[0:01] Speaker 1: And that's what you really missed with Jenna.
[0:04] Speaker 2: And Kevin and iHeartRadio podcast.
[0:09] Speaker 1: Welcome to you, and that's what you were in this podcast.
[0:12] Speaker 1: Hi Kevin, Hi Jenna. This today is a very exciting
[0:18] Speaker 1: episode for me and also very stressful. I feel like
[0:24] Speaker 1: I'm letterboxing my musicals of all time and I feel stressed.
[0:30] Speaker 1: This is I thought we would talk about our favorite
[0:32] Speaker 1: musicals of all time. I know that you are new
[0:37] Speaker 1: to this world.
[0:38] Speaker 2: Well it's not fair.
[0:40] Speaker 1: I know it's not but we can talk about it
[0:42] Speaker 1: because I think our lists are going to be very different.
[0:44] Speaker 2: And this is only things we've seen on stage, no
[0:47] Speaker 2: musical movies.
[0:48] Speaker 1: Exactly, just on stage. We've been talking about musicals lately
[0:54] Speaker 1: and I just it brought me so much joy, and
[0:58] Speaker 1: I thought we should talk about favorite musicals of time,
[1:00] Speaker 1: but I just I can't. I'm having trouble because I
[1:03] Speaker 1: can't pick. I picked a lot.
[1:07] Speaker 2: I would like to say that when we were discussing
[1:10] Speaker 2: this episode with our wonderful producer Sam, we were like, Okay,
[1:15] Speaker 2: we'll do our top three to five. I log into
[1:20] Speaker 2: our Google doc. Jenna has her top twenty two, so like,
[1:30] Speaker 2: that is not fair.
[1:32] Speaker 1: I was just going through the list of like, oh
[1:34] Speaker 1: and this one and this one and this one. I
[1:35] Speaker 1: figured we could like break them down, maybe you could
[1:37] Speaker 1: help me get to my top five, because I really
[1:40] Speaker 1: am having a really hard time and I don't know
[1:42] Speaker 1: how to like judge that right, Like I don't know
[1:44] Speaker 1: how to figure out there's pieces of each one and
[1:47] Speaker 1: times I've seen it, memories, casts, like different places, it
[1:51] Speaker 1: just it all blends together. So I'm a little stressed,
[1:53] Speaker 1: but I'm excited.
[1:54] Speaker 2: I did have some questions for you, okay, because I
[1:59] Speaker 2: also wanted to ask you, like what I guess it's
[2:05] Speaker 2: just what you said just now, but like what qualify
[2:08] Speaker 2: How do you qualify something as your favorite? Because for me,
[2:12] Speaker 2: I've obviously seen a lot less shows than you. Yeah, yeah,
[2:15] Speaker 2: but there are there are cast recordings, yes, or songs
[2:19] Speaker 2: that I will sing a lot, but that doesn't necessarily
[2:23] Speaker 2: mean music musical. And there's shows that I don't really
[2:29] Speaker 2: know any of the music. I've never even gone to
[2:31] Speaker 2: listen to the score, like the cast recording, but I
[2:35] Speaker 2: loved the show.
[2:38] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's fair, I think when I was writing down,
[2:42] Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of musicals live, like I've seen
[2:44] Speaker 1: a lot on Broadway. I think when I when I'm
[2:48] Speaker 1: thinking about my favorites, it's something that it's a mixture
[2:51] Speaker 1: of both. It's that I saw it live and it
[2:54] Speaker 1: was it struck a specific chord in my heart that
[2:57] Speaker 1: was like I loved this show, whether it was the book,
[3:00] Speaker 1: whether it was the music, whether it was the cast,
[3:03] Speaker 1: you know whatever. And then it was like, afterwards, am
[3:07] Speaker 1: I listening to this cast recording? And if the answer
[3:10] Speaker 1: is yes, that it constitutes as a favorite for me, right,
[3:16] Speaker 1: And then I kind of went down the whole of
[3:18] Speaker 1: like for this particular episode of like which ones could
[3:22] Speaker 1: I like really listen to most of this album? Or
[3:27] Speaker 1: do I love most of this album? Do do I
[3:30] Speaker 1: understand most of the album or the recording? Because there's
[3:33] Speaker 1: some that I love that I'm like, yeah, it's a
[3:36] Speaker 1: great musical. I love it in theory, it's widely you
[3:39] Speaker 1: know loved, but like, could I sit through it a
[3:41] Speaker 1: hundred times? Probably? Not Like Companies on my list, I
[3:45] Speaker 1: love Company. I think there's specific songs I lovet from Company.
