Send us Fan Mail Club Med is one of those travel brands people think they understand until they hear the full story. In the second episode of our Sun Destinations Series, Carolyne Doyon, President and CEO of Club Med North America and the Caribbean, shares how a bold idea launched in 1950 built around sport, nature, and human connection went on to pioneer the all-inclusive concept that has since shaped the modern resort industry. What began as a simple, communal approach to vacationing evolved into a seamless experience where everything is taken care of, removing friction and allowing travelers to fully disconnect and engage. Carolyne brings the Club Med spirit to life, from the iconic GO host culture to its distinct culinary identity and activity driven programming designed to create both freedom and connection. She also reflects on how Club Med helped shape some of today’s most iconic sun destinations like Cancun and Punta Cana, offering a behind the scenes look at how early development decisions continue to influence the premium travel experience today. The conversation then turns to what travelers are seeking in 2026, including the rise of family and multigenerational travel and the growing demand for spaces that balance togetherness with individuality. From kids clubs starting as early as four months to adult only Zen zones and signature experiences like the trapeze, Club Med continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. Looking ahead, Carolyne shares where the brand is going next, from its Exclusive Collection luxury offerings to sustainability commitments, wellness focused experiences, and new global destinations that continue to redefine what all-inclusive travel can be. [0:59] SPEAKER_02: She's French Canadian, as you'll learn in a moment.
[1:01] SPEAKER_02: She's based in Miami and has been for many years.
[1:04] SPEAKER_02: Carolyn Doyon, he's the president and CEO of Club Med for North America and the Caribbean.
[1:10] SPEAKER_02: And I'm so excited for you to hear the origin story of Club Med, the connection to Cancun, and how they developed the all-inclusive concept.
[1:17] SPEAKER_02: She has spent more than 25 years in the travel industry and 15 years at Club Med specifically, a brand that pioneered the all-inclusive concept.
[1:26] SPEAKER_02: And Carolyn really, as you'll hear, brings a wealth of expertise from airlines, tour operators, and global resort leadership.
[1:33] SPEAKER_02: She's played a key role in transforming their North American business, driving record growth, expanding into new markets, and leading major developments even through some of the industry's most challenging moments.
[1:44] SPEAKER_02: And in today's discussion, we'll dive into the evolution of Club Med, what's driving demand in Sun destinations today, and how the all-inclusive model is changing.
[1:53] SPEAKER_02: And what's next for luxury offerings, wellness, and as they continue their global expansion to places like South Africa.
[2:00] SPEAKER_02: I'm so excited to bring this conversation to you.
[2:03] SPEAKER_02: Caroline, welcome to Travel Trends.
[2:05] SPEAKER_02: It's so great to have you on the podcast.
[2:07] SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Dan, for having me.
[2:08] SPEAKER_00: Very excited to be here and have this wonderful discussion together.
[2:12] SPEAKER_02: Fantastic.
[2:13] SPEAKER_02: Because you know, it's a huge honor to have you as part of this Sun Destination series.
[2:18] SPEAKER_02: Obviously, having Club Med as part of this conversation was really important for us.
[2:22] SPEAKER_02: So I really appreciate you and the team making this possible and making the time.
[2:26] SPEAKER_02: And I have so many questions for you.
[2:28] SPEAKER_02: And I'm sure many of our listeners around the world are also looking forward to this conversation and learning more about Club Med.
[2:34] SPEAKER_02: But they obviously learned some from my introduction there.
[2:36] SPEAKER_02: But I would love, if you wouldn't mind, just sharing with all of our listeners the Club Med story, because your history and the evolution very much ties to leisure travel.
[2:46] SPEAKER_02: And so tell us a little bit about the history of Club Med and the business that it has become today.
[2:52] SPEAKER_00: Sure.
[2:52] SPEAKER_00: So Clomed has been uh around for uh actually 75, 76 years this month.
[3:00] SPEAKER_00: So last year in 2025, we celebrated our 75th anniversary.
[3:04] SPEAKER_00: So Clomed was founded in 1950 by um a Belgian man.
[3:10] SPEAKER_00: We always think it's by a French uh gentleman, but it's a Belgian man, uh, Gerhard Blitz, who has created Clumed uh with the goal to have people uh traveling together based on sports, having a good time, sharing a good meal.
[3:28] SPEAKER_00: And this was right after World War II.
[3:31] SPEAKER_00: So this is at a time when people really needed to disconnect, to um, you know, leave a little bit uh the civilization, like we say, and you know, go into nature and see all the goodness around them.
[3:45] SPEAKER_00: So this is how Clamat was born in 1950.
[3:49] SPEAKER_00: So fast for fast forward to 2026, uh today uh we're global, so we have a global footprint, we have uh over 60 resorts, all premium or luxury resort around the world.
[4:03] SPEAKER_00: Um we have over 100 nationalities in our team worldwide working for Clomet every day.
[4:12] SPEAKER_00: Uh we uh host uh over a million clients a year in our resorts.
[4:21] SPEAKER_00: People know Clomet a lot because of the beach vacation, so the sun destination vacation, which I know this is the goal of our conversation.
[4:31] SPEAKER_00: But on the other end, one third of Clomet portfolio is actually mountain resorts.
[4:38] SPEAKER_00: And when we talk about mountain, we're talking, of course, ski experience in the wintertime, you know, and all the winter sports, like shoe uh walking and so on.
[4:49] SPEAKER_00: And when you look in the summer, it's vacation at the mountains.
[4:53] SPEAKER_00: So the fresh air, trekking, mountain biking, and all the other activities that you can do in the summertime.
[5:00] SPEAKER_00: So this is something that still today, even though you know it's a big part of our operation, people do not know about Club Med.
[5:09] SPEAKER_02: Well, it's it's and the when I speak to people who have traveled with Club Med, I mean, they are loyal and they continue to go back to Club Med every year.
[5:17] SPEAKER_02: They become part of your community, they go to multiple different resorts.
[5:20] SPEAKER_02: And so it is a um uh and I want to get into that in some detail because you guys are um continuing to expand and you have this really dedicated loyal clientele.
[5:31] SPEAKER_02: But when I think about Club Med, I often I think about the beach and I think about the beach destinations, but obviously you're you know you have been evolving to be you know a year-round destination.
[5:40] SPEAKER_02: Um and but your role, obviously, you are um uh the president CEO of North America, and you've had this role now for uh nearly 20 years, and you're based in Miami, is that right?
