[0:09] Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to this episode of Keep It Pause
[0:11] Speaker 1: is Sweetie. Today we are talking about creating a life
[0:14] Speaker 1: of longevity and I have my big brother from another mother,
[0:18] Speaker 1: mister Kenny Burns.
[0:19] Speaker 2: Y'all.
[0:21] Speaker 1: Kenny, you literally you know how to reinvent yourself. You
[0:27] Speaker 1: stay relevant, and I wanted to bring you on because
[0:29] Speaker 1: a lot of people see but they don't really know
[0:31] Speaker 1: the businessman that you are, all your journey and have
[0:35] Speaker 1: the many areas that you've tapped into. So I really
[0:37] Speaker 1: want to touch on a lot of those things. But
[0:38] Speaker 1: when I think about your life, I think about heavy
[0:41] Speaker 1: as the head that where's the crown? Because yeah, because
[0:47] Speaker 1: I know someone of your stature, like it's a lot
[0:50] Speaker 1: of responsibility that falls on you and you know a
[0:52] Speaker 1: lot of people. But with those responsibilities and the rooms
[0:56] Speaker 1: that you're in, I know that gets.
[0:58] Speaker 2: Heavy at time for sure.
[0:59] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:00] Speaker 2: They look for good time Kenny all the time, which
[1:02] Speaker 2: is like the heaviest part you gotta be on. Oh
[1:07] Speaker 2: Kenny's here, good time. Yeah, you don't know what's going
[1:09] Speaker 2: on in my life. It's just you want that light
[1:11] Speaker 2: switch when you want it, And that's been honestly my life.
[1:14] Speaker 1: Wow, from like day one, you've always been.
[1:17] Speaker 2: I've always been good time, Kenny. I think you know,
[1:20] Speaker 2: I think parallel with just being like a good human,
[1:23] Speaker 2: I've always wanted people to be good in my space.
[1:25] Speaker 2: I always wanted people to have the time of their
[1:28] Speaker 2: lives or helped get out of things. Obviously, when I
[1:32] Speaker 2: was younger, I was a little bit of a knucklehead
[1:35] Speaker 2: want to be thugg, but I always had a heart.
[1:38] Speaker 2: That's why hustin never really aligned with my spirit, you know,
[1:41] Speaker 2: and I did it. I mean I was locked up
[1:43] Speaker 2: at eighteen, you know, of high school, lost basketball, scholarships
[1:47] Speaker 2: and opportunities, and you think about life like damn, like
[1:51] Speaker 2: it's really who I am. So my whole life has
[1:54] Speaker 2: been getting to where my passion aligns with my purpose
[1:58] Speaker 2: because I've always had, you know, the energy for both.
[2:01] Speaker 2: It was just about them aligning, and I'm finally aligned.
[2:04] Speaker 1: I love that.
[2:04] Speaker 2: I feel it. Yeah, No, it's deep. It's deep. I'm
[2:08] Speaker 2: denouncing all types of gangster ship that I grew up
[2:11] Speaker 2: on and just all the things you think you're supposed
[2:15] Speaker 2: to be right because society, you know, has its own
[2:18] Speaker 2: playbook for you. And it's sad like when you don't
[2:20] Speaker 2: control your narrative, and for me, it's just about controlling
[2:24] Speaker 2: the narrative, not only for me before my people. Yeah,
[2:26] Speaker 2: I love that.
[2:27] Speaker 1: I remember when I first met you, well even new
[2:31] Speaker 1: of you. I was on the party seeing y'all, and she.
[2:34] Speaker 2: Was outside outside little Red Bones running around.
[2:41] Speaker 1: Hey, we're here, We're here, Yeah, and you were like
[2:46] Speaker 1: I never had seen anyone mc a party like that.
[2:49] Speaker 1: I was like, this man is the life of the party.
[2:51] Speaker 1: And it was always exciting when you were there because
[2:53] Speaker 1: you'd always shout us out. We felt so important, y'all.
[2:56] Speaker 1: He was like my sis prins here by says here Like.
[2:58] Speaker 1: It was like we just really knew, like Kenny Birds
[3:01] Speaker 1: knows us. We felt like somebody in Atlanta. And then
[3:05] Speaker 1: I never remember the first time I actually got to
[3:07] Speaker 1: like get to know you a little better was when
[3:09] Speaker 1: I'm DC Howard homecoming one year. Okay, I had traveled
[3:12] Speaker 1: and we have a mutual friend.
[3:13] Speaker 2: A Mari Ware Yeah, my god, yes.
[3:16] Speaker 1: And you were with him, and then we ended up
[3:18] Speaker 1: running each other and I was like, this is a
[3:20] Speaker 1: really cool guy. I got to see more than just
[3:22] Speaker 1: a guy behind the microphone.
[3:23] Speaker 2: Yes to hang out, Yeah, we got to hang out.
[3:26] Speaker 2: And I'm glad you said that, because I felt like
[3:28] Speaker 2: people see my pictures, and back then it was pictures.
[3:31] Speaker 2: Social media was just starting the pot that's been my
[3:34] Speaker 2: whole life. They like judge me because of like, Okay,
[3:38] Speaker 2: this light skinned dude dresses well, his wife is fine,
[3:41] Speaker 2: all his kids look good. Well, he must be like this,
[3:43] Speaker 2: he must act like this. And I think that's, you know,
[3:47] Speaker 2: served me well, because once they get to know me,
[3:49] Speaker 2: they feel so bad for thinking the things that they think.
[3:52] Speaker 1: I never thought anything.
[3:53] Speaker 2: Well, no prejudgment, it's not. It's like you know you,
[3:55] Speaker 2: like you saying I saw you, well, you had a
[3:57] Speaker 2: bright light and look at you now, like not even
[3:59] Speaker 2: saying that I knew you were going to be Satima.
[4:03] Speaker 2: You know what I'm talking, But knew that you had
[4:05] Speaker 2: a light, saying with Kayla, your whole crew like had
[4:07] Speaker 2: a certain energy. And that's honestly one of my superpowers
[4:10] Speaker 2: to seen people. I see the best in humans, and
[4:12] Speaker 2: I know how to place it and help out when
[4:15] Speaker 2: I can. And just like when I walked in here,
[4:17] Speaker 2: you told me you were doing this, and I was
[4:18] Speaker 2: telling your partner like, well, I know somebody in the thing,
[4:21] Speaker 2: because that's just like my.
[4:22] Speaker 1: First nature to connect guts and help people that that's
[4:26] Speaker 1: who you are. And I really that's probably a testament
[4:29] Speaker 1: to why you've gone so far in life, because you're
[4:32] Speaker 1: not gatekeeper and holding things all to yourself, You're willing
[4:35] Speaker 1: to share.
[4:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a thing called gatekeepers, of course. And then
[4:39] Speaker 2: you have hate keepers, and I think the generation now
[4:42] Speaker 2: are full of hate keepers. And I say hate keepers.
[4:45] Speaker 2: Gatekeepers are in place to make sure the best of
[4:49] Speaker 2: us gets through, which keeps things at a medium. It's
[4:52] Speaker 2: almost like having a middle class an upper class, and
[4:56] Speaker 2: that balance between worlds right now. The hate keepers they
[5:00] Speaker 2: don't want to let go of any of the power
[5:03] Speaker 2: because if it's not in their hands, you know, they
[5:07] Speaker 2: can't you know, run them up. I mean a great
[5:09] Speaker 2: example of that. And I'm not in any way shitting
[5:12] Speaker 2: on Puff, but like so Rock was like his world.
[5:15] Speaker 2: You know, he built that brand to a whole another
[5:18] Speaker 2: thing and to be literally fired from it. But everything
[5:24] Speaker 2: Puff's associated with starts with that nucleus. Not only because
[5:28] Speaker 2: it made him, you know, one hundred million dollars a year,
[5:32] Speaker 2: but like, damn, imagine having But these are the people
[5:35] Speaker 2: in place. And then when you think you can speak
[5:37] Speaker 2: out and say the things you truly feel. I guess
[5:40] Speaker 2: he really felt like like that, you know what I mean,
[5:42] Speaker 2: But then to your world to stop. So that's what
[5:46] Speaker 2: I mean by like hate keepers, Like there are people
[5:48] Speaker 2: in pocket that will get rid of you and do
[5:50] Speaker 2: not need you for whatever reason, no matter how much
[5:52] Speaker 2: money you made them. So I guess I'm giving him
[5:56] Speaker 2: his props foray. But at the same time, you have
[6:00] Speaker 2: to be careful of that because we put too much
[6:02] Speaker 2: faith in people, and then we also don't really understand that, Yeah,
[6:06] Speaker 2: you can say what you want to say, you can
[6:09] Speaker 2: act how you want to act with there are consequences,
[6:11] Speaker 2: and we were not in a generation that feels like
[6:14] Speaker 2: there's any consequences. They just running amuck. They are.
[6:18] Speaker 1: That's so true, so true. I want to go back
[6:20] Speaker 1: to your upbringing. You're from d C. I had a
[6:23] Speaker 1: short stint in DC when I worked on Capitol Hill.
[6:27] Speaker 2: All politicians slash actress slash Yeah, come on, multi hyphenated listen.
[6:34] Speaker 1: I always say that d C was a place that
[6:35] Speaker 1: I found myself. I come from a very small town
[6:39] Speaker 1: and it gave me room to dream because there was
[6:43] Speaker 1: nothing else to do there. I could just dream and
[6:45] Speaker 1: I moved to d C after college, and that was
[6:48] Speaker 1: the place I really found. I found my sense of style,
[6:50] Speaker 1: I found who I was. I was by myself, away
[6:53] Speaker 1: from family, and I remember talking to Mary Hardwick and
[6:56] Speaker 1: he was saying, if you want to be an actor,
[6:58] Speaker 1: everybody says, go to school, go to acting school. Well
[7:00] Speaker 1: he said, I tell you to leave home. And I
[7:02] Speaker 1: was like, oh my god, you're right, because when I
[7:04] Speaker 1: left home, that's when she got rich. So I always
[7:07] Speaker 1: say d C is where I found myself. But you
[7:10] Speaker 1: grew up in d C. Tell me about that time,
[7:12] Speaker 1: like as a youngster, and like going to Howard and
[7:17] Speaker 1: running alongside you and Puffer school.
[7:20] Speaker 2: They're older than me. No, So I never went to Howard.
[7:28] Speaker 2: Jessica went to she graduated, but Howard.
[7:32] Speaker 1: Was shout out, jess we love your beautiful self.
[7:36] Speaker 2: Yes, she told me she love you, she's proud of you,
[7:40] Speaker 2: and she wants to come and all things.
[7:42] Speaker 1: So I wish she had brought her. Yeah, but y'all
[7:44] Speaker 1: got to come back over for this.
[7:45] Speaker 2: Absolutely, for y'all. You want to come Loveland first.
[7:50] Speaker 1: I want to come there first, Yes, so I can
[7:51] Speaker 1: see what she do set here.
[7:55] Speaker 2: Because she wanted her to come over here. No, but DC.
[8:00] Speaker 2: You know, first and foremost, d C is a melting
[8:03] Speaker 2: pot of all amazing things and so many cultures. Like
[8:07] Speaker 2: when I was growing up, I first heard Elvis Crestwall,
[8:10] Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. With the Spanish side of
[8:12] Speaker 2: what you know was happening in DC, I learned about Felakute,
[8:16] Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, Like with the whole African
[8:19] Speaker 2: you know diasporas, that's there, and then you know, then
[8:23] Speaker 2: there's d C. In d C, we have our own
[8:25] Speaker 2: formal music. Yes, we have our own sense of style.
[8:29] Speaker 2: Like I called d C the drive through because of
[8:31] Speaker 2: Howard University. Ironically, you know, people would come to d C,
[8:35] Speaker 2: go to Howard and then they would meet the DC
[8:36] Speaker 2: guy girl and stay, get married and have a life.
[8:42] Speaker 2: But yeah, they came to Howard and took a lot
[8:44] Speaker 2: of our style too. Like when you look at like
[8:46] Speaker 2: Herbie Lovebug and his whole movement that includes song Peppa
[8:49] Speaker 2: camp Play, all of it was go go. All the
[8:51] Speaker 2: music was go go, and so we don't get a
[8:53] Speaker 2: lot of credit. I called DC the drive through and
[8:56] Speaker 2: it's cool, you know what I'm saying. But we had
[8:58] Speaker 2: some bright spots. You know obviously in music and contribution
[9:03] Speaker 2: in the last couple of decades. But it's blessing coming
[9:06] Speaker 2: from DC because it was truly a melting pot where
[9:08] Speaker 2: I learned a lot of my superpowers.
[9:10] Speaker 1: Absolutely, I experienced my first go go that weekend that
[9:13] Speaker 1: we were in DC. He was like, we gotta go here.
[9:15] Speaker 1: So we went there and I was just like, and
[9:17] Speaker 1: I had lived in DC, it never went to a
[9:18] Speaker 1: like to a go go, I was mind blown.
[9:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a part talent also pocket musically, Yeah, and
[9:25] Speaker 2: you get it's like it's like, even if you don't dance,
[9:28] Speaker 2: you start your body. Yeah, don't let you see somebody
[9:32] Speaker 2: who like child, it's gonna be a I don't know
[9:35] Speaker 2: what type of dance that's called, but it's sexual.
