[0:00] Hello and welcome to Outlaw Podcast.
[0:02] I'm Ellen O'Neill, and in today's episode we're in London
[0:06] in 2007, where a 29 year old man wearing nothing but his
[0:10] underwear ran out into the street bleeding and screaming.
[0:15] That morning he had been chained up and held hostage in a nearby
[0:19] apartment, and now that he had very bravely escaped, he could
[0:23] tell everyone exactly who had done this to him.
[0:27] It was one of the most famous celebrity properties in Britain
[0:31] at the time, a 46 year old pop star named Boy George.
[0:41] There's currently a film in the works all about the life of Boy
[0:44] George, who is probably one of the most famous pot boys to ever
[0:48] come out of Britain. Not only did he have a solo
[0:50] career as Boy George, but he was also the lead singer of a band
[0:54] called Culture Club who did Karma Chameleon.
[0:57] I'm not going to sing it for you, but I already know it's
[0:59] going to be stuck in your head after you've watched this
[1:00] episode. Or if you're a reality fan,
[1:03] maybe you saw him on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
[1:05] He's also done other shows like The Voice.
[1:08] He was on I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here a couple of years
[1:11] ago. These are quite recent things in
[1:13] Boy George's career timeline though.
[1:15] He originally rose to fame in the 80s and he was massive in
[1:19] the 80s as part of the New Romantic Wave.
[1:22] He was known for wearing makeup, not conforming to gendered
[1:25] clothing. And it wasn't just in Britain.
[1:28] Here where he was massive, he was Mr. Worldwide.
[1:31] Before there was a Mr. Worldwide in the form of Pitbull.
[1:35] Boy George was selling out tours across continents and at the
[1:39] height of his fame in 1985, 24 year old George Allen O'Dowd,
[1:44] which is his full name, came out as bisexual.
[1:47] Me too. This was a huge deal at the
[1:51] time, especially because it was during the AIDS crisis where
[1:54] homophobia and the demonization of the LGBTQ plus community was
[1:59] at a peak. And then about 10 years after he
[2:02] came out as bisexual, he was then around 34 years old.
[2:05] He came out as completely gay, and I believe he still labels
[2:09] himself as such to this day. Over the years, though, behind
[2:13] this immense fame, George's personal life had taken a really
[2:18] dark spiral, and in 2007, he was found guilty of doing something
[2:23] horrific. And I have to tell you this
[2:26] story before it's too late because Boy George, like I said
[2:29] in the beginning, is actually producing his own biopic.
[2:33] Biopic movie about himself as we speak and people are wondering
[2:37] if he is going to try and rewrite history and depict this
[2:41] event that we're going to talk about today in a much more
[2:44] favorable light. So today we're telling this
[2:47] story for his victim, Alden Carlson.
[2:50] Before we get any further, I want to warn you that we're
[2:52] going to be covering a lot of sensitive subjects today,
[2:55] including violence, drug abuse and torture.
[2:58] So as always, viewer discretion is advised.
[3:01] I guess we should start from the very beginning.
[3:03] George Allen O'Dowd, AKA Boy George was born on the 14th of
[3:07] June 1961 in Kent, England. He was raised in southeast
[3:11] London in a huge Irish family. He was one of six kids.
[3:16] But his home environment was very turbulent and honestly just
[3:20] plain sad. His father had a violent temper
[3:23] that would often be taken out on his wife, on George's mother,
[3:26] and all of the kids would lay witness to the abuse of their
[3:29] mum. To distance himself from this, I
[3:32] guess. George, aged around 11, would
[3:35] take himself out for long walks just to get out of the house.
[3:39] He managed to find out actually where David Bowie's house was
[3:43] and he would go and walk back by it and look at it often because
[3:47] he was so inspired by Bowie. He would just like gaze up at
[3:50] the house in awe of potentially being in the presence of such a
[3:54] musical inspiration. As the O'Dowd siblings all
[3:58] reached their teenage years, George really stood out,
[4:01] especially among his brothers. They were all into cars and
[4:04] football and girls, whereas George loved jewelry and
[4:08] dressing up and David Bowie. George was so inspired by Bowie,
[4:12] in fact, that he was desperate to give music a go himself.
