[0:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Salem, twenty-sixteen.
[0:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A domino's delivery driver tentatively approached the home of a regular.
[0:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He rang the bell, but there was no answer.
[0:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: If it was anyone else's house that might have been so so, but this customer never ignored the doorbell.
[0:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Not once in ten years.
[0:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was clear that something was very wrong.
[0:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Elsewhere a woman found a mysterious package lying on her doorstep, when she opened it, she couldn't believe what was inside, and it chilled her to the core.
[0:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: These tantalizing tans are linked by one thing.
[0:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They'll both make you cry, and I've got plenty more where they came from, so strap-in for some true stories that moved the world to tears.
[0:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was the long distant year of twenty-sixteen in the city of Salem, Oregon, where Kirk Alexander lived, a forty-eight-year-old man and possibly the most passionate pizza partaker of all time.
[1:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, Kirk had been ordering Zah from his favorite outlet Domino's almost every single night.
[1:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: for ten years.
[1:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Jeez.
[1:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Because of this, the pizza re-employee saw Kirk's name flash up on their screens all the time and over the years it got to know him very well.
[1:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So well, in fact, he was like part of the family.
[1:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So when his regular orders suddenly stopped coming in and raised more than a few eyebrows.
[1:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: After not hearing from him for a whopping eleven days, staff started to get really concerned.
[1:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was completely unlike Kirk to go so long without placing an order.
[1:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Had something happened to him, delivery driver Tracy Hamlin was particularly worried, he knew that Kirk suffered from health problems.
[1:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So with permission from his manager, he headed over midship to check on him.
[1:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: When he arrived at around one AM, he could see the lights and TV were on, but no matter how many times he knocked on the door, Kirk never came to answer.
[2:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Something was horribly wrong.
[2:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm sure what to do, Tracy Rang is boss and she made the decision to call the cops.
[2:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What felt like an eternity later, but was really only a few short minutes, the police arrived at Kirk's place.
[2:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And as soon as they did, the silence from inside the house was broken by a desperate plea for help.
[2:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Knowing time was of the essence, the officers popped a trunk of their car, grabbed a battery ram from inside, and lunged it over to the door.
[2:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Then with a tremendous swing, they brought a crashing down.
[2:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Everybody outside, peer through the doorway, and what they saw shocked them to their core.
[2:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Inside was Kirk lying on the floor beside his couch and weekly pleading for help.
[2:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He looked terrible.
[2:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Pale face, shaking, weak, it was obvious to everyone that he'd needed medical attention yesterday.
[2:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Without wasting any more precious time and ambulance was called and Kirk was rushed into nearby Salem Hospital where he was treated in intensive care.
[2:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: After another agonizing way, he was thankfully pronounced stable.
[3:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So when Domino's employees visited him with cards and flowers a few days later, he was as grateful as it's possible to be.
[3:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: See Kirk lived alone, so if it weren't for those staff members who went above and beyond to look out for him, things could have gone very differently.
[3:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Considering he'd been radio silent for eleven days, we had no idea how long he'd been lying there for.
[3:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Perhaps he suffered a stroke?
[3:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Or maybe you ordered from Papa John's wife to stake in his body just couldn't handle it.
[3:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The reality is, we don't know exactly what happened.
[3:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But we do know that if those domino staff hadn't come in the nick of time, Kirk wouldn't be here with us today.
[3:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Amazing, and it just goes to show that a love of pizza is only ever a good thing.
[3:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Stealing is wrong and most thieves know it, but even criminals sometimes have their own forms of moral compass.
[3:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Over in San Bernardino, California, in twenty-thirteen, volunteers at a charity came in one morning to find that their computer towers, monitors, and laptops had all been stolen.
[4:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It appeared that the villains responsible had dropped through a skylight the night before, grabbed what they could and fled.
[4:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Crafting, but stealing from a charity?
[4:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Really?
[4:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The cops started chatting with some drifters around town to find out if anybody knew anything, but got no leads.
[4:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: However, the next morning, the non-profits executive director, Candy Stollings, got a call.
[4:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Apparently, strange activity had been spotted outside the charity.
[4:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Had they been rubbed again?
[4:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Candy Gunner, current race to the scene, when she arrived what she saw on the doorstep, Gabriel Chills.
[4:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The criminals had returned to the scene of the crime and left a big oddly shaped sack in their wake.
[4:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Tenet of Lake Candy approached the sack opened it and received the shock of her life.
[4:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Believe it or not, it was the stolen goods.
[4:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yep, an apologetic note left with the return tag explained that the criminals had no idea who they were stealing from and had left to return the loot once they found out.
[5:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wow.