[9:37] Speaker 1: It's very scent.
[9:39] Speaker 2: Right.
[9:41] Speaker 1: How did you go from? How did you even get
[9:42] Speaker 1: into party promoting?
[9:45] Speaker 2: So when I was a senior in high school, I
[9:47] Speaker 2: got locked up. My senior and I was a basketball
[9:50] Speaker 2: you know, I wasn't I wouldn't say I was a star,
[9:51] Speaker 2: but I was good and could have been great if
[9:54] Speaker 2: I chose basketball over the streets. But I was in
[9:56] Speaker 2: the streets, and you know, the year before that, my
[9:59] Speaker 2: junior I started going to light We got the fake Id's.
[10:01] Speaker 2: We started going to the Ritz and the Chicago's like
[10:04] Speaker 2: all the clubs, and I just loved the energy of
[10:08] Speaker 2: what it was. Puff was I think at Howard my
[10:11] Speaker 2: junior year, and they would do parties like at the
[10:14] Speaker 2: Opera and things like that. We were going. We were
[10:16] Speaker 2: in the streets, so we had a little bit of money,
[10:18] Speaker 2: Like who these young men? I know they really not,
[10:21] Speaker 2: but we had the fake IDs. So we were at all
[10:23] Speaker 2: the club and so it just became a good time
[10:29] Speaker 2: kind of thing. And then when I got locked up,
[10:31] Speaker 2: I was like, you know, I need to do something
[10:32] Speaker 2: because clearly I'm not going to be playing basketball anymore.
[10:37] Speaker 2: How can I make this money? So me and my
[10:40] Speaker 2: friend Garnet we had a fly Guy Promotions. We created
[10:44] Speaker 2: that my senior year and we tried to do this
[10:46] Speaker 2: one party where these parties were happening, so we kind
[10:50] Speaker 2: of slide in and take the energy from the place.
[10:52] Speaker 2: We knew a lot of people when we were kind
[10:54] Speaker 2: of smart a little bit. Anyway, the lights didn't work
[10:57] Speaker 2: the night or something power went out. We had all
[10:59] Speaker 2: these people, so I was like, wait, I can move
[11:01] Speaker 2: people like that. And my cousin simultaneously had been accepted
[11:05] Speaker 2: the Morehouse College. So fast forward a year. I couldn't
[11:08] Speaker 2: go anywhere because of my situation and tried to enroll
[11:13] Speaker 2: in junior college to play basketball. End up pushing somebody
[11:16] Speaker 2: out the air child. The bleachers cleared, and it was
[11:19] Speaker 2: a whole man lage. So it was like, Okay, I'm
[11:21] Speaker 2: gonna stop playing basketball for real, sup trying? He said,
[11:25] Speaker 2: come to freaknik And literally I came to freaking nineteen
[11:29] Speaker 2: ninety two and it changed my life. Freak wow, freaking
[11:33] Speaker 2: ninety two. I had had Howard University as my backdrop
[11:37] Speaker 2: growing up, but I had never saw so many black
[11:39] Speaker 2: people from all over the country that were just like
[11:43] Speaker 2: trying to figure it out. I think that era was
[11:46] Speaker 2: obviously the era that took hip hop to a trillion dollars.
[11:49] Speaker 2: I mean literally our generation took it to a trillion
[11:53] Speaker 2: dollar business. But we were like, we had so much opportunity.
[11:57] Speaker 2: There was so much going on. We were like, wait,
[11:59] Speaker 2: what is this? And then show enough. What didn't happen
[12:02] Speaker 2: in DC happened for me here in Atlanta.
[12:04] Speaker 1: Wow, that's amazing. So you worked your way into the
[12:07] Speaker 1: music industry and you had worked with from Biggie and
[12:12] Speaker 1: Puff to Jay Clark Kent as a marketer and strategist.
[12:16] Speaker 1: Tell Us, is there any stories that you can share
[12:18] Speaker 1: just about that journey, Like any funny, like something that
[12:20] Speaker 1: was crazy that happened that you could share. There wasn't Like.
[12:25] Speaker 2: I've shared a lot of them. But I think one
[12:28] Speaker 2: of the moments for me that really changed my life
[12:32] Speaker 2: was like I had been throwing parties in Atlanta. You
[12:34] Speaker 2: know the Big Puff you know fight that happened Freak
[12:39] Speaker 2: Nick ninety four. A lot of people know that story.
[12:41] Speaker 2: But after the parties, Andre Herrel was leaving Uptown to
[12:47] Speaker 2: start Motown and from bringing Clark Kent to Atlanta so
[12:54] Speaker 2: many times he asked me to go on the road
[12:55] Speaker 2: with him. So Clark would take me to Shaq's house.
[12:58] Speaker 2: Shaq would bring us every two weeks when he played
[13:00] Speaker 2: for the Orlando Magic, Like every two weeks, talent would
[13:04] Speaker 2: open for Clark. I would be on with Clark. I know,
[13:06] Speaker 2: it was crazy. And then so I'm moving around literally
[13:10] Speaker 2: the world with Clark and I'm on the mic, and
[13:13] Speaker 2: so Andre Herrel was leaving Uptown and Clark called me
[13:18] Speaker 2: and was like, yo, I just got seven fifty. This
[13:21] Speaker 2: man is paying white executive salaries, Like you need to
[13:25] Speaker 2: figure out how to get in Motown. I was like, okay.
[13:29] Speaker 2: How simultaneously, my parole officer called me and was like
[13:35] Speaker 2: I had a warrant, right, So they came to Atlanta
[13:36] Speaker 2: looking for me. Said I wasn't reporting. I'm like, you
[13:39] Speaker 2: get my paper, like when you said I don't know
[13:40] Speaker 2: what it is, I'm trying to figure out. I'm just
[13:41] Speaker 2: letting you know. So ironically, Andre Herrel was going to Washington,
[13:46] Speaker 2: DC and he wanted to do a party, and Clark
[13:49] Speaker 2: was like, this is the best way you could do it.
[13:50] Speaker 2: I was like, well, I'm kind of on the run, literally,
[13:53] Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. Like I got to get back
[13:54] Speaker 2: because Extra Dish was like six months. I was like,
[13:56] Speaker 2: let me get to d C because that's where the
[13:58] Speaker 2: charge was. So ironically saying weekend, I threw a party
[14:01] Speaker 2: for Andre Herral. He literally was like, you know, he
[14:05] Speaker 2: likes Don Piion, he likes women who look like Crystal
[14:09] Speaker 2: and Kayla and the crew, and please just get the thing,
[14:12] Speaker 2: you know, get the thing together. I think, no problem.
[14:13] Speaker 2: So at this time, Chris Webber, Juwan Howard Rashid Wallace
[14:17] Speaker 2: were all playing for the bullets. This is wild. I'm over.
[14:21] Speaker 2: So they were all like, you know, they were at
[14:23] Speaker 2: the you know, in their prime. And I threw a
[14:25] Speaker 2: party and literally, when I tell you, had a battle
[14:29] Speaker 2: of a couple of hours of pair waiting for her
[14:31] Speaker 2: and my friends. The way, I didn't get there yet.
[14:33] Speaker 2: I just wanted him to kind of come and be
[14:35] Speaker 2: escorted to his seat and be impressed by the time
[14:38] Speaker 2: I came in. This is the classic Andre herral poice.
[14:41] Speaker 2: He was like, oh, this slice skinned niggah. He was
[14:46] Speaker 2: just going on and on about what I had put
[14:49] Speaker 2: together and I'm talking about like party wise and ambiance wise,
[14:54] Speaker 2: and he was like, what do you do? And He's like,
[15:00] Speaker 2: your DC fly to look at your nigga. So I
[15:03] Speaker 2: was like, I'm Kenny Burns. I want you to have
[15:06] Speaker 2: a good time. Clark told me to take care of
[15:08] Speaker 2: He's like, no, no, nigga, what do do? And I
[15:14] Speaker 2: was like, I make it happen, you know period. Yeah,
[15:16] Speaker 2: Like what do you need next? You take you fly nigga,
[15:20] Speaker 2: Shit down, nigga next to the butter way these nixcuse
[15:22] Speaker 2: move up. Let this kick it up. I'm sitting down
[15:25] Speaker 2: and I'm just like, first of all, Uptown was the
[15:28] Speaker 2: soundtrack of my life. So as a kid, like you
[15:31] Speaker 2: think about I'll be sure a guy, you know, the
[15:34] Speaker 2: introduction of Mary J like Heavy D in the Boys,
[15:37] Speaker 2: and I'm like, I'm sitting here with and like and
[15:39] Speaker 2: most people back then were, you know, overly impressed by
[15:43] Speaker 2: the exacutive. But I was like he was the one
[15:46] Speaker 2: to exactly long story short. He was like, look na
[15:50] Speaker 2: get to New York City and Monday morning hotown record Snick.
[15:53] Speaker 2: If you want to Nick, you got to show me
[15:55] Speaker 2: what you can do, say less. I was at eight am.
[16:01] Speaker 2: He didn't get into ten.
[16:01] Speaker 1: He came, It's like, oh sit the Snicker came this
[16:04] Speaker 1: flood DC flat Nigga with the butter Wabies some period.
[16:09] Speaker 2: The bubbles, and I was like, I want to work,
[16:13] Speaker 2: and he was like, what do you do? I said,
[16:15] Speaker 2: I'm good in the street. Put the snickas street team
[16:18] Speaker 2: market in give him sixty thousand a year. I was like,
[16:21] Speaker 2: word like me throwing you a party got me sixty
[16:25] Speaker 2: thousand a year old money, now, mind you. I mean
[16:27] Speaker 2: I probably was making more like you know, doing my
[16:30] Speaker 2: thing as far as the parties and stuff, but it
[16:32] Speaker 2: was like the opportunity to be in a building. But
[16:34] Speaker 2: when I got in the building, Crystal, it was lights out.
[16:38] Speaker 2: Joe Jacks, he gave me free ran. I went from
[16:40] Speaker 2: sixty to eighty to one twenty and a year and
[16:43] Speaker 2: a half and I was just getting opportunities. But you know,
[16:45] Speaker 2: for the first time in my life outside of Clark
[16:49] Speaker 2: Kent and my brother went to White you know wonder
[16:52] Speaker 2: But like he saw me and paid me. You know
[16:56] Speaker 2: what I'm saying, Like he saw me. He's like, here's
[16:58] Speaker 2: the chat yet literally, and I was like, oh, okay,
[17:01] Speaker 2: this is the thing. So I went and ran Amunky.
[17:04] Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I remember when he passed that I didn't
[17:10] Speaker 1: know the relationship that you had, but yeah, I remember
[17:13] Speaker 1: that affected you deeply.
[17:14] Speaker 2: No, deeply, And I think that that was the start
[17:16] Speaker 2: of the change in me too, just who I was.
[17:20] Speaker 2: I've always been who I am to this industry. But
[17:22] Speaker 2: it was me, not co signing anything else, not that
[17:26] Speaker 2: I ever co signed it, but being around it is
[17:28] Speaker 2: co signing and I want people to know that. You know,
[17:32] Speaker 2: I never walked to Brooklyn for cheesecake. That was never
[17:34] Speaker 2: in my DNA. But I also was around when bullshit
[17:38] Speaker 2: was going down and see I would have removed myself
[17:40] Speaker 2: because it was none of my business. But it is
[17:41] Speaker 2: my business, and that's that's where I am now. As
[17:44] Speaker 2: far as when I tell you, passion meeting purpose, like
[17:46] Speaker 2: I can't, nothing can go on checked anymore. Yeah, you know,
[17:50] Speaker 2: And that's what I think as a culture we need
[17:51] Speaker 2: to do more of. But speaking of when when Dre died,
[17:55] Speaker 2: like I was with Dre the last three years of
[17:57] Speaker 2: his life, and one of the saddest things was that
[18:00] Speaker 2: this man I met and you just heard the story
[18:02] Speaker 2: I told you, but this man I met has so
[18:04] Speaker 2: much reverence for and so much respect for who taught
[18:07] Speaker 2: me about art and how to you know, match it
[18:09] Speaker 2: all together. You know. It's one thing to have a
[18:12] Speaker 2: you know Bentley, but you're living in a condo. You know,
[18:15] Speaker 2: I'm talking about the three hundred four hundred thus one condole,
[18:17] Speaker 2: I know, not the p Yeah, your car costs so
[18:20] Speaker 2: much money. So it's like or looking the part and
[18:23] Speaker 2: not actually having it, you know what I mean. And
[18:25] Speaker 2: so I was going through this industry with blinders on
[18:29] Speaker 2: in the last three years of his life. Taught me
[18:31] Speaker 2: so much because not only did was he dying, literally
[18:34] Speaker 2: he had you know, had triple bypass surgery like years
[18:37] Speaker 2: before this, but he was looking different, he was acting different,
[18:40] Speaker 2: he was breathing different, and all this heart you know,
[18:42] Speaker 2: you had heart surgery, triple like the biggest shit. You're
[18:45] Speaker 2: black widow whatever they call it, the widow maker, you
[18:47] Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. But you're going through all these things.
[18:50] Speaker 2: And at the same time, it hurts my heart because
[18:54] Speaker 2: he was not believing in himself like the man who
[18:57] Speaker 2: put all this shit in perspective for all of us.
