[0:03] Speaker 1: In the vibrant city of Elizabeth, New Jersey. A devoted
[0:06] Speaker 1: mother beams with bride as she nurtures her four children.
[0:10] Speaker 1: Life is beautifully unfolding, filled with love and cherished moments
[0:15] Speaker 1: when everything changes in the blink of an eye. A
[0:18] Speaker 1: night out for fun spirals into mystery as she suddenly vanishes.
[0:24] Speaker 1: What happened that evening and what happens when love becomes fatal.
[0:31] Speaker 1: This is a Fatal Attraction podcast with Chasing Justice.
[0:42] Speaker 2: March twenty seventh, twenty sixteen. It's Easter Sunday in Elizabeth,
[0:47] Speaker 2: New Jersey, a gritty industrial city tucked between Newark and
[0:52] Speaker 2: Staten Island.
[0:53] Speaker 3: Elizabeth is a very diverse community, with a lot of
[0:57] Speaker 3: Afro Americans, Italian Americans, and Hispanic Americans.
[1:03] Speaker 4: We're populated at around one hundred and forty thousand, which
[1:06] Speaker 4: means that we have all the problems of any major
[1:09] Speaker 4: urban city.
[1:11] Speaker 5: You don't know what's gonna happen anytime day or the night.
[1:15] Speaker 5: It's never seen.
[1:17] Speaker 2: Although at first the call that comes in at six
[1:20] Speaker 2: o'clock that evening seems relatively routine.
[1:24] Speaker 5: I'm calling because I'm family has been trying to get
[1:29] Speaker 5: a hold of twenty six year old Trini's Johnson since
[1:32] Speaker 5: the early afternoon. My mom called me. She said, have
[1:37] Speaker 5: you spoke to her sister? I said no. She's like, well,
[1:41] Speaker 5: she normally call us every morning on video chat, and
[1:46] Speaker 5: this morning she didn't call me. So my aunt says,
[1:50] Speaker 5: she yet trying.
[1:50] Speaker 6: To call her.
[1:52] Speaker 4: This is very uncharacteristic of her. She wouldn't just go
[1:56] Speaker 4: off and not respond to the multiple calls.
[1:59] Speaker 5: Open up, I'll call my sister Jaquetta, and the said, Quetta,
[2:03] Speaker 5: come on, we're going to see if we could get
[2:05] Speaker 5: into t t house.
[2:08] Speaker 4: When they were unable to get in, they called nine
[2:10] Speaker 4: one one to put an alert about what's going on.
[2:14] Speaker 7: I'm here at her.
[2:15] Speaker 8: A partner he had seen the.
[2:19] Speaker 7: Her sister was feeling scared, nervous, anxious, and they wanted
[2:25] Speaker 7: the police to do a wellness check the.
[2:27] Speaker 9: Last time everybody that she was home.
[2:30] Speaker 10: Okay, all right, I'll send police officers over.
[2:33] Speaker 4: Okay.
[2:38] Speaker 2: For Trenise Johnson, family was everything.
[2:43] Speaker 5: She loved her family. She always was the one that
[2:46] Speaker 5: kept our family together.
[2:49] Speaker 4: She comes from a family of ten siblings and they
[2:53] Speaker 4: were all very close.
[2:55] Speaker 5: She the one that would throw the events for all
[2:58] Speaker 5: of us, you know, to have a good That's who
[3:01] Speaker 5: she was.
[3:02] Speaker 2: Though she grew up in a tough neighborhood, Tranise always
[3:06] Speaker 2: kept a good head on her shoulders.
[3:09] Speaker 5: Trenise liked it, already had fun, but she always was
[3:12] Speaker 5: a hard working woman, very smart, very intelligent.
[3:17] Speaker 2: But what made Trani's happiest were her children.
[3:22] Speaker 5: She had three boys. She was a great mom. She
[3:25] Speaker 5: took care of her kids very well. They always did
[3:29] Speaker 5: fun activities.
[3:32] Speaker 2: Being a single mom wasn't always easy, but there wasn't
[3:36] Speaker 2: anything Trenise wouldn't do for her children.
[3:39] Speaker 4: The financial strains of raising three children as a single
[3:44] Speaker 4: mom is tough, but she was working at a grocery store.
[3:47] Speaker 4: She had been there for six years.
[3:49] Speaker 11: She was definitely dedicated to ensuring that her children were
[3:53] Speaker 11: taken care of.
[3:55] Speaker 2: And she had a little help raising the boys.
[3:58] Speaker 7: Oh and don't forget take the bust to your dad's house,
[4:01] Speaker 7: Okay after school?
[4:02] Speaker 5: I really I love you.
[4:04] Speaker 8: Though she had separated from the two fathers of her
[4:07] Speaker 8: three children, the men were still in their lives.
[4:10] Speaker 4: They did stay very close and you can tell that
[4:13] Speaker 4: they were in a mature co parenting relationship.
[4:18] Speaker 2: But in twenty fifteen, Trenise had a new man in
[4:21] Speaker 2: her life Arturo Alonas.
[4:24] Speaker 7: Trenise met Arturo through a mutual friend.
[4:28] Speaker 4: They clicked pretty instantly.
[4:31] Speaker 7: It's fun, it's light, it's super loving.
[4:34] Speaker 4: When you're meeting someone new. We have the butterflies, the
[4:39] Speaker 4: mild anxiety that comes from, oh my god, do they
[4:41] Speaker 4: feel the same way as me? And that's really the
[4:44] Speaker 4: best part, right the falling in love.
[4:47] Speaker 2: But Trenise had a feeling that her relationship with Arturo
[4:50] Speaker 2: was more than just a passing flame.
[4:53] Speaker 11: He's open and accepting for her and her children.
[4:58] Speaker 7: Archiau seemed to be some that she could raise a
[5:01] Speaker 7: family with.
