[0:01] Speaker 1: And That's what You Really Missed with Jenna.
[0:04] Speaker 2: And Kevin an iHeartRadio podcast.
[0:09] Speaker 3: Welcome to and That's What You Really miss podcast. It's
[0:12] Speaker 3: recap time.
[0:14] Speaker 2: Yes, I'm very excited for this, Jenna.
[0:18] Speaker 3: So am I and you guys really wanted this one,
[0:22] Speaker 3: so we were very excited to bring this one. Put
[0:27] Speaker 3: this one on the list, bring it, Yes, added to
[0:30] Speaker 3: the added to the list.
[0:31] Speaker 2: She has a way with words ladies and gentlemen.
[0:33] Speaker 1: No really, I was like, what am I like? What
[0:35] Speaker 1: do I want to.
[0:35] Speaker 2: Say right now? Because in the world of Glee, this
[0:39] Speaker 2: is the closest thing yes in movie form. This is
[0:45] Speaker 2: pitch Perfect, which originally premiered October fifth, twenty twelve, right
[0:50] Speaker 2: in the middle of all the Glee madness.
[0:53] Speaker 3: Okay, we're going to talk about oh about it in
[0:56] Speaker 3: the news.
[0:57] Speaker 1: At this time.
[0:58] Speaker 3: The number the number one song was One More Night
[1:00] Speaker 3: by Maroon five.
[1:03] Speaker 2: The number one movie was Hotel Transylvania.
[1:07] Speaker 3: It opened at number three, behind Perfect, Yes, pitch Perfect, sorry,
[1:12] Speaker 3: behind that and Taken two.
[1:14] Speaker 1: I did not see Hotel Transylvania.
[1:16] Speaker 2: Neither did I taste it. Taken to no.
[1:21] Speaker 3: Ge News this week because there was Glee News Season four,
[1:24] Speaker 3: Episode four the break of what a big one, damn,
[1:30] Speaker 3: and then Glee then went on a month long hiatus.
[1:33] Speaker 1: I can't believe they did that to you, guys.
[1:36] Speaker 3: When the next episode, The Role You Were Born to Play,
[1:39] Speaker 3: airing on November.
[1:40] Speaker 2: This was just like a really gay, nerdy month for everyone,
[1:44] Speaker 2: the breakup happening and then Pitch Perfect coming out. Oh
[1:48] Speaker 2: my gosh, Like, how many people did we force to
[1:51] Speaker 2: be gay with this? Wow? This is wonderful? No, I
[1:56] Speaker 2: know the agenda is alive and well do.
[1:59] Speaker 1: You remember seeing this in the theater or for the
[2:01] Speaker 1: first time? Do you remember?
[2:03] Speaker 2: Look, I was not into it. I think I shared
[2:09] Speaker 2: a lot of the same sentiment that I did with
[2:10] Speaker 2: Smash as I did with Pitch.
[2:12] Speaker 1: Did you see it though? Or you didn't want to
[2:13] Speaker 1: see it?
[2:14] Speaker 2: I didn't want to see it interesting because I don't
[2:18] Speaker 2: know what that was like, I'm just being honest here.
[2:21] Speaker 1: Yeah, I added this like really a version.
[2:24] Speaker 2: In a version or like competitive spirit where I'm like,
[2:26] Speaker 2: you guys are benefiting off of like what Ryan and co.
[2:31] Speaker 2: Have created here, Like there's mashups, there's current music as
[2:36] Speaker 2: opposed to being like there is room for everybody and
[2:39] Speaker 2: like more and more and it's all great and positive.
[2:43] Speaker 2: So I was being a little Debbie downer about it
[2:47] Speaker 2: or something.
[2:47] Speaker 1: I don't know. That's fair, that's fair.
[2:49] Speaker 3: That makes total sense to me. I think the reason
[2:51] Speaker 3: I saw was partially because of Skylar. Yeah, and can
[2:57] Speaker 3: we talk about the hero Ben Platt, Tiny Blue Pat
[3:01] Speaker 3: Ben Platt before it was Ben Platt. But I remember
[3:07] Speaker 3: seeing this. I don't remember if it was in the
[3:09] Speaker 3: theater or if it was a screening or if it
[3:12] Speaker 3: was and I must have been because we weren't streaming
[3:16] Speaker 3: movies like that yet, so it must have been in
[3:18] Speaker 3: the theater, and I do remember, I don't know if
[3:23] Speaker 3: it was just TV then I had the version too,
[3:25] Speaker 3: because like I remember seeing this for the first time,
[3:29] Speaker 3: and as I was watching it last night, like it
[3:31] Speaker 3: jogged my memory like it was the first time I
[3:35] Speaker 3: had seen a musical on screen, a musical genre, you know,
[3:41] Speaker 3: piece of film, TV world again, she has a way
[3:46] Speaker 3: with words people, and thinking, this is the first time
[3:52] Speaker 3: I think that they've got it right.
[3:54] Speaker 1: Yeah. I was like the tone, the like they were
[3:59] Speaker 1: making fun of themselves. It was campy.
[4:02] Speaker 3: It was like it was slightly satirical in some ways.
[4:07] Speaker 3: I think it was like a little dark, and it
[4:11] Speaker 3: was like, in the context of the world in which
[4:14] Speaker 3: they were competing, like it was all ugly but not
[4:18] Speaker 3: it actually felt more realistic thingly in some ways with
[4:22] Speaker 3: the competitions and the things. But again like you come
[4:26] Speaker 3: out of the gate with somebody like vomiting on stage.