[3:49] Speaker 1: I think I like it in pieces, but I don't
[3:51] Speaker 1: know that it's like number in my top five. And
[3:54] Speaker 1: it's also sometime so like my favorite componer, so like,
[3:57] Speaker 1: I just you know, I think that's where I'm coming
[4:00] Speaker 1: from in terms of like favorite is all the pieces combined,
[4:06] Speaker 1: which one's rise to the top.
[4:08] Speaker 2: Which ones are checking the most boxes?
[4:10] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, exactly, I think. Okay, so I'm taking company
[4:14] Speaker 1: off my list. Okay, I don't even know where to begin.
[4:20] Speaker 1: Should we just like talk? Should we just like list
[4:23] Speaker 1: them out and like list the musicals and then like
[4:25] Speaker 1: talk through them.
[4:26] Speaker 2: Well, so I have spelling be on mine.
[4:29] Speaker 1: So I actually forgot to spelling beyond there.
[4:32] Speaker 2: I've never seen it. I've only been in it.
[4:36] Speaker 1: I will tell you though, you know the musical right like,
[4:39] Speaker 1: and yes it does. And I saw a spelling Bee
[4:43] Speaker 1: and I felt the same way that I saw it
[4:46] Speaker 1: and would be in it. I loved it, Like I
[4:48] Speaker 1: think I've been in musicals where I'm like, well this
[4:50] Speaker 1: is fine, you know, but I think it counts. I
[4:52] Speaker 1: think it counts. Oh spelling okay, Okay, I keep thinking
[4:59] Speaker 1: of and I'm like, oh my god, oh yeah.
[5:01] Speaker 2: Once on this Island. I also started to make like
[5:04] Speaker 2: a little list of shows that I'd really like to see.
[5:07] Speaker 1: Oh well, let's talk about those words.
[5:09] Speaker 2: Okay, So maybe they're like honorable mentions of the Honorable
[5:13] Speaker 2: Mentions or TVD.
[5:15] Speaker 1: And have you heard of these musicals? Have you heard
[5:17] Speaker 1: music from these musicals and you just want to see them?
[5:20] Speaker 1: Or like what what? Yeah?
[5:22] Speaker 2: All the above. So I would like to see a
[5:24] Speaker 2: chorus line, Yes, definitely, I feel like I will love
[5:28] Speaker 2: a chorus line. I obviously know some songs from it.
[5:31] Speaker 2: I've seen some numbers. I've just never seen the full thing.
[5:35] Speaker 1: It's so simple yet's so effective.
[5:37] Speaker 2: Of course, I am very excited. I've never seen Rocky
[5:41] Speaker 2: Horror on stage.
[5:42] Speaker 1: I'm so jealous, You're Horror.
[5:44] Speaker 2: This new cast is absurd in Sam Pinkleton's directing, and
[5:48] Speaker 2: so I really want to see that. I've never seen
[5:50] Speaker 2: Kinky Boots.
[5:52] Speaker 1: Great musical.
[5:53] Speaker 2: I feel like I will love it God Sweeney Todd.
[5:58] Speaker 2: We obviously recently want the.
[6:00] Speaker 1: Movie better on stage.
[6:02] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and I would really like to see it
[6:04] Speaker 2: because I've heard wonderful things about it. I'm sure I'm
[6:10] Speaker 2: going to add more things to this as we talked
[6:11] Speaker 2: about this today. Yeah, yeah, but Sunday in the Park
[6:15] Speaker 2: with George, Are.
[6:16] Speaker 1: You gonna go to London and see it? Oh?
