[0:01] Speaker 1: And That's what You Really missed with Jenna.
[0:04] Speaker 2: And Kevin an iHeartRadio.
[0:06] Speaker 3: Podcast Welcome to You, and That's what You Really miss podcast,
[0:12] Speaker 3: The Sick Edition.
[0:14] Speaker 1: Hello Kevin.
[0:15] Speaker 3: Hello, we're both getting over some sort of illness cough
[0:19] Speaker 3: business from across the country.
[0:21] Speaker 4: Yes, everybody's got it right now.
[0:24] Speaker 3: You know, it's funny. I've had it like the whole break.
[0:26] Speaker 3: It's just when they lingering and then it finally started
[0:29] Speaker 3: coming out and like nobody else has gotten it. Knock
[0:32] Speaker 3: on wood in the house. But like it's so gnarly.
[0:38] Speaker 4: How are you feeling Okay?
[0:42] Speaker 2: I am, yeah, you know, we still power through. I've
[0:47] Speaker 2: been doing shows and I'm oh my gosh, it's just tough.
[0:51] Speaker 2: It's tough. Yeah, it's not great because you know, people
[0:53] Speaker 2: pay money to come see you in a show, and
[0:55] Speaker 2: I don't want them to see me sounding.
[0:58] Speaker 4: Like a car backfiring.
[1:00] Speaker 1: So that is what it's just now.
[1:03] Speaker 4: I'm trying my best.
[1:05] Speaker 2: And also, like when Jenna gets sick, it does not
[1:09] Speaker 2: It makes me feel really uneasy. It's like when your
[1:11] Speaker 2: parents gets sick or something, because you never get sick,
[1:13] Speaker 2: so you do. It's really disturbing.
[1:16] Speaker 1: It's so annoying. I it's the kids. They ring home,
[1:20] Speaker 1: all these Germans.
[1:20] Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, yep, But.
[1:23] Speaker 1: Being sick doesn't actually mean being sick, like there's no
[1:27] Speaker 1: rest time, there's no rest.
[1:29] Speaker 4: No, you don't get a break. How are your holidays?
[1:32] Speaker 4: What did you do? Tell me everything?
[1:34] Speaker 1: Honestly, we didn't do anything.
[1:36] Speaker 4: That's so nice.
[1:37] Speaker 3: We had some family visit, but like we we literally we.
[1:43] Speaker 1: We did nothing. We celebrated Christmas. We went to her
[1:46] Speaker 1: friend's house for Christmas Day. It was lovely.
[1:48] Speaker 3: We made pancakes, we opened presents like Emma gets it now,
[1:52] Speaker 3: so it was really fun. And she's still like afraid
[1:55] Speaker 3: of people coming in her house. So Sanna dropped them
[1:57] Speaker 3: off on the front porch and yeah, it was great.
[2:01] Speaker 4: It was really you.
[2:02] Speaker 3: Know, no, no, no no, I told her that he
[2:06] Speaker 3: put them on the front porch and then I brought
[2:08] Speaker 3: them inside. That is so cute, Like Santa won't come
[2:12] Speaker 3: in your house, don't worry. And then it was just
[2:16] Speaker 3: low key like we I mean, low key is low key.
[2:19] Speaker 3: It gets when you have two children and no childcare,
[2:21] Speaker 3: like you're just you're Winter break is not a break.
[2:25] Speaker 1: I mean we were off work, which was.
[2:27] Speaker 3: So nice, and we got to you know, hang out
[2:29] Speaker 3: with the family and like just go to the park
[2:32] Speaker 3: and do things all week and it was just fun,
[2:35] Speaker 3: but it was also like very intense, and we're very
[2:39] Speaker 3: happy to be back into a routine in a schedule
[2:41] Speaker 3: right now. So we're back full swing. How is your break,
[2:46] Speaker 3: did you? What was it like doing a show during
[2:51] Speaker 3: the holidays?
[2:53] Speaker 4: You know?
[2:54] Speaker 2: So I had my whole family was here and the
[2:58] Speaker 2: city like a week before Christmas.
[3:01] Speaker 1: So cute, which.
[3:02] Speaker 2: Also I realized at the time was sort of not
[3:06] Speaker 2: ideal timing.
[3:07] Speaker 4: Because that was when we had ten shows and seven
[3:10] Speaker 4: days straight.
[3:11] Speaker 1: Oh, and they're like, what are we doing?