[4:29] Speaker 3: Like they set the tone for what this was right.
[4:32] Speaker 3: This was not going to be a serious musical show
[4:36] Speaker 3: or film. And the characters were developed and well it
[4:44] Speaker 3: stilled they needed to be and you know, I was like, oh,
[4:49] Speaker 3: you know, this is gonna be fun. And then has
[4:51] Speaker 3: got into it with the whole like breakfast coupling, and
[4:53] Speaker 3: like Skyler really just freaking selling it.
[4:56] Speaker 1: I mean, my god, he really sold it.
[5:00] Speaker 2: The whole time. I'm just like, Skyler, honestly is the best.
[5:03] Speaker 1: Part of this entire movie sold it for me.
[5:06] Speaker 2: I don't know what it is, but Skyler can straddle
[5:09] Speaker 2: that line of the campiness the pop ness of it,
[5:14] Speaker 2: but also just being genuine and grounded. Like every time
[5:17] Speaker 2: he was in a scene, I was like, oh this,
[5:20] Speaker 2: I feel like he and Brittany Snow especially like we're
[5:23] Speaker 2: really nailing this movie.
[5:26] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, it was like grounded yet so elevated.
[5:30] Speaker 3: And and then you know, like of course at a
[5:33] Speaker 3: camp is her character is just kind of like beyond
[5:36] Speaker 3: oh yeah, but you have these other characters like Skyler
[5:39] Speaker 3: and especially Brittany, like they were really good. And then
[5:43] Speaker 3: Rebel Wilson also like one of her earlier films, right.
[5:49] Speaker 2: And they like you can tell like they're just letting
[5:51] Speaker 2: her play, Like there are so many takes where like
[5:54] Speaker 2: it just she just goes on and on and I'm like, oh,
[5:57] Speaker 2: they all they must have all been dying just filming.
[6:00] Speaker 1: Yeah, like a full party with her. She's so funny.
[6:05] Speaker 1: I feel like so funny.
[6:06] Speaker 2: What I really feel like that you can tell this
[6:09] Speaker 2: at the same time as Glee is like the things
[6:12] Speaker 2: that have not aged well are the exact same things, yes,
[6:16] Speaker 2: like the jokes and characterizations of stereotypes of certain people,
[6:23] Speaker 2: So are the exact same, for better or for worse
[6:27] Speaker 2: or for worse. And it's like, oh yeah, this is
[6:30] Speaker 2: definitely the same time as Glee, you know where.
[6:34] Speaker 3: But the music and the music too, I'm curious to
[6:37] Speaker 3: hear what you thought about What did you think about
[6:40] Speaker 3: like the production and the music, like given that it
[6:43] Speaker 3: was a cappella, Like I I really liked the sound,
[6:47] Speaker 3: and I thought it was it was done well, and
[6:49] Speaker 3: I thought it was They sounded good, especially Anna Kendric
[6:53] Speaker 3: sounded really good. Her tone sounded so good on all
[6:56] Speaker 3: these songs and of course klor But like I thought,
[7:02] Speaker 3: every time something came on this, like when they started
[7:07] Speaker 3: doing a song, like I started to get chills and
[7:08] Speaker 3: I was like, oh, they got me, Like the music
[7:11] Speaker 3: alone got me. Even if the story was like weaning
[7:14] Speaker 3: a little bit, like it brought me right back in.
[7:17] Speaker 2: Because they were not afraid. The whole movie in the
[7:20] Speaker 2: story is like anti cringe in the way of like
[7:25] Speaker 2: these kids unabashedly love what they're doing.
[7:29] Speaker 1: Yeah, And so like.
[7:30] Speaker 2: When you're on the bus and you just start singing
[7:36] Speaker 2: and you see Anna Kendrick sort of speaking for the
[7:38] Speaker 2: audience watching of like I can't believe this is happening,
[7:42] Speaker 2: and I kind of want to join in because it
[7:44] Speaker 2: is like kind of irresistible where that works every time
[7:50] Speaker 2: they start doing it, because like it doesn't seem forced,
[7:54] Speaker 2: like these kids are just dorks and the best way
[7:57] Speaker 2: possible and.
[7:58] Speaker 3: The iconic shower scene Brittany Snow like literally like hunting
[8:03] Speaker 3: and Kendrick is so funny and so quintessentially that movie like.
[8:08] Speaker 2: But also like another shower scene with somebody discovering somebody singing.
[8:12] Speaker 3: Well, yes, that's right, but insane. She looked insane doing it,
[8:16] Speaker 3: and it was so funny to me. I thought, it's
[8:20] Speaker 3: one of my favorite scenes in the whole film.
[8:22] Speaker 2: Brittany Snow, I feel like does not get enough credit
[8:26] Speaker 2: for I don't know what was going on the American
[8:28] Speaker 2: Dreams set, because her and Vanessa both have the same
[8:31] Speaker 2: ability to do like these really heightened things. Yes, like
[8:36] Speaker 2: her being completely naked in front of somebody else and
[8:39] Speaker 2: like going it is deadpan, it's serious like they but
[8:44] Speaker 2: they both can do it all.