[5:54] SPEAKER_00: Yes, I am uh based in Miami, so French Canadian, born and raised in Montreal, and moved uh in Miami with my family uh a little over seven years ago when I took uh my current role.
[6:07] SPEAKER_00: Before I was based in Montreal and I was leading the Canadian operation for Clomet.
[6:12] SPEAKER_00: So I've been for Clomet for over 15 years now.
[6:16] SPEAKER_00: And uh it's a wonderful company because not only you know you can grow within, but you have mobility also uh opportunities.
[6:27] SPEAKER_00: And what is this to give the an amazing memories to your guests?
[6:32] SPEAKER_00: Which business can we say the same, right?
[6:35] SPEAKER_00: And this is what we do every day.
[6:38] SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
[6:38] SPEAKER_02: Well, and that's where you growing up in uh Montreal or knowing um the fact you're multilingual and you have a uh uh already a much more international perspective, so you bring something quite unique to the role by virtue of having that that vantage point to begin with.
[6:54] SPEAKER_02: But specifically, what drew you into travel?
[6:56] SPEAKER_02: I mean, Montreal is such a um multicultural city and such a diverse city and such an amazing travel destination itself.
[7:03] SPEAKER_02: But what led you into the travel industry and joining ClubMed in the beginning?
[7:08] SPEAKER_00: So actually, um it started when I was really young.
[7:13] SPEAKER_00: Uh, when I had some days off, I used to love to watch The Prices Right with Bob Barker.
[7:19] SPEAKER_00: And the Prices Right story is that my mother was with me and uh I was impressed.
[7:25] SPEAKER_00: I didn't speak a word of English, but I was impressed with the prices, especially the showcase showdown at the end where they give trips and so on.
[7:34] SPEAKER_00: And every time there was a trip, I was telling my mom, and that I'm talking to you, I was maybe six, seven years old, one day, mama, I'm gonna take you on a beach vacation.
[7:45] SPEAKER_00: So it always stayed in the back of my mind, but I went, I did different uh studies, and at some point uh when I was uh early 20s, I took a trip to DR, to Puerto Plata at the time.
[7:59] SPEAKER_00: It was a very popular destination in the Dominican Republic, and I got the travel bite, if I may.
[8:07] SPEAKER_00: So I came back and I said, I was studying in psychology.
[8:10] SPEAKER_00: I came back and I said, What am I doing?
[8:12] SPEAKER_00: You know, this entire world out there that ties really with who I am.
[8:16] SPEAKER_00: I love other cultures.
[8:18] SPEAKER_00: You said it, you know, Montreal is a very cosmopolitan and diversified, you know, town.
[8:23] SPEAKER_00: Um so I said, you know what, I sat down with my mom and my dad and I told them, I'm changing program.
[8:30] SPEAKER_00: My mother did not speak to me for three weeks because she says, What are you gonna do, you know, in hospitality and hotel management?
[8:38] SPEAKER_00: You don't even speak English.
[8:40] SPEAKER_00: So uh so all that to say that that's how I started my uh travel, my travel uh, you know, career and study, of course, uh, thanks to one trip that gave me the little push that I needed to finally find my way uh during you know my um my years of uh studying.
[9:00] SPEAKER_00: Yes.
[9:01] SPEAKER_02: And your English is absolutely perfect.
[9:03] SPEAKER_02: I was uh saying to Carolyn at the beginning of our recordings, I apologize, my French is not what it should be.
[9:07] SPEAKER_02: And I there were many reasons I was so keen to have you on the podcast.
[9:10] SPEAKER_02: Obviously, you know, Club Med being part of our Sun's uh series, but yourself being a strong female executive, a Canadian, like there was, and I think this is where you have a unique perspective, especially uh given when you're a Canadian and you live in the US and you have a global role, but you know what it's like not only to attract people from around the world to these Club Med resorts, but also to help uh encourage more people from North America to experience Club Med uh around the world.
[9:37] SPEAKER_02: And so given that background and um uh the fact and the other thing I just wanted to add to that too was the fact that you have uh over the years, you have risen up inside the organization.
[9:50] SPEAKER_02: And I think that's obviously a great credit to um obviously what your ambition and contribution, but at the same time, ClubMed rec recognizing that and enabling someone to grow up inside the organization um to lead uh and become president CEO.
[10:05] SPEAKER_02: So I know that's been, I guess, like seven years now, but so tell us a little bit about your role in that capacity.
[10:12] SPEAKER_00: Sure.
[10:13] SPEAKER_00: So uh I was telling you earlier, I'm based in Miami, Miami being uh the, if I meet, the head office of our North American and Caribbean business unit.
[10:22] SPEAKER_00: Uh why Miami?
[10:24] SPEAKER_00: First, it's because uh it's the proximity to the resorts that we manage in the Caribbean.
[10:30] SPEAKER_00: So today we have six resorts, uh, five in the Caribbean and Mexico, and one in Canada, which is uh a mountain resort, and we can touch a little later on.
[10:42] SPEAKER_00: But Miami being such a big hub, it's easy to get to Turksin Caicos, to the Bahamas in Columbus Isle, to you know, our uh property in Cancun, and of course our two properties in the DR.
[10:56] SPEAKER_00: So location is key for us in order to be able, because within my role, uh, we need to get to the resorts quite a bit.
[11:04] SPEAKER_00: And uh as you said earlier, I travel quite a bit.
[11:08] SPEAKER_00: So try to minimize the travel time is key.
[11:11] SPEAKER_00: Hence, that's why we're based today in Miami for operational purpose.
[11:16] SPEAKER_00: Also, we have all the support, of course, that needed to run a fully integrated business.
[11:22] SPEAKER_00: So, of course, we have uh finance, marketing, North America, and so on here in Miami, but we have also commercial offices.
[11:30] SPEAKER_00: We have one in Mexico City, and we have one in Canada and our uh US business commercially, we have also a contact center in Arizona.
[11:41] SPEAKER_00: So we have four offices in North America, and we have six resorts, soon to be seven, because we just announced a new uh development in Mont Tremblanc, Quebec, Canada, uh set to open in December 28th.
[11:55] SPEAKER_02: That's fantastic.
[11:56] SPEAKER_02: So Mont Tremblanc is one of my favorite destinations, being based in Toronto.
