I originally created these stories for my own children on nights when they couldn’t fall asleep. What started as a simple bedtime ritual has grown into a world of imagination designed to help families wind down together at the end of the day. Play an episode for your kids and encourage them to imagine they are the hero of the story — exploring distant planets, training dragons, discovering magic, or traveling through space — all while lying safely in bed with their eyes closed. Each 15–30 minute adventure is filled with science fiction and fantasy themes kids love: spaceships, dinosaurs, dragons, wizards, and whatever wild idea we dream up next. The stories are exciting, creative, and always safe for young listeners. When the adventure ends, the episode gently transitions into calming music to reduce distractions and help your child drift off to sleep — giving you a quiet moment to step out of the room and enjoy some well-earned alone time. Imagination first. Sleep second. Peace and quiet third. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/dad-s-bedtime-stories--6907147/support. ## Transcript

[0:04] Speaker 1: Hey, hello, friends from across the nation and around the world.
[0:08] Speaker 1: I'm Martin, and you are listening to Dad's Bedtime Stories,
[0:13] Speaker 1: the podcast that takes listener ideas and turns them into
[0:17] Speaker 1: bedtime stories. Now, about a year ago, probably I did
[0:22] Speaker 1: a story about a character named Blobby Blobby, the shape
[0:28] Speaker 1: shifting blob, and I think it was about him going
[0:31] Speaker 1: to school, and then I never did another story about
[0:35] Speaker 1: him for some reason. I think partially because I found
[0:37] Speaker 1: out that Blobby is also the name of a character
[0:40] Speaker 1: that a bunch of people in the UK know. It's
[0:43] Speaker 1: obviously a different Blobby, but yeah, if you're from the UK,
[0:47] Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about. Anyways, recently I got
[0:50] Speaker 1: a suggestion for a story in this universe.
[0:53] Speaker 2: And I decided we should probably do it. So let's
[0:56] Speaker 2: check out the suggestion.
[0:58] Speaker 3: Him. I'm ten years old and I have an idea
[1:03] Speaker 3: for a story that you did a long time ago.
[1:07] Speaker 3: I think it was like a shape shifting piece of
[1:09] Speaker 3: like slime or something, and last time you did it
[1:12] Speaker 3: it was like you brought it to school, and I
[1:16] Speaker 3: want to bring that guy back, that slime guy back,
[1:19] Speaker 3: and you take him out to an amusement park and
[1:26] Speaker 3: you have to try not to let the little slime
[1:28] Speaker 3: guy get caught. Thanks. I love your podcast so much.
[1:32] Speaker 2: Thank you Ryan.
[1:33] Speaker 1: That is an excellent suggestion. I love it, and that's
[1:37] Speaker 1: what we're going to do today. Before we get started,
[1:40] Speaker 1: I just want to give a big shout out to
[1:42] Speaker 1: some of my newest Patreon sponsors. Thank you to Eli,
[1:47] Speaker 1: who was nine years old from New Jersey and Megan
[1:50] Speaker 1: for sponsoring the podcast. If you like the podcast, I
[1:54] Speaker 1: really really appreciate your support, and there's lots.
[1:57] Speaker 2: Of ways to do it.
[1:58] Speaker 1: First of all, just by listening supporting the podcast, and
[2:01] Speaker 1: I really appreciate that. If you want to go any
[2:04] Speaker 1: further than that, you can leave me a rating review
[2:08] Speaker 1: wherever it is you're listening, or on every single platform
[2:11] Speaker 1: if you want to, and if you want ad free
[2:14] Speaker 1: episodes and some bonus content, you can head on over
[2:18] Speaker 1: to Patreon. I try to keep that really affordable if
[2:20] Speaker 1: that's something you're into. Motherwise, it's that time again. Time
[2:26] Speaker 1: to get as comfy as you can in that bed,
[2:28] Speaker 1: close your eyes and imagine yourself doing what the kid
[2:33] Speaker 1: in the story does. Now, if you didn't listen to
[2:40] Speaker 1: a Blobby episode before, it's a story about a blue gelatinous,
[2:47] Speaker 1: shape shifting blob who appeared underneath your bed, decided that
[2:51] Speaker 1: you were his mummy, followed you to school, ate garbage
[2:56] Speaker 1: and transformed into pretty much anything, which was pretty fun.
