The New York Knicks EPIC Game 1 Comeback FIRES UP Gil's Arena as the Gil's Arena Crew reacts to the Knicks overcoming a 22 point deficit in the 4th Quarter to stun the Cleveland Cavaliers in a Game 1 thriller and break down how Jalen Brunson & the Knicks stole the opening game of the Eastern Conference Finals with their gutsy performance. They analyze what the Cavs can do to slow down Brunson as the series moves along and call out James Harden for sinking his team with his 6th game in these NBA Playoffs where the beard had more turnovers than FGs made. Next, they react to the stunning news from the Dallas Mavericks as the team decided to move on from head coach Jason Kidd and break down what this means for Cooper Flagg and the rest of the Mavs roster as the team looks to move in a new direction under new leadership. Then they give their takes on the viral clip of Anthony Edwards shaking hands with the San Antonio Spurs with 8 minutes left in their Game 6 blowout and debate if the Timberwolves superstar was overstepping with this immature action before getting into a heated debate on who is the best player in the World right now after Victor Wembanyama outplayed Shai Gilgeous Alexander, despite the OKC Thunder Superstar taking home his 2nd NBA MVP Award. [0:34] Speaker 2: his mantle.
[0:36] Speaker 4: Wow.
[0:37] Speaker 1: We will discuss that shortly, but this is Gills Arena
[0:39] Speaker 1: presented by Underdog. I'm merely a host, Josiah Johnson. We
[0:43] Speaker 1: got one of the biggest legends in the sports media game,
[0:45] Speaker 1: Skip Bayless, back in the building here with us.
[0:46] Speaker 2: This is my turn.
[0:49] Speaker 1: Representing Tough Crowd, card-carrying country club member, also Tough Crowd Golf.
[0:54] Speaker 1: the newest and truest installation in the Tough Crowd family, Mr. B,
[0:58] Speaker 1: Brandon Jennings. On this side of the couch, we got
[1:03] Speaker 1: a distinguished gentleman from Oak Cliff, former number one pick,
[1:05] Speaker 1: Kenyon Martin.
[1:10] Speaker 2: Fucking hands look like Nick over here.
[1:12] Speaker 1: Can we get Kenyon some moisturizer, please?
[1:15] Speaker 2: My shit look like, look down like, oh, these don't
[1:19] Speaker 2: belong to me.
[1:22] Speaker 1: Last but not least, a man they call Cemetery Larry,
[1:25] Speaker 1: NCAA Champion of the World, Dr. Rashad McCants, PhD, back
[1:28] Speaker 1: here with us.
[1:28] Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
[1:32] Speaker 2: That was easy.
[1:33] Speaker 1: Is he representing for New York?
[1:38] Speaker 2: Absolutely. You know me. Nick Disperse. Yeah.
[1:41] Speaker 4: I'm a real knicker.
[1:43] Speaker 2: I'm a real knicker, man.
[1:47] Speaker 1: Oh, well, we got a lot to get into. Here's
[1:50] Speaker 1: what's cracking in Gills. Wait, before we do, Kane, just
[1:52] Speaker 1: want to make sure you're properly moisturized.
[1:54] Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
[1:54] Speaker 2: No, I ain't letting you. Let us know when we're
[1:55] Speaker 2: good to go. Uncomfortable.
[1:57] Speaker 1: Another Kenny Akins.
[1:58] Speaker 2: I'd be sitting over here like this doing the show
[2:00] Speaker 2: if I ain't getting no love.
[2:03] Speaker 1: We got a lot to discuss. Here's what's cracking in
[2:05] Speaker 1: Gills Arena today. The Knicks overcame a 22-point fourth quarter
[2:09] Speaker 1: deficit to take Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
[2:13] Speaker 1: Will the Cavs recover from their epic meltdown? The Mavs
[2:17] Speaker 1: and Jason Kidd mutually agreed to part ways after five seasons.
[2:21] Speaker 1: How will this move impact the franchise and their franchise
[2:24] Speaker 1: player moving forward? And Wimby, coming off a historic performance
[2:28] Speaker 1: in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, is the
[2:30] Speaker 1: alien in the convo for the best player in the
[2:33] Speaker 1: league right now. We will discuss, but before we get

[3:12] Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcasts. So let's start in the East.
[3:16] Speaker 1: Cavs and Knicks tipped off their Eastern Conference final series
[3:19] Speaker 1: Tuesday night in the Garden. Cavs blew out the Pistons
[3:22] Speaker 1: in Game 7 in Detroit Sunday to advance to their
[3:24] Speaker 1: first conference final since 2018. Meanwhile, the Knicks were posted
[3:27] Speaker 1: at the crib like a mailbox for the past nine
[3:30] Speaker 1: days after sweeping the Sixers. New York was plus 194
[3:34] Speaker 1: in their first two series, the largest margin ever through
[3:36] Speaker 1: a team's first 10 postseason games. Got some good news
[3:39] Speaker 1: with the return of O.G. Ananobi after missing two straight
[3:42] Speaker 1: games with a right hamstring strain. The Cavs look poised
[3:45] Speaker 1: to pull off another road upset after starting the postseason
[3:48] Speaker 1: 0-5 away from their crib, but the King of New
[3:51] Speaker 1: York defended his castle to guide his squad to one
[3:53] Speaker 1: of the biggest comebacks in playoff history. Let's take a
[3:56] Speaker 1: look at the highlights, if we can please. The Cavs
[4:00] Speaker 1: struck first, taking advantage of a rusty Knicks squad to
[4:03] Speaker 1: take an early lead, but the Knicks fought back in
[4:06] Speaker 1: the quarter with a 15-3 run to take a seven-point
[4:08] Speaker 1: lead after the first frame. Cavs' 16 points was the
[4:11] Speaker 1: fewest in any quarter this postseason, but Cleveland responded in
[4:14] Speaker 1: the second quarter, outscoring the Knicks 32-23, and in the
[4:18] Speaker 1: first half of the 21-8 run to take a two-point
[4:20] Speaker 1: lead into the break. Cavs continue rolling in the third quarter.
[4:23] Speaker 1: Cleveland have five players scoring double figures, with Donovan Mitchell
[4:27] Speaker 1: leading the way with 29 points, five boards, and six steals.
[4:30] Speaker 1: Evan Mobley added 15 and 14 boards on six-for-16 shooting.
[4:33] Speaker 1: James Harden had 15 on five-for-16 shooting, along with six turnovers,
[4:38] Speaker 1: six times this postseason, Harden. Had more turnovers than made
[4:42] Speaker 1: field goals. Cavs led by 22 with just under eight
[4:45] Speaker 1: minutes remaining. But then Jalen Brunson got to cooking, scoring
[4:50] Speaker 1: 15 points in the fourth quarter as he had his
[4:52] Speaker 1: way with Harden and the Cavs defense. Brunson finished with
[4:56] Speaker 1: a game-high 38 points, along with six assists and three steals.
[5:00] Speaker 1: It was his 16th career Knicks playoff game with 35
[5:02] Speaker 1: plus points. Mikael Bridges added 18 points on a seven
[5:05] Speaker 1: of 11 shooting, while OG, Ananobi, and Cat both had 13.
[5:09] Speaker 1: Big Bodega also had 13 rebounds and five assists along
[5:12] Speaker 1: with a game high seven turnovers. So Knicks went on
[5:15] Speaker 1: a 28 to six run to claw their way back
[5:18] Speaker 1: into the game. Thanks in large part to plays like
[5:21] Speaker 1: that from Jalen Brunson. They were just picking on James Harden, man. Very,
[5:26] Speaker 1: very unfortunate. To see Mighty Mouse out there doing work,
[5:32] Speaker 1: making it go. Mikael Bridges. They were hating on Mikael
[5:36] Speaker 1: Bridges earlier in the playoffs, but he's come along and
[5:38] Speaker 1: come very strong in these past few games. Knocked down
[5:43] Speaker 1: that big three right there to cut the lead to three.
[5:44] Speaker 1: And then Landry Shammott hit this three to tie things
[5:48] Speaker 1: up with under a minute remaining. Harden and Brunson exchange
[5:52] Speaker 1: buckets to keep things tied up. James Harden got that
[5:55] Speaker 1: one right there. But Brunson came right back. Said, I
[6:01] Speaker 1: got that for you. Tied things up at 101. Game
[6:05] Speaker 1: on the line. Sam Merrill had a chance for the win,
[6:08] Speaker 1: but his three went in and out. Almost got a
[6:10] Speaker 1: preemptive bang from Mike Brink. As game one of the
[6:14] Speaker 1: Eastern and Western Conference Finals both went to overtime for
[6:16] Speaker 1: the first time in league history. OJ Ananobi and Jalen
[6:19] Speaker 1: Brunson scored the first six points in overtime. Then Landry
[6:23] Speaker 1: Schmidt hit another big three to extend the lead to nine.
[6:26] Speaker 1: with under two minutes remaining. Sherman was three for three
[6:29] Speaker 1: from distance in the fourth quarter in overtime. Knicks ended
[6:32] Speaker 1: the game on a 44-11 run in the final 12-49
[6:36] Speaker 1: of regulation in overtime to close out this game. Cavs
[6:40] Speaker 1: shot 22% from the field during that stretch, with Mitchell
[6:42] Speaker 1: and Harden going to combine one for ten in that
[6:45] Speaker 1: time frame, while the Knicks shot 71% in crunch time.
[6:48] Speaker 1: It was the Knicks' largest playoff comeback win since at
[6:50] Speaker 1: least 1970. Jalen Brunson, Donovan Mitchell had this to say
[6:55] Speaker 1: after the game.
[6:56] Speaker 5: Keep fighting, keep chipping away. We're not going to get
[6:59] Speaker 5: it back in one possession. Most importantly, sticking together. No
[7:06] Speaker 5: matter how that game finishes, habits translate. They translate to
[7:09] Speaker 5: the next game. Finishing the game strong, regardless of whatever's
[7:14] Speaker 5: going on, making sure we have the right habits. We'll
[7:17] Speaker 5: be going to the next game. We're We're doing what
[7:22] Speaker 5: we're just doing. We're not just giving up. We don't
[7:26] Speaker 5: want to give up ever. Just having faith in each other.
[7:30] Speaker 2: It's one loss.
[7:31] Speaker 6: It's a bad loss, but all we can do is
[7:35] Speaker 6: go back and watch the film and fix it.
[7:36] Speaker 4: How do you recover from this?
[7:39] Speaker 2: It's one game.
[7:40] Speaker 6: We could have lost by 40. Still would have been 1-0.
[7:43] Speaker 6: So we just watched the film. We played pretty solid
[7:46] Speaker 6: for three quarters or so. We'll make adjustments and go
[7:50] Speaker 6: from there. I said in the locker room, just that.
[7:54] Speaker 2: We lost. We fucking blew it. All right. Let's run
[7:57] Speaker 2: for game two.
[7:58] Speaker 4: Simple as that.
[8:01] Speaker 1: We effing blew it over the last 30 postseason entering
[8:04] Speaker 1: this game. Teams down 22 points in the fourth quarter
[8:06] Speaker 1: were 1 and 594. Knicks made it 2 and 594
[8:11] Speaker 1: with this gutsy performance. Skip, we will start with you.
[8:14] Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on the Knicks' comeback win over
[8:17] Speaker 1: the Cavs in game one in the Garden?
[8:23] Speaker 7: So, I've been doing this for a while. And in
[8:29] Speaker 7: all my years, I've never seen anything quite like that.
[8:36] Speaker 7: If I didn't know better, and I hope I do
[8:39] Speaker 7: know better, it was like the Cleveland Cavaliers up 22
[8:45] Speaker 7: with seven and a half minutes left just decided to lose.
[8:51] Speaker 7: Just stopped playing, stopped competing, stopped coaching. And I'm talking
[8:57] Speaker 7: about Donovan Mitchell and James Harden and Kenny Atkinson in order.
[9:03] Speaker 3: Just stopped.
[9:06] Speaker 2: Just disappeared.
[9:11] Speaker 7: Maybe they weren't trying to lose, but they quit trying
[9:15] Speaker 7: to win the basketball game. And I slept on it
[9:20] Speaker 7: and I still can't figure it out. And the flashpoint
[9:25] Speaker 7: moment for me was the second Landry Shamit three came
[9:29] Speaker 7: with 45 seconds left. He missed it. It's long, and
[9:34] Speaker 7: it hits long. And you guys have shot a.
[9:38] Speaker 3: Million of these. And if you hit.
[9:42] Speaker 7: The long side of the rim, it ain't going down
[9:45] Speaker 7: from that far out because it's just going too fast.
[9:48] Speaker 7: And it hit just perfectly to carry him up sideways, off,
[9:53] Speaker 7: the backboard, drop down, hit the back iron, hit the
[9:56] Speaker 7: short rim just softly enough that it hung and fell
[10:02] Speaker 7: forward through and when that when that shot fell I
[10:06] Speaker 7: said that's it it's over even though that just tied
[10:09] Speaker 7: the game I said they are done but but they
[10:12] Speaker 7: were really done for the last seven and a half
[10:14] Speaker 7: minutes of the game. A 44-11 run that they give
[10:18] Speaker 7: up all the way through the overtime, which was a joke.
[10:21] Speaker 7: And my biggest takeaways are, this is why you don't
[10:27] Speaker 7: trade for James Harden.
[10:29] Speaker 3: I'm sorry. Yes, he won MVP.
[10:32] Speaker 7: In his time, his perimeter skills were one of one.
[10:37] Speaker 7: But He has consistently displayed in his biggest moments in
[10:43] Speaker 7: playoff games. I'm sorry, I'm just going to say he
[10:47] Speaker 7: has loser intangibles. That's what he has. He is a
[10:51] Speaker 7: turnover waiting to happen in the biggest moments. He's an
[10:55] Speaker 7: airball three waiting to happen in the biggest moments. He
[10:58] Speaker 7: has a long history of playoff flameouts and disappearances. And
[11:04] Speaker 7: last night was classic James over the 44-11 run. He
[11:09] Speaker 7: goes 1 of 5, 0 of 3 from 3 with
[11:12] Speaker 7: a turnover and two missed free throws. Both of them
[11:16] Speaker 7: big momentum maker breakers. And as you point out, they
[11:22] Speaker 7: just hunted him on defense, but everybody now hunts him
[11:25] Speaker 7: on defense.
[11:25] Speaker 3: He's going on 37 years of age.
[11:26] Speaker 7: And yet, How can Kenny Atkinson just sit over there
[11:32] Speaker 7: and watch it happen again and again and again? Jalen Brunson,
[11:37] Speaker 7: who was great late, I take nothing away. But again,
[11:40] Speaker 7: this was much more of an epic collapse than an
[11:43] Speaker 7: epic comeback. Because I'm just watching Jalen Brunson just get
[11:48] Speaker 7: the switch, just go down and get the switch, just
[11:51] Speaker 7: get the pick switch. Oh, he's got James Harden, and
[11:53] Speaker 7: he scores seven of eight baskets on James Harden.
[11:58] Speaker 3: Where is Kenny Atkinson?
[11:59] Speaker 2: What?
[12:01] Speaker 7: We're watching the other series, and obviously the San Antonio
[12:04] Speaker 7: Spurs are just saying no to SGA.
[12:07] Speaker 2: They're just saying, you can't do this.
[12:10] Speaker 3: Two people are going to take you.
[12:11] Speaker 7: Just past half court, and you're going to have a
[12:13] Speaker 7: hard time getting anywhere near the paint And they get
[12:18] Speaker 7: the switch on James Harden, and there's never a double team.
[12:20] Speaker 7: It's just, here, you can have it, and you can
[12:24] Speaker 7: have it again, and yeah, we're totally comfortable with James
[12:27] Speaker 7: Harden playing.
[12:28] Speaker 3: I don't know what happened to Max Strews.
[12:29] Speaker 7: I know he had five fouls, but he's the only
[12:32] Speaker 7: defender that they really have, and he just doesn't make
[12:35] Speaker 7: it back into the game, and I don't know why.
[12:37] Speaker 3: And then you brought up the timeouts.
[12:39] Speaker 7: Again, you've got two left with three minutes because you
[12:42] Speaker 7: lose the two.
[12:43] Speaker 3: He did use one much earlier.
[12:45] Speaker 7: But in the last three minutes, you have to use
[12:47] Speaker 7: your two timeouts just to try to break the momentum
[12:50] Speaker 7: or at least try a strategy session. Let's switch something
[12:54] Speaker 7: up on defense or on offense. Let's call a play.
[12:59] Speaker 7: Let's try to snap Donovan Mitchell back into life a
[13:04] Speaker 7: little bit. Let's call a play.
[13:05] Speaker 3: For Donovan Mitchell. Let's let him touch the basketball line.
[13:10] Speaker 7: Because down the stretch, Donovan Mitchell in that 44-19 run,
[13:14] Speaker 7: he goes 0 for 5, 0 for 2 from 3,
[13:16] Speaker 7: but more important, he shoots zero free throws. The whole
[13:20] Speaker 7: rest of the game, he made his last basket with
[13:22] Speaker 7: 8.49 left in regulation. Donovan Mitchell doesn't get to the
[13:26] Speaker 7: free throw line. He is a beast of a bitch
[13:30] Speaker 7: to guard. He can get to the rim whenever he wants.
[13:35] Speaker 7: He's got the physique, right? I mean, he just is.
[13:38] Speaker 7: He's hard to guard because he plays so strong. And
[13:43] Speaker 7: he stopped playing, and I don't know why. And it
[13:45] Speaker 7: comes down to the last possession in regulation. James Harden
[13:52] Speaker 7: dribbles the ball.
[13:52] Speaker 3: They've got plenty of time. It's a tie game now.
[13:55] Speaker 7: If you told the Cavaliers before game one at Madison
[13:57] Speaker 7: Square Garden, it's going to be a tie game, and
[14:00] Speaker 7: you're going to have the ball with 12 seconds left,
[14:01] Speaker 7: wouldn't you say, okay, we'll take that.
[14:03] Speaker 2: We can do that.
[14:04] Speaker 4: Absolutely.
[14:05] Speaker 3: We've got some scores.
[14:06] Speaker 2: We've got some people.
[14:06] Speaker 7: We've got Donovan Mitchell on our side. And James Harden
[14:10] Speaker 7: dribbles past half court, and they send Sam Merrill out
[14:13] Speaker 7: to pick for James.
[14:15] Speaker 3: Who wants no part of this.
[14:17] Speaker 7: There's no way he's going to shoot this or try
[14:20] Speaker 7: to get to the free throw line because we know
[14:21] Speaker 7: what's going to happen if he's at the free throw line.
[14:24] Speaker 7: And Jalen Brunson leaves and doubles James Harden, which is crazy,
[14:29] Speaker 7: and James goes behind the back bounce pass to Sam Merrill,
[14:32] Speaker 7: who was 3 of 6 from 3 at that point,
[14:34] Speaker 7: but he didn't even start for the Cavaliers. So he's
[14:36] Speaker 7: got the ball in his hands, and Donovan Mitchell is
[14:39] Speaker 7: standing on the right wing as an innocent bystander or
[14:45] Speaker 7: a guilty bystander, right? He's just over there, just standing
[14:49] Speaker 7: there like, I don't play now. I'm not part of
[14:52] Speaker 7: this team. I'm just watching. I'm having fun watching this collapse.
[14:56] Speaker 7: And Sam Merrill's like, I guess.
[15:00] Speaker 2: You guys want me to do this? You want me to.
[15:02] Speaker 4: Shoot this shot?
[15:04] Speaker 7: And he shoots it, and it takes a whole rotation
[15:08] Speaker 7: around the rim, inside the rim. And the rim spits
[15:11] Speaker 7: it out because by that point, the basketball gods said, no, Cavaliers.
[15:15] Speaker 3: You did not earn this. You're not going to get
[15:17] Speaker 3: any luck from us.
[15:19] Speaker 7: They said, you are done because this is what you deserve.
[15:24] Speaker 7: And that was that because the overtime was 14-3. The
[15:27] Speaker 7: game was over when that shot lipped. So in the end,
[15:33] Speaker 7: shame on you, Cleveland, for trading for James Harden.
[15:36] Speaker 3: That's just me.
[15:39] Speaker 1: You took it all the way over there and then
[15:40] Speaker 1: we came back.
[15:43] Speaker 2: Yeah. Hell yeah.
[15:45] Speaker 4: Wow.
[15:46] Speaker 2: Okay.
[15:46] Speaker 1: Well, Mr. B, what are your biggest takeaways from that
[15:48] Speaker 1: Knicks 22-point comeback, Cavs epic meltdown, game one of the
[15:52] Speaker 1: Eastern Conference Finals?
[15:54] Speaker 8: I mean, well, Mike Brown didn't coach good. And Kenny Agerson,
[15:59] Speaker 8: he looked like he was trying to compete to see
[16:01] Speaker 8: who can, you know, out-coach who at that time.
[16:04] Speaker 2: A mid-off? I don't know what he was doing.
[16:06] Speaker 4: So....
[16:08] Speaker 2: Let's just start there with the coaching.
[16:10] Speaker 8: You lose a 22-point lead with eight minutes to go,
[16:14] Speaker 8: which is unheard of. You have all these timeouts. You
[16:17] Speaker 8: were dependent on Mobley to be able to shoot your threes.
[16:20] Speaker 8: He was shooting eight threes.
[16:23] Speaker 2: And Donovan Mitchell, I mean, come on, man. The game
[16:25] Speaker 2: is on the line.
[16:28] Speaker 8: You're supposed to be the number one option. You give
[16:30] Speaker 8: the ball to James Harden. You go stand in the corner.
[16:32] Speaker 8: I think that's very unacceptable for a person that we
[16:35] Speaker 8: call a superstar. You know, I apologize. I might have
[16:37] Speaker 8: to unapologize just depending on how this shit don't go.
[16:43] Speaker 2: And, and, you know, the way they shit, the way
[16:45] Speaker 2: they did.
[16:45] Speaker 8: James 21 possessions, I mean, you know, just having them
[16:49] Speaker 8: out there, you know, that was just, I mean, coaching,
[16:51] Speaker 8: I mean, that was just terrible coaching. I mean, if I'm, if,
[16:54] Speaker 8: if Cleveland don't get out of this series, I wouldn't
[16:56] Speaker 8: be surprised if the coach ain't fired just off this
[16:59] Speaker 8: one game. Um, Because this is a game where now
[17:02] Speaker 8: game two, you're definitely not beating the Knicks in game two.
[17:05] Speaker 8: If you thought it was loud then, just think about
[17:07] Speaker 8: what it's going to be for game two. So we
[17:09] Speaker 8: already know this is going to be a 2-0. And,
[17:11] Speaker 8: I mean, with this momentum and the way Brunson is playing,
[17:14] Speaker 8: as long as James Harden's out there, we're just going
[17:15] Speaker 8: to keep putting them in.
[17:16] Speaker 2: Pick and roll.
[17:16] Speaker 8: So you're not going to sit him. So you guys
[17:20] Speaker 8: are just kind of basically just out of luck now.
[17:23] Speaker 8: And you guys look tired and you guys are tired
[17:26] Speaker 8: because you guys played around with Detroit. You know, you
[17:29] Speaker 8: guys went seven games with a team that only had
[17:31] Speaker 8: one guy that can score, and now you guys are
[17:33] Speaker 8: playing New York, which is way better, and energy is better.
[17:36] Speaker 8: And this guy over here, Brunson, is playing like one
[17:38] Speaker 8: of the best Knicks ever. So, yeah, I mean, man,
[17:41] Speaker 8: just good luck, and we'll see what happens.
[17:45] Speaker 2: Good luck.
[17:46] Speaker 1: Donovan Mitchell, corner with freedom in that final possession.
[17:50] Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, you're supposed to be the number one guy.
[17:52] Speaker 2: Why are we giving up? This is your team. James
[17:55] Speaker 2: just got here.
[17:56] Speaker 1: Brandon, considering taking your apology back, Yes. Considering it. Considering it, yes.
[18:01] Speaker 1: After one game. Let's shift over to this side of
[18:04] Speaker 1: the couch. Kenny, what were your biggest takeaways from the Knicks?
