[0:01] Speaker 1: And that's what you really missed with Jenna.
[0:04] Speaker 2: And Kevin an iHeartRadio podcast.
[0:09] Speaker 1: Welcome to and that's what you really this podcast. Ah,
[0:14] Speaker 1: here we are. We're at the end of our GLEI era.
[0:17] Speaker 1: Oh and it feels appropriate, only appropriate to ask ourselves
[0:25] Speaker 1: and for me to ask you and you to ask me, Kevin,
[0:28] Speaker 1: what is the feeling that leaves you with? But first,
[0:32] Speaker 1: if you've listened to the show at all for the
[0:35] Speaker 1: last three years, which thank you for coming on this
[0:38] Speaker 1: journey with us, you've heard us ask all of our
[0:41] Speaker 1: Glee guests, what's the feeling that Lee leaves you with?
[0:45] Speaker 1: I think that we should revisit some of our favorite
[0:48] Speaker 1: responses from some of our past guests over the last
[0:52] Speaker 1: three years.
[0:52] Speaker 2: Beautiful, I love the sound of that.
[0:54] Speaker 1: Okay, great, So let's start with mister Schwe himself, Matthew Morrison.
[0:57] Speaker 3: It is so mixed. Don't have a single answer for
[1:02] Speaker 3: that question. Like I said, it was the highest of
[1:06] Speaker 3: highs and the lowest of lows. But when I look
[1:10] Speaker 3: back at it, and I'm so proud. I'm proud of
[1:17] Speaker 3: the impact that we had in society. I'm proud of
[1:21] Speaker 3: all the things that we did for so many communities
[1:25] Speaker 3: that were underserved or underrepresented. The show opened people's eyes
[1:34] Speaker 3: to diversity, to people who weren't the status quo, who
[1:42] Speaker 3: looked different, who acted different, And I feel.
[1:46] Speaker 4: Like it was the beginning of such a revolution.
[1:49] Speaker 3: And for me, that is so beautiful to have been
[1:54] Speaker 3: at the kind of nucleus of that whole.
[2:00] Speaker 5: You know thing.
[2:02] Speaker 3: So I can't look back and and be you know,
[2:07] Speaker 3: I can complain about being overworked and you know.
[2:10] Speaker 5: Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
[2:12] Speaker 3: But just like the impact, that's the thing that will
[2:17] Speaker 3: stand the test of time. And for me, I think
[2:20] Speaker 3: that is, uh, that's a beautiful thing because most shows, most.
[2:24] Speaker 4: TV shows do not have an impact.
[2:26] Speaker 6: There.
[2:27] Speaker 3: They're binge worthy, they're fun, they're you know, you might
[2:30] Speaker 3: learn something, but there's there are a few and far
[2:35] Speaker 3: between shows that have like a cultural impact and a
[2:38] Speaker 3: societal people. So I love being a part of that legacy.
[2:42] Speaker 2: A very real answer. I love that. Yes, you know
[2:45] Speaker 2: it's a mixed bag, but ultimately, yes, we loved it.
[2:49] Speaker 7: We love it.
[2:50] Speaker 2: Okay, Next, let's hear from Miss Mercedes Jones Amberiety.
[2:54] Speaker 8: I would think besides, if I ever had a child.
[2:59] Speaker 8: That is the bosth amazing thing that I've done. Wow,
[3:03] Speaker 8: it was a roller coaster.
[3:04] Speaker 5: It was.
[3:05] Speaker 8: I grew up on that show. I became an adult
[3:08] Speaker 8: on that show. I became an artist on that show.
[3:13] Speaker 8: I just it really made me who I am. So
[3:16] Speaker 8: it leaves me with this just this fulfilling feeling. I
[3:20] Speaker 8: feel fulfilled that if I didn't do anything else in life,
[3:24] Speaker 8: I did that you did, and that's and.
[3:26] Speaker 9: And that's what we did.
[3:30] Speaker 8: Not a lot of people are going to be able
[3:31] Speaker 8: to say they can they've done that in their career.
[3:33] Speaker 9: And we did everything.
[3:36] Speaker 2: Everything we got an Oprah.
[3:38] Speaker 9: Oprah white House saying at the O two.
[3:42] Speaker 2: Singing the White House was one of the best moments
[3:45] Speaker 2: of my entire life.
[3:46] Speaker 8: I mean it's we we done what we got to
[3:49] Speaker 8: do on that show. People just in their lifetime we
[3:53] Speaker 8: never get to experience. So I feel very fulfilled. I
[3:57] Speaker 8: can always look back and be like, yeah.
[4:01] Speaker 1: Just like her, very epic.
[4:04] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean she's right, this is it was the
[4:07] Speaker 2: greatest thing that the incredible things we got to do
[4:12] Speaker 2: and that short amount of time is unreal.
[4:15] Speaker 1: Yeah, truly, it's the beginning of it all, you know. Yeah,
[4:19] Speaker 1: next we have the one and only Quinn for Bray
[4:22] Speaker 1: Diana Agron.
[4:24] Speaker 10: I just have such tenderness for that show. It's a
[4:27] Speaker 10: really glee opened the doors to everything I've been able
[4:34] Speaker 10: to do in my creative life, absolutely everything. There would
[4:37] Speaker 10: be no path without that, and so it's just so
[4:44] Speaker 10: delicate and tender to me.