[3:13] Speaker 2: No, Luckily they knew, Like I texted them, was like, look,
[3:16] Speaker 2: here's the situation.
[3:18] Speaker 4: I will see you when I can.
[3:19] Speaker 2: If I'm not talking a lot, that doesn't mean I'm
[3:20] Speaker 2: not happy to be around you all, but like I'm
[3:23] Speaker 2: just trying.
[3:23] Speaker 4: To get through it.
[3:28] Speaker 1: Shows.
[3:28] Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
[3:29] Speaker 2: And then by the tenth show, which was on the
[3:31] Speaker 2: twenty third, two shows that day, I was just tired.
[3:35] Speaker 2: And the whole time I just kept thinking like I
[3:38] Speaker 2: you know, and I've said it before and I'll continue
[3:40] Speaker 2: to say it, I'm just in awe of people who
[3:42] Speaker 2: have much harder shows to do who are doing that
[3:45] Speaker 2: schedule because every every show was doing a crazy holiday schedule.
[3:48] Speaker 2: So I get people who are doing Hamilton like I
[3:54] Speaker 2: just I don't. I don't understand it because.
[3:59] Speaker 4: It's a lot.
[3:59] Speaker 2: I don't know if people I wasn't someone who necessarily
[4:02] Speaker 2: understood it either, like when you go to the theater
[4:05] Speaker 2: to understand that. Like people who are in shows like
[4:07] Speaker 2: Hamilton are professional athletes, yes, and the amount of training,
[4:14] Speaker 2: skill care for their bodies. They have to have twenty
[4:17] Speaker 2: four hours a day yes, to be able to make
[4:20] Speaker 2: it through. And you have one day off a week,
[4:22] Speaker 2: like that's very cozy to do something or to not
[4:26] Speaker 2: do something too right. Yeah, And I didn't get sick,
[4:29] Speaker 2: and then I finally got six past week, and I'm like.
[4:32] Speaker 1: That's what happens. Wow, it's very impressive.
[4:35] Speaker 3: That's a lot of shows in that short amount of.
[4:40] Speaker 2: What was actually nice is on. So Christmas, even Christmas,
[4:44] Speaker 2: I had plans and my parents are going to drive
[4:45] Speaker 2: in from Connecticut and I was gonna go to my
[4:47] Speaker 2: sisters blah blah.
[4:48] Speaker 4: Blah blah blah.
[4:49] Speaker 2: My niece got the flu and we were debating Christmas
[4:53] Speaker 2: Eve if she was going to my niece. By the way,
[4:56] Speaker 2: ended up being a guest speller. Oh, I hope only came.
[5:00] Speaker 4: To the show. She was great, very exciting. Then she
[5:05] Speaker 4: got the flu.
[5:06] Speaker 2: So all of our Christmas plans got canceled, which is
[5:08] Speaker 2: actually raw.
[5:11] Speaker 1: It's like OVID COVID Christmas.
[5:13] Speaker 2: Yes, and so like Austin had to work, and so
[5:15] Speaker 2: I literally sat in the apartment I read the entirety
[5:21] Speaker 2: of Heated Rivalry on Christmas Day.
[5:24] Speaker 5: Kevin.
[5:25] Speaker 4: It was wow, it was really good.
[5:29] Speaker 1: That's actually exactly what you needed.
[5:32] Speaker 4: Yes, it was.
[5:32] Speaker 2: I literally sat in the window, like in the light
[5:36] Speaker 2: and just read lovely and I got to go see
[5:41] Speaker 2: Darren and maybe happy ending. Finally, he and I have
[5:44] Speaker 2: been trying to work out for months, trying to figure
[5:46] Speaker 2: out when.
[5:46] Speaker 4: We could see each other's shows.
[5:47] Speaker 1: You texted me, Yes, it's amazing. Huh.
[5:55] Speaker 2: Not to overhype it, because you know I already won
[5:58] Speaker 2: the Tony, But I think it's my favorite thing I've
[6:01] Speaker 2: ever seen.
[6:02] Speaker 4: Wow in theater.
[6:05] Speaker 1: I believe that. I totally believe that it's.
[6:07] Speaker 2: My exact favorite type of genre of book, TV show,
[6:12] Speaker 2: movie and now theater to.
[6:14] Speaker 3: Watch totally and everything. It's so good about it. The
[6:17] Speaker 3: music and the performance.
[6:18] Speaker 4: I've just never seen anything. I've never seen anything like that.
[6:21] Speaker 1: Yeah, and realize I've read.
