Gil's Arena Debates If Paul George's Injury COOKS The Philadelphia 76ers as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew react to another injury for PG early into his 76ers Career and debate if this run of bad news following Joel Embiid, Paul George, Tyrese Maxey and the rest of the 76ers squad is enough to derail their season just 15 games in. Next, they break down the New York Knicks finding their stride as of late as Jalen Brunson, Karl Anthony Towns & the Knicks have ripped off 4 straight wins including last night over the Phoenix Suns, sparking a debate on if the Knicks are back in the conversation at the top of the Eastern Conference & if the Suns need to panic if they can't win without Kevin Durant. Finally, they react to The Houston Rockets reportedly turning away the thought of trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo and discuss if the Greek Freak's trade value is actually lower than we think before reacting to LeBron James taking a break from social media after a rise of negativity has taken over NBA Media. [0:00] Speaker 1: Yeah. Welcome back to Gil's Arena presented by Underdog. Whoa, whoa!
[0:07] Speaker 2: We appreciate everybody's patience in the chat. They say we
[0:09] Speaker 2: on that Joel and Bea time. We not late. Y'all
[0:13] Speaker 2: just early.
[0:14] Speaker 1: All right? And we appreciate y'all being here with us. Okay, Gil.
[0:17] Speaker 3: All right, all right. That's special.
[0:20] Speaker 2: Adidas. The Adidas brownie. Loyal to your soil.
[0:26] Speaker 1: Yes, sir. And the back says what? Greatest 55th pick
[0:28] Speaker 1: of all time.
[0:29] Speaker 3: Prince?
[0:30] Speaker 4: James Jr.
[0:31] Speaker 3: James Jr.
[0:32] Speaker 4: Why not just put Bronny?
[0:34] Speaker 2: Huh?
[0:34] Speaker 4: Why not put Bronny?
[0:35] Speaker 2: They should do a soccer style like that. Just put
[0:37] Speaker 2: the first name.
[0:38] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[0:39] Speaker 1: James Jr.
[0:39] Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't like James Jr.
[0:41] Speaker 1: Either.
[0:42] Speaker 4: Well, you're wearing a jersey.
[0:45] Speaker 2: I like Bronny better. That custom Adidas.
[0:48] Speaker 3: Me too.
[0:51] Speaker 2: Now, Patty Mills is not the greatest 55th pick of
[0:53] Speaker 2: all time. LeBron James Jr. is based on marketability. Producers
[0:56] Speaker 2: are in my ear right now.
[0:57] Speaker 3: Yep.
[0:58] Speaker 2: But that's neither here nor there. How everybody doing? We
[1:00] Speaker 2: feeling good?
[1:01] Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay.
[1:03] Speaker 4: It's a great day.
[1:04] Speaker 1: Teams on a six-game winning streak? No?
[1:06] Speaker 3: No? Okay.
[1:07] Speaker 1: Just us? Cool.
[1:08] Speaker 3: Just us? Just us? You know what I mean?
[1:10] Speaker 2: You know.
[1:11] Speaker 3: Today is game day.
[1:12] Speaker 4: Really?
[1:13] Speaker 1: Longest winning streak.
[1:14] Speaker 5: Yep.
[1:14] Speaker 4: That's why you're wearing a mask.
[1:16] Speaker 3: Yes, it's game day. We back. We're going to play
[1:19] Speaker 3: San Diego. It don't matter. It don't matter. San Diego wins.
[1:23] Speaker 3: They're getting cooked. San Diego. San Diego wins.
[1:27] Speaker 4: Why are you so quiet?
[1:28] Speaker 3: What?
[1:29] Speaker 4: Why are you so quiet?
[1:30] Speaker 1: His team sucks. Our predictions hold true.
[1:38] Speaker 2: I just soak into Baskin and then Glory.
[1:41] Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm thinking twice about my pick.
[1:43] Speaker 7: Didn't I pick the Knicks with you?
[1:47] Speaker 2: I'm not talking about the Knicks. I'm talking about Dawg Connect.
[1:50] Speaker 3: I'm just talking about that. Westside Connect gang.
[1:52] Speaker 2: The one they didn't want. Now they want him now.
[1:55] Speaker 2: We wanted him. We want all our picks. Now they
[2:00] Speaker 2: want them.
[2:01] Speaker 3: We were rolling.
[2:02] Speaker 1: Visionary.
[2:03] Speaker 2: Ron said that back in April.
[2:04] Speaker 1: This is cute. Now they want them. But this is.
[2:07] Speaker 2: Gil's Arena presented by Underdog. As always, we've got the
[2:09] Speaker 2: legend Gilbert Arenas here with us.
[2:10] Speaker 1: What you rocking, Gil?
[2:13] Speaker 6: What you got on?
[2:14] Speaker 3: Huh?
[2:15] Speaker 1: What you rocking? Oh.
[2:17] Speaker 3: Dame time. The Dame timers. Dame time.
[2:19] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[2:21] Speaker 3: I need Bronny to get the game, the Dame time.
[2:23] Speaker 3: So you got to mix it in.
[2:24] Speaker 4: I thought you was trying to coordinate.
[2:27] Speaker 1: Coordination.
[2:27] Speaker 3: Kind of. but it's still dangerous.
[2:29] Speaker 4: You can coordinate a little bit.
[2:30] Speaker 2: We got four-time WNBA champion of the world, Cheryl Swoops,
[2:34] Speaker 2: back on the couch with us. And the man they
[2:39] Speaker 2: call Cemetery Larry.
[2:41] Speaker 4: There it is.
[2:44] Speaker 1: Rashawn McCants is back with us.
[2:50] Speaker 3: Stop. We worked hard for that.
[2:53] Speaker 2: We practiced for that.
[2:54] Speaker 3: I got to make sure mine is off, too.
[2:55] Speaker 4: It was good.
[2:56] Speaker 2: But we got a lot to get into today. Before
[2:58] Speaker 2: we do, for all those out there, we still have
[3:00] Speaker 2: two viewing options for you. Our traditional version, our vertical
[3:02] Speaker 2: mobile version. Pick whichever one you want to watch. Just
[3:04] Speaker 2: make sure you support your favorite show. Here's what's cracking
[3:07] Speaker 2: in the arena today. The Celtics gave the Cavs their
[3:10] Speaker 2: first loss of the season, snapping their 15-game winning streak.
[3:14] Speaker 2: Does Jason Tatum deserve more love in the MVP conversation?
[3:18] Speaker 3: Oh, God.
[3:19] Speaker 2: The Lakers improved to 7-0 at home for the first
[3:21] Speaker 2: time since the 2001-2002 season. We know how that season ended.
[3:26] Speaker 2: Has 17th overall pick. Dalton Connect solidified himself as a
[3:29] Speaker 2: starter moving forward. I think that 37 piece he just
[3:32] Speaker 2: dropped might have something to say about that. And the
[3:35] Speaker 2: NBA reportedly has plans for a new All-Star game format.
[3:39] Speaker 2: But what can the league do to bring excitement back
[3:41] Speaker 2: to All-Star weekend?
[3:42] Speaker 1: You see it?
[3:44] Speaker 4: Is that Steph's hair you're looking at? Or why are
[3:46] Speaker 4: you making that face?
[3:46] Speaker 3: No, I'm just saying the new format. Another one? another
[3:50] Speaker 3: format right now try to get people to watch girl
[3:52] Speaker 3: support viewership is on the I got a good.
[3:55] Speaker 1: Format on the down down down trendy I got a.
[3:58] Speaker 3: Very great format where's it gonna be this year.
[4:01] Speaker 2: It is gonna be San Francisco Oakland oh.
[4:03] Speaker 3: There's nothing they can do about that one where's it
[4:05] Speaker 3: gonna be.
[4:05] Speaker 2: After that the greatest city on earth Los Angeles okay
[4:08] Speaker 2: where's it gonna be after that no clue Phoenix okay when.
[4:12] Speaker 3: It goes back what is your idea my idea is
[4:14] Speaker 3: if you want people to care take it away from
[4:17] Speaker 3: them oh okay Okay. So what you do is you
[4:22] Speaker 3: take it away for one or two years, and then
[4:25] Speaker 3: everybody starts getting mad because they ain't got shit to do.
[4:28] Speaker 4: Well, how do you choose which year you take it away?
[4:31] Speaker 3: If it was in, like, Indiana last year, they could
[4:34] Speaker 3: have did that.
[4:34] Speaker 4: Yeah, no doubt. No doubt. No doubt.
[4:36] Speaker 3: No doubt.
[4:36] Speaker 1: Utah, they could have did.
[4:37] Speaker 3: They could have did these last two years right here.
[4:40] Speaker 3: And then bring it back in San Francisco. It's been
[4:41] Speaker 3: gone for two years. Everybody's like, oh, shit. All-star weekend.
[4:44] Speaker 3: They care again.
[4:45] Speaker 4: I agree with that.
[4:47] Speaker 2: We're going to talk a lot more about that in
[4:48] Speaker 2: a little bit. But before we do, if you want
[4:50] Speaker 2: to get your bread right, go ahead. Download the Underdog app.
[4:52] Speaker 2: Use promo code GILL. Get up to $ 1, 000 in bonus cash,
[4:55] Speaker 2: plus a special pick-em.
[4:57] Speaker 3: As for tonight, GILL.
[4:58] Speaker 2: Has some picks up in his partner pack on the
[5:00] Speaker 2: underdog app. Jalen Brown betrayed you yesterday.
[5:03] Speaker 1: He did.
[5:04] Speaker 3: I know. Oh, just about. I felt it. I felt it. Oh, man.
[5:09] Speaker 2: There's a 50% profit boost on this entry, so make
[5:12] Speaker 2: sure to take advantage of that. So like we said, Gil,
[5:14] Speaker 2: you went four for five yesterday with only Jalen Brown
[5:16] Speaker 2: coming up short. You had him higher than 29.5 points
[5:19] Speaker 2: rebounded assist, and he got to 28.
[5:21] Speaker 1: Tough loss right there.
[5:23] Speaker 3: As soon as I seen it, it was like a
[5:24] Speaker 3: little blow. I'm like, God, come on, man.
[5:27] Speaker 1: Ooh.
[5:27] Speaker 2: But tonight, you got Giannis, higher 5.5 assists.
[5:30] Speaker 1: That's interesting.
[5:32] Speaker 3: Mm-hmm. Donovan Mitchell, higher 3.5 rebounds. Come on. Come on, dog.
[5:36] Speaker 3: Steph Curry, higher 24.5 points. Playing against this little clone,
[5:39] Speaker 3: he gots to be great.
[5:40] Speaker 2: Okay. And Clint Capella, higher 18.5 points, rebounds, and assists. Oh,
[5:46] Speaker 2: he's playing against Trey?
[5:47] Speaker 3: Okay, I see. Yeah, he got to send a message.
[5:49] Speaker 3: He's playing double. Yeah, he averages a double-double.
[5:52] Speaker 2: He got to send a message.
[5:54] Speaker 3: He averages a double-double. The assist is free.
[5:56] Speaker 2: How does everybody else on the couch feel about girls' picks?
[5:59] Speaker 3: Solid.
[6:01] Speaker 4: Okay.
[6:01] Speaker 2: Except for the last one, Cooley.
[6:03] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[6:03] Speaker 1: What? He don't, he foul out or something. They always
[6:07] Speaker 1: get goofy when you.
[6:08] Speaker 3: I know, right?
[6:09] Speaker 6: That's the only one I was going to question, Mark,
[6:11] Speaker 6: besides the last one.
[6:12] Speaker 7: The other ones, I think, are.
[6:13] Speaker 1: Yeah, solid.
[6:14] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[6:16] Speaker 6: I'm not saying it won't happen.
[6:17] Speaker 4: I just said a question.
[6:18] Speaker 3: The last, what's the name of the game? 29-1, so
[6:20] Speaker 3: that's 30. 18-2, that's 29. The next one's 29. Then 23-4, 24.
[6:26] Speaker 1: Then he had a 60-70, 18-19.
[6:27] Speaker 8: He's still 14-14-1, 24. 29. So he's hit it every time.
[6:39] Speaker 3: Uh-oh. And if he don't hit it today, I just
[6:42] Speaker 3: thought about it.
[6:43] Speaker 1: If he do not hit today.
[6:46] Speaker 3: So if he do not hit today, there's a problem.
[6:49] Speaker 3: That's why I stopped playing.
[6:50] Speaker 1: I stopped playing.
[6:52] Speaker 3: I read the last four games.
[6:53] Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, ain't no way he not going to
[6:55] Speaker 1: hit it.
[6:55] Speaker 3: Ain't no way. Ain't no way.
[6:57] Speaker 2: So we asked the chat, are you riding or fading
[7:00] Speaker 2: Gil's picks?
[7:00] Speaker 3: Not are you riding Gil, are you riding Gil's picks, chat?
[7:04] Speaker 2: 56% are riding. This is the chat. I'm just telling you.
[7:08] Speaker 2: I'm watching in real time. I see all their comments.
[7:11] Speaker 1: Just think about it before you say it.
[7:13] Speaker 2: I'm just making sure they know.
[7:15] Speaker 1: Well.
[7:16] Speaker 3: Got his five assists. Golden State defense. I mean, he
[7:18] Speaker 3: might be passed a little bit.
[7:20] Speaker 4: The five assists is easy.
[7:21] Speaker 1: He tried to get a triple-double. He's going to get
[7:23] Speaker 1: a triple. They need to do something different.
[7:27] Speaker 2: As always, we do Mostly Fans at the end of
[7:29] Speaker 2: every show. If you drop a good question in the

[7:56] Speaker 2: you can't watch the show live, it's on YouTube. We've
[7:58] Speaker 2: got audio versions available on Apple, Spotify, wherever you get
[8:00] Speaker 2: your podcasts. So we've been talking about the decline in
[8:03] Speaker 2: NBA viewership this season. One area that is in desperate
[8:06] Speaker 2: need for improvement is All-Star Weekend, also known as the
[8:09] Speaker 2: Black Super Bowl. The NBA All-Star Game is often criticized
[8:13] Speaker 2: for its lack of competitiveness, specifically on the defensive end.
[8:16] Speaker 2: Last year's All-Star Game was won by the East, who
[8:18] Speaker 2: beat the West by.
[8:19] Speaker 1: A score of 211-186.
[8:22] Speaker 2: In the highest-scoring All-Star game in NBA history, but also
[8:25] Speaker 2: arguably the most mid in recent memory. So to combat that,
[8:29] Speaker 2: Shams is reporting the NBA is considering a new format
[8:32] Speaker 2: for the 2025 All-Star game at the Chase Center in.
[8:35] Speaker 3: The Bay Area.
[8:36] Speaker 2: So it'll be a new four-team tournament for the 2025
[8:40] Speaker 2: All-Star game. Consists of three teams of eight All-Stars each
[8:44] Speaker 2: and the winner of the Rising Stars game, sources said.
[8:46] Speaker 2: League officials discussed the concepts in a competition committee meeting
[8:50] Speaker 2: this past Friday, so there will be Still 24 All-Stars selected,
[8:53] Speaker 2: 12 from each conference.
[8:55] Speaker 3: The 24 All-Stars will be.
[8:56] Speaker 2: Broken up into three teams of eight players each and
[8:58] Speaker 2: will also include the winner of the Rising Stars game
[9:01] Speaker 2: to create a four-team tournament. They had this format in
[9:04] Speaker 2: the Rising Stars game, right? It wasn't the worst, but....
[9:09] Speaker 3: The fuck is the Rising Stars in there for?
[9:12] Speaker 1: Because they hungry, Gil.
[9:13] Speaker 3: They trying to get that bread. It's Rising Stars. I mean,
[9:16] Speaker 3: it's first... first- and second-year players playing against real all-stars,
[9:22] Speaker 3: and you think they have a chance? Like, just... Zachary Reese,
[9:27] Speaker 3: I can't... How many players is 12 and 12, right? Yes, sir.
[9:30] Speaker 3: Won't the fuckers just do 6, 6, 6, and 6? No,
[9:34] Speaker 3: won't they just do fucking 6 on each team, play
[9:36] Speaker 3: a fucking quarter? Like, who's making up the shit y'all got?
[9:42] Speaker 3: How about this? have a prize at the end of
[9:49] Speaker 3: every quarter.
[9:52] Speaker 1: Ta-da!
[9:53] Speaker 2: You say a prize?
[9:54] Speaker 3: Prize, like.
[9:55] Speaker 4: For the team that wins the quarter.
[9:57] Speaker 3: $ 200, 000.
[9:59] Speaker 3: For the team that wins the first quarter.
[10:03] Speaker 1: Awarded.
[10:05] Speaker 3: Second quarter, team who wins the second quarter, $ 200, 000. Third quarter,
[10:09] Speaker 3: fourth quarter, which means every quarter is playing very hard
[10:13] Speaker 3: because they want the $ 200, 000. Ooh.
[10:16] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[10:17] Speaker 3: And whoever wins the most quarters, you can give them
[10:19] Speaker 3: extra bonus. And then if it's 2-2, fuck it. Whoever
[10:24] Speaker 3: had the most points.
[10:25] Speaker 2: Over time.
[10:26] Speaker 3: Right, it's, come on.
[10:28] Speaker 2: So reports say that Steph Curry and other all-stars had
[10:31] Speaker 2: input on the idea as well. Does that change your
[10:33] Speaker 2: opinion of it?
[10:35] Speaker 3: Dumb. Damn, yeah.
[10:37] Speaker 1: Okay, listen. I'm sorry, Steph.
[10:42] Speaker 3: I'm playing against LeBron James. Fair.
[10:45] Speaker 1: Right?
[10:46] Speaker 2: Bronny potentially.
[10:47] Speaker 3: I'm playing against Giannis.
[10:51] Speaker 1: I'm playing against Giannis.
[10:53] Speaker 3: Right? And then I'm playing against Sachet. Right? I'm playing
[11:02] Speaker 3: against the rookie, sophomore game. That's who I'm going to
[11:06] Speaker 3: be playing against. Like, if I'm not playing hard against
[11:09] Speaker 3: this group, why the fuck am I going to play
[11:11] Speaker 3: hard against this one? It doesn't make any sense.
[11:14] Speaker 1: Where's the accountability, Sheryl? You was an all-star. You went
[11:19] Speaker 1: up against them all-stars at the all-star games.
[11:21] Speaker 3: Did you play hard?
[11:25] Speaker 7: Am I a vet or a rookie?
[11:27] Speaker 1: Younger.
[11:29] Speaker 4: Well, yeah.
[11:31] Speaker 3: You had to think about it.
[11:31] Speaker 1: You had to prove yourself, right?
[11:33] Speaker 4: Well, if I'm a rookie, yeah.
[11:34] Speaker 7: If I'm younger, yeah.
[11:36] Speaker 4: Hell yeah.
[11:36] Speaker 1: Of course.
[11:37] Speaker 3: Rookies, yeah.
[11:38] Speaker 1: So all those guys that come in first, second, third year,
[11:41] Speaker 1: you know it's all-star time.
[11:43] Speaker 2: It's time to prove yourself.
[11:44] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[11:44] Speaker 1: I think that's that they're trying to come up with
[11:46] Speaker 1: a format to make these guys play harder, which is
[11:49] Speaker 1: the nastiest word.
[11:50] Speaker 4: That's not going to do it.
[11:52] Speaker 1: If you don't want to play hard, they're not going
[11:54] Speaker 1: to play hard. We're in the era of guys who
[11:56] Speaker 1: don't care about playing hard.
[11:58] Speaker 3: We, as the audience, have to accept they don't give
[12:03] Speaker 3: a fuck about you crying.
[12:06] Speaker 1: Customer service is not around.
[12:09] Speaker 6: I like Gil's idea because if they know, and I
[12:13] Speaker 6: don't care how much money they make, but if they
[12:14] Speaker 6: know there's some money on the line, that's going to
[12:19] Speaker 6: make them play a lot harder.
[12:20] Speaker 3: At the end of every quarter, so that means you
[12:21] Speaker 3: got to come out all that shooting, 50 fucking threes,
[12:24] Speaker 3: and I can win an extra... $ 10, 000, $ 20, 000 at the
[12:28] Speaker 3: end of this quarter. No, dog, we're going to play harder.
[12:30] Speaker 1: No doubt.
[12:30] Speaker 2: I ain't nothing but a stripper now.
[12:32] Speaker 3: Cool.
[12:33] Speaker 1: Yeah, does money make.
[12:34] Speaker 3: You move now?
[12:35] Speaker 1: The money got to make you move.
[12:37] Speaker 3: The money got to make you move.
[12:38] Speaker 1: It don't matter. Now I can throw money at you
[12:41] Speaker 1: to get you to do some stuff that you're supposed
[12:44] Speaker 1: to do because, look, I'm already giving you money to twerk. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[12:49] Speaker 1: You already getting money to twerk.
[12:52] Speaker 3: I already seen that dance. You already been doing.
[12:55] Speaker 4: The dance all season.
[12:57] Speaker 3: What happens when you pull up? Think about it. You
[12:59] Speaker 3: already paid me. I got my little money. Well, show me.
[13:01] Speaker 1: Show me.
[13:02] Speaker 3: Show me the twerk.
[13:02] Speaker 1: You pull out the big wads, right?
[13:04] Speaker 3: Show me the twerk.
[13:05] Speaker 1: I see more.
[13:05] Speaker 3: Money to get. Twerk, twerk, twerk, twerk. But you're doing
[13:09] Speaker 3: the same move.
[13:10] Speaker 5: Uh-huh.
[13:11] Speaker 1: You're doing the same move.
[13:13] Speaker 3: Pull that hundred.
[13:13] Speaker 1: Might throw the leg up.
[13:16] Speaker 3: Might throw the leg up.
[13:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, boy. I'm going to shake that hundred out of you.
[13:21] Speaker 1: Come on.
[13:22] Speaker 4: So you like the new format?
[13:23] Speaker 1: I just feel like they're just... creating a scapegoat for
[13:29] Speaker 1: the players. I'll just say, I agree with you.
[13:33] Speaker 4: Just get rid of it.
[13:34] Speaker 1: Larry Bird went into the locker room and said, guys,
[13:37] Speaker 1: come on. This time, let's play hard. And they went
[13:41] Speaker 1: out there. This time, let's play hard. I mean, the
[13:43] Speaker 1: last time they did the same thing. He's like, damn,
[13:46] Speaker 1: I went in there and I said something to him.
[13:49] Speaker 2: So we saw NBA Cup last season, that $ 500, 000 grand prize.
[13:53] Speaker 2: Some teams played hard. Some teams said, you know what?
[13:56] Speaker 2: It may be early in the season, but we're going
[13:57] Speaker 2: to Battle the odds, give the fans what they want,
[14:00] Speaker 2: and win the first ever NCAA tournament championship in NBA history.
[14:02] Speaker 3: Okay, so... Other teams did not. What I'm saying is,
[14:04] Speaker 3: so you put $ 500, 000 for a prize, and they started
[14:11] Speaker 3: this tournament cup. How was the play last year throughout
[14:14] Speaker 3: all of it? Great.
[14:15] Speaker 1: Yeah, for some teams.
[14:16] Speaker 3: How is it right now? The intensity is up, right? So.
[14:23] Speaker 3: That didn't, that didn't, the example right there didn't register
[14:28] Speaker 3: in your brains to say, maybe we should just put
[14:33] Speaker 3: a grand prize. Instead of at the end of the game,
[14:35] Speaker 3: if we want to compete throughout, a grand prize at
[14:38] Speaker 3: the end of every quarter. Just start at zero, zero.
[14:41] Speaker 3: Every time. Now it makes, even the people who come
[14:44] Speaker 3: off the bench, and now it makes you want to
[14:46] Speaker 3: coach too. Because now you got to coach to win
[14:49] Speaker 3: because you get a bonus too. So you sitting here
[14:51] Speaker 3: usually subbing in. LeBron ain't going hard. You're about to
[14:53] Speaker 3: sub this person. Steph ain't going hard. And now you
[14:56] Speaker 3: sitting here like, yeah, I'm going to get you at
[14:58] Speaker 3: the beginning of the quarter, big dog. Let me finish
[15:00] Speaker 3: with this.
[15:00] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[15:01] Speaker 3: I need to finish and I need to win this quarter.
[15:05] Speaker 3: Think about if it's 2020. What you think that defense
[15:09] Speaker 3: is on that last possession? Lock up. Like, if he
[15:12] Speaker 3: hits this, they win the money.
[15:13] Speaker 2: It's sad, man.
[15:15] Speaker 1: I mean, it's sad that they got to do this, but...
[15:17] Speaker 1: Because you're supposed to be your representation of the best players.
[15:20] Speaker 3: that are in the league.
[15:21] Speaker 1: And it's a privilege to be, but it's not seen
[15:24] Speaker 1: as the best players in the league to showcase why.
[15:26] Speaker 4: It should be.
[15:27] Speaker 1: To showcase why. Tell us why.
[15:29] Speaker 3: Show us why. Because the best players in the league
[15:32] Speaker 3: ain't always on that team.
[15:33] Speaker 1: Which is even more of a showcase for the guy
[15:37] Speaker 1: who got picked to showcase something. Something. Because you got
[15:42] Speaker 1: picked over somebody who actually everybody feels you deserve to
[15:44] Speaker 1: be here. So shoot.
[15:46] Speaker 3: Show me something.
[15:47] Speaker 2: So last All-Star weekend, they added some excitement with the
[15:50] Speaker 2: Steph versus Sabrina three-point contest. People in the chat have said,
[15:53] Speaker 2: how about a one-on-one battle? I'm going to take it
[15:55] Speaker 2: a step further. LeBron versus Bronny. Will LeBron got to
[15:58] Speaker 2: play with one hand or LeBron got to play blindfolded?
[16:00] Speaker 3: One-on-one versus Bronny.
[16:03] Speaker 2: Y'all watch that over the All-Star game.
[16:04] Speaker 3: Ain't nobody need that one-on-one.
[16:06] Speaker 5: What?
[16:06] Speaker 3: Ain't no handicap.
[16:07] Speaker 1: What?
[16:08] Speaker 3: Old man can't go like that, man.
[16:10] Speaker 1: What?
[16:12] Speaker 3: You got to start at half court. You start at
[16:15] Speaker 3: half court. You get about three dribbles. Three dribbles back.
[16:18] Speaker 3: You got that.
[16:19] Speaker 2: Bronny, there's Bronny speed. We need Bronny at the All-Star.
[16:22] Speaker 2: If they really want to get people to watch, you
[16:24] Speaker 2: need Bronny.
[16:25] Speaker 4: You need Bronny playing in the All-Star game?
[16:27] Speaker 2: Doing something.
[16:27] Speaker 3: Voting man?
[16:28] Speaker 2: Hanging out.
[16:29] Speaker 3: Relax. Relax. Is this about, listen, is this about views
[16:35] Speaker 3: or personal feelings?
[16:38] Speaker 1: Right?
[16:40] Speaker 2: But on a serious note.
[16:41] Speaker 3: Is that Bronny and Kayla Clark on that motherfucker right now?
[16:44] Speaker 3: We good.
[16:44] Speaker 1: Well.
[16:44] Speaker 3: But this is.
[16:45] Speaker 2: And the All-Star Weekend in general has lost its lust
[16:47] Speaker 2: and lost its shine. Of course, it's been in cities
[16:49] Speaker 2: that people don't necessarily care about. The league shifted that
[16:52] Speaker 2: mandate to bigger cities that could accommodate international travel, get
[16:56] Speaker 2: more fans out there, no more of these layover cities.
[16:59] Speaker 2: But what does NBA need to do to bring excitement
[17:01] Speaker 2: back to All-Star Weekend as a whole?
[17:08] Speaker 3: Mm-hmm. You know, sometimes, you know, sometimes shit just run
[17:12] Speaker 3: its course, right? And, you know, you add little things
[17:19] Speaker 3: here and there, like the dunk contest ain't the dunk
[17:21] Speaker 3: contest anymore, right? You know, if you don't have the dunk, like,
[17:27] Speaker 3: if you don't, like, the dunk contest is not necessarily
[17:30] Speaker 3: about the names. It's about the dunk, and dunks make
[17:35] Speaker 3: the names.
[17:37] Speaker 1: Right.
[17:37] Speaker 3: Like winning a dunk contest is what actually makes your
[17:40] Speaker 3: name sometimes. Yeah.
[17:42] Speaker 1: Right.
[17:42] Speaker 3: It puts you on the map to win that. So
[17:45] Speaker 3: sometimes there's there's guys who can represent the dunk contest
[17:50] Speaker 3: that you don't put in there. The three point contest,
[17:54] Speaker 3: we have that. There might be a time where you
[17:56] Speaker 3: do put a one on one contest because that is personal.