[4:45] Speaker 9: It feels like the exact thing I.
[4:49] Speaker 10: Was searching for given to me at such a young age.
[4:54] Speaker 10: To be able to do that show with all of
[4:57] Speaker 10: you and find our family in that is just it's joyful,
[5:04] Speaker 10: it's tender, it's gleeful, it's you know too. I just
[5:10] Speaker 10: I really and the older I get, the more kind
[5:17] Speaker 10: of like protective I feel about our show because I
[5:21] Speaker 10: think that there have been so many opportunities for people.
[5:25] Speaker 9: I mean, we're the.
[5:26] Speaker 10: Only ones that really know what it was like. And
[5:31] Speaker 10: I think that again, meeting people on the streets who
[5:36] Speaker 10: have to just light up and want to at the
[5:39] Speaker 10: base level just tell you that they love the show
[5:42] Speaker 10: or your character or whatever, and at a more in
[5:45] Speaker 10: depth level, really want to share with you as specific
[5:48] Speaker 10: reason why. And we had that then and the fact
[5:51] Speaker 10: that we still have that now. There aren't always experiences
[5:56] Speaker 10: that you have as a storyteller that dig so deep
[6:00] Speaker 10: into people's hearts. Yeah, and I I may not ever
[6:05] Speaker 10: have a project, a project that people feel that strongly
[6:09] Speaker 10: about that people lead to tether these these like heart
[6:14] Speaker 10: strings too and wrap them up tightly.
[6:16] Speaker 1: And I think that's phenomenal.
[6:18] Speaker 10: I mean, if you can have one, two, three, but
[6:21] Speaker 10: if you if you have one that sits at the
[6:24] Speaker 10: top this with this amount of strength, yes, amazing because
[6:29] Speaker 10: some well don't have that. Imagine we're just doing other
[6:35] Speaker 10: projects that people are like. I love the stunts that
[6:37] Speaker 10: looked really hard, like yeah, and that's fun and thrilling too.
[6:41] Speaker 10: But like the emotional connection that people have the amount
[6:46] Speaker 10: of time somebody's come up to us with tears in
[6:48] Speaker 10: their eyes really.
[6:50] Speaker 1: Changed my life. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's wild to me.
[6:54] Speaker 10: But I had that feeling that that's what the show
[6:56] Speaker 10: is going to be when I read that pilot.
[6:58] Speaker 9: That pilot, I had Chris bumps when I finished.
[7:01] Speaker 11: Shit, Hello, it's Danielle Fischl, right or Strong and Wilfridell

[8:08] Speaker 2: Three time podcast guests, We can't keep him away. Thank
[8:12] Speaker 2: you Darren for coming on here so many times. By
[8:14] Speaker 2: the way, but here's Darren Cris's insightful thoughts.
[8:19] Speaker 9: It's the gift that.
[8:19] Speaker 7: Keeps on giving. I would say, I would say, for
[8:21] Speaker 7: lack of a better fucking answer, it's the cliche that
[8:25] Speaker 7: I don't want to deliver but fucking Glee. Man, It's
[8:27] Speaker 7: one of the great titles of the show.
[8:30] Speaker 9: Like it.
[8:31] Speaker 7: It is such a gleeful experience. I truly like, I
[8:35] Speaker 7: know there's a lot of like, you know, hairy things
[8:38] Speaker 7: that that people may think they know happened on the
[8:41] Speaker 7: show or project happened to the show. Maybe because I'm
[8:44] Speaker 7: a happy idiot, maybe because I can block out that stuff,
[8:47] Speaker 7: Maybe because that's just in the right place at the
[8:48] Speaker 7: right time. Maybe because I am late to the party,
[8:50] Speaker 7: Chris and I never was privy to a lot of
[8:52] Speaker 7: whatever difficulty or contention that may or may not have
[8:54] Speaker 7: existed between people and situations. I had an A plus
[8:59] Speaker 7: experience on that show. I loved every minute. I loved
[9:01] Speaker 7: every person truly, and anytime people ask me about Lee,
[9:05] Speaker 7: I'll go, like, you want the t I'll give you
[9:07] Speaker 7: the tea. I'll tell you everything that I know because
[9:09] Speaker 7: all of it.
[9:09] Speaker 9: Is glowingly positive.
[9:11] Speaker 1: I have ary.
[9:12] Speaker 7: I have a positive I have a positive, wonderful story
[9:15] Speaker 7: about every single person individually that if anybody ever said thing, well,
[9:19] Speaker 7: I don't know I heard this, I'd be like, tell
[9:20] Speaker 7: you what you want to hear a really really wonderful
[9:22] Speaker 7: story about that person, then I have them, I have
[9:24] Speaker 7: them all, I have all the receipts on great moments
[9:27] Speaker 7: with everybody, and uh yeah, Glee was a gleef was
[9:32] Speaker 7: so gleeful for me. It was a joy. It was
[9:34] Speaker 7: a joyous experience I've loved. I loved working on that show.
[9:37] Speaker 7: I had so much fun with you guys.
[9:39] Speaker 1: Did I believe you? Just a casual? Tony Ward went
[9:42] Speaker 1: on our show Big Deal. Okay, one of our favorite
[9:45] Speaker 1: guest stars of all time, our first big guest star.