[4:16] And so in 1981, at the age of 20, George formed his Super for
[4:20] successful band Culture Club, and my God did they hit the
[4:24] ground running. The very next year they had a
[4:26] huge hit with their song Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?
[4:29] Still one of their most famous songs to this day and this smash
[4:33] hit propelled them into the charts, gave them international
[4:37] fame. Of course, this is a time of 0
[4:40] social media as well, so to be reaching audiences all the way
[4:43] over in Asia and Africa just tells you how huge they were.
[4:47] Their music was catchy and their lead singer Boy George was an
[4:51] intriguing character. He had a very androgynous look,
[4:54] he would wear makeup, he'd wear skirts paired with top hats and
[4:58] and more recently a full on beard.
[5:00] So he was mixing all these different elements of of
[5:03] clothing and expression that people had never really seen
[5:06] before. In the early 1980s, Boy George
[5:08] was one of the first globally famous non binary looking people
[5:13] out there. Audiences were taken aback by
[5:15] such a unique expression of gender.
[5:18] It was the 80s and homophobia was rampant, so you can imagine
[5:22] that some people were very hateful, but not everyone.
[5:25] Boy George simply existing in this way opened the minds of so
[5:30] many people that hadn't come across anyone like him before,
[5:34] and a lot of people loved it. He became an icon for youngsters
[5:38] that were questioning their own gender identity and
[5:41] experimenting with expression or their sexuality.
[5:44] Having a famous openly and unapologetically queer
[5:48] representative was massive for the LGBTQ plus community in the
[5:52] 80s Boy George was very brave and the gays loved him for it.
[5:57] As we mentioned briefly earlier, this was a time when the
[6:00] community needed this positivity and bravery more than ever.
[6:04] During the AIDS epidemic, not only was so many members of the
[6:07] community literally falling sick and dying, but surviving members
[6:12] were being hate crimed and socially ostracized to
[6:15] terrifying extents. Since AIDS was very
[6:18] misunderstood, it was thought to be a gay man's disease and it
[6:22] took so long for this belief to be dismantled.
[6:26] Despite the fact that babies were being born with AIDS and
[6:30] other groups were also being disproportionately affected, it
[6:34] was still being scapegoated as a gay disease.
[6:37] So what was the UK government's response to the epidemic here?
[6:40] Well, they created a law making it illegal for authorities to
[6:45] support anything that promoted being gay.
[6:47] But if anyone was going to be an ally and a change maker, leave
[6:51] it to the People's Princess, I would die.
[6:53] In April 1987, famously, Princess Diana of Wales opened
[6:57] the 1st hospital ward in Britain dedicated to people with AIDS
[7:01] and HIV in front of the press. Yes, she held the hand of a man
[7:05] who had HIV, and this was huge. Another misunderstanding when it
[7:10] came to AIDS in the 80s was that you could catch it from simply
[7:14] touching someone, shaking hands with someone who was affected.
[7:17] People were too scared to go near AIDS patients until
[7:22] Princess Diana publicly proved that that wasn't the case.
[7:26] For years after this, Diana made it her mission to take away the
[7:29] homophobic, fear mongering stigma that had been wrongly put
[7:33] onto people with AIDS, as well as fighting for a cure.
[7:37] And finally, though far too late, by the end of the 1980's,
[7:41] the world started reacting. After the gay community and
[7:44] allies fought so incredibly hard while watching their friends
[7:47] suffer and die, medical intervention, research and
[7:51] proper treatment finally started to happen.
[7:53] Obviously, I can't cover the entire aid epidemic in this
[7:56] video, so I do really recommend going away and doing your own
[7:59] research. This is just a brief rundown
[8:02] just to give you the context that's required to set the scene
[8:05] of this horrific crime that we're discussing today.