[18:00] Speaker 3: That is something that I personally want to win. No
[18:02] Speaker 3: different than a three-point contest, right? Nobody's going out there
[18:05] Speaker 3: just chucking, throwing it up there. It's just me. I
[18:08] Speaker 3: don't have to worry about nobody else's energy. It's just
[18:11] Speaker 3: me to win this. That's just me, the one-on-one. You
[18:13] Speaker 3: can fuck around and do a two-on-two. You can do
[18:16] Speaker 3: a two-on-two in a one-on-one. You got to figure out
[18:19] Speaker 3: something that takes away playing. I'm here playing around. I
[18:23] Speaker 3: don't know what the fuck they did the last one
[18:26] Speaker 3: where they bouncing the ball into the hole and doing
[18:29] Speaker 3: all the stuff. The stupidest shit ever.
[18:33] Speaker 1: Bounce the ball in the thing.
[18:34] Speaker 3: We're going to throw this. We're going to do that.
[18:35] Speaker 3: Fuck all that dumb shit. That's not competitive. Competitive is
[18:39] Speaker 3: put a dude in front of me and we're trying
[18:43] Speaker 3: to win something. Now you will see. When we watch online,
[18:49] Speaker 3: we watch one-on-ones, right? They damn near about to fight.
[18:54] Speaker 3: Every clip we watch, that will be the same thing
[18:56] Speaker 3: in the NBA. Because now it's about my pride the
[18:59] Speaker 3: whole world's watching. I'm not going to be sitting here
[19:01] Speaker 3: fucking around with you. Not sitting here. No, you're going
[19:06] Speaker 3: to be trying to embarrass me. I got to guard Luka, Kyrie,
[19:10] Speaker 3: or Shea. I'm not sitting here trying to just throw
[19:13] Speaker 3: the ball up and chuckle. You guys are trying to
[19:15] Speaker 3: embarrass me.
[19:16] Speaker 1: But the difference is there's being picked for the All-Star
[19:20] Speaker 1: game and then saying I want to be a part
[19:23] Speaker 1: of the All-Star game. When you say you want to
[19:25] Speaker 1: be a part of it, that means you're participating at
[19:27] Speaker 1: the maximum.
[19:28] Speaker 3: Yeah. Right?
[19:29] Speaker 1: So think about all the guys who are asked, who
[19:32] Speaker 1: don't want to be a part of it, feel obligated.
[19:34] Speaker 3: And they get there.
[19:36] Speaker 1: They don't want to do it, they don't want to
[19:37] Speaker 1: win it. They have no competitive spirit. Right? And we
[19:42] Speaker 1: could just say something like, just from friend to friend,
[19:45] Speaker 1: athlete to athlete, if we got a goal right here
[19:48] Speaker 1: and we all got past the ball to make it, it,
[19:50] Speaker 1: we all trying to beat each other.
[19:53] Speaker 4: For sure.
[19:54] Speaker 1: So it's like, where is that spirit? That spirit has gone.
[19:56] Speaker 1: It's disappeared. So if we did get rid of the
[20:01] Speaker 1: All-Star game, what would it do to the fan base?
[20:04] Speaker 3: What would it do to the morale of the league?
[20:07] Speaker 1: You're getting rid of one of the premier places where
[20:10] Speaker 1: we can showcase the best players, not just on the
[20:14] Speaker 1: floor individually on their teams, but against each other, taking
[20:17] Speaker 1: the challenge.
[20:18] Speaker 6: Well, yeah, but you're not really showcasing that because they're
[20:22] Speaker 6: not really playing.
[20:23] Speaker 2: Exactly, which is.
[20:25] Speaker 1: The mockery of it, so now you have to change it, which,
[20:27] Speaker 1: like he said, it runs its.
[20:29] Speaker 3: Course, which it has.
[20:31] Speaker 1: If you really think about dunk contests, if we didn't
[20:35] Speaker 1: see all the dunks we're going to see, Ain't too
[20:37] Speaker 1: much more we can see. And if y'all not doing it,
[20:40] Speaker 1: and there's somebody outside the league that's doing it, what's
[20:42] Speaker 1: the point of the dunk contest? Three-point. It's supposed to
[20:45] Speaker 1: be skills, right? We're supposed to be showcasing skills.
[20:48] Speaker 2: Three-point contest.
[20:49] Speaker 1: If Steph don't shoot every time, Clay don't shoot every time,
[20:52] Speaker 1: and Dame don't shoot every time, we not going to
[20:55] Speaker 1: get a real winner. Trey Young not going. Like, y'all
[20:59] Speaker 1: not going up against each other to win? We don't
[21:01] Speaker 1: know who the best shooter is.
[21:02] Speaker 3: And that's the thing right there. Like, you have a
[21:04] Speaker 3: three-point contest, and... you're going off of percentage. That ain't
[21:10] Speaker 3: the fucking... That ain't the best. Like, he shoots fucking
[21:13] Speaker 3: a half a shot a game. Right. He shoots 70%.
[21:16] Speaker 3: That is not a... Volume shooters. Yep. Volume shooters is
[21:21] Speaker 3: people who are taking a lot of shots. You can
[21:22] Speaker 3: really see how good they can shoot.
[21:25] Speaker 1: Yep.
[21:25] Speaker 3: Right? So, some guy who shoots one or two shots
[21:28] Speaker 3: a game shooting at a 60% clip, that is not
[21:30] Speaker 3: a three-point marksman.
[21:32] Speaker 1: No.
[21:32] Speaker 4: So, question.
[21:33] Speaker 1: Question.
[21:34] Speaker 6: So last year, the Sabrina Steff competition, people like.
[21:40] Speaker 4: That or no?
[21:41] Speaker 3: They enjoyed it. They enjoyed it. I didn't.
[21:43] Speaker 4: So you didn't?
[21:44] Speaker 1: No.
[21:45] Speaker 3: I enjoyed it.
[21:46] Speaker 1: I thought they was reaching.
[21:48] Speaker 3: No, look, I enjoyed it because she shot from the
[21:51] Speaker 3: NBA 3. Yeah. Right? Yeah. Well, damn. It kind of
[21:57] Speaker 3: put perspective in how good she can shoot.
[21:59] Speaker 4: So here's my question.
[22:00] Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
[22:01] Speaker 6: Do you have a competition where, instead of it being.
[22:07] Speaker 7: Steph versus Sabrina, they're going.
[22:09] Speaker 4: Against each other, do you have a team?
[22:10] Speaker 1: That's what I was thinking.
[22:11] Speaker 7: Steph and Sabrina are a team.
[22:12] Speaker 6: Now, Kaitlyn Clark and whoever is a team, and another
[22:15] Speaker 6: WNBA player and an NBA player is a team.
[22:17] Speaker 2: They've talked about potentially expanding it out to making it
[22:19] Speaker 2: two-on-two or another format like that.
[22:21] Speaker 6: And does that make it more exciting than what they
[22:24] Speaker 6: did last year?
[22:25] Speaker 3: Then you would have to do this. You guys can't
[22:28] Speaker 3: pick the teams. Let you pick captains and say, all right,
[22:33] Speaker 3: here's my five.
[22:35] Speaker 1: I got five.
[22:36] Speaker 3: Captains here in the men's side, five captains on the
[22:38] Speaker 3: women's side. You captains pick who you, because we're players.
[22:43] Speaker 3: We know who can shoot the fucking ball.
[22:45] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[22:46] Speaker 3: Let Steph go pick his player that he want to
[22:48] Speaker 3: shoot with. Most likely, he's going to go get Klay. Or.
[22:51] Speaker 1: Or let the fans pick.
[22:54] Speaker 3: Fuck no. You know why?
[22:57] Speaker 1: Because all of the guys can shoot. Everybody can shoot.
[23:01] Speaker 1: It don't matter whose team you're on.
[23:03] Speaker 6: I think it makes it more interesting if the fans pick.
[23:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, because it don't matter. It's like random select. You
[23:07] Speaker 1: don't know who on your team.
[23:09] Speaker 3: The fans are like, I want to see.
[23:11] Speaker 1: Sabrina and Clay versus Caitlyn and Stack. Let's see them
[23:15] Speaker 1: two together.
[23:16] Speaker 3: No, but what I'm saying is, Like, then let the
[23:19] Speaker 3: team already be picked. Like, I don't want a whole
[23:21] Speaker 3: bunch of people being picked, and they're not the best. Right?
[23:25] Speaker 1: No, I'm saying among the best. No, we're saying a pool.
[23:28] Speaker 1: A pool of all the best shooters, and the fans
[23:30] Speaker 1: get to pick who the teams are.
[23:33] Speaker 3: Who's on what team.
[23:34] Speaker 4: Yeah, like, you already know.
[23:35] Speaker 6: That here are the five guys, here are the five women.
[23:38] Speaker 6: And then the fans get to vote. I'm going to
[23:40] Speaker 6: put Sabrina with whoever.
[23:43] Speaker 3: Trae Young. Yeah.
[23:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, for real.
[23:45] Speaker 3: You know. Why can't we let Steph pick Clay?
[23:49] Speaker 1: Because it makes it fun for the All-Star game. Remember
[23:52] Speaker 1: what we're trying to do. We're trying to make it
[23:54] Speaker 1: more engaging. We're making it more engaging, though.
[23:57] Speaker 6: But it's still going to be competitive because you supposedly.
[24:00] Speaker 1: Have the best of the best.
[24:01] Speaker 2: Yes, the best of the best.
[24:02] Speaker 4: So it's still going to be competitive.
[24:03] Speaker 1: No matter who's on what team, we all can shoot.
[24:05] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[24:06] Speaker 1: For sure. It's okay, sir.
[24:12] Speaker 3: If I'm Clay, if I'm Curry, I want my Splash Brother.
[24:16] Speaker 3: I've watched his work ethic.
[24:17] Speaker 1: You don't want your Splash Brother. You just let him walk.
[24:20] Speaker 1: You don't want that, man. You don't want to hear that.
[24:23] Speaker 1: We're not responding to the text.
[24:25] Speaker 3: I want him. Now you have KD. KD is going
[24:27] Speaker 3: to pick the guy he knows can shoot that shit.
[24:30] Speaker 3: We might not know who that person is. Let him
[24:32] Speaker 3: pick that to compete against us.
[24:33] Speaker 6: It still makes it more exciting, I think, if the
[24:37] Speaker 6: fans are the ones saying, mm-mm, this.
[24:40] Speaker 1: Is who we want to see.
[24:42] Speaker 3: This is who we want to see. How do they
[24:44] Speaker 3: know who the greatest shooter is? They only go by percentage.
[24:46] Speaker 1: No, they're going by the pool of players to pick from.
[24:48] Speaker 3: And who's picking the pool? We are, I guess. That's
[24:52] Speaker 3: the problem. Who's picking the pool?
[24:53] Speaker 1: The players who actually, like you said, volunteer. Who wants
[24:55] Speaker 1: to be a part of it? Because we're not going
[24:56] Speaker 1: to force them to do it.
[24:58] Speaker 3: So we ask Clay.
[24:58] Speaker 1: Yeah, because when you force.
[25:01] Speaker 7: Them, to me, that's when you don't get shit.
[25:05] Speaker 4: Like, example.
[25:06] Speaker 6: The women's three-point shooting contest this year, Sabrina was like,
[25:11] Speaker 6: I don't want to shoot. But if you ask her
[25:17] Speaker 6: to shoot this next year in the NBA All-Star like
[25:21] Speaker 6: she did with Steph, she's all in it.
[25:23] Speaker 2: Absolutely.
[25:24] Speaker 6: So the point of, don't force them to do it.
[25:28] Speaker 6: Just say who wants out of The best three-point shooters
[25:31] Speaker 6: we have, who wants to shoot in the three-point contest?
[25:34] Speaker 2: Who wants to prove they're the best. Another question for
[25:36] Speaker 2: you guys. Does the city have anything to do with it?
[25:38] Speaker 2: As an all-star, are you more excited to go to
[25:41] Speaker 2: Vegas versus Salt Lake City?
[25:44] Speaker 3: But that's the problem. There's going to be some times
[25:46] Speaker 3: where you have to fluctuate. No different than just life itself.
[25:51] Speaker 3: Certain cities, you need to pay a little bit more
[25:53] Speaker 3: to get people there. Versus, you know if it's in L.A.,
[25:56] Speaker 3: if it's in L.A., I don't need to convince. I
[26:01] Speaker 3: don't need to throw $ 50, 000 at a player to participate
[26:04] Speaker 3: in L.A. This is where you want to play. Utah,
[26:08] Speaker 3: I might have to. Hey, I got $ 75, 000. You know
[26:11] Speaker 3: what I mean? I might have to do that.
[26:13] Speaker 2: Why not do it like the Super Bowl and just
[26:14] Speaker 2: have a six-city rotation, seven-city rotation?
[26:16] Speaker 3: It should be that way.
[26:17] Speaker 2: L.A., New York, Vegas, Houston, Atlanta.
[26:19] Speaker 3: No, New York. No, New York. Okay, well. Too cold,
[26:23] Speaker 3: city's not big enough. Like, I mean, it's... I mean,
[26:28] Speaker 3: we're talking about February. February has to be in a
[26:31] Speaker 3: place where everybody can go and wear the shit that
[26:34] Speaker 3: they want to wear. Like, you know, the women want
[26:37] Speaker 3: to wear shit that attracts men. You want that shit
[26:40] Speaker 3: in a hot city. Okay.
[26:41] Speaker 7: No doubt.
[26:42] Speaker 1: No doubt.
[26:44] Speaker 3: You know how I look? Ashy-ass legs and elbows in Chicago.
[26:50] Speaker 3: They trying to wear some skirts going to the club.
[26:52] Speaker 1: Very cool.
[26:53] Speaker 3: Weig done flew 50 miles. A whole bunch of ball hands.
[26:59] Speaker 1: Collar shaking.
[27:00] Speaker 3: Over there sitting there shaking. Weig done flew. God damn,
[27:04] Speaker 3: what's that? Hey, baby. God damn.
[27:07] Speaker 2: I was in Chicago for All-Star Week.
[27:09] Speaker 3: Did I just get her number?
[27:10] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[27:11] Speaker 3: It was cold. I know.
[27:13] Speaker 4: I can't stand you. I can't stand you.
[27:15] Speaker 2: You can walk down the street, Chicago, Cleveland, without, you know,
[27:19] Speaker 2: ears start burning because it's so cold. But we asked
[27:20] Speaker 2: the chat, are you a fan of the new All-Star
[27:22] Speaker 2: Game format? 73% said it's dumb.
[27:25] Speaker 3: All right, but let's get into some basketball.
[27:28] Speaker 2: 73%?
[27:28] Speaker 1: 73% said it's dumb.
[27:29] Speaker 3: It is dumb. The one they're trying?
[27:32] Speaker 2: Just tell them to play hard.
[27:33] Speaker 6: And I'm sorry, one last question.
[27:35] Speaker 4: So will they do a draft?
[27:39] Speaker 2: Like they've done before?
[27:41] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[27:42] Speaker 1: Since it'll be three teams, though.
[27:43] Speaker 2: Probably do three captains, let them pick eight, seven guys
[27:45] Speaker 2: per team. The captain picks seven players for the three.
[27:49] Speaker 7: And then the rising stars.
[27:51] Speaker 3: You got it.
[27:52] Speaker 1: Lame.
[27:53] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[27:53] Speaker 3: Or they put them all together, so... In a pool.
[27:56] Speaker 3: So that means, like... You got one rising star captain,
[28:01] Speaker 3: and then you got, like, okay, so let's say Steph
[28:04] Speaker 3: or LeBron and then Giannis. Then it's those three captains,
[28:07] Speaker 3: then they're going to be picking players.
[28:08] Speaker 2: And then the rising stars team that wins that rising
[28:10] Speaker 2: stars competition, how they say it, I think you just
[28:12] Speaker 2: take that.
[28:12] Speaker 3: Rising stars, the sophomores.
[28:14] Speaker 1: The sophomores.
[28:15] Speaker 3: Whoever their players are that win that.
[28:16] Speaker 1: The sophomores.
[28:17] Speaker 3: Because I'm pretty sure how many rookie teams actually beat
[28:22] Speaker 3: the sophomore team? We got Konek, we got Bronny. No,
[28:26] Speaker 3: I'm not saying has that ever happened. How many times
[28:28] Speaker 3: has that happened where the freshman team actually beat the
[28:31] Speaker 3: sophomore team? So basically the sophomore. So it's Wimby's group. Yeah,
[28:37] Speaker 3: you're right.
[28:37] Speaker 2: Fair, fair.
[28:38] Speaker 3: Now think about the Giannis and the Steph or LeBron
[28:42] Speaker 3: who's picking for their team. You really think they're going
[28:45] Speaker 3: to pick? The only person that will be picked like
[28:48] Speaker 3: top will be Wimby.
[28:51] Speaker 2: No, I think they'll just have their own separate team.
[28:53] Speaker 3: Then it makes it even worse.
[28:54] Speaker 2: The Rising Stars will be their crew, and then the
[28:56] Speaker 2: 24 All-Stars will get divvied up amongst the actual All-Star players.
[28:59] Speaker 7: But it's how many?
[29:00] Speaker 4: It's eight?
[29:01] Speaker 1: Eight, eight, eight. And then how do.
[29:03] Speaker 6: They pick the eight from the Rising Stars?
[29:05] Speaker 2: And then I think the Rising Stars teams are eight, eight, eight, two,
[29:07] Speaker 2: if I'm not mistaken.
[29:08] Speaker 3: So it's four teams?
[29:10] Speaker 2: It'll be four teams total. Four teams of eight playing
[29:12] Speaker 2: against each other. So four from the... From the rookie
[29:14] Speaker 2: class or from the sophomore class? No, just whoever that,
[29:17] Speaker 2: I think that Rising Stars team that wins.
[29:19] Speaker 3: The Rising Stars team is 12 players, right?
[29:22] Speaker 2: They split those up into like 8-8-8 or 6-6-6 or
[29:23] Speaker 2: something like that.
[29:24] Speaker 1: Wait, wait, what? No.
[29:26] Speaker 2: So the Rising Stars game is already that format. It's
[29:30] Speaker 2: three different teams of eight guys and they all play
[29:32] Speaker 2: against each other.
[29:33] Speaker 3: And how do they determine the winner?
[29:36] Speaker 4: It's dumb.
[29:37] Speaker 3: I didn't care.
[29:38] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[29:39] Speaker 3: I play against you. If I beat you, I play
[29:41] Speaker 3: against you. I beat you. I'm good. That's it. It's over.
[29:44] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[29:44] Speaker 3: First one to win two games.
[29:46] Speaker 2: Yeah. First of two.
[29:48] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[29:49] Speaker 2: And moving on, let's talk actual real basketball and Adam
[29:53] Speaker 2: Silver's NBA.
[29:53] Speaker 4: That is dumb.
[29:54] Speaker 2: So 15-0 Cavs pulled up to Boston for their second
[29:57] Speaker 2: NBA Cup game. first meeting against the defending champion Celtics.
[30:03] Speaker 2: Jason Tatum continued to show why he's not only the
[30:05] Speaker 2: number one option on the Celtics, but needs to be
[30:08] Speaker 2: in the convo for number one option in the league
[30:10] Speaker 2: this season. So Tatum delivered his league-leading ninth 30-point game
[30:16] Speaker 2: this season, dropping 33 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, and
[30:19] Speaker 2: two steals in 38 minutes, hitting six of the Celtics'
[30:23] Speaker 2: 22 threes in the game. First off, how do y'all
[30:25] Speaker 2: feel about this court? It's like a tennis court.
[30:27] Speaker 1: I hate it.
[30:29] Speaker 2: It's nasty work.
[30:30] Speaker 3: Trash. Nasty work, nasty work.
[30:31] Speaker 4: That's horrible.
[30:32] Speaker 3: Trash!
[30:34] Speaker 2: The game was close in the first half until the
[30:35] Speaker 2: Celtics went on a 19-7 run to end the second quarter,
[30:38] Speaker 2: took a 17-point lead in the break. Cavs overcame a
[30:42] Speaker 2: 21-point third-quarter deficit to cut the lead to within two,
[30:45] Speaker 2: but that's as close as they would get as the
[30:47] Speaker 2: Celtics held on. to get their biggest win of the
[30:49] Speaker 2: season to date. So Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs with
[30:52] Speaker 2: 35 points and 8 rebounds. 13 for 29 from the field,
[30:54] Speaker 2: 3 for 11 from 3. Evan Mobley had 22-11 boards
[30:57] Speaker 2: and 6 assists. Darius Garland had his worst game of
[30:59] Speaker 2: the season, going 3 for 21 from the field, 0
[31:02] Speaker 2: for 6 from 3, finishing with 8.7 assists and 31
[31:04] Speaker 2: minutes of action. In addition to Tatum's 33-piece, Al Horford
[31:08] Speaker 2: added 20 points, 7 boards.
[31:09] Speaker 3: Al Horford. Al Horford.
[31:11] Speaker 2: 20 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, going four for five
[31:15] Speaker 2: from deep. Derek White had 19 six boards and five dimes.
[31:18] Speaker 2: And unfortunately, Gil, Jalen Brown, 17 and eight assists. I'm
[31:22] Speaker 2: shy of helping you get your partner packed.
[31:24] Speaker 3: It's okay, man.
[31:25] Speaker 2: No, it's not. You take care of a lot of
[31:28] Speaker 2: people over here, Gil.
[31:30] Speaker 3: What do they always say? I don't give a fuck
[31:32] Speaker 3: about your parlay. We do care here at Underdog. So
[31:39] Speaker 3: I can already hear you.
[31:41] Speaker 2: So six Celtics scored in double figures in the game,
[31:44] Speaker 2: and Boston has now won seven of their last eight games,
[31:46] Speaker 2: including four straight. Rashad, you are a former Celtics fan,
[31:49] Speaker 2: current Knicks fan. Hope we still have love for Beantown.
[31:52] Speaker 2: But what's your reaction to Celtics giving the Cavs their
[31:54] Speaker 2: first loss of the season?
[31:56] Speaker 1: It's a good game. Definitely a good game. Garland didn't
[31:59] Speaker 1: play well. I expected a little bit more from the Celtics, but,
[32:07] Speaker 1: you know, it's what I thought Cleveland was going to
[32:11] Speaker 1: deliver to the Eastern Conference this year. It's always going
[32:14] Speaker 1: to be a hard-fought game to the end if they're healthy.
[32:17] Speaker 1: It's going to be a one-two possession game. It's going
[32:21] Speaker 1: to dictate who wins, and....
[32:25] Speaker 2: Celtics have more to prove than anybody else. You think
[32:28] Speaker 2: as a defending champ the Celtics still have more to prove?
[32:30] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because they can't show faults. They can't
[32:32] Speaker 1: show gaps. They can't show weaknesses that contribute to them
[32:37] Speaker 1: ultimately collapsing. You're only as strong as the weakest link.
[32:42] Speaker 1: No one's figured out what that is yet. So when
[32:45] Speaker 1: they do, it's going to be ultimately up to them
[32:46] Speaker 1: to kind of fix it in real time.
[32:50] Speaker 2: Let's move to this side, Cheryl. Obviously, Celtics franchise record
[32:53] Speaker 2: 15 wins. Won a four-team to start the season, 15-0
[32:57] Speaker 2: or better. All the other ones have gone on to
[33:00] Speaker 2: reach the finals. But surprising with the Celtics. I don't
[33:03] Speaker 2: think a lot of people, if you told them Celtics
[33:05] Speaker 2: would be 15-0 to start the season, they would have
[33:07] Speaker 2: believed you. But here we are. What do you think
[33:10] Speaker 2: about the game and the Celtics handing the Cavs their
[33:13] Speaker 2: first loss?
[33:14] Speaker 6: Well, I didn't watch the game, but I will just
[33:18] Speaker 6: comment on the Celtics. Anytime you are the defending champions...
[33:24] Speaker 6: and you're coming into the season, you've.
[33:30] Speaker 7: Got to show up.
[33:31] Speaker 6: I know some people are like, there's no pressure, but
[33:33] Speaker 6: you're the defending champions. You know everybody's going to give
[33:35] Speaker 6: you their best shot. And considering the Cavs had not lost,
[33:40] Speaker 6: you knew the Celtics were going to want to come
[33:42] Speaker 6: in and give them their first loss. But personally, I've
[33:46] Speaker 6: been pretty impressed with what the Celtics have been able
[33:48] Speaker 6: to do so far this season.
[33:50] Speaker 2: 12-3, second in the East right now.
[33:55] Speaker 3: The only flaw I don't, I mean, I see that
[33:59] Speaker 3: they're not consistently doing this, like getting filed. They don't
[34:06] Speaker 3: know how to get filed. And I don't like that idea.
[34:11] Speaker 3: I mean, you know, you're better than everyone, but you
[34:13] Speaker 3: can dominate everyone. If you understood how to put people
[34:20] Speaker 3: in the penalty, right? Right. Put people in the penalty.
[34:24] Speaker 3: Get fouled. Because you guys shoot jump shots and everything
[34:28] Speaker 3: is trying to jump away from everybody. Go back to
[34:31] Speaker 3: the beginning of the video. Jason Tatum is a jumper.
[34:38] Speaker 3: Right here. Two feet, gone. Go back. Now go slow.
[34:44] Speaker 3: You jumped. Right? Right there. Like, see, you're going off
[34:52] Speaker 3: of two. He's jumping with you. You should be jumping
[34:56] Speaker 3: so you're no contact. That should be an and one. Right?
[35:01] Speaker 3: He should be able to, if you jump, if you're
[35:03] Speaker 3: jumping at him, like, it's not like he's taking a charge.
[35:07] Speaker 3: He's jumping up.
[35:07] Speaker 1: If you jump.
[35:08] Speaker 3: Did they call a foul right here, though? No, they
[35:10] Speaker 3: didn't call no foul.
[35:10] Speaker 1: Yeah, they called an and one.
[35:11] Speaker 3: Oh, they did? Oh, they ended up calling it?
[35:13] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[35:14] Speaker 3: But that's what he does. Keep going.
[35:19] Speaker 6: So you're saying he shies away from the contact?
[35:21] Speaker 3: Yeah, all of them.
[35:22] Speaker 1: Boom. Now, right here.
[35:23] Speaker 3: Like....
[35:27] Speaker 4: What you want to do?
[35:28] Speaker 3: Go back. Look where he falls.
[35:32] Speaker 1: I know exactly what he's talking about.
[35:34] Speaker 3: Go forward. So Self is currently ninth in the league
[35:38] Speaker 3: of free throw attempts per game. All right, so he falls.
[35:41] Speaker 3: Right there. That's a jump shot right there where his
[35:43] Speaker 3: left leg was.
[35:43] Speaker 4: Absolutely it was.
[35:44] Speaker 3: Now you're going. Yeah.
[35:45] Speaker 1: Right?
[35:46] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[35:46] Speaker 4: But he wanted a three.
[35:48] Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's what I'm saying. So you're moving away.
[35:52] Speaker 2: Southern's only ninth in the league in free throw attempts
[35:54] Speaker 2: per game. First in the league in three-point attempts at
[35:57] Speaker 2: 50.5 per game. Eight more in the next closest team,
[36:01] Speaker 2: which is the Bulls, at 42.5. I get what you're saying.
[36:05] Speaker 1: I believe that when you don't have a foundational offense
[36:13] Speaker 1: that is predicated to getting fouled, you're just having a
[36:17] Speaker 1: free-flowing offense otherwise where you're depending on drive and kick,
[36:21] Speaker 1: drive and kick, drive and kick, make something happen. So
[36:24] Speaker 1: that play you was just explaining where he beat him
[36:27] Speaker 1: and he stepped back, he's avoiding the contact, is because
[36:31] Speaker 1: it's free motion now. It's just like pickup. It's pickup ball.
[36:35] Speaker 1: So if you're running a play, and I'm telling you
[36:38] Speaker 1: when you catch the ball, you turn this corner and
[36:41] Speaker 1: you score it, No matter who's in your way, bro,
[36:44] Speaker 1: you're going to get that foul. Like you said, I'm
[36:45] Speaker 1: going to get that contact to score it. They're not
[36:48] Speaker 1: doing that because there's no offense.
[36:50] Speaker 3: Or they took out baiting. Well, even if you took
[36:53] Speaker 3: out baiting, it's still not trying. But you see how
[36:56] Speaker 3: you take something out and there's another problem. See, the
[37:01] Speaker 3: problem you had was baiting foul. Trying to sit here,
[37:05] Speaker 3: pump fake, pump fake, jump, jump, jump.
[37:06] Speaker 2: Shooting too many free throws.
[37:07] Speaker 3: Right? Shooting too many free throws. Now you're complaining, shooting
[37:09] Speaker 3: too many threes. Right. Do y'all not think of, if
[37:15] Speaker 3: we take this away, what's going to happen? Like, do
[37:18] Speaker 3: you not think of that? Like, there's always a reaction
[37:21] Speaker 3: to the action.
[37:22] Speaker 1: Because if I'm not getting the call, I might as
[37:26] Speaker 1: well shoot the three.
[37:27] Speaker 3: If I'm not going to get the call, I'm going
[37:28] Speaker 3: to shoot the three.
[37:29] Speaker 1: Because it's a turnover if I go in there and
[37:30] Speaker 1: I get fouled and you don't call it.
[37:33] Speaker 2: It's a turnover.