[6:23] Speaker 2: It in books, yeah, you know, or even seen it
[6:25] Speaker 2: in movies. But to have that come to life, it
[6:29] Speaker 2: was I I almost cried at several points at just
[6:34] Speaker 2: the pure beauty. Yeah, yeah, because you hear how beautiful
[6:37] Speaker 2: the stage is. But it's also that doesn't overshadow how
[6:41] Speaker 2: beautiful the story is.
[6:43] Speaker 4: Either.
[6:43] Speaker 1: It's very pure, Yes it is.
[6:46] Speaker 2: I'm just so happy that like an original show like
[6:48] Speaker 2: that that is deserving to get as much credit and
[6:52] Speaker 2: hype has like found its way to survive in like
[6:55] Speaker 2: a really hard landscape.
[6:56] Speaker 3: Of yes, yes, people got it. It's so good and
[7:00] Speaker 3: Nan did such a good job.
[7:01] Speaker 2: I'm I got to talk to all of them afterwards.
[7:05] Speaker 2: They all spend so much time with you, which is
[7:07] Speaker 2: also really nice because they were just getting through a
[7:08] Speaker 2: holiday schedule. Yeah, and they're all just so impressive and wow.
[7:16] Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a really wonderful, wonderful, wonderful experience.
[7:19] Speaker 1: A big statement coming from you, like here, I have
[7:23] Speaker 1: to go, I'll go see it with you again.
[7:25] Speaker 5: Wow.
[7:26] Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, for sure, I gotta I gotta make it happen.
[7:31] Speaker 1: I'm going to make it. I went on Glick of
[7:43] Speaker 1: the Week.
[7:44] Speaker 3: Recently, and uh, we did a lack it. But he
[7:49] Speaker 3: was like jogging my brain for some things that we
[7:51] Speaker 3: were talking about, and I was like, it's as if
[7:54] Speaker 3: we never rekeapt the show at all.
[7:57] Speaker 4: You know, I don't you know? Yeah, because I said
[8:04] Speaker 4: to him.
[8:04] Speaker 3: I was like, I opened the window, I remembered it all,
[8:07] Speaker 3: and then I closed it back down again and closed
[8:10] Speaker 3: the shade.
[8:10] Speaker 4: As soon as it comes up, it goes away.
[8:12] Speaker 1: Yes, it's like trauma Survival Antics.
[8:17] Speaker 2: Justin Cooley who plays Leaf and spelling Bee Tony Nomine
[8:22] Speaker 2: Justin Cooley. Yes, yes, he says he only saw Glee once,
[8:28] Speaker 2: but he remembers everything.
[8:31] Speaker 1: Does he have like a really good memory?
[8:33] Speaker 4: I don't know.
[8:34] Speaker 1: I think it just interesting.
[8:36] Speaker 2: Okay, buy it because sometimes you know, stuff will come up,
[8:40] Speaker 2: like yesterday we were talking about Amber's version of Ain't noa.
[8:42] Speaker 2: How it's just sort of like besides Theretha, I think.
[8:45] Speaker 4: Like the best version of Ain't no a Yeah, And
[8:49] Speaker 4: he can just be like.
[8:50] Speaker 2: Oh, that's from season two episode whatever. Oh He's like,
[8:53] Speaker 2: oh is that the storyline where? But he can do
[8:55] Speaker 2: that anytime what and then he sort of looks like,
[8:58] Speaker 2: oh God, how.
[8:59] Speaker 1: Did I know that we need him on the show.
[9:01] Speaker 2: It's crazy to be here. I think we need to
[9:06] Speaker 2: have some of the spelling beat people. Leanna, who plays Marci,
[9:12] Speaker 2: is like a certified gleek. I want her house And
[9:16] Speaker 2: within five minutes her alarm went off to take some
[9:18] Speaker 2: medicine and it was Lea's don't ran in my parade,
[9:21] Speaker 2: and she looked horrified, and I was like, Limn, I
[9:26] Speaker 2: am best who plays logan. She wants to come on
[9:32] Speaker 2: and talk about disability representation, and so I'm like, I
[9:38] Speaker 2: think we would have great conversations with them.
[9:41] Speaker 4: They're all so talented and lovely, lovely people.
[9:43] Speaker 1: I love it.
[9:44] Speaker 4: And that's obviously so much crossover.
[9:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely.
[9:47] Speaker 4: So in the new year, I think we'll have some
[9:50] Speaker 4: of the spelling beat.