[12:00] SPEAKER_02: I would snowboard there every year, and and we would always go up.
[12:03] SPEAKER_02: Ever since university, we go to Chamblanc.
[12:05] SPEAKER_02: And my wife's from Montreal, so we would um and so anyway, that's Quebec is such a stunningly beautiful destination.
[12:11] SPEAKER_02: I'm just gonna advocate for that um for all of our listeners, especially for our American friends that want to uh come and visit us in the summertime as well as in the winter.
[12:20] SPEAKER_02: But um, but let's let's talk about the sun destinations first, because obviously that is so core to the Club Med story and family travel too, which is obviously one of the big trends that we're seeing in 2026.
[12:32] SPEAKER_02: A major rise in family travel, especially amongst affluent families.
[12:35] SPEAKER_02: Multi-generational travel is really having a moment as well.
[12:39] SPEAKER_02: But tell us a little bit, especially when you're based in a place like Miami, which is already a sun destination itself.
[12:44] SPEAKER_02: And as you just said, it's a gateway to all the incredible sun holiday resorts that you operate.
[12:49] SPEAKER_02: Tell us a little bit about how the model was created of a club med experience.
[12:54] SPEAKER_02: So for those people who are not familiar, obviously you explain the history of the of the brand, but in terms of the experience that is consistent amongst the resorts you offer.
[13:02] SPEAKER_02: So if you wouldn't mind just giving us an overview of the Sun Resort type uh club med experience and how that's expanded over the last sort of uh five or 10 years.
[13:11] SPEAKER_00: Sure.
[13:12] SPEAKER_00: So I told you that uh we're celebrating 76 years of history, of course, this this month.
[13:18] SPEAKER_00: But the thing that uh it's important to highlight is that Clement is the pioneer of the all-inclusive vacation as we know it today.
[13:25] SPEAKER_00: So in 1950, when the brand was born, we had the all-inclusive was also born.
[13:31] SPEAKER_00: So it's something that uh we're very proud of.
[13:34] SPEAKER_00: Uh as you know, many others uh hoteliers and resorts have now entered the all-inclusive market.
[13:41] SPEAKER_00: But being the pioneer, uh let's say that we have a strong know-how in the all-inclusive field.
[13:47] SPEAKER_00: So when you go to a Clomed uh Beach Resorts, uh because one of our value is pioneering, we often start a new destination.
[13:57] SPEAKER_00: I can give you two strong uh uh two strong uh experiences that we have, and you will understand right away.
[14:06] SPEAKER_00: In 1976, we actually opened our Clamat Cancun property.
[14:14] SPEAKER_00: When we arrived in Cancun, there was no other hotel.
[14:18] SPEAKER_00: There was not even an airport.
[14:20] SPEAKER_00: And the Mexican government told us if you come here, we will beat, we will build an airport near you.
[14:29] SPEAKER_00: We are not too far from the airport, not even 10 minutes away, and we will build an airport.
[14:34] SPEAKER_00: All that to say, if you look today where Clomet is located, is it really on a pristine parcel very near to the airport, extremely low density, which today you cannot have anymore in this destination.
[14:48] SPEAKER_00: So Clomet was the first one to arrive and to create the Cancun destination.
[14:53] SPEAKER_00: Move a couple of years afterwards, the same story applies to Punta Cana.
[14:58] SPEAKER_00: We all know Punta Cana today.
[15:00] SPEAKER_00: You're an expert, you know, in uh in travel, and we know Punta Cana is an extremely popular destination for North Americans, but also for people from all over the world.
[15:11] SPEAKER_00: In 1978, the first time that our founder came to Punta Cana, okay, he arrived, he met with the government authority and so on, and they say, if you want to come, you know, we'll support you.
[15:25] SPEAKER_00: So Clomed actually started to build Punta Cana in 1979.
[15:32] SPEAKER_00: We opened early 1981, and we in parallel to this, we built the airport.
[15:40] SPEAKER_00: So not only we started a destination, but we create actually the airport.
[15:46] SPEAKER_00: No need to tell you that 30 years later the airport is not the original and it doesn't belong to us anymore.
[15:52] SPEAKER_00: But just to show you, in terms of what Clomet is about, is about pioneering a new destination.
[15:59] SPEAKER_00: So when you arrive to Clomet, it could be in the Seychelles, uh, it could be in Punta Cena, it could also be in Marbela, which is our destination on the Costa del Sol in Spain, very well known.
[16:11] SPEAKER_00: Clomet as usually, almost all the time, the best location.
[16:18] SPEAKER_00: Because often we are we were the first to arrive, which is key for us in our today uh development, of course, and properties, but also also for tomorrow.
[16:29] SPEAKER_00: Clomet will not just go to go somewhere, we will go because all our development criteria are there, and the number one criteria, of course, is to have an amazing location, beaches.
[16:42] SPEAKER_00: So anywhere you will go, you're talking about standards, standards, you know, in Clemet, you should you will have a magnificent space after.
[16:51] SPEAKER_00: What differentiate Clemet from other all inclusive is our GO.
[16:56] SPEAKER_00: GO are our gentle organizers, so they are the host.
[17:00] SPEAKER_00: So they are the people that greet you as soon as you arrive at the airport, or if you you took your own transfer, and they are hosting you through your vacation.
[17:10] SPEAKER_00: And these geos are the ones who are making climate what it is today.
[17:15] SPEAKER_00: We have a strong uh climate spirit that we like to describe, you know, but it's hard to describe a spirit, right?
[17:22] SPEAKER_00: But it's through our team on site worldwide how we can vehicle what climate experience is about.
[17:31] SPEAKER_00: After being European French-based, you know, company in our uh DNA, the food, the culinary offer is something extremely important for us.
[17:43] SPEAKER_00: So, regardless if you are in Malaysia at a Clement or you are in Brazil or here in the Caribbean, you will always have what we call the marqueur of Clomed in terms of culinary.
[17:59] SPEAKER_00: You will have the fresh croissant, like if you were, you know, somewhere in France.
[18:03] SPEAKER_00: You will have uh foie gras on one night, you will have different noble product that this is across Clomet all over because it's part of our DNA and uh what we want to offer to our clients.
[18:19] SPEAKER_00: After Clomet is the biggest sports school in the world still today.
[18:23] SPEAKER_00: I was telling you that Gerald Blitz, the uh he was an athlete, he was actually a water polo uh Olympian um athlete, and the sports was an extremely important component of the Clumet offer.
