[0:01] Speaker 1: And That's what you Really missed with Jenna.
[0:04] Speaker 2: And Kevin An iHeartRadio podcast.
[0:09] Speaker 1: Welcome to You, and That's what you Really miss podcast
[0:12] Speaker 1: Surprise special episode.
[0:15] Speaker 2: Basically, we want to talk about things we like. And
[0:19] Speaker 2: I love award shows, so do I. I love an event, Jenna,
[0:23] Speaker 2: I love an event.
[0:24] Speaker 1: Well, I don't love events, but I do love award shows,
[0:26] Speaker 1: and this one in particular that just happened this past weekend.
[0:31] Speaker 1: The Golden Globes one of our favorite pastimes Kevin.
[0:35] Speaker 2: Growing up. I love to watch it. I love to
[0:38] Speaker 2: go there with you. That was so much fun all
[0:41] Speaker 2: the Glee years, and I still love watching it. It
[0:44] Speaker 2: is a wild and kooky yeah, time.
[0:49] Speaker 1: To be watching award shows. The eighty third Golden Globe
[0:52] Speaker 1: Awards were on Sunday, hosted by Nikki Glazer, who, by.
[0:56] Speaker 2: The way, just slam like no one has ever been better.
[1:01] Speaker 1: Okay, because you know, the Golden Globes are infamous for
[1:05] Speaker 1: finding the right host. Obviously during our times, we had
[1:08] Speaker 1: Ricky Gervais, who could be quite controversial and not quite
[1:13] Speaker 1: the fit that people were looking for always. But I
[1:17] Speaker 1: didn't watch them growing up as religiously as you I think,
[1:20] Speaker 1: But I learned to appreciate them. I learned to appreciate
[1:23] Speaker 1: like ingesting more media, and so around the time of
[1:27] Speaker 1: Gay of course, we learned about all the award shows,
[1:30] Speaker 1: the Golden Globes being one of the more fun relaxed
[1:34] Speaker 1: award shows. You're not in a theater, you're eating dinner,
[1:36] Speaker 1: you're having drinks, you're mingling with people in the crowd,
[1:40] Speaker 1: you're seeing friends on commercial breaks. It's really much more
[1:44] Speaker 1: relax and I think that we've talked about this in
[1:47] Speaker 1: the past and more recently, Kevin like award shows. I
[1:51] Speaker 1: think inside from the inside out, people like it's kind
[1:58] Speaker 1: of like a a joke, but not a joke, right,
[2:03] Speaker 1: We're not making fun of like anything. But it's like people,
[2:06] Speaker 1: it's not that serious inside.
[2:09] Speaker 2: Here's what I think, especially now, you know, being on
[2:14] Speaker 2: social media too much. I think on the outside people
[2:17] Speaker 2: take it a lot more seriously.
[2:18] Speaker 1: Than Yes, inside, thank you.
[2:20] Speaker 2: And I think like when people say it's an honor
[2:24] Speaker 2: to just be nominated, because truly, if you are, even
[2:28] Speaker 2: if you're not nominated, if you're part of something that
[2:31] Speaker 2: gets you to be invited to the Golden Globes and
[2:33] Speaker 2: to just be there, yep, honestly, you don't care what
[2:38] Speaker 2: a joy about anything else because it is so much
[2:42] Speaker 2: fun and it's so rare. It's a small room. It's
[2:44] Speaker 2: like the Oscars are in a full theater, or the
[2:46] Speaker 2: Grammys that it's an arena.
[2:48] Speaker 1: Emmys, it's like massive. This is so small.
[2:51] Speaker 2: It's a tiny, tiny room. And if you were watching,
[2:54] Speaker 2: you'll see there's like different levels. So there's the level
[2:58] Speaker 2: that's right in front of the stage, which is where
[2:59] Speaker 2: they with the biggest movie stars, and then usually like
[3:02] Speaker 2: TVs and then you just get further away from the stage.
[3:07] Speaker 1: And not everybody's invited to the Golden Globes, so like
[3:09] Speaker 1: you know, because of Glee, like we had such a
[3:11] Speaker 1: big cast, like every year, it was like who's going
[3:14] Speaker 1: into the Globes this year?
[3:15] Speaker 2: And like not.
[3:16] Speaker 1: Everybody got in fighted so it was a big deal.