[8:46] Speaker 3: Yes, yes, the versatile but yeah, I think they just
[8:50] Speaker 3: fully believe and are fully committed. Like Vanessa Lunjie's like
[8:54] Speaker 3: doesn't do anything in her whole life half ass, and
[8:59] Speaker 3: I think Brittany is probably long the same lines, like yeah,
[9:02] Speaker 3: it's like nothing is half It's always one hundred and
[9:07] Speaker 3: ninety percent.
[9:08] Speaker 2: So if you haven't seen this movie, here's a little
[9:11] Speaker 2: recap of Like the official universal summary is college freshman
[9:16] Speaker 2: Becca with one Si joins the bard In bellas the
[9:19] Speaker 2: school's all girl a cappella singing group, as Becca leads
[9:22] Speaker 2: them out of their traditional arrangements and perfect harmonies into
[9:26] Speaker 2: all new mashups they fight to climb their way to
[9:28] Speaker 2: the top of the college music competitions. That was the
[9:34] Speaker 2: other thing, like they you know, you brought up how
[9:35] Speaker 2: good the music is utilized. I thought the arrangements were
[9:39] Speaker 2: really special. Everyone sounds great, Like how it was recorded
[9:43] Speaker 2: was really wonderful. The transitions from speaking into music was
[9:47] Speaker 2: all really good. And they used so much music so much,
[9:52] Speaker 2: and it's all hits, like huge songs.
[9:55] Speaker 1: And just like snippets and things in the right amount.
[9:58] Speaker 1: Like I think with the.
[9:59] Speaker 3: Akapa element to it, you don't have to do full songs.
[10:04] Speaker 1: You can do these little pieces.
[10:06] Speaker 3: They can they do the riff off like in the
[10:09] Speaker 3: in the pool, just touch points of like oh, just
[10:13] Speaker 3: let me bring this person in and this person who
[10:15] Speaker 3: likes this eighties music and this person who likes you know,
[10:19] Speaker 3: I don't know, Like it was just it ran the
[10:22] Speaker 3: gap and it was so.
[10:25] Speaker 1: Something for everybody. Yeah, and different. So we did have
[10:30] Speaker 1: Anna Camp.
[10:30] Speaker 3: On Glee very early on as the guest star, I
[10:34] Speaker 3: do remember, and ironically she didn't sing on it. She
[10:37] Speaker 3: was the judge for sectionals. But I remember us meeting
[10:41] Speaker 3: her very briefly and you being like true Blood.
[10:45] Speaker 2: Yes, because she had just been she showed up on
[10:48] Speaker 2: true Wood and just like was incredible, so so good,
[10:53] Speaker 2: insane and so good.
[10:55] Speaker 3: And then of course we have Skylar Aston, who is
[10:57] Speaker 3: also on Glee. Yes, our friend, and he was a
[11:02] Speaker 3: speller recently.
[11:03] Speaker 1: Right.
[11:04] Speaker 2: Also, I know we talked about Zoe's a shordinary playlist.
[11:09] Speaker 2: Anybody who can show up in a scene that is
[11:14] Speaker 2: as awkward as singing in the backseat of a car,
[11:17] Speaker 2: you know, of breaking into song like that and have
[11:22] Speaker 2: it not be uncomfortable to watch is so impressive. I
[11:28] Speaker 2: will never know that feeling of this skill to be
[11:30] Speaker 2: able to do that. And also him just like you know,
[11:33] Speaker 2: in a scene with Ben when they see the acapella
[11:35] Speaker 2: group for the first time and Ben's like, oh, can
[11:38] Speaker 2: you sing? And he just starts singing and he's wonderful.
[11:41] Speaker 2: And by the way, so Skyler came to see spelling me.
[11:43] Speaker 1: The other day. Yeah, he was a speller.
[11:46] Speaker 2: Yeah, but I was just like talking to him about
[11:47] Speaker 2: his voice and like I was saying, how he's a
[11:51] Speaker 2: tenor and he's like, no, no, I'm not a tenor.
[11:54] Speaker 2: I'm sorry. Every time he opens his mouth to sing
[11:57] Speaker 2: in this movie, he has this beautifully puer voice.
[12:01] Speaker 1: I do love that when he was like since you began,
[12:04] Speaker 1: he was like in the middle of it.
[12:05] Speaker 3: I don't know if that was Skyler or if that
[12:07] Speaker 3: was the character, but he was like, wow, this is
[12:09] Speaker 3: high yeah.
[12:10] Speaker 2: Like so I was one of my favorite bits of
[12:13] Speaker 2: the whole movie.
[12:14] Speaker 1: He's a tenor, but are you kidding?
[12:15] Speaker 2: I don't know, but I love his voice. There was
[12:19] Speaker 2: also John Michael Higgins was one of the commentators, which
[12:24] Speaker 2: is also just oh great. He was also in Glee.
[12:30] Speaker 2: He was in season one episode nineteen dream On. He
[12:32] Speaker 2: played Russell, who was part of Brian Ryan choqueer conversion.
[12:36] Speaker 3: Group We Love We Love Yeah.
[12:39] Speaker 2: Also fun fact, during the riff off scene, one of
[12:41] Speaker 2: the categories on the wheel was songs ruined by Glee.
[12:46] Speaker 1: I want to like make the you know what I mean.
[12:49] Speaker 2: I wish. I think it's probably like you know, we
[12:51] Speaker 2: were filming all the time and didn't have time to
[12:53] Speaker 2: like go do things, But I do wish we like
[12:55] Speaker 2: embraced pitch perfect more like if this happened in twenty
[13:01] Speaker 2: twenty six, there would have been like a concerted effort
[13:04] Speaker 2: to like do things together, you know, like put us
[13:08] Speaker 2: together in some ways. And I do wish because like
[13:12] Speaker 2: it's great that this really niche thing like was being
[13:17] Speaker 2: produced on Fox TV and by Universal as a movie.