[6:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, probably, I'll probably have to do that. But even
[6:21] Speaker 2: before that was even a thing. Austin became sort of
[6:24] Speaker 2: obsessed with it last year yep, and started showing it
[6:29] Speaker 2: to me. Okay, great, I had no idea so that. Yeah,
[6:32] Speaker 2: I'm all about it. That's where I'm at right now.
[6:36] Speaker 1: Okay, I love this. Sunday in the Park with George
[6:40] Speaker 1: is on my list as well. Is one of my favorites.
[6:43] Speaker 2: Okay, you have several some times.
[6:47] Speaker 1: Yeah, this is the thing. It's a theme.
[6:49] Speaker 2: So do you think there are multiple some times in
[6:52] Speaker 2: your top five?
[6:56] Speaker 1: If I had to pick some time for one of
[7:03] Speaker 1: my top five, it would be Into the Woods.
[7:07] Speaker 2: It could be more than one.
[7:08] Speaker 1: I don't know that he would make it more than once.
[7:12] Speaker 2: Okay. Into the Woods is also my top five.
[7:15] Speaker 1: Okay, great, we love that. Yeah, I think I think
[7:20] Speaker 1: it would only be once. Okay, I think it would
[7:24] Speaker 1: only be once. I think we took company off. I
[7:26] Speaker 1: think Someday in the Park I love also love pieces.
[7:29] Speaker 1: I like seeing it for the cast because they bring
[7:33] Speaker 1: such different things to it. Obviously, the revival of Jake
[7:35] Speaker 1: Jylln Hall was special. I think the cast is the
[7:38] Speaker 1: star of this show. The show is beautiful. It's really insane.
[7:43] Speaker 1: But I don't like if we're going by my meter
[7:47] Speaker 1: of like listening to the whole album and the whole thing,
[7:49] Speaker 1: I think it comes off. I think Sunday the part
[7:51] Speaker 1: comes off.
[8:00] Speaker 2: Another question for you, Okay, shows you've been in, Oh
[8:03] Speaker 2: my god, Okay, Spring Awakening, yep, King and I.
[8:06] Speaker 1: Yep, Waitress, They're all on my list. Oh yes, Har's
[8:09] Speaker 1: on my list too.
[8:10] Speaker 2: Are any of those in your top five?
[8:12] Speaker 1: Yes? I think so. The King and I is hard
[8:16] Speaker 1: because it's so attached to my experience as a kid.
[8:21] Speaker 1: But I went back and saw the revival Ellenkin Center
[8:24] Speaker 1: with Donna Murphy. We went and saw it and we
[8:29] Speaker 1: looked at each other and we were like, wow, Kelly O'Hara,
[8:33] Speaker 1: is this is Anna? It was excellent And we looked
[8:36] Speaker 1: at each other and we were like, wow, that book
[8:39] Speaker 1: is still so good, and that music, like Rogers and Hammerstein,
[8:45] Speaker 1: one of is the best pieces. So I think The
[8:48] Speaker 1: King and I would be up there.
[8:50] Speaker 2: Okay, above Spring Awakening.
[8:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going with it for now. We're going with
[8:55] Speaker 1: it for now. Right, We're just we're talking through us
[8:58] Speaker 1: springing it. Spring Awakening. I saw that musical way before
[9:02] Speaker 1: I got cast in it. I had no intention of
[9:05] Speaker 1: being cast in it. I had no dreams of being
[9:07] Speaker 1: cast in it. I never thought I would be casting it.
[9:10] Speaker 1: I saw it and was like, this is life changing,
[9:12] Speaker 1: life changing. You were the right age, yes for it
[9:18] Speaker 1: to have that impact. I feel like, yes, And it
[9:20] Speaker 1: was in like it's prime right, it had just won
[9:23] Speaker 1: the Tony. If not, maybe I saw it just before
[9:26] Speaker 1: it won the Tony. So I think that one also
[9:29] Speaker 1: is in my top like, go back and listen to
[9:31] Speaker 1: that recording. It's unreal. It's so good, and it's like
[9:38] Speaker 1: it just really changed Broadway, I think, and like what
[9:43] Speaker 1: we were, what was being made, and then also like
[9:47] Speaker 1: Duncan Cheek being the composer.