[3:18] Speaker 1: But it was also like I just wanted to get
[3:20] Speaker 1: in that room because it was just like summer camp
[3:22] Speaker 1: and so much fun. And I'm I'm curious to hear
[3:28] Speaker 1: what you thought of this year's Globes, Kevin, because you
[3:32] Speaker 1: got to watch them. I normally will sit down and
[3:34] Speaker 1: watch them. I enjoy them, but children get in the
[3:37] Speaker 1: way that's like exact bedtime. So I got the highlights
[3:40] Speaker 1: on on Instagram.
[3:41] Speaker 2: This is what I'm here for. Gay bestie is here.
[3:45] Speaker 1: Tell you about so tell me tell me overall. Tell
[3:49] Speaker 1: me about Nikki said she was great. There's nobody better
[3:51] Speaker 1: like tell me about the whole vibe.
[3:53] Speaker 2: So like NICKI crushing it. There are a lot of
[3:57] Speaker 2: production changes that I enjoy and some I did not. Okay,
[4:02] Speaker 2: like what red carpets suck? Right? Lighting on red carpet
[4:06] Speaker 2: is not normally like great obviously for this one also
[4:09] Speaker 2: known as like the biggest red carpet in the world.
[4:11] Speaker 1: Yes, actually very long.
[4:14] Speaker 2: They have a whole new set up their stairs sort
[4:17] Speaker 2: of like yep, the lighting, Jenna phenomenal, beautiful whether they're
[4:24] Speaker 2: doing phenomenal even so, like when they also would show
[4:28] Speaker 2: the nominees where the categories would come up, they would
[4:31] Speaker 2: they had like an aerial view or like a wide
[4:34] Speaker 2: shot of the room and they would have a light
[4:36] Speaker 2: spot like on the table where the nominee wash up,
[4:39] Speaker 2: which I really quite liked. Yes, so like that was
[4:44] Speaker 2: really beautiful. Things I did not like mich felt so dystopian.
[4:52] Speaker 1: Okay.
[4:53] Speaker 2: Two things One they kept throwing to like a poly market. Well,
[4:57] Speaker 2: here I am talking about poly market. This is probably
[5:00] Speaker 2: what they wanted. Oh god. But they kept doing like
[5:06] Speaker 2: here's the polymarket, like predictions about who's going to win
[5:11] Speaker 2: X category as they were going in and out of commercials, and.
[5:15] Speaker 1: It felt so sponsored.
[5:17] Speaker 2: Yes, it felt so gross. Like it felt so weird
[5:23] Speaker 2: because part of this other thing we can you and
[5:25] Speaker 2: I will talk about this in another episode and more
[5:28] Speaker 2: in depth about the weird like fan behavior in terms
[5:36] Speaker 2: of like hitting actors or shows or songs or whoever
[5:41] Speaker 2: against each other based off of like commercial success and
[5:44] Speaker 2: so having like the I don't know, sports betting aspect
[5:49] Speaker 2: of this in like a movie form, which is a
[5:53] Speaker 2: more like a competition, right, when like this is a
[5:55] Speaker 2: fully subjective, artistic.
[5:58] Speaker 1: Thing, right.
[5:59] Speaker 2: And I get your like you're going based off of
[6:01] Speaker 2: like who's been winning the Critics Choice Awards or who's
[6:03] Speaker 2: been winning I understand that.
[6:05] Speaker 1: But in the in the in the middle of it,
[6:08] Speaker 1: while they're like me the way.
[6:11] Speaker 2: Do you know how hard it is to get into
[6:12] Speaker 2: that room? Do you know how hard it is.
[6:14] Speaker 1: For anybody to even get a job show up? Yeah?
[6:17] Speaker 2: I think it's something like point zero one percent or
[6:21] Speaker 2: something of people and sag are employed, Yep, right, it's something,
[6:25] Speaker 2: or who qualify for healthcare? Yeah, it is such a
[6:28] Speaker 2: small amount of people. Yes, And whether you're talking about music,
[6:32] Speaker 2: like the people who wrote Golden like she gave a
[6:34] Speaker 2: great speech.
[6:34] Speaker 1: If I can't just celebrate everybody, like why are we
[6:37] Speaker 1: betting on people? Who is most likely who's better, who's
[6:40] Speaker 1: supposed to win? Who? Like even hearing that, you're like,
[6:43] Speaker 1: oh wow, somebody's better than me, like all the inside voice,
[6:47] Speaker 1: like the internal voices that we hear as artists that
[6:49] Speaker 1: were like, you know, kind of our own worst enemies
[6:52] Speaker 1: at all times, and then to externalize that and share
[6:56] Speaker 1: that with audiences who are like, oh yeah it is
[6:59] Speaker 1: it is like that it is doggy dog this This
[7:01] Speaker 1: industry is hard enough right now. We are struggling, and
[7:06] Speaker 1: that to me also is like, oh the money is
[7:09] Speaker 1: more important.