[13:22] Speaker 2: Like that's just wonderful.
[13:24] Speaker 3: Everything we had said in all of our it's just
[13:27] Speaker 3: like bringing more music to people, more artists to people,
[13:31] Speaker 3: more exposure for these artists. It was just it's I
[13:35] Speaker 3: don't know, it's all it's all good.
[13:37] Speaker 2: It's all show I show Elizabeth Banks, because like this
[13:41] Speaker 2: was the second production that her production company she produced,
[13:51] Speaker 2: picks them well, and she you know, she said in
[13:55] Speaker 2: interviews that, like there was very little room for error
[13:57] Speaker 2: because this was made for a relatively small budget seventeen million,
[14:01] Speaker 2: which I do find really shocking because to get some
[14:04] Speaker 2: music rights alone is very very expensive. But on a
[14:08] Speaker 2: seventeen million dollar budget, this made one hundred and fifteen
[14:10] Speaker 2: million dollars. And then she went on to direct the sequels,
[14:14] Speaker 2: which is just amazing. Get a girl, Yeah, And like
[14:18] Speaker 2: her type of comedy obviously is all over this, and
[14:21] Speaker 2: it's like she really, I don't know, fought for it
[14:27] Speaker 2: and found a home for it, which is also just great.
[14:30] Speaker 2: Like love that she's using her power to do something.
[14:35] Speaker 3: They like, Yeah, they're the two of them together. And
[14:41] Speaker 3: the quipie lines that they had crazy very Glee, very Glee.
[14:48] Speaker 1: It felt like Ian. No, it just felt like Ian
[14:51] Speaker 1: wrote those.
[14:53] Speaker 3: But yet like it was, they were so clever and
[14:57] Speaker 3: so well, I don't know, it was just really well executed. Okay,
[15:09] Speaker 3: so just an overview like a pitch perfect premiere. In
[15:13] Speaker 3: twenty twelve, it became a hit. It was the first
[15:16] Speaker 3: feature for director Jason Moore. Wow, very good, the big
[15:22] Speaker 3: it's a it's a different kind of film to take
[15:24] Speaker 3: on for your victorial debut, and.
[15:28] Speaker 1: A screenwriter k Canon as well.
[15:30] Speaker 2: The soundtracks went platinum. Oh it was the best selling
[15:33] Speaker 2: soundtrack of twenty thirteen.
[15:37] Speaker 1: Wow. Wow.
[15:39] Speaker 3: And I will say, like, I think that was also
[15:42] Speaker 3: like people were getting Glee, right, we were. They were
[15:46] Speaker 3: being they're like used to getting that kind of music. Yes,
[15:50] Speaker 3: it was on the charts.
[15:51] Speaker 2: I mean they said some of the casts even said that.
[15:53] Speaker 2: I think the success of Glee helped to show the
[15:56] Speaker 2: movie at Greenlit totally.
[15:57] Speaker 1: But like that's great, Yes, that's where we're here for. Yeah,
[16:02] Speaker 1: well let's open some more doors.
[16:03] Speaker 2: Well that's what's crazy to me is like I just
[16:06] Speaker 2: kept being reminded not to toot or on horn, but
[16:09] Speaker 2: I just kept being reminded of like how how like
[16:18] Speaker 2: Odds defying Glee wasn't so many ways, and like how
[16:22] Speaker 2: Ryan was able to create this very specific type of
[16:28] Speaker 2: show with mashups with popular music, yes, and get the
[16:32] Speaker 2: general public to be really into it. It's like, I mean,
[16:36] Speaker 2: like we sold something like fifty million singles or something
[16:39] Speaker 2: like that, and like that's absurd and then to you know,
[16:47] Speaker 2: get the public's appetite wet for that and be able
[16:50] Speaker 2: to thent A movie franchise like this, three movies about
[16:53] Speaker 2: a cappella singing. It's just it's wonderful, really, I think.
[17:00] Speaker 2: And I think the thing that really makes it work
[17:03] Speaker 2: is that they're both, you know, self referential and self deprecating. Yeah,
[17:08] Speaker 2: because it is such like a silly I wonder if,
[17:11] Speaker 2: like you.
[17:11] Speaker 3: If today, if somebody was trying to create something like
[17:13] Speaker 3: this again, if this would be the time. I don't
[17:16] Speaker 3: think it is, and I don't think people would. I mean,
[17:18] Speaker 3: it always is the time for me, but I just
[17:21] Speaker 3: don't think that in the time of what's being put
[17:24] Speaker 3: out there and what's being made and what kind of
[17:26] Speaker 3: risks are being taken, Like, I don't think right now,
[17:29] Speaker 3: if this were to be made like it would be like.
[17:32] Speaker 1: I don't know that anybody would green light it right
[17:34] Speaker 1: right now.
[17:35] Speaker 2: I don't know. In terms of like how music is consumed. Well,
[17:39] Speaker 2: back then, yes, the sales were hotter because it was
[17:42] Speaker 2: more concentrated. Yes, Like streaming wasn't as big as it
[17:45] Speaker 2: is now. Yes, and like when people get desensitized to like,
[17:51] Speaker 2: oh yeah they're doing accapila, like they're doing mashups. We
[17:54] Speaker 2: know what this is sort of going to be. But
[17:56] Speaker 2: like cups for example, was like a runaway because that
[18:00] Speaker 2: was a little different.
