[0:00] Speaker 1: Hey, sweeties, it's christopherne Hazelin and you're about to hear
[0:03] Speaker 1: a special reair of one of the most powerful episodes
[0:06] Speaker 1: we've had on Keep It Positive. Sweetie, the one and
[0:09] Speaker 1: only Tyler Perry sat with me and shared his journey
[0:12] Speaker 1: with a level of honesty and intention that shook so
[0:15] Speaker 1: many of us, from his early struggles to building an
[0:18] Speaker 1: empire with faith and vision, his story and his words
[0:22] Speaker 1: lit a fire under this community. I've heard so many
[0:25] Speaker 1: of you say that this episode gave you clarity, courage,
[0:29] Speaker 1: and confirmation to keep going. Whether it's your first listen
[0:33] Speaker 1: or your third, Tyler's story is the kind that HiT's different.
[0:37] Speaker 2: Every single time. Hello, and welcome to this episode of
[1:04] Speaker 2: Keep It Positive. Sweetie. Guys, I am so excited about
[1:08] Speaker 2: this episode.
[1:09] Speaker 1: I have none other than my boss, the biggest boss,
[1:14] Speaker 1: multi hyphan. You are an author, You are a writer,
[1:17] Speaker 1: a director, a philanthropist, a father, everything.
[1:22] Speaker 2: Tyler Perry, My god, hey, like, I literally feel like
[1:28] Speaker 2: this is my first time doing this. I was so nervous.
[1:30] Speaker 3: I could like, that's so crazy because we talked all
[1:33] Speaker 3: the time all the yes.
[1:35] Speaker 2: I just wanted to make you proud to do this right.
[1:36] Speaker 3: I'm already proud. I'm already proud of the other episodes.
[1:39] Speaker 3: I'm proud at the title. You got to tell me
[1:40] Speaker 3: how that came about.
[1:41] Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, it came about because I had a young
[1:46] Speaker 1: lady actually had posted a young woman's work who helped
[1:49] Speaker 1: me organize my closet.
[1:50] Speaker 2: And this woman got on.
[1:51] Speaker 1: She was like, all this bragging and boasting, you need
[1:55] Speaker 1: to go buy some land or a house.
[1:57] Speaker 2: I said, I had time. I'm like, I nor block,
[2:02] Speaker 2: we got time today.
[2:03] Speaker 1: My little fingers got the turtin and I was like,
[2:05] Speaker 1: I said, what you should look is I'm supporting another
[2:08] Speaker 1: woman's business and not looking at it from a negative standpoint.
[2:12] Speaker 2: I just put hashtag keep it positive, sweetie. Oh okay,
[2:15] Speaker 2: and it grew legs.
[2:16] Speaker 1: My fans were like it just like literally went crazy. DeNora,
[2:19] Speaker 1: we were trying to come with a title for the podcast,
[2:21] Speaker 1: and she's like, a time.
[2:22] Speaker 2: I think of you, I think of abundance.
[2:24] Speaker 1: And in that moment, I was like, in the back
[2:26] Speaker 1: of my hand, I said, what if it's not always
[2:27] Speaker 1: like this?
[2:29] Speaker 2: Yeah, abundant? Like what if my life is? It was crazy? Lad,
[2:32] Speaker 2: just got to thinking about.
[2:33] Speaker 3: It, and what if your life wasn't.
[2:36] Speaker 1: Always isn't always like this wasn't always because abundance. She's like,
[2:39] Speaker 1: every time I think of you, I think of abundance.
[2:41] Speaker 1: And a part of me was like, but what if.
[2:43] Speaker 2: It's not always like this?
[2:46] Speaker 3: And you know where that came from.
[2:48] Speaker 2: We can get into that, We can definitely get into that.
[2:51] Speaker 3: That is clearly just that unfeathered fear from childhood or
[2:57] Speaker 3: something that somebody said to you, or something that somebody
[3:00] Speaker 3: planet in you that immediately make you think this isn't
[3:03] Speaker 3: going to last always yes, And that is a horrible, horrible,
[3:06] Speaker 3: sinking feeling, and it's also a lie, but it can
[3:10] Speaker 3: serve you well because it can motivate you to keep
[3:13] Speaker 3: going and work even harder. So that's what I used
[3:16] Speaker 3: it for. I used to hear it. I don't hear
[3:18] Speaker 3: no more. I don't hear I think I'm all.
[3:21] Speaker 2: Right now, you are all right? You all right?
[3:24] Speaker 1: So we were brainstorming and I was like, you know,
[3:26] Speaker 1: I want to do a little segment on the show
[3:28] Speaker 1: called keep a Positive Speedy and they're like, that's the
[3:30] Speaker 1: name of the show of the show, and that's how
[3:32] Speaker 1: it came up with it.
[3:33] Speaker 3: That's great. I don't like addressing haters. But that's good.
[3:36] Speaker 3: I'm plaid. Something great came out because people, you know,
[3:39] Speaker 3: and social media in this world, they're sitting around nothing
[3:43] Speaker 3: to do, and and and what what you have to
[3:45] Speaker 3: understand about people who post negative things like that? The
[3:49] Speaker 3: algorithms in social media, if you click on something negative,
[3:53] Speaker 3: you're only going to get fed negativity. So the negativity
[3:57] Speaker 3: is showing up in their lives with in other things.
[4:00] Speaker 3: And if you keep letting that stuff in everything negative, everything, negative, everything, gossip, everything,
[4:05] Speaker 3: is that your life is going to become that. So
[4:09] Speaker 3: I'm very much about keeping a positive sweetie, and staying
[4:12] Speaker 3: and staying and staying clear of all of that foolishness.
[4:16] Speaker 2: Yeah, you do a really good job of that.
[4:18] Speaker 3: I try to. I try to. I don't. I don't
[4:20] Speaker 3: let it in. I'll stop if somebody is talking about
[4:22] Speaker 3: somebody in front of me, a god, we don't do
[4:24] Speaker 3: that here.
[4:25] Speaker 2: You cut it off quick.
[4:26] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love that you. Yeah.
[4:28] Speaker 1: When I know they're talking about me, you're not gonna
[4:30] Speaker 1: let them talk about me.
[4:31] Speaker 2: No, no, no, I'll fight somebody over you now, no.
[4:34] Speaker 3: No, no, somebody tell me somebody's in, you will if
[4:38] Speaker 3: somebody's in, and if you're telling me something because there's
[4:42] Speaker 3: a situation that we need to help. That's different, but
[4:45] Speaker 3: not just to be No, if you ain't got no
[4:47] Speaker 3: solutions to what people are going through, no offering trying
[4:50] Speaker 3: to help, don't don't bring that to me.
[4:52] Speaker 2: No, No, that's real. I love it. I love that.
[4:54] Speaker 2: I want to do a little story time. We're gonna
[4:56] Speaker 2: go back.
[4:57] Speaker 1: Yes, when we when it first started, when I first
[4:59] Speaker 1: started working at Tyler Perry Studios as a PA, the
[5:03] Speaker 1: first thing they told me do not look at him
[5:05] Speaker 1: in the eyes. Don't speak to him when you see him,
[5:08] Speaker 1: don't do I was like, okay.
[5:10] Speaker 3: And don't you know, I don't even know what year
[5:11] Speaker 3: was because I.
[5:12] Speaker 1: Was twenty twelve going into thirteen when we started happen
[5:15] Speaker 1: to have not.
[5:15] Speaker 3: Who was starting all this shit? Don't keep absolutely who
[5:20] Speaker 3: was starting all this shit? Because I hear rumors too,
[5:22] Speaker 3: but that oh, oh, don't look, don't talk to don't
[5:25] Speaker 3: do I'm like, what do y'all? Where does this come from?
[5:27] Speaker 2: I don't know?
[5:27] Speaker 3: Somebody told you that?
[5:28] Speaker 1: Yes, that was like a part of like my getting
[5:31] Speaker 1: the ropes, learning the ropes, Like, so if you ever
[5:33] Speaker 1: see him, like, don't get on the elevator, and it
[5:35] Speaker 1: reminded me of Capitol Hill when I worked on the Hills,
[5:37] Speaker 1: like if you see a Senate on the elevator, do
[5:39] Speaker 1: not go on.
[5:39] Speaker 2: If they're on the train going to the Capital.
[5:41] Speaker 3: Wait.
[5:42] Speaker 1: And I had an Obama incident where I was running
[5:44] Speaker 1: trying to get some papers to the floor of the
[5:46] Speaker 1: Senate and he was on the train and I was
[5:48] Speaker 1: like trying to get on there real quick, and I
[5:50] Speaker 1: saw him and I ran back.
[5:51] Speaker 2: He said come on. I was like you sure. He's like, yeah,
[5:53] Speaker 2: come on. I was like, thank you. Out of breath.
[5:56] Speaker 2: I was like, Lord.
[5:56] Speaker 1: But it reminded me of that where there's certain rules.
[5:59] Speaker 1: I was like, maybe that's just a thing. So one
[6:00] Speaker 1: morning we were walking everybody points out, Okay, that's where
[6:03] Speaker 1: his office is, this is where catering is.
[6:05] Speaker 2: I'm like okay.
[6:06] Speaker 1: And maybe a few weeks in we were walking past
[6:08] Speaker 1: each other on the side while you were coming and
[6:10] Speaker 1: going to set and I was going to get some coffee,
[6:12] Speaker 1: probably for someone at that point in time, and I
[6:15] Speaker 1: just said, just speak. That's how you were raised. You
[6:18] Speaker 1: don't walk past and acknowledge people when.
[6:20] Speaker 2: You see him. So I just said good morning, and you.
[6:22] Speaker 1: Smoke back, and I was like, it was like a movie.
[6:24] Speaker 1: Like if somebody had like a camera, it would have been
[6:27] Speaker 1: so funny to see my reaction. Like he smoke back,
[6:29] Speaker 1: and I was like, it was complete opposite of what
[6:31] Speaker 1: everybody said.
[6:33] Speaker 3: I know it, And that's why I wanted to, like
[6:34] Speaker 3: in the beginning, That's why I forced people to say
[6:37] Speaker 3: hi now because I'm walking, I'm like, hey, how you
[6:39] Speaker 3: doing all right? Because because I'm if somebody's still telling
[6:43] Speaker 3: you all that that's not so because it does not
[6:44] Speaker 3: check in. I want to know how people are doing it.
[6:46] Speaker 3: I was. I was stopping the hallway and talk and
[6:48] Speaker 3: see you know, how's your mom? How things are you? Will?
[6:50] Speaker 1: Yeah, complete opposite of what I was told, And I
[6:53] Speaker 1: just I love it.
[6:54] Speaker 2: It was a complete opposite.
[6:56] Speaker 3: I'm just thinking Capitol Hill to hear, Okay, go ahead,
[7:01] Speaker 3: It's not lost on me. Go ahead.
[7:04] Speaker 1: And then I worked my way up and a lot
[7:06] Speaker 1: of people are always like, how did you and Tala
[7:08] Speaker 1: become so close?
[7:09] Speaker 2: How did you even start working for him? How that
[7:11] Speaker 2: even happen?
[7:12] Speaker 1: And do you remember when we were doing Soul Cycle
[7:14] Speaker 1: at Greenbrier, Yes, and I came up to you and
[7:17] Speaker 1: said we need more money for the costumers. Yes, And
[7:20] Speaker 1: I was so scared because we hadn't really it was
[7:23] Speaker 1: always just good morning, sir, keep it moving, and something
[7:26] Speaker 1: was like just tell him because he has no idea,
[7:29] Speaker 1: and you I'm talking about within hours, Accounting was up
[7:32] Speaker 1: in that department figuring out how we can get more money,
[7:34] Speaker 1: to get more people, how to help us because the
[7:36] Speaker 1: way we shoot, we needed some good, good help.
[7:39] Speaker 2: And you were like literally, you were like, well make
[7:41] Speaker 2: it happen.
[7:42] Speaker 3: Because these are the thing that people forget. I can't
[7:46] Speaker 3: see everything, I can't be everywhere, so it takes somebody
[7:50] Speaker 3: bold enough to say, hey, you working, we're all working
[7:54] Speaker 3: by side, we're working really really fast. We need the
[7:56] Speaker 3: help yea. And not everybody would do that, and there'll
[7:59] Speaker 3: be people in departments who are suffering, who are shorthanded
[8:02] Speaker 3: because accounting saying nord, this other person saying no, nobody's
[8:05] Speaker 3: told me. Yep.
[8:06] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so I was.
[8:08] Speaker 3: I was. I was glad you said it.
[8:09] Speaker 1: Yeah, you made me feel very comfortable. I was like okay,
[8:11] Speaker 1: and I don't sometimes like Chris, why you didn't say
[8:13] Speaker 1: nothing like yeah, I just sat back. But that was
[8:17] Speaker 1: the thing where I was like, I need to talk
[8:18] Speaker 1: to him, but I was so scared. And that was
[8:20] Speaker 1: just another instance where you literally was like so.
[8:22] Speaker 2: Cool, Like if people look at you because you're six six,
[8:24] Speaker 2: you're like this giant is like oh gosh, Like how
[8:26] Speaker 2: do I even approach this man like you approach everybody.
[8:31] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[8:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, but there was just another testament to like how
[8:34] Speaker 1: you just make things happen, and you're like very.
[8:36] Speaker 3: When people make me aware of it. Yeah, because this
[8:38] Speaker 3: is really important to me. Working that hard. That's why
[8:40] Speaker 3: so many people love working at the studio because it's
[8:43] Speaker 3: a we move we do, but we are still together.
[8:47] Speaker 3: I'm right there with them, side by side in the trenches.
[8:50] Speaker 3: So it makes it all just we see everybody pushing
[8:53] Speaker 3: in the same direction. Yeah, that's why we've been able
[8:55] Speaker 3: to do what we do.
[8:56] Speaker 1: Absolutely, and it starts with you because I remember, even
[8:58] Speaker 1: as a PA, just coming on a set sometimes and
[9:01] Speaker 1: we're all exhausted, everyone's working these hours, and you're right
[9:04] Speaker 1: there with us from sun up to sundown, and it's.
[9:07] Speaker 2: Like this man, ain't got to do this at all.
[9:09] Speaker 2: You can literally be on your island or in one
[9:11] Speaker 2: of your properties somewhere.
