The adverts are not chosen by us, but played automatically depending on the platform you listen through (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc) and the country you live in. The adverts may even be different if you listen to the story twice. We have had a handful of instances where an advert has played that is not suitable for a family audience, despite the podcast clearly being labelled for children. If you’re concerned about an advert you hear, please contact the platform you are listening to directly. Spotify, in particular, has proven problematic in the past, for both inappropriate adverts and the volume at which the adverts play. If you find this happening, please let Spotify know via their Facebook customer care page. As creators, we want your child’s experience to be a pleasurable one. Running adverts is necessary to allow us to operate, but please do consider the premium subscription service as an alternative – it’s advert free.

[0:00] Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to a special taster of our new
[0:03] Speaker 1: premium only story. We hope you like it. He yo, Hello,
[0:23] Speaker 1: I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales podcast. There
[0:27] Speaker 1: are over one hundred extra stories on our premium service,
[0:30] Speaker 1: with a new one released every Friday, and this is
[0:33] Speaker 1: another one. J J is a premium member from the USA,
[0:39] Speaker 1: and she would like a story with a cat and
[0:41] Speaker 1: a mouse. Don't forget to listen to the animal facts
[0:44] Speaker 1: after the story to learn more about these creatures. For now,
[0:49] Speaker 1: it's time to sit back and get comfy, because it's
[0:51] Speaker 1: time to begin Cat and Mouse Cottage. The cottage was
[0:59] Speaker 1: finally filled with boxes and furniture, leaving the moving van empty.
[1:04] Speaker 1: JJ placed the cat carrier on the hardwood floor and
[1:08] Speaker 1: swung open its door. Here you go, Judy, said JJ,
[1:13] Speaker 1: our new home. Two yellow eyes peered out at the
[1:17] Speaker 1: strange new house. Judy was not keen, so shuffled further
[1:23] Speaker 1: back into her carrier. Come on, you, silly kitty, you
[1:28] Speaker 1: can't stay in there forever, said JJ, gently tipping out
[1:32] Speaker 1: the stubborn black cat. Judy slid to the floor ear
[1:37] Speaker 1: as flat as she surveyed the room. Nobody had asked
[1:41] Speaker 1: her if she wanted to move house. She was perfectly
[1:44] Speaker 1: happy with the old one. Sure it was small and
[1:48] Speaker 1: next to a loud and busy road, but it had
[1:51] Speaker 1: been the only home she had ever known. Go and explore,
[1:56] Speaker 1: JJ encouraged, giving the cat a gentle purseh Reluctantly, Judy
[2:03] Speaker 1: stepped forward. The cottage was pretty, she supposed, but she
[2:08] Speaker 1: was already missing the cats that lived near the old
[2:10] Speaker 1: house and the pigeons that would land on the window
[2:13] Speaker 1: sill and tell her the latest gossip through the glass.
[2:17] Speaker 1: She didn't know any one here except Ja Jay and
[2:20] Speaker 1: her family. With a sigh, the cat decided she may
[2:25] Speaker 1: as well explore. She peered into the kitchen, peeked into
[2:30] Speaker 1: the living room, and went up and down the stairs.
[2:34] Speaker 1: Arriving back at the point where she'd started, Judy noticed
[2:37] Speaker 1: a door open, just a crack. Being ever curious, Judy
[2:43] Speaker 1: nudged it open to see what was within. It was
[2:47] Speaker 1: a flight of stairs leading down into a basement. Light
[2:52] Speaker 1: was streaming in through a narrow, high window, so Judy
[2:55] Speaker 1: sprang down the stairs to see what she could find. Disappointingly,
[3:01] Speaker 1: the basement was all but empty, just an old table
[3:05] Speaker 1: and three water damaged boxes hardly worth the bother. She
[3:10] Speaker 1: was about to return up the steps when she caught
[3:13] Speaker 1: a flicker of movement by the boxes. On soft, silent paws,
[3:18] Speaker 1: she crept over, only to find herself looking down into
[3:23] Speaker 1: a long, whiskered face. It was a mouse, small, gray
[3:28] Speaker 1: and surprised. Where did you come from? The mouse squeaked. Oh,
[3:36] Speaker 1: said Judy, startled by the mouse's response. I'm Judy. My
[3:41] Speaker 1: family and I just moved here. It's our new home.
[3:45] Speaker 1: The cottage has new owners, the mouse said, perking up.
[3:50] Speaker 1: How wonderful it has been empty for so long. I'd
[3:54] Speaker 1: grown quite lonely. I'm Sparkle. By the way. For the
[3:58] Speaker 1: first time since she had been placed in the cat
[4:01] Speaker 1: carrier that morning, Judy felt a smile tug at her lips.
[4:06] Speaker 1: She liked this mouse. It's nice to meet you, Sparkle,
[4:10] Speaker 1: Judy said, Hey, why don't I show you around? Sparkle suggested,
[4:16] Speaker 1: running for the stairs, last one up as fleas, Judy
[4:22] Speaker 1: gave chase, giggling. Suddenly things didn't seem quite so bad.
[4:29] Speaker 1: As the days passed, Judy and Sparkle spent almost all
[4:33] Speaker 1: their time together. When JJ went to school and her
[4:37] Speaker 1: family were out at work. They had the house to themselves.
[4:41] Speaker 1: They would play games, watch TV, and share snacks, all
[4:46] Speaker 1: while swapping stories as they got to know one another.
[4:50] Speaker 1: Tell me another story about the city, Sparkle would ask, fascinated,
[4:57] Speaker 1: And while Judy was very pleased to have made a
[4:59] Speaker 1: friend and Sparkle was the most grateful of the two,
[5:04] Speaker 1: the little mouse had grown terribly lonely in the cottage,
[5:07] Speaker 1: to the point where she rarely even left the basement.
[5:10] Speaker 1: If you'd like to hear more, please join our premium service.
[5:14] Speaker 1: You can find out how in the description. The premium
[5:18] Speaker 1: service means. You can listen to all animal tales stories
[5:21] Speaker 1: advert free, get bonus stories, and we guarantee to turn
[5:26] Speaker 1: your animal suggestion into a future tale. I look forward
[5:30] Speaker 1: to seeing you there