[18:37] SPEAKER_00: So, fast forward to today, you have more or less 20 activities included, and you're all inclusive with state-of-the-art equipment, with lessons for every level.
[18:48] SPEAKER_00: So if you want to play pickleball, well, you can go to Cancun.
[18:52] SPEAKER_00: We have 12 courts of pickleball, you know, and different resorts cater to different activities, of course, depending on where we're located and so on.
[19:03] SPEAKER_00: But we have usually an average of 20 activities and sports included in a big quantity, so you don't have to say you're entitled to do one hour of sea kayaking per day per guest and things like that.
[19:15] SPEAKER_00: It's quite that's the luxury of freedom, right?
[19:19] SPEAKER_00: And yes, so I would say in a nutshell, nutshell was a bit long, but in a nutshell, uh what Clamed uh is about, and that remained over the years, and it's the it's set to remain also because this is what sets Clamat apart.
[19:36] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's really interesting.
[19:37] SPEAKER_02: Well, you what you just shared was very uh uh meaningful for me because that you answered several questions all at once, which was one of the things I was and one of them was really, really incredibly important.
[19:47] SPEAKER_02: I just wanted to underscore this for all of our listeners, and then I had you have a follow-on question to it.
[19:51] SPEAKER_02: But when you talk about the fact that you are the originators of the all-inclusive concept, because there has been so many followers.
[19:58] SPEAKER_02: And I was in Cancun recently, and our guide was telling us about the history of Cancun and Club Med and the airport being built, and because there was only about four or five people that lived in Cancun before the decision was made that it was gonna be this is a perfect spot based on sunshine.
[20:13] SPEAKER_02: Like they had done their homework to say this is where we need to build, and obviously you are a key part of that.
[20:17] SPEAKER_02: And then, you know, we absolutely all know Punta Cana, like being a North uh North American, these Caribbean destinations that we have become iconic.
[20:25] SPEAKER_02: Obviously, these are the this is the path, and that's exactly why I was keen to ask you that question is like, how did this all come together?
[20:31] SPEAKER_02: And the and the following question I had for this is because when I hear people rave about the ClubMed experience, it's because they are hosted, and that is still what's unique.
[20:39] SPEAKER_02: So my I'm always uh very keen, and I know our listeners are too, to understand what is the unique selling feature, what is the what is truly unique about Club Med.
[20:47] SPEAKER_02: And that is what stands out to me.
[20:50] SPEAKER_02: And one of the things along those lines is why families clearly love uh traveling to Club Med.
[20:57] SPEAKER_02: We'll be right back.
[20:59] SPEAKER_01: Travel has changed.
[21:01] SPEAKER_01: But many multi-day tour operators are still stuck with spreadsheets and disconnected systems.
[21:06] SPEAKER_01: Today's travelers expect more, more choice, more flexibility, more unforgettable moments without the friction.
[21:13] SPEAKER_01: That's where Captio comes in.
[21:15] SPEAKER_01: Built on Salesforce, Captio is a modern platform designed specifically for multi-day tour operators.
[21:20] SPEAKER_01: From tailor-made trips to group tours, from rail to river to crews, we bring your itineraries, bookings, payments, and operations together in one seamless system.
[21:30] SPEAKER_01: With automation, real-time inventory, and supplier integrations, we make complex travel simple.
[21:36] SPEAKER_01: So you can focus on what you do best.
[21:38] SPEAKER_01: Serve travelers, not spreadsheets.
[21:42] SPEAKER_01: In a world of endless travel options, how do you guarantee quality?
[21:46] SPEAKER_01: The answer is curation, and it's the core of Civitadas, the leading marketplace for global tours and activities.
[21:52] SPEAKER_01: Instead of just more options, their promise is more quality.
[21:56] SPEAKER_01: Their experts handpick the best from over 90,000 activities in.
[22:00] SPEAKER_01: 4,000 destinations worldwide, ensuring every tour meets the highest standards of quality, availability, and price.

[23:23] SPEAKER_02: And now back to the show.
[23:26] SPEAKER_02: And so tell us about the all-inclusive family experience and how closely that was connected to the origin of the brand and you know the beach holiday concept initially.
[23:35] SPEAKER_02: Was family really what was it about from the beginning?
[23:40] SPEAKER_00: So family was from the beginning, but it was not the core of our clients in those years.
[23:46] SPEAKER_00: There's been a really big evolution of our brand and uh an evolution also of the expectation of our clients and an evolution also of what people are looking for in their vacation.
[24:00] SPEAKER_00: So one of the strengths of Clement is that we were always trying to be ahead of the trends, but also to try to know the next thing that our clients will want to uh in their future vacation.
[24:13] SPEAKER_00: So when we started, it was mainly for friends, active uh adults, and so on.
[24:20] SPEAKER_00: But Clement was a visionary because in the 1960s, uh I will have to double check the exact year, we create the kids club.
[24:29] SPEAKER_00: So the kids were always on our mind because eventually our clients, and you said it earlier, they come back to Clement.
[24:37] SPEAKER_00: So the one who was there with friends, and several of them have met their partners at Clement, and now they're having kids and they wanted to come back to Clement.
[24:46] SPEAKER_00: So Clomet says, Well, we need to cater for them too.
[24:49] SPEAKER_00: So now we open our kids' club.
[24:51] SPEAKER_00: So we take kids as of four months at the baby club, and we have entertainment and kids' club all the way to 17 years old, which is for our teenagers.
[25:02] SPEAKER_00: And all that started in the 60s.
[25:05] SPEAKER_00: And as the year went along, again, people, expectation, and what they were looking for when they want to travel, we had a big shift to family uh clientele.
[25:17] SPEAKER_00: So today, 70% of our clientele worldwide, worldwide, are families.
[25:22] SPEAKER_00: And why it's so important for us, even more so now, it's because Clumid, we create more than an experience and a vacation.
[25:30] SPEAKER_00: We create memories.
[25:32] SPEAKER_00: And the best memories that you have on vacation is often with your loved one.
[25:36] SPEAKER_00: And when you see your kids on stage doing a mini-club show, or where you see your kids making friends with all other kids all over the world, that even sometimes not even speak the same language, but they understand one another.
[25:48] SPEAKER_00: And you see them on the trapeze, where you would have never seen them on the trapeze in their life.
