This week I have the talented and fabulous Miss Lawrence on the couch. I knew we were going to kiki, but I had no idea that he was going to preach a good sermon. He reminds all of us to nurture the gifts that God gave us and to always be our authentic self. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

[0:09] Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to this episode of Keep It Positive. Sweetie.
[0:11] Speaker 1: I am Christahine Hazlet, and today we have with us
[0:15] Speaker 1: none other than miss Lawrence.
[0:20] Speaker 2: Thank you for having met.
[0:22] Speaker 1: No, Seriously, it's been a long time come.
[0:24] Speaker 2: We've been saying we're gonna figure out something, whether it
[0:26] Speaker 2: be lunch, whether it be a dinner or something, if
[0:29] Speaker 2: you haven't an event or if I'm having one, but
[0:31] Speaker 2: our schedules could never align. So you know, everything works
[0:35] Speaker 2: in divine order in time, and I think this is perfect.
[0:37] Speaker 1: Thank you so much. I'm so happy you're here. We
[0:40] Speaker 1: like to start the show with the song girl quote
[0:42] Speaker 1: And when I think of you, I think of authenticity.
[0:45] Speaker 1: You are just so authentically you and I love that.
[0:49] Speaker 1: And this quote says true belonging doesn't require you to
[0:52] Speaker 1: change who you are. It requires you to be who
[0:55] Speaker 1: you are. And I feel like that is exactly what
[0:57] Speaker 1: you embody like you are just who you are. You
[1:00] Speaker 1: see is what you get and people love you for that.
[1:02] Speaker 2: Thank you, Yes they do.
[1:05] Speaker 1: The first time I really like learned about you was
[1:09] Speaker 1: I'm not really a reality TV show person, but I
[1:11] Speaker 1: saw you on the show Star. Yes, I absolutely loved
[1:15] Speaker 1: you on start and then I don't know if you
[1:17] Speaker 1: remember this, but my friend Shavine, who.
[1:20] Speaker 2: Yes, that's my baby daughter, Yes.
[1:24] Speaker 1: Yes, So I came on set to see her and
[1:27] Speaker 1: you were walking with Queen Latifa and we stopped and
[1:29] Speaker 1: spoke for a second. This before we actually met at
[1:31] Speaker 1: Kim Blackwells event last year, the Gallentine's event, but that
[1:35] Speaker 1: was before we had met actually talked. So we like
[1:38] Speaker 1: spoke shortly and I was like, oh my god, I
[1:39] Speaker 1: love his energy. And then we met again at Kim
[1:43] Speaker 1: black Kim Blackwells.
[1:44] Speaker 2: Event at the Gallant Geos, and you know, I do
[1:48] Speaker 2: remember that, but I more so remember us talking a
[1:53] Speaker 2: little more in depth at the at the Sisters event.
[1:58] Speaker 1: Yes, remember that really really chat.
[2:01] Speaker 2: Yeah it was good.
[2:03] Speaker 1: I love that. So I would like to tell people
[2:05] Speaker 1: how we met. But I remember that, and ever since then,
[2:07] Speaker 1: we've chatted on Instagram and I keep up with you
[2:10] Speaker 1: on the on Interiram. What you have going on?
[2:12] Speaker 2: Thank you?
[2:13] Speaker 1: Yes, but we're so happy to have you here. And
[2:16] Speaker 1: everyone knows you from television and social media, but we
[2:19] Speaker 1: want to take it back and saying who was miss
[2:21] Speaker 1: Lawrence growing up? Where are you from? We want to
[2:23] Speaker 1: know all the.
[2:24] Speaker 2: Things I am a real, real Georgia Peach. Hey I
[2:28] Speaker 2: have I have labeled myself as the Atlanta Mother. I'm
[2:32] Speaker 2: born and raised right here in Atlanta, on the South
[2:34] Speaker 2: side of Atlanta. I'm from the South side of Atlanta.
[2:39] Speaker 2: Growing up, I was not Miss Lawrence. I was just
[2:42] Speaker 2: I was just Lawrence. You know, I'm a junior. People
[2:46] Speaker 2: always gag I'm a junior hunty By. Look. I just
[2:50] Speaker 2: told some about it the other last night. I was
[2:52] Speaker 2: somewhere that they said you were a junior. I said, yes, honey,
[2:54] Speaker 2: turns out I was a junior Missus. But yeah, you know,
[3:00] Speaker 2: life was it was good. It was interesting, but it
[3:04] Speaker 2: was good. I think the best part about me growing
[3:07] Speaker 2: up in Atlanta is that I did not have one
[3:10] Speaker 2: of those families that ostracized me for embracing the missus
[3:15] Speaker 2: and me, and I was able to just to just
[3:19] Speaker 2: be myself. But a lot of that came from my mother.
[3:23] Speaker 2: I would have to I would have to say, because
[3:24] Speaker 2: my mother her biggest teachings. And I think most you know, households,
[3:29] Speaker 2: especially in black culture, don't lie, don't tell. Don't lie,
[3:33] Speaker 2: whether it's did you did you get them chips out
[3:36] Speaker 2: the cabinet or did you pick this up that you
[3:38] Speaker 2: don't tell or don't you lie. But I applied that
[3:41] Speaker 2: principle in everything and everything, so I never knew how
[3:46] Speaker 2: to be, how to hide. I never knew how to
[3:51] Speaker 2: be something other than what I felt on the inside
[3:53] Speaker 2: because I was taught not to lie. Now, I don't
[3:56] Speaker 2: think my parents knew that that principle would apply in
[4:00] Speaker 2: that way. I don't think they knew that when I
[4:02] Speaker 2: went out side, even with them, whether we were going
[4:06] Speaker 2: to pick a dilly, going to Red Lobster for a birthday.
[4:09] Speaker 2: I don't think they knew that when they said, don't lie. Oh,
[4:12] Speaker 2: I'm putting this vasilina and it's gon serve as my
[4:15] Speaker 2: lip loss. I don't think they knew that. But again,
[4:19] Speaker 2: I was taught not to lie, and I literally, you know,
[4:24] Speaker 2: my journey as a as a as an adolescent, as
[4:28] Speaker 2: a teenager has been just that. I walked to the
[4:31] Speaker 2: beat of my own drum, and I walked and delivered
[4:34] Speaker 2: what I felt in the moment in the in the era.
[4:37] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's amazing. So what was it like when you
[4:41] Speaker 1: realize there's something different about me, not I'm not like
[4:45] Speaker 1: the other boys that I see on the playground, when
[4:47] Speaker 1: did you know, like John, you know.
[4:50] Speaker 2: I had cousins in them. They would remind me of that,
[4:52] Speaker 2: you know, well you know, you know some of my
[4:56] Speaker 2: you know, boy cousins, you know. But jokingly it was
[5:00] Speaker 2: all loved, you know, you know, of course, you you
[5:03] Speaker 2: know I got teased, you know, in school. I was
[5:08] Speaker 2: never bullied. Thought, I have to say, I was never bullied,
[5:11] Speaker 2: but you know, we get teased and you know, stuff
[5:14] Speaker 2: like that. So I knew. I knew then that, you know,
[5:17] Speaker 2: I was not something that society was used to or
[5:19] Speaker 2: that society necessarily wanted to see. But again, I didn't
[5:24] Speaker 2: know any other way to be when you like, early honey,
[5:31] Speaker 2: because I was always the dancer. I will always dance,
[5:34] Speaker 2: and I always do the latest dances, the uh, the
[5:37] Speaker 2: cabbage Patch, the all those. So I will always be
[5:40] Speaker 2: the one like, oh, come come dance. And they would
[5:42] Speaker 2: just fall out because it was always so gay, you know,
[5:45] Speaker 2: it was always so you know. And yeah, so I
[5:49] Speaker 2: was young. I was young. I don't not even a
[5:53] Speaker 2: teenager yet. Wow, yeah, yeah, not even a teenager yet.
[5:56] Speaker 2: And my parents, Lord, they tried they bands. They they
[5:58] Speaker 2: had me play football, they had put me in the
[6:02] Speaker 2: boys scouts, all of it worked. All of it. They tried,
[6:04] Speaker 2: they tried everything, you know. But see when I started,
[6:08] Speaker 2: when I played football, I became really good at it
[6:13] Speaker 2: because and me and my friend we just talked about
[6:15] Speaker 2: this yesterday. I'm going to be good at whatever it
[6:19] Speaker 2: is that I do, because you know that's it's no
[6:22] Speaker 2: other way. If I end up committing to something, I'm
[6:25] Speaker 2: going to give it my all and whether I like
[6:27] Speaker 2: it or not. I didn't want to play football, but
[6:30] Speaker 2: I became good at it so much so that the
[6:32] Speaker 2: coach reached out to my father the following season was like,
[6:36] Speaker 2: we want to have him back as quarterback. I. Oh,
[6:38] Speaker 2: I'm not doing it again. I'm not doing that again.
[6:41] Speaker 2: Y'all tried it one time. I'm still a sissy. It
[6:44] Speaker 2: didn't work.
[6:46] Speaker 1: So what did you enjoy as a kid.
[6:49] Speaker 2: I'd always love the arts. I loved singing, I love
[6:54] Speaker 2: playing dress up. Yeah, stuff like that.
[6:58] Speaker 1: Okay, So when you said I don't want to do
[7:00] Speaker 1: this anymore, what did your dad say?
[7:03] Speaker 2: Oh? I mean, I you know, I think he was like, okay,
[7:07] Speaker 2: this ain't you know, this ain't working. But again, there
[7:09] Speaker 2: was no there was no harshness. Yeah that was that
[7:14] Speaker 2: was no hard. I mean, don't get me wrong, we
[7:16] Speaker 2: had moments that did not feel good, you know. But
[7:21] Speaker 2: the older I got, the more I looked into why
[7:25] Speaker 2: we are the way we are as black people, as
[7:27] Speaker 2: black families and are discontent. I understood their position and
[7:34] Speaker 2: the lack of knowledge around acceptance, and that helped me
[7:39] Speaker 2: to heal any wounds from that period of my life.