[18:09] Speaker 1: Getting the win, Cavs, epic meltdown in game one of
[18:11] Speaker 1: the ECF.
[18:16] Speaker 2: Yeah, no, the Knicks kept playing. Cleveland did Cleveland things. No,
[18:25] Speaker 2: it's the effort that the Knicks put Jalen Brunson saw
[18:29] Speaker 2: a couple baskets go through it energized them right it
[18:32] Speaker 2: revitalized the building um but yeah it's it's a situation
[18:38] Speaker 2: I've been a part of something similar to be honest
[18:41] Speaker 2: like we was at Boston and yeah we were big
[18:44] Speaker 2: in Boston and they came back and it was like
[18:47] Speaker 2: that and like like shell shock right but how fragile
[18:55] Speaker 2: can you be in the next game, right? It depends
[18:58] Speaker 2: on the series, right? But what I took from Kenny
[19:05] Speaker 2: Atkins not calling Tame out or taking James out was
[19:09] Speaker 2: you've been in this shit too long, bro. Hey, you got, hey.
[19:15] Speaker 2: I'm not finna, you got to try, right? You do
[19:18] Speaker 2: all that scoring and shit down here. You got to try.
[19:22] Speaker 2: And that's what I took from it. Like, if we're
[19:25] Speaker 2: not going to double, we're not going to do none
[19:27] Speaker 2: of this. Like I told Chet, got to put your
[19:30] Speaker 2: big boy pants on, James, because they're making it obvious
[19:34] Speaker 2: what they were trying to do. And Jalen Brunson had
[19:38] Speaker 2: it going, man. For a team not to double or
[19:41] Speaker 2: do anything different is weird. For players not to try
[19:47] Speaker 2: to do something different while doing one of those timeouts
[19:50] Speaker 2: that the coach didn't change the way that we're defending it.
[19:54] Speaker 2: It's just, you got Donovan over there, you got James
[19:57] Speaker 2: over there, who we look at as leaders for that team,
[20:00] Speaker 2: and no one's like, yo, they run another pick and roll,
[20:02] Speaker 2: and we're just going to trap him and get the
[20:04] Speaker 2: ball out of his hands. But they didn't do that,
[20:08] Speaker 2: and that was the result. Yeah, you had a golden
[20:14] Speaker 2: opportunity in Cleveland to get game one, which we all
[20:17] Speaker 2: know is the easiest game of the series to get.
[20:22] Speaker 2: To Donovan's point, y'all played well three and a half quarters,
[20:26] Speaker 2: which is not good enough. With, I think it was
[20:30] Speaker 2: 7.39 to go in the game to skip for seven
[20:33] Speaker 2: and a half minutes. The Cavs had a 99.9 probability
[20:36] Speaker 2: to win the game. It's, and it flips like, like that's,
[20:47] Speaker 2: that's hard to do. Like that is really hard. You
[20:50] Speaker 2: got to try to lose to do that. And they
[20:53] Speaker 2: did everything to lose the game.
[20:55] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[20:55] Speaker 2: Um, but I think the Knicks understand what the days off,
[21:00] Speaker 2: all those things might've played a factor, but you did
[21:02] Speaker 2: enough to win game one and you understand how you
[21:05] Speaker 2: need to come out of game two. Um, I like
[21:09] Speaker 2: some of the things Mike Brown did earlier, playing Mitch
[21:11] Speaker 2: Robson and Cat together, which I thought the last series
[21:15] Speaker 2: should have did, playing Stewart and Paul Reed or Paul
[21:17] Speaker 2: Reed and Duran together because you got two bigs in Cleveland. Like,
[21:22] Speaker 2: that's key, right? So you got Mitch Robson down there
[21:25] Speaker 2: wrestling with Jared Allen. That's a wash, and I think
[21:28] Speaker 2: that was good at times. Larry Shaman was a plus
[21:31] Speaker 2: 25 in nine minutes of action. You've been sitting over there.
[21:36] Speaker 2: It's like, when are you going to put me in?
[21:39] Speaker 2: Plus 25 in nine minutes of game action is unheard of.
[21:47] Speaker 2: But there was a lot of unheard ofs in this game.
[21:50] Speaker 2: The Knicks did what they had to do, man, to
[21:51] Speaker 2: come back and get game one. I'm pretty sure they'll
[21:55] Speaker 2: be more focused for game two. With them timeouts, Kenny Atkinson,
[22:00] Speaker 2: I hope he can I'm going to.
[22:01] Speaker 1: Call another one. Call another one. Kenny's timeout is right here.
[22:07] Speaker 1: Shift over to Dr. Rashad McKenzie, PhD. Rocking the butters.
[22:13] Speaker 1: Properly loosened, not choked up.
[22:15] Speaker 2: Never. Like the calf.
[22:16] Speaker 4: Never.
[22:17] Speaker 1: In that final seven minutes.
[22:18] Speaker 4: I'll really be in New York. I'm really from there.
[22:21] Speaker 4: Low key.
[22:22] Speaker 1: What were your biggest takeaways from the Knicks getting that
[22:25] Speaker 1: 22-point comeback, winning 22 points.
[22:28] Speaker 2: In the fourth quarter, 739 to go?
[22:31] Speaker 4: I mean, I guess we address multiple things. First, the
[22:36] Speaker 4: elephant in the fucking room. If we're going to talk hoop,
[22:39] Speaker 4: let's talk hoop from the totality of it, which is
[22:44] Speaker 4: the New York Knicks had time off. You can call
[22:48] Speaker 4: it ring rust. You can call it rim rust. You
[22:50] Speaker 4: can call it we ain't been on the court. That's
[22:54] Speaker 4: at a certain point when we talk the. preparation of
[22:59] Speaker 4: the game there is the team that has momentum from
[23:01] Speaker 4: playing a seven game series and they can come in
[23:04] Speaker 4: and they can hit you right in the mouth and
[23:07] Speaker 4: take the game away from you because if you really
[23:10] Speaker 4: go back and look at the game the Knicks did
[23:12] Speaker 4: not hit shots in the first half they did not
[23:15] Speaker 4: hit shots but they were still in the game at
[23:16] Speaker 4: halftime I don't think that the Cavs played good basketball
[23:20] Speaker 4: in the third in the first three quarters I think
[23:22] Speaker 4: they survived the fact that the New York Knicks were
[23:25] Speaker 4: trying to heat up and trying to get their lather
[23:27] Speaker 4: back from what they know to be winning basketball. And
[23:31] Speaker 4: so when you look at the fourth quarter, the Cavs
[23:35] Speaker 4: go up 20 points based on, I guess you could
[23:39] Speaker 4: call it turnovers. I guess you can call it just
[23:41] Speaker 4: not hitting shots. Or you could just say that the
[23:43] Speaker 4: Cavs got it going. Regardless of what that is, Jalen
[23:47] Speaker 4: Brunson knew he was going to wake up. Because like
[23:50] Speaker 4: I told you guys before, Jalen Brunson is a hell
[23:52] Speaker 4: of a hell of a basketball player. Now, the other
[23:55] Speaker 4: side of the coin, when you talk about the Cavs
[23:58] Speaker 4: as a coach, it's only so much he can do.
[24:02] Speaker 4: Kenny Atkinson only can do so much. Let's say he
[24:04] Speaker 4: does take a timeout and we we have to kumbaya.
[24:08] Speaker 4: Can you mention the word shell shock? Shell shock means
[24:11] Speaker 4: when everybody is sitting in the huddle and we don't
[24:15] Speaker 4: we have this face. This face that's like, yo, what
[24:19] Speaker 4: the fuck is happening? Right. Everybody don't know what to
[24:23] Speaker 4: say to nobody else. Everybody just straight face. But then
[24:27] Speaker 4: what I know to be true is that one leader
[24:30] Speaker 4: on that team is coming into that huddle, whether it's
[24:34] Speaker 4: a Udonis Haslam or Chucky Atkins or whoever. Anthony Carter
[24:42] Speaker 4: fucking came. Hey, wake the fuck up.
[24:45] Speaker 2: What are we doing? This ain't us.
[24:49] Speaker 4: Usually it should be the star player because he's the
[24:52] Speaker 4: one that has to answer the message. So when that
[24:55] Speaker 4: star player, which should have been Donovan Mitchell. Hey, let's go.
[25:01] Speaker 4: Fuck this. Hey, look, they made their run. We have
[25:04] Speaker 4: to make ours. The only way we sustain our lead
[25:08] Speaker 4: is if we answer the run. So if we don't
[25:11] Speaker 4: answer the run, they're going to get back in this
[25:14] Speaker 4: game because they have home court advantage. The team and
[25:18] Speaker 4: the crowd are energized. We have to take it out.
[25:22] Speaker 4: Now we go back. You look at Michael Jordan in
[25:24] Speaker 4: the garden. Kobe Bryant in the garden when they have
[25:27] Speaker 4: that run. Reggie Miller in the garden. When I hit
[25:30] Speaker 4: that shot and that crowd goes crazy. Reggie again, Michael again,
[25:37] Speaker 4: Kobe again, Paul Pierce again, whoever it is, it gives
[25:41] Speaker 4: everybody back down to the earth. That did not happen
[25:45] Speaker 4: because neither one of those star players, James Harden or
[25:48] Speaker 4: Donovan Mitchell, had the guts to get the team together
[25:52] Speaker 4: and say, give me the ball, I got it. James
[25:55] Speaker 4: made a little step back.
[25:56] Speaker 2: In the middle of the lane.
[25:58] Speaker 4: It wasn't enough. We already had enough momentum and we've
[26:02] Speaker 4: been picking you out. The other thing is, who's going
[26:05] Speaker 4: to tell James that he needs to step the fuck up?
[26:09] Speaker 4: Who's holding James accountable for a look, bro? What are
[26:14] Speaker 4: you going to do? He's coming at you. It don't
[26:16] Speaker 4: matter who we put you on.
[26:18] Speaker 2: We don't have to. He didn't play enough playoff games.
[26:23] Speaker 2: We're a team.
[26:23] Speaker 4: We're a team. We're a team.
[26:26] Speaker 2: We're a team.
[26:28] Speaker 4: Hey, James, you want to switch this? You want to
[26:31] Speaker 4: switch this?
[26:31] Speaker 2: Are we going to double this?
[26:34] Speaker 4: Ain't too many baskets I'm going to sit back and
[26:37] Speaker 4: watch without me saying something to James or the coach. Hey, listen, man.
[26:42] Speaker 1: Do you think he recognized that at some point?
[26:44] Speaker 2: Man, listen. You know the motherfucker. You know somebody scored
[26:48] Speaker 2: two straight buckets on you. You know somebody scored two
[26:52] Speaker 2: straight on you. So what are we doing as a group?
[26:56] Speaker 2: How are we going to do it? Our man is
[26:57] Speaker 2: on the island. Our man is on the island. That's
[27:00] Speaker 2: my man's.
[27:01] Speaker 4: He on the island. Hey, listen, James, you see what
[27:04] Speaker 4: they doing. You have to show some backbone or we
[27:08] Speaker 4: got to double this.
[27:09] Speaker 2: We haven't called a timeout. We can't make no adjustment.
[27:11] Speaker 2: We got to do something. We just out there. He
[27:13] Speaker 2: just letting us play. We just out there. No, it's
[27:15] Speaker 2: on James. Right. You know the pick and roll coming.
[27:18] Speaker 2: Or it's on Donovan. How about this? What about Donovan?
[27:20] Speaker 2: I got it. Back two. I got it.
[27:23] Speaker 4: But they both got five fouls. They both got five.
[27:27] Speaker 2: They're going to seek James out either way it goes.
[27:29] Speaker 2: No matter.
[27:29] Speaker 4: He can be guard Mobley. He can be guard Allen.
[27:31] Speaker 4: Come get the pick.
[27:32] Speaker 2: Whatever way they was going to do it, they was
[27:33] Speaker 2: going to try to get James on Jalen Brunson, right?
[27:35] Speaker 2: That's my thing. Listen. Hey, we're going to jump him.
[27:39] Speaker 2: We're going to jump him. It's that simple. Just keep
[27:42] Speaker 2: beating your ass, bro. We're about to jump him. We're
[27:45] Speaker 2: not going to keep switching. He jabbing the fuck out you, bro. Look,
[27:49] Speaker 2: duck a little bit. They made the call, man. They
[27:53] Speaker 2: made the call. That comeback was crazy. Fight back.
[27:57] Speaker 8: It looked like he was coaching on his way out. Like, yo, listen,
[28:01] Speaker 8: I'm going to just let this go because I don't...
[28:03] Speaker 8: Like you said.
[28:03] Speaker 3: You're talking.
[28:06] Speaker 2: They decided... Listen, I think the NBA was like, no, listen,
[28:09] Speaker 2: we can't let the Cavs go up 1-0. Nah, nah, nah.
[28:12] Speaker 2: The Knicks got to be 1-0.
[28:14] Speaker 4: You're talking about an experienced team?
[28:15] Speaker 1: The league called Kenny Atkinson.
[28:17] Speaker 5: No, no, no.
[28:18] Speaker 4: I mean, I'm just saying. Don't use your timeout, Kenny.
[28:20] Speaker 4: We're talking about an experienced team, right? We're talking about vets.
[28:23] Speaker 4: We're talking about a bunch of guys who know how
[28:24] Speaker 4: to play the game. Schroeder, all those guys over there.
[28:28] Speaker 2: Schroeder, Harden, Mitchell. But James is the only one that's
[28:32] Speaker 2: ever played in the finals, right?
[28:34] Speaker 4: Probably.
[28:34] Speaker 2: And over there. And Max Struess. Max Struess. And been
[28:38] Speaker 2: to the Western. Oh, yeah.
[28:39] Speaker 1: Okay.
[28:40] Speaker 4: So you're looking at an opportunity for that whole team
[28:44] Speaker 4: to look at each other and say, like, what are
[28:46] Speaker 4: we going to do? What are we going to do? Now,
[28:48] Speaker 4: I got a shout-out to my boy, Barrington Edwards, who
[28:50] Speaker 4: was talking about picking. He wanted some information on who
[28:54] Speaker 4: to pick between Evan Mobley and Jared Allen as far as, oh, man,
[28:57] Speaker 4: is Jared Allen going to give me 10 points tonight?
[29:00] Speaker 2: And I'm like, eh. Is Evan Mobley going to give
[29:03] Speaker 2: me more than 15? Eh.
[29:05] Speaker 4: Because it's tricky. It's depending on who you're playing, how
[29:09] Speaker 4: you're playing, and the momentum of the game. And I'm like,
[29:12] Speaker 4: the way these guys playing after the first quarter, I
[29:14] Speaker 4: don't see it. Why don't I see it? Why don't
[29:17] Speaker 4: I see it? They're not in there to win it,
[29:20] Speaker 4: like Skip said. They found a way to lose the
[29:23] Speaker 4: game because they wasn't playing to win the game. You
[29:26] Speaker 4: grow up 30 after being up 22 and 8.
[29:29] Speaker 2: Eight minutes left. No, they was playing to win the
[29:31] Speaker 2: first three quarters.
[29:32] Speaker 4: No, they was playing to survive. They was trying to survive.
[29:35] Speaker 2: No, they were playing.
[29:37] Speaker 4: Third quarter, they went up. Well, fourth quarter they went up.
[29:39] Speaker 4: Beginning of the fourth was when they started to actually play.
[29:42] Speaker 4: The first three quarters was we got to make sure
[29:45] Speaker 4: they don't be.
[29:46] Speaker 2: New York in New York. We just sustain.
[29:49] Speaker 4: We just make sure we in the game. And the fourth,
[29:52] Speaker 4: we figure out that James can take us home or Donovan.
[29:55] Speaker 2: Can take us home.
[29:55] Speaker 4: Donovan didn't touch the ball, though. Neither one of them
[29:57] Speaker 4: showed up. You can't be Superman taking a break.
[30:01] Speaker 3: No.
[30:02] Speaker 2: You stuck in the fucking booth. What you doing, bro?
[30:04] Speaker 2: Superman no off day. Come on, man. You don't get
[30:06] Speaker 2: stuck in the booth.
[30:07] Speaker 1: Memorial Day, he can't.
[30:09] Speaker 2: No, man. No kryptonite for that. Labor Day, no labor. No, man.
[30:12] Speaker 4: But look, the look on his face, that Donovan Mitchell look.
[30:16] Speaker 4: That's scary shit. He's scary.
[30:19] Speaker 3: I've seen him be scary.
[30:21] Speaker 7: And to your point, first he needed to take over
[30:24] Speaker 7: the huddle and say, this is not going to happen.
[30:27] Speaker 7: And then he has to back it up on the
[30:29] Speaker 7: court by saying, give me the damn ball and get
[30:32] Speaker 7: out of my way.
[30:32] Speaker 2: I got it, yes.
[30:33] Speaker 3: Just give me the ball.
[30:34] Speaker 2: Yeah, the last possession, the ball definitely should have been
[30:36] Speaker 2: in his hand.
[30:36] Speaker 3: Come on.
[30:37] Speaker 4: Five minutes left.
[30:39] Speaker 2: Even if that.
[30:40] Speaker 3: Okay.
[30:41] Speaker 2: The last possession when Sam Merrill took the three. Yeah,
[30:43] Speaker 2: he didn't touch the ball when James had it. James
[30:45] Speaker 2: had it. The ball should have been in Donovan Mitchell's hand.
[30:47] Speaker 2: What are you doing?
[30:47] Speaker 3: But it's like he quit.
[30:49] Speaker 2: He didn't want it. He didn't want the ball.
[30:51] Speaker 3: He just went over and stood on the side like,
[30:52] Speaker 3: I'm good.
[30:53] Speaker 4: Guess where he's from.
[30:54] Speaker 2: I mean, it's his first.
[30:55] Speaker 4: Guess where Donovan Mitchell's from.
[30:57] Speaker 3: You mean Westchester, like New York?
[30:59] Speaker 2: New York.
[31:00] Speaker 3: Yeah, okay.
[31:01] Speaker 4: He's from New York.
[31:02] Speaker 1: 45 minutes away from the city, though.
[31:04] Speaker 2: The state.
[31:05] Speaker 4: The state.
[31:05] Speaker 2: But there's a very, New York, very big state. He's
[31:07] Speaker 2: New York state. A lot of stuff going on.
[31:09] Speaker 1: In New York.
[31:10] Speaker 4: Right?
[31:10] Speaker 2: So you know this energy in here. You know what
[31:13] Speaker 2: this is. Yeah.
[31:14] Speaker 7: I mean, his father worked for the Mets, right? So
[31:17] Speaker 7: he grew up in the culture of the city.
[31:21] Speaker 2: Okay.
[31:22] Speaker 7: And then the other crazy thing to me, the stat
[31:25] Speaker 7: of the night is, the Knicks won points in the
[31:28] Speaker 7: paint 60-38. And guess who was scoring the points in
[31:33] Speaker 7: the paint for the Knicks? The guy who's six feet tall.
[31:38] Speaker 7: And you've got Jared Allen and Evan Mobley. I'm not
[31:43] Speaker 7: saying they're a dynamic.
[31:44] Speaker 2: Duo, but they're pretty good.
[31:45] Speaker 1: They're playing very well.
[31:46] Speaker 7: Yeah, and they can command the paint, and they can
[31:51] Speaker 7: make it hard.
[31:51] Speaker 2: They're not two whimbies, but they.
[31:54] Speaker 7: they can make it hard on people driving the basketball.
[31:57] Speaker 3: Because there are two of them.
[31:59] Speaker 7: And it's like they stopped playing too because Jalen Bernstein
[32:03] Speaker 7: just kept getting, he's scoring points.
[32:05] Speaker 3: In the paint.
[32:06] Speaker 7: He's scoring little runners up off high off the glass tables.
[32:09] Speaker 7: He is making you look silly, and it started with James,
[32:13] Speaker 7: but once he gets past James, which is no problem,
[32:16] Speaker 7: then we're the two quote-unquote twin towers.
[32:19] Speaker 3: Where are they? Occupied.
[32:21] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[32:21] Speaker 4: They're occupied.
[32:22] Speaker 2: You think about points in the paint all game, 60
[32:24] Speaker 2: to 38. Yep.
[32:26] Speaker 4: New York, 60-38. That means Jalen Brunson is not settling
[32:30] Speaker 4: for the three. That means Carl Anthony Towns is not
[32:33] Speaker 4: settling for the three. That means I'm getting Shamit, OG,
[32:37] Speaker 4: all of these guys, good quality shots that they.
[32:39] Speaker 2: Just were not hitting. And scored 38 points and made 1-3.
[32:44] Speaker 2: Won three. Big three.
[32:45] Speaker 7: By the way, the starting lineup for the Knicks, the
[32:48] Speaker 7: five starters, went six of 26.
[32:51] Speaker 3: From three for the whole game. Six of 26. If
[32:53] Speaker 3: you told me that before the game started, I'd say
[32:56] Speaker 3: they're in trouble, man.
[32:57] Speaker 4: Yeah, blown out.
[32:58] Speaker 7: But it didn't matter because they were 60 to 38
[33:01] Speaker 7: in points in the paint, to your point.
[33:04] Speaker 4: The one thing the Knicks always do, though, they fight back.
[33:07] Speaker 4: When given the opportunity to fight back, if we see
[33:10] Speaker 4: any weakness in your fight, we know we can bring
[33:13] Speaker 4: our Josh Hart to the table.
[33:15] Speaker 3: They can.
[33:15] Speaker 2: And they did. And you look at the actual threes
[33:19] Speaker 2: Cleveland kept shooting. They were 16 for 50? They were.
[33:23] Speaker 2: Shot for 50 threes.
[33:24] Speaker 3: For 50.
[33:25] Speaker 4: So you look at the opportunity for second chance points
[33:28] Speaker 4: that you didn't get because you didn't get no offensive rebounds.
[33:31] Speaker 4: But you look at us. We get the stop. We
[33:33] Speaker 4: get a rebound and we're not going to settle for
[33:35] Speaker 4: the three. We're going to chip away like Jalen Brunson said.
[33:38] Speaker 4: Let's chip away at this lead. You cannot eat an
[33:41] Speaker 4: elephant in one bite. You have to chip away every
[33:45] Speaker 4: single stop. You practice this in practice. We get three stops.
[33:49] Speaker 4: We get a point. We're trying to get to five.
[33:52] Speaker 4: Three stops, point. Three stops, point. Three stops, point. Next
[33:55] Speaker 4: thing you know, it's five to two. We win because
[33:58] Speaker 4: we got more stops than you got buckets.
[34:00] Speaker 2: And that's the best part about the game right now.
[34:02] Speaker 7: Okay, but it did help that Landry Schammett finally got
[34:05] Speaker 7: a shot and made three big shots. One was pretty lucky,
[34:09] Speaker 7: but he started the whole comeback with the first.
[34:13] Speaker 3: One that he made. And I love Landry Schammett.
[34:17] Speaker 2: He's a game-time bucket.
[34:19] Speaker 3: Wherever he's been.
[34:20] Speaker 7: he just comes in and just lights it up, and
[34:22] Speaker 7: he's not afraid, and he's going to change the energy.
[34:25] Speaker 7: He's got some Ginobili in him where he just comes
[34:27] Speaker 7: in and everything, and he'll fight you on defense too.
[34:31] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[34:32] Speaker 7: And he was the X factor in the comeback because
[34:35] Speaker 7: the starters aren't making threes, but he made three huge ones.
[34:39] Speaker 8: Okay, what– Well, I mean, when they were doubling, you know,
[34:43] Speaker 8: OG got in the lane and– Yeah.
[34:44] Speaker 2: I mean, you.
[34:45] Speaker 8: Know, they were able to hit some threes, so they
[34:47] Speaker 8: were trying to. It was just– Yeah. The guys were
[34:49] Speaker 8: just stepping up, like. Two at the same time.
[34:51] Speaker 4: What do you do if you're Mobley and Allen, knowing
[34:55] Speaker 4: that they're needed like they were in the first half?
