[0:39] Speaker 1: podcast with Murderous Creed.
[0:49] Speaker 3: November three, two thousand and six. It's Friday morning in
[0:53] Speaker 3: San Francisco, California, an iconic city which has reinvented itself
[0:58] Speaker 3: time and time again.
[1:01] Speaker 4: San Francisco is a microcosm of every type of culture
[1:04] Speaker 4: you can ever imagine. Everybody is accepted and you can
[1:08] Speaker 4: live your life however you choose to live it.
[1:11] Speaker 5: There's a lot of action going on in San Francisco.
[1:15] Speaker 5: We have major shows there, dining restaurants, a lot of
[1:19] Speaker 5: entertainment if they're in the city.
[1:24] Speaker 3: So much so that when twenty two year old Chavon
[1:27] Speaker 3: Boone doesn't return to pick up her son at the
[1:29] Speaker 3: end of a night out, her babysitter isn't immediately concerned.
[1:35] Speaker 4: Miss Boone had an engagement and her neighbor was watching
[1:38] Speaker 4: her son.
[1:41] Speaker 6: Carla Chavon's neighbor. We just thought maybe she'd drink too
[1:44] Speaker 6: much this time, or her phone died.
[1:48] Speaker 7: Leave, ma'amss I not get back to you.
[1:50] Speaker 8: All right, We're from Shavan. I'm trying to see you.
[1:54] Speaker 8: All right, I'm calling to leave this message far.
[1:58] Speaker 9: All right, let's go get ready for okay.
[2:05] Speaker 3: But as the hours pass, worry begins to creep in.
[2:10] Speaker 4: It was out of character from Miss Boon to leave
[2:12] Speaker 4: her son with her for that amount of time. She
[2:16] Speaker 4: became concerned.
[2:17] Speaker 8: All right, I hope you all right, you are got
[2:22] Speaker 8: your fun all whatever, And you haven't called me. Aren't nothing?
[2:26] Speaker 8: Now I'm really worried about you. Now, so you've called me.
[2:33] Speaker 3: And by the third day, with still no word from Chavon,
[2:38] Speaker 3: Carla's worry turns to panic.
[2:41] Speaker 10: When she hadn't heard back from her the next morning,
[2:44] Speaker 10: she knew this was very serious.
[2:52] Speaker 11: Hello, I get a call one day from Carla.
[2:56] Speaker 9: Hey is a sharp Yeah, yeah, this is Carla. I'm
[3:00] Speaker 9: actually Chavon's neighbor, and I babysit her son. From time
[3:03] Speaker 9: to time.
[3:04] Speaker 7: Yeah, she gave me her number in case of emergencies.
[3:07] Speaker 12: I say, what's going on? What's that?
[3:09] Speaker 9: And maybe nothing. I'm just starting to get a little worried.
[3:12] Speaker 3: Honestly that she explains the situation, shar stands in stunned silence.
[3:20] Speaker 13: Carla told her that the last time she spoke to
[3:23] Speaker 13: Schavon was close to three days ago.
[3:25] Speaker 7: Three days.
[3:27] Speaker 12: I'm like, where'd she go?
[3:32] Speaker 3: Well, she may have been small in stature, Chavon Boone
[3:36] Speaker 3: had a personality that could fill a room.
[3:39] Speaker 11: She was loving, funny, smart, very energetic.
[3:44] Speaker 14: If you was having a bad day, she was someone
[3:47] Speaker 14: to be around.
[3:48] Speaker 3: The youngest of six, Chavon learned early on that she
[3:52] Speaker 3: had to speak up to make sure her voice was heard.
[3:55] Speaker 14: She gonna say what she want to say, how she
[3:57] Speaker 14: want to say it.
[3:59] Speaker 3: Along with her big personality wasn't even bigger hard.
[4:03] Speaker 11: If she loved you, she would do anything for you.
[4:07] Speaker 11: We called her money, she would give you her last dollar.
[4:12] Speaker 14: If we was out of hand or we was arguing
[4:14] Speaker 14: amongst ourselves. She was that peacemaker.
[4:20] Speaker 3: But nothing brought the Boone family together quite like music.
[4:24] Speaker 11: The entire family is really musically inclined.
[4:28] Speaker 14: We just took a hold of music. I could sing,
[4:31] Speaker 14: play an instrument.
[4:33] Speaker 3: And Chavonne was no exception.
[4:36] Speaker 14: She was a hell of a singer. The first time
[4:38] Speaker 14: I actually heard her saying you could hear it, you
[4:41] Speaker 14: knew she had it.
[4:43] Speaker 11: She really just loved music. She spoke to us through music.
[4:50] Speaker 3: But at seventeen, Chavon's priority shifted.
[4:55] Speaker 6: During her senior year of high school, she found out
[4:58] Speaker 6: she was pregnant.
[5:00] Speaker 11: She was like, sis, I don't want to tell dad.
[5:02] Speaker 11: He's going to be so disappointed.
[5:09] Speaker 3: But her family stood by her.
[5:13] Speaker 14: She knew at the end of the day, we had.
[5:17] Speaker 10: However, that wasn't the case with the baby's mother. He
[5:21] Speaker 10: wanted no part in raising the child.
[5:25] Speaker 11: I'm just like, you know what, at this point, you're
[5:28] Speaker 11: doing great, so just move on.
[5:37] Speaker 3: Despite her circumstances, Chavon wanted to create the best life
[5:41] Speaker 3: she could for her and her son.
[5:44] Speaker 11: I believe she came to that conclusion that she would
[5:49] Speaker 11: be on double duty, so to speak, in regards to
[5:52] Speaker 11: parent and her son.
[5:55] Speaker 14: She got a job, she was working at a good will.
[5:57] Speaker 14: She actually got her own place.