[8:08] Speaking of back to Boy George, a figurehead of the LGBTQ plus
[8:13] community at this point in time, but as beloved as he was, his
[8:17] reputation would soon be thrown into question.
[8:20] Over the years he had battled a serious heroin addiction and I
[8:23] believe some other drugs as well.
[8:26] He did get sober, but then in the early 2000s he relapsed
[8:29] again. Which is what leads us to the
[8:32] events of today's true Crime Story.
[8:34] When George, aged 46, got in contact with a 29 year old
[8:38] Norwegian male model named Alden Carlson.
[8:41] One day in January 2007, George was scrolling on Gaydar, which
[8:45] is like mostly a dating slash hookup app, but people we do
[8:50] just go there to make friends and connections too.
[8:53] George came across a rather handsome looking young man on
[8:55] Gaydar named Alden Carlson. He was 29 years old and George
[9:00] made the first move. He messaged Alden asking if he
[9:03] would be interested in doing some nude modeling and Boy
[9:07] George himself would be the photographer.
[9:09] Alden was interested and the men chatted away until they came to
[9:13] an agreement. Alden would do this nude
[9:15] modeling job for £400. It was a deal.
[9:18] George possibly sounds a little bit sleazy right now, but this
[9:21] wasn't entirely random from him. I've only really told you about
[9:25] his pop star endeavors so far, but he was a man of many
[9:28] talents, of many creative outlets.
[9:30] He tried his hand at fashion design, DJ ING, he's quite well
[9:33] known for his DJ ING, and now he was dabbling in photography, so
[9:37] it makes sense for him to be seeking out a model.
[9:40] But doing it through Gaydar is a bit wild.
[9:43] Like, where's the professionalism?
[9:44] Where's the HR team? And the photo shoot would take
[9:47] place at George's own house at his flat in Shoreditch, which,
[9:52] again, red flag, right? A1 on one nude photo shoot at
[9:56] the photographer's private home without anyone else there.
[10:00] But when Alden turned up at George's flat a few weeks later
[10:03] for the job, it seemed totally fine, actually.
[10:06] He took off his clothes, nothing weird.
[10:08] He paused, George took pictures, but then things took a turn.
[10:13] Alden claims that George just starts railing, lines of cocaine
[10:18] getting off his face, but the photo shoot continues anyway.
[10:22] Later, Alden said that he was sat naked in a chair being
[10:26] photographed when George dropped the camera, approached him and
[10:30] started to perform oral sex on him.
[10:33] This lasted only around 5 seconds before Alden rejected
[10:37] him and said no, that's not what I'm here for.
[10:40] Alden was being paid to do a nude photo shoot.
[10:43] This wasn't an escort job. This wasn't a hookup.
[10:46] He wasn't even sexually attracted to George.
[10:48] That's something he said himself and he insists that he made that
[10:52] clear. Alden was in professional mode
[10:54] that day. This was a job to him.
[10:56] But I guess for George, this was some sort of like fantasy porn
[11:01] scenario that it was like written between the lines that
[11:04] photoshoot actually meant like a hookup as well.
[11:08] But that's not what Alden wanted.
[11:10] And so after being rejected, Alden said that George seemed a
[11:14] bit upset, but like, he acted like it was no big deal.
[11:17] They carried on the shoot just fine.
[11:19] And it was afterwards that George started getting all weird
[11:22] again. He was like tense and paranoid.
[11:25] And as Alden was getting ready to leave, George began accusing
[11:30] him of hacking into his laptop while George wasn't in the room.
[11:34] And he was saying that Alden had stolen the naked photos that had
[11:38] just been taken as well as like some other shit like personal
[11:41] details, personal pictures. And boy, George was so serious
[11:45] about this. And Alden denied all these
[11:47] accusations. He was very confused where this
[11:49] had come from, but he was trying his best to defuse the
[11:52] situation. And it worked for the most part.
[11:55] But George then refused to pay Alden the full fee of £400 that
[12:01] was prior agreed. Alden didn't want to provoke
[12:03] George at this point in time. After all he was very cooked up,
[12:07] he was very paranoid, he was very aggressive.
