] Speaker 4: the water a little buo.
[24:34] Speaker 2: It was nice.
[24:36] Speaker 3: If you walk in the hotel that's very expensive and
[24:38] Speaker 3: there's roach spray in the closet, something something up.
[24:42] Speaker 2: So I didn't read.
[24:44] Speaker 3: I didn't read that road spray because the place is beautiful,
[24:47] Speaker 3: the glass bottom.
[24:48] Speaker 4: Of the gun.
[24:48] Speaker 3: I was like, okay, I'm about Crystal doing in her
[24:51] Speaker 3: room screams.
[24:57] Speaker 2: Do not roaches.
[24:58] Speaker 1: I was like, they're like the people came in the
[25:00] Speaker 1: room that manager and he was.
[25:01] Speaker 2: Like, oh, I'm talking about y'all. It was a big roach.
[25:04] Speaker 2: He was like, oh, this is a water bug.
[25:06] Speaker 3: I said, that's cockro we from the South, and we
[25:11] Speaker 3: get on his head.
[25:12] Speaker 4: That's a cock throat. Y'all got to get that thing.
[25:15] Speaker 2: Y'all came in there moving furniture for me. Y'all here,
[25:19] Speaker 2: turn the arrow, turn.
[25:20] Speaker 4: The arrow, yeah, yep. Or the time I said beyond,
[25:24] Speaker 4: she was ready to go.
[25:25] Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
[25:26] Speaker 1: The first time you took me. I was in Miami, guys,
[25:29] Speaker 1: I'm on a vacation. I always I like to travel
[25:31] Speaker 1: by myself sometimes and then my girls to come meet
[25:34] Speaker 1: me after I've had my me time. And so it
[25:36] Speaker 1: was before my girls landed and I had unpacked.
[25:40] Speaker 2: I was staying in Miami for a while.
[25:41] Speaker 1: I had unpacked my clothes and I never do that.
[25:43] Speaker 1: I never unpack and hang things up. I just live
[25:45] Speaker 1: out the suitcase. This particular trip, I had unpacked. I
[25:49] Speaker 1: get a call and he's like, hey, I need you
[25:51] Speaker 1: to pack some things for me.
[25:53] Speaker 2: I've got to go to Copenhagen.
[25:54] Speaker 1: And I was like okay, and he was I said, okay,
[25:57] Speaker 1: I'll get some things done. So I had caught our money.
[25:59] Speaker 1: I was like, hair money, can you face on me?
[26:00] Speaker 1: So I can you can help with this? Come out
[26:02] Speaker 1: in town. And then I get another call and you
[26:04] Speaker 1: were like, well, I need you to pack your things too,
[26:06] Speaker 1: because we're going to see Beyonce.
[26:09] Speaker 2: Y'all. I ain't never packed. I ain't never got to
[26:12] Speaker 2: the airport that fast.
[26:14] Speaker 3: I called you, caught you back. I called you back
[26:19] Speaker 3: because I knew you had friends. I knew you had packed.
[26:21] Speaker 3: I called you back. I say, so you think you're
[26:23] Speaker 3: gonna you're going I'm at the airport, I'm going through,
[26:27] Speaker 3: backing me away.
[26:31] Speaker 1: And that was the most amazing experience. We flew on
[26:34] Speaker 1: your jet to Copenhagen. I got to meet Beyonce for
[26:37] Speaker 1: the first time, y'all, Like, do we need a land
[26:39] Speaker 1: the pass? She's gonna faint, what's gonna happen? Oh my goodness?
[26:43] Speaker 1: And that was just that was crazy. Thank you for
[26:47] Speaker 1: the many experiences, but that was that when it started.
[26:49] Speaker 4: Exposure.
[26:50] Speaker 3: Exposure, that's what That's what I completely love and hope
[26:55] Speaker 3: that more of us have, you know, and it doesn't
[26:57] Speaker 3: take you don't have to travel the world to to
[26:59] Speaker 3: You could just get out of your neighborhood, go to
[27:01] Speaker 3: other neighborhoods see other things. Like when I was struggling
[27:05] Speaker 3: and broken in my twenties, I barely had nickel or
[27:10] Speaker 3: anything to eat, but I would go to an open
[27:12] Speaker 3: house and in the nicest neighborhoods, and I would drive
[27:17] Speaker 3: test drive cars, just not for the materialness of it,
[27:21] Speaker 3: but just to know it's possible. Yes, right, And because
[27:24] Speaker 3: in my neighborhood there was there was the drug boys
[27:27] Speaker 3: or the preachers that were the only ones doing well.
[27:29] Speaker 2: Wow.
[27:30] Speaker 4: So I didn't see anybody else.
[27:32] Speaker 3: That you know, was in the movie business or anything.
[27:36] Speaker 3: I didn't see any of that. So coming to Atlanta
[27:39] Speaker 3: really opened my mind up to the possibility of there
[27:41] Speaker 3: are other things you can be other than those two.
[27:43] Speaker 1: Absolutely, Wow, that's good. Something else that I have learned
[27:47] Speaker 1: from you is generosity. I've always just naturally just been
[27:52] Speaker 1: a nice person, speak to everybody. But it was first
[27:56] Speaker 1: it was Andy Norman, who we love works.
[27:58] Speaker 2: All right hand over there. Oh my goodness, love him.
[28:02] Speaker 1: And he called me one day he always goes to
[28:04] Speaker 1: church on Wednesdays, and he said, I don't know why
[28:07] Speaker 1: God put you on my spirit, but he told me
[28:09] Speaker 1: to tell you your living is in your giving. He said,
[28:12] Speaker 1: I don't know what this why what it was. And
[28:15] Speaker 1: at this time I was I wasn't even costume designing.
[28:19] Speaker 1: I was just a costumer. So that you know, that's
[28:22] Speaker 1: just like okay, what does that mean?
[28:23] Speaker 2: You know? He's like, your living is in your giving.
[28:26] Speaker 2: So we take a break.
[28:28] Speaker 1: I get a call from Ozzie, who was the president
[28:30] Speaker 1: at the time, and he goes, hey, t I want
[28:32] Speaker 1: me to call you to see if you be interested
[28:34] Speaker 1: in costume designing the next season of shows.
[28:37] Speaker 2: And I was like, Oh, that's that's a.
[28:39] Speaker 1: Big in a big job, Like I don't know if
[28:41] Speaker 1: I'm ready for this, if I'm prepared, And I ended
[28:46] Speaker 1: up praying about it and I ended up taking the job.
[28:49] Speaker 2: And when I walked in for my first.
[28:50] Speaker 1: Day and he was like, I didn't know where you
[28:53] Speaker 1: were going or what was about. He said, but you're
[28:55] Speaker 1: you're going like, babe, you're going higher. And I was like,
[28:57] Speaker 1: and this is crazy, and he's like, don't forget what
[28:59] Speaker 1: I said. And he always reminded me and I never
[29:01] Speaker 1: forget that. But just being around you and styling you
[29:06] Speaker 1: for the years I styled you, and actually getting a
[29:08] Speaker 1: close up look at how you run things, the way
[29:12] Speaker 1: you give silently. People don't even know the half of
[29:16] Speaker 1: the things you do, because you can be sitting in
[29:17] Speaker 1: your living room watch a TV like I want to
[29:20] Speaker 1: health itly and figure I find her.
[29:22] Speaker 4: I need.
[29:23] Speaker 1: I want to help her rebuild whatever, you know, saying
[29:25] Speaker 1: you always bless people. And I remember it was during
[29:29] Speaker 1: COVID and you called me and you said, hey, I just.
[29:31] Speaker 2: Want to shake on you. Are you good? Because we
[29:33] Speaker 2: weren't working. You wanted to make sure I was. I
[29:35] Speaker 2: was okay. I said, no, tell you taking good care
[29:37] Speaker 2: of me. I'm good.
[29:39] Speaker 1: And in turn I turned around and called herman remember
[29:43] Speaker 1: what he had told us the sorrel And it just
[29:46] Speaker 1: that's I feel like when you're around somebody you're a caliber.
[29:49] Speaker 1: Those are the things you need to take from them,
[29:51] Speaker 1: you know, like learning how to like that was a
[29:53] Speaker 1: valuable thing for me.
[29:54] Speaker 2: Like this man will he just gives freely and with
[29:57] Speaker 2: a cheerful heart.
[29:58] Speaker 1: And that was one of the things I was like
[29:59] Speaker 1: when I'm this position, like because I would already already
[30:02] Speaker 1: do it. Like when we come back to work, I
[30:04] Speaker 1: buy people lunch because I knew they weren't had been
[30:06] Speaker 1: working for a while, so I would do what I
[30:07] Speaker 1: could do.
[30:08] Speaker 2: I couldn't buy a car.
[30:10] Speaker 4: That's the same. That's the same thing.
[30:11] Speaker 3: Though giving doesn't have a value when it comes from
[30:14] Speaker 3: a pure place, it could be ten billion dollars. It
[30:17] Speaker 3: could be two pennies. It doesn't have a value when
[30:19] Speaker 3: it comes from purity. Giving is about what it does
[30:23] Speaker 3: for the other person exactly.
[30:24] Speaker 2: And I learned that from you.
[30:25] Speaker 1: So I just that's another thing, like being around you.
[30:28] Speaker 1: I've learned so many things, just even how to carry
[30:30] Speaker 1: myself because a lot of times you don't know why
[30:32] Speaker 1: guy's putting you around someone I had no idea why
[30:35] Speaker 1: you chose me.
[30:36] Speaker 2: And why guy put it on your heart to be
[30:37] Speaker 2: like her. I want her to come and help me
[30:40] Speaker 2: with this.
[30:41] Speaker 1: But in that it was literally molding me to be
[30:44] Speaker 1: able to sit in the space I'm in now and
[30:46] Speaker 1: to be able to carry it.
[30:47] Speaker 2: And you know what I'm saying, That's.