[5:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's a good thing Candy wasn't there to answer the door when they'd returned or she might have fainted from the shock.
[5:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A lot of people assume convicts are all inherently bad.
[5:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: If you're one of those people, you might feel differently by the end of this tale.
[5:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And Gwynette County jail over in Georgia back in twenty twenty deputy Warren Hobbes was in the middle of a standard security check when he started to feel off.
[5:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Suddenly, Hobbes collapsed, hit his head hard on the floor, and fell unconscious.
[5:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The only other people nearby were their prisoners looking down from their cells and most of them weren't even awake, so things weren't looking good at all.
[5:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Fortunately, for him, though, help would come from an unlikely place.
[5:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Prisoners, Terry Loveless, Walter Whitehead, and Mitchell Smalls had witnessed the entire scenario, and despite what you might expect, they weren't celebrating.
[5:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In fact, they were desperate to help.
[5:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wasting no time that three inmates started banging on their cell doors and shouting as loudly as possible to alert someone, anyone to Hobbes estate.
[6:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But nobody was around.
[6:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: For some reason, whoever should have been watching on CCTV wasn't at their post.
[6:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Just as things were looking really bad, though, something miraculous happened.
[6:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: All the commotion woke the deputy up just enough for him to realize something was wrong.
[6:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In his injured state, though, Homstein realized he was the one that needed help, and instead thought one of the prisoners was in trouble.
[6:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Somehow we managed to pull himself up and use his last bit of strength to press the button to unlock the cells.
[6:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Then he collapsed once more.
[6:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But in the exact moment that doors unlocked, loveless, whitehead and small rush to aside and used his radio to get help.
[6:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: More guards rush to the scene and Hobbes was taken to hospital where he made a full recovery.
[6:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It turns out the officer had suffered a heart attack and without the three convicts quick thinking, he may well have passed away.
[6:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Jeez.
[6:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Talking after the incident, Whitehead said, I don't care if it's a police officer.
[7:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I will do whatever I can to save him, man.
[7:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Obviously, these three unlikely heroes aren't completely bad people, they just make some bad choices in the past.
[7:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: For Warren's sake, I'm kind of glad they did.
[7:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And if there's one thing I can't stand, it's bullies.
[7:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And none are more pathetic than internet bullies.
[7:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And February, twenty-fifteen, post appeared on anonymous image sharing site for Chan mocking a man for what?
[7:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Dancing at a disco?
[7:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Pretty sure that's what discos are for.
[7:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But now the OP just wanted to make fun of the guy's appearance.
[7:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: According to the post, they'd laughed openly at him and snapped a pick as he danced, which stopped the poor dude in his tracks.
[7:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: However, OP's brazen bullying didn't get quite the response they'd been hoping for.
[7:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: As the horrible post gained traction, it got the attention of people both on forechand and off.
[7:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: and everyone was near unanimous land support of the mysterious dancing man.
[7:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Thus began a worldwide search to locate the Bligbuggier and give him a knight he'd never forget.
[8:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: American journalist Cassandra McDonald launched a Twitter campaign with a hashtag, Find Dancing Man, and just one day later somebody posted a snap of them dancing with him.
[8:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It turns out the dancing man was a Londoner named Shano Bryan.
[8:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So Cassandra got in touch with Shawn and invited him down to LA for a colossal dance party thrown specially for him.
[8:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And here's the clincher.
[8:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: One of the party's organizers had sent up a goof on me page and raised over forty thousand dollar stores in donations, meaning Shawn wouldn't have to be a dime.
[8:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Naturally, he graciously accepted his rebocation.
[8:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That would, too.
[8:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: On May, twenty-third of that year over a thousand people turned up to the Avalan Night Club in Los Angeles for the Super Shandeg.
[8:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The megabarty even featured a video message from Ferro Williams and made a grand total of thirty thousand dollars for anti-blaying charities.
[8:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Not too shabby at all.
[8:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's a very satisfying end to a story that all started with some internet scumbag trying to bully someone.
[9:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Dance on my man.
[9:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Dance on.
[9:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In the event of disaster, you need a hero, and who better to save you than a Jedi Knight?
[9:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, former Jedi Petawat in this case, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
[9:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Back in twenty twenty wildfires were ravaging the state of Oregon.
[9:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They were not uncommon there, this particular wildfire season was worse than ever, with over a million acres of land savage, thousands of homes destroyed, and even eleven tragic deaths.
[9:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A five-year-old boy named Carver had seen the devastation on the news and desperately wanted to do something nice for the hard-working firefighters.
[9:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So he focused his mind and used the force to put the fires out, or at least I wish he had.