[7:46] Speaker 1: Could you tell, because I do want to expand on
[7:49] Speaker 1: that because I know there are some younger men right
[7:51] Speaker 1: now going through that same thing and trying to navigate
[7:54] Speaker 1: that with their parents. Would you share, like some of
[7:57] Speaker 1: those tough moments and like how you actually navigated do
[8:00] Speaker 1: that and he'll do that?
[8:01] Speaker 2: You know what I'm going to tell you. I kind
[8:04] Speaker 2: of delved into my purpose, right, So going back, I said,
[8:12] Speaker 2: I always love the artists. I love singing, I love
[8:15] Speaker 2: you know, the performing art, dancing, all that kind of stuff.
[8:18] Speaker 2: So going into my mid to late teens, I became
[8:25] Speaker 2: a hairstylist early, at like age fifteen years old because
[8:28] Speaker 2: I was really good with my hands, and I always
[8:30] Speaker 2: loved beauty, and I'm in particular I love black women
[8:33] Speaker 2: and beauty, right, all things beauty, and I became really, really,
[8:40] Speaker 2: really good at it, and in my late teens early twenties,
[8:45] Speaker 2: I started making some really good money. And because I
[8:50] Speaker 2: felt like in my mind, I had to show my
[8:52] Speaker 2: parents that the idea that they had are the ideals
[8:56] Speaker 2: that have been put out there about black career people,
[8:59] Speaker 2: about about black gay men or flamboyantly black gay men,
[9:03] Speaker 2: that we won't be successful or that we won't have
[9:06] Speaker 2: a fair shot at life was not true. And so
[9:11] Speaker 2: I became really really successful at an early age. And
[9:15] Speaker 2: I think that's when a lot of the you know,
[9:18] Speaker 2: the barriers broke. As it relates to my relationship with
[9:22] Speaker 2: my family. Now, a lot of damage had already been done,
[9:26] Speaker 2: kind of a lot of unspoken stuff. There was always
[9:29] Speaker 2: an elephant in the room. There was always a lack
[9:31] Speaker 2: of communication, not knowing how to have that real conversation
[9:35] Speaker 2: about the birds and the bees, because it's like, how
[9:38] Speaker 2: do I have that conversation with my gay child? But
[9:40] Speaker 2: I know nothing about gay sex or anything like that
[9:43] Speaker 2: about that. But I later learned that it's not we
[9:48] Speaker 2: put we make it hard. If it's a conversation about sex,
[9:53] Speaker 2: it's a conversation about sex, whether it's gay or not,
[9:55] Speaker 2: whether a person is you know, same gender loving or not.
[10:00] Speaker 2: The conversation about is about sex.
[10:02] Speaker 3: You know.
[10:03] Speaker 2: But to their defense, they didn't know that. They didn't
[10:06] Speaker 2: know that. So a lot of hard conversations that a
[10:10] Speaker 2: person would typically have with their parents, I didn't necessarily
[10:15] Speaker 2: get that because they didn't know how. They didn't know how,
[10:18] Speaker 2: And that's okay. And that is when I leaned to
[10:21] Speaker 2: my friends in the streets, my sisters and my brothers
[10:28] Speaker 2: that are also a part of the LGBTQ community that
[10:31] Speaker 2: I now call my chosen family. That's what chosen family
[10:33] Speaker 2: comes from. When you don't get all of the you know,
[10:39] Speaker 2: I guess the emotional support that you might need at
[10:41] Speaker 2: home are the emotional intelligence that you need from your family.
[10:46] Speaker 2: You venture out and you find like minded people, people
[10:49] Speaker 2: that can tell you, no, you are a spot on
[10:51] Speaker 2: with who you are. And it's those people that added
[10:55] Speaker 2: a lot of growth factors to me. Now a lot
[10:58] Speaker 2: of my foundation again, relationship with God, my commitment to
[11:03] Speaker 2: working and providing for myself, having stability and structure. I
[11:08] Speaker 2: did get that from my parents.
[11:09] Speaker 1: Gotcha, okay. I love that we talked about your relationship
[11:13] Speaker 1: with God. I know a lot of times there is
[11:17] Speaker 1: a lot of stimulations when it comes to church and
[11:19] Speaker 1: the homosexual community. I had went to a church before
[11:22] Speaker 1: it was here in Atlanta, and the pastor like spoke
[11:26] Speaker 1: out against homosexuality and how he did not agree with it.
[11:30] Speaker 1: And then the moment that I ended up leaving the
[11:33] Speaker 1: church was when because it made a little uncofortable because
[11:35] Speaker 1: feel like we're supposed to love everyone, no matter their choices,
[11:38] Speaker 1: because God told us to lead with love. We talked
[11:39] Speaker 1: about that last night, leading with love, like you do
[11:42] Speaker 1: what you want to do. I'm not here to judge you.
[11:44] Speaker 1: Only God can do yes and lead with that. And
[11:49] Speaker 1: this homosex, I mean he was clearly a homosexual man
[11:54] Speaker 1: had coming to the church. He was sitting on the
[11:56] Speaker 1: front row, like where like the deacons and the you know,
[11:59] Speaker 1: the mother of the church was sitting.
[12:00] Speaker 2: I was like, nah, he did that on purpose, But
[12:02] Speaker 2: go ahead.
[12:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, sos know what had happened was when you ended
[12:05] Speaker 1: up finding out because the pastor had to like get
[12:07] Speaker 1: up in front of the church and like admit what
[12:09] Speaker 1: had happened. This man had like said he was going
[12:11] Speaker 1: to give the church all this money, and that completely
[12:14] Speaker 1: termine I said, so you'll accept him for who he
[12:16] Speaker 1: is because he's gonna give the church all this money.
[12:18] Speaker 1: And that was my ex I was like, it's time
[12:20] Speaker 1: for me to leave, because you not a couple of
[12:22] Speaker 1: months ago you were preaching against it, but because you.
[12:25] Speaker 2: Wasn't using the girls some months ago. But now the
[12:27] Speaker 2: girls came with some coins and now, oh, you sit
[12:29] Speaker 2: right here next to mother medi exact.
[12:32] Speaker 1: Yeah, Beverly, yep.
[12:37] Speaker 2: But a few months ago you you did that.
[12:40] Speaker 1: Yeah, And I was like, wow.
[12:42] Speaker 2: I went to a church here, I used to. I
[12:43] Speaker 2: grew up in church. I sang in choir is all
[12:45] Speaker 2: that and the well, I started going to one church
[12:51] Speaker 2: that I was not activing. I just went. I just
[12:53] Speaker 2: went to the church, and I was going faithfully. And
[12:57] Speaker 2: it was a mega church. And I remember the pastor
[13:00] Speaker 2: giving like this whole sermon against or condemning homosexuality, and
[13:06] Speaker 2: I was like what, So I got up and left
[13:08] Speaker 2: in the middle of service. I got up be there.
[13:09] Speaker 2: I was done too. I had to. I was fendy
[13:11] Speaker 2: head to tee. It was beat. But anyway, I grew
[13:14] Speaker 2: up like that. I watched my grandmother go to church
[13:16] Speaker 2: and she was always done. So you put the clothes,
[13:19] Speaker 2: you put your clothes on the go to church anyway.
[13:21] Speaker 2: So I got up and left, and I didn't go
[13:22] Speaker 2: to church for years, and I mean for years after it,
[13:26] Speaker 2: because honestly, I didn't feel like I had to, right
[13:30] Speaker 2: because I knew God for myself, and I knew God
[13:32] Speaker 2: was in me, and I always did his work. I
[13:36] Speaker 2: always walked in his wheel. And another principle is that
[13:42] Speaker 2: you are judged on how you serve. Did you give
[13:46] Speaker 2: your brother on your sister, all the mothers and fathers
[13:50] Speaker 2: food when they were hungry, clothes when they were naked,
[13:53] Speaker 2: a water when they was thirsty. I can check all
[13:56] Speaker 2: those boxes. Yes, I didn't have to go to church.
[13:59] Speaker 2: I felt like, I was like, I don't need I
[14:00] Speaker 2: don't know, because I'm not gonna sit there and allow
[14:04] Speaker 2: that to fester up inside of me. What I know
[14:08] Speaker 2: Him for myself. So I don't need to hear man's
[14:12] Speaker 2: perception of what God is and what and how what
[14:15] Speaker 2: God thinks about me, because I already know for myself.
[14:18] Speaker 2: So I left church, and I left for a very
[14:20] Speaker 2: long time, and a few of my friends, two of
[14:24] Speaker 2: them in particular, was started. They joined this one church
[14:28] Speaker 2: and they said you should really come. I was like,
[14:30] Speaker 2: I'm not gonna know, because I had, I had given
[14:32] Speaker 2: up singing in a choir and all of that, because
[14:35] Speaker 2: by this time I was full. I was in full bloom, honey,
[14:38] Speaker 2: I was. I was in for I had done gave
[14:41] Speaker 2: up the suits and stuff. I was in full bloom
[14:43] Speaker 2: blouses and things. I said, I ain't singing in a
[14:46] Speaker 2: choir no more clearly, because you know, so I had
[14:51] Speaker 2: let that. I had let all that go. So I
[14:53] Speaker 2: was like, it's no need for me to go not
[14:55] Speaker 2: going to church. I know the word, I know God.
[14:56] Speaker 2: I do what God asks, you know, on him. My
[15:00] Speaker 2: other my father da da Da da da. And they said, no,
[15:02] Speaker 2: but you should, really, you should just just come. So
[15:05] Speaker 2: I went to a church here in Atlanta, the Vision Church,
[15:12] Speaker 2: and I fell completely in love. My bishop is from
[15:17] Speaker 2: the LGBTQ community. We have a first gentleman. And it
[15:22] Speaker 2: literally opened up a whole new portal of teachings that
[15:26] Speaker 2: I would not have gotten had I not gone back
[15:28] Speaker 2: to church. You know, new principles that I now applied
[15:31] Speaker 2: to this day, you know, along my walk and my journey.
[15:34] Speaker 2: So you know, I tell people that have experienced church,
[15:39] Speaker 2: especially within my community, the black LGBTQ space is you know,
[15:45] Speaker 2: let's not lean to the church or lean to man.
