The adverts are not chosen by us, but played automatically depending on the platform you listen through (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc) and the country you live in. The adverts may even be different if you listen to the story twice. We have had a handful of instances where an advert has played that is not suitable for a family audience, despite the podcast clearly being labelled for children. If you’re concerned about an advert you hear, please contact the platform you are listening to directly. Spotify, in particular, has proven problematic in the past, for both inappropriate adverts and the volume at which the adverts play. If you find this happening, please let Spotify know via their Facebook customer care page. As creators, we want your child’s experience to be a pleasurable one. Running adverts is necessary to allow us to operate, but please do consider the premium subscription service as an alternative – it’s advert free.

[0:00] Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to a special taster of our new
[0:03] Speaker 1: premium only story. We hope you like it. Hey yo, Hello,
[0:23] Speaker 1: I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales podcast, home
[0:27] Speaker 1: to over four hundred and fifty stories written just for you.
[0:31] Speaker 1: Our Friday story is especially for our Premium subscribers only.
[0:36] Speaker 1: Celia is a Premium member from the USA, and she
[0:39] Speaker 1: would like a story with a shitsu, an axe lottle,
[0:43] Speaker 1: and a bearded dragon. Don't forget to listen to the
[0:46] Speaker 1: animal facts after the story to learn more about these creatures.
[0:51] Speaker 1: For now, it's time to sit back and get comforty,
[0:53] Speaker 1: because it's time to begin axe Lottle pool party. The
[1:00] Speaker 1: sun blazed hot overhead, making the air shimmer and the
[1:04] Speaker 1: flowers wilt. Animals searched for cover, the ground sizzling beneath
[1:09] Speaker 1: their feet, squeezing into any patch of shade they could find.
[1:14] Speaker 1: It was the hottest day of the year, and it
[1:17] Speaker 1: felt like the earth was melting. Celia, though, had a plan.
[1:23] Speaker 1: She was on her way to her favorite spot, which
[1:26] Speaker 1: just so happened to be perfect for a day like
[1:28] Speaker 1: to day. Hopping through the grass, the little axe loottle
[1:33] Speaker 1: ducked through a hole in a fence and into a garden.
[1:37] Speaker 1: She was only small, so everything towered over her as
[1:41] Speaker 1: she danced across the hot patio slabs towards her goal,
[1:46] Speaker 1: a dog bowl. It was large, round and full of water,
[1:51] Speaker 1: and it belonged to a sheet sou named Fred. Fortunately
[1:55] Speaker 1: for Celia, Fred didn't mind Celia taking a dip in
[1:59] Speaker 1: his bar, and to day she just couldn't wait to
[2:03] Speaker 1: hop in and float around in the nice cool water.
[2:08] Speaker 1: Celia clambered up the bowl sidhe and jumped, but there
[2:13] Speaker 1: was no splash and no cooling droplets. The dog bowl
[2:17] Speaker 1: was dry. Hey, where's all the water gone? Complained Celia.
[2:24] Speaker 1: Alerted by the sound of the axe Loottle's voice, Fred
[2:28] Speaker 1: appeared through the home's dog door. Hi Celia, he said,
[2:33] Speaker 1: happily please to see her. You do know that bowl
[2:36] Speaker 1: is empty, don't you? I do now. The axe loottle replied,
[2:42] Speaker 1: what's happened? Oh yeah, sorry about that. The sheet sou said, panting,
[2:49] Speaker 1: It's been so hot and I drank it all. My
[2:52] Speaker 1: humans haven't noticed to fill it up again. But that's okay.
[2:56] Speaker 1: I have another one inside where it's cooler, another one,
[3:01] Speaker 1: repeated Celia, perking up, could I swim in that one instead. Oh,
[3:07] Speaker 1: I don't know, said Fred doubtfully. You know, I don't
[3:11] Speaker 1: mind you using my bowl. You're always so respectful, and
[3:16] Speaker 1: my humans never see but inside the house. What if
[3:20] Speaker 1: they saw you? Ah, I understand, said Celia. I guess
[3:26] Speaker 1: I'll have to find another way to cool off. Thanks, Celia,
[3:30] Speaker 1: said Fred, perking up again. I hope you find something
[3:34] Speaker 1: real soon. Celia bid good bye to the Sutsu as
[3:39] Speaker 1: he ducked back into the cooler house. There has to
[3:43] Speaker 1: be somewhere else I can cool off, she said, After
[3:47] Speaker 1: all the day was only going to get hotter. Squeezing
[3:52] Speaker 1: through holes in fences and ducking under bushes, the little
[3:56] Speaker 1: axe loottle searched across the neighboring gardens. Ah, she said,
[4:02] Speaker 1: as something caught her eye. It was a bird bath.
[4:06] Speaker 1: It was a round basin stood on a tall pillar
[4:09] Speaker 1: of stone. Celia knew there was water inside because she
[4:13] Speaker 1: could see two birds splashing in it. Hullo, Celia called
[4:19] Speaker 1: out as she approached. Excuse me, one of the birds,
[4:24] Speaker 1: A robin looked down at her. You want to get
[4:28] Speaker 1: out of the sunshine, the robin said, don't you know
[4:32] Speaker 1: it's boiling hot? To day, I know, said Celia, wiping
[4:37] Speaker 1: her sticky brow. Could I join you up there? I
[4:41] Speaker 1: can't use my usual spot to day of course. The
[4:46] Speaker 1: second bird, a house sparrow, replied the more the merrier.
[4:52] Speaker 1: Getting up though, was a problem, but with the bird's help,
[4:56] Speaker 1: Celia was soon dropping into the bird bath. Lovely, she sighed,
[5:03] Speaker 1: this is just what I needed. If you'd like to