[12:11] And so Alden settled for less money, 300 lbs and he left
[12:15] without issue. George was appeased.
[12:18] Alden gets to go home away from this erratic man.
[12:21] But over the coming weeks, Boy George was bombarding Alden with
[12:26] threatening emails still accusing him of hacking into the
[12:30] computer during the session. But it's like George couldn't
[12:33] decide whether he wanted to fight Alden or flirt with him.
[12:37] He would suddenly apologize and then lay on thick saying that he
[12:40] wanted to spank Alden, saying that he had a gem of an ass.
[12:45] What a way with words you have by George.
[12:47] He eventually asked if Alden would be interested in doing
[12:50] another paid photo shoot, and he said yes.
[12:54] So a second meet up was booked in.
[12:57] Now I know what people are going to be like.
[12:59] Well, why on earth did Alden go back?
[13:01] And the short answer is, I don't know.
[13:04] Maybe he needed the money. Maybe he wanted to connect and
[13:08] repair the relationship with Boy George, who was one of the most
[13:12] powerful figures in music and in the gay scene.
[13:15] Maybe Alden felt confident that he would be able to navigate any
[13:17] situations that arise like the last one.
[13:20] Just stay well away from the guy's laptop and everything
[13:23] should be be fine, right? But no, Alden would come to
[13:26] deeply regret giving Boy George another chance.
[13:30] Three months after that first meet up.
[13:32] It was April 28th, 2007. Alden returned to George's flat
[13:36] confident that things were smoothed over.
[13:39] Little did he know, George had been festering over this
[13:43] incident the whole entire time. In fact, George had an ulterior
[13:48] motive for booking in this second photo shoot.
[13:50] He still believed that Alden had into the laptop and he wanted
[13:55] him to admit it. So the photo shoot starts off
[13:59] the same as last time. It was quite professional until
[14:02] once again, George starts racking up lines of coke.
[14:05] I'm unsure if Alden joined in, but we know for sure that George
[14:09] was off his face. And then mid shoot, George told
[14:13] Alden that he needed to pop to the shops to get some milk.
[14:16] Interesting time for a grocery restock, but hey ho.
[14:20] George left the room, and then Alden overheard him talking to
[14:24] someone in the hallway. He thought it must have been a
[14:27] neighbor, because as far as Alden was aware, they were the
[14:29] only two in the apartment. But but it wasn't.
[14:32] George had actually asked a friend to come round that day as
[14:36] backup for when he ultimately confronted Alden.
[14:40] The plan was to take control of Alden's phone and his laptop and
[14:44] check them for the potentially stolen images from last time.
[14:48] But I guess George felt as though we needed some some
[14:51] muscle to make sure that Alden didn't try and stop him or fight
[14:54] back. So this choice to bring in
[14:57] physical backup, some muscle, is proof that George anticipated
[15:01] stated that the confrontation with Alden would get physical.
[15:04] There would be a tussle at the very least.
[15:06] But what actually ensued was much worse.
[15:10] George LED this friend to the bedroom and told him to wait
[15:13] there, and then he called Alden in.
[15:15] Of course, when Alden walks in, he wasn't expecting to see
[15:18] another man in there. He was naked as hell.
[15:20] He was shocked, but he barely had any time to react because as
[15:24] soon as he was through the door, George and his new sidekick
[15:28] jumped him. They tackled him, they dragged
[15:31] him to the bed, and the whole time George was allegedly
[15:34] hitting and kicking him, yelling fucking whore.
[15:37] The friendly facade was gone and the anger that had been burning
[15:40] inside him for months was unleashed.
[15:43] The next thing Alda knew, he was being held down on the bed while
[15:47] George whipped out some handcuffs.
[15:50] He grabbed Alden's wrist and chained him to a wall fixture
[15:54] above the bed. I mean, I can't even imagine how
[15:57] terrified Alden would have felt in that moment.