[15:48] Speaker 2: Let's lean more on our relationship with God, and let's
[15:52] Speaker 2: ask God for discernment to lead you to the proper teacher.
[15:56] Speaker 1: Come on now to the proper teacher.
[15:59] Speaker 2: Yes, and that's what happened for me.
[16:01] Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah, Lawrence, I love that because I feel like
[16:05] Speaker 1: anyone in the faith can really like agree with and
[16:09] Speaker 1: identify with what you're saying, because I've had church herd.
[16:12] Speaker 1: I've had and I've been guilty of like putting faith
[16:15] Speaker 1: in the person and really connecting with the person that's
[16:17] Speaker 1: delivering the word and forgetting this is a human being. Yeah,
[16:20] Speaker 1: you know, and a lot of people can't church her
[16:22] Speaker 1: from just like, well, he shouldn't be in the public
[16:24] Speaker 1: because he's doing this and this and this. And it
[16:26] Speaker 1: was Tyler that actually had to check me. He was like, Crystal,
[16:28] Speaker 1: you're not there for the man. You're there for God.
[16:32] Speaker 2: Because that man, like you said, that man is human
[16:34] Speaker 2: as well as that man could be in spiritual warfare.
[16:39] Speaker 2: That man could be battling stuff himself.
[16:41] Speaker 1: Yes, he's not exempt.
[16:42] Speaker 2: He's not exempt. He could be preaching, but preaching to
[16:46] Speaker 2: himself in that moment. You know what I'm saying. And
[16:49] Speaker 2: so when I got up and left out the church,
[16:51] Speaker 2: I wasn't judging him. I just knew that he wasn't
[16:55] Speaker 2: the teacher for me, right, I knew that he needed
[16:58] Speaker 2: a teacher.
[16:59] Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, oh my goodness, that is so good. I
[17:05] Speaker 1: love that and I love that you have found a home.
[17:07] Speaker 1: I did not know that church existed.
[17:09] Speaker 2: Oh it's everything. Yeah, yeah, it's progressive Pentecosta. So they
[17:13] Speaker 2: jump and flip and run around birdie ya. They can say,
[17:21] Speaker 2: they can say it's a oh it's it's a beautiful
[17:27] Speaker 2: Now girl, you ain't felt no spirits. But I love it.
[17:32] Speaker 2: I love I love the antics, I love all of it.
[17:36] Speaker 1: That is amazing. I really want the Christian community for
[17:42] Speaker 1: sure to just leave with love, you know, and I
[17:45] Speaker 1: think that is so important.
[17:46] Speaker 2: They're supposed to do. But you know what they a
[17:47] Speaker 2: lot of them have not done. It's studied the book
[17:53] Speaker 2: for themselves. They they've not studied where the book came from.
[18:00] Speaker 2: The different versions of the book came from. One of
[18:03] Speaker 2: my friends mother always says, study and show thy self,
[18:09] Speaker 2: well that's written, but she always reiterated study and show
[18:13] Speaker 2: thy self approved. See the problem is so many people
[18:15] Speaker 2: have been listening to man, meaning our bishops in our pastor,
[18:18] Speaker 2: and they are chosen. They are chosen. I'm not going
[18:21] Speaker 2: to say that they're not. They are chosen, you know.
[18:24] Speaker 2: But you still have to study and show thy self.
[18:27] Speaker 2: You go study for yourself, because they might what they're
[18:31] Speaker 2: studying and what they get from it is what the
[18:33] Speaker 2: Holy Spirit gave them. But all of our connections, all
[18:38] Speaker 2: of our connections are personal. I might get something from
[18:42] Speaker 2: reading one scripture that you might not get. You might
[18:45] Speaker 2: get something totally separate. That's how the Holy Spirit talks
[18:47] Speaker 2: to us, is, you know. And so for that reason,
[18:50] Speaker 2: I can now sit in the church and I say
[18:53] Speaker 2: I didn't get that from right, and that's okay. But
[18:57] Speaker 2: a lot of our Christian community, uh, they've not done that.
[19:02] Speaker 2: They've leaned solely on what they have heard and what
[19:05] Speaker 2: they've been taught, opposed to listening to the teachings and
[19:08] Speaker 2: then going back and studying yourself. It's no different than
[19:10] Speaker 2: what you do in school. It's no different than what
[19:12] Speaker 2: you do when you study for your doctorate or your masters,
[19:15] Speaker 2: are your bachelors. I have neither one of those, by
[19:17] Speaker 2: the way, but I know the process exactly.
[19:22] Speaker 1: That is so good, Pastor Darius Daniels. I go to
[19:25] Speaker 1: Change Church.
[19:26] Speaker 2: I love that church. I went there. I wouldn't there
[19:29] Speaker 2: with Carlton my friend.
[19:31] Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean your other friend.
[19:34] Speaker 2: Y'all would together.
[19:36] Speaker 1: Y'all went together.
[19:38] Speaker 2: He took, he took.
[19:41] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I came.
[19:47] Speaker 4: Crowd.
[19:47] Speaker 1: Yes, okay, amazing. Yeah, I love my church. But we
[19:51] Speaker 1: did a whole series on God did not say that,
[19:54] Speaker 1: and we literally went through scripch and broke it down
[19:57] Speaker 1: and like even like how we pray and the things
[19:59] Speaker 1: that we've been tak all of our lives, we're like,
[20:01] Speaker 1: wait a minute, that's not what God intended. And then
[20:04] Speaker 1: we're going through the scripture, like wait a minute, God.
[20:07] Speaker 2: And you like they so wrong. But imagine now listen,
[20:12] Speaker 2: that's one congregation. Imagine the thousands of black churches. And
[20:20] Speaker 2: we wonder why we still to this day can't get
[20:23] Speaker 2: on one a call as brothers and sisters. Yeah, it's
[20:26] Speaker 2: a lot of unlearning and unpacking and rebuilding and bridge
[20:30] Speaker 2: building that we have to do. And so when you
[20:33] Speaker 2: when you discover these things, or when you've been given
[20:36] Speaker 2: discernment and you know it is now our responsibility. It
[20:43] Speaker 2: is not our responsibility. Even when it's uncomfortable. Even when
[20:46] Speaker 2: I have to try my best to foster a relationship
[20:50] Speaker 2: with a black straight man who has been extremely antithetical
[20:55] Speaker 2: to a black gay person. I have to look beyond
[20:59] Speaker 2: that and be willing to teach yes, wow, because that
[21:04] Speaker 2: is what also serving. Listen right, what is it he's like?
[21:17] Speaker 1: My cast.
[21:19] Speaker 2: Is, Lady law.
[21:25] Speaker 5: I have to say, I'm bumked out right now as
[21:29] Speaker 5: you've kept speaking thinking about like how.
[21:33] Speaker 4: So many churches will kick.
[21:36] Speaker 5: L g B t Q people out, but I'm so
[21:40] Speaker 5: happy that there's a home for them at Vision and
[21:43] Speaker 5: at turches like.
[21:44] Speaker 4: That, because again, the command is to love.
[21:48] Speaker 5: Why would you think that God doesn't want to have
[21:51] Speaker 5: like the up the righteous Christian thinks that you don't
[21:54] Speaker 5: deserve a home, You don't deserve a.
[21:56] Speaker 4: Church home, so we're gonna kick you out.
[21:58] Speaker 2: That in itself is a complete contrast yes to what
[22:03] Speaker 2: God is.
[22:03] Speaker 5: Yes, Like, why would you think that God does not
[22:07] Speaker 5: want relationship with you?
[22:08] Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying.
[22:11] Speaker 2: It's so crazy to me because.
[22:13] Speaker 4: We need that pastor on here because.
[22:15] Speaker 2: We Yeah, Bishop O and I connect y'all because the
[22:20] Speaker 2: reality is God uses every ready, Yes, and people would want.
[22:28] Speaker 4: To condemn the pastor.
[22:31] Speaker 5: That's that's gay welcoming, instead of focusing on the fact
[22:35] Speaker 5: that that the same community that you guys feel are
[22:38] Speaker 5: is so wrong.
[22:38] Speaker 4: It's still finding God, which is still the biggest goal. Yes, yes, please.
[22:46] Speaker 3: I would just say when you talk about setting and
[22:48] Speaker 3: showed that self approved once again, it is he falling
[22:52] Speaker 3: in love with the traditions of men. So when you
[22:55] Speaker 3: talk about if you're not approved for something that bean
[22:58] Speaker 3: you in the nod right now situation, the decline situations
[23:01] Speaker 3: because you haven't shown up for.
[23:03] Speaker 4: Who you are and whose you are, come on, you
[23:06] Speaker 4: know I can touch on that. And that's what you.
[23:12] Speaker 3: Mean by studying and show got something for yourself.
[23:16] Speaker 4: And see what it is.
[23:17] Speaker 2: So when you think.
[23:17] Speaker 3: About the interpretation and you're falling in love with God
[23:20] Speaker 3: for who he is when he's done in your.
[23:22] Speaker 4: Life, that's.
[23:29] Speaker 2: See see what I'm saying. But you know, it's like
[23:34] Speaker 2: Jesus went out and set amongst the people.
[23:38] Speaker 1: The people.
[23:41] Speaker 2: He went instead amongst the people because it was the
[23:43] Speaker 2: people that was gonna go out and do the work
[23:46] Speaker 2: for him.
[23:47] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, oh my gosh, yeah, yeah, A murder and
[23:54] Speaker 1: kill people and we over here judging somebody for loving somebody.
[23:58] Speaker 2: Can go down the list and they were all.
[24:02] Speaker 1: Yes, every last one of them. So who are we
[24:07] Speaker 1: to judge? Who are we to judge when God chose?
[24:12] Speaker 1: Like he said, I want y'all, Oh, this is so good.
[24:15] Speaker 1: Something else I want to talk about now that we're on,
[24:17] Speaker 1: like the judgment and there's so much discrimination, like on
[24:20] Speaker 1: social media and people trying to expose people in Adam.