[25:55] SPEAKER_00: This is exactly what Clement is about.
[25:57] SPEAKER_00: So it's the perfect playground for families.
[26:00] SPEAKER_00: The beauty of it is now the way we're creating our experience and the way we're building our new resorts, is that we're catering for families, we're catering for 3G travelers because they're very present, and we're also catering for adults traveling without children.
[26:18] SPEAKER_00: So the key for us when we're talking about the evolution of the family market is to have spaces that everyone within the family can have their own experience and vacation.
[26:30] SPEAKER_00: So, to give you an example, in some of our property, we have what we call the Xen Oasis space.
[26:36] SPEAKER_00: This is for 18 years old.
[26:38] SPEAKER_00: It's adult only.
[26:39] SPEAKER_00: There's a private pool, a private uh uh F and B bar offer, and you can also buy room.
[26:46] SPEAKER_00: But let's say you go with your kids and the parents of your parents or your parents of your partner comes with you.
[26:55] SPEAKER_00: The parents don't necessarily want to be in the family zone.
[26:59] SPEAKER_00: The parent the grandparents, sorry.
[27:01] SPEAKER_00: So the grandparents will go into the zen oasis, the parents will go into the family zone, the kids club, the kids will go to kids club the day after.
[27:10] SPEAKER_00: You will go meet your parents at the zen, because when your kids at the kids club, many of us, I'm among, do not want to have the others' kids with us, right?
[27:18] SPEAKER_00: If they are having fun, let's, you know, enjoy our time as adults.
[27:23] SPEAKER_00: So you can have this experience.
[27:25] SPEAKER_00: So that's the beauty of comment, and it's one of our main differentiation.
[27:30] SPEAKER_00: Also, it's a hard word.
[27:32] SPEAKER_00: Um uh that we're doing today in terms of our product offer.
[27:36] SPEAKER_00: So it's catering for families with young kids because as of four months, you can leave your kid at the baby club, and you can also have a real vacation for you, rest at the spa, or go do activities knowing that your kids are safe and taken care of.
[27:53] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's I mean, and then that's the beauty, I think, of the adults-only concept as well.
[27:59] SPEAKER_02: And I even actually, uh Catherine, who you met as one of our producers, her, she's got young kids and she loves the all-inclusive experience.
[28:05] SPEAKER_02: They they've already been earlier this year, they're going back to Cancun later this year, and her and her husband each take time to go to swim in the adult pool, the other one looks after the kids.
[28:13] SPEAKER_02: So that's sort of the trade-off they've worked out.
[28:15] SPEAKER_02: That you kind of you do need both.
[28:16] SPEAKER_02: But the one thing that's beautiful about the Club Med experience, I know, is how well the kids are taken care of.
[28:20] SPEAKER_02: And you already mentioned the trapeze, which is something that ClubMed has become iconic for.
[28:25] SPEAKER_02: And that's the number of people I see pictures of themselves or like when they were doing the trapeze at a Club Med, it's like that's I associate the two very strongly.
[28:32] SPEAKER_02: How how did that particular activity come about?
[28:35] SPEAKER_02: And and the the the follow-up question I already have for that one is like when I think about all-inclusive experiences today, clearly Club Med is staying ahead of the competition by continuing to innovate and coming up with interesting activities.
[28:47] SPEAKER_02: Obviously, you were ahead of the curve with that one.
[28:50] SPEAKER_02: Um, and you're also highlighting the multitude of experiences that you're focusing on offering so that there's something for everyone to do, especially the difficult-to-please teenagers that you highlighted to 17.
[29:00] SPEAKER_02: I know we have kids that are first year university, and so we also know then how much more difficult it was to travel with them.
[29:06] SPEAKER_02: They were 14, 15, and 16 because they weren't little kids anymore.
[29:09] SPEAKER_02: They went in the kid pool and they want they weren't old enough to go to the club, and they're somewhere in that awkward between uh space.
[29:14] SPEAKER_02: So uh I guess what I'm asking here is tell us the history of the trapeze, and then if you wouldn't mind sharing some of the more recent innovations for the all-inclusive experience.
[29:24] SPEAKER_00: Sure.
[29:24] SPEAKER_00: The history of the trapeze is I was telling you earlier that we often have uh the best location.
[29:31] SPEAKER_00: So that means for us low density.
[29:33] SPEAKER_00: And low density is a marker of luxury.
[29:36] SPEAKER_00: So we have this marker of luxuries since our creation.
[29:40] SPEAKER_00: Having low uh density allows you to put a trapeze because it's a big structure.
[29:46] SPEAKER_00: Okay, and Clemet being uh, you know, the creator of the all-inclusive, always looking at it, we thought which activities can we offer safely, because safety is number one concern, safely, that would differentiate.
[30:00] SPEAKER_00: There were not many all-inclusive back then, but can differentiate us from other beach uh resorts, right?
[30:07] SPEAKER_00: And finally, that's how the trapeze uh was born.
[30:11] SPEAKER_00: And uh we have started a start a circuit school, we started to have geo that specializes in trapeze.
[30:17] SPEAKER_00: And trapeze is for our guests, but it's also for entertainment.
[30:21] SPEAKER_00: Because the guests they take a lot of pride when they do their first trapeze jump, when they do their first catch, and so on.
[30:28] SPEAKER_00: But also we use it a lot in terms of entertainment.
[30:32] SPEAKER_00: When you go and you see these uh GO, because they're all geo, so from our team, they are multicultural and you see them perform on the trapeze and all the other circus, you know, activity, you know, the cords, the and the ribbon and things like that.
[30:50] SPEAKER_00: These these young uh athletes, because they are athletes, are just amazing.
[30:57] SPEAKER_00: And it gives such a show, such an entertainment to our for our guests, and even more so because the guests they know the person.
[31:08] SPEAKER_00: So they have met Megan on their arrival, and Megan might have said, Come, I'll take you to your room and I'll give you a tour along the way, and so on.
[31:16] SPEAKER_00: And one night Megan is on the trapeze and she's doing doing things that you didn't even think it was possible, and you have that connection, so it creates such an amazing moment.
[31:28] SPEAKER_00: So, trapeze, yes, for the sports, of course, and it's a markov also for our kids, they love it.
[31:34] SPEAKER_00: Uh, parents to overcome some of their fear or overcome, you know, things it's quite high, and it's you know, you get out of your comfort zone.
