The adverts are not chosen by us, but played automatically depending on the platform you listen through (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc) and the country you live in. The adverts may even be different if you listen to the story twice. We have had a handful of instances where an advert has played that is not suitable for a family audience, despite the podcast clearly being labelled for children. If you’re concerned about an advert you hear, please contact the platform you are listening to directly. Spotify, in particular, has proven problematic in the past, for both inappropriate adverts and the volume at which the adverts play. If you find this happening, please let Spotify know via their Facebook customer care page. As creators, we want your child’s experience to be a pleasurable one. Running adverts is necessary to allow us to operate, but please do consider the premium subscription service as an alternative – it’s advert free.

[0:00] Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to a special taster of our new
[0:03] Speaker 1: premium only story. We hope you like it. Hey yo, Hello,
[0:23] Speaker 1: I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales podcast. There
[0:27] Speaker 1: are over one hundred extra stories on our premium service,
[0:31] Speaker 1: with a new one released every Friday, and this is
[0:34] Speaker 1: another one. Jane is a premium member from Santa Monica,
[0:39] Speaker 1: USA and she would like a story with an ostrich,
[0:43] Speaker 1: a Komodo dragon, and a blue whale. Don't forget to
[0:47] Speaker 1: listen to the animal facts after the story to learn
[0:50] Speaker 1: more about these creatures. If you'd like to suggest an
[0:54] Speaker 1: animal for a story, then please do let us know
[0:57] Speaker 1: at podcast at Animaltales dot UK. As premium listeners, we
[1:02] Speaker 1: guarantee to write one for you. For now, it's time
[1:06] Speaker 1: to sit back and get comfy, because it's time to
[1:09] Speaker 1: begin the Ostrich Glitch. Jane had laid an egg. She
[1:18] Speaker 1: was very proud of it, not least because of its
[1:20] Speaker 1: impressive size. As an ostrich, a large egg was to
[1:25] Speaker 1: be expected, but even so, actually seeing it with her
[1:29] Speaker 1: own eyes made her giddy with happiness. Now all she
[1:34] Speaker 1: had to do was help it to hatch. That was
[1:38] Speaker 1: the difficult part. Jane lived like all ostriches on the
[1:43] Speaker 1: grasslands of Africa, where sinister predators hunted and sneaky egg
[1:48] Speaker 1: thieves proud. This is no place to hatch my egg,
[1:53] Speaker 1: decided Jane as she listened to the roars, growls and
[1:57] Speaker 1: grunts around her. I need somewhere far away from all this.
[2:03] Speaker 1: And so the Ostrich wrapped up her egg to keep
[2:07] Speaker 1: it warm and set off in search of somewhere new.
[2:12] Speaker 1: The problem she discovered was that no matter how far
[2:15] Speaker 1: she traveled, there was always some sort of vicious carnivore
[2:20] Speaker 1: already living there. Jane had no choice but to keep
[2:24] Speaker 1: walking onwards in the hope that just over the next hill,
[2:28] Speaker 1: or just across the next stretch of water, she would
[2:31] Speaker 1: find the perfect spot to hatch her egg, which was
[2:36] Speaker 1: how the Ostrich arrived on the shore of an island.
[2:40] Speaker 1: Now this looks more like it, said Jane, talking to
[2:44] Speaker 1: her egg. It's pretty, it's peaceful, and it's the perfect
[2:49] Speaker 1: place for you to come out of your shell. She
[2:53] Speaker 1: strode off, looking for a spot to call their home.
[2:58] Speaker 1: But if the Ostrich thought that the island was safe,
[3:01] Speaker 1: than she was in for a nasty surprise, for this
[3:05] Speaker 1: island was home to a very large and formidable creature.
[3:09] Speaker 1: The Comodo dragon, and one of these giant lizards had
[3:14] Speaker 1: seen Jane arrive. Oh boy, oh boy, said the Comodo dragon,
[3:21] Speaker 1: as it licked its lips with its long forked tongue.
[3:25] Speaker 1: What a tasty looking pear. I don't know which one
[3:29] Speaker 1: to eat first, the big chicken or its gigantic egg.
[3:34] Speaker 1: My belly will be stuffed after those two. The big chicken,
[3:39] Speaker 1: he had noticed, had very long legs, so he knew
[3:43] Speaker 1: he could never catch it if it decided to run away. No,
[3:48] Speaker 1: it would be much better to let it get settled
[3:51] Speaker 1: somewhere and then pounce. He flicked his tongue in and
[3:55] Speaker 1: out a few times, tasting the air, before slowly following
[4:00] Speaker 1: the trail. Jane, meanwhile, had found what she felt was
[4:06] Speaker 1: a lovely spot amongst the trees on the hill side.
[4:10] Speaker 1: She had a beautiful view of the beach and could
[4:13] Speaker 1: enjoy the gentle sounds of the ocean waves breaking on
[4:16] Speaker 1: the shore. It's paradise, grinned Jane, still talking to her egg,
[4:24] Speaker 1: she had scraped a shallow pit in the earth, set
[4:28] Speaker 1: her egg down, and was now sat upon it. Here
[4:32] Speaker 1: there were no Loathsome lions hassling hyaenas horrid honey badgers
[4:39] Speaker 1: or any of the troublesome predators she'd grown up around.
[4:43] Speaker 1: But how wrong she was. The Commodo Dragon had tracked
[4:48] Speaker 1: her down and was now watching her from amongst the bushes.
[4:53] Speaker 1: The only thing stopping him from racing forward and claiming
[4:56] Speaker 1: his prize was that he was still unsure what to
[4:59] Speaker 1: have first, the big chicken or the egg. If you'd
[5:04] Speaker 1: like to hear more, please join our premium service. You
[5:08] Speaker 1: can find out how in the description. The premium service means.
[5:12] Speaker 1: You can listen to all animal tales stories advert free,
[5:16] Speaker 1: get bonus stories, and we guarantee to turn your animal
[5:20] Speaker 1: suggestion into a future tale. I look forward to seeing
[5:24] Speaker 1: you there.
