[0:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: from presidential projections to foretold food scandals, here some of the most shockingly accurate cartoon predictions ever made.
[0:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Personally, I'm completely against gambling.
[0:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Unless you're super lucky, it's probably not gonna pay off, right?
[0:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, it will if your name's Lisa Simpson.
[0:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Back in nineteen ninety-two, this Simpson's season three episode, Lisa the Greek revealed that the family's middle child has an uncanny ability to predict the outcome of football games.
[0:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Homer quickly catches on to this and makes a killing by placing wagers on the matches.
[0:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: At the end of the episode, Lisa correctly predicts the winners of the Super Bowl will be the Washington Red Skins.
[0:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Over in our world, the real Super Bowl aired just days after this episode, and you guessed it, Washington won.
[1:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Spooky, yes, but it kids even spooky here.
[1:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The following year Fox decided to broadcast the episode before the Super Bowl again, with one change.
[1:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The Simpsons team decided to double over new predictions to make the episode more current.
[1:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This time Lisa predicted that the Dallas Cowboys would emerge victorious.
[1:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Amazingly, she was right again, and it didn't stop there.
[1:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The tradition continued for the following two years with Lisa correctly predicting another victory by the Dallas Cowboys followed by one for the San Francisco forty-nineers.
[1:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wow!
[1:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: One Super Bowl prediction is mad enough, but four in a row?
[1:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's absolutely insane.
[1:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I sure hope if there was any betting going on at Simpson's HQ, the staff listened to Lisa.
[1:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Who doesn't love soccer?
[1:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The professional side of this class of game is internationally governed by FIFA, who enforce rules organized tournaments and ensure fair play.
[2:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In twenty fourteen, an episode of the Simpsons aired where FIFA contacts Homer and Askin to step in as a referee because, everybody else capable of doing the job is corrupt.
[2:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Homer accepts and sure enough whilst referring for the twenty fourteen World Cup in Brazil, he's offered countless bribes to influence the outcome of matches.
[2:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Just a year later, massive corruption going all the way to the top of FIFA was uncovered in the real world, mostly centered on, yes what?
[2:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Bribes being accepted by officials in exchange for lucrative contracts or other benefits.
[2:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What makes for the perfect prediction cherry on top of this delicious prophecy cake is the result of the cup.
[2:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Homer calls the final game fairly in Germany when by beating Brazil.
[2:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That same year, Germany would defeat Brazil and become the winners of the cup.
[2:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'll be in in two different games.
[2:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Okay now I'm getting freaked out.
[3:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Maybe Homer was out on the pitch that day.
[3:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: vaguely uncomfortable beauty pageants have become such a mainstay of our culture that they'll probably still be around in a thousand years.
[3:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Futurama seems to agree with me, and the episode the lesser of two evils from the show's second season, a literal mis-universe pageant takes place with contestants from alien planets.
[3:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The only thing is, the host gets the winner wrong.
[3:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He accidentally caused Lila's name before immediately having the TR and bouquet taken back from her and headed to the real winner, much to Lila's disappointment.
[3:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Then, fifteen years after the episode aired, the real live-twenty-fifteen Miss Universe pageant ended with its host, Steve Harvey, announcing Ariadna Gutierrez, Ms.
[3:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Colombia, has the winner.
[3:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But unfortunately for Gutierrez, he got it wrong.
[3:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The actual winner was Miss Philippines, Pia Vertsbach.
[3:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yikes.
[3:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Right there on stage the crown and sash were removed from Gutierrez and handed over to Vertsbach.
[4:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Naturally, Gutierrez was destroyed.
[4:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Man, what a mess.
[4:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The striking similarities to the future of my episode can be ignored, however Vertsbach is in an extraterrestrial purple blob, so the showriders lose points there.
[4:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You'd rightfully be a little peeved if you've finished a meal thinking it was one thing and then discovered afterwards that it was something else entirely.
[4:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I wish I had been told what Shirako was before I child now.
[4:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Anyway, in twenty thirteen, the people of Europe were sent into a frenzy when it came to light that, wait for it, they'd been eating course meat.
[4:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It turned out that meat suppliers across the continent had been using the cheap meat without declaring it and passing it off as beef.
[4:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So it ended up for sale and grocery stores, and, well, I'm sure you can imagine what happened next.