[31:43] SPEAKER_00: And for us, in terms of, you know, entertainment, it's it's a really important part of our entertainment.
[31:50] SPEAKER_02: And one of the other developments that I saw that I was really excited about too was the fact you've introduced the exclusive collection.
[31:56] SPEAKER_00: So indeed, I was telling you earlier that the clients' expectation has evolved over the year.
[32:03] SPEAKER_00: So it's up to us, you know, I was telling you that uh low density is a new luxury, so we continue to capitalize on this.
[32:11] SPEAKER_00: Indeed, we were talking about different zoning into our product, you know, to cater to different clientele.
[32:17] SPEAKER_00: And exclusive collection is one of them.
[32:19] SPEAKER_00: When start when we started in Clamed, uh our resorts was hot.
[32:25] SPEAKER_00: You know, there was no lock on the door, there was no television and so on.
[32:30] SPEAKER_00: No need to tell you that over 75 years later, the level of comfort that people are looking for is very different.
[32:37] SPEAKER_00: So we have continued, you know, to evolve also in terms of our accommodation.
[32:42] SPEAKER_00: And now we have what we call exclusive collection resorts or exclusive collection space, so within a premium resort, which the highest accommodation and service of all of our range.
[32:56] SPEAKER_00: So in North America, the first one that we have created is Meaches, and again, another example of being pioneering.
[33:04] SPEAKER_00: We opened Meches in nine in 2019, and uh for the first time, we actually, it was a jungle.
[33:12] SPEAKER_00: We built the road, we built all the infrastructure and so on.
[33:16] SPEAKER_00: And today we have we have uh great neighbors.
[33:19] SPEAKER_00: We have four hotels that came to that uh new destination.
[33:23] SPEAKER_00: So Meches, when we built it, we built it as an exclusive collection resort.
[33:28] SPEAKER_00: So meaning that it's all five-star accommodations, it's four boutique hotel with its own identity.
[33:35] SPEAKER_00: So you have suites for for couples with their own private pool, you have penthouse and uh dedicated suites for families with their own pool.
[33:47] SPEAKER_00: You have a Zen oasis for adult only with also their own pool.
[33:51] SPEAKER_00: And after you have the rest of the resort, which is premium resort with you know all the core range and activities.
[33:58] SPEAKER_00: So the level of service is much higher, the level of personalization is much higher.
[34:05] SPEAKER_00: And again, being in this the first to a destination, the surrounding is just the destination itself.
[34:13] SPEAKER_00: It's very different than what you have seen somewhere else in the Dominican Republic.
[34:18] SPEAKER_00: So you feel like you're in an exquisite destination, you're alone, you can truly disconnect.
[34:25] SPEAKER_00: And after we can not talk about innovation without talking about sustainability.
[34:30] SPEAKER_00: And sustainability now is top of mind of all of our clients.
[34:35] SPEAKER_00: You know, we talk a lot about carbon footprint, we talk a lot about operations, and we're proud to say that almost all of our 60-something resorts are Green Globe certified.
[34:47] SPEAKER_00: And what is Green Globe?
[34:48] SPEAKER_00: It's an operational certification with over 300 criteria that are reviewed every year.
[34:55] SPEAKER_00: So it's not a certification, and after you say, okay, I'm good, I'm certified.
[34:58] SPEAKER_00: Uh no, it's something that we have to win every year to prove, and these certifications are getting harder and harder because we know.
[35:06] SPEAKER_00: So we have to be careful on uh anything from um electricity to water reduce to local, also um using local product and so on.
[35:18] SPEAKER_00: Everything that touched the operation, the waste.
[35:21] SPEAKER_00: So we are almost all certified Green Lobe, and any new destination or resort that we are doing, they will be certified either BREAM or LEED, which is the certification for the construction.
[35:37] SPEAKER_00: Today, the customer, our customers, uh are looking at making a difference when they travel.
[35:43] SPEAKER_00: They don't want to just to consume for the sake of consuming.
[35:48] SPEAKER_00: They want to know there's a purpose, they want to know it's respecting the community where you know we are uh operating.
[35:58] SPEAKER_00: And for us, since the beginning of the brand, it's been uh a priority that when we arrive, it's up to us to really fit within that ecosystem and not the reverse.
[36:14] SPEAKER_00: So we become, you know, this way a partner for the region, an economic also uh support, and we help a lot of the communities, you know, we have a foundation, we give back to the communities and so on.
[36:28] SPEAKER_00: So the people, when they come and they see that your criteria for operation are very sustainable, that the way you build your resorts, you know, with uh smart thermostats, so when someone is not in the room, you know, we manage the temperature, things like that, that we don't do things just to do things.
[36:48] SPEAKER_00: And people, uh our guests, truly appreciate this.
[36:52] SPEAKER_00: So when we talk about innovation, innovation can be from a product standpoint, but it also has to be from an operation and on a building standpoint, also.
[37:01] SPEAKER_01: We'll be right back.

[38:49] SPEAKER_02: And now, back to the show.
[38:52] SPEAKER_02: As we talk about the areas that ClubMed has pushed into, it's obviously you've pushed into luxury.
[38:57] SPEAKER_02: Tell us a little bit about how you guys have moved into the wellness space, because you know that's a whole different category of parents that are stressed out.
[39:02] SPEAKER_02: They just want to have a relaxing time and they want to do like a because travelers have become so active in recent years and very concerned about their health and they want to maintain their fitness on holiday.
[39:12] SPEAKER_02: They want to eat well, they want to exercise.
[39:14] SPEAKER_02: And so this is not what use people used to call that fly and flop holiday, right?
[39:17] SPEAKER_02: That people just want to go and lie on the beach.
[39:19] SPEAKER_02: And an all-inclusive sometimes can mean overindulging on your holiday.
[39:23] SPEAKER_02: And a lot of people have realized that's not what they want.
[39:25] SPEAKER_02: They want an all-inclusive, everything's taken care of, but they want to be healthy and they want so tell us a little bit about the wellness trend at Club Med.
[39:33] SPEAKER_00: So, yes.
[39:34] SPEAKER_00: So, wellness, I would not call it a trend.
[39:37] SPEAKER_00: Wellness now, it's part of uh the way people want to live.
[39:43] SPEAKER_00: So it's part of the, you know, uh regular people want to stay fit, they want to eat well, they some of them, you know, uh come and there can be plant-based, which we adapt our menu and consequences also.