[30:49] Speaker 3: Why I tell everyone who is around somebody who they
[30:53] Speaker 3: are wondering. Like I was around people like Oprah and
[30:56] Speaker 3: you know, TD Jake's and things.
[30:58] Speaker 4: I was like, why these people are so amazing?
[31:01] Speaker 3: How am I? What am I? What is this about?
[31:03] Speaker 3: But they were there to teach me something. And I
[31:06] Speaker 3: watched the grace of how they carried themselves. I watched
[31:09] Speaker 3: the compassion and I watch how they treated everybody around them.
[31:13] Speaker 3: You know, all people want to do is be seen
[31:15] Speaker 3: and heard, right, So if you Sometimes that's all they need.
[31:20] Speaker 3: And so when I'm helping someone, and as you said,
[31:24] Speaker 3: most of it's private because the world don't need to
[31:27] Speaker 3: know it, but there are moments where people want to
[31:31] Speaker 3: know it. And then there are moments where I say, Okay,
[31:34] Speaker 3: people should know this because there's so much hell in
[31:35] Speaker 3: the world right now, so let's see see what how
[31:38] Speaker 3: much good this can be. Yes, but it's really really
[31:41] Speaker 3: important to be able to have what you have and
[31:47] Speaker 3: have an open hand and heart to help other people. Yes,
[31:49] Speaker 3: I get that from my mother. I mean I would
[31:50] Speaker 3: wake up when I was a kid and step out
[31:52] Speaker 3: of the bed. I would step on somebody on the floor,
[31:55] Speaker 3: like who these people's like they needed a place to stay, right,
[31:57] Speaker 3: So she would wouldn't gve no money, but she would
[32:01] Speaker 3: she wouldn't you know, you couldn't get twenty dollars out
[32:03] Speaker 3: of my mother, but she would feed them, she would
[32:05] Speaker 3: clothe them. Shit, she's just she was just amazing.
[32:08] Speaker 2: I love it. I love it. You talk about your mother.
[32:10] Speaker 2: I know this.
[32:11] Speaker 1: She's someone who was a dear, dear place in your heart.
[32:15] Speaker 1: And you talked about the dysfunctioning of your home growing up.
[32:19] Speaker 2: What was it with that.
[32:20] Speaker 1: Little boy, because you say in your book Hires Waiting,
[32:23] Speaker 1: you say that ever since I was a little boy,
[32:25] Speaker 1: I've known there was something greater than myself, something bigger,
[32:28] Speaker 1: something stronger, something higher. I know, for me as a
[32:32] Speaker 1: kid living in Martin, Tennessee, I didn't see anything that
[32:35] Speaker 1: God had put in my mind. I didn't see anything
[32:37] Speaker 1: that even reflected that. I'm like, so, why do I
[32:39] Speaker 1: feel like I can only saw it on TV? What
[32:42] Speaker 1: was it with that little boy living in New Orleans?
[32:44] Speaker 1: It was like, it's something bigger for me than this.
[32:47] Speaker 3: That was That was the most frustrating part of my
[32:49] Speaker 3: life and career is having all of that vision inside
[32:52] Speaker 3: of me and did not sing a path, not seeing
[32:55] Speaker 3: anybody else who had done it, not seen anybody around.
[32:57] Speaker 3: I was just like, how is this even possible for
[33:01] Speaker 3: me to obtain this? But for me, my mother took
[33:04] Speaker 3: me to church all the time, so I just would
[33:09] Speaker 3: hear my uncle preaching about you know, if you pray,
[33:11] Speaker 3: God will answer your prayers. And I just believed from
[33:15] Speaker 3: a little boy that God was answering my prayers. Especially
[33:17] Speaker 3: when I got these I thought that the television Flora
[33:21] Speaker 3: Mode television, y'all y'all don't know what that flora on television.
[33:25] Speaker 3: I thought that the people inside on Gilligan's Island, the
[33:28] Speaker 3: TV show, were inside the TV and I wanted to
[33:30] Speaker 3: go behind it and open it up and find them.
[33:33] Speaker 3: And my father would have killed me though, So I prayed.
[33:36] Speaker 3: I said, God, send me some little people to take
[33:38] Speaker 3: care of. And I'm leaving school. I come home and
[33:42] Speaker 3: there's a house, a bamboo house on sitting on the porch.
[33:45] Speaker 3: Lady across the street had left, had moved away, and
[33:48] Speaker 3: she asked my mother if I could have her parakeets,
[33:50] Speaker 3: TV and Pierre and they spoke. So as a little boy,
[33:55] Speaker 3: I'm like, God heard my prayer.
[33:56] Speaker 2: I heard it.
[33:57] Speaker 3: Yeah, So from then on, from then on, it's like, okay,
[34:01] Speaker 3: this prayer thing works.
[34:02] Speaker 2: It works.
[34:03] Speaker 4: Prayer ye.
[34:08] Speaker 3: Got to get my call for to get up there
[34:13] Speaker 3: exactly right right right right right right right right.
[34:16] Speaker 4: Downs nice gowns something. Yeah.
[34:23] Speaker 1: I'd like to ask that question because a lot of
[34:25] Speaker 1: times when people see us where we are now, it's
[34:28] Speaker 1: like where did that start?
[34:29] Speaker 2: So I definitely wanted to touch on that.
[34:32] Speaker 4: You can't just say this about God.
[34:33] Speaker 3: In fact, I know the world is changing and people
[34:35] Speaker 3: are getting away from so many things. And it makes
[34:38] Speaker 3: sense because because of what church has become. But my
[34:42] Speaker 3: whole hope is that if people have a relationship with
[34:45] Speaker 3: God and believing that, they never ever equate that to
[34:49] Speaker 3: something that man is, because they will always let you down. Preacher, pastor,
[34:54] Speaker 3: priests will always let you down.
[34:56] Speaker 4: They are not God. They're human.
[34:58] Speaker 3: They're allowed to be flawed, they're alive to make mistakes business.
[35:01] Speaker 3: So so I give them the grace of being human. Yes,
[35:06] Speaker 3: but when I need grace, I go to God, not
[35:08] Speaker 3: for them.
[35:09] Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely.
[35:10] Speaker 1: I just literally just yesterday, had this conversation with my
[35:14] Speaker 1: brother Marquis, and he was like, you know, I just
[35:16] Speaker 1: church hurt. He was like, I just don't feel He said,
[35:19] Speaker 1: I just don't want to go through this again. And
[35:21] Speaker 1: I was like, I said, I literally told him, I said, Marquis,
[35:23] Speaker 1: I was like, the pastor is not God. I was like,
[35:25] Speaker 1: he's human, just like we are. I said, you, we're
[35:28] Speaker 1: going to church to get close to God. If that
[35:31] Speaker 1: person is delivering the message the way you need it,
[35:33] Speaker 1: we have to give them grace in their personal life,
[35:34] Speaker 1: right Like, we can't judge.
[35:36] Speaker 4: That or that ain't ain't your business.
[35:39] Speaker 3: If God sends a message, and you know when that
[35:42] Speaker 3: message is yours coming through that person. Oh, you know,
[35:45] Speaker 3: God spoke to you through that person. It's easy to
[35:47] Speaker 3: start to see the person as God and miss the
[35:50] Speaker 3: spirit that came through. Yes, listen, I've gotten messages from
[35:54] Speaker 3: Winos on the street that was like, oh that was
[35:56] Speaker 3: God just spoke to me.
[35:57] Speaker 2: Uh huh.
[35:57] Speaker 4: So I've learned to.
[35:58] Speaker 3: Completely be when you when you listen and you're open
[36:02] Speaker 3: and you're here, you know, you know because and in
[36:05] Speaker 3: my life, if I praise something and like I have
[36:10] Speaker 3: friends who are praying for me, your prophet like Andy
[36:12] Speaker 3: will do you, God will send somebody to confirm the
[36:15] Speaker 3: exact prayer, the exact thought, the exact thing I'm going
[36:18] Speaker 3: through almost in the exact words.
[36:20] Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, he keep talking to he all in your business?
[36:29] Speaker 2: Right, So good, so good. So let's talk about something
[36:33] Speaker 2: that you and I talk about. My men. Oh lord,
[36:38] Speaker 2: I my man.
[36:39] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[36:40] Speaker 1: So for the longest, like you've seen me go through
[36:42] Speaker 1: different relationships and recently it was a night that we
[36:46] Speaker 1: all went to dinner after you moderated Michelle Obama's book
[36:49] Speaker 1: tour here in Atlanta, and you said, Crystal, you are
[36:53] Speaker 1: vibrating here.
[36:55] Speaker 2: Your man is here. And I was like, oh, you're.
[36:58] Speaker 1: Trying to tell me I'm a low vibrational tyler trying
[37:00] Speaker 1: to say and I was like, oh, I had to
[37:02] Speaker 1: think about that.
[37:02] Speaker 2: I was like, wow, Like am I well? You know
[37:05] Speaker 2: what I'm saying. You were like you're here and he's
[37:07] Speaker 2: up here. You gotta you gotta go higher, get yeah. Yeah,
[37:11] Speaker 2: And I was like, wow, that's crazy.
[37:13] Speaker 3: I was probably had a gummy that night, so I
[37:15] Speaker 3: was I give super spiritual.
[37:18] Speaker 4: When I'm on them gummies. But that sounds good, Okay,
[37:20] Speaker 4: go ahead.
[37:20] Speaker 2: It was really good.
[37:22] Speaker 4: Just five milligrams a week.
[37:23] Speaker 2: That's all I could do.
[37:25] Speaker 3: You know, if I try anything else, I'd be like no, no, y'all,
[37:28] Speaker 3: come get me going to the hospital. Five milligrad yeah,
[37:33] Speaker 3: but understanding yeah, And and having people meet you at
[37:36] Speaker 3: your work, that's what I was.