[3:03] Speaker 1: And since that day, Blobby has pretty much refused to
[3:08] Speaker 1: leave your side. Sometimes he sleeps under your bed and
[3:12] Speaker 1: eats the random garbage.
[3:13] Speaker 2: You throw there.
[3:15] Speaker 1: Sometimes he turns into a cat and sleeps on top
[3:18] Speaker 1: of your bed. Sometimes he turns into your pillow, which
[3:23] Speaker 1: you've learned is slightly dangerous because you don't always realize
[3:26] Speaker 1: which pillow is Blobby and you know which one's not
[3:30] Speaker 1: going to move underneath your head. But today is not
[3:34] Speaker 1: a school day. Today you've been given permission to go
[3:41] Speaker 1: to the amusement park. Imagine yourself standing in your bedroom.
[3:49] Speaker 1: You have your water bottle, you have a bit of money,
[3:53] Speaker 1: you have your hat, and you have Blobby, or at
[3:59] Speaker 1: least you did have Blobby. Blobby, you say, looking all
[4:05] Speaker 1: around for him. You looked underneath your bed and nothing.
[4:10] Speaker 1: You check inside your closet and nothing. Then you hear
[4:15] Speaker 1: a tiny noise behind you.
[4:18] Speaker 2: You turn around.
[4:20] Speaker 1: Blobby is sitting on your desk in his normal blue
[4:24] Speaker 1: blob form, only now he's somehow shaped himself into what
[4:28] Speaker 1: looks like a tiny roller coaster, a little blue track
[4:33] Speaker 1: and a tiny little cart moving around it, up and
[4:38] Speaker 1: down and around in a loop. Then Blobby transforms again,
[4:44] Speaker 1: this time into a ferris wheel, then a spinning teacup,
[4:51] Speaker 1: then something that looks sort of like a pirate ship,
[4:54] Speaker 1: swinging back and forth. You want to come to the
[4:58] Speaker 1: amusement park, don't you, Lobby, you say. Blobby melts back
[5:03] Speaker 1: into his normal form, a blue blob. Two little eyes
[5:08] Speaker 1: pop out, and he nods rapidly. Okay, but you can't
[5:13] Speaker 1: exactly walk through the front gate like that. Blobby thinks
[5:18] Speaker 1: about it, or at least you assume he does. It's
[5:22] Speaker 1: sometimes hard to tell what Blobby is thinking, because he's, well,
[5:26] Speaker 1: he's a blob. He suddenly starts to grow and grow
[5:32] Speaker 1: and grow. His little body stretches outward, four huge legs
[5:37] Speaker 1: of pear wings burst from his back, His head grows long,
[5:43] Speaker 1: two horns curl backwards, and within a few seconds, you're
[5:49] Speaker 1: standing in front of a gigantic blue dragon that's taking
[5:53] Speaker 1: up your entire bedroom.
[5:55] Speaker 2: You stare at him.
[5:58] Speaker 1: Ah, well, two things, Blobby. One, yes, I would like
[6:06] Speaker 1: a ride to the amusement park by a giant blue dragon.
[6:10] Speaker 1: That sounds like a great idea. But two, I think
[6:15] Speaker 1: you're gonna have to transform once you're already outside, and
[6:20] Speaker 1: when we get to the amusement park, I think you
[6:23] Speaker 1: need a better disguise. Blobby transforms back into a blob,
[6:29] Speaker 1: nods in agreement, transforms into a hamster, and scurries into
[6:34] Speaker 1: your pocket. You head outside your house, allow Blobby to
[6:40] Speaker 1: scamper out and into an open area, and then you
[6:45] Speaker 1: give them permission to transform. Bobby, this would be a
[6:49] Speaker 1: much better place, you say, as you look around to
[6:53] Speaker 1: make sure nobody's watching, and Blobby begins to grow and
[6:59] Speaker 1: grow and grow. Wings burst from his back again, his
[7:04] Speaker 1: head grows long once more, two huge horns of peer,
[7:10] Speaker 1: and you're again standing in front of a large blue dragon.
[7:16] Speaker 1: Blobby lowers one wing like a ramp. You climb aboard,
[7:22] Speaker 1: and moments later you find yourself clinging to the back
[7:26] Speaker 1: of a gigantic dragon as he soars through the sky.