[37:33] Speaker 3: Yep. I'm shooting it. If I come, I come and
[37:35] Speaker 3: do the T-Mac Hezzy, and you jump and I get you. Now,
[37:40] Speaker 3: if I know you're not going to do that, Fuck it,
[37:43] Speaker 3: I'm a sidestep. Sidestep, shoot my open shot. That's what
[37:48] Speaker 3: you done turned the game into. Your little rules that
[37:51] Speaker 3: you're complaining about here is changing something here. You keep
[37:55] Speaker 3: trying to change these little things and you're not actually...
[37:59] Speaker 3: Start talking to basketball players. If we take this away
[38:02] Speaker 3: from you, what are you going to do? and let
[38:04] Speaker 3: them give you the answer versus a bunch of referees
[38:08] Speaker 3: who never played the game at a high level sitting
[38:10] Speaker 3: there saying, well, you know, they sit here doing this
[38:13] Speaker 3: and pump faking and doing this and trying to get
[38:15] Speaker 3: the foul. We're going to take this away from them.
[38:18] Speaker 3: And you don't know what the recourse is.
[38:20] Speaker 1: So what happens when you do this? Everything's twos.
[38:26] Speaker 2: Get rid of the three-point line.
[38:28] Speaker 3: Bring it back.
[38:29] Speaker 2: Everything's two.
[38:30] Speaker 3: Back down memory lane.
[38:31] Speaker 1: What happens to the mentality of the player when everything
[38:36] Speaker 1: is two? Now, you know how much of a bad
[38:39] Speaker 1: shot that is? You know how much accountability you got
[38:42] Speaker 1: to take now if everything's two and you're pulling a 40-footer?
[38:47] Speaker 3: Why?
[38:48] Speaker 1: Well, not for Steph, but... Not for Steph, not for
[38:50] Speaker 1: certain guys. It's like, give it to me, I'm going
[38:52] Speaker 1: to take it. But it's no longer the concept, three's
[38:55] Speaker 1: more than two.
[38:56] Speaker 6: Well, then you probably have players that want the contact.
[39:00] Speaker 1: Yes.
[39:01] Speaker 6: So now it's the only way you're going to get
[39:03] Speaker 6: that three is.
[39:04] Speaker 4: And once.
[39:05] Speaker 3: Yeah. So now I'm driving. I'm going back to my mid-range.
[39:08] Speaker 1: Now I come from.
[39:10] Speaker 3: Now I start averaging with this talent. 140 points a game.
[39:13] Speaker 1: Come on, man. That scoring goes way up.
[39:15] Speaker 3: Because now there's no center down there to actually stop us.
[39:18] Speaker 1: Boom.
[39:19] Speaker 3: I get to jump through everybody's chest.
[39:21] Speaker 1: Foul trouble galore. Go to your bench.
[39:25] Speaker 6: But then do you have, on the defensive side, do
[39:29] Speaker 6: you have players playing off of you a.
[39:33] Speaker 4: Little bit more?
[39:33] Speaker 2: Two's two.
[39:35] Speaker 6: But I'm saying because you're taking the three away, right?
[39:38] Speaker 6: So they're going to play, if you're standing back there
[39:40] Speaker 6: behind the three-point line, do you have the defense playing
[39:44] Speaker 6: off of you like, well, shoot it, it's only going to.
[39:47] Speaker 4: Be a two anyway.
[39:47] Speaker 1: Well, picture no lines.
[39:49] Speaker 3: No, no, no, because there's no line at all.
[39:51] Speaker 1: Ain't no line. Shoot it.
[39:53] Speaker 3: Remember, these players are stupid. They're still stupid, right? You know,
[39:56] Speaker 3: you still got stupidness in there. So if they don't
[39:59] Speaker 3: see a line, it can't get there. Not all of them.
[40:02] Speaker 3: I'm just saying they're still stupid.
[40:05] Speaker 1: No, no. They'll make a line.
[40:07] Speaker 3: There's no line. I might fuck around back up to
[40:10] Speaker 3: the goddamn rim. Where do I go? Where do I go?
[40:16] Speaker 3: Where do I go?
[40:16] Speaker 1: Wow. I don't know this place.
[40:20] Speaker 3: I don't know this place. You take away the concept of, right,
[40:24] Speaker 3: these guys have learned from lines. Like, okay, the three-point line,
[40:28] Speaker 3: I stop right here. Okay, below the free throw line,
[40:31] Speaker 3: I got a thing to do this, right? You take
[40:32] Speaker 3: it away from them, they wasn't taught just basketball.
[40:37] Speaker 1: And think about where you catch the ball. As a shooter,
[40:41] Speaker 1: usually when you see the line.
[40:43] Speaker 3: Where's the logo?
[40:44] Speaker 1: The fucking logo right there, dog. Hey, ain't no more
[40:46] Speaker 1: short twos. Ain't no more long twos.
[40:50] Speaker 3: It just goes back to the 60s. It does.
[40:52] Speaker 1: It's just the highest scoring era. It does. It goes
[40:56] Speaker 1: back to them.
[40:57] Speaker 3: You're going to still have your pistol piece. You're going
[41:01] Speaker 3: to still have the guys who can actually still shoot.
[41:03] Speaker 3: You're still going to pick up Steph and Dame from
[41:06] Speaker 3: the half court. That's just naturally.
[41:08] Speaker 6: There are players you have to do that to.
[41:11] Speaker 3: Steph don't give a fuck if it's a two or
[41:12] Speaker 3: a three. If you're going to back up and give
[41:14] Speaker 3: me my open shot, I'm going to shoot my open shot.
[41:17] Speaker 1: And like you said, guys like Vando... And all those
[41:20] Speaker 1: other guys that played for the Mavericks last year. Jones Jr.
[41:26] Speaker 3: You look stupid now.
[41:26] Speaker 1: You look crazy. You wouldn't even be out there to
[41:28] Speaker 1: shoot a tree like that.
[41:29] Speaker 3: Yeah, now because, whoa, whoa, whoa. You shooting too fucking far.
[41:33] Speaker 1: Absolutely.
[41:34] Speaker 3: Now let's get to your range. That's what we used
[41:35] Speaker 3: to say, right? You know what I mean?
[41:37] Speaker 1: Hey, school in.
[41:38] Speaker 3: That ain't your range, bro.
[41:39] Speaker 1: What you doing?
[41:40] Speaker 3: You know what I'm talking about, yeah? Like, what's so
[41:43] Speaker 3: funny is we know that's not your range, but they're
[41:45] Speaker 3: allowing you to shoot it.
[41:46] Speaker 1: That's why the game is fucked up. No one's saying nothing. Like, hey,
[41:50] Speaker 1: what are you doing out there, bro?
[41:52] Speaker 3: Oh, well, I'm working on my three.
[41:53] Speaker 1: Why? You ain't even working on your two.
[41:56] Speaker 4: Yeah, that's not what you do. That's not what you do.
[42:00] Speaker 3: Here, NBA, how about this? You just do it for
[42:05] Speaker 3: one game.
[42:06] Speaker 1: Do it in....
[42:09] Speaker 3: Do it in... Not summer league, but do it in...
[42:12] Speaker 3: What is this shit? Preseason.
[42:14] Speaker 1: Preseason.
[42:15] Speaker 3: Take away the NBA 3.
[42:16] Speaker 2: See what happens. Right?
[42:17] Speaker 1: That would be dope.
[42:18] Speaker 3: Then you watch the guy. Watch all the shooters. And
[42:23] Speaker 3: the guys who think they're shooters watch where they stand. Unbelievable.
[42:27] Speaker 3: I guarantee you, when you start looking at where they stand,
[42:30] Speaker 3: it won't be the old three-point line. They're going to
[42:32] Speaker 3: start getting to the shit they can shoot.
[42:34] Speaker 1: I'm closer.
[42:35] Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm going to start it. I can make an 18-footer. But, yeah,
[42:39] Speaker 3: I was trying to get three points.
[42:40] Speaker 1: I was just trying to get three. Then it looks
[42:43] Speaker 1: like college.
[42:45] Speaker 2: Looks like the college, it shrinks the floor.
[42:47] Speaker 3: It shrinks the floor.
[42:48] Speaker 2: So, Shaw, you said potentially doing that in the All-Star game. Now,
[42:52] Speaker 2: if you want to make it more exciting, no threes.
[42:54] Speaker 2: Everything is a two.
[42:55] Speaker 1: Now, you see how the format of the court looked
[42:58] Speaker 1: for Boston in that tournament setting?
[43:01] Speaker 2: Just take the line out.
[43:03] Speaker 1: No threes. Shoot from wherever. Everywhere you shoot from is equal.
[43:07] Speaker 6: That shit would be real interesting.
[43:08] Speaker 3: And then you get to see now, like, when they do, like,
[43:11] Speaker 3: you take away the three. Now, when Jason does a
[43:14] Speaker 3: step back, he ain't doing a step back looking for
[43:16] Speaker 3: the three points. Exactly the line. That's exactly what he
[43:18] Speaker 3: was doing. It's a line shot, too. They're looking at
[43:21] Speaker 3: the line.
[43:22] Speaker 2: Yes, they're looking at line hunting.
[43:24] Speaker 1: We call it line. We say don't line hunt. Stop
[43:27] Speaker 1: line hunting.
[43:29] Speaker 2: You take your eye off the ball.
[43:30] Speaker 3: I'm going to be right here, boom.
[43:31] Speaker 6: Because if there's no three, he probably doesn't even do
[43:33] Speaker 6: the step.
[43:34] Speaker 1: You know what he does? He goes back.
[43:36] Speaker 3: No, no, no.
[43:36] Speaker 4: He puts them off.
[43:40] Speaker 1: He comes back between the legs and he goes to
[43:42] Speaker 1: the opposite side. He goes to the right.
[43:43] Speaker 3: Or he pushes it back and just stop right here
[43:45] Speaker 3: and shoot a fucking regular jump shot like everybody else. Like, boom.
[43:49] Speaker 4: That step back was like, oh, shit.
[43:51] Speaker 1: Yeah, oh, I got you now.
[43:52] Speaker 3: I can do whatever.
[43:53] Speaker 1: I can do some jumping jacks.
[43:56] Speaker 2: So you guys talked about Tatum. Let's talk about him
[43:58] Speaker 2: for a second and the impressive season that he's having
[44:00] Speaker 2: so far with or without the three-point line. So Tatum
[44:03] Speaker 2: leading the league in total points, has the most 30-point
[44:06] Speaker 2: game this season, and has the most games with five-plus threes.
[44:10] Speaker 2: He's averaging 30 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists on 46-39-81
[44:15] Speaker 2: shooting splits, leading the Celtics in points, rebounds, and assists
[44:20] Speaker 2: per game this season.
[44:21] Speaker 1: Okay, JT.
[44:23] Speaker 2: Now, we saw the Olympics nubbing, the benching. We've seen
[44:26] Speaker 2: them trying to create a rift between Jalen Brown and Tatum.
[44:28] Speaker 2: Who's the number one option? Whose team is it? But
[44:30] Speaker 2: what statement has Jason Tatum made so far this season?
[44:37] Speaker 7: Should have played me in the Olympics.
[44:38] Speaker 3: We still got that gold medal. I understand that. USA.
[44:45] Speaker 2: USA is bigger than one man. I don't think he
[44:49] Speaker 2: made no statement. He hasn't made any statement so far
[44:51] Speaker 2: this year.
[44:52] Speaker 1: No, I think the media wants him to make a statement.
[44:55] Speaker 1: I think just this conversation of him making a statement is,
[44:59] Speaker 1: he's being consistent every year when it comes to the
[45:02] Speaker 1: first half of the season. That's why he's been where
[45:05] Speaker 1: he's been. His name is where he's at because he's
[45:07] Speaker 1: been getting 30 a game, 28 a game. That's the
[45:12] Speaker 1: consistent part of him. It's just when it's time to
[45:15] Speaker 1: get it done, can he get it done?
[45:17] Speaker 2: That's the question. Postseason, you're saying?
[45:19] Speaker 3: Yeah, postseason.
[45:20] Speaker 1: It ain't never Jason Tatum has almost been an MVP
[45:23] Speaker 1: for him.
[45:25] Speaker 2: Led the Celtics' points rebound assist in the postseason as well, though, right?
[45:28] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, so when you look at just performance-wise,
[45:31] Speaker 1: I mean, he got the tool set. It's just... Fuck
[45:34] Speaker 1: the haters.
[45:36] Speaker 7: Maybe he's not outwardly trying to make a statement, but
[45:45] Speaker 7: he is making a statement.
[45:48] Speaker 6: And even if it's not to the Olympic team or whatever,
[45:52] Speaker 6: but he is making a statement of I am the man.
[45:56] Speaker 4: He is.
[46:01] Speaker 1: I see your face right now.
[46:04] Speaker 4: What is it for?
[46:05] Speaker 3: Not impressed?
[46:06] Speaker 2: Nothing has changed.
[46:08] Speaker 3: We.
[46:13] Speaker 3: I feel bad for this... I feel bad for this
[46:16] Speaker 3: generation and the generations moving forward. The reason is this.
[46:23] Speaker 3: You penalize someone for getting somewhere and failing. You will
[46:31] Speaker 3: penalize that guy, but the guy who didn't get there...
[46:35] Speaker 3: there's no grade on him, right? Now, if you go
[46:41] Speaker 3: by someone who got to the finals, how many times?
[46:46] Speaker 2: I believe twice in his career. Twice in his, yeah. Yeah,
[46:50] Speaker 2: loss to the Warriors, 2022, obviously won it this past season.
[46:53] Speaker 3: So he's been to the Eastern Conference finals. Five, six times.
[46:58] Speaker 3: They penalize him for losing, right?
[47:01] Speaker 1: Right.
[47:02] Speaker 3: He gets to the finals twice. They penalize him for losing.
[47:05] Speaker 3: And then you pump a bunch of guys up who
[47:09] Speaker 3: never even been there at that same timeframe. So when
[47:14] Speaker 3: you got there, when your team was ready, when your
[47:17] Speaker 3: team was good enough to be a champion and you won,
[47:22] Speaker 3: you get credit for it.
[47:25] Speaker 1: Right?
[47:26] Speaker 3: Now, his talent... Got him there. His team wasn't ready
[47:30] Speaker 3: to win. His team was young. You penalized the young
[47:34] Speaker 3: guys for being good and winning early. That's not, how's
[47:38] Speaker 3: that fair? Now you penalize a guy for getting to
[47:43] Speaker 3: the finals at 19? Why didn't you win? Oh, man. Motherfucker,
[47:50] Speaker 3: I come off the bench. Like, I'll be you. You're
[47:51] Speaker 3: penalizing guys who's not. Like, these guys are 20. Like,
[47:55] Speaker 3: if Shea gets there now with the team, you're going
[47:57] Speaker 3: to penalize him for losing to a veteran team? You
[48:01] Speaker 3: can't do that, man. It has to be context in
[48:07] Speaker 3: some of this stuff. So he's penalized for, at the
[48:11] Speaker 3: age of 26, he's penalized for having success.
[48:16] Speaker 2: Five Eastern Conference Finals appearances so far, two Finals appearances
[48:19] Speaker 2: so far in his career.
[48:20] Speaker 1: But see, that's the dynamic. What do you mean penalized?
[48:22] Speaker 3: Penalized, like, oh, he don't have it, he's not this,
[48:25] Speaker 3: he's not that.
[48:26] Speaker 4: Like Jason Tatum.
[48:27] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[48:29] Speaker 4: Like the media is penalizing him?
[48:31] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[48:32] Speaker 3: No, I just think... What he's doing right now is
[48:34] Speaker 3: no different than what he's done for the last four years.
[48:37] Speaker 1: The definition of winner and loser is what's penalizing him.
[48:42] Speaker 2: Because all the stuff... He's not a winner?
[48:45] Speaker 1: All the stuff you're talking about coming to him being
[48:48] Speaker 1: second place so many years. He finally got first place
[48:52] Speaker 1: last year. You don't get rewarded for second place. So
[48:57] Speaker 1: he don't get no credit for being young and winning
[49:00] Speaker 1: early when you didn't win anything.
[49:02] Speaker 3: You got there.
[49:04] Speaker 1: See, kudos. Because you know who else got there? There's
[49:07] Speaker 1: a lot of other guys got there that we don't
[49:09] Speaker 1: talk about that don't get credit for not winning, for
[49:12] Speaker 1: being second place. So it really don't matter until you win.
[49:16] Speaker 1: Now that you've won, you're showing us that it matters.
[49:18] Speaker 1: You're showing us that, look, we win. because I'm good,
[49:21] Speaker 1: but all that other winning shit before time, it's like
[49:24] Speaker 1: you was losing.
[49:24] Speaker 2: But you win last season, but you don't win Eastern
[49:27] Speaker 2: Conference Finals MVP that goes to Jalen Brown.
[49:29] Speaker 3: No, man, no, y'all can't. You can't do that. I'm just... No,
[49:32] Speaker 3: what I'm saying is you can't do that. You can't
[49:34] Speaker 3: say that you came in second place, you're a loser,
[49:38] Speaker 3: but then.
[49:40] Speaker 3: My same time frame.
[49:41] Speaker 1: I'm saying you came in second place. You're not the champion. Cool.
[49:45] Speaker 1: You're not the ultimate winner.
[49:46] Speaker 4: But if you didn't win, you are a loser.
[49:49] Speaker 3: Okay, but cool. No, no, no. I get that.
[49:52] Speaker 1: Put it on a t-shirt.
[49:53] Speaker 3: I get that. But my six years, I came in, what,
[49:58] Speaker 3: third place four times. I came in second place once.
[50:03] Speaker 3: What's the name? Now, I got a guy, his first
[50:05] Speaker 3: six years, he didn't even make it to this bitch.
[50:08] Speaker 3: He didn't even make it. He don't even have a
[50:10] Speaker 3: first place, nothing. And then he gets to the championship
[50:14] Speaker 3: his first time at 28, wins the championship. Now his
[50:18] Speaker 3: legacy is better than mine.
[50:19] Speaker 1: Y'all was on the same level the whole time because
[50:21] Speaker 1: y'all both was losing.
[50:23] Speaker 3: That doesn't... How does that work?
[50:25] Speaker 1: Because there's only one winner.
[50:26] Speaker 3: But how does that work? Because that's sports, though. The
[50:30] Speaker 3: same age, I'm in second place, you're in last.
[50:32] Speaker 4: But that's sports.
[50:33] Speaker 3: Second place last. Second place last.
[50:35] Speaker 1: But that's why you always have a chance. That's why
[50:37] Speaker 1: I've been saying it. This is last place.
[50:38] Speaker 3: You always got a chance.
[50:39] Speaker 1: If I'm last place and I play first place, he
[50:42] Speaker 1: decides not to show up and play that night... And
[50:44] Speaker 1: we win. Guess who won?
[50:46] Speaker 3: Man, I'm not supposed to win. But my legacy is
[50:51] Speaker 3: being pushed behind a dude who got there. He's one
[50:53] Speaker 3: for one. We played eight years. He's one for one
[50:57] Speaker 3: in the championship.
[50:58] Speaker 1: Buster Douglas' legacy is I knocked Mike Tyson out on
[51:01] Speaker 1: one night where he fucked up. He made my legacy.
[51:05] Speaker 1: Thank you, Mike. You can't fuck up.
[51:08] Speaker 3: You can't be second place and won't... Everybody's got second
[51:12] Speaker 3: place with losers, all right?
[51:13] Speaker 1: You can't be second place and want first place reward.
[51:15] Speaker 3: No, I don't care about first place reward. How is
[51:20] Speaker 3: the person who didn't even get there in his time
[51:23] Speaker 3: frame get rewarded when he do get there and win?
[51:26] Speaker 1: Because he get there.
[51:27] Speaker 3: That's why.
[51:27] Speaker 1: It ain't got nothing to do with time frame.
[51:29] Speaker 4: No, that part I agree with. Like, is it fair?
[51:33] Speaker 3: No. But it's the rules.
[51:37] Speaker 4: It's reality.
[51:38] Speaker 3: The reality is you was a loser. Reality, your first
[51:43] Speaker 3: six years, you was a loser.
[51:45] Speaker 1: Like, you was literally a loser.
[51:47] Speaker 3: But because you never got there, no one graded you.
[51:50] Speaker 3: You get no grade.
[51:50] Speaker 1: Michael Jordan got graded for the first six years. No,
[51:52] Speaker 1: he didn't. Yes, he did.
[51:53] Speaker 3: No, he didn't.
[51:54] Speaker 1: He was a loser. No, he didn't.
[51:55] Speaker 3: He was a loser. No one talks about Jordan's.
[51:59] Speaker 1: First six years.
[52:00] Speaker 3: No, we do. They pretend he didn't even play basketball then.
[52:02] Speaker 1: We do all the time.
[52:03] Speaker 4: They say he didn't win.
[52:04] Speaker 3: He didn't win.
[52:05] Speaker 6: But the reason why they don't talk about what he
[52:06] Speaker 6: didn't do is because of what he did.
[52:08] Speaker 1: Because what he did, I'll sign it. What he did,
[52:11] Speaker 1: I'll sign what he didn't do.
[52:12] Speaker 3: Because what I'm saying is at the age where you're penalizing,
[52:15] Speaker 3: you're penalizing the Tatums. Like right now, if we say,
[52:18] Speaker 3: all right, Tatum, from this age to this age, compare
[52:21] Speaker 3: you to Michael Jordan. In reality, there shouldn't be no
[52:26] Speaker 3: comparisons then. Because Jason Tatum has a championship.
[52:31] Speaker 1: In his seventh year. At a younger age.
[52:33] Speaker 3: At his age. He's 26 with a championship. Michael Jordan
[52:35] Speaker 3: didn't have a championship at 26. See, so in theory,
[52:39] Speaker 3: if you stop everybody at their age as they compare
[52:43] Speaker 3: them to the greats, it'd be a different fucking look.
[52:45] Speaker 3: But nobody wants to do that.
[52:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, because back then it wasn't letting motherfuckers come out
[52:49] Speaker 1: there after their first year in high school. It's an
[52:51] Speaker 1: age difference for a reason. It was for a reason.
[52:54] Speaker 3: Magic.
[52:54] Speaker 1: That's the reason. Magic. And you're holding that against the conversation. Magic.
[53:00] Speaker 5: Technically.
[53:00] Speaker 1: It's the conversation we're having.
[53:02] Speaker 3: Be honest.
[53:02] Speaker 1: You're having an age conversation from back in the day
[53:05] Speaker 1: where they didn't have that conversation. You're saying one guy.
[53:08] Speaker 3: That's not a strong enough conversation.
[53:11] Speaker 1: The judge is going guilty. It ain't enough.
[53:17] Speaker 3: Guilty. In reality, the most dominant player from before the
[53:26] Speaker 3: age of 30 would, it should be Magic and Colb.
[53:32] Speaker 3: When it comes to just dominance, right? Magic had, what,
[53:36] Speaker 3: five rings before the age of 30.
[53:37] Speaker 2: Right?
[53:39] Speaker 3: Colb damn near had, what, four?
[53:41] Speaker 1: Magic won. Colb won. Jason Tatum did not.
[53:46] Speaker 3: He got one.
[53:47] Speaker 1: When? 26.
[53:49] Speaker 3: 26.
[53:50] Speaker 2: At 25.
[53:51] Speaker 1: How long has he been in the league? Since he
[53:53] Speaker 1: was what age?
[53:55] Speaker 3: So you penalize him for being good enough to get
[53:58] Speaker 3: in at 18 while your ass is still in high school? Yeah.
[54:01] Speaker 3: How do you penalize him for that?
[54:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, because he's here. Like, how do you penalize him?
[54:05] Speaker 1: Like you're saying, Bronny, you don't have to go to college.
[54:08] Speaker 1: Just learn from your dad, and you'll be good enough.
[54:10] Speaker 3: While you're here.
[54:11] Speaker 1: Jason Tatum, one year at Duke is all you need.
[54:14] Speaker 1: You'll learn while you're here. All right, you've been learning.
[54:16] Speaker 1: What'd you learn?
[54:18] Speaker 2: How to get to five Easter conference points?
[54:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a little bit harder than it looks, right?
[54:22] Speaker 1: It's a little bit harder than it looks, right? Why
[54:24] Speaker 1: would we give you credit for making it difficult on you? Like,
[54:28] Speaker 1: it's difficult to win. It's difficult.
[54:31] Speaker 3: Like this, like this.
[54:31] Speaker 1: You don't get credit for losing.
[54:33] Speaker 3: Like this. LeBron James, right? He went to the finals
[54:37] Speaker 3: at 22.
[54:38] Speaker 1: 22 years old.
[54:39] Speaker 3: 22. They mocked him for getting swept at 22 to
[54:42] Speaker 3: Tim Duncan.
[54:43] Speaker 2: The hardest sweep in NBA history. Who mocked him, though?
[54:46] Speaker 3: The world mocked him. You got swept. I thought you
[54:48] Speaker 3: were supposed to be the chosen one when his comparison
[54:53] Speaker 3: just got drafted. That's the reality of it, though. So
[55:00] Speaker 3: you're penalizing a guy for getting somewhere at a young
[55:06] Speaker 3: age even when he's not developed to win. He's not
[55:08] Speaker 3: ready to win. If Wimby gets to the championship and
[55:11] Speaker 3: lose 4-0, there's nothing against his legacy. You're not even
[55:16] Speaker 3: old enough mentally to win yet.
[55:18] Speaker 2: But how are we penalizing him?
[55:19] Speaker 3: You do.
[55:20] Speaker 1: What is the penalty? He's getting the credit. He's all NBA.
[55:24] Speaker 1: He's an all-star. He's on the best team in the NBA.
[55:26] Speaker 1: What more credit do you want?
[55:28] Speaker 3: But five Eastern Conference Finals in his first seven seasons.
[55:32] Speaker 1: What penalties? That's not impressive. Is he not getting all
[55:36] Speaker 1: the awards? Are you trying to Beyonce it? You got
[55:38] Speaker 1: to give him all the awards. No, the narrative is
[55:42] Speaker 1: he's country, too.
[55:44] Speaker 3: The narrative is he can't do it as a number
[55:48] Speaker 3: one option.
[55:51] Speaker 1: That was a good narrative. How's that a good narrative?
[55:53] Speaker 3: Because they didn't do it.
[55:54] Speaker 1: Because they didn't do it with him as a number
[55:56] Speaker 1: one option. That narrative shifted. That's why they gave the
[55:59] Speaker 1: MVP to the other guy.
[56:01] Speaker 3: But what I'm saying is his comparison across the board,
[56:06] Speaker 3: when they won the championship and they were the number
[56:08] Speaker 3: one guy, what age were these guys? You got to
[56:12] Speaker 3: put everything in perspective.
[56:14] Speaker 1: You can't say a 20... Age doesn't put it in perspective.
[56:19] Speaker 3: You can't say a 19, 20, 23-year-old can't win a
[56:22] Speaker 3: championship being the number one option, but it's comparisons. They
[56:26] Speaker 3: won championships at 27, 28, 29. like they matured to
[56:31] Speaker 3: win this he hasn't got through his shit yet so
[56:34] Speaker 3: he's he's taking l's early yeah but you can't say
[56:36] Speaker 3: he oh he can't win as the number one option
[56:38] Speaker 3: he hasn't defined his game yet.
[56:40] Speaker 1: Yeah that's what we've been trying to say about donovan
[56:42] Speaker 1: mitchell but y'all don't want to have that conversation anybody
[56:47] Speaker 1: i'm The conversation you're having about Tatum, if you can't win,
[56:50] Speaker 1: that's the number one option. They say that about Donovan Mitchell.
[56:53] Speaker 1: They say that about, there's a lot of people who
[56:56] Speaker 1: they say that about, but if you can't get it
[56:58] Speaker 1: done as a number one option, it must be true.
[57:01] Speaker 3: But who did at certain ages?
[57:03] Speaker 1: If that's your only argument.
[57:05] Speaker 3: That is the only argument.
[57:07] Speaker 1: I don't want to have an argument because the age
[57:09] Speaker 1: don't matter, get it done or not. Magic Johnson got
[57:12] Speaker 1: it done at 19, didn't he?
[57:13] Speaker 3: But he wasn't number one option.
[57:14] Speaker 1: All right. Now, you going to give me another excuse?
[57:15] Speaker 1: Give me another but. Give me another but. Give me
[57:18] Speaker 1: another goal. You said number one option. But he was young, though, right?
[57:22] Speaker 3: But you said the number one option. He wasn't number
[57:24] Speaker 3: one option.
[57:24] Speaker 2: Who was the number one option in the finals?
[57:28] Speaker 3: Thank you.
[57:29] Speaker 1: All right. You don't want to go here with me
[57:30] Speaker 1: because Kareem didn't play in the finals.
[57:32] Speaker 3: He didn't play in the final game. He played in
[57:35] Speaker 3: the finals. Do you want his numbers in the finals?
[57:38] Speaker 3: Do you need his numbers in the finals? He just
[57:41] Speaker 3: missed the last game. Who was the MVP? Do you
[57:43] Speaker 3: need his numbers? Who was the MVP? Do you need
[57:45] Speaker 3: his numbers?
[57:46] Speaker 2: Who was the MVP?