[34:59] Speaker 4: Come in in the second half, you're shooting all these threes,
[35:02] Speaker 4: both of them are on the outside. How do you
[35:05] Speaker 4: get yourself into the game at that point? As a big,
[35:09] Speaker 4: in that time.
[35:09] Speaker 2: No, what Jared Allen is offensive rebounder. So his job
[35:12] Speaker 2: is the offensive rebound and defensive rebound and block a
[35:15] Speaker 2: shot or two, so. That's his contribution. And if he's
[35:18] Speaker 2: getting the little pocket pass where he can roll and
[35:21] Speaker 2: do his little one right hand, big hand layup and
[35:24] Speaker 2: those things, that's one thing. But Evan Mobley, on the
[35:28] Speaker 2: other hand, they need his offense in order for them
[35:31] Speaker 2: to have success. 15 points. And him being on the
[35:36] Speaker 2: perimeter is not the answer. A few times where they switched,
[35:39] Speaker 2: he had a small on him. He did take him
[35:41] Speaker 2: to the block. They did look for him.
[35:42] Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
[35:43] Speaker 2: Jalen Brunson got stuck down there a couple times and
[35:45] Speaker 2: they did look for him in that instant. I think
[35:48] Speaker 2: it needs to be more of that. I think you
[35:49] Speaker 2: got to force feed him. He's not going to demand
[35:53] Speaker 2: the ball, so it's on Kenny Atkinson, it's on James,
[35:56] Speaker 2: it's on Donovan Mitchell to be guards, right? And realize
[36:01] Speaker 2: that big hasn't had a touch in four or five possessions, right?
[36:05] Speaker 2: Run something to get him a touch. Yeah, because it's
[36:11] Speaker 2: unfortunate that we are at times relying on guards as bigs, right?
[36:18] Speaker 2: And once the flow of the game and certain plays
[36:22] Speaker 2: are called and certain guys get it going or not
[36:23] Speaker 2: get it going and they're trying to search for their game,
[36:25] Speaker 2: bigs can get lost in the fray.
[36:27] Speaker 4: Facts.
[36:29] Speaker 2: And then the old saying, go get it off the glass. Well, no,
[36:32] Speaker 2: you can run something for me as well, right? But
[36:37] Speaker 2: Jared Allen's job is to keep the plays alive, offensive rebounds.
[36:40] Speaker 2: So his energy is needed. more than buckets, I think.
[36:45] Speaker 2: If he plays with that energy like he has in
[36:47] Speaker 2: the last two game sevens, if you look at his
[36:52] Speaker 2: numbers in the last two game sevens, astronomical, right? That
[36:56] Speaker 2: energy is needed the first six games. He plays well,
[36:59] Speaker 2: but you just see for some reason when it's on
[37:01] Speaker 2: the line, he just balls to the wall. He goes
[37:07] Speaker 2: all out and big time double-doubles in both of those games,
[37:11] Speaker 2: closeout games. But, yeah, Evan Mobley needs someone, James or Donovan,
[37:19] Speaker 2: to call his number, right? Not for me to be
[37:21] Speaker 2: standing over in the corner. It's not my best attribute.
[37:23] Speaker 2: I can shoot it, but I'm an athlete. I'm agile.
[37:28] Speaker 2: I need to be making plays on the move. You're
[37:30] Speaker 2: running little pitch backs for me. You use my athleticism.
[37:33] Speaker 2: And if I get a small on me instead of
[37:35] Speaker 2: forcing a three, let's throw the ball down to me.
[37:38] Speaker 2: So that's what Evan Mobley can get himself going, I think.
[37:42] Speaker 4: Who's the X factor in this particular game? Who changed
[37:45] Speaker 4: the game for both sides? Well, let's just say the Knicks.
[37:47] Speaker 4: Fuck it.
[37:48] Speaker 2: Oh, Larry Shaman was the X factor. Normally it's Mitchell
[37:50] Speaker 2: Robinson because his offense rebounded. But it was Larry Shaman.
[37:54] Speaker 2: It was the one three that Jordan Clarkson made. It
[37:57] Speaker 2: was little things like that that kept them afloat where
[38:00] Speaker 2: they just didn't get buried all together, I think.
[38:03] Speaker 1: What do y'all think of Mikael Bridges as well?
[38:06] Speaker 2: I was going to say one of them two, but
[38:09] Speaker 2: then I had to think about it.
[38:11] Speaker 4: O.G.? OG went two for nine, one for six. It
[38:16] Speaker 4: was eight for ten from the free throw line. But
[38:18] Speaker 4: the things he did was not on the stat sheet.
[38:21] Speaker 2: Driving the lanes.
[38:22] Speaker 4: Off that pick and pop with Jalen Brunson, forcing them
[38:26] Speaker 4: to collapse, pushing the ball out, getting those guys. I
[38:29] Speaker 4: think it came from him stretching the floor, being the stretcher.
[38:33] Speaker 4: You're playing Mitchell Robinson and Cat in the same time.
[38:38] Speaker 4: that leaves you a little bit vulnerable to being in
[38:40] Speaker 4: the paint. That's harder for Jalen Brunson to get inside
[38:43] Speaker 4: without getting blocked. But when you stretch the floor with OG,
[38:46] Speaker 4: now you got a guy that you can pick and
[38:48] Speaker 4: pop with and you have to full rotate. And I
[38:50] Speaker 4: think that's what happened during the run is they were
[38:52] Speaker 4: doing the pick and pop with OG. He's wide open.
[38:55] Speaker 4: Now you're forcing the rotation. Swing, swing, drive. He gets
[38:59] Speaker 4: a layup on Mobley. Swing, swing, drive. He passes it
[39:03] Speaker 4: to the corner. Like these are things I think OG,
[39:06] Speaker 4: if you think about it, He wasn't available. We don't
[39:09] Speaker 4: know if he's going to play or not. He comes
[39:11] Speaker 4: back in. We don't know how rusty he's going to be.
[39:13] Speaker 4: But he looked athletic. He's out there trying to dunk
[39:16] Speaker 4: on guys. He played defense. He moved his feet. He
[39:19] Speaker 4: didn't hit shots like he usually does. But just imagine
[39:21] Speaker 4: if he starts. And I think Deshamet and Mikael Bridges
[39:25] Speaker 4: did what they're supposed to do. They're contracted to be
[39:28] Speaker 4: the guys they were. And I could. vote them in
[39:30] Speaker 4: as that, but I would say OG was the game
[39:33] Speaker 4: changer with his energy and effort.
[39:35] Speaker 2: All right.
[39:36] Speaker 7: So would you guys allow me to just quickly hit
[39:40] Speaker 7: the lowlights of James Harden's playoff flameouts.
[39:43] Speaker 1: Skip, you're always hitting the lowlights here. Can we mix
[39:46] Speaker 1: in some positivity as well?
[39:48] Speaker 4: Not when you lose, young. There's no positivity when you lose.
[39:51] Speaker 7: This is a classic James Harden night. And tell me
[39:56] Speaker 7: if I'm wrong about this.
[39:57] Speaker 3: Because maybe I am. But here are the facts.
[40:00] Speaker 7: And I'll start with this year's playoffs. They play Toronto.
[40:03] Speaker 7: It goes seven games in the first round. And then
[40:07] Speaker 7: the two games at Toronto, three and four, he has
[40:10] Speaker 7: eight turnovers and seven turnovers. Then we go to Detroit
[40:13] Speaker 7: game one, seven turnovers, one of seven from three. And
[40:18] Speaker 7: then Detroit game two, three of 13 and O of
[40:21] Speaker 7: four from three. And then that classic game five, he's
[40:26] Speaker 7: going down the stretch in the last two and a
[40:29] Speaker 7: half minutes when obviously the nine-point lead was blown and
[40:33] Speaker 7: the Cavs came back. But James was trying his best
[40:37] Speaker 7: to give it away. He goes 1 of 8 in
[40:39] Speaker 7: the last two and a half minutes in overtime, 0
[40:41] Speaker 7: of 3 from 3 with three big missed free throws
[40:44] Speaker 7: in overtime and three turnovers.
[40:46] Speaker 3: But they still survive and win.
[40:48] Speaker 7: Then game six, they're supposed to close out at home,
[40:51] Speaker 7: close out Detroit, and he has eight turnovers. And then
[40:54] Speaker 7: game seven, they win by 31, but James Harden in
[40:58] Speaker 7: that game goes 2 of 10, 0 of 6 from 3,
[40:59] Speaker 7: and somehow they win 125 to 94, okay? Quickly, last year,
[41:06] Speaker 7: Game 7, remember, he's a Clipper, and they're at Denver
[41:09] Speaker 7: in Game 7. They get it to seven games, and
[41:11] Speaker 7: in that game, he just completely disappears and quits shooting.
[41:14] Speaker 7: He goes two of eight, one of four from three,
[41:16] Speaker 7: and is a minus 29 in that big Game 7
[41:21] Speaker 7: at Denver. Then three other quick classics. There's the one
[41:25] Speaker 7: at Houston. It's Game 7 against Golden State.
[41:28] Speaker 3: It's 2018. He goes two of 13 from three.
[41:32] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a famous 27 straight.
[41:34] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[41:35] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[41:37] Speaker 3: Game six.
[41:38] Speaker 2: Was that OCP? What's that? No, Chris Paul.
[41:40] Speaker 3: No, they didn't have Chris Paul. They lost him. He
[41:43] Speaker 3: once again pulled his hamstring, which he pulled many times.
[41:47] Speaker 4: All right.
[41:48] Speaker 7: The classic Spurs game was game six at Houston in 2018.
[41:54] Speaker 7: I'm sorry, 2017. And the Spurs don't have Kawhi and
[41:58] Speaker 7: don't have Tony Parker for this game. Again, it's in Houston,
[42:02] Speaker 7: and James has six turnovers and goes two of 11
[42:04] Speaker 7: from the floor and two of nine from three. And
[42:07] Speaker 7: then the all-time game was the game five at Golden
[42:10] Speaker 7: State back in 2015, in which he set the all-time
[42:14] Speaker 7: NBA playoff record for turnovers in a playoff game with 12.
[42:20] Speaker 3: I don't know. It's consistent. When you need him the most,
[42:24] Speaker 3: he'll give you the least. That's just me.
[42:26] Speaker 7: And he is a great basketball player. He obviously, his resume,
[42:33] Speaker 7: he's obviously a Hall of Famer. He's a first ballot
[42:36] Speaker 7: Hall of Famer. But this screams, you know, hide your eyes, man.
[42:42] Speaker 7: You better be careful if you're going to lean on him.
[42:45] Speaker 7: And you talked yesterday, what is he? Well, he became
[42:49] Speaker 7: their facilitator, their point guard, when he is a classic
[42:54] Speaker 7: scoring guy.
[42:55] Speaker 3: Or he's a two guard. I don't know. In his
[42:59] Speaker 3: MVP year, he was a two guard. But can he pass?
[43:02] Speaker 3: Sure he can pass the basketball.
[43:03] Speaker 7: And they thought, well, give him the two bigs and
[43:06] Speaker 7: he can just pick and roll all day and just
[43:08] Speaker 7: drive you nuts. Well, he just, he's a turnover waiting
[43:11] Speaker 7: to happen. And then you want to talk about hot
[43:15] Speaker 7: cold from three, he's mostly cold from three. Where if
[43:18] Speaker 7: he gets it going cold, it's just cold. And the
[43:22] Speaker 7: crucial moment last night was the late, He just missed everything.
[43:27] Speaker 7: And when you miss everything, your team's like, oh, God.
[43:30] Speaker 3: You know, like, that's it.
[43:32] Speaker 8: Do you think he should play closer to the basket
[43:34] Speaker 8: at his age, James? Like, instead of being on the three,
[43:39] Speaker 8: because of his size, and he's so good with the
[43:41] Speaker 8: step back and still being able to score. Do you
[43:43] Speaker 8: think he should just get it at that mid-post or
[43:46] Speaker 8: on that wing now at his age?
[43:48] Speaker 2: They don't make the plays they run. I agree with you, yeah,
[43:50] Speaker 2: but because it's a foot speed thing now.
[43:52] Speaker 4: Exactly.
[43:52] Speaker 2: So I'm just thinking like to make it easier.
[43:55] Speaker 4: He's not comfortable doing that. He's not comfortable doing that.
[43:58] Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's just the offense thing they run. I mean,
[44:01] Speaker 2: but you're a scorer, right? So how hard is it
[44:03] Speaker 2: just to, shit, we're closer.
[44:05] Speaker 4: No, you would think that.
[44:06] Speaker 8: I'm closer now. Just get it to me right here.
[44:08] Speaker 8: I'm way more of a threat. And now if anybody comes,
[44:11] Speaker 8: I'm still a passer. And I still can do my thing.
[44:13] Speaker 8: I think him being around that three-point line is taking
[44:15] Speaker 8: too much energy, trying to get off, trying to do this.
[44:18] Speaker 8: It's like now, it's like at the age, just give
[44:19] Speaker 8: me this shit right here, like a mellow, like whatever.
[44:22] Speaker 4: And let's get right to it. I got a question
[44:25] Speaker 4: for you. As a point guard, James is playing bad.
[44:31] Speaker 4: Fourth quarter. Comeback is ensuing. Do you sub him? You
[44:37] Speaker 4: the point. Let's say you're Schroeder. You're on the bench. Coach,
[44:40] Speaker 4: throw me in there. I can... If he's not, we're
[44:43] Speaker 4: saying James, without offense, what are you for us if
[44:47] Speaker 4: you're not giving us James Harden offense? I can throw
[44:51] Speaker 4: Dennis Schroeder in there and we can make it the
[44:53] Speaker 4: Donovan Mitchell show. So I'm asking you, what would you
[44:56] Speaker 4: think A timeout substitution would be ice James out for
[45:01] Speaker 4: the fourth and get us into the overtime.
[45:05] Speaker 1: I mean, Kenny Atkinson did say that he thought Harden
[45:08] Speaker 1: was playing good defense by and large in that game.
[45:10] Speaker 2: I mean, they were definitely they were trying. I mean, but.
[45:14] Speaker 2: I mean, that's tough.
[45:15] Speaker 8: I mean, this is the first time we've seen that, though,
[45:17] Speaker 8: from James. Like, I mean, what other I mean, they
[45:19] Speaker 8: got they've been winning.
[45:20] Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
[45:21] Speaker 4: But he's been playing bad.
[45:22] Speaker 8: But they've still been– I mean, at the end of
[45:25] Speaker 8: the day, they still– it's one game at the end
[45:26] Speaker 8: of the day.
[45:27] Speaker 4: No adjustment. No adjustment in the 22– 22-point comeback.
[45:31] Speaker 8: The timeout is for me to make the adjustments right now.
[45:34] Speaker 8: I would have did that. But what adjustment would you
[45:36] Speaker 8: have made? Am I bringing Dennis in? Yeah, I like
[45:39] Speaker 8: Dennis because Dennis Stoder, he don't care. One thing about it,
[45:43] Speaker 8: he don't care. He's going to play hard. He's going
[45:45] Speaker 8: to pick up 94 feet. I'm not going to have
[45:47] Speaker 8: to worry about it.
[45:47] Speaker 2: He can make shots too. Yeah, and he can make shots.
[45:49] Speaker 7: Last night he was one for nine, but he also
[45:52] Speaker 7: led them with five assists. So to your point, he's
[45:55] Speaker 7: capable of just.
[45:56] Speaker 8: He's capable of still getting in the middle of the lane.
[46:00] Speaker 8: But he also, remember he had that stunt in Detroit.
[46:02] Speaker 8: When he was playing against the Knicks, he was in Detroit.
[46:04] Speaker 8: So he still has it in him. So he's just
[46:06] Speaker 8: one of those guys to where, shit, the defense will
[46:08] Speaker 8: still come down here to three.
[46:09] Speaker 4: Yes, that's what I'm asking.
[46:10] Speaker 2: He's definitely one of those guys, though. And we just
[46:13] Speaker 2: traded for James Harden. No, no, for sure. No, no,
[46:15] Speaker 2: I get it. No, I just seen Detroit, too, sit
[46:19] Speaker 2: down their all-star. Absolutely. It was like, yo, bro, listen
[46:21] Speaker 2: to me. You can sit this one out tonight.
[46:23] Speaker 4: Just tonight.
[46:24] Speaker 2: Paul Reed got his shit going.
[46:26] Speaker 8: You know, so we've seen it happen.
[46:28] Speaker 1: 22-year-old, 36-year-old, can you imagine making a big trade deadline?
[46:33] Speaker 2: My pride has to kick in at some point, but
[46:34] Speaker 2: if you've never, like, been that, If you ain't never
[46:43] Speaker 2: relied on that side of the ball to be somewhat
[46:46] Speaker 2: a part of your makeup, you're not going to turn
[46:50] Speaker 2: the switch on when somebody's attacking you. You just, you can't.
[46:54] Speaker 2: Why not? Because you can't change the spots on the
[46:59] Speaker 2: leopard and the stripes on the zebra. You can't.
[47:09] Speaker 4: That means you can't ask us to stop criticizing you either.
[47:11] Speaker 2: Well, that's fine. It comes hand in hand, right? It
[47:15] Speaker 2: comes hand in hand, right? I would try not to
[47:17] Speaker 2: get on the pal on James playing bad all the
[47:22] Speaker 2: time thing when the games count. But stats and things
[47:27] Speaker 2: be out there. Numbers fly around and you hear things
[47:30] Speaker 2: and like the fact that you've had 40, 50 games
[47:36] Speaker 2: where you've had more turnovers than you have baskets is alarming.
[47:40] Speaker 4: 43 in the playoffs.
[47:42] Speaker 2: That's like 40 games, 40, 45 games where you've had
[47:46] Speaker 2: more turnovers than buckets is bad business.
[47:52] Speaker 4: But you want me to keep them in the game
[47:53] Speaker 4: and you're not playing no defense either?
[47:56] Speaker 2: That's the one thing.
[47:56] Speaker 4: If we turn your water off and you can't play
[47:59] Speaker 4: no defense, you gotta be able to stand on pride.
[48:02] Speaker 2: That ship sailed when he was playing for D'Antoni.
[48:07] Speaker 4: But you said we brought him in to help us
[48:09] Speaker 4: win the championship and we traded for him.
[48:11] Speaker 2: But that set you down because you can't defend shit?
[48:15] Speaker 2: Ship sale went down. But I'm not saying that. With
[48:17] Speaker 2: the 60-point triple-double shit and all that. That shit been set.
[48:20] Speaker 4: I'm saying sit your ass down because you're not hitting
[48:22] Speaker 4: the shots that we need you to.
[48:24] Speaker 2: So you want it to be like the commercial when
[48:26] Speaker 2: the ball went out of bounds on dude and be like, coach,
[48:29] Speaker 2: take me out because I can't guard him. No, let's
[48:31] Speaker 2: do it. Remember the Titans. Hey, coach.
[48:35] Speaker 4: Put... Put Pee-Wee in.
[48:37] Speaker 2: Put Pee-Wee in. Or just put all three of them in.
[48:40] Speaker 8: Or just move James somewhere else and put Dennis Schroeder in.
[48:43] Speaker 2: That's what I'm thinking. Or Schroeder.
[48:45] Speaker 4: Somebody that's going to give us something on this end
[48:48] Speaker 4: where he's attacking us.
[48:49] Speaker 2: I keep getting James in and Donovan in. I would too.
[48:52] Speaker 2: Because they're all threats. They going to do what they
[48:56] Speaker 2: have to do to find James Harden out there, bro.
[48:59] Speaker 2: They proved it. No, that's fine. They proved it. If
[49:02] Speaker 2: he's in the– we're trapping. We got it. We make a– yes.
[49:06] Speaker 2: We're trapping.
[49:07] Speaker 4: Anytime James is in the.
[49:08] Speaker 2: Action, we're trapping. Yep, we're trapping. That should be the message.
[49:11] Speaker 2: We're just trapping.
[49:12] Speaker 1: I'm out.
[49:13] Speaker 2: We make that adjustment. That should be the message. Maybe
[49:16] Speaker 2: tonight you're going to have to have 30. Whatever. Like
[49:18] Speaker 2: they did with Caruso. Same way they did. Same way
[49:21] Speaker 2: they played with Caruso, right? We're going to double SGA.
[49:25] Speaker 2: And if Caruso make eight threes tonight.
[49:28] Speaker 4: We're living with it.
[49:29] Speaker 2: He shot 13 of them. He made eight. He won't
[49:32] Speaker 2: make eight again.
[49:33] Speaker 5: Right?
[49:33] Speaker 2: That's my thing. He won't go eight for 30. And
[49:36] Speaker 2: that's the way you have to play it. If you're
[49:38] Speaker 2: going to have James out there, That needs to be
[49:40] Speaker 2: the message. Anytime Jalen Brunson has the ball and James
[49:44] Speaker 2: Harden is the primary on him, we are double teaming.
[49:49] Speaker 2: We are jumping him. No ifs, ands, nor buts about it.
[49:53] Speaker 2: Do y'all understand that? And if you don't do it,
[49:55] Speaker 2: you come sit next to me. No, I was about
[49:56] Speaker 2: to say that too. If it's a pick and roll,
[49:59] Speaker 2: now we're going into scheme now. So we double in James.
[50:02] Speaker 2: I mean, we double in Brunson. We pick who we
[50:04] Speaker 2: want to shoot the ball.
[50:05] Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. So now you got the pick
[50:07] Speaker 4: between Landry... OG or Bridges? He just threw him out there.
[50:13] Speaker 4: He three for three.
[50:13] Speaker 2: What I'm saying, but he has just put him out there.
[50:15] Speaker 2: So we're talking about for game two, right? Yeah.
[50:17] Speaker 4: The start of game two.
[50:19] Speaker 2: We know the game. What are we doing?
[50:21] Speaker 4: Okay.
[50:21] Speaker 2: This is what we're doing. If James Harden is on
[50:25] Speaker 2: Jalen Brunson.
[50:26] Speaker 4: We're going at him.
[50:27] Speaker 2: We are jumping him.
[50:28] Speaker 4: Full rotation?
[50:29] Speaker 2: No, we're going to pick who we want to shoot
[50:32] Speaker 2: the ball. How you going to do that?
[50:34] Speaker 4: Let's say it's side pick and roll. Side pick and roll.
[50:37] Speaker 4: Corner field. Corner field.
[50:39] Speaker 2: I'm going to make the ball find Josh Hart.
[50:41] Speaker 4: Josh Hart. If he's in the game, we let him shoot.
[50:43] Speaker 4: But they was doing that. That's why they went up.
[50:46] Speaker 4: The ball will find Josh Hart. Cat can get it going.
[50:49] Speaker 2: We know that. OG is a better shooter. And Mikael
[50:53] Speaker 2: Bridges is a very capable shooter, right? The ball, if
[50:57] Speaker 2: I'm scouting it, right, if I'm game planning it, the
[51:00] Speaker 2: ball will find Josh Hart.
[51:01] Speaker 4: So we take Josh Hart out the fucking game. What
[51:03] Speaker 4: are we doing? What's our adjustment?
[51:05] Speaker 2: It depends on who you put in. Then you put
[51:06] Speaker 2: Mitchell Robinson in? No, no, no. We put an OG in. Okay.
[51:09] Speaker 2: He started.
[51:10] Speaker 4: He might start. It's going to be OG, Shamit.
[51:13] Speaker 2: Josh Hart. No.
[51:14] Speaker 4: Josh out. OG, Shamit, Bridges, Cat, and Brunson. That's going
[51:20] Speaker 4: to be my five. OG ain't in no rhythm, so
[51:22] Speaker 4: I'll make the ball find him. But remember, he's the driver.
[51:24] Speaker 4: He was the one that was driving, breaking. Two's better
[51:27] Speaker 4: than three's. But he's breaking the defense down for the three.
[51:31] Speaker 4: For the kick out. That's what he was doing. Drive, drive, kick.
[51:34] Speaker 4: Now you got everybody contained.