[19:01] Speaker 2: He brought lifestyle to the game before Andre and I
[19:04] Speaker 2: would give Russell similar credit, you know obviously for run dmc,
[19:08] Speaker 2: deaf Jams, so forth and so. But Dre made it sexy.
[19:11] Speaker 2: Drey made it aspirational for everybody, not just the hood. Yes,
[19:16] Speaker 2: you could be you know what I mean, anybody, any
[19:18] Speaker 2: race and want to be the best version of yourself.
[19:22] Speaker 2: And I felt like he was the mean to a molecule,
[19:26] Speaker 2: like he was not himself. He was not poured into
[19:29] Speaker 2: I mean outside of me like O'Neil and Nathan and
[19:32] Speaker 2: like his immediate you know circle. But it was just
[19:35] Speaker 2: wild to me because someone who had all that fighting
[19:40] Speaker 2: to still be heard after all after that, Yeah, yeah,
[19:44] Speaker 2: it was crazy.
[19:45] Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, did he inspire you? You launched your
[19:47] Speaker 1: own record label and started a girl group. Dream was
[19:53] Speaker 1: andre a part of that inspiration.
[19:55] Speaker 2: He signed Dream Wow. Like every step like of the
[19:59] Speaker 2: way since I met him, he had been a major
[20:03] Speaker 2: piece to my puzzle, you know. And it's just ironic
[20:06] Speaker 2: how life is too right, like because we weren't given
[20:09] Speaker 2: a blueprint on how to do it right. We were
[20:12] Speaker 2: given a blueprint. It was fucked up shit in the
[20:15] Speaker 2: middle of that blueprint, like even thought process, Like I'm
[20:18] Speaker 2: in the club selling fantasy the first seven eight years
[20:22] Speaker 2: of my marriage, like you know what I mean, but
[20:24] Speaker 2: making women think they could have me and I go home.
[20:27] Speaker 2: But at the same time, now this person, now that
[20:30] Speaker 2: wasn't the shit to do. They gonna still won't you.
[20:33] Speaker 2: I put the shit on, I smell good. It's just
[20:35] Speaker 2: things that I offer. But you ain't got to be
[20:37] Speaker 2: in the touch yourself if you love yourself. Damn, getting
[20:41] Speaker 2: panis thrown at me, you know what I'm talking about.
[20:43] Speaker 2: But I just think they were taught these things. Yes,
[20:46] Speaker 2: Like we're literally taught that. You know, you're supposed to
[20:48] Speaker 2: have this and do this and move out, But no,
[20:50] Speaker 2: it's like the real things that really feel you, like
[20:55] Speaker 2: like fill your cup. Like I just think I had
[20:58] Speaker 2: learned all that in my processes versus you know, being
[21:01] Speaker 2: taught that early. Yeah, I love that.
[21:04] Speaker 1: And how long did it take? You talk about you
[21:08] Speaker 1: sould women in fantasy that can have you, but knowing
[21:10] Speaker 1: that Jessica had you. Oh you're saying yeah, but what
[21:14] Speaker 1: what was the transition of being like you know what
[21:17] Speaker 1: this seemed for me?
[21:17] Speaker 2: Like, let me start this, yeah, real talk. I didn't
[21:20] Speaker 2: want to be the old nigga in the club. I
[21:21] Speaker 2: was already the party king at forty. And I think
[21:24] Speaker 2: times have changed, right. You don't kind of look at
[21:27] Speaker 2: forty year olds fifty year olds like you did when
[21:29] Speaker 2: we were young. And honestly, our parents were tapping out
[21:32] Speaker 2: at fifty. They was like, okay, retirements and such, such
[21:34] Speaker 2: and such. They stopped dressing. They just it's like I'm
[21:38] Speaker 2: not yes, I'm not going fine, you can have it.
[21:41] Speaker 2: I think we have a little bit more zes for life.
[21:42] Speaker 2: We understand the value of life. We've created the industry
[21:46] Speaker 2: that we don't have to stop. There's transition as far
[21:49] Speaker 2: as like your creativity and how you want to show
[21:51] Speaker 2: up and you know, I feel like I didn't want
[21:56] Speaker 2: to be the old guy in the club. But then
[21:58] Speaker 2: also too, I wasn't in it musically anymore. I just
[22:02] Speaker 2: had a conversation the other day it was like, for
[22:04] Speaker 2: the first time in my life, I don't feel like
[22:05] Speaker 2: my post my my hand is on the postal culture
[22:08] Speaker 2: and not and I'm talking about young culture yea. Like
[22:10] Speaker 2: having that skill set my entire life kept me in
[22:13] Speaker 2: the game, yes, right, knowing what youngest to go getting that,
[22:16] Speaker 2: mind you, I do know how to spot ti talent
[22:19] Speaker 2: far and few in between. Every time a ten year
[22:22] Speaker 2: gap goes though, And I it's harder for me now
[22:26] Speaker 2: to come, oh you come, oh, let me get you
[22:28] Speaker 2: because ideals change, yes, values change, and what you want
[22:33] Speaker 2: in the game change, and because we don't have any
[22:37] Speaker 2: real gatekeepers anymore. Like I challenge all of my my
[22:40] Speaker 2: youngest that are like they're all vps and head of this,
[22:43] Speaker 2: that and the third, and I challenge like, would you
[22:44] Speaker 2: want your son listen to that bullshit you promote? Would you?
[22:48] Speaker 2: And it's not good now I have to write and
[22:50] Speaker 2: it's because no one is doing it. No, no one
[22:52] Speaker 2: is holding Like if you look at these We were
[22:54] Speaker 2: having a conversation on my podcast the other day. If
[22:57] Speaker 2: the Black executives walked out of these buildings and went
[23:01] Speaker 2: on strike until they were able to sign honestly what
[23:04] Speaker 2: they're passionate about or what was better or best for
[23:07] Speaker 2: our community, they would have to listen. Wow, because right
[23:11] Speaker 2: now they're searching for the op you know, they're searching
[23:14] Speaker 2: for the gang member, for young thug to be even
[23:17] Speaker 2: in the mindset he's in right now or was in
[23:20] Speaker 2: prior to even being a millionaire, having put people on
[23:24] Speaker 2: those amazing things with the hood, but yet you're still
[23:26] Speaker 2: with the bullshit, So what do you think is going
[23:28] Speaker 2: to happen? But we it's almost like us getting them
[23:31] Speaker 2: folding chairs. I remember them folding chairs, Right, We're gonna
[23:34] Speaker 2: come rescue, bubbing them. Goddamn, you ain't gonna just be
[23:38] Speaker 2: But at the same time, you got Ray Ray on
[23:40] Speaker 2: the corner selling a dope to your auntie.
[23:43] Speaker 1: You're not talking to him.
[23:44] Speaker 2: Your mom was on the pipe and Reggie responsible, So
[23:48] Speaker 2: we don't we're confused in our thought process. But that
[23:51] Speaker 2: was where I think I started to have Like when
[23:53] Speaker 2: I left the club. It wasn't because I don't love
[23:56] Speaker 2: people I mean officely, that host essence, our host, you know,
[23:59] Speaker 2: strength of a woman. I do all these amazing black
[24:02] Speaker 2: timpole events, right, and that's purposeful because I want to
[24:05] Speaker 2: be Alne like I love people. I do not want
[24:07] Speaker 2: to entertain. I'm the best to do it. I don't
[24:09] Speaker 2: have no records. I don't, but if any artist is
[24:12] Speaker 2: on the same stage, they're gonna think about, Okay, Kenny's here.
[24:14] Speaker 2: I gotta make sure I do the thing because this
[24:17] Speaker 2: nigga's gonna come out. Yes, do my song literally, so anyway,
[24:23] Speaker 2: I want to keep that energy. But I also want
[24:24] Speaker 2: to be who I'm supposed to be, not even just
[24:28] Speaker 2: for my family and my children, but for the people
[24:31] Speaker 2: that look to me. How am I gonna be outside
[24:34] Speaker 2: with a boot full of women and I'm married, you
[24:37] Speaker 2: know what I'm saying, Like, that's not doesn't And I
[24:39] Speaker 2: was like that for a long time, not that I
[24:41] Speaker 2: was doing anything with anybody, but the look y'all was
[24:44] Speaker 2: in the boot. But it's like, yeah, but they don't
[24:47] Speaker 2: know what, Like our relationship is, how I wing y'all
[24:49] Speaker 2: and we had real, you know, camaraderie for each other
[24:53] Speaker 2: versus the look exactly.
[24:56] Speaker 1: That's a real thing, per perspective is everything and O
[25:00] Speaker 1: look at something like.
[25:00] Speaker 2: But they gonna look at it like, oh, he got off. No,
[25:03] Speaker 2: that's Pat, that's not me. That's Patrick Richard. That is
[25:06] Speaker 2: not me. Shout out, shout out, pushy pee man, one
[25:10] Speaker 2: of my favorites. Man. So but that's another thing too,
[25:13] Speaker 2: like when you look at life like who are you
[25:15] Speaker 2: putting it? Look at Pat? Now you know what I'm saying. Yes, yeah,
[25:19] Speaker 2: And that's what I'm most proud of. Things like that,
[25:22] Speaker 2: even you like speaking life in you or like whomever
[25:25] Speaker 2: I've come across has felt the energy and used it,
[25:28] Speaker 2: whether they did what I asked him to do or
[25:29] Speaker 2: told them they should do, They've taken a piece of
[25:31] Speaker 2: the energy and applied.
[25:34] Speaker 1: I love that you spoke about executives saying he would
[25:41] Speaker 1: I know you have two beautiful sons.
[25:46] Speaker 2: Make me cry, don't make me crazy crazy? Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
[25:56] Speaker 2: My son, Kyle Burns graduated Wheel High School uh spring
[26:00] Speaker 2: twenty twenty two. He reported in June wasn't feeling well.
[26:05] Speaker 2: I think starting at the end of June, came home
[26:08] Speaker 2: a couple of times well, you know, not talking about
[26:10] Speaker 2: it because it was like I had X or whatever
[26:11] Speaker 2: I'm keeping moving. A good friend of the family and
[26:16] Speaker 2: actually the son of his high school coach died shooting
[26:20] Speaker 2: the hooch and drowned. And he came home for the funeral,
[26:25] Speaker 2: and literally the morning of the funeral, he couldn't get
[26:28] Speaker 2: out of bed and it was eight am. Took him
[26:30] Speaker 2: to the hospital one o'clock. He was in surgery. Had
[26:32] Speaker 2: a brain access that was caused by a science infection. Yep.
[26:37] Speaker 2: So if your babies are cold too long, sin and see,
[26:42] Speaker 2: go to the doctor. I never heard of anything like this,
[26:44] Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. So I'm out of town,
[26:46] Speaker 2: get the call. He's in surgery. Just as like damn
[26:49] Speaker 2: the passing out on FaceTime. I'm like, wait, let me
[26:52] Speaker 2: get you know. So I was on the way and
[26:54] Speaker 2: you know, the first surgery they didn't get it all,
[26:57] Speaker 2: so they had to go to another surgery two weeks later.
[26:59] Speaker 2: So this is cutting his skull off of his head
[27:03] Speaker 2: and literally, you know, him being without a skull to
[27:06] Speaker 2: January fourth of this year, got a fake skull put
[27:11] Speaker 2: back on, and literally last Monday, he got home from Japan,
[27:17] Speaker 2: where he played his first three games in a row.
[27:20] Speaker 2: Not even the year August twenty seventh was the first
[27:22] Speaker 2: surgery last year, so not even a full year ago.
[27:28] Speaker 2: And he's a miracle. But you know it's I had
[27:30] Speaker 2: never been tested. And to be honest with you, I'm great.
[27:33] Speaker 2: You turn into a great interview. You want to add
[27:35] Speaker 2: this to your your chiron or whatever. But I literally
[27:39] Speaker 2: changed again, right like and for the better, because my
[27:43] Speaker 2: entire life I have blinders on, meaning like I would
[27:46] Speaker 2: compartmentalize everything literally though like literally, oh shit, put it.
[27:52] Speaker 2: I would feel it. I would feel it just so
[27:54] Speaker 2: I could oh shit, this okay, but I would put
[27:57] Speaker 2: it away. And I think us as black men and
[27:59] Speaker 2: black women, we do that because of what we have
[28:03] Speaker 2: to do. That mind you, this whole year, my son
[28:06] Speaker 2: was going through his thing, and I'm talking about this
[28:08] Speaker 2: was life or death. This wasn't like you know, this
[28:11] Speaker 2: was like he could go and I'm having to go
[28:14] Speaker 2: show up and host and you know, be this light
[28:16] Speaker 2: and be this energy. Right And to this day, a
[28:19] Speaker 2: lot of people still don't ask me. I mean, they
[28:21] Speaker 2: see him all, I'm glad he's all right, but they
[28:23] Speaker 2: have no clue what it took to show up every
[28:27] Speaker 2: time I gotta show up. But in saying that, though,
[28:31] Speaker 2: you know, people look at the burns, it's like they're
[28:33] Speaker 2: gonna be all right. And I'm sure a lot of
[28:35] Speaker 2: people out there feel this, like, oh they doing good,
[28:37] Speaker 2: they gonna be alright, And you know what we are,
[28:40] Speaker 2: and you know, I receive that and I take that
[28:42] Speaker 2: as a blessing. I don't try and judge, Or told
[28:45] Speaker 2: Jessica the other day, we judge everybody for their lack
[28:47] Speaker 2: of consistency. We would have no friends. Wow. But that's life.
