The adverts are not chosen by us, but played automatically depending on the platform you listen through (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc) and the country you live in. The adverts may even be different if you listen to the story twice. We have had a handful of instances where an advert has played that is not suitable for a family audience, despite the podcast clearly being labelled for children. If you’re concerned about an advert you hear, please contact the platform you are listening to directly. Spotify, in particular, has proven problematic in the past, for both inappropriate adverts and the volume at which the adverts play. If you find this happening, please let Spotify know via their Facebook customer care page. As creators, we want your child’s experience to be a pleasurable one. Running adverts is necessary to allow us to operate, but please do consider the premium subscription service as an alternative – it’s advert free.

[0:00] Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to a special taster of our new
[0:03] Speaker 1: premium only story. We hope you like it. Hey yo, Hello,
[0:23] Speaker 1: I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales podcast. There
[0:27] Speaker 1: are over one hundred extra stories on our premium service,
[0:31] Speaker 1: with a new one released every Friday, and this is
[0:34] Speaker 1: another one. Leo is a premium member from Florida in
[0:38] Speaker 1: the USA, and he would like a story with a microraptor,
[0:42] Speaker 1: a titana boa, and well a lot of snakes and lizards.
[0:48] Speaker 1: Don't forget to listen to the animal facts after the
[0:51] Speaker 1: story to learn more about some of these creatures. If
[0:55] Speaker 1: you'd like to suggest an animal for a story, then
[0:58] Speaker 1: please do let us know at podcasts at Animaltales dot UK.
[1:02] Speaker 1: As premium listeners, we guarantee to write one for you.
[1:07] Speaker 1: For now, it's time to sit back and get comfy,
[1:09] Speaker 1: because it's time to begin Reptile Island. Millions of years
[1:17] Speaker 1: after the end of the dinosaurs, planet Earth was a
[1:20] Speaker 1: very different place. New creatures had risen to take the
[1:24] Speaker 1: place of the likes of t Rex and triceratops, leaving
[1:28] Speaker 1: those mighty creatures all but forgotten. But there was one
[1:33] Speaker 1: place where dinosaurs still held on on a tiny island
[1:38] Speaker 1: surrounded by a shallow sea. This was the secret home
[1:42] Speaker 1: to many families of microraptors, a small feathered dinosaur that
[1:47] Speaker 1: not only had wings where you'd expect wings to be,
[1:51] Speaker 1: but a second pair upon its legs. Despite these double wings,
[1:57] Speaker 1: microraptor wasn't that great at flying. They could manage short
[2:01] Speaker 1: distances and get about happily from tree to tree, but
[2:05] Speaker 1: longer distances were unlikely. But that didn't stop Leo from dreaming.
[2:12] Speaker 1: Leo was a young microraptor who spent far too much
[2:15] Speaker 1: time on the edge of the island, gazing westwards, for there,
[2:20] Speaker 1: some distance away, another island could be seen. I think
[2:26] Speaker 1: I could make it, Leo would say, to any one
[2:29] Speaker 1: that would listen, don't be so daft. The other microraptors
[2:34] Speaker 1: would say, that's far too far for your puny wings.
[2:39] Speaker 1: You'll never make it. You'll plunge into the ocean and
[2:42] Speaker 1: be eaten up by the first big fish that swims past.
[2:46] Speaker 1: But Leo wasn't so sure. He knew he was a
[2:50] Speaker 1: good flier, and he was certain that he could keep
[2:53] Speaker 1: going for long enough. After all, he was young, fit
[2:58] Speaker 1: and strong. I'm going to do it. To day, he
[3:02] Speaker 1: announced to a nearby microraptor, I'm going to fly all
[3:06] Speaker 1: the way to the neighboring island. And before the other
[3:10] Speaker 1: microraptor could comment, Leo launched himself into the air and
[3:15] Speaker 1: began to fly. He had the wind behind him and
[3:20] Speaker 1: determination on his side, allowing the breeze to help lift
[3:24] Speaker 1: his outstretched wings, and then just like that, he was
[3:29] Speaker 1: across the ocean gap and landing on a drooping branch.
[3:34] Speaker 1: He'd made it to a totally new island. As he
[3:39] Speaker 1: caught his breath, a frilled lizard appeared on the ground
[3:42] Speaker 1: below him, looking up in astonishment by my scaly tail.
[3:48] Speaker 1: What sort of bizarre creature are you, hello, said Leo,
[3:53] Speaker 1: happy to have met a resident of the new island.
[3:57] Speaker 1: I'm Leo. I've just flown all the way. You can't
[4:02] Speaker 1: do that, complained the frilled lizard. That's what all my
[4:07] Speaker 1: friends said, laughed Leo. But I did no. No, objected
[4:14] Speaker 1: the frilled lizard. I mean you're not allowed here, not
[4:18] Speaker 1: without permission from the king. What's a king, asked Leo innocently.
[4:26] Speaker 1: The king rules this island and he controls everyone and everything,
[4:31] Speaker 1: stated the frilled lizard. Firmly. Well, that doesn't seem very fair,
[4:37] Speaker 1: said Leo. We don't have a king on the island
[4:40] Speaker 1: where I come from. But you're not on that island anymore,
[4:46] Speaker 1: huffed the frilled lizard. You're on this one, so you'd
[4:50] Speaker 1: best come with me. Leo reluctantly agreed, gliding to the
[4:55] Speaker 1: ground to follow the lizard through the undergrowth. They will
[5:00] Speaker 1: towards the island's center, where an enormous tree grew with
[5:04] Speaker 1: spreading branches that twisted and tangled like knots. If you'd
[5:08] Speaker 1: like to hear more, please join our premium service. You
[5:12] Speaker 1: can find out how in the description. The premium service means.
[5:17] Speaker 1: You can listen to all animal tales stories advert free,
[5:20] Speaker 1: get bonus stories, and we guarantee to turn your animal
[5:24] Speaker 1: suggestion into a future tale. I look forward to seeing
[5:28] Speaker 1: you there