[24:24] Speaker 1: I was having this conversation with my brother Marquis. We're like,
[24:26] Speaker 1: it's nobody's business, Like, why are you so worried about
[24:29] Speaker 1: what somebody else is doing?
[24:31] Speaker 2: It's so sad, And I just I'm like, why are
[24:35] Speaker 2: we going backwards?
[24:36] Speaker 1: Man?
[24:37] Speaker 2: Why are we going backwards? There is so much work
[24:41] Speaker 2: that has to be done with us in our culture,
[24:49] Speaker 2: in our community. First of all, let us pay attention
[24:54] Speaker 2: to that thing that phone.
[24:59] Speaker 6: Oh my goodness, that tool social media, and how if
[25:06] Speaker 6: we have allowed it to be the thing to weaponize
[25:09] Speaker 6: us and our relationship with each other.
[25:13] Speaker 2: And I have my theory that that is exactly what
[25:15] Speaker 2: it was intended for, because we've all heard that saying
[25:20] Speaker 2: that you know, history repeats, everything that goes around comes around.
[25:26] Speaker 2: It's just it just looks different. Now if you go
[25:30] Speaker 2: back to, you know, when they try to cause division
[25:37] Speaker 2: amongst us with classism, yes, and black families. You know,
[25:44] Speaker 2: you had the upperly mobile negroes, and then you had
[25:46] Speaker 2: the negroes in the hood. You know, you can't sit
[25:51] Speaker 2: with us, you can. Social media has become that exact
[25:54] Speaker 2: same thing, and we are disproportionately as Black people affected
[25:59] Speaker 2: by it. And it is so easy to use homophobia
[26:06] Speaker 2: as one of the greatest tools to conquer and divide us.
[26:10] Speaker 2: While we are on the precipice of another presidential election,
[26:15] Speaker 2: you know, while we are still fighting for women's rights,
[26:21] Speaker 2: while we are still fighting to make sure that our
[26:24] Speaker 2: black brothers and our black fathers, and our black sons
[26:31] Speaker 2: have the protection and the support that they need from
[26:35] Speaker 2: social injustices, police injustices, you name it. All of these
[26:41] Speaker 2: things that we should be standing as a united front for.
[26:46] Speaker 2: We can't do it because we are so distracted by
[26:49] Speaker 2: this little thing in our hand and somebody's weird, negative,
[26:55] Speaker 2: ill informed opinion about someone's sexuality and who they choose
[27:01] Speaker 2: to love or lay down with. You know, And I
[27:04] Speaker 2: don't know, I don't know how to get I don't
[27:10] Speaker 2: know when we will all get on one accord and
[27:13] Speaker 2: trying to fix that for myself. During the pandemic, I
[27:17] Speaker 2: started having these dinners called Plated Purpose. Miss Lawrence Presents
[27:23] Speaker 2: played it purpose and it was created to bridge the
[27:26] Speaker 2: gap between the black straight community and the black LGBTQ community.
[27:33] Speaker 2: And it started for several reasons. One, when I was
[27:36] Speaker 2: a hairstyleist before I retired, one of my long term
[27:41] Speaker 2: clients told me that, you know, one of her sons
[27:44] Speaker 2: was gay. That I had never heard about him, but
[27:48] Speaker 2: I knew some of her other kids. I never knew
[27:50] Speaker 2: about that one. And I said, oh, I never met him.
[27:52] Speaker 2: She said, yeah, well he doesn't talk to us. And
[27:54] Speaker 2: I'm saying, oh, okay, And I said well, she said,
[27:58] Speaker 2: I don't know. He won't talk to us us. And
[28:01] Speaker 2: I said, well, did you all ever make him feel
[28:03] Speaker 2: a certain type of way, you know? And she said no, no,
[28:07] Speaker 2: you know, it wasn't an intention. When he was younger,
[28:10] Speaker 2: she said, we would try and buy them little trucks
[28:12] Speaker 2: and shit, but you know, and she said, we didn't
[28:15] Speaker 2: know what to do with him.
[28:16] Speaker 1: We didn't know what to do.
[28:17] Speaker 2: Wow, I And she was broken. Here's someone in their
[28:23] Speaker 2: late sixties going into their seventies and she's broken because
[28:31] Speaker 2: she does not have wholeness in her family because of
[28:37] Speaker 2: a construct that shouldn't be there. And I told her,
[28:41] Speaker 2: I said, well, what happens is when you all lack
[28:46] Speaker 2: the emotional intelligence to support your child because they are gay,
[28:52] Speaker 2: are gay presenting or transpresenting or whatever, whatever, anything that
[28:56] Speaker 2: doesn't align with what you think value are well, what
[29:02] Speaker 2: you think how they're supposed to go, and you don't
[29:04] Speaker 2: know how to show up for them emotionally and support
[29:06] Speaker 2: them mentally. I said, when they become of age and
[29:10] Speaker 2: they go outside, they go find it somewhere else, And
[29:13] Speaker 2: that is where chosen families come from. And so they
[29:16] Speaker 2: go find the support that they need. God gives them
[29:19] Speaker 2: what they need. Maybe you couldn't give it. Maybe God
[29:22] Speaker 2: couldn't use you because you wouldn't allow him to use
[29:25] Speaker 2: you to show up for that baby the way that
[29:27] Speaker 2: you should have. But God placed it on somebody else
[29:30] Speaker 2: and he got it, so there is now no need
[29:33] Speaker 2: for you all. So that is where the absence come from.
[29:37] Speaker 2: And when I saw the hurt in her eyes, I
[29:42] Speaker 2: could feel her pain and I said, it's so unfair
[29:48] Speaker 2: because it's not your fault and it's not his fault
[29:52] Speaker 2: and we just got to communicate that. We got to
[29:57] Speaker 2: we have to both understand on both have to understand
[30:01] Speaker 2: where we have our faults and the part that we
[30:04] Speaker 2: played in it. That was one thing. Another thing was
[30:10] Speaker 2: the whole thing about when the baby, the rapper the baby,
[30:16] Speaker 2: when he had his whole debacle about the what they
[30:21] Speaker 2: called the homophobic slur, homophobic comment or whatever that was made.
[30:27] Speaker 2: And in my opinion, when I went and listened to
[30:30] Speaker 2: it carefully, and I did not hear him use, I
[30:36] Speaker 2: did not hear him use the F word. I didn't
[30:40] Speaker 2: hear him call anybody ASSISSI. I didn't hear I didn't
[30:43] Speaker 2: hear any of that. I did hear exactly what he said.
[30:47] Speaker 2: And he said put your phones or light your phones
[30:49] Speaker 2: or whatever if you ain't not here, giving nobody aids
[30:54] Speaker 2: if you ain't got aids, which is very wrong to say,
[30:57] Speaker 2: because that is something that affects all of us, not gay,
[31:03] Speaker 2: not straight, but everybody, but everybody. Now, his DJ said
[31:07] Speaker 2: some homophobius, but he himself did not. However, when it
[31:12] Speaker 2: came out the baby getting canceled for homophobics, and I said, no, no, no, mm,
[31:18] Speaker 2: who's putting that out there? Yeah, because that's not what
[31:21] Speaker 2: I heard. Now, what he said was really wrong.
[31:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, it was terrible, poor judgment and definitely shouldn't.
[31:28] Speaker 2: And if you, if you, if you look closely, if somebody,
[31:34] Speaker 2: if he was getting canceled for homophobic remarks or slurs,
[31:40] Speaker 2: wouldn't every rapper from back in the day be canceled, every.
[31:43] Speaker 1: One of 'em?
[31:45] Speaker 2: So how was he? What was No? What it was
[31:50] Speaker 2: was that you said something by HIV and AIDS and
[31:53] Speaker 2: that not only affects the black people, it affect the
[31:55] Speaker 2: white people too.
[31:59] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[32:00] Speaker 2: And so when you looked at the people that spoke
[32:03] Speaker 2: out about it, yes, when you saw Elton John, when
[32:08] Speaker 2: you saw Madonna, when you saw them speak out. Now
[32:13] Speaker 2: he's canceled, But our black brothers and sisters, they perceived
[32:20] Speaker 2: it as, oh, the gay community canceling our straight brother
[32:25] Speaker 2: because he said. So that's not what happened, but that's
[32:28] Speaker 2: how it was put out there, which caused further division.
[32:33] Speaker 2: And so that was another thing. And I got on
[32:35] Speaker 2: the phone with my dear friend April Ryan, and I said,
[32:41] Speaker 2: we got to figure something out. We got to have
[32:44] Speaker 2: a family meeting, because what's happening is happening on purpose,
[32:52] Speaker 2: and somebody got to gotta educate and matriculate us on
[32:56] Speaker 2: each other on what's going on. And so it had
[32:59] Speaker 2: just been sitting on me and sitting on me, like
[33:01] Speaker 2: what you know? What can I do? And I'm only
[33:03] Speaker 2: one person, but somebody got to start somewhere. Yeah, And
[33:06] Speaker 2: I'm not saying that I'm the first to start it.
[33:08] Speaker 2: I don't know. I knew I had to do what
[33:10] Speaker 2: I felt on my spirit, and I was like, what
[33:12] Speaker 2: can I do? I gotta figure out something. And I
[33:16] Speaker 2: have a very close friend of shawna Ayres, and I
[33:19] Speaker 2: was talking to her. She's like, we want to do
[33:20] Speaker 2: something about it. What are you gonna do something about it?
[33:22] Speaker 2: Because I be in arguments with her some of my
[33:24] Speaker 2: other straight friends They're like, well no, well no, because
[33:27] Speaker 2: the gay community y'all already got there. I was like, no,
[33:29] Speaker 2: don't do the y'all thing. Don't do the y'all thing.