[37:38] Speaker 1: Yes, when you said that, we were one of our
[37:41] Speaker 1: many nights at your Island dollar in the King's Landing
[37:44] Speaker 1: room at the table you said you just hit you. You
[37:47] Speaker 1: probably was on the gummy there too. You was like,
[37:50] Speaker 1: meet me at my.
[37:51] Speaker 2: Worth and we were all like, wow, that's it. Yeah,
[37:55] Speaker 2: that's it.
[37:56] Speaker 3: And and and anybody who can't do that. That doesn't
[37:58] Speaker 3: mean they're not worthy of you. That means that they
[38:01] Speaker 3: need to either attempt try learn find out enough about
[38:05] Speaker 3: you to be able to figure out what that is.
[38:07] Speaker 3: And that's not money because because you listen a lot
[38:11] Speaker 3: of women, especially black women, And if I get in
[38:14] Speaker 3: trouble for saying this, but I will. In our society
[38:20] Speaker 3: right now, black women are making a lot more money
[38:23] Speaker 3: for the most part than black men. Right There are
[38:25] Speaker 3: a lot of black men who are successful, but for
[38:26] Speaker 3: the most part, black women are making the money. So you,
[38:29] Speaker 3: if you can find love, if that man works, you know,
[38:34] Speaker 3: at whatever job, and is a good man and is
[38:37] Speaker 3: good to you and honors and honors the house and
[38:41] Speaker 3: honors white and does what he can because his gift.
[38:45] Speaker 4: May not be your gift exactly.
[38:47] Speaker 3: That is okay. That's not somebody who's beneath you. That's
[38:50] Speaker 3: somebody who came to love you at your work, right
[38:53] Speaker 3: and as long as he's secure in himself to know that, yep,
[38:56] Speaker 3: she makes most of the money.
[38:57] Speaker 4: All I can pay is the light bill.
[38:59] Speaker 3: As long as he's comfortable enough to say, I'm gonna
[39:01] Speaker 3: cover the mortgage and all the other stuff you've handed
[39:03] Speaker 3: light deild.
[39:04] Speaker 4: Baby, you can take me to dinner and every now
[39:05] Speaker 4: and then. That is fine, Yeah, that's fine.
[39:10] Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's so hard for a lot of people
[39:12] Speaker 3: to take in because that means no, no, no, I
[39:15] Speaker 3: need somebody to who is I need?
[39:19] Speaker 4: They need to make five times more and I got
[39:21] Speaker 4: to have that. I got to have. Don't keep your list, baby, Yeah,
[39:25] Speaker 4: God bless you, hope it haven't. Don't keep your list.
[39:28] Speaker 3: But when you talk about just someone to love you
[39:30] Speaker 3: and support you, I know people who have who whose.
[39:36] Speaker 4: Men can't touch what they make.
[39:40] Speaker 3: But when you see them together, that love, that support,
[39:43] Speaker 3: that that I got you, babe, it's a beautiful thing.
[39:46] Speaker 2: It is, it is.
[39:48] Speaker 1: I remember I was having a conversation with you and
[39:50] Speaker 1: I was going, I can admit that I had fallen
[39:52] Speaker 1: under that, Like, Okay, I actually may have misunderstood what
[39:56] Speaker 1: meet me at my worth meant. I thought, meet me
[39:59] Speaker 1: at my work with meet me at my network network.
[40:02] Speaker 3: Right right now, network at least meet me at my network.
[40:06] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[40:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, And I was talking to you.
[40:08] Speaker 1: I was like and Tyl, I was like, this is
[40:09] Speaker 1: this is this and I've done this this and You're
[40:11] Speaker 1: like wait wait wait wait, wait stop he was like,
[40:14] Speaker 1: don't make it about money.
[40:16] Speaker 2: And this is when I was like, oh my gosh.
[40:19] Speaker 1: It was like like it just went off, and I
[40:21] Speaker 1: was like, I see what you're saying.
[40:22] Speaker 2: You were like, Chris, I do the same thing.
[40:24] Speaker 1: I would like be doing all these things for someone
[40:26] Speaker 1: or people around me, and I'm like, they're not doing
[40:28] Speaker 1: I'm not getting anything in return, you know. And we
[40:31] Speaker 1: fall into that sometimes. And you said, but then I
[40:33] Speaker 1: thought about it. They can't do for me the way
[40:35] Speaker 1: I do. It's just like they can't. You got when
[40:38] Speaker 1: you explained like that, if he is giving you all
[40:40] Speaker 1: these other things, then that's something you work with.
[40:44] Speaker 2: And I did.
[40:45] Speaker 1: I literally completely misconstrued, but meet me at my worth
[40:49] Speaker 1: end in that moment. But worth is more than that,
[40:52] Speaker 1: you know. And that's when I was like, Wow, this
[40:54] Speaker 1: is way deeper.
[40:55] Speaker 3: You got to remove the money from the situation because
[40:58] Speaker 3: it's just gonna cloud it.
[40:59] Speaker 4: And then you have your girlfriend and this friend.
[41:01] Speaker 3: Saying he's doing this and he ain't got that he
[41:03] Speaker 3: did you don't understand the love that we have for
[41:06] Speaker 3: each other. And that is what is important. And I'm
[41:10] Speaker 3: telling you there are some good men who can't meet
[41:14] Speaker 3: you at your net Worth.
[41:15] Speaker 4: Yeah yeah.
[41:16] Speaker 3: And if you can find a man who is secure
[41:20] Speaker 3: enough within himself to stand in that space, yeah yeah.
[41:24] Speaker 3: I'll tell you the story. Oprah tells the story about
[41:26] Speaker 3: her and Stepmen. She was they were in Hawaii and
[41:30] Speaker 3: she was walking. This is years ago. She walked in
[41:32] Speaker 3: the store. He was behind her and no, I'll tell
[41:36] Speaker 3: you this story. This is because I was there for
[41:37] Speaker 3: this one. We were coming out of the Color Purple
[41:41] Speaker 3: premiere in New York and it's Tina Turner, Oprah and
[41:47] Speaker 3: me and Gail. We're all kid in the car and well, listen,
[41:50] Speaker 3: that's when I first knew. That's when I first knew
[41:52] Speaker 3: something had shifted. Okay, wow, because Oprah walks out in
[41:56] Speaker 3: the scam Oprah, Oprah, Oprah, Tina walks out of Tina, Tina,
[41:59] Speaker 3: I go out of here.
[42:01] Speaker 4: I go oh, this was very early on.
[42:03] Speaker 3: So they're pushing us into the limo and I've turned
[42:09] Speaker 3: back and Steedman, the security is pushing.
[42:12] Speaker 4: Him out of the way, not letting him in.
[42:15] Speaker 2: Wow.
[42:15] Speaker 3: I watched him tap the man on the shoulder and
[42:17] Speaker 3: say hey. He goes, oh, oh, I'm sorry, mister Graham,
[42:20] Speaker 3: and he let him in the car. But do you know,
[42:23] Speaker 3: when I saw that man who's six foot six in
[42:27] Speaker 3: that situation, I went wow, look at the grace and
[42:31] Speaker 3: how he carried it. He didn't get a car with
[42:32] Speaker 3: an attitude. He wasn't mad, which takes me back to
[42:35] Speaker 3: the store in Hawaii when when they were in the
[42:37] Speaker 3: store and everybody swarmed around Oprah. He was watching protectively.
[42:41] Speaker 3: And after she was she was leaving the store, the
[42:46] Speaker 3: store owner, older person said to her, Listen.
[42:49] Speaker 4: I watched that man how he loves you. I watched
[42:52] Speaker 4: that man how his ore is all around you, making
[42:54] Speaker 4: sure you're okay and safe.
[42:56] Speaker 3: So so and stepman does well in life.
[42:59] Speaker 4: Yeah, but I don't know nobody doing well as open
[43:02] Speaker 4: hell up, you know what I mean. Yeah, So it
[43:04] Speaker 4: can't be about the money. It can't be about the money.
[43:05] Speaker 1: That was like, that was a good nugget that you
[43:07] Speaker 1: gave me recently, And I was like wow, because you
[43:10] Speaker 1: do get caught up into what your girls are saying
[43:12] Speaker 1: and what society because.
[43:13] Speaker 3: That's going to but that's that's and if you try
[43:15] Speaker 3: to make it about the money, then it's always going
[43:17] Speaker 3: to be about the money. And the money is you
[43:19] Speaker 3: have to understand that when you start to make money
[43:21] Speaker 3: and do well. That becomes a part of the perception
[43:24] Speaker 3: of who you are, right, and that's okay. Yeah, that
[43:26] Speaker 3: was the thing that bothered me about it only sees
[43:29] Speaker 3: my money, only sees my money, and I'm a good person.
[43:32] Speaker 4: Had to let all that go.
[43:33] Speaker 3: Was like, well, the money is a part of your
[43:36] Speaker 3: person now, so let that be wow, And that's okay, Yeah.
[43:40] Speaker 2: It is now.
[43:41] Speaker 1: When you started making money, we talked about money as
[43:44] Speaker 1: a part of the person.
[43:45] Speaker 4: Listen, that's a whole nother podcast.
[43:46] Speaker 3: The financial literacy, Yes, yes, but the go ahead that's yeah.
[43:50] Speaker 1: Even like with like family and friends, what did you
[43:53] Speaker 1: go through when you start, because that's the thing I
[43:57] Speaker 1: start to deal with now, you know, just the entire
[43:59] Speaker 1: of and or like gimme, gimmy, gimme and the Rydom
[44:02] Speaker 1: text message is and he like, I'm just waiting to
[44:04] Speaker 1: ask me for.
[44:05] Speaker 3: I had to tell yeah, because usually what happens is,
[44:08] Speaker 3: you know, they don't, they don't talk to you forever,
[44:10] Speaker 3: and then they're like, hey, how you doing. You've been
[44:12] Speaker 3: on my mind. God told me to pray for you
[44:14] Speaker 3: on my heart. I'm thinking, okay, ten nine eight, can
[44:18] Speaker 3: you send me thirty thousand dollars because I need.
