Victor Wembanyama's BOUNCE BACK Electrifies Gil's Arena as the Gil's Arena Crew reacts to Victor Wembanyama returning to carry the San Antonio Spurs following his ejection for throwing a hostile elbow in Game 4 of their NBA Playoff Series against the Minnesota Timberwolves and discuss what statement the Alien & the Spurs made with their big win. They also debate if Wemby is playing his fellow french man Rudy Gobert off the floor as the former defensive player of the year is getting dominated in the series and break down what adjustments Gobert, Anthony Edwards and the rest of the Timberwolves need to make with their backs against the walls. Next, they react to big news for the Philadelphia 76ers as the process came to a screeching halt after the team decided to move on from GM Daryl Morey following their elimination from the NBA Playoffs and debate what's next for the team as they are forced to build around a roster clogged with big contracts for Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey & Paul George. They then break down the state of the Los Angeles Lakers as the team faces a pivotal offseason with LeBron James & Austin Reaves both set to become free agents and debate where the team goes from here as they must either build around their current Big 3 that couldn't get it done in the NBA Playoffs or start over completely to build around Luka Doncic. Finally, they react to the NBA Draft Lottery as the Washington Wizards came away with the #1 overall pick and give their take on the Indiana Pacers losing out on their top 5 pick after winning just 19 games this season. [0:05] Speaker 1: Welcome back to Gil's Arena presenting my underdog. Whoa, whoa.
[0:08] Speaker 2: Whoa, whoa.
[0:09] Speaker 1: Another glorious day here in the arena. Got the crew here.
[0:14] Speaker 3: Need you around my house to yell at my kids.
[0:18] Speaker 3: That deep voice, yeah. His voice so deep you'll have
[0:22] Speaker 3: to yell at the kids.
[0:23] Speaker 4: I just hope he's not dressed for my funeral. That's
[0:25] Speaker 4: all I care about.
[0:26] Speaker 1: Is there a funeral?
[0:28] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[0:30] Speaker 5: Celebration of life. But this is Gil's Arena. Presented by
[0:37] Speaker 5: Hunter Dog. I'm your host, Josiah Johnson. And we got
[0:40] Speaker 5: one of the biggest legends in the sports media game,
[0:42] Speaker 5: Skip Bayless, back in the building here with us. Representing tough, crowded,
[0:49] Speaker 5: car-carrying country club member, we got Mr. B.
[0:51] Speaker 1: Brandon Jennings. There it is.
[0:55] Speaker 2: Get down that fairway.
[0:56] Speaker 5: We have the distinguished gentleman from Oak Cliff and also
[0:59] Speaker 5: a card-carrying country club member, former number one pick, Kenya Martin,
[1:04] Speaker 5: back here with us. And dressed to impress, the man
[1:10] Speaker 5: known as Cemetery Larry, Dr. Rashad McCance, Ph.D.
[1:14] Speaker 1: Yes, sir. No, we ain't.
[1:21] Speaker 6: He ain't here today. Ain't nobody get their sounds. We
[1:25] Speaker 6: did not pay our sound effects bill.
[1:27] Speaker 1: We did not pay the sound effects bill.
[1:30] Speaker 7: You're going to see it today anyway.
[1:32] Speaker 3: It don't matter.
[1:37] Speaker 1: We got a lot to discuss.
[1:38] Speaker 5: Here's what's cracking at Gil's Arena today. Wimby bounced back
[1:42] Speaker 5: from his first career ejection with another big game to
[1:45] Speaker 5: help the Spurs blow out the Wolves in game five.
[1:48] Speaker 5: Is Minnesota cooked? We will discuss. The Sixers fired Darryl
[1:52] Speaker 5: Morey just days after Embiid said he considered this season
[1:56] Speaker 5: a success. Where does the process go from here? And
[2:00] Speaker 5: the Lakers have some big decisions to make this offseason
[2:03] Speaker 5: as they look to build their roster around Luka. But
[2:06] Speaker 5: should they try to run it back with Austin Reeves
[2:09] Speaker 5: and LeBron? Big three did very well in March, but
[2:12] Speaker 5: March is not April and April is not May. But
[2:15] Speaker 5: before we get into all that, as always, this show
[2:16] Speaker 5: is brought to you by Underdog. Underdog, available in most states,
[2:19] Speaker 5: including Texas, California, and Florida. New customers get $ 50 in

[2:33] Speaker 5: on YouTube, we got audio versions available on Apple, Spotify,
[2:36] Speaker 5: wherever you get your podcasts. So we're going to start it.
[2:39] Speaker 5: Western Conference, only playoff game last night. Wolves and Spurs
[2:43] Speaker 5: back in San Antonio. Tuesday for a pivotal game five
[2:47] Speaker 5: with the winner of that game when a series is
[2:49] Speaker 5: tied 2-2 going on to win the series nearly 82%
[2:52] Speaker 5: of the time. Wimby was back in action after getting
[2:55] Speaker 5: ejected for the first time in his career in game
[2:57] Speaker 5: four for elbowing Nas Reed early in the second quarter
[3:00] Speaker 5: and drawing a flagrant two as a result. League opted
[3:03] Speaker 5: not to find or suspend the defensive player of the year.
[3:06] Speaker 5: The Wolves were riding high after a big game four
[3:08] Speaker 5: win with Ant-Man scoring 16 of his 36 points in
[3:11] Speaker 5: the fourth quarter to help his squad even the series.
[3:15] Speaker 5: So we got a little video for you. Pop pulled
[3:18] Speaker 5: up to the airport Monday to meet the Spurs and
[3:20] Speaker 5: had an exchange with Wimby. Wimby talked about it a
[3:23] Speaker 5: little bit after the game, but didn't get into the specifics,
[3:25] Speaker 5: but just said, Pops, you know, holding them accountable. The
[3:29] Speaker 5: aliens bounced back with another big game to send the
[3:31] Speaker 5: Wolves back down to earth.
[3:33] Speaker 1: Let's take a look at the highlights. If we can, please.
[3:38] Speaker 5: Wimby got to work early and often dropping 18 points
[3:42] Speaker 5: in the first quarter.
[3:43] Speaker 1: Making Rudy Gobert look silly in the process.
[3:48] Speaker 5: Spurs jumped out to a 15-point lead midway through the
[3:51] Speaker 5: first frame. But Wolves responded with Wimby on the bench,
[3:57] Speaker 5: cutting the deficit to just four points after the first quarter.
[4:02] Speaker 1: Kelton Johnson right there doing his thing.
[4:04] Speaker 5: Ant-Man trying to keep his squad in the game. San
[4:10] Speaker 5: Antonio outscored the Wolves 25-17 in the second frame as
[4:15] Speaker 5: Wimby limited Minnesota to just seven points on three of
[4:18] Speaker 5: 11 shooting on shots he contested in the first two
[4:22] Speaker 5: quarters of this game. The French phenom led the Spurs
[4:25] Speaker 5: with game highs of 27 points and 17 boards. Also
[4:28] Speaker 5: had five assists in three blocks in 33 minutes, going
[4:31] Speaker 5: nine for 16 from the field. He's the third youngest
[4:33] Speaker 5: player with 25-plus points, 15-plus rebounds, and five-plus assists in
[4:38] Speaker 5: a playoff game. Kelden Johnson added 21 points off the
[4:42] Speaker 5: bench on 8 of 11 shooting. Darren Fox had 18
[4:45] Speaker 5: and 5 assists. Stephon Castle finished with 17 and 6 dimes,
[4:48] Speaker 5: also on 8 of 11 shooting. So Wolves started third
[4:52] Speaker 5: quarter on a 14-2 run to tie the game. Minnesota
[4:54] Speaker 5: had five players scoring double figures led by Anthony Edwards
[4:57] Speaker 5: who finished with 20 points on 6 of 13 shooting.
[5:00] Speaker 5: Julius Randle added 17 points and 10 boards, but was
[5:02] Speaker 5: just two for 12 from the field through the first
[5:05] Speaker 5: three quarters of this game. While Jada McDaniels also had 17,
[5:07] Speaker 5: but dealt with foul trouble for most of the second half,
[5:10] Speaker 5: opening the door for San Antonio to take over the game.
[5:13] Speaker 5: Spurs into the third frame on a 30-12 run, take
[5:16] Speaker 5: an 18-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Wolves tried
[5:19] Speaker 5: to keep things interesting in that final frame, cutting the
[5:21] Speaker 5: deficit to 11 with a little over eight minutes remaining,
[5:24] Speaker 5: but the Spurs ended the game with a 29-11 run
[5:27] Speaker 5: to get the 29-point blowout win. San Antonio held Minnesota
[5:30] Speaker 5: to 39% from the field, 27% from three, while outscoring
[5:33] Speaker 5: the Wolves 68-36 in points in the paint. San Antonio
[5:37] Speaker 5: has won two straight home playoff games by at least
[5:40] Speaker 5: 29 points for the first time in franchise history. So
[5:43] Speaker 5: after the game, Wimby and Ant-Man offered these thoughts.
[5:46] Speaker 6: How much were you just itching to get back on
[5:47] Speaker 6: the court?
[5:50] Speaker 7: Very, very much.
[5:50] Speaker 3: I mean, I was fresh.
[5:54] Speaker 8: Feeling good, but honestly, it's hard to It was just
[5:58] Speaker 8: game five. Obviously, I'm going to be excited. I'm going
[6:03] Speaker 8: to have butterflies. Excitement is not something abnormal at this
[6:11] Speaker 8: point in the playoffs.
[6:12] Speaker 9: Some of the stuff that Wimby was doing, you don't
[6:15] Speaker 9: really have too much of an answer for it.
[6:19] Speaker 2: Just kind of hope he misses.
[6:22] Speaker 7: He came out high. He made a bunch of shots.
[6:24] Speaker 9: I feel like we adjusted, fought back in the game,
[6:29] Speaker 9: tried to dig ourselves out of the hole. But, I mean,
[6:32] Speaker 9: eventually they created another league and running out in transition.
[6:38] Speaker 7: We got to get back, get matched up.
[6:40] Speaker 9: Just game plan mistakes that we keep making, and it's
[6:43] Speaker 9: too late in the series to make these mistakes.
[6:45] Speaker 10: Something Devin said at shoot-around this morning was that the
[6:48] Speaker 10: Spurs were going to need to upset Vic to come
[6:50] Speaker 10: out tonight to get this win. Mitch called it more
[6:53] Speaker 10: of a mature Vic. I'm just curious if there's either
[6:55] Speaker 10: one of those that you prefer or maybe another word.
[6:59] Speaker 3: They ain't mutually exclusive, so I'm looking for both.
[7:07] Speaker 5: Upset Vic, mature Vic, either way. 27-17, so Skip, we'll
[7:11] Speaker 5: start with you. What statement did Wimby and the Spurs
[7:13] Speaker 5: make with their blowout win in Game 5?
[7:17] Speaker 4: You know, when I step back from this, This should
[7:21] Speaker 4: have been over this series a long time ago. I
[7:24] Speaker 4: thought the Spurs were going to sweep this series, and
[7:27] Speaker 4: they should have swept this series. Because if you look
[7:29] Speaker 4: at it, now we've seen Wimby dominate three times, and
[7:34] Speaker 4: they won by 38 and 29 at home, and they
[7:36] Speaker 4: won by seven at Minnesota. And we've seen him come
[7:41] Speaker 4: up shockingly small in game one, and we saw him
[7:45] Speaker 4: get ejected with 839 left in the second quarter of
[7:48] Speaker 4: game two. And here we are, and they're facing the
[7:52] Speaker 4: danger of having to go seven with this team. And
[7:58] Speaker 4: in the games they lost, they lost by two and five.
[8:04] Speaker 4: And so did he owe his team? Yeah, he owed
[8:07] Speaker 4: his team last night for two games. Because in game one,
[8:12] Speaker 4: he comes out. and decides to play two-guard, and he
[8:15] Speaker 4: goes 5-17 from the floor and 0-8 from three and
[8:19] Speaker 4: establishes zero paint presence in game one. And obviously, Ant-Man
[8:24] Speaker 4: comes back way before anybody thought and inspired his team
[8:27] Speaker 4: coming off the bench, and they steal game one. And
[8:30] Speaker 4: then he owed his team for getting ejected, obviously, in
[8:35] Speaker 4: the previous game. So he comes out, as Josiah points out, 18-7,
[8:39] Speaker 4: sets the early tone, and Yet the emotional leader of
[8:46] Speaker 4: that team, the fire starter off the bench, the igniter
[8:50] Speaker 4: for both the home crowd and the bench and the team,
[8:53] Speaker 4: this guy was once picked 29th overall, not first overall,
[8:58] Speaker 4: and that's Keldon Johnson. And he played big for that.
[9:02] Speaker 4: He was the one last night in the third quarter
[9:04] Speaker 4: who kept saying, no, no, not in our house, no
[9:07] Speaker 4: to Minnesota. And he scores 21 and 22 minutes. And
[9:14] Speaker 4: I know Wimby had an alien play, a little left-handed
[9:18] Speaker 4: fake-up and pass. But the play of the night was,
[9:22] Speaker 4: to me, in that 30-12 third-quarter run by the Spurs,
[9:28] Speaker 4: Kellen Johnson at 6'6, blocked Rudy Gobert at the rim,
[9:33] Speaker 4: face-to-face eye-to-eye. It wasn't a LeBron Memorial ambush chase-down block.
[9:38] Speaker 4: He just went straight up in his face and rejected
[9:41] Speaker 4: Gobert at the rim. And that lifted that crowd and
[9:46] Speaker 4: that team and set them off on the kind of
[9:49] Speaker 4: run they should have had four straight times. So I
[9:52] Speaker 4: look at the overall numbers. Blocks this series so far
[9:55] Speaker 4: through five games. It's San Antonio 41-19. 19 and steals
[10:02] Speaker 4: at San Antonio 48 to 29 so they're dominating and
[10:06] Speaker 4: they're still in danger of a game seven which I
[10:09] Speaker 4: don't know it's like it's all about Wimby great and
[10:12] Speaker 4: not great and yet in the end I just think
[10:16] Speaker 4: Wimby's going to have to say no on Friday night
[10:20] Speaker 4: so that they can have a little bit of time
[10:22] Speaker 4: to get ready for the Thunder, who are sitting home
[10:24] Speaker 4: getting ready for the Spurs.
[10:28] Speaker 1: The Thunder, big chilling.
[10:29] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[10:31] Speaker 5: After defeating the Lakers in the minimum amount of games
[10:33] Speaker 5: possible in their second-round series. But, Mr. B, let's shift
[10:36] Speaker 5: over to you. What statement did Wim be in the
[10:39] Speaker 5: Spurs making their Game 5 win over the Wolves?
[10:43] Speaker 2: Well, I mean, you could see it the first five,
[10:45] Speaker 2: six minutes when we came out 16 points, five boards. Um,
[10:48] Speaker 2: you already knew what time it was for them. Um,
[10:52] Speaker 2: it was definitely a makeup game for him. Like Skip said,
[10:55] Speaker 2: this year should have probably been over. Um, but they
[10:58] Speaker 2: are have to play a game six. Um, they dominated
[11:03] Speaker 2: in a paint for sure. Um, with the wolves, um,
[11:07] Speaker 2: you know, the games that the wolves did when they, they,
[11:10] Speaker 2: they were 52, 50 some points in the paint. Um,
[11:13] Speaker 2: when they're losing, they're only 36 points in the paint.
[11:15] Speaker 2: So they need to get to the paint more. Um,
[11:18] Speaker 2: Julius Randolph hasn't been there at all in this series.
[11:21] Speaker 2: I don't know what the hell is going on. But
[11:24] Speaker 2: he's shooting terrible. He's only averaging 14, and they're not
[11:27] Speaker 2: really getting anything out of him. So that's one of
[11:30] Speaker 2: the reasons why they're in this situation too. And Ant-Man,
[11:35] Speaker 2: he's playing on two bad knees, so he's trying to
[11:36] Speaker 2: do the best he can. But if the Wolves want
[11:38] Speaker 2: to have a chance to win, they have to get
[11:40] Speaker 2: in the paint. Like I said, when they lose, it's
[11:43] Speaker 2: only 38. When they're winning, it's 50-some points in the paint.
[11:46] Speaker 2: So they need to attack more.
[11:49] Speaker 5: Like you mentioned, you were 21 and 10 in that
[11:50] Speaker 5: game one. I had three straight games with 12 points,
[11:53] Speaker 5: had 17 in this one, a lot of those coming
[11:55] Speaker 5: when the game was already decided. But let's shift over
[11:57] Speaker 5: to this side of the couch to the distinguished gentleman, Kenyon.
[12:01] Speaker 1: What statement did.
[12:02] Speaker 5: Winby and the Spurs make with that game five win?
[12:05] Speaker 3: No, they're backs against the wall. For them, it's a
[12:07] Speaker 3: must win. Can't go back to Minnesota down a game,
[12:12] Speaker 3: you know, so they came out and played inspired basketball. Um,
[12:16] Speaker 3: Wimby stated he was fresh, fresh legs up under him.
[12:20] Speaker 3: He needed to come back and have a comeback game.
[12:26] Speaker 3: Coming off of getting ejected. So, no, it was, for me,
[12:29] Speaker 3: it was expected for him to come out that way.
[12:30] Speaker 3: But Minnesota fought. Minnesota fought. Cut the lead a couple
[12:35] Speaker 3: times down. But, no, San Antonio's pressure defensively was just,
[12:41] Speaker 3: it was a lot to deal with. the defense at
[12:43] Speaker 3: home is a lot to deal with. So that defense
[12:45] Speaker 3: can travel. It should travel to Minnesota for game six. Yeah, no, Wimby,
[12:51] Speaker 3: he came out and established that the Spurs go as
[12:55] Speaker 3: he go, right? Come out, set the tone early in
[12:58] Speaker 3: the first quarter. It was a microcosm of what the
[13:02] Speaker 3: game was going to be for him. Yeah, he came
[13:06] Speaker 3: out and set the tone, and the rest of the
[13:08] Speaker 3: guys followed. I like Dylan Harper. I like his game.
[13:15] Speaker 3: He competes, right? I like the young fella, right? Yeah,
[13:20] Speaker 3: so his energy and the way he approaches it, there's
[13:25] Speaker 3: no pressure on him to go out and play well,
[13:27] Speaker 3: so I think that helps him in that regard. But yeah, no,
[13:33] Speaker 3: he is definitely, I think, besides the six-man and Johnson,
[13:37] Speaker 3: I think he is definitely an X-factor for them, and
[13:39] Speaker 3: if he plays well, they have a great chance, right?
[13:43] Speaker 1: So.
[13:44] Speaker 3: I like San Antonio chances going into Minnesota game six.
[13:47] Speaker 5: I think Dylan Harper leading all players in total points
[13:49] Speaker 5: off the bench this postseason, 136.
[13:50] Speaker 3: Yeah, he's playing well, man. But, yeah, I like San
[13:59] Speaker 3: Antonio chances in Minnesota game six.
[14:04] Speaker 6: All right, last but not least, let's move over to Dr.
[14:06] Speaker 1: McCants.
[14:06] Speaker 6: I assumed you came in rocking the Spurs colors.
[14:10] Speaker 5: I did.
[14:12] Speaker 1: For Wamba Wamba.
[14:14] Speaker 5: What statement did Wimby and the Spurs make with that
[14:17] Speaker 5: game 5-1?
[14:19] Speaker 6: One thing you guys got to know about me is
[14:20] Speaker 6: I love this game. Like I really love this game.
[14:26] Speaker 6: And there's a lot of chit-chatter going around. Going around
[14:31] Speaker 6: about San Antonio Spurs and Wimignana and this year going
[14:37] Speaker 6: from 10-1 or let's say 10-2. Um Where do I start?
[14:43] Speaker 6: Start with game one. Start with game one. Everyone said
[14:46] Speaker 6: that was a bad game for Wimby. They had 12 blocks.
[14:50] Speaker 6: Did what he needed to do on the defensive end
[14:52] Speaker 6: after having a really, really shitty night. Him and Castle
[14:57] Speaker 6: had a little chuckle on the bench because they lost
[15:00] Speaker 6: by two points and they knew they had the worst
[15:02] Speaker 6: game they had all season. So, you know, you throw
[15:05] Speaker 6: that away. As a team, you go to practice, you
[15:09] Speaker 6: figure out How to get back on track. What's back
[15:11] Speaker 6: on track?
[15:12] Speaker 2: 39 and 15?
[15:12] Speaker 7: Is that back on track?
[15:15] Speaker 1: Yes.
[15:16] Speaker 6: But that comes after Mr. Skip Bayless said that Wimby
[15:20] Speaker 6: was half of a player.
[15:23] Speaker 4: In game one. After game one.
[15:25] Speaker 7: Interesting. Half of a player comes back.
[15:27] Speaker 4: What did he shoot that night? Five of seven.
[15:30] Speaker 7: Yeah, five of seven.
[15:31] Speaker 4: Did you see him establish any paint presence?
[15:33] Speaker 1: No, no, no.
[15:34] Speaker 6: But half of a player means he still has half
[15:36] Speaker 6: of the game to dominate.
[15:38] Speaker 4: Right?
[15:38] Speaker 1: Right.
[15:39] Speaker 6: And did he break a record that game? I think
[15:42] Speaker 6: he broke a record or something. But the team, you know,
[15:45] Speaker 6: has to show up too. But in game two, I
[15:50] Speaker 6: think he was like more than half of a player
[15:53] Speaker 6: showed up. Not only did he show up, he showed out.
[15:58] Speaker 6: And you look at the Minnesota Timberwolves, you could say
[15:59] Speaker 6: they should deserve to be swept after they put out Mr.
[16:05] Speaker 7: Burping Babies. And Mr.
[16:09] Speaker 6: Burping Babies is now picking up horse shit, trying to
[16:13] Speaker 6: figure out what the smell is coming from. And now
[16:17] Speaker 6: you go into game three and you say, all right,
[16:21] Speaker 6: what's going on here?
[16:22] Speaker 7: What happens in game three? Why do we drop game three?
[16:27] Speaker 6: Well, the wolves are clawing and biting and getting on
[16:33] Speaker 6: my fucking nerves and I got to send a message.
[16:36] Speaker 6: That message should tell you I'm more than half of
[16:39] Speaker 6: a player, more than half of anything. I'm everything this
[16:43] Speaker 6: league needs. So you talk about MVP voting. How do
[16:48] Speaker 6: you vote for MVP when he leads his team to
[16:53] Speaker 6: victory based on the fact that this guy can be
[16:57] Speaker 6: in the game, score 27 and 15, 27 and 15,
[16:58] Speaker 6: and try to figure out why the other team can't score.
[17:07] Speaker 6: 27 and 15 and the other team can't score. Every
[17:10] Speaker 6: time I check in the game, they're terrified. Every time
[17:13] Speaker 6: I go out, they go to the rim. They drive
[17:15] Speaker 6: to the paint. This is different for me. I'm seeing
[17:19] Speaker 6: greatness right in front of our eyes and everybody wants
[17:21] Speaker 6: to try to discredit it. It's kind of great because
[17:25] Speaker 6: we love the challenge. We love the challenge. Victor Wimbayana
[17:30] Speaker 6: did exactly what he had to do and I think
[17:32] Speaker 6: everybody else rallied around him. Dylan Harper, Carter Bryant, Stephon Castle,
[17:39] Speaker 6: De'Aaron Fox, Luke Cornett, everybody showed up to play because
[17:43] Speaker 6: their leader shows passion and resilience. And regardless of what
[17:46] Speaker 6: anybody can think, it takes a lot of fucking cojones
[17:49] Speaker 6: to come into a game five after, I think you said,
[17:55] Speaker 6: they can't shake. Spurs can't shake the T-Wolves. Seemed like
[18:04] Speaker 6: they Harlem shook their ass right off of there. Shook
[18:06] Speaker 6: them right off, right? So to me, if you're watching
[18:11] Speaker 6: the game from a certain lens, you see the team
[18:16] Speaker 6: is playing a certain style of basketball to adapt to
[18:20] Speaker 6: how they're going to play. And once we start playing
[18:23] Speaker 6: our basketball, nobody can touch us.
[18:27] Speaker 4: So you agree with me that Spurs should have swept
[18:30] Speaker 4: the T-wolves, right? No.