[6:00] Speaker 11: And now I was just elated, like so happy for
[6:03] Speaker 11: her that you know, she was moving out on her
[6:07] Speaker 11: own and just really doing her grown up thing with
[6:11] Speaker 11: her son.
[6:13] Speaker 3: Still, Chavon was longing for something more, and after a
[6:19] Speaker 3: few years on her own, she was ready for love again.
[6:23] Speaker 15: She was dating, but she was private about it.
[6:26] Speaker 8: Hi.
[6:26] Speaker 11: You, She would tell me certain things. She would never
[6:30] Speaker 11: say a name. She would just always say, like my
[6:33] Speaker 11: food or something.
[6:34] Speaker 3: What the truth was. She didn't want to bring just
[6:37] Speaker 3: any guy home. Well, of course I want to see you.
[6:41] Speaker 11: If the person that she was dating was important, we
[6:44] Speaker 11: would know him.
[6:51] Speaker 3: But no, they may never get the chance.
[6:54] Speaker 7: Hello.
[6:55] Speaker 6: That morning, Chavonne's sister, Sharah got a call from Chavon's
[6:58] Speaker 6: neighbor saying she's why her son and hadn't been able
[7:01] Speaker 6: to get a hold of her in over two days.
[7:03] Speaker 7: Why am I only hearing about this now?
[7:05] Speaker 2: I wasn't sure what to do.
[7:06] Speaker 16: I really thought she would call.
[7:09] Speaker 4: The quicker that you report somebody missing, the better.
[7:12] Speaker 3: To Shara, Carla's behavior is suspicious.
[7:18] Speaker 5: One thing that stood out is the amount of time
[7:21] Speaker 5: that went by before someone reported her missing.
[7:24] Speaker 4: It was a little bit long for her not to
[7:28] Speaker 4: alert anybody.
[7:29] Speaker 16: I'm going to employees, what could she be hiding?
[7:38] Speaker 1: Get ready to dive headfirst? Into a storm of lies
[7:43] Speaker 1: and deception. Stay tuned for more of the Fatal Attraction podcast.
[7:53] Speaker 3: Ambitious twenty two year old Shavon Boone was successfully creating
[7:58] Speaker 3: a great life for herself and her young son.
[8:01] Speaker 12: I knew she would be a great mom.
[8:03] Speaker 17: She had a job she loved, she was renting a house.
[8:07] Speaker 17: She was really doing well.
[8:10] Speaker 3: Hello until three days ago, when, according to her neighbor Carla,
[8:15] Speaker 3: Chavon dropped off her son for the evening but hasn't
[8:18] Speaker 3: been heard from since.
[8:21] Speaker 10: Her sister can't comprehend why Carla would have waited to
[8:25] Speaker 10: report Chavon missing.
[8:28] Speaker 7: I'm going to the police. Okay, I'm he there.
[8:32] Speaker 12: It does make you wonder.
[8:37] Speaker 3: Shara heads to the San Francisco Police Department, picking up
[8:41] Speaker 3: their brother Darius on the way.
[8:44] Speaker 2: Hey there, how can I help you?
[8:46] Speaker 7: It's her sister, she's missing.
[8:48] Speaker 13: When they tell the officer that Chavonne had already been
[8:51] Speaker 13: missing a few days, he immediately starts the report.
[8:56] Speaker 17: Darius and Shower gave them all the information they could
[9:00] Speaker 17: a photo of this sister.
[9:02] Speaker 2: Has Chavon ever done anything like this before?
[9:06] Speaker 4: It was out of character for miss Boon to leave
[9:09] Speaker 4: her son for that amount of time.
[9:11] Speaker 2: Did she have problems with anyone that you know of?
[9:14] Speaker 2: Maybe the father of the child, No, not anyone like that.
[9:18] Speaker 10: Chavon's family at that point did express some concerns about
[9:23] Speaker 10: her neighbor Carla.
[9:25] Speaker 3: She had told that Shavan was missing this morning, Like,
[9:28] Speaker 3: who does that?
[9:29] Speaker 4: If miss boone was late to pick up her son,
[9:32] Speaker 4: that person should be making some phone calls.
[9:34] Speaker 3: But Chavon's family isn't sure why Carla would want to
[9:37] Speaker 3: harm their sister.
[9:39] Speaker 11: As far as I knew, she took care of her son,
[9:43] Speaker 11: but I never met Carla.
[9:45] Speaker 6: None of this was making sense. Why would Carla her Chavon?
[9:49] Speaker 6: Did she owe her money? Was this about a guy
[9:51] Speaker 6: they just didn't know?
[9:53] Speaker 3: As the officer is wrapping up the report, Carla arrives
[9:57] Speaker 3: with Chavon's son.
[10:00] Speaker 13: An officer took Carlos straight to an interview room so
[10:03] Speaker 13: a detective could find out her side of the story.
[10:08] Speaker 17: With the detective set down with her, she insisted that
[10:11] Speaker 17: she had no idea as to where Chavonne would be,
[10:15] Speaker 17: and she seemed genuinely worried.
[10:18] Speaker 2: So just to be clear, you two didn't have any issues,
[10:20] Speaker 2: is that right?
[10:22] Speaker 4: No?
[10:22] Speaker 7: Me and her were friends.
[10:23] Speaker 14: Well, she needed somebody to like look at to her son,
[10:26] Speaker 14: she always count on the neighbor.
[10:29] Speaker 4: Well, then, why did you wait so long to call
[10:31] Speaker 4: Shabon's family.
[10:32] Speaker 7: I was just looking out for her.
[10:34] Speaker 9: There's just some things in her family she didn't want
[10:37] Speaker 9: them to find out.
[10:39] Speaker 10: Carla explains Chavonn wasn't making enough money at goodwillth.