[9:51] Speaker 2: I just saw a video on my timeline today on
[9:55] Speaker 2: TikTok of one of the first workshops from nineteen ninety nine.
[9:59] Speaker 2: Oh my god, and they're like singing through it. It's
[10:01] Speaker 2: so wild.
[10:04] Speaker 1: I Waitress, I think when I saw that before I
[10:09] Speaker 1: was even even a thought to be cast in that
[10:12] Speaker 1: one as well. I just didn't never seen Jesse Mueller before.
[10:17] Speaker 1: I didn't know who Jesse Mueller was and was like,
[10:19] Speaker 1: who is that?
[10:20] Speaker 2: What a freak of name goddess.
[10:22] Speaker 1: Yeah, And so I think Waitress is an incredible show.
[10:29] Speaker 1: I think Waitress has the best music, big Sarah Brols fan.
[10:37] Speaker 1: Is it in my top five? I don't know, Maybe
[10:40] Speaker 1: top ten?
[10:41] Speaker 2: I feel the same way. Okay, it's on my list.
[10:43] Speaker 2: I wouldn't say it's top ten, but I do think
[10:47] Speaker 2: she used to be mine as top five greatest songs
[10:50] Speaker 2: ever written.
[10:51] Speaker 1: Totally totally agreed, agreed, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay, I've
[10:57] Speaker 1: we're on the same Patriot.
[10:58] Speaker 2: What about Hair?
[11:00] Speaker 1: Oh God, what a musical. I think my experience Trump's
[11:07] Speaker 1: the actual musical for me, But I think the musical
[11:11] Speaker 1: it was also groundbreaking. It's so good that all of
[11:18] Speaker 1: is so good. I saw it in the park. I
[11:24] Speaker 1: saw it on Broadway because I think they moved it.
[11:27] Speaker 1: I think they took it from the park and then
[11:28] Speaker 1: they moved it. Yeah. I love Hair. There's something about
[11:37] Speaker 1: that music that really gets you. But I don't maybe
[11:41] Speaker 1: not in my top You saw it right with you? Yeah,
[11:46] Speaker 1: that was when you saw it was when we were
[11:48] Speaker 1: me and.
[11:49] Speaker 2: I've also seen a production at Columbia University.
[11:53] Speaker 1: You did, Oh my gosh. Okay, what else is in
[11:56] Speaker 1: your top five? God?
[11:59] Speaker 2: I don't know. So my list is a lot shorter
[12:03] Speaker 2: than yours. Okay, Waitresses on there. Yeah, Wicked is on there.
[12:11] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's online too. I mean, what a perfect musical.
[12:15] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's and it's I hate to say magical,
[12:20] Speaker 2: but it is sort of like classic, like what you
[12:25] Speaker 2: want from a Broadway production, totally like mega musical mega musical.
[12:31] Speaker 2: Music is incredible. Obviously, the story is great, there's actual magic.
[12:37] Speaker 2: It's like things that just make you have to like
[12:42] Speaker 2: gasp at how people they look on stage.
[12:44] Speaker 1: Total.
[12:48] Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know if it's top five though Wicked
[12:52] Speaker 2: really no, I don't know. I don't know because here's
[12:56] Speaker 2: the thing. I have a lot of I feel like
[12:59] Speaker 2: I have, Oh I was gonna have a lot of comedies,
[13:02] Speaker 2: but I don't. I have Spelling Bee Into the Woods
[13:07] Speaker 2: and Titanique. Oh my god, titan is not in my
[13:11] Speaker 2: top five. I just wanted to put it on there because, yeah, notable.
[13:15] Speaker 2: I think it's notable. Yes, I think it is so special.
[13:21] Speaker 2: It is so funny and stupid in all the right ways.
[13:29] Speaker 2: I have Death Becomes Her on here, as well.
[13:32] Speaker 1: Is that in top five?
[13:34] Speaker 2: It could be? It could be. I think Death Becomes
[13:37] Speaker 2: Her is a perfect show.
[13:38] Speaker 1: Interesting, I haven't heard anything about it. Megan Megan Hilty
[13:44] Speaker 1: is I heard was a queen in it.