[16:00] Not only is he being attacked, but the guy doing this to him is
[16:04] Rich, Famous, powerful, and clearly totally off his fucking
[16:08] rocker. He is high as hell, He's been on
[16:11] so many drugs, and he is convinced of Alden's guilt and
[16:15] there was no persuading him otherwise.
[16:17] And how can Alden protect himself now that he's been
[16:20] shackled up by this madman? He had no idea of what George's
[16:24] plan was, or what George was even capable of.
[16:27] The first thing that George did now that he had Alden trapped
[16:31] was leave the room. Yeah, he just left Alden locked
[16:34] up, terrified. George's muscle sidekick friend
[16:38] also left the apartment completely at this point.
[16:41] I guess his job was done now that Alden was secured.
[16:44] And then when George re enters the room, well, different
[16:47] reports actually say different things about this.
[16:49] Some say that he was frantically flitting in and out of the room
[16:52] the whole time. Others say that he only left
[16:55] once and then came back. I'd assume that the truth
[16:57] probably lies somewhere in the middle of that.
[16:59] But one thing that we do know for Shaw is that George took
[17:02] Alden's phone and his laptop with him when he left the room.
[17:06] He was was going to search his property to make sure that Alden
[17:09] hadn't stolen any photographs or information.
[17:12] As far as we can tell, George didn't actually find anything on
[17:15] Alden's electricals. No stolen materials, nothing.
[17:18] Alden was innocent. But despite this discovery,
[17:22] George still wasn't happy. When he rushed back into the
[17:25] bedroom. He yelled to his chained up
[17:27] victim. Now you're going to get what you
[17:29] deserve. And he began physically
[17:32] attacking him. And this time, George allegedly
[17:35] had weapons. He'd brought a box of leather
[17:38] straps, some chains, some sex toys, and he was using all of it
[17:42] to hit Alden. But just to make it clear, no
[17:45] sexual assault actually took place.
[17:48] This whole ordeal lasted around 30 minutes until Alden managed
[17:52] to break free from the fixture that he had been cuffed to.
[17:55] He'd been yanking on it the whole time, trying to get free,
[17:58] and eventually, I think it just flew off the whole entire wall.
[18:01] We read a report that said he'd managed to unscrew it, but I
[18:05] actually think that seems unlikely.
[18:06] I think it's more just the brute force of, like, yanking at it.
[18:10] And with this handcuff still attached, Alden fled the bedroom
[18:14] and ran to the front door. George was chasing after him.
[18:17] Beat hitting him with a chain this whole time as Auden's like
[18:21] struggling to get the front door unlocked and open.
[18:24] George wasn't even really trying to restrain him or keep him in
[18:27] the apartment. Really, it seems that he was
[18:30] just trying to get in a few more whacks with the chain before his
[18:33] victim escaped. Eventually, Auden got the door
[18:37] open and fled out into the street, wearing only his
[18:39] underwear and his trainers. He was bleeding from his various
[18:44] injuries and George didn't chase him outside.
[18:46] He just stayed in his apartment and let Alden run away.
[18:50] Luckily, the injuries that Alden had sustained were only like
[18:54] skin deep cuts and scrapes and Marks and bruises.
[18:57] He wouldn't need hospital treatment.
[18:59] But still, he was a mostly naked man, running through the streets
[19:02] with blood on him, on his arms and on his head.
[19:04] It would have been a shock for any passerby to witness.
[19:08] A man working in a nearby shop came to help and rang the
[19:11] police. I believe he also took Auden
[19:13] into his shop for safety in case George did change his mind and
[19:17] came back looking for him. Police took Auden back to the
[19:20] station so that he could tell them about his whole ordeal.
[19:23] And remember, he still had the handcuffed attached to one wrist
[19:26] and they were really struggling to get it off him.
[19:28] Well, back at the police station, they actually had to
[19:31] saw it, saw it off his arm. I struggled to say the word saw
[19:36] in my accent. It sounds like a saw, but saw.
[19:40] So Auden tells the police everything from the very
[19:43] beginning that he met his attacker on Gaydar.