[57:47] Speaker 3: Do you need his numbers? Was Magic Johnson the MVP? Yes.
[57:49] Speaker 1: Okay.
[57:50] Speaker 3: Because he didn't play in the last game. Read his
[57:51] Speaker 3: numbers in the finals.
[57:52] Speaker 2: 33.4 points.
[57:53] Speaker 3: Say that. Say it again. 33 points, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks.
[57:59] Speaker 2: In 5 games in the 1980 NBA Finals. Who was
[58:00] Speaker 2: the MVP?
[58:00] Speaker 3: Who was the MVP? Urban Magic Johnson. All right.
[58:03] Speaker 2: Thank you very much.
[58:04] Speaker 4: Who's the Celtics?
[58:05] Speaker 1: The Boston Celtics won. Who was the MVP?
[58:09] Speaker 3: Who?
[58:10] Speaker 1: Recently. Don't get, don't.
[58:11] Speaker 3: Oh, get him, Nisha. You're on the, you're on hot seat.
[58:14] Speaker 3: You gotta answer quickly.
[58:16] Speaker 1: Who?
[58:17] Speaker 2: Jason Tatum's teammate, Jalen Brown.
[58:19] Speaker 1: Jalen Brown.
[58:19] Speaker 2: Thank you very much. Thank you very much.
[58:22] Speaker 3: Who is the youngest?
[58:23] Speaker 1: Who is the youngest? Who is the youngest champion that
[58:25] Speaker 1: was the number one option?
[58:26] Speaker 3: Can we find that out? The youngest NBA champion as
[58:28] Speaker 3: the number one option.
[58:28] Speaker 1: Will it be Tim Duncan? Probably Tim Duncan.
[58:30] Speaker 3: Probably Tim Duncan? No.
[58:48] Speaker 2: We will research, but I want to give you Magic's
[58:50] Speaker 2: 1980 NBA Finals stats.
[58:51] Speaker 1: 24?
[58:51] Speaker 3: 23?
[58:51] Speaker 2: Magic averaged 22, 11, and 9 assists in those 1980
[58:52] Speaker 2: NBA Finals. Magic averaged 22, 11, 9 assists in the
[58:53] Speaker 2: 1980 NBA Finals. Kareem averaged 33, 14, and 5 blocks.
[58:55] Speaker 3: One less game, though.
[58:56] Speaker 1: One less game.
[59:00] Speaker 2: Magic average, 22-11, nine assists in the 1980 NBA Finals.
[59:04] Speaker 2: Kareem averaged 33-14 in five blocks. One less game, though.
[59:09] Speaker 3: One less game.
[59:09] Speaker 2: That's a deal with finals. The MVP obviously had that.
[59:12] Speaker 3: And that 22-a-game, all that in heightened, because how much
[59:15] Speaker 3: did Magic have in the last game to help boost it?
[59:18] Speaker 2: Like 42-15.
[59:19] Speaker 3: Okay, okay.
[59:19] Speaker 2: Something around there.
[59:20] Speaker 3: It boosted it up. Okay, got it. I remember.
[59:23] Speaker 1: 42-15-7. Three steals, too.
[59:28] Speaker 3: Just saying, you can't... So, yeah, so... Yeah, so Duncan
[59:33] Speaker 3: won one at 22. He was the number one option, right?
[59:36] Speaker 2: Yes.
[59:37] Speaker 4: So he was the youngest?
[59:38] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[59:39] Speaker 3: I mean, he would be. You got to think about... Yeah,
[59:41] Speaker 3: he would be one of the youngest that probably won
[59:44] Speaker 3: a championship being the number one option, yeah?
[59:46] Speaker 2: So we asked the chat, is Tatum the frontrunner for MVP?
[59:50] Speaker 2: More than 2,000 votes. 54% said no. 54% said no.
[59:54] Speaker 2: Joker's still doing the same.
[59:56] Speaker 3: Missed a couple games. I understand that. That's what I'm saying, man.
[59:58] Speaker 3: Anthony Marshawn Davis. Once you get that tag... The NBA
[1:00:01] Speaker 3: Cup championship. It's like they tag you as something, and
[1:00:04] Speaker 3: then they really believe the tag. That's the problem. Like,
[1:00:07] Speaker 3: you would rather not... Like, Luka, you got to the championship.
[1:00:10] Speaker 3: Your team wasn't good enough to win. You get tagged.
[1:00:13] Speaker 3: You get tagged right now.
[1:00:14] Speaker 2: They still call him Fluka.
[1:00:16] Speaker 3: Yeah, you get tagged.
[1:00:17] Speaker 1: It goes.
[1:00:17] Speaker 3: It's the strike. You'd rather not get there. Like, it's
[1:00:20] Speaker 3: one of those things that you'd rather not get there
[1:00:23] Speaker 3: until your team is ready to win. No.
[1:00:25] Speaker 1: The challenge is... Don't doubt me.
[1:00:29] Speaker 3: Be about me. If you doubt, don't doubt me.
[1:00:33] Speaker 1: Be about me. Man, I'm going to get there.
[1:00:37] Speaker 3: Watch me. Watch me.
[1:00:39] Speaker 1: I don't need no handouts.
[1:00:43] Speaker 3: Huh. That's interesting.
[1:00:45] Speaker 2: What y'all over there being secretive about? We got a
[1:00:49] Speaker 2: big turkey in the background.
[1:00:51] Speaker 3: Thanksgiving around the corner.
[1:00:55] Speaker 2: Wait a minute. What you got over here? He's going
[1:00:57] Speaker 2: to make me use this.
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: What's that, the Rick and Morty?
[1:01:00] Speaker 3: Uh-oh.
[1:01:01] Speaker 2: The official.
[1:01:02] Speaker 7: Uh-oh.
[1:01:03] Speaker 2: He's going to make me use it.
[1:01:04] Speaker 1: Zappy. No. Because, you know, if you use this, it
[1:01:08] Speaker 1: alters all different universes and all kinds of shit.
[1:01:11] Speaker 3: All right. Got to be cautious.
[1:01:13] Speaker 2: But let's keep this thing moving. Keep this thing moving.
[1:01:15] Speaker 2: Football and basketball are in full swing.
[1:01:18] Speaker 3: Say that again? That's what?
[1:01:19] Speaker 4: No, it's impressive. His numbers are impressive.
[1:01:21] Speaker 3: And he gets treated like he's just second fiddle.
[1:01:24] Speaker 1: He gets treated like a light-skinned brother with privilege.
[1:01:28] Speaker 3: It is an unfortunate time.
[1:01:29] Speaker 1: What?
[1:01:30] Speaker 3: No, he don't.
[1:01:30] Speaker 2: Yes, he does. He gets treated like a light-skinned brother
[1:01:33] Speaker 2: with privilege.
[1:01:36] Speaker 1: He is Steph Curry's little cousin. He's waiting in line. Oh,
[1:01:39] Speaker 1: he would have had MVPs by now. He's waiting in line. Mommy,
[1:01:42] Speaker 1: I'm next.
[1:01:43] Speaker 3: Wow. Well, let's keep it moving. We got a lot
[1:01:46] Speaker 3: more to talk about.
[1:01:46] Speaker 1: You see Jalen Brown over there mad.
[1:01:47] Speaker 2: I'm going to push him down the steps tomorrow. We
[1:01:49] Speaker 2: got some more important basketball topics to discuss.
[1:01:52] Speaker 3: But football and basketball are in full swing.
[1:01:53] Speaker 2: That's why I need to tell you about our special

[1:02:30] Speaker 3: I'm done. What happened? I'm done. What happened? I'm done.
[1:02:32] Speaker 1: What'd you discover?
[1:02:33] Speaker 3: I'm done. Okay, uh-oh. I'm just getting drunk.
[1:02:39] Speaker 1: I'm done.
[1:02:40] Speaker 3: I'm done. I'm officially done with all awards.
[1:02:47] Speaker 2: Why are you officially done with all awards, Gil?
[1:02:48] Speaker 3: I had to... Okay, so they have the MVP award
[1:03:03] Speaker 3: tracker right now, right? Yes, they do. Have y'all looked
[1:03:07] Speaker 3: at that?
[1:03:09] Speaker 2: I don't support square media generally.
[1:03:11] Speaker 7: Okay.
[1:03:13] Speaker 3: Jason Tatum. They got him at one. Okay. Anthony Davis
[1:03:18] Speaker 3: at two. Anthony Marshawn Davis. Shea at three. Now, four
[1:03:27] Speaker 3: is the problem I'm having right now. Four is the
[1:03:30] Speaker 3: Cleveland Cavaliers guy, right? He's one of your own.
[1:03:36] Speaker 2: Shout out to our resident captain. But it's the fourth option.
[1:03:42] Speaker 2: The fourth option is four. Who is the fourth option?
[1:03:45] Speaker 3: Who do you think is the fourth option on the team? Okay,
[1:03:48] Speaker 3: who's the fifth option then? Jared Allen. Yes. They have
[1:03:55] Speaker 3: Jared Allen at fourth. For MVP... I don't... Hold on
[1:04:02] Speaker 3: a second, let me.
[1:04:02] Speaker 1: It's not the cap.
[1:04:04] Speaker 3: He's on the basketball reference here.
[1:04:07] Speaker 2: That's basketball reference, but you can't.
[1:04:08] Speaker 3: I don't give a shit. I don't care what reference
[1:04:12] Speaker 3: it is. You're talking about.
[1:04:15] Speaker 3: Garland at eight, Donovan at nine, and Jared Allen at four?
[1:04:20] Speaker 3: I don't think.
[1:04:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, because according to the NBA, I think this was
[1:04:23] Speaker 2: a couple of days ago, but they have Joker, Tatum, KD, SGA,
[1:04:27] Speaker 2: Anthony Davis... With Steph, Giannis, Luka, Donovan Mitchell, LeBron rounding
[1:04:31] Speaker 2: out the team.
[1:04:31] Speaker 3: Okay. I'm just letting you know. All right. Whoever cited
[1:04:33] Speaker 3: this edition be banned.
[1:04:35] Speaker 2: This was from November 15th.
[1:04:36] Speaker 3: No, no. Whoever did this should be banned. What is this? Basketball. Basketball.
[1:04:42] Speaker 3: Just cut the account off.
[1:04:43] Speaker 2: Trash.
[1:04:44] Speaker 3: A great website. Just cut it off. This ain't even.
[1:04:47] Speaker 2: Pervader of important statistics, both near and far. But I'm
[1:04:53] Speaker 2: going to talk about something that's going.
[1:04:54] Speaker 3: To brighten your mood, Gil.
[1:04:55] Speaker 1: All right.
[1:04:57] Speaker 2: Defending NBA.
[1:04:59] Speaker 2: Cup World Champions of the World Lakers were back in
[1:05:02] Speaker 2: action Tuesday against the Jazz. And after dropping 27 on
[1:05:05] Speaker 2: the Pelicans, the Westside Connect gang continued to bing, bing, bang.
[1:05:09] Speaker 2: All right, so Dalton Connect dropped a new career high,
[1:05:13] Speaker 2: 37 points, going 12 for 16 from the field, 9
[1:05:16] Speaker 2: for 12 from deep. Connect tied a rookie record with
[1:05:19] Speaker 2: nine threes in the game, including a stretch late in
[1:05:22] Speaker 2: the third and early in the fourth quarter where he
[1:05:25] Speaker 2: hit six threes in a little over four minutes of
[1:05:26] Speaker 2: game action. Scored 22 straight points for the Los Angeles Lakers.
[1:05:33] Speaker 2: He also scored 21 of his 37 points in the
[1:05:35] Speaker 2: third quarter. Connect has made 14 threes in his last
[1:05:39] Speaker 2: two games, which is an NBA record for a rookie.
[1:05:42] Speaker 3: He wasn't the only one cooking, though, obviously.
[1:05:44] Speaker 2: AD had 26 points, 14 boards, and 6 assists. Was
[1:05:47] Speaker 2: 10 for 15 from the field. And LeBron added 26
[1:05:50] Speaker 2: and 12 dimes as the Lakers beat a gritty, very
[1:05:54] Speaker 2: gritty Jazz squad. Forced to live in Salt Lake City.
[1:05:59] Speaker 2: They get more grittier than that. Improved to 10-4 on
[1:06:03] Speaker 2: the season. Lakers got their sixth straight win, improved to
[1:06:06] Speaker 2: 2-0 in the NBA Cup. As you may recall, they
[1:06:09] Speaker 2: won the NBA Cup World Championship last season, the hardest
[1:06:13] Speaker 2: NBA Cup in league history. After the game, both Bron
[1:06:16] Speaker 2: and A.D.
[1:06:17] Speaker 3: Showed love to their rook. What did you see then?
[1:06:22] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[1:06:30] Speaker 5: Same shit I said last year. Everybody on the internet
[1:06:33] Speaker 5: called me a liar all the time.
[1:06:35] Speaker 3: So, what am I now?
[1:06:40] Speaker 5: I've been seven. I watched him. I watched Tennessee a lot.
[1:06:43] Speaker 5: I watched Tennessee a lot. I did not think he
[1:06:45] Speaker 5: was going to fall to us. I thought it would
[1:06:47] Speaker 5: be impossible. I have no idea how that happened. But
[1:06:51] Speaker 5: I'm very grateful and very happy that he's here. I
[1:06:55] Speaker 5: knew exactly what he was getting when he fell to 17.
[1:06:59] Speaker 1: They didn't find DK.
[1:07:01] Speaker 3: The other 16 teams fucked it up. Did anybody watch them?
[1:07:11] Speaker 1: Shit, they just didn't fuck it up.
[1:07:15] Speaker 2: So AD posted this story on his IG as well, saluting. Connect,
[1:07:21] Speaker 2: he said, I give you my crown as the best
[1:07:23] Speaker 2: Uter on the team, Rook. Uter, obviously a shortened version
[1:07:27] Speaker 2: of Shooter. with Dalton Connect. And this is what Jazz
[1:07:32] Speaker 2: head coach Will Hardy had to say about Connect's third
[1:07:35] Speaker 2: quarter run. It seemed.
[1:07:39] Speaker 5: Like everybody in the gym knew that Dalton Connect was
[1:07:42] Speaker 5: going to shoot the next shot with the exception of
[1:07:44] Speaker 5: a few people.
[1:07:48] Speaker 3: The problem was that those few people were on our team.
[1:07:58] Speaker 3: He chose violence.
[1:07:59] Speaker 2: Connect just started four games this season, including the last
[1:08:02] Speaker 2: three games with Rui Hachimor sideline. In those last three games,
[1:08:05] Speaker 2: he's averaged a 26.5 rebounds and a steal with 64-62-86
[1:08:11] Speaker 2: shooting splits. So I'm going to take it over to
[1:08:13] Speaker 2: our resident Lakers fan, Mr. Gilbert Arenas. Rocking the custom
[1:08:18] Speaker 2: brownie jersey with the Adidas logo. You can't get that
[1:08:20] Speaker 2: in stores. How impressive has Dalton Connect been in the
[1:08:23] Speaker 2: last three games, and has he solidified himself as a
[1:08:26] Speaker 2: starter on this Lakers squad?
[1:08:30] Speaker 3: He's been, you know, so funny. Um, with the 17th
[1:08:35] Speaker 3: pick for the Lakers, there was really only two people
[1:08:38] Speaker 3: that they could have went after. That would have been
[1:08:40] Speaker 3: an amazing draft for them. And it was him or Edie, right?
[1:08:46] Speaker 3: Backup center, a veteran guy who can play.
[1:08:49] Speaker 2: And Edie, we know.
[1:08:50] Speaker 3: Same thing with connect, right? Uh, what I, what I
[1:08:53] Speaker 3: said then is when you're, when you're older guy, you
[1:08:56] Speaker 3: have to be ready now, which he is. Um, When
[1:09:03] Speaker 3: you look at the draft and you wonder why he slipped,
[1:09:06] Speaker 3: which he was supposed to be a lottery, right? He
[1:09:09] Speaker 3: was supposed to be a lottery. His talent is a
[1:09:10] Speaker 3: lottery in Tennessee. And you wonder why Spurs didn't pick him.
[1:09:17] Speaker 3: They didn't have two picks. Jazz, I mean, Bulls, like,
[1:09:22] Speaker 3: you're talking about teams that needed small forwards. Pistons, I mean,
[1:09:29] Speaker 3: I don't know how young they were going, but a
[1:09:33] Speaker 3: lot of teams messed up, you know, so it was,
[1:09:36] Speaker 3: we're glad we have him, right? He should be starting.
[1:09:39] Speaker 3: He's probably going to be a starter, right? Even if
[1:09:42] Speaker 3: we put D'Lo back, I don't know if he comes
[1:09:46] Speaker 3: off the bench.
[1:09:48] Speaker 6: Hmm.
[1:09:49] Speaker 1: So who comes off the bench then?
[1:09:51] Speaker 3: All right. Listen, at this point, it's one of those
[1:09:56] Speaker 3: things where either Austin Reeves or Rui. Reeves, then Ball.
[1:10:03] Speaker 2: Reeves, then Ball.
[1:10:03] Speaker 3: No, what I'm saying is if you decide to put
[1:10:05] Speaker 3: D'Lo back in.
[1:10:06] Speaker 2: I think this D'Lo experiment coming off the bench has
[1:10:09] Speaker 2: worked so far. Lakers 10-4.
[1:10:11] Speaker 3: I'm just telling you. Give me Austin Reeves stats.
[1:10:15] Speaker 2: For the season?
[1:10:16] Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
[1:10:19] Speaker 3: I don't mind him at the one and two because,
[1:10:22] Speaker 3: you know, since LeBron is.
[1:10:24] Speaker 2: Austin Reeves averaging 18, five assists, four rebounds.
[1:10:26] Speaker 7: He's the one, two, three, four.
[1:10:28] Speaker 3: Yeah, so those are the two starters. But that's what
[1:10:31] Speaker 3: I said. Exciting whites. If you bring D'Lo back, you
[1:10:34] Speaker 3: just push Rui to the bench. When it comes to production-wise.
[1:10:39] Speaker 1: It seems to me that the Lakers only get excited
[1:10:42] Speaker 1: when they start to see value in that which they ignore.
[1:10:46] Speaker 2: You felt like they ignored Dalton Kinnick?
[1:10:48] Speaker 3: Absolutely. How?
[1:10:49] Speaker 1: So the fact that you got to play him and
[1:10:51] Speaker 1: he has to perform, you're waiting for him not to perform,
[1:10:54] Speaker 1: so he can be like one of those draft picks where,
[1:10:58] Speaker 1: you know, we.
[1:10:58] Speaker 2: Gave him an opportunity, he didn't pan out.
[1:11:01] Speaker 3: Right.
[1:11:01] Speaker 1: But Dalton Kinnick is one of those guys that showed
[1:11:04] Speaker 1: up like, hey, I'm going to show y'all. Everybody's saying
[1:11:08] Speaker 1: they watched him now and it was this, it was that,
[1:11:10] Speaker 1: but it's the energy coming out because he's playing good. Yeah.
[1:11:13] Speaker 3: Right?
[1:11:13] Speaker 1: The same thing happened with Austin Reeves. When he started
[1:11:18] Speaker 1: to play well, all of a sudden, it's like, we.
[1:11:20] Speaker 3: Never seen a white boy play like this. He deserves
[1:11:23] Speaker 3: to be in the starting lineup.
[1:11:25] Speaker 1: And then you start hearing, MVP. Because the Lakers were
[1:11:28] Speaker 1: so desperate for something other than the two guys they
[1:11:31] Speaker 1: got out there. Now they got somebody else out there.
[1:11:35] Speaker 1: Now they got somebody else out there. That's actually hooping.
[1:11:39] Speaker 3: It look good.
[1:11:40] Speaker 1: We need to put them in here and put them in.
[1:11:41] Speaker 3: You know we drafted them, right?
[1:11:43] Speaker 1: It's not like.
[1:11:44] Speaker 3: I know y'all didn't want... No, it's not like you
[1:11:46] Speaker 3: just picked this motherfucker up on the side of the road.
[1:11:49] Speaker 1: We know where you wanted to pick 17.
[1:11:50] Speaker 3: You just couldn't.
[1:11:52] Speaker 1: We would all go crazy if you picked that boy
[1:11:54] Speaker 1: at 17.
[1:11:55] Speaker 3: But why.
[1:11:57] Speaker 2: I pick a person at 17 where you can grab
[1:11:59] Speaker 2: them at 55 and they can be.
[1:12:00] Speaker 3: Who was going to pick... Sam.
[1:12:02] Speaker 2: The most marketable 55 pick in the history.
[1:12:03] Speaker 1: I'm just saying.
[1:12:05] Speaker 3: Who put that narrative out there? I don't know. ESPN
[1:12:11] Speaker 3: put a narrative that he was going to be picked
[1:12:13] Speaker 3: at 17, but the NBA did a draft for the
[1:12:16] Speaker 3: second day viewership because of one person.
[1:12:19] Speaker 1: Which means the whole world knew where he was going
[1:12:22] Speaker 1: to be drafted. It wasn't that.
[1:12:23] Speaker 3: It wasn't that.
[1:12:24] Speaker 1: It was that somebody leaked the fact that if you
[1:12:26] Speaker 1: draft Bronny, we're going to send him to Australia. That
[1:12:29] Speaker 1: was the thing.
[1:12:30] Speaker 3: A great country. That was the thing. I was like,
[1:12:32] Speaker 3: if you draft this.
[1:12:34] Speaker 1: Boy, we not showing up. We going to Australia.
[1:12:37] Speaker 3: That was the thing. Don't connect was just the, got somebody.
[1:12:43] Speaker 3: That was Phoenix Suns. We got somebody. If you draft,
[1:12:47] Speaker 3: if you draft, it was Phoenix Suns and Indiana. In
[1:12:51] Speaker 3: the second round. That was that.
[1:12:53] Speaker 1: In the second round.
[1:12:55] Speaker 2: Let's talk about the Lakers' first round pick, though. Obviously,
[1:12:58] Speaker 2: LeBron gets accused of being a liar all the time.
[1:13:00] Speaker 2: There is a clip of him back in April talking
[1:13:02] Speaker 2: about Connect and how much respect he had for his
[1:13:05] Speaker 2: game two months prior to the draft. Almost two and
[1:13:07] Speaker 2: a half months.
[1:13:09] Speaker 3: Man, we knew what we got. We got a lottery
[1:13:10] Speaker 3: pick at 17. We did. And I'm pretty sure if
[1:13:13] Speaker 3: Edie would have been at 17. We would have picked
[1:13:15] Speaker 3: him at 17, too. Like, we need players playing right now.
[1:13:19] Speaker 3: We already got a bunch of young kids. We got Hood.
[1:13:21] Speaker 1: Wait, wait, what did you say? We got Max Christie.
[1:13:25] Speaker 1: You said we need what?
[1:13:26] Speaker 3: Veterans. We need guys who are ready to play right now.
[1:13:30] Speaker 3: That's why we went with an older guy.
[1:13:32] Speaker 2: Sean, I see your face looking around.
[1:13:34] Speaker 4: How old is he?
[1:13:35] Speaker 3: Oh, 23?
[1:13:36] Speaker 1: I think the guy that would say we need to
[1:13:38] Speaker 1: go younger would say we need guys to play right now.
[1:13:41] Speaker 3: No, our team, like, we have a veteran team. We
[1:13:45] Speaker 3: don't need the young kids. Like, we have kids that's
[1:13:48] Speaker 3: young that ain't got... Opportunities so far some have gotten
[1:13:52] Speaker 3: opportunity like Chrissy ain't really got an opportunity hood ain't
[1:13:55] Speaker 3: really got opportunity So hood hood has got an opportunity.
[1:13:58] Speaker 1: Those are young guys, right? Yeah, those are young.
[1:14:00] Speaker 3: They came in at 19 Yeah, they should have scored college.
[1:14:02] Speaker 2: They have more career dogs to connect score 37 They
[1:14:04] Speaker 2: had plenty.
[1:14:05] Speaker 1: Of opportunity to play He ain't got no opportunity.
[1:14:11] Speaker 2: No opportunity no real one Something I see is it
[1:14:15] Speaker 2: Dalton connect has.
[1:14:17] Speaker 3: I'm trying to fuck him up. Don't know where that
[1:14:22] Speaker 3: came from. But it worked. It worked. Look, we got
[1:14:26] Speaker 3: a lot of buttons.
[1:14:27] Speaker 1: Shout out to Paolo. He's doing about 17 different jobs.
[1:14:30] Speaker 1: Paolo's cooking right now.
[1:14:33] Speaker 3: It still works. You know what I was waiting for.
[1:14:35] Speaker 3: You know what I was waiting for. Oh, don't worry. Yeah,
[1:14:41] Speaker 3: that's what I said. We got a lottery pick. I mean,
[1:14:46] Speaker 3: that's what I said. We got a guy who's supposed
[1:14:48] Speaker 3: to be a lottery pick.
[1:14:50] Speaker 1: So, but to Sean's point, Gil, I know.
[1:14:53] Speaker 3: What was his point? What are you saying?
[1:14:54] Speaker 2: Traditionally, you say prioritizing, drafting younger players that have room
[1:14:58] Speaker 2: for growth because the guy at 19 versus the guy
[1:15:00] Speaker 2: at 23, by the time he's 23, he can get
[1:15:02] Speaker 2: to those same stats.
[1:15:04] Speaker 1: Cook, Joe, cook.
[1:15:06] Speaker 3: But my question.
[1:15:07] Speaker 1: For you, though.
[1:15:07] Speaker 3: Where did we pick?
[1:15:08] Speaker 1: Joe, why are you letting him interrupt you?
[1:15:10] Speaker 3: You're cooking right now.
[1:15:12] Speaker 1: Keep cooking.
[1:15:13] Speaker 3: I said, wait, no, no, no. I said. You see
[1:15:16] Speaker 3: this shit? He's a bully in this, man. He's sitting there.
[1:15:21] Speaker 3: Give me the pot.
[1:15:22] Speaker 1: You ain't cooking.
[1:15:23] Speaker 3: I said, I said, I said the lottery pick is
[1:15:25] Speaker 3: where you pick youth, the stars. The mid, you pick
[1:15:30] Speaker 3: older guys. That's how it's always been. Where were we?
[1:15:33] Speaker 3: We were 17. What did we pick?
[1:15:36] Speaker 2: A 23-year-old.
[1:15:37] Speaker 3: Okay.
[1:15:37] Speaker 2: But to my point, though, so you see the way
[1:15:39] Speaker 2: that the new CBA is kind of stifling teams, and
[1:15:42] Speaker 2: you want to get that young guy to develop, but
[1:15:44] Speaker 2: now I got to pay this dude for three, four
[1:15:46] Speaker 2: years before I can see if he can actually flourish
[1:15:48] Speaker 2: into something like Adult and the Connectives. Now, even though
[1:15:50] Speaker 2: he's 23, some of those guys are 19 years old.
[1:15:53] Speaker 2: Do you feel like teams are going to shift that
[1:15:55] Speaker 2: approach to get guys who are ready to go right now?
[1:15:57] Speaker 3: No young team is going to pick an older guy. Here,
[1:16:00] Speaker 3: this is a conversation. Y'all remember Dwight Howard and y'all
[1:16:04] Speaker 3: remember Okafor. Okafor was player of the year, right? Now,
[1:16:10] Speaker 3: Okafor was the better player than Dwight. This is all
[1:16:15] Speaker 3: they did. All right, Okafor is 22 at the time.
[1:16:18] Speaker 3: Dwight is 18. They say, all right. In the next
[1:16:22] Speaker 3: four years, Dwight will be 22. Where would he be
[1:16:27] Speaker 3: compared to where Okafor is today? Does Okafor have a
[1:16:30] Speaker 3: chance to be a superstar? He's 22 right now. Does
[1:16:33] Speaker 3: he have a chance to be a superstar? The answer
[1:16:36] Speaker 3: was no. He's going to be a very good player.
[1:16:38] Speaker 3: Dwight at 18, does he have a chance to be
[1:16:40] Speaker 3: a superstar? The answer was like, probably yes.
[1:16:43] Speaker 1: Okay. Because you have four years.
[1:16:44] Speaker 3: You got four years before you're this age. So you're
[1:16:48] Speaker 3: going to go with this guy. If you say in
[1:16:51] Speaker 3: four years, will he be better than this rookie coming in?
[1:16:55] Speaker 3: If the answer is yeah, you go with him. Now,
[1:16:57] Speaker 3: the rookie year, what happened? Ogre 4-1, rookie of the year.
[1:17:02] Speaker 1: Right?
[1:17:02] Speaker 3: Do you think anybody in Orlando was like, fuck? No, because...
[1:17:07] Speaker 3: Dwight averaged a double-double as a rookie. Now, Okafor won
[1:17:15] Speaker 3: Rookie of the Year averaging 15 and 11. By the
[1:17:18] Speaker 3: time Dwight Howard was 22, he was an all-NBA player.
[1:17:26] Speaker 3: But my point.
[1:17:28] Speaker 1: Is, you are an extreme example. Dwight Howard is an
[1:17:33] Speaker 1: extreme example, and you're talking about him compared to Rebecca Okafor.