[28:53] Speaker 2: And you're not supposed to put what you would do
[28:56] Speaker 2: on somebody else. You're just not supposed to do that,
[28:59] Speaker 2: you know what I mean, Because everybody can't handle what
[29:01] Speaker 2: you can handle and that's life and life be life
[29:02] Speaker 2: in child.
[29:04] Speaker 1: Hell during that time, I know, just naturally your faith
[29:09] Speaker 1: was stretched.
[29:10] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, how like, how did you work through that?
[29:13] Speaker 1: Besides just keep.
[29:14] Speaker 2: Showing up pray you know, received all the prayer energy
[29:18] Speaker 2: from the warriors out there that had us, and never
[29:21] Speaker 2: really wavered from what was what was gonna be. You
[29:23] Speaker 2: know what I'm saying, because in life is either or
[29:25] Speaker 2: that's right, and that's drastic, but it's the truth, you know,
[29:28] Speaker 2: And we're getting older, we're gonna lose people y'all. Yeah, me,
[29:32] Speaker 2: every week, every week, Clarence Avanche is fact, Like every
[29:35] Speaker 2: week we're losing superheroes, We're losing family members. You know
[29:39] Speaker 2: that year my father died January first, twenty twenty two.
[29:43] Speaker 2: You know, Kyle had his surgeries, Kenny towards ACL you know,
[29:49] Speaker 2: diagnosis for friends with cancer like you just it's life,
[29:52] Speaker 2: you know. But one thing you cannot do is do
[29:54] Speaker 2: the war as me. That's right. You know, we gonna
[29:56] Speaker 2: catch haymakers, y'all. We gonna catch things and test our faith,
[30:00] Speaker 2: test our you know, abilities to continue. Like I was
[30:06] Speaker 2: telling him just the other day, how much money we got, right, okay,
[30:09] Speaker 2: paid everything and do okay, okay, cause I'm just you know,
[30:12] Speaker 2: you get tired. I'm not. And I said this the
[30:15] Speaker 2: other day and somebody was in you ain't quitting. You
[30:18] Speaker 2: can't quit. We need you, digg funk you're talking about
[30:21] Speaker 2: And so I'm not quitting. But I think, like you know,
[30:24] Speaker 2: to our conversation before we start the podcast, i'd rather
[30:28] Speaker 2: be heard. You know. This scene thing is, it comes
[30:31] Speaker 2: with a lot, and I'm not even what like I
[30:33] Speaker 2: don't do what you do, Like I'm not even you know,
[30:35] Speaker 2: rumored to have seen this, that and the third and
[30:37] Speaker 2: with this that and the third, and I don't I
[30:39] Speaker 2: don't have those. But I'm very you know, I think
[30:42] Speaker 2: I'm probably the most noticeable non celebrity in the world. Absolutely,
[30:45] Speaker 2: And I feel like though it gets heavy because you
[30:49] Speaker 2: only see the good time Kenny, and I'm tired of
[30:53] Speaker 2: being good time Kenny. I'm not tired of giving you
[30:54] Speaker 2: a good time. I'm not tired of the joke. Yeah, man,
[30:58] Speaker 2: come on, let me be humor.
[31:00] Speaker 1: Sh You don't want the expectation of every time you
[31:04] Speaker 1: walk in the room, all right, niggas.
[31:06] Speaker 2: Last tell And I'm not even commeding although my comedic
[31:11] Speaker 2: time and it's been amazing, it's very much so. You
[31:15] Speaker 2: know you are funny.
[31:17] Speaker 1: I know they can be annoying.
[31:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, you know. You just wanted also to again a line.
[31:23] Speaker 2: You know, you you grow and evolve, and the things
[31:25] Speaker 2: that you adore you're no longer adore like you. I
[31:28] Speaker 2: adored the streets. I was so thankful for having learned
[31:31] Speaker 2: the things I learned. I'm still thankful, but I'm not
[31:34] Speaker 2: condoning anything else. Street like I would give the hustler
[31:37] Speaker 2: the benefit of the doubt. But you gotta transform, my sister,
[31:40] Speaker 2: you can't continue. And then you know, we don't even
[31:43] Speaker 2: have honest hustlers anymore.
[31:45] Speaker 1: We got thieves literally, thieves and scammers.
[31:47] Speaker 2: Like, we got thieves and scammers, Like, where's the audacity
[31:51] Speaker 2: to hustle? Like, if you're in the street and you
[31:53] Speaker 2: got one way and you can get this amount, to
[31:56] Speaker 2: get this amount, I'm not going to head. Once you
[31:58] Speaker 2: get this amount, you have to do the thing. You
[32:01] Speaker 2: have to do the thing. And I know I've saved
[32:03] Speaker 2: so many lives because of my example, but not even
[32:06] Speaker 2: just my example, my actual tutele list. I've given people
[32:09] Speaker 2: the game. I've created opportunities for them to transition, but
[32:12] Speaker 2: like to know better and not do better. I just
[32:15] Speaker 2: can't go. Yeah, I can't go anymore. I love that.
[32:18] Speaker 1: It's the evolution of Kenny Burns.
[32:19] Speaker 2: I'm loving it.
[32:23] Speaker 1: You talked about having to show up and put a
[32:27] Speaker 1: smile on, especially when you're going through the things with
[32:29] Speaker 1: your son Kyle. I was just I had even Marcel
[32:33] Speaker 1: on recently and we were talking that morning before she
[32:38] Speaker 1: had pulled up. I was in my closet crying and
[32:39] Speaker 1: going through some things personally. And then you have to
[32:42] Speaker 1: wipe the tears off. Literally tell yourself, shake it off
[32:45] Speaker 1: and then go out and put it's on your face.
[32:47] Speaker 1: And that gets really heavy. And a lot of people
[32:51] Speaker 1: don't see that side of our lives, especially people who
[32:54] Speaker 1: are in the public eye. They think that everything is
[32:57] Speaker 1: just so sweet. And I try to I try to
[33:01] Speaker 1: be more transparent about the days that I'm not so
[33:05] Speaker 1: happy so that people can see that, oh, like she
[33:07] Speaker 1: doesn't have every day is not perfect for her either.
[33:10] Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm gonna give you some advice with that.
[33:13] Speaker 2: Please don't share everything. And I say that because to
[33:19] Speaker 2: give people an opportunity to comment opens up a Pandora's
[33:23] Speaker 2: box sometimes, especially in our world, and I feel like,
[33:27] Speaker 2: you know, a trusted circle of people to springboard and
[33:30] Speaker 2: bounce things off of is the way to go. And
[33:33] Speaker 2: I would honestly encourage more of the mystique because you know,
[33:37] Speaker 2: to know you obviously, like I do, is to see
[33:41] Speaker 2: the inner light and the things that people don't get
[33:43] Speaker 2: to see all the time. But at the same time,
[33:44] Speaker 2: it's kind of cool that people don't even know all
[33:46] Speaker 2: the time and leave them guessing. Because one thing we
[33:49] Speaker 2: have to accept in our businesses they gonna talk child,
[33:51] Speaker 2: They're gonna have some opinions. Child, they're gonna just be like, okay,
[33:54] Speaker 2: but your fingernail polisch right, and life life, But we
[34:01] Speaker 2: can't control that, and know, should we put ourselves in
[34:03] Speaker 2: position to have to accept any of that?
[34:06] Speaker 1: You know?
[34:07] Speaker 2: And and and again it's about your circle. And I
[34:09] Speaker 2: know you've been you know, outside long enough to know
[34:13] Speaker 2: what you know, flawed individuals look like and then a
[34:17] Speaker 2: lot of them. And we all flawed ourselves at times.
[34:20] Speaker 2: But if you try to, you know, try to please
[34:26] Speaker 2: you being the people pleasing business instead of the crystal business.
[34:32] Speaker 1: That's so true.
[34:33] Speaker 2: Thank you for that. Thank you.
[34:34] Speaker 1: I appreciate nobody, oh nobody, nothing, Oh nobody talk about.
[34:42] Speaker 2: Family members, because let me tell you how life work.
[34:44] Speaker 2: It be your people, man, It be your own people.
[34:47] Speaker 2: It be your people people. And we don't choose certain
[34:50] Speaker 2: people as family or friends, but be your people. Yeah,
[34:54] Speaker 2: so you guys got to don't don't put them in
[34:56] Speaker 2: the box. The one thing I regret is, you know,
[35:02] Speaker 2: has nothing to do with that, but has everything to
[35:03] Speaker 2: do with as I matured in the business and I grew.
[35:07] Speaker 2: You know, we all chasing something, right, especially when you're
[35:10] Speaker 2: defining who you are. You don't know who you are
[35:13] Speaker 2: from the dough. It's the continuance of like figuring you
[35:15] Speaker 2: out in the process. You're making money, you have relationships.
[35:19] Speaker 2: The one thing man is like, when you have great relationships,
[35:22] Speaker 2: hold on to those relationships. A lot of things are circumstantial.
[35:27] Speaker 2: You know, a lot of things are circumstances. When you're
[35:29] Speaker 2: cool with the people you're around a lot in this moment,
[35:32] Speaker 2: but don't leave you know those friendships Now, real friendships
[35:35] Speaker 2: are going to be intact. I have all of my
[35:37] Speaker 2: friendships from day one and time. But a lot of
[35:40] Speaker 2: things gets confusing as you grow with these people in
[35:43] Speaker 2: your immedia circle aren't always your friends just because y'all
[35:46] Speaker 2: don't set and y'all doing these things and you're around
[35:48] Speaker 2: these people. You have to keep your core your core.
[35:50] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so true. And I recently have gone through
[35:53] Speaker 1: a pursing season where I realized that people had been
[35:56] Speaker 1: in my life for years weren't happy for me, and
[35:58] Speaker 1: it's like we started the same place and it's like
[36:00] Speaker 1: I'm ascending us in ascending and that person still where
[36:03] Speaker 1: we started, or they may have grown a little bit,
[36:05] Speaker 1: but not to the magnitude that I have. And it
[36:07] Speaker 1: becomes this jealousy and envy welcome.
[36:10] Speaker 2: Everybody can't go.
[36:12] Speaker 1: That's what my therapist said, everybody, literally everybody can't go.
[36:15] Speaker 2: I hope she said fuck them too. She didn't think nothing.
[36:19] Speaker 2: If you had a friendship, that's what I'm trying to tell.
[36:22] Speaker 2: You had a friendship, You're gonna be friends. If it
[36:25] Speaker 2: was never a friendship, it's going too rare. It's head.
[36:30] Speaker 1: Speaking of friendships now the world. On that topic, how
[36:33] Speaker 1: do you maintain and nourish the friendships as you built
[36:36] Speaker 1: in this industry? Because I know navigating this industry can
[36:39] Speaker 1: be caddy. You meet a lot of fake people. I'm
[36:43] Speaker 1: sure you want this, Yes, I want it.
[36:49] Speaker 2: I don't have many friends in this industry. I have
[36:51] Speaker 2: a lot of acquaintances. I have a lot of transactional relationships,
[36:54] Speaker 2: which is totally fun. I can count on one hand
[36:58] Speaker 2: how many friends I have in this industry. Wow, And
[37:01] Speaker 2: it's okay. But I think people should know that this
[37:04] Speaker 2: is a transactional world, not just business, not even sending.
[37:09] Speaker 2: Your relationships are transactional. But see, we don't understand that.
[37:12] Speaker 2: We don't understand the value, and that I understand thee
[37:14] Speaker 2: the value. The only thing that's changing with me. Now.
[37:17] Speaker 2: I understand the relationship are transactional, but I'm not gonna
[37:21] Speaker 2: fuck with you if you can't be aligned with my
[37:25] Speaker 2: purpose and passion. And it's not even as for sanity,
[37:28] Speaker 2: it's for association. You know. I don't know if you're
[37:31] Speaker 2: young as know, but they're creating this gang bill that
[37:35] Speaker 2: if you're affiliated, you're a part of the ship, just
[37:40] Speaker 2: like that. Absolutely wow. And you know I had said
[37:46] Speaker 2: something on an Earner Leisure podcast where I was talking
[37:48] Speaker 2: about a percentage you know, of crime went down. I'm
[37:52] Speaker 2: talking about like thirty percent of murders went down when
[37:55] Speaker 2: certain gang members got locked up. Wow. But guess what,
[38:00] Speaker 2: at the end of the day, something changed when that happened.
[38:03] Speaker 2: You have to change like that in your relationships, though,
[38:06] Speaker 2: if you're associated with people that are not good for
[38:10] Speaker 2: you or not aligned with what you're doing. I tell
[38:13] Speaker 2: my male partners all the time, Yeah you go, but
[38:16] Speaker 2: you know what you do, right, you know how you
[38:18] Speaker 2: get them? Okay, cool, as long as you know right.
[38:21] Speaker 2: But you're subject to like losing time. We don't have
[38:24] Speaker 2: time to get back, no, we don't. So any choices
[38:27] Speaker 2: that you make in that realm, you're sacrificing time. Time
[38:30] Speaker 2: is not it's fleeting, it's not on our side. We're
[38:33] Speaker 2: not here forever. Wow, they could change it could derail
[38:37] Speaker 2: your whole life.