[13:46] Speaker 2: Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard were unbelievable. The amount of
[13:58] Speaker 2: energy that must take to do that show.
[14:01] Speaker 1: They are that's why they're all like in getting injured
[14:05] Speaker 1: and there's like replacements left and right.
[14:07] Speaker 2: It's like, oh yeah, it's nuts, but it is. It
[14:11] Speaker 2: is so funny. It is such a spectacle like Wicked
[14:15] Speaker 2: on stage that it's such a great use of costumes
[14:19] Speaker 2: and set design, like unbelievable.
[14:22] Speaker 1: And do you listen to the recording? Yes, I need
[14:25] Speaker 1: to listen to that recording. I also okay, So here's
[14:28] Speaker 1: like the top few that I had. I have a
[14:30] Speaker 1: really long list. I'm just going to read it to you,
[14:33] Speaker 1: but here's the few that it hit the top for
[14:35] Speaker 1: me that take me back and really check all those boxes.
[14:40] Speaker 1: A M saw it with Heather Headley and Ana Pascal,
[14:47] Speaker 1: and then Mission I saw with Leya Slanga. It was
[14:52] Speaker 1: life changing for me. I also auditioned for a second
[14:55] Speaker 1: when I was really really little. Lay Miss isn't the
[14:58] Speaker 1: top for me. It's also Clubs John Berg It's I
[15:01] Speaker 1: think it's a perfect musical. It's really long, but I
[15:05] Speaker 1: love it. And last five years also is in my
[15:08] Speaker 1: top I know, and it's going to be at the Bowl,
[15:13] Speaker 1: then Plattin and Rachel Ziegler, and I'm like, am I
[15:15] Speaker 1: going I think.
[15:16] Speaker 2: I need to Oh are they doing it at the Bowl? Yeah?
[15:19] Speaker 1: Like the concert j Brown, Yeah, they're doing it both
[15:23] Speaker 1: at the Bull and as a concert in London and
[15:25] Speaker 1: reent Rent is definitely in my top five. Rent was
[15:29] Speaker 1: just also a game changer for me. A few of
[15:32] Speaker 1: the others that I had were Hamilton obviously, Dear e
[15:37] Speaker 1: Van Hansen, You're a good Man, Charlie Brown excellent christ
[15:43] Speaker 1: and Channa with Anthony Rap Come from Away ninety minute,
[15:49] Speaker 1: perfect musical.
[15:50] Speaker 2: I've only listened to that recently, No so good. I
[15:56] Speaker 2: driving in the car and like October or something and
[16:00] Speaker 2: played it from Springs.
[16:02] Speaker 1: And it's how are you kidding? Moving Out is also
[16:07] Speaker 1: one something that I listened to on repeat. It's Billy Joel.
[16:10] Speaker 1: Michael Kavanaugh's voice is really incredible, and it was dance.
[16:13] Speaker 1: It's like it's a musical Broadbay musical where Michael Kavanaugh
[16:17] Speaker 1: sits in the rafters with a piano, sings his face off,
[16:20] Speaker 1: and it's all these incredible dancers and it's just told
[16:25] Speaker 1: by Dance the whole story, it's a plus plus. Wow.
[16:31] Speaker 1: Jersey Boys downline young, so good, Frankie Valley. In the
[16:35] Speaker 1: four seasons they tell this story kind of like from
[16:38] Speaker 1: past to present, they go back. It's I actually never
[16:42] Speaker 1: saw Jersey Boys, but I listened to it on repeat
[16:45] Speaker 1: for so many years. Pip and I had in there.
[16:49] Speaker 1: I think it's a great musical. I don't think it's
[16:52] Speaker 1: in my top ten, so let's just take that off. Also,
[16:55] Speaker 1: Light in the Piazza, which Matthew morrisons in. Aaron Lazar
[16:59] Speaker 1: was so in it. Kelly O'Hara and Victoria Clark. I
[17:04] Speaker 1: saw it at Lincoln Center. It's it's operatic. It's not
[17:09] Speaker 1: everybody's jam, it's not modern, but it is absolutely beautiful,
[17:14] Speaker 1: absolutely gorgeous. The costumes, the cast, and then the singing
[17:20] Speaker 1: is just out of this world. The two of them together,
[17:24] Speaker 1: Victoria Clark and Kelly O'Hair are just what a what
[17:29] Speaker 1: a cast.