[7:10] Speaker 2: Well, that's the perfect transition, Jenna to what my other
[7:16] Speaker 2: negative thing was. Okay, And I think this goes to
[7:20] Speaker 2: the broader topic of CBS where by the way, Nikki
[7:28] Speaker 2: made Oh yes, I aired on CBS and she made
[7:32] Speaker 2: a great joke about CBS News and what's been going
[7:35] Speaker 2: on there, And I think this is all tied together.
[7:40] Speaker 2: There was a moment before they brought out the heated
[7:42] Speaker 2: rivalry guys where they're like, oh, these guys need security,
[7:46] Speaker 2: So we brought out some extra security and they have
[7:48] Speaker 2: two people from UFC, like UFC fighters come out and
[7:53] Speaker 2: do this random ass like circle around the stage and
[7:56] Speaker 2: just walk off the stage, which is clearly promo. And
[7:59] Speaker 2: I was like, huh, I wonder if that has anything
[8:01] Speaker 2: to do with that weird ass event. Trump spent touting
[8:04] Speaker 2: y UFC event on the White House lawn the one behold,
[8:08] Speaker 2: guess who's airing it? CBS, And it's just like, look,
[8:15] Speaker 2: if you want to air a commercial, it's your network. Obviously,
[8:18] Speaker 2: it's you network, do whatever you want. Well, yeah, it
[8:21] Speaker 2: was like with that with the poly market stuff, and
[8:23] Speaker 2: then there were some like you know, like celebrity type
[8:26] Speaker 2: things being said about people who won as they're coming
[8:28] Speaker 2: up to the stage. It all felt like a little
[8:31] Speaker 2: like hokey and gross.
[8:34] Speaker 1: Can you tell me about the good things then?
[8:36] Speaker 2: Oh, but the good things were they really didn't play
[8:39] Speaker 2: anybody off stage, except which was also a bad thing. Sorry,
[8:43] Speaker 2: the Brazilian winner of The Secret Agent, which is a
[8:44] Speaker 2: great movie, but also like you're really gonna just only
[8:48] Speaker 2: do this when a foreign film months, like let's let's
[8:52] Speaker 2: not But I think all the winners, I was happy,
[8:56] Speaker 2: okay with all the winners. It was pretty spread out,
[8:59] Speaker 2: like okay, one bat after another had a great night.
[9:03] Speaker 2: Amy Poehler. One for Best Podcasts.
[9:06] Speaker 1: Well that's a new category.
[9:07] Speaker 2: Correct, it's a new category, and they didn't air Best
[9:11] Speaker 2: Score because of it, which is also weird. They had
[9:13] Speaker 2: time to yeah, they had, but they had time. I
[9:16] Speaker 2: think going forward, if they end up keeping this category,
[9:18] Speaker 2: there's time to do all that.
[9:20] Speaker 1: It is funny that they do podcasts for Golden Globes.
[9:23] Speaker 2: Now it feels it feels strange in the sense that
[9:29] Speaker 2: it's all TV and film, right, Like the whole show's
[9:32] Speaker 2: TV and films even referenced within like Nikki talking about
[9:36] Speaker 2: our other people talking about it. And then there's a podcast.
[9:38] Speaker 1: Well and also like podcasts with like what kind of
[9:40] Speaker 1: podcasts because these were all celebrities in the medium PR
[9:46] Speaker 1: but like we could have had these like great storytelling
[9:49] Speaker 1: podcasts that were produced by you know, like other networks,
[9:54] Speaker 1: So like what was the criteria for these podcasts? Because
[9:58] Speaker 1: there are so many podcasts these days, Like I'm a
[10:01] Speaker 1: podcast listener, and I was like, what is it a podcast?
[10:04] Speaker 1: It should have been a podcast host maybe because that's
[10:09] Speaker 1: what it felt like they were honoring. But anyway, it
[10:13] Speaker 1: seems like it was a It was spread out though
[10:16] Speaker 1: all the winners, and there was like a lot of
[10:18] Speaker 1: good things recognized, speaking of space in the or room
[10:23] Speaker 1: for everyone in this room. I did see online something
[10:27] Speaker 1: about Julia Roberts, and I don't know if she had
[10:29] Speaker 1: won something, if she was presenting something, and just like
[10:34] Speaker 1: giving a shout out to another film that that star
[10:38] Speaker 1: felt like like, look shell shocked that Julia Roberts was
[10:40] Speaker 1: talking about her. So I can you tell me more
[10:43] Speaker 1: about that? Because that looked like very heartwarming to me.