[38:38] Speaker 1: Literally.
[38:40] Speaker 2: I bet that the executives was a part of the
[38:42] Speaker 2: ricos and on the murder cases they wouldn't sign.
[38:45] Speaker 1: They sure wouldn't be signing those. They would change what
[38:48] Speaker 1: the rabbits even rapping about.
[38:49] Speaker 2: I bet the entire world would change that one little
[38:52] Speaker 2: piece change.
[38:54] Speaker 1: Wow, that's so powerful, and I agree with you.
[38:57] Speaker 2: I do.
[38:58] Speaker 1: Did you watch Tyron Shout?
[39:02] Speaker 2: Episode inspired me so much? Was Black Side tied? It
[39:05] Speaker 2: was and it just showed you when they was fighting
[39:09] Speaker 2: off and then hugged.
[39:11] Speaker 1: Let's get literally, when the music changed that.
[39:13] Speaker 2: The chicken, the gray juice, every this is. This is
[39:16] Speaker 2: a real thing.
[39:17] Speaker 1: It's a real thing, and.
[39:19] Speaker 2: We are brainwashed every day. I'm intelligent, I have a
[39:23] Speaker 2: value of life spent and shared. But I'm still peeling
[39:27] Speaker 2: back the layers on the onion. I'm still saying, don't
[39:29] Speaker 2: like that nigga shit, get it, don't like that nigga shit.
[39:35] Speaker 2: You're leaving nigga them today, leave it fifty And I'm
[39:41] Speaker 2: still trying to get out of some of my ways.
[39:43] Speaker 2: But ladies in gentlemen, imagine the ones that aren't strong. Wow,
[39:47] Speaker 2: we're talking about le's. Let's do the ninety ten analogy.
[39:50] Speaker 2: Nine percent of the world is gonna participate, They're gonna follow,
[39:53] Speaker 2: They're gonna do everything that this small percentage doesn't. Even
[39:56] Speaker 2: in that ten percent, it's only probably two percent that's
[39:58] Speaker 2: willing to kill everybody to get the money. You know
[40:01] Speaker 2: what I'm saying. Because it happened, I believe I'm one
[40:03] Speaker 2: in the temper cent that cares. But I still ain't
[40:05] Speaker 2: willing to do certain shit. That's why I'm gonna be
[40:07] Speaker 2: where I'm at exactly, I'm gonna be where I'm at.
[40:09] Speaker 2: I'm the fining successful myself. You can had the rest.
[40:12] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, I agree with that. Oh, unpacking, unpacking, killing
[40:19] Speaker 1: back the layers of the onion.
[40:20] Speaker 2: I love it.
[40:22] Speaker 1: How do you, even from a very young age, you've
[40:25] Speaker 1: been in this industry, how did you maintain integrity?
[40:28] Speaker 2: Shuit? I never walked the Brookly Cheesecake. I was never
[40:30] Speaker 2: gonna be put in a position where I was gonna go.
[40:32] Speaker 1: Through What would you be doing?
[40:34] Speaker 2: Come on? At that age has been a fist fight.
[40:37] Speaker 2: Fuck you talk too? You know what I'm talking about period,
[40:41] Speaker 2: But like now I think, like you know, we see
[40:45] Speaker 2: people dumbing out for the check. It ain't like rap music.
[40:49] Speaker 2: It ain't about the art. It's about money. Literally, give
[40:52] Speaker 2: me three hundred homes you can have my I saw
[40:55] Speaker 2: a whole interview where yo, god, he was talking about
[41:01] Speaker 2: three sixty deals are good, and he was talking about
[41:05] Speaker 2: streaming is good, and I'm like, like, first of all,
[41:10] Speaker 2: Napster happened to the business. Do you remember when Napster
[41:13] Speaker 2: in the business. That's what streaming eventually is. And then
[41:18] Speaker 2: they clone Tyrone and tality would be like they created
[41:21] Speaker 2: all that to get to this. And then you got
[41:23] Speaker 2: somebody who's one of the most successful in rap music
[41:28] Speaker 2: now saying that all this is good comes signing three sixties.
[41:30] Speaker 2: You know, three sixties deals take a percentage of everything
[41:34] Speaker 2: every ding, so I'm the label, so basically they fundling
[41:37] Speaker 2: the money back around to this. It's a complete circle.
[41:39] Speaker 2: It's a complete hamster wheel. But he literally one of
[41:44] Speaker 2: the biggest doing it, so people looking like, yeah, I'm
[41:45] Speaker 2: gonna do it three.
[41:47] Speaker 1: But as an artist, he probably wouldn't agree with.
[41:49] Speaker 2: That, not coming from anendent you were part of and Listen,
[41:56] Speaker 2: I ain't knocking nobody forgetting their hustle. Somebody gonna listen
[41:58] Speaker 2: to that, buying to it, you know. But as a
[42:01] Speaker 2: as a leader in the community, you have to be
[42:06] Speaker 2: responsible for the youngest. But I mean, you know is
[42:10] Speaker 2: what it is. I'm not gonna just be because I
[42:14] Speaker 2: feel a little spicy. You got some Uncle news. Tear
[42:18] Speaker 2: the industry down today.
[42:22] Speaker 1: Down it would change the world though.
[42:24] Speaker 2: No, Listen, we are in the precipice of black culture
[42:31] Speaker 2: right now, and if we don't burn down hip hop
[42:35] Speaker 2: music specifically and bring it back, we are at risk
[42:40] Speaker 2: of losing the soundtrack that has built three generations now
[42:45] Speaker 2: the soundtrack now. I don't think hip hop culture will
[42:48] Speaker 2: leave because there's industry now, fashion, lifestyle. But at the
[42:54] Speaker 2: same time we are in we are at risk of
[42:58] Speaker 2: losing a form of music. Do you remember rock music
[43:02] Speaker 2: with like the number one music in the world. Rock
[43:04] Speaker 2: music is an indie genre. Rock music and if you
[43:09] Speaker 2: look at pop music, it's emulated the best of hip
[43:12] Speaker 2: hop and made it theirs. You got Taylor Swift. Listen
[43:18] Speaker 2: to what I'm about to tell you. Everything Taylor do
[43:21] Speaker 2: could be pop leaning, but an energy and attitude it's
[43:25] Speaker 2: hip hop. It's hip hop culture, from the dances to
[43:29] Speaker 2: the audacity to be something. She not everything she represents.
[43:33] Speaker 1: But people don't.
[43:34] Speaker 2: Always like adhere to that because we get money now. Finally, yes,
[43:38] Speaker 2: well guess what if my generation took it to a trillion.
[43:42] Speaker 2: Your generation supposed to goddamn in systemic disparities in the
[43:48] Speaker 2: financial system that we got it to this point. Your
[43:52] Speaker 2: generation is supposed to make it equitable for black and brown.
[43:58] Speaker 2: There's no I mean, but now it's like slavery all
[44:01] Speaker 2: over again. Literally, no, literally, we're slaves. That these kids
[44:05] Speaker 2: are slaves. It ain't even spokes to weed no more.
[44:09] Speaker 2: They want to do the ship. They want to shut
[44:11] Speaker 2: the organs down.
[44:12] Speaker 1: Yes, it kills them.
[44:14] Speaker 2: You can't't gonna get no medicine that's gonna kill you
[44:16] Speaker 2: because you drink it every day. You're immune. Ye, But
[44:22] Speaker 2: these are things like that. This is where I am,
[44:24] Speaker 2: and I understand why people get button neckd and move
[44:26] Speaker 2: to the woods because life you get to take it
[44:29] Speaker 2: over your mindset and you'd be like, what, what what
[44:33] Speaker 2: is going on? And then you're looking at the political sphere,
[44:38] Speaker 2: you dumb excuse I'm sorry, because it's stupid because you
[44:43] Speaker 2: thinking not voting because it ain't gonna matter. Who is
[44:47] Speaker 2: getting drunk right now? Sy that's local state government. Yes,
[44:53] Speaker 2: you think it ain't gonna matter if you show up
[44:54] Speaker 2: to the polls. And the one I got him, Listen,
[44:57] Speaker 2: I don't know about the mother cases. Fanny got got him.
[45:01] Speaker 2: It's on tape. They not gonna go listen to me.
[45:04] Speaker 2: White people. And I love my white friends, and I'm
[45:06] Speaker 2: not talking to all white people, but white people are
[45:08] Speaker 2: in fear of losing their race. That's why you see
[45:12] Speaker 2: them bucking like they bucking. But guess what happened in Georgia,
[45:15] Speaker 2: the same thing that happened when we turn this blue.
[45:18] Speaker 2: When I was on air and y'all thought I was
[45:20] Speaker 2: crazy talking about why we should vote. Fanny got him. Yeah,
[45:25] Speaker 2: Fanny got him. He's not getting up out of that.
[45:29] Speaker 2: And all you cochin spiraits in a rico huh Ricoka
[45:35] Speaker 2: huh yeah, yeah, you get locked up to Rudy, you
[45:42] Speaker 2: old bastard. And I think he was essential in the
[45:46] Speaker 2: Rico bill, in creating the RICO. He was a part
[45:48] Speaker 2: of the day. But like y'all don't understand why vote.
[45:52] Speaker 1: Is important so important, They don't They do not love you.
[45:58] Speaker 2: So I love this.
[46:00] Speaker 1: Kenny is on fire.
[46:01] Speaker 2: I love it. I love it.
[46:03] Speaker 1: You have a very solid friendship with the Nice Yes,
[46:07] Speaker 1: how did that turn that friendship turn to business because
[46:09] Speaker 1: now you guys are like, it's almost like your own group.
[46:12] Speaker 2: Yeah, Nice and Burns is a real thing. Anytime we
[46:15] Speaker 2: link up, it's magic. I'm very proud of what he's
[46:20] Speaker 2: been able to do. I mean, I never would have
[46:23] Speaker 2: done Kennedy Center, Apollo, cannav Hall, I mean venues where
[46:29] Speaker 2: I mean not Apollo, but those other videos where black
[46:31] Speaker 2: people couldn't perform. You know, we actually did the Apollo
[46:36] Speaker 2: and one of the OG's. I think it's like seventy
[46:38] Speaker 2: somethings like this is one of the best performances that
[46:41] Speaker 2: the Apollo's ever seen. I'm like, shut up, I don't
[46:44] Speaker 2: even respect your old g bs. Shit, fuck you had Motown,
[46:47] Speaker 2: you had hip hop and the Earth. You mean if
[46:49] Speaker 2: this was one of the best listens. So I don't
[46:52] Speaker 2: you know think I would have got those opportunities without
[46:54] Speaker 2: my brother. So I'm proud. I'm thankful. I love what
[46:57] Speaker 2: he's created with his movement, and he deserves it, you know,
[47:02] Speaker 2: thinking something that's the fruition is what happened with d
[47:04] Speaker 2: Nights before the pandemic hit. He was already doing White
[47:08] Speaker 2: House and you know, the big black simpole against like
[47:10] Speaker 2: we were both doing together. But this thing he used
[47:14] Speaker 2: to say to me all the time, I want to
[47:15] Speaker 2: be the biggest black DJ plain black music. You know,
[47:19] Speaker 2: EDM was going crazy and everybody was two hundred thousand
[47:22] Speaker 2: dollars to show up, like yes, throwing all the UF
[47:24] Speaker 2: were getting paid. Do you just always say why I
[47:26] Speaker 2: want to be that? Yeah, I'm like we can, Yes,
[47:30] Speaker 2: we will get it by myself and I love it
[47:32] Speaker 2: and I'm happy for him and without him, you know,
[47:35] Speaker 2: we wouldn't have got through. It's so easy, especially when
[47:38] Speaker 2: you think about he said something, Crystal, I want to
[47:42] Speaker 2: be the biggest black DJ playing black music. Huh, where
[47:47] Speaker 2: do you go from there? Like? And you did it?
[47:49] Speaker 2: Did it like you were on an island with us
[47:53] Speaker 2: in the middle of nowhere, y'all doing it. But I
[47:54] Speaker 2: got the footage insert here.
[47:57] Speaker 1: Literally that was a fun weekend, man.
[48:00] Speaker 2: It was so beautiful. It was black and it was
[48:02] Speaker 2: excellent and we were fish out of water and literally
[48:06] Speaker 2: literally fish you know what I'm talking about. But like
[48:07] Speaker 2: in a different place and time in that moment was
[48:11] Speaker 2: for us. And that's the beauty that Ida has been
[48:13] Speaker 2: able to create for himself and we've been able to
[48:15] Speaker 2: create together. I love it. I love it.
[48:19] Speaker 1: You are an entrepreneur. You built your own empire. You're
[48:24] Speaker 1: not easily placing the box. You have the Kindy Burn show,
[48:27] Speaker 1: you do your mcne. Then you're an investor in Uncle
[48:30] Speaker 1: near'ss Cream Liquors.
[48:31] Speaker 2: Series A investor. Oh y'all, who keep asking me what
[48:35] Speaker 2: I do? Well? What you do with Uncle? I still
[48:38] Speaker 2: funded the initial funds.
[48:40] Speaker 1: I know that's tell them, hey, that's different.
[48:44] Speaker 2: And I started seventy five cent of shares now worth
[48:46] Speaker 2: twenty nine dollars.
[48:48] Speaker 1: Talk about it.