[9:13] Speaker 3: Nope, I don't have to be here literally, but I
[9:16] Speaker 3: love it.
[9:16] Speaker 1: It's inspiring though, because it made me go harder. And
[9:19] Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, if I see this man who's
[9:21] Speaker 1: already made, it doesn't have to do this worth is hard.
[9:24] Speaker 2: I really gotta go hard. And it just inspired me.
[9:27] Speaker 3: And you did I did started working for me and
[9:31] Speaker 3: Chrystal running behind me with my shoes going on GMA.
[9:35] Speaker 3: We hear some of these schedules, sees if you we
[9:38] Speaker 3: should show them some of the schedules have to do.
[9:40] Speaker 3: It was. It was insane when I'm promoting a movie
[9:43] Speaker 3: or something and there you are. We're up up, going
[9:45] Speaker 3: to bed at three, up up at five point thirty
[9:48] Speaker 3: getting things ready.
[9:49] Speaker 2: And you got big feet too, so the shoes was heavy.
[9:52] Speaker 3: But but you know the thing, the thing about it, though,
[9:54] Speaker 3: that really moved me, is just how much you honored
[9:59] Speaker 3: the job and what you were supposed to do. That
[10:02] Speaker 3: to me spoke volumes, because anybody who comes in and
[10:04] Speaker 3: just you know that their passion is what they're doing.
[10:08] Speaker 3: I didn't even know you had another dream.
[10:09] Speaker 2: No you didn't.
[10:11] Speaker 3: I had no idea, you had no dream. Tell them
[10:13] Speaker 3: about the audition.
[10:14] Speaker 1: I had auditioned for a role on If Loving You
[10:18] Speaker 1: is wrong, and then also for Erica on having have nots.
[10:21] Speaker 1: Actually it was Darcy on if Loving You is wrong?
[10:24] Speaker 1: And Erica, who played she was one of the young
[10:28] Speaker 1: ladies on having have nots.
[10:29] Speaker 2: Auditioned for those, didn't get any of them.
[10:32] Speaker 3: You are working with me every day holding my clothes,
[10:36] Speaker 3: went through the proper channels to audition and didn't get
[10:39] Speaker 3: the role.
[10:40] Speaker 1: And when you asked me to stoll you, because that
[10:42] Speaker 1: was when I was just like working in costumes Tyler.
[10:44] Speaker 2: I would literally we would be ingerenbriar. My agent would
[10:47] Speaker 2: send me an audition.
[10:48] Speaker 1: I would run upstairs, find something in the back back
[10:51] Speaker 1: when we used to that big warehouse behind the costume
[10:54] Speaker 1: department upstairs. I would find something that fit that character,
[10:57] Speaker 1: change into it, run downstairs, tape it, run and give lunch,
[11:00] Speaker 1: Run upstairs, change back, go back to work. Literally try
[11:04] Speaker 1: like grinding, trying to figure it out, even auditioning for
[11:07] Speaker 1: stuff for you. And once you asked me to be
[11:10] Speaker 1: your stylist, I was like this, man, don't think I
[11:12] Speaker 1: can act.
[11:14] Speaker 3: And I had no idea.
[11:14] Speaker 2: You had no idea out there was wasting a way
[11:17] Speaker 2: of saying you can't do this. But I got something.
[11:20] Speaker 3: But come hold my shoes.
[11:22] Speaker 2: Let me tell you the world.
[11:24] Speaker 3: No, no, no, but I didn't. I had no idea
[11:28] Speaker 3: because nobody ever told me. And I don't know why
[11:31] Speaker 3: nobody told me that you are auditioning. That's crazy until
[11:35] Speaker 3: Sisters when you again, because she speak to anybody watching
[11:39] Speaker 3: about having the boldness to speak up, like the boldness
[11:42] Speaker 3: that cause started us talking what you saying we needed help.
[11:45] Speaker 3: The boldness of you actually getting the role of a
[11:48] Speaker 3: team that started with you saying I really would like
[11:51] Speaker 3: to try to do this. Yeah. I'm like, oh, okay,
[11:55] Speaker 3: first time I'm hearried and I'm thinking, and I remember
[11:58] Speaker 3: what I told you.
[11:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I'm not gonna give you anything. It's gonna
[12:01] Speaker 1: be small. And what you do with it is yep.
[12:03] Speaker 3: If I give to you, better kill it.
[12:05] Speaker 2: You better kill it. And I was like, I will
[12:07] Speaker 2: not let you down.
[12:08] Speaker 3: And the first day I remember you shooting in a
[12:11] Speaker 3: blue dress on Sisters, and I remember all of it
[12:13] Speaker 3: was it blue and black, But all I remember is
[12:15] Speaker 3: all of the crew coming wrobe just to support you.
[12:20] Speaker 2: Yes, it was so beautiful.
[12:21] Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's that tells the world the kind of
[12:23] Speaker 3: person you are. All your think think coming to your
[12:26] Speaker 3: damn co worker's gonna go to support you or something.
[12:28] Speaker 3: All your coworkers came down and when you finished that scene,
[12:30] Speaker 3: they were all applauded, yelling.
[12:32] Speaker 2: We all jumped on. It was I haven't actually had
[12:34] Speaker 2: footage that still on my phone.
[12:35] Speaker 3: Oh you should put that in there ready, Crystal.
[12:38] Speaker 2: This is my costume designer who wants to be an.
[12:41] Speaker 1: Actress and she just got cast it for her first
[12:44] Speaker 1: row at Tyler Perry Studios where dreams come true.
[12:50] Speaker 3: Action.
[12:54] Speaker 2: Smarts like to see you and.
[12:57] Speaker 1: You said to bring the things.
[13:22] Speaker 3: All right, all right, But what's beautiful about it is
[13:26] Speaker 3: I sat in the corner going hm hm oh no, no, no,
[13:30] Speaker 3: that's something else. That's not just talent. That's not just acting,
[13:34] Speaker 3: that's not that's something else. That's something that is anointed,
[13:37] Speaker 3: that is special, that is called for that particular purpose.
[13:41] Speaker 3: And I'm always looking for that. So when I saw it,
[13:43] Speaker 3: I was like, Okay, I see same way with Cassie
[13:46] Speaker 3: in the van. We're on tour and I'm in the
[13:49] Speaker 3: Medea castule. Maybe go on stage and uh. I looked
[13:53] Speaker 3: at them sitting over the corner, I said, I'm gonna
[13:56] Speaker 3: do a sitcom with you two Wow, we're gonna do
[13:58] Speaker 3: House of Paint. I gotta go hell Her Walk. Yeah,
[14:01] Speaker 3: and we did.
[14:04] Speaker 2: All these years later, it's still going, yeah, oh my
[14:06] Speaker 2: show does that.
[14:08] Speaker 3: I totally one hundred percent believe it will. And whatever
[14:12] Speaker 3: it is, if it doesn't, you're going to be in abundance.
[14:15] Speaker 3: Won't he do it?
[14:16] Speaker 2: Will?
[14:19] Speaker 1: I loved that, And even when I called you that
[14:21] Speaker 1: day I had, I was still styling you to ask
[14:24] Speaker 1: you about just to let you know this is what
[14:26] Speaker 1: I wanted to do, just to speak to who you
[14:29] Speaker 1: are as a friend. You were backstage getting ready to
[14:32] Speaker 1: go on to do your farewell tour.
[14:33] Speaker 2: I thought you had the day off because it was.
[14:35] Speaker 1: So many days that the calendar was really small, so
[14:37] Speaker 1: I was like, okay, he off to day. So I
[14:39] Speaker 1: called you and thinking you were off, and you weren't.
[14:41] Speaker 1: You literally adswer the phone and I was like, Hey,
[14:43] Speaker 1: what are you doing And you're like, I'll just sitting
[14:45] Speaker 1: backstage waiting to go. And I was like, oh, well,
[14:46] Speaker 1: I'll call you back and you're like, no, what's up?
[14:48] Speaker 1: And I was like to like, you don't know this,
[14:50] Speaker 1: but I'm reading the scripts and it's literally the stories
[14:53] Speaker 1: are just jumping off the pages, and I was like,
[14:56] Speaker 1: I really want to give this a shot, and you
[14:57] Speaker 1: were like, I love this idea.
[14:59] Speaker 2: Yeah, let me call you.
[14:59] Speaker 3: That done exactly because I got to walk on stage. Yeah.
[15:04] Speaker 1: But the fact that you took the call, you know
[15:06] Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I mean, that's just type of friend
[15:08] Speaker 1: you are. Because some people like I caught them back,
[15:10] Speaker 1: you know. But as busy as you are, as busy
[15:12] Speaker 1: as you are even when you're working, you still make
[15:14] Speaker 1: time for your people.
[15:15] Speaker 2: Of course, I just want people to know that that's
[15:17] Speaker 2: who you are, okay.
[15:18] Speaker 1: Because that's like that a lot of people think that
[15:20] Speaker 1: you just as even they don't know you on a
[15:22] Speaker 1: personal level. They just see this huge, giant man who
[15:25] Speaker 1: just does so many great things and it's so talented.
[15:28] Speaker 1: But like on a real personal note, you are really
[15:30] Speaker 1: that you're available to your people, and I.
[15:33] Speaker 2: Love you for that.
[15:33] Speaker 3: I appreciate it. I love you too, Chris. Thank you
[15:36] Speaker 3: as peoples. Because people always look at where you are.
[15:38] Speaker 3: They look at the top, they're like, oh, wow, look
[15:40] Speaker 3: up there, look up there. They don't look at all
[15:42] Speaker 3: the steps that it took to get there. How the bottom.
[15:45] Speaker 3: All they say is, wow, you're all the way up there,
[15:47] Speaker 3: no look at all of that. That's the journey.
[15:49] Speaker 2: It is a journey. Yeah, yeah, Wow.
[15:53] Speaker 1: Was there any time in your life like as you
[15:56] Speaker 1: continue to climb that you're like whoa like I know
[16:00] Speaker 1: even where you are now a billionaire like established, new studio,
[16:04] Speaker 1: still expanding.
[16:05] Speaker 2: Have you have the biggest studio right now?
[16:07] Speaker 1: Bigger than I feel like it's in the United States period?
[16:10] Speaker 2: You have yours mask?
[16:12] Speaker 3: Yeah?
[16:12] Speaker 2: Mask? Yeah. So is there any time as.
[16:15] Speaker 3: You're maybe pue maybe bigger but go ahead you.
[16:18] Speaker 1: Is there any time where you hit moments where you're
[16:20] Speaker 1: like ooh, like God cannot go higher because you have
[16:24] Speaker 1: a book hire as waiting.
[16:25] Speaker 2: But do you ever even doubt yourself?
[16:27] Speaker 3: Like no, at fifty three, I've had enough experiences to
[16:32] Speaker 3: know that that I have to surrender. When I did
[16:39] Speaker 3: my uh, when I bought my first studio, I thought, okay,
[16:44] Speaker 3: this is it. It's great. I'm not building a studio.
[16:46] Speaker 3: I got it's paid for it. You know. Outgrew it. Yeah,
[16:50] Speaker 3: next studio, same thing, yep, outgrew it in no time.
[16:55] Speaker 3: That Greenbrier I thought it'd be there forever. Outgrew that thing.
[16:58] Speaker 3: We were on top of each other in that building
[17:00] Speaker 3: and but but what I learned is that every time
[17:02] Speaker 3: I was supposed to move to the next level, and
[17:04] Speaker 3: I didn't because I was comfortable, because I didn't want
[17:07] Speaker 3: to pay more, I didn't want to grow. I thought
[17:10] Speaker 3: I was where I wanted to be. Everything in my
[17:13] Speaker 3: life got uncomfortable until I moved. So I completely all right.
[17:19] Speaker 2: Over there, everybody all right?
[17:21] Speaker 3: So I completely I completely learned the hard way. Like
[17:27] Speaker 3: just case in point Crock Street Market right now, which
[17:30] Speaker 3: was my first big, bigger studio on Crock Street. I was,
[17:36] Speaker 3: I was hired. I'd hired these bootleg carpenters to come
[17:40] Speaker 3: in and fix it up and all this other stuff,
[17:42] Speaker 3: and I was, I was, I'm like, good, I got
[17:45] Speaker 3: this building, I paid for it. This is where I'm
[17:48] Speaker 3: make my studio. That thing wasn't even as big as
[17:50] Speaker 3: the stage one is, right right, So so I'm there
[17:54] Speaker 3: trying to force it and ended up on the news
[17:57] Speaker 3: Monica Kaufman Richard Belcher talking about telling through dudes. Tyler
[18:01] Speaker 3: Perry's building a whole studio with our permits, I'll tell you.
[18:06] Speaker 3: So I was just like, I was so devastated because
[18:08] Speaker 3: I'd hired this guy to do job then, but the
[18:10] Speaker 3: message came to me very clear. You're too big to
[18:12] Speaker 3: do it wrong. Oh too big to do it wrong.
[18:15] Speaker 3: You gotta do it right, got to do it right.
[18:17] Speaker 3: I was still still pushing for try to make it work.
[18:21] Speaker 3: The neighbors started complaining every we didn't have enough parket.
[18:24] Speaker 3: It was only parking for maybe eighty cars. And I
[18:27] Speaker 3: was mad and I didn't want to go. And so
[18:29] Speaker 3: when my Lloyd called me and told me about Green Bride,
[18:31] Speaker 3: went over there, and you know, I was like, I
[18:33] Speaker 3: don't want to build here and went laid down, couldn't sleep,
[18:37] Speaker 3: went over there late at night and I was praying
[18:39] Speaker 3: about it. Look and I looked closely at the gates,
[18:42] Speaker 3: and there was because it's all padded, locked and chained up,
[18:45] Speaker 3: and the gates had Bible scriptures on it, and the
[18:47] Speaker 3: Song's notety one of my favorite scripture was on the gate.
[18:50] Speaker 3: And I was like, okay, God, I get it. So
[18:53] Speaker 3: I bought it. Thought I would not grow it, but
[18:55] Speaker 3: I did. But but right after that, out growing it,
[19:00] Speaker 3: here comes this offer for Fort McPherson. You know, I
[19:03] Speaker 3: told I called the mayor and said I'm leaving. I'm
[19:06] Speaker 3: going to move to Douglasville. He said no, no, no, I
[19:08] Speaker 3: want you to come see Fort McPherson. When I walked
[19:10] Speaker 3: into Fort McPherson, the first thing I thought was, oh,
[19:14] Speaker 3: I'm supposed to do this.