[9:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Now he actually spoke to his grandma about the mentor he had wanted to give the emergency services something to make them smile.
[9:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So what did he choose?
[9:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, he didn't land on cookies or mug with world's best firefighter on it, oh no.
[10:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He wanted to send them his own baby Yoda doll.
[10:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: If you've been living under a rock, that's the little green Star Wars character from Disney Plus's The Mandalorian.
[10:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Carver marched his doll down to a local donation drive with a note that read, here's a friend for you in case you get lonely.
[10:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Ah, the next day Carver's local fire department received the doll, but they didn't just smile and pop the little green dude on a shelf.
[10:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They made him part of the crew.
[10:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The team took him on calls throughout the rest of the wildfire season, and even started a Facebook group where they posted pics of themselves with him.
[10:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Before long, Carver's gifted become a social media darling, and he'd even traveled to different states to help firefighter's elsewhere.
[10:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Folks just couldn't get enough of the cute little guys adventures.
[10:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And can you blame them?
[10:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Most of all, though, it was the emergency services themselves that truly appreciated the doll.
[10:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was a slice of normalcy that reminded them of home, and all thanks to the kindness of one-five-year-old boy.
[11:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm not crying, it's just the wildfire smoke getting in my eyes.
[11:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: If you've been on many trains, you'll be familiar with the regular calls to mine the gap between the train and the station platform when embarking or disembarking.
[11:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You might have heard it so many times, yeah, hardly acknowledge it.
[11:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But trust me, you should.
[11:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Over at a train station in Saitama, Japan in July of twenty thirteen one commuter didn't follow the golden rule and fell straight down the gap while stepping off the train.
[11:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Cripes.
[11:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: As if this wasn't bad enough already, it was Monday morning rush hour, which is absolutely hectic in and around Sektama, so the chances of anyone even noticing were next and none.
[11:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was a complete miracle then that someone on the platform did notice.
[11:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: After the witness hastily alerted staff, a public announcement was made about the trap woman and something absolutely unbelievable happened.
[11:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: No less than forty people immediately left into action and started pushing the train carriage.
[12:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Now, trains are solid.
[12:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This singular carriage weighed a whopping thirty-two tons, but they can sway slightly back and forth if enough force is put on them.
[12:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: All they needed was for that gap to get a little bigger.
[12:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And amazingly, after a colossal effort, it did.
[12:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The Lord of Health will commuters manage to push the train back just enough for the woman to pull herself up and escape.
[12:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wow.
[12:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Perhaps equally amazing, just eight minutes later, the trains were operating as if nothing had happened.
[12:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's one massive win for our fallen woman and the heroes that saved her, and another for the sheer efficiency of Japan's real network, Cudos.
[12:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: At a Wal-Martin Morse town ten a sea back in twenty twenty two, employees experienced what can only be described as an utterly ridiculous event.
[12:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: When a worker named Lindsay passed by the Pepsi-Vending Machine, she was shocked to hear more than the usual mechanical worrying.
[12:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A faint meow was coming from inside.
[13:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, you heard that correctly.
[13:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Lindsay had absolutely no idea how, but there seemed to be a cat trapped inside.
[13:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This dispenser wasn't one of the glass-fronted ones, so it wasn't like she could just see it chilling in there.
[13:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But unless the machine had an odd new feature, that sound could only mean one thing.
[13:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Confused, but determined Lindsey called the fire brigade and when they arrived, they were just as baffled as she was.
[13:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The fire crew quickly unplugged the machine, removed the back plate, and managed to coax out the animal inside.
[13:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It turns out it wasn't just any old get, and was a tiny kitten.
[13:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I suppose that explains how it got in there in the first place.
[13:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Anyway, the defense this animal was saved and lends he got herself a brand new pet in the process.
[13:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm unsure what she ended up naming the set of Loving Furball, but after Moore's Town Government's Facebook page posted about the story, one commenter suggested Mount Mew.
[13:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: If you buckle up people, you're about to hear the origin story of the one and only ten boy.
[14:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: No, it's not the latest lame Marvel superhero created in a pathetic attempt to drive sales, but a normal boy who dedicated himself to doing good.
[14:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: When senior old Max Lucy's neighbor and friend Rick Abbott tragically passed away due to cancer back in twenty twenty, Max wanted to raise some money for the hospice that it looked after his friend.
[14:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And he had just the idea, before he passed Rick had given Max a tent and told him to have an adventure.
[14:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So Max decided to honor his friend by camping out in his backyard and setting up an online fundraiser.
[14:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was simple, the longer he stayed out the more money he hoped earned for the hospice.