[48:49] Speaker 2: What you're doing, what you're doing with huh? Asked me?
[48:51] Speaker 2: Askally another motherfucker question. That's my first spirit investment. I
[48:58] Speaker 2: have four more. Okay, Uh, what's up do you have
[49:03] Speaker 2: as part of Spearhead Spirits which is a company just
[49:07] Speaker 2: gonna own ten percent? And his wife and we have
[49:12] Speaker 2: Elis Cream Locour, which is a Haitian kremos and spired
[49:15] Speaker 2: cream liqor we own t percent of that as well.
[49:18] Speaker 2: Love that.
[49:19] Speaker 1: I know that's right. I need to come. I need
[49:21] Speaker 1: to come to Loveland and get.
[49:25] Speaker 2: Yes, heating the grass and love. It's a thing.
[49:28] Speaker 1: I can't wait. I could not wait. I know this
[49:31] Speaker 1: business can be gruesome and having a hold of your
[49:34] Speaker 1: mental and emotional wellness is key. What does someone like
[49:38] Speaker 1: Kenny Burns do?
[49:40] Speaker 2: Do you do have a therapist?
[49:41] Speaker 1: Do you?
[49:42] Speaker 2: No? You know, y'all won't just judgement if you like to,
[49:45] Speaker 2: I don't know. Judgement, No judge me. I want you to.
[49:48] Speaker 2: I want you to be in the comments. I don't
[49:51] Speaker 2: really I think therapy is good. I think it's always
[49:55] Speaker 2: good to have someone to talk to to think about people.
[50:00] Speaker 2: To get paid for it, though, is that they won't
[50:02] Speaker 2: keep telling you shit to come back. It's just my observation.
[50:05] Speaker 2: It's just my observation. I have a wife, and my
[50:10] Speaker 2: wife is my therapist because she's also my biggest love hater.
[50:13] Speaker 2: So I don't never get the yes Kenny shit. You
[50:16] Speaker 2: know what I'm talking about? So I get the truth
[50:19] Speaker 2: and I need to hurt for truth sometime. I need
[50:21] Speaker 2: the shit that's gonna just giggle a spine because people
[50:25] Speaker 2: like to tell your things and try to ease it
[50:27] Speaker 2: on in you. You know what I'm saying pause. But
[50:31] Speaker 2: the thing about it is you need the truth. See,
[50:34] Speaker 2: you need the truth and not a matter of fact
[50:37] Speaker 2: truth and response to something you might ask in the
[50:39] Speaker 2: form of a question and answer. But you tripping. You
[50:43] Speaker 2: know you shouldn't have did that. Wow. So you know.
[50:45] Speaker 2: I believe in therapy with the people that I love
[50:49] Speaker 2: and I know love me the best and have my
[50:50] Speaker 2: best interest. I don't believe in like sitting down with
[50:55] Speaker 2: someone I don't know and need to get to know
[50:57] Speaker 2: and tell them about my problems immediately. Nothing that's bad.
[51:01] Speaker 2: And whoever does it if you find that you might
[51:03] Speaker 2: not have those relationships, it works. But yeah, and I
[51:07] Speaker 2: also don't take things so literally.
[51:10] Speaker 1: You know.
[51:11] Speaker 2: Again, I said that, I said earlier in our conversation
[51:14] Speaker 2: that this is a transactional world as far as relationship
[51:18] Speaker 2: is concerned, and I'm okay with that. I used to
[51:21] Speaker 2: get a little bit annoyed when people I felt I
[51:25] Speaker 2: loved important to didn't love important to me back human quality.
[51:31] Speaker 2: But I don't really take anything too personal. I'm damn
[51:34] Speaker 2: sure not about the dwelling it, that's right. Yeah, I
[51:37] Speaker 2: gotta get to it. I don't have a lot of time.
[51:40] Speaker 1: You don't know none of us. No, we don't. I
[51:44] Speaker 1: see that you work out a lot.
[51:46] Speaker 2: You know where to take this? Another fact that face
[51:53] Speaker 2: to put it against some fifty old bodies and it
[51:56] Speaker 2: don't have me show you my nipple. They got a
[51:58] Speaker 2: little thing under it. Yes, let's call her. You know
[52:02] Speaker 2: I'm talking about not just you know what, before my
[52:06] Speaker 2: fortieth birthday, I decided that health as well. You know,
[52:11] Speaker 2: I lived life for a living and the things that
[52:13] Speaker 2: come with it, so you got to have balance.
[52:15] Speaker 1: No, you definitely have to have balance, you do. We
[52:18] Speaker 1: touched on your family, but your wife, who I just adore.
[52:21] Speaker 1: Fun fact I hadn't she is. I had never met
[52:26] Speaker 1: Jessica until the season one premiere of Sisters. Really yeah,
[52:31] Speaker 1: you all came together, but downtown. Yes, I would always
[52:34] Speaker 1: see her, like on your Instagram and just the way
[52:37] Speaker 1: she carried herself without even knowing her. When I got
[52:41] Speaker 1: when I finally got to meet her, I just pulled
[52:42] Speaker 1: her aside and I just want to tell you, like,
[52:44] Speaker 1: when I look at you, I'm like, that's how I
[52:46] Speaker 1: want to carry myself. Oh my gosh. She is just
[52:48] Speaker 1: And then once I got to know, I'm like, oh
[52:50] Speaker 1: my god, she's amazing. Yeah, but like just the way
[52:53] Speaker 1: that she her presence is without saying a word.
[52:55] Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's it's a superpower of hers. I
[52:58] Speaker 2: always say that Jessica could care less about all this
[53:03] Speaker 2: energy everybody loves. She could care less, and it doesn't
[53:06] Speaker 2: impress her. The people I know, the you know, I
[53:09] Speaker 2: remember leaving Sean Colme's Winding Spirits I started, I launched
[53:14] Speaker 2: a vault twenty thirteen, moved them to la I remember that, yeah,
[53:17] Speaker 2: and so you know storytime, and so we were literally
[53:23] Speaker 2: I used to go to work telling her how I
[53:24] Speaker 2: might fight him the damn well close this door, one
[53:27] Speaker 2: person walking out, And it got to the point was
[53:29] Speaker 2: like I'm leaving, right and so I never forget. I
[53:32] Speaker 2: literally went and met with the O d SMS love
[53:37] Speaker 2: her to death, and I told Andre, I was like,
[53:39] Speaker 2: I'm leaving. I can't because it's just ego at this point,
[53:42] Speaker 2: it's not even work, you know what I mean, Like
[53:44] Speaker 2: I can't even get off the superhero shit that I
[53:46] Speaker 2: got to get off. And so I'm glad I did
[53:50] Speaker 2: because two months later I got the Uncle Neary's deal,
[53:52] Speaker 2: so look at God. But I had literally went home.
[53:58] Speaker 2: I told her, I was like today you know, I quit.
[54:01] Speaker 2: I've been telling you I'm quitting. And she's like, all
[54:03] Speaker 2: right with they paying you? And I was like, you
[54:06] Speaker 2: know what, I didn't even talk about that because I'm
[54:09] Speaker 2: the type of person I walk away from eight gazillion
[54:12] Speaker 2: dollars because I don't feel right. She said, you need
[54:14] Speaker 2: to call them and figure out this bag, because you know,
[54:17] Speaker 2: moved your family out here. Yeah, now, mind you. I
[54:21] Speaker 2: probably would have got to that a day or two later,
[54:22] Speaker 2: but it was fresh, and she was like, don't let
[54:24] Speaker 2: that shit get to date.
[54:26] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[54:27] Speaker 2: But that's what I love most about it, because it's
[54:28] Speaker 2: all the way it always has been about what's best
[54:31] Speaker 2: for us as a family. And she's never away with
[54:33] Speaker 2: relationships or you know, been impressed with the ship. You know,
[54:37] Speaker 2: I can't. I couldn't have had that, you know what
[54:39] Speaker 2: I mean. And then she has her own like she's
[54:42] Speaker 2: getting the Masters from Howard and she has her own
[54:44] Speaker 2: things she does for her that not only keeps me like, damn,
[54:48] Speaker 2: you're getting Doper? Like how you get Doper? I told
[54:51] Speaker 2: her to that. I said, I don't even know what
[54:52] Speaker 2: love is. I think I need a stronger word because
[54:56] Speaker 2: a level of appreciation and when you have kids go
[54:59] Speaker 2: through what we went through this last year with our
[55:00] Speaker 2: youngest son, and just who we are the people we
[55:03] Speaker 2: we in first class the other day. I didn't mean
[55:05] Speaker 2: to say first class like it was a thing. But
[55:07] Speaker 2: we on a plane and this guy and I want
[55:11] Speaker 2: to know who you are, sir. He in a masked
[55:13] Speaker 2: glasses hat, but he black. He got you know, he goes,
[55:18] Speaker 2: you know, he knows something about something. So we get
[55:22] Speaker 2: separated because I didn't pay attention to the ticket. So
[55:25] Speaker 2: she's sitting in three A. I'm sitting in three D.
[55:28] Speaker 2: And we get off the plane and the goud says
[55:32] Speaker 2: to me, Yo, keep going, man, I love you know
[55:35] Speaker 2: what you're doing, and mind you, I get this and
[55:38] Speaker 2: I love it and thank you. Please don't right because
[55:41] Speaker 2: knowing that I affect you and this is not part
[55:43] Speaker 2: of the shit. Good time, Kenny. Shit, this is what
[55:45] Speaker 2: you're doing on your podcast. How you're showing him in
[55:47] Speaker 2: culture with your family.
[55:48] Speaker 1: Shit.
[55:49] Speaker 2: He lives like that. And so we're walking the things.
[55:51] Speaker 2: Just was like, you know, he was sitting next to
[55:52] Speaker 2: me when I sat down, he was like, thank you
[55:54] Speaker 2: for what you and your husband doing. We get this
[55:56] Speaker 2: stuff though, and it's like for us we're being us right,
[56:00] Speaker 2: and yes we're trying. The black love thing was intentional.
[56:03] Speaker 2: Jessica doesn't do anything she's been offered Housewives since season two,
[56:08] Speaker 2: she's been offered they want to do love and hip
[56:10] Speaker 2: hop and land around me and my crew, Like, we
[56:12] Speaker 2: just turned down things because it wasn't about that. Yes,
[56:15] Speaker 2: and now that we're older, people are like, yo, this
[56:18] Speaker 2: is the thing. Thank you because seeing I will be
[56:21] Speaker 2: twenty four in October, will be twenty four years married.
[56:24] Speaker 2: Wow in October, I'm fifty. That's half my life. Yes,
[56:28] Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. So you look at that
[56:29] Speaker 2: and you're like, the things that were innately us, the
[56:33] Speaker 2: things that she poured into me and that I poured
[56:35] Speaker 2: into her are where people love most about it. It's
[56:38] Speaker 2: not any of the accomplishments. Obviously we had to get
[56:41] Speaker 2: there through what I did in the industry. But the
[56:44] Speaker 2: light has, you know, turned on the things that matter most,
[56:48] Speaker 2: which is the tide of my new book What matters
[56:50] Speaker 2: most book together, Like Tyler, I'm here, Tyler. If you
[56:58] Speaker 2: see this and you're inspired, I'm here, brother, You know
[57:00] Speaker 2: what I mean. That's something that we could do definitely,
[57:03] Speaker 2: But I think that's what life's about, what matters most.
[57:06] Speaker 2: You can't go through life and think that it's material
[57:10] Speaker 2: things or being in a certain relationship pool that's going
[57:14] Speaker 2: to define you and your success. You have to define
[57:16] Speaker 2: it for yourself and ultimately you have to grow into
[57:19] Speaker 2: it too. We get lost and it's gonna be this
[57:21] Speaker 2: way immediately. No, you know how long it took me
[57:23] Speaker 2: to get here. I'm still. I just told you, I'm
[57:24] Speaker 2: peeling them layers back. Yes, still. I want to not
[57:27] Speaker 2: be a nigga. I want to not say the word nigga,
[57:29] Speaker 2: but I can't stop saying nigga because sometimes niggas.
[57:36] Speaker 1: I know what you're talking about. Sh Listen.
[57:39] Speaker 2: We all works to progress, y'all. We are. Ain't nobody
[57:43] Speaker 2: better than the other. We might know more than use.
[57:44] Speaker 2: So sometimes you need to listen. But you see, sometimes
[57:51] Speaker 2: you need to need to listen. That's because I'm.
[57:54] Speaker 1: Listening and you are, and I'll see how you're growing.
[57:58] Speaker 1: You're listening an your life. You're peeling back layers. It's beautiful.
[58:02] Speaker 2: It is.
[58:03] Speaker 1: Jessica Has she's the author of a book called Golden Guidance.
[58:06] Speaker 1: I actually have a copy of it, and it's a
[58:09] Speaker 1: book of reflections of self love, faith, heally and growth.
[58:12] Speaker 1: Being that you both are entrepreneurs, how do you guys
[58:14] Speaker 1: balance and support each other's vision and growth?
[58:18] Speaker 2: Great question, Well, first of all, little story times. She
[58:21] Speaker 2: gave me acts of faith when we first started dating,
[58:23] Speaker 2: really the Book of Faith by and I don't read.
[58:29] Speaker 2: Of course I read, but I'm not a you know.