[10:46] Speaker 2: Can we do this every week? I love this. I
[10:48] Speaker 2: am filled with useless information and being able to just
[10:52] Speaker 2: tell you, okay. I do love at the end of
[10:54] Speaker 2: an award show when somebody like Julia Roberts comes to
[10:58] Speaker 2: like give the big award and then just gets a
[11:01] Speaker 2: standing ovation for no reason. I mean there is a
[11:04] Speaker 2: reason because she's Julia Roberts, but yes, she she pointed out,
[11:09] Speaker 2: and I think this is like using your position of
[11:11] Speaker 2: power for good. She was nominated against Eva Victor from
[11:17] Speaker 2: Sorry Baby. She even also like wrote and produced Sorry Baby,
[11:22] Speaker 2: and Julia Roberts are just like, go watch it. It's incredible.
[11:25] Speaker 2: Go watch Sorry Baby. I'm actually gonna watch it tonight. Yeah,
[11:30] Speaker 2: Julia Roberts told me, she said, but that was cool.
[11:34] Speaker 2: And I think here's the thing, Like, yes, I get
[11:37] Speaker 2: we can be critical about these award shows and like
[11:40] Speaker 2: YadA YadA YadA. At the end of the day, especially
[11:44] Speaker 2: the Golden Globes, Yep, it is just a good time.
[11:47] Speaker 2: It's a party. It's really not that serious, and I
[11:51] Speaker 2: just need everyone to like pitting sinners versus one battle
[11:57] Speaker 2: after another. That of course there's critique into talk about
[12:00] Speaker 2: these things, and we should talk about these things. Yeah,
[12:03] Speaker 2: But like at the end of the day, as long
[12:06] Speaker 2: as these movies are getting seen.
[12:09] Speaker 1: Where they are getting made, they're getting seen. People are working.
[12:12] Speaker 1: Celebrate it, celebrate thet it.
[12:15] Speaker 2: Celebrate it, and like that room is so fun to.
[12:17] Speaker 1: Be Oh, it's the bed. It really is. Everyone shows
[12:22] Speaker 1: up and it gets so drunk and it's just like
[12:26] Speaker 1: it's like the kickoff to the season. People are celebrating
[12:29] Speaker 1: their work. Everybody's getting dressed up. We know, the Globes
[12:33] Speaker 1: carpet is the longest. It's so fun to see all
[12:36] Speaker 1: the fashion. What because this is like the beginning of
[12:39] Speaker 1: the you know, it's the kickoff, so like what are
[12:42] Speaker 1: people going to do? You're seeing new haircuts, you're seeing
[12:44] Speaker 1: pregnancy announcements. It's like it is it is Hollywood's biggest
[12:50] Speaker 1: night out, but there's fifteen more of them, and we
[12:53] Speaker 1: love to see it and I think it's such a
[12:56] Speaker 1: particular time and but it brings back so much nostalgia
[13:01] Speaker 1: for us, I think because we've been there and we
[13:04] Speaker 1: know on the inside like it's just it's just fun.
[13:10] Speaker 1: The party after are fun.
[13:12] Speaker 2: You see those people go up there to accept their award.
[13:15] Speaker 2: I think you can see how close everybody is sitting,
[13:18] Speaker 2: and like, luckily enough we got we won twice and
[13:20] Speaker 2: so we got to go up there and you look
[13:22] Speaker 2: down and it is just George and Julia Roberts from you. Yes,
[13:28] Speaker 2: and at the commercial breaks, it's like there's no pretentiousness
[13:31] Speaker 2: in that room. I think it's like understood if you
[13:34] Speaker 2: have been allowed in here, you're a part of something
[13:38] Speaker 2: that was allowed in here, and everybody's like cool.
[13:41] Speaker 1: And rooting for you. Like Meryl Streep came up after
[13:45] Speaker 1: we won and chatted with us and we were like
[13:48] Speaker 1: literally like gobsmacked, and you're like, oh, but you're there
[13:52] Speaker 1: with her, and that's so cool. That was such a
[13:56] Speaker 1: bucket list moment.