[9:49] Speaker 1: We have the one, the only, Christie jennle with Well,
[9:54] Speaker 1: I'm not.
[9:54] Speaker 13: Going to say it leads me with Glee because everybody said.
[9:57] Speaker 1: That, no, it's we haven't gotten.
[10:01] Speaker 2: Maybe once.
[10:02] Speaker 13: Well, I mean I was going to say joy, but
[10:04] Speaker 13: Glee is it? Because Glee represents for me something I
[10:08] Speaker 13: didn't have in high school. We had madrig goals because
[10:10] Speaker 13: there was only five of us, and I always wanted
[10:13] Speaker 13: to have a glee club. And so for me getting
[10:16] Speaker 13: to do the show Glee and then go back to
[10:19] Speaker 13: my high school and see that they had developed a
[10:23] Speaker 13: glee club and now a thirty five people in it,
[10:27] Speaker 13: and that's because of the show. I don't even know
[10:29] Speaker 13: if I've ever gotten to tell Ryan Murphy that. But
[10:31] Speaker 13: the choir director said, it's because of the show Glee
[10:35] Speaker 13: that you were on that developed an interest.
[10:38] Speaker 1: I mean, this show changed choir.
[10:42] Speaker 13: And so because I love young talent and I have
[10:45] Speaker 13: my camp and arch and education fund and all that
[10:48] Speaker 13: stuff to be it leaves me with pure joy. So Glee,
[10:51] Speaker 13: That's what it leaves me.
[10:52] Speaker 4: And it still does.
[10:53] Speaker 13: When the girls got Yesterdaight emo, so thank you.
[10:58] Speaker 5: How sweet.
[10:59] Speaker 1: It's so like the show is like for some people,
[11:03] Speaker 1: is like everything that you had been dreaming and never
[11:06] Speaker 1: got or had dreamed you would have, or things that
[11:11] Speaker 1: you didn't have.
[11:12] Speaker 2: I just you know, it's a dream scenario for like
[11:14] Speaker 2: some of its college years, some of its high school years.
[11:17] Speaker 1: And I'm telling you the thing, the fam that I
[11:19] Speaker 1: would have been, the fam that I would have been,
[11:24] Speaker 1: let's hear from.
[11:25] Speaker 14: Jacob Artist, nostalgia for everything that you know we all
[11:29] Speaker 14: did together and how much fun we had. But then
[11:32] Speaker 14: I think also just like a celebration of you know,
[11:40] Speaker 14: people and singing and dancing and acting and the joy
[11:43] Speaker 14: that that can really bring. And you know, I think
[11:47] Speaker 14: this show in many ways is a lot about kind
[11:49] Speaker 14: of celebrating the underdog, and so I think it's like
[11:53] Speaker 14: a combination, a blender of just like all of those things,
[11:56] Speaker 14: you know, and I think there it's not a mistake.
[12:01] Speaker 14: The show was as explosive as it was because there
[12:06] Speaker 14: was some real magic to it that you guys put there.
[12:10] Speaker 14: I mean, obviously I came in like much later in
[12:13] Speaker 14: the picture, but you know what you guys did in
[12:15] Speaker 14: those first two seasons, it was not an accident. There
[12:19] Speaker 14: was something really special about it. It really resonated with people,
[12:22] Speaker 14: and like I said, everybody loved it and enjoyed it.
[12:26] Speaker 14: And it's not even once in a lifetime, maybe like
[12:29] Speaker 14: once every ten lifetimes, just sort of the stars.
[12:33] Speaker 2: Aligning and it was just really really really special.
[12:36] Speaker 1: We have another favorite newbie up next. Thank you Jacob
[12:39] Speaker 1: for also coming on the show. Noah Guthrie aka Roderick.
[12:45] Speaker 15: I would say, I mean mostly joyful. I would say,
[12:52] Speaker 15: you know, there's a the whole experience as a whole,
[12:56] Speaker 15: as a package, was a lot of learning and a
[13:00] Speaker 15: lot of ups and downs, but I think.
[13:04] Speaker 9: Overall, I was very grateful.
[13:05] Speaker 15: I was very just every time I see the show,
[13:08] Speaker 15: like even you know, like preparing for this, I watched
[13:11] Speaker 15: like the first episode or two of that season, and
[13:15] Speaker 15: you know, even just seeing it just makes me smile,
[13:18] Speaker 15: you know, like it just it just brings this kind
[13:21] Speaker 15: of joyfulness to me. And I think some of that is,
[13:27] Speaker 15: you know, Glee in a lot of ways brought up
[13:33] Speaker 15: and handled a lot of the issues that I dealt
[13:35] Speaker 15: with in high school that just were not talked about.
[13:40] Speaker 15: And you know, obviously that it happened at a time
[13:44] Speaker 15: when we were all kind of experienced at a pretty
[13:46] Speaker 15: big cultural shift in the country, and I just think
[13:50] Speaker 15: that it brought a lot of things to light that
[13:53] Speaker 15: needed to be brought to light and talked about, and
[13:57] Speaker 15: that always makes me feel really happy. It just makes
[14:01] Speaker 15: me feel good to know that, you know, even you know,
[14:04] Speaker 15: obviously the show has its flaws like everything, but I
[14:09] Speaker 15: do think that it's like a net good and I
[14:12] Speaker 15: think that it really especially from my experience of talking
[14:16] Speaker 15: with fans of the show, because you know, like I'm
[14:19] Speaker 15: I'm a fan of the show because I was on
[14:21] Speaker 15: the show, right, more fans of the show because the
[14:24] Speaker 15: show like.