[5:02] Speaker 4: I have something I gotta tell you.
[5:04] Speaker 2: It turned out she'd soon have the chance to do
[5:07] Speaker 2: just that.
[5:08] Speaker 7: Trnise and Arturo they got pregnant.
[5:12] Speaker 4: What despite the strains that it poses on a new relationship,
[5:17] Speaker 4: Arturo still stepped up.
[5:19] Speaker 1: Listen, We're gonna make this work, okay, and I love
[5:22] Speaker 1: you so much.
[5:23] Speaker 12: I love you too.
[5:26] Speaker 2: And in January of twenty sixteen, Tritanise and Arturo welcome
[5:31] Speaker 2: the baby girl.
[5:33] Speaker 5: We was tappy for her because she was having her
[5:35] Speaker 5: first daughter.
[5:37] Speaker 4: You can imagine the excitement she felt. There's something special
[5:41] Speaker 4: as a mom to have a daughter She's gonna be
[5:44] Speaker 4: your little best friend.
[5:46] Speaker 11: They were enjoying their new bundle of joy.
[5:49] Speaker 12: They had also started talking about moving in together.
[5:52] Speaker 7: It seemed like it was going to be an amazing
[5:54] Speaker 7: future between the two.
[5:57] Speaker 2: Only now Trunissa has gone missing and her family has
[6:01] Speaker 2: called nine to one one and requested a welfare check.
[6:05] Speaker 3: The last time seen that she was home.
[6:09] Speaker 8: Her apartment was the last place she was known to be,
[6:11] Speaker 8: and she wasn't answering the phone or her door.
[6:15] Speaker 9: More family was being notified and they were all showing
[6:18] Speaker 9: up at the location.
[6:20] Speaker 10: I'll send police officers over and they'll see if they
[6:22] Speaker 10: can help you. Fee us out. Okay, okay.
[6:26] Speaker 2: But while the family waits for the officers to arrive,
[6:30] Speaker 2: Trenisa's father remembers that he has a key to her apartment.
[6:34] Speaker 7: Trenisa's family was actually able to get into the apartment.
[6:39] Speaker 5: We didn't know what was inside, but I can't feel
[6:43] Speaker 5: things before it happened, and I knew it wasn't nothing good.
[6:47] Speaker 2: The premonition proves correct for Nate.
[6:53] Speaker 5: Jacquetta was the first one to see her laying on
[6:56] Speaker 5: the floor.
[6:58] Speaker 7: Her hands and feet were bound together.
[7:00] Speaker 4: There there's a plastic bag over her head.
[7:04] Speaker 5: Did you quite have ripped the bag off of her head?
[7:07] Speaker 5: Try to give her CPR.
[7:10] Speaker 2: But it was too little, too late.
[7:16] Speaker 5: She was already cold, she was already deceased.
[7:24] Speaker 1: Detectives are on the hunt to find out what happened
[7:27] Speaker 1: to Trenise Johnson. Then stay with us as we unlock
[7:31] Speaker 1: the mysteries that lie ahead. This is a Fatal Attraction podcast.
[7:42] Speaker 2: Already raising three boys, Trinice Johnson had just welcomed a
[7:46] Speaker 2: little girl into the family with her new boyfriend, Arturo
[7:50] Speaker 2: Alonas it.
[7:51] Speaker 5: Was her first.
[7:52] Speaker 4: Daughter, you can imagine the excitement she felt.
[7:57] Speaker 2: But now, just two months after the baby's birth, Journey's
[8:02] Speaker 2: family has made a devastating discovery.
[8:08] Speaker 5: We immediately called the cops and we told them that
[8:11] Speaker 5: my sister was here on the fluid.
[8:13] Speaker 4: She was bound by the hands and by the legs,
[8:18] Speaker 4: with a plastic bag over her head, s doc taped
[8:21] Speaker 4: with a cord of some sort we've been looking for.
[8:28] Speaker 4: There was nothing that could have prepared them for what
[8:30] Speaker 4: they would find in there.
[8:34] Speaker 11: To walk in and to see someone that was full
[8:36] Speaker 11: of life like Trini, someone who loved her family and
[8:39] Speaker 11: was the glue for her family. To see that person
[8:43] Speaker 11: that way is such a shock. It is something that
[8:48] Speaker 11: you can never prepare for.
[8:50] Speaker 4: There was screaming, There was crying, at least one person
[8:55] Speaker 4: who threw themselves on the floor, unable to stand the
[8:59] Speaker 4: gravity of what they were taking in.
[9:03] Speaker 2: The family is still in shock when police arrived at
[9:06] Speaker 2: the scene minutes.
[9:07] Speaker 4: Later, Hernisa's family were taken out so that they can
[9:11] Speaker 4: secure the crime scene.
[9:14] Speaker 5: The crime scene detectives everybody was there throughing the investigation.
[9:21] Speaker 2: But there is nothing they can do for Trenise. She
[9:24] Speaker 2: was pronounced dead, but why was she killed?
[9:30] Speaker 12: Where she lived was one of the biggest public housing
[9:33] Speaker 12: projects in the city.
[9:35] Speaker 5: It was a lot of crimes, a lot of drug dealing.
[9:39] Speaker 8: Detectives had to consider the possibility that this was a
[9:42] Speaker 8: random crime.
[9:44] Speaker 2: But after looking around the apartment, that appears unlikely.
[9:49] Speaker 10: There was no signs of breaking.
[9:52] Speaker 9: Ternes's cell phone and wallet were missing, but other valuables remained.
[9:57] Speaker 4: Other than a body on there was just nothing that
[10:01] Speaker 4: was remarkable about the crime scene.
[10:06] Speaker 2: However, the state of Trannis's body does tell detectives something
[10:10] Speaker 2: about the crime.
[10:12] Speaker 10: Policing.