[1:17:41] Speaker 1: But I understand that example. My point is.
[1:17:43] Speaker 3: What?
[1:17:43] Speaker 1: I'm like, what? Dwight Howard versus Emeka is not even close.
[1:17:47] Speaker 3: No, that's every example, D.
[1:17:48] Speaker 1: It's not, because not every... It's not 10 Dwight Howards.
[1:17:52] Speaker 3: No, what I'm saying is when you're in the lottery
[1:17:54] Speaker 3: and you're looking for something and you have an older
[1:17:57] Speaker 3: guy who's proven right now or a younger guy... But
[1:18:00] Speaker 3: you're the example. You're asking yourself, like, let's say EDN, Shasha...
[1:18:06] Speaker 3: Who's number one? Zachary Shasha. You're asking, will ED be
[1:18:10] Speaker 3: a superstar? Do you think he would be a superstar?
[1:18:13] Speaker 4: Yeah, I think he would.
[1:18:14] Speaker 3: I think he'll be a good NBA player. Good NBA player. Okay,
[1:18:17] Speaker 3: now you say Shashir. What's his chance to be a superstar?
[1:18:21] Speaker 1: Right? You like baguettes.
[1:18:23] Speaker 3: Right? So you're like, and I got four years before
[1:18:26] Speaker 3: he's 22. I'd rather take my chance here. Wow. And
[1:18:29] Speaker 3: that's what they do.
[1:18:30] Speaker 1: And that's dumb.
[1:18:31] Speaker 3: That's why they're dumb.
[1:18:32] Speaker 4: That's exactly why they're dumb.
[1:18:35] Speaker 3: How?
[1:18:35] Speaker 4: It's dumb. It's dumb.
[1:18:38] Speaker 1: Atlanta could take Zack Eady and have some effect right
[1:18:41] Speaker 1: now instead of waiting four years for a guy from
[1:18:43] Speaker 1: France to pan out. Business-wise, it makes no sense. I'm
[1:18:49] Speaker 1: not rocking with you. them businessmen over there. They're going
[1:18:51] Speaker 1: to lose. They're going to stay in the red, and
[1:18:52] Speaker 1: they ain't never going to make no money. Ever. They
[1:18:56] Speaker 1: hold thought processes backwards. I got somebody ready to perform
[1:18:59] Speaker 1: right here, right now, with experience, three years, in college.
[1:19:04] Speaker 3: In college.
[1:19:04] Speaker 1: Man, with a resume.
[1:19:06] Speaker 3: Three years. With a resume of experience.
[1:19:08] Speaker 1: Of college. The Quincy kid in the D League should
[1:19:11] Speaker 1: be playing right now. Experience.
[1:19:13] Speaker 2: He was on the bench for the Lakers last night.
[1:19:15] Speaker 1: What? You got him playing behind 19-year-olds who don't even
[1:19:18] Speaker 1: know how to take a fucking play from the sidelines?
[1:19:23] Speaker 8: Side out of bounds OB?
[1:19:25] Speaker 1: You don't know nothing?
[1:19:26] Speaker 3: High-selling jersey. It's experience of what? It's experience of college.
[1:19:29] Speaker 1: It's experience of winning and playing.
[1:19:31] Speaker 3: It's just college.
[1:19:31] Speaker 1: Winning and playing and terminology and how to get back
[1:19:35] Speaker 1: on defense and watching film. All that shit matter. That's
[1:19:40] Speaker 1: why Dalton Connect can come in and hit six threes
[1:19:44] Speaker 1: because he's been there before.
[1:19:45] Speaker 3: The thing is it's called an investment. I have $ 100
[1:19:47] Speaker 3: a day today. This is $ 25. If I put it
[1:19:59] Speaker 3: in the bank, will it be more than, and I
[1:20:02] Speaker 3: got three years to make more than $ 100, and this
[1:20:04] Speaker 3: was a smarter move. I have three years before he
[1:20:08] Speaker 3: averages whatever this 22-year-old is gonna average this year. So
[1:20:12] Speaker 3: if Zack Eady averages 10 and eight, Sashir, he has
[1:20:17] Speaker 3: four years to just beat that when he gets to it.
[1:20:20] Speaker 7: So you don't care about winning right now?
[1:20:22] Speaker 3: If you're in a lottery, obviously. So that's the point there.
[1:20:24] Speaker 3: If you're a lottery pick, it's not about winning. It's
[1:20:28] Speaker 3: about trying to... Grab a bunch of assets for three,
[1:20:31] Speaker 3: four years so we can be good when all these.
[1:20:35] Speaker 2: But every team in the lottery isn't necessarily trash right now.
[1:20:37] Speaker 2: Some have a win-now mindset approach to take a team
[1:20:40] Speaker 2: like the Grizzlies. We know they got Jock coming back.
[1:20:43] Speaker 2: But that's the thing.
[1:20:44] Speaker 3: We're talking about the one, two, three pick where he
[1:20:46] Speaker 3: would have been, right? It's very different. There's no.
[1:20:50] Speaker 2: If you're... Who was in there? We're not talking one, two,
[1:20:53] Speaker 2: three pick.
[1:20:53] Speaker 1: We're talking every GM that makes stupid decisions, like trying
[1:20:57] Speaker 1: to draft young instead of draft for experienced and college
[1:21:00] Speaker 1: players who know how to play.
[1:21:01] Speaker 3: If you're like the Wizards, what are you going after
[1:21:04] Speaker 3: Edie for? Your team is young. You're trying to build...
[1:21:08] Speaker 3: You're trying to build. By the time the rest of
[1:21:11] Speaker 3: your team, think about 22, by the time the rest
[1:21:14] Speaker 3: of your team matures 23, 24, 25, that number one
[1:21:17] Speaker 3: pick would be 28.
[1:21:19] Speaker 2: And do you feel like team GMs have that approach, though?
[1:21:21] Speaker 2: If you're a trash team right now, we're not even
[1:21:23] Speaker 2: tripping for these next couple years. We're looking at three,
[1:21:26] Speaker 2: four years down the road.
[1:21:28] Speaker 3: Exactly how Houston's been going since James Harden left. You're
[1:21:32] Speaker 3: getting a whole bunch of assets. And you're trying to
[1:21:35] Speaker 3: see which one is maturing faster than the other. You're
[1:21:37] Speaker 3: pulling in, pulling out. Like right now, those 19-year-old kids
[1:21:41] Speaker 3: that came in, the 19-year-olds, they're 22 now. Jalen Green
[1:21:46] Speaker 3: is 22 now. Sangoon is 22. Like, we found our
[1:21:51] Speaker 3: young stars.
[1:21:52] Speaker 1: And to your point, they don't give a fuck about
[1:21:55] Speaker 1: winning because they're just going to offload all those stars
[1:21:57] Speaker 1: as assets, as investments, because that's what investors do. If
[1:22:02] Speaker 1: you're going to acquire an asset, you build it up,
[1:22:04] Speaker 1: create value, and you offload it. That's what they're doing.
[1:22:07] Speaker 1: They don't care about winning.
[1:22:09] Speaker 2: The Rock is currently fourth in the West right now, 10-5.
[1:22:12] Speaker 3: Fourth in the West with a bunch of 20s.
[1:22:13] Speaker 2: I think made a run last season, came close to
[1:22:16] Speaker 2: being in the playoffs.
[1:22:16] Speaker 1: Now you want to hear something.
[1:22:18] Speaker 3: And this is why we all know it, but we're
[1:22:20] Speaker 3: not translated to the NBA. We're not... When we're looking
[1:22:25] Speaker 3: at age, we're not looking at it that way. Now,
[1:22:28] Speaker 3: how does... If we was in high school, a senior's 18,
[1:22:32] Speaker 3: how would we look? How would it look if a
[1:22:34] Speaker 3: freshman was 18 years old? Seen it before, does not look...
[1:22:39] Speaker 3: Doesn't look very well, right? An older guy dominating at
[1:22:43] Speaker 3: an age where you're like, same thing in the NBA.
[1:22:48] Speaker 3: Edie's high school class, his high school class, his senior
[1:22:52] Speaker 3: class is Jalen Green. How long has Jalen Green been
[1:22:55] Speaker 3: in the NBA? That's at Sangoon.
[1:22:58] Speaker 1: This is his moment.
[1:23:00] Speaker 3: This is his high school class.
[1:23:02] Speaker 1: It's not the same at all.
[1:23:03] Speaker 3: Yes, that's who he's compared to.
[1:23:05] Speaker 1: It's more people in the class that are older, that
[1:23:08] Speaker 1: have been there. It's not just a classroom of people
[1:23:11] Speaker 1: no more. That may have been in high school where, yeah, senior, senior.
[1:23:14] Speaker 3: Freshman, man, you shouldn't be playing here. Yeah, you're old.
[1:23:18] Speaker 1: But now we got other motherfuckers here, too, that's older
[1:23:21] Speaker 1: than him. So we ain't really worried about him. Whoever
[1:23:24] Speaker 1: you talking about, Edie and Jalen Green and all that,
[1:23:26] Speaker 1: it don't matter when you're in the NBA.
[1:23:28] Speaker 3: Everybody's old.
[1:23:30] Speaker 1: Everybody's here for a reason. We're all pros now. Your
[1:23:34] Speaker 1: age does not matter.
[1:23:35] Speaker 3: That is false.
[1:23:37] Speaker 1: For people who are babying, if you want to baby
[1:23:40] Speaker 1: the kids, it's false, for sure. If you want to
[1:23:43] Speaker 1: baby them, it's false.
[1:23:47] Speaker 3: Do you know if you put a 13-year-old and a
[1:23:50] Speaker 3: 17-year-old in the same field and you have them doing
[1:23:54] Speaker 3: the same thing, who's supposed to be better at it? Oh,
[1:23:56] Speaker 3: the 17-year-old. The 17-year-old, right?
[1:23:57] Speaker 4: Without question.
[1:23:57] Speaker 3: Without question. Why? Because he's 17.
[1:24:00] Speaker 9: Why?
[1:24:00] Speaker 4: He's more experienced.
[1:24:01] Speaker 1: You got to give me a why.
[1:24:02] Speaker 3: He's more experienced. Why do I give you? You know it.
[1:24:05] Speaker 1: What if he's never done it before?
[1:24:06] Speaker 6: But he's been on this earth long.
[1:24:09] Speaker 1: He's a pro, pro, pro, pro. Y'all both are new
[1:24:13] Speaker 1: at this.
[1:24:14] Speaker 3: A 17-year-old and a 13-year-old?
[1:24:15] Speaker 1: Yes, we're both rock climbing for the first time.
[1:24:18] Speaker 3: No, no, no, we're both pros.
[1:24:20] Speaker 1: Okay, now.
[1:24:21] Speaker 3: So the 13, the 17 been the pro, the 13-year-old
[1:24:25] Speaker 3: just got the key.
[1:24:26] Speaker 1: I was the 13-year-old that was better than the 17-year-old.
[1:24:28] Speaker 3: Then who was better?
[1:24:29] Speaker 1: I used to be the 13 that was better.
[1:24:31] Speaker 3: And the 17-year-old just started playing?
[1:24:33] Speaker 1: We're on the same level.
[1:24:35] Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no, no. The 17-year-old, right? High school, right?
[1:24:40] Speaker 3: High school is that 17-year-old to be a junior. So
[1:24:43] Speaker 3: this is a 13-year-old freshman coming in, right? So we'll
[1:24:45] Speaker 3: say LaMelo Ball.
[1:24:47] Speaker 1: Right.
[1:24:47] Speaker 3: Whoever was 17th and whoever that was, he's supposed to
[1:24:51] Speaker 3: be better than the 13 year old coming in because
[1:24:53] Speaker 3: this is the 13 year old's first experience. But if
[1:24:55] Speaker 3: you have them training every day for the next four years,
[1:24:58] Speaker 3: by the time this 13 year old becomes 17, he's
[1:25:02] Speaker 3: actually better than the 17, 18, 21 year old. The
[1:25:07] Speaker 3: 17 year old will be better than the 21 year old.
[1:25:13] Speaker 3: That's just the fact. It would not stay the same.
[1:25:16] Speaker 3: He would not still be dominating. Prime example, there's a
[1:25:18] Speaker 3: kid named, I think his name is Luca, right? Luca was,
[1:25:23] Speaker 3: when did Luca play against the NBA team? When he
[1:25:26] Speaker 3: was what, 17, 18, 16, 17? No, 15, 14.
[1:25:27] Speaker 1: He was not the best player on that team.
[1:25:28] Speaker 3: It was 21, 22-year-olds. By the time he turned 17,
[1:25:30] Speaker 3: he was the best player in the league. He's running
[1:25:39] Speaker 3: at a higher rate. He's learning moves you're learning at 20, 21.
[1:25:43] Speaker 3: He's learning them at 17 years old. He's running faster.
[1:25:49] Speaker 3: You just have a head start than him. That's all.
[1:25:52] Speaker 3: So when I'm in a draft and I got a
[1:25:53] Speaker 3: 22-year-old and an 18-year-old, I got to see who's moving faster.
[1:25:57] Speaker 3: There's only a few.
[1:25:58] Speaker 1: The metrics are against you because you can't prove results
[1:26:00] Speaker 1: showing that drafting younger is better.
[1:26:04] Speaker 3: Okay, name me the last. Name me five. Since 2000,
[1:26:07] Speaker 3: name me five lottery 22-year-olds that were stars. I can't.
[1:26:13] Speaker 3: I know you can't.
[1:26:14] Speaker 1: Because stars doesn't mean you're better. Does it mean just
[1:26:17] Speaker 1: because you're drafting a star doesn't mean... No, I said star.
[1:26:21] Speaker 3: No, that means the guy who got drafted, the end
[1:26:24] Speaker 3: of their career, there was a star. Like a Tim Duncan, right?
[1:26:28] Speaker 3: An Allen Iverson, like that.
[1:26:30] Speaker 1: No, I'm speaking role players that come in and impact
[1:26:32] Speaker 1: the game. We're talking about stars.
[1:26:33] Speaker 3: Role players? Why would I want a role player.
[1:26:37] Speaker 1: Dalton Connect is a college role player. Don't ask why
[1:26:41] Speaker 1: you would want anything because that's.
[1:26:43] Speaker 3: What we talk about.
[1:26:43] Speaker 2: You're saying Connect was a role player in college?
[1:26:45] Speaker 1: No, I'm saying he's a role player on the team now.
[1:26:47] Speaker 3: Okay. But why would I draft him number one?
[1:26:49] Speaker 2: You didn't draft him to be a star, did you?
[1:26:51] Speaker 3: That's why I'm not drafting him number one, two, or three.
[1:26:53] Speaker 1: You didn't have one, two, or three picked. You had 17.
[1:26:56] Speaker 1: So at 17, you're not picking Dalton.
[1:26:58] Speaker 3: Connect to be a star. No, we're picking him to
[1:26:59] Speaker 3: be a role player.
[1:27:00] Speaker 1: Exactly. That's what college players are. That's why they should
[1:27:03] Speaker 1: be available to be picked to be what he is.
[1:27:06] Speaker 3: They are. That's where they get picked. What are you
[1:27:09] Speaker 3: talking about? Are you missing the word? What did I say?
[1:27:13] Speaker 3: The younger kids who got a future to be stars
[1:27:16] Speaker 3: are drafted in the early age. So the older guys
[1:27:20] Speaker 3: that are proven that can play right now are in
[1:27:23] Speaker 3: the teens. That's where you send them. So all the
[1:27:25] Speaker 3: players that can play right now are teens because the lottery.
[1:27:31] Speaker 3: It's future. The lottery's not right now.
[1:27:33] Speaker 1: It's stupid. It's because those kids should go to college.
[1:27:38] Speaker 1: Those kids should go to college.
[1:27:41] Speaker 3: He just said it, though.
[1:27:44] Speaker 1: You get connected right now.
[1:27:45] Speaker 3: That's where you get them at. You don't get them one, two,
[1:27:48] Speaker 3: or three.
[1:27:49] Speaker 4: You're saying which kids should go to college.
[1:27:51] Speaker 1: I'm saying the young 19-year-old kids he's vouching for, that
[1:27:55] Speaker 1: you spend and invest time in as assets. Go to school.
[1:27:58] Speaker 4: So you're saying they should go to college.
[1:27:59] Speaker 1: Yes, become an asset before we have to invest in
[1:28:03] Speaker 1: you trying to.
[1:28:05] Speaker 6: They should go to college and play versus just coming
[1:28:09] Speaker 6: and sitting.
[1:28:10] Speaker 1: On the bench. We're being an incubator. Just incubation stage.
[1:28:14] Speaker 3: Can I ask you something?
[1:28:15] Speaker 4: I don't disagree with that.
[1:28:16] Speaker 3: Can I ask you something?
[1:28:17] Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay.
[1:28:24] Speaker 3: If we take, let's say, what age is WNBA? They
[1:28:29] Speaker 3: come in 22?
[1:28:32] Speaker 7: Well, they got to graduate from college.
[1:28:34] Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, so let's just say average age 22.
[1:28:36] Speaker 7: 22, yeah.
[1:28:36] Speaker 3: Right, and let's say Juju's an 18-year-old.
[1:28:39] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:28:40] Speaker 3: I give Juju, we got two roads. Juju, four years
[1:28:44] Speaker 3: in college, right? She's going to have her game. Or
[1:28:47] Speaker 3: you take her and you incubate her four years in
[1:28:50] Speaker 3: a WNBA. By the time they're 22, who is more dominant?
[1:28:55] Speaker 3: Which player? Yeah, but Juju is different. But I'm just saying,
[1:28:59] Speaker 3: which player is dominant?
[1:29:00] Speaker 1: He uses the extreme example.
[1:29:01] Speaker 3: No, I'm just saying, which player is dominant?
[1:29:04] Speaker 4: You're saying a.
[1:29:04] Speaker 3: Because those are the people that's going to be picked
[1:29:07] Speaker 3: in a lottery. So which one would be the more
[1:29:09] Speaker 3: dominant player? The one that's been four years going against women?
[1:29:14] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[1:29:15] Speaker 3: Or the one who's been in college for the four years?
[1:29:18] Speaker 1: And the one that's been in the league going against
[1:29:20] Speaker 1: women is not playing. Are you listening to me, Cheryl?
[1:29:25] Speaker 1: Juju not playing for four years.
[1:29:27] Speaker 6: But I do think it's different with men and women.
[1:29:29] Speaker 1: Of course it is.
[1:29:29] Speaker 4: I do.
[1:29:30] Speaker 1: Confidence.
[1:29:30] Speaker 3: The incubator is the incubator.
[1:29:31] Speaker 1: Confidence is everything.
[1:29:32] Speaker 3: Kobe Bryant and all these young kids.
[1:29:34] Speaker 4: Let me tell you why.
[1:29:35] Speaker 6: It's still different, though, because personally, I think Juju could
[1:29:39] Speaker 6: go to the league right now and.
[1:29:43] Speaker 4: Be better than some women.
[1:29:46] Speaker 3: Ooh, I'm saying, you give her, what I'm saying is
[1:29:49] Speaker 3: you give her, I'm just kidding.
[1:29:51] Speaker 4: No, I do, I think she could.
[1:29:53] Speaker 7: And I understand what you're saying.
[1:29:55] Speaker 6: But, so it's basically saying, would you rather her stay
[1:30:00] Speaker 6: in college and play her four years, get experience playing
[1:30:04] Speaker 6: in college, or go to the W and not play,
[1:30:10] Speaker 6: but practice?
[1:30:13] Speaker 3: We don't know what you're going to do. It's four years.
[1:30:16] Speaker 3: That makes no sense. By 22, by the age of 22,
[1:30:19] Speaker 3: who would be the better player?
[1:30:20] Speaker 4: I'm trying to answer his question. By what age?
[1:30:23] Speaker 3: By the age of 22. These two got to meet.
[1:30:28] Speaker 3: The one who spent four years in college and the
[1:30:31] Speaker 3: one who spent four years in a W-8, they got
[1:30:33] Speaker 3: to play one-on-one. Who is going to be dominant?
[1:30:35] Speaker 4: But Gil, but you can't. No, no, no, but you can't.
[1:30:38] Speaker 1: You got to let them off slow.
[1:30:40] Speaker 4: But you can't.
[1:30:41] Speaker 1: Let them off slow.
[1:30:42] Speaker 4: You can't use Juju.
[1:30:43] Speaker 3: It's the lottery.
[1:30:45] Speaker 4: You have to.
[1:30:46] Speaker 3: Get me another player.
[1:30:48] Speaker 6: Because I think Juju could still stay in college for
[1:30:52] Speaker 6: four years and then go to the W and be
[1:30:53] Speaker 6: just as good.
[1:30:54] Speaker 3: Or she can just come in right now and be
[1:30:55] Speaker 3: just as good.
[1:30:56] Speaker 4: If she left early and went to play pro. But
[1:31:00] Speaker 4: there are some.
[1:31:02] Speaker 6: That I would say, yeah, this particular player, if she
[1:31:06] Speaker 6: went to the WNBA and practiced every day against, I
[1:31:13] Speaker 6: don't know.
[1:31:15] Speaker 3: And this is the reason. Same thing with Zack Eady.
[1:31:19] Speaker 3: The person you're playing four years against in college is
[1:31:23] Speaker 3: not the people you're playing against in the NBA.
[1:31:25] Speaker 4: 100%.
[1:31:25] Speaker 3: So those fucking moves you're working on being dominant doesn't
[1:31:28] Speaker 3: work here. You're playing against Anthony Davis. You're playing against Joker.
[1:31:32] Speaker 3: You don't even know what that looks like in your head.
[1:31:34] Speaker 3: You don't even play those guys. Remember, how many people
[1:31:37] Speaker 3: are in college?
[1:31:37] Speaker 1: 7,000, 10,000 people?
[1:31:37] Speaker 3: Players? Yes.
[1:31:43] Speaker 2: Probably like three, three to four.
[1:31:45] Speaker 3: 3,000 people. Four to five, four to five. There's only
[1:31:47] Speaker 3: 14 lottery picks. And then the people that was picked lottery,
[1:31:53] Speaker 3: he didn't play against none of them. So the people
[1:31:56] Speaker 3: that he's been playing against and dominating don't even make
[1:31:59] Speaker 3: the NBA. So I don't care what you learn. If
[1:32:04] Speaker 3: he goes in the next 40 years and say, name
[1:32:07] Speaker 3: me every Hall of Fame superstar, there's going to be one,
[1:32:11] Speaker 3: there's going to be a trend. And it's going to
[1:32:15] Speaker 3: be against me. That's why he can't name you 22-year-olds
[1:32:21] Speaker 3: that came into the age of 22 that are considered
[1:32:25] Speaker 3: Hall of Fame stars. He can't name five. He can't.
[1:32:30] Speaker 3: So the older proven guy, the older proven guy that
[1:32:33] Speaker 3: he would like drafted in the first five, that they
[1:32:37] Speaker 3: were great in college, they came into the NBA, and
[1:32:39] Speaker 3: they dominated the NBA.
[1:32:43] Speaker 4: Well, there's not many of them.
[1:32:45] Speaker 2: Hey, can I say something?
[1:32:46] Speaker 4: The floor is yours.
[1:32:47] Speaker 1: Okay.
[1:32:48] Speaker 2: So what does.
[1:32:50] Speaker 1: College basketball do for your confidence when you're thriving?
[1:32:54] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[1:32:56] Speaker 1: Like, what is it doing for Juju's confidence right now
[1:33:00] Speaker 1: to see that she's the.
[1:33:01] Speaker 2: Number one player in the country? Playing against a whole
[1:33:02] Speaker 2: bunch of kids?
[1:33:03] Speaker 1: Right?
[1:33:03] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[1:33:04] Speaker 2: Number one, right?
[1:33:04] Speaker 4: I think Juju right now is like.
[1:33:06] Speaker 1: She's getting accolades.
[1:33:07] Speaker 2: She's getting confidence, right?
[1:33:08] Speaker 4: Oh, for sure.
[1:33:10] Speaker 1: Now, when she starts to dominate those accolades and starts
[1:33:12] Speaker 1: to see that, yeah, y'all really not fucking with me.
[1:33:17] Speaker 7: Y'all ain't on my level.
[1:33:18] Speaker 1: Now, granted, that is the feeling she'll get in college
[1:33:21] Speaker 1: regardless because she's dominant.
[1:33:22] Speaker 3: Well, didn't she have that last year?
[1:33:24] Speaker 1: Now, listen. If she goes to the league as a...
[1:33:27] Speaker 1: Fresh out of high school and they don't play her
[1:33:29] Speaker 1: for four years... I want you to tell me how
[1:33:32] Speaker 1: much confidence she garners going in, dominating in practice. That's
[1:33:37] Speaker 1: why I said, I said that too. It's an extreme example.
[1:33:40] Speaker 2: Juju averaged 27 last year.
[1:33:43] Speaker 1: Exactly.
[1:33:44] Speaker 4: Exactly.
[1:33:46] Speaker 1: So even Haley.
[1:33:47] Speaker 3: Would she be a lottery? We're talking, but we're talking. He's.
[1:33:50] Speaker 1: I like the hate. Y'all killing my point.
[1:33:54] Speaker 3: He's using role player. He wants role players to be picked.
[1:33:57] Speaker 1: Killing my point.
[1:33:58] Speaker 3: Go.
[1:33:58] Speaker 1: No, go ahead. My point is Juju. If she's in
[1:34:02] Speaker 1: college for four years, it's going to build up so
[1:34:06] Speaker 1: much dominant confidence. By the time she gets there, her
[1:34:09] Speaker 1: ability's going to change. It's going to get better, and
[1:34:14] Speaker 1: she's going to be ready confidently to dominate. If she
[1:34:18] Speaker 1: goes early and she has to fight the hard way
[1:34:22] Speaker 1: to get up, by the time she's 22, the confidence
[1:34:26] Speaker 1: is going to be very, very difficult to muster. And
[1:34:31] Speaker 1: that affects your ability.
[1:34:32] Speaker 7: And especially if she's not playing.
[1:34:35] Speaker 1: It's going to hurt. Then automatically in the fifth year,
[1:34:39] Speaker 1: I start playing automatically. Yeah, I got to step up.
[1:34:41] Speaker 2: It's pressure on me. I got to prove. And she
[1:34:43] Speaker 2: will because she's good, right?
[1:34:45] Speaker 1: But imagine a first-year rookie player after four years of
[1:34:48] Speaker 1: college coming in, dominating, MVP, rookie of the year, all
[1:34:52] Speaker 1: of those things in one year.
[1:34:54] Speaker 3: Rookie year.
[1:34:56] Speaker 1: Compared to being there four years not doing nothing, and
[1:34:59] Speaker 1: wait until your fifth year to do something.
[1:35:01] Speaker 2: That's crazy to me.
[1:35:02] Speaker 1: I'd rather be rookie of the year than come in
[1:35:04] Speaker 1: and try to get most improved in my fourth year
[1:35:06] Speaker 1: because I'm four years behind. But you're the same age.
[1:35:10] Speaker 1: I'm still four years behind.
[1:35:16] Speaker 3: But you're not four years behind. You're four years in front.
[1:35:21] Speaker 3: What do you mean four years behind?
[1:35:23] Speaker 1: So.
[1:35:24] Speaker 3: So I get this now.
[1:35:25] Speaker 1: I told you to stop laughing.
[1:35:28] Speaker 3: All right. It's not funny.
[1:35:35] Speaker 1: They ain't booking me for no comedy shows.
[1:35:37] Speaker 3: So we're going to use we're going to you. We're
[1:35:39] Speaker 3: going to use your example of what did you say?
[1:35:43] Speaker 3: Got your confidence all up playing against these guys. Yeah.
[1:35:47] Speaker 3: So can you tell me where they confidence was when
[1:35:49] Speaker 3: they came into the NBA? Player of the year. Shane Battier.
[1:35:55] Speaker 3: How good was he as a pro? Player of the year.
[1:35:56] Speaker 1: He was very good.
[1:35:57] Speaker 3: Player of the year.
[1:35:58] Speaker 1: He was very good.
[1:35:59] Speaker 3: Very good. Yes.
[1:35:59] Speaker 1: Who are you comparing his goodness to?
[1:36:01] Speaker 6: You said Shane Battier was very good?
[1:36:04] Speaker 3: Yes, he was very good.
[1:36:06] Speaker 1: What is his expectation?
[1:36:07] Speaker 3: Oh, he was the fifth pick.
[1:36:09] Speaker 1: What's his expectation?
[1:36:10] Speaker 3: The way he got picked superstar. Yeah.
[1:36:12] Speaker 1: Why?
[1:36:12] Speaker 3: Because that's the pick.
[1:36:13] Speaker 1: That seems like your expectation for him.
[1:36:15] Speaker 3: No, that's the superstar.
[1:36:16] Speaker 1: I don't think anybody else was disappointed about Shane Battier's career.
[1:36:19] Speaker 1: Is that crickets?
[1:36:23] Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, nobody's disappointed.
[1:36:25] Speaker 1: I'm just.
