The adverts are not chosen by us, but played automatically depending on the platform you listen through (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc) and the country you live in. The adverts may even be different if you listen to the story twice. We have had a handful of instances where an advert has played that is not suitable for a family audience, despite the podcast clearly being labelled for children. If you’re concerned about an advert you hear, please contact the platform you are listening to directly. Spotify, in particular, has proven problematic in the past, for both inappropriate adverts and the volume at which the adverts play. If you find this happening, please let Spotify know via their Facebook customer care page. As creators, we want your child’s experience to be a pleasurable one. Running adverts is necessary to allow us to operate, but please do consider the premium subscription service as an alternative – it’s advert free.

[0:15] Speaker 1: Hello, I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales Podcast.
[0:19] Speaker 1: There are over 100 extra stories on our premium service,
[0:23] Speaker 1: with a new one released every Friday, and this is
[0:27] Speaker 1: a taster of another one. To find out how to
[0:30] Speaker 1: become a premium member, please visit animaltales.uk. And remember, for
[0:36] Speaker 1: a tiny fee, all the stories are advert free. Blythe
[0:41] Speaker 1: is a premium member from Albuquerque, USA, and she would
[0:45] Speaker 1: like a story with a tiger, a black panther, a
[0:49] Speaker 1: jaguar and a mountain lion. Don't forget to listen to
[0:53] Speaker 1: the animal facts after the story to learn more about
[0:56] Speaker 1: these creatures. For now, it's time to sit back and
[0:59] Speaker 1: get comfy, because it's time to begin. The Cats on
[1:05] Speaker 1: Our Street There was only one cat on the street
[1:10] Speaker 1: where Blythe lived, hers. He was called Jeremiah Fluffytail, a
[1:16] Speaker 1: name Blythe had chosen and the rest of the family
[1:19] Speaker 1: had agreed to. He did, after all, have a fluffy tail.
[1:25] Speaker 1: With no other cats on the street, Jeremiah Fluffytail could
[1:29] Speaker 1: go wherever he liked. Cats can be fiercely territorial, fighting
[1:35] Speaker 1: and chasing away rivals or intruders. But Jeremiah Fluffytail didn't
[1:40] Speaker 1: have to worry about any of that, because Jeremiah Fluffytail
[1:45] Speaker 1: was the only cat. Lithe was minding her own business,
[1:50] Speaker 1: walking home from school, when she saw that their neighbours,
[1:54] Speaker 1: the Harrisons, had bought a new statue for their front lawn.
[1:59] Speaker 1: It was of a big cat, possibly a mountain lion,
[2:03] Speaker 1: and they'd placed the statue right in the lawn's centre.
[2:07] Speaker 1: No doubt this was to show it off and allow
[2:09] Speaker 1: everyone passing to see it. Blythe rather liked the statue
[2:15] Speaker 1: and was still admiring it when it turned to look
[2:18] Speaker 1: at her. It wasn't a statue at all. It was
[2:22] Speaker 1: a real mountain lion. Blythe found her knees go weak.
[2:27] Speaker 1: Should she run or remain still? What were you supposed
[2:31] Speaker 1: to do when you found yourself close to a ferocious
[2:34] Speaker 1: predator like this? The door to the Harrison's house opened
[2:39] Speaker 1: at that moment and out stepped Veronica Harrison, calling, Here,
[2:44] Speaker 1: sweet pea, it's your dinner time. Here, sweet pea. Blythe
[2:50] Speaker 1: was about to shout out a warning to Veronica about
[2:53] Speaker 1: the mountain lion when the big cat got up and
[2:56] Speaker 1: bounced playfully across the grass and into the house. Sweet Pea,
[3:02] Speaker 1: it turned out, was the mountain lion. The Harrisons had
[3:06] Speaker 1: got a new pet. This, of course, meant that there
[3:10] Speaker 1: were now two cats on the street where Blythe lived. Sensibly,
[3:17] Speaker 1: when Blythe explained what she had seen to her parents...
[3:20] Speaker 1: they all made the wise decision to keep Jeremiah Fluffytail
[3:24] Speaker 1: indoors from now on. None of them wanted him to
[3:28] Speaker 1: become a light snack for the Harrison's new pet. And so,
[3:33] Speaker 1: Jeremiah Fluffytail had to get used to just watching the
[3:36] Speaker 1: street through the window, rather than prowling it like he
[3:40] Speaker 1: once had. Several days passed as everyone got used to
[3:45] Speaker 1: a mountain lion living next door. Blythe took extra special
[3:50] Speaker 1: care when travelling to and from school, but in truth
[3:54] Speaker 1: the mountain lion never strayed from the Harrison's lawn. It
[3:59] Speaker 1: was a full week after the statue incident when Blythe
[4:03] Speaker 1: came home to discover a fire truck blocking the road.
[4:08] Speaker 1: Several firefighters were clustered around the house on the other
[4:11] Speaker 1: side to her own. They were all staring up into
[4:14] Speaker 1: the tree that sprouted from the garden. This was the
[4:19] Speaker 1: home of Mrs. Tuttletop, a retired teacher who lived alone.
[4:24] Speaker 1: She was currently standing to one side, looking anxious. What's happening?
[4:31] Speaker 1: asked Blythe when she arrived at Mrs. Tuttletop's side. It's Bitsy,
[4:37] Speaker 1: sniffled Mrs. Tuttletop, dabbing at the corner of her eyes
[4:41] Speaker 1: with a handkerchief. He's climbed the tree, but now he
[4:45] Speaker 1: can't get down. Blythe had no idea who Bitsy was.
[4:52] Speaker 1: She'd lived next door to Mrs. Tuttletop her entire life
[4:55] Speaker 1: and nobody had ever mentioned Bitsy before. Tilting her neck,
[5:01] Speaker 1: Blythe tried to see exactly what the firefighters were looking at. There,
[5:06] Speaker 1: on a high branch, crouched a huddled black panther. If

[5:29] Speaker 1: suggestion into a future tale. I look forward to seeing
[5:33] Speaker 1: you there.