[10:12] Speaker 3: The bag of her head that was a deliberate so
[10:15] Speaker 3: she couldn't breathe. She couldn't scream, her hands, her feet
[10:19] Speaker 3: were bound, so she couldn't run, She couldn't get away.
[10:23] Speaker 12: This wasn't a smash and grab robbery gone wrong. Whoever
[10:27] Speaker 12: killed Chinese had essentially tortured her.
[10:30] Speaker 10: It was personal. It was someone that she knew.
[10:34] Speaker 2: Detectives hope the family can eventually shed some light on
[10:38] Speaker 2: who might do such a thing to Trinise, but they're
[10:41] Speaker 2: currently too distraught to talk.
[10:44] Speaker 4: Imagine as a father walking into your daughter's apartment and
[10:50] Speaker 4: finding her dad, you are not going to be in
[10:52] Speaker 4: any condition to be able to answer questions. It would
[10:55] Speaker 4: take an extreme amount of resilience to be able to
[11:00] Speaker 4: do that.
[11:01] Speaker 2: The only person able to speak with detectives is Trenisa's cousin, Jason.
[11:06] Speaker 8: We're real sorry, folks, I believe she goes Who's this?
[11:10] Speaker 7: At the club last night?
[11:13] Speaker 8: Jason had been out with Trenise and her sisters the
[11:15] Speaker 8: night before.
[11:16] Speaker 10: Who's her birthday?
[11:18] Speaker 11: You have a mom of four that wants to celebrate
[11:21] Speaker 11: and have a good time. She had her three boys
[11:23] Speaker 11: and at brand new newborn, and all the stresses of that.
[11:27] Speaker 11: She wanted to go let her hair down, enjoy herself.
[11:31] Speaker 7: They were having a grand time. Going out celebrating her, celebrating.
[11:34] Speaker 4: Life, and then she caught your somebody's eye.
[11:40] Speaker 11: Trenise was a beautiful girl, right, so she got a
[11:43] Speaker 11: lot of attention.
[11:45] Speaker 2: The man said his name was Demetrius.
[11:48] Speaker 7: Did you get his lost name?
[11:50] Speaker 10: She didn't say.
[11:52] Speaker 7: Demetrius was buying Tenise dreings, giving her a lot of attention,
[11:57] Speaker 7: typical behavior that you see from a man who's interested
[11:59] Speaker 7: in a woman.
[12:00] Speaker 2: The club, your niece had been flattered.
[12:04] Speaker 11: Tenise was just a few months postpartum, right, and so
[12:08] Speaker 11: oftentimes women are not feeling like themselves, so to be
[12:12] Speaker 11: in a space where they're getting attention makes them feel like, hey,
[12:15] Speaker 11: I still got it.
[12:17] Speaker 2: But according to her cousin, that was as far as
[12:20] Speaker 2: it went.
[12:21] Speaker 6: So what do you say?
[12:22] Speaker 4: What you got it? Oh, I'm sorry, I can't, I can't.
[12:26] Speaker 4: She did inform him that she was seeing someone.
[12:30] Speaker 11: The boundary was there. Hey, I'm not interested in anything more.
[12:33] Speaker 11: I'm here tonight to have a good time.
[12:36] Speaker 8: Well that's all I'm talking about having a good time.
[12:40] Speaker 9: According to Tnise's cousin, Demetrius didn't want to take no
[12:44] Speaker 9: for an answer.
[12:45] Speaker 4: But if you've ever been to the club, you know
[12:47] Speaker 4: that there's always going to be someone that's going to
[12:50] Speaker 4: try to buy your drinks, et cetera. And sometimes there's
[12:54] Speaker 4: this notion that with those drinks there comes an exchange
[12:58] Speaker 4: of sorts and transaction, right buying your drinks and should
[13:02] Speaker 4: at least buy me something.
[13:03] Speaker 2: Later on, her cousin says that Tranise had eventually had enough.
[13:09] Speaker 7: Trenise decided to ghost Demetrius at the bar.
[13:14] Speaker 12: While he was buying another round of drinks. Trenise, her cousin,
[13:17] Speaker 12: and her sisters had quietly slipped out without telling him.
[13:21] Speaker 2: Trenisa's cousin says they left it a little after two
[13:24] Speaker 2: o'clock in the morning.
[13:26] Speaker 5: My cousin dropped my sister off that home.
[13:30] Speaker 10: You didn't go in with her.
[13:32] Speaker 7: She told me she was good.
[13:35] Speaker 5: My sister called my cousin when she entered her home
[13:38] Speaker 5: and said, I'm in the house. You can go home.
[13:41] Speaker 2: But detectives know that Trenisa's night was far from over.
[13:46] Speaker 7: Police were trying to figure out if she told Demetrius
[13:50] Speaker 7: where she lived or anything of that nature.
[13:53] Speaker 4: This person that was buying them drinks all night could
[13:57] Speaker 4: have followed her home. He could have possibly had this
[14:01] Speaker 4: ego injury. How dare you accept drinks from me and
[14:05] Speaker 4: not give me anything after. Just leave me like this.
[14:08] Speaker 4: He may have engaged in an altercation with her of
[14:12] Speaker 4: some source that led to her death.
[14:14] Speaker 2: Detectives believe they have a person of interest, and while
[14:18] Speaker 2: Trenisi's cousin doesn't know Demetrius's last name, he is able
[14:22] Speaker 2: to provide them with a physical description.
[14:25] Speaker 7: He did say that Demetrius was a decent looking guy,
[14:28] Speaker 7: light skin, in his thirties and bald.
[14:33] Speaker 2: After talking to Trenisa's cousin, detectives canvass the housing complex
[14:38] Speaker 2: looking for possible witnesses.
[14:41] Speaker 4: They come across a neighbor who happened to have been
[14:45] Speaker 4: outside out approximately four am.