[44:21] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[44:21] Speaker 3: And then I had another family member sent and it
[44:23] Speaker 3: said there and I was hurt by it. I said, listen,
[44:25] Speaker 3: you sent me a text asking for thirty thousand dollars.
[44:28] Speaker 3: That's offensive, like call me see how I'm doing. Yes,
[44:32] Speaker 3: And then and then I don't mind, you know, I
[44:34] Speaker 3: don't mind giving you the money. Well, this family member
[44:36] Speaker 3: got offended, so I'll never asked you for nothing else.
[44:39] Speaker 3: I was just after well, I was just saying, how
[44:41] Speaker 3: how impersonal?
[44:42] Speaker 2: The text is yeah, absolutely.
[44:46] Speaker 3: A little while later, get another text I need, I
[44:49] Speaker 3: need thirty thousand dollars the same person. And then the
[44:52] Speaker 3: follow up text was make it forty tyler.
[44:56] Speaker 4: I kid you not.
[44:58] Speaker 3: And I was hurt by this, the fact that make
[45:01] Speaker 3: it forty yeah, yes, just that it was just so
[45:03] Speaker 3: blatantly like I'm just the money, right, Yeah. And I
[45:06] Speaker 3: get to this place called it's this thing called compassion
[45:09] Speaker 3: fatigue where you just gift, exhausted from giving, like and
[45:13] Speaker 3: you and for me, I have to go away and
[45:16] Speaker 3: pray and get myself back together because I get to get.
[45:20] Speaker 4: My face kind of place, you know what I mean.
[45:21] Speaker 4: So so I have.
[45:22] Speaker 3: To go back and get right with that but having that,
[45:25] Speaker 3: having you know, family members.
[45:28] Speaker 2: You know, that's crazy.
[45:30] Speaker 1: Yeah, I just wonder how you deal on your level
[45:32] Speaker 1: because nobody's calling me for thirty Well.
[45:36] Speaker 4: Right, right, so let's go back. Let's go back.
[45:40] Speaker 3: But you know what, I learned to accept them as
[45:42] Speaker 3: who they are, and family doesn't necessarily have to be
[45:47] Speaker 3: the people that are your blood. So I started surrounding
[45:50] Speaker 3: myself with people who genuinely cared about me. Yeah, if
[45:54] Speaker 3: we were on a boat on just someone, we're in
[45:56] Speaker 3: our groups on the trips, if we're on a boat,
[45:58] Speaker 3: if we're on the island for you know, these people care. Yes,
[46:00] Speaker 3: they can't pay for it, but they're there because they
[46:04] Speaker 3: want to support you and care for you. And that
[46:06] Speaker 3: feels more like family. Yeah. So my family gets money,
[46:13] Speaker 3: but they have to work or they won't get money,
[46:16] Speaker 3: right because I'm not the bank and I'm not the government. Yeah,
[46:24] Speaker 3: and I think it's important that people work. So working
[46:28] Speaker 3: is so important.
[46:30] Speaker 2: I agree.
[46:31] Speaker 1: Was there ever a moment where you had survivors remorris
[46:34] Speaker 1: where you the only person in your family that has
[46:36] Speaker 1: made it, where you feel like, no, I feel bad
[46:39] Speaker 1: that I'm the one that made it and everybody else
[46:41] Speaker 1: did And so I got it.
[46:41] Speaker 2: I have to do these things.
[46:43] Speaker 3: First year I made money, I've went from being dead broke.
[46:47] Speaker 3: I was twenty eight years old. I made one hundred
[46:48] Speaker 3: and thirty thousand dollars. I was said, oh my god,
[46:50] Speaker 3: one hundred and thirty thousand dollars. Got to the end
[46:52] Speaker 3: of the year, had nothing to pay my taxes because
[46:55] Speaker 3: I've given it all the way. Wow, that's so much guilt.
[46:58] Speaker 3: But I've given it to all the family, all friends.
[47:01] Speaker 3: Next year, I think I made a million and a half.
[47:03] Speaker 3: Same thing happened again. Wow, next year I made seven million.
[47:08] Speaker 3: Same thing happen again because I had so much guilt
[47:11] Speaker 3: because I had and I think this is something that
[47:12] Speaker 3: we as black people carry because of what we've been through.
[47:16] Speaker 3: And when you have you think, oh my god, I
[47:18] Speaker 3: need to bring everybody else up with me. That's a
[47:21] Speaker 3: beautiful thought. But in the beginning that's bullshit. Take bullshit.
[47:27] Speaker 3: Get take that out of your mind, because I'm going
[47:29] Speaker 3: to tell you right now. If you have a boat
[47:31] Speaker 3: that can help you get to one from this place
[47:34] Speaker 3: to that place so that you can get a bigger
[47:36] Speaker 3: boat and you can only take two or three people,
[47:39] Speaker 3: don't let everybody on that boat, and you got to
[47:41] Speaker 3: be also careful because when you put too many people
[47:43] Speaker 3: on the boat, there's some trying to put holes in
[47:45] Speaker 3: it because they wanted to sink, because they don't like
[47:49] Speaker 3: that you're sailing.
[47:51] Speaker 4: Yeah, so you have to be careful, right, Or.
[47:55] Speaker 3: There's some that are putting holes in the boat because
[47:58] Speaker 3: they don't feel that there were of it. And I've
[48:01] Speaker 3: had that too, where I was trying to pull people
[48:03] Speaker 3: up to come on, come on this as far as
[48:05] Speaker 3: we can. We've been together all these years. We can
[48:07] Speaker 3: make this happen. It's gonna be wonderful. It's gonna be great.
[48:09] Speaker 3: But the whole thing that I had to realize is
[48:13] Speaker 3: that some people cannot survive at certain altitudes. So if
[48:17] Speaker 3: you're pulling somebody up a hill, who when you get
[48:20] Speaker 3: to ten thousand feet they can't breathe, You're going to
[48:22] Speaker 3: kill them. Yeah, So it's okay to leave them there
[48:26] Speaker 3: until they learned the conditioning of what it takes to
[48:28] Speaker 3: be at ten thousand feet.
[48:30] Speaker 4: Wow.
[48:30] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's good, that's Good's true. I'm going through a season.
[48:34] Speaker 1: I just did an episode called on Purging season and
[48:36] Speaker 1: season three, and it was just about.
[48:39] Speaker 4: Say that again. I'm sorry. Purging Season season.
[48:41] Speaker 2: One, Yeah, yeah, season one.
[48:42] Speaker 1: I did an episode called Purging Season and it's literally
[48:45] Speaker 1: like God was just removing people like friends, family.
[48:48] Speaker 2: It was just like, Lord, what is happening right now?
[48:51] Speaker 1: And you're starting to see that, Like you said, people
[48:53] Speaker 1: can't breathe the algietude that you're going to or you
[48:56] Speaker 1: did a speech about it. I think it was a
[48:58] Speaker 1: commencement speech on we talk about rocket boosters. Yeah, and
[49:02] Speaker 1: I was like when you said that, that's exactly what
[49:04] Speaker 1: came to mind when I thought about, Lord, what is
[49:06] Speaker 1: this that you're taking me through right now? Because I
[49:08] Speaker 1: felt like I was losing people I was really close to.
[49:11] Speaker 1: But everybody can't go Yeah, you know, and you've.
[49:14] Speaker 3: Ever seen a bunch of kids on America around it
[49:16] Speaker 3: goes faster and faster and faster and faster and faster.
[49:18] Speaker 3: What you find is that the people who are closest
[49:21] Speaker 3: to the center can hold the tightest.
[49:23] Speaker 4: The ones who are out.
[49:24] Speaker 3: Toward the who are holding on are getting the most
[49:27] Speaker 3: of the g forces. It's to they can't handle it. Yeah,
[49:31] Speaker 3: So those people have fallen. So I called it the
[49:33] Speaker 3: spind theory. Sometimes in your life you'll start to spend
[49:37] Speaker 3: and you're spinning up to the next level and people
[49:39] Speaker 3: start to fall off, and let me tell you something.
[49:41] Speaker 4: It hurts.
[49:42] Speaker 3: It's lonely, especially when it's somebody that you really really
[49:47] Speaker 3: loved and had a great time with and wish that
[49:49] Speaker 3: they could be there with you. But you have to
[49:52] Speaker 3: understand and realize that that toxicity is poisoned to your wings.
[49:58] Speaker 4: It will cause you to crash.
[50:01] Speaker 3: So you have to be able to say I love you,
[50:06] Speaker 3: but I'm sorry, this does not work for me. Then
[50:08] Speaker 3: you get the shit all you boogie you changing what's
[50:11] Speaker 3: Oh no, now you've got all this and you don't
[50:13] Speaker 3: want None of that matters. Yeah, walk through the pain
[50:17] Speaker 3: of the loneliness. Come tell you something. The higher you go,
[50:20] Speaker 3: the smaller that circle gets.
[50:22] Speaker 2: You're so right. Yeah, I'm just getting started.
[50:24] Speaker 4: I see it, and it's okay.
[50:26] Speaker 3: It's okay because I promise you, if you ask God
[50:29] Speaker 3: to give you what you need, they show up.
[50:32] Speaker 2: They do. Yeah, show up, And I have what I need.
[50:34] Speaker 1: I do like, I really have a good core, and
[50:37] Speaker 1: everybody that's around me, I know they love me, they
[50:39] Speaker 1: support me wholeheartedly. We all have our own thing going on,
[50:43] Speaker 1: and it's no jealousy.
[50:45] Speaker 3: And that's what that's what you want, because jealousy will
[50:48] Speaker 3: show up in ways that you didn't even expect it.