[1:36:26] Speaker 3: Nobody's disappointed. Yeah. Uh-huh.
[1:36:30] Speaker 1: Shane Metier, next.
[1:36:31] Speaker 4: Was he a superstar?
[1:36:32] Speaker 2: No.
[1:36:33] Speaker 3: No.
[1:36:33] Speaker 4: Okay. No, I'm saying... He was a college player.
[1:36:35] Speaker 3: He was a college All-American.
[1:36:37] Speaker 1: College All-American. He was a college Mega Man.
[1:36:39] Speaker 3: And then he comes in there, he got a guard, LeBron,
[1:36:41] Speaker 3: motherfucking James, and Kobe Bryant, and Vince Carter, like, oh, shit,
[1:36:44] Speaker 3: black people. The blacks, this is where you've been hiding them?
[1:36:49] Speaker 1: God damn!
[1:36:50] Speaker 3: Yeah. Shit!
[1:36:51] Speaker 1: The real black people in college.
[1:36:54] Speaker 3: The real ones. No.
[1:36:56] Speaker 1: There were real black.
[1:36:57] Speaker 3: People in college.
[1:36:57] Speaker 1: No, no.
[1:36:58] Speaker 3: He played four years. Those black people, they left. They
[1:37:01] Speaker 3: came into the NBA, goddammit. The guys he was trying
[1:37:04] Speaker 3: to guard for one game, like, I'm just, J.J. Redding,
[1:37:07] Speaker 3: Talon Hasbro, right? Come on, man.
[1:37:09] Speaker 2: Who?
[1:37:10] Speaker 3: Jimmer Fredette. We're talking about the 22-year-old seniors who got
[1:37:14] Speaker 3: all this confidence coming in.
[1:37:16] Speaker 1: Look at these seniors.
[1:37:16] Speaker 3: J.J.
[1:37:17] Speaker 1: Redding.
[1:37:17] Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure he had a lot of confidence, right?
[1:37:20] Speaker 3: I didn't translate. Absolutely. Uh, Jimmer Fredette.
[1:37:22] Speaker 1: What is translation?
[1:37:23] Speaker 3: Jimmer Fredette.
[1:37:24] Speaker 1: Hold on.
[1:37:24] Speaker 3: Player of the year.
[1:37:25] Speaker 1: Hold on.
[1:37:26] Speaker 3: How did that confidence.
[1:37:26] Speaker 1: Is translation Gilbert?
[1:37:28] Speaker 3: How did that confidence.
[1:37:30] Speaker 1: Is translation all NBA Gilbert Arenas numbers? What translation are
[1:37:35] Speaker 1: we talking about here, Gil? You have to make it
[1:37:38] Speaker 1: make sense who you're comparing people to. We're not comparing
[1:37:42] Speaker 1: them to you.
[1:37:43] Speaker 3: This is the Don't compare him to you. He's the
[1:37:44] Speaker 3: best player in the draft.
[1:37:45] Speaker 1: So what?
[1:37:46] Speaker 3: He's the best player in the draft.
[1:37:47] Speaker 1: His numbers reflect his numbers. Okay. It doesn't reflect his ability.
[1:37:50] Speaker 3: He's the best player in the draft. You said best
[1:37:53] Speaker 3: player in the draft. So tell me how it translated
[1:37:55] Speaker 3: with all this fucking confidence. He was a role player.
[1:37:58] Speaker 1: Like I said, they all were. Andre.
[1:38:00] Speaker 3: So the best player in the draft, because he won,
[1:38:02] Speaker 3: was it? Because he was a college player.
[1:38:05] Speaker 1: And I said college developed what?
[1:38:07] Speaker 3: And I said what? Role players.
[1:38:09] Speaker 1: Role players.
[1:38:10] Speaker 3: And why am I drafting a role player in a lottery?
[1:38:12] Speaker 3: It's the same thing I said. He's safe.
[1:38:14] Speaker 1: Because you need players to play right away. That's why
[1:38:18] Speaker 1: you're drafting college players in the early draft, because you want.
[1:38:22] Speaker 4: Them to play.
[1:38:23] Speaker 1: So question.
[1:38:23] Speaker 4: Question for you.
[1:38:24] Speaker 3: I don't need, but that's what I'm saying.
[1:38:26] Speaker 4: Yeah, he was right here. He went to college for
[1:38:29] Speaker 4: four years?
[1:38:29] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:38:31] Speaker 4: Okay, so I didn't think he was a very good pro.
[1:38:34] Speaker 3: Tyler, how about Tyler Hosberg?
[1:38:36] Speaker 1: I wasn't a very good pro either, Cheryl.
[1:38:38] Speaker 4: But I have a question for you. I was terrible.
[1:38:40] Speaker 3: How about Doug McDormand?
[1:38:41] Speaker 1: I was terrible. Listen, I'm a fan of Doug McDormand.
[1:38:44] Speaker 1: Nothing translated about Doug McDormand.
[1:38:49] Speaker 3: Nothing translated. Frank Kaminsky. Y'all better watch out.
[1:38:53] Speaker 1: Let's take him with the top five pick. Let me
[1:38:55] Speaker 1: get me a huh.
[1:38:56] Speaker 4: I got a question for you.
[1:38:57] Speaker 3: Uh-huh. Marvin Williams. Frank Mason III.
[1:38:59] Speaker 1: Marvin Williams.
[1:39:00] Speaker 3: Marvin Williams.
[1:39:01] Speaker 1: Why you ain't saying Marvin? He didn't last that long.
[1:39:05] Speaker 1: Marvin Williams? He was in his first season. Was Salim Stoudemire? Oh,
[1:39:10] Speaker 1: you can't say him.
[1:39:11] Speaker 3: No, don't say him.
[1:39:12] Speaker 1: He's a senior. Who else?
[1:39:14] Speaker 3: It's so many guys he's leaving out.
[1:39:16] Speaker 2: No Salim Stoudemire disrespect.
[1:39:18] Speaker 3: Marvin Williams played 14 years in the NBA.
[1:39:21] Speaker 1: Come on, man.
[1:39:24] Speaker 3: Marvin Williams played 14 years. Doug McDormand. Andrew Bogut. He
[1:39:29] Speaker 3: played 14 years, retired at 33. That's what early does.
[1:39:35] Speaker 3: 14 years on 33 years old.
[1:39:36] Speaker 2: That's what it translated to.
[1:39:40] Speaker 1: A fucking role player.
[1:39:43] Speaker 2: So we asked the chat.
[1:39:44] Speaker 3: Oh, God.
[1:39:45] Speaker 2: We got to move on. We got other things to discuss.
[1:39:47] Speaker 2: We asked the chat, is it obvious? 73% say yes.
[1:39:51] Speaker 4: Is what obvious?
[1:39:52] Speaker 1: It was a question. It was just a question.
[1:39:55] Speaker 3: We just asked him, is it obvious?
[1:39:57] Speaker 1: Is it obvious?
[1:39:58] Speaker 3: Okay.
[1:39:58] Speaker 2: 73% say yes. But let's keep this moving. Got to
[1:40:00] Speaker 2: talk about another situation that went down last night.
[1:40:03] Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
[1:40:05] Speaker 4: This is obvious, y'all.
[1:40:07] Speaker 3: Get the shirts.
[1:40:08] Speaker 7: I got one.
[1:40:09] Speaker 3: I got chatted by Kanye.
[1:40:10] Speaker 1: For supporting his show.
[1:40:12] Speaker 2: He's got Is It Obvious t-shirts. International move around simple.
[1:40:19] Speaker 4: You still looking up players?
[1:40:20] Speaker 2: We should just do a whole show with you reading players' names.
[1:40:23] Speaker 2: A whole show with Gil reading players' names. Doug McDormand,
[1:40:27] Speaker 2: as he is now known. So, LaMelo Ball has been
[1:40:30] Speaker 2: the best fourth quarter scorer in the league this season,
[1:40:33] Speaker 2: but Tuesday night he found himself in an unusual position
[1:40:35] Speaker 2: in a close game against the Nets. So first we're
[1:40:38] Speaker 2: going to show the cause and then we'll show the effect.
[1:40:40] Speaker 2: So LaMelo missed this shot. Then got a questionable foul
[1:40:46] Speaker 2: right here. 348 remaining in the game. His coach, Charles Lee.
[1:40:51] Speaker 2: That was LaMelo's fourth foul.
[1:40:52] Speaker 1: Who's that? Huh? The coach?
[1:40:54] Speaker 2: Coach Charles Lee. With the Celtics. Won a championship with
[1:40:58] Speaker 2: the Bucs as well, but was with the Celtics last season.
[1:41:00] Speaker 3: Pulled LaMelo ball.
[1:41:02] Speaker 2: With 3.48 remaining in the game and the Hornets down
[1:41:05] Speaker 2: by one, opting to go with Trey Mann instead, did
[1:41:07] Speaker 2: not play LaMelo for the rest of the game. Hornets
[1:41:11] Speaker 2: went on to lose by one point. So prior to
[1:41:14] Speaker 2: this game, Ball was averaging a league-leading 11.2 points per
[1:41:17] Speaker 2: game in the fourth quarter. But LaMelo played just 24
[1:41:21] Speaker 2: minutes in the game, only eight total minutes in the
[1:41:23] Speaker 2: second half. He had 12 points and five assists. He
[1:41:26] Speaker 2: was three for 13 from the field, three for eight
[1:41:28] Speaker 2: from three. Trey Mann, who came in to replace LaMelo
[1:41:31] Speaker 2: for most of the second half, scored 16 of his
[1:41:33] Speaker 2: 19 points in the second half, obviously playing the 16
[1:41:36] Speaker 2: minutes that Melo spent on the bench in that time frame.
[1:41:40] Speaker 2: So after the game, Hornets head coach Charles Lee offered
[1:41:43] Speaker 2: this explanation for pulling his franchise player.
[1:41:46] Speaker 9: Melo's been phenomenal for us, and he's done so many
[1:41:49] Speaker 9: good things, and he's creating offensively and guarding. And I
[1:41:53] Speaker 9: just thought that Trey had a little bit of a
[1:41:55] Speaker 9: better hand tonight and was helping us a little bit
[1:41:57] Speaker 9: more on both ends of the court. But that's not
[1:41:59] Speaker 9: to say that we weren't getting anything from Melo early
[1:42:02] Speaker 9: in the game. I thought he did a really good
[1:42:03] Speaker 9: job of kind of setting the table and doing some
[1:42:04] Speaker 9: good things too. I think every night it could be
[1:42:07] Speaker 9: somebody different, and they all have to accept the fact
[1:42:10] Speaker 9: that if another guy has it going, we probably need.
[1:42:12] Speaker 3: To ride that hand.
[1:42:15] Speaker 2: So did Charles Lee make the right move benching LaMelo
[1:42:20] Speaker 2: Ball in the fourth quarter?
[1:42:24] Speaker 3: No. No. I mean, did he score in the second half?
[1:42:30] Speaker 1: Who?
[1:42:30] Speaker 3: LaMelo.
[1:42:31] Speaker 10: He might have had like three points, something like that.
[1:42:34] Speaker 10: So he had a horrible go at it. Nasty work.
[1:42:41] Speaker 10: That's embarrassing. It's embarrassing.
[1:42:43] Speaker 6: Well, and I just listened to the post-game press conference,
[1:42:47] Speaker 6: but I'm still trying to understand why you.
[1:42:50] Speaker 3: Oh, he didn't score in the second half.
[1:42:51] Speaker 1: Excuse me, Gil.
[1:42:53] Speaker 7: And the kid that.
[1:42:56] Speaker 1: The man.
[1:42:56] Speaker 3: Trey Mann.
[1:42:57] Speaker 4: Excuse me. What did he do?
[1:42:59] Speaker 2: He had 16 of his 19 points in the second half.
[1:43:02] Speaker 2: So he played 16 minutes in the second half.
[1:43:04] Speaker 1: Had 16 points.
[1:43:04] Speaker 2: He was the point guard? Trey Mann, yes. So I'm
[1:43:07] Speaker 2: calling baby AI.
[1:43:09] Speaker 1: I mean.
[1:43:11] Speaker 1: So....
[1:43:13] Speaker 2: It's not going to sit well with a Melo.
[1:43:15] Speaker 3: Or LeVar, I believe.
[1:43:16] Speaker 1: I mean, it's just embarrassing.
[1:43:17] Speaker 3: Probably Jello, either.
[1:43:18] Speaker 1: And the reason you gave was we had somebody else
[1:43:21] Speaker 1: giving a better hand at it.
[1:43:22] Speaker 2: Like, you just pull your.
[1:43:24] Speaker 1: Call timeout, pull your superstar to the side and talk
[1:43:27] Speaker 1: to him.
[1:43:27] Speaker 7: Have a conversation, yeah.
[1:43:28] Speaker 2: You don't embarrass him publicly.
[1:43:30] Speaker 6: So, I would say, if they would have won, I
[1:43:34] Speaker 6: would say, yeah, great move.
[1:43:35] Speaker 3: Great move.
[1:43:36] Speaker 1: Great move.
[1:43:37] Speaker 2: When I seen that they lost, I was.
[1:43:38] Speaker 4: Like, oh, shit.
[1:43:38] Speaker 7: Yeah, but you didn't win. So, not so great move.
[1:43:42] Speaker 3: Not so good.
[1:43:44] Speaker 2: Obviously, it's a tough Eastern Conference. Hornets are going to
[1:43:46] Speaker 2: be likely vying for one of those playing spots. Every
[1:43:49] Speaker 2: game matters.
[1:43:50] Speaker 4: Yeah, but you got to.
[1:43:51] Speaker 2: What was Melo's numbers for that game?
[1:43:53] Speaker 3: It was horrible. It was bad.
[1:43:55] Speaker 1: What's horrible?
[1:43:55] Speaker 2: 12 digits?
[1:43:56] Speaker 1: 12 and 5. 13 shots, 3 for 13.
[1:43:57] Speaker 7: That's not bad.
[1:43:57] Speaker 3: Three minutes left. He didn't score the whole second half. Gil,
[1:44:00] Speaker 3: you know better than I do.
[1:44:02] Speaker 1: Three minutes left. I can get my mojo going and
[1:44:09] Speaker 1: get us back in the game.
[1:44:10] Speaker 3: And that's, how old is this coach? Yeah. Charles Lee.
[1:44:14] Speaker 1: Yeah. I can get my shit. I'm me. I can
[1:44:17] Speaker 1: make some mistakes early, but I know we need to
[1:44:19] Speaker 1: get this win in the game.
[1:44:20] Speaker 3: The Joe Mazzola school of.
[1:44:21] Speaker 1: He from Joe?
[1:44:23] Speaker 2: He's with the Celtics.
[1:44:25] Speaker 3: He's 40 years old.
[1:44:27] Speaker 2: Yeah, it makes sense.
[1:44:27] Speaker 1: He looked like one of the militants. I make my
[1:44:30] Speaker 1: bed up in the morning at 5 a.m.
[1:44:31] Speaker 2: He was with the Celtics last season. He was with
[1:44:34] Speaker 2: the Bucs for five years as well. Won a chip
[1:44:36] Speaker 2: with the Bucs and won a chip with the Celtics
[1:44:37] Speaker 2: as an assistant coach.
[1:44:40] Speaker 3: Boone Hoser, Missoula. The problem here, this is the problem.
[1:44:45] Speaker 3: The problem is this. He's a superstar for a reason.
[1:44:50] Speaker 3: He's a big He's a big shot maker, right? Trey
[1:44:58] Speaker 3: played great, but the star is the star for a reason.
[1:45:04] Speaker 3: He has something the other person don't. That means no
[1:45:08] Speaker 3: matter what happened, the first 44 fucking minutes, that erases
[1:45:15] Speaker 3: out of a star's mind, and it becomes another game.
[1:45:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, the last three minutes.
[1:45:19] Speaker 3: The last three minutes is another game. It's like zero
[1:45:23] Speaker 3: and zero. And that's what you took away from your team.
[1:45:28] Speaker 3: You took away the star ability right there, the playmaking,
[1:45:32] Speaker 3: the precision. The rest of the game don't matter. He
[1:45:35] Speaker 3: had a horrible go at it.
[1:45:37] Speaker 2: Redemption time.
[1:45:39] Speaker 3: The last three minutes is where it happened. When I
[1:45:40] Speaker 3: hit the famous game winner against the Bulls, that game winner,
[1:45:45] Speaker 3: I was 3-4 for fucking 15 at that point, having
[1:45:49] Speaker 3: a horrible go at it. The ball was supposed to
[1:45:52] Speaker 3: go to Larry. Larry was having the hot end. Well,
[1:45:56] Speaker 3: this is what I do, though.
[1:45:57] Speaker 1: What I do, though.
[1:45:58] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:45:59] Speaker 1: Give me that bitch.
[1:46:00] Speaker 3: Short-term memory, I probably missed the last nine shots. 0
[1:46:04] Speaker 3: for 6.
[1:46:04] Speaker 1: On the three.
[1:46:05] Speaker 3: None of that shit goes in my brain. It's game time.
[1:46:08] Speaker 3: They need me. Game time.
[1:46:09] Speaker 1: Let's go.
[1:46:10] Speaker 3: A star player don't have to be on fire for
[1:46:14] Speaker 3: the last shot.
[1:46:15] Speaker 4: No, I was built for this.
[1:46:17] Speaker 1: And that's what he think. Think about how he walk
[1:46:20] Speaker 1: into the bench.
[1:46:21] Speaker 4: I don't care about the first half. I want the block.
[1:46:23] Speaker 3: He walk into the bench.
[1:46:25] Speaker 2: Looking up at the clock.
[1:46:26] Speaker 1: Yeah. And he like, I know what he's, he's saying,
[1:46:29] Speaker 1: I know he not taking me out. Yep. Yep. I
[1:46:32] Speaker 1: know that's what he's saying. Walker, I know he not.
[1:46:34] Speaker 2: Taking me out.
[1:46:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:46:35] Speaker 3: What's up? Yeah, yeah.
[1:46:36] Speaker 2: Okay, good.
[1:46:37] Speaker 3: 326.
[1:46:38] Speaker 1: All right, he must be giving me a little break.
[1:46:39] Speaker 1: He must be giving me a little break.
[1:46:41] Speaker 2: He picked up his fourth foul, but even with 340
[1:46:43] Speaker 2: to go, that's irrelevant.
[1:46:44] Speaker 1: He completely irrelevant. Completely, yeah. None of that. Man, if
[1:46:49] Speaker 1: he was that upset at Lomelo for making a turnover
[1:46:51] Speaker 1: or whatever it was, and you ain't got no time
[1:46:54] Speaker 1: out to make it right, You just take him out.
[1:46:57] Speaker 3: Yo, time out. Hey, fucking focus, man.
[1:46:58] Speaker 4: Yeah, that's it.
[1:46:59] Speaker 3: Sit there and focus. Get your shit right. So this
[1:47:02] Speaker 3: is what we're going to do, blah, blah, blah.
[1:47:03] Speaker 4: That's it.
[1:47:04] Speaker 3: All right, go in.
[1:47:06] Speaker 1: Soon as the game starts, you ready?
[1:47:08] Speaker 3: Go to the goddamn day. That's how that works, man.
[1:47:12] Speaker 3: This is not a time to prove fucking points. Why
[1:47:15] Speaker 3: do coaches want to prove points at game time? I
[1:47:18] Speaker 3: don't give a fuck what you tell me during the game.
[1:47:23] Speaker 3: Fuck you, coach this and this. You my best player?
[1:47:26] Speaker 3: You're going to get in there and you're going to
[1:47:27] Speaker 3: win this game. When this motherfucking game over with, God
[1:47:30] Speaker 3: damn it, you're about to get on that line. I'm
[1:47:31] Speaker 3: going to prove the point in practice. I'm not proving
[1:47:35] Speaker 3: it in a game. I'm not sitting you for a game.
[1:47:38] Speaker 3: The game reflects my fucking contract. It reflects my stat.
[1:47:45] Speaker 3: I can prove a point where it don't affect neither
[1:47:48] Speaker 3: one of us. This is not a time to see
[1:47:51] Speaker 3: who got the bigger Johnson right here. Right? In the game,
[1:47:56] Speaker 3: God damn it, you. In practice, God damn it, me.
[1:47:59] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:48:04] Speaker 3: I don't get it.
[1:48:04] Speaker 7: I don't understand.
[1:48:09] Speaker 1: That one. God.
[1:48:10] Speaker 3: It's a bad move. Hopefully, he... I mean, you know,
[1:48:13] Speaker 3: rookie coaches, they try. And he still lost the game.
[1:48:15] Speaker 4: And he still.
[1:48:18] Speaker 3: Lost the game. He lost the game because he started...
[1:48:20] Speaker 3: ain't there.
[1:48:20] Speaker 5: Right.
[1:48:21] Speaker 4: The question becomes, Coach, why you ain't have him in
[1:48:22] Speaker 4: the game?
[1:48:23] Speaker 3: All the players are sitting there like... They sitting on
[1:48:27] Speaker 3: the bench like.
[1:48:28] Speaker 1: Remember, we still do have to fight for the accountability, though,
[1:48:31] Speaker 1: for LaMelo and playing bad. But it's 100% on the
[1:48:35] Speaker 1: coach to make sure that you're not taking him out
[1:48:37] Speaker 1: the game for the game.
[1:48:38] Speaker 3: For the game. For the game. Not for the game.
[1:48:40] Speaker 1: Not for the game. Like, we always say, if you
[1:48:42] Speaker 1: fuck up, and we know it's one of them blatant
[1:48:45] Speaker 1: fuck-ups where it's like, sub, sub him out.
[1:48:47] Speaker 2: Get him out.
[1:48:48] Speaker 1: And we come out, and you're like, God damn, I
[1:48:50] Speaker 1: know I fucked up. Mm-hmm. Come over. Hey, man, come on, man.
[1:48:52] Speaker 3: Get your shit together.
[1:48:54] Speaker 1: All right, now get in there. I just needed to
[1:48:56] Speaker 1: bring you out because you looked like you needed a
[1:48:58] Speaker 1: little breather.
[1:49:00] Speaker 7: And you know his teammates were sitting over there too, like.
[1:49:02] Speaker 2: You lunching over here. What you doing?
[1:49:04] Speaker 3: Why you ain't in the game? What we doing?
[1:49:07] Speaker 1: We only down one.
[1:49:08] Speaker 4: Coach.
[1:49:09] Speaker 1: We down one.
[1:49:10] Speaker 3: Coach, what you doing? You know what makes it funny?
[1:49:14] Speaker 3: He subs him out for a turnover and a foul.
[1:49:17] Speaker 3: Soon as Trey get in, offensive foul.
[1:49:21] Speaker 2: For Trey?
[1:49:21] Speaker 3: Trey might have gave up something like six to eight points.
[1:49:24] Speaker 3: And that's the same turnover. Then came in, very next play,
[1:49:27] Speaker 3: missed the layup.
[1:49:30] Speaker 2: Two turnovers.
[1:49:31] Speaker 3: Missed the layup.
[1:49:32] Speaker 2: Three.
[1:49:33] Speaker 3: Offensive tip, got his own rebound, and then he tipped
[1:49:35] Speaker 3: it back in. So he had the two points off
[1:49:42] Speaker 3: an offensive rebound.
[1:49:43] Speaker 2: Three turnovers.
[1:49:44] Speaker 3: So you subbed the man out. You subbed the man
[1:49:49] Speaker 3: out for... Two turnovers and a layup?
[1:49:53] Speaker 4: For missing a shot.
[1:49:54] Speaker 1: And those are three possessions within three minutes of the
[1:49:57] Speaker 1: fourth quarter.
[1:49:58] Speaker 3: No, what I'm saying is, like, I subbed my star
[1:49:59] Speaker 3: player out to get back two turnovers from the guy.
[1:50:07] Speaker 3: Two all, I would have went two for what? Because
[1:50:10] Speaker 3: one for three, four, because he was.
[1:50:11] Speaker 2: Trying to tip the ball back in. Yeah, one for four.
[1:50:15] Speaker 3: I take my chance on my star player to do
[1:50:16] Speaker 3: that shit.
[1:50:17] Speaker 1: He had four possessions, though, in three minutes. The sub,
[1:50:24] Speaker 1: not your franchise guy, in the fourth quarter, three minutes ago.
[1:50:27] Speaker 2: It's a tournament two for seven in the fourth quarter.
[1:50:29] Speaker 2: In those eight minutes that he played total, two for seven,
[1:50:31] Speaker 2: have five points.
[1:50:32] Speaker 3: Two for seven. What did he have in the last?
[1:50:34] Speaker 3: It's the last, that second survey guy. Because he was
[1:50:37] Speaker 3: probably in at the beginning. Give me one second. Coaches
[1:50:49] Speaker 3: make mistakes, man, but, you know, it's one of those
[1:50:51] Speaker 3: you just got to learn from. We all do, but.
[1:50:52] Speaker 1: How.
[1:50:54] Speaker 4: Long has that coach been a head coach?
[1:50:57] Speaker 3: He just got there.
[1:50:59] Speaker 4: His first head coaching job?
[1:51:01] Speaker 2: First head coaching job in the league.
[1:51:03] Speaker 1: It just seemed like he took that L so easy. Like,
[1:51:06] Speaker 1: he was cool with taking that L and making that point.
[1:51:09] Speaker 1: That's what I don't like about it. I don't like
[1:51:10] Speaker 1: coaches that are snark and arrogant about trying to prove
[1:51:14] Speaker 1: a point about showing up your best player. There's ways
[1:51:17] Speaker 1: to do it where LaMelo now, he could, if he
[1:51:20] Speaker 1: was this type of player, be on some... Fuck coach, man.
[1:51:25] Speaker 3: Fuck coach.
[1:51:26] Speaker 1: You ain't about to embarrass me like that unless they
[1:51:28] Speaker 1: had a conversation.
[1:51:29] Speaker 3: Fuck coach, man. He could be like, you know what?
[1:51:31] Speaker 3: Gotta come in here and be like, I want to
[1:51:33] Speaker 3: move back to LA. No, that's what you need. As
[1:51:36] Speaker 3: a rookie coach, you got to go in there and say, hey, y'all,
[1:51:40] Speaker 3: I fucked up. My bad.
[1:51:41] Speaker 1: My bad. For sure. That's all it takes.
[1:51:45] Speaker 3: For some reason, motherfuckers can't do that. All it takes
[1:51:49] Speaker 3: is to walk in.
[1:51:50] Speaker 2: There and say, I fucked up.
[1:51:51] Speaker 1: I fucked up.
[1:51:52] Speaker 3: Accountability. My bad, Melo.
[1:51:55] Speaker 1: My bad, Melo.
[1:51:55] Speaker 3: Melo, please. For real.
[1:51:57] Speaker 1: It never happened again.
[1:51:58] Speaker 3: It never happened again.
[1:51:58] Speaker 1: Never happened again.
[1:51:59] Speaker 2: That's it.
[1:52:00] Speaker 3: Your star player will be cool, cool, no problem. You
[1:52:03] Speaker 3: know what I mean?
[1:52:04] Speaker 4: Yep.
[1:52:04] Speaker 3: He ain't going to make no smart remarks. And you
[1:52:07] Speaker 3: ain't got to worry about him again because he knows
[1:52:09] Speaker 3: you already stood up, took some accountability for the move.
[1:52:13] Speaker 3: You didn't mean to make him look bad in front
[1:52:15] Speaker 3: of his teammates. It's all clear. But, nah, they don't
[1:52:19] Speaker 3: want to do that shit.
[1:52:19] Speaker 1: LaMelo on the phone like, all right, y'all can get
[1:52:22] Speaker 1: away from this crib now, man.
[1:52:23] Speaker 2: Everything cool.
[1:52:25] Speaker 3: Y'all can get away from this crib.
[1:52:26] Speaker 1: We apologize, man. Jello waiting for him.
[1:52:29] Speaker 3: What's up, Jerry?
[1:52:31] Speaker 1: What's up, Jerry?
[1:52:34] Speaker 2: Don't piss off LaVar or Jello, but I wanted to
[1:52:37] Speaker 2: ask you guys, have you ever been in a situation
[1:52:39] Speaker 2: like this when you were in the league or in college,
[1:52:42] Speaker 2: and how do you handle it?
[1:52:47] Speaker 3: That... It.
[1:52:52] Speaker 2: Feels like mind games. I don't know.
[1:52:53] Speaker 3: Again, the Mellor averaged 11 points in the fourth quarter.
[1:52:56] Speaker 2: I definitely dealt with it.
[1:52:58] Speaker 3: I'm going to be honest. I was blessed with coaches
[1:53:01] Speaker 3: that did not... They did not try to prove points, right?
[1:53:06] Speaker 3: I had... My high school coach obviously didn't try to
[1:53:10] Speaker 3: prove no points. Luke.
[1:53:14] Speaker 3: Now, my behavior off the court did not stop him
[1:53:18] Speaker 3: from putting me in the game. Didn't even. Muscleman, do
[1:53:26] Speaker 3: your thing. Eddie Jordan, same thing. So I never had to,
[1:53:29] Speaker 3: if I'm playing bad, even though I'm playing bad, all
[1:53:31] Speaker 3: they'll say is, I need one shot. Can you make
[1:53:35] Speaker 3: the one shot?