[19:16] Speaker 1: Wow.
[19:16] Speaker 3: It wasn't. It wasn't where I had been before with
[19:19] Speaker 3: the thought of, oh gosh, let me just get paid
[19:22] Speaker 3: for this is I had to learn to be open
[19:25] Speaker 3: to where I was going and build for where I
[19:28] Speaker 3: was going, rather than living and being closed and staying
[19:31] Speaker 3: where I was right so understanding that through some hard trials,
[19:37] Speaker 3: I learned to just surrender when it shows up.
[19:39] Speaker 1: Wow, I want to touch on something that you've held
[19:42] Speaker 1: me in my personal life when it comes to going higher, when.
[19:47] Speaker 3: You've been told by men.
[19:52] Speaker 2: Yeah, because we talked about relationships, yes.
[19:56] Speaker 1: But it was in my living. It was we were shooting,
[20:01] Speaker 1: I want to say, madea maybe Halloween, the second one
[20:05] Speaker 1: one of the movies, and that's when I was still
[20:06] Speaker 1: styling you. We're in the bathroom changing media's wardrobe and
[20:10] Speaker 1: you were like, where are you living? And I said, oh,
[20:13] Speaker 1: I'm rinting a townhouse and you're like, okay, You're like
[20:16] Speaker 1: you are on it and I said no, and he goes,
[20:18] Speaker 1: you need to go buy a house. And I was like, well, sir,
[20:21] Speaker 1: the way we work. I was like, we work and
[20:22] Speaker 1: then we save our money to live when we're not working.
[20:25] Speaker 1: It's hard to save when you're just like living. You know,
[20:27] Speaker 1: I'm saying basically living paycheck to paycheck. And you were.
[20:31] Speaker 2: Like, okay, well how much is the house?
[20:33] Speaker 1: And I was like, well, the ones I'm looking at
[20:35] Speaker 1: like we'd be like two fifty three hundred thousand.
[20:38] Speaker 2: And you're like, well, how much the damn payment.
[20:40] Speaker 1: I was like like, if you put ten percent down,
[20:43] Speaker 1: you may do like fifteen thousands between twenty and fifteen thousand.
[20:46] Speaker 2: And you're like, okays, the way you waiting on, I said, well,
[20:49] Speaker 2: you like, go get your house.
[20:51] Speaker 1: And it was in that moment I was like, good lord,
[20:55] Speaker 1: what a boss.
[20:56] Speaker 2: Go get your house.
[20:57] Speaker 1: So I got that house and I came back to
[20:58] Speaker 1: it set of By then we were shooting having having
[21:01] Speaker 1: its because we moved on to the next project. You're like, christ,
[21:04] Speaker 1: she got her house. He was like, I give you
[21:06] Speaker 1: four years. You'll be in a mansion within four years.
[21:10] Speaker 1: I don't know if you remember saying that. We were
[21:12] Speaker 1: all said, you called me, and you like, it's time
[21:15] Speaker 1: to get out a little apartment he called.
[21:17] Speaker 2: House an apartment. Yeah, a four bedroom threven have that.
[21:20] Speaker 3: It's beautiful. It was beautiful. But I knew again in
[21:24] Speaker 3: my life what I learned and what I understood was
[21:27] Speaker 3: be open when it shows up. That's not arrogance, that's
[21:30] Speaker 3: not anything. There's so many people who I know I've
[21:33] Speaker 3: met in this lifetime being having been very poor and
[21:37] Speaker 3: now doing very well, who on that side of it
[21:39] Speaker 3: they never apologized for We as black people, constantly apologize
[21:44] Speaker 3: when we have something good, Like you talked about that
[21:45] Speaker 3: lady who talked about stop showing off. You should be,
[21:47] Speaker 3: you should be. See, that's somebody who don't even understand
[21:50] Speaker 3: that it's based on the experiences of what we have
[21:56] Speaker 3: done as black people in this country, the things I did.
[22:02] Speaker 3: Our success has already been bought and paid for. If
[22:06] Speaker 3: we could get our mentality around what that means, Yes,
[22:10] Speaker 3: you wouldn't walk around apologizing for it.
[22:12] Speaker 2: I know that's right, And you taught me to live unapologetically.
[22:16] Speaker 3: Yes, it's okay, yep.
[22:17] Speaker 1: And even when I was living in a scarcity mindset,
[22:20] Speaker 1: You like Chris, I know, you feel like you just
[22:22] Speaker 1: got through the door or just one foot You're like
[22:24] Speaker 1: you're in the door. You're right, You're all right, go
[22:26] Speaker 1: get what you want. I was like, well, I don't
[22:27] Speaker 1: know if I can like stop living like that because
[22:30] Speaker 1: you said that you would go buy what you could afford, like,
[22:32] Speaker 1: I know, I can handle this. And then you're in
[22:34] Speaker 1: there for two years and you're like, I should have
[22:36] Speaker 1: just got what I wanted because God continued to multiply,
[22:39] Speaker 1: multiply and be like, I could have just got what
[22:41] Speaker 1: I want.
[22:41] Speaker 3: I want. Yes, And many times in my life I've
[22:44] Speaker 3: been in a situation why did I buy this? Why
[22:46] Speaker 3: am I Why ain't about this? I didn't when that's
[22:49] Speaker 3: right there?
[22:49] Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, yeah, So you you helped me to one
[22:53] Speaker 1: dream bigger, to open my lens and be like, okay,
[22:56] Speaker 1: I can do this. And every time I go higher,
[22:59] Speaker 1: my wife just makes room.
[23:01] Speaker 2: It makes room.
[23:01] Speaker 1: My ideas get bigger the money it comes, and it's
[23:05] Speaker 1: never like a oh God, how about to take care
[23:07] Speaker 1: of it?
[23:07] Speaker 3: There you go, and then you realize, after four years ago, man,
[23:11] Speaker 3: I just breezed through that I wasn't even that wasn't
[23:14] Speaker 3: even a stretch because your mind became open to the
[23:18] Speaker 3: possibility of what it could be.
[23:20] Speaker 2: Yes, yeah it is. But that also comes with exposure.
[23:24] Speaker 1: I'm a young girl from Martin, Tennessee, population ten thousand,
[23:27] Speaker 1: people like super small, and you have one. I remember
[23:32] Speaker 1: the first time you invite me to the island and
[23:35] Speaker 1: I was sitting at the table with everybody and I
[23:36] Speaker 1: don't know if you can feel the timidness, and you
[23:39] Speaker 1: were like, if you're at this table, it's.
[23:41] Speaker 2: Because you belong.
[23:42] Speaker 1: And I remember one morning just walking around, just touching
[23:45] Speaker 1: the leaves. I'd never seen an island.
[23:47] Speaker 2: A private island, a private alum. I've been on an
[23:49] Speaker 2: island and not an island.
[23:50] Speaker 1: Like that, And I was like, this man, this is
[23:52] Speaker 1: his own island, Like just what, I don't even need
[23:55] Speaker 1: all this, Like this is possible. Then that's exposure, you
[23:58] Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Just knowing that I know somebody
[24:00] Speaker 1: who has done it, this is something I can do
[24:02] Speaker 1: as well. And the places you've taken me, we traveled
[24:05] Speaker 1: the world together, has opened my eyes to so much
[24:08] Speaker 1: where a lot of people aren't privy to sing thinking.
[24:12] Speaker 3: About a couple of things traveling the world. But let
[24:15] Speaker 3: me just say this and then I'll go to the
[24:16] Speaker 3: traveling world. Oprah. Oprah did that for me when I
[24:19] Speaker 3: first went to her house. She did that for me.
[24:21] Speaker 3: I was like, Oh, this is possible. You can actually
[24:24] Speaker 3: dream and be and I'll never forget. I'm on video
[24:27] Speaker 3: saying this. I'm probably thirty five. At the thirty six,
[24:30] Speaker 3: my first movie had just come out, and I was
[24:32] Speaker 3: just like, oh, I could have this. It took all
[24:36] Speaker 3: of the reins and blinders off, and I was just like, Okay, God,
[24:39] Speaker 3: what you got. Yeah, Well, I'm gonna do the best
[24:42] Speaker 3: I can to honor it. I'm gonna be good to people.
[24:44] Speaker 3: I'm gonna everybody comes in my life, I'm gonna make
[24:46] Speaker 3: sure that they are touched and affected in a beautiful way,
[24:50] Speaker 3: that their lives are changed, that they're really see and dream.
[24:54] Speaker 3: Everything you show me got, I'm gonna try to pass
[24:56] Speaker 3: it on to somebody else and everybody who can get it,
[24:58] Speaker 3: I'll take it right. So that's the feeling I want
[25:02] Speaker 3: the people around me to have. That's the feeling I
[25:04] Speaker 3: want the people at the studio to have, because at
[25:07] Speaker 3: this point was what else is? What else is there
[25:10] Speaker 3: to do?
[25:11] Speaker 2: Exactly exactly? That's so good.
[25:13] Speaker 3: Yeah, they're traveling the world, just like she don't like roaches.
[25:18] Speaker 3: So so we we were in really nice. So do
[25:24] Speaker 3: y'all know them beautiful places over the water A little bugo.
[25:28] Speaker 2: It was nice.
[25:30] Speaker 3: If you walk in the hotel that's very expensive and
[25:32] Speaker 3: there's roach spray in the closet, something something up.
[25:35] Speaker 2: So I didn't catch that.
[25:37] Speaker 3: I didn't read. I didn't read that road spray because
[25:40] Speaker 3: the place is beautiful, the glass bottom of look. I
[25:42] Speaker 3: was like, okay, I'm about Crystal doing in her room screams.
[25:50] Speaker 2: I do not do roaches. I was like, they're like
[25:52] Speaker 2: the people came in the room, that manager and he
[25:54] Speaker 2: was like, oh, I'm talking about it was a big roach.
[25:58] Speaker 2: He was like, oh, this is a water bug.
[26:00] Speaker 3: That's we from the south, and we get on his head.
[26:05] Speaker 3: That's a cock throat. Y'all got to get that thing.
[26:08] Speaker 2: Y'all came in there moving furniture for me. Y'all in here,
[26:12] Speaker 2: turn the arrow.
[26:13] Speaker 3: Turn the arrow, yeah, yep. Or any time I said beyond,
[26:17] Speaker 3: she was ready to go.
[26:18] Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
[26:19] Speaker 1: The first time you saw me, I was in Miami, guys,
[26:22] Speaker 1: I'm on a vacation. I always I like to travel
[26:25] Speaker 1: by myself sometimes and then my girls to come meet
[26:27] Speaker 1: me after I've had my me time. And so it
[26:30] Speaker 1: was before my girls landed and I had unpacked. I
[26:34] Speaker 1: was staying in Miami for a while. I had unpacked
[26:35] Speaker 1: my clothes and I never do that. I never unpack
[26:37] Speaker 1: and hang things up. I just live out the suitcase.
[26:40] Speaker 1: This particular trip, I had unpacked. I get a call
[26:43] Speaker 1: and he's like, hey, I need you to pack some
[26:46] Speaker 1: things for me. I've got to go to Copenhagen. And
[26:48] Speaker 1: I was like okay, and he was I said, okay,
[26:51] Speaker 1: I'll get some things done. So I had called our money.
[26:52] Speaker 1: I was like, hair money, can you face on me?
[26:54] Speaker 1: So I can you can help me this come out
[26:55] Speaker 1: in town? And then I get another call and you
[26:58] Speaker 1: were like.
[26:58] Speaker 2: Well, I need you to pack your too, because we're
[27:00] Speaker 2: going to see Beyonce. Y'all. I ain't never packed. I
[27:05] Speaker 2: ain't never got to the airport that fast.
[27:08] Speaker 3: I called you, caught you back. I called you back
[27:12] Speaker 3: because I knew you had friends, I knew you had packed.
[27:14] Speaker 3: I called you back. I say, so you think you're
[27:16] Speaker 3: gonna you're going I'm at the airport.
[27:19] Speaker 2: I'm going through back on me away.
[27:24] Speaker 1: And that was the most amazing experience. We flew on
[27:28] Speaker 1: your jet to covien Haagen. I got to meet Beyonce
[27:31] Speaker 1: for the first time, y'all, like, do we need a
[27:33] Speaker 1: land to pass?
[27:33] Speaker 2: She gonna faint?
[27:34] Speaker 1: What's gonna happen? Oh my goodness, And that was just
[27:38] Speaker 1: that was crazy. Thank you for the many experiences, but
[27:42] Speaker 1: that was that when it started.
[27:43] Speaker 3: Exposure. Exposure, that's what I that's what I completely love
[27:47] Speaker 3: and hope that more of us have, you know, And
[27:50] Speaker 3: it doesn't take you don't have to travel the world
[27:52] Speaker 3: to to You could just get out of your neighborhood,
[27:55] Speaker 3: go to other neighborhoods see other things. Like when I
[27:57] Speaker 3: was struggling and broken my when he said, man, I
[28:00] Speaker 3: would I barely had nickel or anything to eat, but
[28:05] Speaker 3: I would go to an open house and in the
[28:08] Speaker 3: nicest neighborhoods, and I would drive test drive cars, just
[28:13] Speaker 3: not for the materialness of it, but just to know
[28:15] Speaker 3: it's possible, yes, right, And because in my neighborhood there
[28:18] Speaker 3: was there was the drug boys or the preachers that
[28:22] Speaker 3: were the only ones doing well.
[28:23] Speaker 2: Wow.
[28:23] Speaker 3: So I didn't see anybody else that you know, was
[28:27] Speaker 3: in the movie business or anything. I didn't see any
[28:31] Speaker 3: of that. So coming to Atlanta really opened my mind
[28:34] Speaker 3: up to the possibility of there are other things you
[28:36] Speaker 3: can be other than those two.
[28:37] Speaker 1: Absolutely, Wow, that's good. Something else that I have learned
[28:41] Speaker 1: from you is generosity. I've always just naturally just been
[28:45] Speaker 1: a nice person, speak to everybody.