[18:31] Speaker 6: The T-Wolves are the T-Wolves' two-time conference finals.
[18:35] Speaker 2: Yes, I agree that they should have swept them.
[18:37] Speaker 3: Thank you.
[18:37] Speaker 7: They definitely are going to fight. They're definitely going to fight.
[18:43] Speaker 1: They kind of swept them because they didn't win game one.
[18:45] Speaker 2: No, but they should have. With the lesser team, yes,
[18:48] Speaker 2: they should have swept them.
[18:50] Speaker 7: Say it again, Josiah. Should have, could have.
[18:52] Speaker 6: Should have, could have, would have. Should have, could have,
[18:54] Speaker 6: would have. But the Wolves are the Wolves, and Ant-Man
[18:56] Speaker 6: is Ant-Man. You're never going to count Ant-Man out and
[18:59] Speaker 6: say he should get swept twice. And we do this,
[19:01] Speaker 6: and this is your first time here. Welcome to the
[19:04] Speaker 6: dinner party.
[19:05] Speaker 4: Yeah, I watched them go down gentlemen swept last year
[19:08] Speaker 4: by the Thunder in the conference.
[19:09] Speaker 1: Finals, right?
[19:10] Speaker 7: It was conference finals, though, wasn't it?
[19:12] Speaker 3: Yeah, two years in a row.
[19:14] Speaker 6: Right, and the year before that, the OKC Thunder got
[19:18] Speaker 6: put out by the Dallas Mavericks, Luka Doncic.
[19:22] Speaker 7: Overweight Luka.
[19:24] Speaker 4: The baby Thunder did.
[19:25] Speaker 1: Word of love.
[19:25] Speaker 4: Two years ago, that's true.
[19:27] Speaker 7: So, I mean, at the end of the day, you know,
[19:31] Speaker 7: His body bags and toe tags.
[19:33] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[19:33] Speaker 7: You know, you haven't been introduced to that yet.
[19:36] Speaker 4: Can you defend your man Victor for game one 0
[19:40] Speaker 4: for 8 from 3? That's what I want to know.
[19:43] Speaker 7: Yeah, I can defend that. 12 blocks. Yeah.
[19:47] Speaker 6: 0 for 8 from 3.
[19:50] Speaker 3: Blocks, man.
[19:54] Speaker 6: At the end of the day, man, Victor Wimbyana is
[20:00] Speaker 6: going to surpass all the expectations that he needs to
[20:04] Speaker 6: be the face of the NBA and the MVP of
[20:05] Speaker 6: this league.
[20:06] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[20:07] Speaker 4: I think you should save your body bag for the
[20:10] Speaker 4: next round for your Spurs.
[20:12] Speaker 6: We did all we needed to do to get to
[20:14] Speaker 6: this part. If the Spurs get to the conference finals,
[20:18] Speaker 6: being Wimby's first time getting there, I mean, there's a
[20:22] Speaker 6: lot of legs in here, Brandon legs in here. Very
[20:26] Speaker 6: ergonomical body bags. A lot of shit in here. Stephen
[20:30] Speaker 6: A's in here. You missed that. But now get to
[20:35] Speaker 6: put Skip in here. I get to put Skip in
[20:37] Speaker 6: the body bag.
[20:38] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[20:39] Speaker 4: When is this?
[20:40] Speaker 7: Shit, what time is it?
[20:45] Speaker 2: I guess when they win it all. I guess they
[20:46] Speaker 2: got to win it all to be in that bag.
[20:47] Speaker 3: No, you just got to keep.
[20:48] Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? You got to win it
[20:49] Speaker 2: all to be in the bag.
[20:50] Speaker 7: Keep building your resume. Keep building the resume of all
[20:53] Speaker 7: the things that don't go your way.
[20:55] Speaker 6: Because game one is game one. Game one is game one.
[21:00] Speaker 6: Going to game six now. Not only do we have
[21:03] Speaker 6: to back it up, but we ain't really seeing a
[21:06] Speaker 6: problem here.
[21:06] Speaker 7: You guys barely beat us. Without our guy.
[21:11] Speaker 1: On the floor.
[21:12] Speaker 2: Well, Minnesota, the game shot won. Just get to the paint.
[21:16] Speaker 2: Just get to the paint.
[21:18] Speaker 6: Or just try to get my guy rattled so he
[21:20] Speaker 6: can knock your ass out and get ejected.
[21:22] Speaker 2: I mean, or that too.
[21:23] Speaker 5: I mean, that's a game plan. We'll no longer succumb
[21:26] Speaker 5: to rage baiting. Him and Io DeSumo had a little situation.
[21:29] Speaker 2: That horse shit, Jokic picked it up. That's a million dollars.
[21:31] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[21:32] Speaker 2: You know, that horse shit.
[21:32] Speaker 7: I land my plane. Y'all can go ahead.
[21:34] Speaker 6: Just wanted to get that off and brought the body
[21:37] Speaker 6: bag for a reason.
[21:40] Speaker 7: They ain't got my sound effects.
[21:41] Speaker 3: You look like a trash bag to me. You don't
[21:43] Speaker 3: look like a body bag.
[21:45] Speaker 1: Ergonomical.
[21:45] Speaker 3: You look like a fucking trash bag. For that trash
[21:49] Speaker 3: ass punch you just made. If you want to make
[21:50] Speaker 3: it a trash bag. Put that punch. I put trash
[21:54] Speaker 3: in here. So whoever's in here.
[21:56] Speaker 7: Whoever's in here is.
[21:59] Speaker 1: Trash.
[22:00] Speaker 6: Whoever's in here is trash. I got a lot of
[22:03] Speaker 6: motherfuckers in here. There's a lot of motherfuckers in here.
[22:05] Speaker 3: Take that shit off the 118. A lot of motherfuckers
[22:07] Speaker 3: in here.
[22:07] Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, let's laugh.
[22:08] Speaker 3: Tickle my fucking.
[22:09] Speaker 1: Stomach, don't it?
[22:16] Speaker 3: The motherfuckers ain't wanting nothing. The motherfuckers ain't wanting nothing.
[22:22] Speaker 6: We know who not celebrating the second round. We know
[22:26] Speaker 6: who not celebrating.
[22:28] Speaker 3: We know who in Cancun. We know who in Cancun.
[22:32] Speaker 1: We know who's still playing.
[22:35] Speaker 3: They in the.
[22:35] Speaker 6: Trash bag doing trash shit with trash men.
[22:38] Speaker 3: That's true.
[22:42] Speaker 4: Are you guaranteeing a game six closeout win for your Spurs?
[22:47] Speaker 4: guaranteed right here, right now.
[22:54] Speaker 3: Say yes or no fucking question.
[22:56] Speaker 1: That was easy. I believe it.
[22:57] Speaker 3: Say yes or no question. So you guaranteeing it? So
[23:03] Speaker 3: what does that mean?
[23:07] Speaker 4: And I always find something wrong.
[23:10] Speaker 3: What does that mean?
[23:11] Speaker 4: I think it's a little bit of shifty, like I
[23:13] Speaker 4: don't want to answer the question.
[23:15] Speaker 7: Oh, no, man.
[23:16] Speaker 6: Because at the end of the day, everybody's going to
[23:18] Speaker 6: change their tone whether they.
[23:20] Speaker 1: Win or lose.
[23:21] Speaker 3: Everybody moves the goalpost every single time, right? I just
[23:24] Speaker 3: said I like their chances in game six.
[23:26] Speaker 6: You can go over here and say this and then
[23:27] Speaker 6: come here and be like, Yeah, my point.
[23:29] Speaker 3: I said I like their chances in game six. That's
[23:31] Speaker 3: what I said.
[23:31] Speaker 2: He didn't say that.
[23:32] Speaker 3: I thought you said that. Yeah, I said that I
[23:34] Speaker 3: like their chance in game six.
[23:35] Speaker 6: Yeah, Wimby had to go the other way so he
[23:38] Speaker 6: could save his energy for the perfect baby.
[23:39] Speaker 3: Yeah, he's in game two, and I said I like
[23:41] Speaker 3: their chance.
[23:41] Speaker 1: And he didn't.
[23:42] Speaker 3: That dude not here. But make like I said.
[23:44] Speaker 1: We here.
[23:44] Speaker 3: Like I told you before. These dudes ain't here. Keep
[23:46] Speaker 3: making your trash points without using me. We still moving.
[23:50] Speaker 2: Wait, are we here today, though? But today.
[23:53] Speaker 3: We are here.
[23:53] Speaker 2: We're talking about today, right?
[23:55] Speaker 3: What's the series?
[23:56] Speaker 2: Right, so today he said that he has. The Spurs
[23:59] Speaker 2: winning the game six.
[24:00] Speaker 3: 3-2 is the series, right? I like their chance.
[24:03] Speaker 7: 3-2 is the series, right?
[24:04] Speaker 3: You want to keep trying to use to make a
[24:05] Speaker 3: trash-ass point. 3-2 is the, right?
[24:08] Speaker 6: Right.
[24:08] Speaker 3: Yep. 3-2 is the series?
[24:09] Speaker 6: Yes. What that mean? You guys have a chance to
[24:12] Speaker 6: close them out. There is a game six in Minnesota.
[24:15] Speaker 6: What it means is they got a game six.
[24:16] Speaker 1: That's what it means.
[24:16] Speaker 7: You guys have a game six, and you guys have
[24:17] Speaker 7: a chance to close them out. Does that mean we
[24:18] Speaker 7: have more games than them?
[24:20] Speaker 3: More games than who?
[24:21] Speaker 2: You guys are up 3-2, yes. The Spurs are currently
[24:23] Speaker 2: in front in this series.
[24:24] Speaker 3: That's all I want to know.
[24:26] Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
[24:27] Speaker 1: But are they winning?
[24:28] Speaker 3: Is the series over? Series is going to be ours.
[24:31] Speaker 3: Going to be, but is it over? It's going to
[24:34] Speaker 3: be ours.
[24:34] Speaker 4: In seven.
[24:36] Speaker 1: In whatever. In whatever.
[24:39] Speaker 3: So, Skip, you still haven't answered your question.
[24:41] Speaker 4: I didn't hear an answer.
[24:43] Speaker 1: The guarantee of a game.
[24:44] Speaker 6: He pushed the that was easy button in addition to
[24:47] Speaker 6: the cash.
[24:47] Speaker 7: Thank you for the obvious.
[24:49] Speaker 1: For the hearing impaired.
[24:51] Speaker 6: Thank you for the fucking obvious point, man.
[24:54] Speaker 1: For the hearing impaired.
[24:55] Speaker 3: Well, people that got closed captions on their TV, they
[24:57] Speaker 3: need the words to come out his mouth.
[24:59] Speaker 4: Right?
[25:00] Speaker 6: Can y'all read my lips?
[25:04] Speaker 3: No, they need the captions on the screen.
[25:05] Speaker 1: That was easy.
[25:07] Speaker 6: No, they need the captions on the screen. But last week,
[25:10] Speaker 6: we talked. You guys both thought Spurs would roll through.
[25:13] Speaker 1: Yeah. Thought the series would be over.
[25:15] Speaker 4: But I didn't know he was going to get ejected
[25:17] Speaker 4: with 839 left.
[25:17] Speaker 1: In the second quarter.
[25:18] Speaker 5: That's another point with Wimby. They're treating this like a
[25:20] Speaker 5: revenge game. The Wolves have been physical, but that elbow
[25:25] Speaker 5: and that flag are too uncalled for.
[25:27] Speaker 1: Whatever.
[25:28] Speaker 3: I don't think it was uncalled for.
[25:31] Speaker 2: I don't think it was uncalled for.
[25:34] Speaker 1: But if you have the potential to wrap this series up.
[25:36] Speaker 3: I don't think it was uncalled for. Potential to wrap
[25:39] Speaker 3: it up or not. the man reached his boiling point, right?
[25:45] Speaker 3: If they not going to protect me, I'm going to
[25:47] Speaker 3: protect myself. So that's just what.
[25:50] Speaker 7: It is, man.
[25:51] Speaker 3: Like, if he learned how to swing them, move them
[25:54] Speaker 3: without swinging them, it would have been a much better.
[25:56] Speaker 1: Place, right?
[25:57] Speaker 4: Did you ever do anything like that?
[26:00] Speaker 3: Like elbow someone like that?
[26:01] Speaker 2: No.
[26:01] Speaker 4: Like in frustration?
[26:02] Speaker 3: No, I didn't want to upside somebody's head.
[26:05] Speaker 4: You have.
[26:07] Speaker 7: Absolutely.
[26:08] Speaker 1: Very well documented.
[26:08] Speaker 3: But to do that, no, I ain't. No, I ain't
[26:12] Speaker 3: going to elbow you in the back of the head.
[26:13] Speaker 3: I'd rather punch you in your face.
[26:14] Speaker 4: Okay, but that's the kind of statement that the kid
[26:18] Speaker 4: had to make for the long haul, right?
[26:20] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
[26:21] Speaker 4: And I like the message sent.
[26:22] Speaker 3: I do too, right? I'm not going to keep putting
[26:24] Speaker 3: up with it, right? And the refs are, they, it
[26:28] Speaker 3: was a lead up to it. Like I said, it
[26:28] Speaker 3: was a boiling point, right? It was a boiling point.
[26:31] Speaker 3: Game after game, just doing little things, doing little things,
[26:34] Speaker 3: and the ref not calling, ref not calling. And they
[26:36] Speaker 3: didn't blow the whistle just on that play when he
[26:38] Speaker 3: was getting fouled. So, and it was obvious he was
[26:41] Speaker 3: getting his arm grabbed and they still didn't blow the whistle. So,
[26:44] Speaker 3: he took matters into his own hands, right? I'm all
[26:46] Speaker 3: for it, man.
[26:47] Speaker 5: Is that playoff basketball, there's a certain level of increased
[26:50] Speaker 5: physicality you should expect in the postseason?
[26:52] Speaker 3: Physicality is.
[26:53] Speaker 1: For a dude in his third year.
[26:54] Speaker 3: But like I said, I guarantee, so I was playing
[26:56] Speaker 3: with somebody yesterday, right? On the scouting report, all other
[26:58] Speaker 3: letters are in black. I'm pretty sure be physical with
[27:02] Speaker 3: him is in red, right? That's just what, that's the
[27:05] Speaker 3: way I would approach him. Because he's very good. He's skilled.
[27:09] Speaker 3: He's 7'5. There's nothing that we can do with him
[27:12] Speaker 3: in that regard. So what can we do in order
[27:16] Speaker 3: to try to even the playing field? Let's be extra
[27:20] Speaker 3: physical with him. The playoffs are physical, right? We got
[27:24] Speaker 3: to go out our way to do this. He had
[27:27] Speaker 3: 12 blocks in the game. So listen. we got to
[27:30] Speaker 3: get this motherfucker off the floor. So we got to
[27:31] Speaker 3: do something.
[27:32] Speaker 1: And that's true. I mean, it worked again before.
[27:34] Speaker 3: But no, but, and to his defense though, like, yeah, like, yeah,
[27:38] Speaker 3: the playoffs are physical. Yes. But if they're not blowing
[27:41] Speaker 3: the whistle on certain plays that that's, The grabbing of
[27:45] Speaker 3: the jersey, running back, Anthony Ellis grabbed the jersey. They
[27:47] Speaker 3: didn't blow the whistle on that, right? Call a foul, right?
[27:50] Speaker 3: Another situation where you get pushed. Call a foul. If
[27:52] Speaker 3: they're blowing the whistle and those fouls, his frustration level
[27:55] Speaker 3: is not going to reach to the point that it
[27:57] Speaker 3: did because he's getting rewarded for them doing the bullshit.
[28:01] Speaker 3: But he wasn't getting rewarded for the bullshit, so I
[28:04] Speaker 3: am going to handle this myself, which the rest of
[28:07] Speaker 3: the league saw it. Everybody saw it. He got a
[28:11] Speaker 3: mean streak, right? All that kumbaya and the monks and
[28:16] Speaker 3: the very thoughtful young man that he is. Yeah, I'm
[28:20] Speaker 3: saying that was on the forefront, right? That was on
[28:23] Speaker 3: the forefront. But there's another side to that coin, and
[28:27] Speaker 3: he had to display it, unfortunately. And Oz Reed was, hey.
[28:33] Speaker 4: Although when Victor did it, it looked like he was, Wait,
[28:36] Speaker 4: did I do that? Like, I had that in me?
[28:39] Speaker 4: Goes over and sits on the bench.
[28:40] Speaker 1: Wait.
[28:41] Speaker 7: Come on, son.
[28:41] Speaker 4: Wait, I'm ejected?
[28:43] Speaker 3: Like, that boy didn't know what happened.
[28:44] Speaker 5: He's intelligent. I feel like he knows. Even though Flagler
[28:47] Speaker 5: has never been called on him, he's been in game
[28:49] Speaker 5: for Flagler if I haven't been called. Yeah, Flagler's behind.
[28:51] Speaker 5: But the ejection part, like, that's why he has it. Like,
[28:54] Speaker 5: if you ain't never.
[28:54] Speaker 2: Been in it.
[28:55] Speaker 4: But he had no history of cold cocking somebody.
[28:57] Speaker 1: He's friends.
[28:57] Speaker 3: You slow it down.
[28:58] Speaker 6: He literally looked at him before he did it like, okay,
[29:02] Speaker 6: I've had a fucking enough.
[29:03] Speaker 4: That is true.
[29:04] Speaker 6: I've just been training with the Shaolin monks. I know
[29:07] Speaker 6: what to do in this situation. I'm going to do
[29:10] Speaker 6: what I need to do. But the problem is, why
[29:13] Speaker 6: does he need to do it? The other guy, SGA,
[29:16] Speaker 6: has never had to do anything like this because he
[29:20] Speaker 6: gets the whistle. The whistle to the point where you
[29:23] Speaker 6: can't even breathe on him. So you're talking about pushing
[29:27] Speaker 6: somebody down, clawing, scratching, all of the things that he
[29:30] Speaker 6: has to deal with based on this being his first time.
[29:34] Speaker 6: In comparison, he handled it the way a man's supposed
[29:37] Speaker 6: to handle it. I'm going to show you. and I'm
[29:39] Speaker 6: going to show the rest of y'all. All right, keep
[29:42] Speaker 6: fucking with me. It's going to be different.
[29:44] Speaker 4: SGA did not get the whistle in four games against
[29:47] Speaker 4: the Lakers. His free throws were way down all four times.
[29:50] Speaker 3: The team, so I'm glad that y'all brought it up.
[29:52] Speaker 1: Great defense.
[29:52] Speaker 3: The team is last.
[29:53] Speaker 2: They shoot 18 free throws a game in the playoffs.
[29:58] Speaker 1: The last. The what?
[30:00] Speaker 3: The Thunder are shooting 18 free throws a game.
[30:08] Speaker 2: Yeah so they're not I mean but if SGA gets
[30:10] Speaker 2: the whistle he earned that yeah but it is I've
[30:13] Speaker 2: been here before like that's what I do.
[30:15] Speaker 3: Yeah it is but listen if they ain't gonna blow
[30:17] Speaker 3: the whistle then you gotta do it like we was
[30:19] Speaker 3: talking on the couch the other day I used to
[30:21] Speaker 3: listen either you get him under control or I'm gonna
[30:23] Speaker 3: do it tell the ref right he didn't have to
[30:27] Speaker 3: he didn't tell the ref those words but no Yeah,
[30:32] Speaker 3: he'll learn to start expressing during the game to the
[30:37] Speaker 3: refs what to look out for and things that they're doing.
[30:40] Speaker 3: Because if you don't, then you know what's going to
[30:41] Speaker 3: happen next. That's all. That's what I used to tell him.
[30:44] Speaker 1: Hey, man.
[30:44] Speaker 3: I used to tell him what to look out for, right? Hey, man,
[30:48] Speaker 3: he don't bullshit. He do it again. What he do? Hey,
[30:52] Speaker 3: he shoot me another one while he boxing me out.
[30:55] Speaker 3: I'm telling you what's going to happen next. So you
[30:57] Speaker 3: need to watch it. While we're on the free throw line,
[31:00] Speaker 3: everything didn't stop, right? So you're standing, we're on the
[31:03] Speaker 3: free throw line, standing right next to each other, and
[31:05] Speaker 3: I'm talking about you. So the ref knows. You hear
[31:07] Speaker 3: me telling. You do it again, I'm going to get
[31:11] Speaker 3: it under control, man. I don't want to have to,
[31:13] Speaker 3: because you know what it's going to be. He'll get
[31:16] Speaker 3: to that point where he'll start expressing that and having
[31:19] Speaker 3: that dialogue with the refs. He's only in year three.
[31:22] Speaker 4: And that's what Coach Popovich told him at the airport
[31:25] Speaker 4: when he pulled up on him.
[31:28] Speaker 3: Yeah, you're too important.
[31:29] Speaker 1: You're too important to your team. Got you.
[31:31] Speaker 3: Like, you're too important to this team. Like, to put just...
[31:35] Speaker 3: He didn't... Like I said, he took it for himself.
[31:37] Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure Pop ain't got no problem with that,
[31:38] Speaker 3: but it's just the detriment of what it was getting
[31:42] Speaker 3: the flagrant to, right? So... And the reason he didn't...
[31:44] Speaker 3: Everybody was raving and hearing people talking about he should
[31:47] Speaker 3: have got suspended. He doesn't have a track record, man.
[31:50] Speaker 3: It's his first incident. He has a clean slate with
[31:52] Speaker 3: the league. Other people... that's been suspended for situations, their
[31:57] Speaker 3: slate is tarnished with the league.
[31:59] Speaker 6: Let me ask you, so why was it so strong,
[32:02] Speaker 6: that opinion, for them to push for him to be
[32:05] Speaker 6: suspended when they haven't pushed for other guys who've done
[32:08] Speaker 6: similar things? It was kind of weird to me that
[32:10] Speaker 6: players that understand what he was doing and why he
[32:14] Speaker 6: was doing it would push for a suspension, would push for, man,
[32:18] Speaker 6: he should be suspended, he should be this, he should
[32:20] Speaker 6: be that. It's like you know exactly why he did it.
[32:23] Speaker 3: Yeah, they picked the other team.
[32:26] Speaker 7: It's weird.
[32:26] Speaker 1: That's just to me.
[32:27] Speaker 3: They want another team to win. Especially players. That's what
[32:29] Speaker 3: I got from it.
[32:29] Speaker 6: Especially players. When you know, and if you a big man,
[32:32] Speaker 6: there was a big man.
[32:33] Speaker 1: A player.
[32:34] Speaker 3: I saw a few people, but it definitely was like, yeah.
[32:36] Speaker 6: Like, national TV, millions and millions of people talking about
[32:40] Speaker 6: he deserves to be suspended. When you were big and
[32:43] Speaker 6: you were taught just what you was playing yesterday, get
[32:46] Speaker 6: your elbows up. These little guards want to come in
[32:48] Speaker 6: here and reach. Do what Shaq did. Put some stitches
[32:51] Speaker 6: in his fucking forehead. He ain't going to come back
[32:53] Speaker 6: down here reaching and clawing and scrapping.
[32:56] Speaker 3: You won't.
[32:57] Speaker 6: But now you want to call for a suspension in
[33:01] Speaker 6: a series where... I think what Shea did to Austin Reeves,
[33:07] Speaker 6: I think that was worse than what Wimby did to
[33:10] Speaker 6: Nas Reed. He put his arm in there and he turned.
[33:13] Speaker 6: He was coming off the screen. He snapped, strapped his
[33:17] Speaker 6: arm and turned the other way. I've done it to people.
[33:21] Speaker 6: You keep holding me, watch what I do to you.
[33:24] Speaker 6: Put your arm here and I'm going to turn the
[33:25] Speaker 6: other way and you're going to pop your goddamn elbow.
[33:29] Speaker 6: I think that was, if you really think about it,
[33:31] Speaker 6: that was a worse situation that could have ended Austin
[33:34] Speaker 6: Reed's fucking season right then.
[33:35] Speaker 7: For sure.
[33:35] Speaker 3: It's a situation that you're in during the game.
[33:38] Speaker 4: But Marcus Smart had been playing football for four games.
[33:41] Speaker 1: Absolutely.