[51:36] Speaker 2: Them dudes over help, man. That's why we sit down
[51:39] Speaker 2: what we're doing right now. What are we going on
[51:42] Speaker 2: the floor for right now? For no reason, right? We're
[51:44] Speaker 2: not practicing. We're in the Eastern Conference Finals. So we
[51:48] Speaker 2: ain't finna get up and down. We need to spend
[51:50] Speaker 2: as much time in front of this film and with
[51:53] Speaker 2: the goddamn clicker, rewinding this shit so we can figure
[51:56] Speaker 2: it out. How long we need to sit here to
[51:59] Speaker 2: figure out how we gonna play it? When they're trying
[52:02] Speaker 2: to exploit James, this is what we need to do
[52:05] Speaker 2: in order to figure out as a unit. It just
[52:07] Speaker 2: don't need to be the coaches in their motherfucking brains
[52:09] Speaker 2: because they're not out there. Yeah, why we can't go zone?
[52:12] Speaker 2: You can mix it up. I'm with you. Mix it up.
[52:15] Speaker 4: Go zone, jump in.
[52:17] Speaker 2: I'll go one, three, one, and have the dude stay
[52:18] Speaker 2: at the top. Boxing one, triangle, and two. Listen, I'm
[52:22] Speaker 2: so locked into defensive game plan. I'm like, what's up
[52:25] Speaker 2: with that? Boxing one, triangle, and two. We're going to
[52:28] Speaker 2: jump in. We're going to come out of ATO. We're
[52:29] Speaker 2: going to go zone because we know you're drawing up
[52:31] Speaker 2: a man play.
[52:33] Speaker 4: It's tougher, though, because the only time you had to
[52:35] Speaker 4: win that battle with the zone was this last game
[52:38] Speaker 4: when they was cold they coming off of rest now
[52:42] Speaker 4: every now they got that feeling now so these guys
[52:45] Speaker 4: are gonna hit shots you go zone now they're gonna
[52:47] Speaker 4: make you pay well.
[52:48] Speaker 2: Hey well we're gonna have to see because i'm gonna
[52:50] Speaker 2: mix it up on you i'm gonna say yeah we're
[52:52] Speaker 2: gonna go zone out of ato we're gonna yeah yeah
[52:55] Speaker 2: yeah let's do that ato we're gonna pick up four
[52:57] Speaker 2: yeah listen And find Jalen Brown.
[53:00] Speaker 8: Wherever he at, yo, remember, yo, you got him.
[53:02] Speaker 2: So let me ask y'all this. Let me ask y'all this, right?
[53:04] Speaker 2: We've seen time and time again in just this playoffs,
[53:07] Speaker 2: throughout time, but just this particular playoffs, where teams have
[53:13] Speaker 2: a hard, at the end of the game when the
[53:15] Speaker 2: game is closed and teams are trying to come back this, that,
[53:17] Speaker 2: and third, and teams can't get the ball up the floor, right? Yep.
[53:19] Speaker 2: Because teams are pressing. Why don't teams do it more
[53:22] Speaker 2: in the beginning of the game?
[53:23] Speaker 4: Just to push that button, switch it up.
[53:27] Speaker 2: Why not pick up full court press and make you
[53:30] Speaker 2: into mistakes early in the game? Why do we have
[53:31] Speaker 2: to wait until we're down 10? Yeah. with 30 seconds
[53:35] Speaker 2: to go to scramble and fly around and try to
[53:38] Speaker 2: create havoc. Okay, so you did do a little bit
[53:40] Speaker 2: of it. Indiana did a little bit of it.
[53:42] Speaker 7: Well, the Lakers did it to the Thunder because Marcus
[53:45] Speaker 7: Smart picked up.
[53:46] Speaker 2: I'm saying everybody. I mean, it's wall to wall. But
[53:49] Speaker 2: you see at the end of the game, them guys
[53:51] Speaker 2: flying around.
[53:52] Speaker 4: That urgency.
[53:53] Speaker 2: It's that sense of urgency that we're trying to go
[53:55] Speaker 2: get this win.
[53:55] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
[53:56] Speaker 2: Why not play with that more? That's that college thing.
[53:59] Speaker 4: Okay.
[54:00] Speaker 2: That.
[54:01] Speaker 4: That's that college. Right?
[54:02] Speaker 2: I ain't saying you ain't got to do it 48
[54:04] Speaker 2: minutes because guys can handle the ball and all that shit.
[54:05] Speaker 2: But coming out of ATO, right? 55. Whatever it is.
[54:10] Speaker 1: Pick up full.
[54:11] Speaker 4: 55. ATO.
[54:11] Speaker 2: We're going to pick up full court. We're going to...
[54:15] Speaker 2: Whatever it is. Make them run some... Okay. For nothing
[54:19] Speaker 2: more than waste some shot clock.
[54:21] Speaker 4: Waste the shot clock.
[54:22] Speaker 2: By the time they cross half court, they got to
[54:25] Speaker 2: cross it by 15 or whatever. Now they got less
[54:27] Speaker 2: time to set up in the office.
[54:28] Speaker 3: But it can wear you down. That's fine.
[54:31] Speaker 2: No. That too.
[54:33] Speaker 4: No. If we're ready for it.
[54:35] Speaker 2: But defense is effort and want to.
[54:37] Speaker 1: Right?
[54:37] Speaker 2: Defense is effort and want to. So you can't tell
[54:40] Speaker 2: me that a 22, 23, 24-year-old guy can't run around
[54:44] Speaker 2: and trap you consistently. Like, that's what we're here for. OK,
[54:49] Speaker 2: so you can play 43 minutes a night. You can
[54:51] Speaker 2: you can motherfucking trap somebody. I can play you 37.
[54:54] Speaker 4: Yeah, right.
[54:54] Speaker 2: I can play 37 minutes and we can run around
[54:57] Speaker 2: and be aggressive defensively. Or I can play you 42
[55:00] Speaker 2: minutes and we can just play with this passive shit
[55:02] Speaker 2: and team just throw the ball. They won't do it.
[55:04] Speaker 7: OK, with with Jalen Brunson. Why, at the very least,
[55:08] Speaker 7: wouldn't you jump double him like double hard as soon
[55:12] Speaker 7: as he dribbles across half court where you see you coming?
[55:15] Speaker 4: And he's good enough to know exactly where to go.
[55:18] Speaker 2: With the ball. You dribbling at me. You coming at me.
[55:19] Speaker 2: I can see you. I'm coming off a pick and roll.
[55:22] Speaker 2: It should be a surprise.
[55:23] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[55:23] Speaker 4: Or turning him.
[55:24] Speaker 2: Jumping. Make him turn.
[55:25] Speaker 4: Make him turn his back. And now we come.
[55:27] Speaker 2: That's that dumb shit that they was doing SGA and
[55:29] Speaker 2: all that.
[55:29] Speaker 4: And Kevin Durant.
[55:30] Speaker 2: I can see you.
[55:31] Speaker 4: I can see two guys.
[55:32] Speaker 1: Right to you.
[55:32] Speaker 2: I got one guy on me and I can see you.
[55:34] Speaker 2: I'm just going to throw the ball to your guy.
[55:36] Speaker 5: Right.
[55:37] Speaker 2: Get open, guys. That's what they do, Skip.
[55:40] Speaker 8: Like when he's coming down, like off of a timeout
[55:42] Speaker 8: or a make-ask.
[55:43] Speaker 4: He's just coming down. Yeah, he's bringing it up. Run
[55:45] Speaker 4: at him.
[55:46] Speaker 2: Yeah, what's wrong with that?
[55:47] Speaker 4: But he's going to get it back. If you give
[55:49] Speaker 4: it up, get it back. He's just going to go
[55:51] Speaker 4: get it back.
[55:52] Speaker 2: It's real simple. Because you're going to rotate out.
[55:54] Speaker 3: They're doing it every time.
[55:55] Speaker 2: No, they wait. They wait, though. Okay, so that's what
[55:58] Speaker 2: I'm saying. No, no, that's what I'm saying.
[55:59] Speaker 8: No, he comes down, and then the play comes, and–
[56:02] Speaker 8: Because the reason why I feel like the Spurs is
[56:03] Speaker 8: working with the Spurs is because SGA keep playing in
[56:05] Speaker 8: the middle of the court. So you got to make
[56:07] Speaker 8: Brunson do something else outside of being up here at
[56:10] Speaker 8: the top. He got to be on some Steph shit.
[56:12] Speaker 8: The difference though. SGA don't have guys like the Knicks got.
[56:18] Speaker 8: Brunson trusts those. He trusts Bridges. He trusts Cat. He
[56:23] Speaker 8: trusts those guys.
[56:25] Speaker 4: I don't think SGA trusts that those.
[56:27] Speaker 2: Guys are– no.
[56:28] Speaker 4: That's why he played way in the first half. He
[56:31] Speaker 4: had to play that way. He had to play that way.
[56:34] Speaker 4: He had to give it up. If he didn't have
[56:37] Speaker 4: to give it up, he would not give it up.
[56:39] Speaker 4: Jalen Brunson has no problem.
[56:42] Speaker 2: He's a winner.
[56:43] Speaker 4: He has no problem giving the ball up. What are
[56:45] Speaker 4: you talking about?
[56:46] Speaker 3: Bro.
[56:46] Speaker 4: They were losing the last couple of years.
[56:49] Speaker 2: That's because you allowed me to. You allowed me to.
[56:53] Speaker 2: You don't double him.
[56:54] Speaker 4: They were losing the last couple of years because he
[56:55] Speaker 4: had the ball so much. But how many times were
[56:57] Speaker 4: they doubling him? They wasn't doubling him.
[56:59] Speaker 8: When they put a cat in that position to run
[57:01] Speaker 8: the one, you know his possessions is less and he's
[57:03] Speaker 8: averaging more.
[57:04] Speaker 4: Because we have an offensive system now. But if we're
[57:06] Speaker 4: coming down, that's what I'm saying. But you wasn't throwing
[57:10] Speaker 4: guys at.
[57:10] Speaker 2: Him, though. Jalen Brunson didn't trust to get that bitch up.
[57:13] Speaker 2: But you wasn't throwing guys at him. We're going to
[57:15] Speaker 2: win and lose with me doing this with the fuck
[57:18] Speaker 2: I'm doing. But you wasn't doubling me. That's what I'm saying.
[57:20] Speaker 4: I'm saying no one was doubling Jalen Brunson.
[57:23] Speaker 2: People was trying to. Yes, they were doubling.
[57:24] Speaker 9: No, they wasn't.
[57:25] Speaker 2: He just wasn't giving the ball up. Yes, he was.
[57:27] Speaker 2: You know who he was giving the ball up to?
[57:29] Speaker 2: Josh Hart. They was giving him the ball in the middle.
[57:31] Speaker 4: Okay, so what's the difference now with Cat? All you
[57:33] Speaker 4: had to do was give it to Cat. Because Cat
[57:35] Speaker 4: is playing the fucking dunker. Cat is down in the dunker.
[57:38] Speaker 4: They're playing Josh Hart in the middle. So now we're
[57:40] Speaker 4: two on one. It's Josh Hart.
[57:42] Speaker 2: You get it.
[57:42] Speaker 4: You make the play to Cat or you got Bridges
[57:45] Speaker 4: in the corner. That's usually their thing. That's why people
[57:47] Speaker 4: don't double Brunson.
[57:48] Speaker 2: Once they put Cat in the Draymond role, they've been
[57:51] Speaker 2: going crazy. I'm telling you.
[57:53] Speaker 4: That's the Sabonis role. He's playing the Sabonis role. Whatever.
[57:57] Speaker 8: Mike Brown was over there at the Warriors and put
[58:00] Speaker 8: Draymond up there at the one and let him do.
[58:01] Speaker 1: What he got to do.
[58:03] Speaker 2: But that's that's that's what that is. You ain't really
[58:05] Speaker 2: a little bit of that.
[58:06] Speaker 4: Just he got better off the difference between us doubling
[58:09] Speaker 4: Jalen Brunson when you got rotations and you got motherfuckers
[58:12] Speaker 4: that can hit them shots. It's a big difference between
[58:14] Speaker 4: you playing zone and then trying to scheme and he goes.
[58:18] Speaker 2: Who's on the floor. He gonna have to have McBride
[58:20] Speaker 2: out there Clarkson sham it. and motherfucking Bridges. And OG.
[58:26] Speaker 2: And guess what? He's going to have to have, and
[58:27] Speaker 2: Jalen Brunner. I'm saying, Jalen, in order for me to
[58:30] Speaker 2: motherfucking not do it, he's going to have to have
[58:32] Speaker 2: Jordan Clarkson out there, Meg Bride, fucking Shamit, and Bridges.
[58:40] Speaker 2: It's the only way you don't double. You go small
[58:41] Speaker 2: that way, five shooters. The ball, you're going to have
[58:44] Speaker 2: to find one of them dudes. OG and Anobi, Josh Hart,
[58:48] Speaker 2: the ball will find them if I'm game planning it.
[58:51] Speaker 2: I'm not just going to sit back and continuously watch
[58:53] Speaker 2: dudes play one-on-one. It's just what it is. But the
[58:56] Speaker 2: way the thing is, you're going to have Cat out
[58:58] Speaker 2: there some. You're going to have Mitchell Robinson out there.
[59:03] Speaker 2: They're going to play. So when they're out there, we're
[59:07] Speaker 2: more aggressive. And they play best. They're going to have
[59:09] Speaker 2: a better game. Mitchell Robinson out there, when Mitchell Robinson
[59:13] Speaker 2: out there, we are playing so reckless. Because I want
[59:19] Speaker 2: him to have the ball. Yeah, yeah. We're doubling. Anytime
[59:21] Speaker 2: he come in to pick a role, we're doubling. Please
[59:24] Speaker 2: pass him the ball. I don't care for who it is.
[59:27] Speaker 2: The ball will find Mitchell Robinson. But good coaching make
[59:30] Speaker 2: you pay on that. Who?
[59:31] Speaker 4: Mitchell Robinson going after me. Dribble handoff. Mitchell Robinson go
[59:34] Speaker 4: right into the dribble handoff.
[59:35] Speaker 1: To who?
[59:36] Speaker 4: To whoever's on the wing, whether it's Landry, Shamit, Bridges.
[59:39] Speaker 2: And we're trapping that. And we're trapping that. Why would
[59:41] Speaker 2: he get that? Because he's by himself. You can't trap that. Please, please.
[59:44] Speaker 2: You can't. You can't.
[59:45] Speaker 4: Remember, if it's a double up here and you're passing
[59:49] Speaker 4: it to Mitchell Robinson, the reason you do the dribble
[59:52] Speaker 4: handoff is because it's a one-on-two. I'm literally dribble handoff
[59:56] Speaker 4: and I'm giving the same a drive. I'm over here.
[59:58] Speaker 4: You can't.
[59:59] Speaker 2: No one's guarding me. Robinson. That's what we want.
[1:00:03] Speaker 4: No, this is what happened yesterday. The dribble handoff with,
[1:00:07] Speaker 4: I think it was Bridges. Bridges dribble handoff. Mitchell Robinson
[1:00:10] Speaker 4: rolled to the basket. He threw the lob to him.
[1:00:13] Speaker 4: That's the backside offense off of a double team.
[1:00:16] Speaker 2: Off a dribble handoff and you coming off and we
[1:00:18] Speaker 2: trapping you. How are you going to throw a lob?
[1:00:20] Speaker 4: No, you're not trapping because there is nobody guarding you.
[1:00:21] Speaker 4: That's what we're saying.
[1:00:22] Speaker 8: We are doing that so you can throw it to him.
[1:00:24] Speaker 2: We're going to rotate. Yo, do what you got to do, buddy.
[1:00:27] Speaker 2: Who's going to rotate? You're in the double team up top.
[1:00:30] Speaker 4: What are you talking about?
[1:00:31] Speaker 2: We got somebody over here at the bottom. What are
[1:00:33] Speaker 2: you talking about? We can rotate to him. It's two
[1:00:34] Speaker 2: on one on backside regardless. No, it ain't.
[1:00:37] Speaker 4: Yes, it is.
[1:00:38] Speaker 2: No, it's not.
[1:00:38] Speaker 4: You got two guys on one. You got two guys
[1:00:42] Speaker 4: on one. You say he getting the ball at the
[1:00:43] Speaker 4: top of the key, right? And dribble handoff right away.
[1:00:46] Speaker 2: Off the three line. So he's coming off the three. Right, right.
[1:00:49] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[1:00:49] Speaker 2: Whoever he's handed off is turning the corner. I'm trapping
[1:00:52] Speaker 2: off that. So you have to do this.
[1:00:54] Speaker 4: How are you trapping off it? There's only one defender, bro.
[1:00:57] Speaker 2: It's the dribble handoff. What are you talking about? No
[1:00:59] Speaker 2: one's guarding Mitchell Robinson. His man is in the double. No,
[1:01:03] Speaker 2: somebody is.
[1:01:03] Speaker 4: This man is in the double. You only got five
[1:01:07] Speaker 4: guys on the floor. You got two guys in the double,
[1:01:09] Speaker 4: got one guy on McBride, and you got the other
[1:01:11] Speaker 4: two guys down low. So somebody has to rotate. Whoever
[1:01:15] Speaker 4: doesn't rotate, because you're not rotating. All right, don't rotate
[1:01:17] Speaker 4: the Mitchell. Okay, I see what you're saying. Now you
[1:01:20] Speaker 4: see what I'm saying. I thought you said like he
[1:01:21] Speaker 4: was on the floor. So now it's dribble handoff. It's
[1:01:26] Speaker 4: one on two. Guess what Mitch Roberts is going to
[1:01:27] Speaker 4: have to score.
[1:01:28] Speaker 2: Right there. He's going to have to listen. Mitchell Robinson
[1:01:32] Speaker 2: would have to have a Wilt Chamberlain night. Well, first
[1:01:40] Speaker 2: of all, when we throw it to him and he looked.
[1:01:42] Speaker 2: The first one, he go, listen, go ahead, bro.
[1:01:44] Speaker 4: You by yourself.
[1:01:45] Speaker 2: No, no, no.
[1:01:45] Speaker 4: He knows to dribble handoff. Okay, so you're doing that.
[1:01:48] Speaker 2: That's fine. It's like having Bogan.
[1:01:49] Speaker 4: In the game. By the time he's doing that, I'm
[1:01:51] Speaker 4: still making my way.
[1:01:52] Speaker 2: I can still get back. No, it's too late. He
[1:01:55] Speaker 2: going to look over there and everybody going.
[1:01:56] Speaker 4: To be in denial. Your role, guy, which is Mitchell
[1:02:00] Speaker 4: Robinson's rolling. You're going to have a small guard that's
[1:02:03] Speaker 4: going to be down there trying to stop him for
[1:02:05] Speaker 4: the lob. No, no. Who's guarding Mitchell Robinson in the
[1:02:10] Speaker 4: pick and roll?
[1:02:11] Speaker 2: So hear me out. Hear me out. Who's in the
[1:02:14] Speaker 2: pick and roll? Mitchell Robinson. Y'all just discussed it. Let
[1:02:17] Speaker 2: me tell you the way it is, right? Mitchell Robinson's
[1:02:20] Speaker 2: in the game. And Evan Mobley, I mean, just say
[1:02:27] Speaker 2: Jared Allen is on him, right? Jared Allen is on him.
[1:02:30] Speaker 2: And you're saying you're going to double the pick and
[1:02:32] Speaker 2: roll with Brunson. This is off the first one. Jalen
[1:02:35] Speaker 2: Brunson is in the pick and roll, right, with them two.
[1:02:37] Speaker 2: Jalen Brunson is being guarded by, just say.
[1:02:39] Speaker 4: James Harden. All right.
[1:02:40] Speaker 7: Right?
[1:02:41] Speaker 2: We jump it.
[1:02:42] Speaker 4: Mitchell Robinson coming up to set the screen. You and
[1:02:44] Speaker 4: Jared Allen and James Harden. Jump Brunson, right? The release
[1:02:50] Speaker 4: guy is Mitchell Robinson.
[1:02:52] Speaker 2: The ball, he throws it to Mitchell Robinson. Yes.
[1:02:55] Speaker 4: Right?
[1:02:55] Speaker 7: Right.
[1:02:56] Speaker 2: I'm denying on the weak side. So no McBride.
[1:02:59] Speaker 4: No, we're not letting him get it.
[1:03:00] Speaker 2: I'm denying the weak side.
[1:03:02] Speaker 4: So it's just him going to the rim.
[1:03:03] Speaker 2: Fine. All right.
[1:03:04] Speaker 4: By itself.
[1:03:05] Speaker 2: Cool.
[1:03:07] Speaker 1: Cool.
[1:03:09] Speaker 2: That's what our game plan. That's just me. Because guess what?
[1:03:12] Speaker 2: He ain't going to continue. Listen, I'm just telling you
[1:03:16] Speaker 2: what I see, dog. Every time, too. That's a dunk.
[1:03:19] Speaker 2: I'm going to give you a dunk, dog. He's not
[1:03:21] Speaker 2: going to do it. The rest of how they start
[1:03:22] Speaker 2: hacking them to mess up the rhythm, it messes up
[1:03:26] Speaker 2: the rhythm of the Knicks is all I'm saying.
[1:03:28] Speaker 4: Not when Mitchell Robinson gets to be really Mitchell Robinson.
[1:03:31] Speaker 4: Y'all thinking like he's just some goony ass nigga out there.
[1:03:33] Speaker 4: He actually can dribble that bitch and dunk it.
[1:03:36] Speaker 2: I want him to. He will. I want him to.
[1:03:38] Speaker 4: That's just like saying the same thing with Jared Allen.
[1:03:40] Speaker 2: Jared Allen can do it. Exactly. And that's what we're
[1:03:42] Speaker 2: going to do too. You're wasting fouls now. Okay. We're
[1:03:45] Speaker 2: wasting fouls on somebody who ain't going to be out there.
[1:03:47] Speaker 4: You're losing momentum. You're wasting fouls.
[1:03:48] Speaker 2: No, we're not. No, you're losing momentum.
[1:03:49] Speaker 4: And you're buying into our game plan. Our game plan
[1:03:53] Speaker 4: is we know y'all going to double. We know y'all
[1:03:56] Speaker 4: going to deny the sides. So we're going to play
[1:03:59] Speaker 4: this based on this.
[1:04:00] Speaker 8: In this moment right now, with the game on the
[1:04:02] Speaker 8: line like this, I would definitely make.
[1:04:04] Speaker 2: Y'all scrambling now.
[1:04:05] Speaker 4: Now y'all look desperate.
[1:04:07] Speaker 2: It's about winning the game.
[1:04:09] Speaker 4: That's better than trap him and have him play. Because
[1:04:13] Speaker 4: it's backside basketball at that point. If I'm Mike Brown,
[1:04:16] Speaker 4: I need to out-coach you on the backside.
[1:04:18] Speaker 1: Period.
[1:04:19] Speaker 2: Mitch Robinson going to get that motherfucker a few times
[1:04:21] Speaker 2: and ain't nobody going to beat her and he ain't
[1:04:22] Speaker 2: going to win.
[1:04:23] Speaker 4: And he going to be like, it's mine.
[1:04:24] Speaker 1: I agree.
[1:04:25] Speaker 2: And he ain't going to know what to do, right?
[1:04:28] Speaker 4: Guess what?
[1:04:29] Speaker 2: Sup? Sup?
[1:04:30] Speaker 4: Hey, this is not working. OG, you play.
[1:04:34] Speaker 2: This position now. Now we play it different.
[1:04:36] Speaker 4: Now you have to play it different.
[1:04:37] Speaker 2: Now we play it different. Now y'all got to figure
[1:04:39] Speaker 2: out what you're going to do. Now we go Zoom.
[1:04:40] Speaker 2: Now we go Zoom. Now we figure it out. But
[1:04:43] Speaker 2: now I'm still doubling. If OG sets the pick on Bronco,
[1:04:49] Speaker 2: I'm still doubling.
[1:04:50] Speaker 4: Even if he hitting that three. I'm going to double.
[1:04:53] Speaker 2: Then we rotate because he shot that one he shot late. Yeah,
[1:04:56] Speaker 2: it was nasty. That bitch went right. He said, ooh.