[28:48] Speaker 2: But it was first it was Andy Norman, who we.
[28:51] Speaker 3: Love works at the right hand over there here.
[28:54] Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, love him.
[28:55] Speaker 1: And he called me one day he always goes to
[28:57] Speaker 1: church on Wednesdays, and he said that I don't know
[29:00] Speaker 1: why God put you on my spirit, but he told
[29:02] Speaker 1: me to tell you your living is in your giving.
[29:05] Speaker 1: He said, I don't know what this, why what it was?
[29:09] Speaker 1: And at this time I was I wasn't even costume designing.
[29:13] Speaker 1: I was just a costumer, so that you know, that's
[29:15] Speaker 1: just like, okay, what does that mean?
[29:17] Speaker 2: You know, He's like, your living is in your giving.
[29:19] Speaker 2: So we take a break.
[29:22] Speaker 1: I get a call from Ozzie, who was the president
[29:24] Speaker 1: at the time, and he goes, hey, t I want
[29:26] Speaker 1: me to call you to see if you be interested
[29:27] Speaker 1: in costume designing the next season it shows and I
[29:31] Speaker 1: was like, oh, that's that's a big in a big job,
[29:34] Speaker 1: Like I don't know if I'm ready for this, if
[29:36] Speaker 1: I'm prepared, And I ended up praying about it, and
[29:41] Speaker 1: I ended up taking the job. And when I walked
[29:43] Speaker 1: in for my first day and he was like, I
[29:45] Speaker 1: didn't know where you were going or what was about.
[29:47] Speaker 1: He said, but you're you're going like babe, you're going higher.
[29:50] Speaker 1: And I was like, hey, this is crazy, and he's like,
[29:52] Speaker 1: don't forget what I said. And he always reminded me
[29:54] Speaker 1: and I never forget that. But just being around you
[29:59] Speaker 1: and styling you for the years I styled you and
[30:01] Speaker 1: actually getting a close up look at how you run things,
[30:05] Speaker 1: the way you give silently. People don't even know the
[30:09] Speaker 1: half of the things you do because you can be
[30:10] Speaker 1: sitting in your livo and watch a TV like I
[30:13] Speaker 1: want to health itly and figure I find her I need.
[30:16] Speaker 1: I want to help her rebuild. Whatever you said, you
[30:19] Speaker 1: always bless people. And I remember it was during COVID
[30:23] Speaker 1: and you called me and you said, hey, I just
[30:24] Speaker 1: want to shake on you. Are you good because you
[30:26] Speaker 1: weren't working. You wanted to make sure I was.
[30:28] Speaker 2: I was okay. I said, no, you're taking good care
[30:31] Speaker 2: of me.
[30:31] Speaker 1: I'm good, And in turn I turned around and called
[30:36] Speaker 1: Herman remember what he had told us the story, and
[30:38] Speaker 1: it just that's I feel like when you're around somebody,
[30:41] Speaker 1: you're a caliber. Those are the things you need to
[30:43] Speaker 1: take from them, you know, Like learning how to like
[30:46] Speaker 1: that was a valuable thing for me. Like this man
[30:48] Speaker 1: will he just gives freely and with a cheerful heart.
[30:52] Speaker 1: And that was one of the things I was like,
[30:53] Speaker 1: when I'm in this position, like cause I would already
[30:55] Speaker 1: do already do it.
[30:56] Speaker 2: Like when we come back to work, I buy people
[30:58] Speaker 2: lunch because I knew they weren't had been worked for
[31:00] Speaker 2: a while, so I would do what I could do
[31:02] Speaker 2: that I couldn't buy a car.
[31:03] Speaker 3: That's the same. That's the same thing though giving. Giving
[31:06] Speaker 3: doesn't have a value when it comes from a pure place.
[31:09] Speaker 3: It could be ten billion dollars, it could be two pennies.
[31:12] Speaker 3: It doesn't have a value when it comes from purity.
[31:15] Speaker 3: Giving is about what it does for the other person exactly.
[31:18] Speaker 2: And I learned that from you.
[31:19] Speaker 1: So I just that's another thing, Like being around you.
[31:21] Speaker 1: I've learned so many things, just even how to carry
[31:24] Speaker 1: myself because a lot of times you don't know why
[31:26] Speaker 1: guy's putting you around someone. I had no idea why
[31:29] Speaker 1: you chose me, and why guy put it on your
[31:30] Speaker 1: heart to be like her. I want her to come
[31:33] Speaker 1: and help me with this, but in that it was
[31:35] Speaker 1: literally molding me to be able to sit in the
[31:38] Speaker 1: space I'm in now and to be able to carry it.
[31:41] Speaker 2: And you know what I'm saying, That's.
[31:42] Speaker 3: Why I tell everyone who is around somebody who they
[31:46] Speaker 3: are wondering, Like I was around people like Oprah and
[31:50] Speaker 3: know TD Jake's and things, I'm like, why these people
[31:53] Speaker 3: are so amazing? How am I? What am I? What
[31:56] Speaker 3: is this about? But they were there to teach me something,
[31:59] Speaker 3: and I watched the grace of how they carried themselves.
[32:02] Speaker 3: I watched the compassion, and I watch how they treated
[32:05] Speaker 3: everybody around them. You know, all people want to do
[32:08] Speaker 3: is be seen and heard, right, So if you sometimes
[32:11] Speaker 3: that's all they need. And so when I'm helping someone,
[32:17] Speaker 3: and as you said, most of it's private because the
[32:20] Speaker 3: world don't need to know it, but there are moments
[32:23] Speaker 3: where people want to know it. And then there are
[32:25] Speaker 3: moments where I say, Okay, people should know this because
[32:28] Speaker 3: there's so much hell in the world right now, so
[32:30] Speaker 3: let's see see what how much good this can do. Yes, exactly,
[32:34] Speaker 3: But it's it's really really important to be able to
[32:38] Speaker 3: have what you have and have an open hand and
[32:41] Speaker 3: heart to help other people. Yes, I get that from
[32:43] Speaker 3: my mother. I mean I would wake up when I
[32:45] Speaker 3: was a kid and step out of the bed. I
[32:46] Speaker 3: would step on somebody on the floor, like who these people?
[32:49] Speaker 3: She's like, they needed a place to stay right, so
[32:53] Speaker 3: she would. She wouldn't give them no money, but she
[32:55] Speaker 3: would she would. You know, you couldn't get twenty dollars
[32:57] Speaker 3: out of my mother. But she would feed them, she
[32:59] Speaker 3: would clothe them. She she was just amazing.
[33:01] Speaker 2: I love that. I love that you talk about your mother.
[33:04] Speaker 2: I know this.
[33:05] Speaker 1: She's someone who was a dear, dear place in your heart.
[33:09] Speaker 1: And you talked about the dysfunction of your home growing up.
[33:12] Speaker 1: What was it with that little boy? Because you say
[33:15] Speaker 1: in your book Hire is Waiting you say that ever
[33:17] Speaker 1: since I was a little boy, I've known there was
[33:20] Speaker 1: something greater than myself, something bigger, something stronger, something higher.
[33:24] Speaker 1: I know for me as a kid living in Martin, Tennessee,
[33:27] Speaker 1: I didn't see anything that God had put in my mind.
[33:30] Speaker 1: I didn't see anything that even reflected that. I'm like,
[33:32] Speaker 1: so why do I feel like I can I only
[33:34] Speaker 1: saw it on TV?
[33:35] Speaker 2: What was it?
[33:36] Speaker 1: That little boy living in New Orleans. It was like,
[33:39] Speaker 1: it's something bigger for me than this.
[33:41] Speaker 3: That was That was the most frustrating part of my
[33:43] Speaker 3: life and career is having all of that vision inside
[33:46] Speaker 3: of me and did not sing a path, not seeing
[33:49] Speaker 3: anybody else who had done it, not seen anybody around.
[33:51] Speaker 3: I was just like, how is this even possible for
[33:55] Speaker 3: me to obtain this? But for me, my mother took
[33:58] Speaker 3: me to church all the time, so I I just
[34:03] Speaker 3: would hear my uncle preaching about you know, if you pray,
[34:05] Speaker 3: God will answer your prayers. And I just believed from
[34:08] Speaker 3: a little boy that God was answering my prayers, especially
[34:10] Speaker 3: when I got these. I thought that the television floor
[34:15] Speaker 3: mode of television. Y'all, y'all don't know what that I
[34:17] Speaker 3: do Flora on television. I thought that the people inside
[34:21] Speaker 3: on Gilligan's Island, the TV show, were inside the TV
[34:23] Speaker 3: and I wanted to go behind it and open it
[34:25] Speaker 3: up and find them. And my father would have killed
[34:28] Speaker 3: me though, so I prayed. I said, God, send me
[34:30] Speaker 3: some little people to take care of. And I'm leaving school.
[34:35] Speaker 3: I come home and there's a house, a bamboo house
[34:38] Speaker 3: on sitting on the porch lady across the street had left,
[34:40] Speaker 3: had moved away, and she asked my mother if I
[34:43] Speaker 3: could have her parakeets, pp and Pierre, and they spoke.
[34:47] Speaker 3: So as a little boy, I'm like, God heard my prayer.
[34:50] Speaker 2: I heard it.
[34:51] Speaker 3: Yeah, So from then on, from then on, it was like, Okay,
[34:55] Speaker 3: this prayer.
[34:55] Speaker 2: Thing works, it works. Prayer.
[34:58] Speaker 3: Yeah, I got to get my coffee to get up
[35:03] Speaker 3: there right exactly right right right right right right right
[35:09] Speaker 3: right downs nice gowns or something.
[35:16] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[35:17] Speaker 1: I'd like to ask that question because a lot of
[35:18] Speaker 1: times when people see us where we are now, it's
[35:21] Speaker 1: like where did that start? So I definitely wanted to
[35:23] Speaker 1: touch on that.
[35:25] Speaker 3: You can't just say this about God. I know the
[35:28] Speaker 3: world is changing and people are getting away from so
[35:30] Speaker 3: many things, and it makes sense because because of what
[35:34] Speaker 3: church has become. But my whole hope is that if
[35:37] Speaker 3: people have a relationship with God and believing that, they
[35:41] Speaker 3: never ever equate that to something that man is, because
[35:45] Speaker 3: they will always let you down, preacher, pastor priests will
[35:49] Speaker 3: always let you down. They are not God. They're human.
[35:51] Speaker 3: They're allowed to be flawed, they're allowed to make mistakes business.
[35:55] Speaker 3: So I give them the grace of being human. Yes,
[35:59] Speaker 3: but when I need grace, I go to God, not
[36:02] Speaker 3: for them.
[36:02] Speaker 2: Yes. Absolutely.
[36:04] Speaker 1: I literally just yesterday had this conversation with my brother Marquis,
[36:08] Speaker 1: and he was like, you know, I just church heard.
[36:10] Speaker 1: He was like, I just don't feel he said, I
[36:13] Speaker 1: just don't want to go through this again. And I
[36:15] Speaker 1: was like, I said, I literally told him, I said, Marquis,
[36:17] Speaker 1: I was like, the pastor is not God. I was like,
[36:19] Speaker 1: he's human just like we are. I said, you, we're
[36:22] Speaker 1: going to church to get close to God. If that
[36:24] Speaker 1: person is delivering the message the way you need it,
[36:26] Speaker 1: we have to give them grace in their personal life,
[36:28] Speaker 1: right Like, we can't judge.
[36:29] Speaker 3: That or that ain't ain't your business. If God sends
[36:34] Speaker 3: a message and you know when that message is yours
[36:37] Speaker 3: coming through that person, oh you know, God spoke to
[36:39] Speaker 3: you through that person, it's easy to start to see
[36:42] Speaker 3: the person as God and miss the spirit that came through. Yes, listen,
[36:46] Speaker 3: I've gotten messages from winos on the street that was like,
[36:49] Speaker 3: oh that was God just spoke to me.
[36:50] Speaker 2: Uh huh.
[36:51] Speaker 3: So I've learned to completely be when you when you
[36:54] Speaker 3: listen and you're open and you're here, you know you know,
[36:58] Speaker 3: because and what in my life if I praise something
[37:02] Speaker 3: and like I have friends who are praying for me,
[37:05] Speaker 3: your prophet like Andy will do you. God will send
[37:07] Speaker 3: somebody to confirm the exact prayer, the exact thought, the
[37:10] Speaker 3: exact thing I'm going through almost in the exact words.
[37:14] Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, he keep talking to all in your business.
[37:23] Speaker 2: Right, so good, so good. So let's talk about something
[37:27] Speaker 2: that you and I talk about. My men, Oh lord,
[37:32] Speaker 2: I mean my man.
[37:33] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[37:33] Speaker 1: So for the longest, like you've seen me go through
[37:36] Speaker 1: different relationships and recently it was a night that we
[37:40] Speaker 1: all went to dinner after you moderated Michelle Obama's book
[37:43] Speaker 1: tour here in Atlanta, and you said, Crystal, you are
[37:47] Speaker 1: vibrating here.
[37:48] Speaker 2: Your man is here.
[37:49] Speaker 1: And I was like, Oh, you're trying to tell me
[37:52] Speaker 1: I'm a low vibrational tyler.
[37:53] Speaker 2: What you're trying to say? And I was like, oh,
[37:55] Speaker 2: I had to think about that. I was like, wow, Like,
[37:57] Speaker 2: am I well you know what I'm saying. You were like,
[38:00] Speaker 2: you're here and he's up here. You gotta you gotta
[38:02] Speaker 2: go higher, get yeah yeah, And I was like, wow,
[38:06] Speaker 2: that's crazy.
[38:07] Speaker 3: I was probably had a gummy that night. So I
[38:09] Speaker 3: was I give super spiritual when I'm on the gummies.
[38:12] Speaker 3: But that sounds good, Okay, go ahead.
[38:14] Speaker 2: It was really good.
[38:15] Speaker 3: Just five milligrams a week. That's all I could do.
[38:19] Speaker 3: You know, if I try anything else, I'd be like, no, no, y'all,
[38:21] Speaker 3: come get me going to the hospital. Five miligran Yeah,
[38:27] Speaker 3: but understanding. Yeah. And and having people meet you at
[38:30] Speaker 3: your work.
[38:31] Speaker 2: That's what I was.