[14:25] Speaker 9: Touched them, yeah, to their core.
[14:28] Speaker 15: You know. I have people talk to me at shows
[14:31] Speaker 15: and stuff that are so deeply affected by Glee and
[14:39] Speaker 15: the kind of message that it brought that it was
[14:42] Speaker 15: like life changing for these people, and yeah, I don't know,
[14:46] Speaker 15: it's just really special to be a part of something
[14:48] Speaker 15: like that.
[14:49] Speaker 2: Getting The Big Guns co creator Brad Foulchuck, It's.
[14:53] Speaker 16: As you said, it feels like family to me. It
[14:55] Speaker 16: just feels like like like we went through something together
[14:58] Speaker 16: that was so extraordinary and so bonding and wonderfully complicated
[15:05] Speaker 16: and wonderfully simple. And you know, the warmth I feel
[15:10] Speaker 16: when I see your guys faces, it just reminds me
[15:13] Speaker 16: of a time of life and I've an experience that
[15:15] Speaker 16: we had that that I feel.
[15:18] Speaker 5: Incredibly proud of and positive about.
[15:22] Speaker 16: And the fact that you know, new generations of people
[15:28] Speaker 16: who are now you know, keep enjoying the show and
[15:30] Speaker 16: it sort of lives on in that way. It just
[15:32] Speaker 16: makes me feel proud as a legacy thing that we
[15:34] Speaker 16: did something that meant a lot to people, and what
[15:40] Speaker 16: it meant to us doing it is even a little
[15:43] Speaker 16: bit more special like it was it was. It was, Yeah,
[15:48] Speaker 16: it was a family and all it's ups and downs
[15:51] Speaker 16: and almost mostly ups. So that's the feeling.
[15:55] Speaker 2: I really appreciate that sentiment because that is what it
[15:58] Speaker 2: feels like it's family.
[16:00] Speaker 1: If you're really lining into the obvious of like what
[16:03] Speaker 1: does it leave you with? Like it has left this
[16:05] Speaker 1: incredible mark, but an incredible group of people that like,
[16:09] Speaker 1: where would we beat without them?
[16:10] Speaker 2: My family doesn't leave, Yes, you know, like you can't
[16:14] Speaker 2: get rid of family. Yeah, And for better or for worse,
[16:18] Speaker 2: we have built this incredibly profound relationship with one another
[16:23] Speaker 2: and that is the best thing for us, I think, personally,
[16:26] Speaker 2: to come out of it well.
[16:30] Speaker 1: With the big guns here, we've got our fellow co
[16:33] Speaker 1: creator Ian Brennan.
[16:35] Speaker 17: Just like an unbelievable sense of pride.
[16:40] Speaker 4: It's very I'm very, very proud of like the whole.
[16:47] Speaker 10: Thing.
[16:48] Speaker 4: It's it's a very. It feels like a child.
[16:52] Speaker 17: It's like you know, once you have children, it doesn't
[16:54] Speaker 17: you like, no, that's a show and like child.
[16:58] Speaker 4: But it was like it's like a very.
[17:02] Speaker 17: It's it feels like an achievement, a creative achievement that
[17:06] Speaker 17: can never be taken away.
[17:08] Speaker 4: And I think we we.
[17:09] Speaker 17: So much of this industry and in like showbiz in
[17:15] Speaker 17: general is so ephemeral and can be so it's sort
[17:20] Speaker 17: of gone and it's like, what have you done for me?
[17:22] Speaker 17: Lately and it's like not another things that were so
[17:26] Speaker 17: important to you sort of like disappear.
[17:29] Speaker 4: What's did you see? What's on now? Like well, like
[17:32] Speaker 4: look guess what.
[17:32] Speaker 17: Where's just so not There's so few things that it's
[17:35] Speaker 17: like this show feels like, oh, it's I feel like
[17:37] Speaker 17: I wrote a book, Like there was a really good
[17:40] Speaker 17: book and it's like and every every junior high school
[17:43] Speaker 17: kid in seventh grade reads this book like it was
[17:46] Speaker 17: like it's it's just that you've like contributed to the
[17:51] Speaker 17: culture a bit or you're sort of like required reading
[17:55] Speaker 17: and that that is like a true.
[18:00] Speaker 4: That's where the pride comes from. You're like, oh, we
[18:03] Speaker 4: did it, and like I did that.
[18:05] Speaker 17: I did and I definitely take away from it. It's
[18:09] Speaker 17: a cool thing to sometime and again, like you guys
[18:11] Speaker 17: wouldn't experience this because people would already know you.
[18:13] Speaker 4: But it is like occasionally.
[18:16] Speaker 17: It's a fun thing to sometimes just drop if somebody
[18:20] Speaker 17: doesn't know you're just eating somebody or someone happens if
[18:23] Speaker 17: you're like you're.
[18:23] Speaker 4: Like abroad or whatever, and then h.
[18:28] Speaker 17: Oh, I kind of kind of just work in TV,
[18:31] Speaker 17: like oh, anything I know about and then just like well,
[18:35] Speaker 17: Glee I'm like, oh did you write on that? Like no, no, no,
[18:38] Speaker 17: I created it and just to.