[7:31] Speaker 1: You fly above roads, above houses, above fields, and eventually
[7:38] Speaker 1: you see it the amusement park. Roller Coasters twist through
[7:44] Speaker 1: the air of ferris wheel, rises high above everything else,
[7:50] Speaker 1: rides spin in circles, and crowds of people move between
[7:54] Speaker 1: them like tiny dots. Blobby. He lets out an excited roar,
[8:00] Speaker 1: not so loud, you yell. He immediately lowers his head
[8:05] Speaker 1: and dives, also not so fast. Blobby changes his color somehow,
[8:14] Speaker 1: becoming almost transparent, and he gently glides down towards a
[8:21] Speaker 1: wooded area beside the barking lot. Somehow nobody sees him
[8:26] Speaker 1: as he lands behind a thick patch of trees. I
[8:31] Speaker 1: see you've been working on camouflage, you say. Blobby transforms
[8:36] Speaker 1: into his normal blue blob form with two large eyes,
[8:41] Speaker 1: and nods excitedly. He transforms into a hamster once again,
[8:46] Speaker 1: and climbs up your leg and into your pocket, and
[8:50] Speaker 1: together you head into the park. The first thing you
[8:56] Speaker 1: notice is the smell pop corn, French fries, cotton candy, caramel,
[9:05] Speaker 1: hot dogs, basically everything that Blobby should absolutely not be eating.
[9:11] Speaker 1: Off the ground, you feel movement in your pocket. No,
[9:17] Speaker 1: you say, and the movement stops. You walk another few
[9:23] Speaker 1: steps and you feel movement again. Blobby. He freezes, you,
[9:29] Speaker 1: look down and two eyes slowly disappear back inside your pocket.
[9:37] Speaker 1: You are not eating amusement park garbage, Blobby, remains completely still.
[9:45] Speaker 1: You continue walking, and then you notice a single French
[9:50] Speaker 1: fry disappear underneath a nearby bench. You stop. You look
[9:56] Speaker 1: down at your pocket and it's empty. Blobby, a tiny
[10:03] Speaker 1: blue puddle slides back towards you. Blobby pops back up,
[10:08] Speaker 1: looking extremely pleased with himself. You sigh, this is going
[10:14] Speaker 1: to be a long day. Before you go on any rides,
[10:19] Speaker 1: you decide to try some of the carnival games. You
[10:23] Speaker 1: come across one where you have to throw three balls
[10:27] Speaker 1: at a stack of bottles, knock them all down, and
[10:31] Speaker 1: you win a stuffed animal. You decide that that is
[10:35] Speaker 1: in fact something that you want, and so you pay
[10:38] Speaker 1: for three throws. The carnival worker hands you the first ball.
[10:44] Speaker 1: You take careful aim throw. The ball hits one bottle.
[10:49] Speaker 1: The bottle wiggles and then stays exactly where it is
[10:55] Speaker 1: and looks a lot easier than it is in reality.
[11:00] Speaker 1: The second ball, you throw it as hard as you can,
[11:04] Speaker 1: and this one misses the balls completely and bounces off
[11:07] Speaker 1: the back wall. Oh man. You look at your final
[11:12] Speaker 1: ball and notice it has two little eyes. Blobby. The
[11:19] Speaker 1: eyes blink, but you decide he might beyond to something.
[11:26] Speaker 1: You sigh and throw the ball. At first, it looks
[11:31] Speaker 1: like a completely normal throw. Then halfway through the air,
[11:36] Speaker 1: the ball curves just slightly and stretches itself a little
[11:42] Speaker 1: bit wider, or at least you're pretty sure it does.
[11:47] Speaker 1: It slams directly into the middle of the bottles, and
[11:51] Speaker 1: every single bottle flies off the platform. The carnival worker
[11:58] Speaker 1: stares at them then, and you then at the ball
[12:03] Speaker 1: that's now rolled underneath the counter. A nice throw, kid,
[12:09] Speaker 1: uh thanks. A second later, Blobby crawls up the back
[12:15] Speaker 1: of your leg in hamster form and disappears into your
[12:19] Speaker 1: pocket once again. The worker hands you a large blue
[12:24] Speaker 1: stuffed bear.