[17:30] Speaker 2: I have a confession about Victoria Clark. Okay, she came
[17:35] Speaker 2: to see Spelling Bee rehearsal before the Kennedy Center, like
[17:39] Speaker 2: you know, in the rehearsal room, like she came to
[17:42] Speaker 2: watch that. I had no idea who she was, and
[17:48] Speaker 2: everyone was like, oh my god, Victoria Clark's here.
[17:50] Speaker 1: I'm like Royalty.
[17:51] Speaker 2: I don't know who she is, but she's very nice.
[17:53] Speaker 1: Royalty. Yeah, and spelling Bee is on my list. I
[17:57] Speaker 1: saw the original cast the Circle in the Square, I
[17:59] Speaker 1: saw Jesse, I would say, I saw everybody, Silly, Quina Bulger.
[18:02] Speaker 1: It was just it was perfect. It's perfect. It's always
[18:05] Speaker 1: been a dream of mind to be in that musical.
[18:08] Speaker 2: You really need to be Jenna, you'd crush it.
[18:12] Speaker 1: Anyway. Those are my top.
[18:22] Speaker 2: Okay, I have color purple on here.
[18:24] Speaker 1: Okay, I said very well because that is.
[18:28] Speaker 2: Probably what I sing more than anything, which I probably
[18:34] Speaker 2: shouldn't say publicly. But I love that music.
[18:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, like it.
[18:47] Speaker 2: The amount of times I've blown out my voice singing that,
[18:50] Speaker 2: trying attempting to sing it, I don't ever, you know,
[18:53] Speaker 2: accomplish it. I've never even seen the movie, like the
[18:57] Speaker 2: original movie, So that's what I'm conflicted. I don't know
[19:03] Speaker 2: if I love the show as much as I love
[19:07] Speaker 2: the music.
[19:08] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I agree, because I think I like the
[19:10] Speaker 1: music more that I like show, and.
[19:12] Speaker 2: The same maybe Happy Ending is going up there. It's
[19:15] Speaker 2: top five for me.
[19:16] Speaker 1: I mean you said when you saw that show. Yeah, recently,
[19:20] Speaker 1: you said I was the favorite, one of the most,
[19:22] Speaker 1: the favorite things you've ever seen.
[19:24] Speaker 2: It was the greatest thing I've ever seen. Yeah, I
[19:26] Speaker 2: think it's specifically for me. It is my jam. But
[19:32] Speaker 2: it's also one of those things where I don't know
[19:33] Speaker 2: if there i'd go back and listen to a bunch
[19:36] Speaker 2: of the music by itself. There's definitely some songs, but
[19:41] Speaker 2: like that show to me, mm hmm, as like a
[19:44] Speaker 2: piece of theater is what I want to see. Like
[19:47] Speaker 2: I I would go back over and over over to
[19:49] Speaker 2: see that, fair enough, So that's definitely up there. Okay,
[19:53] Speaker 2: I have phantom on here.
[19:55] Speaker 1: Get out of here.
[19:56] Speaker 2: Don't be mad at me.
[19:57] Speaker 1: I'm mad.
[19:58] Speaker 2: That's like that also is the salgic for.
[20:00] Speaker 1: Me, I understand.
[20:02] Speaker 2: But I'm seeing that like a touring production in San
[20:06] Speaker 2: Francisco when I was like seven years old. It was
[20:09] Speaker 2: life changing.
[20:10] Speaker 1: I get it. I it's the reason why it's like
[20:14] Speaker 1: one of the longest Okay.
[20:18] Speaker 2: So I don't know if that needs to be top five,
[20:20] Speaker 2: but it does.
[20:21] Speaker 1: I think it does for you.
[20:22] Speaker 2: Okay, I'm gonna take color, Okay, hard that becomes her.