[1:04:58] Speaker 2: I said, yeah, that was a bad one. Just game
[1:05:05] Speaker 2: plans all I'm saying. I'm just not gonna keep giving
[1:05:07] Speaker 2: you the same look. I'll get it We're not gonna
[1:05:10] Speaker 2: let we're not gonna let mr. Robinson.
[1:05:11] Speaker 4: Keep doing some bullshit up, but either look if you
[1:05:14] Speaker 4: don't don't that shit the first two times.
[1:05:17] Speaker 2: Hey, sir, is that so?
[1:05:19] Speaker 7: Now we can throw it in there they go as
[1:05:21] Speaker 7: Jalen Brunson goes.
[1:05:23] Speaker 3: In the end.
[1:05:24] Speaker 7: Yes, they do absolutely off-court Okay, so to me Game two,
[1:05:29] Speaker 7: I'm just saying, if any of those other Alex Carusos.
[1:05:32] Speaker 3: Beat me, they beat me. Name them all.
[1:05:33] Speaker 7: You name them all, and you respect them a little
[1:05:36] Speaker 7: more than I respect all the rest of them.
[1:05:39] Speaker 3: I just say, if any of those other guys, if
[1:05:41] Speaker 3: Kat's going to.
[1:05:41] Speaker 7: Get 30, If Bridges is going to get 30, let
[1:05:44] Speaker 7: him get 30, and then I'll lose on that. But
[1:05:47] Speaker 7: I'm not going to let that little man beat me
[1:05:49] Speaker 7: again because he just beat my ass for 44 to 11,
[1:05:53] Speaker 7: and he was the driving force.
[1:05:55] Speaker 2: Of the whole show. I'm not going to go with
[1:05:57] Speaker 2: the cat. Like, Cat can get that thing going.
[1:06:01] Speaker 4: He can.
[1:06:01] Speaker 2: Cat just had a bad game. But he can get
[1:06:03] Speaker 2: that motherfucker going, so I'm going to play him honest, right?
[1:06:07] Speaker 2: I'm not going to not rotate to him. I'm going
[1:06:09] Speaker 2: to make him have to play in crowds and things
[1:06:11] Speaker 2: like that. I'm not, because he can get it going
[1:06:13] Speaker 2: from three. He is aggressive. He just had off night.
[1:06:16] Speaker 2: And I think he will soon.
[1:06:17] Speaker 1: But that's where McCarroll and O.G. become so important.
[1:06:19] Speaker 4: But I get what Skip is saying. I can't let
[1:06:22] Speaker 4: the clutch. I can't let Mr. Clutch do what he
[1:06:26] Speaker 4: just did.
[1:06:26] Speaker 2: To one of our guys. Especially not down the stretch.
[1:06:30] Speaker 3: It's insane.
[1:06:33] Speaker 7: It's a fireable offense for the coach. And he may
[1:06:35] Speaker 7: be sitting on the hottest seat right now in basketball.
[1:06:38] Speaker 4: Absolutely.
[1:06:39] Speaker 1: How often do we expect Jalen Brunson to take 29
[1:06:41] Speaker 1: shots in a game, though?
[1:06:42] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[1:06:43] Speaker 1: Man, are you serious?
[1:06:44] Speaker 2: I'm just saying.
[1:06:45] Speaker 5: Maybe.
[1:06:45] Speaker 2: Say it again. Maybe. If he has to. Say it again.
[1:06:49] Speaker 2: How often do you expect Jalen Brunson to take 29? Often.
[1:06:52] Speaker 2: That's good. Very often.
[1:06:53] Speaker 1: Go look how many times he do it last year
[1:06:57] Speaker 1: in the playoffs.
[1:06:59] Speaker 2: He shoot that bitch when he needs to. I guarantee, listen,
[1:07:02] Speaker 2: more times than not, they made, what, second round last year?
[1:07:05] Speaker 4: Yeah. Shit, listen.
[1:07:06] Speaker 2: He putting that motherfucker up. Most this postseason, but let
[1:07:13] Speaker 2: me check. Most this postseason. He putting that motherfucker up.
[1:07:15] Speaker 2: At least 25.
[1:07:15] Speaker 4: Because they've been blowing people out. He ain't had to
[1:07:18] Speaker 4: shoot it 29 times.
[1:07:19] Speaker 2: They was playing close games last year.
[1:07:22] Speaker 1: 33 in one game. A lot of 27s.
[1:07:24] Speaker 4: Yes.
[1:07:25] Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. That's 29. He will. 27 is 29.
[1:07:28] Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? He took his shot. He
[1:07:31] Speaker 2: took 33 shots. He is putting that bitch up on
[1:07:33] Speaker 2: that rim, dawg. And he dribbled in that motherfucker 400
[1:07:36] Speaker 2: times a game. 300 to 400 times a game. Guaranteed.
[1:07:40] Speaker 4: Just get it out of his hands and see if
[1:07:42] Speaker 4: everybody else can play on it.
[1:07:43] Speaker 2: I remember when I found out that shit was a stat.
[1:07:45] Speaker 2: When I was doing radio, I had a radio, and
[1:07:47] Speaker 2: I really, like, dribbles per game. I found out that
[1:07:50] Speaker 2: was a stat. And I was like, like, they really
[1:07:55] Speaker 2: keep track. So it was the series that CP and
[1:07:58] Speaker 2: James and Clay and, no, it was KD and... Steph,
[1:08:04] Speaker 2: I think it was. And it was like James and
[1:08:07] Speaker 2: them had dribbled it like twice as many times. Both
[1:08:11] Speaker 2: of them, CP and James, they dribbled it twice as
[1:08:13] Speaker 2: many as the other two teams' best players. That's what
[1:08:16] Speaker 2: Mike Brown said when he was with the Warriors. He
[1:08:18] Speaker 2: said it. He did.
[1:08:18] Speaker 1: Hard and close to 1,000 dribbles when they were playing.
[1:08:21] Speaker 1: He was like, yo, if you just wear them down,
[1:08:22] Speaker 1: let them keep dribbling the ball. Eventually.
[1:08:25] Speaker 2: He's just about dribbling the shit out that ball.
[1:08:28] Speaker 1: Mike Brown talking a lot of cash shit after game one,
[1:08:29] Speaker 1: I will say.
[1:08:30] Speaker 2: He did.
[1:08:31] Speaker 1: He didn't coach good.
[1:08:33] Speaker 2: So I don't know what I'm gonna do it shit.
[1:08:35] Speaker 2: I'll call the timeout. Yeah, he did He damn it
[1:08:38] Speaker 2: through his back out trying to outdo each other.
[1:08:42] Speaker 10: Who could be the worst tonight we're gonna put the
[1:08:46] Speaker 10: job on the line tonight Who can make this a
[1:08:51] Speaker 10: more fireball offense tonight?
[1:08:52] Speaker 1: So last question before we move on will the Cavs
[1:08:54] Speaker 1: be able to recover from blowing a game like this
[1:08:56] Speaker 1: can you mention experiencing these things how long is that
[1:08:59] Speaker 1: hangover after you feel an opportunity like this slip.
[1:09:01] Speaker 2: Away on the road it's because we did it at
[1:09:05] Speaker 2: Boston when I was with the Nets Paul Pierce had
[1:09:07] Speaker 2: a great fourth quarter and they made some big shots
[1:09:11] Speaker 2: we were on the road but the series it wasn't
[1:09:15] Speaker 2: game one that's the that's the beauty of it I
[1:09:18] Speaker 2: think it was I think it was game three We
[1:09:21] Speaker 2: came back and won a series in six. But game one,
[1:09:25] Speaker 2: the tough one, man, when you're going there and you're
[1:09:27] Speaker 2: playing as well as you are and we haven't played
[1:09:30] Speaker 2: the best on the road. We had a couple road wins,
[1:09:32] Speaker 2: but we haven't played the best on the road. So
[1:09:35] Speaker 2: to collapse in that fashion, it's going to be a
[1:09:38] Speaker 2: lingering effect. They're tired. Two seven-game series come out, an
[1:09:43] Speaker 2: overtime game, one day resting between the game. The Knicks
[1:09:47] Speaker 2: are going to come out even more energized and even
[1:09:49] Speaker 2: more focused. Um, yeah, it's a tall task. It's, it's,
[1:09:53] Speaker 2: it's a tall task to ask to bounce back from
[1:09:55] Speaker 2: that and that hostile environment when you're not the best
[1:09:59] Speaker 2: road playoff team. Um, so yeah, it's, it's, it's, it's
[1:10:03] Speaker 2: a big ask. Well, it could get, can't get done.
[1:10:06] Speaker 2: Don't get, I ain't saying it can't get done, but
[1:10:08] Speaker 2: you gotta play a full, complete game. You gotta compete.
[1:10:11] Speaker 2: You gotta coach, um, for 48 minutes. You gotta play
[1:10:16] Speaker 2: for 40, however long the game lasts. You gotta coach
[1:10:17] Speaker 2: and play for that long. Um, They say it can't
[1:10:20] Speaker 2: be done, but it's a tall ask.
[1:10:24] Speaker 1: It feels ominous.
[1:10:25] Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely.
[1:10:27] Speaker 1: We will keep monitoring this series as we do, but
[1:10:30] Speaker 1: now let's shift over to Dallas where Jason Kidd out
[1:10:34] Speaker 1: as Mavs head coach after five seasons with the team.
[1:10:37] Speaker 1: Kidd and the team agreed to mutually part ways Tuesday.
[1:10:40] Speaker 1: So Kidd took over as Mavs head coach 2021, had
[1:10:43] Speaker 1: an overall record of 205-205 with Dallas, 22-18 in the playoffs,
[1:10:48] Speaker 1: led him to a 52-30 record in conference finals appearance
[1:10:51] Speaker 1: in his first season and NBA finals appearance in 2024.
[1:10:55] Speaker 1: But since trading Luka to the Lakers last February, the
[1:10:58] Speaker 1: Mavs have missed the playoffs in each of the last
[1:11:00] Speaker 1: two seasons as the squad has been hampered by injuries.
[1:11:03] Speaker 1: So earlier this month, the Mavs named former Nuggets and
[1:11:06] Speaker 1: Raptors executive Masai Ujiri As the new team president, according
[1:11:09] Speaker 1: to reports, Kidd was lobbying to get the position, but
[1:11:12] Speaker 1: the Mavs opted to go in a different direction. So
[1:11:15] Speaker 1: during his introductory press conference back on May 5th, The
[1:11:18] Speaker 1: jury was asked about Kidd's future with the team but
[1:11:20] Speaker 1: was noncommittal, saying, he's done a great job. We're going
[1:11:23] Speaker 1: to look at this thing from head to toe. And
[1:11:26] Speaker 1: in a statement released Tuesday, Masai said, in part, as
[1:11:29] Speaker 1: we elevate the future of our basketball program, we believe
[1:11:31] Speaker 1: this is the right moment for a new direction for
[1:11:34] Speaker 1: our team. We have high expectations for this franchise and
[1:11:37] Speaker 1: a responsibility to build a basketball organization capable of sustained
[1:11:41] Speaker 1: championship contention. Kidd had four years and over $ 40 million
[1:11:45] Speaker 1: remaining on the contract extension he signed with the Mavs
[1:11:48] Speaker 1: before last season. Skip, when you hear this news, caught
[1:11:52] Speaker 1: us all by surprise, but what's your reaction to Jason
[1:11:54] Speaker 1: Kidd and the Mavs parting ways after five seasons? Mutually parting.
[1:11:58] Speaker 3: Yes, that's what they said.
[1:12:00] Speaker 7: No surprise at all because, as you point out, Jason
[1:12:04] Speaker 7: wanted that job and... Once you don't give it to
[1:12:08] Speaker 7: Jason and you hire somebody else, then that guy comes
[1:12:10] Speaker 7: in and says, oh, he wanted my job.
[1:12:13] Speaker 2: He's out.
[1:12:14] Speaker 3: So.
[1:12:14] Speaker 2: Being over your fucking weight. Yes.
[1:12:16] Speaker 3: Thank you.
[1:12:18] Speaker 4: That part.
[1:12:21] Speaker 7: I like Jason a lot. I respect him a lot
[1:12:23] Speaker 7: as a head coach. I know the record's not glowing,
[1:12:27] Speaker 7: you know, brilliant. He's 388 and 395 as a head coach,
[1:12:32] Speaker 7: but he's been in a couple of tough spots. And.
[1:12:35] Speaker 3: When he's right, he can be really right.
[1:12:38] Speaker 7: And what I still can't wrap my head around in
[1:12:43] Speaker 7: Dallas is, I didn't mind the Luka trade. Jason seemed
[1:12:48] Speaker 7: to mind it a lot, and he made big internal
[1:12:51] Speaker 7: waves about it, and that was the beginning of the
[1:12:53] Speaker 7: end for him and the franchise.
[1:12:55] Speaker 2: But I thought.
[1:12:58] Speaker 7: If you have Anthony Davis, and they kept saying that
[1:13:01] Speaker 7: Kyrie last year was going to be back by Thanksgiving,
[1:13:03] Speaker 7: and then it went to Christmas, and then it went
[1:13:05] Speaker 7: to first of the year, and then he never came back.
[1:13:08] Speaker 7: But if Kyrie had come back last year with A.D.
[1:13:12] Speaker 7: and the emergence of Cooper Flagg, and then you've got
[1:13:16] Speaker 7: Clay and P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford, and Lively was
[1:13:19] Speaker 7: hurt last year, but when he came back, and Najee
[1:13:22] Speaker 7: Marshall and Brandon Williams and Caleb Martin, I like that roster.
[1:13:26] Speaker 1: I do.
[1:13:27] Speaker 3: And I thought.
[1:13:28] Speaker 7: Jason, if you could get him in the right spot
[1:13:31] Speaker 7: at the right time, I thought he would have.
[1:13:32] Speaker 3: Been the perfect coach for that roster.
[1:13:35] Speaker 7: So it's just a sad situation to me that it
[1:13:39] Speaker 7: never detonated right place, right time. And now they just
[1:13:45] Speaker 7: need to start completely over and rebuild around Cooper Flagg, obviously.
[1:13:48] Speaker 7: And to do that, they need to start completely fresh
[1:13:52] Speaker 7: from the top because he moved out. He fired a
[1:13:55] Speaker 7: bunch of people in the front office and more will
[1:13:57] Speaker 7: probably go Now they're saying Kyrie's going to be on
[1:14:00] Speaker 7: the block to trade sooner than later. And knowing Masai's history,
[1:14:09] Speaker 7: he's hired two head coaches, and they were first-timers. So
[1:14:12] Speaker 7: he'll probably reach for somebody. We're not on our radar
[1:14:16] Speaker 7: right now. So he can just– he wants somebody who
[1:14:20] Speaker 7: will listen to him, who will take direction from him.
[1:14:24] Speaker 7: So now– the Dallas Mavericks just started from scratch to me.
[1:14:29] Speaker 7: But you do have a nice piece to build around
[1:14:32] Speaker 7: a young Cooper flag.
[1:14:36] Speaker 1: Mr. B, what do you think about the Mavs, Jason Kidd,
[1:14:38] Speaker 1: mutually agreeing to part ways?
[1:14:42] Speaker 8: I think the writing was on the wall when they
[1:14:44] Speaker 8: let Luka go. But with his time there, I mean,
[1:14:48] Speaker 8: I still think he has success. I mean, he got
[1:14:49] Speaker 8: to the finals. He is a point guard. He's one
[1:14:52] Speaker 8: of the greatest point guards ever to play this game.
[1:14:54] Speaker 8: So you saw what he did with Giannis, putting the
[1:14:57] Speaker 8: ball in his hands and what he did for Giannis.
[1:14:59] Speaker 8: And then even with Cooper Flagg this year, he didn't
[1:15:01] Speaker 8: want to play the point, but we saw some things
[1:15:04] Speaker 8: that I don't even think he knew he had. He's
[1:15:06] Speaker 8: the youngest ever to score 50 points. You know, yeah,
[1:15:09] Speaker 8: the team was bad, but he still did what he
[1:15:11] Speaker 8: was supposed to do. And I think the year that
[1:15:13] Speaker 8: he had under Jay Kidd, I think it's going to
[1:15:15] Speaker 8: help him out in the long run.
[1:15:18] Speaker 2: You know, like I said, just because we've seen what
[1:15:19] Speaker 2: he's done. So, Um, I'm not shocked.
[1:15:22] Speaker 8: I mean, you know, when, when new, when a new
[1:15:23] Speaker 8: GM or new everything comes in, you know, they usually
[1:15:26] Speaker 8: want their guy. Um, and, and now that he was
[1:15:29] Speaker 8: fighting for another position, like you said, you know, you
[1:15:31] Speaker 8: don't get that.
[1:15:31] Speaker 2: So you know what happens after that.
[1:15:33] Speaker 8: But overall, I mean, what is, I think he's still
[1:15:36] Speaker 8: about four years, 40 million left on his contract. So, um,
[1:15:40] Speaker 8: he's still be, he'll still be getting paid. Jason kid
[1:15:42] Speaker 8: would be somewhere in the basketball world before. Cause he
[1:15:44] Speaker 8: has one of the greatest minds ever, um, when it
[1:15:47] Speaker 8: comes to the game. And, um, Yeah, man, just, you know, unfortunate,
[1:15:50] Speaker 8: but things happen.
[1:15:52] Speaker 1: Four years, $ 40 million, not to coach. Obviously, Masai Ujiri,
[1:15:55] Speaker 1: Patrick Dumont, Mavs governor, made that decision. Kidd had got
[1:15:59] Speaker 1: that extension before last season. But, Shai, let's move on
[1:16:02] Speaker 1: to you. What do you think about Jason Kidd and
[1:16:04] Speaker 1: the Mavs parting ways after five seasons?
[1:16:07] Speaker 4: Well, there's two different dynamics to this. There is having
[1:16:12] Speaker 4: a coach that can coach players that have experience, players
[1:16:16] Speaker 4: that you can– actually not have to coach, go out
[1:16:21] Speaker 4: there and play the game that you know, give them
[1:16:22] Speaker 4: little tidbits here and there. I think that showed in
[1:16:25] Speaker 4: Brooklyn where he coached with KG, Darren Williams, all those guys,
[1:16:30] Speaker 4: get them to the playoffs without having to do too
[1:16:32] Speaker 4: much because they all know the game. And he can
[1:16:34] Speaker 4: use his mind based on not having to teach guys
[1:16:37] Speaker 4: where he needs them to be. I think that's what
[1:16:39] Speaker 4: happened in Milwaukee where he had to go into development mode.
[1:16:43] Speaker 4: And when you're going into development mode as a coach
[1:16:45] Speaker 4: that knows the game, there's two things that happen. You
[1:16:48] Speaker 4: clash or you thrive. And you look at Greg Popovich,
[1:16:52] Speaker 4: you're going to have to coach younger guys after tenure
[1:16:56] Speaker 4: when Tim Duncan and all those guys retired, didn't go well.
[1:17:00] Speaker 4: Steve Kerr, after the guys collapsed and he loses his
[1:17:03] Speaker 4: main guys, his centerpieces, things didn't go well. Phil Jackson
[1:17:08] Speaker 4: never put himself in that position, but I don't think
[1:17:10] Speaker 4: he's a development coach either. He wouldn't be able to
[1:17:12] Speaker 4: deal with young guys. That's why he didn't come down
[1:17:15] Speaker 4: to New York to coach those guys in New York.
[1:17:17] Speaker 4: Pat Riley, he was in Miami. He was coaching and
[1:17:20] Speaker 4: he didn't have Shaq and those guys anymore. It was
[1:17:22] Speaker 4: just D-Wade. It was like, look, Eric, come in here.
[1:17:25] Speaker 4: I'm not about to deal with these young guys like this.
[1:17:28] Speaker 4: So I think with a guy like Jason Kidd, you
[1:17:30] Speaker 4: got to put him in a position where he has
[1:17:32] Speaker 4: established guys that know how to play, that he can
[1:17:35] Speaker 4: give tidbits to, that they have respect for him to
[1:17:39] Speaker 4: understand what he needs and wants to see and go
[1:17:42] Speaker 4: out and execute it. And I think this year was
[1:17:44] Speaker 4: a big glaring year for him admitting that he's good
[1:17:48] Speaker 4: at developing players. But you have to then, at the
[1:17:51] Speaker 4: same time, try to win games with the expectations of
[1:17:54] Speaker 4: who you are. And I think that was the clash
[1:17:56] Speaker 4: with Dallas. They had some type of expectation of him
[1:17:59] Speaker 4: to still win games without having AD and Kyrie and
[1:18:02] Speaker 4: having him being like, show us something with Cooper. And
[1:18:04] Speaker 4: it's like, I can only show you how good I
[1:18:05] Speaker 4: can make them. I can't give you 50 wins and
[1:18:09] Speaker 4: then take you to the conference finals with Cooper Flagg.
[1:18:12] Speaker 4: And to Skip's point, if you do have Kyrie, AD,
[1:18:16] Speaker 4: Klay Thompson and all those guys readily available, it looks
[1:18:20] Speaker 4: different for Jason Kidd. It definitely looks different for him.
[1:18:23] Speaker 4: And as brilliant as he is as a point guard, there's,
[1:18:27] Speaker 4: like I said, two dynamics of coaching that you have
[1:18:29] Speaker 4: to adapt to, whether you're going to be a development
[1:18:32] Speaker 4: coach or you're going to be that veteran, you know,
[1:18:35] Speaker 4: winning coach that you don't have to do a lot with.
[1:18:38] Speaker 4: So he'll definitely get another opportunity because you can't let
[1:18:41] Speaker 4: that type of mind go to waste with all these
[1:18:43] Speaker 4: different teams out here that they're just getting rid of
[1:18:45] Speaker 4: coaches left and right. I think he'll have a place somewhere. Um,
[1:18:50] Speaker 4: he'll still continue to be who he is and thrive,
[1:18:53] Speaker 4: so just trying to figure out where that will be.
[1:18:56] Speaker 1: So Mavs have the ninth and the 30th pick in
[1:18:58] Speaker 1: the draft this year, so obviously they're going to build
[1:19:01] Speaker 1: to the future, try to surround Cooper, I believe, with
[1:19:03] Speaker 1: a team that will put them in the right direction. McKinnon,
[1:19:07] Speaker 1: when you hear this news, Jason Kidd, Mavs mutually agreeing
[1:19:11] Speaker 1: to part ways with your former teammate. What's your reaction
[1:19:13] Speaker 1: to that? I'm not surprised.
[1:19:17] Speaker 2: Bringing a new guy in up top, new ownership within
[1:19:21] Speaker 2: the last few years. Them trading Luka. To Brandon's point,
[1:19:26] Speaker 2: the writing was on the wall then. It was just
[1:19:30] Speaker 2: a matter of time, I think, and the way the
[1:19:32] Speaker 2: season went, the way the season ended. On a high
[1:19:36] Speaker 2: note for Cooper Flagg, but Overall, not so much. But
[1:19:41] Speaker 2: having a ninth pick I think is going to help.
[1:19:43] Speaker 2: Masai wants his own guy in there. He wants to
[1:19:48] Speaker 2: have that voice, have a guy that he has that
[1:19:50] Speaker 2: relationship with. Getting rid of a lot of the previous
[1:19:56] Speaker 2: regime and starting over fresh I think is needed in
[1:20:00] Speaker 2: a lot of situations where you have winning average. With
[1:20:04] Speaker 2: winning ways before, you want to get back to those.
[1:20:07] Speaker 2: I think the Dallas Mavericks have that. You have a
[1:20:10] Speaker 2: cornerstone piece in the Cooper flag to build around. If
[1:20:13] Speaker 2: they are going to move Kyrie, I don't think it's
[1:20:15] Speaker 2: a bad thing. You can get something great for him.
[1:20:17] Speaker 2: Still a hell of a talent with coming off of injury,
[1:20:21] Speaker 2: but having time to rest I think has been beneficial
[1:20:24] Speaker 2: for him. So I'm pretty sure wherever he lands will
[1:20:26] Speaker 2: be great. And the Mavs will get something back for
[1:20:29] Speaker 2: him to help with that. But, yeah, this is Jason
[1:20:33] Speaker 2: Kidd's third job. Does he get another one? 500 regular
[1:20:41] Speaker 2: season record. Mason made a deep run in the playoffs
[1:20:44] Speaker 2: last year. I mean, a couple years ago. But does it?