[4:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: However, whilst most people were shocked and outraged by the scandal, the writers of the Simpsons had seen it coming since nineteen ninety-four.
[5:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In an episode from that year, a quick visual gag shows lunch-lady doors reaching into a barrel of assorted horse parts to serve to the kids.
[5:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Say, what?
[5:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yep.
[5:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Pretty weird, right?
[5:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Sure, it's probably just a crazy coincidence, but it's so specific.
[5:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm just glad I don't live in Europe.
[5:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But hey, for those who do, the main thing is that it's all behind us now.
[5:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I love fried chicken.
[5:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Scratch it.
[5:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I could not survive without fried chicken.
[5:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It seems they're apartment from South Park, shares my passion for poultry.
[5:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In the season fourteen episode, medicinal fried chicken, all the KFC locations in Colorado are closed down.
[5:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Shock.
[5:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Or, Cartman can handle this, so the plot of the twenty ten episode has him sourcing the delicious food himself and selling it on the black market.
[5:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A black market for fried chicken.
[6:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's obviously a ridiculous concept, right?
[6:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Right?
[6:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You can probably guess where this is going, and the UK in twenty eighteen over three quarters of the nation's KSC restaurants didn't receive their shipment of stock.
[6:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: creating a very real and devastating fried chicken shortage.
[6:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Man, it doesn't bear thinking about seeing opportunity in the tragedy though, certain savvy sellers went to work posting listings for the suddenly super rare chicken on bidding sites like eBay.
[6:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's staggeringly high prices.
[6:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Man, they're stronger looking good than there's wallet destroyingly good.
[6:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: From Marvel to Star Wars Disney, have bought out so many franchises and companies that they've drawn widespread criticism for trying to monopolize the film and television industries.
[6:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Back in the year, two thousand though, their crusade for media dominance had barely begun.
[6:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Even so, the Simpson saw it coming.
[6:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Then the season ten episode when you dish up on a star, Homer winds up pitching a movie-edited director Ron Howard.
[7:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Howard likes his story so much he decides to steal it and goes to present it to film studio twenty-th century fox.
[7:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Explicitly stating that they're owned by Disney.
[7:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Only they weren't.
[7:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Best War did twenty- seventeen in the Walt Disney Company announced its intention to buy Fox for a colossal seventy-one point three billion dollars, fulfilling the Simpsons seventeen-year-old prophecy.
[7:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Jeez!
[7:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So what happened here was a psychic really working for the show?
[7:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well Rich Apple, the writer of the episode, recalled the gag after hearing about the real-life acquisition.
[7:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It turns out Disney had bought television network ABC a couple of years before the episode aired, so it's stem from a general sense that Disney would own them all one day.
[7:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You can rest assured I won't be getting bought out by Disney anytime soon.
[8:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Though I wouldn't mind becoming the latest princess.
[8:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We've all had that uncomfortable sensation we're being watched by someone.
[8:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well in twenty thirteen computer intelligence consultant Edward Snowden leaked classified NSA documents proving that the U.S.
[8:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: government had been spying on its civilians' conversations.
[8:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was an incredible scandal that made Snowden a criminal in the U.S.
[8:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: enforced him to flee the government's wrath.
[8:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But what's all this got to do with cartoons and predictions?
[8:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, two words, the sense sense.
[8:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Ha, of course.
[8:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Six years before the scandal the Simpsons movie was released, and at our favorite cartoon family find themselves on the run from the US government after uncovering a conspiracy.
[8:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Hmm, already sounds a little familiar, right?
[8:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Anyway, while taking the bus leaves the points out they should keep quiet to avoid attention.
[8:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: March applies that it's totally absurd to think anyone's listening in.
[9:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Turns out, though, the bus drivers are robot that's recording them and transferring the audio straight to the NSA, where it's revealed every conversation in the country's, in fact, being listened to.
[9:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, what?
[9:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's freaky to say the least.
[9:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's worth pointing out that the US government doesn't literally listen to every conversation, and they probably don't have robot bus drivers.
[9:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But they do have their grubby balls on a lot more private data than they'd like you to know.
[9:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This is one prediction I really didn't want to come true.
[9:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Cupcakes, cupcakes, cupcakes.
[9:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: If you have asked for cupcakes popping up all over your Instagram app now, I'm not sorry.