[19:46] Chances are he was already familiar with Boy George since
[19:49] he was a celebrity, especially in the gay scene.
[19:51] Something important to know actually going forward is that
[19:55] Auden is HIV positive and he said that he had told George
[19:59] this beforehand, but when George was arrested and questioned by
[20:02] the police, he would use Auden's HIV against him.
[20:07] Of course, Alden had told the police that George performed
[20:10] oral sex on him that first time that they met.
[20:13] But George denied that detail, telling the police I'd never
[20:16] have slept with someone who is HIV positive.
[20:19] So by George denying that one detail happening, he's trying to
[20:23] paint a picture of Alden as a complete liar who has fabricated
[20:27] this whole story to the police. Not just the sex, but the attack
[20:31] too. It's absolutely devastating for
[20:34] Boy George, A gay man, a gay celebrity, A figurehead of the
[20:38] LGBTQ plus community who rose to fame during the AIDS crisis to
[20:43] use someone's status as HIV positive against them.
[20:47] So I do actually just want to pause here and quickly talk
[20:50] about today's charity. Keeping in the theme of gay pop
[20:53] stars from the 80s, I actually want to talk about Elton John's
[20:56] AIDS Foundation. Now.
[20:58] I know it's already a very well known charity, but that's for
[21:01] good reason because the work that they do is so important.
[21:04] The Elton John AIDS Foundation is an AIDS and HIV charity that
[21:08] supports people worldwide to get access to treatment and
[21:12] resources while also funding critical research into AIDS and
[21:16] HIV. And right now, this charity is
[21:18] more important than ever because recently I, I don't know if it's
[21:22] going to change today, like while I'm filming this, but the
[21:25] US government has cut critical funding and grants for HIV and
[21:29] AIDS. And it's not only Americans who
[21:31] are going to be suffering from these cuts.
[21:33] Other countries, many of them in Africa like Nigeria and Kenya,
[21:37] could soon run out of HIV drugs following America's decision to
[21:41] stop funding the United Nations program for HIV and AIDS.
[21:45] Which is why the Elton John AIDS Foundation in particular is so
[21:48] crucial because they're desperately trying to pick up
[21:51] the slack and and help prevent the devastation that this has
[21:54] and will cause not only in America but globally.
[21:58] Of course, the link to the foundation will be down in the
[22:00] description of this episode. Please do consider donating this
[22:04] pride month. The LGBTQ plus community is
[22:07] disproportionately affected by HIV and AIDS.
[22:10] It's a fact that gay men are 35 times more likely to get HIV
[22:15] while trans women are 14 times more likely.
[22:18] Those statistics need to drop, because if those odds were
[22:22] stacked against heterosexuals, I'm sure the governments would
[22:25] have worked much harder to lower those numbers a hell of a lot
[22:28] more by now. So anyway, back to Boy George,
[22:31] who was pretty much immediately arrested and brought into
[22:33] custody. He denied a lot of what Alden
[22:37] was alleging against him. He insisted that he'd never had
[22:40] sex with him. He insisted that he never be in
[22:42] with chains. He essentially denied all of the
[22:44] violent stuff. The only thing that he admitted
[22:47] to was that he had restrained Alden because he wanted to
[22:50] search his devices to see if he had in fact hacked into his
[22:54] laptop the last time that they'd seen each other.
[22:56] Also, he definitely couldn't deny the handcuffing because it
[23:00] was still on his fucking wrist when he got to the police
[23:02] station. They had to saw it off them.
[23:03] George told the police he struggled a bit when I was
[23:06] handcuffing him because he realized I wasn't messing
[23:09] around. I didn't tell him the reason I
[23:11] was doing what I was doing. I said I just wanted to check
[23:13] something. He said let me go if I was going
[23:16] to beat him up. I would have got my friend to
[23:18] beat him up with me if I was going to do anything that vile.
[23:21] He said that Auden was so smug and he was lying saying it
[23:25] wasn't me but it wasn't him that stole the photos.
