[0:00] Speaker 1: Hey, Sweys, I'm so glad you enjoy be Et Media
[0:03] Speaker 1: House Part one.
[0:03] Speaker 2: But there is more. We are about to drop part two.
[0:06] Speaker 2: There are so many gyms drops, and I hope you
[0:08] Speaker 2: enjoy it. Kim's family.
[0:11] Speaker 1: We are at the Beet Media House for the twenty
[0:13] Speaker 1: fifth BET Awards and I have with me right now
[0:16] Speaker 1: the iconic, the beautiful Angie Martinez.
[0:19] Speaker 2: Hey, sweet, nothing much. I'm so happy to have you
[0:24] Speaker 2: on the couch now I get to be in this sign. Yes,
[0:26] Speaker 2: last time you was on Nasade, I was in the
[0:28] Speaker 2: hot seat.
[0:29] Speaker 1: So you have your podcast in real life at Agie Martinez.
[0:33] Speaker 1: What has been something for me? Because I know for
[0:34] Speaker 1: me with doing my podcast, I've learned things about myself
[0:37] Speaker 1: real it's almost therapeutic.
[0:38] Speaker 2: Yeah for sure. Yeah. How will it been for you?
[0:40] Speaker 3: Because it forces you to frame the way you think
[0:41] Speaker 3: about things? Yes, because you gotta have something to say
[0:44] Speaker 3: about the thing. It forces you to be like, how
[0:45] Speaker 3: do I really feel about this right as you're talking
[0:48] Speaker 3: about it? For me too, I talk less about my
[0:51] Speaker 3: personal stuff on the radio. Radio is like about you know,
[0:55] Speaker 3: what's trending topic and what artists are doing and music
[0:59] Speaker 3: and the plot guess is like you know, we're talking
[1:01] Speaker 3: about real things, yes, real like it's just light bulbs
[1:07] Speaker 3: and ways that we got to the other side of things,
[1:10] Speaker 3: just the things we learned and real life. Yeah, and
[1:13] Speaker 3: so that requires me to to be honest about things
[1:16] Speaker 3: and so yeah, definitely.
[1:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, interesting, it's interesting. It is where else is. Yes,
[1:24] Speaker 2: we're all about positivity here. Keep it positive. By the way,
[1:28] Speaker 2: I told you already this. I love the name of
[1:29] Speaker 2: this probably thank you. It was funny.
[1:31] Speaker 1: I was trying to change it at one point and
[1:32] Speaker 1: was like, no, you cannot feel good.
[1:35] Speaker 2: I hear the name. I know exactly where I stand.
[1:37] Speaker 2: I feel comfortable sitting with you.
[1:39] Speaker 3: I know, you know, there's no like if somebody didn't
[1:42] Speaker 3: know the platform on the pod, that.
[1:44] Speaker 2: Name lets you know out the gate with the yes yes.
[1:48] Speaker 1: How have you been able to keep it positive in
[1:50] Speaker 1: an industry that has been so negative and chaotic?
[1:52] Speaker 2: A sometimes and sometimes it's really hard? Yeah, I don't
[1:55] Speaker 2: know that.
[1:56] Speaker 3: My whole career, I've always I definitely have fell victim
[2:00] Speaker 3: to like getting hot headed or upset about something or
[2:03] Speaker 3: maybe react overly reactive to things.
[2:06] Speaker 2: But that never feels good, right, you know what I'm saying.
[2:09] Speaker 3: It's ultimately being positive and trying to take the high
[2:14] Speaker 3: road and and.
[2:16] Speaker 2: Do right by people, and that just feels better. Yeah.
[2:21] Speaker 2: So I just tried to do that as much as
[2:24] Speaker 2: I can. I love that. Yeah.
[2:25] Speaker 3: Sometimes people get under your skin. Yes, but you know
[2:30] Speaker 3: life is short, man. You do bad things, bad things happen.
[2:33] Speaker 3: I really believe a karma I have you know, I
[2:36] Speaker 3: believe a god him off in any way?
[2:39] Speaker 4: Same, Yes, absolutely, Like I'm one of those people to
[2:44] Speaker 4: like if I were to do something that was not
[2:47] Speaker 4: positive and not the right thing to do, I would
[2:50] Speaker 4: immediately feel the blowback of that.
[2:54] Speaker 2: Definitely. I feel you. I'm the same way. Immediately, I
[2:57] Speaker 2: could get sick.
[2:57] Speaker 3: I could just say something's gonna happen, media a little
[3:01] Speaker 3: back because I know better, right, you know what I'm saying,
[3:04] Speaker 3: do something I wasn't supposed to do.
[3:05] Speaker 2: I immediate it's gonna hit me in Yeah, I'm with
[3:08] Speaker 2: you on that. Just it's easier to do the right thing. Yeah, No,
[3:12] Speaker 2: for sure. What's up?
[3:15] Speaker 1: Kids, family? I have someone with me that we all
[3:18] Speaker 1: know because she's already been on the sofa, the one,
[3:20] Speaker 1: the only le Vassie.
[3:22] Speaker 2: What's up? Yeah?
[3:26] Speaker 1: So I would love to ask you we always talk
[3:28] Speaker 1: about positivity here on Keep It Positive Sweeping.
[3:30] Speaker 2: What is one way that you've kept it positive during
[3:33] Speaker 2: the season.
[3:34] Speaker 5: M One way I've kept it positive during the season
[3:37] Speaker 5: is I've started to work out.
[3:38] Speaker 2: Okay, I've now become a pilates girly. Pilates is everything, girl, and.
[3:44] Speaker 5: It's become a big part of you know, my weekly
[3:48] Speaker 5: you know, day to day things that kind of keep
[3:49] Speaker 5: me grounded and you know, keep me taking care of
[3:52] Speaker 5: my temple, you know. So that's been a huge addition,
[3:54] Speaker 5: you know, to my day to day.
[3:56] Speaker 2: I love that. I love that. Before you get out
[3:58] Speaker 2: of here, I want to play a quick game of
[3:59] Speaker 2: this or that. Okay you ready? All right? Pray first
[4:02] Speaker 2: or journal first? Pray audiobook or paperback paperback? Need too.