[20:28] Speaker 2: I have a strange loop on you. Yoh yeah, okay,
[20:32] Speaker 2: incredible wild show, really really moving. Okay, I think that's
[20:40] Speaker 2: my I've said all ten of those, Okay, Okay. I
[20:44] Speaker 2: just don't know what qualify the top five.
[20:46] Speaker 1: I think your top five is pretty close. I think
[20:49] Speaker 1: it's maybe happy Ending, Phantom, spelling into the Woods, and
[20:52] Speaker 1: spelling day.
[20:54] Speaker 2: What's fifth?
[20:55] Speaker 1: Oh, maybe I'm fanning and spelling into the woods.
[21:01] Speaker 2: It's not a strange loop.
[21:03] Speaker 1: Maybe death because I think maybe death becomes.
[21:06] Speaker 2: Her it's for you, or or I might have to
[21:10] Speaker 2: be color purple though, hmmm, that music makes me feel something.
[21:16] Speaker 1: Okay, then let's put it in there. Let's put it
[21:19] Speaker 1: in there.
[21:19] Speaker 2: Okay, So into the Woods, spelling beat, the offer, maybe
[21:25] Speaker 2: happy Ending in the color Purple my top five.
[21:28] Speaker 1: Wow.
[21:29] Speaker 2: Now I've never seen Chicago on stage.
[21:32] Speaker 1: I like Chicago. I think you like the movie more
[21:35] Speaker 1: though I liked the movie more. It's a little bit
[21:38] Speaker 1: more expressive. There's a little bit more visually to see.
[21:42] Speaker 1: I think at this point now it's about the cast
[21:44] Speaker 1: and who's in it and who people are going to see,
[21:46] Speaker 1: obviously Alex newl But like you know, it's it's a
[21:49] Speaker 1: black box basically, yeah, it's so it's really like a
[21:53] Speaker 1: black box.
[21:53] Speaker 2: And I've never seen Tytic Boom except the movie in
[21:55] Speaker 2: which I.
[21:58] Speaker 1: Literally stools like stools mics. So it was off Broadway,
[22:02] Speaker 1: by the way, but it was I guess so technically
[22:06] Speaker 1: a musical if we're not going by Broadway musicals. But yeah,
[22:10] Speaker 1: black box, so I think the movie you would also
[22:12] Speaker 1: like better. Okay, okay, this is my top six right now. Okay,
[22:19] Speaker 1: I'm having I'm struggling, but mis Sigon, lame Is, Rent,
[22:23] Speaker 1: Moving Out, Spring Awakening, Into the Woods gets pushed to
[22:26] Speaker 1: six king and I gets pushed to sound Wow. Into
[22:34] Speaker 1: the Woods and Spring Awakening are definitely head to head,
[22:39] Speaker 1: but I think like moving I listened to Moving Out
[22:43] Speaker 1: like it's like if my top listens. It's also like
[22:47] Speaker 1: very pleasant to listen to without like needing the musical itself. Missigon,
[22:53] Speaker 1: I haven't listened to in a long time, but it
[22:54] Speaker 1: was just like such a staple for me growing up.
[22:57] Speaker 1: Lame Is is also just a staple growing up. Rent
[23:00] Speaker 1: is like my obsession. Spring Awakening was powerful, and Into
[23:05] Speaker 1: the Woods has to make number six because of some time.
[23:08] Speaker 1: But I think this is right. I think this this hit. Yeah,
[23:13] Speaker 1: I think so.
[23:14] Speaker 2: I also hope I'm probably just gonna get read to
[23:17] Speaker 2: filth of my basic ass. Look, I'm learning, Okay.
[23:21] Speaker 1: I wish that you are and you're seeing a lot,
[23:24] Speaker 1: and you're in a musical now and you're making your way,
[23:27] Speaker 1: and I'm so proud of you. Yeah. I mean, there
[23:31] Speaker 1: was not a musical like that in a really long time, right.