[1:20:49] Speaker 2: And I'm glad you made that point about the development
[1:20:53] Speaker 2: part of it, right? I was there when my last
[1:20:55] Speaker 2: year in the league. I was there to watch the
[1:21:00] Speaker 2: beginning of the emergence of Giannis, right? and the things
[1:21:04] Speaker 2: that they implemented to get Giannis better. Don't know if
[1:21:09] Speaker 2: it was J-Kid, don't even know if it was Giannis'
[1:21:11] Speaker 2: people or a collective, a group, everybody in the room collectively,
[1:21:17] Speaker 2: and come up with a game plan on how to
[1:21:19] Speaker 2: get Giannis to where he become, became rather. And at
[1:21:23] Speaker 2: the time I'm like, yo, they're abusing this kid. Right?
[1:21:26] Speaker 2: And I told him when I saw him at the
[1:21:27] Speaker 2: Dunker this couple years ago, cause I hadn't seen him since.
[1:21:30] Speaker 2: I'm like, yo man, I thought they was abusing you.
[1:21:31] Speaker 2: And he laughed and said how they was. But it
[1:21:35] Speaker 2: was worth it. And just for J.K. to be a
[1:21:37] Speaker 2: part of that, the development part I saw, right? And Giannis,
[1:21:41] Speaker 2: we all know what the product has become, right? And
[1:21:45] Speaker 2: at the same time, the same player, J.K. not having
[1:21:49] Speaker 2: the patience when you're making mistakes throughout the course of
[1:21:54] Speaker 2: the game. So with that, I could see where there
[1:21:58] Speaker 2: was a clash, right? With Cooper Flagg and certain way
[1:22:01] Speaker 2: of coaching him and certain, your way of The way
[1:22:05] Speaker 2: you see the game and the way you expect guys
[1:22:07] Speaker 2: to go out and play and the way you voice
[1:22:09] Speaker 2: those things, I could see a problem. Because within the
[1:22:14] Speaker 2: confines of locker room and things, J. Kidd is a
[1:22:18] Speaker 2: straight shooter. You might come across media as passive and
[1:22:22] Speaker 2: soft-spoken in those things. But when put in a situation
[1:22:28] Speaker 2: or pissed off, he's going to tell you exactly what
[1:22:30] Speaker 2: it is. And we saw a few times on the
[1:22:33] Speaker 2: press conference, I know how to develop players, what the
[1:22:35] Speaker 2: heck can you tell me?
[1:22:36] Speaker 4: All them assholes.
[1:22:38] Speaker 2: You see that part of it, but that's very rare
[1:22:43] Speaker 2: publicly for him. But when we are in this locker
[1:22:47] Speaker 2: room and when things are competitive, he doesn't have that
[1:22:53] Speaker 2: tact to sugarcoat it for you. I can see young
[1:22:57] Speaker 2: players not being able to handle that. And if you
[1:23:00] Speaker 2: are that way with This generation of number one pick
[1:23:04] Speaker 2: and Cooper Flagg, I could see where there could have
[1:23:06] Speaker 2: been a clash with that. So them parting ways, I've
[1:23:10] Speaker 2: never heard somebody mutually being fired, but this is mutually
[1:23:19] Speaker 2: decision to step. You play on people's intelligence. At this point.
[1:23:24] Speaker 1: We owe you $ 40 million.
[1:23:26] Speaker 2: Yeah, we owe you $ 40 million, but we're just going
[1:23:27] Speaker 2: to pay you to stay home. Like, come on. Like,
[1:23:29] Speaker 2: you fired the man. Your Mavs great. Yeah, I know
[1:23:31] Speaker 2: it looks better on the resume to say that I
[1:23:34] Speaker 2: did get fired. Like, we mutually parted ways, but it's,
[1:23:39] Speaker 2: we see what it is. And Jaquit is a beautiful
[1:23:42] Speaker 2: basketball mind. I can see him in certain situations, but
[1:23:46] Speaker 2: you're on your third gig.
[1:23:48] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[1:23:50] Speaker 2: Is there another opportunity out there for the way the
[1:23:53] Speaker 2: game is moving forward?
[1:23:54] Speaker 3: Orlando is open.
[1:23:56] Speaker 2: True.
[1:23:56] Speaker 3: Right.
[1:23:57] Speaker 2: No, there's jobs out there.
[1:23:58] Speaker 1: And I'm saying, but what, what might, might be headed
[1:24:00] Speaker 1: over there?
[1:24:01] Speaker 2: Orlando, Billy Donovan.
[1:24:02] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[1:24:03] Speaker 2: So what? Yes.
[1:24:04] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:24:04] Speaker 2: Yeah. But what, what is, is what direction do you
[1:24:07] Speaker 2: want to go? You're right.
[1:24:10] Speaker 4: After that.
[1:24:12] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:24:14] Speaker 4: No, it's going to.
[1:24:15] Speaker 2: Be interesting who, who Messiah brings in. Um, because his
[1:24:20] Speaker 2: way of analytical thinking, the way they approach it in
[1:24:24] Speaker 2: Toronto when he was at the Hams, I'm pretty sure
[1:24:26] Speaker 2: they'll bring that same recipe and thought process to the
[1:24:30] Speaker 2: Dallas Mavericks. But yeah, it's going to be interesting who
[1:24:34] Speaker 2: they hire, but yeah, this is It's the right time
[1:24:38] Speaker 2: to do it. The draft is coming up. You know
[1:24:39] Speaker 2: what you're trying to do for the future. Everybody being
[1:24:42] Speaker 2: on the same page. I'm pretty sure they'll hire a coach.
[1:24:45] Speaker 2: He has a short list. They'll hire someone quick, I'm sure.
[1:24:48] Speaker 2: The draft is coming up. The draft process is coming up.
[1:24:51] Speaker 2: You're having guys in and out for workouts now. So, yeah,
[1:24:54] Speaker 2: you want that head coach to have some say-so in that.
[1:24:57] Speaker 1: We will see what goes down with the man.
[1:25:04] Speaker 2: Indeed.
[1:25:07] Speaker 1: You're our inside man out there, so you will keep
[1:25:09] Speaker 1: us up to date on all the... We got some
[1:25:11] Speaker 1: co-music going.
[1:25:12] Speaker 2: So let's talk about.
[1:25:13] Speaker 1: Something that went down last week that we haven't addressed
[1:25:15] Speaker 1: yet on this couch. So the Spurs eliminated the Wolves
[1:25:18] Speaker 1: in six games in Minnesota this past Friday. 30-point blowout.
[1:25:21] Speaker 1: There was a moment that had the internet buzzing. Let's
[1:25:24] Speaker 1: take a look at it. So Chris Finch and the
[1:25:25] Speaker 1: Wolves waved the white flag early in the fourth quarter.
[1:25:29] Speaker 1: Finch benches starters, and during the timeout with a little
[1:25:31] Speaker 1: over eight minutes remaining, the squad down by 33. Ant-Man
[1:25:35] Speaker 1: walked over to the Spurs bench. to dap up damn
[1:25:38] Speaker 1: near everyone on their sideline to congratulate them on their
[1:25:42] Speaker 1: impending win. Interrupted the stoppage of play. Made sure, even
[1:25:54] Speaker 1: dapped up Kelly Olenek, as you see, with the half-dap
[1:25:57] Speaker 1: for Kelly. Amongst others, Ant was asked about the move
[1:26:04] Speaker 1: and had this response.
[1:26:05] Speaker 2: At that point, You know you ain't going back in,
[1:26:08] Speaker 2: so you're just trying to get them the respect they deserve.
[1:26:11] Speaker 4: So, yeah.
[1:26:13] Speaker 1: Well, Skip, when you watched that, I heard you laughing
[1:26:17] Speaker 1: while watching the clip. What's your reaction to Ant-Man dapping
[1:26:19] Speaker 1: up the Spurs with eight minutes left in that game?
[1:26:22] Speaker 3: I didn't like it.
[1:26:24] Speaker 7: And I like him a lot, and I think he's
[1:26:26] Speaker 7: still growing up right before your very eyes as the
[1:26:30] Speaker 7: leader of that franchise.
[1:26:32] Speaker 3: But you win.
[1:26:34] Speaker 7: Together individually, And you definitely learn to win by losing together.
[1:26:41] Speaker 7: And that was a look at me move. That was,
[1:26:45] Speaker 7: I'm apart from my team, I'm above my team. It's
[1:26:49] Speaker 7: a grandstand move. It's a self-promotional move. And leaders lead
[1:26:56] Speaker 7: with the team, not apart from the team. And so
[1:26:59] Speaker 7: you guys have sat through A lot of losses in
[1:27:06] Speaker 7: your time because everybody does. And you just sit with
[1:27:10] Speaker 7: your guys. You're down 128 to 95.
[1:27:14] Speaker 3: I got it.
[1:27:15] Speaker 7: But you sit with them and you lose with them
[1:27:18] Speaker 7: and you feel it with them. And then you do
[1:27:22] Speaker 7: what everybody does. Then as a group, you go and
[1:27:25] Speaker 7: you congratulate them for kicking your asses because they kicked
[1:27:29] Speaker 7: your asses. Okay, I got it. But you don't do that.
[1:27:34] Speaker 7: I've never seen anybody do that, and I've watched a
[1:27:37] Speaker 7: lot of great players.
[1:27:39] Speaker 3: And I.
[1:27:41] Speaker 7: Realized it was concession, and he framed it correctly afterward
[1:27:44] Speaker 7: by saying, well, I wanted to give them the respect
[1:27:46] Speaker 7: that they had earned.
[1:27:48] Speaker 3: But you can do that.
[1:27:49] Speaker 7: When the game ends because you don't want to look
[1:27:52] Speaker 7: like you're above and beyond your team. You don't want
[1:27:55] Speaker 7: to look like I don't want to associate with my team.
[1:27:58] Speaker 7: I just want to end this now. And That rubbed
[1:28:03] Speaker 7: me the wrong way.
[1:28:08] Speaker 1: Can you agree or disagree with Skip? Grandstanding. He is
[1:28:12] Speaker 1: the representative of the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise player, but eight
[1:28:15] Speaker 1: minutes to go in that game. Still time left on
[1:28:17] Speaker 1: the clock. Elimination game.
[1:28:20] Speaker 2: See, Skip has been in media and stuff a lot
[1:28:23] Speaker 2: longer than me, so his choice words for him are
[1:28:27] Speaker 2: a little different. That's some bullshit, man. Like straight up,
[1:28:34] Speaker 2: like us being in this shit together and game is
[1:28:40] Speaker 2: not like, yeah, I had a problem, a big time
[1:28:43] Speaker 2: problem with it. And we probably would have fought in
[1:28:46] Speaker 2: the locker room after the fact. Like I would have,
[1:28:49] Speaker 2: I would have tried him in the locker room after
[1:28:51] Speaker 2: the fact. It probably, we probably wouldn't have made it
[1:28:54] Speaker 2: to the locker room.
[1:28:55] Speaker 4: Yeah. What the fuck you just do down there?
[1:28:57] Speaker 2: That would have been my ass in real time. So,
[1:29:03] Speaker 2: I'm too competitive for that. I'm in this foxhole with y'all.
[1:29:08] Speaker 2: I'm not standing over, like to your point, Skip, I'm
[1:29:10] Speaker 2: not standing over the foxhole and, hey, what y'all need? Like, no,
[1:29:13] Speaker 2: we're not doing that in this thing, man. You are
[1:29:17] Speaker 2: the leader of that team. It looked, I don't want
[1:29:23] Speaker 2: to get into name calling about it, but it was
[1:29:27] Speaker 2: something I had never seen. It was something that It's,
[1:29:33] Speaker 2: as competitors, it's frowned upon. During the course of the game,
[1:29:40] Speaker 2: the game's still going on. Okay, yeah, you wave the
[1:29:42] Speaker 2: white flag. We get it. But as a head coach,
[1:29:45] Speaker 2: how do you feel as Chris Fish? How do you
[1:29:47] Speaker 2: feel about that? Like, do you address him publicly? Do
[1:29:52] Speaker 2: you go to the front office and demand we do
[1:30:00] Speaker 2: something because that's unacceptable for me as a coach. Because
[1:30:05] Speaker 2: it is, it's unacceptable, man. Behavior from any player, but
[1:30:09] Speaker 2: especially my guy. It's a loser's quitter's thing, man. And
[1:30:20] Speaker 2: I don't look at Anthony Edwards as that. But that
[1:30:23] Speaker 2: moment showed something totally different than the competitor I thought
[1:30:28] Speaker 2: he was. And is. Yeah, but for me, it's for us, man.
[1:30:36] Speaker 2: Y'all been in this thing together. Y'all competed. Y'all won
[1:30:39] Speaker 2: with teammates. Y'all lost with teammates. We played bad. We
[1:30:42] Speaker 2: played great. But to see that happen. And for the Spurs, right?
[1:30:50] Speaker 2: What does that do moving forward to our confidence with
[1:30:53] Speaker 2: this guy? I don't respect you anymore. I don't care
[1:30:58] Speaker 2: for how well you played during the NBA season. As
[1:31:01] Speaker 2: somebody who will have to see you at a minimum
[1:31:03] Speaker 2: four times next year, I've lost all respect for you.
[1:31:11] Speaker 2: When he walked off, I'm doing so proud over there like,
[1:31:14] Speaker 2: fuck this. Like, When he walked over, I thought he
[1:31:17] Speaker 2: was just going to shake Ms. Johnson's hand. Like, all right,
[1:31:19] Speaker 2: I don't like that, but all right, you just going
[1:31:22] Speaker 2: to shake the head coach's hand like, hey, you have
[1:31:24] Speaker 2: my number? I'll see you next year? But to go
[1:31:28] Speaker 2: around each fucking assistant coaches, the trainer, the ball boys
[1:31:32] Speaker 2: that they bring, like, everybody gets a dap.
[1:31:34] Speaker 3: Kelly Olenek.
[1:31:35] Speaker 4: Right?
[1:31:36] Speaker 1: Even Kelly Olenek got a half dap, not a full.
[1:31:39] Speaker 2: Plumlee, like, them dudes ain't touch the floor one minute
[1:31:42] Speaker 2: against you, and you over there dabbing people up who, like, no, dawg. Like, nah, man,
[1:31:47] Speaker 2: I'm glad we got to this because it was, yeah, we,
[1:31:49] Speaker 2: I talked about it with other people, man, but it's
[1:31:52] Speaker 2: fucking unacceptable as a competitor in this at the highest level.
[1:31:58] Speaker 2: You wouldn't, you have a problem if a child did it.
[1:32:00] Speaker 2: So at the highest level, man, we fighting for something
[1:32:03] Speaker 2: out here, man. It's unacceptable, man.
[1:32:07] Speaker 4: Unacceptable.
[1:32:07] Speaker 1: Let's shift over to you, Mr. B. What do you
[1:32:10] Speaker 1: think about Ant-Man dapping up the Spurs, congratulating them on
[1:32:13] Speaker 1: their series win with eight minutes left to go in
[1:32:15] Speaker 1: that game?
[1:32:17] Speaker 8: He was dapping them up like it was his last
[1:32:19] Speaker 8: time being in a T-Wolves jersey. I mean, you know,
[1:32:23] Speaker 8: I mean, I got to look at that like at
[1:32:26] Speaker 8: a front office from a coaching standpoint, from my teammates.
[1:32:30] Speaker 8: I mean, it's definitely something we've never seen before. and he's,
[1:32:33] Speaker 8: you know, he's a guy who, I wish Nick Young.
[1:32:35] Speaker 2: Was here, because I could be like, well, this is
[1:32:37] Speaker 2: your face of the NBA. So, you know, how, you know,
[1:32:41] Speaker 2: this is an example. You know what I'm saying?
[1:32:44] Speaker 8: So this is what he does, you know, with eight
[1:32:46] Speaker 8: minutes to go. You know, we're always known to have sportsmanship, and,
[1:32:51] Speaker 8: you know, we do that at the end of the game.
[1:32:53] Speaker 8: You know, especially in the playoff series, you know, you
[1:32:56] Speaker 8: go shake the guy's hands, you know, if you want.
[1:32:57] Speaker 2: Or sometimes you just don't.
[1:32:59] Speaker 8: But, I just think with the NBA, you know, you
[1:33:02] Speaker 8: only get so many chances to.
[1:33:03] Speaker 2: Do like, you know, to, to, to show who you
[1:33:05] Speaker 2: really are.
[1:33:06] Speaker 8: Um, and, and this was one, um, especially in the
[1:33:09] Speaker 8: area that we live in today, you know, so from.
[1:33:12] Speaker 2: Here going out, you know, going out now, he's going
[1:33:14] Speaker 2: to have.
[1:33:14] Speaker 8: To really take his game to the next level and
[1:33:16] Speaker 8: show that that was just a stunt or, or something because,
[1:33:19] Speaker 8: you know, next year now you have a target on
[1:33:21] Speaker 8: your back. Um, so when you're down 20 again in
[1:33:25] Speaker 8: the fourth or something, you're just going to, you might
[1:33:26] Speaker 8: as well just go shake somebody else's hand every time now. Um,
[1:33:30] Speaker 8: so you just got to be careful with things like
[1:33:32] Speaker 8: that and you know and how you present yourself I
[1:33:35] Speaker 8: mean look a hell of a talent you know shows
[1:33:38] Speaker 8: up all the time you know off the court marketability
[1:33:42] Speaker 8: is crazy but like Kenyon said from a competitor standpoint
[1:33:46] Speaker 8: from other guys it's like hey shit man all we
[1:33:48] Speaker 8: got to do is be up by 30 or 40
[1:33:49] Speaker 8: come shake our hands with 8 minutes left you know
[1:33:52] Speaker 8: some type of shit like that so that's just what
[1:33:54] Speaker 8: you're leaving on guys face and guys remember and next
[1:33:57] Speaker 8: year is going to get even harder so You see
[1:33:59] Speaker 8: with San Antonio, they're not getting no worse. OKC's going
[1:34:04] Speaker 8: to make 10. Everybody's going to be better next year.
[1:34:06] Speaker 8: So whatever that was, maybe that was your last game.
[1:34:09] Speaker 8: Or maybe you're just telling them, hey, my time here
[1:34:12] Speaker 8: is done.
[1:34:14] Speaker 1: Like you mentioned, tough to see an American surrendering to
[1:34:17] Speaker 1: a Frenchman.
[1:34:18] Speaker 2: I mean, we've been telling y'all about that. We've been
[1:34:20] Speaker 2: telling y'all that Americans got to bow down. Yeah.
[1:34:23] Speaker 1: He did.
[1:34:24] Speaker 8: We've been saying this for three years.
[1:34:28] Speaker 1: We've been crazy. Playing the long game, Amir Ropa dope.
[1:34:31] Speaker 1: Let us hope. But, Sean, you watched the situation. Ant-Man
[1:34:34] Speaker 1: walking over to the Spurs sideline during a stoppage of
[1:34:37] Speaker 1: play over eight minutes ago in the game. Down 33.
[1:34:40] Speaker 1: Game pretty much decided. Wolves had already waved the white flag.
[1:34:45] Speaker 1: What's your reaction to Ant-Man dapping up the Spurs? In particular,
[1:34:47] Speaker 1: Kelly Olenek.
[1:34:48] Speaker 4: No, I'm just kidding. Um, Leadership is lonely, but leadership
[1:34:53] Speaker 4: is not selfish. And when you think about the statement,
[1:34:58] Speaker 4: everything y'all highlighted as.
[1:35:00] Speaker 2: Far as foxhole, as far.
[1:35:04] Speaker 4: As I'm with my guys, win as a team, we
[1:35:07] Speaker 4: lose as a team. When your leader puts up a
[1:35:12] Speaker 4: white flag, say essentially, there is no white flag when
[1:35:16] Speaker 4: I'm dying on my shield. There ain't no I gave up,
[1:35:21] Speaker 4: especially in this series where we fought tooth and nail.
[1:35:25] Speaker 4: We clawed and we scratched and we bit. We got elbows.
[1:35:30] Speaker 4: We threw elbows. This is a rivalry. This is us
[1:35:34] Speaker 4: against them. Next year, I can't wait to get back here.
[1:35:38] Speaker 4: Matter of fact, I might not shake nobody's hand. How
[1:35:41] Speaker 4: many times have we seen LeBron James walk to the
[1:35:43] Speaker 4: fucking locker room and not shake nobody's hand? Isaiah Thomas, shit, shit.
[1:35:49] Speaker 4: Kobe Bryant in 2003, lost to the Spurs. Man, did
[1:35:52] Speaker 4: that interview. Man, he didn't want to shake nobody's hand.
[1:35:55] Speaker 4: I'm coming back next year with a vengeance. I can't
[1:35:57] Speaker 4: wait to work my ass off to get back to
[1:35:59] Speaker 4: this spot so I can take these guys out. I
[1:36:03] Speaker 4: think this generation is taking for granted the paycheck over
[1:36:07] Speaker 4: the performance. I think that when you're so good with
[1:36:11] Speaker 4: how you're living and your lifestyle, you forget about competitiveness.
[1:36:15] Speaker 4: Being a true competitor means... I don't give a fuck
[1:36:19] Speaker 4: about what's going over there.
[1:36:21] Speaker 2: We just got our ass beat.
[1:36:23] Speaker 4: There ain't a bone in my body that's going to
[1:36:26] Speaker 4: smile and go look at the coach and shake his hand.
[1:36:28] Speaker 2: There's no way. In the back of the tunnel, after
[1:36:32] Speaker 2: we even got out of the shower, and my message
[1:36:34] Speaker 2: would be, I'll see you next year.
[1:36:37] Speaker 4: Holla.
[1:36:39] Speaker 2: I'll see you next year.
[1:36:40] Speaker 4: Holla. I might dap you up with the elbow. But
[1:36:45] Speaker 4: watch out. My... it's one thing to be emotional but
[1:36:49] Speaker 4: it's one thing to just be critical like when you're
[1:36:52] Speaker 4: critical of your performances we just got our asses whooped.
[1:36:55] Speaker 2: At home.
[1:36:57] Speaker 4: Nah nah last thing i'm doing is trying to shake
[1:37:00] Speaker 4: y'all hand and let y'all know i gave y'all respect
[1:37:02] Speaker 4: there's never respect respect nothing even if you beat me
[1:37:08] Speaker 4: yes i was wrong but i'm always right I'm always right.
[1:37:12] Speaker 2: Even when I'm wrong, I'm always right.
[1:37:14] Speaker 4: You will never get me to admit that I'm wrong.
[1:37:16] Speaker 2: All right, you're going to be like Isaiah Thomas. Never.
[1:37:19] Speaker 2: You're going to be off that USA team. You're going
[1:37:21] Speaker 2: to shake his hand. Never. Yeah, no, but that's like,
[1:37:24] Speaker 2: I don't think losing bothers these guys enough. At all. Like,
[1:37:29] Speaker 2: for me, I'm a sore loser, though. I ain't going
[1:37:32] Speaker 2: to even hold you. Like, to your point, shaking hands
[1:37:34] Speaker 2: after the playoff series and all that, I'm not shaking
[1:37:36] Speaker 2: your fucking hand, bro. I'm just not. Like, you just
[1:37:39] Speaker 2: beat me. That's like, we're not finna... I'm a big
[1:37:45] Speaker 2: fan of boxing and mixed martial arts and different things
[1:37:49] Speaker 2: like that. They get done, they shake hands. I don't
[1:37:53] Speaker 2: think I could have been in that because you're trying
[1:37:56] Speaker 2: to knock my head off. You're trying to hurt me
[1:37:59] Speaker 2: in here. So what about boxing? I'm the same way.
[1:38:04] Speaker 2: But when you guys are here at this and one
[1:38:05] Speaker 2: guy like that, you just like... I dig it. You won.