[58:32] Speaker 2: I would read this book and I'm like, oh shit,
[58:34] Speaker 2: And so that kind of started defining who we were
[58:36] Speaker 2: going to be. So it was pouring into right, like
[58:40] Speaker 2: and support again, I quick comes winding spirit. I was
[58:44] Speaker 2: making a lot of money and she was like, all right,
[58:46] Speaker 2: let's go. The other day I was like, how much money?
[58:48] Speaker 2: I told you? And she's like, what you want to
[58:50] Speaker 2: sell all this property and just get moved to a
[58:51] Speaker 2: what you want to do? I'm like, because we almost
[58:53] Speaker 2: in pian nests almost yeah, but it's like, do you
[58:57] Speaker 2: you know, it's like what you want to do because
[58:59] Speaker 2: you prove in a relationship who you are in a relationship. Yeah,
[59:04] Speaker 2: don't let it go over your here and people a
[59:06] Speaker 2: lot of times don't know the value of proving yourself
[59:09] Speaker 2: to your partner. But once you get on that plateau,
[59:13] Speaker 2: that plane, like when you get on that little like
[59:16] Speaker 2: plain field, and it's even it's no more proving, it's
[59:20] Speaker 2: everything you wanted to be. And yes, in relationship, you
[59:23] Speaker 2: have to prove yourself to your partner. How do you
[59:24] Speaker 2: think you're gonna gain trust? How do you think you're
[59:26] Speaker 2: gonna get to a certain point in life together? Because
[59:29] Speaker 2: guess what all the reasons people don't stay together is
[59:31] Speaker 2: because they grow apart. You got to grow together. And
[59:35] Speaker 2: so we've always been in tandem like that. And even
[59:38] Speaker 2: when she didn't understand, she trust. She trusted I would
[59:43] Speaker 2: get it together, and I took the responsibility because that's
[59:46] Speaker 2: who I am. But you have to have yin and yang.
[59:49] Speaker 2: Everybody's not gonna be able to be you know, the
[59:52] Speaker 2: one who makes the money you can't like. Seldom do
[59:54] Speaker 2: I see relationships a big shot to the ones that do.
[59:57] Speaker 2: I admire you, but sell do you see where like
[1:00:00] Speaker 2: the money is equal, but the value is not money
[1:00:03] Speaker 2: in a relationship, the value is not money, It is
[1:00:06] Speaker 2: what are you doing for your family? How are you
[1:00:09] Speaker 2: progressing as a unit? And that's where people go. My career,
[1:00:13] Speaker 2: I'm a sacrifice all this shit what I got to
[1:00:15] Speaker 2: do because I ain't no, it's not a conducive traits
[1:00:18] Speaker 2: for a relationship. You gotta be in tandem. And I
[1:00:22] Speaker 2: think the fact that we've been in tandem, the fact
[1:00:24] Speaker 2: that she's supported everything I've ever wanted to do. I've
[1:00:27] Speaker 2: supported everything she wanted to do. But this one time, child,
[1:00:30] Speaker 2: she want to do hair. You just twelve hours a
[1:00:37] Speaker 2: day gone. But she learned from it, you know. And
[1:00:39] Speaker 2: that but that's how you grow. You don't just it's
[1:00:42] Speaker 2: not magic. It don't just be magical all the time.
[1:00:46] Speaker 2: You got to go through some things. But quitting, quitting
[1:00:51] Speaker 2: is what people think is the answer a lot of times. Wow,
[1:00:55] Speaker 2: you know, and if you friends, I won't say this.
[1:00:59] Speaker 2: If you friends, you might want to work that ship
[1:01:01] Speaker 2: out because if your friends, you really there's nothing you
[1:01:04] Speaker 2: really can't get over right.
[1:01:07] Speaker 1: Wow, that's real.
[1:01:09] Speaker 2: I needed that.
[1:01:11] Speaker 1: You know.
[1:01:11] Speaker 2: I'm here, baby. You know, God has a mysterious way
[1:01:15] Speaker 2: of showing up.
[1:01:17] Speaker 1: He really does know you really just spoke to.
[1:01:19] Speaker 2: It to be three people. It be goddamn humming bird,
[1:01:23] Speaker 2: show up at your window. Whatever it is. You got
[1:01:25] Speaker 2: to pay attention to the sign.
[1:01:26] Speaker 1: It could be kats on your couch just dropping.
[1:01:28] Speaker 2: Because I'm comfortable. All I need is a God damn
[1:01:31] Speaker 2: a Sai ball. This is too comfortable. What were watching next?
[1:01:38] Speaker 2: For me? Satima?
[1:01:40] Speaker 1: Right soon? I can't talk about that because you're on strike.
[1:01:43] Speaker 1: He said that I didn't it.
[1:01:45] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I strike. Oh yeah, like we.
[1:01:49] Speaker 1: Literally cannot talk about past, present, future projects really nothing.
[1:01:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, well I'm talking about it. Goddamn the tyler. What
[1:01:56] Speaker 2: I wont to happen is uh.
[1:02:01] Speaker 1: We talked about your investments. How did you even in
[1:02:04] Speaker 1: our community? I mean even for me, like I'm just
[1:02:06] Speaker 1: getting into it, learning about it, still trying to understand
[1:02:09] Speaker 1: the contracts, especially when you get into it early before
[1:02:12] Speaker 1: it goes public. Can you just tell us a little
[1:02:16] Speaker 1: bit about that just for our community even understand How
[1:02:18] Speaker 1: do you get into investment?
[1:02:20] Speaker 2: Sure? Yeah. How I got into investment in Spirits was
[1:02:23] Speaker 2: that I was in Spirits before I became an owner.
[1:02:26] Speaker 2: I was in the clubs heavy and you remember the
[1:02:30] Speaker 2: Great Goose Day. So I created influencer programs that all
[1:02:34] Speaker 2: Spirit companies you. I feel like I was the data
[1:02:36] Speaker 2: for that because I don't know if you remember my
[1:02:39] Speaker 2: thirty fifth birthday part of the Vasace mansion, you might
[1:02:42] Speaker 2: not have been outside outside yeah yeah, but I had
[1:02:44] Speaker 2: had more Tennessy paid for the entire thing, So all
[1:02:48] Speaker 2: of my best friends and I stayed in the Maasace
[1:02:50] Speaker 2: mansion except Gianni's room because yeah, the dead was thirty
[1:02:54] Speaker 2: five feet long, and you just oh wow, yeah, it's
[1:02:57] Speaker 2: kind of the energy look. So but that party kind
[1:03:03] Speaker 2: of put me on the map of like, how is it?
[1:03:05] Speaker 2: How does this non celebrity bring all these people? So
[1:03:10] Speaker 2: there was how to manage it? And then one pointing,
[1:03:12] Speaker 2: how do we spend two hundred thousand dollars on this
[1:03:14] Speaker 2: party for this non celebrity?
[1:03:16] Speaker 1: Wow.
[1:03:16] Speaker 2: So that's when they were kind of flirting with the
[1:03:18] Speaker 2: idea of people outside of celebrity having access and being
[1:03:23] Speaker 2: able to move the needle. So then fast forward, Grey
[1:03:27] Speaker 2: Goose wanted to go against the Sorak flavors and came
[1:03:30] Speaker 2: to the market and was like, look, we have Laurente Lapoix.
[1:03:34] Speaker 2: We want to get into the you know, the I'm
[1:03:37] Speaker 2: sorry but in the flavors game, but we want to compete. Yes,
[1:03:40] Speaker 2: They're like, we're gonna give you this opportunity, and what
[1:03:42] Speaker 2: you do with the opportunity, will you know? Tell our future?
[1:03:45] Speaker 2: Together went up four hundred and ninety eight percent. WHOA
[1:03:49] Speaker 2: in the market in six months. But I was it
[1:03:51] Speaker 2: was cheat. It was cheating. I had the world famous
[1:03:53] Speaker 2: compound all the club. I'm at the table y'all in
[1:03:56] Speaker 2: the movie Popping. Then of course that world famous thing
[1:04:00] Speaker 2: happened with Puffer. He came and through ice at us
[1:04:03] Speaker 2: in my booth. I was like, fuck, y'all likes getting niggas, y'all,
[1:04:06] Speaker 2: ain't ship y'all, We're not supporting so roccacause we got
[1:04:09] Speaker 2: our own sh like so, but anybody else you can
[1:04:11] Speaker 2: go to YouTube child. Yeah, I just came home from
[1:04:15] Speaker 2: having the root in his trunk. It was a whole thing.
[1:04:19] Speaker 2: So yeah. But it was those things that kind of like,
[1:04:22] Speaker 2: you know, kept me kind of wanting to be an owner.
[1:04:25] Speaker 2: And then when I went to launch for Volt Television,
[1:04:28] Speaker 2: I told you I transferred into the Cones Wine and
[1:04:30] Speaker 2: Spirit side, so you know, Apple Sorok was my launch,
[1:04:34] Speaker 2: main goals, my launch, Wow DeLeon tequila was my launch.
[1:04:39] Speaker 2: And then after things didn't work out, you know, I
[1:04:42] Speaker 2: just kept my you know, arms open to receive. And
[1:04:45] Speaker 2: because I was in the spirit world, you know, my
[1:04:49] Speaker 2: reputation preceded me. And someone came to me and was
[1:04:52] Speaker 2: like on a golf course, which I do not golf
[1:04:56] Speaker 2: until now the ping but yeah, but yeah, they were like,
[1:05:03] Speaker 2: I'm investing. It was a VC group that was investing
[1:05:05] Speaker 2: in Uncle Nears was like, you have to meet this
[1:05:06] Speaker 2: woman phone and I was like, yeah, I had no
[1:05:09] Speaker 2: idea how dynamic she was. I was like, sure, So
[1:05:12] Speaker 2: I go and meet her in Nashville, go to Shelbyville.
[1:05:17] Speaker 2: So I go to Lynchburg. First walked the hollow land.
[1:05:20] Speaker 2: The original bottle actually off Uncle Near's has a house
[1:05:23] Speaker 2: on the front. It's called the dan Call Farm. Farn
[1:05:28] Speaker 2: bought that farm underneath Jack Daniels. No, she was telling
[1:05:30] Speaker 2: me this story and all this gangster shit she was doing. Wow,
[1:05:33] Speaker 2: that's why to this day she always lasts like you gangster.
[1:05:36] Speaker 2: So she bought that. She you know, took me through
[1:05:41] Speaker 2: the storytelling we sip water from the original creek that
[1:05:44] Speaker 2: Jack Daniels was making whiskey. So it was going through
[1:05:47] Speaker 2: this whole thing, and by the time we got to
[1:05:50] Speaker 2: where it was an equestrian ranch that is now Nears
[1:05:55] Speaker 2: Green Distillery, she was talking about, you know, we just
[1:05:58] Speaker 2: bought this too, were gonna build this still. So I'm like, yeah, man,
[1:06:01] Speaker 2: what's up. I want ten percent of the company. It's like,
[1:06:03] Speaker 2: I can't give you ten percent of the company, but
[1:06:05] Speaker 2: I give you some shares that you will just fall
[1:06:08] Speaker 2: in love with. And I was like, all right, cool.
[1:06:10] Speaker 2: She called me a week later, she was like, here
[1:06:11] Speaker 2: are the shares. I had never been offered anything in
[1:06:13] Speaker 2: my life. Yeah, when someone says, you know, a couple
[1:06:17] Speaker 2: hundred thousand, she's like, oh, yeah, of course ownership. Yeah, yes,
[1:06:21] Speaker 2: remember when I said earlier about the seventy five cent
[1:06:23] Speaker 2: versus twenty nine. So then I was like, you know, cool,
[1:06:28] Speaker 2: But my job was kind of like you know, you
[1:06:31] Speaker 2: remember we did the breakfast club together for all. We
[1:06:33] Speaker 2: did that whole run, and you know, our Instagram started
[1:06:36] Speaker 2: going crazy. But the beauty of that entire investment was
[1:06:39] Speaker 2: that not only was it history, but I met like
[1:06:42] Speaker 2: someone I wanted to be like, like I wanted to
[1:06:44] Speaker 2: be like Andre. Yeah, and she's younger, She's like four
[1:06:51] Speaker 2: years younger than me, I think. But like I just said, like,
[1:06:53] Speaker 2: I called my spirit in them because it's like you
[1:06:55] Speaker 2: a cold, motherfucking drop out. You fucking like took your life,
[1:07:00] Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, put it in a choke
[1:07:02] Speaker 2: hold and did what the fuck you wanted with it.
[1:07:05] Speaker 2: I mean you look at like I'm talking about day one,
[1:07:07] Speaker 2: like they had the brand concept and idea, but they
[1:07:09] Speaker 2: hadn't launched anything. Yeah, I was there day one.
[1:07:11] Speaker 1: That's amazing.
[1:07:12] Speaker 2: Yeah, So you know, look at her growth and who
[1:07:15] Speaker 2: she is, the culture and what it was. She just
[1:07:17] Speaker 2: opened my eyes to a different way of doing business.
[1:07:20] Speaker 2: From that, Elis Cream came through our incubator program at
[1:07:24] Speaker 2: Uncle Niar's. That's not through our program, but farm Line
[1:07:28] Speaker 2: invested independent of the incubator program. Also, the Spearhead Spirits
[1:07:33] Speaker 2: opportunity came through the incubator program, which they passed on
[1:07:37] Speaker 2: because they already brought into a gin, but that came through.