[4:07] Speaker 2: I love the smell of paper. We were just talking
[4:09] Speaker 2: about this. I love the smell of paper.
[4:11] Speaker 1: It's something about like just flipping the pages and highlighting. Yes, yeah,
[4:15] Speaker 1: I'm the girl too. Riseing car in silence or ride
[4:18] Speaker 1: with music blasting.
[4:20] Speaker 5: You know, I used to be silenced, but I just
[4:22] Speaker 5: got a new car and I love the South speakers.
[4:25] Speaker 2: Listen like I don't listen to the album.
[4:26] Speaker 1: Yeah car, you gotta ride to it listen, No, like
[4:29] Speaker 1: it's how I do music. I have to get in
[4:31] Speaker 1: the car and see how it feels when I'm riding. Yes,
[4:33] Speaker 1: and I gotta blast it as a lot as it
[4:34] Speaker 1: can go.
[4:35] Speaker 2: I love that. Are you the first to arrive or
[4:37] Speaker 2: the last to leave? Probably first to arrive in first leave? Yes,
[4:42] Speaker 2: that's me. I'm like, I'm going and get there so
[4:44] Speaker 2: I can get out. I love that. All right, let
[4:49] Speaker 2: it slide or we ride it down. I know, for me,
[4:56] Speaker 2: let this lost. So I don't.
[4:58] Speaker 5: Believe in dot in the I ain't at all actually right,
[5:01] Speaker 5: I believe in I know this is a this or that. Right,
[5:05] Speaker 5: It's like I believe in grace, but I'm not about
[5:07] Speaker 5: to die for you. So it's kind of like I'm
[5:09] Speaker 5: like somewhere in the middle, right. I love it positive
[5:14] Speaker 5: Patty or negative Nancy?
[5:15] Speaker 2: Positive? I know this one, yes, because we would keep
[5:18] Speaker 2: it positive, sweetie. Hello, Oh my gosh, y'all.
[5:22] Speaker 1: I first laid eyes on this woman on Instagram, was
[5:25] Speaker 1: instantly obsessed. Then I got to meet her and get
[5:28] Speaker 1: to know her. The beautiful kaiser Hi, gorgeous.
[5:33] Speaker 6: I'm so excited to be here.
[5:35] Speaker 1: I'm so excited when I saw you coming in, I
[5:37] Speaker 1: was like, we gotta get her on the couch.
[5:40] Speaker 2: How are you feeling? I'm good.
[5:41] Speaker 6: You know, this is new territory for me, you know,
[5:45] Speaker 6: new people, new environments, but definitely feel like God placed
[5:49] Speaker 6: me here and to be surrounded around people like you
[5:51] Speaker 6: is just more fulfilling it.
[5:53] Speaker 2: I love that.
[5:54] Speaker 1: I love that you have a personal relationship with God.
[5:56] Speaker 1: I'm really big on faith and I'm really big on
[5:58] Speaker 1: talking about it here and keep it positive.
[5:59] Speaker 2: Sweet. How has God guided you through.
[6:02] Speaker 1: Like even this transition where you're like you're embarking on
[6:05] Speaker 1: different territories.
[6:06] Speaker 2: How has that journey been with him?
[6:07] Speaker 7: Yeah?
[6:08] Speaker 6: I mean He's the only reason why I'm on this journey,
[6:10] Speaker 6: to be honest, if it were to leave it up
[6:12] Speaker 6: to me, Lord knows, I would probably be keeping myself
[6:15] Speaker 6: one dimensional. Being able to see the gifts that He
[6:19] Speaker 6: has given me and to utilize him. I think that's
[6:21] Speaker 6: the gift that I am able to give back to him.
[6:24] Speaker 2: I love it.
[6:24] Speaker 1: I love it, and I pray that God continues to
[6:26] Speaker 1: blow your mind. You are so deserving guys as well.
[6:30] Speaker 2: See him all on you. Thank you so much. Same same.
[6:34] Speaker 1: I'm really big on mental health and so are you,
[6:36] Speaker 1: And how has I know, like, probably within the past
[6:41] Speaker 1: four or five years, mental health has become really big
[6:43] Speaker 1: in our community. Whereas we were just kind of trained
[6:47] Speaker 1: to like push things aside and keep pushing. How have
[6:50] Speaker 1: you been able to find those moments to really deal
[6:52] Speaker 1: with your mental health?
[6:53] Speaker 6: Yeah, I think me making the ultimate decision when I
[6:56] Speaker 6: was at the height of my career so young. Yeah,
[6:59] Speaker 6: and when I was a rookie coming in. You know,
[7:01] Speaker 6: I was a top five pick and I had chose
[7:03] Speaker 6: to walk away from the game even though I had
[7:06] Speaker 6: spent my whole life working up to this moment, and
[7:09] Speaker 6: it didn't feel what I thought it would be because
[7:12] Speaker 6: of all the trauma that I've endured, things just trying
[7:14] Speaker 6: to sweep underneath the rug to go play the games.
[7:17] Speaker 6: You know, I had just lost my father right before
[7:19] Speaker 6: I got drafted in the middle of the season. It
[7:21] Speaker 6: showed up the next day, kept playing like just things
[7:24] Speaker 6: that behind closed doors, people didn't know about it. And
[7:27] Speaker 6: when I saw myself on a billboard and when I
[7:29] Speaker 6: would come home, I realized I was living a double lifestyle.
[7:33] Speaker 6: And that's when I realized, I'm like, Okay, I'm gonna
[7:35] Speaker 6: choose me instead of choosing the world, and this is
[7:38] Speaker 6: when I started learning about mental health. Now it is
[7:41] Speaker 6: part of my boundaries. I need my solitude. I need
[7:45] Speaker 6: to have time with myself. I need to recharge and
[7:48] Speaker 6: check in Lorens. I'm Leo Codd, So I appreciate my
[7:53] Speaker 6: loane space. But it's some matters that I am the
[7:56] Speaker 6: matter I can be for others around me.
[7:57] Speaker 2: That is so true. That is so I agree with
[8:00] Speaker 2: you wholeheartedly, and with none.
[8:04] Speaker 1: Other than twenty time Grammy Award winning my brother Kirk Franklin.
[8:10] Speaker 2: What's going on? Christ Due?