[33:34] Speaker 2: We don't everybody don't fit under that rainbow umbrella. Know
[33:40] Speaker 2: who that umbrella was designed for. And you will discover
[33:45] Speaker 2: you would discover a lot of bifurcation there. You would
[33:49] Speaker 2: discover a lot of separatism there. You will discover that
[33:55] Speaker 2: a lot of your black gay brothers and sisters is
[33:58] Speaker 2: left on the outside of the umbrella. We don't have
[34:00] Speaker 2: full full protection like people think we do. Again, we
[34:04] Speaker 2: are not a monolithic group. And she said, Okay, what
[34:06] Speaker 2: are you gonna do? Figure out something? I myself, I
[34:08] Speaker 2: want to maybe I need to have maybe let me
[34:10] Speaker 2: figure out something because I have been put in a
[34:14] Speaker 2: position where I know the language of both sides. I
[34:17] Speaker 2: was a hairstylist for twenty years every and I was
[34:21] Speaker 2: able to live a very good life for myself because
[34:25] Speaker 2: of Black women that allowed me to be in service
[34:29] Speaker 2: to them at an early age. When society told me
[34:33] Speaker 2: I would not have a lovely home to live in
[34:36] Speaker 2: or I would not be able to do this or
[34:38] Speaker 2: do that, God say yes you will, and I'm gonna
[34:42] Speaker 2: use these sisters to make sure it happens. And in return,
[34:46] Speaker 2: you're gonna edify them, You're gonna affirm them. And so
[34:50] Speaker 2: that is what our relationship has always been. Like myself
[34:53] Speaker 2: with black women, and for every black woman that sat
[34:55] Speaker 2: in my chair, that was a whole family that I
[34:58] Speaker 2: got to touch, including their husbands, including their children. Ye,
[35:04] Speaker 2: so I understand the language of both sides. And then
[35:07] Speaker 2: when I go over on this side to my community,
[35:12] Speaker 2: my people, my oyster's, my village, y, my black LGBTQ
[35:15] Speaker 2: brothers and sisters. And I understand their frustrations what they
[35:18] Speaker 2: might not have been, you know, as fortunate to have
[35:22] Speaker 2: the type of relationships that I've had with with with
[35:25] Speaker 2: heterosexual people are straight people. I know their language too, yeah,
[35:30] Speaker 2: because it is also my language. And I said, well,
[35:33] Speaker 2: I'm in a position where I could bring it together
[35:36] Speaker 2: and let's try to fix this. Y. And so my
[35:40] Speaker 2: friend and Shanna said, well, do something so fast forward.
[35:43] Speaker 2: I said, I'm gonna do a dinner. I'm'a do a dinner.
[35:47] Speaker 2: I'm invite maybe ten people from the black LGBTQ community,
[35:51] Speaker 2: ten from the the t black straight community. I reached
[35:54] Speaker 2: out to Ingrid best. You know Ingrid, right, I love Ingrid.
[35:58] Speaker 2: Have to shout her. I love Ingriand at that time,
[36:01] Speaker 2: she was head of marketing for Sarah and I asked her,
[36:06] Speaker 2: I said there. I sent her a text and I said,
[36:10] Speaker 2: we are approaching Black Pride Month in Atlanta. I said,
[36:15] Speaker 2: during Pride Month, during Pride Month in June, we're approaching
[36:20] Speaker 2: Black Pride weekend in Atlanta. However, in June it's Pride
[36:24] Speaker 2: Month and you have a there's an outpouring of brands
[36:30] Speaker 2: that support Pride Month, but if you go and take
[36:32] Speaker 2: inventory of who benefits. At that time, we were very
[36:39] Speaker 2: far in few between when I mean black LGBTQ people,
[36:43] Speaker 2: and I said, I would love for a black founded
[36:46] Speaker 2: liquor brand to support Black Pride in Atlanta. I want
[36:51] Speaker 2: to host an event. I want to put together an
[36:53] Speaker 2: event to bridge the gap between the black straight and
[36:56] Speaker 2: the black LGBTQ community. Would that you support me? And
[37:00] Speaker 2: she said, whatever you need. Yes, literally funded my whole
[37:04] Speaker 2: dinner and it was the most beautiful thing. Everybody came
[37:09] Speaker 2: that I invited. I had Beby Smith who came and
[37:12] Speaker 2: did a unity toast, our brother Kenny Burns. Andrew Day
[37:18] Speaker 2: came and she had just want her golden globing. She
[37:20] Speaker 2: hopped on a plane and came to the dinner. Our
[37:24] Speaker 2: dear sister Davine and Joy came Patrick em Polk. I
[37:27] Speaker 2: mean you name it, Kim Page from B E T.
[37:29] Speaker 2: I mean everybody. There was a lot of support, a
[37:32] Speaker 2: lot of support from my brothers and sisters on both sides.
[37:35] Speaker 2: And I knew that I was onto something because you know,
[37:39] Speaker 2: some of the people came up afterwards and says, I'm charged,
[37:42] Speaker 2: and what can we do? Because the goal is and
[37:45] Speaker 2: then the call to action is to go out and
[37:49] Speaker 2: share the information, not about the event, but share the
[37:53] Speaker 2: information about the disconnect and why the disconnect has happened
[37:58] Speaker 2: and why it's been done on purpose. And so I
[38:01] Speaker 2: started plated purpose for that reason. And so far, so good.
[38:06] Speaker 2: We just need more of those.
[38:07] Speaker 1: Now.
[38:08] Speaker 2: Now here's the here's the ugly side to it. Right,
[38:11] Speaker 2: when you're out doing good, it gets no attention. When
[38:17] Speaker 2: you're trying to make a difference, when you're trying to
[38:18] Speaker 2: make it, don't get it gets no attention. But I
[38:21] Speaker 2: do have my first Then I do have to I
[38:22] Speaker 2: do have to thank Bossip and balla Alert because they
[38:27] Speaker 2: did they covered it and they mentioned it. But when
[38:32] Speaker 2: when you're when you're shedding light on what our issues
[38:35] Speaker 2: are at a possible solution to fix it, it garners
[38:39] Speaker 2: no attention. That's the part that we the powers that be,
[38:43] Speaker 2: the people that have influence, the people that know, the
[38:46] Speaker 2: people that know, the people that run, the people that
[38:48] Speaker 2: run the run the board and click the buttons, spread
[38:52] Speaker 2: the information about how we're wrong. The stuff they out
[38:57] Speaker 2: here doing to what meet Meal? And uh who else
[39:02] Speaker 2: they clown Shannon Sharp? They clo Shannon Shark right now?
[39:06] Speaker 2: Why but they're not the next breath. Oh we gotta
[39:11] Speaker 2: protect our black brothers.
[39:13] Speaker 1: But you're not protecting them. You're creating lies and.
[39:18] Speaker 2: Just you're forcing them to go into a hiding space,
[39:23] Speaker 2: not that they have anything to hide from, but you're
[39:26] Speaker 2: now playing or trying to push them into this this
[39:30] Speaker 2: space of insecurity that they can't welcome them whole selves,
[39:36] Speaker 2: their whole selves into society without somebody judging them because
[39:42] Speaker 2: they may gesture a way that some people might think
[39:46] Speaker 2: it's inappropriate or isn't of the norm. It is baffling, it.
[39:52] Speaker 1: Is And yeah, I did see those both of those,
[39:56] Speaker 1: and I'm actually really good friends with me. I don't
[39:58] Speaker 1: know Shannon, but like I'm just like, why do people
[40:02] Speaker 1: do that? And then your heart goes out because people
[40:04] Speaker 1: don't understand. I was also talking to Marcus about this too,
[40:06] Speaker 1: how and devout how our life when we're in the light,
[40:10] Speaker 1: it becomes other people's entertainment and they literally do not
[40:14] Speaker 1: have any concept of how they can have an impact
[40:16] Speaker 1: on us when they're constantly judging or making accusations or
[40:22] Speaker 1: just making a comment and having an opinion about every
[40:25] Speaker 1: part of our lives.
[40:26] Speaker 2: It's crazy because not to make this about Meek Meal,
[40:29] Speaker 2: but he has had one of the most I don't
[40:33] Speaker 2: even know glorified turn up songs, lit whatever they dreams
[40:40] Speaker 2: and nightmare, yes classic, I don't care where you go
[40:44] Speaker 2: in this world, Yeah, in this world, in this world. Yeah,
[40:49] Speaker 2: when you hear that you write a sense of power
[40:52] Speaker 2: you do.
[40:54] Speaker 1: It's crazy.
[40:55] Speaker 2: You feel a sense of power. It inspires you in
[41:00] Speaker 2: some way in that moment. It could be as small
[41:03] Speaker 2: as inspiring you to want to buy a bottle. It
[41:07] Speaker 2: can inspire you to go work harder so you can
[41:09] Speaker 2: get your dream car, your dream house.
[41:12] Speaker 1: What to go harder?
[41:15] Speaker 2: But isn't that the work that we're supposed to be doing.
[41:20] Speaker 2: And he's done it one song, That one song has
[41:24] Speaker 2: done it for so many people. Not making this about
[41:26] Speaker 2: that song, I'm just using that as an example. But
[41:30] Speaker 2: look how quick people can forget. But look how quick
[41:36] Speaker 2: people forget.
[41:39] Speaker 1: It's crazy.
[41:42] Speaker 2: It's crazy.
[41:43] Speaker 1: People have real life stuff going on that you have
[41:45] Speaker 1: no idea about, and then you just want to tear
[41:48] Speaker 1: somebody down.
[41:50] Speaker 2: You want to tell somebody down now, don't get me wrong.
[41:51] Speaker 2: There are some people that have done wrong, that have
[41:57] Speaker 2: done some really ugly things. Yeah, and yes it is.
[42:01] Speaker 2: It is our kind of innate reaction to blast them
[42:09] Speaker 2: and clown them. But in all things, I think everybody
[42:13] Speaker 2: deserves grace.
[42:14] Speaker 1: They do, that's good.
[42:16] Speaker 2: I think in everything everybody deserves grace. Yes, And until
[42:20] Speaker 2: you can get to that point to extend grace, keep
[42:24] Speaker 2: your mouth shut so that you don't create stripes of
[42:27] Speaker 2: your own.
[42:27] Speaker 1: That part, because if the same people who are doing
[42:30] Speaker 1: that that that will not give other people grace, they
[42:33] Speaker 1: forget the grace they be living. And like, what if
[42:36] Speaker 1: the stuff that you've done was exposed? You know what
[42:38] Speaker 1: I'm saying?