[50:52] Speaker 3: And people who've been right up under you as long
[50:55] Speaker 3: as you didn't exceed what they thought you could be,
[50:59] Speaker 3: the minute you start to go higher than they believed
[51:01] Speaker 3: you could go, it's ugly.
[51:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, no, absolutely, yeah, that's a real thing. And it
[51:07] Speaker 2: is lonely. It is they say it's lonely at the
[51:09] Speaker 2: top of it. Now, we're not lying.
[51:11] Speaker 3: But here's what I had to learn how to do.
[51:12] Speaker 3: I had to learn to get all of my friends.
[51:16] Speaker 3: Nobody can give you all everything you need. So all
[51:19] Speaker 3: of my friends were brought something. It's like a like
[51:24] Speaker 3: you have a pot luck where you can bring everybody
[51:26] Speaker 3: brings it something to eat, and some people may be
[51:29] Speaker 3: able to bring fruit, something, bring vegetables something, bring chicken something.
[51:33] Speaker 3: So I had all of my friends bring me something different, yes,
[51:36] Speaker 3: so that I have all that I need. You can't
[51:39] Speaker 3: get it from one person.
[51:40] Speaker 2: Absolutely, it's so good. I love that.
[51:45] Speaker 1: Denor had actually spoke on something recently that piggybacks off
[51:48] Speaker 1: of what you said. She goes a lot of times
[51:49] Speaker 1: when God brings people in your life, You're like, why
[51:51] Speaker 1: am I not getting what I'm putting into this? Like
[51:54] Speaker 1: I'm pooring, I'm pooring, I'm pouring into this person, but
[51:56] Speaker 1: I'm not getting it back. And she said that sometimes
[52:00] Speaker 1: that person isn't put in your life to pour back
[52:02] Speaker 1: into you. You're on an assignment to them. And if
[52:04] Speaker 1: somebody else is going to bring you what you need.
[52:06] Speaker 3: That's that's your one right, that's exactly right, and and
[52:10] Speaker 3: you have to understand that when it's your time to poor,
[52:15] Speaker 3: do that, yes, and hopefully that seed that you're watering
[52:22] Speaker 3: will start to grow in that person. Because I've seen
[52:25] Speaker 3: this like in you, like seeing you come up to
[52:29] Speaker 3: this place of like, look I poured into an now.
[52:31] Speaker 3: Look And I've got thousands of those examples in the
[52:34] Speaker 3: studios like I poured it in look at them now.
[52:37] Speaker 3: And it warms me so much because when you're pouring
[52:41] Speaker 3: poor with pure intention, yes, and then you don't worry
[52:45] Speaker 3: about being hurt if it doesn't work out. Just be
[52:50] Speaker 3: pure and your intention. Don't let people change your intention,
[52:53] Speaker 3: even if they give you their ass to kiss after
[52:56] Speaker 3: you were trying to help them. Don't stop who you
[52:58] Speaker 3: are going and help the next person. Yeah, you know,
[53:01] Speaker 3: so that is so important, so important.
[53:03] Speaker 4: That's really good. It's really good.
[53:05] Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, she's been dropping some nuggets.
[53:10] Speaker 2: I'm like, girl, God is really talking to you and me.
[53:13] Speaker 2: I love it.
[53:15] Speaker 1: So I want to go back to some of your journey.
[53:17] Speaker 1: You started off in the Childing's circuit with media plays.
[53:19] Speaker 1: You worked your way up to owning your own studio.
[53:23] Speaker 1: At the time that you were like doing The Smaller Place,
[53:27] Speaker 1: what was it for like even actually, I want to
[53:29] Speaker 1: go back to when you decided, like I was what
[53:33] Speaker 1: was that in between phases, like right before things went crazy,
[53:36] Speaker 1: Like when.
[53:36] Speaker 2: You were doing the Smaller Place, What was that.
[53:40] Speaker 3: Like there was no in between phases? Was twenty eight
[53:42] Speaker 3: years old? Was twenty seven broke?
[53:44] Speaker 4: Homeless? Twenty eight? I had been trying to do the
[53:47] Speaker 4: show for seven.
[53:48] Speaker 3: Years, and in nineteen ninety eight the show took off.
[53:52] Speaker 4: So it was famine, famine, famine.
[53:54] Speaker 3: Struggles, struggle, desert, desert, desert, Jesus. Then all of a sudden,
[53:58] Speaker 3: it was abundance. It was the abundant rain pouring. So
[54:02] Speaker 3: I went from ninety when I started in ninety eight.
[54:04] Speaker 3: This is why I feel like I missed twelve years
[54:06] Speaker 3: of my life though. I was working so hard ninety eight,
[54:10] Speaker 3: at twenty eight, and I came I kind of came
[54:13] Speaker 3: to myself at forty, like I woke up going, oh,
[54:17] Speaker 3: you did it, but you missed everything because there's so
[54:23] Speaker 3: many of those moments I don't remember. I was so
[54:26] Speaker 3: laser focused on making the success work. And also I
[54:30] Speaker 3: was afraid of going back that we talked about earlier.
[54:34] Speaker 3: I didn't want to be broke again. I didn't want to,
[54:37] Speaker 3: you know, I need to have my medicine for my mother.
[54:39] Speaker 3: That's how it all started. I just need to if
[54:40] Speaker 3: I lowered my prayer was older, just let me make
[54:43] Speaker 3: enough money take care of her. And I had millions
[54:46] Speaker 3: and it still wasn't enough in my mind. So I
[54:49] Speaker 3: was still going really really really hard until she died.
[54:52] Speaker 3: When she died, it had reset me, like everything I
[54:57] Speaker 3: was pushing for was gone.
[55:00] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[55:01] Speaker 3: But but those those times were so such a blur
[55:08] Speaker 3: because I just worked all the way through.
[55:11] Speaker 2: Do you have any regrets?
[55:13] Speaker 3: Sometimes I do because I look, I feel like I'm
[55:17] Speaker 3: twelve years younger because I went into this silo of
[55:21] Speaker 3: working and I came out twelve years later of like okay,
[55:25] Speaker 3: oh wait, this is what the world is, this is
[55:28] Speaker 3: what Wait people, well they were enjoying themselves at these
[55:33] Speaker 3: parties and oscars and award shows. I wouldn't you know,
[55:37] Speaker 3: how I would walk in. I was like, I'm not Nope,
[55:40] Speaker 3: this is worka workay, yeah.
[55:41] Speaker 4: We're good. Back to work.
[55:42] Speaker 3: Literally, So I feel like I missed twelve years of
[55:45] Speaker 3: my life. Even though now I look back at some
[55:49] Speaker 3: wonderful things happened, I'm telling you I missed them all.
[55:52] Speaker 3: Like I'll see photos or somebody remind us you remember
[55:55] Speaker 3: when I go, wow, you're.
[55:57] Speaker 2: Right, yeah, yeah, that's amazing.
[55:59] Speaker 4: But instead of being fifty three, I'm forty one. There go,
[56:05] Speaker 4: there you go, there go.
[56:06] Speaker 2: I love it.
[56:08] Speaker 1: What does a billionaire like you who has a busy schedule,
[56:12] Speaker 1: what do you do for yourself?
[56:14] Speaker 2: Like, what do you you know?
[56:15] Speaker 1: A lot of players say like, I take this is
[56:16] Speaker 1: my meantime, this is what I do.
[56:18] Speaker 2: What do you do for fun? What do you do
[56:19] Speaker 2: to like take care of tyler, of your body?
[56:22] Speaker 1: I know you work out or do you like to travel,
[56:24] Speaker 1: But like, what are things that you do Because a
[56:26] Speaker 1: lot of people are like, you're working all the time.
[56:28] Speaker 2: When do you have time for just you?
[56:30] Speaker 3: You know, what people think that I'm a lot busier
[56:32] Speaker 3: than I am. But because we work so fast, because
[56:35] Speaker 3: I build in bricks, I don't try to kill myself
[56:38] Speaker 3: like like I would have back then. But now no
[56:41] Speaker 3: I building. I'm gonna work three months, really really hard, NonStop.
[56:44] Speaker 3: I'm gonna exhaust myself and I'm gonna take two months off.
[56:46] Speaker 3: I'm gonna go to my place in Wyoming or Colorado.
[56:49] Speaker 3: I'm gonna walk through the woods and be in nature.
[56:51] Speaker 3: I'm gonna talk to God. I'm gonna go down to
[56:53] Speaker 3: the island. I'm gonna cry, I'm gonna pray. I'm gonna
[56:56] Speaker 3: lick my wounds to see who who stayed, who didn't. Where?
[57:01] Speaker 3: Am I hurt? Am I okay? Am I feeling loved?
[57:03] Speaker 3: Am I feeling supported? I check in with myself. I
[57:07] Speaker 3: talk to God about it. It's so important. It's so important.
[57:11] Speaker 3: But the biggest thing that I do, because I can
[57:13] Speaker 3: do it every day that I'm working. It's just build airplanes.
[57:16] Speaker 3: Build modern airplane. Yes, me and my me and my
[57:19] Speaker 3: son will sit there and just he's loving it. Where
[57:22] Speaker 3: you know, it's just it's the simplest thing. But to
[57:26] Speaker 3: build something that will be able to fly. I feel
[57:30] Speaker 3: like I'm teaching my son how to literally fly.
[57:34] Speaker 2: Wow.
[57:34] Speaker 4: So so those moments are really beautiful. And this kid,
[57:39] Speaker 4: you see, you know, he's he's amazing.
[57:41] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, brilliant. Oh my gosh.
[57:44] Speaker 1: I can't wait to see where he goes and what
[57:47] Speaker 1: he decides to do.
[57:48] Speaker 2: His life is going to be amazing.
[57:49] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[57:49] Speaker 3: And you know, whatever it is, I just want him
[57:53] Speaker 3: to be the best at it and be happy.
[57:54] Speaker 2: I love it.