[10:44] Speaker 5: In Sou Francisco, the cost of living is very, very high.
[10:48] Speaker 5: Folks may find themselves working two, three, maybe even four
[10:52] Speaker 5: jobs in the area trying to make ends meet.
[10:55] Speaker 11: It's expensive out here. She did the best she could.
[11:00] Speaker 3: But it wasn't enough to keep food on the table,
[11:03] Speaker 3: which meant she had to make a difficult choice.
[11:06] Speaker 15: Shavan was escorting for extra cash.
[11:10] Speaker 4: Miss Boone made that decision so she could take care
[11:13] Speaker 4: of her child if she was doing it as a
[11:16] Speaker 4: necessity to help pay her bills.
[11:20] Speaker 3: Carla tells the detective that Chavn had kept what she
[11:24] Speaker 3: was doing a secret from her family.
[11:26] Speaker 7: And I think she was ashamed and she just didn't
[11:31] Speaker 7: want anybody to know.
[11:32] Speaker 4: It would not be uncommon for a sex worker to
[11:36] Speaker 4: shield her family from what she's doing.
[11:40] Speaker 3: If what Carla is saying is true, it could pose
[11:44] Speaker 3: serious problems for the investigation.
[11:47] Speaker 4: Being a sex worker anywhere is a dangerous line of work.
[11:51] Speaker 4: That sex worker is in a very vulnerable position.
[11:55] Speaker 6: Escorts could be in contact with multiple men at any
[11:57] Speaker 6: given time, which could make for a law missa suspects.
[12:01] Speaker 3: Further complicating matters, Carla claims not to know who Chavonne
[12:06] Speaker 3: was seeing on the night she disappeared.
[12:09] Speaker 2: Did you happen to get the guy's name?
[12:12] Speaker 7: No, but I do know where they went.
[12:14] Speaker 13: Though she was able to tell them which restaurant Chavon
[12:19] Speaker 13: said she was going to that night.
[12:22] Speaker 4: A natural step would be to make contact with that
[12:25] Speaker 4: establishment to see if they remember seeing her at the business.
[12:31] Speaker 3: Officers pay a visit to the restaurant, but no one
[12:34] Speaker 3: seems to remember Chavonne.
[12:37] Speaker 17: Restaurants in downtown San Francisco could have hundreds of customers
[12:40] Speaker 17: at night, so it wasn't surprising that they didn't remember her.
[12:47] Speaker 3: However, the officer is able to retrieve surveillance footage from
[12:51] Speaker 3: outside the restaurant on the night in question.
[12:55] Speaker 4: You see the missing person, Miss Spoon, and another person.
[13:00] Speaker 10: She was with, the Blackmail, maybe in his late twenties
[13:04] Speaker 10: or early thirties.
[13:06] Speaker 3: Unfortunately, they have no easy way to track the man down.
[13:11] Speaker 6: When they followed up at the restaurant, they learned the
[13:14] Speaker 6: man Chavon was with paid in cash, so there was
[13:16] Speaker 6: no record.
[13:17] Speaker 3: Or who he was, So the detective checks with Chavon's family.
[13:23] Speaker 4: The police take a snapshot of that video.
[13:26] Speaker 13: He emailed a copy of the still to Chavon's siblings,
[13:30] Speaker 13: but they didn't recognize him either.
[13:33] Speaker 3: With no leads on the man's identity, the detective shifts
[13:37] Speaker 3: his focus back to Chauvon.
[13:40] Speaker 17: He started calling hospitals and nearby jails to see if
[13:44] Speaker 17: anyone had a record of Chevon being there, but no
[13:47] Speaker 17: one did.
[13:48] Speaker 4: Every dead end is frustrating, but the next step, which
[13:52] Speaker 4: is crucial, is writing search warrants for telephone records and
[13:58] Speaker 4: her social media to see who she's been dealing with.
[14:02] Speaker 10: There's a lot of red take to cut through to
[14:05] Speaker 10: get to someone's personal records, and that takes time, and
[14:09] Speaker 10: the detective's time may be up.
[14:13] Speaker 13: A woman called nine one one saying she came across
[14:16] Speaker 13: a trash bin with what appeared to be human remains inside.
[14:22] Speaker 1: Remember stay tuned for more of the Fatal Attraction podcast.
[14:38] Speaker 3: After a twenty two year old single mom, Chavon Boone disappeared.
[14:43] Speaker 3: Her neighbor revealed to investigators that she was living a
[14:47] Speaker 3: double life.
[14:48] Speaker 17: Chavan was escorted for extra cash, which opened the world
[14:52] Speaker 17: of possible suspects. Unfortunately, it put a case at a
[14:56] Speaker 17: standstill until they can receive her personal records.
[15:02] Speaker 3: But in nearby Oakland, California Police Dispatch has just received
[15:06] Speaker 3: an urgent call.
[15:08] Speaker 6: Oakland nine one one received the call reporting, will look
[15:11] Speaker 6: to be a body inside a trash can.
[15:16] Speaker 11: I don't have that.
[15:28] Speaker 10: She didn't see the whole body, so she couldn't give
[15:30] Speaker 10: a description of the victim.
[15:34] Speaker 15: The move.
[15:40] Speaker 3: Officers arrived within minutes and quickly locate the remains.
[15:45] Speaker 6: They found a bloody body that was wrapped in a
[15:47] Speaker 6: moving blanket.
[15:50] Speaker 17: It was clear there was nothing they could do for
[15:52] Speaker 17: the victim. Riga martis had already set in and the
[15:55] Speaker 17: body had been there for a couple of days.
[16:01] Speaker 2: Can you go ahead and start major crimes?
[16:04] Speaker 13: This was obviously a homicide, so the first thing they're
[16:07] Speaker 13: going to look for is anything to id the victim.