[14:49] Speaker 7: While she was smoking a cigarette. She did see a
[14:51] Speaker 7: man leaving Ternese's building.
[14:54] Speaker 12: The description she gave of the man sounded awfully familiar.
[14:58] Speaker 7: He was black, he was light skinned, and he was bald.
[15:08] Speaker 1: Hidden troops and further mystery lie ahead at Stay tuned
[15:13] Speaker 1: for more of the Fatal Attraction podcast.
[15:21] Speaker 2: Detectives investigating the murder of Tranise Johnson suspect they may
[15:26] Speaker 2: have identified the mother of force Killer.
[15:30] Speaker 8: On the night of the murder, Trenise had gone out
[15:31] Speaker 8: to celebrate her birthday, and she had met a guy
[15:34] Speaker 8: who had came on to her pretty aggressively.
[15:36] Speaker 10: So what do you say we got out of here?
[15:40] Speaker 4: She laughed. She ghosted him.
[15:45] Speaker 2: And now talking to one of Tranie's neighbors, detectives believed
[15:49] Speaker 2: the man from the club may have followed her home.
[15:53] Speaker 7: Her neighbor let them know that they did see someone
[15:56] Speaker 7: leaving Ternie's building around four o'clock in the morning the night.
[16:04] Speaker 4: When she was asked to describe him, he was tall, bald,
[16:10] Speaker 4: light skinned.
[16:14] Speaker 7: Detectives do believe that this could be a match to Demetrius.
[16:19] Speaker 2: Before leaving, detectives note a nearby security camera.
[16:24] Speaker 7: Do you tell us we're leasing offices?
[16:26] Speaker 4: The next step is we got to corroborate the stort,
[16:29] Speaker 4: So the detectives go over to the leasing office to
[16:33] Speaker 4: get the footage.
[16:35] Speaker 9: The office manager was able to give them a copy
[16:37] Speaker 9: of their security camera footage from the night before.
[16:41] Speaker 2: Back at the station, detectives find exactly what they're looking for.
[16:47] Speaker 7: They did see a black man bald light skin walk
[16:51] Speaker 7: across the courtyard at a round four am.
[16:55] Speaker 4: They weren't able to tell what it was though.
[16:57] Speaker 2: It's dark and the man in the foot is far
[17:01] Speaker 2: from the camera.
[17:02] Speaker 4: They couldn't see clearly, but they did see this person.
[17:06] Speaker 2: But who is he exactly? All the detectives know is
[17:12] Speaker 2: that the man from the club told Trenise his name
[17:15] Speaker 2: was Demetrius.
[17:17] Speaker 12: They didn't know his last name or even if Demetrius
[17:19] Speaker 12: was his real first name.
[17:21] Speaker 2: The following morning, detectives decide to pay a visit to
[17:25] Speaker 2: the club.
[17:26] Speaker 7: They decided to go to the club to see they
[17:28] Speaker 7: can find out any information that they could about Demetrius.
[17:32] Speaker 4: They have demetrius description, so they questioned the.
[17:35] Speaker 11: Staff, you might have been here with this woman.
[17:39] Speaker 2: Detectives are in luck.
[17:42] Speaker 4: They're like, oh, yeah, you know. Bad guy. Yeah, we've
[17:44] Speaker 4: seen him here, comes off them. Likes to buy the
[17:47] Speaker 4: ladies drinks.
[17:49] Speaker 7: He acts like a player, trying to do what he
[17:52] Speaker 7: can to either take a woman home, get her number,
[17:55] Speaker 7: whatever the case may be. But he does come in often.
[17:59] Speaker 2: But just the detectives think they tracked down the mysterious Demetrius,
[18:04] Speaker 2: they hit a snag.
[18:05] Speaker 7: I don't remember his last name.
[18:08] Speaker 4: He always pays with cash.
[18:10] Speaker 7: She does believe he works at some sort of shipping company.
[18:14] Speaker 4: The airport could have been FedEx ups, but she does
[18:18] Speaker 4: know that much.
[18:21] Speaker 2: It's the slimmest of leads, but after a few phone
[18:25] Speaker 2: calls it appears to pan out.
[18:28] Speaker 4: They find out that there is a Demetrius Barnes working
[18:31] Speaker 4: at one of the shipping companies as a package sorder.
[18:36] Speaker 7: Detectives did speak to the night shift manager who said
[18:39] Speaker 7: he does fit the description and he was off Saturday.
[18:42] Speaker 4: Night, making it very clear that it is possible that
[18:45] Speaker 4: he could have been the same Demetrius that was at
[18:49] Speaker 4: the bar buying Tournee drinks.
[18:53] Speaker 2: Before bringing him in for questioning, the detectives do a
[18:56] Speaker 2: little digging on Demetrious Barnes.
[19:00] Speaker 4: And now that they have a last night, they're able
[19:02] Speaker 4: to go through their database.
[19:05] Speaker 8: When they pulled his criminal record, they suggested that they
[19:08] Speaker 8: may be on the right track.
[19:09] Speaker 7: They did find a handful of domestic violence charges one woman.
[19:15] Speaker 4: One victim even went as far as to get a
[19:18] Speaker 4: restraining order against him because she feared him so.
[19:22] Speaker 2: Much, and the details in the restraining order raise another
[19:28] Speaker 2: red flag.
[19:30] Speaker 7: The woman who followed the restraining order against Demetrius did
[19:34] Speaker 7: say that he was following her and showing up at
[19:37] Speaker 7: her apartment uninvited. So at this point detectives are very
[19:40] Speaker 7: certain that they want to bring him in for questioning.
[19:43] Speaker 4: We have someone who met Urney's, has domestic violence charges
[19:47] Speaker 4: against him, was ghosted and could have possibly had this
[19:52] Speaker 4: injury to his ego and his pride about how dare
[19:56] Speaker 4: you accept drinks from me and not give me anything
[19:59] Speaker 4: after just lea like this? So we have a possible
[20:02] Speaker 4: motive for him to follow her home.