[1:53:36] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:53:37] Speaker 3: Take it.
[1:53:38] Speaker 4: That's it.
[1:53:38] Speaker 3: I never had that.
[1:53:41] Speaker 1: I'm not going to tell, you know, I'm not blaming
[1:53:43] Speaker 1: or nothing.
[1:53:43] Speaker 2: I was going to share my story.
[1:53:45] Speaker 1: Hey, I'm just going to share the story.
[1:53:47] Speaker 3: Share the story, big dog.
[1:53:49] Speaker 1: Freshman year, coach told me, if Dean Smith can stop
[1:53:55] Speaker 1: Michael Jordan from averaging more than 20, I can stop you.
[1:54:00] Speaker 1: And I averaged 17. After averaging 21, my freshman year. Okay,
[1:54:06] Speaker 1: I get your point, coach.
[1:54:07] Speaker 3: Good.
[1:54:07] Speaker 2: I got the message. Second year comes along. Come out, sub.
[1:54:13] Speaker 2: I'm on the bench, trying to catch my breath.
[1:54:16] Speaker 1: Somebody dive on a loose ball. Everybody get up. I'm
[1:54:19] Speaker 1: the only one still. I just subbed out. I hadn't
[1:54:22] Speaker 1: got up.
[1:54:23] Speaker 2: Coach seen it.
[1:54:24] Speaker 1: I hadn't got up.
[1:54:27] Speaker 3: Go to the locker room.
[1:54:28] Speaker 1: Kick me off the bench. Because you were tired. First half. Tired, boss.
[1:54:33] Speaker 3: Wow.
[1:54:34] Speaker 1: You all going to cheer for your teammates and everything.
[1:54:37] Speaker 1: We're playing against UNC Wilmington. Fast forward to the NBA.
[1:54:46] Speaker 1: Fast forward to the NBA. Went to Vegas. Dating Khloe.
[1:54:51] Speaker 1: Dinner with her family.
[1:54:52] Speaker 2: Flew back. Have a talk with Kevin McHale. Day before practice.
[1:54:58] Speaker 3: Hey, man.
[1:54:59] Speaker 1: Hearing about you dating this girl.
[1:55:00] Speaker 2: Everybody's calling me. Maybe you should get some rest.
[1:55:05] Speaker 3: I guess that's why I only played eight minutes last night.
[1:55:08] Speaker 2: Okay, whatever, brother.
[1:55:09] Speaker 1: 14 games, DMPs. I did not play for 14 straight games.
[1:55:13] Speaker 1: Because of a dinner. Because of a white girl. So,
[1:55:19] Speaker 1: when you talk about coaches fucking with you. Well. You
[1:55:23] Speaker 1: ain't got no answers.
[1:55:24] Speaker 4: Well.
[1:55:24] Speaker 1: You can't talk to nobody because there ain't no union.
[1:55:28] Speaker 3: Yeah, I've been there before.
[1:55:29] Speaker 1: I know what mellow feel like.
[1:55:30] Speaker 7: Maybe if it was a sister, it wouldn't happen.
[1:55:32] Speaker 3: Can I ask you a question?
[1:55:33] Speaker 7: I ain't say that.
[1:55:37] Speaker 3: After your freshman year, why didn't you enter the draft?
[1:55:41] Speaker 1: Because I was being fucked with by the coach, and
[1:55:44] Speaker 1: I knew he was going to try to sabotage if
[1:55:46] Speaker 1: I came out. I was averaging 21 a game as
[1:55:49] Speaker 1: a freshman. I was supposed to be ACC player of
[1:55:51] Speaker 1: the year, freshman of the year. He benched me for
[1:55:53] Speaker 1: three straight games. He found a way to bench me
[1:55:56] Speaker 1: to decrease my scoring average.
[1:55:58] Speaker 3: I know, but.
[1:56:00] Speaker 4: You still could have entered the draft.
[1:56:01] Speaker 1: Nah, because 17, at that time, it was Josh Howard.
[1:56:04] Speaker 1: It was a bunch of, like, that was Jason Williams
[1:56:06] Speaker 1: and all of them.
[1:56:07] Speaker 3: Mello.
[1:56:08] Speaker 2: That was my freshman year.
[1:56:09] Speaker 1: That was Mello, D-Wade, Ron. Yeah, that's right.
[1:56:12] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:56:12] Speaker 1: I had the pedigree for it, but it was the coach.
[1:56:16] Speaker 1: All the shit with the coaching dynamic. He got fired
[1:56:20] Speaker 1: before the summer even evolved. So I had a bad
[1:56:23] Speaker 1: stigma on my name at that point. Like, oh, yeah,
[1:56:26] Speaker 1: he's getting Coach Doherty fired.
[1:56:28] Speaker 2: And all this shit, so... It wasn't going to work.
[1:56:30] Speaker 3: Like, that's what I said. Like, nobody would have told
[1:56:32] Speaker 3: you you would have been top 10 still.
[1:56:33] Speaker 1: Yeah, I told you. My second year, I was supposed
[1:56:35] Speaker 1: to come out.
[1:56:35] Speaker 3: No, I mean, not necessarily talking about your freshman year. Nah,
[1:56:37] Speaker 3: it wasn't no talk because I wasn't thinking about going.
[1:56:39] Speaker 3: I'm going to say you averaged like 17 for a freshman.
[1:56:42] Speaker 1: Like, that's... Bro, like I said, I was averaging 21.
[1:56:47] Speaker 1: The last three games of the season, I was already killing.
[1:56:51] Speaker 2: Freshman. Killing.
[1:56:53] Speaker 3: Because Dwyane Wade was a junior, right? Yeah.
[1:56:56] Speaker 4: Your freshman year?
[1:56:57] Speaker 3: Yeah, Kirk Heinrich. Like, you would have been.
[1:57:01] Speaker 3: TJ Ford was young, right? Yep.
[1:57:02] Speaker 1: TJ did freshman year.
[1:57:03] Speaker 3: Yeah, see, that's what I said. That was your high
[1:57:06] Speaker 3: school class?
[1:57:07] Speaker 2: No, he was before me. He was before me.
[1:57:11] Speaker 3: No, he was a freshman.
[1:57:12] Speaker 2: TJ was a freshman.
[1:57:14] Speaker 3: No, we all, no.
[1:57:15] Speaker 1: TJ was Carlos Hurt in them years. He was DeJuan
[1:57:19] Speaker 1: Wagner in them.
[1:57:20] Speaker 2: Yeah, that was TJ. We was after him.
[1:57:24] Speaker 3: He was your high school class? So he went two
[1:57:26] Speaker 3: years in college? Yeah. I mean, I'm not going like
[1:57:32] Speaker 3: Luke Rittenhour, Marcus Banks, Beatrice. All them. All them.
[1:57:37] Speaker 2: All them.
[1:57:38] Speaker 3: Wow.
[1:57:38] Speaker 1: My pedigree wasn't thinking about the league because it was
[1:57:40] Speaker 1: never a goal. I was just like, I'm at Carolina.
[1:57:43] Speaker 1: I'm chasing Mike. I need to check off these boxes.
[1:57:46] Speaker 1: So it is what it is. But I know about
[1:57:49] Speaker 1: the coaches. I know what he's feeling. I know what
[1:57:51] Speaker 1: he could feel. But I think he'll take the bigger role.
[1:57:54] Speaker 1: He'll have the upper management deal with it. What upper,
[1:58:00] Speaker 1: LeVar or Hornets upper? Hornets, yeah. Y'all can get me
[1:58:03] Speaker 1: out of here or get him out of here, one
[1:58:04] Speaker 1: or the other.
[1:58:05] Speaker 2: Big baller brand to the rescue.
[1:58:07] Speaker 3: The French Jordan, I remember him.
[1:58:09] Speaker 1: Petrus, yeah.
[1:58:10] Speaker 3: I used to bust it. Oh, my God.
[1:58:12] Speaker 2: I used to look for him.
[1:58:13] Speaker 3: Oui, oui, oui.
[1:58:15] Speaker 1: I got something for you. What?
[1:58:17] Speaker 3: I got to taste this. I got to test this imitation.
[1:58:20] Speaker 3: Put your tongue back in. Yeah.
[1:58:24] Speaker 1: He was all big, brawly.
[1:58:25] Speaker 3: He was strong. Come here. Come here. I sold the
[1:58:28] Speaker 3: shit out there, too. Come here.
[1:58:30] Speaker 2: Did you ever have a situation like this?
[1:58:33] Speaker 3: It was a French kid. They called him... Damn. Damn.
[1:58:38] Speaker 3: Them French motherfuckers has been coming in the league.
[1:58:40] Speaker 1: Yes, Batum's been here for a long time.
[1:58:45] Speaker 3: Them French motherfuckers has been in this league a long time.
[1:58:48] Speaker 3: Because they black, so we don't be paying attention. We
[1:58:51] Speaker 3: don't be paying attention.
[1:58:52] Speaker 4: Man, I just, yeah.
[1:58:53] Speaker 3: All right. No. Cool.
[1:58:59] Speaker 4: I heard you.
[1:59:00] Speaker 2: At no point, nobody tried to.
[1:59:03] Speaker 3: Is this why you can't talk?
[1:59:05] Speaker 4: No, I'm not saying that.
[1:59:07] Speaker 3: Why would they do that to me? But I probably
[1:59:09] Speaker 3: had a couple of games. Stop.
[1:59:10] Speaker 6: I probably had a couple of games where I did it.
[1:59:16] Speaker 4: Right?
[1:59:16] Speaker 7: Like, just shit wasn't going right.
[1:59:18] Speaker 4: And I was like, coach, like, give me out.
[1:59:21] Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, yeah.
[1:59:21] Speaker 1: Oh, you, okay.
[1:59:21] Speaker 4: Not for a long time. Just give me help for
[1:59:24] Speaker 4: a minute.
[1:59:24] Speaker 1: It's just a minute, huh?
[1:59:25] Speaker 4: Five minutes go by. I'm like, coach, I'm ready.
[1:59:28] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:59:28] Speaker 3: You sub yourself in. You sub yourself in. And I
[1:59:31] Speaker 3: was like, no. Oh, so it was kind of like
[1:59:33] Speaker 3: rec league, right? You sub yourself out in there, huh?
[1:59:36] Speaker 1: The culture's just there.
[1:59:38] Speaker 6: Sometimes you have that game where you start and shit
[1:59:42] Speaker 6: just ain't going right.
[1:59:44] Speaker 7: I was like, you know what?
[1:59:45] Speaker 4: I need a restart.
[1:59:46] Speaker 2: I'm playing for the other team.
[1:59:47] Speaker 4: I'm playing for the other team.
[1:59:48] Speaker 1: It was so funny.
[1:59:49] Speaker 3: He with us. He with us.
[1:59:50] Speaker 4: You be sitting there like.
[1:59:54] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[1:59:55] Speaker 3: Wide open layup. You already missed four, got the steal. Right?
[1:59:59] Speaker 1: I'm just like, man, get me out.
[2:00:02] Speaker 3: I'm like, get me out.
[2:00:03] Speaker 4: Listen, but don't leave me over here that long.
[2:00:06] Speaker 6: Just get me out for a couple of plays and
[2:00:07] Speaker 6: I'm good.
[2:00:08] Speaker 3: I used to go, listen, when I happen, when I know, like,
[2:00:11] Speaker 3: This shit is rough tonight. I'm going to take a shower,
[2:00:14] Speaker 3: change everything. Oh, you go to the locker room. Go to, like, say, Coach,
[2:00:17] Speaker 3: or halftime, I go in there and shower.
[2:00:20] Speaker 1: I got to get this shit off. I don't know.
[2:00:23] Speaker 1: What is this?
[2:00:25] Speaker 3: New Jersey, new shoes, socks, everything.
[2:00:27] Speaker 2: Nah, that's facts.
[2:00:29] Speaker 3: I got to turn it around because... This outfit right here?
[2:00:32] Speaker 1: It ain't working. This ain't it.
[2:00:33] Speaker 3: This is one for 30 right now.
[2:00:35] Speaker 1: With the shoes you wore, you like, oh, it burned them.
[2:00:37] Speaker 3: Run for 30, 12 turnovers. It'd be like that regular pass.
[2:00:40] Speaker 3: I would give that shit a minute.
[2:00:41] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
[2:00:42] Speaker 7: I'd be like, time out.
[2:00:43] Speaker 1: I was like, go get my shoes.
[2:00:44] Speaker 3: Pick them up.
[2:00:45] Speaker 1: Yeah, give me the other ones. Go get my shoes.
[2:00:46] Speaker 3: Fast break pass. You throw the motherfucker all the way
[2:00:48] Speaker 3: up there. Oh, with those cold hands and shit.
[2:00:50] Speaker 1: You're like, damn, what's.
[2:00:51] Speaker 3: Wrong with my hands tonight?
[2:00:53] Speaker 1: Sticky fingers.
[2:00:55] Speaker 2: Must be nice, guys.
[2:00:56] Speaker 3: Must be. No, no. Must be nice.
[2:00:58] Speaker 7: No, that wasn't nice.
[2:00:59] Speaker 2: I'm just saying. I didn't have that luxury. They was
[2:01:04] Speaker 2: doing me like Bronny. Get in for this eight seconds, nigga.
[2:01:09] Speaker 2: And I'll pay the hundred for that one.
[2:01:10] Speaker 1: You paid the hundred?
[2:01:10] Speaker 3: I will.
[2:01:12] Speaker 2: Eight seconds, what I'm going to do? You fucking the
[2:01:13] Speaker 2: stats up now. But game is the game. Make a
[2:01:19] Speaker 2: deal with the dude on the other team. Let me shoot,
[2:01:21] Speaker 2: I'll let you shoot.
[2:01:22] Speaker 3: But anyway.
[2:01:24] Speaker 2: Nuggets were without reigning MVP Nikola Jokic for the third
[2:01:26] Speaker 2: straight game as they played their second straight game in
[2:01:28] Speaker 2: Memphis after losing to the Grizzlies Sunday. But Jamal Murray
[2:01:31] Speaker 2: and Michael Porter Jr. picked up the slack, and Russell
[2:01:33] Speaker 2: Westbrook made some history to get the Nuggets back on
[2:01:37] Speaker 2: the right track.
[2:01:37] Speaker 4: Let's go, Russell.
[2:01:39] Speaker 2: So Jamal Murray led the Nuggets with 27.6 rebounds and
[2:01:42] Speaker 2: four assists, going 10 for 20 from the field, five
[2:01:45] Speaker 2: for 10 from deep. MPJ had 24 points and 11 boards.
[2:01:47] Speaker 2: Christian Brown added 19.7 rebounds, three steals. But this was
[2:01:51] Speaker 2: about Russell Westbrook, ladies and gentlemen. Huss Westside, as he's
[2:01:54] Speaker 2: known in Los Angeles. Westbrook played 32 minutes off the bench,
[2:01:57] Speaker 2: messed around and dropped his 200th career triple-double, finishing with
[2:02:02] Speaker 2: 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists. Westbrook is the
[2:02:06] Speaker 2: first player in league history with 200 triple doubles, accomplishing
[2:02:10] Speaker 2: the feat in 1,175 games. Joker is the closest current
[2:02:16] Speaker 2: active player. Joker is in fourth place. all-time with 136
[2:02:19] Speaker 2: triple-doubles in 685 games.
[2:02:21] Speaker 3: I'm sorry about that. I'm just reminding, like, when shit
[2:02:24] Speaker 3: is going bad, right, and then you look at this play,
[2:02:28] Speaker 3: and I keep, like, I see why when Westbrook be
[2:02:31] Speaker 3: going horrible for him, because some of the passes he
[2:02:33] Speaker 3: be making, when that shit is horrible, that shit horrible, dog,
[2:02:37] Speaker 3: like the little bank, right?
[2:02:39] Speaker 1: That's the time of the bad boy. You never seen
[2:02:42] Speaker 1: Trying to shake somebody below the free throw line and
[2:02:44] Speaker 1: then make it like if he missed that shot off
[2:02:46] Speaker 1: the ground.
[2:02:47] Speaker 3: That's the one where you like Dale. He hit the
[2:02:49] Speaker 3: side of the backboard us. That's the day this shot
[2:02:52] Speaker 3: right here That's the day what he's he's off. Yeah
[2:02:55] Speaker 3: Don't allow them up for going all the way out
[2:02:57] Speaker 3: about I'm just looking at the players like Get me, Coach. Yeah,
[2:03:01] Speaker 3: those are the Westbrook moments where he'd be like.
[2:03:03] Speaker 2: And those moments get elevated and amplified.
[2:03:05] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. More than any other. Because the passes
[2:03:09] Speaker 3: he's making.
[2:03:11] Speaker 1: Ah, ah.
[2:03:11] Speaker 3: Turnover, turnover. Turnover. We like, damn.
[2:03:13] Speaker 1: Charge. Out of bounds.
[2:03:16] Speaker 3: Off the foot.
[2:03:18] Speaker 1: Get him out. About to get him.
[2:03:20] Speaker 3: Fast break, air ball layup. Damn. Damn.
[2:03:22] Speaker 1: Westbrook, 200 triple doubles, 1,175 career games.
[2:03:28] Speaker 2: Obviously, it's weird, you know, obviously, the second player in
[2:03:31] Speaker 2: Bay history averaged triple-double, first player to do it for
[2:03:33] Speaker 2: multiple seasons. For some reason now, they don't give triple-doubles
[2:03:37] Speaker 2: the respect they deserve, but does Westbrook deserve more credit
[2:03:41] Speaker 2: for his triple-double record? Only player in league history with
[2:03:44] Speaker 2: 200 triple-doubles any era. Did the guy before him get credit?
[2:03:51] Speaker 3: Yeah. Big O?
[2:03:52] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[2:03:53] Speaker 2: And he deserves the credit?
[2:03:54] Speaker 4: He does. Like, It's hard. A triple-double is hard.
[2:03:59] Speaker 2: But I feel like Wilk probably got like 300, 400,
[2:04:00] Speaker 2: and they just weren't.
[2:04:02] Speaker 3: Oh, back then... Well, so back then, he would have had... I.
[2:04:06] Speaker 1: Forgot.
[2:04:07] Speaker 3: It was like 700 quadruple-doubles.
[2:04:10] Speaker 4: That's crazy.
[2:04:11] Speaker 3: Yeah, because they said... That's crazy. They said, stat-wise, if
[2:04:15] Speaker 3: they kept the stat, he would have averaged 14 blocks.
[2:04:17] Speaker 4: That's crazy.
[2:04:20] Speaker 1: So....
[2:04:21] Speaker 3: Because if you're averaging 14 blocks for his career, I mean,
[2:04:26] Speaker 3: thinking about all the triple-doubles where he had 10 assists,
[2:04:28] Speaker 3: those would have been quadruple-doubles, so it would have been crazy.
[2:04:31] Speaker 3: He would have been first, and then Miss Layups would
[2:04:36] Speaker 3: have been second. Bill Russell. Bill Russell. Actually, he's not
[2:04:40] Speaker 3: Miss Libs. That's them there. That's Mikey. That's George Mikey.
[2:04:44] Speaker 3: That's George Mikey.
[2:04:45] Speaker 1: Thank you, Gil. Show some respect.
[2:04:46] Speaker 3: That's George Mikey.
[2:04:47] Speaker 2: He was doing the Mikey drill because he was trash.
[2:04:49] Speaker 2: They made a drill after him because you need to
[2:04:51] Speaker 2: work on your legs, dog.
[2:04:52] Speaker 3: But this is why you have to. Just go right
[2:04:54] Speaker 3: here and then go right there. This is where you
[2:04:55] Speaker 3: have to give it credit. It wasn't done. It wasn't
[2:05:04] Speaker 3: done since the 70s?
[2:05:07] Speaker 1: 60s? Oscar was in the 60s, I believe.
[2:05:09] Speaker 3: Since the 60s? You're telling me all the greats that
[2:05:12] Speaker 3: came through that were trying, you don't think Jordan was
[2:05:17] Speaker 3: thinking about trying it or anybody who had the capability, magic,
[2:05:21] Speaker 3: when he was doing it? Like, J. Kid, like, he
[2:05:26] Speaker 3: had an engine that allowed him to do it. And
[2:05:29] Speaker 3: the problem with it was, it reminds me of James
[2:05:32] Speaker 3: White in the dunk contest. It looked so easy, they
[2:05:41] Speaker 3: didn't know how to grade it.
[2:05:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, was she talking about the McDonald's one?
[2:05:44] Speaker 3: All of them. Every time I looked in the dunk contest.
[2:05:46] Speaker 1: They was giving him like a nine in there.
[2:05:49] Speaker 3: Motherfucker jumping from the free throw line like this. 50.
[2:05:52] Speaker 1: He come in there like, yeah, yeah, yeah. Two hands.
[2:05:57] Speaker 3: 45. 45. Like, wait, what? Between the legs. 38. Like,
[2:06:02] Speaker 3: come on, y'all. And that's what it is. He made
[2:06:06] Speaker 3: the triple-double look so easy that they said, anybody can
[2:06:12] Speaker 3: just do it. All you got to do is just...
[2:06:15] Speaker 3: Catch your stats. You just got to go in there
[2:06:17] Speaker 3: and just rebound. And just go rebounding.
[2:06:20] Speaker 1: And pass the ball.
[2:06:22] Speaker 3: If it was that fucking easy, why everybody didn't? You
[2:06:25] Speaker 3: remember when LeBron was tapping into it? They was making
[2:06:29] Speaker 3: a point that, you know, 28-7-7, 28-8-7. And the idea
[2:06:35] Speaker 3: of LeBron can be the first one to do it
[2:06:38] Speaker 3: became a thing. And then when a guy who you
[2:06:41] Speaker 3: guys don't look at as a natural score did it,
[2:06:46] Speaker 3: He's patting stats.
[2:06:48] Speaker 1: By metric, it would make Westbrook the best or the
[2:06:52] Speaker 1: greatest point guard of all time. Seeing that the double-double
[2:06:57] Speaker 1: points and assists, Chris Paul, John Stockton, right, is the
[2:07:01] Speaker 1: one thing that was pretty much valued as much as
[2:07:04] Speaker 1: anything from the point guard position. How many double-doubles can
[2:07:07] Speaker 1: you get? Can you average a double-double?
[2:07:10] Speaker 3: Yeah. Right?
[2:07:11] Speaker 1: But Westbrook averaged a triple-double. at the point guard position.
[2:07:17] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[2:07:17] Speaker 1: So, he did that how many times? Three?
[2:07:22] Speaker 2: What?
[2:07:22] Speaker 1: Four.
[2:07:23] Speaker 3: He averaged triple-double?
[2:07:24] Speaker 5: Four.
[2:07:24] Speaker 3: Four times he averaged a triple-double. Four times.
[2:07:27] Speaker 1: At the point guard position.
[2:07:28] Speaker 4: Average.
[2:07:29] Speaker 1: Now, we talking about the double-double being the metric of
[2:07:32] Speaker 1: highest from a point guard. So, how can Westbrook not
[2:07:37] Speaker 1: be all the way up here at 200 triple-double?
[2:07:41] Speaker 3: With a 30-point triple-double.
[2:07:43] Speaker 1: None of y'all can reach him. None of y'all. Magic,
[2:07:45] Speaker 1: all y'all. You can't come back to get more triple
[2:07:48] Speaker 1: doubles than him. You can't come back and make it
[2:07:50] Speaker 1: look better than him. He made it look so easy
[2:07:53] Speaker 1: that we just stopped looking at it.
[2:07:56] Speaker 3: You know what it is, man? When you talk about
[2:07:58] Speaker 3: the point guard position, it's very different than what it
[2:08:04] Speaker 3: was before. And people don't realize magic is the one
[2:08:08] Speaker 3: who ruined the image of a point guard. That's where
[2:08:14] Speaker 3: the image of a point guard was ruined forever. Back before,
[2:08:19] Speaker 3: it was just a guy who didn't really.
[2:08:23] Speaker 2: Control it, move it. He controlled it.
[2:08:25] Speaker 3: And then you got a 6'9 dude that was a
[2:08:29] Speaker 3: small four that had the vision better than the point, right?
[2:08:34] Speaker 3: That can do all of it. And because he was
[2:08:37] Speaker 3: so unselfish, everybody wanted that. That is a unicorn. You
[2:08:46] Speaker 3: can't get that.
[2:08:49] Speaker 1: Right?
[2:08:50] Speaker 3: You can't get Michael Jordan. You can't get Shaquille O'Neal.
[2:08:54] Speaker 3: You can't get LeBron. You can't get Kobe. You can't
[2:08:57] Speaker 3: get Wimby. There's just fucking people you just can't recreate.
[2:09:01] Speaker 3: But that was the problem. They wanted this purity of
[2:09:04] Speaker 3: a point guard who passed the ball, but they didn't
[2:09:09] Speaker 3: realize it was a small forward who just had fucking vision.
[2:09:14] Speaker 3: Just like Jokic, you can't find another sinner that's going
[2:09:19] Speaker 3: to be able to do what he do. So don't
[2:09:21] Speaker 3: go there looking for it because you wasn't looking for
[2:09:24] Speaker 3: it when it came.
[2:09:25] Speaker 1: Right.
[2:09:25] Speaker 3: That was his ability.
[2:09:27] Speaker 1: So then when you talk about the original point guard assessment,
[2:09:30] Speaker 1: you're looking at John Stockton.
[2:09:32] Speaker 3: So John Stockton.
[2:09:33] Speaker 1: Isaiah Thomas. The smaller ones. If you're saying he a unicorn,
[2:09:37] Speaker 1: let's take him out.
[2:09:39] Speaker 3: You take him out.
[2:09:40] Speaker 1: Now look at all the point guards other than Magic Johnson.
[2:09:44] Speaker 2: They all have something in common.
[2:09:45] Speaker 3: So it'd be the Jason Kidds, the Chris Pauls, the
[2:09:49] Speaker 3: Steve Nash, Mark Jacksons, right? So somebody like Oscar Robertson
[2:09:53] Speaker 3: and Westbrook, they don't belong in this category.
[2:09:57] Speaker 1: Or they belong at the top of it, and we
[2:09:59] Speaker 1: try to save everybody else.
[2:10:01] Speaker 3: No, but what I'm saying is these are the two guys,
[2:10:04] Speaker 3: like this new guard, my era guard that was coming in.
[2:10:10] Speaker 3: It's unfair for us.
[2:10:14] Speaker 3: But it's unfair for the pure point. You can't compare
[2:10:18] Speaker 3: the two because what Westbrook is going to have over
[2:10:22] Speaker 3: the Magic Johnsons is he's going to have more rebounds
[2:10:24] Speaker 3: and more assists because of how he plays the game.
[2:10:26] Speaker 3: I mean, more rebounds and more points. Because how he
[2:10:29] Speaker 3: plays the game. They're going to have more assists. Because
[2:10:32] Speaker 3: how they play the game.
[2:10:33] Speaker 2: Because the structure of the game.
[2:10:34] Speaker 3: Because the structure of the game. So it's hard to
[2:10:37] Speaker 3: say who's the best point guard ever. It should just
[2:10:39] Speaker 3: be a whole other category.
[2:10:40] Speaker 1: Because what you just said is the system that allows
[2:10:43] Speaker 1: Westbrook to create. Well, not Westbrook, but who did you
[2:10:47] Speaker 1: say before that?
[2:10:48] Speaker 3: Oscar. Oscar.
[2:10:49] Speaker 1: So when you're looking at how Westbrook creates, not with his...
[2:10:55] Speaker 1: but with his athleticism and his speed and his down court,
[2:10:58] Speaker 1: he can get the easy man open. That attributes to
[2:11:00] Speaker 1: his IQ level. He doesn't need the structure to get
[2:11:04] Speaker 1: the assists. He can still get 10 assists a game.
[2:11:07] Speaker 1: He can still get 10 rebounds a game. So my thing,
[2:11:11] Speaker 1: knock was on Westbrook, wasn't on him. It was on
[2:11:13] Speaker 1: Steven Adams. Because if you got a rebound in big
[2:11:16] Speaker 1: and you're still getting 10 boards, that says something different
[2:11:20] Speaker 1: than your big averaging six or seven or eight and
[2:11:22] Speaker 1: you're averaging 11 or 12, that means that he's doing
[2:11:25] Speaker 1: what Jason Kidd was telling people to do. Box out, go,
[2:11:28] Speaker 1: I got the rebound, we'll push ahead.
[2:11:31] Speaker 3: The Brooke Lopez. I'll box my guy out, you get
[2:11:33] Speaker 3: the rebound.
[2:11:37] Speaker 2: I got a new outlook on the point guard position now.
[2:11:39] Speaker 3: It's just weird. If somebody asks me, and they think
[2:11:44] Speaker 3: it's weird, but it's the only way I can make
[2:11:47] Speaker 3: it make sense, the best point guard is Magic.
[2:11:52] Speaker 1: Right?
[2:11:53] Speaker 3: Now, if you say the best guards, that means now
[2:11:56] Speaker 3: my combo type of guards can go into the category.