[57:55] Speaker 4: Yeah, just be happy, son.
[57:57] Speaker 3: Yeah, because right now it's a race car driver astro that,
[58:00] Speaker 3: and a track and field runner and a comedian.
[58:03] Speaker 4: So I love it.
[58:04] Speaker 3: We had a business meeting in my office a few
[58:06] Speaker 3: weeks ago and I was asking him. You know, he
[58:09] Speaker 3: was in the room when I was having all these meetings,
[58:11] Speaker 3: and he comes, Okay, Papa's my turn to meet have
[58:15] Speaker 3: see what do you want to talk about? I want
[58:16] Speaker 3: to talk about my life and my career and what
[58:18] Speaker 3: I'm going to do. It's like, okay, eight years old.
[58:21] Speaker 2: I love it.
[58:22] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[58:22] Speaker 3: So I recorded, and I can't wait to show him
[58:24] Speaker 3: when he's older, like, this is what you wanted to
[58:26] Speaker 3: talk about.
[58:26] Speaker 2: That that is amazing. That's amazing.
[58:29] Speaker 1: When you are dealing with things mental health, is really big,
[58:33] Speaker 1: like a black community is like really honing in on
[58:36] Speaker 1: it and understanding it more. We're more open to therapy.
[58:39] Speaker 1: Who does someone like Tyler Perry talk to. You have
[58:41] Speaker 1: someone that you can like say, hey, this is what
[58:43] Speaker 1: I'm going through Jesus.
[58:46] Speaker 4: Yeah, no, Oprah td Jake's you know I have. I have.
[58:50] Speaker 3: Michelle Obama. I have really good people who have been
[58:54] Speaker 3: through some things. I used to talk to Sicily Tyson
[58:57] Speaker 3: about things, just that level of history and lessons that
[59:01] Speaker 3: she's learned. And Sidney Poitier. I went to the Masters. Yes,
[59:05] Speaker 3: I was flying to Africa, and I invited both of
[59:08] Speaker 3: them to fly with me. So I literally sat at
[59:10] Speaker 3: their feet listening to their stories. You know, Clarence Avon
[59:13] Speaker 3: died a couple of days ago, and he just was
[59:18] Speaker 3: He was the Black golf he was and any time
[59:22] Speaker 3: you needed anything or something put together this or presidents
[59:25] Speaker 3: or that, he was the man. So you know, I
[59:30] Speaker 3: had a chance to spend time with him. That that's
[59:32] Speaker 3: just k Quincy Jones, These guys, Harry Belafante on the
[59:35] Speaker 3: phone with him, That's what I mean that those those
[59:38] Speaker 3: are the people. But all our legends are getting out
[59:40] Speaker 3: of here. So so I'm hoping that, you know, more
[59:45] Speaker 3: of us will be open to sharing. You know, when
[59:48] Speaker 3: I told Jay jay z, he he is one of
[59:50] Speaker 3: those people. It's like, listen, I got the information, come
[59:53] Speaker 3: get it, you know. So yeah, but as so as
[59:57] Speaker 3: of mental health goes, I tell you the main problem.
[59:59] Speaker 4: That's how you look at the.
[1:00:02] Speaker 3: Tobacco crisis, when everybody was talking about how cigarettes were
[1:00:05] Speaker 3: in the beginning, they were safer, but people made billions
[1:00:08] Speaker 3: of dollars on it. Then you look at all the
[1:00:11] Speaker 3: other opioid crisis, crack cocaine. Right, there's another crisis that
[1:00:15] Speaker 3: is happening that is affecting people's mental health in ways
[1:00:20] Speaker 3: that nobody's talking about. And I'm hoping one day that
[1:00:24] Speaker 3: it comes crashing down like the tobacco industry, like the
[1:00:29] Speaker 3: opioid addiction industry, Perdue pharma, And that is social media.
[1:00:35] Speaker 2: I knew you're going to say that, Oh my gosh,
[1:00:37] Speaker 2: you are right.
[1:00:39] Speaker 4: If you don't believe me, try to turn it off
[1:00:41] Speaker 4: and put it down.
[1:00:42] Speaker 1: I pick up my phone randomly, like right, I'll be
[1:00:45] Speaker 1: doing something. Then before I know what, I'm just scrolling
[1:00:47] Speaker 1: on Instagram.
[1:00:48] Speaker 2: It's like a drug.
[1:00:49] Speaker 3: Yes, and you're being fed whatever whatever algorithm you chose,
[1:00:55] Speaker 3: because it's attached to where you go, where they are
[1:00:58] Speaker 3: tracking everything you're doing, and whatever mood you're in, you're in,
[1:01:04] Speaker 3: that's what it's going to enhance. Yeah, So if you're
[1:01:07] Speaker 3: a person who's already struggling, sad and depressed and dealing
[1:01:09] Speaker 3: with some things, it's going to be really, really tough
[1:01:12] Speaker 3: to come up higher when you're constantly being fed things
[1:01:16] Speaker 3: that make you sad and depressed.
[1:01:17] Speaker 4: I'm not talking about clinical depression. I'malking about people who
[1:01:20] Speaker 4: are sad and depression.
[1:01:20] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:01:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, No, I used to.
[1:01:23] Speaker 1: I went through a phase where I had body dysmorphia
[1:01:26] Speaker 1: because I would look on Instagram and I would see
[1:01:28] Speaker 1: all these perfect bodies, whether it was plastic surgery bodies
[1:01:31] Speaker 1: or just everything is perfect. Everybody's just showing the highlight reel.
[1:01:34] Speaker 1: That's all you're seeing. You never seeing the downtimes. And
[1:01:37] Speaker 1: I'll try to be more transparent with that because people
[1:01:39] Speaker 1: just think our life is so perfect.
[1:01:40] Speaker 2: I'm like, no, it's nuts.
[1:01:42] Speaker 3: And listen, I know a lot of those folks, and
[1:01:45] Speaker 3: I'd be like, this your life for real, because that
[1:01:48] Speaker 3: ain't what you're really going through.
[1:01:51] Speaker 4: So it's just like Stop with the madness.
[1:01:54] Speaker 3: Stop with the madness of trying to give this perfect
[1:01:57] Speaker 3: image that everything's perfect, because they're people who are really struggling,
[1:02:01] Speaker 3: who are really looking to these images and thinking this.
[1:02:05] Speaker 4: Is how my life should be.
[1:02:06] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:02:06] Speaker 3: Now, if it's aspirational, great, But if it's something that
[1:02:09] Speaker 3: you know, damn well, you got thirty eight filters on
[1:02:12] Speaker 3: two thousands, three touches and forty eight something else to
[1:02:15] Speaker 3: make sure it looks great.
[1:02:16] Speaker 4: Come on, I was that girl. Go ahead, digital botox.
[1:02:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, all the things.
[1:02:25] Speaker 3: I worry about it for my son who's not on it,
[1:02:27] Speaker 3: who doesn't see it. He doesn't you know, he reads books,
[1:02:30] Speaker 3: so I don't want him to be so unaware of it.
[1:02:34] Speaker 3: But I want him to know who he is before
[1:02:36] Speaker 3: the world starts to try to tell him who he is.
[1:02:39] Speaker 2: That's so good. I love it. I love it.
[1:02:42] Speaker 1: So when we talk about God and aligning your vision
[1:02:46] Speaker 1: with God, how do you create the space for God
[1:02:48] Speaker 1: to really like talk to you and say, hey, I
[1:02:50] Speaker 1: know you said. Sometimes things get shaken up when you
[1:02:52] Speaker 1: start to try to go against what God is saying,
[1:02:54] Speaker 1: maybe because you see something totally different.
[1:02:56] Speaker 4: Because your vision is not aligned.
[1:02:58] Speaker 3: And I've learned to surrender to God's bit and I
[1:03:00] Speaker 3: don't try to align have him aligned to my vision.
[1:03:03] Speaker 3: I let the opposite happen. I'm like, Okay, where are
[1:03:06] Speaker 3: we going? What are we doing? And I've learned so
[1:03:11] Speaker 3: much God to trust you that this is the way
[1:03:13] Speaker 3: I'm going to go because I don't want the resistance
[1:03:17] Speaker 3: and the fighting of the other stuff. It's just to
[1:03:19] Speaker 3: surrender to it. But again, I keep going back to
[1:03:21] Speaker 3: social media because it is so hard to hear from
[1:03:25] Speaker 3: God in noise. And if you are the type of
[1:03:29] Speaker 3: person that is seeking advice from every friend you have online,
[1:03:35] Speaker 3: every Instagram, every TikTok, if you're seeking advice, how can
[1:03:39] Speaker 3: you know the still small voice that I believe is God.
[1:03:42] Speaker 3: That's why I have to remove myself and not be
[1:03:46] Speaker 3: on anything digital and just listen to see what I hear.
[1:03:49] Speaker 3: Walking in nature is the best way. I was out
[1:03:51] Speaker 3: in Colorado and the wind just whispered past.
[1:03:57] Speaker 4: I heard it. I thought it was.
[1:03:58] Speaker 3: Traffic coming, because we're up on this out. I thought
[1:04:00] Speaker 3: I was trafficing. Asked to God as a missed that
[1:04:02] Speaker 3: the traffic. He said, no, that's the wind that's coming.
[1:04:04] Speaker 3: And I heard it come that over the mouth down
[1:04:07] Speaker 3: through the valley and come up over it, and and
[1:04:09] Speaker 3: and and for me, that's like I how I think
[1:04:13] Speaker 3: God will speak, like they'll be over there, just a
[1:04:15] Speaker 3: little bit of something that you that you missed. Wow,
[1:04:19] Speaker 3: and then there's another something. Okay, you missed. You missed
[1:04:22] Speaker 3: the acorn, so now the branch has to fall. Okay,
[1:04:25] Speaker 3: you missed the branch. Now the trees got to fall
[1:04:27] Speaker 3: on you. Okay, you still miss that. The whole forest
[1:04:29] Speaker 3: is burning.