[33:42] Speaker 3: Somebody got to get it.
[33:44] Speaker 7: The same football Lou Dort plays.
[33:46] Speaker 3: See, but I'm going to do it to him though.
[33:47] Speaker 6: The same football Lou Dort plays, right?
[33:49] Speaker 1: He does.
[33:50] Speaker 3: Right.
[33:50] Speaker 4: But not, listen, Marcus Smart was just like a tear
[33:53] Speaker 4: all over SGA, and he did a great job on him,
[33:55] Speaker 4: but it was extreme physicality.
[33:58] Speaker 7: It was nothing dirty, though, right?
[34:00] Speaker 6: A little dirt, doing some dirty-ass shit out there on
[34:02] Speaker 6: the floor.
[34:04] Speaker 1: He does.
[34:04] Speaker 6: And he gets under people's skin, just like he's out
[34:07] Speaker 6: there contracted to do.
[34:09] Speaker 7: Marcus Smart is the same guy.
[34:11] Speaker 3: The same thing that we love about and teams love
[34:13] Speaker 3: about Marcus Smart is the same shit that half-coaches over
[34:16] Speaker 3: their life. Yeah, for sure.
[34:18] Speaker 7: For sure.
[34:20] Speaker 3: The same shit you love about him to bring to
[34:22] Speaker 3: the table at times is just like, dude.
[34:24] Speaker 1: Again.
[34:25] Speaker 3: Relax. Chill. Like, okay, they just called this one. I'm
[34:29] Speaker 3: watching the game the other day. I'm like, listen, they
[34:31] Speaker 3: about to blow the whistle, dog. I'm like, listen, dude,
[34:34] Speaker 3: this is too much. We understand what you're trying to do, right?
[34:38] Speaker 3: We get it. You're trying to deny this man up
[34:40] Speaker 3: the floor. And when he make a move, you can't
[34:42] Speaker 3: hold it. They about to blow the whistle, but they
[34:43] Speaker 3: blow the whistle. And Dagnall was smart, right? He waited
[34:48] Speaker 3: until the Lakers had 14 fouls, then put Shea back
[34:52] Speaker 3: in the game. And as soon as he did it,
[34:55] Speaker 3: Shea went to the line and shot his two. I'm like,
[34:57] Speaker 3: that was some fucking smart coaching, right? To use that
[35:00] Speaker 3: kind of aggression and things against somebody. I think that
[35:03] Speaker 3: shit was dope.
[35:04] Speaker 4: So that move on Austin Reeves was Shea's whimby kind
[35:08] Speaker 4: of statement.
[35:09] Speaker 1: It was.
[35:09] Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely.
[35:11] Speaker 4: And yet it was way more subtle and it was
[35:13] Speaker 4: way more dangerous.
[35:14] Speaker 1: Absolutely. Okay.
[35:15] Speaker 3: Absolutely. Yeah, because he could have snapped his L. He
[35:17] Speaker 3: could have snapped his L.
[35:18] Speaker 1: Absolutely.
[35:19] Speaker 3: Yeah, because I didn't. It's shit, man.
[35:22] Speaker 1: Listen.
[35:23] Speaker 3: Be trying to do shit, man. You got to grab
[35:27] Speaker 3: that man's arm and turn.
[35:29] Speaker 1: Fuck. Let's shift back to game five.
[35:32] Speaker 5: Obviously, you know, when we dealt with all that, I
[35:33] Speaker 5: think learned his lesson, came back, said he was ready
[35:37] Speaker 5: to more or less atone for his mistakes in game five.
[35:40] Speaker 5: We praised Gobert earlier in this playoff, earlier in the
[35:42] Speaker 5: series for his defensive effort. But game five, I think
[35:46] Speaker 5: he was made a mockery of. It was hard to watch.
[35:50] Speaker 5: Frenchman on Frenchman. So when we first unanimous defensive player
[35:53] Speaker 5: of the year this season, dominated Gobert, who was a
[35:57] Speaker 5: four-time defensive.
[35:58] Speaker 1: Player of the year award-winning. and fellow countrymen.
[36:01] Speaker 5: Does it feel like Wimby's playing Gobert off the floor
[36:05] Speaker 5: at this point?
[36:06] Speaker 6: I think that, you know, there was some people who
[36:08] Speaker 6: said that training with Hakeem Olajuwon was a waste of money.
[36:12] Speaker 6: I think that that money has been, you know, well
[36:15] Speaker 6: spent at this point. He's been using a lot of
[36:18] Speaker 6: Hakeem's tactics and positional setups to get his space in
[36:24] Speaker 6: alongside with some Jamal Crawford shit. getting in there and
[36:27] Speaker 6: handle the ball, getting to his spin backs, getting to
[36:29] Speaker 6: his bumps, being able to finish contact. I think that's
[36:34] Speaker 6: the biggest thing with a guy like Rudy Gobert. He's
[36:37] Speaker 6: always going to contest. He don't care about getting dunked
[36:39] Speaker 6: on or none of that. And you look at that
[36:42] Speaker 6: competition that Wimby is really adapting to. He's like, I
[36:45] Speaker 6: want this challenge, especially if that's what Rudy lives and
[36:50] Speaker 6: dies on is that defensive four player of the year's
[36:55] Speaker 6: that he can hold over Wimby and say, look, you're
[36:57] Speaker 6: not just going to come in here and do this
[36:59] Speaker 6: to me. And so I like that Wimby has taken
[37:01] Speaker 6: his training. He's applied it, especially with the patience and
[37:05] Speaker 6: the calmness to be able to, you know, go inside
[37:08] Speaker 6: and out, be able to use off the dribble when
[37:10] Speaker 6: he can. I think once that this goes back to
[37:13] Speaker 6: what Ken and Gilbert continued to harp about with Wimby,
[37:18] Speaker 6: which is getting the post turn face shoot when he
[37:22] Speaker 6: needs to. And I'm thinking, more of the Carmelo Anthony
[37:25] Speaker 6: turn face jab shot. You can't stop that if that's
[37:28] Speaker 6: Wimby and that's a closer shot than a three pointer. Um,
[37:31] Speaker 6: I'm not talking about a jump hook. I'm not talking
[37:33] Speaker 6: about getting that close. I'm just talking about just creating
[37:35] Speaker 6: that space for the double come turn shoot. And this
[37:38] Speaker 6: is over a Rudy Gobert or Nas Reed. So I
[37:41] Speaker 6: think that once he gets that, that's going to be
[37:44] Speaker 6: more dangerous than just trying to get to the paint
[37:46] Speaker 6: and score easy, easy tools.
[37:48] Speaker 7: It's going to expand his game a lot more.
[37:51] Speaker 6: And, uh, Rudy Gobert is going to continue to try
[37:54] Speaker 6: to do what he needs to do, but I think
[37:56] Speaker 6: that matchup is over when he was 16 years old.
[37:58] Speaker 6: He already surpassed who this dude in front of me is.
[38:02] Speaker 7: You was my idol. I love you, but I got
[38:04] Speaker 7: to kill you.
[38:07] Speaker 5: Mr. B, let's shift over to you as quickly. Does
[38:09] Speaker 5: it start to feel like Wimby's.
[38:12] Speaker 2: Playing Gobert off that floor? Yeah, I mean, he basically
[38:14] Speaker 2: just said it. He's been playing against this dude since
[38:17] Speaker 2: 16 years old, so this is nothing new to him. Obviously,
[38:21] Speaker 2: he has the upper hand. just by the way he
[38:24] Speaker 2: plays and things like that. So, I mean, this is
[38:26] Speaker 2: not playing against Jokic. You know, he had more success
[38:30] Speaker 2: playing against Jokic, but this one is a little different
[38:33] Speaker 2: because Wimby can actually, you know, he's faster. He can
[38:36] Speaker 2: get downhill. He can do a lot, too. I'm not
[38:40] Speaker 2: saying that Jokic can't, but it's just different. And this
[38:42] Speaker 2: is like a rivalry for him. So this is definitely
[38:45] Speaker 2: way more personal to me. And it feels like he's
[38:48] Speaker 2: taking it personally.
[38:49] Speaker 1: Every time he sees. Yeah.
[38:51] Speaker 3: I mean, it's just, it's just the battle for the,
[38:53] Speaker 3: who's the best big in the league thing.
[38:55] Speaker 4: Right.
[38:56] Speaker 3: And he is putting his name in that hat. Um,
[38:59] Speaker 3: we know what, what Joel's situation is, but he is
[39:04] Speaker 3: fighting to have his name mentioned with, I'm saying that's
[39:07] Speaker 3: the best big in the league. And like you said,
[39:10] Speaker 3: Rudy has four defensive player of the year's awards. He's
[39:13] Speaker 3: aiming for that. Um, he will surpass that.
[39:15] Speaker 7: I'm sure.
[39:17] Speaker 3: Um, Yeah, but no, watching Wimby play, and I just
[39:25] Speaker 3: see things like, man, this is going to become so easy.
[39:28] Speaker 3: Like once he really starts, once it slows down. Because
[39:32] Speaker 3: this situation that I saw with the way guys try
[39:34] Speaker 3: to be physical with him, there's spin lob opportunities, man,
[39:37] Speaker 3: that I see. And I'm like, and I'm yelling at
[39:40] Speaker 3: the TV yesterday, spin lob, spin lob. And I'm like, oh,
[39:42] Speaker 3: he don't have that in his shit.
[39:43] Speaker 7: You don't think it's the point guard, though?
[39:45] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[39:46] Speaker 7: You don't think that's a point guard thing that the
[39:47] Speaker 7: point guard need to know.
[39:49] Speaker 3: But they got to tell him. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
[39:52] Speaker 7: You think he would do it, though?
[39:53] Speaker 1: Hell yeah.
[39:53] Speaker 7: I think he would do it.
[39:54] Speaker 3: Because as physical as guys try to be with it.
[39:55] Speaker 7: Just turn and go.
[39:57] Speaker 3: You have to use that to your advantage, right? Because
[39:59] Speaker 3: as soon as you duck in, they are going to
[40:01] Speaker 3: try to, because you're so tall and long, they're going
[40:03] Speaker 3: to try to meet. And they're pushing him off his spot.
[40:06] Speaker 3: That's perfect.
[40:07] Speaker 1: Right?
[40:07] Speaker 3: It was set up so many times yesterday for him
[40:10] Speaker 3: to just spit. Because as soon as you throw it
[40:12] Speaker 3: up there, who is going to get to it? Damn,
[40:14] Speaker 3: they not telling him that because it's wide open. They
[40:16] Speaker 3: don't know it. It's wide open, man. Damn.
[40:18] Speaker 6: And there's no– like, I don't expect De'Aaron Fox to
[40:21] Speaker 6: know that because he didn't have a spin line threat.
[40:23] Speaker 7: No, no. So he– Sabonis wasn't doing none of that shit.
[40:25] Speaker 3: And I see it, man. It's wide open. And once
[40:28] Speaker 3: he get like little things like that, man, to keep
[40:30] Speaker 3: people honest. Yeah. You know, it's scary hours for the NBA, man.
[40:36] Speaker 3: Because the defensive thing is– it is what it is
[40:39] Speaker 3: on that side of the ball. He is going to
[40:40] Speaker 3: dominate it. He is a, like, you have to account
[40:44] Speaker 3: for him every possession that he's on the floor defensively, right?
[40:47] Speaker 3: If he's out there defending, you have to account for him. Offensively,
[40:52] Speaker 3: when it starts slowing down and him talking things through
[40:54] Speaker 3: with the point guard, things he see at times, like,
[40:57] Speaker 3: it's scary, man. And Rudy Gobert, to his defense, it's...
[41:03] Speaker 3: That's a lot to ask him. That's a lot to ask, man.
[41:07] Speaker 3: Shoot it the way he do. He's taller than you,
[41:09] Speaker 3: arms are longer than yours. Younger than you, it's a
[41:12] Speaker 3: lot to deal with, man. But he's giving the old
[41:15] Speaker 3: college try. But it's a lot to deal with.
[41:20] Speaker 4: So to me, Chris Finch has to start Nas Reed
[41:24] Speaker 4: Friday night just to shake it up. Look, we know.
[41:31] Speaker 3: You got a fragile guy now, though.
[41:33] Speaker 4: And Gobert.
[41:34] Speaker 3: You got a fragile guy now. That's my point.
[41:35] Speaker 4: Thank you.
[41:35] Speaker 1: Okay. Sorry.
[41:36] Speaker 4: That's the point. Nas Reed is not a fragile guy.
[41:40] Speaker 4: I like his toughness. I like his physicality. It's a
[41:44] Speaker 4: weird combination because he can really stroke the three. He
[41:47] Speaker 4: made three more last night. He's dangerous from three, and
[41:52] Speaker 4: yet he's seven feet tall, and he's physical. And I just.
[41:59] Speaker 4: His mental toughness is way beyond Gobert's to me. He
[42:02] Speaker 4: is fragile. And maybe you lose Gobert if you don't
[42:05] Speaker 4: start him. And maybe that's okay for one night, one desperation,
[42:11] Speaker 4: last stand at home. Because they just look better with
[42:15] Speaker 4: Nas Reed on the floor to me. They look physically tougher.
[42:21] Speaker 4: They look mentally tougher. And I think they all look
[42:24] Speaker 4: at Rudy like, come on, man. You know, come on, man.
[42:27] Speaker 4: It's like... But Keldon Johnson just made him eat it
[42:33] Speaker 4: at the rim. If I'm on the T-Wolves, I'm running
[42:37] Speaker 4: up the court thinking, God, come on, man. That's our guy?
[42:41] Speaker 4: They got alien, we got that?
[42:44] Speaker 2: Really?
[42:45] Speaker 4: Okay, so to me, you just need one last desperation plunge.
[42:50] Speaker 4: That's what I would do, just to try to shake
[42:52] Speaker 4: it up the way Steve Kerr once shook it up,
[42:55] Speaker 4: throwing Iggy into the lineup in Game 4 at Cleveland
[42:58] Speaker 4: against LeBron. You know, just something to change the vibe
[43:02] Speaker 4: of it, change the feel of it, because when you
[43:07] Speaker 4: match Gobert head-to-head with Wimby, it's a mismatch.
[43:10] Speaker 1: It just is.
[43:11] Speaker 4: From end to end, it just goes mismatch.
[43:14] Speaker 1: And yet.
[43:15] Speaker 4: Julius has been guarding Wimby for the most part, so
[43:19] Speaker 4: that's not going to change. It's not like, oh, we're
[43:22] Speaker 4: going to leave Wimby wide open. No, you're not. You'll
[43:25] Speaker 4: just do what you've been doing, and it's going to
[43:29] Speaker 4: be make or miss. It's going to be like Ant-Man said,
[43:33] Speaker 4: we just hope he misses. Well, that's okay.
[43:35] Speaker 3: Who's the other big dad?
[43:36] Speaker 1: We know we're hoping for him.
[43:40] Speaker 3: Who was the other? T-Wolves? Who was the other big?
[43:43] Speaker 3: They didn't play. I didn't see nobody.
[43:45] Speaker 1: That's what I was about.
[43:47] Speaker 6: To make that assessment, too, because you say you want
[43:50] Speaker 6: to change it up, right? But the difference is Rudy
[43:55] Speaker 6: Gobert is there for rotation's sake because he plays the bottom.
[44:00] Speaker 6: And when you play the bottom guy, you're always.
[44:03] Speaker 3: There for the rim protection.
[44:04] Speaker 1: Sure.
[44:05] Speaker 4: No, I got that.
[44:06] Speaker 6: And so when you talk about Wimby, matched up with
[44:09] Speaker 6: Nas Reed, you're thinking about it from an offensive standpoint.
[44:13] Speaker 3: Well, he can.
[44:14] Speaker 6: Stretch the floor, he can shoot three, but you cannot
[44:17] Speaker 6: guard Wimby on this other end. You can be physical
[44:20] Speaker 6: with him, granted, but when it's time to get into
[44:24] Speaker 6: the rotations, we now taking a guy who's not a
[44:27] Speaker 6: shot blocker, not a rim protector, out into the rotations. Now,
[44:32] Speaker 6: as a Spurs coach, what I would do is put
[44:35] Speaker 6: Nas Reed in the rotations and so that he's now
[44:38] Speaker 6: moving around on the perimeter like a guard. Rudy Gobert
[44:41] Speaker 6: is always in drop. He's always thinking, I have to
[44:45] Speaker 6: protect the rim. So when you mix it up, I
[44:49] Speaker 6: don't disagree with you, but I would say don't start him.
[44:52] Speaker 7: Just get him out early. Get him out of there early.
[44:55] Speaker 6: Maybe the first four minutes, see what he does against
[44:58] Speaker 6: Wimby in the first three, four minutes. Make the substitution pattern.
[45:03] Speaker 6: But then again, you look at the first four minutes
[45:05] Speaker 6: of the last three games, Wimby does what he does
[45:07] Speaker 6: in a short amount of time.
[45:09] Speaker 1: He does.
[45:09] Speaker 7: He wants to punch you in the face and let
[45:11] Speaker 7: you know I'm here to play.
[45:12] Speaker 4: All I know is after game two, Chris Finch sat
[45:15] Speaker 4: up there. They lost by 38. And he said, we
[45:18] Speaker 4: got punked. And that was with Gobert on the floor
[45:21] Speaker 4: a large part of the game, right? Okay. You got punked?
[45:25] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[45:26] Speaker 4: And you've got a four-time defensive player of the year
[45:28] Speaker 4: on the floor and you got punked?
[45:30] Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. Okay.
[45:32] Speaker 6: Then.
[45:33] Speaker 4: then something needs to change.
[45:35] Speaker 2: He needs to have that same fight that he had
[45:36] Speaker 2: against Jokic.
[45:39] Speaker 1: Is it him?
[45:39] Speaker 4: He did have a fight.
[45:40] Speaker 2: He had way more fights.
[45:41] Speaker 3: Is it him, though?
[45:42] Speaker 7: You pointed out that it's Julius Randle.
[45:46] Speaker 2: Oh, no, for sure.
[45:47] Speaker 7: I think Finch was talking about Julius.
[45:50] Speaker 3: Maybe.
[45:51] Speaker 6: We got punked, meaning our enforcer outside of Gobert didn't
[45:58] Speaker 6: show up to the game today. It hasn't shown up
[46:00] Speaker 6: to the game.
[46:01] Speaker 4: He doesn't always play to his physique, Julius, right?
[46:04] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[46:05] Speaker 2: I mean, from his numbers, he's averaging 36%, 21% from
[46:08] Speaker 2: the three and 14 points. So you're not giving me nothing.
[46:12] Speaker 2: And then the last series, he didn't really do anything.
[46:14] Speaker 2: It was, you know, I mean, it was a little better.
[46:17] Speaker 7: So is he being defensive-minded? What is his mindset?
[46:20] Speaker 6: Because it doesn't seem like he's trying to get the
[46:23] Speaker 6: offensive production going.
[46:25] Speaker 2: It needs to be.
[46:26] Speaker 6: But he is being physical with Wimby enough to like.
[46:29] Speaker 6: I like when he's guarding him because he does make
[46:31] Speaker 6: it tough. And Nas makes it tough. But it's not
[46:35] Speaker 6: tough enough for you to actually stop me or get fouls.
[46:38] Speaker 6: So if you're not coming down on the other end
[46:40] Speaker 6: and putting pressure on me, what are we doing essentially? Now,
[46:44] Speaker 6: I would say put Nas in for Julius.
[46:47] Speaker 1: No.
[46:48] Speaker 6: You're talking about stretching the floor and Nas is hitting
[46:50] Speaker 6: the three right now. Julius is shooting 21%, 36 from
[46:52] Speaker 6: the field. Bring him off the bench and let him
[46:55] Speaker 6: play against Luke Cornett.
[46:56] Speaker 2: Nah, he just got to get into that mode. He
[46:58] Speaker 2: just got to get into that.
[46:59] Speaker 3: Listen, you're going to lose either one of them dudes
[47:01] Speaker 3: if you don't start. Yeah, I was going to say
[47:03] Speaker 3: you run the same risk. Hey, you run the same
[47:05] Speaker 3: risk with not starting Julius Randle. Way more with Julius.
[47:08] Speaker 3: And not starting Rudy Gobert. You run the same risk
[47:11] Speaker 3: of losing them and your season definitely being over. For sure.
[47:16] Speaker 2: Well, I'd rather lose.
[47:17] Speaker 3: Check the fuck out.
[47:18] Speaker 2: Well, I mean, Rudy can sit down then at this
[47:21] Speaker 2: point because … Check out. I'd rather have the mother
[47:24] Speaker 2: two then because Randolph, I mean, shit, he just got
[47:28] Speaker 2: to get to the rim. I know you want to
[47:29] Speaker 2: be defensive-minded, but you can play both sides of the–
[47:33] Speaker 2: He not rebounding. Not doing anything. He averaging four turnovers.
[47:36] Speaker 3: He just– Just switching things up in the playoffs is necessary.
[47:42] Speaker 3: Not necessarily, I ain't saying lineups. How about you come
[47:46] Speaker 3: out the first few possessions and go zone? How about
[47:49] Speaker 3: you try something? They did that late in the fourth.
[47:50] Speaker 3: Start the game. Start the game that way because you
[47:53] Speaker 3: know Wimby is going to come out and try to
[47:54] Speaker 3: be aggressive early. Let's come out. Let's go zone. Every
[47:57] Speaker 3: time he touches, let's double 10. Let's try something different.
[47:59] Speaker 3: Let's go big. Let's start fucking huge. Let's start Anthony Edwards,
[48:04] Speaker 3: Jaden McDaniels, Rudy, Nas, and fucking Julius Randle. Let's start big.
[48:10] Speaker 3: Let's try something different. Let's rebound the hell out of
[48:13] Speaker 3: the ball to Brandon's point he made during his take.
[48:17] Speaker 3: When they points in the paint, when they score a
[48:20] Speaker 3: certain amount, they win. When they don't, they lose. So
[48:23] Speaker 3: I'm starting big, up our chances, get points in the paint,
[48:27] Speaker 3: throw some zone out there, trap women, be aggressive, play
[48:29] Speaker 3: big on De'Aaron Fox, play big on Dylan Harper. Don't
[48:34] Speaker 3: you going to get out and make downs? He got
[48:35] Speaker 3: to stay out of foul trouble, of course. Yeah, man. But, yeah, no,
[48:38] Speaker 3: so it's different things that you could try, but to
[48:42] Speaker 3: not start Rudy or– Julius, I think, is you're playing
[48:46] Speaker 3: with fire in that regard because it's just who the
[48:51] Speaker 3: players have been and what you've seen of them throughout
[48:54] Speaker 3: their tenure.
[48:57] Speaker 6: But if you're going down in the burning building, you
[48:59] Speaker 6: care about playing in fire at this point?
[49:01] Speaker 3: No, I don't.
[49:03] Speaker 7: At this point?
[49:04] Speaker 3: Something about winning, ultimately. You know what I'm saying? Something
[49:06] Speaker 3: about what we got to do to win. But I
[49:09] Speaker 3: know Finch and what he probably don't want to have
[49:12] Speaker 3: to put up with is that During the game.
[49:14] Speaker 7: During the game, right? Yeah, during the game.
[49:17] Speaker 3: So slippery slope, but Minnesota, you got to do something.
[49:23] Speaker 3: You got to try something different. I don't know what
[49:25] Speaker 3: that is.
[49:28] Speaker 7: Does Anthony Edwards need to do anything different?
[49:30] Speaker 2: I mean, he don't do bad knees. He's hampered, man.
[49:32] Speaker 3: I mean, shit.
[49:33] Speaker 6: It's like every other game. 20-20 in this one.
[49:36] Speaker 5: Obviously didn't start the first two games of the series
[49:38] Speaker 5: and missed the last two games of the Nuggets series.
[49:39] Speaker 3: That shit can be up and down, man. Like, if
[49:42] Speaker 3: you're dealing with high precision knee issues, it could be
[49:44] Speaker 3: so day-by-day how them things feeling, man.
[49:48] Speaker 1: We don't have a game. Extra day for Friday, though.
[49:51] Speaker 1: It's huge. It's huge.