[18:01] Speaker 3: Yes, and that was actually based on her audition. So
[18:05] Speaker 3: instead of a typical pop song, she's saying a folk
[18:08] Speaker 3: tune while creating a rhythm using a plastic cup in
[18:11] Speaker 3: her audition genius something she learned on YouTube.
[18:14] Speaker 1: So genius.
[18:15] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well I see. I still think I don't
[18:21] Speaker 2: think you're going to get you know, like a soundtrack
[18:24] Speaker 2: to sell a million copies or like we were selling
[18:26] Speaker 2: millions of singles. I don't think you're going to get
[18:30] Speaker 2: that type of response anymore. I don't think that's possible
[18:34] Speaker 2: because of the landscape. But I think something like this
[18:37] Speaker 2: already at Greenlit today, there's absolutely like room for something
[18:41] Speaker 2: to have an unexpected like runaway hit like cups, like
[18:47] Speaker 2: something can go.
[18:47] Speaker 1: Big on TikTok or right.
[18:49] Speaker 2: I just think it's just a different way of us
[18:51] Speaker 2: consuming media. So I don't know. I think it would
[18:55] Speaker 2: still work today. I think we don't. We don't know
[18:57] Speaker 2: these things are going to work until they do. Like
[19:00] Speaker 2: it was a risk for this movie at green Lit.
[19:02] Speaker 2: It was a risk for gleating at green Lit. So
[19:05] Speaker 2: until you see it, you don't know that it's possible.
[19:08] Speaker 2: You know, now there's just going to be a billion
[19:10] Speaker 2: gay hockey shows because pat rivalry. Literally I have a friend,
[19:14] Speaker 2: by the way, this is how it's so cliche, how
[19:16] Speaker 2: this works.
[19:18] Speaker 1: What but.
[19:21] Speaker 2: These two friends of mine are a gay couple who
[19:23] Speaker 2: make excellent movies. The writers and directors, like they were
[19:26] Speaker 2: saying there, studios are going around now being like, what's
[19:29] Speaker 2: the next book that's like eat a rivalry with a
[19:32] Speaker 2: secret gay love story in sports. So this is like
[19:35] Speaker 2: how that works. So it's like proof of concept, Glee works,
[19:38] Speaker 2: pitch perfect. You know there's an audience for it.
[19:40] Speaker 3: Yeah, ye, So here we go yes, So okay, so
[19:45] Speaker 3: had you not seen this at all?
[19:46] Speaker 2: I had. I've seen it once before, okay.
[19:48] Speaker 1: Just not around the time that it came out.
[19:50] Speaker 2: No, eventually I got over myself during the pandemic. I'm
[19:55] Speaker 2: not sure, but it wasn't.
[19:57] Speaker 1: I haven't seen two or three.
[19:59] Speaker 2: Saying but this again makes me watch?
[20:06] Speaker 1: Yes? What what did? What did you think?
[20:12] Speaker 2: I really liked it, Like, okay, something's bummed me out,
[20:16] Speaker 2: Like what like the treatment of Asian characters.
[20:20] Speaker 1: I mean, you know, it's just like that they knew.
[20:25] Speaker 2: No, it's not fat Amy being called fat Amy like
[20:28] Speaker 2: that having to be the butt of the joke. I
[20:30] Speaker 2: get a different time. Trust me, I.
[20:32] Speaker 3: Understand, you know, I do like it's not appropriate and
[20:40] Speaker 3: it wasn't appropriate, and it still isn't. But the fact
[20:42] Speaker 3: that Anna Camp had said, did they do you call
[20:46] Speaker 3: yourself that? Like a lot of the time in this movie,
[20:49] Speaker 3: at least in this particular movie, like they call.
[20:52] Speaker 1: Themselves on it, which I was like, okay, we are
[20:55] Speaker 1: aware and we are well.
[20:58] Speaker 2: I was just like, how are you going to introduce
[21:00] Speaker 2: another Asian female character and also have her not speak?
[21:07] Speaker 2: I'm like, so so they they're not allowed to talk?
[21:11] Speaker 4: I know, it felt weirdly familiar, uh huh, and it's
[21:17] Speaker 4: like as if they didn't quite know what to do
[21:19] Speaker 4: with her, but they had to have her there.
[21:24] Speaker 2: And it was like the two tropes of like ones,
[21:26] Speaker 2: like presumably a good student, she's always doing homework, she
[21:31] Speaker 2: only hang out with Asian people, yep. And then you
[21:34] Speaker 2: have the other one who is like silent and like quirky,
[21:37] Speaker 2: cool girl.
[21:38] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, like gudies.
[21:45] Speaker 3: But these girls were very fun and I liked the
[21:48] Speaker 3: chemistry and the dynamic of the new you know group
[21:52] Speaker 3: and then also your favorite you mentioned your favorite little
[21:56] Speaker 3: bit with the auditions.
[21:58] Speaker 1: They get to pick the song and they that really good.
[22:02] Speaker 2: The audition sequence was phenomenal, really good, phenomenal. I also
[22:07] Speaker 2: shout out to Esterdeine, who was like the lesbian in it. Esterdeine,
[22:12] Speaker 2: by the way, is like an incredibly incredibly successful songwriter.