[1:07:40] Speaker 2: So she's been the gift that keeps on giving in
[1:07:42] Speaker 2: a relationship, you know kind of way. We're more brothers
[1:07:45] Speaker 2: and sister. We don't do a lot of business. I mean,
[1:07:48] Speaker 2: you know she is gonna announce very soon. Damn, I
[1:07:51] Speaker 2: was just about to see it. I'm glad I didn't
[1:07:53] Speaker 2: move my mother, But she just made a play. That's
[1:07:56] Speaker 2: I mean, she'll be the seventh largest spirit company in
[1:08:02] Speaker 2: the world eventually. Play. Yeah, and that's like ironic. Six
[1:08:06] Speaker 2: years yeah, seven years, seven years. So yeah, it's just
[1:08:12] Speaker 2: been a blessing. And I'll continue to align myself, back
[1:08:16] Speaker 2: to your original question, with things that are part of
[1:08:19] Speaker 2: what I do. I suggest any entrepreneur, you know, align
[1:08:23] Speaker 2: yourself with things you love. Align yourself with things that
[1:08:26] Speaker 2: you're actively doing. Eventually, when I don't drink, I think
[1:08:31] Speaker 2: I'll probably stop drinking one day I sell my portfolio.
[1:08:34] Speaker 2: But I'll always align myself with things that I'm passionate
[1:08:39] Speaker 2: about that really, because those are the things that have
[1:08:40] Speaker 2: work for me. I'm not one to just I mean,
[1:08:43] Speaker 2: Jessica dabbles with stocks and our portfolio on that side,
[1:08:47] Speaker 2: but she's very you know, strategic about what she's doing.
[1:08:51] Speaker 2: So I don't really suggest doing anything you don't love.
[1:08:55] Speaker 2: I would be very passionate about it, and I would,
[1:08:59] Speaker 2: you know, because being passionate means you want to know
[1:09:00] Speaker 2: about it and stay up on it. That's the big
[1:09:03] Speaker 2: deal when it comes to investing. I love that.
[1:09:06] Speaker 1: Thank you, Thank you so much, Kitty. I appreciate you. No,
[1:09:12] Speaker 1: it's going to go crazy, guys, thank you so much.
[1:09:18] Speaker 1: We do what we call positive outcomes, and this is
[1:09:21] Speaker 1: where they write into us and ask us for advice,
[1:09:24] Speaker 1: and we just given the best we can absolutely and
[1:09:28] Speaker 1: says Hey, Crystal, last year I saw your BMW Uncorked
[1:09:32] Speaker 1: interview and it literally changed my life. I was having
[1:09:35] Speaker 1: a really tough time dealing with a career that I
[1:09:37] Speaker 1: knew wasn't for me, especially knowing that I was meant
[1:09:40] Speaker 1: to be doing something more. You talked about pivoting careers
[1:09:43] Speaker 1: and being in the season of pouring into yourself, which
[1:09:46] Speaker 1: is something that I need to work on. But I
[1:09:48] Speaker 1: believe God often uses people to speak to others, and
[1:09:51] Speaker 1: that day he definitely used you to speak to me,
[1:09:54] Speaker 1: because that was the moment I felt this flooded. This
[1:09:57] Speaker 1: was a flood of emotions and a voice that said
[1:09:59] Speaker 1: that it was okay to go after my dreams of
[1:10:01] Speaker 1: being a graphic design or video editor. And that feeling
[1:10:04] Speaker 1: hasn't gone away. But in pursuing my passion, I'm finding
[1:10:07] Speaker 1: my purpose of life has been turned upside down on
[1:10:10] Speaker 1: multiple occasions. I swear it seems like every time I
[1:10:13] Speaker 1: turn I start to gain momentum and there's a major
[1:10:16] Speaker 1: life event that happens, a divorce, multiple death in the family,
[1:10:19] Speaker 1: losing my job, you name it, then knocks the wind
[1:10:22] Speaker 1: out of me. Sometimes I feel like, I'm so close
[1:10:25] Speaker 1: to my breakthrough yet so far away been there. So
[1:10:28] Speaker 1: my question to you is how do you find strength, motivation,
[1:10:32] Speaker 1: and the courage to continue pursuing your passion, walking your
[1:10:35] Speaker 1: purpose during those moments when it feels like everything is
[1:10:38] Speaker 1: stacked against you?
[1:10:40] Speaker 2: Wow oof.
[1:10:43] Speaker 1: First of all, thank you for writing in and when
[1:10:47] Speaker 1: I always tell this story when I moved to Atlanta
[1:10:49] Speaker 1: to pursue my dreams. It was the hardest year of
[1:10:51] Speaker 1: my life and if I had have given up, I
[1:10:54] Speaker 1: wouldn't be where I am today. But there was moments
[1:10:57] Speaker 1: where I did and where I just like, am I
[1:11:00] Speaker 1: doing the right thing? That I make the right decision.
[1:11:02] Speaker 1: But I feel like when God plants succeed in you
[1:11:05] Speaker 1: and you know that's what you're supposed to do, you
[1:11:07] Speaker 1: have to keep pushing through it. I know it's hard
[1:11:10] Speaker 1: with dealing with I don't know what it's like to
[1:11:12] Speaker 1: deal with a divorce, but I know that's not something
[1:11:14] Speaker 1: that's easy to navigate, and then dealing with a loss
[1:11:17] Speaker 1: in family and losing your job, that's a lot. But
[1:11:21] Speaker 1: I think if this is something that you really want
[1:11:23] Speaker 1: to do, just keep working at it, honing in on
[1:11:26] Speaker 1: what it takes to be the best graphic designer and
[1:11:29] Speaker 1: video editor that you can be. But like I say,
[1:11:32] Speaker 1: anything worth getting is not going to be easy.
[1:11:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you think? I think you should also
[1:11:39] Speaker 2: try and define success for yourself. I think a lot
[1:11:43] Speaker 2: of times we put unnecessary pressures on ourselves, We put
[1:11:46] Speaker 2: unrealistic goals on ourselves. And a lot of things that
[1:11:50] Speaker 2: I find is people don't really appreciate the journey. And
[1:11:54] Speaker 2: you have to appreciate the journey you cannot possibly get to,
[1:11:58] Speaker 2: you know, fulfilled all of your dreams, not appreciating each
[1:12:02] Speaker 2: individual small win. So maybe try just like peeling back,
[1:12:07] Speaker 2: you know, or pulling back, assessing what your goals are
[1:12:10] Speaker 2: and what you want to do and find happiness and
[1:12:13] Speaker 2: the things that you can complete and accomplish. You know,
[1:12:15] Speaker 2: we sometimes just we have this lofty goal of like
[1:12:18] Speaker 2: we should be here or things are gonna be perfect
[1:12:20] Speaker 2: or not, and we're gonna go through things. So and
[1:12:23] Speaker 2: if you're present in those moments, you're gonna feel things,
[1:12:26] Speaker 2: You're gonna go through the disappointment, you're gonna go through
[1:12:28] Speaker 2: all the things. But at least you have realistic goals
[1:12:31] Speaker 2: that are obtainable, because the dreams come when you're not
[1:12:35] Speaker 2: trying to get them.
[1:12:35] Speaker 1: Mmm mmmm. That's so true.
[1:12:39] Speaker 2: That is so true.
[1:12:40] Speaker 1: They come to you when you're not trying to get them.
[1:12:41] Speaker 1: That's a lot of things in life. It comes when
[1:12:43] Speaker 1: you're not looking for it, like your man.
[1:12:49] Speaker 2: Like.
[1:12:49] Speaker 1: I mean, that is what happens, is when you're out
[1:12:52] Speaker 1: there looking looking looking nothing. You never it never comes
[1:12:55] Speaker 1: as soon as you just chilled me like all right, God,
[1:12:57] Speaker 1: I'm not gonna over this.
[1:12:59] Speaker 2: Yeah, I met you at the basketball game. We gotta
[1:13:01] Speaker 2: go to dinner. Player looking forward to it. Oh, I
[1:13:07] Speaker 2: love it.
[1:13:07] Speaker 1: I love it. So in closing, we do what's called
[1:13:13] Speaker 1: what I'm going through and what I'm growing through.
[1:13:17] Speaker 2: How she moves now y'all can do then? And I
[1:13:19] Speaker 2: love that.
[1:13:21] Speaker 1: Yeah, I really would love that. What I'm going through,
[1:13:24] Speaker 1: what I'm growing through for me, just even like the
[1:13:28] Speaker 1: things that we've talked about today, I think one of
[1:13:31] Speaker 1: the things that I'm going through is expanding my portfolio.
[1:13:35] Speaker 1: We talked about investments, learning more about that, and for me,
[1:13:40] Speaker 1: I know that in that space it's a risk, yes,
[1:13:42] Speaker 1: and I'm not.
[1:13:43] Speaker 2: You have some people that are big.
[1:13:44] Speaker 1: Risk takers and then some people are calculating Hello, So
[1:13:49] Speaker 1: I'm a hold on.
[1:13:49] Speaker 2: I like to hold other.
[1:13:50] Speaker 1: Mone, but just get into the space where I do
[1:13:53] Speaker 1: have that big face to take bigger, bigger risks, you know,
[1:13:56] Speaker 1: because it's a bigger return.
[1:13:57] Speaker 2: When you do. You can use your likeness to have
[1:14:01] Speaker 2: you know, sweat equity versus monetary input. So those are
[1:14:05] Speaker 2: things I think about to.
[1:14:09] Speaker 1: Put me on game.
[1:14:10] Speaker 2: I love it.
[1:14:11] Speaker 1: Is there anything that you're going through and growing through?
[1:14:13] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going through shedding some of the things I
[1:14:21] Speaker 2: was taking. That's probably been the hardest hardest thing in
[1:14:24] Speaker 2: my life, Shedding the things that I thought to be
[1:14:29] Speaker 2: the things you know, absolutely, and I'm growing through it.
[1:14:32] Speaker 2: I think that you know, you have to to to elevate,
[1:14:36] Speaker 2: you have to to align honestly with your purpose. I think,
[1:14:39] Speaker 2: you know, we get so caught up, you know, and
[1:14:42] Speaker 2: I'm blessed to right, So I am speaking from the
[1:14:44] Speaker 2: lens of I've done a lot of great things to
[1:14:47] Speaker 2: get to where I am. I don't feel any shame
[1:14:49] Speaker 2: at you know, any point of my journey, right, you know,
[1:14:53] Speaker 2: shaming and like, yeah, shot that motherfucker.
[1:14:57] Speaker 1: You know.
[1:14:58] Speaker 2: Don't have anything in my a, my heart that has
[1:15:00] Speaker 2: kept me from growing spiritually. So now it's just growing
[1:15:06] Speaker 2: through going through that. Like I said, I want to
[1:15:09] Speaker 2: get rid of all the nigga ship. I want the
[1:15:11] Speaker 2: nigga ship to leave my body, Please leave me. I
[1:15:17] Speaker 2: am tired. I don't want nothing to do with you.
[1:15:20] Speaker 2: I hate you, get it, and I'm growing through it.
[1:15:26] Speaker 1: That's right.
[1:15:27] Speaker 2: I love it.
[1:15:28] Speaker 1: I love that's good. Yeah, me too.
[1:15:32] Speaker 2: But then you know, of course I'm in my cool
[1:15:34] Speaker 2: whip inside yello.
[1:15:39] Speaker 1: I don't go all that, right, I love it. We
[1:15:49] Speaker 1: did something where we say keep it blank, sweetie. We're
[1:15:51] Speaker 1: filling the blank pertaining to the episode, and for this one,
[1:15:54] Speaker 1: I will say, keep it unapologetic, sweetie, because one thing
[1:15:58] Speaker 1: I've heard from you this whole time is that you
[1:16:00] Speaker 1: you've been unapologetically Kenny Burns.
[1:16:03] Speaker 2: Yes, Jesus, yes, shot. And if I had to tell
[1:16:08] Speaker 2: somebody stop lying to yourself, you go a lot further
[1:16:15] Speaker 2: in life, a lot quicker. Wow, that's deep. I love that. Yeah,
[1:16:20] Speaker 2: we lied to ourself. We do, we do. It's gonna
[1:16:23] Speaker 2: be No, it's not no, it's not. He put his
[1:16:27] Speaker 2: hands on You're gonna put his hands on you again?
[1:16:29] Speaker 2: Oh twice, three four times. Oh you're still that. No
[1:16:31] Speaker 2: it's not no, No, it's not it's not. I'm just
[1:16:34] Speaker 2: certain ship. You can't lie to you cannot.
[1:16:36] Speaker 1: You gotta be honest with yourself. That's true.
[1:16:38] Speaker 2: That one day you could wake up is like, I'm
[1:16:40] Speaker 2: not bloated and you're bloated. That's not a lot.
[1:16:48] Speaker 1: Like I look like I'm on a third try.
[1:16:50] Speaker 2: Master, I'm.
[1:16:52] Speaker 1: Shut it out bloating.
[1:16:55] Speaker 2: Trust me, Trust Kenny.
[1:16:58] Speaker 1: Thank you so much. This has been an amazing episode.
[1:17:02] Speaker 1: You got some comedic chops.
[1:17:04] Speaker 2: I'm trying you do you want to add value? And