[23:34] Speaker 1: I remember when it came out and I would listen
[23:36] Speaker 1: to it on the subway and I just like, everybody's
[23:38] Speaker 1: just like drumming it into their you know, phones and
[23:42] Speaker 1: iPods and everything time. And it was one of those
[23:45] Speaker 1: musicals that reminded me of the Wickeds of the world,
[23:48] Speaker 1: of the Spring Awakenings of the world. Oh Avenue Q
[23:51] Speaker 1: wasn't even on there. Oh my gosh, the Rents where
[23:55] Speaker 1: you just listen on loop right, you listen NonStop. There's
[23:58] Speaker 1: like two sides and you're like just go back and forth.
[24:00] Speaker 2: Now, Hamilton's an incredible, incredibly complex and perfect show.
[24:04] Speaker 1: It's definitely in my top ten. It's definitely in my
[24:07] Speaker 1: top ten.
[24:08] Speaker 2: I forgot to put that. That would absolutely be in
[24:10] Speaker 2: my top ten.
[24:11] Speaker 1: Okay, fair enough. Uh, yeah, I think there's like a
[24:15] Speaker 1: mix of like what what makes it so good? Like
[24:19] Speaker 1: I think also there's like the the part of it
[24:22] Speaker 1: that's like, oh a revival and like you bring it
[24:25] Speaker 1: back and you're like, wow, it's reimagined. That's so exciting
[24:28] Speaker 1: and makes things even better. But like something that was
[24:31] Speaker 1: all really really good. The thing about revivals for me
[24:34] Speaker 1: is like, if it's perfect, it has to be different, right,
[24:38] Speaker 1: You can't like yes, because what are we doing? Why
[24:42] Speaker 1: are we touching it? You know?
[24:44] Speaker 2: And I think a lot of revivals missed that.
[24:48] Speaker 1: Agreed, But something that Mark George did a really good job,
[24:52] Speaker 1: I thought, And.
[24:55] Speaker 2: I want to go to Lincoln Center and watch.
[24:59] Speaker 1: You should anyway. I hope this was fun for people.
[25:02] Speaker 1: I would love to hear your guys' top five.
[25:06] Speaker 2: Yeah, way, Jenna, I need to know one thing from
[25:08] Speaker 2: you before we go. Okay, out of all the shows
[25:13] Speaker 2: we've mentioned, is there a role, Oh my god, and
[25:19] Speaker 2: one of them that you have not played that you
[25:23] Speaker 2: would absolutely love to like? What is the top role
[25:26] Speaker 2: in all of these?
[25:27] Speaker 1: Okay, well, miss Igon obviously, Islana cam and mis Icon,
[25:31] Speaker 1: But the white whale of my life I've I've outgrown
[25:35] Speaker 1: it at this point is Eponine. I've always wanted to
[25:39] Speaker 1: do epanine. Who hasn't or who doesn't dream of doing eponine?
[25:43] Speaker 1: Or maybe I'm wrong, maybe there's like a new one
[25:45] Speaker 1: that's the new eponin of this generation. But like I
[25:49] Speaker 1: was like, it's my white whale. I'll never play it.
[25:54] Speaker 1: I'm too old now. It was always my dream. Are
[25:58] Speaker 1: you day more? It's my favorite? One day more is
[26:02] Speaker 1: my favorite and I would love to be a part
[26:05] Speaker 1: of that number. What about you?
[26:12] Speaker 2: Oh god?
[26:14] Speaker 1: Oh I mean there a fun home.
[26:18] Speaker 2: I also thought, uh, fun Holme would be up there,
[26:21] Speaker 2: and so a book of Mormon.
[26:22] Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. I put pokem Mormon and they
[26:23] Speaker 1: were deleted. I was like, oh my god, I think
[26:29] Speaker 1: I don't know the phanim.
[26:34] Speaker 2: Honestly, Yes, Phantom and the opera.
[26:38] Speaker 1: And I think Jack will be your white will Yes,
[26:41] Speaker 1: Jack into the Wood, although I don't think that you
[26:43] Speaker 1: would be too old for Jack, because I think adults
[26:45] Speaker 1: can play Jack and it's widely accepted.
[26:47] Speaker 2: Or I could probably play the baker, Yes you could
[26:51] Speaker 2: at this point.
[26:52] Speaker 1: You'd be a great baker. Anyway. I hope you guys
[26:57] Speaker 1: enjoyed this. I hope it was semi enjoyable for you.