[22:19] Speaker 1: Oh really oh.
[22:21] Speaker 2: Like I kept thinking any of those songs that they
[22:23] Speaker 2: were singing could have been hers. She has written entire
[22:25] Speaker 2: albums for Rihanna, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Like Superbass, that's
[22:30] Speaker 2: her singing the hook she wrote super Bass.
[22:32] Speaker 1: I didn't know that.
[22:33] Speaker 2: Oh she's gigantic and so like wow, I love that
[22:37] Speaker 2: she was in this and also doing like Rihanna songs
[22:39] Speaker 2: that she didn't write.
[22:41] Speaker 1: Wow, like she's doing all.
[22:42] Speaker 2: These gigantic pop songs like girl, the songs you've written
[22:45] Speaker 2: are bigger than these songs.
[22:47] Speaker 1: Cuckuck cuckoo, like if you just go look up Esterdean. Yes, okay,
[22:52] Speaker 1: this is crazy, which I was doing.
[22:55] Speaker 2: In on Wikipedia, it says that she wrote a song
[22:57] Speaker 2: for me that is a typo I wish. I believe
[23:00] Speaker 2: it was the artist Kevin McCall. Kevin McHale.
[23:04] Speaker 1: Wow, that's funny too.
[23:06] Speaker 2: When did this happened? I've never met her, but a
[23:09] Speaker 2: big fan of hers, and she has written You could
[23:13] Speaker 2: have just used Esther Dean songs in a Pitch Perfect
[23:15] Speaker 2: movie and you still would have known every single song.
[23:19] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, okay, okay, okay.
[23:21] Speaker 2: I love that she was in this. I also like
[23:24] Speaker 2: all of their chemistry. All these girls are so wonderful together.
[23:28] Speaker 2: I also think the choreography was really great.
[23:30] Speaker 1: Yeah, shout out to a J.
[23:34] Speaker 2: Jones, Like it all felt really cohesive and just like
[23:40] Speaker 2: they all everybody got it. Yes, I was trying to
[23:43] Speaker 2: do too.
[23:44] Speaker 3: Much, I know, and I think that's like that was
[23:49] Speaker 3: probably the direction and you know, setting the tone properly,
[23:55] Speaker 3: but also what's on the page and I don't know
[23:58] Speaker 3: it's it's a very but.
[24:00] Speaker 1: Yeah, it felt very cohesive.
[24:02] Speaker 3: However they set that for them, everybody did get it
[24:06] Speaker 3: and like dropped right in.
[24:08] Speaker 1: And that's casting too, right, finding these people I loved.
[24:14] Speaker 3: I remember watching this for the first time, not expecting
[24:18] Speaker 3: Ben Platt to come out and sing at the end
[24:21] Speaker 3: like that. Also, no, so I didn't know this was Ben.
[24:26] Speaker 3: I didn't know who Ben was. This was pre Evan
[24:29] Speaker 3: Hanson and I knew Jonah, I didn't know Ben. And
[24:34] Speaker 3: I I remember watching this and just falling in love
[24:41] Speaker 3: with this kid being like the hero of the film. Yeah,
[24:47] Speaker 3: it was adorable. And then his voice it's very minimal,
[24:52] Speaker 3: but yet is he and the other ones I don't know.
[24:56] Speaker 2: We're gonna have to watch to find out, because I
[24:58] Speaker 2: know we're them what we know about Ben Platt? I
[25:05] Speaker 2: was like, oh, God, that's all we're getting his voice?
[25:09] Speaker 1: No, give me everything?
[25:13] Speaker 3: Uh but yes, I I you know from the jump
[25:18] Speaker 3: loved this film. The music elements and then the comedy
[25:23] Speaker 3: and the timing of all of these people was impeccable.
[25:26] Speaker 3: And that's editing too, but like also just the performances
[25:30] Speaker 3: that the timing was perfect. Everybody was just dropped. It
[25:40] Speaker 3: was so funny.
[25:41] Speaker 2: I think we think, like what you said, casting was
[25:43] Speaker 2: just perfect. Knowing now what rebel is possible, like what
[25:47] Speaker 2: her career has been, like obviously she is perfect. Annae Kendrick,
[25:52] Speaker 2: Anna Kendrick Skyler, Anna camp Ben, and Adam Devine all
[25:56] Speaker 2: walked that line. These are all experts at walking that
[26:00] Speaker 2: line of sincerity and camp like that's what they do.
[26:03] Speaker 2: That's all of their like that is their bread and butter,
[26:06] Speaker 2: and you put all them in a movie together and like,
[26:09] Speaker 2: of course it's going to work.
[26:11] Speaker 1: Yes, I would have loved to be in Pitch Perfect.
[26:13] Speaker 2: Same the whole time, I was like, I'm furious this
[26:16] Speaker 2: is my movie.
[26:17] Speaker 3: Yeah, I would love to be in this, Like of
[26:21] Speaker 3: course we get this.
[26:22] Speaker 2: This is our brand. Like Christopher Min's boss who was
[26:29] Speaker 2: mclove it and super Bad, He's in it, and I'm
[26:30] Speaker 2: just like, damn it.
[26:32] Speaker 1: I know, yeah, well that's you. Yeah.
[26:35] Speaker 2: I was like, obviously none of us could have been
[26:37] Speaker 2: in this, but I'm actually surprised none of us are.
[26:42] Speaker 1: Somebody some Bad.