[23:29] The police were not buying it. And so George, George, George
[23:34] was charged with false imprisonment and this case went
[23:37] to court in December 2008 / a year and a half after the
[23:41] incident took place. In court, the jury was shown
[23:44] pictures of the red welts on Auden's head and his arms, the
[23:49] wounds that he said George had inflicted by beating him with
[23:53] chains. I'm sure you can already guess
[23:55] that George denied this, but when he was asked, well what
[23:58] else could have caused these big red welts if not his violence
[24:02] and he actually once again used Audens HIV against him.
[24:07] For context, people with HIV and AIDS can sometimes develop these
[24:11] like rashes and welts like red bumps that can scab over and
[24:15] these usually appear during the very early phases.
[24:18] These marks can also be caused by reactions to medication and
[24:21] complications, which again as far as we know Adam wasn't
[24:25] experiencing that either. I also think it's relatively
[24:28] obvious the difference between the rashy welts that could be
[24:33] caused by HIV that would look like patches of red inflamed
[24:37] skin all over his body. We know what rashes look like,
[24:39] but that's not what the pictures showed.
[24:42] Alden's wounds were clearly welts and cuts and broken skin
[24:46] from being beaten with a weapon with chains.
[24:50] Another one of George's excuses for the wounds was that they
[24:52] could have been sustained from the bondage gear that they'd
[24:55] used during the nude photo shoot.
[24:57] And at this point it's like, well which one is it?
[25:00] Are you blaming the HIV or are you blaming the bondage gear?
[25:02] I'm also thinking if it was the HIV then surely Alden would have
[25:06] already had add the Marks and the welts in the photo shoot
[25:10] pictures so they can just look at that right?
[25:13] Honestly, in my personal opinion, I think Boy George's
[25:15] defense here is a shambles. It's a load of shit.
[25:18] Like pick a side you know what I mean?
[25:20] Pick a pick a theory. Also, I do need to add in a
[25:23] little side note because Boy George went on I'm A Celebrity
[25:26] Get Me Out of here a couple of years ago and he was chatting
[25:29] about this incident literally on national television and he is
[25:32] still to this day making out like out and lied.
[25:37] He publicly said that there weren't any photos of Auden's
[25:40] injuries, which is confusing because jurors literally saw
[25:44] them during the trial. They were used as evidence.
[25:47] So how is Boy George lying on prime time national TV?
[25:52] In my opinion, I don't know if I can get sued for anything in
[25:55] this video. There's going to be a lot of
[25:56] allegedly's, but like the fucking the jury saw them.
[26:01] What do you mean? And you know what?
[26:02] All this kind of stuff is what makes me especially worried
[26:05] about the biopic in the works because it's very clear now that
[26:08] even almost 2 decades later, Boy George is still trying to paint
[26:13] his victim as a liar. He is refusing to give closure
[26:17] to the victim that he had falsely imprisoned and beat up.
[26:20] But back to the trial. When Alden was asked why he
[26:23] thinks that George attacked him, he told them.
[26:26] I think he couldn't handle the refusal of me not having having
[26:29] sex with him. In fact, Alden even said in his
[26:32] trial he's not a person I would find attractive to have sex
[26:35] with. But whether it was down to
[26:36] genuine drug fueled paranoia that Alden had stolen the photos
[26:41] and hacked his computer, or whether it was merely
[26:44] embarrassed rage from being rejected and turned down, one
[26:48] thing was very clear. Boy George was guilty.
[26:51] And the jury thought so too. He was found guilty of false
[26:55] imprisonment and assault, and for that he was sentenced to 15,
[26:58] 18 months in prison, with the judge calling the crime callous
[27:02] and humiliating. George was initially sent to
[27:05] Pentonville Prison in London, which is known to be a tough
[27:09] prison, but it certainly wasn't a good environment for an openly
[27:13] gay man to exist in. I will say that George claimed
[27:16] that he had become a target for other inmates and he was beaten
[27:20] up in a homophobic attack. We haven't actually been able to
[27:23] verify that this happened, but I'm not going to sit here and
[27:25] say that it's not true. I just find it interesting
[27:28] actually because in recent years he has said in interviews and on
[27:32] TV and stuff that he actually had a great time in prison and
[27:35] all the other prisoners loved him.