[16:10] Speaker 13: But there was no wallet or id near the body.
[16:14] Speaker 10: There was really no evidence around the scene at all,
[16:18] Speaker 10: no signs of a struggle.
[16:19] Speaker 3: It was clear that the victim was killed elsewhere. As
[16:24] Speaker 3: officers conclude their search, the medical examiner arrives to transport
[16:29] Speaker 3: the body for autopsy.
[16:31] Speaker 6: They left a victim inside of the trash bin while
[16:34] Speaker 6: it was moved in order to preserve any possible evidence.
[16:38] Speaker 4: It's not unusual for a victim of a homicide to
[16:42] Speaker 4: be transported to the sanitary location and the container that
[16:46] Speaker 4: they were found in disturbing that would just degrade the evidence.
[16:56] Speaker 3: The case is then handed over to Oakland homicide detectives.
[17:00] Speaker 17: The emmy had gotten the victim prepared for autopsy, so
[17:04] Speaker 17: detectives could seen that the body belonged to an African
[17:06] Speaker 17: American female roughly in her early twenties.
[17:11] Speaker 13: They started by running her description through missing persons and
[17:16] Speaker 13: they found an open case nearby in San Francisco.
[17:20] Speaker 10: When they pull up the report, they were able to
[17:23] Speaker 10: confirm that the body was that of twenty two year
[17:26] Speaker 10: old Chavon Lum.
[17:28] Speaker 3: Judging by Chavonne's body, whoever killed her had acted ruthlessly.
[17:33] Speaker 2: Could you tell us a little bit more about her?
[17:35] Speaker 6: She was severely beaten, but her cause of death was
[17:37] Speaker 6: actually a gunshot wound to her neck.
[17:40] Speaker 13: The stippling pattern on her skin showed that she had
[17:43] Speaker 13: been shot at close range, and the corner was able
[17:46] Speaker 13: to determine that the bullet severed her spinal court.
[17:51] Speaker 3: The corner also uncovers evidence that could give detectives their
[17:55] Speaker 3: first lead.
[17:56] Speaker 2: Were you able to point in DNA, Actually we've got
[17:59] Speaker 2: two results.
[18:01] Speaker 17: The emmy found similar fluid from two different men on
[18:05] Speaker 17: Schavan's body, so they could be looking for more than
[18:09] Speaker 17: one killer.
[18:11] Speaker 3: While the coroner finished at Chavin's autopsy, detectives begin their investigation.
[18:17] Speaker 4: The Oakland Police Department. It made contact with the San
[18:20] Speaker 4: Francisco Police Department, and the San Francisco Police Department gave
[18:24] Speaker 4: Oakland PD all the information that they had.
[18:28] Speaker 3: They then faced the difficult task of notifying Chavon's family.
[18:34] Speaker 11: He said they found her did in a recycling being
[18:39] Speaker 11: in Oakland.
[18:42] Speaker 12: The gut wrenching devastation, like to hear that it was
[18:48] Speaker 12: too much think it on.
[18:51] Speaker 14: How it happened, The fight that she had to put
[18:54] Speaker 14: up broke my heart. I crushed me. Worst day of
[18:59] Speaker 14: my lot.
[19:01] Speaker 3: Chavon's family has no idea who could have done this.
[19:05] Speaker 10: Detectives mentioned Chavon's side hustle as an escort to see
[19:10] Speaker 10: she was having any problems. With anybody, but the family
[19:14] Speaker 10: is shocked they had no idea.
[19:17] Speaker 6: Sharha tells them that Chavin's close friend Jana may know
[19:20] Speaker 6: more about her personal life and gives them her contact information.
[19:25] Speaker 3: When detectives reach out to Jena, she readily comes in
[19:29] Speaker 3: for an interview.
[19:31] Speaker 2: I want to thank you for coming in. I'm sorry
[19:33] Speaker 2: for your loss.
[19:34] Speaker 3: And she may have the information to give them their
[19:38] Speaker 3: first lead.
[19:39] Speaker 10: There's this one guy, her ex boyfriend, josh Bishop.
[19:44] Speaker 13: Jena tells them that Chavaon thought that he was a
[19:48] Speaker 13: perfect gentleman. At first, he picked her up at her
[19:51] Speaker 13: house and opened doors for her when they went out.
[19:56] Speaker 3: But after a few dates something changed.
[20:02] Speaker 17: Chavank She saw him going through her phone.
[20:06] Speaker 10: He saw all the messages with other men and put
[20:09] Speaker 10: two and two together and realized she was an escort.
[20:13] Speaker 3: He was furious.
[20:15] Speaker 7: He threatened her.
[20:17] Speaker 16: She wanted to make her pay.
[20:24] Speaker 1: Tireless detectives come together to untangle.
[20:28] Speaker 16: The web of betrayal.
[20:30] Speaker 1: Stay tuned for more of the Fatal Attraction podcast.
[20:39] Speaker 3: Twenty two year old Chavon Boone has gone from a
[20:42] Speaker 3: missing person to a murder victim after her body was
[20:45] Speaker 3: located in a garbage can in Oakland, California.
[20:49] Speaker 13: Her autopsy showed that she had been brutally attacked, possibly
[20:53] Speaker 13: by two men, and shot in the neck.
[20:56] Speaker 4: They had no regard for Miss Boone's life. They put
[21:01] Speaker 4: her in a garbage can and throughout as though she
[21:04] Speaker 4: was the lowest form of life.
[21:09] Speaker 3: Now, Chauvin's friend Jana has revealed that she was having
[21:13] Speaker 3: issues with a man she'd recently started dating named Josh Bishop.
[21:18] Speaker 17: He found out that she was escorted on the side,
[21:21] Speaker 17: and he was not happy about that.