[18:41] Speaker 4: Be like and it's a dick move to do good
[18:45] Speaker 4: but as if you didn't just set up the whole
[18:47] Speaker 4: thing to like drop camera and it's that. It is
[18:51] Speaker 4: like there is like so all the strm and drong and.
[18:54] Speaker 17: Like all the wildness of it.
[18:56] Speaker 4: It just the work and the late nights and it
[18:58] Speaker 4: sucks up.
[18:59] Speaker 18: It sucked up eight years of our life where it
[19:01] Speaker 18: was not really able to do anything else, like it
[19:03] Speaker 18: was like and and really to find took me away
[19:10] Speaker 18: from one career put me in another one.
[19:11] Speaker 4: Like it was very very impactful.
[19:14] Speaker 5: So like it.
[19:15] Speaker 17: That those moments are worth it when you can stand
[19:19] Speaker 17: back and be like, oh, but like we did that.
[19:22] Speaker 1: I think that Ian was the first one to bring
[19:25] Speaker 1: out the Pride card. I think it was like the
[19:29] Speaker 1: first time we had heard that, but happy Pride, Happy Pride.
[19:33] Speaker 1: After Ian came on, as I guess we started hearing
[19:35] Speaker 1: Pride a lot more actually, so he started the trend.
[19:40] Speaker 2: One of our favorite directors and people, Paris Barclay, I.
[19:45] Speaker 6: Would say, glee is when I think practically it's emotional.
[19:50] Speaker 6: That's the word I get so emotional that some shows
[19:55] Speaker 6: I feel, oh, that was stressful. Some shows I feel
[19:58] Speaker 6: that was hilarious. Is that's not too often for that,
[20:02] Speaker 6: But I feel very emotional about Glee, and I have
[20:06] Speaker 6: to say it's often tinged with sadness. It's sort of
[20:10] Speaker 6: like a youth, a period of longing for youth that
[20:14] Speaker 6: you can't get back, and sometimes saddeness. To me, I'll
[20:18] Speaker 6: be totally honest, because I sort of look at what's
[20:21] Speaker 6: transpired postly from Afar and I saw the Michelle and
[20:26] Speaker 6: Find a Girl last night and she was fantastic. I
[20:30] Speaker 6: realized that part of our family has kind of ruptured
[20:33] Speaker 6: around things that people did then, and that really makes
[20:36] Speaker 6: me sad. You know, I wish, I wish, I wish
[20:43] Speaker 6: I had to go to the festival. I wish there
[20:47] Speaker 6: were some more forgiveness in it. I think Ryan said
[20:51] Speaker 6: a great tone at the beginning of your podcast because
[20:53] Speaker 6: he was kind of owning up to his own mistakes
[20:56] Speaker 6: and kind of forgiving himself in a really beautiful way.
[20:59] Speaker 6: And I feel like I've definitely made mistakes, and I
[21:01] Speaker 6: certainly made more mistakes when I was the age that
[21:04] Speaker 6: you were in Lee, and I just wish that that
[21:07] Speaker 6: would rain. I wish that people would just let things
[21:09] Speaker 6: go and just hold on to the fact that there
[21:12] Speaker 6: was a beautiful, beautiful show that moved a lot of
[21:16] Speaker 6: people and talked about a lot of really important things.
[21:19] Speaker 6: I will never forget. It's also in Wheels when Sue
[21:22] Speaker 6: Sylvester brings in Lauren and that story that then becomes
[21:27] Speaker 6: a story with Robin. That story had a huge impact
[21:30] Speaker 6: on that community and people who love people who have
[21:33] Speaker 6: Down syndrome. That's really really emotional and powerful.
[21:37] Speaker 1: Kevin, you loved this interview with our incredible friend and
[21:43] Speaker 1: also the mastermind behind Glee's marketing campaigns, Joe Early. He
[21:47] Speaker 1: was the president of Marketing and Communications for Fox at
[21:50] Speaker 1: the time. And if you haven't heard that interview, also,
[21:54] Speaker 1: it's just so specific to the advertising and like how
[21:58] Speaker 1: the tone was set essentially to the masses. So Joe, really, I.
[22:02] Speaker 19: Mean, it was just an absolute thrill ride from the beginning.
[22:08] Speaker 19: I am sort of like a chronically optimistic person, you know,
[22:12] Speaker 19: I walk on the sunny side of the street.
[22:15] Speaker 5: But that show was so just personally meaningful.
[22:21] Speaker 19: But I watched it. I watched it change lives. That
[22:25] Speaker 19: show literally we know has saved lives think about that,
[22:30] Speaker 19: wildly entertaining, hilarious, actually introduced music to generations in a
[22:40] Speaker 19: new way. I remember Dante knew that. Dante knew I
[22:43] Speaker 19: was like a fanatic, even though I was all cool
[22:46] Speaker 19: on the side and everything. He'd do that as a fact,
[22:49] Speaker 19: and he would share songs with me in advance, so
[22:52] Speaker 19: I would hear songs and not even have not even
[22:55] Speaker 19: have the scripts. And so I'd be playing it with
[22:58] Speaker 19: my daughter, who you guys, we're very kind to.