[20:05] Speaker 7: They think that this is this is our guy.
[20:08] Speaker 2: But if that's true, Willie Crack once alone in a
[20:12] Speaker 2: room with detectives.
[20:15] Speaker 10: What's it all about? We need to ask you a
[20:18] Speaker 10: few questions about Trenise Johnson.
[20:20] Speaker 7: Who when they didn't ask him, you know, if they
[20:23] Speaker 7: know Trenise, He says he doesn't know who she is.
[20:27] Speaker 2: To jug his memory, detective showed Demetrius a photo.
[20:31] Speaker 7: They pressed him a little bit more and try to
[20:33] Speaker 7: remind him of the night.
[20:35] Speaker 4: They're saying, are you sure you didn't know her? You
[20:38] Speaker 4: were seen at the club?
[20:40] Speaker 10: See her name's uh Teries.
[20:42] Speaker 7: He says, Oh yeah, I do. I do remember this woman.
[20:46] Speaker 4: He says, I'm not sure she even told me her name.
[20:49] Speaker 4: She and U con trouble or someone you could say that.
[20:52] Speaker 2: When detectives revealed that Trenise was murdered, Demetrious. His response
[20:57] Speaker 2: raised his eyebrows.
[21:00] Speaker 7: Oh that's too bad.
[21:01] Speaker 4: It wasn't the normal response that one would expect. He
[21:05] Speaker 4: wasn't shocked. He was more nonchalant.
[21:09] Speaker 5: That's all you got to say, Hey man, what do
[21:11] Speaker 5: you want?
[21:13] Speaker 4: He's like, well, I only met her the one time.
[21:16] Speaker 2: Or so he claims.
[21:19] Speaker 7: At this point, detective bring up the domestic abuse charges.
[21:23] Speaker 12: We know you like the show upen places you're not wanted.
[21:27] Speaker 10: See what this is all about.
[21:29] Speaker 7: At this point, something clicks in Demitrius's head where he's like,
[21:33] Speaker 7: I think I know where these these cops are trying
[21:35] Speaker 7: to go with this.
[21:38] Speaker 4: He realizes that they're talking about the restraining order, and
[21:41] Speaker 4: Demetrius becomes very defensive and he says, well, that restraining
[21:46] Speaker 4: order was Baske.
[21:48] Speaker 10: Look, man, you got it all wrong. I had nothing
[21:51] Speaker 10: to do with this.
[21:53] Speaker 11: For Demetrius, it's like, listen, all I did was go
[21:55] Speaker 11: out and meet a pretty woman.
[21:58] Speaker 4: So then they say, well, then what did you do
[22:00] Speaker 4: after the club? And he said, well, I didn't go home.
[22:05] Speaker 2: But he says he didn't go to Tranis's either.
[22:09] Speaker 7: He was disappointed that she ghosted him. He thought that
[22:12] Speaker 7: they were getting somewhere, but the night wasn't over for him.
[22:15] Speaker 7: He did text a woman named Sheila Smallwood to connect
[22:19] Speaker 7: with her after the club.
[22:21] Speaker 5: At two am.
[22:23] Speaker 7: Yeah, she's used to This is someone that he texted
[22:26] Speaker 7: this hour normally that he hooks up with.
[22:29] Speaker 4: He says they have this sort of friends with benefits
[22:33] Speaker 4: type hook up relationship.
[22:36] Speaker 2: When the detectives follow up with Sheila, it appears that
[22:39] Speaker 2: Demetrius is telling the truth.
[22:42] Speaker 4: She's able to corroborate the alibi that yes, he didn't
[22:46] Speaker 4: fact go to her house at that time and stayed
[22:49] Speaker 4: the whole night, didn't leave until about ten am the
[22:52] Speaker 4: next day.
[22:53] Speaker 7: He was not with Trenise at the time that she
[22:56] Speaker 7: was murdered.
[22:59] Speaker 2: Less than twenty five four hours into their investigation, detectives
[23:03] Speaker 2: have ruled out suspect number one.
[23:06] Speaker 4: Detectives are feeling very frustrated because their one lead has
[23:11] Speaker 4: now vanished.
[23:13] Speaker 2: When detectives receive the results of Trannis's autopsy, they're no
[23:17] Speaker 2: closer to finding her killer.
[23:20] Speaker 4: There was no DNA evidence and there was no sexual assault,
[23:24] Speaker 4: so there's really no way of crossmatching this to any
[23:28] Speaker 4: one person.
[23:30] Speaker 9: The only thing detectives could really learn was the cause
[23:32] Speaker 9: of death.
[23:34] Speaker 7: She did die from strengulation and aphixiation.
[23:37] Speaker 2: However, just when the investigation is at an impasse, Tranisa's
[23:42] Speaker 2: father contacts the detectives with a troubling piece of news.
[23:47] Speaker 12: The family hadn't been able to reach Artur Alomas, Tenie's
[23:50] Speaker 12: boyfriend and father of her infant daughter.
[23:53] Speaker 4: He's gone off the radar. They cannot find him anywhere.
[23:57] Speaker 12: He's not answering calls.
[23:59] Speaker 2: It's going to voice, which is especially troubling considering what
[24:04] Speaker 2: he says.
[24:04] Speaker 8: Next, Trenise had left the baby with Arturo when she
[24:08] Speaker 8: went out to celebrate her birthday.
[24:10] Speaker 11: The family is now at its what's end, So not
[24:15] Speaker 11: only are they, you know, still mourning the loss of Tennis,
[24:20] Speaker 11: but now they're not fully sure where her daughter is.
[24:28] Speaker 1: Stay tuned for more of the Fatal Attraction podcast.