[39:57] SPEAKER_00: So it's really the new way of living.
[40:00] SPEAKER_00: So it's there and it will stay because trends sometimes they they go away.
[40:05] SPEAKER_00: We understood this on a uh very early on.
[40:08] SPEAKER_00: You know, I was talking to you about culinary offer, but I talk about noble products, but we always have, you know, healthy corner, of course, and so on.
[40:17] SPEAKER_00: In Nietzsche's, we took this to another level.
[40:20] SPEAKER_00: We have created actually a program which runs over the course of four weeks.
[40:25] SPEAKER_00: It was the first year today, this year in January, so mid-January to mid-February, is called Wellness Fusion.
[40:33] SPEAKER_00: And how the wellness fusion is is that over the course of these four weeks, our guests have the choice to experiment 20 outside uh wellness um experts in different fields.
[40:49] SPEAKER_00: So it can be in yoga, relaxation, soundball, um, arts, it can also be on fitness, uh, on um on food.
[41:00] SPEAKER_00: All of this, it's on the course of four weeks, and these 20 experts give uh classes.
[41:09] SPEAKER_00: So you can have a class with a very high master of yoga in the palapah that you were mentioning, right in the middle of the jungle.
[41:19] SPEAKER_00: And you can have a session of sound bowl, and you after you talk to the person again, you see the person, you know, through your stay, and you get to know this person and you share experience and so on.
[41:30] SPEAKER_00: So it's really to make your mind and your body, you know, in one and to allow you to disconnect, but to reconnect with yourself, which is key today, you said it fast, fast-paced environment and so on.
[41:44] SPEAKER_00: So the wellness fusion program is in me just today.
[41:48] SPEAKER_00: What I can tell you is we're looking at uh declining it, so putting it in other resorts, not just in America, in North America, but also outside of this part of the world, because it was a very uh big success.
[42:02] SPEAKER_00: The um satisfaction of our guests was uh tremendous.
[42:06] SPEAKER_00: And again, this is something that the guests of today, parents, and also, you know, uh adults are looking for.
[42:16] SPEAKER_00: And um we have wellness programs into all of our you know resorts because we have spa, we have state-of-the-art exact exercise room, uh yoga is part of our offer, you know, we have uh walking club, you know, you can do a lot of sports.
[42:32] SPEAKER_00: So wellness is already, but also we did some strategic partnership, and one of them is Chef Chloe, and she's a plant-based chef that came into our resort and trained our uh chef, international chef, on how to cook delicious plant-based meal.
[42:51] SPEAKER_00: Because plant-based, you cannot just come with some, you know, always the same menu and some basic, you know, people are there to have a culinary experience.
[43:01] SPEAKER_00: And you have to cater for what the people's expectations are nowadays.
[43:06] SPEAKER_00: So we understood this, and again, you know, we did some strategic partnership with uh a renowned chef that trained our teens so now we can have uh pen-based menu across our resorts.
[43:21] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's amazing.
[43:22] SPEAKER_02: It's amazing.
[43:22] SPEAKER_02: And the other part as it relates to wellness is the destinations that you've introduced beyond the beach.
[43:27] SPEAKER_02: Uh like Charleville looks incredible in Quebec, and I think you obviously expanded to ski resorts.
[43:32] SPEAKER_02: Tell us a little bit about that global expansion outside of the beach destinations, and then I'm obviously keen for you to bring us back to the fact that you are also, you know, just recently uh launched South Africa, um, or it's a new launch coming up for you.
[43:48] SPEAKER_02: Uh but yeah, beyond the beach, where did the idea of doing the resorts and was that connected to the outdoor kind of active lifestyle and and building more of like a year round community?
[43:58] SPEAKER_00: So uh we have a very Ambitious uh development plan.
[44:02] SPEAKER_00: Indeed, it it's beach resorts uh everywhere, and I'll get to South Africa afterwards.
[44:08] SPEAKER_00: Uh, but also the ski.
[44:10] SPEAKER_00: Because if one thing that they created us in the all-inclusive market, it's the ski offer.
[44:15] SPEAKER_00: Today nobody does all inclusive ski and leave alone the weight limit, does it?
[44:20] SPEAKER_00: And it caters also to family.
[44:21] SPEAKER_00: So it's wonderful for parents when you can bring your five-year-old, actually in his PJ, if you want, you leave him at the kids club, we dress him, we put him on the slopes, and we give him lessons.
[44:33] SPEAKER_00: And they do it having f fun with friends and so on.
[44:37] SPEAKER_00: So that's a very uh, you know, uh important uh differentiator for comment.
[44:43] SPEAKER_00: Looking at uh our uh future resort, which is set to open this summer in South Africa, it's our first uh surf resort and also safari resort.
[44:57] SPEAKER_00: So this is gonna be uh we just opened the cells actually not too long ago.
[45:01] SPEAKER_00: So it's located actually in uh the Indian uh ocean, of course, of the coast of Kuwa, Zulu, Natal.
[45:10] SPEAKER_00: And I apologize if I didn't say it properly, but we will have an exclusive collection uh you know, resort where it's going to be the first surf school in the world for climate.
[45:25] SPEAKER_00: So if you want to learn how to surf, I invite you and your family to come and experience this in South Africa because it's easily accessible.
[45:35] SPEAKER_00: You know, we're 45 minutes away from Durban and uh we're 30 minutes away from the national airport, Kinshaka.
[45:43] SPEAKER_00: Uh, so easily accessible and four hours and a half away from the surf, beautiful beach destination, we have our first new safari lodge.
[45:56] SPEAKER_00: And our safari lodge uh is the home of the five big of Africa animals that are in a huge 18,000 hectares reserve.
[46:11] SPEAKER_00: And uh the guests can actually see these big five, and they there's only climate that it's there today.
[46:19] SPEAKER_00: So, again, very uh strong innovation for Clomet, but also strong innovation in the all-inclusive and resort uh market, because you can in the same vacation, you can surf and you can do a safari.
[46:36] SPEAKER_00: And it's gonna be a wonderful experience.
[46:38] SPEAKER_00: Uh, I can tell you more because now we're not open, but the sales are doing wonderful.
[46:43] SPEAKER_00: And I take this opportunity, of course, to thank our travel partners because uh they are our best ambassador, and thanks to them, we had a great sales opening.