[38:31] Speaker 1: Yes when you said that we were one of our
[38:34] Speaker 1: many nights at your Island Dollar in the King's Landing
[38:38] Speaker 1: room at the table you said you just hit you. You
[38:41] Speaker 1: probably was on the gummy there too. You was like,
[38:44] Speaker 1: meet me at my word and.
[38:45] Speaker 2: We were all like, wow, that's it. Yeah, that's it.
[38:49] Speaker 3: And and and anybody who can't do that, that doesn't
[38:52] Speaker 3: mean they're not worthy of you. That means that they
[38:54] Speaker 3: need to eat the attempt try learn find out enough
[38:58] Speaker 3: about you to be to figure out what that is.
[39:01] Speaker 3: And that's not money because because you listen, a lot
[39:05] Speaker 3: of women, especially black women, and I might get in
[39:07] Speaker 3: trouble for saying this, but I will. In our society
[39:13] Speaker 3: right now, black women are making a lot more money
[39:17] Speaker 3: for the most part than black men. Right there are
[39:19] Speaker 3: a lot of black men who are successful, but for
[39:20] Speaker 3: the most part, black women are making the money. So
[39:22] Speaker 3: you if you can find love, if that man works,
[39:27] Speaker 3: you know, at whatever job and is a good man,
[39:31] Speaker 3: and it is good to you and honors and honors
[39:34] Speaker 3: the house and honor's white and does what he can
[39:37] Speaker 3: because his gift may not be your gift exactly. That
[39:41] Speaker 3: is okay. That's not somebody who's beneath you. That's somebody
[39:44] Speaker 3: who came to love you at your work, right, and
[39:47] Speaker 3: as long as he's secure in himself to know that, yep,
[39:50] Speaker 3: she makes most of the money. All I can pay
[39:52] Speaker 3: is the light bill. As long as she's comfortable enough
[39:54] Speaker 3: to say, I'm gonna cover the mortgage and all the
[39:56] Speaker 3: other stuff. You've had a light build, baby, you can
[39:58] Speaker 3: take me to dinner and every now and then, it
[40:00] Speaker 3: is fine. Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, But that's so hard
[40:05] Speaker 3: for a lot of people to take in because that
[40:07] Speaker 3: means no, no, no, I need somebody to who is
[40:12] Speaker 3: I need?
[40:13] Speaker 4: They need to make five times more and I got
[40:15] Speaker 4: to have that. I got to have. Don't keep your list.
[40:19] Speaker 4: God bless you, hope it haven't. Don't keep your list.
[40:21] Speaker 4: But when you talk about just someone to love you
[40:24] Speaker 4: and support you. I know people who have who whose
[40:29] Speaker 4: men can't touch what they make. But when you see
[40:34] Speaker 4: them together, that love, that.
[40:36] Speaker 3: Support, that that I got you, babe, it's a beautiful thing.
[40:40] Speaker 2: It is, it is.
[40:41] Speaker 1: I remember I was having a conversation with you and
[40:43] Speaker 1: I was going, I can admit that I had fallen
[40:46] Speaker 1: under that, Like, Okay, I actually may have misunderstood what
[40:50] Speaker 1: meet me at my worth meant. I thought, meet me
[40:52] Speaker 1: at my work with meet me at my network network.
[40:55] Speaker 3: Right right now, not your network. May me at least
[40:58] Speaker 3: meet me at my network. Yeah. Yeah.
[41:01] Speaker 2: And I was talking to you.
[41:02] Speaker 1: I was like and Tyler, I was like, this is
[41:03] Speaker 1: this is this, and I've done this this, and You're
[41:05] Speaker 1: like wa wait wait wait wait stop. He was like,
[41:07] Speaker 1: don't make it about money. And this is when I
[41:11] Speaker 1: was like, oh my gosh. It was like like it
[41:14] Speaker 1: just went off and I was like, I see what
[41:15] Speaker 1: you're saying. You were like, Chris sits do the same thing.
[41:17] Speaker 1: I would like, be doing all these things for someone
[41:19] Speaker 1: or people around me, and I'm like they're not doing
[41:22] Speaker 1: I'm not getting anything in return, you know. And we
[41:24] Speaker 1: fall into that sometimes. And you said, but then I
[41:27] Speaker 1: thought about it. They can't do for me the way
[41:29] Speaker 1: I do. It's just like they can't. You got when
[41:32] Speaker 1: you explained like that, if he is giving you all
[41:34] Speaker 1: these other things.
[41:36] Speaker 2: Then that's something you work with. And I did.
[41:39] Speaker 1: I literally completely misconstrued what meet me at my worth
[41:43] Speaker 1: end in that moment. But worth is more than that,
[41:46] Speaker 1: you know. And that's when I was like, Wow, this
[41:47] Speaker 1: is way deeper.
[41:49] Speaker 3: You got to remove the money from the situation because
[41:51] Speaker 3: it's just gonna cloud it. And then you have your
[41:54] Speaker 3: girlfriend and this friend saying he's doing this and he
[41:56] Speaker 3: ain't got that he did. You don't understand the love
[41:59] Speaker 3: that we have for each other. And that is what
[42:02] Speaker 3: is important. And I'm telling you there are some good
[42:05] Speaker 3: men who can't meet you at your net worth. Yeah yeah.
[42:09] Speaker 3: And if you can find a man who is secure
[42:13] Speaker 3: enough within himself to stand in that space, yeah yeah.
[42:18] Speaker 3: I tell you the story. Oprah tells the story about
[42:20] Speaker 3: her and stepmen. She was they were in Hawaii and
[42:23] Speaker 3: she was walking. This is years ago. She walked in
[42:26] Speaker 3: the store. He was behind her and no, I'll tell
[42:29] Speaker 3: you this story. This is because I was there for
[42:31] Speaker 3: this one. We were coming out of the color purple
[42:35] Speaker 3: premiere in New York and it's Tina Turner, Oprah and
[42:40] Speaker 3: me and Gail. We're all kid in the car and well, listen,
[42:44] Speaker 3: that's when I first knew. That's when I first knew
[42:46] Speaker 3: something had shifted. Wow, because Oprah walks out in the
[42:50] Speaker 3: screaming Oprah, Oprah, Oprah, Tina walks out of Tina, Tina.
[42:53] Speaker 3: I go out of here, tyl or I go o.
[42:56] Speaker 3: This was very early on. So they're pushing into the
[43:00] Speaker 3: limo and I've turned back and Steedman, the security is
[43:05] Speaker 3: pushing him out of the way, not letting him in.
[43:08] Speaker 1: Wow.
[43:09] Speaker 3: I watched him tap the man on the shoulder and
[43:11] Speaker 3: say hey. He goes, oh, oh, I'm sorry, mister Graham,
[43:14] Speaker 3: and he let him in the car. But do you
[43:16] Speaker 3: know when I saw that man, who's six foot six
[43:20] Speaker 3: in that situation, I went wow, look at the grace
[43:24] Speaker 3: and how he carried it. He didn't get a car
[43:26] Speaker 3: with the attitude. He wasn't mad. Which takes me back to
[43:29] Speaker 3: the store in Hawaii when when they were in the
[43:31] Speaker 3: store and everybody swarmed around Oprah. He was watching protectively,
[43:35] Speaker 3: and after she was she was leaving the store, the
[43:39] Speaker 3: store owner, older person said to her. Listen, I watched
[43:43] Speaker 3: that man, How he Loves You. I watched that man
[43:46] Speaker 3: how his ore is all around you, making sure you're
[43:48] Speaker 3: okay and safe. So so and stepman does well in life. Yeah,
[43:53] Speaker 3: but I don't know nobody doing well is.
[43:55] Speaker 2: Open hell, you know what I mean?
[43:56] Speaker 3: Yeah, So it can't be about the money. Can't be
[43:58] Speaker 3: about the money.
[43:59] Speaker 2: That was That was a good nugget that you gave.
[44:01] Speaker 1: Me recently, And I was like, wow, because you do
[44:03] Speaker 1: get caught up into what your girls are saying and what's.
[44:06] Speaker 3: Society because that's gonna but that's that's And if you
[44:08] Speaker 3: try to make it about the money, then it's always
[44:10] Speaker 3: going to be about the money, and the money is
[44:13] Speaker 3: you have to understand that when you start to make
[44:15] Speaker 3: money and do well, that becomes a part of the
[44:17] Speaker 3: perception of who you are, right And that's okay. Yeah,
[44:20] Speaker 3: that was the thing that bothered me about it only
[44:22] Speaker 3: sees my money, only sees my money, and I'm a
[44:24] Speaker 3: good person. I had to let all that go. Was like, well,
[44:28] Speaker 3: the money is a part of your person now, so
[44:31] Speaker 3: let that be. Wow, and that's okay, Yeah.
[44:34] Speaker 1: It is now when you started making money, were talking
[44:36] Speaker 1: about money as a part of the person.
[44:38] Speaker 3: Listen, that's a whole nother podcast, the financial literacy. Yes, yes,
[44:42] Speaker 3: but go ahead, that's yeah.
[44:44] Speaker 1: Even like with like family and friends, what did you
[44:46] Speaker 1: go through when you start? Because that's the thing I
[44:51] Speaker 1: start to deal with now, you know. Just then titlement
[44:53] Speaker 1: or like gimme, gimmy, gimme and the random text messages
[44:57] Speaker 1: and you're like, I'm just waiting to ask.
[44:59] Speaker 3: I had yeah, because usually what happens is, you know,
[45:02] Speaker 3: they don't they don't talk to you forever, and then
[45:03] Speaker 3: they're like, hey, how you doing. You've been on my mind.
[45:07] Speaker 3: God told me to pray for you on my heart,
[45:08] Speaker 3: and I'm thinking, okay, ten nine eight, Can you send
[45:12] Speaker 3: me thirty thousand dollars because I need Yeah? And then
[45:15] Speaker 3: I had another family member sent it, said and I
[45:18] Speaker 3: was hurt by it. I said, listen, you sent me
[45:20] Speaker 3: a text asking for thirty thousand dollars. That's offensive, Like
[45:23] Speaker 3: call me see how I'm doing. Yes, And then and
[45:26] Speaker 3: then I don't mind, you know, I don't mind giving
[45:28] Speaker 3: you the money. Well, this family member got offended, so
[45:31] Speaker 3: I'll never ask you for nothing else. I was just
[45:33] Speaker 3: a well, I was just saying, how how impersonal.
[45:36] Speaker 2: The text is yeah, absolutely.
[45:39] Speaker 3: A little while later, get another text, I need I
[45:43] Speaker 3: need thirty thousand dollars the same person, and then the
[45:46] Speaker 3: follow up text was make it forty tyler, I kid
[45:50] Speaker 3: you not. And I was hurt by the sense the
[45:54] Speaker 3: fact that make it forty yeah, yes, just that it
[45:57] Speaker 3: was just so blatantly like I'm just the money, right Yeah.
[46:00] Speaker 3: And I get to this place called it's this thing
[46:02] Speaker 3: called compassion fatigue, where you just gift exhausted from giving,
[46:06] Speaker 3: like and you and for me, I have to go
[46:08] Speaker 3: away and pray and get myself back together because I
[46:12] Speaker 3: get to get my face kind of place, you know
[46:15] Speaker 3: what I mean. So so I have to go back
[46:16] Speaker 3: and get right with that. But having that, having you know,
[46:19] Speaker 3: family members, you know, that's crazy.
[46:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, I just wonder how you deal on your level
[46:26] Speaker 1: because nobody's calling me for thirty well.
[46:30] Speaker 3: Right, right, so let's go back. Let's go back. But
[46:34] Speaker 3: you know what, I learned to accept them as who
[46:36] Speaker 3: they are, and the family doesn't necessarily have to be
[46:40] Speaker 3: the people that are your blood. So I started surrounding
[46:44] Speaker 3: myself with people who genuinely cared about me. If we
[46:48] Speaker 3: were on a boat on just some when we're in
[46:49] Speaker 3: our groups on the trips, if we're on a boat,
[46:51] Speaker 3: if we're on the island for you know, these people care. Yes,
[46:54] Speaker 3: they can't pay for it, but they're there because they
[46:57] Speaker 3: want to support you and care for you. And that
[47:00] Speaker 3: it was more like family.
[47:01] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[47:01] Speaker 3: So my family gets money, but they have to work
[47:09] Speaker 3: or they won't get money, right because I'm not the
[47:14] Speaker 3: bank and I'm not the government. Yeah, and I think
[47:18] Speaker 3: it's important that people work. So working is so important.
[47:24] Speaker 2: I agree.
[47:25] Speaker 1: Was there ever a moment where you had survivors rem
[47:27] Speaker 1: worries where you the only person in your family that
[47:29] Speaker 1: has made it, where you feel like, no, I feel
[47:32] Speaker 1: bad that I'm the one that made it and everybody
[47:34] Speaker 1: else did.
[47:34] Speaker 2: And so I got it. I have to do these things.
[47:37] Speaker 3: First year I made money. I went from being dead broke.
[47:40] Speaker 3: I was twenty eight years old. I made one hundred
[47:42] Speaker 3: thirty thousand dollars. I was said, oh my god, one
[47:44] Speaker 3: hundred and thirty thousand dollars. Got to the end of
[47:46] Speaker 3: the year, had nothing to pay my taxes because I'd
[47:49] Speaker 3: given it all the way. Wow, that's so much guilt
[47:51] Speaker 3: that I've given it to all the family.
[47:53] Speaker 2: All friends.
[47:54] Speaker 3: Next year, I think I've made a million and a half.
[47:57] Speaker 3: Same thing happened again. Wow, next year I made seven million.
[48:01] Speaker 3: Same thing happened again. Because I had so much guilt,
[48:04] Speaker 3: because I had and I think this is something that
[48:06] Speaker 3: we as black people carry because of what we've been through.