[8:14] Speaker 8: That's your theme music?
[8:15] Speaker 2: That's it.
[8:16] Speaker 1: We're gonna keep that sound like that's gonna be at
[8:18] Speaker 1: the beginning of season eight.
[8:19] Speaker 8: That's gonna be horrible. Good to see you, queen, you too.
[8:22] Speaker 2: Love How you feeling good? Good?
[8:24] Speaker 1: It's always good to see you. You always have the
[8:25] Speaker 1: best energy. How you feeling today?
[8:27] Speaker 8: I'm good.
[8:28] Speaker 9: I got up them Ac cardio this morning, so my
[8:31] Speaker 9: anxiety levels are down right right right.
[8:34] Speaker 2: You have a new single you.
[8:35] Speaker 1: I feel like, do you live in the studio because
[8:38] Speaker 1: you stay on top of it. You're always coming out
[8:40] Speaker 1: with new music, You're always collaborating. I love you got
[8:43] Speaker 1: a new single, Yeah, let's talk. I saw you in
[8:45] Speaker 1: the car playing in for Taybor. That was so cute.
[8:47] Speaker 2: Thank you.
[8:48] Speaker 8: Yes, called do it again.
[8:49] Speaker 9: And you know, for people to have spiritual amnesia, it's
[8:52] Speaker 9: so easy to forget what God did because you come
[8:55] Speaker 9: up to another problem and it's like in a panic,
[8:58] Speaker 9: a panic, and so I'm like, God is like, bro,
[9:00] Speaker 9: didn't you just see me pull up the last situation?
[9:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know, our.
[9:05] Speaker 9: Fears won't allow us to hold on to those memories.
[9:08] Speaker 9: And so hopefully this song does the job of reminding us.
[9:12] Speaker 1: Yeah, and if he did it before, he'll do it again.
[9:14] Speaker 1: He'll do it again, and he will. That is so
[9:16] Speaker 1: good because we do get spiritual amesia. That's real and
[9:19] Speaker 1: we all do. Oh my goodness, we all do. I
[9:22] Speaker 1: do we all do.
[9:24] Speaker 2: That's so good.
[9:24] Speaker 1: I love that I had to use that because I
[9:26] Speaker 1: know for me, y'all definitely like as soon as something
[9:28] Speaker 1: crazy happens, my first instinct is a panic, like, oh, guys,
[9:32] Speaker 1: not remembering how many times he's brought you out.
[9:34] Speaker 9: And you got a history where the men will still
[9:36] Speaker 9: do it so and what's so beautiful though, is that
[9:39] Speaker 9: he don't throw us away because of.
[9:40] Speaker 2: That I'm on now. He does not. He does not.
[9:46] Speaker 1: I have with me a woman that is near and
[9:49] Speaker 1: dear to my heart, the one and only Miss Kimberly Page.
[9:52] Speaker 2: How are you doing? So excited for you to be here?
[9:57] Speaker 2: And you look amazing and.
[9:58] Speaker 1: You you too serious like the fashions. You are like
[10:01] Speaker 1: the epitome of class. No seriously, yes, no, you are
[10:05] Speaker 1: like I just wish I could be as lady like
[10:08] Speaker 1: as you please, because you walk in and it's like
[10:11] Speaker 1: like your feet don't test.
[10:12] Speaker 2: The ground, like it's an inner spirit. I love it.
[10:15] Speaker 2: It starts from with it. I love it. No, that
[10:18] Speaker 2: is yes, you do it very well. Thank you. I'm
[10:21] Speaker 2: going to get there. I'm working on it. I really
[10:22] Speaker 2: get in this stage my life.
[10:23] Speaker 1: I'm working on being more lady like and exuding my
[10:26] Speaker 1: soft girl era and softness.
[10:28] Speaker 2: So I'm trying to get there. You're there, but a.
[10:31] Speaker 1: Lot of people do not know that you are literally
[10:33] Speaker 1: the heartbeat behind everything that happens at BT. You so
[10:36] Speaker 1: into so many people, a lot of things that you
[10:39] Speaker 1: see happening that are big. You're the person that's signing
[10:42] Speaker 1: off saying yes, let's support them. How did you come
[10:45] Speaker 1: to be the campage that everyone knows now.
[10:48] Speaker 2: You know, I think for me, I've always been.
[10:52] Speaker 10: I have a spirit of service that makes sense, and
[10:55] Speaker 10: so as I'm thinking about anything, whether it's you know, work,
[10:59] Speaker 10: my family, my friends, my team, I try to come
[11:02] Speaker 10: and center from that that space of service. And I
[11:04] Speaker 10: think when you're willing to serve, great leaders have to
[11:07] Speaker 10: be servers.
[11:08] Speaker 11: Yeah.
[11:09] Speaker 2: I love that. This next guest, y'all have seen him
[11:14] Speaker 2: on the kip sofa.
[11:15] Speaker 1: He is my friend, my brother. I love him so
[11:18] Speaker 1: so much. He hit me day he said, asis you
[11:21] Speaker 1: at that media house. I said, yeah, he said, I'm
[11:23] Speaker 1: pulling up and he is here.
[11:25] Speaker 8: Major, what's happening. It's so good to see you in
[11:29] Speaker 8: your light.
[11:29] Speaker 2: Thank you.
[11:30] Speaker 8: You are light.
[11:31] Speaker 7: But it's good to see you spotlighted and you have
[11:34] Speaker 7: a whole corner. You don't get corners in the media
[11:36] Speaker 7: house unless you're doing something.
[11:38] Speaker 2: Somebody else said the same.
[11:39] Speaker 8: I want to be clear. This is called favor.
[11:42] Speaker 7: It's called it's called God said now is your time,
[11:45] Speaker 7: and you're showing up and showing up.
[11:47] Speaker 1: For I love you, Thank you so much. Let's talk
[11:49] Speaker 1: about everything you have going on. I prayed for you
[11:52] Speaker 1: number one two weeks.
[11:53] Speaker 2: In a row.