[27:37] So I'm not entirely sure. Maybe he is referring to the
[27:41] second prison that he got transferred to because obviously
[27:44] they realized that the first one wasn't a good fit for him, so he
[27:47] was transferred to Suffolk. And that does seem like a much
[27:51] nicer experience. In fact, I would call it like
[27:54] the prison pro experience, like it's a much smaller environment
[27:59] with a lot less inmates. It's out in the countryside in
[28:02] Rural England. Like, it's so not the same.
[28:05] It's like the premium prison experience.
[28:07] It's kind of bougie. A lot of rich people get sent to
[28:11] this prison in Suffolk. It's there's a lot more space.
[28:13] It's a lot more chill. It's a much more pleasant
[28:15] experience. And George would only have to
[28:18] spend four months there before he was released for good
[28:21] behavior. He was allowed to leave on the
[28:23] condition that he wore an ankle monitor and abided by a strict
[28:27] curfew. And this is fair fairly common
[28:29] in the Uka lot of prisoners with short sentences can be released
[28:32] after only serving like 40 to 50% of their time.
[28:36] So that was it for George. He was out and back to being a
[28:39] pop star DJ extraordinaire. Over the years, George has been
[28:43] asked in TV appearances and interviews about this incident
[28:47] and you can imagine how it goes every time.
[28:49] He never talks about it for very long, He always continues the
[28:52] conversation and like redirects. But every single time he denies
[28:56] the violent side of the crime despite the guilty verdict
[28:59] though is what gets me. Like you have literally been
[29:02] found guilty in a court of law. George has however apologized to
[29:06] Auden for what went on that day. He blames the paranoia and the
[29:10] aggression on his drug addiction at the time, saying that it was
[29:13] basically a psychotic drug fueled rampage.
[29:16] Since being released, we also couldn't find anything of George
[29:19] publicly addressing the way that he spoke about Audens HIV
[29:24] either. I would have hoped for an
[29:25] apology on that too, really, given that he is supposed to be
[29:28] a figurehead of the LGBTQ plus community, but whatever.
[29:32] Gordon says that even still to this day, this incident has
[29:36] completely ruined his life. He has been left with constant
[29:40] back issues from the attack, and he's too traumatized to trust
[29:44] people in intimate relationships now.
[29:47] Not to mention the psychological hurt that he has enjoyed seeing
[29:50] his attacker on TV, appearing in reality shows like I'm A
[29:54] Celebrity and The Voice denying the violent reality of the
[29:58] situation that Adam was subjected to.
[30:01] George's career Carrie gone practically unchanged while
[30:05] Auden still suffers physically and mentally every single day.
[30:10] Boy George was asked about how the crime would be portrayed in
[30:14] his upcoming movie, to which he said I'm no longer going to say
[30:17] I did something that I didn't do.
[30:19] I want my truth in the movie. The only thing I care about
[30:22] right now in terms of this movie is how they portray that.
[30:27] I am honestly worried about Auden's mental health when that
[30:30] movie comes out. It's frankly devastating that a
[30:33] crime that traumatized him and left him with lasting pain will
[30:37] be rewritten by the perpetrator himself for the big screen.
[30:41] Hundreds of thousands of people will likely see and believe the
[30:45] narrative told in the biopic without seeking out any further
[30:49] details. And that's another reason I
[30:51] wanted this episode out there. For when people get home from
[30:54] the movie theater and they Google it.
[30:56] I want Alden Carlton's side of the story to be loud and clear.
[31:00] I'm not sure if we'll reach as many people as the movie with
[31:03] just this episode of Outlaw Podcast, but now that you guys
[31:06] have heard the victim side of the story, we can keep spreading
[31:08] that together and supporting him through the aftermath of such an
[31:12] awful case. But that is all we have for
[31:16] today. Thank you so, so much for tuning