[48:09] Speaker 3: And when you have you think, oh my god, I
[48:12] Speaker 3: need to bring everybody else up with me. That's a
[48:15] Speaker 3: beautiful thought. But in the beginning that's bullshit. Take that bullshit,
[48:21] Speaker 3: get take that out of your mind, because I'm gonna
[48:22] Speaker 3: tell you right now. If you have a boat that
[48:25] Speaker 3: can help you get to one from this place to
[48:28] Speaker 3: that place so that you can get a bigger boat
[48:30] Speaker 3: and you can only take two or three people, don't
[48:32] Speaker 3: let everybody on that boat. And you got to be
[48:35] Speaker 3: also careful because when you put too many people on
[48:37] Speaker 3: the boat, there's some trying to put holes in it
[48:40] Speaker 3: because they wanted to sink because they don't like that
[48:43] Speaker 3: you're sailing. Yeah, so you have to be careful, right
[48:48] Speaker 3: or there's some that are putting holes in the boat
[48:51] Speaker 3: because they don't feel that they're worthy of it. And
[48:54] Speaker 3: I've had that too, where I was trying to pull
[48:56] Speaker 3: people up to come on, come on, this as far
[48:58] Speaker 3: as we can. We've been together all these years. We
[49:00] Speaker 3: can make this happen. It's gonna be wonderful. It's gonna
[49:02] Speaker 3: be great. But the whole thing that I had to
[49:06] Speaker 3: realize is that some people cannot survive at certain altitudes.
[49:10] Speaker 3: So if you're pulling somebody up a hill, who when
[49:13] Speaker 3: you get to ten thousand feet they can't breathe, You're
[49:15] Speaker 3: going to kill them. Yeah, so it's okay to leave
[49:18] Speaker 3: them there until they learned the conditioning of what it
[49:21] Speaker 3: takes to be at ten thousand feet.
[49:23] Speaker 2: Wow. Yeah, that's good, that's good.
[49:25] Speaker 3: It's true.
[49:26] Speaker 2: I'm going through a season. I just did an episode
[49:29] Speaker 2: called Purging Season and season two and it was just about.
[49:32] Speaker 3: Say that again. I'm sorry, Purging season season one?
[49:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, season one. I did an episode called Purging
[49:37] Speaker 2: Season and it's literally like God was just removing people
[49:41] Speaker 2: like friends, family. It was just like, Lord, what is
[49:43] Speaker 2: happening right now?
[49:45] Speaker 1: And you're starting to see that, like you said, people
[49:47] Speaker 1: can't breathe the altitude that you're going to, or you
[49:49] Speaker 1: did a speech about it. I think it was a
[49:52] Speaker 1: commencement speech on we talked about rocket boosters. Yeah, and
[49:55] Speaker 1: I was like when you said that, That's exactly what
[49:57] Speaker 1: came to mind when I thought about, Lord, what is
[49:59] Speaker 1: this that you're taking me through right now? Because I
[50:01] Speaker 1: felt like I was losing people I was really close to.
[50:05] Speaker 1: But everybody can't go.
[50:06] Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, and you've ever seen a bunch of
[50:08] Speaker 3: kids on America around it goes faster and faster and
[50:11] Speaker 3: faster and faster and faster. What you find is that
[50:13] Speaker 3: the people who are closest to the center can hold
[50:16] Speaker 3: the tightest. The ones who are out toward the who
[50:19] Speaker 3: are holding on are getting the most of the g
[50:21] Speaker 3: forces its to they can't handle it. Yeah, so those
[50:25] Speaker 3: people have fallen. So I call it the spend. There
[50:27] Speaker 3: is sometimes in your life you'll start to spend and
[50:31] Speaker 3: you're spinning up to the next level and people start
[50:33] Speaker 3: to fall off. And let me tell you something, it hurts.
[50:36] Speaker 3: It's lonely, especially when it's somebody that you really really
[50:40] Speaker 3: loved and had a great time with and wish that
[50:42] Speaker 3: they could be there with you. But you have to
[50:46] Speaker 3: understand and realize that that toxicity is poisoned to your wings.
[50:52] Speaker 3: It will cause you to crash. So you have to
[50:56] Speaker 3: be able to say I love you, I'm sorry this
[51:00] Speaker 3: does not work for me. Yeah, then you get the
[51:02] Speaker 3: shit all you boogie you changing what's Oh no, now
[51:05] Speaker 3: you got all this and you don't want none of
[51:08] Speaker 3: that matters. Yeah, walk through the pain of the Loneliess
[51:11] Speaker 3: come and tell you something. The higher you go, the
[51:14] Speaker 3: smaller that circle gets.
[51:15] Speaker 2: You're so right. Yeah, I'm just getting started.
[51:18] Speaker 3: I see it, and it's okay. It's okay because I
[51:21] Speaker 3: promise you, if you ask God to give you what
[51:23] Speaker 3: you need, they show up.
[51:26] Speaker 2: They do.
[51:26] Speaker 1: Yeah, show up, and I have what I need. I
[51:28] Speaker 1: do like, I really have a good core. And everybody
[51:31] Speaker 1: that's around me, I know they love me. They support
[51:33] Speaker 1: me wholeheartedly. We all have our own thing going on.
[51:37] Speaker 1: And it's no jealousy, and that's what that's.
[51:39] Speaker 3: What you want, because jealousy will show up in ways
[51:44] Speaker 3: that you didn't even expect it. And people who've been
[51:47] Speaker 3: right up under you as long as you didn't exceed
[51:50] Speaker 3: what they thought you could be, the minute you start
[51:53] Speaker 3: to go higher than they believed you could go, it's ugly.
[51:57] Speaker 1: Yeah, no, absolutely, Yeah, that's a real thing. And it
[52:01] Speaker 1: is lonely. It is they say it's lonely at the
[52:03] Speaker 1: top of.
[52:03] Speaker 3: It, not lying, but here's what I had to learn
[52:05] Speaker 3: how to do. I had to learn to get all
[52:08] Speaker 3: of my friends. Nobody can give you all everything you need.
[52:12] Speaker 3: So all of my friends were brought something. It's like
[52:17] Speaker 3: a like you have a pot luck where you can
[52:19] Speaker 3: bring everybody brings it something to eat. And some people
[52:22] Speaker 3: may be able to bring fruit, something, bring vegetables something,
[52:25] Speaker 3: bring chicken something. So I had all of my friends
[52:28] Speaker 3: bring me something different, yes, so that I have all
[52:31] Speaker 3: that I need. You can't get it from one person.
[52:34] Speaker 2: Absolutely, It's so good. I love that.
[52:38] Speaker 1: Denor had actually spoke on something recently that piggybacks off
[52:41] Speaker 1: of what you said. She goes a lot of times
[52:43] Speaker 1: when God brings people in your life, you're like, why
[52:45] Speaker 1: am I not getting what I'm putting into this? Like
[52:47] Speaker 1: I'm pooring, I'm pooring, I'm pouring into this person, but
[52:50] Speaker 1: I'm not getting it back. And she said that sometimes
[52:53] Speaker 1: that person isn't putting your life to pour back into you.
[52:56] Speaker 1: You're on an assignment to them, and it's somebody else
[52:58] Speaker 1: that's going to bring you what you need.
[53:00] Speaker 3: That's that's your one right, that's exactly right, and and
[53:04] Speaker 3: you have to understand that when it's your time to poor.
[53:08] Speaker 3: Do that, yes, and hopefully that seed that you're watering
[53:16] Speaker 3: will start to grow in that person. Because I've seen
[53:18] Speaker 3: this like in you, like seeing you come up to
[53:22] Speaker 3: this place of like look I poured it into a
[53:25] Speaker 3: now look, And I've got thousands of those examples in
[53:28] Speaker 3: the studios, like I poured in look at him now.
[53:30] Speaker 3: And it warms me so much because when you're pouring
[53:34] Speaker 3: poor with pure intention, yes, and then you don't worry
[53:38] Speaker 3: about being hurt if if it doesn't work out. Just
[53:43] Speaker 3: just be pure and your intention. Don't let people change
[53:46] Speaker 3: your intention, even if they give you their ask to
[53:49] Speaker 3: kiss after you were trying to help them. Don't stop
[53:51] Speaker 3: who you are going and help the next person, you know.
[53:54] Speaker 3: So that is so important, so important. That's really good.
[53:58] Speaker 3: It's really good. Yeah.
[54:01] Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, she's been dropping some nuggets. I'm like, birl,
[54:04] Speaker 2: God is really talking to you and me. I love it.
[54:08] Speaker 1: So I want to go back to some of your journey.
[54:11] Speaker 1: You started off in the chilling circuit with media plays.
[54:13] Speaker 1: You worked you way up to owning your own studio.
[54:17] Speaker 1: At the time that you were like doing the smaller place,
[54:20] Speaker 1: what was it for like even actually, I want to
[54:22] Speaker 1: go back to when you decided, like I, what was
[54:26] Speaker 1: that in between phases like right before things went crazy,
[54:30] Speaker 1: like when you were doing The Smaller Place, What was
[54:33] Speaker 1: that like?
[54:33] Speaker 3: There was no in between phases? Was twenty eight years old?
[54:36] Speaker 3: That was twenty seven, Broke Homeless twenty eight. I had
[54:40] Speaker 3: been trying to do the show for seven years, and
[54:43] Speaker 3: in nineteen ninety eight the show took off. So it
[54:47] Speaker 3: was famine, famine, famine, struggles, struggle, desert, desert, desert, Jesus.
[54:51] Speaker 3: Then all of a sudden, it was abundance. It was
[54:53] Speaker 3: the abundant rainbow. So I went from ninety when I
[54:57] Speaker 3: started in ninety eight. That's why I feel like I
[54:59] Speaker 3: missed twelve years of min life though I was working
[55:00] Speaker 3: so hard ninety eight at twenty eight, and I came.
[55:05] Speaker 3: I kind of came to myself at forty, like I
[55:08] Speaker 3: woke up going, whoh, you did it? But you missed
[55:14] Speaker 3: everything because there's so many of those moments I don't remember.
[55:18] Speaker 3: I was so laser focused on making the success work.
[55:23] Speaker 3: And also I was afraid of going back that we
[55:27] Speaker 3: talked about earlier. I didn't want to be broke again.
[55:29] Speaker 3: I didn't want to, you know, I need to have
[55:31] Speaker 3: my medicine for my mother. That's how it all started.
[55:33] Speaker 3: I just need to if I lower just My prayer was, Lord,
[55:35] Speaker 3: just let me make enough money take care of her.
[55:38] Speaker 3: And I had millions, and it still wasn't enough in
[55:41] Speaker 3: my mind. So I was still going really really really
[55:44] Speaker 3: hard until she died. When she died, it had reset me,
[55:50] Speaker 3: like everything I was pushing for was gone. Yeah, but
[55:56] Speaker 3: those those times were so such a blur because I
[56:03] Speaker 3: just worked all the way through.
[56:05] Speaker 2: Do you have any regrets?
[56:06] Speaker 3: Sometimes I do because I look I feel like I'm
[56:10] Speaker 3: twelve years younger, because I went into this silo of
[56:15] Speaker 3: working and I came out twelve years later of like, okay,
[56:19] Speaker 3: oh wait, this is what the world is, this is
[56:21] Speaker 3: what wait people, well, they were enjoying themselves at these
[56:27] Speaker 3: parties and oscars and award shows. I wouldn't you know
[56:30] Speaker 3: how I would walk in and out. I was like,
[56:32] Speaker 3: I'm not nope, this is work.
[56:34] Speaker 2: Back to work.
[56:35] Speaker 3: Yeah, we're good. Back to work. Literally, So I feel
[56:37] Speaker 3: like I missed twelve years of my life. Even though
[56:41] Speaker 3: now I look back at some wonderful things happened, I'm
[56:44] Speaker 3: telling you I missed them all. Like I'll see photos
[56:47] Speaker 3: or somebody remind us you remember when I go, wow, you're.
[56:50] Speaker 2: Right, yeah, yeah, that's amazing.
[56:53] Speaker 3: But instead of being fifty three, I'm forty one. There
[56:58] Speaker 3: you go, there you go, there you go.
[57:00] Speaker 2: I love it.
[57:02] Speaker 1: What does a billionaire like you who has a busy schedule?
[57:06] Speaker 2: What do you do for yourself?
[57:07] Speaker 3: Like?
[57:08] Speaker 2: What do you you know? A lot of players say like, Ike,
[57:10] Speaker 2: this is my meantime, this is what I do. What
[57:11] Speaker 2: do you do for fun?
[57:13] Speaker 1: What do you do to like take care of toyland
[57:15] Speaker 1: of your body? I know you work out or you
[57:17] Speaker 1: like to travel, but like, what are things that you do?
[57:19] Speaker 1: Because a lot of people like you're working all the time,
[57:21] Speaker 1: when do you have time for just you?
[57:23] Speaker 3: You know what? People think that I'm a lot busier
[57:25] Speaker 3: than I am. But because we work so fast, because
[57:29] Speaker 3: I building bricks, I don't try to kill myself like
[57:31] Speaker 3: like I would have back then. But now no I building.
[57:35] Speaker 3: I'm gonna work three months, really really hard, NonStop. I'm
[57:38] Speaker 3: gonna exhaust myself and I'm gonna take two months off.
[57:40] Speaker 3: I'm gonna go to my place in Wyoming or Colorado.
[57:42] Speaker 3: I'm gonna walk through the woods and be in nature.
[57:45] Speaker 3: I'm gonna talk to God. I'm gonna go down to
[57:47] Speaker 3: the island. I'm going to cry, I'm gonna pray. I'm
[57:49] Speaker 3: gonna lick my wounds to see who who stayed, who
[57:52] Speaker 3: didn't work? Where am I hurt? Am I okay? Am
[57:56] Speaker 3: I feeling loved? Am I feeling supported? I check in
[57:59] Speaker 3: with mysel So I talk to God about it. It's
[58:01] Speaker 3: so important. It's so important. But the biggest thing that
[58:06] Speaker 3: I do, because I can do it every day that
[58:08] Speaker 3: I'm working, it's just build airplanes, build modern airplanes. Yes,
[58:12] Speaker 3: me and my me and my son will sit there
[58:14] Speaker 3: and just he's loving it. We're you know, it's just
[58:17] Speaker 3: it's the simplest thing. But to build something that we'll
[58:22] Speaker 3: be able to fly. Yeah, I feel like I'm teaching
[58:25] Speaker 3: my son how to literally fly.
[58:27] Speaker 1: Wow.
[58:28] Speaker 3: So so those moments are really beautiful. And this kid,
[58:32] Speaker 3: you see, you know, he's he's amazing.