[49:52] Speaker 5: Actually, he was very, very excited about it, but let's
[49:54] Speaker 5: talk about that. So Wolves now head back to Minnesota
[49:57] Speaker 5: with a chance to even the series game six. They've
[49:59] Speaker 5: been in this position before. They lost game five to
[50:01] Speaker 5: the Nuggets back in 2024, went on to win game
[50:04] Speaker 5: six at home by a franchise record 45 points, overcame
[50:08] Speaker 5: a 20-point deficit to win game seven in Denver. So
[50:12] Speaker 5: when you look at it, what adjustments or what are
[50:13] Speaker 5: the major things that the Wolves need to do to
[50:16] Speaker 5: keep their season alive?
[50:17] Speaker 1: Does Ant-Man just.
[50:18] Speaker 2: Get to the plate? Get to the paint. I'm telling you.
[50:20] Speaker 2: The games that they won, they're averaging over 50. You
[50:22] Speaker 2: got to take 30 shots. They're averaging over 50. Keep
[50:25] Speaker 2: the pressure in the paint. If they're not in the paint,
[50:27] Speaker 2: if they're not getting easier because it's going to open
[50:29] Speaker 2: up shots for them for threes, they got to stay
[50:31] Speaker 2: in the paint. I don't care if Wimby's in there.
[50:33] Speaker 2: You got to keep going at him. You just got
[50:35] Speaker 2: to attack. You got to play downhill because that's when
[50:38] Speaker 2: they're at their best. And Julius Randle got a shot. Yo,
[50:44] Speaker 2: he got to give me something. He got to give
[50:47] Speaker 2: me something. I need a game, brother. Like, I need
[50:49] Speaker 2: one of those games.
[50:50] Speaker 3: Well, you ain't the only one calling for it.
[50:52] Speaker 7: Trust me.
[50:55] Speaker 3: You ain't the only one calling for it.
[50:57] Speaker 6: Let's go back to just trying to figure out what
[50:58] Speaker 6: their identity is going into this series, particularly. How well
[51:03] Speaker 6: they played game one. They won by two. They were
[51:07] Speaker 6: in the game. They moved the ball. They drove the ball.
[51:10] Speaker 6: They got to the free throw line. When you really
[51:14] Speaker 6: look at how they play now, When the Spurs hit shots,
[51:18] Speaker 6: it's deflating to their defense because there's not an opportunity
[51:24] Speaker 6: to rebound and go and push the ball on fast
[51:26] Speaker 6: break opportunities. Sumu actually thrives more in the full court
[51:32] Speaker 6: than he does in the half court. And I think
[51:34] Speaker 6: the same with Nas. Nas likes fast break threes, spot
[51:38] Speaker 6: up threes. Conley hasn't shown much. that he can be
[51:43] Speaker 6: an impact outside of hitting that open three. He's hitting
[51:47] Speaker 6: that remarkable clip right now, but those open shots are coming.
[51:52] Speaker 7: Far in between.
[51:54] Speaker 4: He made a couple last night.
[51:55] Speaker 6: He definitely did, and big shots too, and they're timely.
[51:59] Speaker 6: But like Kenya was saying, if you throw the zone in,
[52:02] Speaker 6: what it does to the Spurs, because they get trigger
[52:05] Speaker 6: happy just like the Celtics. They like to shoot the three.
[52:09] Speaker 6: Dillon will shoot it. Castle will shoot it. And when
[52:11] Speaker 6: they miss, they have a hard time getting back. That's
[52:14] Speaker 6: where they get easy transition points. And I think if
[52:19] Speaker 6: you're going to pick them up early in the half court,
[52:24] Speaker 6: you have to be able to transition back into the
[52:27] Speaker 6: half court. into a zone, into something that's going to
[52:30] Speaker 6: make them pass the ball around. Because once it gets
[52:32] Speaker 6: to Wimby's hands and it's like short shot clock, five seconds,
[52:35] Speaker 6: six seconds, that's where you have an advantage because Wimby's
[52:39] Speaker 6: going to make a timely shot that's not going to
[52:41] Speaker 6: be up to his par, up to his standard. And
[52:44] Speaker 6: if you can make them play into the shot clock,
[52:47] Speaker 6: you have a chance. But I don't think that the
[52:49] Speaker 6: identity right now for the Wolves is to stop The
[52:54] Speaker 6: fast break opportunities for the Spurs is to make them
[52:59] Speaker 6: shoot threes.
[52:59] Speaker 7: They're just trying to figure out how to stop Wimby.
[53:04] Speaker 2: Spurs bench was 44 points, too, compared to.
[53:06] Speaker 7: They're definitely outscoring.
[53:07] Speaker 2: So that bench is really going crazy.
[53:13] Speaker 3: How many assists Wimby averaged?
[53:15] Speaker 1: In the postseason?
[53:16] Speaker 3: In the postseason. Just do the postseason.
[53:21] Speaker 1: If you don't mind.
[53:23] Speaker 3: Brother Joe?
[53:23] Speaker 7: Four and a half. Four, maybe.
[53:28] Speaker 4: He had five last night.
[53:29] Speaker 3: He had 2.4. He averaged you two and a half, right? Yeah,
[53:36] Speaker 3: I'm seeing if he can play out of double teams. Yep.
[53:39] Speaker 7: But where are you going to double him?
[53:41] Speaker 3: I'm going to make them now. Listen, I'm going to
[53:43] Speaker 3: change them. So this is the thing, right? The way
[53:45] Speaker 3: I'm thinking about it, right? I'm going to change up
[53:48] Speaker 3: how we're defending him. I'm going to let him catch it.
[53:51] Speaker 4: Right?
[53:52] Speaker 3: Because they fight to catch so much. I'm going to
[53:54] Speaker 3: concede to catch.
[53:55] Speaker 7: They're running pin downs for him.
[53:57] Speaker 3: So on those plays, that's tough. When they're doing those,
[54:00] Speaker 3: you can't, right? But the other players, when they are,
[54:02] Speaker 3: I'm going to concede to catch, and I'm going to
[54:05] Speaker 3: see if he can pass the ball. You're waiting for
[54:07] Speaker 3: the dribble? Yes, absolutely.
[54:09] Speaker 4: Absolutely.
[54:09] Speaker 7: On the catch, you're not going on the catch. You're
[54:11] Speaker 7: going on the first dribble.
[54:13] Speaker 3: I'm going to mix it up, though.
[54:15] Speaker 2: Remember this right here?
[54:16] Speaker 1: ATO, listen.
[54:17] Speaker 2: Remember this right here?
[54:18] Speaker 3: Stunt?
[54:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, stunt and go.
[54:19] Speaker 2: Stunt Addy?
[54:20] Speaker 3: ATO, one of the times, hey, we're going with the
[54:22] Speaker 3: ball in there. Yeah.
[54:23] Speaker 8: Right?
[54:24] Speaker 3: Time will pass. We're getting there. Next time, we're going
[54:28] Speaker 3: to go on the first dribble. Next time, I'm going
[54:30] Speaker 3: to have his head so confused on when we double-teamed
[54:34] Speaker 3: and when we not.
[54:34] Speaker 1: Yep.
[54:35] Speaker 3: He going to be so indecisive with his moves. That's
[54:38] Speaker 3: what I just want to make.
[54:40] Speaker 2: I like that right there.
[54:41] Speaker 6: I like that too because it goes back to how
[54:43] Speaker 6: we all, we grew up playing that style, NBA basketball.
[54:49] Speaker 6: where I don't think they practiced that enough to even
[54:51] Speaker 6: be able to execute it. Because your takes going through
[54:54] Speaker 6: those transitions, like, hey, look, right now it's full.
[54:57] Speaker 2: Rotation, one dribble. No, they can do it. Man, this
[55:01] Speaker 2: is a team that went to the Western Conference Finals twice.
[55:03] Speaker 2: But if they used to plan one way, though. Man, listen,
[55:06] Speaker 2: they can pick that shit up on the fly, man.
[55:07] Speaker 2: This is grown man basketball.
[55:09] Speaker 6: What's the mistakes you make in the rotation? When you
[55:12] Speaker 6: talk about we doubling Kenyon on the one.
[55:14] Speaker 3: Dribble, right?
[55:16] Speaker 2: Rotating is the biggest thing.
[55:17] Speaker 7: Full rotate, half rotate, stay with yours.
[55:20] Speaker 3: The reason they, listen, and I hear you, yes, and
[55:23] Speaker 3: I agree with you, yes, but the reality of the
[55:27] Speaker 3: situation is with a lot of these, Minnesota probably is
[55:30] Speaker 3: in because they got older players, but for the masses,
[55:34] Speaker 3: they have dumbed it down so much for these NBA players.
[55:37] Speaker 3: That's why they switch everything.
[55:38] Speaker 1: Yeah. Right?
[55:38] Speaker 2: What about college, though? I mean, college, that's where.
[55:41] Speaker 3: You learn it, right? No, not this.
[55:43] Speaker 7: What we talking about?
[55:45] Speaker 2: The double and you got to rotate and all that?
[55:48] Speaker 3: The dudes who they depend on, they in school for
[55:50] Speaker 3: one year. They ain't learning it, really. To the point
[55:53] Speaker 3: I've been making, guys, the longer dudes stay in school,
[55:57] Speaker 3: they're more prepared to play professional sports. Football, you stay
[56:01] Speaker 3: three years, you're prepared to play professional sports. The longer
[56:05] Speaker 3: dudes stay in college, I feel you learn to defend
[56:07] Speaker 3: better on the ball, help side defense, you talk better,
[56:11] Speaker 3: because if you don't, that coach won't play you. For sure.
[56:14] Speaker 3: The NBA would be a lot much better product with
[56:19] Speaker 3: older players, in my opinion, right?
[56:22] Speaker 4: How long did you stay in school?
[56:23] Speaker 3: Four years.
[56:23] Speaker 1: Thank you.
[56:24] Speaker 3: And I needed all four, right? To be the player
[56:26] Speaker 3: that I became and to learn everything that I learned
[56:28] Speaker 3: defensively and how to be a complete basketball player, I
[56:32] Speaker 3: learned everything. every step of the way from my freshman year,
[56:35] Speaker 3: and it took all of that, right?
[56:37] Speaker 4: You were blessed to play for that man.
[56:39] Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely. Good teachers are necessary, right? They teach discipline.
[56:44] Speaker 3: That's the main thing. But they have dumbed it down
[56:46] Speaker 3: so much for these NBA players because they– it's so– it's–
[56:52] Speaker 3: I don't want to call them dumb basketball players, but
[56:56] Speaker 3: they are– challenged at times when it comes to scheming
[57:00] Speaker 3: and things defensively because it takes effort it takes thought
[57:04] Speaker 3: right it's the easiest thing for me to tell you
[57:06] Speaker 3: to go out and switch one through five yeah.
[57:08] Speaker 6: Right we're switching everything we say that is so easy
[57:12] Speaker 6: for me to.
[57:12] Speaker 2: Do i mean that's just crazy with the development then
[57:14] Speaker 2: i mean i'm just saying like even for my aau
[57:16] Speaker 2: days like i grew up we played defense like we
[57:18] Speaker 2: had like high school coaches like we played like that's
[57:21] Speaker 2: like we were taught that like my aau teams are
[57:24] Speaker 2: like you know we everybody knew how to get out
[57:26] Speaker 2: of the trap and rotate a cell drill. They don't
[57:29] Speaker 2: do 4-0?
[57:30] Speaker 3: You very seldom see them, and listen, you very seldom
[57:32] Speaker 3: see when they invert on the weak side.
[57:36] Speaker 1: Right?
[57:36] Speaker 6: The ball on this side, the big will still be
[57:40] Speaker 6: at the free throw line, and the small will be
[57:42] Speaker 6: on the back. I see Rudy and Wimby, they both
[57:46] Speaker 6: do it. Wimby actually said, no, I'm down. I got
[57:48] Speaker 6: to get the low, man.
[57:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, but he's been playing professionally.
[57:51] Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's just for the masses of it.
[57:54] Speaker 1: Right, right, right.
[57:54] Speaker 3: They so.
[57:58] Speaker 3: Like, when it come to it, right? And you see
[58:01] Speaker 3: it time and time again, helping off the strong. You
[58:04] Speaker 3: got a dead shooter in the strong side.
[58:06] Speaker 7: Don't help off the fucking strong side.
[58:08] Speaker 3: Time and time again.
[58:09] Speaker 7: Don't help off. He the only option. Time and time again.
[58:11] Speaker 7: Don't help off of him.
[58:12] Speaker 2: I seen somebody do that the other day in the
[58:14] Speaker 2: Pistons game. They helped off Donovan Mitchell.
[58:16] Speaker 1: In the corner.
[58:16] Speaker 4: Yes.
[58:17] Speaker 2: I'm like, why even Donovan Mitchell in the corner?
[58:20] Speaker 3: Like, what is that? As he had it going up
[58:22] Speaker 3: to that point.
[58:23] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[58:23] Speaker 3: That was the thing to get him going.
[58:25] Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm like, what?
[58:27] Speaker 6: But that's the discipline when you talk about coaching and
[58:30] Speaker 6: trying to get guys in line with the defensive.
[58:33] Speaker 3: Strategies that you've got.
[58:35] Speaker 6: If you're not practicing that in training camp, that's what
[58:37] Speaker 6: I felt like the Spurs was doing. Training camp, they
[58:39] Speaker 6: had a great training camp of understanding where to be,
[58:41] Speaker 6: how to be. This is our Spurs defense and our system.
[58:45] Speaker 6: So when you talk about being on the nail, inverting
[58:48] Speaker 6: on the backside, talking on closeouts, closeout to the shooter
[58:52] Speaker 6: or you push them off the line, these are different
[58:54] Speaker 6: things that Discipline organizations have embedded, and I think OKC
[58:58] Speaker 6: has that. I think the Spurs have that. I think
[59:01] Speaker 6: the Timberwolves have that. I think the Pacers have that
[59:04] Speaker 6: to some extent. I think the New York Knicks have
[59:07] Speaker 6: that at a certain extent. The Detroit Pistons have that.
[59:10] Speaker 6: that at a certain extent. But these are coaches also
[59:12] Speaker 6: who understand the culture of having both sides of the
[59:16] Speaker 6: ball play at a high level. And so when this
[59:19] Speaker 6: particular rotation, you're talking about doubling Wimby in the post,
[59:23] Speaker 6: having a full rotation scheme or a half rotation scheme,
[59:27] Speaker 6: or now we're talking about Tony Parker cut.
[59:29] Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
[59:30] Speaker 6: All right, Dylan Harper, you're going to throw it in.
[59:32] Speaker 6: They're doubling Wimby off the catch. You cut off baseline side.
[59:35] Speaker 6: Let's see if they stay with him. They don't.
[59:38] Speaker 3: All right.
[59:38] Speaker 6: You got the full rotation handoff. You got to go
[59:41] Speaker 6: into the pick and roll. Wimby is a lot of
[59:43] Speaker 6: things you can do as a good coach that can
[59:45] Speaker 6: mitigate the schemes of the defense. But the defense also
[59:48] Speaker 6: has to fucking execute the scheme. You have to go
[59:51] Speaker 6: into and say to your team when you go to
[59:53] Speaker 6: the timeout, hey, that's what we want right there.
[59:56] Speaker 7: We want that. It was a good shot. He made it.
[59:59] Speaker 6: But that's the type of shot we want them shooting.
[1:00:01] Speaker 6: They're not going to make that all night. And I
[1:00:03] Speaker 6: think that's a better chance of them having to win
[1:00:05] Speaker 6: the game, switching up their defensive scheme like that. Switch
[1:00:09] Speaker 6: it up. Switch it up. Buck it up with him.
[1:00:12] Speaker 6: You ain't got to go bully him anymore. You got
[1:00:14] Speaker 6: to now strategize intelligently. and get him to turn the
[1:00:18] Speaker 6: ball over since he only averages two assists.
[1:00:21] Speaker 1: 2.8 assists, 2.4 turnovers.
[1:00:22] Speaker 3: As well as being physical with him still, but it's just, man,
[1:00:27] Speaker 3: these guys offensively, they are good. They shoot the ball
[1:00:32] Speaker 3: at a high clip. Everybody works on this aspect of
[1:00:34] Speaker 3: the game, yes. But you can manipulate who you want
[1:00:41] Speaker 3: taking shots if you scheme it. That's all I'm– I
[1:00:46] Speaker 3: can manipulate the game plan defensively on who I want
[1:00:49] Speaker 3: taking shots. I'm a stickler with that, and I'm a
[1:00:53] Speaker 3: firm believer in it. And I just watch game in,
[1:00:57] Speaker 3: game out. Man, I've watched every playoff game there has been.
[1:01:02] Speaker 3: And the lack of adjustments defensively in a lot of
[1:01:06] Speaker 3: these games, watching the same game plan come out and
[1:01:10] Speaker 3: play it the same way where you just got beat
[1:01:12] Speaker 3: the game before doing it this way is asinine to me.
[1:01:15] Speaker 1: It is.
[1:01:16] Speaker 5: A hard head makes a soft ass, as Ant-Man said,
[1:01:18] Speaker 5: but we will see what happens in game six this
[1:01:21] Speaker 5: Friday if the Wolves can keep their season alive. All right, well,
[1:01:24] Speaker 5: let's shift it over to the Eastern Conference. Sixers season
[1:01:26] Speaker 5: ended unceremoniously this weekend with the Knicks and their fans
[1:01:30] Speaker 5: rolling into Xfinity Mobile Arena and pulling out the brooms
[1:01:33] Speaker 5: for the sweep. So Tuesday, the team announced they were
[1:01:36] Speaker 5: parting ways with president of basketball ops, Daryl Morey, after
[1:01:39] Speaker 5: six seasons with the team. But according to reports, they
[1:01:41] Speaker 5: plan on retaining head coach Nick Nurse. So Bob Myers,
[1:01:44] Speaker 5: the president of... sports for Harris, Blitzer Sports and Entertainment,
[1:01:47] Speaker 5: former four-time champion GM with the Warriors, will lead the
[1:01:50] Speaker 5: search for the new head executive for the Sixers, and
[1:01:53] Speaker 5: will oversee the franchise's basketball department in the interim.
[1:01:57] Speaker 3: Why don't we just take the fucking job?
[1:01:59] Speaker 4: Thank you.
[1:01:59] Speaker 2: Wait, so what happens?
[1:02:01] Speaker 3: My bad, my bad.
[1:02:03] Speaker 6: I think he just comes in, but he does it for,
[1:02:04] Speaker 6: he's getting his bag from a bunch of teams.
[1:02:06] Speaker 1: Okay, I got the perfect one.
[1:02:07] Speaker 2: Wait, so he left this one just to?
[1:02:09] Speaker 5: He's overseeing sports, so he's helping, he helps teams. find executives,
[1:02:13] Speaker 5: help schools, find coaches. He's been doing a lot of
[1:02:14] Speaker 5: different stuff. He's getting his bag.
[1:02:16] Speaker 3: From everybody instead of one team.
[1:02:18] Speaker 1: With no stress.
[1:02:19] Speaker 3: That's on y'all.
[1:02:20] Speaker 1: Y'all got it. I'll do it for a week or two,
[1:02:22] Speaker 1: but then y'all got it.
[1:02:23] Speaker 5: So Sixers made the playoffs in five of Morey's six
[1:02:25] Speaker 5: seasons in Philly, but never advanced past the second round.
[1:02:28] Speaker 5: I think we're saying failed to do since 2001. But
[1:02:31] Speaker 5: when you hear that information, what's your reaction to Daryl
[1:02:33] Speaker 5: Morey getting fired by the Sixers?
[1:02:37] Speaker 2: You heard what James Harden said?
[1:02:39] Speaker 3: Daryl Morey is actually. Why is he the only one?
[1:02:43] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:02:43] Speaker 3: That's my thing.
[1:02:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
[1:02:45] Speaker 3: That's the only question I had when I heard it.
[1:02:47] Speaker 3: Who else you want on the chopping block? It ain't
[1:02:50] Speaker 3: a solo gig over there. That's my thing. He ain't
[1:02:53] Speaker 3: the only one making it. He's making it. It's a
[1:02:55] Speaker 3: group decision thing, right?
[1:02:58] Speaker 4: Nick Nurse is coming back.
[1:03:00] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:03:01] Speaker 2: Who else was over there making decisions?
[1:03:03] Speaker 3: I like Nick, but what has he... I don't think.
[1:03:06] Speaker 1: Elton Brand's still there.
[1:03:06] Speaker 7: Elton Brand over there?
[1:03:08] Speaker 5: So they still retain most of their executive, but I
[1:03:10] Speaker 5: think Gerald Morey, I think, was surprised and disappointed by
[1:03:13] Speaker 5: that decision. Yeah, because if you don't want to be
[1:03:17] Speaker 5: let go, I would be too.
[1:03:18] Speaker 3: If it's a group thing, if you clean the house...
[1:03:20] Speaker 3: Clean house. Well, forget it. Spray and clean it. I
[1:03:24] Speaker 3: don't want to be the only one. Yeah, that's what
[1:03:26] Speaker 3: that is. I'd be pissed too. I ain't making these
[1:03:29] Speaker 3: decisions alone.
[1:03:30] Speaker 2: Go on, Mike. Like New Jack City. I'm going now.
[1:03:34] Speaker 2: I'm taking everybody.
[1:03:35] Speaker 1: Kareem Akbar.
[1:03:35] Speaker 3: He's the head of the CNB. I told you.
[1:03:37] Speaker 1: Kareem Akbar.
[1:03:38] Speaker 3: That nigga was like, not me.
[1:03:40] Speaker 1: Wow.
[1:03:40] Speaker 2: Singing shit.
[1:03:40] Speaker 6: But why?
[1:03:41] Speaker 1: What could... Why.
[1:04:01] Speaker 3: And you don't clean the house.
[1:04:04] Speaker 7: I feel like it's his fault.
[1:04:06] Speaker 1: What?
[1:04:09] Speaker 3: E.G. E.G.
[1:04:10] Speaker 6: James Harden. So Simon Paul George traded, gave Jerry McCain away.
[1:04:14] Speaker 6: Jerry McCain. I think that hurt them the most. Watching
[1:04:17] Speaker 6: Jerry McCain do what he's doing. I think that's what
[1:04:21] Speaker 6: they pissed. Why would you do that? Because of the nails?
[1:04:24] Speaker 2: I mean, it started when Jimmy was there.
[1:04:26] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[1:04:29] Speaker 1: Darryl Moore wasn't there.
[1:04:31] Speaker 3: He was in Houston.
[1:04:32] Speaker 2: Oh, he was.
[1:04:33] Speaker 3: He was in Houston with Jimmy.
[1:04:34] Speaker 2: I'm saying that was the bad juju that started it.
[1:04:36] Speaker 2: Then he just got in and had to clean it up.
[1:04:38] Speaker 2: And it was like, ah.
[1:04:40] Speaker 6: Might be Elton back there hiding behind somebody.
[1:04:44] Speaker 7: Who?
[1:04:44] Speaker 1: Might be Elton Brand.
[1:04:45] Speaker 7: The Duke man.
[1:04:46] Speaker 1: The Duke man.
[1:04:47] Speaker 3: Over there like this. It's him. That's funny. That's funny. No,
[1:04:56] Speaker 3: I'm surprised.
[1:04:57] Speaker 5: At the end of the day, I feel it's all
[1:04:58] Speaker 5: a bead-centric, though. Obviously, made some great moves in that role,
[1:05:01] Speaker 5: getting Tyrese Maxey, Vijay Edgecombe, also traded Harden on paper.
[1:05:06] Speaker 1: Got Ben Simmons.
[1:05:08] Speaker 2: But you on that hook, man. Ever since then, it's
[1:05:11] Speaker 2: been down.
[1:05:12] Speaker 5: We're going to talk more about that in a second,
[1:05:14] Speaker 5: but that's the other side. Signed PG to that Max.
[1:05:17] Speaker 1: Hmm. And being that three-year extension that starts next season.
[1:05:21] Speaker 3: So is it solely Darryl Morey's decision? So that's what
[1:05:24] Speaker 3: I'm getting at here, right? He probably has to say so,
[1:05:28] Speaker 3: but I'm pretty sure everybody's in the room like, all right,
[1:05:31] Speaker 3: let's do this. That's all I'm saying.