[9:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The point I'm trying to make is our microphone enabled smart devices are always listening, and will even tailor advertisements towards conversations you've had.
[9:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This sort of technology has become super prevalent in the last few years, yet Futurama predicted it way back in two thousand one.
[10:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In the season three episode, look of the fryish, fry believes his brother has stolen his name.
[10:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: While trying to research the subject on the internet, Professor Farndsworth says fry out loud.
[10:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: His browser response finding a helpful movie about Philip J. Frye, but also opening his calendar to Friday and ordering french fries.
[10:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: which not only predicted voice-activated devices, but also the annoying habit they have of misunderstanding what we're telling them.
[10:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Nowadays, the tech is everywhere from smartphones to smart speakers.
[10:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Unfortunately, it's not advanced enough yet to instantly order franchise.
[10:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Man, now I'm hungry.
[10:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: If there's one thing people seem to like more than enjoying art, it's censoring it, so that other people can't.
[10:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Enter the nineteen ninety Simpson's episode, Itchy and Scratchy and Marge.
[11:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it misses has to science that the kid's favorite cartoon, Itchy and Scratchy, is too violent.
[11:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So she campaigns to censor the show, and ultimately ends up insensing the town so much that they censor everything.
[11:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Even Michelangelo's classic art piece David, with a pair of fans.
[11:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Now David has been at the center of censorship discussions for a long time.
[11:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Many versions of the statue have a fig leaf covering David's own, little Michelangelo.
[11:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What this episode really predicts is the discussion on clothing the artwork.
[11:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In twenty sixteen twenty six years after it aired a sculpture exhibition was set up over in St.
[11:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Petersburg, Russia, and a sixteen foot tall replica of David was erected outside the building it was taking place in.
[11:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This offended conservative Russians, and after several complaints about was held to decide whether the statue should be clothed, and if so with what?
[11:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: There's no word on the outcome, but one woman suggested dressing him in a big old pair of pants, just like in the Simpsons.
[12:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I really wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly what happened.
[12:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Either way, there's no denying it's a super strange coincidence.
[12:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Look, I get it.
[12:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Everybody needs to make cash.
[12:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But I bet you didn't think there was any money to be made from selling Greece, did you?
[12:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, in a nineteen ninety-eight episode of The Sims and Homer did, he and Bart find out there's a lucrative Greece trade and start stealing it in huge amounts to sell on.
[12:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But stealing Greece?
[12:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Ha!
[12:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That never happened in real life, surely?
[12:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Turns out of what?
[12:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Believe it or not, in the years since the episode aired, the Greece business has become a seriously lucrative one.
[12:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Demand for bio diesel has increased massively and guess what can be turned into bio diesel.
[12:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Grease.
[12:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So after restaurants are done with their old vegetable oils, they sell them on to recyclers for hundreds of dollars a barrel.
[12:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The thing is, criminals have caught onto this and now they're posing as grease collection companies stealing the grease and selling it on for profit.
[13:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Bring any bells?
[13:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Jeez, I'm losing track of how many times those yellow fellows have got it right now.
[13:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Too many.
[13:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: For every spot on prediction of cartoon makes there are ten others that are total dots, but folks on the internet are often convinced these fakes are real.
[13:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Never fear my alter ego buzzkill man is here to reign on their parade and separate the truth from the lies.
[13:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Now if you're one of the seven people that haven't seen Game of Thrones, you might want to skip ahead thirty seconds or so because I'm gonna spoil the heck out of it.
[13:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Alright, now that those losers are gone, lots of people are convinced that this scene from the Simpsons' twenty-nineteen episode deserves since predicts the much maligned ending to the HBO epic.
[13:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I admit the two scenes do look very similar, then hold on.
[13:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A dragon destroying a town as a trope as old as the finesse genre itself.
[14:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's been written about and televised a countless number of times.
[14:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Through this, nobody could have predicted the ending of Game of Thrones would suck that much.
[14:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What sucked even more though was toys are rest closing down in twenty eighteen.
[14:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I was blindsided.
[14:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, what else can I go to buy my Barbie dolls for my sister?
[14:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Okay, well, anyway.
[14:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: According to the citizens of the internet, I'd have known it was coming if I'd just listen to the Simpsons.
[14:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A two thousand four episode supposedly shows most shutting down the store, and actuality the Grouchy bartender is just switching the R on the sign to face the correct way around and an attempt to make the town less kid friendly.