[14:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, this kind gesture would end up going way further than he could have ever expected.
[14:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You see, the fundraiser ended up being really successful.
[14:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm talking thousands of dollars successful.
[14:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Some axe kept going, and going, and before he knew it he'd been out there for five hundred days.
[14:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: By this point he had a whole legion of fans cheering him on, and he'd even been invited to tea with them British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and still the support and cash kept coming.
[15:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In the end, Tent Boy kept on camping for a grand total of three years and wound up raising over seven hundred thousand pounds for Rick's hospice.
[15:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's over eight hundred and seventy thousand dollars.
[15:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: As if that wasn't enough, he was even honored by Queen Elizabeth II.
[15:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wow.
[15:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Unsurprisingly, then the final night of his camp out turned into a huge celebration, where everybody was welcome to join in on the festivities.
[15:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well deserved too.
[15:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I love dogs, but everybody knows they can be a little hard to control sometimes.
[15:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Over in the coastal country of Hampshire in the United Kingdom, things weren't looking good for a little dog named Millie.
[15:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: On one faithful day in January, twenty-twenty-two, the Jack Russell whip it across managed to give her owners the slip well out on a walk.
[16:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Then she managed to give the authorities the slip as well.
[16:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Police, firefighters and coast guards all failed to snag the slip reap up, and time was running out.
[16:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: See Millie had run on to some coastal mud flats, and the tide was coming in.
[16:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So now she was being rapidly surrounded by water, and she was too scared to swim to dry land.
[16:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: If something didn't happen fast, it'd be bye-bye for the poor mutt.
[16:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The team of rescuers were nearby, but with a vast expanse of water between them and the Hound, things weren't looking promising.
[16:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Suddenly, one of the group had a crazy idea.
[16:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She'd seen a family further down the beach that were having a picnic.
[16:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Practically, she rushed over to them and asked if they had any sausages.
[16:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They did.
[16:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The family generously cooped up a weiner and gave it to her, then she ran back to the rest of the team and started putting the plan into fruition.
[16:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: One of them just so happened to have a drone, by attaching the tasty meat onto it with some string and made an effective lure.
[16:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The saucified drone was flown above melee and sure enough, the dog edges couldn't resist the floating feast.
[17:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Without hesitation she jumped into the water and swam after it all the way to safe dry land, where she was finally reunited with her owners.
[17:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, I never thought I'd say the sentence saved by flying sausage.
[17:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's an all-too unfortunate reality that a lot of people simply can't retire at a reasonable age, even if they've worked hard their whole lives.
[17:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: One TikTok or saw this sad truth firsthand back in November, twenty-twenty-two.
[17:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Devin Bonagura worked for a company that sold phones through Walmart, and one day he was on-shift with an elderly woman called Nola.
[17:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was clear that she was working well after she should have been allowed to rest, but she had a mortgage to pay off and had no choice.
[17:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Devon felt terrible for her, so to document the injustice, he took a short video of Noah while they were in the staff room together.
[17:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it's a heartbreaking snapshot into her life.
[17:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: After uploading the clip on the TikTok, it went viral and is now sitting comfortably at over thirty million views.
[18:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Sheepers.
[18:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: and response to all the concerned viewers Devon saw an opportunity to help and set up a go-fun before.
[18:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The goal was ten thousand dollars.
[18:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We'll save to say it was smashed.
[18:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And total sympathetic strangers online donated a staggering one hundred and eighty-six thousand dollars towards getting no out of that Walmart.
[18:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: When Devon handed the fund to her, she was overjoyed.
[18:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But did she immediately retire?
[18:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Unbelievably, no.
[18:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The little one of the continued working through the holiday season to do her part.
[18:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What a woman.
[18:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In January, twenty twenty three, she finally packed it in and is now enjoying the quiet life.
[18:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: All thanks to one man's video with a whole load of internet heroes.
[18:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This wants to you, Nola.
[18:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: One faithful Tuesday afternoon in November of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year
[19:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Naturally, he went to investigate and discovered something horrible.
[19:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: There in the middle of the water was a car, rapidly sinking with its driver trapped inside.
[19:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A huge crowd had gathered, but nobody seemed to be helping.
[19:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: However, as if by magic, Anthony's lifeguard training kicked in and he knew exactly what he had to do.
[19:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wasting no time, he yanked off his prosthetic leg handed it to the nearest person and ran to the rescue.
[19:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wait, what?
[19:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's right, and then he lost his leg in an accident when he was just seventeen.
[19:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But that didn't stop him from being a hero.
[19:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Our determined one-legged lifeguard left straight into the water and tore through it at top speeds straight for the panicking man.