[1:05:35] Speaker 4: So I've enjoyed talking to Darryl Morey in the past.
[1:05:39] Speaker 4: He's fun to talk to, but here's the truth about him.
[1:05:43] Speaker 4: He's always been this overrated myth. And it started, seriously.
[1:05:50] Speaker 1: I'm not going to talk no more.
[1:05:51] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:05:52] Speaker 4: So, I don't know. Is that all right?
[1:05:54] Speaker 1: Yeah. All right. Skip, you do what you want.
[1:05:56] Speaker 4: So, the truth is, it's mostly smoke and mirrors with him.
[1:06:04] Speaker 4: And it's all, he's the analytics wizard. He was the
[1:06:06] Speaker 4: first one to break through. Came from Stats Inc. and
[1:06:10] Speaker 4: Chess Master and musical theater producer, like he's above it all.
[1:06:16] Speaker 4: He's above the NBA. Watch what I do. I'm still watching.
[1:06:21] Speaker 4: I'm still waiting because he's won nothing, and he's six
[1:06:25] Speaker 4: years in Philadelphia, and they didn't get past the second round.
[1:06:28] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[1:06:29] Speaker 4: I just need to see one finals, even if they
[1:06:31] Speaker 4: lose the finals, but I didn't see one. And remember,
[1:06:34] Speaker 4: he started in Houston 2007 to 2020. It's a long time, man.
[1:06:37] Speaker 4: It is a long time. And he had his run
[1:06:41] Speaker 4: of stars and he went and got James Harden. And
[1:06:45] Speaker 4: it seemed like a good move because he got a
[1:06:47] Speaker 4: scoring champ and an MVP out of it. But listen,
[1:06:52] Speaker 4: if you look hard at James' playoff resume, it just
[1:06:55] Speaker 4: has flame outs all over it, right? So you're betting
[1:06:59] Speaker 4: on the wrong guy. In the end, you're betting on
[1:07:01] Speaker 4: the wrong guy. And then James leaves and Daryl takes
[1:07:05] Speaker 4: out a full page ad in the Houston paper to
[1:07:07] Speaker 4: thank him for all that he did for Houston. Well,
[1:07:10] Speaker 4: How many– no championships. And then you point out, and
[1:07:14] Speaker 4: then James completely turns on him in Philadelphia and says,
[1:07:19] Speaker 4: I never will play for that man again because he's
[1:07:22] Speaker 4: a liar.
[1:07:23] Speaker 1: James wanted his bread.
[1:07:24] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:07:24] Speaker 1: But he took a team-friendly discount. He did.
[1:07:26] Speaker 6: So he had to get that bag.
[1:07:27] Speaker 4: That is true.
[1:07:28] Speaker 1: That bag was not there.
[1:07:29] Speaker 4: But, you know, he's just– he just lives on his reputation–
[1:07:37] Speaker 4: which is pretty empty. But seriously, that's what's happened all
[1:07:41] Speaker 4: these years. Oh, Daryl Morey, he knows.
[1:07:45] Speaker 3: So he gave.
[1:07:45] Speaker 4: Paul all that money, and now what? And he gave Joel,
[1:07:49] Speaker 4: he was the one who pushed to go ahead and
[1:07:51] Speaker 4: extend Joel for three more years. And it's just silly
[1:07:55] Speaker 4: money for a guy who just stays hurt. There's always
[1:07:59] Speaker 4: something with Joel, and I love him. I've loved him
[1:08:02] Speaker 4: for a long time, but he just He's just always
[1:08:05] Speaker 4: going to be hurt. When you need him the most,
[1:08:07] Speaker 4: as they needed him against the Knicks, something's up. And
[1:08:12] Speaker 4: it's the knee, but then it's the hip, and then
[1:08:15] Speaker 4: it's the, it's just, he's sick and hurt and sick
[1:08:17] Speaker 4: and hurt. And Darryl just kept betting on him and
[1:08:21] Speaker 4: betting on him. And to your point, Bob Myers is
[1:08:25] Speaker 4: sitting there, and he's the truth. You know, he is
[1:08:30] Speaker 4: the literal truth. He might be the best one out there.
[1:08:34] Speaker 4: And wait, you're going to commission him to go find?
[1:08:36] Speaker 7: No, wait.
[1:08:38] Speaker 2: He's the one, right?
[1:08:40] Speaker 4: He's the guy.
[1:08:40] Speaker 3: I ain't trying to be here.
[1:08:42] Speaker 6: She want that responsibility.
[1:08:44] Speaker 3: Y'all don't even have.
[1:08:45] Speaker 1: Your own fans in the arena. What are we doing?
[1:08:47] Speaker 4: So Josh Harris, who owns now the Commanders and the
[1:08:51] Speaker 4: Sixers and seems like half the rest of the league,
[1:08:55] Speaker 4: but Josh Harris made a great move. He went out
[1:08:57] Speaker 4: and got Bob Myers and said, I'm gonna pay you
[1:08:59] Speaker 4: a bunch of money to come be my my guy
[1:09:03] Speaker 4: you know my right arm my right hand i need
[1:09:05] Speaker 4: you to be my ultimate advisor and now he needs
[1:09:08] Speaker 4: him to to build a championship team and and they
[1:09:13] Speaker 4: said well he'll be you know overseeing basketball But, man,
[1:09:16] Speaker 4: I would want him to be in charge of basketball.
[1:09:19] Speaker 4: That's just me. Because he's really, really good at it.
[1:09:22] Speaker 4: And he showed you for a long time how good
[1:09:26] Speaker 4: he was at it. And everybody respects him. So it's
[1:09:29] Speaker 4: so funny to me. You've got the truth and you
[1:09:32] Speaker 4: got the myth. So they let go of the myth
[1:09:34] Speaker 4: and then they tell the truth to go find another myth, right? Oh, yeah.
[1:09:37] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[1:09:39] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[1:09:40] Speaker 6: Okay.
[1:09:40] Speaker 1: Get your shit on.
[1:09:41] Speaker 3: Oh, shit.
[1:09:42] Speaker 7: I don't know.
[1:09:43] Speaker 1: The myth to get the truth back.
[1:09:44] Speaker 3: It's the truth.
[1:09:47] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[1:09:47] Speaker 3: Right. Who can do the job better than the guy
[1:09:49] Speaker 3: who's going to go find somebody?
[1:09:51] Speaker 4: Come on, man.
[1:09:53] Speaker 3: Like, I'm supposed to believe that this guy can do
[1:09:56] Speaker 3: what you put together in Golden State. Like, no.
[1:09:59] Speaker 6: Do you think they're just pump-hacking Bob and they're just
[1:10:02] Speaker 6: going to make him stay just a little bit longer?
[1:10:03] Speaker 1: Maybe.
[1:10:04] Speaker 7: Unless Bob's trying to go get some people that he knew.
[1:10:06] Speaker 3: No, he's going to hire somebody. One thing for sure,
[1:10:09] Speaker 3: two things. He is going to hire somebody. He's going
[1:10:11] Speaker 3: to find somebody. It might not be somebody where everybody want,
[1:10:13] Speaker 3: but he's going to find somebody. Somebody come in there
[1:10:17] Speaker 3: and do, like, I just, this is weird, but hey,
[1:10:21] Speaker 3: shout out to Bob Myers for, hey, Getting his bread up,
[1:10:24] Speaker 3: because if he's doing this thing for multiple teams and universe,
[1:10:27] Speaker 3: whatever he's doing.
[1:10:28] Speaker 5: So they own a bunch of franchises, New Jersey Devils,
[1:10:31] Speaker 5: a bunch of arenas, like Deep Pockets.
[1:10:35] Speaker 3: I'm talking like Bob Myers, though. For him to be
[1:10:39] Speaker 3: in this role, because he's doing it for multiple people, right?
[1:10:42] Speaker 6: So Harris Blitzer is basically Josh Harris' company, so they
[1:10:45] Speaker 6: have a huge portfolio of a bunch of different teams, brands, venues.
[1:10:50] Speaker 6: Bob don't want to put himself in the situation he
[1:10:52] Speaker 6: was in In that last little stint in Golden State
[1:10:56] Speaker 6: where he almost took the blame for all that shit
[1:10:59] Speaker 6: that went down.
[1:11:00] Speaker 3: It's less stress doing it this way. Yeah. Behind the scenes.
[1:11:03] Speaker 3: Like Van Gundy. That's why Van Gundy didn't coach for
[1:11:05] Speaker 3: all them years. He's like, shit, I can sit over
[1:11:07] Speaker 3: here and still be a part of the game without
[1:11:09] Speaker 3: the stress? Yeah. Sign me up for that. And I'm
[1:11:13] Speaker 3: pretty sure that's a Bob Myers thing. You know what?
[1:11:15] Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true.
[1:11:16] Speaker 3: I can stay in it, but not get, I'm saying,
[1:11:18] Speaker 3: don't have the stress of putting the team together.
[1:11:21] Speaker 7: I could Influence.
[1:11:24] Speaker 1: I got to fire him.
[1:11:26] Speaker 6: I don't like this suit, man.
[1:11:28] Speaker 1: Get out of here.
[1:11:29] Speaker 3: That's what Jerry West was doing. That's what certain guys
[1:11:33] Speaker 3: were doing for certain people on the team. So, yeah.
[1:11:37] Speaker 1: All right.
[1:11:38] Speaker 6: Well, let's talk about the Joel Embiid of it also.
[1:11:40] Speaker 5: Embiid returned from an appendectomy to help lift the Sixers
[1:11:44] Speaker 5: over the Celtics in seven games in the first round.
[1:11:46] Speaker 5: Missed time in the second round series dealing with a
[1:11:48] Speaker 5: hip and ankle injury. sixth time that Embiid Sixers have
[1:11:52] Speaker 5: been eliminated in the second round in nine trips to
[1:11:55] Speaker 5: the playoffs. So after Philly got eliminated, the former MVP
[1:11:59] Speaker 5: offered these thoughts.
[1:12:01] Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean, you know, I said it, and I'm
[1:12:03] Speaker 11: going to say it again. I know we lost, you know,
[1:12:07] Speaker 11: and I know that's not the right mentality to have. But,
[1:12:10] Speaker 11: you know, for me, this was a success. I came
[1:12:14] Speaker 11: into this year not knowing where I was going to be.
[1:12:18] Speaker 11: You know, I know I was going to play. if
[1:12:21] Speaker 11: I was even going to play based on how the
[1:12:23] Speaker 11: knee was the last, you know, the last few years. And,
[1:12:26] Speaker 11: you know, I came in just, you know, you know,
[1:12:30] Speaker 11: hoping for the best. And I feel like we're in
[1:12:33] Speaker 11: a position where we figured out the knee hasn't been
[1:12:36] Speaker 11: an issue.
[1:12:39] Speaker 5: So Embiid also said the Sixers entire organization needs to
[1:12:43] Speaker 5: hold themselves accountable moving forward. But Embiid missed the first
[1:12:46] Speaker 5: three games against the Celtics, played in three of the
[1:12:48] Speaker 5: four games in the series against the Knicks. averaging 19 points,
[1:12:52] Speaker 5: five rebounds, three assists, but only 38 games in the
[1:12:56] Speaker 5: regular season. He's played a total of 96 games in
[1:13:00] Speaker 5: the past three seasons. Skip, when you hear Embiid saying
[1:13:02] Speaker 5: he considers the season a success, do you agree with
[1:13:04] Speaker 5: Joel Embiid saying that the season was a success?
[1:13:07] Speaker 4: Again, I like Joel, but that's just wrong. I don't
[1:13:12] Speaker 4: want to hear it. Nobody wants to hear it. It's
[1:13:16] Speaker 4: offensive to Sixers fans, to Sixers fans, brass Sixers teammates
[1:13:24] Speaker 4: but that's been his mentality from the start is that
[1:13:30] Speaker 4: winning's always been second on the list maybe third and
[1:13:34] Speaker 4: he wants to make money number one he's made a
[1:13:37] Speaker 4: lot because he's now in the midst of a three-year
[1:13:40] Speaker 4: 200 million dollar gig and he is wildly talent. He
[1:13:47] Speaker 4: he's in the Wimby range to me of alien talent.
[1:13:50] Speaker 4: That's just me because I've never seen a seven footer
[1:13:53] Speaker 4: shoot free throws better than this man can shoot free throws.
[1:13:56] Speaker 4: He can get there and he can make them at
[1:13:59] Speaker 4: a 88, 90% clip. And he's capable on any given
[1:14:04] Speaker 4: night of going 17 for 17 from the free throw line.
[1:14:06] Speaker 4: It's just hard. It's just, but he's got that. And he,
[1:14:11] Speaker 4: he can be a defensive force. When he had two
[1:14:14] Speaker 4: knees instead of just, you know, a half and a half,
[1:14:18] Speaker 4: he could control the game on both ends, which is
[1:14:20] Speaker 4: why he won an MVP. And yet, mentality-wise, he cares
[1:14:28] Speaker 4: about making money, in large part for his family, taking
[1:14:31] Speaker 4: care of his family. And the rest, the winning part's
[1:14:35] Speaker 4: optional to Joel.
[1:14:37] Speaker 1: And I.
[1:14:39] Speaker 4: Know for a fact, I've... one really high place source there,
[1:14:42] Speaker 4: which is why I told you that after the appendectomy,
[1:14:46] Speaker 4: the doctors cleared him for game one against Boston. It
[1:14:50] Speaker 4: was just up to him. They said, it's up to you.
[1:14:52] Speaker 4: Whatever your tolerance level is, you'll be fine. You're not
[1:14:55] Speaker 4: going to re-injure. It's gone. It's out.
[1:14:59] Speaker 7: So you stand on that?
[1:15:01] Speaker 4: I do stand on that.
[1:15:02] Speaker 1: I like that.
[1:15:03] Speaker 3: Because there were people refuting.
[1:15:04] Speaker 1: There were people refuting. I just heard it.
[1:15:07] Speaker 4: From a horse's mouth. And then he did come back,
[1:15:12] Speaker 4: what was it, game four against Boston? And he looked
[1:15:16] Speaker 4: pretty good. In fact, he looked real good. And I
[1:15:20] Speaker 4: don't know how they did it, but they won three
[1:15:22] Speaker 4: games at Boston in that series, which still just boggles
[1:15:25] Speaker 4: my mind. But they did that. And he had a
[1:15:28] Speaker 4: lot to do with it. And I thought if he
[1:15:31] Speaker 4: was like 90% right against– The Knicks, I thought they
[1:15:37] Speaker 4: had a real shot, but he's the nuclear weapon. And
[1:15:43] Speaker 4: then all of a sudden, he's got an ankle and
[1:15:45] Speaker 4: a hip, which had nothing to do with knees or appendix.
[1:15:50] Speaker 4: And it's just all, he has a long history of
[1:15:55] Speaker 4: my stomach's upset.
[1:15:57] Speaker 1: I got gas.
[1:15:58] Speaker 4: Yeah, I got gas. Just one thing after another. And
[1:16:02] Speaker 4: so I know that they faced, this is back to
[1:16:05] Speaker 4: Daryl Morey, it was a huge decision whether to extend him.
[1:16:09] Speaker 4: Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
[1:16:11] Speaker 5: Right?
[1:16:12] Speaker 4: Do we want to really, do we want to see
[1:16:14] Speaker 4: him go somewhere else later in his career and break
[1:16:17] Speaker 4: through and carry some team to a championship? And they said, no,
[1:16:21] Speaker 4: he's just too valuable. So they extended him, and then
[1:16:25] Speaker 4: they have to sit and watch him say, It was
[1:16:28] Speaker 4: a success this year because I stayed relatively healthy. They
[1:16:34] Speaker 4: don't want to hear it. And in the end, it
[1:16:37] Speaker 4: wasn't a success. And he just kind of creaks along,
[1:16:42] Speaker 4: limps along. And I go back. Somebody from the Sixers,
[1:16:47] Speaker 4: whose name I can't say, called me, this is the truth,
[1:16:50] Speaker 4: before the draft, before Joel's draft, and said, we're just
[1:16:54] Speaker 4: trying to gather information on Joel Embiid, Kansas. What do
[1:16:59] Speaker 4: you think of him? And I just say he's a monster.
[1:17:02] Speaker 4: You know, he's a highly skilled monster. I was talking
[1:17:06] Speaker 4: about him the way we talk about Wimby now, coming
[1:17:08] Speaker 4: out of Kansas. And they said, well, he's got back
[1:17:14] Speaker 4: and foot issues, which for big people, obviously the foot
[1:17:17] Speaker 4: is really scary. And yet, I just said, I'm closing
[1:17:22] Speaker 4: my eyes. I'm plunging on him. He's just too good.
[1:17:25] Speaker 4: And I think he'll be even better in your league because–
[1:17:29] Speaker 4: somehow when they get away from Bill Self, they just
[1:17:31] Speaker 4: sort of blossom, and it's a whole new brand of
[1:17:33] Speaker 4: basketball where you can kind of be you. So I
[1:17:38] Speaker 4: know I signed off for what that was worth at
[1:17:40] Speaker 4: that point, but the irony is it wasn't the feet
[1:17:44] Speaker 4: and the back. It's knees and everything else. So it's
[1:17:49] Speaker 4: just always something with Joel where has he been worth
[1:17:53] Speaker 4: the money? Well, they don't. It's like Daryl Morey. What
[1:17:56] Speaker 4: do you have to show for it? What exactly do
[1:17:59] Speaker 4: you have to show for it after all these years?
[1:18:01] Speaker 7: MVP scoring.
[1:18:03] Speaker 4: You have an MVP.
[1:18:03] Speaker 7: The same thing that James Harden was.
[1:18:05] Speaker 4: That's true. That's exactly what you have to show. And
[1:18:09] Speaker 4: it doesn't matter. It doesn't last. It doesn't resonate.
[1:18:14] Speaker 1: So.
[1:18:15] Speaker 4: It was a success because both my knees were pretty
[1:18:18] Speaker 4: good this year, yet you missed all those games.
[1:18:20] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[1:18:20] Speaker 3: Playing 38 games is not a success. You're playing with people, Joey.
[1:18:25] Speaker 3: You're playing with people. You're playing with people. You're playing
[1:18:27] Speaker 3: with the fans. To Skip's point, you're playing with the
[1:18:29] Speaker 3: fans of Philadelphia. You're playing with people who watch this
[1:18:34] Speaker 3: in real time. 38 games, there's nothing successful about that.
[1:18:40] Speaker 3: It should just set out. but you didn't, so now
[1:18:46] Speaker 3: we're here, right? So this is, is where the rubber
[1:18:52] Speaker 3: has already met the road. What do you do now, right?
[1:19:00] Speaker 3: I think this is a five-month thing to see how
[1:19:04] Speaker 3: he looks, man, at the beginning of the season. It's
[1:19:07] Speaker 3: five months. How is he going to approach this? getting
[1:19:13] Speaker 3: his weight down, getting in better cardiovascular shape, all of
[1:19:16] Speaker 3: those things to lead up to maybe, I'm saying, the
[1:19:20] Speaker 3: start of next season. And that's the look in the mirror, right?
[1:19:26] Speaker 3: You have to go above and beyond at this particular
[1:19:29] Speaker 3: point to further your career because what we saw of you,
[1:19:35] Speaker 3: it's winding down, dog.
[1:19:40] Speaker 5: It is.
[1:19:41] Speaker 7: And it shouldn't be.
[1:19:41] Speaker 3: It shouldn't be, but I don't want to tell you
[1:19:43] Speaker 3: to retire, but that's the way it's looking. So if
[1:19:46] Speaker 3: you're not going to do something in the next five
[1:19:48] Speaker 3: months to change everything so you can play more games
[1:19:52] Speaker 3: next season than you have in the previous three years, yeah,
[1:19:57] Speaker 3: it's time to hang it up then. If you're not
[1:19:59] Speaker 3: going to do everything in your power to get your
[1:20:02] Speaker 3: body together in the next five months, you don't care enough.
[1:20:09] Speaker 3: And that will be what I will take from it
[1:20:12] Speaker 3: if I'm in the Philadelphia 76ers. Come October, if Joel
[1:20:15] Speaker 3: Embiid is no better today, then than he is today,
[1:20:19] Speaker 3: or 75% or whatever, then you're not taking this serious enough,
[1:20:24] Speaker 3: and this is definitely time to move on. Time for
[1:20:26] Speaker 3: you to hang it up, bro.
[1:20:28] Speaker 2: I felt like it was time to move on when
[1:20:29] Speaker 2: he went to the Olympics. When he had a summer
[1:20:32] Speaker 2: to get his body together and get really ready for
[1:20:34] Speaker 2: the next season. He was so focused on being on
[1:20:37] Speaker 2: the USA team, which I'll be honest with you, that
[1:20:39] Speaker 2: gold medal shit don't mean too much of nothing.
[1:20:41] Speaker 1: For America?
[1:20:42] Speaker 2: No, I mean, no, I get it, but let's talk about,
[1:20:46] Speaker 2: I mean, I mean, I mean, yes, listen, I mean,
[1:20:48] Speaker 2: so you can get a gold medal in 2028. I mean,
[1:20:52] Speaker 2: or whenever. I just felt like it was selfish of
[1:20:54] Speaker 2: him to go out there and play in that when
[1:20:55] Speaker 2: your team needs you and you've been talking about the process,
[1:20:58] Speaker 2: you're making $ 58 million a year and you're only playing 30%
[1:21:02] Speaker 2: of the season. We can barely get you. So, I
[1:21:05] Speaker 2: feel like that's where it started. I feel like that's
[1:21:07] Speaker 2: when the writing was on the wall, and they should
[1:21:09] Speaker 2: have known then, like, this guy ain't serious. Like, playing
[1:21:12] Speaker 2: out there didn't prove anything. You could have took that
[1:21:15] Speaker 2: whole year to lose weight and get yourself back together,
[1:21:18] Speaker 2: and everything would have fell into place to me.
[1:21:20] Speaker 3: I feel like that.
[1:21:21] Speaker 1: Played 39 games in that 23-24 season.
[1:21:23] Speaker 3: I'm with you. I said the same thing, right? When
[1:21:25] Speaker 3: he said he was playing, we sat on his couch
[1:21:27] Speaker 3: and said, listen, that's a mistake, right? Go sit down somewhere.
[1:21:30] Speaker 3: What is it for?
[1:21:31] Speaker 2: Don't mean nothing.
[1:21:32] Speaker 5: So played 39 games in that– 23-24 season, went to
[1:21:34] Speaker 5: the Olympics, came back the following season, 19 games.
[1:21:37] Speaker 6: 19 games.
[1:21:38] Speaker 1: This season, 38 games.
[1:21:39] Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
[1:21:40] Speaker 1: Yeah. Available for some of the players.
[1:21:43] Speaker 2: And that USA, that's high-level basketball, too. Like, you're playing
[1:21:46] Speaker 2: against the best, how many people, 12? 12, 15 people?
[1:21:49] Speaker 2: That's 15 of the best ever. So that ain't no,
[1:21:53] Speaker 2: it ain't slowing down there.
[1:21:54] Speaker 3: Yeah, like I said, then.
[1:21:57] Speaker 3: If it was Dale Morey, if it was Nick Nurse,
[1:21:59] Speaker 3: if it was Eldon Brand, whoever it was, the owner
[1:22:01] Speaker 3: of the Philadelphia 76ers at the time, whoever it was
[1:22:04] Speaker 3: at the time that you're speaking of, they should have
[1:22:08] Speaker 3: stopped it. They could have stopped it.
[1:22:12] Speaker 2: Just like they can stop everybody else from playing today.
[1:22:15] Speaker 3: They can control that narrative, man. With that situation, you're
[1:22:21] Speaker 3: under contract with us. You're not under contract with USA Basketball.
[1:22:26] Speaker 3: They did it with Edie. Yeah, so.
[1:22:28] Speaker 6: Stopped Edie from going to the Canadian, like with Team Canada.
[1:22:33] Speaker 7: Because he had the, I think it was the foot thing.
[1:22:35] Speaker 3: Yeah, and they was like, no, you're not playing. So
[1:22:39] Speaker 3: that would have been my thing. Listen, you're not playing.
[1:22:43] Speaker 3: This is more important over here, right? This is your job.
[1:22:46] Speaker 3: This is your livelihood. The Olympics is a.