[1:04:30] Speaker 4: So I've learned to just when I see the acorn,
[1:04:33] Speaker 4: I'm gonna be like, oh no, no, no, no, let me
[1:04:35] Speaker 4: get Let me.
[1:04:35] Speaker 3: Get that, because I don't want the tree of the
[1:04:36] Speaker 3: forest right, just give me the acorn.
[1:04:39] Speaker 1: Oh that's good, because yeah, the whole forest be burning
[1:04:41] Speaker 1: around me because I'm like, no, I see it this way,
[1:04:45] Speaker 1: like I need to get better as surrendering, I always
[1:04:48] Speaker 1: ask for God to order myself, but I still am
[1:04:50] Speaker 1: very much like, Okay, this is the way I see.
[1:04:53] Speaker 1: I'm just gonna go this way until God is like girl,
[1:04:55] Speaker 1: get yeah.
[1:04:57] Speaker 3: God, God in the Bible says, my thoughts of you
[1:04:59] Speaker 3: are and of a good report, and that you be
[1:05:02] Speaker 3: in health.
[1:05:04] Speaker 4: And prosper as your soul prospers, right, So all of
[1:05:08] Speaker 4: that's good. Right.
[1:05:10] Speaker 3: So if your vision isn't aligned with what's good, then
[1:05:15] Speaker 3: I don't know how that can be. God Right, that's
[1:05:18] Speaker 3: so good, And what's good for you may not be
[1:05:20] Speaker 3: the thing that you're supposed to do at the time,
[1:05:22] Speaker 3: and that's.
[1:05:22] Speaker 2: Normally would I be doing.
[1:05:25] Speaker 1: I always do things that I don't be doing. And
[1:05:29] Speaker 1: God's like, girl, we've been through this before. Why are
[1:05:32] Speaker 1: you still doing the same thing.
[1:05:34] Speaker 3: But let me tell you something. I really didn't understand
[1:05:36] Speaker 3: the love of God until I had a child.
[1:05:38] Speaker 2: Wow.
[1:05:39] Speaker 3: And if God loves us more than I love my child,
[1:05:42] Speaker 3: then I can't even wrap my brain around that.
[1:05:44] Speaker 4: Because this, and he does because this.
[1:05:47] Speaker 3: When I see him making a mistake or when I
[1:05:49] Speaker 3: see him going the wrong, doing something wrong, I'm like, Okay,
[1:05:53] Speaker 3: how do I correct him?
[1:05:54] Speaker 4: How do I get him on the straight narrow? And
[1:05:56] Speaker 4: I'm going to choose the level of correction based on
[1:05:58] Speaker 4: how hard he's going at it.
[1:06:00] Speaker 2: Yep, yeah, yeah, that's good. I love it. I love it.
[1:06:05] Speaker 1: So we talked about you having vision as a little boy,
[1:06:08] Speaker 1: So as an adult, what do you once you have
[1:06:11] Speaker 1: that vision? How do you decid a God? I'm going
[1:06:13] Speaker 1: to partner with you to bring this to life. Is
[1:06:15] Speaker 1: it through prayer, through meditation, or just always keeping him involved.
[1:06:19] Speaker 4: It's his vision. So you riding a law he gave it.
[1:06:24] Speaker 3: Yeah you ain't. You ain't in partnership. It's his vision
[1:06:27] Speaker 3: for your life. So it's it's it's surrendering to where
[1:06:31] Speaker 3: is this taking me? That's the thing, like, where is
[1:06:34] Speaker 3: this taking me? And that's why I'm saying the most
[1:06:36] Speaker 3: frustrating part of my early life was having all.
[1:06:38] Speaker 4: These visions and not seeing the past.
[1:06:40] Speaker 3: Yeah. So I could have did a million plays and
[1:06:44] Speaker 3: never saw anybody ever saw never.
[1:06:47] Speaker 4: God had to line all of that up for it
[1:06:50] Speaker 4: to start to work.
[1:06:51] Speaker 2: Wow.
[1:06:51] Speaker 4: And I had to be willing to get in the
[1:06:54] Speaker 4: middle of it and go hard.
[1:06:56] Speaker 3: That's why I missed those twelve years because I just
[1:06:59] Speaker 3: I was in the world ill yeah still yeah, still,
[1:07:05] Speaker 3: But I'm enjoying my life a lot more now. I'm
[1:07:07] Speaker 3: enjoying them. I'm taking the moments now. I was just
[1:07:10] Speaker 3: at an age where, you know, just running hard.
[1:07:12] Speaker 2: I love you in this phase life, Yeah, happy and.
[1:07:15] Speaker 4: Enjoying, Yeah, wearing nice clothes, going concerts. You know, got
[1:07:19] Speaker 4: some blame things I never bought before.
[1:07:26] Speaker 3: But yeah, yep, had my Zoops suits, my Steve Harbins
[1:07:30] Speaker 3: suits back in the day.
[1:07:31] Speaker 4: I was clean. Have my rabbit. They told me it
[1:07:37] Speaker 4: was a mink, but it was a rabbit when I
[1:07:39] Speaker 4: bought it a Green Briar.
[1:07:43] Speaker 3: Did.
[1:07:43] Speaker 4: I wanted that store still there. I need to go
[1:07:45] Speaker 4: by this store.
[1:07:46] Speaker 2: Just it probably is.
[1:07:47] Speaker 1: It is hilarious, Tyler, Thank you so much. This is
[1:07:51] Speaker 1: no I appreciate you.
[1:07:52] Speaker 4: I am beyond proud of you.
[1:07:54] Speaker 3: Thank you, so proud of thank you looking at you
[1:07:57] Speaker 3: come through all of this, and I was right there
[1:07:59] Speaker 3: with you the whole time.
[1:08:04] Speaker 4: When you wake up in here, you're like.
[1:08:05] Speaker 2: When I open those doors and walk in here, I'm.
[1:08:07] Speaker 4: Like, this is my life.
[1:08:08] Speaker 2: This is my life. Yeah yeah, and it feels so good.
[1:08:11] Speaker 2: Yeah if it's things.
[1:08:13] Speaker 4: So proud of you, Thank you.
[1:08:14] Speaker 2: I appreciate you. Coming today.
[1:08:19] Speaker 1: At the close of the show, we do what's called
[1:08:21] Speaker 1: positive outcomes, where our viewers actually write into us and
[1:08:25] Speaker 1: we're going to give them some advice. So our listener
[1:08:27] Speaker 1: letter today says, Hi, Crystal, thank you for taking the
[1:08:30] Speaker 1: time to help me. Lately, I've been feeling like I'm stuck.
[1:08:33] Speaker 1: It's like I'm being pushed to bigger and greater things.
[1:08:36] Speaker 1: But I feel like I'm getting in my own way.
[1:08:38] Speaker 1: My fear and insecurity keeps holding me back, and I
[1:08:41] Speaker 1: feel my self battle with the fear of others, saying,
[1:08:44] Speaker 1: who does she think she is by fully stepping into.
[1:08:47] Speaker 2: Whatever it greater?
[1:08:48] Speaker 1: Is the best way I can describe it is that
[1:08:51] Speaker 1: feeling when I'm on the boat and God has called
[1:08:53] Speaker 1: me to the water, but my fear of drowning is
[1:08:56] Speaker 1: greater than my faith that God will help me float.
[1:08:58] Speaker 1: So I'm just standing at the edge of the boat,
[1:09:00] Speaker 1: not jumping. How can I get myself to jump?
[1:09:03] Speaker 4: Go back and read again, read again?
[1:09:06] Speaker 1: Okay, all right, Hi Crystal, thank you for taking the
[1:09:10] Speaker 1: time to help me. Lately, I've been feeling like I
[1:09:12] Speaker 1: am stuck. It's like I'm being.
[1:09:14] Speaker 4: Problem number one.
[1:09:16] Speaker 3: I have been feeling like I am stuck. She's speaking
[1:09:21] Speaker 3: that I have been feeling like I am stuck. So
[1:09:24] Speaker 3: you speak things into existence, power of life invested in
[1:09:27] Speaker 3: the tongue. I have been feeling like I am stuck
[1:09:30] Speaker 3: rather than I am not stuck. God, It's gonna make
[1:09:34] Speaker 3: a way. I am not stuck. Going What's there something else?
[1:09:37] Speaker 4: She said?
[1:09:38] Speaker 1: She says, it's like I'm being pushed to bigger and
[1:09:41] Speaker 1: greater things, but I feel like I'm getting in my
[1:09:43] Speaker 1: own way.
[1:09:44] Speaker 3: It's like I'm being pushed. No, I am being pushed
[1:09:48] Speaker 3: to bigger and greater things, but I am getting in
[1:09:52] Speaker 3: my way and understanding your own words here here when
[1:09:55] Speaker 3: you maybe you give them the answers to yourself, I
[1:09:58] Speaker 3: am getting in my own way. Well, why what is
[1:10:01] Speaker 3: your motivation? Why are you getting in your own way?
[1:10:03] Speaker 3: What did mama say? What did daddy say? What they
[1:10:05] Speaker 3: say at school? What did the little girl? And you
[1:10:07] Speaker 3: deal with? That makes you get into the way of
[1:10:10] Speaker 3: the successful woman that's trying to figure it all out.
[1:10:13] Speaker 3: So you've got to go back and undo some of
[1:10:14] Speaker 3: those voices. And every time you hear something negative. When
[1:10:18] Speaker 3: I was coming through all this stuff, every time I
[1:10:19] Speaker 3: would hear something negative, be like, Nope, I'm not letting
[1:10:21] Speaker 3: it in because I believe I can do this. God said,
[1:10:23] Speaker 3: I can do this. This is going to be okay.
[1:10:25] Speaker 3: It's all going to work out every time. Don't let
[1:10:28] Speaker 3: negative voices in your head become your reality, because they will.