[11:54] Speaker 7: That's right, that's right, Row, that's my new new that's
[11:57] Speaker 7: my new news, and I'm super it sited. So I
[12:01] Speaker 7: Prayed for You just went number one on Billboard. A
[12:06] Speaker 7: gospel airplay more specifically, Why I Love You went platinum,
[12:11] Speaker 7: and the thing as an independent artist who's mama named
[12:14] Speaker 7: a major, the journey is very unpredictable, and oftentimes the
[12:19] Speaker 7: things that you expect to happen happen out of order.
[12:22] Speaker 7: And it's kind of wild, but out of order from
[12:26] Speaker 7: how I planned it. You know what they say, give
[12:28] Speaker 7: God your plans and you make laugh. Yeah, So it's
[12:33] Speaker 7: crazy that you know. Years later, I get my first
[12:37] Speaker 7: ever number one on Billboard with the song about Prayer,
[12:41] Speaker 7: and you know, to talk about that song, Crystal. It
[12:45] Speaker 7: came by way of a text message that Chadwick Boseman
[12:48] Speaker 7: sent me. He said, at ten forty five Eastern Standard
[12:52] Speaker 7: time on April fourth, twenty twenty, let's collectively pray for
[12:55] Speaker 7: the hope of the world because people are drowning in
[12:59] Speaker 7: a sea of hopelessness. Yes, from their mindset on how
[13:02] Speaker 7: to heal, how to recover from COVID nineteen, the civil
[13:06] Speaker 7: unrest in the land, And I didn't know that my
[13:09] Speaker 7: brother would be passing four months later. But my thing
[13:13] Speaker 7: is if he had the audacity to hope for the
[13:16] Speaker 7: world while he was going through his own things, I
[13:19] Speaker 7: think I can lock in on that.
[13:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's beautiful, But no, I am so proud of you.
[13:23] Speaker 1: You have been very open about the ups and downs
[13:27] Speaker 1: of this industry or the impact that has had on
[13:30] Speaker 1: your life.
[13:30] Speaker 2: Absolutely, and you work so hard and you want.
[13:32] Speaker 1: To be noticed and you want to be awarded for
[13:35] Speaker 1: your good works. So and He's like, you were almost
[13:38] Speaker 1: there so many times. And now it's like God is like, iet, Yo,
[13:42] Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying.
[13:43] Speaker 7: You know what it feels like when you've been on
[13:45] Speaker 7: this journey of hoping and wishing and believing and sacrificing
[13:49] Speaker 7: and giving, and when you're in a season.
[13:52] Speaker 8: As you are, it's a perpetual rollout.
[13:55] Speaker 7: Only a god like our God can plan a rollout
[13:59] Speaker 7: like that. But it's like, man, did the church say Amen? Yeah,
[14:04] Speaker 7: y'all know what I'm talking about. Literally, it has been perpetual.
[14:09] Speaker 7: I saw you, I've had you, I got you.
[14:13] Speaker 11: Yes.
[14:14] Speaker 7: Berkeley College of Music, my alma mater, just inducted me
[14:17] Speaker 7: into the Hall of Fame.
[14:20] Speaker 12: Uh.
[14:20] Speaker 7: I got the number one for two weeks in a row. Uh,
[14:24] Speaker 7: there's just so many things. Tammeron hall. I do her
[14:28] Speaker 7: one one one show, and then she's like, can we
[14:31] Speaker 7: bring you back next month? I'm like, yes, yes, And
[14:35] Speaker 7: I stayed at the hotel that I knew you did that.
[14:37] Speaker 7: I said, I know what hotel is. I ain't gonna
[14:39] Speaker 7: tell you.
[14:40] Speaker 8: We don't know hotel.
[14:42] Speaker 13: You know.
[14:43] Speaker 1: That was my first time staying there because what I
[14:44] Speaker 1: usually said it was there was some tech conference going.
[14:47] Speaker 8: On, but that one that it hits it.
[14:49] Speaker 2: Oh yes, and they upgrade me to this, like like
[14:53] Speaker 2: I got a little living room and.
[14:54] Speaker 8: A bedroom set a little corner.
[14:56] Speaker 2: Yeah that if you weren't where you open up the.
[14:58] Speaker 8: Hudson, you might have had my.
[15:00] Speaker 2: Right you Like that sounds very familiar. That thing was nice.
[15:04] Speaker 8: This is nice, But it's the fun thing.
[15:08] Speaker 7: The beautiful thing is when we take a beat and
[15:13] Speaker 7: just let God be God, he shows us that he's
[15:16] Speaker 7: the master curator of answered prayers, of blessings, of I
[15:23] Speaker 7: see you, I got you.
[15:25] Speaker 8: When I say yes, nobody can say no.
[15:28] Speaker 2: No.
[15:29] Speaker 7: That's what we're living with and that's what we're living in.
[15:31] Speaker 7: So I'm excited about it.
[15:32] Speaker 1: I am so excited for you. You deserve everything. When I
[15:36] Speaker 1: say I love you, I truly love you. I'm always
[15:38] Speaker 1: rooting for you. Have a heart of goal.

[15:43] Speaker 8: seeing you win.
[15:44] Speaker 7: Thank you.
[15:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, what's up, y'all? Kissing only day two at the

[15:56] Speaker 1: I'm excited to hang out with the kids family. Anytime

[16:01] Speaker 1: jetting it on. We love you, like you oh much,
[16:05] Speaker 1: so much so. The last time we talked, you had
[16:07] Speaker 1: just gotten your peach. Yes, season had not dropped yet.
[16:10] Speaker 1: So how is that going now? On the Real House Lives,
[16:13] Speaker 1: I learned, Oh my goodness, when I tell you, there
[16:16] Speaker 1: have been such high highs and low lows. It's been insane.
[16:21] Speaker 1: I mean I started out it was amazing, and you know,
[16:24] Speaker 1: I was.
[16:24] Speaker 2: Like, oh, we love Samia.
[16:25] Speaker 1: And then I was in the hot seat for like
[16:27] Speaker 1: three weeks. They're like, oh, she's forced slapdog, she's you know,
[16:31] Speaker 1: all these things, and I'm like, oh, please, let's give
[16:34] Speaker 1: me a break people. Yeah, it's when I say they
[16:36] Speaker 1: were giving it to me, but what it It gave
[16:38] Speaker 1: me a thick skin there you go, yeah, like you know,
[16:41] Speaker 1: it made me like I gotta say out the comments.