[24:37] Speaker 2: Detectives investigating Trenise Johnson's murder have just discovered that her boyfriend,
[24:42] Speaker 2: are Teruro Alomas, and their baby daughter are missing.
[24:47] Speaker 4: Before going to the bar, Tornise made sure that her
[24:50] Speaker 4: children were being taken care of by their fathers. So
[24:53] Speaker 4: their families going to the different fathers and making sure
[24:56] Speaker 4: that they check in, and they say they've been unable
[24:59] Speaker 4: to reach out Duro this whole time that things have happened.
[25:04] Speaker 12: Detective set police to the Arturo's apartment, and when they
[25:07] Speaker 12: were able to gain access to the apartment, there was
[25:09] Speaker 12: no sign of Arturo and no sign of the baby either.
[25:13] Speaker 4: The family realizes that the baby is by and panic ensues.
[25:21] Speaker 5: I was worried about my niece. I was just in
[25:24] Speaker 5: shocked about the whole situation.
[25:27] Speaker 11: Where is Arturo, but more importantly, where is the baby?
[25:31] Speaker 12: What happens here?
[25:34] Speaker 2: There's one explanation the detectives have to consider.
[25:38] Speaker 4: The detectives ask, well, do you think that Arturo could
[25:43] Speaker 4: have something to do with this?
[25:45] Speaker 2: Trenis's father isn't sure.
[25:48] Speaker 7: The family is basically saying that they don't know. They
[25:51] Speaker 7: don't know if he could have done this or not.
[25:54] Speaker 5: Why would he do that? Why would he take her?
[25:58] Speaker 4: Remember, they don't know how Fudo very long. They know
[26:01] Speaker 4: him about as long as Toornees knows him.
[26:04] Speaker 2: Looking for Leeds, detectives full Arturo's criminal record.
[26:09] Speaker 3: They're looking at the patterns of his life. You want
[26:12] Speaker 3: to see if he has a violent background.
[26:16] Speaker 7: What they find is troubling, and they did find a
[26:20] Speaker 7: lot of charges against him.
[26:22] Speaker 4: Barturos's record shows that he has several several charges from
[26:27] Speaker 4: robbery all the way up to accravated assault.
[26:33] Speaker 2: But that's not all detectives find in our Turo's background check.
[26:38] Speaker 8: The whole time he had been seeing Trenise, Arturno was
[26:41] Speaker 8: married to someone else.
[26:43] Speaker 5: This was something that he kept a secree.
[26:47] Speaker 9: And now detectives wondered if a jealous wife could be
[26:50] Speaker 9: behind the murder and Arturo's disappearance.
[26:54] Speaker 2: The woman's name is Octavia Smith, but when detectives bring
[26:59] Speaker 2: her in for questioning, she says she hasn't seen Arturo
[27:02] Speaker 2: in months.
[27:04] Speaker 7: When we're basically separated.
[27:07] Speaker 12: She said they were only still married because she didn't
[27:09] Speaker 12: have the money to hire a lawyer.
[27:11] Speaker 2: However, she does admit to knowing about Arturo's relationship with
[27:15] Speaker 2: Trenise and their baby.
[27:18] Speaker 10: What was your relationship back with Trenise?
[27:21] Speaker 5: There wasn't one.
[27:22] Speaker 7: I've never even talked to her.
[27:25] Speaker 8: And you were jealous that she was with Arturo or
[27:27] Speaker 8: that she met his baby?
[27:28] Speaker 7: Bored no?
[27:31] Speaker 2: But is she telling the truth?
[27:34] Speaker 10: Where were you Saturday night?
[27:36] Speaker 2: At home watching TV?
[27:39] Speaker 1: Was anyone with you?
[27:40] Speaker 7: My mom?
[27:42] Speaker 12: But she went to bed around midnight?
[27:45] Speaker 11: Babe.
[27:46] Speaker 12: It was kind of a weak alibi since Trenise didn't
[27:48] Speaker 12: even get home until two o'clock in the morning.
[27:51] Speaker 2: As the detectives in New Jersey or debating whether or
[27:54] Speaker 2: not to rule Arturo's wife out as a suspect, an
[27:58] Speaker 2: officer six hundred miles to the self is weighing a
[28:01] Speaker 2: different decision. The North Carolina cup is outside the small
[28:09] Speaker 2: town of Salisbury when he spunk something illegal on a
[28:13] Speaker 2: car with New Jersey tags.
[28:15] Speaker 7: The car who is driving hid blue lights on their bumper.
[28:20] Speaker 8: The blue lights were a violation since police used bo lights.
[28:24] Speaker 3: And he was also speeding, so something just didn't seem
[28:28] Speaker 3: right with the.
[28:28] Speaker 2: Vehicle switching on his own blue lights. The officer attempts
[28:33] Speaker 2: to stop the driver.
[28:35] Speaker 7: The officer did decide to try to pull over this car.
[28:40] Speaker 2: But the car doesn't stop.
[28:43] Speaker 4: Instead of slowing down, he attempts to flee.
[28:51] Speaker 1: Detectives are on the hunt to find out what happened
[28:55] Speaker 1: to Tranise Johnson. Stay with us as we unlock the
[28:59] Speaker 1: missies that lie ahead. This is a Fatal Attraction Podcast.
[29:10] Speaker 2: Trenise Johnson's family is confronting the awful possibility that her boyfriend,
[29:14] Speaker 2: Arturo Alomas may have murdered the mother before and disappeared
[29:19] Speaker 2: with the couple's two month old daughter.
[29:22] Speaker 5: I was so afraid because I didn't know if he
[29:25] Speaker 5: did something to my knees. I didn't know what to think.
[29:29] Speaker 4: You pray, you panic, and then you pray and panic
[29:32] Speaker 4: some morning.
[29:35] Speaker 2: But while they pray. An officer in North Carolina is
[29:39] Speaker 2: attempting to pull over a suspicious vehicle with new Jersey tags.