[23:03] Speaker 5: You're like, why is this guy bringing his daughter to
[23:04] Speaker 5: the set? Because that was the only thing.
[23:06] Speaker 2: You've ever about it made.
[23:10] Speaker 19: She loved it too, And but we'd be in the
[23:14] Speaker 19: car listening to the Glee songs and then we'd be
[23:17] Speaker 19: driving and listening to whatever.
[23:19] Speaker 5: Aretha Franklin would come.
[23:20] Speaker 19: On and she would say, oh, she's singing the Glee song,
[23:24] Speaker 19: and I was like, Wow, this show is just like
[23:27] Speaker 19: expanding people's understanding. So that's magical is also a good word.
[23:32] Speaker 19: But the first word that came to mine was thrilled,
[23:35] Speaker 19: Like just I loved everything about it, and I still
[23:40] Speaker 19: do and very proud of it. It's it's on Hulu,
[23:44] Speaker 19: it's on Disney Plus, it is for Everyone who's listening
[23:47] Speaker 19: obviously already knows that, but that was important.
[23:51] Speaker 5: For us to make sure.
[23:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, I love him, I mean again in all departments,
[23:56] Speaker 2: like a thrill ride, a career highlight, for so many
[23:59] Speaker 2: different reasons. Okay, the unofficial thirteenth member of the Glee Club,
[24:04] Speaker 2: camera operator extraordinary, the man who had the steady cam
[24:08] Speaker 2: on him and all those musical numbers. Andrew Mitchell.
[24:12] Speaker 20: Oh my gosh, can I go back to the who
[24:16] Speaker 20: is the lady who started it?
[24:18] Speaker 15: It was.
[24:20] Speaker 20: Here we go, Lillian badler By. It's very do yes,
[24:24] Speaker 20: we is about opening yourself up to joy.
[24:26] Speaker 4: Can I steal that?
[24:27] Speaker 1: You can totally steal that.
[24:31] Speaker 20: My memory is not very good, but I always remember
[24:33] Speaker 20: how I feel when I meet somebody, when I do
[24:36] Speaker 20: a project or something like that. I don't remember some
[24:39] Speaker 20: of the details, but I always remember how I feel.
[24:41] Speaker 20: And at the end of that show, it felt so good,
[24:46] Speaker 20: But then it also felt like this can't end right,
[24:50] Speaker 20: like I don't want this to go away.
[24:52] Speaker 21: It was hard, right, wrong, It's hard but so worth it,
[24:56] Speaker 21: and most things that are worth it are hard to do.
[24:59] Speaker 21: So it was, you know, maybe like warmth, warmth in
[25:03] Speaker 21: my heart? Oh boy, and just a ton of good memories,
[25:07] Speaker 21: you know, because all the bad stuff is just like
[25:10] Speaker 21: I just remember that yeah stuff, you know totally.
[25:14] Speaker 4: It was like we went to sunder camp together and
[25:15] Speaker 4: it lasted six.
[25:16] Speaker 1: Really long time. Yeah that's right, a really long, awesome
[25:19] Speaker 1: summer camp that you never want to end, right, Okay.
[25:23] Speaker 1: One of our more recent episodes and one of our
[25:27] Speaker 1: favorite episodes, and my brother actually wrote and texting him
[25:31] Speaker 1: was like, this one was so good. One of it's
[25:34] Speaker 1: it's one of our favorite people as well, Brad Beeker,
[25:37] Speaker 1: the director and executive producer.
[25:40] Speaker 22: So many faks, but honestly, it's like pride.
[25:49] Speaker 23: You know.
[25:49] Speaker 22: It's like I just I'll always look back and I
[25:56] Speaker 22: feel so proud that I got to spend that time
[26:01] Speaker 22: with you, right, to spend that time with you know,
[26:06] Speaker 22: it was like it truly, you know, it defined my life.
[26:12] Speaker 22: You know, I learned so much. And it's like there
[26:17] Speaker 22: were horrible things and there were great things, yep, but
[26:24] Speaker 22: we were all in it together for better or worse,
[26:29] Speaker 22: you know. And when I look back, and you know,
[26:33] Speaker 22: it's like for all, for whatever whatever you thought or
[26:36] Speaker 22: whatever the it's like when you look back at what
[26:39] Speaker 22: we did, I'm just so proud of it.
[26:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, you should be.
[26:45] Speaker 2: I mean, we all are now to bring it on home.
[26:49] Speaker 2: Sue Sylvester, herself, Jane Lynch.
[26:53] Speaker 9: It was a well.
[26:56] Speaker 2: Moment in time. It was.
[26:58] Speaker 23: It was one beautiful, perfect moment yep, where the everything
[27:06] Speaker 23: kind of it was kind of lightning and bottle. Yeah,
[27:09] Speaker 23: and I remember we knew we were breathing rarefied air. Yeah, yeah,
[27:14] Speaker 23: I remember Ryan saying that to us at some point.
[27:16] Speaker 23: You said, you know, the most important thing for you
[27:19] Speaker 23: guys to realize right now is that we are all
[27:22] Speaker 23: breathing rarefied air. This doesn't happen because of the impact
[27:25] Speaker 23: that the show had, right and.
[27:27] Speaker 2: The good it had right, and boy, we could use.