[1:38:08] Speaker 2: I don't have to do that. I don't have to
[1:38:11] Speaker 2: do that. There's nothing in the rule book that says
[1:38:13] Speaker 2: I have to dap you up after that. No, no, no.
[1:38:16] Speaker 2: Not you.
[1:38:17] Speaker 8: What if the other guy just comes up to you
[1:38:19] Speaker 8: and be like, yo, man.
[1:38:19] Speaker 2: That's cool. I'll accept that. But for me to initiate it,
[1:38:26] Speaker 2: for me to walk over there after the game, we
[1:38:28] Speaker 2: meet at... Dude, we got to be something real special
[1:38:32] Speaker 2: for me. We got to have this bond before we
[1:38:35] Speaker 2: started this. I'm just saying for me, how I approached it.
[1:38:39] Speaker 2: I just... So when you win, though, if it don't
[1:38:45] Speaker 2: matter win or lose, it don't matter. I'm not going
[1:38:48] Speaker 2: to go up to you after we beat you, or
[1:38:50] Speaker 2: if you beat me, I'm not walking up to you,
[1:38:53] Speaker 2: better luck next time, or you just beat me and
[1:38:57] Speaker 2: you want a good season. I'm not.
[1:39:00] Speaker 4: I'm not.
[1:39:01] Speaker 2: So what about the respect for the game? I respect
[1:39:03] Speaker 2: the game as it is, but there's nothing that says
[1:39:05] Speaker 2: I have to Do that part of it. When we're
[1:39:13] Speaker 2: in the 94-50, I respect that. I respect playing hard.
[1:39:17] Speaker 2: I respect us competing. I respect all of that. But
[1:39:21] Speaker 2: there's nothing after the fact that says when this is over,
[1:39:25] Speaker 2: I have to shake your fucking hand.
[1:39:27] Speaker 8: So do you respect if they have a problem with
[1:39:31] Speaker 8: you not doing that?
[1:39:32] Speaker 2: Cool. I have a problem with it. Cool. You can't
[1:39:35] Speaker 2: beat me. Cool. What's next? My thing, what's next?
[1:39:41] Speaker 8: Well, what's next is you're going to be off the
[1:39:43] Speaker 8: USA team and you're going to.
[1:39:45] Speaker 2: But that's... But that was the whole.
[1:39:46] Speaker 8: No, no, I know, but I'm just saying, like, but
[1:39:48] Speaker 8: I'm saying the respect of, like, we've seen the consequences
[1:39:51] Speaker 8: when people don't.
[1:39:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, but that was that era, but for me as
[1:39:55] Speaker 2: just individually, right?
[1:39:57] Speaker 7: Mm-hmm.
[1:39:59] Speaker 2: Winning and, like, winning and losing, like, does something to
[1:40:04] Speaker 2: me and for me, right? That's just me as... Okay. Like,
[1:40:06] Speaker 2: my mom stayed with me for two seasons in Denver, right?
[1:40:10] Speaker 2: And I remember it vividly. We used to get in
[1:40:11] Speaker 2: the car after the game, and I remember one day,
[1:40:13] Speaker 2: somebody asked me something, and I didn't, I had nothing
[1:40:16] Speaker 2: to say. I, like, she, like, I just, I could
[1:40:18] Speaker 2: still hear, like, I hate when he gets like this.
[1:40:21] Speaker 2: This is a regular season game, dog. Like, I hate
[1:40:25] Speaker 2: when he gets like this. We had lost, like, three
[1:40:27] Speaker 2: straight or some shit, and I'm, I just don't do
[1:40:31] Speaker 2: it well. Like, I'm, I understand one team has to
[1:40:35] Speaker 2: lose and one team has to win. I do. I
[1:40:37] Speaker 2: understand that part of it. Nobody's 100% in it. But
[1:40:42] Speaker 2: I care too much. Maybe it's internal or maybe it's
[1:40:47] Speaker 2: a fault of mine that I care entirely too much.
[1:40:51] Speaker 2: So you care too much to not shake the opponent's hand?
[1:40:54] Speaker 3: Yes.
[1:40:55] Speaker 8: I'm just saying, so the fact that you won't even
[1:40:58] Speaker 8: shake their hands or what Garland said, so what.
[1:41:00] Speaker 2: Ant-Man did, It's still sportsmanship at the end of the
[1:41:03] Speaker 2: day now, then. And I fucking think that's overrated. Sportsmanship?
[1:41:08] Speaker 2: I think sportsmanship is overrated. To a certain degree. To
[1:41:11] Speaker 2: a certain degree.
[1:41:13] Speaker 8: I'm just saying, okay, you got Magic Bird back in
[1:41:17] Speaker 8: the 80s.
[1:41:17] Speaker 2: I respect you, but I want you. I shake their hands.
[1:41:22] Speaker 8: The respect was so much to where they did commercials together.
[1:41:25] Speaker 2: They cried.
[1:41:26] Speaker 3: It took a while, trust me.
[1:41:28] Speaker 2: I was there. It took a while. As you get older,
[1:41:32] Speaker 2: we see the top 75.
[1:41:34] Speaker 3: It was after they were both established. They each won
[1:41:37] Speaker 3: a championship.
[1:41:38] Speaker 2: I'll see you a month later, two months later at
[1:41:40] Speaker 2: the bar or something. I'll get you a drink or
[1:41:43] Speaker 2: a shot. I'll get you a drink or a shot.
[1:41:47] Speaker 2: Mike wasn't cool with the guys he was going against.
[1:41:50] Speaker 2: Mike will hang out with the Knicks and Mike will
[1:41:52] Speaker 2: hang out with Pat Ewing the night before and go
[1:41:54] Speaker 2: out and bust his head to the white. That's fine.
[1:41:56] Speaker 2: That's his man's off day. They can hang out before,
[1:41:59] Speaker 2: but that's the same thing. I can hang out with
[1:42:01] Speaker 2: you before. Listen, we could have been out till 3
[1:42:03] Speaker 2: in the morning. Me and you can be out. We
[1:42:05] Speaker 2: play tomorrow. We can be out till 3 in the morning.
[1:42:10] Speaker 2: We lose by 30? Don't text me nothing? After, yeah.
[1:42:17] Speaker 4: As soon as the bomb go off, the horn go off,
[1:42:20] Speaker 4: I'm not going.
[1:42:20] Speaker 2: To walk up to you and be like, my nigga.
[1:42:23] Speaker 2: I'm not going to do it. I fuck with you.
[1:42:25] Speaker 4: Ten toes.
[1:42:26] Speaker 2: We've been from the sandbox. But you still have respect though. Yes,
[1:42:31] Speaker 2: the respect is there. But soon as we get done,
[1:42:38] Speaker 2: I'm still on 10. Give me an hour. Listen, when
[1:42:42] Speaker 2: the game started, I was on 13, 14, right? When
[1:42:45] Speaker 2: it's over, I'm still on 10. I need time to, hey,
[1:42:51] Speaker 2: the process of what the fuck, how I play for one,
[1:42:56] Speaker 2: and then we can go from there. But as soon
[1:42:59] Speaker 2: as we get done.
[1:43:02] Speaker 2: Nah, because I don't want to misinterpret anything. That's just me.
[1:43:06] Speaker 2: I hear you.
[1:43:07] Speaker 7: Source loser I was ever around was Michael Jordan, but
[1:43:11] Speaker 7: he went 6-0 in the final because of that.
[1:43:14] Speaker 2: What do you mean?
[1:43:15] Speaker 7: Like regular season games, the last thing he wanted to
[1:43:21] Speaker 7: do was shaking anybody's hand, especially the way Ant just
[1:43:24] Speaker 7: shook their hand.
[1:43:25] Speaker 1: Okay.
[1:43:26] Speaker 7: That's not, it's like Kenyon says, it's not in your makeup.
[1:43:29] Speaker 7: It's not in your psyche.
[1:43:31] Speaker 3: It's not who you are.
[1:43:32] Speaker 7: You just, yeah, he can go hang with Barkley before
[1:43:37] Speaker 7: he goes and kicks Barkley's ass.
[1:43:39] Speaker 4: There's a difference though, man. I mean, I can't say
[1:43:41] Speaker 4: that I'm a sore loser. There is a respect for
[1:43:44] Speaker 4: the game that is integrated in the sportsmanship. When you
[1:43:49] Speaker 4: do beat a motherfucker ass and you, whether it's a
[1:43:53] Speaker 4: dap up or elbow or or a look in the face,
[1:43:56] Speaker 4: I'll see you later. There's still a respect level. There
[1:44:01] Speaker 4: is a disrespect level. And I think with sports, we've
[1:44:05] Speaker 4: gotten to a point that we've lost the middle ground of,
[1:44:09] Speaker 4: regardless of, like you said, the Magic and Bird, Michael
[1:44:13] Speaker 4: and Isaiah. At some point, there still was a come
[1:44:17] Speaker 4: to the middle and, all right, go ahead about your business,
[1:44:20] Speaker 4: KG and Chris Webber. You know, Paul and D. Wade
[1:44:25] Speaker 4: and there's a lot of different scenarios we can throw
[1:44:27] Speaker 4: in there. But you never let them see you laugh.
[1:44:30] Speaker 4: You never let them see you cry. But as a warrior,
[1:44:34] Speaker 4: you know that I'm not trying to wave no white flag.
[1:44:38] Speaker 4: I'm not trying to be friends with nobody. But if
[1:44:41] Speaker 4: you beat me, you beat me. If I lose, I lose.
[1:44:45] Speaker 4: I got to be able to take my losses like
[1:44:46] Speaker 4: I take my wins.
[1:44:47] Speaker 2: Absolutely.
[1:44:48] Speaker 4: And if I could take my wins and everybody can
[1:44:51] Speaker 4: celebrate me, I got to be able to get criticized.
[1:44:54] Speaker 2: When I lose.
[1:44:55] Speaker 4: And I'm not going across the side to do some
[1:44:58] Speaker 4: extra shit to make everybody feel good about our loss.
[1:45:01] Speaker 4: And I think that's what he did. He tried to
[1:45:03] Speaker 4: jump ahead of the loss and have everybody feel like
[1:45:08] Speaker 4: he was being the ultimate sportsman.
[1:45:10] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:45:10] Speaker 2: And it didn't.
[1:45:11] Speaker 4: It was unnecessary.
[1:45:12] Speaker 2: Backfired. But didn't the coach weigh the white flag? Still, though.
[1:45:15] Speaker 4: Regardless of the coach, because the coach has a different
[1:45:17] Speaker 4: credence than the players do. We don't owe other players
[1:45:22] Speaker 4: anything but that line when we walk and we shake
[1:45:25] Speaker 4: everybody's hand.
[1:45:25] Speaker 2: We say, good, good, good game, good game, good game,
[1:45:27] Speaker 2: good game.
[1:45:28] Speaker 4: All of that. That ain't no pound, all hugs and
[1:45:30] Speaker 4: all that. Everybody has a decision to do that. But
[1:45:33] Speaker 4: if I just want to... and get up out of here,
[1:45:36] Speaker 4: or if I just want to do what LeBron do
[1:45:37] Speaker 4: and go straight to the locker room, hey, I know y'all.
[1:45:40] Speaker 4: I've been playing y'all all season long. Hey, man, fuck that.
[1:45:43] Speaker 4: Y'all beat us, and I don't want to see none
[1:45:45] Speaker 4: of y'all faces.
[1:45:46] Speaker 2: Watch out.
[1:45:47] Speaker 4: That's not being a sore loser. That's taking the loss personal.
[1:45:51] Speaker 4: I'm taking it personal. So if I see y'all backstage,
[1:45:55] Speaker 4: and it's like, yo, it's love.
[1:45:58] Speaker 2: It's just not in.
[1:45:59] Speaker 4: The middle of the game where everyone's watching and seeing
[1:46:03] Speaker 4: that I got the ultimate respect for losing. That's not
[1:46:07] Speaker 4: being a competitor. That's not saying I want to be
[1:46:10] Speaker 4: a champion one day. That's being like, you know what?
[1:46:14] Speaker 4: If we punch you in the mouth soon enough, you'll
[1:46:16] Speaker 4: come over here and say, hey, man, I know y'all
[1:46:18] Speaker 4: punched me in my mouth, but I'll see y'all at
[1:46:20] Speaker 4: dinner later.
[1:46:21] Speaker 2: But didn't, hey, Josiah, did both coaches take out both
[1:46:24] Speaker 2: their starters? No, they were still in the game. San
[1:46:28] Speaker 2: Antonio guys were still on the bench and still in
[1:46:30] Speaker 2: the game. It was eight minutes to go. And they
[1:46:33] Speaker 2: were getting blew out, right?
[1:46:35] Speaker 8: And then the Minnesota Timberwolves coach threw in the white flag.
[1:46:39] Speaker 2: He was like, yo, that's it. Y'all not going back
[1:46:40] Speaker 2: no matter what.
[1:46:41] Speaker 4: It's over.
[1:46:41] Speaker 3: Cool.
[1:46:41] Speaker 8: So instead of him doing it after the game, I'm
[1:46:44] Speaker 8: just going to get this out the way now and
[1:46:45] Speaker 8: then I'm out?
[1:46:46] Speaker 4: Nah, it ain't no after. Think about the coach. If
[1:46:49] Speaker 4: you're the coach and you're watching your play. What I'm saying,
[1:46:51] Speaker 4: your coach, he throws in the white flag.
[1:46:53] Speaker 2: Listen, it don't matter. Y'all not getting back in. Listen, boom, boom, boom.
[1:46:56] Speaker 2: All right. It's over.
[1:46:58] Speaker 4: But you're not going to get up from your bench
[1:47:00] Speaker 4: and walk all.
[1:47:01] Speaker 2: The way down.
[1:47:01] Speaker 4: As a coach, if I see my player get up
[1:47:04] Speaker 4: and go down there and then you're like, what is
[1:47:06] Speaker 4: he doing?
[1:47:07] Speaker 2: And then he's dapping everybody up.
[1:47:09] Speaker 4: When he come back over here, I'm calling another timeout.
[1:47:13] Speaker 2: I'm calling another timeout. What the fuck was that, bro?
[1:47:17] Speaker 2: What is you doing?
[1:47:18] Speaker 4: Hey, man, I mean, they beat our ass.
[1:47:20] Speaker 2: I don't want to hear none of that young, immature.
[1:47:23] Speaker 2: Who over there going to tell him that? Yeah, that
[1:47:25] Speaker 2: was a quick one. It don't matter.
[1:47:27] Speaker 4: I'm not saying somebody's going to tell him that.
[1:47:29] Speaker 2: I'm not saying nobody's going to tell him.
[1:47:30] Speaker 4: I'm saying if I'm the coach, I'm going to tell him.
[1:47:35] Speaker 4: I'm saying time out.
[1:47:37] Speaker 2: I don't care.
[1:47:38] Speaker 4: He's going to get the message that this ain't cool.
[1:47:40] Speaker 2: It ain't no message.
[1:47:41] Speaker 4: The message is that we suck and I'm out here
[1:47:43] Speaker 4: playing with two bad knees. The message is you're being
[1:47:45] Speaker 4: a punk. The message is you're being a punk.
[1:47:48] Speaker 2: I don't care.
[1:47:49] Speaker 4: You should have set your ass down.
[1:47:50] Speaker 2: If you're going to use your knees as an excuse.
[1:47:52] Speaker 2: Use your knees as an excuse. Don't bring your ass
[1:47:54] Speaker 2: out here. The fuck you playing for? So if you
[1:47:56] Speaker 2: playing with two bad knees, take the ice, take.
[1:47:59] Speaker 4: Your ass in the back and get in the fucking
[1:48:01] Speaker 4: ice tub.
[1:48:02] Speaker 2: You don't leave them alone. And your ass being the coach.
[1:48:05] Speaker 4: They just robbed us. They just robbed us for all
[1:48:08] Speaker 4: our jewelry. And you like, hey, my nigga, hey, keep
[1:48:11] Speaker 4: that jewelry, though. I mean, you had good guns.
[1:48:14] Speaker 2: Fuck out of here, man. Come on, man. I'm on
[1:48:16] Speaker 2: two bad knees. We ain't got our best players.
[1:48:19] Speaker 4: If that's how Chris talking to him, Chris, you can
[1:48:21] Speaker 4: get your ass up out of here. Because, first of all,
[1:48:23] Speaker 4: I've been holding down this fucking organization.
[1:48:25] Speaker 2: Since I got here.
[1:48:26] Speaker 4: You just went down there and pulled your skirt down, bro.
[1:48:29] Speaker 4: You just went down there and pulled your skirt.
[1:48:31] Speaker 2: Down, bro.
[1:48:32] Speaker 4: My coach is talking about it. My coach did. The
[1:48:34] Speaker 4: coach don't play. The coach don't play on the court.
[1:48:36] Speaker 4: He threw the white flag. The coach don't play on
[1:48:39] Speaker 4: the court. The coach throwing the white flag. The players play.
[1:48:43] Speaker 4: We're down 30. We're down 30. I can't get back in. No,
[1:48:46] Speaker 4: you can't because you ain't do shit when you was in.
[1:48:48] Speaker 2: Oh, my God. You didn't do shit when you was
[1:48:50] Speaker 2: in the game. That's why we got the first round.
[1:48:51] Speaker 2: Now sit your ass out. We got the first round
[1:48:53] Speaker 2: because of me on two bad knees. We weren't even
[1:48:54] Speaker 2: supposed to do that. But now we ain't doing.
[1:48:57] Speaker 4: Why we not in the next round cuz of you
[1:48:58] Speaker 4: then why are we not in the next round? You
[1:49:02] Speaker 4: know you want the mother fucker ready you take the
[1:49:05] Speaker 4: criticism or the hands it's oh ass down and wait
[1:49:07] Speaker 4: till this shit is zero Then you go say what's
[1:49:10] Speaker 4: up there all them niggas like you want to a
[1:49:11] Speaker 4: real deal there man.
[1:49:13] Speaker 2: Watch out.
[1:49:14] Speaker 4: That's all the shit.
[1:49:14] Speaker 8: Quit on this team against the Lakers right remember Kobe
[1:49:17] Speaker 8: quit on this thing He.
[1:49:18] Speaker 4: Still shook hands was that we still shook hands with
[1:49:20] Speaker 4: that respect for the game.
[1:49:21] Speaker 2: He still shook hands. Oh Steel shook hands. I can't
[1:49:24] Speaker 2: play with these guys. Remember when LeBron.
[1:49:26] Speaker 4: Quit on his team? Was that sportsmanship?
[1:49:28] Speaker 2: Remember when LeBron did it? Remember three times when he
[1:49:32] Speaker 2: left out?
[1:49:33] Speaker 4: Yeah, didn't shake nobody's hand. Went to the locker room
[1:49:36] Speaker 4: with three minutes left. Yeah, we seen it. We're not
[1:49:39] Speaker 4: going to say Kobe. We're going to say everybody. Everybody
[1:49:42] Speaker 4: done did it. Yeah, he did it three times. So
[1:49:45] Speaker 4: when the motherfuckers start doing it and they think that
[1:49:48] Speaker 4: it's cool, it ain't cool.
[1:49:50] Speaker 2: It ain't cool.
[1:49:51] Speaker 4: It ain't cool.
[1:49:52] Speaker 2: Mama mentality. It ain't cool. Come on, man.
[1:49:54] Speaker 4: It ain't cool.
[1:49:55] Speaker 1: Facilitator, Mr. B.
[1:49:56] Speaker 4: It ain't cool.
[1:49:57] Speaker 2: He quit on his team.
[1:49:58] Speaker 4: It ain't cool. We went back and won two more, though.
[1:50:01] Speaker 4: Quit that. Now, quit that.
[1:50:05] Speaker 2: Thank you. Next. Quote on your team. Next. I can't
[1:50:09] Speaker 2: play with these guys. Next. Give me some guys I
[1:50:12] Speaker 2: can play with. Next. I'll shake you niggas' hands, but
[1:50:14] Speaker 2: I ain't going over there to the... I ain't going
[1:50:16] Speaker 2: down there to shake they hands.
[1:50:17] Speaker 1: So he wanted to improve his roster.
[1:50:19] Speaker 4: Don't matter.
[1:50:19] Speaker 2: I got two in a row. Give me some guys
[1:50:21] Speaker 2: I can play with. After that.
[1:50:22] Speaker 1: Wouldn't apply. He wanted to improve his.
[1:50:24] Speaker 2: Watch out.
[1:50:24] Speaker 4: Y'all watch out.
[1:50:26] Speaker 2: You ain't me either. So don't even start saying you me.
[1:50:29] Speaker 2: You not me. Legit.
[1:50:34] Speaker 1: As they like to say.
[1:50:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, no. You just don't do that. All right, well,
[1:50:38] Speaker 2: let's try. He'll be back. It's Ant-Man. He'll be back.
[1:50:40] Speaker 1: It is Ant-Man.
[1:50:41] Speaker 4: He'll get healthy.
[1:50:44] Speaker 1: We will see if that's in Minnesota or elsewhere. But
[1:50:46] Speaker 1: let's move on to our last topic of the day.
[1:50:48] Speaker 1: So we talked about SGA winning his second straight MVP yesterday.
[1:50:52] Speaker 1: But there is a difference in being the most valuable
[1:50:54] Speaker 1: player and the best player in this league. Obviously, the
[1:50:57] Speaker 1: Spurs came in and spoiled SGA's MVP trophy presentation night
[1:51:01] Speaker 1: before game one. Wimby became the youngest player in league
[1:51:04] Speaker 1: history with a 40.20 rebound game. Wimby was asked if
[1:51:07] Speaker 1: he thinks he's the best player in the world right now,
[1:51:10] Speaker 1: had this response.
[1:51:12] Speaker 9: Do I feel like it right now? I feel tired.
[1:51:15] Speaker 9: But it's not a question I'm wondering right now. We'll see,
[1:51:21] Speaker 9: you know. The world is 8 billion people, so it's
[1:51:25] Speaker 9: 8 billion opinions.
[1:51:29] Speaker 2: Very composed, very measured.
[1:51:30] Speaker 1: Interesting. So we've had this conversation previously. I think we
[1:51:34] Speaker 1: did last year after SGA won the MVP. Some felt
[1:51:37] Speaker 1: that Yoke is still the best player in the world
[1:51:40] Speaker 1: even after that. Now SGA has gone back-to-back with MVPs,
[1:51:44] Speaker 1: but the Thunder did get smacked up over time against Wimby.
[1:51:47] Speaker 1: Third in MVP voting. Had the Best defensive season in
[1:51:52] Speaker 1: NBA history, according to the Square Media. The only unanimous
[1:51:55] Speaker 1: defensive player of the year in NBA history. But Skip,
[1:51:58] Speaker 1: when you look around, in your opinion, who is the
[1:52:00] Speaker 1: best player in the league right now?
[1:52:06] Speaker 7: I think tonight you'll see that Shea Gilgis-Alexander is the
[1:52:11] Speaker 7: best player in the world. And he has won back-to-back
[1:52:15] Speaker 7: MVPs legitimately, decisively, for reasons... that I've.
[1:52:20] Speaker 3: Detailed on the show.
[1:52:22] Speaker 7: And I know most people are prisoners of Wimby's incredible
[1:52:27] Speaker 7: moment the other night when he made a 30-foot three-point
[1:52:31] Speaker 7: shot to tie the game. And as a Thunder supporter
[1:52:37] Speaker 7: and believer, I believe they're going to win this in
[1:52:40] Speaker 7: seven games, and I believe they'll win this tonight, and
[1:52:43] Speaker 7: I believe they will figure some ways to keep him
[1:52:47] Speaker 7: to a lower roar than he roared the other night,
[1:52:51] Speaker 7: and he is on his way to becoming all-time great.
[1:52:54] Speaker 7: Maybe he will become the greatest player ever in the
[1:52:59] Speaker 7: history of this game at some point, but I don't
[1:53:01] Speaker 7: think he's there yet, and I think you'll see that tonight, and.
[1:53:06] Speaker 3: SGA is there.