[16:44] Speaker 2: But now I'm back in a good place with our fans.
[16:47] Speaker 2: I love it. I love that. Such your wave, such
[16:49] Speaker 2: an emotional rollercoaster. We just finished shooting our reunion.
[16:53] Speaker 1: Oh wow, that's always which had me with such anxiety.
[17:00] Speaker 1: It's crazy because you never know what's gonna happen. You
[17:01] Speaker 1: never know what it's gonna happen, you never know who's
[17:03] Speaker 1: gonna come for you. I also have to recap sixteen
[17:06] Speaker 1: seventeen episodes have an entire year in one day, and
[17:09] Speaker 1: it's a very long day.
[17:10] Speaker 2: I want to say, it's like a twelve hour shoot.
[17:12] Speaker 2: Oh wow. Yeah, that's the costing.
[17:14] Speaker 1: It's exhausting, and even leading up to it, it's just
[17:17] Speaker 1: emotionally training because you're like, you lived some dark moments
[17:21] Speaker 1: on TV, then you have to watch them and yeah,
[17:23] Speaker 1: the second time you see it union, it's the third
[17:26] Speaker 1: time that you relive it, and so it's like reliving
[17:28] Speaker 1: something over and over again. It's just overwhelming at times,
[17:31] Speaker 1: but I'm so happy I survived it. I survived my
[17:33] Speaker 1: first A feature to thank you. So when people I
[17:38] Speaker 1: started out the seasons in it was sweet sixteen, Sweet sixteen.
[17:40] Speaker 1: I'm excited Sweet sixteen, and I'm.
[17:42] Speaker 2: Ending this season sad. It's a bittersweet sixteen.
[17:44] Speaker 10: You know.
[17:45] Speaker 1: It had its bitter moments and it's had it's had
[17:47] Speaker 1: its sweet moments. But I would not change any of
[17:49] Speaker 1: it happened, No regret.
[17:51] Speaker 2: Good, That's all that matters.
[17:55] Speaker 1: It's christernity Hazlet and I have with me the legendary Salt. Hey,
[18:01] Speaker 1: how are you great? I'm ray I'm fingerling out inside
[18:05] Speaker 1: because I can't believe you're sitting here.
[18:07] Speaker 2: Thank you. Congrats to you on all your things. I
[18:09] Speaker 2: think you're doing all the things. I'm loving it. Keeping
[18:12] Speaker 2: it positive. Oh, thank you, Vie. You ain't the positive,
[18:16] Speaker 2: that's right.
[18:17] Speaker 8: I was allowed.
[18:18] Speaker 1: So this is the thirty fifth year anniversary of your
[18:20] Speaker 1: album Black Magic. How does that feel to thirty five years?
[18:24] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[18:25] Speaker 11: No one.
[18:26] Speaker 2: We always say salt and pepper, but fun, fashion and
[18:29] Speaker 2: femininity to have parted.
[18:31] Speaker 14: We were authentically ourselves and I feel like that's why
[18:34] Speaker 14: we lasted this long. We also made timeless music YEP,
[18:38] Speaker 14: So it feels. Did I think it would be to
[18:41] Speaker 14: this level still all these years later.
[18:44] Speaker 2: No, it definitely.
[18:45] Speaker 14: I appreciate it. It's kind of surreal it. You know,
[18:47] Speaker 14: the assault in this Sheryl right.
[18:52] Speaker 2: Yeah, yelling it out here in the streets, right, It's amazing.
[18:55] Speaker 2: She's amazing. She is amazing. I love that. And you
[18:58] Speaker 2: also have some solo music, can you? That's what you're
[19:00] Speaker 2: working on.
[19:00] Speaker 14: So I'm working on some personal music just about my journey.
[19:05] Speaker 14: Just sharing with the ladies and things that I've been
[19:07] Speaker 14: through is very personal, kind of wi pimonial and also fun,
[19:12] Speaker 14: just expressing myself as an artist.
[19:14] Speaker 2: Still, that's amazing. That is what we do. It has
[19:16] Speaker 2: what resonates, and that's what and we will want the music.
[19:19] Speaker 1: Yes, the dude, and they wanted to hear your stories
[19:22] Speaker 1: because that's how they connect with you. Yeah, I love
[19:25] Speaker 1: that for you. And I am so excited about the
[19:27] Speaker 1: Wars thing. I cannot wait to see rock the States.
[19:29] Speaker 1: You're gonna kill it, and congratulations on Everything's gonna be
[19:32] Speaker 1: a moment.
[19:33] Speaker 2: It will be. You're welcome, Thank you so much.
[19:38] Speaker 1: And I have with me none other than the director
[19:41] Speaker 1: of Zatima. You may see me on that He is
[19:45] Speaker 1: the writer of the latest season of Sisters. He also
[19:47] Speaker 1: has a short film that's going to be presented at
[19:49] Speaker 1: many film festivals, starting with ABFF this coming up week,
[19:52] Speaker 1: The Old Gray Mayor, starring daval Ellis and.
[19:56] Speaker 11: Bro and ty Lepley Charnelle short of Oh my Gosh, Yes, yes, yes,
[20:02] Speaker 11: people know her as Kimberle reach her.
[20:05] Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, yeah.
[20:07] Speaker 2: So so good.
[20:08] Speaker 1: So let's get into it. We also have a film
[20:09] Speaker 1: coming out as we assume that we're gonna make.
[20:11] Speaker 2: Together, called A Love.
[20:12] Speaker 1: Give y'all that little sneak tip right there, So talk
[20:15] Speaker 1: to me. Tell me what you are most excited about
[20:18] Speaker 1: in this season of your life. Everything has literally skyrocketed.
[20:21] Speaker 8: I love, I love, Yeah, because A love is I know.