[9:52] Speaker 1: Very exciting.
[9:55] Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, oh Jenna, I've been dying to ask you.
[9:58] Speaker 2: Okay, this is not planned you guys, I know this
[10:01] Speaker 2: sounds like, but you posted about your new podcast, which
[10:06] Speaker 2: I obviously was coming.
[10:07] Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm perpetual podcaster. First of all, it looks so good,
[10:14] Speaker 3: thank you, and you're filming them. Yes, you posted a
[10:18] Speaker 3: picture and it looks great.
[10:20] Speaker 1: Okay.
[10:21] Speaker 3: So, Asian Meercan Girl Club is the company that's been
[10:23] Speaker 3: around for like seventy eight years now. Ali Machi, our friend.
[10:27] Speaker 3: She created it with like as a sign of friendship.
[10:29] Speaker 3: And I think I've told you guys this before. But
[10:31] Speaker 3: so we're now kind of branching into the media and
[10:34] Speaker 3: production side of things, and I've come on in a
[10:37] Speaker 3: bigger capacity, and so I in one of those roles
[10:39] Speaker 3: is hosting the new flagship podcast for Asian Mercer Girl
[10:42] Speaker 3: Club called Undefinable. We just announced it. We have started
[10:47] Speaker 3: recording and filming. We do film in a studio. We
[10:52] Speaker 3: went back and forth, do we do it virtual, do
[10:53] Speaker 3: we do it on you know? And we just decided
[10:55] Speaker 3: at the end of the day this is you know.
[10:57] Speaker 3: We wanted to do it in person and we wanted
[10:59] Speaker 3: to film it. And it's it's been really fun to
[11:01] Speaker 3: do in person and different because I'm just I'm so
[11:05] Speaker 3: used to us doing the podcast and not having to
[11:07] Speaker 3: worry about my face and not having to be recorded
[11:09] Speaker 3: the whole time. I just know it's audio, and so
[11:11] Speaker 3: this is so it's such a it's a little bit different,
[11:14] Speaker 3: like sitting there being on camera and I was like
[11:16] Speaker 3: Oh my god, this is so weird.
[11:18] Speaker 1: It's been so much fun.
[11:19] Speaker 3: I have a co host, Kara Way, and she's an
[11:21] Speaker 3: actress and an entrepreneur as well, and we've just been
[11:24] Speaker 3: interviewing like really cool people from the community and trailblazers
[11:28] Speaker 3: and really big, great people that are coming on and
[11:31] Speaker 3: they're sharing their stories and it's really exciting. So the
[11:33] Speaker 3: guests will be announced probably closer to the premiere date
[11:37] Speaker 3: January twenty. First, we have a hotline where people can
[11:41] Speaker 3: call in, write in, and we answer questions and.
[11:45] Speaker 1: It's it's just really fun. It's a really fun place
[11:48] Speaker 1: to have people connect, and.
[11:53] Speaker 3: You know, that's what you know AGC is all about,
[11:55] Speaker 3: is like the community and the connection for people, and
[11:58] Speaker 3: so this is just another out and fun way to
[12:01] Speaker 3: share stories, uplift stories, and.
[12:05] Speaker 1: Share our own. So it's been really fun and really exciting.
[12:08] Speaker 1: I think people are.
[12:09] Speaker 3: Going to really enjoy it. So if this is something
[12:11] Speaker 3: that interests you, you also don't have to be just
[12:13] Speaker 3: ation to listen to it. But this is for everybody.
[12:17] Speaker 3: It's a really fun. So once we come out, I'll
[12:20] Speaker 3: be able to tell you more about like the guests
[12:22] Speaker 3: and things. But it's been really exciting, and I know
[12:25] Speaker 3: I've been thinking about it too, and you know how
[12:27] Speaker 3: we've talked about doing watching and we did a little
[12:30] Speaker 3: bit of research and we did learn that a lot
[12:32] Speaker 3: of people do watch their podcasts now, Like I don't
[12:35] Speaker 3: think generally generationally for me, it was like podcasts were
[12:39] Speaker 3: in the new radio. But I do think that these younger,
[12:43] Speaker 3: cooler generations than us are watching them now and it's
[12:47] Speaker 3: their TV, their way of ingesting media.
[12:50] Speaker 1: So I'm you know, I was like, oh, maybe maybe
[12:54] Speaker 1: one day you and I, you know, we'll do this,
[12:58] Speaker 1: but that.
[12:59] Speaker 4: Can be a go this year.