[1:22:50] Speaker 2: It's a dream come true.
[1:22:51] Speaker 1: It's a privilege.
[1:22:52] Speaker 2: It's a privilege.
[1:22:52] Speaker 7: It's an elective. It's an elective.
[1:22:54] Speaker 3: It's an elective.
[1:22:56] Speaker 7: Extracurricular.
[1:22:57] Speaker 3: Extracurricular activity, right? With a good perk to it. Absolutely.
[1:23:00] Speaker 1: Great perk. Win a guaranteed championship, though, I'm just saying. What?
[1:23:03] Speaker 1: Win a gold medal.
[1:23:03] Speaker 3: It wasn't guaranteed, though. But for the Olympics. No, it's a...
[1:23:07] Speaker 3: How did he plan that, though? Come on, just to
[1:23:09] Speaker 3: go out there.
[1:23:10] Speaker 2: They didn't need him to win.
[1:23:11] Speaker 3: It was group project.
[1:23:13] Speaker 2: Listen, they didn't need him to win. They were the one.
[1:23:16] Speaker 1: They didn't need him.
[1:23:16] Speaker 3: They played 19 games. So the detriment was he played
[1:23:20] Speaker 3: 19 games the next season. So you went out for
[1:23:23] Speaker 3: an Olympic gold medal, and your job, you go out
[1:23:26] Speaker 3: and play 19 games. I have a problem with that.
[1:23:28] Speaker 2: Over your career?
[1:23:29] Speaker 7: I'm an Olympian.
[1:23:30] Speaker 2: That's cool.
[1:23:31] Speaker 1: Cool.
[1:23:31] Speaker 7: That's cool.
[1:23:32] Speaker 2: A lot of people are.
[1:23:33] Speaker 1: The Olympics used to mean something.
[1:23:35] Speaker 7: It used to mean something.
[1:23:37] Speaker 3: I'm just kidding. You get your, like, to Brandon's point.
[1:23:38] Speaker 2: You can't bring that to the table, though.
[1:23:39] Speaker 3: To Brandon's point, you get your body together and all that.
[1:23:41] Speaker 3: You could have. And 28.
[1:23:43] Speaker 1: 28.
[1:23:44] Speaker 2: So you could have been on a run. We could
[1:23:45] Speaker 2: have been making runs right here.
[1:23:48] Speaker 3: That's all.
[1:23:49] Speaker 2: You could have had another MVP and more.
[1:23:51] Speaker 3: Now all of it is in jeopardy. Your career, the
[1:23:55] Speaker 3: next Olympics, all of it is in jeopardy.
[1:23:57] Speaker 2: Oh, the next Olympics. No, it ain't happening.
[1:24:00] Speaker 3: If he was healthy, yes. But now all of it
[1:24:02] Speaker 3: is in jeopardy. Your career is definitely in the balance.
[1:24:10] Speaker 5: Let's keep this moving. We'll head back over to the West,
[1:24:16] Speaker 5: particularly Los Angeles. Lakers season came to an unfortunate end
[1:24:21] Speaker 5: Monday after getting swept by the defending champion Thunder.
[1:24:26] Speaker 1: We remember.
[1:24:27] Speaker 3: Cheer up.
[1:24:29] Speaker 6: Put some spunk in that fucking voice when you're talking
[1:24:32] Speaker 6: on the Lakers.
[1:24:32] Speaker 3: Cheer up.
[1:24:34] Speaker 5: Lakers have some tough decisions to make this summer with
[1:24:37] Speaker 5: several free agents, most notably LeBron and Austin Reeves. Reeves
[1:24:40] Speaker 5: is expected to opt out of the final year of
[1:24:42] Speaker 5: his deal this summer, eligible for a five-year, $ 241 million
[1:24:47] Speaker 5: max contract. The team is currently slated to have around
[1:24:50] Speaker 5: $ 50 million in cap space. So Rob Palenka and J.J.
[1:24:54] Speaker 5: Redick met with the media on Tuesday. Palenka offered these
[1:24:57] Speaker 5: thoughts on the future of the Lakers.
[1:25:00] Speaker 12: The archetype of the roster that we want is going
[1:25:03] Speaker 12: to be retrofitted around Luka.
[1:25:05] Speaker 1: And the things he needs.
[1:25:07] Speaker 12: And clearly he's that leader and player for the future
[1:25:11] Speaker 12: that we want to build the right way around.
[1:25:13] Speaker 5: The archetype of the roster moving forward, that was a
[1:25:16] Speaker 5: part of their sales pitch to get Luka to sign
[1:25:18] Speaker 5: that extension. Last summer, we're going to build this team
[1:25:21] Speaker 5: around you, get him something similar to what he had
[1:25:23] Speaker 5: with the Mavs, some rim owners like Gafford, Derek Lively,
[1:25:29] Speaker 5: some shooters.
[1:25:30] Speaker 1: Sounds great.
[1:25:31] Speaker 5: But Sean, when you hear all that heading into the summer,
[1:25:33] Speaker 5: like I said, tough decisions to be made. They do
[1:25:35] Speaker 5: have bread to make moves to build. Do have a
[1:25:39] Speaker 5: draft pick. I think two other draft picks available to
[1:25:42] Speaker 5: move and trade.
[1:25:42] Speaker 1: Where do the Lakers go from here?
[1:25:45] Speaker 6: They don't go the Gaffer and Lively route. That's like
[1:25:47] Speaker 6: having Aiden and the goddamn Jackson Hayes. I'm just saying,
[1:25:51] Speaker 6: those type of, you know, rim runners, guys.
[1:25:53] Speaker 3: Give me them other two all day. I don't know, man.
[1:25:58] Speaker 6: I think, um, Searching for the nostalgia that the Lakers
[1:26:05] Speaker 6: are used to when you talk about stories, storylines, what
[1:26:11] Speaker 6: the people are coming to see.
[1:26:13] Speaker 7: Luka is a fan favorite. He's a blockbuster player.
[1:26:19] Speaker 6: But the Lakers franchise is used to winning, and they
[1:26:23] Speaker 6: haven't been accustomed to that in the last.
[1:26:26] Speaker 7: Seven, six, seven, eight years. Up for debate.
[1:26:32] Speaker 1: Yeah. 2020.
[1:26:33] Speaker 6: So when you talk about just the fans, like seeing
[1:26:35] Speaker 6: the parade, feeling the energy.
[1:26:37] Speaker 2: Outside of the Dodgers.
[1:26:40] Speaker 6: Doing what they do, I think the Lakers owe it
[1:26:42] Speaker 6: to the fans to make the right decisions, not just
[1:26:46] Speaker 6: by Luka, but by the history, the history of the
[1:26:51] Speaker 6: players who have to continue to speak on the game,
[1:26:53] Speaker 6: the Byron Scots and the James Worthys and all the
[1:26:56] Speaker 6: guys who commentate, looking, watching the game, Shaquille O'Neal's. It's
[1:27:01] Speaker 6: an expectation. It's a legacy. So you would expect that
[1:27:06] Speaker 6: they would make some real big-time decisions. And I'm thinking
[1:27:10] Speaker 6: retaining guys like a Lively or a Gaffer is going
[1:27:13] Speaker 6: to be a different type of an approach. I think
[1:27:14] Speaker 6: they should go outside of the ordinary and go for
[1:27:17] Speaker 6: somebody bigger like a Giannis or Carl Anthony Towns or
[1:27:28] Speaker 6: maybe even, I mean.
[1:27:33] Speaker 6: I don't want to say it and make it seem
[1:27:35] Speaker 6: like it's going to be helpful, but Joel Embiid could be.
[1:27:39] Speaker 7: Dope in LA.
[1:27:40] Speaker 2: I like Jason Tatum.
[1:27:44] Speaker 6: I'm just saying as far as a big, biggest concern,
[1:27:46] Speaker 6: a big body that can rebound and do some things
[1:27:48] Speaker 6: for you. But outside of that, you could definitely need
[1:27:51] Speaker 6: somebody who's going to bring the fans and give fans
[1:27:53] Speaker 6: confidence that you can go to the NBA finals.
[1:27:56] Speaker 7: You can win it.
[1:27:57] Speaker 6: And I think outside of having Luka, if you don't
[1:28:00] Speaker 6: retain A.R., and you have to get off the LeBron
[1:28:04] Speaker 6: James boat, I don't know if Rob Pelinka can make
[1:28:09] Speaker 6: those decisions to build a championship squad. I don't know
[1:28:12] Speaker 6: if he's capable of that. I don't even know if
[1:28:14] Speaker 6: the market is ready for those type of decisions. If
[1:28:18] Speaker 6: a Giannis doesn't readily want to come to LA, what
[1:28:22] Speaker 6: players outside of him that you got to shuffle around
[1:28:25] Speaker 6: and say, we can win a championship with these guys
[1:28:27] Speaker 6: and Luka?
[1:28:29] Speaker 5: Sure, those championship aspirations would be much more beneficial and
[1:28:33] Speaker 5: helpful if Luka was actually playing as well. So that's...
[1:28:37] Speaker 5: We want to build this roster around Luka. That sounds great.
[1:28:39] Speaker 5: You got to be healthy.
[1:28:40] Speaker 1: Is he going to.
[1:28:41] Speaker 3: Yes. For the full season.
[1:28:43] Speaker 1: He could be.
[1:28:43] Speaker 3: Get him out of here.
[1:28:45] Speaker 7: Do you get him out of here? Get Luka up
[1:28:47] Speaker 7: out of here?
[1:28:47] Speaker 3: I don't think you can, but.
[1:28:50] Speaker 1: Not even saying that, but.
[1:28:52] Speaker 3: Get Luka up out of there?
[1:28:53] Speaker 1: For who?
[1:28:55] Speaker 2: I like Jason Tatum. He's more of a star, and
[1:28:59] Speaker 2: he fits L.A.
[1:29:01] Speaker 7: The same Jason Tatum that can't play with Jason Brown?
[1:29:05] Speaker 7: That's fine.
[1:29:06] Speaker 2: That's Boston. But Jason Tatum in the Lakers uniform is different.
[1:29:09] Speaker 2: With his star power, that's just me, though. I mean,
[1:29:17] Speaker 2: but I'm keeping Bron in AR, but I don't know
[1:29:19] Speaker 2: if I'm giving AR the max, and then I got
[1:29:21] Speaker 2: to see what Bron will take to be a third option.
[1:29:25] Speaker 2: But the Lakers have to get a bench. I mean,
[1:29:28] Speaker 2: that's what they're going to be used for. So they
[1:29:31] Speaker 2: have to get a bench regardless. I don't see the
[1:29:33] Speaker 2: Lakers getting Giannis.
[1:29:34] Speaker 3: I think they let A.R.
[1:29:35] Speaker 6: Walk.
[1:29:37] Speaker 3: I think they let him go test the market and
[1:29:39] Speaker 3: see what he's going to get. And if he get
[1:29:41] Speaker 3: what he's looking for, I think they let him take
[1:29:43] Speaker 3: it and they build that roster.
[1:29:44] Speaker 1: But for nothing.
[1:29:45] Speaker 5: Once he opts out and becomes a free agent, there
[1:29:49] Speaker 5: is a sign and trade avenue where you can at
[1:29:50] Speaker 5: least get something in return for him.
[1:29:51] Speaker 3: For what?
[1:29:54] Speaker 5: Limited market out there with teams with cap space.
[1:29:56] Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. So let him go see what
[1:29:57] Speaker 3: he's going to get. Right? Who, Bron?
[1:29:59] Speaker 1: No, A.R. Oh, A.R. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:30:01] Speaker 2: I mean, if I'm going to take that chance.
[1:30:02] Speaker 7: I'm letting him test the mark. Hell yeah, hell yeah.
[1:30:05] Speaker 3: Absolutely.
[1:30:05] Speaker 1: Hell yeah.
[1:30:05] Speaker 2: Go ahead.
[1:30:06] Speaker 7: Well, you can do the sign and trade.
[1:30:08] Speaker 2: I'm letting him test the mark.
[1:30:08] Speaker 7: Bro, listen, go ahead.
[1:30:09] Speaker 1: Bro, go ahead.
[1:30:10] Speaker 2: At this point, go ahead. We're the Lakers.
[1:30:12] Speaker 3: Because unless I'm getting Giannis back or Nikola or somebody
[1:30:16] Speaker 3: like that, it ain't. Who else can play with Luka, right?
[1:30:20] Speaker 7: Caleb Wilson.
[1:30:22] Speaker 2: But who are you going to give up for Giannis
[1:30:24] Speaker 2: with the Lakers?
[1:30:25] Speaker 5: And I think Luka said, I think, to people around
[1:30:28] Speaker 5: the Lakers that he wants to keep Reeves. Didn't want
[1:30:30] Speaker 5: Reeves included in a potential Giannis trade.
[1:30:32] Speaker 2: Like, Giannis wouldn't. Like, if I'm anything, I'm.
[1:30:35] Speaker 3: Yeah, if it ain't nobody like that. Yeah, if it
[1:30:37] Speaker 3: ain't nobody like that, the sign and trade to me
[1:30:39] Speaker 3: don't make sense.
[1:30:41] Speaker 7: Multiple pieces, though.
[1:30:42] Speaker 3: You got to be the right. You got to be
[1:30:44] Speaker 3: the right. Because they are trying to structure the roster
[1:30:47] Speaker 3: like Dallas did around Luka, right? I need shooters. I
[1:30:50] Speaker 3: need rim protectors. And I need lob threats. And that's
[1:30:53] Speaker 3: what we need, right? We need shooters. We need defenders. Defenders. Shooters.
[1:31:00] Speaker 3: Lob threats. Rebounders. Those are the same. Lob threats and
[1:31:04] Speaker 3: rebounders are one and one. Should be one and one, right?
[1:31:07] Speaker 3: That's what Dallas did. That's how Luka was successful in Dallas.
[1:31:11] Speaker 3: They're going to follow that same recipe, and I don't
[1:31:15] Speaker 3: think AR fits that.
[1:31:16] Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. You need that Kyrie Irving. Or,
[1:31:19] Speaker 2: I mean, shit, they had J. Kidd, too, as their coach.
[1:31:21] Speaker 6: That's a different... But that's a different thing. Kyrie's not
[1:31:24] Speaker 6: comparing them player for player. Not comparing them player for player.
[1:31:28] Speaker 6: As far as like impact. Getting buckets, I can play
[1:31:31] Speaker 6: off the ball. I don't think he's as consistent and
[1:31:34] Speaker 6: dependable as Kyrie was.
[1:31:35] Speaker 7: But as far as doing it.
[1:31:38] Speaker 3: Kyrie don't take bad shots. They are.
[1:31:40] Speaker 2: Kyrie's a great.
[1:31:41] Speaker 3: He don't take bad shots like they are. That's what
[1:31:44] Speaker 3: I'm saying.
[1:31:44] Speaker 2: If you're building this team, you're going to have to
[1:31:46] Speaker 2: do something. You have to bring like a Kyrie or
[1:31:48] Speaker 2: something around if you're going to build it like that.
[1:31:50] Speaker 1: Or.
[1:31:52] Speaker 2: Because if not, you're going to get the same thing. Listen,
[1:31:54] Speaker 2: they were scoring less points with Luka. He holds the
[1:31:57] Speaker 2: ball too much. If we want to be honest with you, like, listen,
[1:32:01] Speaker 2: that Dallas team, I mean, thank God Kyrie was there.
[1:32:03] Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
[1:32:05] Speaker 2: Like, you know, it's a lot of shit that's not
[1:32:06] Speaker 2: being told about Luka with the ball.
[1:32:08] Speaker 3: And that's conversations for JJ to have. Like, he holds the.
[1:32:12] Speaker 1: Ball a lot.
[1:32:12] Speaker 2: So that's why I'm like, well, shit, we can get
[1:32:14] Speaker 2: off him.
[1:32:14] Speaker 1: I mean, go get a.
[1:32:15] Speaker 2: Jason gets something else, like, shit. He come in, shoot
[1:32:18] Speaker 2: the three. Like, you know, that shit, we getting shots up.
[1:32:21] Speaker 1: First quarter. First quarter.
[1:32:22] Speaker 3: Conversation that can be had that'll be helpful, right? Unless
[1:32:27] Speaker 3: you need to get off the ball more. Like, you
[1:32:28] Speaker 3: don't need to. You taking 300 dribbles a night. We
[1:32:31] Speaker 3: don't need you to dribble it 300 times a night.
[1:32:33] Speaker 2: And you got to play defense. I mean, God, you
[1:32:35] Speaker 2: got to give us something.
[1:32:37] Speaker 3: Let's be real. Let's be realistic.
[1:32:39] Speaker 1: No, no, no.
[1:32:40] Speaker 2: It's easier for him to dribble it.
[1:32:44] Speaker 3: Less than 300 times than it is for him to
[1:32:46] Speaker 3: sit down on defense.
[1:32:48] Speaker 5: And he put forth defensive effort this season, so we're
[1:32:51] Speaker 5: not going to lock him in that. But those first quarters,
[1:32:52] Speaker 5: when he's on, very exciting to watch.
[1:32:54] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[1:32:54] Speaker 2: And he's bricking.
[1:32:56] Speaker 3: Josiah, don't play with my fucking intelligence.
[1:32:58] Speaker 1: But, like.
[1:32:58] Speaker 2: Like, wasn't I... Like, see if that's a myth.
[1:33:00] Speaker 6: When Lucas put up 17-20 in the first quarter.
[1:33:02] Speaker 3: Can't hit the door. It's a myth, though, because the
[1:33:04] Speaker 3: truth come out.
[1:33:04] Speaker 1: When he's chucking threes, they're bricking. No, not that.
[1:33:06] Speaker 3: You're talking about he put in the effort on you.
[1:33:08] Speaker 1: You put up.
[1:33:09] Speaker 3: More effort.
[1:33:10] Speaker 1: More effort than.
[1:33:10] Speaker 6: Josiah, don't play with my fucking intelligence on this show.
[1:33:14] Speaker 3: Like, I watch this man constantly not run back on defense, complain,
[1:33:18] Speaker 3: be like.
[1:33:18] Speaker 2: That is just happening.
[1:33:19] Speaker 1: Constantly.
[1:33:19] Speaker 2: Being owed by somebody that's like.
[1:33:21] Speaker 3: More times than not. Because he averaged two steals, two
[1:33:24] Speaker 3: and a half.
[1:33:24] Speaker 2: Steals a game, I don't give a fuck. We don't
[1:33:26] Speaker 2: get past.
[1:33:27] Speaker 3: Like, just because he have two and a half steals
[1:33:29] Speaker 3: don't mean he play defense.
[1:33:32] Speaker 6: But what's the metric of assembling a good team right now?
[1:33:37] Speaker 6: I don't think it's around collecting a bunch of star
[1:33:40] Speaker 6: players anymore. No, it's just... OKC has created a blueprint of.
[1:33:46] Speaker 1: Do his job.
[1:33:48] Speaker 7: Do your fucking job.
[1:33:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, but Bron being your third option is a good look,
[1:33:53] Speaker 2: and then you can find.
[1:33:54] Speaker 3: If Braun comes back, who is he going to be
[1:33:56] Speaker 3: a second option? I mean, third option behind.
[1:33:58] Speaker 2: Well, I mean, if they keep Luka. I mean, and
[1:34:00] Speaker 2: then if AR leaves, somebody's coming.
[1:34:02] Speaker 3: Braun's second option. If AR leaves, Braun is second option.
[1:34:06] Speaker 6: And Braun is only good for that second, third option
[1:34:09] Speaker 6: when the first option is no longer available to do anything.
[1:34:13] Speaker 3: I agree, but if there's no AR for me to.
[1:34:16] Speaker 2: Who are you going to bring in for Braun to
[1:34:17] Speaker 2: be like, You know what?
[1:34:22] Speaker 3: You got it. You got it.
[1:34:25] Speaker 2: Going into year 23, I don't... There's some shit going
[1:34:28] Speaker 2: on over there in Boston that needs to be... If
[1:34:30] Speaker 2: it's a Jason.
[1:34:31] Speaker 3: Tatum or Jalen Brown or Giannis or somebody, if that's the.
[1:34:35] Speaker 1: All-star.
[1:34:36] Speaker 3: One of them kind of a dudes, it's a conversation
[1:34:39] Speaker 3: that can be had.
[1:34:40] Speaker 6: No shade to Austin Reeves, but I know Brian's sitting
[1:34:42] Speaker 6: there like, huh? No, but I'm just saying, when he
[1:34:44] Speaker 6: came back, the way that A.R.
[1:34:46] Speaker 3: And Luka play It had to. It had to.
[1:34:53] Speaker 1: Go that way.
[1:34:54] Speaker 6: The team was standing for the start with LeBron missing
[1:34:55] Speaker 6: those games. So when he came back, it was already established.
[1:34:58] Speaker 1: Falling along.
[1:34:59] Speaker 7: And that was not something he was counting on.
[1:35:01] Speaker 1: No.
[1:35:02] Speaker 7: He was not counting on that.
[1:35:03] Speaker 3: That's my thing. But unless it's somebody like that, I
[1:35:06] Speaker 3: cannot foresee LeBron James being a third option for a
[1:35:09] Speaker 3: team that's not championship caliber right now.
[1:35:13] Speaker 2: I mean, he was this year.
[1:35:14] Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
[1:35:16] Speaker 2: Under a guy who didn't even get his money yet.
[1:35:18] Speaker 3: But my thing, because of how the season started, Right?
[1:35:21] Speaker 6: He was out.
[1:35:24] Speaker 4: Brown was out.
[1:35:25] Speaker 3: This man cooking when you come back.
[1:35:26] Speaker 2: Right. So if they don't have AR, they're going to
[1:35:30] Speaker 2: get a number two that can score way more points
[1:35:32] Speaker 2: than Brown. Brown's not going to go up to 25, 28.
[1:35:38] Speaker 1: It is.
[1:35:38] Speaker 2: No, but it is, though, with Luka, because you need
[1:35:40] Speaker 2: somebody to get Luka to hold the ball.
[1:35:41] Speaker 7: And he can't be relied upon and staying healthy.
[1:35:44] Speaker 1: Yes.
[1:35:45] Speaker 3: So that's why I'm looking.
[1:35:46] Speaker 7: Like, shit.
[1:35:47] Speaker 2: I mean, what's y'all talking about, man, like over there?
[1:35:50] Speaker 2: They going to play together or not?
[1:35:51] Speaker 1: Skip, will you look at the situation? Yeah.
[1:35:55] Speaker 4: I'm with Mr. B on this one. The biggest Laker
[1:35:59] Speaker 4: issue is Luka Doncic. And I realize he's great box office.
[1:36:06] Speaker 4: And I realize he's Hollywood. And I realize in the
[1:36:10] Speaker 4: first quarter when he scores 25 and he's hot, it's
[1:36:14] Speaker 4: fun to watch. But the God's truth is the Los
[1:36:19] Speaker 4: Angeles Lakers were a little better basketball team on both
[1:36:24] Speaker 4: ends of the floor down the stretch without Luka. And
[1:36:29] Speaker 4: you shouldn't overreact to what just happened. I realize they
[1:36:32] Speaker 4: got swept, but they got swept by a freaking juggernaut
[1:36:37] Speaker 4: where all of a sudden for the Thunder, AJ Mitchell
[1:36:40] Speaker 4: is coming from nowhere. He's looking, he's got some star
[1:36:42] Speaker 4: quality to him and he's getting 20, 24, 26. And
[1:36:48] Speaker 4: you mentioned Jared McCain, he's coming in and just stroking
[1:36:50] Speaker 4: threes like he belongs there. And yet, All four games
[1:36:56] Speaker 4: were very competitive, and especially the fourth game. They showed
[1:37:00] Speaker 4: me something. You're Lakers. With Marcus Bart, former defensive player
[1:37:06] Speaker 4: of the year, that looked right. Rui looked right to
[1:37:09] Speaker 4: me on both ends of the floor. Jackson Hayes showed
[1:37:13] Speaker 4: me something because he can just jump out of the
[1:37:16] Speaker 4: gym at seven feet tall, and he gives you high energy.
[1:37:19] Speaker 4: I know he's not great, and he's not a wimpy Embiid, but...