[26:58] Speaker 3: What was your favorite to mashup song from the movie.
[27:03] Speaker 2: You know what, I'm furious. I kept wanting them to
[27:05] Speaker 2: do the titanium mashup that we.
[27:07] Speaker 1: Heard Thank You. So my favorite part.
[27:13] Speaker 3: Was in the competition when Anna decides that she's going
[27:19] Speaker 3: to go ahead and put.
[27:21] Speaker 1: Her song in.
[27:22] Speaker 2: She sounds in her tone, her voice is stupid.
[27:27] Speaker 1: Is so good.
[27:29] Speaker 3: I had chills and I was like, do not end
[27:32] Speaker 3: this song right now, please keep going. It was so
[27:35] Speaker 3: good that the mashup was good. She sounded perfect, it fits.
[27:39] Speaker 3: She sounded so good thin with them. It was like,
[27:42] Speaker 3: I was like, that's that's my favorite thing.
[27:44] Speaker 2: The mashups in this movie are incredible, really like really
[27:50] Speaker 2: really really really good, really good. I mean I think
[27:54] Speaker 2: I think they're winning performance at the end, Don't you
[27:59] Speaker 2: forget about Me? They did price tag, don't you forget
[28:03] Speaker 2: about me? Give me everything, just the way you are
[28:05] Speaker 2: part of the USA. Turn the beat around. I have that,
[28:09] Speaker 2: and it is happening flawlessly. You know, like when we
[28:11] Speaker 2: had Adam Manderson, where like Ryan would be like making
[28:15] Speaker 2: mashup between these two songs and they just don't go together.
[28:18] Speaker 2: I know, when you pick songs that do go together.
[28:22] Speaker 1: It was winning combo.
[28:24] Speaker 2: Yeah, it was unbelievable. I really liked No Diggity in
[28:28] Speaker 2: the riff Off. I really loved that. Was like that
[28:33] Speaker 2: was like one of those moments in the movie We're like, oh, chills,
[28:37] Speaker 2: and this is what it can feel like. Yes, and
[28:40] Speaker 2: it's just so effective. And I love that they're in
[28:42] Speaker 2: this like abandoned pool. It's so silly.
[28:45] Speaker 1: I love the abandoned Pool. I thought it was brilliant.
[28:50] Speaker 2: I was just thinking about like the random sets when
[28:53] Speaker 2: Adam Devine comes in and saying he's gonna go be
[28:56] Speaker 2: John Mayer's background singer, and all the boys are in
[28:58] Speaker 2: a hot tub together inside these was like, cramp, what
[29:02] Speaker 2: is this stupid as movie?
[29:05] Speaker 1: The Boss, the bus, Oh my god, the bus.
[29:08] Speaker 3: The rebel Wilson when she gets hit by the sausage.
[29:12] Speaker 2: I've been shot.
[29:13] Speaker 1: I've just shot. I've been shot. It is really gold,
[29:18] Speaker 1: it's gold.
[29:19] Speaker 2: She has all my favorite lines in this movie.
[29:23] Speaker 3: David, I've never seen it, and we were watching halfway
[29:25] Speaker 3: through and I was like, you have to watch this movie.
[29:27] Speaker 1: You would love this movie.
[29:30] Speaker 2: What are some of your favorite like performances should be great.
[29:34] Speaker 2: Some of these performances.
[29:35] Speaker 3: Actually, yeah, let's go through a few of them and
[29:38] Speaker 3: talk about it so obviously, Uh, since You've been Gone
[29:42] Speaker 3: was one of the yes, my best moments.
[29:46] Speaker 2: And it's honestly because of the Skylart. Yes this is
[29:52] Speaker 2: I wish it was eight hours longer.
[29:55] Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, so good. Obviously we said the riff.
[29:58] Speaker 3: Off plus plus plus plus plus plus. The sign Eternal
[30:06] Speaker 3: Flame trying to be around is just very funny, like
[30:08] Speaker 3: it's it's so it's very anti created and they look
[30:12] Speaker 3: like flight attendants and it's just it's great. I didn't
[30:17] Speaker 3: love party in the essay, but I like the the
[30:20] Speaker 3: purpose that it needed to.
[30:23] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[30:23] Speaker 2: I think like the number itself was like I would
[30:26] Speaker 2: give it an A.
[30:27] Speaker 1: Yeah your hater all that much.
[30:30] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[30:32] Speaker 3: The trouble Makers also just had great numbers right round,
[30:37] Speaker 3: very good obviously. The sign Bulletproof A plus, give me,
[30:42] Speaker 3: give me the full I love just.
[30:44] Speaker 2: The way you are just a dream so good. That
[30:47] Speaker 2: was great's a plus for me.
[30:50] Speaker 3: And then the fun you know, the final, the finale
[30:53] Speaker 3: or the finals with the Troubles do the finals and
[30:57] Speaker 3: she does, don't you forget about me? As like it
[31:00] Speaker 3: doesn't get better than that.
[31:01] Speaker 2: I love I love the trouble Makers using each other's
[31:04] Speaker 2: bodies as instruments.
[31:05] Speaker 3: Was hilariously stupid, very clever plus plus very clever. Okay,
[31:12] Speaker 3: let's do some tarty takes. Okay, cringe moments, I mean, look.
[31:19] Speaker 1: Very much a uh glee glee time.
[31:25] Speaker 2: Fat Amy, the racist jokes, the racist characterization of the
[31:30] Speaker 2: Asian girls, it.