[13:01] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[13:01] Speaker 3: Yeah, and Definable comes out every Wednesday, Go subscribe and listen,
[13:06] Speaker 3: and yeah, very exciting.
[13:08] Speaker 2: I just think that there's there's going to be so
[13:11] Speaker 2: many podcasts episodes per week of you as it should be.
[13:15] Speaker 1: Oh too many. I was like, I am the perpetual
[13:17] Speaker 1: podcasting queen.
[13:18] Speaker 2: You know what I don't think you get enough credit
[13:20] Speaker 2: for is I think you are really really great at
[13:25] Speaker 2: interviewing people.
[13:26] Speaker 1: Oh that's so good.
[13:27] Speaker 2: I think because you're a great listener, You're a great
[13:30] Speaker 2: friend in person in real life, and I think, you know,
[13:35] Speaker 2: doing this for so many years with you, I'm always
[13:38] Speaker 2: just impressed by you know, we have questions that we
[13:40] Speaker 2: have if we need things to fall back on, we
[13:42] Speaker 2: have sheets and prep that we do before we talk
[13:45] Speaker 2: to people. But I think you're at your best when,
[13:49] Speaker 2: like you just get in there and ask really insightful questions.
[13:54] Speaker 2: And I'm always just sort of an awe. So I'm
[13:56] Speaker 2: glad that there are more podcast episodes with you talking
[14:00] Speaker 2: to people, especially when it comes to this, Like I've
[14:03] Speaker 2: seen you work really really hard with the Asian American
[14:06] Speaker 2: Girl Club the.
[14:07] Speaker 4: Fastal of years and I'm just very very excited.
[14:11] Speaker 2: And I've met some people who work on it with you, yep,
[14:14] Speaker 2: and it's just like a really special organization and I
[14:17] Speaker 2: love that. You know, when these things get started, they're
[14:21] Speaker 2: really great in theory, but they take a lot of
[14:24] Speaker 2: work just staying yea and to build, and you all
[14:28] Speaker 2: are doing that, are actively doing that.
[14:30] Speaker 3: Thank you, Thank you, thank you. We have a lot
[14:33] Speaker 3: of really exciting things coming and I can't talk about
[14:37] Speaker 3: all of them yet, but very soon there's lots more coming.
[14:40] Speaker 1: So thank you. Thanks for saying that.
[14:43] Speaker 4: Well, I mean it. By the way, the Emmy nominations.
[14:49] Speaker 2: And sag Awars all that were announced recently but did
[14:51] Speaker 2: you see that there's like a new Emmy award that's going.
[14:55] Speaker 1: To be added podcast?
[14:57] Speaker 5: No?
[14:57] Speaker 3: No, what is it?
[14:58] Speaker 2: The Legacy Award, which honor shows that had a profound
[15:02] Speaker 2: and lasting cultural impact.
[15:03] Speaker 3: Okay, so go back though, because Golden Globe is doing
[15:07] Speaker 3: the best podcast podcast.
[15:09] Speaker 1: I was like, I'm just laughing. I think all those
[15:10] Speaker 1: podcastss are probably laughing. But also, okay, wait back to
[15:13] Speaker 1: this legacy a word?
[15:15] Speaker 5: What?
[15:16] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[15:16] Speaker 2: So the criteria is a minimum of sixty episodes, at
[15:22] Speaker 2: least five seasons, and continued relevance.
[15:24] Speaker 1: Okay, but is it now? Did they did they nominate
[15:27] Speaker 1: people yet?
[15:28] Speaker 5: No?
[15:28] Speaker 4: I think it's coming, like they added it. I don't
[15:30] Speaker 4: know if it's going to be in this I'm not
[15:32] Speaker 4: sure how this works. I don't know if it still
[15:34] Speaker 4: has to be on.
[15:37] Speaker 1: Like, I'm not sure what are the Yeah? What are
[15:38] Speaker 1: the Guys?
[15:40] Speaker 4: Has reached five seasons and it's still.
[15:42] Speaker 2: Currently on TV right right, or it's a show that
[15:45] Speaker 2: has been off because as hard as we try, Glee
[15:48] Speaker 2: won't go away.
[15:49] Speaker 1: And I feel like i'd go to them, you know,
[15:55] Speaker 1: like we did really all.
[15:56] Speaker 2: The Golden Globes. I feel like the Emmys, we didn't
[16:00] Speaker 2: get that much love from Emmy's. We got a lot