[1:10:34] Speaker 4: They will.
[1:10:35] Speaker 2: That is so true, she is.
[1:10:37] Speaker 1: And then she said, my fear and insecurity he was
[1:10:39] Speaker 1: holding me back. I feel myself battle with the fear
[1:10:42] Speaker 1: of other people, saying, who.
[1:10:43] Speaker 2: Does she think she is about fully stepping.
[1:10:45] Speaker 3: Into that my fear and is holding my fear is
[1:10:49] Speaker 3: holding me back. Here's something you have to understand about fear.
[1:10:53] Speaker 3: Fear and excitement can mimic the same emotions in you. Wow,
[1:10:59] Speaker 3: so you can be excited but you think you're afraid.
[1:11:03] Speaker 2: Yes, so you have to.
[1:11:05] Speaker 3: Be clear about what you're identifying, right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:11:10] Speaker 2: Good Wow, you helping me? My goodness?
[1:11:13] Speaker 1: And it says the best way I can describe it
[1:11:15] Speaker 1: is that I feel like I'm on a boat and
[1:11:17] Speaker 1: God has called me to the water, but my fear
[1:11:19] Speaker 1: here goes fear again of drowning is greater than my
[1:11:21] Speaker 1: faith that God.
[1:11:22] Speaker 3: Will help me float Yep, where did it come from?
[1:11:24] Speaker 3: And let me tell you some fear is good. A
[1:11:26] Speaker 3: healthy a healthy dose of fear is good to have
[1:11:28] Speaker 3: because it keeps you grounded, it keeps you humble, and
[1:11:30] Speaker 3: it keeps you praying. I never would have gotten to
[1:11:34] Speaker 3: this place if I hadn't been afraid. Yes, every major
[1:11:39] Speaker 3: decision was like, God, what if this doesn't work out?
[1:11:41] Speaker 4: Do get that out of your head?
[1:11:42] Speaker 3: Because you cannot be afraid because and as I the
[1:11:46] Speaker 3: more and I say this to her, the more successes
[1:11:49] Speaker 3: she has. Even if she looks back in her over
[1:11:51] Speaker 3: her life. Nine times out ten, when I ask people this,
[1:11:54] Speaker 3: that blows the mind. And look back and look back
[1:11:56] Speaker 3: at your entire life and.
[1:11:57] Speaker 4: Tell me how many times God has let you down?
[1:12:03] Speaker 4: Entire life.
[1:12:03] Speaker 3: Yeah, And if you really think about that, your future
[1:12:07] Speaker 3: days should go.
[1:12:08] Speaker 4: Okay.
[1:12:10] Speaker 3: Even when I thought he let me down, even when
[1:12:12] Speaker 3: I thought I had failed, even when I thought I
[1:12:14] Speaker 3: had messed up, that was good for me so that
[1:12:18] Speaker 3: I could be in this position. Yes, yeah, I learned
[1:12:20] Speaker 3: so much in the things that God didn't let me do.
[1:12:22] Speaker 3: And when a door door is closed, that is not
[1:12:25] Speaker 3: a no. Yeah, that that is there's another way, that's
[1:12:30] Speaker 3: another path. It's like being an amazed when you hit
[1:12:32] Speaker 3: that that brick wall. You don't you don't stop. You
[1:12:36] Speaker 3: could Okay, maybe I gotta double back. I gotta go
[1:12:38] Speaker 3: this way, I gotta go this way. But you'll get there.
[1:12:40] Speaker 1: Yes, yeh wow, that's so good. And her last question
[1:12:44] Speaker 1: is how do I get myself to jump?
[1:12:46] Speaker 4: How do I get myself to jump? Yeah?
[1:12:49] Speaker 3: By undoing all of those voices that caused you to
[1:12:52] Speaker 3: have those fe yes.
[1:12:53] Speaker 2: That's good.
[1:12:54] Speaker 1: Wow, Well y'all heard it from the man himself, like,
[1:12:58] Speaker 1: I ain't got nothing else.
[1:12:59] Speaker 2: To add to that.
[1:13:00] Speaker 4: That was good.
[1:13:00] Speaker 2: He broke that all the way down. Wow. Thank that
[1:13:03] Speaker 2: blessed me, my goodness. I only want to look at
[1:13:06] Speaker 2: the door because I know she brought a crying at her.
[1:13:12] Speaker 2: So the next thing we do is what I'm going for.
[1:13:14] Speaker 4: I like that. Who bought you out? Go ahead, Darling?
[1:13:19] Speaker 2: This came from the door chain the store and.
[1:13:25] Speaker 4: Darling was somewhere where Darling was so long.
[1:13:27] Speaker 1: Remember I had a rough night at sea and I
[1:13:29] Speaker 1: was I couldn't get out to shop and my different.
[1:13:33] Speaker 4: Tyler, Harry, that was a rough night.
[1:13:34] Speaker 2: I got it.
[1:13:35] Speaker 4: Yeah, send it to a making shire make sure feel better.
[1:13:37] Speaker 2: I did immediately.
[1:13:39] Speaker 4: I was like, oh, I think I can get up
[1:13:41] Speaker 4: now in a black car to make a girl get
[1:13:46] Speaker 4: out of bed. Like everything. That's so good.
[1:13:56] Speaker 1: So we also do what it's called what I'm going through,
[1:13:58] Speaker 1: what I'm growing through, and in this season in my life,
[1:14:02] Speaker 1: even based on things we've talked about, I am going through,
[1:14:05] Speaker 1: especially right now we're on a strike, just stretching my faith,
[1:14:11] Speaker 1: learning new things that I want to do, and not
[1:14:13] Speaker 1: putting all my eggs in one basket and just having
[1:14:16] Speaker 1: faith that God.
[1:14:17] Speaker 2: Is going to move.
[1:14:18] Speaker 4: Is that going through? Growing through?
[1:14:20] Speaker 1: This is what I'm going through? Yeah, right now, but
[1:14:22] Speaker 1: then I'm growing Yeah, I'm growing through.
[1:14:27] Speaker 2: Right now. I'm really growing through.
[1:14:30] Speaker 1: And I feel like this is always growing through, not
[1:14:32] Speaker 1: like having control of everything and a lot of things
[1:14:35] Speaker 1: to just be So that'd be what I'm just letting go.
[1:14:38] Speaker 2: Yeah, what about you? Are you going through?
[1:14:40] Speaker 3: What I'm What I go through is just battling compassion, Padga.
[1:14:44] Speaker 4: We talked as we talked about before.
[1:14:46] Speaker 3: And understanding that that everybody's not going to get it, yeah,
[1:14:51] Speaker 3: and being okay with that.
[1:14:52] Speaker 4: I still have to remind myself of that.
[1:14:54] Speaker 3: That's what I'm growing through, or I would say going through.
[1:15:01] Speaker 4: I'm actually pretty good. I'm really really good right now.
[1:15:06] Speaker 3: I've lived these fifty three years and learned a lot
[1:15:09] Speaker 3: of things, and all I want to do at this
[1:15:13] Speaker 3: point is just take this wisdom, these things that I've learned,
[1:15:19] Speaker 3: and share them with anybody who wants to receive them.
[1:15:22] Speaker 4: Take them.
[1:15:23] Speaker 3: But I also don't want to. Oh my god, the
[1:15:26] Speaker 3: older you get. I see some old people who just
[1:15:28] Speaker 3: that they are just impatient. The older you get is like, listen,
[1:15:32] Speaker 3: I have one friend I've been trying to help for years.
[1:15:34] Speaker 3: I was like, we've been over this. I've told you
[1:15:36] Speaker 3: these things ten different times, because I never say you
[1:15:38] Speaker 3: should do this. And when I'm giving advice, most times
[1:15:42] Speaker 3: I let people talk so they can hear themselves work
[1:15:44] Speaker 3: out the issues. But other times I'll say, well, if
[1:15:47] Speaker 3: I were in your shoes, if I were here is
[1:15:51] Speaker 3: my thinking on that. But after sharing and sharing and
[1:15:55] Speaker 3: sharing sharing, and you still don't start making progress in
[1:15:58] Speaker 3: that direction, Like you're wasting my time because there's somebody
[1:16:01] Speaker 3: else who could be using that.
[1:16:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, take those nuggets you're giving an apply it. That's
[1:16:07] Speaker 2: so true.
[1:16:07] Speaker 3: And anybody who can get to me what I mean
[1:16:10] Speaker 3: by that, it's like anybody who can get in my presence,
[1:16:13] Speaker 3: Like I'm I say this in the best way.
[1:16:16] Speaker 2: No, I know exactly what you mean.
[1:16:17] Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm Tyler Perry, you know, and I'm a loner
[1:16:20] Speaker 3: by nature. I like to be alone, and so when
[1:16:22] Speaker 3: people make their way into my life, I go, oh,
[1:16:25] Speaker 3: you are clearly somebody God has sent for me to
[1:16:29] Speaker 3: pay attention to because you broke through all of that stuff.
[1:16:33] Speaker 3: And you're this close, like, Okay, what am I supposed
[1:16:36] Speaker 3: to teach your guy? Can't be selfish, can't be about you,
[1:16:41] Speaker 3: no matter how tired, exhausted. Here's a moment. And because
[1:16:45] Speaker 3: that moment may be something that saves or changes that
[1:16:48] Speaker 3: person's life.
[1:16:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a witness.
[1:16:50] Speaker 1: I'm a testimony, a living proof example.
[1:16:53] Speaker 2: Okay.

[1:17:07] Speaker 1: opening your mind to new things can get you further.
[1:17:11] Speaker 3: I think we will say the same thing. I say,
[1:17:13] Speaker 3: keep it growing. There we go, keep it growing, just
[1:17:15] Speaker 3: keep it growing.
[1:17:16] Speaker 2: Yes, here we go again.