[14:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The screenshot was taken out of context and framed as something else by internet liars.
[14:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Over in the world of Futurama, the episode raging Bender is often given credit for predicting interactive film media like Netflix's movie Bander Snatch.
[14:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In raging Bender, fried does go to see a movie where you choose the outcome, much like you can in Bander Snatch.
[15:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Though it predates the black mirror episode by a whopping eighteen years.
[15:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Surely this one's a real prediction then?
[15:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Nope.
[15:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Turns out, Bander Snatch was never in the running for first interactive movie.
[15:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The real first was named Kino Automat and came out all the way back in nineteen sixty seven.
[15:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Back then, people didn't decide what happened to a TV remote, they saw it at the theater.
[15:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That various points throughout the movie the scene was paused, a moderator walked out on stage, and the audience would vote on what happened next.
[15:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's actually pretty cool.
[15:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But it means future Elmo was commenting on the past, not predicting the future.
[15:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Regardless enough of that, let's get back to some real predictions.
[15:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Politicians aren't exactly the most popular people, so it's not uncommon for them to enlist a little star power to win people over.
[15:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A concept, two thousand sevens, the Simpson movie lamb baths.
[16:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In the story, the U.S.
[16:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: government is planning to destroy the town of Springfield and open a new Grand Canyon in the place of its remains.
[16:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Naturally, this isn't expected to prove a popular proposal, so the government enlists Hollywood favorite Tom Hanks.
[16:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's a funny gag that poaps fawn of celebrities propping up politicians, but it would wind up being yet another prophetic vision.
[16:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It teen years later, in twenty-twenty-two, Hanks narrated and appeared in a promotional video designed to highlight the achievements of President Joe Biden's government.
[16:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In a time of immense scrutiny for the Biden administration, the video was intended to turn things around and give the government some much-needed credibility, by borrowing some of Tom's.
[16:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The real government bit didn't visually match up quite as much with the Simpsons as some people would have you believe, but the undeniably uncanny similarities led to an explosion of social media posts.
[17:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Even other politicians and political commentators pointed them out.
[17:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's got to have been embarrassing.
[17:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: If I say cartoon, you probably immediately think of an animated TV show, but cartoons can also mean physical comic strips and they've existed far longer than television, over a hundred years in fact.
[17:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So it's no surprise that over that time some of them have made some super freaky predictions.
[17:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Back in the second world war cartoons were used by both sides as propaganda tools to push their political agendas.
[17:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: patriotic American hero Uncle Sam featured in the December nineteen forty-one issue of national comics where he defended Pearl Harbor from an attack by a mysterious enemy army.
[17:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Just a few days after the strip was published the Japanese Navy actually attacked Pearl Harbor.
[17:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, that's beyond free G.
[17:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: If you ask me what the most well-known Simpson's prediction is, there isn't much down in my mind.
[18:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Way back in the year two thousand, the show's eleven season featured an episode where an adult Lisa becomes president of the United States.
[18:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: As the newly inaugurated President Simpson discusses the state of affairs with her team, she mentions that they've inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump.
[18:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: As we all know, in twenty sixteen Donald Trump would indeed be elected president, which is pretty darn free-key considering he didn't announce his candidacy until fifteen years after the episode aired.
[18:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In recent years though, this already impressive prediction has been somewhat overshadowed by other supposedly even more accurate predictions.
[18:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: When Trump announced his candidacy in twenty fifteen, he descended Trump tower on an escalator while people stood waving signs for him.
[18:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: low and behold, the Simpsons had apparently predicted this exact scene years before.
[18:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Only this time they actually had.
[18:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It turns out the scene is only so similar because it's from a twenty fifteen Simpsons YouTube video produced after Trump's campaign had already begun.
[19:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The Simpsons screen shot is from the same twenty fifteen YouTube short.
[19:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Sneaky online trolls that simply claimed it was a prediction for internet cloud.
[19:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Many also say that this clip from the shorts predicts Trump's twenty-twenty-four election run, even Simson's writer Al-Gene posted on Twitter asserting the claim.
[19:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But that's not exactly true, either.
[19:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The visual gag just makes fun of Trump by implying he'll run every four years until he's elected.
[19:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So, twenty-twenty-twenty-four would inevitably be one of those years.