[1:37:23] Speaker 4: I'm just saying I saw pieces to the puzzle that fit,
[1:37:28] Speaker 4: and you lose perspective because of your opponent. They're making
[1:37:32] Speaker 4: you look like, oh, my God, get them all out
[1:37:35] Speaker 4: of my sight, when you shouldn't get them all out
[1:37:38] Speaker 4: of your sight. Now, am I allowed to talk about
[1:37:41] Speaker 4: LeBron on this show? Is it okay?
[1:37:44] Speaker 1: Can we approve that? We have cleared that with the
[1:37:46] Speaker 1: powers that be.
[1:37:47] Speaker 3: Have you?
[1:37:47] Speaker 1: Okay.
[1:37:48] Speaker 2: Hold on.
[1:37:48] Speaker 1: We've got to make a call.
[1:37:49] Speaker 3: We've got to clear it.
[1:37:50] Speaker 1: Did you? We've got to clear it.
[1:37:51] Speaker 4: Top, top, right?
[1:37:52] Speaker 6: Top, top. Went to have a silver, heard from one
[1:37:54] Speaker 6: of his underlings.
[1:37:55] Speaker 7: You're cleared, Skip.
[1:37:57] Speaker 1: Go ahead.
[1:37:57] Speaker 7: Take off.
[1:37:58] Speaker 4: Okay, so now I'm hearing maybe LeBron would consider taking
[1:38:03] Speaker 4: the veteran minimum to stay in Los Angeles. I'm like,
[1:38:08] Speaker 4: why didn't he take it eight years ago? Seriously. Because
[1:38:13] Speaker 4: I'm looking at the money he has made as a Laker.
[1:38:16] Speaker 4: It's $ 347 million, and it just goes up. I'm looking
[1:38:20] Speaker 4: at them, 36, 37, 39, 41, 44, 48, 49, 53
[1:38:21] Speaker 4: million this year.
[1:38:21] Speaker 3: Very reasonable.
[1:38:22] Speaker 4: It's a lot of money, Very. And he is the
[1:38:30] Speaker 4: ultimate box office. Hollywood as you can get. I got you.
[1:38:34] Speaker 4: But he gave you an overall playoff record, if in
[1:38:37] Speaker 4: fact it's over now, of 32 and 31 in his
[1:38:41] Speaker 4: eight years. 32 and 31. And since that Mickey Mouse
[1:38:45] Speaker 4: championship that they won in the bubble.
[1:38:47] Speaker 1: Hardest one in NBA history.
[1:38:48] Speaker 3: I thought they were.
[1:38:49] Speaker 1: What's that Disney world?
[1:38:51] Speaker 4: Yeah, 16-26 is LeBron's playoff record since the bubble. 16-26,
[1:38:56] Speaker 4: that is the worst playoff winning percentage in all of
[1:39:00] Speaker 4: basketball since the bubble 2020. So, yeah, he shockingly to
[1:39:07] Speaker 4: me did accept third wheel role that became second wheel
[1:39:11] Speaker 4: when Luka went down. And I like the way he
[1:39:14] Speaker 4: played down the stretch and I like the way he
[1:39:17] Speaker 4: played against Houston, albeit without Kevin Durant, who didn't even
[1:39:22] Speaker 4: play when he played. And the one game that he
[1:39:24] Speaker 4: did play, he didn't play in the second half. I
[1:39:26] Speaker 4: don't know what happened. But it was just like, here,
[1:39:28] Speaker 4: you can have this one.
[1:39:29] Speaker 3: Right.
[1:39:32] Speaker 4: And I liked the hell out of the way he
[1:39:34] Speaker 4: played against Oklahoma City because he brought it every night
[1:39:39] Speaker 4: on both ends at 41, age 23.
[1:39:41] Speaker 1: It was.
[1:39:44] Speaker 4: It was a spectacular showing, even though he did take
[1:39:47] Speaker 4: the shot that mattered the most with 20 seconds left
[1:39:49] Speaker 4: in the closeout game. And he got a little half
[1:39:52] Speaker 4: step on Caruso. And then I think he just didn't
[1:39:55] Speaker 4: want to have to shoot those free throws.
[1:39:58] Speaker 2: I just think.
[1:39:59] Speaker 3: I knew you was going to get this.
[1:40:00] Speaker 4: I know. He just shies. Like, I'm going to shy
[1:40:04] Speaker 4: over here. Please don't blow.
[1:40:05] Speaker 2: Don't blow.
[1:40:06] Speaker 4: Don't blow it. I'm going to shoot it way up
[1:40:09] Speaker 4: off the glass and it's going to miss badly.
[1:40:11] Speaker 1: All right.
[1:40:11] Speaker 4: So is that the end of his career?
[1:40:13] Speaker 3: Okay.
[1:40:14] Speaker 4: That's just me. You ask.
[1:40:17] Speaker 1: Okay.
[1:40:18] Speaker 4: So. The point is, would you want him back in
[1:40:23] Speaker 4: that role if he would take the veteran minimum?
[1:40:26] Speaker 1: Yeah, I would.
[1:40:28] Speaker 4: And I do believe they have him by the eyeballs
[1:40:31] Speaker 4: right now because he's born to play in L.A., Hollywood,
[1:40:36] Speaker 4: his whole second career is going to be in Hollywood.
[1:40:38] Speaker 4: And now we know the golf bug, and it bit him.
[1:40:41] Speaker 4: The golf bug bit him bad.
[1:40:43] Speaker 5: Yep.
[1:40:43] Speaker 4: And he wants to be in tropical Hollywood, 365. You know,
[1:40:47] Speaker 4: he didn't want to have to play a winner in
[1:40:50] Speaker 4: Cleveland or New York or wherever it's going to be.
[1:40:53] Speaker 4: And they know that, and he knows that. So would
[1:40:57] Speaker 4: they want him back for the bottom of the barrel
[1:41:00] Speaker 4: salary for once? The way Tom Brady used to... Tom
[1:41:03] Speaker 4: Brady played 20 years in New England and made an
[1:41:05] Speaker 4: average of $ 12 million. I know he's a six-round draft pick,
[1:41:08] Speaker 4: but come on, man.
[1:41:09] Speaker 1: He was.
[1:41:10] Speaker 4: Big hometown discount. Tim Duncan, go look at Tim's last
[1:41:14] Speaker 4: five years.
[1:41:14] Speaker 1: As a Spur.
[1:41:15] Speaker 4: He's taken chicken feed from the Spurs because he wanted
[1:41:18] Speaker 4: a bench. And did he not have a bench against
[1:41:22] Speaker 4: LeBron in the heat, especially in 2014 after the big
[1:41:26] Speaker 4: 2013 disaster and the Ray Allen shot?
[1:41:28] Speaker 3: Go look at what.
[1:41:30] Speaker 4: the Spurs bench did to the heat in, in a
[1:41:33] Speaker 4: five game series that they won by a record finals
[1:41:36] Speaker 4: margin because Patty Mills and company are coming in off
[1:41:40] Speaker 4: the bench, just raining threes because they go 12 deep.
[1:41:44] Speaker 4: The Thunder go 15 deep. They, they seriously do. They
[1:41:47] Speaker 4: go 15 deep. So that's how you, I don't know
[1:41:52] Speaker 4: if Rob's, I like Rob, but, but I don't know.
[1:41:54] Speaker 4: He hadn't shown me enough to, to put more to,
[1:41:57] Speaker 4: to all your points. It, If you did, okay, to me,
[1:42:01] Speaker 4: here's the problem with Luca. To your point, he led
[1:42:06] Speaker 4: the league in usage rate by far. It wasn't even close.
[1:42:09] Speaker 4: It's 38%. And if you compute that, that means 38%
[1:42:12] Speaker 4: of the time he's doing that. Back and down, back
[1:42:17] Speaker 4: and down, back and down.
[1:42:20] Speaker 1: No, seriously.
[1:42:20] Speaker 2: Am I right?
[1:42:22] Speaker 4: And then he led the league in shot attempts. He
[1:42:26] Speaker 4: led the league in three-point attempts. And he led the
[1:42:29] Speaker 4: league in free throws. While being, I'm going to be
[1:42:32] Speaker 4: nice about this, being an average at best three-point shooter
[1:42:36] Speaker 4: and free throw shooter. And you can see he had
[1:42:40] Speaker 4: a little hot streak with Kyrie alongside for the Mavericks.
[1:42:43] Speaker 4: And they did get past the Thunder and it went
[1:42:45] Speaker 4: to the wire. And then they did get past Gobert
[1:42:48] Speaker 4: and company and Luka made a big three over Gobert.
[1:42:51] Speaker 4: And they get to Boston in the finals and what happened?
[1:42:55] Speaker 4: Luka Doncic goes 11 for 45 from three. That's 24%
[1:43:00] Speaker 4: in the finals. And they go down in five games
[1:43:02] Speaker 4: because you've sat there. You know, you love him. How
[1:43:08] Speaker 4: many nights are you like, oh, Luka, no, no, not again.
[1:43:11] Speaker 4: And he can take the home crowd completely out of
[1:43:14] Speaker 4: games when he goes two for 11 from three. And
[1:43:16] Speaker 4: there's a bunch of them. And then he gets to
[1:43:20] Speaker 4: the free throw line more than Shea does, the free
[1:43:23] Speaker 4: throw merchant, right?
[1:43:24] Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
[1:43:25] Speaker 4: He gets the free throw line the most in the
[1:43:27] Speaker 4: league and he shoots 75%. You know, it's not good enough.
[1:43:33] Speaker 4: If you're that guy, you guys know this, you got
[1:43:36] Speaker 4: to make 85. You know, you got to be, Jordan's 84,
[1:43:40] Speaker 4: Kobe's in that range, Magic's up 90, KD's up at 90.
[1:43:44] Speaker 4: You just got to, they're called free throws for a
[1:43:47] Speaker 4: reason because they're free and he just doesn't make enough.
[1:43:51] Speaker 4: to be that man right that that if you're going
[1:43:54] Speaker 4: to build the whole show around him it's it's a
[1:43:56] Speaker 4: Hollywood show but it is hard to win with Luka
[1:44:00] Speaker 4: Doncic it just is I'm talking about winning big it's
[1:44:03] Speaker 4: hard to win when when you just say green light
[1:44:06] Speaker 4: you it's all you and how many times did I
[1:44:09] Speaker 4: watch them and they're the other four just standing around
[1:44:11] Speaker 4: watching him because what else can you do And the
[1:44:15] Speaker 4: Lakers against the Thunder moved the basketball like crazy. And
[1:44:19] Speaker 4: it was fun for me because I love your sport.
[1:44:22] Speaker 4: You know, I just love the purity of it when
[1:44:24] Speaker 4: it's played the right way. They were definitely moving the
[1:44:27] Speaker 4: ball and playing the right way. It was just fun.
[1:44:30] Speaker 4: The ball's just moving and people are getting, Rui's getting threes.
[1:44:34] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[1:44:34] Speaker 4: You know, okay.
[1:44:36] Speaker 7: Do you move a little bit?
[1:44:37] Speaker 3: When the main guy passes.
[1:44:38] Speaker 7: Bro, listen.
[1:44:39] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[1:44:40] Speaker 2: Listen, he can be in that question mark. I know
[1:44:42] Speaker 2: this is a Giannis summer this year because, you know,
[1:44:44] Speaker 2: everybody want to know where Giannis is going. But listen, man,
[1:44:46] Speaker 2: I'm going to see what I can get for Luka, too.
[1:44:48] Speaker 3: I would, too.
[1:44:49] Speaker 2: Like, I'm sorry, bro. Bro, listen, Bron can take the–
[1:44:52] Speaker 2: You know how crazy that sounds? No, it don't sound
[1:44:55] Speaker 2: crazy at all. Listen, Bron can take the minimum. We
[1:44:58] Speaker 2: can figure out what AR– if they both want to go, bro,
[1:45:00] Speaker 2: you know what we can get? The Lakers can get.
[1:45:03] Speaker 7: What can they get?
[1:45:04] Speaker 2: They can get whatever they want. It's the Los Angeles Lakers. Yeah.
[1:45:07] Speaker 2: is what I'm saying is, and Boston is a little
[1:45:09] Speaker 2: tricky over there with them, too. But I like your
[1:45:12] Speaker 2: Jalen Brown. I'm not trying to break, but listen, man. Listen,
[1:45:15] Speaker 2: Jalen Brown, he showed that he could be a number one.
[1:45:18] Speaker 4: Right?
[1:45:18] Speaker 1: Him in L.A.
[1:45:19] Speaker 2: Or Tatum in L.A.
[1:45:20] Speaker 1: Either one.
[1:45:21] Speaker 2: I'm taking either one. But what I'm saying is, I
[1:45:24] Speaker 2: can build with getting, I'm telling you, we have a better,
[1:45:26] Speaker 2: the Lakers have a better chance of getting to the
[1:45:28] Speaker 2: championship if they try to move on Luka.
[1:45:30] Speaker 7: He holds the ball too much.
[1:45:31] Speaker 6: Who's a bigger, better prospect than Luka Doncic for the
[1:45:35] Speaker 6: Los Angeles Lakers?
[1:45:36] Speaker 2: I mean, Giannis.
[1:45:37] Speaker 1: The Greek?
[1:45:38] Speaker 2: I mean, Yannis. I mean, sit, Jokic. I mean, you know,
[1:45:42] Speaker 2: we can figure it out.
[1:45:43] Speaker 1: Only one, yeah, man.
[1:45:44] Speaker 7: That's tough.
[1:45:46] Speaker 1: That's Yannis.
[1:45:47] Speaker 7: Yannis is probably the only one.
[1:45:48] Speaker 1: We do have a great Greek.
[1:45:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, but if I'm the Bucs, though, I mean, but
[1:45:52] Speaker 2: if I'm the Bucs, I mean, do I trade Yannis
[1:45:55] Speaker 2: to L.A. or do I try to go get the
[1:45:57] Speaker 2: number one pick for Yannis?
[1:45:59] Speaker 1: From the Wizards?
[1:45:59] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:46:00] Speaker 2: Like, you know what I'm saying? I'm just, like, do
[1:46:02] Speaker 2: I just go for Luka or do I just try
[1:46:04] Speaker 2: to go get the number one pick and go Yannis?
[1:46:05] Speaker 7: Luka not playing in Milwaukee.
[1:46:07] Speaker 2: That's fine, but you got a number one pick. You
[1:46:09] Speaker 2: got the hottest dude right now in the summer, Giannis, right?
[1:46:12] Speaker 2: For the Bucks. I mean, we can go trade up
[1:46:14] Speaker 2: for the number one pick and try to get Youngboy.
[1:46:17] Speaker 1: We ain't doing that.
[1:46:20] Speaker 2: For Giannis?
[1:46:23] Speaker 1: Man, listen.
[1:46:24] Speaker 2: The number one pick and AD can go. For Giannis.
[1:46:28] Speaker 2: Is Giannis trying to go to Washington, D.C.? You don't
[1:46:32] Speaker 2: have a no-trade clause. You don't have a no-trade clause.
[1:46:35] Speaker 2: So in business, this is just the Bucs. I mean,
[1:46:37] Speaker 2: I don't say the Bucs is doing it. I'm just saying.
[1:46:39] Speaker 6: We've only got one season left, so you don't got
[1:46:40] Speaker 6: to sign an extension.
[1:46:42] Speaker 2: I got the number one pick, and this young dude, AJ,
[1:46:44] Speaker 2: is coming in. That's hot.
[1:46:45] Speaker 1: Yeah, but if you're the Wizards, then Giannis is not
[1:46:47] Speaker 1: going to stay.
[1:46:49] Speaker 2: I'm not giving up the number one pick for our future.
[1:46:51] Speaker 3: I'm not giving up the number one pick for our future.
[1:46:53] Speaker 3: I'm not giving it up for Giannis. If he's not
[1:46:55] Speaker 3: going to resign here.
[1:46:57] Speaker 2: Then it's... I mean, you can get something for that, too, though.
[1:47:01] Speaker 7: AD don't want to be there either.
[1:47:03] Speaker 2: So I'm just saying there's just stuff out there that's like.
[1:47:07] Speaker 5: So let's shift back to the LeBron front real quick
[1:47:10] Speaker 5: and skip. I know of the eight seasons you read
[1:47:12] Speaker 5: off LeBron's salary. I just want to point out 2018,
[1:47:14] Speaker 5: I think the Lakers' valuation was $ 3. 3 billion.
[1:47:17] Speaker 4: No, I got it.
[1:47:18] Speaker 5: Team sold recently for $ 10 billion. So if I'm LeBron, hey,
[1:47:21] Speaker 5: break bread. Break bread, you got it. Hey, count pocket. Shit,
[1:47:25] Speaker 5: wait a minute.
[1:47:26] Speaker 4: At the expense of your bench, you want to win?
[1:47:29] Speaker 6: Because he just did this where you, yes, you could
[1:47:35] Speaker 6: have done this differently and you would be in a
[1:47:37] Speaker 6: different position right now had you not been selfish for
[1:47:41] Speaker 6: that decision.
[1:47:42] Speaker 3: Yeah, when he signed that extension, we said if he
[1:47:45] Speaker 3: was trying to win, he would have took a pay
[1:47:47] Speaker 3: cut when he signed the extension.
[1:47:49] Speaker 6: But that's on you, Rob. So I just want to
[1:47:51] Speaker 6: quickly link it. It is for Rob to do his job, but.
[1:47:54] Speaker 6: He's handicapped, though. Rob is handicapped by the salary cap, unfortunately.
[1:47:58] Speaker 6: So Palenka had this to say about LeBron's future with
[1:48:00] Speaker 6: the team.
[1:48:02] Speaker 12: I think in terms of LeBron, we probably haven't seen
[1:48:05] Speaker 12: a player that has honored the game to the extent
[1:48:09] Speaker 12: that he's honored the game. He's given so much to
[1:48:14] Speaker 12: his teammates, to this organization. And the thing we want
[1:48:18] Speaker 12: to do more than anything else is honor him back.
[1:48:20] Speaker 12: And I think the first order of business there is
[1:48:23] Speaker 12: allowing him to spend the time he needs to decide
[1:48:26] Speaker 12: what his next step are. Does he want to play
[1:48:28] Speaker 12: another year in the NBA? And that'll be, as he
[1:48:32] Speaker 12: said to you guys last night, family time, I think
[1:48:34] Speaker 12: time with his inner circle. And we just want to
[1:48:37] Speaker 12: honor that for him. Of course, any team, including ours,
[1:48:41] Speaker 12: would love to have LeBron James on their roster.
[1:48:46] Speaker 5: But also, Seth, we are retrofitting this team around Luka.
[1:48:50] Speaker 5: I think they've made that clear. There's been reports since
[1:48:54] Speaker 5: the summer they're going to Backstreet Boys concerts wearing all white.
[1:48:57] Speaker 1: Okay.
[1:48:59] Speaker 6: Brian not getting the game ball after his 1229th. Another
[1:49:03] Speaker 6: report today, March 31st.
[1:49:05] Speaker 5: They beat the Cavs. Palenka gave the game ball to J.J.
[1:49:08] Speaker 5: Redick for his 100th win. I think Luka had crossed
[1:49:10] Speaker 5: 15,000 points at that point. Rui had crossed 5,000. Brian
[1:49:13] Speaker 5: had gotten NBA record 1229th win. Appeared to be rubbed
[1:49:17] Speaker 5: the wrong way about that. Also said recently how he
[1:49:20] Speaker 5: was willing to embrace that role of a third option
[1:49:22] Speaker 5: for the good of the team.
[1:49:24] Speaker 2: There's so much out there, man. Like the Spurs ain't
[1:49:28] Speaker 2: going to the Spurs.
[1:49:30] Speaker 6: I can't get the game ball for 1229? All them
[1:49:32] Speaker 6: excuses for getting swept. You don't get swept, man. Get
[1:49:35] Speaker 6: your own ball, man. Steal the ball.
[1:49:37] Speaker 3: But it was multiple milestones in that game, right?
[1:49:40] Speaker 1: Yeah. But what's the big deal?
[1:49:42] Speaker 3: Just go get the fucking ball made for everybody and
[1:49:45] Speaker 3: give everybody a goddamn ball, man.
[1:49:47] Speaker 1: It ain't like, dude.
[1:49:48] Speaker 6: But you're going to get this nigga the ball for
[1:49:49] Speaker 6: his 100th win. I got 1229.
[1:49:52] Speaker 3: Everybody deserves something that night, man.
[1:49:54] Speaker 1: Give him a dab.
[1:49:55] Speaker 7: You got a lot of basketballs in your closet, bro.
[1:49:57] Speaker 3: Fuck it. How many more you.
[1:49:58] Speaker 6: Need, bro?
[1:49:59] Speaker 1: Another one.
[1:50:01] Speaker 3: Another one.
[1:50:02] Speaker 2: Another one.
[1:50:02] Speaker 1: I want that ball.
[1:50:03] Speaker 3: Another one.
[1:50:03] Speaker 1: Hunter wins.
[1:50:05] Speaker 2: I want everything.
[1:50:06] Speaker 1: Man, gosh.
[1:50:06] Speaker 7: Share the ball, bro. Pass that, motherfucker. Let me get one.
[1:50:10] Speaker 1: I did. But let's talk a little bit about this
[1:50:12] Speaker 1: Lakers squad.
[1:50:13] Speaker 3: That shit ain't that serious.
[1:50:16] Speaker 1: I get it. You going to give it to J.J.
[1:50:18] Speaker 1: in front of the whole crew? J.J.
[1:50:19] Speaker 3: Ain't got one.
[1:50:20] Speaker 1: NBA history. You got 30 of them. Tons of coaches
[1:50:23] Speaker 1: that got 100 wins.
[1:50:24] Speaker 11: J.J.
[1:50:24] Speaker 3: Let them get one.
[1:50:26] Speaker 5: But Lakers saw great success in March of 15-2. 15-2
[1:50:31] Speaker 5: in March. I think Lucas set the record for highest
[1:50:33] Speaker 5: points per game for that month. The big three obviously
[1:50:36] Speaker 5: started appearing to embrace their roles. LeBron accepted being that
[1:50:39] Speaker 5: third option for the first time in his career.
[1:50:42] Speaker 3: In his life.
[1:50:44] Speaker 1: In his life.
[1:50:45] Speaker 6: I mean, I feel like he might have wrecked, but
[1:50:48] Speaker 6: he was the third option.
[1:50:49] Speaker 3: He saved his life.
[1:50:50] Speaker 5: But should the Lakers try to run it back with
[1:50:52] Speaker 5: that Luka Reeves, LeBron, big three, and add one more
[1:50:54] Speaker 5: additional piece?
[1:50:56] Speaker 4: No.
[1:50:59] Speaker 3: I'm telling you, man, you let Austin Reeves go try
[1:51:01] Speaker 3: to listen, man. I think Reeves more likely to give
[1:51:03] Speaker 3: a different answer. You can't have Luka shooting them shots
[1:51:07] Speaker 3: and Austin Reeves shooting the same kind of shots. Them
[1:51:09] Speaker 3: shit's demoralizing, dog.
[1:51:10] Speaker 6: You can't have all three of them not playing defense
[1:51:13] Speaker 6: and running back. You can't have that. It's too much
[1:51:18] Speaker 6: footage out there showing ball go up, y'all trotting down
[1:51:23] Speaker 6: in transition defense. They don't even score in fast break.
[1:51:27] Speaker 6: They reset the offense and you're still walking back. That's
[1:51:30] Speaker 6: unacceptable for winning basketball, period. Austin Reeves might not even
[1:51:35] Speaker 6: be the one that's doing that. He might be the
[1:51:37] Speaker 6: one running back, but he's still a cone. He still
[1:51:39] Speaker 6: don't play no defense. So it don't even matter whether
[1:51:42] Speaker 6: he tried back or not. Y'all, all three, don't bring
[1:51:45] Speaker 6: the defensive awareness that the team needs to play championship.
[1:51:48] Speaker 1: Basketball, man.
[1:51:49] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[1:51:50] Speaker 3: Like I said before, I'm letting A.R. go test the
[1:51:52] Speaker 3: open market, man. I think we can put a team
[1:51:56] Speaker 3: together without him that can compete in the Western Conference.
[1:52:01] Speaker 3: We can get a lot of pieces for that 2-4 team, man.