[27:31] Speaker 23: Something like it now where everybody It was kind of
[27:37] Speaker 23: a microcosm of the world, even for adults. It's like
[27:41] Speaker 23: the McKinley high being metaphor for the world where it's
[27:44] Speaker 23: cruel and he gets slush, he's in the face, and
[27:47] Speaker 23: there's groups and factions. Again it's each other. It's very tribal.
[27:51] Speaker 23: Then you get into that choir room and everybody's got
[27:54] Speaker 23: your back, and there's nothing more beautiful than raising your
[27:58] Speaker 23: voice in the song together and making a joyful noise.
[28:01] Speaker 23: It's where you do it together. It's where the football player,
[28:05] Speaker 23: uh and the kid and the little nerd in the
[28:07] Speaker 23: wheelchair can be palsed, where the gay kid can be
[28:11] Speaker 23: pals with the football player and the greaser. You know,
[28:14] Speaker 23: Mark Salling's character was could be so dark and yet
[28:18] Speaker 23: in that you know, when he was winning the same
[28:20] Speaker 23: thing with the guy, when he was with us, there
[28:22] Speaker 23: was something about him that was lighter.
[28:24] Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's beautifully said.
[28:28] Speaker 1: Yeah, good one, that's really beautiful and true. Jane inform.
[28:32] Speaker 24: Yeah, do you love Sex in the City. Now you
[28:39] Speaker 24: can relive the magic from the very beginning, every date,
[28:43] Speaker 24: every heartbreak, every Cosmopolitan with me Kristin Davis aka Charlotte
[28:49] Speaker 24: Yorick on my podcast Are You a Charlotte? I'm rediscovering
[28:53] Speaker 24: the show that we all love so much, episode by episode.
[28:56] Speaker 24: Open your free iHeartRadio app search Are You a Charlotte
[29:00] Speaker 24: and listen now.
[29:08] Speaker 1: Okay, Kevin's it's the time, Jenna, It's time before we go.
[29:14] Speaker 2: Jenna, Oh my god, I need to ask you also,
[29:19] Speaker 2: I'm not one who asks people this. I would also
[29:22] Speaker 2: like to say shout out to you for creating this.
[29:25] Speaker 2: This was your idea this one. What is the feeling?
[29:29] Speaker 19: Lee?
[29:30] Speaker 2: Yes, didn't you if I remember correctly, didn't you just
[29:34] Speaker 2: ask somebody that in like one of our first episodes, like, oh,
[29:38] Speaker 2: that's a good question, Jenna, and it stuck.
[29:43] Speaker 1: I actually don't know, And I don't want to take
[29:45] Speaker 1: credit for it because I don't know that it was mine.
[29:48] Speaker 2: It was yours. And so Jenna, I'm asking you, what
[29:51] Speaker 2: is the feeling that Glee leaves you with?
[29:53] Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, it's kind of hard to pick one
[30:00] Speaker 1: after hearing all of our incredible friends and family, like
[30:07] Speaker 1: one word. You know, friends and family have like kind
[30:10] Speaker 1: of given us all. But if I were to scrape
[30:13] Speaker 1: that all away and forget that we ever asked anybody,
[30:16] Speaker 1: I think if somebody asked me that question out like
[30:19] Speaker 1: for the first time, the truth is, I think I
[30:25] Speaker 1: would say, like extreme appreciation and deep appreciation for everything
[30:33] Speaker 1: that it has given me, because not only was it
[30:41] Speaker 1: so formative and shaped who I am today and shaped
[30:49] Speaker 1: how I approach things, how I approach friendships, how I
[30:53] Speaker 1: approach work, how I and then also how grateful I
[31:00] Speaker 1: am for the opportunities it granted for the people and
[31:06] Speaker 1: for the family, for all the doors it opened for
[31:11] Speaker 1: all the people I met. It really was just such
[31:17] Speaker 1: a an incredible experience, highs and lows, like no matter
[31:22] Speaker 1: what the challenges were, it's a part of me forever.
[31:25] Speaker 1: And so I think just extra deep gratitude and appreciation
[31:32] Speaker 1: for the gift that that it was and will continue
[31:38] Speaker 1: to be. I think I have this running joke.
[31:42] Speaker 5: With my.
[31:44] Speaker 1: Team where I'm working, and uh, it's Glee. Glee is
[31:50] Speaker 1: the gift that keeps on giving for better, better for words,
[31:59] Speaker 1: But it's true, you know it is. It really is.
[32:02] Speaker 1: Just people are like, oh my god, I love that
[32:03] Speaker 1: show and just the new generations of people. I saw
[32:07] Speaker 1: my friend Daniel day Kim recently and he was like,
[32:09] Speaker 1: it was the first show that our son became like
[32:12] Speaker 1: so obsessed with and and like never turned off the
[32:14] Speaker 1: TV and you were just always in our living room
[32:16] Speaker 1: and like it's just so powerful. So I'm just I'm
[32:19] Speaker 1: extremely grateful. Kevin. What does the feeling that leaves you with.
[32:26] Speaker 2: I'd rather not say.
[32:28] Speaker 5: I think.