[21:24] Speaker 2: Do you know if they ever saw each other again
[21:26] Speaker 2: after that night, I don't think so.
[21:31] Speaker 3: Detectives pulled Josh's information to see if he could be
[21:34] Speaker 3: the man with Chavon at the restaurant the night she
[21:37] Speaker 3: was killed.
[21:39] Speaker 10: Maybe they had gone out that night to reconcile and reconnect.
[21:44] Speaker 3: But they immediately find a.
[21:45] Speaker 13: Problem as soon as they see his photo, they realized
[21:50] Speaker 13: that this is not the man in that restaurant footage.
[21:54] Speaker 16: That man is black, Josh is white.
[21:57] Speaker 3: Of course, that doesn't rule him out as Chavin killer.
[22:01] Speaker 6: It was possible that she had gone to dinner with
[22:03] Speaker 6: one guy then met with Josh later in the evening.
[22:06] Speaker 3: When detectives asked Josh to come in for questioning. He agrees, do.
[22:11] Speaker 2: You hear about Chavon?
[22:13] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[22:13] Speaker 2: I saw it on the news.
[22:14] Speaker 12: It's terrible.
[22:16] Speaker 17: Josh had heard about Chavin's murder, but he did not
[22:19] Speaker 17: having any special knowledge about the crime.
[22:22] Speaker 10: He says he hasn't talked to Chavon in a few days.
[22:26] Speaker 3: However, his demeanor strengths detectives as suspicious.
[22:31] Speaker 16: He seemed detached.
[22:32] Speaker 13: If he had feelings for Chavon a few weeks earlier,
[22:36] Speaker 13: he certainly didn't show it.
[22:37] Speaker 2: Now, what was your relationship, Mike? You know, casual?
[22:43] Speaker 3: But when they ask about the night he found out
[22:45] Speaker 3: Chavon was an escort, Josh admits that he'd gotten angry.
[22:50] Speaker 2: Well, how would you feel about it?
[22:52] Speaker 13: That's the kind of thing you're supposed to tell someone.
[22:54] Speaker 17: He said, Yes he was mad, Yes they had words,
[22:58] Speaker 17: but he didn't threaten her.
[23:00] Speaker 13: When she said she was done with me, I was
[23:02] Speaker 13: on the same page.
[23:04] Speaker 2: So you're saying you had nothing to do with the murder, of.
[23:08] Speaker 3: Course, and he says he can prove it.
[23:12] Speaker 10: He said after work the knight Chavn was killed, that
[23:15] Speaker 10: he went to San Jose to meet with friends. They
[23:18] Speaker 10: went to a few clubs and then he spent the
[23:20] Speaker 10: night on their couches.
[23:24] Speaker 3: When detectives look into Josh's story, it appears to check out.
[23:29] Speaker 13: They spoke to Josh's friends and confirmed he had been
[23:33] Speaker 13: with them all night.
[23:35] Speaker 6: They were also able to contact his bank and get
[23:37] Speaker 6: statements showing that his credit card had been used in
[23:41] Speaker 6: nightclubs in San Jose.
[23:44] Speaker 3: Which means detectives are back at square one.
[23:48] Speaker 17: For a detective, is such a disheartening moment.
[23:52] Speaker 4: You think that you have a natural investigative lead, and
[23:55] Speaker 4: it is so difficult to get that next lead.
[23:59] Speaker 3: But this time they won't have to wait long.
[24:03] Speaker 10: The detective in San Francisco finally got access to Chava's
[24:07] Speaker 10: accounts and was able to send everything over.
[24:11] Speaker 4: A lot of times, a person who recently appears in
[24:14] Speaker 4: a phone record is somebody you want to talk to
[24:17] Speaker 4: in the investigation.
[24:19] Speaker 13: According to her phone record, Chavon had been in communication
[24:23] Speaker 13: with numerous men leading.
[24:25] Speaker 3: Up to her murder, but on the night she died,
[24:29] Speaker 3: Chavon had only been in contact with one individual, a
[24:33] Speaker 3: man named Frank Irwine.
[24:36] Speaker 4: Law enforcement identified Frank as a possible suspect.
[24:41] Speaker 6: When they pull his criminal record, his mugshot comes up
[24:44] Speaker 6: and they can see that Frank Irwine was the person
[24:47] Speaker 6: with Chavon in the restaurant footage.
[24:51] Speaker 3: It also reveals that Frank has had his fair share
[24:54] Speaker 3: of run ins with the law.
[24:57] Speaker 4: Frank was somebody with a robbery pasted.
[25:00] Speaker 15: It wasn't just petty thefts.
[25:02] Speaker 17: There was at least one robbery when Frank was armed
[25:05] Speaker 17: and it got violent.
[25:07] Speaker 3: With a new prime suspect, detectives review Chavon's bank records
[25:12] Speaker 3: and find insight into a possible motive.
[25:16] Speaker 10: After Chavon left the restaurant, there was an un usually
[25:20] Speaker 10: large withdrawal from her bank account.
[25:24] Speaker 13: This was really a good lead all ATMs have surveilled.
[25:28] Speaker 16: So they retrieved the footage.
[25:31] Speaker 4: Video really doesn't lie.
[25:33] Speaker 3: But as the tape rolls, detectives are speechless.
[25:38] Speaker 6: They see Shavon standing at the ATM.
[25:41] Speaker 15: There are two men with her, but neither of them
[25:43] Speaker 15: is Frank.
[25:51] Speaker 1: Stay tuned for more of the Fatal Attraction podcast.
[26:01] Speaker 3: When Oakland detectives discovered that Chavon Boone was with an
[26:04] Speaker 3: ex Cohn named Frank Irwine on the night she was killed,
[26:08] Speaker 3: they were sure they'd found their man.