[42:39] Speaker 2: Keep living? Yeah, keep living because you will do something,
[42:42] Speaker 2: whether people see it or not, you will do something
[42:46] Speaker 2: that is gonna set your spirit so uneasy. Yes, you know, yeah, grace.
[42:52] Speaker 1: I love that. That is so good. All right, So
[42:55] Speaker 1: I want to switch gears a little bit. You went
[42:57] Speaker 1: from hairstylis being a silas for twenty years to becoming
[43:01] Speaker 1: a hair stye on Real Housewives of Atlanta. Then you
[43:04] Speaker 1: ended up being a star on Lee Daniels Starr. You
[43:08] Speaker 1: played Oh I forgot this? You were so good in
[43:10] Speaker 1: this movie The United States versus Billions so good. Yes,
[43:16] Speaker 1: And then the movie Bros. What Really Wanted made you
[43:19] Speaker 1: want to tap into the acting part.
[43:22] Speaker 2: It all came to me. It fell into my lap.
[43:25] Speaker 2: I swear to you. I didn't go after any of it.
[43:28] Speaker 2: I did not. Yes. I was a hairstylist for quite
[43:32] Speaker 2: some time and because I was good at it, one
[43:35] Speaker 2: of the best. And I don't and I you know,
[43:37] Speaker 2: I try to stay as mid as possible, but I
[43:40] Speaker 2: was one of the best.
[43:41] Speaker 1: Did you do hat on hair shows?
[43:43] Speaker 2: I used to do the hair shows. I used to
[43:45] Speaker 2: do the hair shows, all of it, and I I
[43:51] Speaker 2: garnered a very an extensive clientele. And one of my
[43:55] Speaker 2: clients early on was Charade with Phil from Real Housewives.
[44:00] Speaker 2: She was a very close friend of mine, or is
[44:02] Speaker 2: a very close friend of mine, and when they were
[44:05] Speaker 2: starting Housewives, she asked me to come on the show
[44:08] Speaker 2: with her. I didn't think much about it. I'm like, okay,
[44:11] Speaker 2: come on there and do you have okay cool whatever?
[44:13] Speaker 2: I do that anyway, and I did it, and I
[44:17] Speaker 2: became a fan favorite, so much so that eventually Andy
[44:23] Speaker 2: Cohen asked me, would I be interested in doing another show?
[44:28] Speaker 2: And that show was called Fashion Queens that I did
[44:31] Speaker 2: with Bebby Smith and Derek j. That was very successful. Yeah,
[44:37] Speaker 2: And it was very successful. We ran for three seasons,
[44:39] Speaker 2: and during that time, Lee Daniels was a fan of
[44:43] Speaker 2: Fashion Queens. He and his partner would watch Fashion Queens
[44:47] Speaker 2: and I met him one day in Los Angeles and
[44:50] Speaker 2: he came and introduced himself to me, and he just
[44:54] Speaker 2: said that he was a fan and he loved the
[44:57] Speaker 2: show and for me to tell Baby Smith, he said hello,
[45:00] Speaker 2: because he and Bevy are friends. Fast forward to one day,
[45:05] Speaker 2: he reaches out to Bevy and he's like, someone told
[45:08] Speaker 2: me that Miss Lawrence can sing. And she's like, oh
[45:11] Speaker 2: my god, like a bird. Yeah, And he said, have
[45:14] Speaker 2: him record something and send it to me, and I did.
[45:17] Speaker 2: I recorded because he was entertaining doing a movie on Sylvester,
[45:23] Speaker 2: who was an iconic disco artist, legend icon And so
[45:28] Speaker 2: I went to my hotel room that night and I
[45:31] Speaker 2: sang one of Sylvester's Almighty Real, and I sent it
[45:35] Speaker 2: to Bevy and she sent it to him. By that Monday,
[45:37] Speaker 2: when I had got back home from New York, he
[45:39] Speaker 2: called me and he's like, oh my god, I didn't
[45:41] Speaker 2: know you. He said, I'm gonna do something with you,
[45:43] Speaker 2: and I was like, hey, great. You know, I didn't
[45:45] Speaker 2: think much about it. Let me tell you really quick
[45:48] Speaker 2: because I know we're But it's always been kind of
[45:52] Speaker 2: hard for me to get really excited off the bat
[45:55] Speaker 2: when it comes to stuff like that, because there's that
[46:00] Speaker 2: imposter syndrome. There's those small voices in my head. You know.
[46:04] Speaker 2: I guess you would call it trauma or whatever that says,
[46:09] Speaker 2: Oh you know, you ain't gonna get me so far, now,
[46:11] Speaker 2: calm down, you ain't go give us so far. So
[46:14] Speaker 2: it would be hard for me to get excited, you know.
[46:17] Speaker 2: But I listen, I'm like, okay, great, you know I
[46:19] Speaker 2: can't wait. Fast forward. He reached out. He says, I'm
[46:22] Speaker 2: gonna put you on Empire. I'm gonna put you on
[46:25] Speaker 2: the first episode, second season of Empire, and I went
[46:28] Speaker 2: I did it. He had me singing Mighty real on
[46:32] Speaker 2: laying on a piano in one of the scenes. I
[46:35] Speaker 2: got invited to the premiere at Carnegie Hall, and when
[46:40] Speaker 2: my scene came up, the room went crazy. And because
[46:44] Speaker 2: of the response. As he was creating the show Star,
[46:47] Speaker 2: he created the role for me Miss Bruce, and from
[46:52] Speaker 2: that he when he was developing or writing The United
[47:00] Speaker 2: States Versus Billy Holiday, he said, there is there is
[47:05] Speaker 2: a person that was very close to Billy named It's Freddy.
[47:09] Speaker 2: He said, I think you would be great for that role.
[47:10] Speaker 2: He said, but you're gonna have the audition for this one.
[47:13] Speaker 2: And I said, okay, I got no problem. And I
[47:15] Speaker 2: studied and I studied and I studied, and I got
[47:19] Speaker 2: the job. Thank you. I got the job. And you
[47:23] Speaker 2: know that led into the creators of Brose, Billy Eichner,
[47:30] Speaker 2: and Judd Appetite, all of them. They noticed me, and
[47:36] Speaker 2: when they were creating the movie Bros. They reached out
[47:39] Speaker 2: to my team and had me to audition for that
[47:41] Speaker 2: and so I got that job. And so it all
[47:44] Speaker 2: just kind of fell in my lap. So I didn't
[47:47] Speaker 2: have I never had that period of silence. I've always
[47:54] Speaker 2: worked from the time I was my first job, I
[47:58] Speaker 2: was fourteen years old. I lied on application and everything
[48:01] Speaker 2: to get a job. That one time. Now, at one time,
[48:04] Speaker 2: I did a lot because I wanted that job. I
[48:06] Speaker 2: wanted that job at the gumbo shop at the airport
[48:08] Speaker 2: because I wanted to buy my own blouses and lip
[48:10] Speaker 2: gloss for my mom, and I would not buy it.
[48:12] Speaker 2: So I had to get me a job so I
[48:15] Speaker 2: could buy the stuff that I wanted, and so I
[48:17] Speaker 2: did a lot of that time, and so I never
[48:22] Speaker 2: had a break and I love working fast forward. So
[48:29] Speaker 2: that's how it all fell in my left. That's how
[48:31] Speaker 2: my career just kind of fell in my left. But
[48:32] Speaker 2: it was all about divine order, right, because remember my
[48:35] Speaker 2: original passion was the arts. I loved singing, dancing and
[48:39] Speaker 2: dah da da da, right, but I abandoned it because
[48:44] Speaker 2: listening to the naysayers, the world was not going to
[48:48] Speaker 2: accept me for that, and probably back then though, but
[48:52] Speaker 2: you know, look where we are. And so I gave
[48:58] Speaker 2: the beauty industry and ten percent of myself. I nurtured
[49:03] Speaker 2: that gift. I gave it away. I taught it to
[49:06] Speaker 2: seven phenomenal hairstyles that are all very successful right now.
[49:11] Speaker 2: And because I did my work and I did my
[49:14] Speaker 2: job there, that is a thing that created space and
[49:21] Speaker 2: the gift that made room for me to come back
[49:24] Speaker 2: to my original passion. Because had it not been for
[49:26] Speaker 2: me being good, had it not been for me being unselfish,
[49:33] Speaker 2: I don't think I would have made it to a
[49:35] Speaker 2: Housewives that led to a Fashion Queens that led to
[49:39] Speaker 2: Empire that led to star that led to the United
[49:41] Speaker 2: States Versability Holiday that led to Bros that led to
[49:44] Speaker 2: the Deliverance. It wouldn't have been any of that. So
[49:48] Speaker 2: my biggest note to people is nurture the gifts that
[49:52] Speaker 2: God gave you. Don't be selfish with it. Poured into
[49:57] Speaker 2: other people, because the more you poured, the more you
[50:00] Speaker 2: you can be filled up. And that is a thing
[50:02] Speaker 2: that's gonna make room for you. That's gonna make room
[50:05] Speaker 2: for your gifts, for you to grow in places that
[50:07] Speaker 2: you didn't think you were gonna be able to go
[50:08] Speaker 2: because I had no idea. I had no idea. Now,
[50:12] Speaker 2: the challenging part came when we go into a pandemic.
[50:18] Speaker 2: It ain't no work, ain't work now I'm sitting at
[50:20] Speaker 2: home now. I've always had a very healthy appetite for
[50:25] Speaker 2: nice things, clothes, handbags, jewelry, you know, da da da,
[50:32] Speaker 2: And I said, okay, it ain't no work.
[50:36] Speaker 1: How I'm supposed to get my things.
[50:37] Speaker 2: I'm gonna get my things. I want to think about bills,
[50:41] Speaker 2: those will still being those were you know, everything was
[50:43] Speaker 2: set up on automatic. I'm Okay, who but how I'm
[50:45] Speaker 2: gonna get my other stuff? Well, fast forward, it's another
[50:50] Speaker 2: year into the pandemic. Still ain't no work. So now
[50:53] Speaker 2: I'm concerned about bills.