[1:52:04] Speaker 2: A bench for sure.
[1:52:04] Speaker 3: Like, We can get that 50 we got this year.
[1:52:07] Speaker 6: But you're free agent, Canard a free agent, Jackson Hayes
[1:52:11] Speaker 6: a free agent.
[1:52:12] Speaker 1: It's rebuild.
[1:52:13] Speaker 7: This is what I'm saying.
[1:52:14] Speaker 1: Rebuild it.
[1:52:15] Speaker 3: Rudy had a hell of a playoff, but, you know
[1:52:17] Speaker 3: what I'm saying?
[1:52:18] Speaker 2: Go ahead and take this minimum.
[1:52:19] Speaker 3: I like Rui. I bring Rui back. I bring Rui back.
[1:52:22] Speaker 2: I'm keeping Rui. No, I'm keeping Rui. He's a for sure.
[1:52:25] Speaker 3: I keep Jackson Hayes, and I keep Luke Kennard.
[1:52:30] Speaker 1: You can keep Luke. I keep Luke.
[1:52:32] Speaker 3: I keep Luke Kennard. Let him walk. Let him walk.
[1:52:35] Speaker 1: They can't. I'm saying if he got a player option.
[1:52:37] Speaker 3: Just buy them out.
[1:52:38] Speaker 2: You said Aiden?
[1:52:39] Speaker 1: Aiden got a player option. Please.
[1:52:41] Speaker 2: We could change this.
[1:52:42] Speaker 1: Is he making eight? Yeah, I think it's a little
[1:52:44] Speaker 1: bit more next season, but let me double check.
[1:52:45] Speaker 3: Whatever he was making.
[1:52:46] Speaker 7: It's two for 16, I think his deal was.
[1:52:48] Speaker 1: Jesus Christ. Yes, both of you, 8.1.
[1:52:51] Speaker 2: Skip, I saw your tweet about Bron. You said in
[1:52:54] Speaker 2: his eight years, he hasn't had a better run than Magic, Kareem, Shaq,
[1:53:02] Speaker 2: and Kobe.
[1:53:04] Speaker 4: I was asking the question, is his L.A. legacy over
[1:53:08] Speaker 4: eight years, his run, is it better than Magic's? No.
[1:53:13] Speaker 1: No.
[1:53:13] Speaker 4: Is it better than Kareem's, which extended pre-Magic, obviously?
[1:53:16] Speaker 1: No.
[1:53:17] Speaker 6: No.
[1:53:18] Speaker 4: And then, obviously, Shaq?
[1:53:20] Speaker 11: No.
[1:53:20] Speaker 1: No.
[1:53:20] Speaker 4: And do I have to even bring up the other guy?
[1:53:23] Speaker 3: Kobe, no.
[1:53:24] Speaker 1: No.
[1:53:24] Speaker 4: No.
[1:53:25] Speaker 3: We don't bring him up.
[1:53:26] Speaker 5: But what this franchise was before LeBron came in those
[1:53:29] Speaker 5: five seasons.
[1:53:31] Speaker 1: And where it's been in the eight seasons since he's
[1:53:33] Speaker 1: been here.
[1:53:33] Speaker 2: But can we say that his legacy run is better
[1:53:35] Speaker 2: than all of them?
[1:53:38] Speaker 4: How?
[1:53:40] Speaker 2: It's his legacy, his run. Like, his run in the
[1:53:42] Speaker 2: NBA is better than all those guys that you named.
[1:53:44] Speaker 6: No.
[1:53:44] Speaker 7: Not Kareem.
[1:53:45] Speaker 3: Not Kareem.
[1:53:46] Speaker 2: Why not?
[1:53:47] Speaker 6: Huh?
[1:53:48] Speaker 1: Why not?
[1:53:48] Speaker 6: Kareem got more rings, more championships. Defensive. I broke every record.
[1:53:54] Speaker 6: Kareem wasn't looking like this at 41.
[1:53:57] Speaker 4: So you want to do the GOAT debate? I mean,
[1:53:59] Speaker 4: is that where you're heading?
[1:54:00] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:54:01] Speaker 1: I mean.
[1:54:02] Speaker 6: Put Kareem in there. We've been waiting for this moment.
[1:54:04] Speaker 6: Sounds like it.
[1:54:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just trying to, you know, I get the
[1:54:08] Speaker 2: run with the Lakers, but, you know, I mean, the Lakers,
[1:54:09] Speaker 2: this is not my home. You know, this is my
[1:54:12] Speaker 2: third team I've been on. So I came here to
[1:54:14] Speaker 2: y'all city and I brought one. you know, when the
[1:54:16] Speaker 2: time when the city was down.
[1:54:18] Speaker 6: Very quick turnaround from where the franchise was prior to
[1:54:20] Speaker 6: his arrival.
[1:54:21] Speaker 2: You know, I'm later in my career. So, yes, the
[1:54:25] Speaker 2: run wasn't better, but I think the legacy run is
[1:54:27] Speaker 2: way better than all those guys.
[1:54:29] Speaker 4: You mean career?
[1:54:30] Speaker 2: Yes, career.
[1:54:31] Speaker 4: Okay, so, and just where we're ranking top ten, because
[1:54:34] Speaker 4: I got LeBron ninth in my top ten.
[1:54:37] Speaker 2: Yeah, and I saw that, and I'm just like, well,
[1:54:38] Speaker 2: how is he nine when.
[1:54:43] Speaker 4: Do you remember all the playoff collapses that he had,
[1:54:47] Speaker 4: all the epic fails? Do we have enough show left?
[1:54:52] Speaker 6: I got to.
[1:54:56] Speaker 1: Meet my weed man too.
[1:54:59] Speaker 4: I got a dental appointment.
[1:55:01] Speaker 1: True story.
[1:55:02] Speaker 4: I wish we'd started the show. We'd still be talking
[1:55:06] Speaker 4: about it if we'd started the show. Can we do
[1:55:08] Speaker 4: it tomorrow?
[1:55:10] Speaker 2: Can we do it tomorrow?
[1:55:11] Speaker 1: Are you here?
[1:55:12] Speaker 3: I'm back on them. I'm here tomorrow.
[1:55:14] Speaker 4: Okay, I am down to do it tomorrow. Start to finish,
[1:55:18] Speaker 4: wall to wall.
[1:55:18] Speaker 2: Let's go.
[1:55:19] Speaker 3: I need to hear this.
[1:55:21] Speaker 2: Because I saw your list at nine, but I'll wait.
[1:55:24] Speaker 3: No, the way he broke it down, though, is worth
[1:55:25] Speaker 3: talking about, though.
[1:55:27] Speaker 7: No, for sure.
[1:55:27] Speaker 3: It is definitely worth talking about.
[1:55:29] Speaker 2: Nine is crazy.
[1:55:31] Speaker 3: It is. When I heard it, right? I'm like, Skip,
[1:55:34] Speaker 3: I had his damn mind. But then he broke it down.
[1:55:36] Speaker 1: I was like.
[1:55:37] Speaker 3: It might be old or something. But then I'm like, yeah,
[1:55:39] Speaker 3: Skip fucking nuts for putting this out here. You know, Bronco. Yeah.
[1:55:44] Speaker 4: Just to end this, because we're talking Lakers. This is
[1:55:49] Speaker 4: why the bubble championship deserves a big asterisk. And I
[1:55:53] Speaker 4: know what your rebuttal is about this.
[1:55:55] Speaker 1: Bubble pandemic. Okay.
[1:55:57] Speaker 4: LeBron James, fairly late in his career, had four and
[1:56:01] Speaker 4: a half months off to get ready for the bubble.
[1:56:04] Speaker 4: It skews everything because if you have that much time
[1:56:09] Speaker 4: to heal and revitalize and be ready, because remember they
[1:56:13] Speaker 4: went in and played maybe a couple regular season games,
[1:56:17] Speaker 4: quote unquote, and then they went right into the playoffs, right?
[1:56:20] Speaker 4: And halfway through the bubble, half the teams didn't want
[1:56:24] Speaker 4: to be there anymore, and especially the team that was
[1:56:27] Speaker 4: favored that year, the Clippers, they just revolted and rebelled
[1:56:32] Speaker 4: and mutinied on Doc and just said, we, lemon pepper Lou,
[1:56:36] Speaker 4: you know, they just wanted out. They just wanted out,
[1:56:40] Speaker 4: and they collapsed, obviously, against the Nuggets. So it's hard
[1:56:44] Speaker 4: for me to... did LeBron do a great job of
[1:56:47] Speaker 4: leading his team and keeping it together because he smelled
[1:56:50] Speaker 4: an easy championship? He did that. I give you that.
[1:56:54] Speaker 4: But is it qualified? Does it qualify as a real
[1:56:59] Speaker 4: live chip? It doesn't to me because if you make
[1:57:03] Speaker 4: LeBron play all the way through, what's been his big
[1:57:07] Speaker 4: issue that he's faced again and again. We could go
[1:57:09] Speaker 4: back through the last five playoffs. He runs out of gas. Well,
[1:57:14] Speaker 4: he didn't run out of gas that time because he
[1:57:15] Speaker 4: got four and a half months of pandemic off before
[1:57:20] Speaker 4: the bubble started. Okay, so for me, it cheapened that championship,
[1:57:25] Speaker 4: but that's what he clings to. That's what he hangs
[1:57:28] Speaker 4: on to. to make his L.A. legacy, because the rest
[1:57:31] Speaker 4: of it is 32 and 31 in playoff games, and
[1:57:35] Speaker 4: 16 and 26 since the bubble. I don't know. That
[1:57:39] Speaker 4: taints his resume more than it helps it to me.
[1:57:45] Speaker 1: But we could.
[1:57:46] Speaker 3: Oh, no.
[1:57:47] Speaker 2: We'll get into this tomorrow. I mean, the whole world
[1:57:49] Speaker 2: was dying.
[1:57:50] Speaker 4: Okay, well, let's do it. I am dying to do it.
[1:57:55] Speaker 4: That nine, I'm... You mean Le9, right?
[1:57:59] Speaker 3: Le9?
[1:57:59] Speaker 1: Okay.
[1:58:00] Speaker 2: I don't know about Le9.
[1:58:03] Speaker 1: Everybody else had four and a half months off, too. Yes,
[1:58:05] Speaker 1: they did. And they're much younger, fresher.
[1:58:07] Speaker 3: They didn't have Dwight Howard, JaVale McGee.
[1:58:09] Speaker 1: But weak-minded. Demarcus Cousins, Ray John Rondo.
[1:58:12] Speaker 3: That's not the Lakers' problem.
[1:58:13] Speaker 2: Don't do that.
[1:58:14] Speaker 1: Eddie Green.
[1:58:15] Speaker 2: Don't do that.
[1:58:17] Speaker 7: They didn't have Anthony Davis.
[1:58:19] Speaker 1: They did not.
[1:58:20] Speaker 7: Excuse me?
[1:58:21] Speaker 1: L.A.
[1:58:22] Speaker 3: Was going through it.
[1:58:23] Speaker 2: Kobe just passed.
[1:58:25] Speaker 6: Before the season got suspended, who did the Lakers beat?
[1:58:28] Speaker 1: The Clippers and the Bucks. We want to smoke with whoever.
[1:58:31] Speaker 6: We just had Ross Cole.
[1:58:32] Speaker 1: We going through it.
[1:58:33] Speaker 6: Had to take a four and a half month break
[1:58:35] Speaker 6: and then lock back in, staying in hotels. If you're
[1:58:37] Speaker 6: a business and you close 100% of your deals, what
[1:58:43] Speaker 6: kind of grade does the business get? If you close 100%
[1:58:47] Speaker 6: of your deals, I would say very favorable on the
[1:58:49] Speaker 6: Better Business Bureau.
[1:58:50] Speaker 7: That would be like 6-0 in the finals. Like it's
[1:58:53] Speaker 7: a business.
[1:58:54] Speaker 4: With 60 million people.
[1:58:55] Speaker 6: Do they only go to... Six finals? They only play
[1:58:57] Speaker 6: six seasons?
[1:58:58] Speaker 3: Just saying as a business.
[1:59:00] Speaker 6: It looks like if you close 71% of your deals
[1:59:03] Speaker 6: as a business, it's like five and two.
[1:59:07] Speaker 7: It's pretty good, right? It's like C plus, B minus.
[1:59:13] Speaker 7: Four and six.
[1:59:14] Speaker 4: Four and six.
[1:59:15] Speaker 1: As a business.
[1:59:16] Speaker 4: And without Ray Allen, it's three and seven.
[1:59:18] Speaker 1: Seriously.
[1:59:19] Speaker 7: What do you do as a business? What kind of
[1:59:22] Speaker 7: grade is that?
[1:59:23] Speaker 5: You finish top two amongst all the other businesses. For
[1:59:26] Speaker 5: 10 years, basically what you're saying?
[1:59:29] Speaker 6: Yeah, just 10 years. What kind of grade would you get?
[1:59:31] Speaker 6: If you want to close the deal, are you going
[1:59:33] Speaker 6: to go?
[1:59:33] Speaker 1: I think you're respectable. Just saying. You have to take
[1:59:37] Speaker 1: the body of that business.
[1:59:38] Speaker 7: We're going to talk about business.
[1:59:40] Speaker 6: We're going to talk about winning and win shares and
[1:59:43] Speaker 6: how I'm going to get my wins off. I'm going
[1:59:45] Speaker 6: with the businesses that have a positive rating.
[1:59:49] Speaker 7: That's all. We can talk about it tomorrow.
[1:59:51] Speaker 1: Cool. Good.
[1:59:54] Speaker 4: Can't wait. It's easy.
[1:59:57] Speaker 5: All right, well, let's shift over to our playoff previews,
[2:00:02] Speaker 5: as we've been doing here on Gills Arena presented by
[2:00:04] Speaker 5: Underdog Whoop Whoop. Powered by Underdog's Prediction Market. So let's
[2:00:08] Speaker 5: take a look at the updated standings on our playoff board.
[2:00:12] Speaker 5: Canyon holding down the top spot on the Gills Arena
[2:00:16] Speaker 5: playoff leaderboard, 32-20.
[2:00:16] Speaker 1: Ha-ha. They gave Nick 8.5.
[2:00:17] Speaker 6: 34-26.
[2:00:17] Speaker 1: 18.5. Mr. B, 35 and 33. Swag. 18.5. We gave
[2:00:28] Speaker 1: him his. 5 back during clerical error.
[2:00:31] Speaker 3: You got to get into the 500.
[2:00:32] Speaker 4: I got a LeBron record, right? I got a LeBron
[2:00:35] Speaker 4: finals record.
[2:00:35] Speaker 1: You got to get into the 500, man.
[2:00:37] Speaker 2: Jeez. What's Kareem's like?
[2:00:41] Speaker 3: 7 and 6?
[2:00:42] Speaker 2: 6 and 7?
[2:00:43] Speaker 3: 6 and... I.
[2:00:47] Speaker 1: Don't know. But let's talk about the loss.
[2:00:51] Speaker 6: The one playoff game on the docket tonight Series tied
[2:00:54] Speaker 6: 2-2 as we head back to Detroit. Donovan Mitchell, Cavs
[2:00:57] Speaker 6: have won two straight. Home team is yet to lose
[2:00:59] Speaker 6: in the series. Pistons favorite at home with a 61%
[2:01:02] Speaker 6: chance to win this game. Cavaliers have a 39% chance
[2:01:06] Speaker 6: to win. Shia, who takes the 3-2 series lead in
[2:01:09] Speaker 6: Detroit tonight? I got to go with Cleveland the way
[2:01:11] Speaker 6: they've been playing. Momentum serves to be the best right now.
[2:01:17] Speaker 6: I could see Donovan Mitchell showing up. I could see
[2:01:20] Speaker 6: James Harden finally getting over this curse. But you can't
[2:01:23] Speaker 6: count the Pistons out. I don't want to count them out,
[2:01:26] Speaker 6: but I'm just, you got to close it out. This
[2:01:31] Speaker 6: has got to be the game where Cleveland makes a
[2:01:34] Speaker 6: stance and sends a message.
[2:01:39] Speaker 3: How many playoff games has Cleveland won? Road games? Last
[2:01:45] Speaker 3: time I remember, they can't win on the road, so
[2:01:47] Speaker 3: I don't think it's going to change tonight.
[2:01:48] Speaker 1: Okay. We got some Cavs on this one.
[2:01:51] Speaker 3: Detroit basketball.
[2:01:55] Speaker 1: Can you go into business, Skip?
[2:01:58] Speaker 6: How about yourself?
[2:02:01] Speaker 4: Look, Donovan Mitchell will be the best player on the
[2:02:05] Speaker 4: floor because he always is. But Detroit is the better team.
[2:02:10] Speaker 4: And they killed me the other day. They're up four
[2:02:13] Speaker 4: at halftime and they give up a 22 to nothing
[2:02:15] Speaker 4: run to start the third quarter.
[2:02:17] Speaker 1: Come on, man.
[2:02:18] Speaker 4: They're just better than that. So, I respect you going
[2:02:22] Speaker 4: with Cleveland because it's got a lot of credence to it.
[2:02:29] Speaker 4: But I'm going to stick with the home team. They're
[2:02:32] Speaker 4: favored by three and a half. I just think they'll
[2:02:34] Speaker 4: win a close game and Cade will make a shot
[2:02:36] Speaker 4: that gets it and keeps it alive.
[2:02:41] Speaker 7: Same.
[2:02:42] Speaker 2: I'm going to go Detroit, 3-1-3.
[2:02:44] Speaker 7: Fuck Free World. Damn.
[2:02:48] Speaker 1: Damn. Also from Detroit Suburbs.
[2:02:54] Speaker 7: I got to get this one.
[2:02:56] Speaker 6: I got a chance to move up. Kareem, six and
[2:02:58] Speaker 6: four in the finals, just for those who are curious.
[2:03:01] Speaker 6: All right, so we.
[2:03:02] Speaker 5: Got our playoff picks. Do have one more thing to discuss.
[2:03:05] Speaker 5: We got to end the show on a sad note.
[2:03:08] Speaker 5: The basketball world was devastated Tuesday with the announcement of
[2:03:10] Speaker 5: two untimely deaths. So Monday, Grizzlies forward Brandon Clark passed
[2:03:14] Speaker 5: away here in Los Angeles. Clark was drafted in the
[2:03:17] Speaker 5: first round by the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2019, traded
[2:03:20] Speaker 5: two weeks later to Memphis where he played his entire
[2:03:22] Speaker 5: seven-year career. Clark joined John Morant on the NBA's All-Rookie
[2:03:26] Speaker 5: team during the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season, averaging 12.6 rebounds in
[2:03:31] Speaker 5: 58 games while finishing fourth in rookie voting. Injuries kept
[2:03:35] Speaker 5: him sidelined for most of the past three seasons. He
[2:03:38] Speaker 5: only appeared in two games this season. Tuesday also announced
[2:03:41] Speaker 5: that Former 13-year veteran Jason Collins passed away after a
[2:03:46] Speaker 5: battle with brain cancer. Collins was the first openly gay
[2:03:49] Speaker 5: player in NBA history, served as a global ambassador for
[2:03:51] Speaker 5: the sport for the past decade, 18th overall pick in
[2:03:54] Speaker 5: the 2001 draft, played with seven teams during his career,
[2:03:57] Speaker 5: including the Nets, Grizzlies, Hawks, Celtics, and Wizards, retiring in 2014.
[2:04:02] Speaker 5: So Collins announced he was gay in a 2013 Sports
[2:04:05] Speaker 5: Illustrated cover story, becoming the first publicly gay athlete to
[2:04:09] Speaker 5: play in any of the four main North American sports leagues.
[2:04:13] Speaker 5: This past November, Collins announced he had been diagnosed with
[2:04:16] Speaker 5: stage four glioblastoma. He traveled to Singapore this past winter
[2:04:20] Speaker 5: to receive experimental treatments, which were not yet authorized in
[2:04:23] Speaker 5: the United States. Those treatments were effective enough for him
[2:04:27] Speaker 5: to come back home, but the cancer returned recently. He
[2:04:30] Speaker 5: died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by
[2:04:32] Speaker 5: his family. So just in terms of Jason Collins, LA legend,
[2:04:36] Speaker 5: San Fernando Valley legend, Collins twins, staple of the basketball
[2:04:39] Speaker 5: community here for decades. Uh, you and Jason teammates with
[2:04:42] Speaker 5: the Nets. Can you, what are your favorite memories from
[2:04:44] Speaker 5: playing with Jason Collins?
[2:04:46] Speaker 3: No, just, I want to send condolences to his family, man.
[2:04:50] Speaker 3: First and foremost, um, we called him twin and our
[2:04:54] Speaker 3: twin was a good dude, man. Um, good heart, um,
[2:04:58] Speaker 3: fun to be around, energetic, um, never had a down day. Um,
[2:05:02] Speaker 3: we were there, we were teammates for three years, um,
[2:05:04] Speaker 3: made the two finals, um, had some good runs with him. Um,
[2:05:09] Speaker 3: undersized big man that played with heart and determination. Yeah,
[2:05:15] Speaker 3: it's unfortunate, man, that it's come to this. He's come
[2:05:19] Speaker 3: to cancer, but great human being overall. Was with the
[2:05:25] Speaker 3: Knicks when the article came out that he was going
[2:05:27] Speaker 3: to come out and ask for my support, right? And
[2:05:33] Speaker 3: told him, yeah, for sure. It's nothing for me to
[2:05:37] Speaker 3: to support you. This is who you are. This is
[2:05:40] Speaker 3: you are. I looked at you as a teammate, as
[2:05:41] Speaker 3: a friend.
[2:05:42] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[2:05:43] Speaker 3: So it was nothing for, for me to do that. Um,
[2:05:47] Speaker 3: but yeah, no, I mean, it's, it's a sad day
[2:05:49] Speaker 3: for the NBA. We lost two really good people. Um,
[2:05:53] Speaker 3: we have, me and Jason, yeah, we had some battles together. Um,
[2:05:57] Speaker 3: it just won't, yeah, like I said, I want to
[2:05:58] Speaker 3: send condolences to his family, twin brother, Jaron. Um, pretty
[2:06:02] Speaker 3: sure this is, this is unbearable for them. Um, But, yeah, no,
[2:06:07] Speaker 3: he's a great human being we lost. Put other people first.
[2:06:12] Speaker 3: Did so much for that community when he was, after
[2:06:16] Speaker 3: he finally made the decision that he was going to
[2:06:17] Speaker 3: tell the world. Yeah, so it's a very unfortunate thing.
[2:06:23] Speaker 5: So we want to send our prayers, condolences to both
[2:06:25] Speaker 5: the Clark and Collins family. Like Kenya mentioned, Jason's twin brother, Jaron.
[2:06:30] Speaker 5: Like I said, legends out here in L.A., San Fernando Valley.
[2:06:33] Speaker 5: Montclair Prep, Harvard Westlake. Ended up going to Stanford. Obviously,
[2:06:37] Speaker 5: both played in the league for a number of years.
[2:06:38] Speaker 5: So I just want to send those prayers out and
[2:06:41] Speaker 5: let you guys know we're thinking about you and we're
[2:06:42] Speaker 5: praying for you. And I want to tell you guys
[2:06:45] Speaker 5: we appreciate you as well, man.
[2:06:46] Speaker 1: Thank you, guys.
[2:06:47] Speaker 3: You're just crazy, man. It's been a crazy year, man.
[2:06:49] Speaker 3: It was brought to my attention that I lost three
[2:06:53] Speaker 3: of my former teammates within the last year. And Rodney Rogers,
[2:06:58] Speaker 3: Dikembe Mutombo, and now Jason Collins, man. So, no, it's
[2:07:03] Speaker 3: been a rough one, man. It's been a rough one
[2:07:06] Speaker 3: and a lot of thoughts going on in my head, man.
[2:07:11] Speaker 3: But life is life and definitely.
[2:07:15] Speaker 5: Make every day your masterpiece. So we appreciate everybody in
[2:07:18] Speaker 5: the chat. Like I said, I appreciate all of you
[2:07:20] Speaker 5: on this couch. This has been another episode of Gil's
[2:07:22] Speaker 5: Arena presented by Underdog. We will see y'all tomorrow.