[29:45] Speaker 9: He initially tried to pull the car over because it
[29:47] Speaker 9: had those illegal blue lights.
[29:50] Speaker 7: The driver did not pull over and tried to flee.
[29:53] Speaker 10: This a lot of times.
[29:55] Speaker 3: When you attempt to pull the car over and the
[29:59] Speaker 3: vehicles you're using to stop, you're hiding narcotics in the car,
[30:02] Speaker 3: you're hiding.
[30:03] Speaker 10: A weapon in the car, or they're fleeing. They're fleeing something.
[30:08] Speaker 4: The police have to get this car stopped.
[30:12] Speaker 2: After calling in back up, the officer pulls in tight
[30:15] Speaker 2: on the fleeing car to perform what's known as a
[30:18] Speaker 2: precision and mobilization technique.
[30:21] Speaker 12: The pit maneuver is basically the old bump and run
[30:24] Speaker 12: maneuver from Nascar, where you nudge the car you're chasing,
[30:27] Speaker 12: leading the car to temporarily lose control.
[30:30] Speaker 8: The car's spun, and then came to a stopping meeting with.
[30:34] Speaker 2: The fleeing car momentarily stopped. The officers move in.
[30:41] Speaker 9: They cut him off so we couldn't go anywhere, and
[30:43] Speaker 9: then they ordered him out of the vehicle.
[30:45] Speaker 6: Shum me, your hands come on out, step out of
[30:48] Speaker 6: the vehicle.
[30:49] Speaker 4: Lights are going. It's a very tense moment.
[30:53] Speaker 7: The driver does get out of the car and it's
[30:55] Speaker 7: instantly put into handcuffs.
[30:58] Speaker 2: It's only then that the officer realizes there is someone
[31:02] Speaker 2: else in the car.
[31:04] Speaker 4: There is an infant, a baby in the back seat.
[31:09] Speaker 5: She was in a car, not Stretten, no car. See.
[31:14] Speaker 4: They start asking who is this child? He identifies her
[31:18] Speaker 4: as his daughter.
[31:19] Speaker 6: What's your name?
[31:20] Speaker 8: Man?
[31:21] Speaker 13: I'll At that point, the police officer did search the
[31:27] Speaker 13: car and they see a lot of bags packed in
[31:31] Speaker 13: the car, a lot of baby bags with bottles and
[31:34] Speaker 13: different types of supplies that you need for a.
[31:36] Speaker 4: Baby, meaning that he was preparing for a long trip.
[31:41] Speaker 2: The officer also searches through the cars glovebox.
[31:46] Speaker 7: They did see that the car was registered under Trenise's name.
[31:50] Speaker 6: Who's Trenise Johnson.
[31:52] Speaker 4: That's my girlfriend, that's her car.
[31:55] Speaker 12: It was true. Tenise did have two cars, one that
[31:58] Speaker 12: police found outside her apartment and another that she let
[32:00] Speaker 12: Artury use.
[32:02] Speaker 2: What else the officer finds inside the car it's tougher
[32:05] Speaker 2: to explain.
[32:07] Speaker 7: And then the front seat there was a backpack that
[32:09] Speaker 7: had Terenese's cell phone and her wallet.
[32:13] Speaker 4: All of this is giving red.
[32:15] Speaker 7: Flags, so they do ask where's Tenise?
[32:21] Speaker 6: Where's Treenise at Nise? Yeah, your girlfriend, this stuff belongs to.
[32:26] Speaker 4: Her, right The police don't know what has happened in
[32:30] Speaker 4: New Jersey.
[32:32] Speaker 7: They don't know was murdered.
[32:34] Speaker 8: It was only after he had been pulled over. But
[32:36] Speaker 8: he realized that they didn't know everything.
[32:39] Speaker 2: So Arturo attempts to buy himself more time.
[32:43] Speaker 10: We got into an argument. I let her out a
[32:45] Speaker 10: couple miles back.
[32:47] Speaker 5: He told them that he left my sister walking up
[32:52] Speaker 5: the highway because they had an argument.
[32:54] Speaker 6: So she got out, where'd you leave her at?
[32:58] Speaker 10: Right past the store. We had to realize that they
[33:01] Speaker 10: were going to find out.
[33:06] Speaker 1: Hidden troops and further mystery line ahead.
[33:15] Speaker 6: Show me your hands, come on out.
[33:17] Speaker 2: North Carolina police have just stopped our turo A Loomas
[33:21] Speaker 2: for what started as a minor traffic violation.
[33:25] Speaker 9: The trooper initially was going to stop him for those
[33:27] Speaker 9: illegal blue lights, but then he fled, and when they
[33:31] Speaker 9: finally stopped him, they realized he had an unsecured infant.
[33:34] Speaker 7: Right in the back seat.
[33:37] Speaker 4: Whose baby is that they charge him with felony, speeding
[33:41] Speaker 4: to a loud arrest, reckless driving, and child and genderment.
[33:48] Speaker 2: However, the authorities in North Carolina soon learn that our
[33:53] Speaker 2: Touro may be guilty of far more.
[33:56] Speaker 4: It's not until they take him over to the jailed
[34:00] Speaker 4: and start the booking process that they learned that he
[34:06] Speaker 4: is wanted is a person of interest in the death
[34:10] Speaker 4: of Toornise Johnson.
[34:12] Speaker 11: So this has gone from a routine traffic stop to
[34:17] Speaker 11: a multi state case.
[34:23] Speaker 2: Word of our Touro's arrest soon reaches the authorities in
[34:26] Speaker 2: New Jersey and Trenisi's family.
[34:30] Speaker 5: And they tell us that they have a Torom in custody.
[34:34] Speaker 5: And I was relief because he got caught and because
[34:39] Speaker 5: my niece was safe.