[13:57] Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's like backstage too, it's like even crazier,
[14:01] Speaker 2: and it's just nice to see that. Like the everybody,
[14:05] Speaker 2: especially the biggest stars you know, are successful financially, they're
[14:10] Speaker 2: successful career wise. The awards don't necessarily mean everything. Obviously
[14:15] Speaker 2: they're fun to get, but like they're so chill and
[14:20] Speaker 2: interested in helping the younger people come up. I want
[14:32] Speaker 2: to talk about Owen Cooper, who's the sixteen year old
[14:34] Speaker 2: from Adolescents. Oh my god, Like the amount of pressure
[14:40] Speaker 2: to like give an acceptance speech in front of that
[14:42] Speaker 2: room when you are sixteen, even though he's already won
[14:45] Speaker 2: a bunch and done it.
[14:46] Speaker 1: How was it great?
[14:48] Speaker 2: He's like, he's great. I think anybody who can get up,
[14:51] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, insane, insane and he's in Weathering Heights coming out,
[14:55] Speaker 2: so he's about to blow everywhere. I also love it
[15:01] Speaker 2: like Plurvis is already just winning.
[15:03] Speaker 1: That's so funny because I just started it and I'm
[15:05] Speaker 1: I'm early on and obviously I've just I've heard all
[15:08] Speaker 1: the hubbub about it and it's the biggest show, you know,
[15:11] Speaker 1: view show and I but I love ras Sehorn and
[15:15] Speaker 1: I love that this is getting the recognition because like
[15:20] Speaker 1: of all the past works that this team has done
[15:24] Speaker 1: and like better call Saul and I.
[15:27] Speaker 2: I just it's so we have we have our Emmy
[15:30] Speaker 2: Award winning sound mixer on.
[15:36] Speaker 1: I also watch things because they win, and so I
[15:38] Speaker 1: think that's a lot of people are like, oh, I
[15:40] Speaker 1: should watch this now, I should see this now, or
[15:43] Speaker 1: not even if they don't, even if they don't win, like,
[15:46] Speaker 1: but it's exposure and yeah, I'm I'm it's very exciting
[15:51] Speaker 1: to see.
[15:52] Speaker 2: Well now that we're starting this, I know you're busy
[15:53] Speaker 2: and have kids and a full time job. You know,
[16:01] Speaker 2: are there opportunities to watch any of these movies like
[16:05] Speaker 2: before the SAG Awards and before well the Actor Awards.
[16:08] Speaker 2: Now I hate that they changed it.
[16:09] Speaker 1: Oh gosh, I do want to see Marty Supreme and
[16:15] Speaker 1: maybe I have like probably time to watch two or three.
[16:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, if you tell me what you're in the
[16:20] Speaker 2: mood for, I can guide you.
[16:23] Speaker 1: Okay, so great.
[16:25] Speaker 2: I don't think Marty Supreme is out at home.
[16:27] Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, yeah, I need to watch things at home?
[16:29] Speaker 2: So what.
[16:32] Speaker 1: One Battle after another?
[16:33] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a long movie, though you may have to
[16:35] Speaker 2: do it in a couple of sessions.
[16:36] Speaker 1: Yeah, I definitely want make.
[16:37] Speaker 2: Yeah, sentimental value is at home. Okay, you can do
[16:40] Speaker 2: that if I had like that, kick you as at Home?
[16:43] Speaker 1: Okay.
[16:44] Speaker 2: So I love that Rose Byrne has been good for
[16:47] Speaker 2: so long, so long, like so long. I'm just I'm
[16:52] Speaker 2: glad that she's I know words don't mean anything, but no,
[16:58] Speaker 2: I know you know the recognition.
[17:01] Speaker 1: That's right.
[17:01] Speaker 2: I saw I just saw the Secret Agent.
[17:03] Speaker 1: Last week and saw Hamnet the other day, which been
[17:06] Speaker 1: your favorite this season?
[17:07] Speaker 2: God, oh Sinners is at home as well, by the.
[17:11] Speaker 1: Way, Yes, I I watch half. I have to do
[17:14] Speaker 1: the other half something. Yeah.
[17:16] Speaker 2: I also that movie is so musical. Yes, it's just
[17:19] Speaker 2: like delicious how it uses music. I think One Battle
[17:24] Speaker 2: after Another is my favorite. Okay, great Hamnet is really
[17:28] Speaker 2: good and devastating Secret Agent is great. I also just
[17:34] Speaker 2: love Wagner mora side note, this show hasn't been nominated
[17:39] Speaker 2: for Golden Globes, but I hope next year. I've been
[17:42] Speaker 2: catching up on industry because the new season just started,
[17:46] Speaker 2: and every I watched season one when it came out,
[17:48] Speaker 2: and I was like, oh, that's fine. I was really