[12:26] Speaker 2: Perfect. You hug it against your chest.
[12:30] Speaker 1: Okay, Blobby, we won, but technically I think that might
[12:35] Speaker 1: count as cheating. Blobby looks up at you out of
[12:39] Speaker 1: your pocket with a look that you're absolutely sure means
[12:44] Speaker 1: all carnival games are cheating. Anyways, You just shrug your
[12:48] Speaker 1: shoulders and agree. You start walking again, and once again,
[12:53] Speaker 1: Blobby climbs out of your pocket and lands on the ground.
[12:58] Speaker 1: He points towards a roller coaster. Then he transforms into
[13:04] Speaker 1: a miniature roller coaster. A tiny card zips up and
[13:08] Speaker 1: back and then he changes into a ferris wheel. You
[13:13] Speaker 1: quickly move over towards him and crouch down.
[13:16] Speaker 2: Blobby.
[13:17] Speaker 1: People are going to see you, you say, but okay,
[13:21] Speaker 1: you want to go on the rides. I don't know
[13:26] Speaker 1: if that's gonna work, though, you'd have to stay in
[13:30] Speaker 1: my pocket or something. People would probably notice a blue
[13:35] Speaker 1: blob sitting beside me on a roller coaster. Blobby looks
[13:40] Speaker 1: at you, then looks at the stuffed bear in your arms,
[13:45] Speaker 1: then back at you. His body shifts, fur appears, his
[13:53] Speaker 1: arms and legs reshape, and within seconds there are two
[13:59] Speaker 1: absolutely identical stuffed blue bears sitting in front of you.
[14:04] Speaker 2: You stare at him.
[14:07] Speaker 1: All right, I can't blame you. That is that's an
[14:09] Speaker 1: amazing idea. You look around and find a large tree
[14:13] Speaker 1: away from the main walkway. You carefully hide the real
[14:17] Speaker 1: stuffed animal behind it. You can pick it up later
[14:21] Speaker 1: if you feel like it. Then you pick up Blobby. Somehow,
[14:27] Speaker 1: he feels exactly like a stuffed bear, soft, fluffy, completely normal,
[14:34] Speaker 1: other than his eyes, of course, which look towards you. Okay,
[14:39] Speaker 1: remember if anyone's looking, you're just a stuffed animal. Blobby's
[14:45] Speaker 1: eyes disappear back into plastic looking eyes. His body goes
[14:51] Speaker 1: limp perfect. Your first ride is the roller coaster. You
[14:58] Speaker 1: carry Blobby through the lung and nobody notices anything. A
[15:02] Speaker 1: lot of people are carrying stuffed animals around. The ride
[15:07] Speaker 1: operator looks at the stuffed bear. Hugh, are you sure
[15:11] Speaker 1: you want to hold on to that?
[15:13] Speaker 2: Uh? Yeah, I am, you answer, all right, hold on tight.
[15:18] Speaker 1: If you lose it, I'm not getting it for you.
[15:22] Speaker 1: You sit down and Blobby sits on your lap. The
[15:26] Speaker 1: safety bar comes down and the roller coaster begins climbing
[15:32] Speaker 1: the first hill. Click click, click click. You glance around
[15:38] Speaker 1: and luckily nobody's looking. Two little eyes reappear on Blobby's face,
[15:45] Speaker 1: then a mouth. He looks over the edge. His eyes
[15:50] Speaker 1: become enormous. And you're the one who wanted to do this,
[15:53] Speaker 1: you say. The coaster reaches the top. For half a second,
[15:59] Speaker 1: everything is quick wat then you drop, you scream. Blobby
[16:06] Speaker 1: throws both stuffed arms up into the air. They stretch
[16:11] Speaker 1: about three feet longer than they should Blobby he quickly
[16:17] Speaker 1: shrinks them again. The coaster twists around a corner and
[16:21] Speaker 1: Blobby's mouth opens into a giant smile. He's having the
[16:26] Speaker 1: time of his life.
[16:28] Speaker 2: But as soon as.
[16:29] Speaker 1: The coaster pulls back to the station, you whisper Stuffy, Stuffy,
[16:36] Speaker 1: Blobby instantly freezes, and the ride operator walks past nothing
[16:42] Speaker 1: but an ordinary stuffed bear. The next ride spins in circles.