[50:55] Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah yeah.
[50:57] Speaker 2: Now I'm seeing them little numbers trickle down that I
[51:01] Speaker 2: at one point had stacked up so high. Oh yeah,
[51:04] Speaker 2: a boh tat so high? And I said, okay. So
[51:11] Speaker 2: then I got into you know, I had speaking engagements
[51:14] Speaker 2: here and there, kept the lights on. Great come out
[51:17] Speaker 2: of the pandemic. Strike, We're going to do a strike.
[51:20] Speaker 2: What're you talking about? Stroke?
[51:21] Speaker 1: Right?
[51:22] Speaker 2: Strike? Why is the work? Where are my things? Where
[51:29] Speaker 2: is my Alexander McQueen, where's my sonel? Where's my guitar?
[51:33] Speaker 2: Where are all of my silly material things? Where is it? Then?
[51:44] Speaker 2: Then Mother's Day of twenty twenty three, I woke up
[51:51] Speaker 2: to a phone call that my father was not well.
[51:57] Speaker 2: Actually I didn't know my father at the time. My
[51:59] Speaker 2: sister called and she's really upset. She's like, you gotta
[52:01] Speaker 2: get here. And I get to the house, to my parents' house,
[52:04] Speaker 2: and my father is on the stretcher and they're working
[52:06] Speaker 2: on them. And my father's to my knowledge, had always
[52:10] Speaker 2: been very healthy, not one thing wrong with him. He
[52:14] Speaker 2: would have been eighty this year. No, he would have
[52:17] Speaker 2: been eighty. He would be eighty one this year. My
[52:21] Speaker 2: daddy was still mowing lawns. He was a workaholic. That's
[52:25] Speaker 2: where I know a lot of my work ethics came from.
[52:27] Speaker 2: Remember going back to my foundation. Lo and behold my
[52:33] Speaker 2: father passes away abruptly on Mother's Day. God, what part
[52:42] Speaker 2: of the plan is this?
[52:44] Speaker 1: What is going on?
[52:46] Speaker 2: I now have my mother that I have to take
[52:49] Speaker 2: care of her household, have to help out with. You know,
[52:54] Speaker 2: my niece lot ain't no work. So now I'm not
[52:58] Speaker 2: concerned about my things anymore. I'm now concerned about making
[53:04] Speaker 2: sure my mama them is okay. You know that's a
[53:09] Speaker 2: type of pressure. Damn me. I will be all I'm
[53:11] Speaker 2: gonna figure it out. But now how am I about
[53:14] Speaker 2: to do this?
[53:16] Speaker 1: You know?
[53:17] Speaker 2: And I have always been since a teenager or late teen,
[53:24] Speaker 2: since I've been working, I have always been a lender.
[53:29] Speaker 2: God has always blessed me to be a lender. Not
[53:33] Speaker 2: one time had I ever been put in a borrow receipt.
[53:38] Speaker 2: But I have to say that twenty twenty three showed
[53:42] Speaker 2: me what it was like to tap into your village,
[53:46] Speaker 2: meaning your friends, your chosen family, to allow them as
[53:53] Speaker 2: your ointment to rub on you and heal you. To
[53:59] Speaker 2: help her text you. I had to be put in
[54:02] Speaker 2: a borrower's seat so that I can so that I
[54:08] Speaker 2: have a new awareness about what it means to lend
[54:14] Speaker 2: on a whole other level once I'm placed back into
[54:17] Speaker 2: a lending seat. And it took a while to get that,
[54:21] Speaker 2: and it was someone told me that you're the reason
[54:27] Speaker 2: you're still above water and you haven't sink and you
[54:31] Speaker 2: won't is because you spent your entire teenage life into
[54:37] Speaker 2: your adult life pouring depositing into others. At some point
[54:45] Speaker 2: you have to be able to make withdraws. And so
[54:49] Speaker 2: I have been in a seizing of withdrawing, pulling out
[54:54] Speaker 2: of my spiritual savings account. Yes, and so the revelation
[55:00] Speaker 2: that the Holy Spirit gave me was it's not even
[55:04] Speaker 2: about money. It's not about the material things. It is
[55:09] Speaker 2: about the relationships and the connections and utilizing the vessels
[55:13] Speaker 2: that I have placed in your life. That's what it is.
[55:18] Speaker 2: And I'm so thankful that I had the experience in
[55:25] Speaker 2: twenty twenty three, as painful as it was, I'm thankful
[55:30] Speaker 2: because my outlook and my optimism on twenty twenty four
[55:38] Speaker 2: is unmatched. And I've never been here mentally. Wow, I've
[55:42] Speaker 2: never been here and been so more assured of what's coming.
[55:48] Speaker 2: You know. I feel like a whole different type of adult.
[55:54] Speaker 2: I ain't concerned about that foolish just thought. I don't
[55:56] Speaker 2: keep your bags keep all of that stuff, honey, because
[56:00] Speaker 2: it's not important. God the baby, God showed me that's
[56:04] Speaker 2: not important.
[56:05] Speaker 1: The same thing happened to me last year doing the strike.
[56:07] Speaker 1: And I think too, like when we when we start
[56:09] Speaker 1: making a lot of money, the things that we've always wanted,
[56:13] Speaker 1: it's like, oh now I can get it. So now
[56:14] Speaker 1: we're like, give me that, give me that, give me that,
[56:16] Speaker 1: give me that, give me that. And then once you
[56:18] Speaker 1: buy it, it's like, okay, what else? So on? And
[56:21] Speaker 1: then you go get the cars you want, and you're like,
[56:23] Speaker 1: what else, honey?
[56:24] Speaker 2: Because let me tell you something. When life happens like
[56:27] Speaker 2: it did for me, like it did for us, like
[56:30] Speaker 2: it did for a lot of people, Yeah, you send
[56:33] Speaker 2: it home with all that stuff in your closet, and
[56:37] Speaker 2: you can go out and you can fake like everything
[56:40] Speaker 2: is peaches and cream. But you so crazy feeling on
[56:45] Speaker 2: the inside, and that stuff don't make you feel good.
[56:48] Speaker 1: It is not.
[56:48] Speaker 2: It does not make you feel good. You might look good,
[56:52] Speaker 2: yeah you might. I don't look like what I've been through, right,
[56:56] Speaker 2: But that's a gift and a curse because the more
[56:59] Speaker 2: you go out and you don't look like what you're
[57:03] Speaker 2: going through. Yeah, and you don't know how to open
[57:05] Speaker 2: your mouth and tell people about what you going through.
[57:07] Speaker 2: How you go get help?
[57:08] Speaker 1: Come on, now, how you go get help? That's real.
[57:11] Speaker 2: I had to unlock another level of vulnerability. Yeah, and
[57:16] Speaker 2: transparency with my friends. Yeah, with my closest friends, you know,
[57:21] Speaker 2: and now even with strangers. I open my mouth now,
[57:25] Speaker 2: yeah when I need help.
[57:27] Speaker 1: Yes, you have to.
[57:28] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[57:29] Speaker 1: I love that. And I'm glad you're on the other
[57:31] Speaker 1: side of that as well. Yeah.
[57:32] Speaker 2: God is good.
[57:33] Speaker 1: He is so good. He is. That strike in that
[57:36] Speaker 1: time it set me down for a minute, and then
[57:38] Speaker 1: it made me realize coming out of it, things I
[57:40] Speaker 1: thought were so important and just like wanting to look
[57:43] Speaker 1: a certain way, and oh, I can get this, and
[57:45] Speaker 1: this is what I really want because I'm into fashion
[57:47] Speaker 1: and bags and all the things. And then once I
[57:50] Speaker 1: came out of I was telling one of my castmates.
[57:52] Speaker 1: I was like, you know, I'm not gonna wear my
[57:54] Speaker 1: money as much. I want to put it in other places.
[57:57] Speaker 2: You know.
[57:57] Speaker 1: It really opened my eyes to a lot of things.
[58:00] Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm sayding, Like one year, I lively sent
[58:03] Speaker 1: like one hundred thousand dollars just in Demons alone, baby,
[58:06] Speaker 1: and my red was so happy.
[58:07] Speaker 2: He was, Girl, I'm still that name of my name
[58:10] Speaker 2: of Marcus Charge because I'm still paying that down. I'm like, wow,
[58:15] Speaker 2: still paying that down, you know. But you know, I
[58:17] Speaker 2: learned that it's not it's not what's on you, it's
[58:21] Speaker 2: what's in you.
[58:22] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[58:23] Speaker 2: And if what's in you is is right in an
[58:25] Speaker 2: alignment with your purpose, the purpose that God gave you,
[58:32] Speaker 2: that's gonna always shine brighter than inn it Rolex, than
[58:36] Speaker 2: any label, than anything.
[58:38] Speaker 1: Yep. So that's the word. We're gonna leave it on
[58:41] Speaker 1: that one. I love that so good, No, thank you.
[58:47] Speaker 1: So we're gonna do what we call positive outcomes, where
[58:50] Speaker 1: the listeners right into us and we give them advice. Okay,
[58:53] Speaker 1: all right, So this one says, Hey, Crystal, I grew
[58:56] Speaker 1: up in the church, and I want to start off
[58:58] Speaker 1: by saying I love God with everything in me. I've
[59:01] Speaker 1: always known that I was attracted to women. I'm literally
[59:04] Speaker 1: happier than I've ever been with my fiance, who's a woman.
[59:07] Speaker 1: Why is it so hard for people to see that
[59:09] Speaker 1: you can love God and be gay. It's really the
[59:12] Speaker 1: hardest thing I've ever dealt with, the judgment by the church.
[59:15] Speaker 1: I've lost Christian friends just by coming out. I literally
[59:18] Speaker 1: fasted and prayed that God would take it away if
[59:21] Speaker 1: it wasn't right. I've struggled with my sexuality my whole life.
[59:25] Speaker 1: Last year I came to a crossroads whether I should
[59:28] Speaker 1: take my own life or live in my truth. While
[59:31] Speaker 1: I'm choosing to live in my truth, it's still so hard.