[58:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, brilliant. Oh my gosh. I can't wait to
[58:38] Speaker 2: see where he goes and what he decides to do.
[58:41] Speaker 2: His life is gonna be amazing.
[58:42] Speaker 3: Yeah, And you know, whatever it is, I just want
[58:46] Speaker 3: him to be the best at it and be happy.
[58:48] Speaker 2: I love it.
[58:49] Speaker 3: Yeah, just be happy son. Yeah, because right now it's
[58:52] Speaker 3: a race car driver, astronaut and a track and field
[58:54] Speaker 3: runner and a comedian. So we had a business meeting
[58:59] Speaker 3: in my office a few weeks ago and I was
[59:01] Speaker 3: asking him. You know, he was in the room when
[59:04] Speaker 3: I was having all these meetings, and he comes, Okay,
[59:06] Speaker 3: Papa's my turn to meet. I have see what do
[59:09] Speaker 3: you want to talk about? I want to talk about
[59:10] Speaker 3: my life in my career and what I'm going to do.
[59:12] Speaker 3: It's like, okay, eight years old.
[59:15] Speaker 2: I love it.
[59:15] Speaker 3: Yeah, So I recorded it and I can't wait to
[59:17] Speaker 3: show him when he's older, like, this is what you
[59:19] Speaker 3: wanted to talk about.
[59:20] Speaker 1: That That is amazing. It's amazing when you are dealing
[59:24] Speaker 1: with things. Mental health is really big. Like a black
[59:27] Speaker 1: community is like really honing in on it and understanding
[59:30] Speaker 1: it more. We're more open to therapy. Who does someone
[59:33] Speaker 1: like Tyler Perry talk to. You have someone that you
[59:35] Speaker 1: can like say, hey, this is what I'm going through.
[59:37] Speaker 3: Jesus h Yeah, no, Oprah TD Jake's you know, I
[59:42] Speaker 3: have Michelle Obama. I have really good people who have
[59:46] Speaker 3: been through some things. I used to talk to Sicily
[59:49] Speaker 3: Tyson you know about things just that level of history
[59:54] Speaker 3: and lessons that she's learned. And Sidney Poiitier. I went
[59:57] Speaker 3: to the Masters. Yes, I was flying to to Africa,
[1:00:01] Speaker 3: and I invited both of them to fly with me.
[1:00:02] Speaker 3: So I literally sat at their feet listening to their stories.
[1:00:05] Speaker 3: You know, Clarence Avon died a couple of days ago,
[1:00:09] Speaker 3: and he just was He was the black golf he
[1:00:13] Speaker 3: was absolutely and any time you needed anything or something
[1:00:17] Speaker 3: put together this or presidents or that, he was the man.
[1:00:22] Speaker 3: So you know, I had a chance to spend time
[1:00:24] Speaker 3: with him. That that's just Quincy Jones, these guys, Harry
[1:00:28] Speaker 3: Belafante on the phone with him. That's what I mean
[1:00:30] Speaker 3: that those those are the people. But all our legends
[1:00:33] Speaker 3: are getting out of here. So so I'm hoping that,
[1:00:38] Speaker 3: you know, more of us will be open to sharing.
[1:00:41] Speaker 3: You know, when I talked to Jay jay Z, he
[1:00:43] Speaker 3: he is one of those people. It's like, listen, I
[1:00:46] Speaker 3: got the information, come hit it, you know. So yeah,
[1:00:50] Speaker 3: but as so as mental health goes, I tell you
[1:00:51] Speaker 3: the main problem. That's how you look at the tobacco crisis.
[1:00:56] Speaker 3: When everybody was talking about how cigarettes were in the beginning,
[1:00:59] Speaker 3: they were saying, but people made billions of dollars on it.
[1:01:02] Speaker 3: Then you look at all the other opioid crisis, crack cocaine. Right,
[1:01:08] Speaker 3: there's another crisis that is happening that is affecting people's
[1:01:11] Speaker 3: mental health in ways that nobody's talking about. And I'm
[1:01:15] Speaker 3: hoping one day that it comes crashing down, like the
[1:01:19] Speaker 3: tobacco industry, like the like the opioid addiction industry, Perdue pharma,
[1:01:26] Speaker 3: and that is social media.
[1:01:28] Speaker 2: I know you're going to say that, Oh my gosh,
[1:01:30] Speaker 2: you are right.
[1:01:32] Speaker 3: If you don't believe me, try to try to turn
[1:01:34] Speaker 3: it off and put it down.
[1:01:36] Speaker 1: I pick up my phone randomly, like right, I'll be
[1:01:39] Speaker 1: doing something then before I know what, I'm just scrolling
[1:01:41] Speaker 1: on Instagram.
[1:01:42] Speaker 2: It's like a drug.
[1:01:43] Speaker 3: Yes, and you're being fed whatever whatever algorithm you chose,
[1:01:49] Speaker 3: because it's attached to where you go, where they are
[1:01:52] Speaker 3: tracking everything you're doing, and whatever mood you're in you're in,
[1:01:58] Speaker 3: that's what it's going to enhance. Yeah, So if you're
[1:02:00] Speaker 3: a person who's already struggling, sad and depressed and dealing
[1:02:03] Speaker 3: with some things, it's going to be really, really tough
[1:02:05] Speaker 3: to come up higher when you're constantly being fed things
[1:02:10] Speaker 3: that make you sad and depressed. I'm not talking about
[1:02:12] Speaker 3: clinical Depression'm talking about people who are sad and depression.
[1:02:14] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, No, I used to.
[1:02:16] Speaker 1: I went through a phase where I had body dysmorphia
[1:02:20] Speaker 1: because I would look on Instagram and I would see
[1:02:22] Speaker 1: all these perfect bodies, whether it was plastic surgery bodies
[1:02:25] Speaker 1: or just.
[1:02:25] Speaker 2: Everything is perfect. Everybody's just showing the highlight reel. That's
[1:02:28] Speaker 2: all you're seeing. You never seeing the downtimes.
[1:02:30] Speaker 1: And I'll try to be more transparent with that because
[1:02:32] Speaker 1: people just think our life is so perfect.
[1:02:34] Speaker 2: I'm like, no, it's nuts.
[1:02:36] Speaker 3: And listen. I know a lot of those folks, and
[1:02:38] Speaker 3: I'd be like, this your life for real, because that
[1:02:42] Speaker 3: ain't what you're really going through. So it's just like,
[1:02:46] Speaker 3: stop with the madness, stop with the madness. So trying
[1:02:49] Speaker 3: to give this perfect image that everything's perfect, because there
[1:02:53] Speaker 3: are people who are really struggling, who are really looking
[1:02:55] Speaker 3: to these images and thinking this is how my life
[1:02:59] Speaker 3: should be. Now. If it's aspirational, great, but if it's
[1:03:02] Speaker 3: something that you know, damn well, you got thirty eight
[1:03:04] Speaker 3: filters on two thousands, three touches and forty eight something
[1:03:08] Speaker 3: else to make sure it looks great.
[1:03:09] Speaker 2: Come on, I was that girl?
[1:03:12] Speaker 3: Go ahead, digital botox.
[1:03:17] Speaker 2: Yeah, all the things.
[1:03:18] Speaker 3: I worry about it for my son who's not on it,
[1:03:20] Speaker 3: who doesn't see it. He doesn't you know, he reads books,
[1:03:24] Speaker 3: So I don't want him to be so unaware of it.
[1:03:28] Speaker 3: But I want him to know who he is before
[1:03:30] Speaker 3: the world starts to try to tell him who he is.
[1:03:32] Speaker 2: That's so good. I love it. I love it.
[1:03:35] Speaker 1: So when we talk about God and aligning your vision
[1:03:39] Speaker 1: with God, how do you create the space for God
[1:03:41] Speaker 1: to really like talk to you and say, hey, I
[1:03:43] Speaker 1: know you said. Sometimes things get shaken up when you
[1:03:46] Speaker 1: start to try to go against what God is saying,
[1:03:48] Speaker 1: maybe because you see something totally different.
[1:03:50] Speaker 3: Because your vision is not aligned. And I've learned to
[1:03:52] Speaker 3: surrender to God's vision. I don't try to align have
[1:03:55] Speaker 3: him aligned to my vision. I let the opposite happen.
[1:03:58] Speaker 3: I'm like, Okay, where are we going? What are we doing?
[1:04:02] Speaker 3: And I've learned so much God to trust you that
[1:04:06] Speaker 3: this is the way I'm going to go because I
[1:04:09] Speaker 3: don't want the resistance and the fighting of the other stuff.
[1:04:12] Speaker 3: It's just to surrender to it. But again, I keep
[1:04:14] Speaker 3: going back to social media, because it is so hard
[1:04:18] Speaker 3: to hear from God in noise. And if you are
[1:04:22] Speaker 3: the type of person that is seeking advice from every
[1:04:25] Speaker 3: friend you have online, every Instagram, every TikTok, if you're
[1:04:30] Speaker 3: seeking advice, how can you know the still small voice
[1:04:34] Speaker 3: that I believe is God. That's why I have to
[1:04:37] Speaker 3: remove myself and not be on anything digital and just
[1:04:41] Speaker 3: listen to see what I hear. Walking in nature is
[1:04:43] Speaker 3: the best way. I was out in Colorado and the
[1:04:48] Speaker 3: wind just whispered past. I heard it. I thought it
[1:04:51] Speaker 3: was traffic coming, because we're up on this mountain. I
[1:04:54] Speaker 3: thought it was traffic. I asked to God, as is
[1:04:55] Speaker 3: that the traffic is said, No, that's the wind that's coming.
[1:04:58] Speaker 3: And I heard it come that over the mouth, down
[1:05:01] Speaker 3: through the valley and come up over it, and and
[1:05:03] Speaker 3: and and for me, that's like I how I think
[1:05:06] Speaker 3: God will speak, like, they'll be over there, just a
[1:05:09] Speaker 3: little bit of something that you that you missed. Wow,
[1:05:13] Speaker 3: and then there's another something. Okay, you missed. You missed
[1:05:16] Speaker 3: the acorn, so now the branch has to fall. Okay,
[1:05:18] Speaker 3: you missed the branch. Now the trees got to fall
[1:05:20] Speaker 3: on you. Okay, you still miss that. The whole forest
[1:05:23] Speaker 3: is burning. So I've learned to just when I see
[1:05:26] Speaker 3: the acorn, I'm gonna be like, oh no, no, no, no,
[1:05:28] Speaker 3: let me get Let me get that, because I don't
[1:05:29] Speaker 3: want the tree of the forest. Just give me the acorn.
[1:05:32] Speaker 1: Oh that's good, because yeah, the whole forest be burning
[1:05:34] Speaker 1: around me because I'm like, no, I see it this way,
[1:05:38] Speaker 1: like I need to get better as surrendering, I always
[1:05:41] Speaker 1: ask for God to order myself, but I still am
[1:05:44] Speaker 1: very much like, Okay, this is the way I see.
[1:05:47] Speaker 2: I'm just gonna go this way until God is like, girl,
[1:05:49] Speaker 2: get yeah.
[1:05:50] Speaker 3: God, God in the Bible says, my thoughts of you
[1:05:53] Speaker 3: are pure and of a good report, and that you
[1:05:56] Speaker 3: be in health and prosper as your soul prospers. Right,
[1:06:00] Speaker 3: So all of that's good. Right, So if your vision
[1:06:06] Speaker 3: isn't aligned with what's good, then I don't know how
[1:06:10] Speaker 3: that can be. God, Right, that's so good, and what's
[1:06:13] Speaker 3: good for you may not be the thing that you're
[1:06:14] Speaker 3: supposed to do at the time.
[1:06:15] Speaker 2: And that's normally would I be doing.
[1:06:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, I always do things that I don't mean be doing.
[1:06:23] Speaker 1: And God's like, girl, we've been through this before. Why
[1:06:26] Speaker 1: are you still doing the same thing.
[1:06:27] Speaker 3: But let me tell you something. I really didn't understand
[1:06:30] Speaker 3: the love of God until I had a child. Wow,
[1:06:33] Speaker 3: And if God loves us more than I love my child,
[1:06:35] Speaker 3: and I can't even wrap my brain around that because this,
[1:06:39] Speaker 3: and he does because this. When I see him making
[1:06:42] Speaker 3: a mistake or when I see him going the wrong,
[1:06:44] Speaker 3: doing something wrong, I'm like, Okay, how do I correct him?
[1:06:48] Speaker 3: How do I get him on the straight narrow? And
[1:06:49] Speaker 3: I'm going to choose the level of correction based on
[1:06:52] Speaker 3: how hard he's going at it.
[1:06:53] Speaker 2: Yep, yeah, yeah, that's good. I love that. I love it.
[1:06:58] Speaker 1: So we talked about you having vision as a little boy,
[1:07:01] Speaker 1: So as an adult, what do you once you have
[1:07:04] Speaker 1: that vision? How did how do you decide a God,
[1:07:06] Speaker 1: I'm going to partner with you to bring this to life?
[1:07:09] Speaker 1: Is it through prayer, through meditation, or just always keeping
[1:07:12] Speaker 1: him involved?
[1:07:13] Speaker 3: It's his vision. So you you riding a law he
[1:07:17] Speaker 3: gave it. Yeah you ain't. You ain't in partnership. It's
[1:07:20] Speaker 3: his vision for your life. So it's it's it's surrendering
[1:07:24] Speaker 3: to where is this taking me? That's the thing, like,
[1:07:27] Speaker 3: where is this taking me? And how? That's why I'm
[1:07:29] Speaker 3: saying the most frustrating part of my early life was
[1:07:31] Speaker 3: having all these visions and not seeing the past. Yea,
[1:07:34] Speaker 3: So I could have did a million plays and never
[1:07:38] Speaker 3: saw anybody ever saw never. God had to line all
[1:07:42] Speaker 3: of that up for it to start to work. Wow,
[1:07:45] Speaker 3: And I had to be willing to get in the
[1:07:48] Speaker 3: middle of it and go hard. That's why I missed
[1:07:51] Speaker 3: those twelve years, because I just I was in the will.
[1:07:55] Speaker 3: In the will yeah yeah, still yeah, still. But I'm
[1:07:59] Speaker 3: enjoyed my life a lot more now. I'm enjoying them.