[46:53] SPEAKER_00: So thank you.
[46:54] SPEAKER_02: That's amazing.
[46:55] SPEAKER_02: Obviously, I love South Africa and the idea of being able to do those, not only the surfing, which is uh very cool, but you know, the idea of doing safari, because it certainly has been one of the most amazing trips we've ever done is doing safari.
[47:06] SPEAKER_02: It's truly memorable and stays with you.
[47:08] SPEAKER_02: And the number of people have said, you know, you haven't really experienced travels you've done a safari, just being um so the but the one thing I want to just uh finish off on, because obviously um you know we've talked about the brand and your role, we've talked about the amazing experiences at the resorts.
[47:22] SPEAKER_02: Um, but you were just touching on it, which are this partners.
[47:25] SPEAKER_02: And so just to finish off, uh it is a huge part of our audience, of course, and and and all of our listeners know how bullish I am on uh the continued success of travel advisors, even in the face of AI and other platforms.
[47:39] SPEAKER_02: But how important are travel advisors and partners and driving bookings for Club Med?
[47:43] SPEAKER_02: And if you wouldn't mind leaving us with some opportunities that you see for advisors when it comes to being able to sell all-inclusive or sun destinations and obviously now uh under having a better understanding of the Club Med offering.
[47:57] SPEAKER_00: Well, travel partners, travel advisor are extremely important for Club Med.
[48:02] SPEAKER_00: They have always been important to us, you know, since the beginning, and they will remain.
[48:08] SPEAKER_00: Um they are for us our best ambassador.
[48:13] SPEAKER_00: They are for us the best spokesperson, you know, outside of our sales team.
[48:17] SPEAKER_00: So I consider an extension of our our beautiful sales team.
[48:21] SPEAKER_00: And obviously, we cannot do it without them.
[48:25] SPEAKER_00: So that's very easy.
[48:26] SPEAKER_00: We took a commitment towards them that is always a price parity.
[48:30] SPEAKER_00: We always offer very generous commission rate, and it's a true partnership.
[48:36] SPEAKER_00: So in times of uh sometimes, you know, we have a crisis and so on, we're always there for our travel advisor, and we put them first uh to make sure they are okay, so we're all okay.
[48:49] SPEAKER_00: So extremely important uh for us, and we will continue to capitalize on them because for them, what's in it for them, high revenue, of course, but you said it earlier, we have an extremely high repeat guest rate.
[49:04] SPEAKER_00: So when we descend a new client to the right Lamed, they usually gain a client for life.
[49:11] SPEAKER_00: So the client will come back to them and say, you know what, we liked our experience, we would like to try another one and another one.
[49:18] SPEAKER_00: So they're creating a pipeline.
[49:20] SPEAKER_00: The fact that we're catering for families, but also we could do affinity groups, we can also do wedding with them, we can also do, you know, different types of uh of travels opens up also for them, you know, many other opportunities than just you know do the family segment.
[49:40] SPEAKER_00: You know, so Clomette allows them to grow their revenue.
[49:44] SPEAKER_00: And again, this is a true partnership.
[49:46] SPEAKER_00: It's you know, it has to be a win-win for everybody, and of course, and is a happy customer.
[49:52] SPEAKER_00: So uh so again, uh, and I take this opportunity again to thank them.
[49:57] SPEAKER_00: I thank them on South Africa, but I'm thanking them for everything too because I know we all know they have a lot of choices, and when they they they have confidence in climate product, you know, uh we we should recognize that because uh it's important, of course, to us.
[50:14] SPEAKER_00: And again, you know, we do things differently, and we have destinations that others do not, so it can also open up for them other destinations that are not so classic, you know, like the Maldives, all inclusive, you know, I was mentioning the Seychelles earlier.
[50:32] SPEAKER_00: Um, we, you know, we have wonderful uh resorts in in Malaysia, Indonesia.
[50:38] SPEAKER_00: So when you look at all of that, you know, it's for them it's a great business opportunity also.
[50:44] SPEAKER_00: And we're always there, they're never alone.
[50:46] SPEAKER_00: We're always there, you know, to of course answer any questions, but give them the right tools because tools is extremely important uh today.
[50:55] SPEAKER_00: We have a very uh knowledgeable uh contact center team.
[51:02] SPEAKER_00: Uh so all that is in place for them to succeed and of course to do it efficiently, which is key also today because it's a very fast pace.
[51:12] SPEAKER_00: And we're trying to make it as simple and as easy for them with the booking process, with access to information and so on.
[51:20] SPEAKER_00: So when you put all this together, usually it's a win-win for everybody.
[51:25] SPEAKER_00: And uh and yes, so uh we're looking forward to continue our partnership with our travel partners.
[51:31] SPEAKER_02: That's terrific.
[51:32] SPEAKER_02: I'm sure that was music to the ears of many of our listeners.
[51:35] SPEAKER_02: I know you already have many huge fans in the travel advisor community.
[51:38] SPEAKER_02: I'm sure you've made more on this podcast.
[51:40] SPEAKER_02: You've certainly made one in uh myself for sure.
[51:43] SPEAKER_02: I can't wait to travel to Club Med, whether it's adults only with my wife or at some point with our kids as well, because I know they'd still love it, even uh, and they'll want to travel with their partners now because we're at that stage of life where they have boyfriend and girlfriend.
[51:55] SPEAKER_02: And so um I look forward to learning more about Club Med following your journey.
[51:59] SPEAKER_02: And I know our time is a little bit limited, so I want to be mindful of that.
[52:02] SPEAKER_02: And I will uh close off with some of the things for all of our listeners to know.
[52:06] SPEAKER_02: But before I let you go, I just want to say two things.

[52:39] SPEAKER_02: Congrats to you and the team for your continued success.
[52:42] SPEAKER_02: For my brand evolution, I think you can see just how Club Med's all-inclusive model is growing demand for premium sun experiences.
[52:51] SPEAKER_02: But as you heard, it's not just sunned, it's also ski.
[52:54] SPEAKER_02: And there's a huge focus on wellness, and it's exciting to see how that brand continues to expand.
[52:59] SPEAKER_02: But as we did the Sun holidays, I thought it was such a perfect company to profile, given the history of the all-inclusive and how they developed these sun holidays and continue to expand the Club Med concept around the world.
[53:11] SPEAKER_02: Now, if you want more information, you can just check out Clubmed.com.