[59:34] Speaker 1: Do you have any advice for me on how to
[59:36] Speaker 1: navigate my truth and make people accept me for who
[59:39] Speaker 1: I am. First of all, thank you so much for
[59:43] Speaker 1: writing in. We talked about this. We talked about the
[59:47] Speaker 1: judgment of the Church and Christians and how they choose
[59:51] Speaker 1: certain things that they want to be very harsh on
[59:53] Speaker 1: when it comes to being judgmental and being against I
[59:56] Speaker 1: would say to you, one, do not go in to
[1:00:00] Speaker 1: life wanting to make people accept it.
[1:00:02] Speaker 2: That's it.
[1:00:02] Speaker 1: You know, you have to know this is who you are.
[1:00:05] Speaker 1: You've prayed and fasted over this. If this is what
[1:00:08] Speaker 1: you feel is for you, then you have to go
[1:00:11] Speaker 1: with that. But you are never gonna find happiness seeking
[1:00:15] Speaker 1: acceptance from other people.
[1:00:17] Speaker 2: What it is You accept yourself first. Yeah, you have
[1:00:20] Speaker 2: to you accept yourself first. Know God for yourself, not
[1:00:24] Speaker 2: for don't don't understand God based on what somebody else
[1:00:28] Speaker 2: told you who God is. Understand them and learn them
[1:00:30] Speaker 2: for yourself and allow him to show up and you
[1:00:34] Speaker 2: you know, for yourself, and then you ask God to
[1:00:38] Speaker 2: place the people in your life that get it, that
[1:00:42] Speaker 2: get it, and then you go back when you're strong enough,
[1:00:45] Speaker 2: and then you go back and you teach those that
[1:00:47] Speaker 2: was ignorant. You know, you go back and teach it
[1:00:51] Speaker 2: because that's that's that's our job.
[1:00:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's good. I love that, all right. So next
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: thing we're gonna do is what I'm going through and
[1:01:01] Speaker 1: what I'm growing through and for me on this day
[1:01:06] Speaker 1: I woke up. I've been very open about this. I'm
[1:01:10] Speaker 1: working on my potty mouth. You know, I have a
[1:01:13] Speaker 1: custin spirit. And sometimes what I'm working on and the
[1:01:17] Speaker 1: things that I want to you know, I don't want
[1:01:20] Speaker 1: to talk like that, but sometimes you get around people
[1:01:23] Speaker 1: comfortable with And our video had come out and I
[1:01:25] Speaker 1: was like, don't where. I was like, is this bad?
[1:01:28] Speaker 1: You know? And she's like, no, it was funny, And
[1:01:29] Speaker 1: when you watch the whole video, it is actually funny
[1:01:31] Speaker 1: what I'm saying. But I was like, dang, I want
[1:01:34] Speaker 1: people judging that. I started getting in the comments like well,
[1:01:36] Speaker 1: I've never heard her say that word, and I hate
[1:01:38] Speaker 1: that word, and I don't know if I really like
[1:01:40] Speaker 1: her and all these things, and I'm just like, oh gosh.
[1:01:42] Speaker 1: I was like, did I make a mistake? So for me,
[1:01:45] Speaker 1: it's working all my language and how I talk and
[1:01:49] Speaker 1: express myself, but also not worrying about what everybody else
[1:01:54] Speaker 1: has to say.
[1:01:54] Speaker 2: You know. Ye, let me ask you a question. You
[1:01:58] Speaker 2: don't want to curse any more? Why one?
[1:02:02] Speaker 1: Because I mean, I feel like this the spiritual journey
[1:02:05] Speaker 1: I'm on right now, I want to feel like I'm
[1:02:09] Speaker 1: completely walking in that, you know, and those are some
[1:02:11] Speaker 1: things I just need to kind of let go of.
[1:02:13] Speaker 2: So let me ask you this because this is something
[1:02:15] Speaker 2: me and and and my friend's mom. Okay, is it
[1:02:21] Speaker 2: because you have you understood the Bible to say cursing
[1:02:28] Speaker 2: was not right, because if so, where it in the Bible?
[1:02:34] Speaker 1: Then is there anywhere where where I can't curse? Because
[1:02:38] Speaker 1: I know you know it.
[1:02:44] Speaker 2: There's no such thing. Wow, it's another false teaching. God
[1:02:48] Speaker 2: did not say that. I ain't.
[1:02:52] Speaker 1: Oh, I don't be cut words.
[1:02:59] Speaker 2: Uh huh.
[1:03:00] Speaker 1: Cussing, that's cursing.
[1:03:03] Speaker 2: The cursing is that curse? That's it placing negative pejoratives
[1:03:11] Speaker 2: on you? Just what you know? Yea speaking speaking speaking
[1:03:20] Speaker 2: on people in negative way, that's cursing.
[1:03:23] Speaker 1: Yeah, cussing.
[1:03:26] Speaker 2: Somebody may just make no words? Who said that was bad?
[1:03:30] Speaker 1: Like?
[1:03:31] Speaker 2: You get that from? You get that from now? Out
[1:03:36] Speaker 2: of respect to my elders because they're not there. I don't.
[1:03:42] Speaker 2: I don't cuss in front of my mama. You know
[1:03:44] Speaker 2: I won't do that. Yeah, but I'm gonna cuss, and
[1:03:48] Speaker 2: I'm gonna cuss you out sometimes. I'm not gonna curse you.
[1:03:53] Speaker 2: I'm not gonna wish anything bad or ill on you,
[1:03:56] Speaker 2: but I might call you some cuss words. I'm gonna
[1:04:01] Speaker 2: do that. If you cut me off at a light,
[1:04:07] Speaker 2: you do something stupid, you're gonna be everything, MFA, you
[1:04:11] Speaker 2: name it, You're gonna be all of it.
[1:04:20] Speaker 5: But I think I think that that that that though.
[1:04:24] Speaker 5: Is I love that you answer that question because I
[1:04:26] Speaker 5: think that it's a thing of like.
[1:04:29] Speaker 4: Is it because you believe.
[1:04:32] Speaker 5: That because of the walk that you're on, there's an
[1:04:34] Speaker 5: expectation of perfection?
[1:04:37] Speaker 4: Or is it because you have the convict?
[1:04:39] Speaker 1: What is perfection a cancer? That's my therapi, she said,
[1:04:43] Speaker 1: because I used to be like, I'm just perfection because
[1:04:45] Speaker 1: the BO says strive for a perfection. But she was like,
[1:04:47] Speaker 1: when you're literally trying to be perfect, she was like,
[1:04:50] Speaker 1: it's a cancer.
[1:04:51] Speaker 2: Drive yourself crazy, crazy, Go drive yourself crazy. Just be honest. Yeah,
[1:04:57] Speaker 2: just be honest. That's it. Yeah, you a beautiful woman,
[1:05:02] Speaker 2: you speak well, you're smart, you're talented, that's it.
[1:05:09] Speaker 1: That's it. But I cuess and you just don't have
[1:05:13] Speaker 1: enough From time to time what you say language come on.
[1:05:25] Speaker 4: On something you heard, so you say whatever you're saying.
[1:05:31] Speaker 3: It's like, I'm givings on that, but it's still it's
[1:05:34] Speaker 3: a vocabular word that I mean us to show you.
[1:05:37] Speaker 2: How strong.
[1:05:41] Speaker 1: It really came from. Like I'm passionate about this and
[1:05:43] Speaker 1: I really want you to know what I'm trying to
[1:05:45] Speaker 1: get across. So what about you it's Lawrence, what are
[1:05:48] Speaker 1: you going through? What are you growing through?
[1:05:53] Speaker 2: I am going through, uh a growth spurt right now,
[1:06:02] Speaker 2: and it's not it's uncomfortable, but in a good way
[1:06:08] Speaker 2: because I have opened up new areas that I've never
[1:06:12] Speaker 2: tapped into in my you know, in my life that
[1:06:16] Speaker 2: I'm excited about. So I'm growing to you know, venture
[1:06:21] Speaker 2: into new business arenas, into real estate, into you know,
[1:06:29] Speaker 2: a deeper level or a bigger level of entrepreneurship all
[1:06:34] Speaker 2: of that, and growing pains comes with that. And the
[1:06:36] Speaker 2: growing pain part is, you know, having to really exercise
[1:06:42] Speaker 2: your faith, which is believing and seeing the things that
[1:06:47] Speaker 2: are not there yet, you know, but you know it's happening,
[1:06:53] Speaker 2: and so you just keep walking towards it because you
[1:06:56] Speaker 2: see it. You see it, but you know in your
[1:07:00] Speaker 2: mind you don't have you we think the enemy will
[1:07:04] Speaker 2: make us think that we don't have the necessary tools
[1:07:06] Speaker 2: to get there. But it's there. Is that that's the
[1:07:10] Speaker 2: growing pain part. Yeah, But I am. I am growing
[1:07:14] Speaker 2: into a new level of abundance that I am so
[1:07:20] Speaker 2: excited about. Yeah. But you know, because I am now
[1:07:24] Speaker 2: a more aware and responsible individual, I will now be
[1:07:31] Speaker 2: more responsible with my gifts and my fruit.
[1:07:36] Speaker 1: Come on now. Yeah, that's good. I love that. Oh
[1:07:39] Speaker 1: my gosh, I'm taking all that. That's that's good. I
[1:07:41] Speaker 1: needed that. And thank you for helping me with that.
[1:07:44] Speaker 1: That was good.
[1:07:45] Speaker 2: Now I'm not telling you to go on Instagram like yeah,
[1:07:51] Speaker 2: but I don't want you, you know, beating yourself up
[1:07:54] Speaker 2: because you might be on online and you might say
[1:07:56] Speaker 2: a cuss word here.
[1:07:57] Speaker 1: That what we're human, right, yeah, you're right. Yeah. So
[1:08:04] Speaker 1: the close that we say, we fill in the blank
[1:08:07] Speaker 1: of keep it blank, sweetie. And this week and based
[1:08:11] Speaker 1: on what we've been talking about, I'm going to say,
[1:08:16] Speaker 1: keep it graceful, sweetie, have grace with yourself and grace
[1:08:22] Speaker 1: with others.