[26:11] Speaker 4: Once they've identified Frank as a possible suspect, naturally you
[26:17] Speaker 4: go into his past and see if he was convicted
[26:20] Speaker 4: of similar crimes type robbery. It wouldn't be unusual to
[26:24] Speaker 4: think that that they have started this incident out.
[26:28] Speaker 3: But now detectives have uncovered surveillance footage of Chauvon being
[26:33] Speaker 3: robbed by two unknown men.
[26:37] Speaker 13: Could they be Frank's accomplices or were they some guys
[26:40] Speaker 13: that Yavonne met up with later that night and Frank
[26:43] Speaker 13: had nothing to do with this.
[26:45] Speaker 3: Determined to get answers, detectives bring Frank in, but in
[26:50] Speaker 3: the interview room, he denies ever even meeting Chavon.
[26:58] Speaker 4: No, he could be lying for whatever reason.
[27:03] Speaker 3: When he's confronted with the evidence, Frank doubles down.
[27:08] Speaker 6: Detective lay out the phone records that show him and
[27:11] Speaker 6: Chavon communicating.
[27:12] Speaker 12: On the night of the murder.
[27:14] Speaker 2: Her phone number and your phone wire calling each other.
[27:17] Speaker 8: Is that right? Yeah?
[27:18] Speaker 2: And that's why I'm asking you if you remember her.
[27:21] Speaker 8: No.
[27:22] Speaker 3: However, detectives still have one more bumbshell to drop.
[27:28] Speaker 10: When Frank came in for questioning, they were able to
[27:31] Speaker 10: perform a rapid DNA test and it was a match
[27:35] Speaker 10: to the DNA found on Chavon's body.
[27:39] Speaker 1: We have your biological evidence associated with this little girl.
[27:43] Speaker 14: What do you mean biological evidence?
[27:45] Speaker 2: I found my DNA on their body your seamen.
[27:48] Speaker 8: Wow.
[27:50] Speaker 3: Despite the overwhelming evidence, Frank denies having any involvement.
[27:55] Speaker 8: I do nothing wrong.
[27:56] Speaker 14: I have nothing ee you that I just had sex
[28:01] Speaker 14: with her, I said.
[28:04] Speaker 2: I wish I could remember you know what I'm saying,
[28:06] Speaker 2: But I can't.
[28:09] Speaker 16: He's totally stole walling.
[28:13] Speaker 3: So detectives try a new tactic.
[28:17] Speaker 6: Oakland p D asked investigators from the District Attorney's office
[28:21] Speaker 6: to come in and basically say, this is your last chance.
[28:25] Speaker 3: There's anything you need to say and complaint, it's time
[28:27] Speaker 3: to do it now, because this is this is the time.
[28:31] Speaker 3: There ain't no other time for you to address the dr.
[28:33] Speaker 12: This is it Money? What nickname?
[28:41] Speaker 17: Suddenly, Frank said the woman then the photos name is Money,
[28:46] Speaker 17: which is a nickname Chavon's family gave to her.
[28:50] Speaker 3: Frank explains that he and Money had met at a
[28:53] Speaker 3: bookstore in downtown Oakland on the same day Chavon went missing.
[28:58] Speaker 8: Are going there?
[28:59] Speaker 4: Approached me and then she told me your name is.
[29:02] Speaker 3: Money, he said.
[29:03] Speaker 10: They flirted a little bit, exchanged phone numbers, and then
[29:07] Speaker 10: a few hours later they met back up to have sex.
[29:11] Speaker 3: Afterwards, he claims he and Chavn went their separate ways.
[29:16] Speaker 14: I never had again.
[29:19] Speaker 13: At this point, Frank has plausible deniability.
[29:23] Speaker 16: He could be telling the truth, so police have to let.
[29:25] Speaker 3: Him walk, But detectives think Frank is still lying.
[29:31] Speaker 6: After that interview, they start going through his phone records
[29:35] Speaker 6: and they see two names coming up again and again
[29:37] Speaker 6: that night, Kristin Daily and Terence Anderson.
[29:41] Speaker 17: They pulled the fowls and boom, there were the two
[29:45] Speaker 17: suspects seen in the ATM footage.
[29:48] Speaker 3: After filing an emergency subpoena for Terrence and Christian's phones,
[29:53] Speaker 3: detectives uncover even more evidence against the trio.
[29:57] Speaker 10: They looked at their location data and saw that Frank, Christian,
[30:02] Speaker 10: and Terrence were all at the ATM at the same
[30:05] Speaker 10: time as Chavon.
[30:08] Speaker 3: When detectives bring their new suspects in for questioning, Terence
[30:12] Speaker 3: Anderson refuses to talk.
[30:15] Speaker 16: They got nowhere. He immediately asked.
[30:18] Speaker 2: For a lawyer.
[30:21] Speaker 3: Christian Daily, however, agrees to speak with detectives.
[30:26] Speaker 12: Unlike Frank.
[30:27] Speaker 6: When they show him a picture of Chavon, he says
[30:29] Speaker 6: he recognizes her.
[30:31] Speaker 2: Where'd you meet her at now?
[30:33] Speaker 3: Now?
[30:33] Speaker 2: Did you meet her alone? Or was she with some
[30:35] Speaker 2: other people too.
[30:37] Speaker 17: With the other guys, Christin says he was sitting at
[30:40] Speaker 17: the bus stop when they came around. They all started
[30:43] Speaker 17: talking and hanging out, which contradicts the story that Frank
[30:47] Speaker 17: told them.
[30:48] Speaker 3: Christian identifies the men Chauvin was with as Terence Anderson
[30:54] Speaker 3: and Frank Irwine.
[30:55] Speaker 12: I see her with.
[30:56] Speaker 3: These guys, and they obviously have some coplications.