[2:11:59] Speaker 3: I will have Steph in front of Magic.
[2:12:01] Speaker 1: Right?
[2:12:02] Speaker 3: So I'll say, you know, Steph is part of my
[2:12:04] Speaker 3: top five, but Magic is my number one point guard.
[2:12:06] Speaker 3: How's that? Because the purity of the point guard position
[2:12:10] Speaker 3: is this. Right? He added something that this guy didn't have.
[2:12:16] Speaker 3: This guy has something he don't. So they can't compare
[2:12:18] Speaker 3: to each other. I can't compare Shaq to Jokic. Two
[2:12:22] Speaker 3: different skill sets. You know what I mean? So there's
[2:12:25] Speaker 3: things you're going to be, Jokic is going to have
[2:12:28] Speaker 3: more assists than Shaq. You can't do that. Because that's
[2:12:33] Speaker 3: what he's adding to a game that wasn't here before.
[2:12:36] Speaker 1: Statistically, stat man, stat man. Russell Westbrook is the greatest
[2:12:41] Speaker 1: point guard of all time.
[2:12:43] Speaker 2: Statistically.
[2:12:45] Speaker 3: Statistically.
[2:12:46] Speaker 2: Statistically.
[2:12:47] Speaker 4: Yeah, if he's averaged a triple-double.
[2:12:49] Speaker 2: Statistically, there's no debate about it.
[2:12:51] Speaker 3: No, you're right. If you're talking about, yeah.
[2:12:53] Speaker 1: The ability shit that we do have an argue about,
[2:12:56] Speaker 1: where Steph's in there and all the other ones, and
[2:12:58] Speaker 1: we got to actually have a conversation about magic really
[2:13:01] Speaker 1: being in there as a point.
[2:13:03] Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, now we have a conversation.
[2:13:04] Speaker 1: But statistically, if we go like LeBron being the greatest
[2:13:07] Speaker 1: from a statistical, we can't debate it.
[2:13:10] Speaker 3: He's number one.
[2:13:11] Speaker 2: 22, 8, and 7 in his career. Excuse me, Westbrook, 22.
[2:13:15] Speaker 2: Eight and seven in his career, but that's 1,175 games. Obviously,
[2:13:18] Speaker 2: those numbers... Whoa, whoa, whoa. Then he wouldn't be.
[2:13:21] Speaker 3: Okay, so I guess we have to do it just how, like,
[2:13:24] Speaker 3: Underdog does it, right? Where you do it by totals, right?
[2:13:30] Speaker 3: What is the totals you bring into the game? Meaning anybody, like,
[2:13:34] Speaker 3: let's say Steve Nash averages 17 and 12, right?
[2:13:38] Speaker 1: Right?
[2:13:38] Speaker 3: So you're sitting around about 29, 30-something points plus a
[2:13:42] Speaker 3: little rebound. So his totals would be like, what, 41 maybe? Yeah,
[2:13:47] Speaker 3: like 36, 37.
[2:13:47] Speaker 2: Yeah, but with a little bit of rebound.
[2:13:50] Speaker 1: And then add some three. Oh, you're saying points, rebounds, assists. Points, assists,
[2:13:54] Speaker 1: and rebounds. Okay.
[2:13:55] Speaker 3: Now they have to do it like that to see
[2:13:58] Speaker 3: who generated the most production. Now you're talking about you're
[2:14:03] Speaker 3: sitting here with the Luka.
[2:14:05] Speaker 1: Because remember, Luka got the point. Are you just doing points, rebounds,
[2:14:08] Speaker 1: and assists, or are you adding defensive efficiency?
[2:14:12] Speaker 3: See, the problem is the defensive efficiency is so tricky.
[2:14:14] Speaker 2: You got Magic 20, 11, and 7 in his career.
[2:14:17] Speaker 3: So his points, rebounds, assists can move you. So he's
[2:14:19] Speaker 3: sitting around about 40-something points. See, the problem is this
[2:14:23] Speaker 3: new school, the way the game is being played, they
[2:14:25] Speaker 3: have more points and like two or three. So they're
[2:14:28] Speaker 3: averaging like 10, 11 more points but they're only three
[2:14:33] Speaker 3: or four sets behind.
[2:14:34] Speaker 2: And it's offset, it's offset in all of the.
[2:14:36] Speaker 3: And they're throwing a rebound. So, like, Luka's sitting at, like,
[2:14:39] Speaker 3: 50-something points. Westbrook is sitting at something about 50-something points.
[2:14:45] Speaker 1: That's the capabilities of getting you a triple-double and getting
[2:14:47] Speaker 1: this amount of points every night.
[2:14:49] Speaker 3: Luka, Westbrook. Yeah, so that's how you have to do
[2:14:53] Speaker 3: it to see who is the most, who put the
[2:14:56] Speaker 3: most production.
[2:14:57] Speaker 6: That's why the comparisons are difficult. Or when people say, well,
[2:15:01] Speaker 6: who's the best point guard of all time?
[2:15:04] Speaker 7: I think it's unfair.
[2:15:07] Speaker 3: Yeah. It really is. Because it really has nothing to
[2:15:13] Speaker 3: do with championships it just should be production what is
[2:15:17] Speaker 3: the production what are you getting out of the individual itself.
[2:15:22] Speaker 1: But it also should have a framework of what that
[2:15:25] Speaker 1: player style is because player style matters darren williams in
[2:15:30] Speaker 1: comparison to chris paul similar styles and then you got
[2:15:35] Speaker 1: dame lillard compared to russell westbrook.
[2:15:38] Speaker 3: Or dame lillard like actually dave different styles yeah different different.
[2:15:41] Speaker 1: Styles so it's like westbrook style is one of a
[2:15:44] Speaker 1: kind Yep. So when you put his style up against CP,
[2:15:49] Speaker 1: Jose Calderon, John Stockton. You don't know how to judge it.
[2:15:52] Speaker 1: But you have to judge it with style. Because now
[2:15:54] Speaker 1: you're like, well, they both give you production the same,
[2:15:56] Speaker 1: but look how he does it in comparison to he
[2:15:59] Speaker 1: does it. He does it with structure and system. He
[2:16:03] Speaker 1: does it with athleticism, brute strength, and intimidation. Which one
[2:16:07] Speaker 1: would you prefer?
[2:16:08] Speaker 3: Damn.
[2:16:10] Speaker 2: I always love having these great conversations with y'all.
[2:16:14] Speaker 3: Y'all want to hear something? So, a great, this is
[2:16:22] Speaker 3: a great. Now, we're talking about top tier, like one
[2:16:26] Speaker 3: or two, like in the world of their sport. Guess what?
[2:16:34] Speaker 3: Their kid, their kid want to ask me about the
[2:16:42] Speaker 3: sport that their parent is a great end over their parent.
[2:16:48] Speaker 3: That's crazy, right? Like, imagine, like, Bronny James wanna ask
[2:16:53] Speaker 3: me about basketball, but his father's Bronny James.
[2:16:57] Speaker 2: Right?
[2:16:57] Speaker 3: That's crazy, right?
[2:16:58] Speaker 1: Where are you going with this?
[2:17:02] Speaker 3: The truth. Huh? No, I'm just saying, you know what
[2:17:06] Speaker 3: I mean? You know what I mean? Somebody want to
[2:17:08] Speaker 3: talk to me after me and talk about some basketball,
[2:17:10] Speaker 3: you know?
[2:17:11] Speaker 4: Come on.
[2:17:13] Speaker 3: What's happening?
[2:17:14] Speaker 6: I wonder why your back is turned today.
[2:17:16] Speaker 3: Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
[2:17:18] Speaker 1: It's you, sir?
[2:17:19] Speaker 4: It's okay.
[2:17:20] Speaker 3: Uh, uh, uh. It's your son want to talk to
[2:17:23] Speaker 3: me about basketball. You know what I'm saying?
[2:17:25] Speaker 4: My son was like, Mom, you're doing gills today? I
[2:17:27] Speaker 4: was like, yeah. He was like, oh, uh, I need
[2:17:29] Speaker 4: to talk to him. First, I was like, you don't
[2:17:32] Speaker 4: even know him.
[2:17:32] Speaker 1: Yes, I do.
[2:17:35] Speaker 3: You know him.
[2:17:35] Speaker 1: I know him because you know him.
[2:17:37] Speaker 4: Listen, you know I got in my feelings. I was like,
[2:17:39] Speaker 4: hold on a minute. I was like, what do you
[2:17:41] Speaker 4: need to talk to Gil about?
[2:17:42] Speaker 7: He was like, Mom, some basketball stuff.
[2:17:45] Speaker 4: For real, I was like, son, what do you need?
[2:17:48] Speaker 1: Right?
[2:17:49] Speaker 2: I got you.
[2:17:49] Speaker 3: I got you. like, talk to me. I got you.
[2:17:51] Speaker 3: And then he was like, Mom.
[2:17:53] Speaker 4: So I was like, what do you need? What is
[2:17:55] Speaker 4: your question? I'll ask him.
[2:17:57] Speaker 6: So he's like, Mom, no, can you just ask him
[2:18:00] Speaker 6: if I can talk to him? And if he says yeah,
[2:18:02] Speaker 6: then call me and I'll ask him. Like, I was
[2:18:05] Speaker 6: really in my feelings.
[2:18:06] Speaker 3: Shout out to Jordan Jackson. G League dunk contest winner 2024.
[2:18:10] Speaker 2: Still doing his thing.
[2:18:11] Speaker 3: That's it.
[2:18:11] Speaker 1: There's just shit.
[2:18:12] Speaker 3: You just can't. I can't touch your mama. I can't. No,
[2:18:16] Speaker 3: not that.
[2:18:17] Speaker 4: But he was like, I just got a couple questions.
[2:18:19] Speaker 3: A couple questions.
[2:18:19] Speaker 4: So the first question, he was like, I just need
[2:18:21] Speaker 4: to talk to him.
[2:18:22] Speaker 6: Okay, so he now is with the Chicago, Windy City
[2:18:25] Speaker 6: Bulls G League team.
[2:18:27] Speaker 4: So he was like, I just need.
[2:18:28] Speaker 6: To talk to him and find out what his mentality
[2:18:31] Speaker 6: was with certain things.
[2:18:34] Speaker 4: I was like, well, ask me. He's like, Mom.
[2:18:38] Speaker 6: Can you just ask him if I can talk to him?
[2:18:40] Speaker 1: Mom.
[2:18:40] Speaker 6: I said, Gil, can you talk to my son, please?
[2:18:43] Speaker 7: I don't want to know nothing else.
[2:18:45] Speaker 3: Mike, he can't ask you. Yeah, so, you know, going
[2:18:48] Speaker 3: in the G League and coming off the bench, she
[2:18:49] Speaker 3: was like, well, I never did none of that, so
[2:18:51] Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know nothing about how to
[2:18:52] Speaker 3: deal with that. I don't know what the bench looked like.
[2:18:54] Speaker 1: What is that? What is that?
[2:18:58] Speaker 3: That's like the little cheering section where they do when
[2:19:00] Speaker 3: I score buckets.
[2:19:01] Speaker 1: They got the pom-poms out, yeah. I was like, I'll call.
[2:19:05] Speaker 4: Him before we start, and then he don't answer the phone.
[2:19:07] Speaker 4: So I was like, well, it can't be that important.
[2:19:09] Speaker 4: He texted me. He was like, Mom, call me back.
[2:19:12] Speaker 3: Is this a certain role you just think about?
[2:19:14] Speaker 7: I'm done. I'm going to do my part. I'm going
[2:19:16] Speaker 7: to let you.
[2:19:18] Speaker 4: But you know what? You didn't have to bring it up.
[2:19:20] Speaker 4: You didn't have to bring it up like that.
[2:19:22] Speaker 1: I should have known when he did the back turn.
[2:19:24] Speaker 4: You saw the back. I got all of it.
[2:19:26] Speaker 3: No, because I'm like, it's about to end. I got
[2:19:28] Speaker 3: an important call.
[2:19:30] Speaker 1: I got to help out the youth.
[2:19:33] Speaker 6: For a minute, I was like, where is he going
[2:19:35] Speaker 6: with this?
[2:19:36] Speaker 4: Huh, this is interesting.
[2:19:37] Speaker 1: So we asked you about Brandon, though. I was thinking Nick.
[2:19:40] Speaker 1: I was thinking Nick Jr. I thought it was Brandon.
[2:19:43] Speaker 1: I thought Brandon was getting the truth.
[2:19:45] Speaker 3: I can't help Nick, son.
[2:19:46] Speaker 1: It's trash.
[2:19:48] Speaker 2: We asked the chat, does Westbrook belong in the PG
[2:19:51] Speaker 2: GOAT conversation? 65% say yes.
[2:19:53] Speaker 3: Good job, chat. You know, Catherine, very good today. Now
[2:19:56] Speaker 3: let's move on to Mostly Fans. Question. Almost had it.
[2:20:01] Speaker 1: Almost had it.
[2:20:05] Speaker 3: Okay, now here's another guy who's sitting here in different land.
[2:20:11] Speaker 3: Where do you put Harden? One or two?
[2:20:15] Speaker 1: Shooting guards?
[2:20:16] Speaker 3: Or point guards? Or do you put him... See, those...
[2:20:20] Speaker 3: We need a combo guard. We need a combo guard lane.
[2:20:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, a strictly combo guard lane.
[2:20:26] Speaker 4: He wouldn't be at number.
[2:20:27] Speaker 1: One on either one of those lists, though.
[2:20:29] Speaker 3: No, but they got him... What's so funny, they got
[2:20:31] Speaker 3: him third at shooting guards.
[2:20:33] Speaker 2: Which is... Which is.
[2:20:35] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[2:20:36] Speaker 1: Which is right.
[2:20:37] Speaker 3: It's right. D-Wade in front of him or no? Oh,
[2:20:41] Speaker 3: they still got.
[2:20:42] Speaker 7: Yeah, they still got D-Wade.
[2:20:42] Speaker 3: Yeah, shooting guard. Yeah, you're right.
[2:20:43] Speaker 4: You've got to have a combo guard.
[2:20:45] Speaker 3: Where do you put him? If it was combo, he'd
[2:20:47] Speaker 3: be number one.
[2:20:48] Speaker 2: Because of numbers.
[2:20:50] Speaker 3: Wouldn't Westbrook put combo? Like, what were you.
[2:20:52] Speaker 1: I wouldn't put Westbrook combo. What classifies as... I wouldn't
[2:20:56] Speaker 1: put him as combo. You only want to put Westbrook
[2:21:00] Speaker 1: as combo because of his athleticism. he's still a traditional
[2:21:03] Speaker 1: point guard. He's just stronger and faster than all the
[2:21:05] Speaker 1: rest of them.
[2:21:06] Speaker 4: I agree with that.
[2:21:07] Speaker 1: He makes all the traditional plays. He don't do anything.
[2:21:10] Speaker 3: Outside the court. I think because his engine is so
[2:21:13] Speaker 3: powerful that he's going and he's already there, even though
[2:21:18] Speaker 3: he wants the pass, he's there. He's like, I got
[2:21:20] Speaker 3: to score. Yes, man.
[2:21:21] Speaker 1: That's what the brilliance about him is. He knows the difference,
[2:21:24] Speaker 1: but I think he gets caught up in all the
[2:21:27] Speaker 1: bullshit around it and sometimes takes his.
[2:21:29] Speaker 3: Eye off of the ball.
[2:21:31] Speaker 2: But, yeah, statistically, Westbrook is definitely up there. Well, now
[2:21:35] Speaker 2: let's move on to Mostly Fans. We're presented by Underdog.
[2:21:37] Speaker 2: Download the app, use promo code GIL, get up to
[2:21:39] Speaker 2: $ 1, 000 in bonus cash plus a special pick-em. So our
[2:21:42] Speaker 2: question today is from Underdog user PabloJuan96.
[2:21:46] Speaker 3: PabloJuan. PabloJuan96.
[2:21:48] Speaker 2: I hear you guys often refer to guys as just
[2:21:51] Speaker 2: working out to work out or simply saying they haven't
[2:21:54] Speaker 2: gotten any better in the offseason. What did your offseason
[2:21:57] Speaker 2: training consist of? I love this question.
[2:22:05] Speaker 3: For me, personally, I looked at what my weaknesses were.
[2:22:15] Speaker 3: What was my actual weaknesses that I need to improve on?
[2:22:19] Speaker 3: And then at the beginning of the summer, I attacked that. Like,
[2:22:23] Speaker 3: I really was aggressive with, you know, working on my
[2:22:26] Speaker 3: left hand, working on, like, midis, like, going left, moving left,
[2:22:31] Speaker 3: stepping left. Like, just for me personally, like, trying to add, like,
[2:22:39] Speaker 3: when they say add something every year, that is the concept.
[2:22:42] Speaker 3: Something you don't have in your bag, right?
[2:22:45] Speaker 2: If you.
[2:22:46] Speaker 3: If this is what I look like, I have the
[2:22:48] Speaker 3: right side, I can move right, and then I start
[2:22:50] Speaker 3: opening up the left, think about my game itself. It
[2:22:53] Speaker 3: becomes a full circle thing where I'm a complete player.
[2:22:57] Speaker 3: So that should be the idea. So that's how I trained.
[2:23:00] Speaker 3: I trained in trying to be a complete player offensively.
[2:23:04] Speaker 3: A complete offensive player. If I'd be like, okay, man,
[2:23:09] Speaker 3: I wasn't moving without the ball, then going into that summer...
[2:23:12] Speaker 3: I'm going to play off the ball the whole summer.
[2:23:15] Speaker 3: Just working on back cutting, back dooring, moving, conditioning is
[2:23:19] Speaker 3: going to be part of my regimen.
[2:23:22] Speaker 1: The most enjoyable part about training was the shot making,
[2:23:35] Speaker 1: the preparation, the analyzing. I made sure that it wasn't
[2:23:45] Speaker 1: so much about getting shots up and doing.
[2:23:49] Speaker 2: Individual drills and moves.
[2:23:51] Speaker 1: It was more about understanding where my place was in
[2:23:53] Speaker 1: the offense and how I could take most advantage of
[2:23:57] Speaker 1: my opportunities within the offense. A lot of times guys
[2:24:00] Speaker 1: get caught up in training for things they're never going
[2:24:03] Speaker 1: to do in the game, and they waste time. And
[2:24:06] Speaker 1: if you're not assessing your game inside of the game
[2:24:09] Speaker 1: and knowing where your shots can come from, you're not
[2:24:12] Speaker 1: going to be efficient. So I prided myself on being
[2:24:15] Speaker 1: efficient within the concept of the game, the plays, and.
[2:24:18] Speaker 3: The whole nine.
[2:24:19] Speaker 1: So I didn't focus on so much dribbling the ball.
[2:24:22] Speaker 1: I didn't do a lot of ball handling because I
[2:24:24] Speaker 1: wasn't the point guard. Point guard has the ball in
[2:24:26] Speaker 1: his hand most of the time. When I catch it,
[2:24:28] Speaker 1: I shoot it. So my focus was shot making. It
[2:24:30] Speaker 1: wasn't being in the gym shooting a bunch of shots.
[2:24:33] Speaker 1: It was being in the gym making a bunch of shots.
[2:24:35] Speaker 1: So I would be in the gym 45 minutes if
[2:24:37] Speaker 1: I needed to, and I made 92% of my shots.
[2:24:40] Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
[2:24:42] Speaker 2: I know I'm sharp.
[2:24:43] Speaker 1: I know I could correct on real time and I
[2:24:46] Speaker 1: ain't wasting time in the gym. If I want to
[2:24:48] Speaker 1: be in the gym three hours, I'm definitely not being
[2:24:50] Speaker 1: in there shooting 300,000 shots and only making 25% of
[2:24:53] Speaker 1: them just to say I'm in the gym. So I
[2:24:57] Speaker 1: did a lot of my work early in college. So
[2:24:59] Speaker 1: when I got to the league, my bag, I had
[2:25:02] Speaker 1: to put stuff back in the bag because I didn't
[2:25:05] Speaker 1: need a lot of the shit because I wasn't going
[2:25:06] Speaker 1: to use it inside the offense. So I think that's
[2:25:10] Speaker 1: the best part of training to me, attention to detail,
[2:25:13] Speaker 1: going through all of those progressions, and making shots.
[2:25:17] Speaker 3: Being a shot maker is probably the best feeling.
[2:25:21] Speaker 2: Cheryl, over to you.
[2:25:24] Speaker 6: Yeah, I probably did a lot of what Gil did.
[2:25:27] Speaker 6: The stuff that I was really good at, I worked
[2:25:32] Speaker 6: on it just to keep it sharp, but not focusing
[2:25:35] Speaker 6: so much on that. For me, it was about what
[2:25:39] Speaker 6: my weaknesses were, what I wasn't that good at, But
[2:25:42] Speaker 6: also knowing how my defenders were going to guard me.
[2:25:45] Speaker 6: I always worked on like counter moves and counter to
[2:25:51] Speaker 6: a counter. And like Rashard, I didn't spend a whole
[2:25:56] Speaker 6: lot of extra time in the gym working on shit
[2:25:58] Speaker 6: that I knew I really wasn't going to do.
[2:26:01] Speaker 4: I didn't.
[2:26:02] Speaker 6: But I know a lot of people now, they'll go
[2:26:04] Speaker 6: to the gym, and they're in there for five hours.
[2:26:06] Speaker 7: You come out, and you haven't gotten any better.
[2:26:08] Speaker 1: Any better at all.
[2:26:09] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[2:26:10] Speaker 1: Wasted time.
[2:26:10] Speaker 3: Playing against cones.
[2:26:12] Speaker 1: Unbelievable.
[2:26:12] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[2:26:14] Speaker 3: That's what I said, three, four hours. They don't even
[2:26:15] Speaker 3: use chairs anymore, cones. They use, like, these fake defenders.
[2:26:18] Speaker 1: There's, I call it, you know.
[2:26:23] Speaker 3: You're just out, you're just working out. You got to
[2:26:25] Speaker 3: work out. You didn't get better. Like, you spent two hours,
[2:26:29] Speaker 3: you did these drills here and there, ran up and down,
[2:26:31] Speaker 3: got a little dunk, got a little what? Like.
[2:26:34] Speaker 6: And then the season started, and you're still doing the
[2:26:36] Speaker 6: same thing.
[2:26:37] Speaker 3: You've been doing two days, two days, all summer doing that,
[2:26:42] Speaker 3: and then you get into the season, and you didn't
[2:26:45] Speaker 3: get better. You didn't, you wonder why... shit ain't because
[2:26:49] Speaker 3: you're not, you're not going, you're not trying to get
[2:26:52] Speaker 3: great at something.
[2:26:53] Speaker 1: And that was what I loved about my third year.
[2:26:56] Speaker 1: My third year was a reflection of me focusing on
[2:27:00] Speaker 1: where I was going to get my shots. I felt
[2:27:03] Speaker 1: so comfortable that third year because I knew if I
[2:27:06] Speaker 1: mastered these positions and these possessions, I was going to
[2:27:10] Speaker 1: get 15, 20 a game. And it was like, I'm
[2:27:13] Speaker 1: coming off the bench with no pressure. But it also
[2:27:16] Speaker 1: goes to what type of training partners you choose. And
[2:27:19] Speaker 1: I want to give a shout out to Jamal Lavelle,
[2:27:22] Speaker 1: which is a.k.a.
[2:27:23] Speaker 2: Dashletics.
[2:27:25] Speaker 1: He was one of the guys who understood how to
[2:27:27] Speaker 1: be a sponge and learn what players want from training.
[2:27:32] Speaker 3: Right.
[2:27:32] Speaker 1: When we want to be sharp, you don't come in
[2:27:34] Speaker 1: with a plan for us. You come in and listen
[2:27:37] Speaker 1: to our plan, what we want to do. he was
[2:27:40] Speaker 1: perfect for that and right now he's the biggest trainer
[2:27:42] Speaker 1: in the world he's working with all the top guys
[2:27:45] Speaker 1: so i want to give a shout out for him
[2:27:46] Speaker 1: for being a sponge and learning what the players need
[2:27:49] Speaker 1: we want to train a certain way to be sharp
[2:27:53] Speaker 1: And if you got a trainer that can do that,
[2:27:54] Speaker 1: that's what's going to happen. Dash?
[2:27:57] Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Dash was the guy. When I
[2:28:01] Speaker 3: retired and we was in the gym, and I remember
[2:28:06] Speaker 3: he was doing something, working out with someone, and I
[2:28:09] Speaker 3: got up and I said, hey, can I chime in?
[2:28:14] Speaker 3: And I said, no offense, but when you're coming off,
[2:28:18] Speaker 3: You can shoot the ball. So what he's kind of
[2:28:20] Speaker 3: teaching you is kind of opposite of you.
[2:28:22] Speaker 2: Yeah. Right?
[2:28:23] Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure you was a guard that didn't really
[2:28:25] Speaker 3: shoot the ball, so that's how they're going to play you.
[2:28:28] Speaker 3: He was. A guy playing like this, they're going to
[2:28:29] Speaker 3: hard show. They're going to do this. So you have
[2:28:31] Speaker 3: to pull and then go like that. And then Dash,
[2:28:35] Speaker 3: at the end, he was like, man, I appreciate that, man.
[2:28:37] Speaker 3: And what else did you see? And that's crazy because
[2:28:40] Speaker 3: I really... Interrupt I could have written like he could
[2:28:43] Speaker 3: have really been offended like yo, don't be coming Yeah, yeah, yeah,
[2:28:46] Speaker 3: that's like a man. What else? What else tell me more?
[2:28:49] Speaker 3: I'm practice I'm training against this this this and then
[2:28:51] Speaker 3: I'll come there every day and I'm working with him
[2:28:54] Speaker 3: too We'll sit down.
[2:28:54] Speaker 2: For an hour after real spot.
[2:28:56] Speaker 3: Yeah, and then he was like, okay What drills do
[2:28:58] Speaker 3: you have to work on that? So I'm giving him
[2:29:00] Speaker 3: my drills and all that said and and look at
[2:29:02] Speaker 3: him now.
[2:29:03] Speaker 1: And I'm like progression I was there since he got here. Okay,
[2:29:06] Speaker 1: so I seen him when he got off the boat. Yeah,
[2:29:09] Speaker 1: I doing his, he was trying to get in. And
[2:29:13] Speaker 1: all it took was somebody to just pull him to
[2:29:15] Speaker 1: the side and be like, bro, nah, man, I got you.
[2:29:17] Speaker 1: Let me show you this shit. And then he started
[2:29:20] Speaker 1: learning from you. He started learning from Coutinho. He started
[2:29:22] Speaker 1: learning from Trickle Down. And now he was coaching, assistant
[2:29:25] Speaker 1: coaches for the Sparks with Derrick Fisher. So he worked
[2:29:29] Speaker 1: with Lexi. He worked with a lot of people. But
[2:29:31] Speaker 1: at this point, I want to just give him the
[2:29:32] Speaker 1: shout out because I understand the basis of what we're
[2:29:35] Speaker 1: talking about.
[2:29:36] Speaker 3: Where's the Jalen? Where's the Jalen?
[2:29:38] Speaker 1: Brown. Brown.
[2:29:39] Speaker 3: He works with KD, too. Yeah.
[2:29:41] Speaker 1: So, I mean, he get it done, but the training
[2:29:44] Speaker 1: is essential, man. It's essential to what you do in
[2:29:47] Speaker 1: the offseason. Can't cheat the game. Can't cheat the grind.
[2:29:50] Speaker 1: That's a good place for us to stop today, Shot.
[2:29:52] Speaker 1: Appreciate you being here. Cemetery Larry, Dream Killer, Championship Charles.
[2:29:55] Speaker 1: I appreciate you paying me.
[2:29:58] Speaker 3: Coors Light. This man does it. Coors Light. Y'all see
[2:30:01] Speaker 3: you on that Coors Light. A delicious beverage if you're
[2:30:04] Speaker 3: 21 and over. What do you think? I play playing now?
[2:30:07] Speaker 1: Oh, you be drinking beer? Let me pop one then.
[2:30:13] Speaker 2: Okay, shout out Coors Light, sending over some delicious beverage.
[2:30:17] Speaker 2: If you're going to sleep at home, make sure you
[2:30:19] Speaker 2: are 21 or over. Make sure you are 21 or over.
[2:30:23] Speaker 3: We will not be held responsible.
[2:30:24] Speaker 2: I thought you were going to pop this white girl
[2:30:26] Speaker 2: pose to pop out.
[2:30:28] Speaker 3: Like a genie? A genie in the court's life? The
[2:30:30] Speaker 3: white phone popped out.
[2:30:32] Speaker 4: The white phone popped out.
[2:30:33] Speaker 2: Cheryl, we appreciate you being back on the couch. We
[2:30:35] Speaker 2: will see you again tomorrow.
[2:30:36] Speaker 1: Everybody in the chat, we appreciate you pulling up. This
[2:30:39] Speaker 1: has been another episode of Gil's Arena presented by Underdog.
[2:30:42] Speaker 1: We will see y'all tomorrow.