[16:49] Speaker 1: Blobby loves that one too, at least for the first
[16:52] Speaker 1: thirty seconds. When the ride stops, you carry him away,
[16:58] Speaker 1: his two eyes appear and spin in opposite directions.
[17:04] Speaker 2: You okay.
[17:06] Speaker 1: Blobby slowly melts into your arms just a little, and
[17:10] Speaker 1: then pulls himself back together and resumes stuffed animal form.
[17:16] Speaker 1: I'll take that as a maybe feeling a bit dizzy,
[17:19] Speaker 1: are you? You go on the ferris wheel next, Blobby
[17:24] Speaker 1: comes alive again. As soon as your car rises into
[17:28] Speaker 1: the air, he presses his stuffed face against the side
[17:32] Speaker 1: and looks down at all the tiny people below. For
[17:36] Speaker 1: a little while, neither of you says anything. You just
[17:41] Speaker 1: look out over the park together, the roller coasters, the lights,
[17:47] Speaker 1: the people, the games. Then Blobby notices something, a half
[17:54] Speaker 1: eaten piece of cotton candy sitting on the floor of
[17:57] Speaker 1: the ferris wheel car. No, you say, Blobby looks at
[18:02] Speaker 1: you sadly, then at the cotton candy. No you say,
[18:10] Speaker 1: a tiny blue tentacle reaches out Blobby. The tentacle slowly retracts.
[18:18] Speaker 1: You look away for one second, and when you look back,
[18:22] Speaker 1: the cotton candy is gone, and Blobby is sitting perfectly still.
[18:28] Speaker 1: You are unbelievably bad at listening, you say. As the
[18:34] Speaker 1: day goes on, Blobby continues his amusement park buffet popcorn
[18:42] Speaker 1: under a bench, gone, dropped, gummy candy gone, half a
[18:48] Speaker 1: pretzel someone abandoned on a table.
[18:51] Speaker 2: Gone.
[18:52] Speaker 1: At one point you catch him stretching a tiny blue
[18:56] Speaker 1: arm six feet underneath a bench to grab a nacho.
[19:00] Speaker 1: Blobby the arm snaps back, Unfortunately, this time someone else notices.
[19:08] Speaker 1: An amusement park employee standing near by stops. She looks
[19:14] Speaker 1: directly at you, then at the stuffed bear.
[19:18] Speaker 2: Augh.
[19:19] Speaker 1: Did that stuffed animal just move? You freeze? Blobby freezes no,
[19:28] Speaker 1: you say. The employee narrows her eyes. I could have
[19:34] Speaker 1: sworn I saw something blue move. She starts walking toward you.
[19:43] Speaker 1: You look at Blobby, and Blobby looks at you with
[19:46] Speaker 1: his two little eyes, otherwise staying as still as possible.
[19:51] Speaker 1: This is not good. You need a distraction. You point
[19:56] Speaker 1: behind the employee. Oh, somebody dropped a whole tray of
[20:02] Speaker 1: fries the employee. He turns to look, and you begin
[20:07] Speaker 1: to run as quickly as you can. You run past
[20:12] Speaker 1: the carnival games, past the rides and duck out, and
[20:17] Speaker 1: behind the carnival itself to a slightly more secluded area.
[20:23] Speaker 1: You take a break and start to catch your breath.
[20:27] Speaker 1: You look around to see if the employee's following, and
[20:31] Speaker 1: luckily she isn't. And that's when three older kids step
[20:37] Speaker 1: in front of you. One of them looks at Blobby.
[20:42] Speaker 1: Nice teddy bear, he says. You stand up straight and
[20:47] Speaker 1: try to walk away. The kid steps in front of you.
[20:52] Speaker 1: Can I see it? No, you say. He reaches out
[20:58] Speaker 1: and grabs Blobby any anyways, Come on, give them back.
[21:04] Speaker 1: The kids laugh, one tosses Blobby to another, then another,
[21:11] Speaker 1: all the while Blobby stays completely still at first. Come on,
[21:18] Speaker 1: give them back, you say. One of the kids holds
[21:22] Speaker 1: Blobby above his head.
[21:24] Speaker 2: What are you gonna do about it?