[31:00] Speaker 7: I know how they get him, you know what I mean?
[31:03] Speaker 2: She looks here.
[31:08] Speaker 3: Then, Christian says, they headed off toward an ATM, and
[31:12] Speaker 3: he followed, what ETM do you guys? Go to Wells
[31:16] Speaker 3: Farber right, get on the corner, okay, right there via
[31:20] Speaker 3: the city center right.
[31:22] Speaker 10: Christian identified the same ATM where detectives found surveillance video
[31:27] Speaker 10: of chavan.
[31:29] Speaker 3: However, Christian insists that if there was a robbery going on,
[31:34] Speaker 3: he wasn't involved.
[31:36] Speaker 13: He claimed if something the fairious was going on, he
[31:39] Speaker 13: had no part in it. He claimed he only tagged
[31:42] Speaker 13: along because he was worried about Chavon.
[31:46] Speaker 6: He says, after she got her money out of the ATM,
[31:49] Speaker 6: Chavon assured him that she was okay.
[31:52] Speaker 15: He said. Chavon left with Terence and Frank.
[31:57] Speaker 2: All right, so when they left, you hung out some more.
[32:01] Speaker 2: You said, right, fourteenth Browerry helping?
[32:04] Speaker 16: Okay, he said.
[32:05] Speaker 10: He tried calling her later that night, but the call
[32:08] Speaker 10: didn't go through, so he figured she put the number
[32:11] Speaker 10: in wrong.
[32:12] Speaker 11: I really felt bad for it, so I wanted to
[32:14] Speaker 11: call and make sure she made it home safe.
[32:18] Speaker 3: Is Christian really the good Samaritan he's making himself out
[32:22] Speaker 3: to be.
[32:24] Speaker 13: Detective started thinking they weren't getting the whole story, and
[32:27] Speaker 13: when they started pushing back, Christian started to slip up.
[32:32] Speaker 2: Did you ever seen that girl upon that lot? How'd
[32:34] Speaker 2: you get her phone number?
[32:37] Speaker 7: How did I get a number?
[32:39] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[32:40] Speaker 8: Okay?
[32:40] Speaker 16: When I say never, I might have met her a couple.
[32:43] Speaker 12: Of days before that.
[32:45] Speaker 2: Wow, concused, when did.
[32:47] Speaker 14: You get her phone?
[32:48] Speaker 12: I don't know.
[32:50] Speaker 6: They started poking little holes in what he was telling them.
[32:54] Speaker 3: And two detectives it seems his story is about to
[32:57] Speaker 3: fall apart.
[33:00] Speaker 14: Cell phone says the account name it says Chris Piffney,
[33:04] Speaker 14: and it has your name.
[33:07] Speaker 2: For caller ID. So you're at Chris for your call?
[33:10] Speaker 12: Rid foot line of question edition.
[33:16] Speaker 15: They know she was an escort? Could he be Chavon's pimp?
[33:20] Speaker 12: I'm not on the seat right now.
[33:22] Speaker 2: I'm trying to help you guy.
[33:26] Speaker 1: Get ready to dive headfirst into a storm of lies
[33:30] Speaker 1: and deception. Stay tuned for more of the Fatal Attraction podcast.
[33:40] Speaker 3: Detectives investigating the murder of Chavon boone Pe finally zeroed
[33:45] Speaker 3: in on three suspects, Frank Irwine, Christian Daily, and Terence Anderson.
[33:53] Speaker 10: Their phones location data put them all at the ATM
[33:56] Speaker 10: the knight Chavon was murdered, and.
[34:00] Speaker 3: You're interviewing Frank and Christian. Detectives believe that both men
[34:04] Speaker 3: are lying to them.
[34:06] Speaker 13: There's stories about what went down that night, were starting
[34:09] Speaker 13: to contradict each other, and neither of them were taking
[34:13] Speaker 13: responsibility for the crime.
[34:16] Speaker 3: Armed with evidence from his phone data, detectives have just
[34:19] Speaker 3: confronted Christian Daily with the possibility that he may have
[34:23] Speaker 3: been Chavon's pemp.
[34:26] Speaker 8: So you're had.
[34:26] Speaker 12: Chris Techne for your car, writing I want certain things
[34:31] Speaker 12: to pay.
[34:31] Speaker 7: On my car ID it doesn't mean that I live
[34:34] Speaker 7: that way? What is that about the Chris fer just
[34:40] Speaker 7: the name.
[34:41] Speaker 6: He denied having anything to do with that kind of lifestyle.
[34:45] Speaker 15: They're hitting a wall, but detectives not.
[34:47] Speaker 17: They still have one unknown DNA sample from Chavan's body.
[34:52] Speaker 2: You did not have any sexual intercourse with that girl
[34:56] Speaker 2: that night? No, or you want to submit to a
[34:59] Speaker 2: DNA test right now.
[35:00] Speaker 12: Right now.
[35:02] Speaker 3: Detectives also obtained a warrant for Terrence Anderson's DNA and
[35:06] Speaker 3: both are sent to the LEFT for testing.
[35:09] Speaker 10: The remaining semen sample from Chavon's body was not a
[35:13] Speaker 10: match to Christian Daily.
[35:16] Speaker 3: Terrence, however, is a match.
[35:20] Speaker 13: They can now definitively link Frank and Terrence to Chavon,
[35:25] Speaker 13: But does that mean they killed her?
[35:28] Speaker 6: It was within the realm of possibility that both men
[35:31] Speaker 6: had consensual sex with Chavon that night.
[35:34] Speaker 17: Detectives knew they needed proof beyond reasonable doubt because they
[35:38] Speaker 17: couldn't tie either of the men to the scene which
[35:41] Speaker 17: Chavan's body was found.