[20:25] Speaker 11: So the thing is, I've always had to make films
[20:28] Speaker 11: with what I had, not what I've wanted. So, like
[20:33] Speaker 11: you know, like I saw you on as the team,
[20:35] Speaker 11: I saw the things that you do. I saw what
[20:39] Speaker 11: you've done on film, and honestly, some of the things
[20:42] Speaker 11: that people you guys get to see aren't the things
[20:44] Speaker 11: that that's not all the shots. So I get the
[20:47] Speaker 11: opportunity to see her in a light to where y'all
[20:50] Speaker 11: it might not make that particular cut to where she cries,
[20:53] Speaker 11: she's happy, she said, and all of that, and I
[20:54] Speaker 11: saw something in her that made me want to bring
[20:57] Speaker 11: her into a part. So now I had the opportunity
[20:59] Speaker 11: to choose the actress that I want, and we built
[21:02] Speaker 11: such a great relationship. This will be the first time
[21:04] Speaker 11: that I'm working with somebody one that I love and
[21:07] Speaker 11: in our in our respect, and we get to do
[21:09] Speaker 11: this dance. I'm really really excited to do this because
[21:12] Speaker 11: now I can show who Courtney is versus kind of
[21:16] Speaker 11: like pulling tooth and nail trying to make money for
[21:18] Speaker 11: this and adjusting.
[21:19] Speaker 8: I don't have to adjust, So yeah, now they get
[21:21] Speaker 8: to really really see it.
[21:22] Speaker 1: So I'm excited for it, and I'm excited for them
[21:24] Speaker 1: to see who Crystal is as an actor because I
[21:27] Speaker 1: think this will be the first time I'm actually able
[21:29] Speaker 1: to like really like take time and cultivate.
[21:32] Speaker 8: Absolutely a character. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[21:35] Speaker 11: This ain't the Crystal that y'all are used to sing.
[21:38] Speaker 11: Just to be very clear, this ain't the same Crystal.
[21:41] Speaker 11: So and I guarante I'm not doing it now because
[21:43] Speaker 11: we're gonna tell them. I'm gonna end up talking about something.
[21:46] Speaker 11: We're gonna spoil it. You're talking about the next episode. Yah, yeah, yeah,
[21:50] Speaker 11: you know what I'm saying. No, No, it's gonna be
[21:51] Speaker 11: great now. But that's my that's what I'm excited about
[21:54] Speaker 11: this year.
[21:54] Speaker 1: You know you, And I'm proud of you. Thank you then,
[21:57] Speaker 1: so proud of you and everything that you're doing. It's
[22:00] Speaker 1: is like we just met a year ago. Yeah up,
[22:02] Speaker 1: you're out of this world. Yeah nah, it's it's up.
[22:05] Speaker 11: And again, like I think I do give a lot
[22:09] Speaker 11: of credit to you of of Shepherd shepherding me into
[22:14] Speaker 11: what the Tiler period universe was going to be like
[22:17] Speaker 11: and all of this ship like like this ain't you know?
[22:19] Speaker 8: Don't you know what I'm saying. But just hit me,
[22:22] Speaker 8: checking on me, making sure.
[22:23] Speaker 11: That I'm good. The one thing that you guys need
[22:25] Speaker 11: in this in this industry, especially when you're entering it,
[22:28] Speaker 11: it's somebody that's a veteran into it that can tell
[22:31] Speaker 11: you what corners to turn, what corners and who to
[22:33] Speaker 11: stay away from.
[22:34] Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. So you've definitely been there
[22:36] Speaker 2: for I always keep it real.
[22:38] Speaker 11: Yeah yeah yeah yeah, And gonna ain't gonna call you
[22:41] Speaker 11: and tell you, hey, this this hell, I don't, I don't.
[22:44] Speaker 8: I don't know about this one. I don't know about
[22:46] Speaker 8: this one.
[22:46] Speaker 1: You know what I love about you is that you
[22:48] Speaker 1: take you take my advice but hear me either if
[22:50] Speaker 1: you you can throw it away or you can keep it,
[22:52] Speaker 1: but you hear me absolutely.
[22:54] Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I want to be better man, Like I.
[22:57] Speaker 1: Want you to be the best, and like I'm gonna
[22:58] Speaker 1: let you know arouse, I know what you're capable of
[23:01] Speaker 1: where you.
[23:01] Speaker 11: Are great friends. Ain't people that just tell you you
[23:04] Speaker 11: good at everything? This one's gonna be like, I don't
[23:07] Speaker 11: know about that shit, bro, don't I don't know if
[23:09] Speaker 11: you should.
[23:10] Speaker 8: Yeah, So you know what I'm saying.
[23:11] Speaker 2: It's good to have you in my corner always.
[23:13] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[23:13] Speaker 2: I appreciate you and I have with me none other
[23:17] Speaker 2: than l Russell your How are you feeling, I'm well,
[23:23] Speaker 2: I feel great.
[23:24] Speaker 1: I love talking about ownership. What is the impact of
[23:26] Speaker 1: ownership and what does it mean to you?
[23:28] Speaker 15: You don't have the ability to fully execute your vision
[23:32] Speaker 15: if you don't own it, because there's always somebody that
[23:35] Speaker 15: could tell you no. And sometimes your vision is just
[23:38] Speaker 15: based on how you feel. You don't have data or
[23:41] Speaker 15: anything to prove it. It's just like, I want to
[23:43] Speaker 15: do this because this is what feels good to me.
[23:45] Speaker 15: And uh, it's hard to do that when you don't
[23:47] Speaker 15: have control or rain over over what you creating, what
[23:51] Speaker 15: you do. So our ownership just it means a lot
[23:54] Speaker 15: because it just allows you to move from your heart.
[23:57] Speaker 8: I love it.
[23:58] Speaker 2: I love it.
[24:00] Speaker 1: It's your christ her name Hazlet And right now I
[24:03] Speaker 1: have with me Ki Ki Elaine ki Ki.
[24:06] Speaker 2: What's up, beautiful man. I'm so happy to be here. Yes,
[24:10] Speaker 2: is this your first BT award?
[24:11] Speaker 11: It is?
[24:12] Speaker 2: How exciting is that? It's amazing? Yes, I love us.
[24:16] Speaker 12: I love celebrating us. So when I can be in
[24:18] Speaker 12: that room, yeah, I'm most happy. What has been like
[24:21] Speaker 12: some of the lessons that you learned during this time?
[24:25] Speaker 6: You know.
[24:25] Speaker 12: The first thing that popped in my head was something
[24:27] Speaker 12: that Regina King said to me. It was actually she
[24:30] Speaker 12: was presenting the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Award to
[24:34] Speaker 12: Years and I got up on a stage and she
[24:36] Speaker 12: knows me so well, she could tell I was freaking out,
[24:39] Speaker 12: and she just said, breathe.