[32:30] Speaker 2: Pride and family are up there for sure, because I
[32:36] Speaker 2: really like, close my eyes and think about the experience
[32:38] Speaker 2: of the show. It's definitely family. Being on set with everybody,
[32:43] Speaker 2: every single day that experience, but I think, ultimately similar
[32:51] Speaker 2: to you, I feel just honored to have been like
[32:56] Speaker 2: a part of it. It feels like such a gift
[33:00] Speaker 2: and the fact that, echoing everything you just said, that
[33:03] Speaker 2: we got to experience so many ones in a lifetime
[33:08] Speaker 2: type things. You get to be on a show that
[33:10] Speaker 2: you love doing, you get to be on a show
[33:11] Speaker 2: that the crew loves doing. You get to be on
[33:14] Speaker 2: a show that means so much to people that we
[33:18] Speaker 2: could go on tour in different parts of the world
[33:20] Speaker 2: and they knew us and loved the show, and it
[33:24] Speaker 2: wasn't about any of us as real people. It was
[33:29] Speaker 2: about seeing those characters go through those experiences with that music,
[33:34] Speaker 2: what that meant to people, And it always felt so
[33:37] Speaker 2: much bigger than ourselves, yes, which was really special, And
[33:42] Speaker 2: I think we were all so young and green and
[33:44] Speaker 2: just happy to have a job that you can never
[33:47] Speaker 2: in your wildest dreams dream of anything like that happening.
[33:50] Speaker 2: And so I feel extremely honored to be cast on
[33:54] Speaker 2: the show, to have been able to meet the best
[33:58] Speaker 2: friends I'll ever have, and to you know, sort of
[34:04] Speaker 2: it was such a specific time in pop culture, and
[34:09] Speaker 2: having grown up obsessed with pop culture, it was so
[34:12] Speaker 2: strange and surreal to be a part of something that
[34:15] Speaker 2: was also pop culture at that moment and sort of
[34:21] Speaker 2: the ushering, you know, the end of one era, the
[34:25] Speaker 2: ushering end of another era, transitional period I think in
[34:28] Speaker 2: our culture and all that was happening at the same time,
[34:33] Speaker 2: and we got to experience that. And it's such a
[34:37] Speaker 2: gift now to be able to look back on it
[34:38] Speaker 2: with you and to watch it, to have new people
[34:41] Speaker 2: finding it. The music still is out there, the episodes
[34:44] Speaker 2: are still out there. So I'm just honored that. I'm
[34:46] Speaker 2: proud of the show. I'm never embarrassed by it. Yeah,
[34:51] Speaker 2: I will.
[34:51] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's such just a gift. Really the word I
[34:57] Speaker 1: think we both said the same thing. It's like, what
[34:59] Speaker 1: a what a gift? And I think you also had
[35:02] Speaker 1: a point that I feel what I didn't say, Like,
[35:05] Speaker 1: I just what a gift to have to be a
[35:09] Speaker 1: part of something that not only creatively is fulfilling and
[35:15] Speaker 1: personally fulfilling connection wise, but then to also be able
[35:20] Speaker 1: to be making a mark on history culturally and then
[35:24] Speaker 1: also on people individually, like all the listeners here, all
[35:29] Speaker 1: of our fans, all the new fans who were coming in,
[35:31] Speaker 1: all the old fans who were there from day one
[35:33] Speaker 1: like to know to like we never forgot I think
[35:38] Speaker 1: even in like the darkest of like the Glee, you know,
[35:42] Speaker 1: hard working bubble that we were in, to have to
[35:46] Speaker 1: remember that we were doing this for something so much
[35:48] Speaker 1: bigger than ourselves. Was like we were making a difference
[35:52] Speaker 1: in people's lives, and that was like, so it kept
[35:56] Speaker 1: us moving forward.
[35:58] Speaker 2: The mission change. Yeah, it's like, you know, we made
[36:01] Speaker 2: the first thirteen and nobody had seen anything but the pilot.
[36:04] Speaker 2: It was like, let's we want to make the show
[36:05] Speaker 2: that we love doing in our little vacuum. And then
[36:09] Speaker 2: when it came out and clearly meant so. You know,
[36:12] Speaker 2: some people just wanted it for pure unadulterated laughter and
[36:17] Speaker 2: snark and dark comedy. Great. Some people wanted to just
[36:20] Speaker 2: to watch music and turn off their brain. Great. But
[36:23] Speaker 2: also some people were watching it with their families, trying
[36:27] Speaker 2: to discuss their families more about themselves through the show
[36:31] Speaker 2: and things like that, and that is something you hope
[36:36] Speaker 2: will happen, but you can never bank on the public,
[36:41] Speaker 2: you know, people responding to something in the way you
[36:43] Speaker 2: hope it does until it is out there and it
[36:46] Speaker 2: far exceeded everybody's expectations, Brian's included, and so a gift.
[36:52] Speaker 2: Were grateful to have been a part of it. We're
[36:54] Speaker 2: grateful to all of our incredible guests who came on
[36:56] Speaker 2: this show over the years sharing their beautiful story and
[37:01] Speaker 2: feelings with us. Thank you to Ryan Murphy who started
[37:04] Speaker 2: this off with us three years ago, setting the tone
[37:09] Speaker 2: and opening up that honest and raw dialogue for everybody
[37:13] Speaker 2: to feel safe and sort of our group therapy together
[37:18] Speaker 2: in this. And so thank you so much for just
[37:21] Speaker 2: everybody who came on here and taking the trip down
[37:23] Speaker 2: memory lane with us.