[19:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Come on, Al.
[19:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Stubbed spreading fake news.
[19:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Said.
[19:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Just said.
[19:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Science and sci-fi have a symbiotic relationship, fictional technology, often inspired people to try and create it in the real world.
[19:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Because of this, there are a surprising number of cases where old cartoons appear to directly predict the future.
[19:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: One nineteen ninety-two sempsons episode features a device that could translate baby cries into plain English.
[20:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A fantastical idea at the time, yet very real today.
[20:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: At least that's what companies like Zound Dream claim.
[20:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The start I've got to work on the project in twenty twenty, nearly thirty years after the Simpsons came up with it.
[20:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Then although it won't allow you to actually converse with a baby, it does apparently translate their cries into a few fundamental needs.
[20:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It even looks kind of similar to the animated one.
[20:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But enough of the Simpsons for a second.
[20:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Classic Sixties animated sitcom The Jetsons is set in the future and predicted a whole slew of tech that would later end up the massive part of our day-to-day lives.
[20:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Lat screen TVs, check, smart watches, check, my personal favorite though, this little automatic vacuum.
[20:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's a room, but I wonder if the Jetsons one constantly smacks into things too.
[20:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I know I know.
[21:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You could argue those predictions aren't that impressive as they were all logical extensions of items that already existed.
[21:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But you definitely can't use that argument with this next crazy piece of tech from a
[21:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Nameda's smelloscope, the device in the show, looks like a telescope, but is designed to magnify smells rather than images.
[21:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Twenty-four years later, the real world was grazed with the nasal ranger.
[21:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: How fashionable.
[21:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: While not quite the same as its cartoon counterpart, it's certainly similar.
[21:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It uses a carbon filter to isolate odors from the rest of the air, so when you take a haunt through it, it's easier to determine how strong a scent is.
[21:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Hmm, I can think of a few occasions where this would be a more negative thing than a positive thing to be honest.
[21:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Have you ever been scammed?
[21:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Obviously, I haven't.
[21:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm way too smart.
[21:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But my friend has made some pretty stupid purchases in the past.
[22:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Where was I?
[22:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, right, scamming.
[22:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, in a two-thousand-two episode of The Simpsons, Mobster Fed Tony and his gang are working on the single most impressive scam in history.
[22:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Gluing cotton balls to fear it's to pass them off as toy bootles.
[22:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Okay, so maybe it's not that impressive?
[22:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Nobody would try that in real life, right?
[22:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Best word to Argentine in, twenty-thirteen.
[22:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A retired man thought he'd found the bargain of a lifetime when he managed to buy some toy poodles from a local bizarre for a hundred and fifty dollars each.
[22:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Just one would normally set you back over at thousand dollars so the guy thought he'd snapped up an absolute bargain.
[22:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: As you can probably imagine, he had.
[22:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yep, a criminal gang had been passing fair it's off his poodles.
[22:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Unfortunately, this ain't a joke.
[22:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Unlike the episode of the Samstens, instead of gluing cotton balls to the poor animals, they're real gang at Pumpton full of steroids at birth to beef them up.
[23:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And that's awful.
[23:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: On the plus side, however, as far as I can tell, the duped buyer never lodged any complaints about the fraudulent ferrets.
[23:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So who knows, maybe fell in love with his new mussely mammals despite their lack of bark.
[23:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We can only hope.
[23:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So we covered a few false predictions earlier, but there are so many glaring inaccuracies being shared online that I feel compelled to address more of them.
[23:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's right, it's the triumphant return of both skill man!
[23:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Bork, glumbley standing by a grave of late basketball legend Kobe Bryant.
[23:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Apparently, it's from a sense in the episode that aired some time before the sportsman's tragic helicopter crash in twenty twenty.
[23:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: A lie, the episode the image is from has nothing to do with Bryant.
[23:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The Gravesman photoshopped.
[23:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wow.
[23:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Talk about bad taste.
[23:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: There is a conspiracy doing the rounds that an earlier different episode predicted Bryan's passing, but it's also completely baseless.
[23:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The episode just mentions a helicopter crashing.
[24:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm stumped why people even bother spreading these lines, but it just goes to show you can't believe everything you see online.
[24:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Okay, I think that's all the spooky predictions I can handle for one day.
[24:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Which did you think was the most mind blowing?