[34:41] Speaker 2: And sound, But the family remains sickened by the realization
[34:46] Speaker 2: of what Arturo has done.
[34:49] Speaker 5: Why would he do that to her? Why would he
[34:52] Speaker 5: take her from her kids.
[34:57] Speaker 2: Based on the evidence from the traffic stop, detectives have
[35:00] Speaker 2: little doubt that our Turo killed Trenise.
[35:04] Speaker 10: Why did he have her phone, why her belongings, and.
[35:09] Speaker 12: Why would he tell the trooper that he'd left Trenise
[35:11] Speaker 12: on the side of the road.
[35:13] Speaker 4: He's being asked about her explicitly, and rather than coming clean,
[35:17] Speaker 4: he will do anything in order to get away from
[35:21] Speaker 4: the police and out of this situation.
[35:26] Speaker 2: Detectives also work to place Arturo at the scene of
[35:29] Speaker 2: the crime.
[35:31] Speaker 7: They bring the neighbor in who said that they did
[35:33] Speaker 7: see someone in the courtyard and they show a photo
[35:36] Speaker 7: lineup of several men and she picks out our Turo.
[35:41] Speaker 4: She identifies him as the man that she saw crossing
[35:44] Speaker 4: the courtyard that Sunday morning at four am.
[35:50] Speaker 2: Prosecutors charge our Turo with murder and extradite him back
[35:54] Speaker 2: to New Jersey. When he goes on trial in August
[35:59] Speaker 2: of two thousand and eight, the family is determined to
[36:02] Speaker 2: see that justice is served.
[36:05] Speaker 5: I was pregnant with my daughter, but I made sure
[36:09] Speaker 5: I made every appearance in court.
[36:13] Speaker 2: In their opening statement, prosecutors argue that Trianie's murder was
[36:18] Speaker 2: a clear case of jealousy.
[36:20] Speaker 5: Basically, he was upset because she went out for her birthday.
[36:24] Speaker 5: He seen the videos on social media.
[36:29] Speaker 11: When you have a person that's controlling to see your partner,
[36:32] Speaker 11: you know, at a club where there are other potential
[36:35] Speaker 11: people that may be looking at them. It causes the
[36:38] Speaker 11: person to feel that they are being violated.
[36:41] Speaker 10: There are men.
[36:42] Speaker 3: Who become very jealous if they think that she is
[36:46] Speaker 3: out with someone else.
[36:50] Speaker 2: The prosecutors theorize that when Tranie returned home from the club,
[36:54] Speaker 2: are True was waiting, what are.
[36:58] Speaker 7: You doing in here?
[37:00] Speaker 10: You join? He was just jealous, just enraged.
[37:06] Speaker 5: All she did was walk into the living room and
[37:09] Speaker 5: he attacks her.
[37:11] Speaker 7: And it did escalate to the point where arturoll did
[37:15] Speaker 7: strangle Trenise.
[37:18] Speaker 5: He had no reason to do what he did to
[37:21] Speaker 5: my sister. Nothing in this world will help me or
[37:26] Speaker 5: make me understand.
[37:28] Speaker 2: Why Arturo's brutality didn't end there either.
[37:36] Speaker 7: Instead of leaving her for that, arturerou did tie her
[37:39] Speaker 7: up and put a plastic bag over her head, just
[37:42] Speaker 7: in case the strangulation wasn't enough.
[37:45] Speaker 4: Even if she was just knocked out and came too
[37:48] Speaker 4: later on, she wouldn't be able to breathe.
[37:53] Speaker 2: Then, leaving Trenise to die, Arturo fled with their daughter.
[37:59] Speaker 11: This This man committed this heinous crime against the mother
[38:03] Speaker 11: of his child and also took his baby along with
[38:08] Speaker 11: him for the ride.
[38:10] Speaker 4: They go to North Carolina, and oddly enough, he was
[38:15] Speaker 4: running to North Carolina to go see his own mother.
[38:19] Speaker 7: It is very ironic that he decides to rob four
[38:23] Speaker 7: children of their mother, someone who is supposed to be
[38:28] Speaker 7: the woman that they can go to, they can run
[38:29] Speaker 7: to when they're in trouble. Just for him to go
[38:33] Speaker 7: to his mom when he's in trouble and run to
[38:35] Speaker 7: her knowing that she'd be there for him.
[38:39] Speaker 2: But now Arturo's running is over.
[38:43] Speaker 7: The jury does find Arturo guilty of the murder of Trenis.
[38:48] Speaker 9: The judge sentenced him to seventy five years in prison.
[38:53] Speaker 2: It's essentially a life sentence.
[38:56] Speaker 4: He has to serve eighty five percent of that sentence
[39:00] Speaker 4: as before he's eligible for parole.
[39:03] Speaker 3: He'll be ninety eight when he is even eligible for parole.
[39:08] Speaker 5: Hopefully he will die in jail and he won't be
[39:11] Speaker 5: able to have freedom again. To me, he should have
[39:15] Speaker 5: got the death penalty because he took my sister life.
[39:21] Speaker 2: But nothing will ever bring Trini's back to her children.
[39:26] Speaker 5: And they miss their mother each and every day, each
[39:30] Speaker 5: and every day, no matter how many years it may
[39:33] Speaker 5: be they didn't get the chance to grow with her.
[39:37] Speaker 5: Now they got to grow without her.
[39:39] Speaker 11: My prayer for Trina's three sons and daughter is that
[39:43] Speaker 11: they find peace. Closure is not possible with the situation
[39:48] Speaker 11: like this, but my prayer is that they're in an
[39:50] Speaker 11: environment with family that is able to love on them.
[39:55] Speaker 5: She may not be here physically, but she definitely is
[39:58] Speaker 5: here spiritually. She see everything that goes on. She know
[40:03] Speaker 5: everything that goes on. She is our guardian angel.