[21:27] Speaker 1: Two little eves appear on Blobby's face. The kid sees
[21:32] Speaker 1: them and stop smiling.
[21:35] Speaker 2: Uh.
[21:37] Speaker 1: Then Blobby's head turns very slowly. The kid screams and
[21:44] Speaker 1: drops them. Blobby lands on the ground and then begins
[21:50] Speaker 1: to grow, first into a dog sized creature, then a
[21:57] Speaker 1: bear sized creature, then larger. His fluffy arms become gigantic,
[22:05] Speaker 1: His mouth stretches open, huge teeth appier. Two horns rise
[22:11] Speaker 1: from his head, and the kids start to back away.
[22:16] Speaker 2: What is that thing?
[22:19] Speaker 1: Blobby grows even larger and then lets out an enormous girl.
[22:27] Speaker 1: The three bullies scream, and one of them looks down,
[22:33] Speaker 1: Oh no, A wet patch spreads across the front of
[22:38] Speaker 1: his shorts. Another kid looks down at his own pants,
[22:42] Speaker 1: and then at the third kid. All three of them
[22:47] Speaker 1: have peed their pants. For about half a second, nobody moves,
[22:54] Speaker 1: and then all three of them scream and run away.
[22:59] Speaker 1: Blobby immediately shrinks smaller and smaller, until once again he's
[23:05] Speaker 1: nothing more than an innocent stuffed bear sitting on the ground.
[23:09] Speaker 1: You pick him up. H good job, you say, But
[23:15] Speaker 1: I think things are getting a little too crazy here.
[23:19] Speaker 1: It's probably time that we should go. By now, the
[23:24] Speaker 1: sun is starting to go down and the rides glow
[23:28] Speaker 1: with colored lights. The Fairess wheel shines above the park.
[23:35] Speaker 1: You carry the animal back over behind the grove of
[23:39] Speaker 1: trees where you landed in the first place. Blobby melts
[23:44] Speaker 1: into his normal gelatinous form, streams down onto the ground,
[23:49] Speaker 1: and once again begins to grow into a large blue dragon.
[23:56] Speaker 1: He lowers his wing, You climb a b and he
[24:01] Speaker 1: begins to run. He jumps into the air, spreads his
[24:05] Speaker 1: wings and flaps them harder and harder. You fly higher
[24:12] Speaker 1: and higher and higher, up above the amusement park, the
[24:18] Speaker 1: glowing roller coasters and ferris wheel. Blobby takes a few
[24:24] Speaker 1: trips around the place. Luckily, at this point nobody could
[24:29] Speaker 1: see him anyways, and then he heads straight back towards
[24:34] Speaker 1: your home, over streets and forests and houses and trees
[24:41] Speaker 1: until you start to see some familiar ground, your own neighborhood.
[24:48] Speaker 1: Blobby comes down for a gentle landing. You climb off,
[24:54] Speaker 1: and almost immediately he shrinks down and transforms back into
[24:59] Speaker 1: a little blue hand. As he scampers over, climbs up
[25:03] Speaker 1: your leg and into your pocket. You head inside your house,
[25:09] Speaker 1: go directly to your room, where well Blobby crawls out,
[25:15] Speaker 1: transforms into his normal blob form, and heads under the bed.
[25:22] Speaker 1: He's always linked it under there for some reason. You,
[25:26] Speaker 1: on the other hand, are feeling pretty tired, so you
[25:31] Speaker 1: crawl into your bed. You lay down on your pillow,
[25:36] Speaker 1: pull the covers up to your chin, and close your eyes.
[25:42] Speaker 1: With each breath, you release a little bit of tension
[25:46] Speaker 1: from your muscles. You allow your arms to relax, You
[25:53] Speaker 1: let your legs melt into the bed. You let go
[25:59] Speaker 1: of any tension, and your shoulders, your neck, and even
[26:04] Speaker 1: your face. And with each breath you sink down a
[26:09] Speaker 1: little bit deeper. The more you breathe, the deeper you sink,
[26:16] Speaker 1: and the deeper you sink, the better you feel, until
[26:21] Speaker 1: slowly you find yourself wandering off to thoughts of new
[26:28] Speaker 1: dreams and new adventures to come. Good Night everyone, m.