[19:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And a good job, too.
[19:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He got there in the nick of time, ripped the door open and helped the guy out of the vehicle mere moments before it sank.
[19:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Jeez!
[19:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Apparently, the sixty-eight-year-old driver had been attempting to pull over and answer a phone call at the same time when he lost control and crashed into the water.
[20:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So it's amazing luck that Anthony was there to save him.
[20:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And don't worry, he got his leg back.
[20:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Let's be honest, nobody likes moving house.
[20:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But it's a lot less painful if you can wrangle up some help.
[20:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: While in February, twenty twenty-three in a village in the Philippines, one man got the greatest assistance he could have ever hoped for.
[20:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He was elderly and had just lost his wife, so the lonely guy needed somebody to care for him.
[20:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: His children wanted him to move close by, but they lived on the other side of town, so he'd need a little help to get there.
[20:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And no, not just to move his stuff.
[20:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: To move his entire house.
[20:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[20:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Remarkably, the whole village agreed to help, and the endeavor and banded together to lift up his home and carry it all the way there.
[20:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wow, if I was him, I'd have tried to sneakily hitch a lift in it.
[20:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But hold on, hell on earth did they lift an entire house?
[21:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, this wasn't a brick house.
[21:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The old man's home was a traditional nifa hut, a building composed of lightweight natural materials like wooden bamboo which allowed the group to reform this incredible task.
[21:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The tremendous effort isn't uncommon either.
[21:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's a perfect example of Filipino by a neon culture where the whole community comes together to help any member in need.
[21:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Seriously inspiring.
[21:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The journey took two sweat-inducing hours, but the exhausted villagers were treated to a delicious meal by the old man's daughter once the job was done.
[21:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Man, I struggle to get friends to help me move a couch, no way they'd help me move my entire house.
[21:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: How far would you go for a friend?
[21:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Would you lend them that new video game you just got?
[21:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Paper dinner?
[21:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: How about battling a enormous fang monster?
[21:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well college wrestler Kendall Cummings proved that he'd go toe to toe with any beast for his bud.
[21:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well out hunting with his pal Brady Lourry and Shoshone National Forest Wyoming in twenty-twenty-two, the duo found themselves becoming the hunted.
[22:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Everything was going just fine until a huge grizzly bear descended on them out of nowhere and began an aggressive assault on Lourry.
[22:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Both the boys must have been well and truly terrified, but that didn't stop coming from selflessly coming to his friend's rescue.
[22:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like something out of a cheesy action flick, the brave lad did a running jump onto the Grizzlies back and started pulling on the ferocious furball's ears.
[22:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh man!
[22:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A short but very tense battle later and miraculously, the bear-relented, giving the pair a chance to frantically dial nine-one one.
[22:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: then with a little help from some pastors by they made it back to the trail where they were picked up by a search and rescue team.
[22:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They were saved.
[22:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So this utterly bonkers story ends with their boys beaten and bruised, but thankfully alive.
[22:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Phew.
[22:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Nothing like a bit of selfless heroism to make you feel like a lame friend.
[23:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was a swelteringly hot summer's day back in June, twenty-twenty-two in the U.S.
[23:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: state of Georgia.
[23:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Six prison inmates were out doing maintenance work in a local cemetery while a deputy sheriff watched over them.
[23:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Suddenly they were interrupted by a loud thud.
[23:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Turning around the convicts realized that deputy had collapsed in the incredible heat.
[23:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The men were out in the open so they had the perfect opportunity to make their escape or do something much worse.
[23:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But that's not what happened.
[23:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Instead the group immediately ran to the fallen officers aid.
[23:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: One grabbed the cop cell phone and dialed nine one one while the others removed his bulletproof vest to help him cool down.
[23:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In that moment, they didn't care who was in chains and who wasn't.
[23:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: All they wanted to do was help.
[23:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And help they did.
[23:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: An ambulance arrived in time to get the deputy to a hospital where he made a full recovery.
[23:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Phew.
[23:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It turns out he'd actually lost consciousness due to complications from a brain surgery ten years earlier.
[24:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's absolutely fine now, but had those men not acted the way they did, and I could be telling you a very different story.
[24:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But the tale isn't over yet, because they were all nonviolent offenders who didn't pose a threat to the public, the sheriff reckoned they deserved a reward, so he recommended they all receive a reduced sentence for their heroics.
[24:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: and I can't argue it was undeserved.
[24:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: More importantly though, they were thrown a pizza party with homemade desserts.
[24:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Maybe I should start saving some lives if there's a chance of free pizza.
[24:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Thanks for listening to the podcast, we'll see you again next time you'll want to be amazed.