[1:08:01] Speaker 3: I'm taking the moments now. I was just at an
[1:08:04] Speaker 3: age where you know that's running hard.
[1:08:06] Speaker 1: I love you in life, see yeah, happy and enjoying.
[1:08:09] Speaker 3: Yeah, wearing nice clothes, going concerts. You know, got some
[1:08:13] Speaker 3: blame things I never bought before. But yeah, yep, had
[1:08:22] Speaker 3: my Soups suits, my Steve Hobbins suits back in the
[1:08:24] Speaker 3: day I was clean. They have my rabbit ja They
[1:08:30] Speaker 3: told me it was a mink, but it was a
[1:08:32] Speaker 3: rabbit when I bought it. A Green Briar bought a
[1:08:36] Speaker 3: Green I did. I wanted that store still there. I
[1:08:38] Speaker 3: need to go by this store just.
[1:08:39] Speaker 2: It probably is. It is hilarious. Tyler, thank you so much.
[1:08:44] Speaker 2: This is no I appreciate you.
[1:08:46] Speaker 3: I am beyond proud of you. Thank you, so so
[1:08:48] Speaker 3: proud of thank you. Looking at you come through all
[1:08:51] Speaker 3: of this, and I was right there with you to
[1:08:53] Speaker 3: see it. Yeah, see it. Look at you.
[1:08:56] Speaker 1: It's crazy when you wake up in here, You're like
[1:08:59] Speaker 1: when those doors and walk in here, I'm like, this
[1:09:01] Speaker 1: is my life.
[1:09:02] Speaker 2: This is my life. Yeah yeah, and it feels so good.
[1:09:05] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:09:05] Speaker 2: If it's things, thank you. I appreciate you coming today.
[1:09:13] Speaker 1: At the close of the show, we do what is
[1:09:14] Speaker 1: called positive outcomes, where our viewers actually write into us
[1:09:18] Speaker 1: and we're going.
[1:09:19] Speaker 2: To give them some advice.
[1:09:20] Speaker 1: So our listener letter today says, Hi, Crystal, thank you
[1:09:23] Speaker 1: for taking the time to help me. Lately, I've been
[1:09:25] Speaker 1: feeling like I am stuck. It's like I'm being pushed
[1:09:28] Speaker 1: to bigger and greater things, but I feel like I'm
[1:09:30] Speaker 1: getting in my own way. My fear and insecurity keeps
[1:09:33] Speaker 1: holding me back, and I feel my self battle with
[1:09:36] Speaker 1: the fear of others saying who does she think she is?
[1:09:39] Speaker 2: By fully stepping into whatever it greater?
[1:09:41] Speaker 1: Is the best way I can describe it is that
[1:09:45] Speaker 1: feeling when I'm on a boat and God has called
[1:09:47] Speaker 1: me to the water, But my fear of drowning is
[1:09:49] Speaker 1: greater than my faith that God will help me float.
[1:09:52] Speaker 1: So I'm just standing at the edge of the boat,
[1:09:54] Speaker 1: not jumping. How can I get myself to jump?
[1:09:57] Speaker 3: Go back and read again, Read again?
[1:09:59] Speaker 1: Okay, Hi Crystal, thank you for taking the time to
[1:10:04] Speaker 1: help me. Lately, I've been feeling like I am stuck.
[1:10:07] Speaker 3: It's like I'm being problem number one. I have been
[1:10:11] Speaker 3: feeling like I am stuck. She's speaking that, I have
[1:10:15] Speaker 3: been feeling like I am stuck. So you speak things
[1:10:18] Speaker 3: into existence, power of life, and destin in the tongue.
[1:10:21] Speaker 3: I have been feeling like I am stuck, rather than
[1:10:25] Speaker 3: I am not stuck. God, It's gonna make a way.
[1:10:29] Speaker 3: I am not stuck going What's there something else? She said?
[1:10:32] Speaker 1: She says, it's like I'm being pushed to bigger and
[1:10:35] Speaker 1: greater things, but I feel like I'm getting in my
[1:10:37] Speaker 1: own way.
[1:10:37] Speaker 3: It's like I'm being pushed. No, I am being pushed
[1:10:41] Speaker 3: to bigger and greater things, but I am getting in
[1:10:46] Speaker 3: my way and understanding your own words, here's here when
[1:10:49] Speaker 3: you maybe you give them the answers to yourself. I
[1:10:52] Speaker 3: am getting in my own way? Well, why what is
[1:10:54] Speaker 3: your motivation? Why are you getting in your own way?
[1:10:57] Speaker 3: What did mama say? What did daddy say? What they
[1:10:58] Speaker 3: say at school? What did what did the little girl?
[1:11:00] Speaker 3: And you deal with that makes you get into the
[1:11:03] Speaker 3: way of the successful woman that's trying to figure it
[1:11:05] Speaker 3: all out. So you've got to go back and undo
[1:11:08] Speaker 3: some of those voices. And every time you hear something negative.
[1:11:11] Speaker 3: When I was coming through all this stuff, every time
[1:11:13] Speaker 3: I would hear something negative, be like, Nope, I'm not
[1:11:14] Speaker 3: letting it in because I believe I can do this.
[1:11:16] Speaker 3: God said, I can do this. This is going to
[1:11:18] Speaker 3: be okay, It's all going to work out every time.
[1:11:21] Speaker 3: Don't let negative voices in your head become your reality
[1:11:26] Speaker 3: because they will. They will.
[1:11:28] Speaker 2: That is so true, she is.
[1:11:30] Speaker 1: And then she said, my fear and insecurity he was
[1:11:33] Speaker 1: holding me back. I feel myself battle with the fear
[1:11:36] Speaker 1: of other people, saying, who does she think she is
[1:11:38] Speaker 1: about fully stepping into.
[1:11:39] Speaker 3: That my fear and is holding my fear is holding
[1:11:43] Speaker 3: me back. Here's something you have to understand about fear.
[1:11:47] Speaker 3: Fear and excitement can mimic the same emotions in you. Wow,
[1:11:52] Speaker 3: so you can be excited, but you think you're afraid. Yes,
[1:11:58] Speaker 3: so you have to be clear about what you're identifying, right, yeah, yeah.
[1:12:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, good Wow, you helping me, my goodness?
[1:12:06] Speaker 1: And it says the best way I can describe it
[1:12:09] Speaker 1: is that I feel like I'm on a boat and
[1:12:10] Speaker 1: God has called me to the water. But my fear
[1:12:12] Speaker 1: here goes fear again of drowning is greater than my
[1:12:15] Speaker 1: faith that God will help me float Yep, where did.
[1:12:17] Speaker 3: It come from? And let me tell you some fear
[1:12:19] Speaker 3: is good. A healthy, a healthy dose of fear is
[1:12:21] Speaker 3: good to have because it keeps you grounded, it keeps
[1:12:24] Speaker 3: you humble, and it keeps you praying. I never would
[1:12:27] Speaker 3: have gotten to this place if I hadn't been afraid. Yes,
[1:12:31] Speaker 3: every major decision was like, goh, what if this doesn't
[1:12:34] Speaker 3: work out? No, get that out of your head, because
[1:12:36] Speaker 3: you cannot be afraid because that And as I the
[1:12:40] Speaker 3: more and I say this to her, the more successes
[1:12:43] Speaker 3: she has. Even if she looks back in her over
[1:12:45] Speaker 3: her life. Nine times out of ten when I ask
[1:12:47] Speaker 3: people this, that blows their mind. And look back and
[1:12:49] Speaker 3: look back at your entire life and tell me how
[1:12:51] Speaker 3: many times God has let you down? Entire life. Yeah,
[1:12:58] Speaker 3: and if you really think of about that your future days,
[1:13:01] Speaker 3: you'd go.
[1:13:02] Speaker 5: Okay, even when I thought he let me down, even
[1:13:05] Speaker 5: when I thought I had failed, even when I thought
[1:13:07] Speaker 5: I had messed up, that was good for me so
[1:13:11] Speaker 5: that I can be in this position.
[1:13:12] Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, I learned so much in the things that
[1:13:15] Speaker 3: God didn't let me do. And when a door door
[1:13:18] Speaker 3: is closed, that is not a no. Yeah yeah, that
[1:13:21] Speaker 3: that is there's another way, that's another path. It's like
[1:13:24] Speaker 3: being an amazed when you hit that that brick wall.
[1:13:28] Speaker 3: You don't you don't stop, you could Okay, maybe I
[1:13:31] Speaker 3: gotta double back. I gotta go this way, I gotta
[1:13:32] Speaker 3: go this way, but you'll get there.
[1:13:34] Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, Wow, that's so good. And her last question
[1:13:37] Speaker 2: is how do I get myself to jump?
[1:13:39] Speaker 3: How do I get myself to jump? Yeah? By undoing
[1:13:44] Speaker 3: all of those voices that caused you to have those
[1:13:46] Speaker 3: few yes.
[1:13:47] Speaker 2: Yeah that's good. Wow. Well y'all heard it from the
[1:13:50] Speaker 2: man himself, like I ain't got nothing else to add
[1:13:53] Speaker 2: to that, that he broke that all the way down. Wow,
[1:13:56] Speaker 2: think that blessed me? My goodness, I only want to
[1:13:59] Speaker 2: look at the door. I know you cry. So the
[1:14:06] Speaker 2: next thing we do is what I'm going for.
[1:14:08] Speaker 3: I like that. Who go ahead, Darling.
[1:14:12] Speaker 1: This came from the daughter Gabana store and.
[1:14:18] Speaker 3: Darling was somewhere where Darling was.
[1:14:21] Speaker 1: Remember I had a rough nighted see, and I was
[1:14:24] Speaker 1: I couldn't get out to shop and my different Tyler.
[1:14:27] Speaker 2: Harry, that was a night I got you.
[1:14:28] Speaker 3: Yeah, send it to a make shift, make sure feel better.
[1:14:31] Speaker 2: I did. Immediately.
[1:14:32] Speaker 3: I was like, oh, I think I can get up
[1:14:35] Speaker 3: now a black car to make a girl get out
[1:14:40] Speaker 3: of the bed. She's like everything, that's so good.
[1:14:49] Speaker 1: So we also do what it's called what I'm going through,
[1:14:52] Speaker 1: what I'm growing through, and in this season of my life,
[1:14:55] Speaker 1: even based on things we've talked about, I am going through,
[1:14:59] Speaker 1: especially right now, want to strike just stretching my faith,
[1:15:05] Speaker 1: learning new things that I want to do and not
[1:15:07] Speaker 1: putting all my eggs in one basket and just having
[1:15:10] Speaker 1: faith that God.
[1:15:11] Speaker 2: Is going to move.
[1:15:12] Speaker 3: Is that going through and growing through?
[1:15:13] Speaker 1: This is what I'm going through? Yeah, right now, But
[1:15:15] Speaker 1: then I'm growing Yeah, I'm growing through.
[1:15:21] Speaker 2: Right now. I'm really growing through. And I feel like
[1:15:24] Speaker 2: this is always growing through, not like having control of
[1:15:27] Speaker 2: everything and a lot of things to just be, so
[1:15:29] Speaker 2: that'd be what I'm just letting go. Yeah, what about you?
[1:15:33] Speaker 2: Are you going through?
[1:15:34] Speaker 3: What I'm What I go through is just battling compassion
[1:15:37] Speaker 3: for deca. We talked as we talked about before and
[1:15:40] Speaker 3: understanding that that everybody's not going to get it, yeah,
[1:15:44] Speaker 3: and being okay with that. I still have to remind
[1:15:46] Speaker 3: myself of that. That's what I'm growing through, or I
[1:15:51] Speaker 3: would say going through. I'm actually pretty good. I'm really
[1:15:58] Speaker 3: really good right now. I've lived these fifty three years
[1:16:02] Speaker 3: and learned a lot of things, and all I want
[1:16:06] Speaker 3: to do at this point is just take this wisdom,
[1:16:10] Speaker 3: these things that I've learned, and share them with anybody
[1:16:14] Speaker 3: who wants to receive them. Take them. But I also
[1:16:18] Speaker 3: don't want to. Oh my god, the older you get,
[1:16:21] Speaker 3: I see some old people who just that they are
[1:16:23] Speaker 3: just impatient. The older you get is like, listen, I
[1:16:26] Speaker 3: have one friend I've been help trying to help for years.
[1:16:28] Speaker 3: I was like, We've been over this. I've told you
[1:16:30] Speaker 3: these things ten different times. Because I never say you
[1:16:32] Speaker 3: should do this, And when I'm giving advice, most times
[1:16:35] Speaker 3: I let people talk so they can hear themselves work
[1:16:38] Speaker 3: out the issues. But other times I'll say, well, if
[1:16:41] Speaker 3: I were in your shoes, if I were here is
[1:16:45] Speaker 3: my thinking on that. But after sharing and sharing and sharing, sharing,
[1:16:49] Speaker 3: and you still don't start making progress in that direction,
[1:16:53] Speaker 3: Like you're wasting my time because there's somebody else who
[1:16:55] Speaker 3: could be using this.
[1:16:56] Speaker 2: Figure it out. You take those nuggets you're giving in
[1:16:59] Speaker 2: at That's so true.
[1:17:01] Speaker 3: And anybody who can get to me what I mean
[1:17:04] Speaker 3: by that, it's like anybody who can get in my presence,
[1:17:06] Speaker 3: Like I'm I say this in the best way.
[1:17:09] Speaker 2: No, I know exactly what you mean.
[1:17:11] Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm Tyler Perry, you know. And I'm a loner
[1:17:14] Speaker 3: by nature. I like to be alone, and so when
[1:17:16] Speaker 3: people make their way into my life, I go, oh,
[1:17:19] Speaker 3: you are clearly somebody God has sent for me to
[1:17:23] Speaker 3: pay attention to because you broke through all of that
[1:17:26] Speaker 3: stuff and you're this close. Like, Okay, what am I
[1:17:29] Speaker 3: supposed to teach your guy? Can't be selfish, can't be
[1:17:33] Speaker 3: about you, no matter how tired exhausted. Here's a moment,
[1:17:38] Speaker 3: and because that moment may be something that saves or
[1:17:41] Speaker 3: changes that person's life.
[1:17:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a witness.
[1:17:44] Speaker 1: I'm a testimony, living proof example.