[24:41] Speaker 2: Oh, she just said breathing. Yeah, Because you know, we
[24:44] Speaker 2: get to going and going and going, and it.
[24:46] Speaker 16: Is we forget.
[24:47] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[24:47] Speaker 1: I was at a retreat and the lady who was
[24:51] Speaker 1: doing like our session, she said, we live in a
[24:53] Speaker 1: world of shallow breathers and we don't even realize we
[24:56] Speaker 1: don't take deep breaths because we're like you said, we're
[24:59] Speaker 1: just going going.
[25:00] Speaker 12: Yeah, that's so important to just breathe. Yeah, better said there.
[25:04] Speaker 12: Everything else can grow, but it always starts with your Yeah.
[25:08] Speaker 2: I love that. And I have one of my favorite people.
[25:12] Speaker 2: He is so funny. I love him on Instagram. This
[25:14] Speaker 2: is my Actually we met at a Hawks gang. I
[25:16] Speaker 2: don't know if you remember. She kind of looked at
[25:18] Speaker 2: me like you I know who you are.
[25:19] Speaker 1: Okay, because you kind of looked me like you didn't
[25:21] Speaker 1: know if I was like, it's like sometimes it's like
[25:23] Speaker 1: it's just it's just like in shock.
[25:25] Speaker 2: I'm still in shocked to be able to be in
[25:27] Speaker 2: rooms with you know, great people. I feel, you know,
[25:29] Speaker 2: I still pinched myself.
[25:30] Speaker 1: I was on the plane the other day and the lady,
[25:32] Speaker 1: her daughter recognized me and she said next to me,
[25:34] Speaker 1: and she goes, are you famous?
[25:35] Speaker 2: And I'm like it hasn't really sunk in yeah, because
[25:39] Speaker 2: it's like.
[25:39] Speaker 17: I'm just crystal, like you can like, you know, I
[25:42] Speaker 17: work that popause. Imagine you at Papa's like what she's
[25:44] Speaker 17: doing here? That's where you know, you just look famous.
[25:47] Speaker 17: Somebody asked, you're so sweet, work up?
[25:48] Speaker 2: Yeah terming.
[25:50] Speaker 8: Yeah, I use that line on a lot of people.
[25:53] Speaker 2: It works, it works. You are so funny. So what
[26:01] Speaker 2: brought you to be to this weekend?
[26:02] Speaker 8: The airplane?
[26:03] Speaker 2: All stupid? That's the car dad, I don't even need
[26:07] Speaker 2: to carry.
[26:09] Speaker 17: But you know what, I start to learn that just
[26:12] Speaker 17: being in a room with people and leaving energy and
[26:16] Speaker 17: moments of more important.
[26:17] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[26:18] Speaker 17: You know, when you when you come in your era
[26:22] Speaker 17: and you build your career, sometimes you just think it's
[26:24] Speaker 17: about your team setting things up, and also sometimes you
[26:28] Speaker 17: think it's about money.
[26:29] Speaker 2: But sometimes it is better to meet people of real life.
[26:31] Speaker 17: And just lead moments with them and you never know
[26:32] Speaker 17: who you're running to and like start a relationship and
[26:35] Speaker 17: then y'all can start, you know, and bring something to and.
[26:38] Speaker 2: Bill together from there.
[26:39] Speaker 8: Yeah.
[26:39] Speaker 2: I love that.
[26:40] Speaker 8: I love this.
[26:40] Speaker 2: So you have your father as well?
[26:42] Speaker 1: Yeah, and you're so beautiful than you yes, oh my god, gorgeous.
[26:47] Speaker 1: What is it like balancing your life and then also
[26:50] Speaker 1: being a father.
[26:51] Speaker 8: It's just being there for like being something that you
[26:53] Speaker 8: never had. Monday dude was like he was. He was
[26:56] Speaker 8: like that guy.
[26:57] Speaker 2: He was a drug dealing and stuff.
[26:58] Speaker 17: So with him being in and out and when he
[27:02] Speaker 17: got like when he got killed, it just showed me
[27:04] Speaker 17: to be more about for my kids because I knew
[27:07] Speaker 17: how I was not to have a father, so I
[27:09] Speaker 17: won't be there for my kids. And I'm also a
[27:11] Speaker 17: good stepdaddy. So ladies, if you have any problems with
[27:14] Speaker 17: your baby daddy, I can't. I'm the guy that come
[27:17] Speaker 17: to I'd be doing matching pictures and stuff with the kids.
[27:22] Speaker 17: I really don't like when I talk to girls I
[27:23] Speaker 17: got kids, I want their baby daddy be out the
[27:25] Speaker 17: way because.
[27:25] Speaker 8: I'd be like, like, I'm trying to be the daddy.
[27:27] Speaker 17: I know I ain't got fighting nobody. No we two
[27:30] Speaker 17: girl up that yeah yeah, no one wants stepdaddy. Yeah
[27:36] Speaker 17: you remember that song Stepdaddy? Yeah yeah that's yeah, that's you.
[27:41] Speaker 17: Yeah that's your flyers too. I like how you care
[27:43] Speaker 17: yourself and you're very consistent.
[27:45] Speaker 2: Thank you. It's like you just I appreciate that. That
[27:47] Speaker 2: means a lot of coming you because I really admire
[27:49] Speaker 2: your word. No, so what if somebody has say, what's
[27:56] Speaker 2: another answer you will say? If someone said, yeah, say
[27:58] Speaker 2: the same thing. Thank you? Oh okay, good? Yeah, this
[28:08] Speaker 2: is crazy?
[28:09] Speaker 8: Oh wow, thank you?
[28:11] Speaker 7: Is it?
[28:13] Speaker 2: And I have with me one of my favorite people
[28:16] Speaker 2: growing up, y'all. I just love her. When I saw her,
[28:19] Speaker 2: I was like, we have to interview her, the one
[28:21] Speaker 2: and only Maya. How are you?
[28:25] Speaker 6: So?
[28:25] Speaker 2: Are you good?
[28:27] Speaker 13: Like?
[28:27] Speaker 2: You literally had not aged? Thank you, you have not.