[31:32] Speaker 3: Just doesn't it doesn't work, the slutshaming, the deaf juice.
[31:37] Speaker 3: Oh no, no, no, that was wild.
[31:39] Speaker 1: No no.
[31:40] Speaker 2: I was like, oh, they're.
[31:41] Speaker 3: Really okay, different time, different times, best dance move.
[31:49] Speaker 2: Honestly, I think when the treble makers were using each
[31:53] Speaker 2: other's bodies as instruments.
[31:54] Speaker 3: I also think Amy's Amy's solo in terms of incredible circles.
[32:01] Speaker 2: Incredible stuff also hurt Mermaid dancing.
[32:08] Speaker 3: Like when you look back on your career as Rebel Wilson,
[32:11] Speaker 3: you go like, what the people thinking?
[32:14] Speaker 1: They let me do this? But it's so funny, Like
[32:17] Speaker 1: it's so good.
[32:20] Speaker 3: It right, that's the hope you have. And you go like,
[32:22] Speaker 3: they let me do that, and and it were and
[32:25] Speaker 3: you made people laugh around the world. You know, it's
[32:27] Speaker 3: so funny. Okay, best song. If Titanium were in.
[32:33] Speaker 1: The full form, that would be my favorite.
[32:36] Speaker 3: But I think the finale they're their final song is
[32:41] Speaker 3: my favorite?
[32:41] Speaker 2: Yeah that or just the way you are just a
[32:43] Speaker 2: dream mashup.
[32:44] Speaker 1: Oh that's a good one too. Okay, that's a yeah.
[32:46] Speaker 3: Good point, good point, best performance, my prop so much. God,
[32:58] Speaker 3: Benji's magic pops.
[33:00] Speaker 2: O, God, poor Ben.
[33:03] Speaker 1: It's very I don't.
[33:05] Speaker 3: Know though, like there's just like college is a weird
[33:07] Speaker 3: hodgepodge of people and you'd be surprised. So I do
[33:11] Speaker 3: think there's like some fun reality in this like hodgepodge
[33:15] Speaker 3: of like all the different kinds of kids that were
[33:18] Speaker 3: went to school. But oh, definitely that or the pin.
[33:24] Speaker 2: The pitch pipe.
[33:30] Speaker 1: Oh god, best line.
[33:34] Speaker 2: As sometimes I have a feeling I can do crystal meth.
[33:36] Speaker 2: But then I think better.
[33:37] Speaker 1: Than I did not.
[33:41] Speaker 3: Oh God, even though some of you are pretty thin,
[33:45] Speaker 3: I think that you all have fat arts.
[33:51] Speaker 1: Amy Amy for the win.
[33:53] Speaker 2: So Freddy's Stroma who played the DJing this, I believe
[33:57] Speaker 2: a little bit of Glee lore. It was down to
[33:58] Speaker 2: Freddy strama in Cordo Sam.
[34:03] Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, he's you know, a lot of stuff.
[34:06] Speaker 3: He's so hot, he's so good, so good. He was
[34:11] Speaker 3: in the show Unreal. Did you ever watch that? Yes,
[34:13] Speaker 3: I watched unrel loved, unrel Okay performance MVP.
[34:18] Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I mean I think I think I
[34:21] Speaker 1: gotta go with Skyler.
[34:22] Speaker 3: I think Skyler too, and then I mean everybody was
[34:30] Speaker 3: so good and Rebel Wilson. I think it's everyone Everybody ensemble. Yeah, yeah,
[34:36] Speaker 3: definitely like it was.
[34:37] Speaker 2: A Smash, Speaking of which, I'm halfway through season one
[34:43] Speaker 2: of Smash.
[34:44] Speaker 1: Oh, Kevin.
[34:50] Speaker 2: One show Austin and I now watched together.
[34:53] Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that was so funny.
[34:57] Speaker 2: So there I am. I've been influenced by us.
[35:03] Speaker 1: Wow.
[35:04] Speaker 2: Okay, should we found on TikTok Jenna. Yeah, there is
[35:08] Speaker 2: a twenty three minute long tribute excuse me to Santana
[35:15] Speaker 2: and Brittany.
[35:16] Speaker 3: Oh literally, I'm scrubbing through this twenty.
[35:21] Speaker 2: Three somebody made a twenty three minute edit and honestly
[35:26] Speaker 2: not even long enough. It is so good. Wow Taysay, Yeah, yeah,
[35:39] Speaker 2: made a twenty three minute.
[35:40] Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, wow, absolutely insane.
[35:46] Speaker 2: I mean their whole account is dedicated.
[35:48] Speaker 1: To take the time, taking the time.
[35:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, but just I mean it has two point seven
[35:54] Speaker 2: million views, so you know, it's what the people want.
[35:58] Speaker 2: It's what the people to see.
[36:00] Speaker 1: No, I mean, that's definitely people need that and watch that.
[36:04] Speaker 2: You know, there's creative, dedicated people out there better than us.
[36:09] Speaker 2: And then there's reactions. There's reactions. There's people like where
[36:14] Speaker 2: my Gleek's at that just got their life change. For
[36:17] Speaker 2: the twenty three minute Brittany and Santana edit, this one said,
[36:21] Speaker 2: all my homies have been changed. You're reparably by the
[36:23] Speaker 2: twenty three minute Longly edit. Yeah, it's absolutely incredible. Thank
