The adverts are not chosen by us, but played automatically depending on the platform you listen through (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc) and the country you live in. The adverts may even be different if you listen to the story twice. We have had a handful of instances where an advert has played that is not suitable for a family audience, despite the podcast clearly being labelled for children. If you’re concerned about an advert you hear, please contact the platform you are listening to directly. Spotify, in particular, has proven problematic in the past, for both inappropriate adverts and the volume at which the adverts play. If you find this happening, please let Spotify know via their Facebook customer care page. As creators, we want your child’s experience to be a pleasurable one. Running adverts is necessary to allow us to operate, but please do consider the premium subscription service as an alternative – it’s advert free.

[0:00] Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to a special taster of our new
[0:03] Speaker 1: premium only story. We hope you like it. Hello Yo, Hello,
[0:23] Speaker 1: I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales podcast, home
[0:26] Speaker 1: to over four hundred and fifty stories written just for you.
[0:31] Speaker 1: Our Friday story is especially for our Premium subscribers only.
[0:36] Speaker 1: Elliot is a Premium member from Atlanta in Georgia, U
[0:39] Speaker 1: s A. And he would like a story with a
[0:42] Speaker 1: mule deer and a coyote. Don't forget to listen to
[0:45] Speaker 1: the animal facts after the story to learn more about
[0:48] Speaker 1: these creatures. For now, it's time to sit back and
[0:52] Speaker 1: get comfy, because it's time to begin The Big Bad Coyote.
[1:00] Speaker 1: Once upon a time, a coyote sat down with a book.
[1:04] Speaker 1: By reading the book, he hoped to take his mind
[1:07] Speaker 1: off of his very hungry tummy, which had been growling
[1:10] Speaker 1: and grumbling and gurgling. The coyote had had nothing to
[1:15] Speaker 1: eat for such a long time. The book he had
[1:19] Speaker 1: chosen was The Big Book of Fairy Tales, and the
[1:22] Speaker 1: very first story happened to be The Three Little Pigs.
[1:26] Speaker 1: He remembered this story being read to him when he
[1:29] Speaker 1: was little. His favorite character in that story was the
[1:33] Speaker 1: big bad wolf, and he'd loved the way he'd blown
[1:36] Speaker 1: down the pigs, houses of straw and sticks. It was
[1:40] Speaker 1: only the ending where the wolf was tricked at the
[1:43] Speaker 1: housemaid of bricks that spoilt it. That part was awfully unfair.
[1:50] Speaker 1: As his stomach gurgled again, the coyote had an idea.
[1:54] Speaker 1: Maybe he thought this story could help him catch some
[1:58] Speaker 1: dinner of his own. Through the woods, and not too
[2:03] Speaker 1: far away there lived a mule deer named Eliot. Eliot
[2:08] Speaker 1: lived a quiet life in a little wooden cabin all
[2:11] Speaker 1: on his own. It was a peaceful place to live
[2:14] Speaker 1: where he was rarely disturbed. And yet to day some
[2:18] Speaker 1: one was knocking upon his door. This was most unexpected,
[2:23] Speaker 1: and so the mule deer cautiously tiptoed to the window
[2:26] Speaker 1: to see who it might be. There was a coyote
[2:30] Speaker 1: stood on his doorstep. Eliot didn't like the sight of
[2:34] Speaker 1: him there one bit. Who is it? Eliot called out,
[2:40] Speaker 1: I'm the big bad I mean, the little kind coyote.
[2:45] Speaker 1: The coyote replied, Can I come in? No, thank you,
[2:51] Speaker 1: Eliot replied, I don't want any visitors right now. I'm
[2:55] Speaker 1: rather busy. The coyote wasn't aware he was being watched
[3:00] Speaker 1: as he pulled a book from his pocket and began
[3:03] Speaker 1: to leaf through it. He read a passage, snapped shut
[3:08] Speaker 1: the book, then looked up at the cabin. Little pig,
[3:13] Speaker 1: Little pig, the coyote began, before trailing off. Wait are
[3:19] Speaker 1: you a pig in there? No, I'm a mule deer,
[3:23] Speaker 1: Elliot replied from within, continuing to make sure he was
[3:27] Speaker 1: out of sight. The coyote nodded and put his book away.
[3:33] Speaker 1: Then he puffed out his skinny chest and said, little dear,
[3:37] Speaker 1: little dear, let me in, Let me in er No.
[3:43] Speaker 1: Eliot replied he hadn't changed his mind. In fact, if anything,
[3:48] Speaker 1: he was now quite sure he'd made the right decision
[3:51] Speaker 1: in keeping his door closed. No, no, that's wrong, complained
[3:57] Speaker 1: the coyote outside. You're supposed to say not by the
[4:02] Speaker 1: hair on my chinny chin chin. Elliot was beginning to
[4:07] Speaker 1: find this strange coyote amusing, so he decided to play
[4:11] Speaker 1: along very well. He said, not by the hair on
[4:16] Speaker 1: my chinny chin chin. A coyote braced himself with his
[4:21] Speaker 1: legs wide apart as he took a deep, deep breath.
[4:26] Speaker 1: Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your
[4:29] Speaker 1: house down, he cried, and he blew with all of
[4:33] Speaker 1: his might, blowing until he was red in the face.
[4:38] Speaker 1: Eliot's house, though, didn't even wobble. Are you all right,
[4:44] Speaker 1: Elliot called through the window. You appear to be sweating.
[4:49] Speaker 1: Just give me a moment, panted the coyote, before taking
[4:54] Speaker 1: another deep breath and trying again. The cabin still didn't move.
[5:01] Speaker 1: I don't understand, the coyote complained as he pulled out
[5:05] Speaker 1: his book. Houses made of sticks are easy to blow down,
[5:10] Speaker 1: it says so right here. If you'd like to hear more,
[5:13] Speaker 1: please join our premium service. You can find out how
[5:17] Speaker 1: in the description. The premium service means you can listen
