[0:23] Speaker 1: I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales podcast, home
[0:27] Speaker 1: to over four hundred and fifty stories written just for you.

[0:53] Speaker 1: get comfy, because it's time to begin. Island of the
[0:58] Speaker 1: do does thunder cracked as rain pelted against the barn roof. Within,
[1:06] Speaker 1: Olivia carefully plugged in the last few wires to her machine,
[1:11] Speaker 1: knowing that to night was the night. Are you sure
[1:15] Speaker 1: about this, Olivia? A concerned cow called Clover asked from
[1:20] Speaker 1: amongst the cluster of farm animals. Olivia's friends didn't appear
[1:24] Speaker 1: to want to get too close, I'm sure, said Olivia,
[1:30] Speaker 1: adjusting her tool belt. To night is the night I
[1:33] Speaker 1: get to be free like all the other birds out there.
[1:38] Speaker 1: As a chicken Olivia had lived on the farm her
[1:41] Speaker 1: whole life, caged in by fences. She'd always dreamt of
[1:46] Speaker 1: the wider world where she could run free. Luckily, Olivia
[1:52] Speaker 1: was a clever chicken. She'd sneak into the farmhouse and
[1:56] Speaker 1: use the farmer's computer to order books about electricity and
[2:00] Speaker 1: physics and mechanics. She'd scrounged together scrap metal from across
[2:06] Speaker 1: the farm, and over many weeks had built her machine.
[2:10] Speaker 1: It was a device that would take her far away
[2:13] Speaker 1: from the farm, a teleporter. It was a round, flat
[2:18] Speaker 1: disk for her to stand on, and she controlled it
[2:21] Speaker 1: via a keypad that hung around her neck. She'd already
[2:25] Speaker 1: programmed in her desired destination, an island far away from
[2:30] Speaker 1: humans and foxes. Now she just needed electricity, and lots
[2:36] Speaker 1: of it. Outside, lightning lit up the sky. Last chance
[2:43] Speaker 1: to come with me, Olivia said to the other animals. No,
[2:48] Speaker 1: thank you, said Clover, speaking for everyone watching. Olivia nodded
[2:55] Speaker 1: and stepped onto the teleporter. A long cable ran from
[2:59] Speaker 1: its base to a long metal rod sticking skywards upon
[3:02] Speaker 1: the roof. The chicken checked her keypad one last time.
[3:08] Speaker 1: Good Bye, every one, Olivia said, Wish me luck lightning cracked,
[3:15] Speaker 1: and the barn was filled with bright, dazzling sparks, forcing
[3:19] Speaker 1: the animals to close their eyes. When they opened them again,
[3:24] Speaker 1: the teleporter and the chicken were gone. The chicken staggered forward,
[3:31] Speaker 1: feeling dizzy but ecstatic. She was, without doubt, not in
[3:36] Speaker 1: the barn any more. She was amongst tall grass, with
[3:40] Speaker 1: a line of thick undergrowth to her left, and a
[3:43] Speaker 1: long sandy beach and the ocean to her right. Yes,
[3:49] Speaker 1: said Olivia with triumph. Now all she needed to do
[3:53] Speaker 1: was explore her new home. She hid the teleporter beneath
[3:57] Speaker 1: the undergrowth marked the spot and went to look for
[4:01] Speaker 1: a spot to build herself a house. Unfortunately, she'd not
[4:06] Speaker 1: walked far when she realized that she was not alone.
[4:11] Speaker 1: The area was full of strange looking birds. They were
[4:14] Speaker 1: bigger than her, almost triple her sighs, with gray feathers,
[4:20] Speaker 1: small wings, and large beaks. They didn't look like any
[4:24] Speaker 1: bird Olivia had seen before. Who are you, then, stranger,
[4:30] Speaker 1: asked a voice, surprising her. One of the large gray
[4:35] Speaker 1: birds had walked up behind the chicken without her noticing.
[4:40] Speaker 1: Haven't seen you around here before, er, said Olivia, thinking quickly,
[4:47] Speaker 1: But there didn't appear to be any danger here, So
[4:50] Speaker 1: Olivia decided to be honest. I'm new, she said. I'm
[4:55] Speaker 1: a Livia, I'm a chicken. A chicken. The gray bird marveled,
[5:02] Speaker 1: never heard of a chicken before. I'm Eliot. I'm a Dodo.