[35:43] Speaker 10: Frank Irwine and Terrence Anderson's phones were offered several hours
[35:48] Speaker 10: after they left the ATM, and Christian Daily's phone placed
[35:52] Speaker 10: them in downtown Oakland just like you said.
[35:56] Speaker 3: Then detectives catch a break.
[35:59] Speaker 13: They reached out to the garbage company about the band
[36:02] Speaker 13: that Chavon was found in, and the serial number came
[36:06] Speaker 13: back as missing from the same apartment complex that Terence
[36:10] Speaker 13: Anderson lived in, and.
[36:13] Speaker 3: Even though they're not sure which men pull the trigger,
[36:16] Speaker 3: the district attorney decides to move forward with murder charges.
[36:21] Speaker 6: They have DNA evidence, they have surveillance footage, and they
[36:25] Speaker 6: have phone records.
[36:27] Speaker 15: It was more than enough for rest warrants.
[36:30] Speaker 3: The only outlier is Christian Daily.
[36:34] Speaker 17: Not only was his DNA not found on Chavon, his
[36:37] Speaker 17: phone placed him across town at the time of her murder.
[36:41] Speaker 10: But under California's foundy murder rule, since the tactives can
[36:44] Speaker 10: prove that Christian was at least present, if not took
[36:48] Speaker 10: part in robbing Chavin, legally, it would make him culpable
[36:52] Speaker 10: in her death.
[36:54] Speaker 13: The DA backs them up, and all three men were
[36:57] Speaker 13: arrested and charged with Shavon's.
[36:59] Speaker 3: Murder in September twenty thirteen. Frank Irwine and Christian Daily
[37:05] Speaker 3: are the first to stand trial.
[37:08] Speaker 6: Since Frank and Terrence's defenses were essentially blaming each other,
[37:12] Speaker 6: they had to be tried separately.
[37:15] Speaker 3: During their opening statement, prosecutors suggest that after he met
[37:19] Speaker 3: Chaven for their date, Frank Irwine identified her as an
[37:23] Speaker 3: easy target.
[37:26] Speaker 17: He came up with a plan to wop Hark and
[37:28] Speaker 17: recruited Terrace Anderson to help him.
[37:31] Speaker 16: To do it.
[37:32] Speaker 3: On the night of the murder, they believe Frank invited
[37:35] Speaker 3: Chavon out after dinner under the guise of hiring her
[37:39] Speaker 3: as an escort.
[37:41] Speaker 10: After he and Terrence had sex with her, they took
[37:43] Speaker 10: her to an atm and along the way, Christian decided
[37:47] Speaker 10: to join them.
[37:48] Speaker 16: Now hurry up, i'm.
[37:53] Speaker 3: And when they realized Chavn could identify them, they decided
[37:57] Speaker 3: to cover their tracks.
[38:00] Speaker 4: We can't have this happen, so we got to kill her.
[38:04] Speaker 13: They believed that was too much for Christian, and he bailed.
[38:09] Speaker 3: But Frank and Terrence were intent on following through with
[38:12] Speaker 3: their plan.
[38:17] Speaker 6: The men took Chavin down to Terrence's apartment complex, where
[38:20] Speaker 6: they beat her within an inch of her life.
[38:26] Speaker 3: Finally, one of the men delivered the fatal blow.
[38:34] Speaker 4: They shot her.
[38:36] Speaker 17: The bullet passed through her neck and severed her spine.
[38:41] Speaker 10: Only Frank Irwine and Terrence Anderson will ever know who
[38:45] Speaker 10: pulled the trigger.
[38:46] Speaker 3: Neither one of them have ever fessed up. Once she
[38:50] Speaker 3: was dead, Chavon's killers treated her like she was trash
[38:54] Speaker 3: to be thrown away.
[38:56] Speaker 14: To get left like that and found like that.
[39:00] Speaker 8: Damn.
[39:01] Speaker 14: It took her out like garbage.
[39:03] Speaker 4: To hear the whole thing. It's gut wrenching.
[39:11] Speaker 3: The jury is just as disgusted.
[39:15] Speaker 6: They found Frank Irwine and Kristin Day guilty of felony murder,
[39:19] Speaker 6: and both men were sentenced to life in prison.
[39:24] Speaker 13: As soon as they read that verdict, Terrence knew he
[39:27] Speaker 13: was going down for this too, so he ended up
[39:30] Speaker 13: taking a plea deal and got twenty five years to life.
[39:35] Speaker 3: But their punishments fall short of providing the relief Chauvin's
[39:39] Speaker 3: loved ones long for.
[39:41] Speaker 12: You still have life, she doesn't.
[39:45] Speaker 14: I feel that they got lucky. They on ball time.
[39:48] Speaker 14: That's how I really feel like there they breathing is
[39:50] Speaker 14: back there there.
[39:52] Speaker 11: I just wish she was here, mainly for her son.
[39:56] Speaker 11: He still struggles with not having his mom. When we
[40:00] Speaker 11: do the best we can, she.
[40:03] Speaker 14: Most definitely will live on to me and everybody else.
[40:10] Speaker 1: In a world filled with promises, a young mother created
[40:14] Speaker 1: a loving life for herself and her child. However, one
[40:19] Speaker 1: faithful evening shattered her idyllic existence, leading to tragedy. As
[40:25] Speaker 1: darkness lifted, hidden dangers revealed themselves, altering Chavon Boone's life forever.
[40:32] Speaker 1: Chavon's radiant spirit has left an indelible mark on the
[40:36] Speaker 1: hearts of those she cherished, and she will forever be remembered, loved,
[40:42] Speaker 1: and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of
[40:46] Speaker 1: knowing her. Coming up of the next episode of the
[40:50] Speaker 1: Fatal Attraction Podcast, she.
[40:58] Speaker 3: Was a college student with our her whole future mapped out.