[1:53:08] Speaker 7: He is the best player, the best leader, the best
[1:53:13] Speaker 7: clutch player, and a very good defender, in and of
[1:53:19] Speaker 7: his own right. And he did have five steals the
[1:53:21] Speaker 7: other night. And he did score 12 in the fourth
[1:53:25] Speaker 7: quarter when it was time. And he did hit the
[1:53:28] Speaker 7: shot that did tie the game and send it to overtime.
[1:53:31] Speaker 7: And I'm just happy that we're doing this question. And
[1:53:35] Speaker 7: I'm happy that the world has decided that Victor Wimbinyama
[1:53:39] Speaker 7: is the greatest player in the world because the Thunder
[1:53:42] Speaker 7: needed to hear this for 48 hours. And Chet Holmgren
[1:53:47] Speaker 7: needed to hear this for 48 hours and he needed
[1:53:49] Speaker 7: to hear Kenyon say it's time to put your big
[1:53:53] Speaker 7: boy pants on it's time to grow up and be
[1:53:56] Speaker 7: a man and whatever you have to give you've got
[1:53:59] Speaker 7: to give it because he did average 17 and 9
[1:54:02] Speaker 7: did Chet Holmgren and he did make the all-star team
[1:54:05] Speaker 7: he made the all-star team that's that's pretty great for
[1:54:09] Speaker 7: a kid his age and now you you you need
[1:54:15] Speaker 7: to say, I want him. I want to take him.
[1:54:18] Speaker 7: Maybe I'll foul out in the first half, but I
[1:54:20] Speaker 7: want to take him and he's going to take my
[1:54:23] Speaker 7: best shots. And I saw Chet maybe by accident have
[1:54:26] Speaker 7: to take him late in that game three different times.
[1:54:30] Speaker 7: And he made him work. He bothered Wimby as much
[1:54:35] Speaker 7: as you can bother that seven foot six inch man
[1:54:38] Speaker 7: or whatever he is. And And Chet is 7 feet tall,
[1:54:43] Speaker 7: might be 7'1. And, you know, he can jump a little.
[1:54:46] Speaker 7: He can jump a little. He's got a little spring
[1:54:49] Speaker 7: to him. And because of that, I think he can
[1:54:53] Speaker 7: bother Victor Wiminyama, and I think he will tonight. And
[1:54:57] Speaker 7: I think Shea Gildress Alexander will show up tonight in
[1:55:03] Speaker 7: ways he hasn't shown up against San Antonio all year long.
[1:55:06] Speaker 7: This is, to me, do or die for the home team.
[1:55:10] Speaker 7: And I believe the home team will do. That's what
[1:55:14] Speaker 7: I believe. And I believe by tomorrow, the world won't
[1:55:19] Speaker 7: be saying Victor Wiminyama is by far the greatest player
[1:55:23] Speaker 7: in the world.
[1:55:24] Speaker 3: That's what I believe.
[1:55:27] Speaker 1: Let's shift over to you, Mr. B. Tough crowd golf,
[1:55:33] Speaker 1: country club, card carrying member. In your expert opinion, who
[1:55:38] Speaker 1: is the best player in the league At this very moment?
[1:55:41] Speaker 2: Right now, I would have to say Wimby.
[1:55:44] Speaker 8: He's been taking his game to the next level since
[1:55:47] Speaker 8: the playoffs started. You know, with everything going on, even
[1:55:52] Speaker 8: from last year, not making the playoffs to this being
[1:55:54] Speaker 8: your first year in the playoffs, you are definitely having
[1:55:57] Speaker 8: a run. But also, man, that man over there in
[1:56:00] Speaker 8: New York, Jalen Brunson, he's been doing his thing also.
[1:56:05] Speaker 8: You know, they've been going through the playoffs too, and
[1:56:07] Speaker 8: right now he's playing like one of the best Knicks ever.
[1:56:10] Speaker 8: players ever to put on that jersey. I know it's
[1:56:12] Speaker 8: too early, but he's playing like it right now. But no,
[1:56:16] Speaker 8: it's between him and Wimby. I know he got one
[1:56:20] Speaker 8: game against SGA on his MVP night, but this is
[1:56:22] Speaker 8: going to be a long series.
[1:56:25] Speaker 2: Right now, it's either those two to me.
[1:56:28] Speaker 1: Kane, let's shift over to this side. I know you're
[1:56:29] Speaker 1: a big Yonkage fan.
[1:56:30] Speaker 2: I was going to ask, so we're saying this of
[1:56:33] Speaker 2: the guys that still playing or? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:56:36] Speaker 1: I'm saying at this very moment, who's the best basketball player?
[1:56:39] Speaker 2: In the National Basketball Association, not just still playing. Let
[1:56:42] Speaker 2: alone the world. Oh, you know, I'm not going to deviate.
[1:56:44] Speaker 2: I'm saying Wimby is, she's doing his thing. There's some
[1:56:47] Speaker 2: dogs in the league, of course, but what Nikola is doing,
[1:56:51] Speaker 2: I'm not going to ignore. Um, I yell it from
[1:56:54] Speaker 2: the rooftop. Um, the guys are doing things that we've
[1:56:59] Speaker 2: never seen in history. Um, not being as athletic as
[1:57:06] Speaker 2: most and not doing it this way. But last five,
[1:57:12] Speaker 2: six years, either one or two in MVP voting every year,
[1:57:17] Speaker 2: I'm going to go with that guy. Production and numbers
[1:57:23] Speaker 2: and things are hard to ignore. The efficiency is hard
[1:57:27] Speaker 2: to ignore. Makes his teammates better. It's hard to ignore.
[1:57:33] Speaker 2: leading the league in assists the last two years. So, yeah,
[1:57:37] Speaker 2: I'm going to go with that guy. Big fella.
[1:57:42] Speaker 1: Sean, let's move on to yourself.
[1:57:43] Speaker 2: But hold on one second, Sean, before you go. Skip,
[1:57:46] Speaker 2: my memory serves me. I used to listen to you
[1:57:51] Speaker 2: be on the show a lot, and I could vividly
[1:57:54] Speaker 2: hear you saying, my Spurs, my Spurs this, my Spurs that,
[1:57:58] Speaker 2: my Spurs, my Spurs, my Spurs. It was always my Spurs.
[1:58:02] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:58:02] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[1:58:03] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[1:58:03] Speaker 2: So when did Oklahoma City become last year when they
[1:58:07] Speaker 2: won it? No. Two years. only been in Oklahoma City
[1:58:11] Speaker 2: for a handful of years.
[1:58:13] Speaker 3: Yeah. So born and raised in Oklahoma City.
[1:58:16] Speaker 2: I heard you spent your first 18 years there. But
[1:58:20] Speaker 2: let me ask you a question. Maybe I don't know
[1:58:22] Speaker 2: this or not, but when your first 18 years of
[1:58:25] Speaker 2: your life, did the Oklahoma, did they have a basketball team? Nope.
[1:58:29] Speaker 2: The closest thing to y'all was maybe the Sooners, right? Definitely. Okay,
[1:58:33] Speaker 2: all right.
[1:58:33] Speaker 7: So then when I went to Dallas, Texas to be
[1:58:36] Speaker 7: the columnist there when I was 25 years of age
[1:58:39] Speaker 7: in the Dallas Morning News, maybe you read.
[1:58:40] Speaker 3: It once upon a time.
[1:58:41] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[1:58:42] Speaker 2: Probably so.
[1:58:44] Speaker 3: There was no basketball team.
[1:58:46] Speaker 2: Okay.
[1:58:46] Speaker 3: It was pre-Mavericks.
[1:58:48] Speaker 2: Gotcha.
[1:58:49] Speaker 7: And so for my basketball fix, I would have to
[1:58:53] Speaker 7: go to San Antonio and watch one of the greatest
[1:58:55] Speaker 7: players I ever watched play.
[1:58:57] Speaker 3: George Gervin, who was the Iceman. It's not Caleb Williams,
[1:59:00] Speaker 3: it was George Gervin.
[1:59:02] Speaker 1: There are several Icemen nowadays.
[1:59:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, there are lots of Icemen.
[1:59:07] Speaker 7: That was the one and only original to me. And
[1:59:12] Speaker 7: I became a Spurs fan at that point, but really
[1:59:15] Speaker 7: became a Spurs fan when they broke through in 99
[1:59:19] Speaker 7: and won in that strike year with Tim Duncan. And
[1:59:22] Speaker 7: I loved Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili. I was never a
[1:59:29] Speaker 7: Popovich fan, but I loved those three. And once LeBron
[1:59:33] Speaker 7: came along, the arch rival for LeBron, obviously, as they
[1:59:37] Speaker 7: began to clash, became the San Antonio Spurs. So all
[1:59:42] Speaker 7: my years on first take, I.
[1:59:44] Speaker 3: Was a Spurs supporter.
[1:59:45] Speaker 2: I remember, yeah, vividly.
[1:59:47] Speaker 7: And then when the thunder rose up in 2012, I've
[1:59:50] Speaker 7: said this a thousand times on the air, that team
[1:59:54] Speaker 7: of Durant, Westbrook, and Harden I clashed with all of
[1:59:58] Speaker 7: them repeatedly. They didn't like me, and I slowly but
[2:00:02] Speaker 7: surely did not like them. And I found them as
[2:00:05] Speaker 7: a threesome unlovable and unembraceable. And I took a lot
[2:00:11] Speaker 7: of crap for it, and I was a wanted man
[2:00:14] Speaker 7: in my hometown of Oklahoma City because of that. So
[2:00:18] Speaker 7: they turned me completely away from the Thunder team. And
[2:00:22] Speaker 7: I think all three have shown in their different ways
[2:00:24] Speaker 7: to be pretty unlikable off the floor. That's just me
[2:00:28] Speaker 7: for all the reasons that we've talked about. And even
[2:00:32] Speaker 7: Durant was all over me for criticizing Westbrook for taking
[2:00:36] Speaker 7: more shots than Kevin Durant took. In that first year
[2:00:39] Speaker 7: of 2012 that they broke through, he would constantly rip
[2:00:43] Speaker 7: me and say, Skip Bayless doesn't know shit about basketball.
[2:00:46] Speaker 7: While I'm defending Kevin... Because he was a much better
[2:00:50] Speaker 7: scorer and shooter to me than Russell Westbrook. That was
[2:00:53] Speaker 7: like blatantly, painfully obvious. So that's what happened. They turned
[2:01:00] Speaker 7: me away from the Thunder. And three years ago, I
[2:01:04] Speaker 7: came back to the Thunder. Because this team right now
[2:01:09] Speaker 7: is lovable to me because it's a T-E-A-M team.
[2:01:14] Speaker 3: They win together. They lose together.
[2:01:19] Speaker 7: They're just fun to watch because they play hard. So
[2:01:25] Speaker 7: I am now, I'm now what I should have been
[2:01:28] Speaker 7: from the start, a Thunder fan.
[2:01:30] Speaker 2: I dig it, all right. I was- There you go.
[2:01:33] Speaker 2: Some of my memory was- We already know who you're
[2:01:40] Speaker 2: going to pick for the best player in the league.
[2:01:41] Speaker 3: How did he become a Spurs fan?
[2:01:43] Speaker 2: That's just Wimby. Wimby. Just Wimby. That's it. Wamba Wamba.
[2:01:48] Speaker 2: He is Wimby and we know he is going to
[2:01:50] Speaker 2: pick Wimby. Wimby is it, that, and some.
[2:01:55] Speaker 4: I think we need to get back to what the
[2:01:57] Speaker 4: fans and the Hooper community knows to be true. If
[2:02:04] Speaker 4: I was to put in To chat GPT, stats from SGA,
[2:02:10] Speaker 4: stats from Joker, stats from Wimby, what would it spit
[2:02:13] Speaker 4: back out to me when I asked it who's the
[2:02:15] Speaker 4: best player?
[2:02:16] Speaker 3: I thought you were talking Hoopers, not chat GBT.
[2:02:18] Speaker 2: Just let me get to it. Can I get to it?
[2:02:21] Speaker 2: I'll let y'all cook. I'll let you cook.
[2:02:23] Speaker 4: It would spit back out what? Joker probably is the
[2:02:26] Speaker 4: best or SGA because of da-da-da-da. But chat GBT don't
[2:02:31] Speaker 4: got no eyes. It can't watch the game. And this
[2:02:36] Speaker 4: is what we've done in the basketball community. We've gone
[2:02:40] Speaker 4: off metrics of data. Everyone gets mad at the nerves
[2:02:43] Speaker 4: for bringing analytics in because it goes away from what
[2:02:46] Speaker 4: we see to be true. Somebody tells me that Kobe
[2:02:50] Speaker 4: Bryant's number nine all time and trying to tell me
[2:02:53] Speaker 4: that I didn't see some shit that I seen. Then
[2:02:57] Speaker 4: you're trying to tell me that I'm not watching Victor Wendignana.
[2:03:02] Speaker 2: What you said, he.
[2:03:03] Speaker 4: Could go down as the greatest basketball player. How are
[2:03:06] Speaker 4: you giving him this much potential at 22? But then
[2:03:09] Speaker 4: I say he's the best player on the floor right now.
[2:03:13] Speaker 4: You would bring up all these stats about why he's not.
[2:03:17] Speaker 4: And I would say, but what am I watching? I
[2:03:18] Speaker 4: just watched him do 41 and 24. And I watched
[2:03:22] Speaker 4: him control the whole game on the defensive side and
[2:03:28] Speaker 4: the offensive side.
[2:03:30] Speaker 2: He did it all year.
[2:03:32] Speaker 4: Unanimous defensive player of the year at 22 years old
[2:03:37] Speaker 4: first time ever debut never been to the playoffs before
[2:03:42] Speaker 4: debut against the oklahoma city thunder i went four and
[2:03:47] Speaker 4: one all season against whoop they ass i'm gonna whoop
[2:03:51] Speaker 4: your ass again game one record we ain't seen shit
[2:03:56] Speaker 4: like this since will hmm But somehow, someway, they want
[2:04:01] Speaker 4: to trick the fans and the audience into believing that
[2:04:04] Speaker 4: the numbers are more important than what you actually seeing
[2:04:07] Speaker 4: in real time. If you threw together a collage of
[2:04:12] Speaker 4: highlights of Victor Wimbignone in comparison to everybody else, I
[2:04:16] Speaker 4: can guarantee.
[2:04:17] Speaker 2: You they would throw the other highlights away. This guy.
[2:04:21] Speaker 2: Those are highlights. This guy is one of a kind.
[2:04:28] Speaker 4: Blocking shots, running down, shooting from the logo off one foot.
[2:04:33] Speaker 4: Why are you doing that, Victor?
[2:04:35] Speaker 2: Why are you doing that? That's weird. That's weird. Did
[2:04:39] Speaker 2: you block somebody's shot twice like Kenya Martin used to do?
[2:04:44] Speaker 7: So I dare you once again, pick a sweep. Tell
[2:04:48] Speaker 7: me the Spurs are going to sweep.
[2:04:51] Speaker 1: This was not in the rundown, but it always comes
[2:04:53] Speaker 1: back to this.
[2:04:53] Speaker 4: Because if they don't sweep, I guess I'm wrong, right?
[2:04:58] Speaker 2: You win one game, you feel good.
[2:05:00] Speaker 4: I like seven. I like to take you and stretch.
[2:05:06] Speaker 2: Stretch your arms.
[2:05:07] Speaker 3: I think you're going to get stretched.
[2:05:08] Speaker 1: Mr.
[2:05:09] Speaker 4: Elastic, stretch that motherfucker and let you see every single
[2:05:13] Speaker 4: game about why I'm the motherfucking MVP. You're going to
[2:05:16] Speaker 4: see every game.
[2:05:18] Speaker 3: Why? Well, then I'm going to see three losses, right?
[2:05:21] Speaker 2: No. What's the record now?
[2:05:23] Speaker 4: Five and one?
[2:05:26] Speaker 1: Winning on the postseason. Well, speaking of Spurs Thunder, let's
[2:05:31] Speaker 1: wrap up today with our playoff picks powered by Underdogs
[2:05:34] Speaker 1: Prediction Markets. So let's take a look at the updated
[2:05:36] Speaker 1: standings if we can.
[2:05:39] Speaker 4: Is that another dub?
[2:05:40] Speaker 1: I think everybody. I'm with Nix if I'm not mistaken.
[2:05:43] Speaker 4: He's going up, don't he?
[2:05:45] Speaker 2: Yeah, we both picked the same teams. The whole couch,
[2:05:47] Speaker 2: I think, was it. At a New York state of mind.
[2:05:51] Speaker 2: You picked San Antonio, but the other game, everybody picked
[2:05:54] Speaker 2: the Knicks.
[2:05:55] Speaker 1: Yesterday on this very cut? Yes, we all picked the Knicks.
[2:05:58] Speaker 2: San Antonio again, right? We all picked the Knicks.
[2:06:02] Speaker 1: Game two of the Western Conference Finals tonight in OKC.
[2:06:05] Speaker 1: Thunder dropped game one of the Spurs in double overtime
[2:06:08] Speaker 1: behind a Wimby Masterclass. As we have already talked about,
[2:06:12] Speaker 1: Thunder still sizable favorites in game two to tie the
[2:06:15] Speaker 1: series up. And one game apiece. OKC, 69% chance to
[2:06:19] Speaker 1: win game two. Spurs, 33% chance to take a commanding
[2:06:23] Speaker 1: 2-0 lead back to San Antonio. So, Sean, we will
[2:06:28] Speaker 1: start with you. Who wins game two of the Western
[2:06:29] Speaker 1: Conference Finals?
[2:06:31] Speaker 2: Um....
[2:06:34] Speaker 4: Hmm. Going to go 2-0.
[2:06:39] Speaker 2: Spurs.
[2:06:41] Speaker 1: You have taken the San Antonio Spurs to take a
[2:06:43] Speaker 1: 2-0 series lead against the defending champion, Oklahoma City Thunder.
[2:06:47] Speaker 3: But you're sticking with seven?
[2:06:50] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[2:06:50] Speaker 4: If you shoot high, you don't have to shoot low.
[2:06:53] Speaker 2: All right?
[2:06:54] Speaker 4: You shoot high, and then if we come up and
[2:06:56] Speaker 4: we do sweep you, it's more of a celebration.
[2:07:00] Speaker 1: Kenny, let's move on to you. Who are you taking
[2:07:02] Speaker 1: tonight game two of the Western Conference Finals? This could
[2:07:07] Speaker 1: help you close the gap on shot.
[2:07:11] Speaker 4: Close the gap on shot. That's what it sounds like.
[2:07:14] Speaker 4: They're always trying to close the gap on me.
[2:07:16] Speaker 2: I'm still in the first place.
[2:07:17] Speaker 4: Or improve your.
[2:07:22] Speaker 4: Shit.
[2:07:25] Speaker 1: Increase the gap.
[2:07:25] Speaker 2: Excuse me. I'm going to go Spurs on the road, man.
[2:07:29] Speaker 4: So we have two Spurs. He can't lose if he
[2:07:32] Speaker 4: agrees with me.
[2:07:32] Speaker 2: No, he can't lose if he agrees with me. That's
[2:07:35] Speaker 2: a very good strategy. If he can't lose, if we
[2:07:38] Speaker 2: both lose, we both lose.
[2:07:39] Speaker 4: He's going to steal more.
[2:07:40] Speaker 2: Hold on. It don't matter. I'm going to go with it. Yeah,
[2:07:43] Speaker 2: because when he improves, he's the best player on the floor, man.
[2:07:45] Speaker 2: So we're... Until something changes, I'm going to go with
[2:07:48] Speaker 2: the Spurs. Skip, let's move to this side. You want
[2:07:51] Speaker 2: to go? It's only one choice for Skip. Spurs 5-1.
[2:07:55] Speaker 2: I mean, I'm the Spurs. I ain't changing that until they...
[2:08:00] Speaker 2: And you're getting Fox back? Good. You know what? I'm
[2:08:04] Speaker 2: going to go OKC. I'm going to go OKC. I'm
[2:08:08] Speaker 2: going to go OKC tonight. Why?
[2:08:11] Speaker 8: I think they tied up 1-1. I mean, SJ is
[2:08:14] Speaker 8: still who he is. When he gets boomed on, he
[2:08:17] Speaker 8: does come back. And he always answers. He's always been
[2:08:20] Speaker 8: a guy that's talked about consistency and being able to
[2:08:22] Speaker 8: go back to the table and figure things out. So
[2:08:26] Speaker 8: this guy has seen everything. And I think tonight he'll
[2:08:29] Speaker 8: be able to come back and show who he is.
[2:08:31] Speaker 4: And Chet.
[2:08:31] Speaker 2: I think Chet is going to get the message. Chet Hologren.
[2:08:34] Speaker 2: So who got boomed on? Oh, when OKC was getting
[2:08:37] Speaker 2: boomed on all year. When it was 5-1.
[2:08:38] Speaker 4: You said SGA got boomed on, right? Yeah, yeah. The boom.
[2:08:42] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[2:08:43] Speaker 4: I'll just make sure you say it with your chest
[2:08:44] Speaker 4: a little bit.
[2:08:45] Speaker 2: Say boom, boom.
[2:08:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, I said boom.
[2:08:46] Speaker 2: Bada boom, bada bing. There was a boom what response.
[2:08:49] Speaker 4: There was a boom what.
[2:08:51] Speaker 2: There was a boom what.
[2:08:53] Speaker 1: If they boomed. I'm just here to deliver once again
[2:08:55] Speaker 1: by San Antonio.
[2:08:56] Speaker 2: I'm just here to talk basketball. I've never heard the album,
[2:09:00] Speaker 2: so I don't know. Game two. Oh, it's cold. Don't
[2:09:04] Speaker 2: push play.
[2:09:05] Speaker 4: It's cold.
[2:09:06] Speaker 2: It's cold. It's icy. I got right back to that wallet.
[2:09:11] Speaker 7: So a year ago, the Thunder lost game one at
[2:09:14] Speaker 7: home to Joker. And they won the series in seven games.
[2:09:20] Speaker 7: And a year ago, they lost game one at home
[2:09:23] Speaker 7: at the NBA Finals to Halliburton on a great last-second shot.
[2:09:29] Speaker 7: And they won the finals in seven games. And I
[2:09:35] Speaker 7: want to remind you that in last year's finals, pivotal
[2:09:39] Speaker 7: game five, Jalen Williams, who did make the All-Star team
[2:09:44] Speaker 7: a year ago, scored 40 points.
[2:09:47] Speaker 3: It was at home.
[2:09:49] Speaker 7: And I believe Jalen Williams will come up huge tonight.
[2:09:53] Speaker 7: I think he's ready to be back. He needed one
[2:09:56] Speaker 7: game to get his legs underneath him. He scored 26
[2:10:00] Speaker 7: and he took 25 shots, two more than SGA took.
[2:10:04] Speaker 7: Made 11 of 25. So I think he's ready for
[2:10:07] Speaker 7: a bigger game than 26. And they need a bigger
[2:10:11] Speaker 7: game from him because the onus and focus will obviously
[2:10:16] Speaker 7: be on the two-time MVP. I do think Chet will
[2:10:21] Speaker 7: play much bigger than he has. And I do think
[2:10:25] Speaker 7: that the Thunder will do what they always do. They're
[2:10:28] Speaker 7: going to win this game too. And they're going to
[2:10:30] Speaker 7: win this series in seven games.
[2:10:34] Speaker 3: I'm sticking with that.
[2:10:36] Speaker 2: All right.
[2:10:38] Speaker 1: We got our picks up for this evening. We will
[2:10:41] Speaker 1: see what happens. Shout out to everybody in the chat.
[2:10:43] Speaker 1: Shout out to everybody on this couch. As always, shout
[2:10:46] Speaker 1: out to our crew, Punctual Diligent. Always make sure the
[2:10:50] Speaker 1: fridge is sufficiently stocked with an assortment of fine beverages.
[2:10:53] Speaker 1: For that, you are appreciated. But this has been another
[2:10:56] Speaker 1: episode of Gil's Arena presented by Underdog.
[2:10:59] Speaker 2: We'll see y'all tomorrow.