[28:31] Speaker 1: We have all aged and gracefully, honey. So what is
[28:35] Speaker 1: it like to continue to work on your crafts?
[28:37] Speaker 13: I love touring, you know, I stay on the road.
[28:40] Speaker 13: I'm an independent artist. I've been just producing a lot
[28:44] Speaker 13: of projects since the end of two thousand and seven
[28:47] Speaker 13: independently through my own label, and it's been a wonderful
[28:51] Speaker 13: educational journey, I bet, and also empowering and then creatively
[28:57] Speaker 13: very fun. So Give It to You comes out June tenth,
[29:00] Speaker 13: and it is basically a nod and a salute to
[29:03] Speaker 13: all the music that I.
[29:04] Speaker 2: Grew up to in my living room.
[29:06] Speaker 13: It feels like my living room.
[29:07] Speaker 2: When I was a kid.
[29:08] Speaker 12: Oh.
[29:08] Speaker 2: I love the funk of the eighties.
[29:10] Speaker 13: The late seventies, vibes, Prince Jam and Lewis the Time,
[29:14] Speaker 13: Mary Jane Girls, Patrice Russian, all that and barbecue music.
[29:19] Speaker 13: We're hitting the summer very soon, so it's a summer record.
[29:23] Speaker 13: Roller Skates I parted.
[29:25] Speaker 2: Yes, Oh, I need that, need that. You are also
[29:29] Speaker 2: big on philanthropy. What does community mean to you? What
[29:32] Speaker 2: does it mean to give back? Yeah?
[29:33] Speaker 13: We Community to me means a reflection of self. You know,
[29:37] Speaker 13: we all had someone to hold our hands.
[29:39] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[29:40] Speaker 13: We all came into this world pretty much incapacitated, without
[29:44] Speaker 13: the ability to even hold our heads up.
[29:46] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[29:47] Speaker 13: Then we crawl and then we stand, and then we walk,
[29:50] Speaker 13: and then we run. And so to be that light
[29:53] Speaker 13: for someone or at least involve yourself, it makes life
[29:56] Speaker 13: worth living. And then it's very rewarding to be able
[29:59] Speaker 13: to affect one's life for the positive and elevate because
[30:03] Speaker 13: everyone has a purpose, each and every one of us.
[30:07] Speaker 13: And the simplest thing is your gift and we have
[30:10] Speaker 13: many of those. Yes, So we all come from a
[30:15] Speaker 13: place of needing community, and it's also culturally a part
[30:19] Speaker 13: of us that sometimes society interferes with. And that's the
[30:23] Speaker 13: most functional part of life.
[30:24] Speaker 2: When you are aligned with.
[30:26] Speaker 13: Your community or you create that for others and be
[30:31] Speaker 13: a light in this world that goes so far beyond
[30:34] Speaker 13: what you could even imagine. For sure, just a conversation
[30:37] Speaker 13: can change somebody's trajectory.
[30:39] Speaker 2: No, So that's what this podcast, Keep It Positive Sweety
[30:43] Speaker 2: has been about.
[30:44] Speaker 1: And like, I didn't want to do it at first
[30:45] Speaker 1: because I'm private, and I was like, but in order
[30:48] Speaker 1: to do it, you kind of have to open up
[30:49] Speaker 1: about who you really are, and just talking about it
[30:53] Speaker 1: has built.
[30:53] Speaker 2: A community of healings and growth has.
[30:56] Speaker 1: Just been beautiful. So you are absolutely spot on with that. Yeah, yeah,
[31:01] Speaker 1: kid's family. You guys have seen this next guest, you
[31:05] Speaker 1: have bingelized his new show on Netflix Forever, the one
[31:09] Speaker 1: and only Michael Cooper Junior.
[31:11] Speaker 2: How are you doing.
[31:12] Speaker 8: I'm good, I'm good.
[31:13] Speaker 2: Thanks for having me in very thank you.
[31:16] Speaker 1: Like I literally lit up when you walked up. I
[31:18] Speaker 1: read now, I was like, I looked up and you
[31:20] Speaker 1: were there. Let me just I'm gota give your flowers
[31:22] Speaker 1: right now. You were absolutely phenomenal forever. The way you
[31:26] Speaker 1: captured your character justin it just I don't know, it
[31:30] Speaker 1: was something about you. The way you just he has
[31:33] Speaker 1: a form of adah actually is the way you embody
[31:36] Speaker 1: that Oh my.
[31:37] Speaker 2: God, it was so subtle, but like you could it. Oh,
[31:40] Speaker 2: it was so good.
[31:42] Speaker 1: Yes, from one access to another, I was like, he
[31:44] Speaker 1: really did the character breakdown and really figured out how
[31:46] Speaker 1: to develop this character.
[31:48] Speaker 8: You did it so well, thank you.
[31:49] Speaker 16: Yeah.
[31:50] Speaker 2: So talk about like I want to know, like what
[31:52] Speaker 2: was that process of bringing Justin to life?
[31:54] Speaker 10: Yeah?
[31:55] Speaker 2: I mean it really starts with the writing.
[31:57] Speaker 18: So when I got the script, you know, Mars very
[32:01] Speaker 18: specific with her writing, which is so beautiful. Yes, and
[32:04] Speaker 18: I just remember reading it. He has one foot in confidence,
[32:07] Speaker 18: the other foot of insecurity. You know, he goes to
[32:10] Speaker 18: a speech therapist, and he has ady AHD all these
[32:13] Speaker 18: different things that I thought, you know, I've never seen
[32:16] Speaker 18: a guy like Justin on my TV screen before.
[32:18] Speaker 2: No, no, And so I thought it was a challenge
[32:21] Speaker 2: to step in.
[32:21] Speaker 8: Two and ultimately a gift. He's such a vulnerable dude.
[32:27] Speaker 18: Yeah, And through that character, I was able to be
[32:31] Speaker 18: able to become more vulnerable more in two with my feelings.
[32:36] Speaker 8: So it's a gift and grateful for I love that.
[32:38] Speaker 1: I love that you guys have shifted the culture with
[32:41] Speaker 1: this show. It's something that we needed to see. The
[32:45] Speaker 1: family dynamic that you guys have shown on the show
